2023.06.01 23:16 BlackSheepVegan Had a baddddd day, cried ALOT

God damn the fucking moon, every time I get my period it’s a full moon. Every time. I know I’m gonna get my period tomorrow or Saturday maybe, and today was terrible.
I’ve cried, I’ve lashed out, I’ve had a full meltdown in my car. I’m nearly 40, I’ve truly had it with this fucking condition.
It was so well managed for so long and now the perimenopause has royally fucked it and I’m back to being the walking experiment.
I’m sorry to moan, I’ve just really had enough of feeling like I’m not even in my own body.

2023.06.01 23:12 little_kreitzman Processing home birth on baby's birthday

When I gave birth a year ago I never posted here about it. So here's my baby Avinoam as a newborn, and one year later.
I think it took me quite a while to feel less emotional and more positive about my birth experience, and in some ways I'm still processing it... And since this community has been important to me I wanted to share about it here today.
My midwife did a stretch and sweep (which I asked for) on a Wednesday 6 days before my due date. I slept terrible that night and by Thursday morning I was feeling regular cramps but still didn't know at that point if they were "real" contractions. I remember my mum had come over to show me how to do some embroidery but all I could focus on was untangling and sorting out threads from this giant tangled mess of embroidery thread, I couldn't actually do anything. After dinner I got into bed early to relax and we called my sister in law, and while we were on the phone I felt a pop and my water broke, at 8 PM. Thankfully it was clear, as I had been worried about meconium in the fluid which would mean we would have to go to hospital and not stay at home as planned.
The doula Michelle arrived, and my labour began in earnest. Between 8 pm Thursday and 11 PM the next day I cycled through all the different positions. Mostly on my knees, but on my side and upright as well. In and out of the shower. With and without the tens machine. With always Michelle and my husband by my side. Because it was so long Michelle left to rest a bit and a substitute doula, Martha, came for a few hours, who was also amazing. The midwife, who arrived early Friday morning, was pretty hands off most of the time, doing calls and computer stuff in the other room but coming in to check my and baby's vitals every half hour or so. I went through three midwives as their shifts ended and handed off to the next. I kept labouring.
There was nothing wrong, it was just slow going. I remember at about 11 or midnight the first night I got nauseous and threw up. I had read that people sometimes vomit during transition and I thought that's what was happening, like great we're getting closer! But actually I was barely 2 cm dilated. I just had no clue how much more intense it was going to get or how long it would take.
The baby was sunny side up and thus not ideally positioned. Even though my water had broken, the second midwife could feel a pocket of the amniotic sack that still had fluid in it cushioning between the head and the cervix and suggested that popping it would allow for more contact of the head on the cervix and might get things going. After she did it things got more intense. For a while I did a side lying position with tons of pillows that was incredibly painful and powerful, but I could fully relax and rest in between contractions. I even remember having tiny dreams in between contractions. The second midwife also used a rebozo (a long piece of cloth) on my belly while I was on all fours in a sort of "sifting" motion, which was supposed to help the baby turn.
The third midwife suggested doing contractions crunching back into a sort of child's pose. They were very intense and painful, again, she said these would help the baby turn. Ever time I did the crunch it would trigger a contraction. I remember just making myself do it. Finally I was getting the urge to push but there was still a stubborn "puffy" spot on my cervix. Those hours of feeling the urge to push but being told not to add to the pushing were brutal. This whole time I was just taking two tylenols every four hours (such a joke) and drinking water with honey. I ate maybe half a banana in 30 hours. I kept thinking "why don't I just go to the hospital and get an epidural?!?". But I never said it out loud and somehow was just able to continue one contraction at a time. My doula and midwives and husband kept telling me how strong I was and encouraging me. At some points in the labour, I think when things got more intense, I felt like I wanted/needed to touch my vulva area, to just sort of feel/keep tabs on what was going on. I can't explain it, it just felt necessary. During contractions the midwife would say "this is the way" and when they were over she would say "now blow it away". Like a sort of mantra. It helped. Michelle kept telling me that I would never have to do that contraction again.
Finally in the late evening on Friday there were some really powerful contractions that I had actually while sitting on the toilet (at that point my legs were so tired they were giving out from being on my knees for so many hours, and sitting on the toilet was actually a relief). We went back to the bedroom, did a few more contractions (they were LOUD -definitely a different sound came out of me) and the midwife checked me again and I was finally fully dilated. I remember her saying I could push as hard as I wanted now. It was a huge relief to hear that.
There was a sort of rush of activity with the midwife calling her second team member to come. I felt like it was finally happening after so much effort. This was around 10 PM on Friday. I had told my husband I couldn't do another night at home. And I didn't. The pushing only took about an hour.
The midwife was totally engaged and stayed by my side at that point on. After doing some contractions with pushing, she tried get me to "direct" the pushes to a place she indicated, to sorry if focus on that spot. She said she could see that it was working. She said that now I should try without making noise (ie holding my breath). She coached me to push, change the breath and push again in each contraction. It was intense but I felt so much better than the endless hours before when nobody knew how long it would take and it felt like nothing was changing. I was actually doing something! The pushing was intense rectal pressure, but didn't take long. I was on the bed, then crouching with a stool, then back on the toilet. There was also a point that the time been contractions lengthened and I wondered why it was slowing down. The midwife just told me to take the moment to rest, and it was normal. I could feel his head with my hand as he was getting close. I felt the ring of fire briefly, but honestly that doesn't feel important, I don't remember it as unbearable. I knew he was coming. I caught my son in my own hands, his head and body both came out in one big push as I was kneeling on our bathroom floor with my husband supporting me behind my back. He was head down, so had turned finally at some point.
He cried out right away and the midwife put a flannel cloth over him as I held him. I just burst into tears and cried for quite a while while I held him, sitting right on that floor. I will never ever forget that moment.
My postpartum experience was so good. It was incredible to just be home, taking a shower in my own bathroom, tucked into my own bed (with clean sheets that the doula changed), and eating the most amazing tasting food I had ever experienced (a big plate of cheese cubes, fruit, nuts and chocolate). I was shaking and jittery from the adrenaline for a while, but definitely felt like a fucking superhero. I had no tears, just a few "papercuts". The baby was healthy and nearly 8 pounds. I really fell in love with the midwives for the care they gave me right after the birth. I asked to see the placenta and she showed it to me. They stayed for more than a couple hours, just being with us, cleaning up, checking the baby, showing me how to latch, getting him dressed and ready to sleep. The mood was light.
But I had walked through hell to get there. I feel like I went through some real suffering. The mind blowing thing about an unmedicated birth is that I was in so much pain and it was just so brutal, but I was actually totally healthy and ok. I was safe. There was never anything the matter with me medically. It just took the time that it took, and it was really hard. That is such a strange and unusual thing to experience. There was (is) this sudden and startling connection to all the ancestors and other women through history that have gone through this.
Anyway, this has turned into a novel and I apologize. I guess I don't know that many people who have had an unmedicated/home birth that I've been able to talk to about it. My sister in law gave birth to all three of her kids at home but her longest labour was 8 hours and she told me she let her husband sleep through the early part and was joking with the midwives while in labour. I was not letting my husband sleep or joking with anyone. The most I did was issue brief orders like "chitchat outside!" (when the midwives were changing shifts and talking about various things in the room), and "don't tell me what sounds to make!" (When my husband suggested making lower noises, which we had read is helpful). It was pretty agonizing. In retrospect though, I think I coped ok. I'm not sure if I would have said that in the days after, because the pain was still so fresh... But there was no screaming or despair or just trying to leave the situation. It was pretty agonizing but I did persevere. I don't really connect to the narrative of what I did being bettemore natural/you go girl. But at the same time I am really proud of myself for birthing my son the way I wanted to on my terms. And at the same time how brutal it was still makes me shiver. And at the same time I feel like I had such a good postpartum experience and a really easy recovery at least in part because of how long (and intervention-free) my labour and delivery was. So I'm grateful.
I welcome any thoughts on processing mixed feelings around birth. And want to open up the space for anyone who's thinking about their birthing experience as well during this month of birthdays!

2023.06.01 22:59 merpdog1313 Readmission Woes

I took a semester off for mental health reasons, got readmitted to go back in the fall. I feel like ever since I got readmitted the university has royally fucked me over in every way possible. I got denied on campus housing even though I’ve lived there for the past two years. Apartment rentals near Storrs are horrifically expensive (don’t know how that’s going to get paid) and I wanted to live on campus because I think it would be better for my mental health. My new advisor is not responding to my emails (of which I have sent 3 over the past 2 months) I had to go through the registrar’s office to enroll in classes (I’m still not enrolled in everything I need yet) and they’ve stopped responding to my emails. At this point it’s like they’re trying to get me to go somewhere else, but I have 2 semesters left before graduation so why would I do that?
Sorry for the long rant…I am very frustrated atm.

2023.06.01 22:35 Initial-Friendship62 MIL treats my husband and I like little kids.

So my husband (M25) and I (F26) live in a different city than his parents. We spend weekends with my in laws from time to time and this can get pretty frustrating. My FIL is just a kind and peaceful man who tries not to intervene with our lives too much but MIL is the complete opposite. I don't like the way she treats my husband and his father at all! Everytime we are there she bosses them around ordering my husband to clean and tidy not only the guest room but the rest of the house as well. She even makes him clean up her mess. My husband and I also have friends that live near his parents so we want to visit them sometimes which is always a struggle. She always seems upset if we go to hang out with them even if it's just for a couple of hours and gets very agitated if we decide to have a few drinks with them. She acts as if we are a bunch of alcoholics while my husband and I only drink on some weekends and work really hard during the week. For example, I chugged a glass of water the other day and she made a comment about how I must have imagined it was a beer. It's little comments like that mostly aimed at me for some reason that drive me insane. She also used to comment about my body and eating habits a lot and still does from time to time (I am recovering from an eating disorder and she knows this) Furthermore she got kind of mad at my husband and I for booking our vacation without consulting her first because "maybe she wanted her son to come with her." Other than that she tries to controll my husband's finances and acts as if I throw away all his money. If we spend a lot of money on something (like the vacation I mentioned) she just assumes that it was all my idea and that I made my husband spend his hard earned money. One other weird thing that just came to mind, she is obsessed with our sex live as well as that of her other son and his girlfriend. Everytime we go upstairs she has to make a comment about us probably going there to have sex. Last time I was there she knocked on my BIL's ( who still lives with them) bedroom door while he was in there with his GF and when he told her to come in she said something along the lines of "I was just checking if you were having sex." They were f*ing studying! Another time she just burst in while my husband and I were sleeping and one time while we were showering!! I am so glad that my husband sees the same things I see and always stands up for me if she says anything inappropriate. I just wish he would stick up for himself a bit more. After our last visit I decided to let some time pass before I go there again because I just don't want to deal with her. My husband was very understanding because she really went too far with her demands and nasty comments that time. I am glad he agrees but I also don't want to come between him and his mother.

2023.06.01 22:25 coolwali I platinummed EVERY Batman Arkham game on PS VITA

Hello everyone. I recently platinummed every Batman Arkham Game on the PSVITA and would like to talk about the experience.
Lets start with the first Arkham game released on VITA, 2013's Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate. A sort of sister game to Arkham Origins. Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate (which I'm just going to call BAOB for short) was initially released for the 3DS and VITA and has been ported to other PS4, XB1 and PC. Unlike other Arkham games, BAOB is a 2.5 side scrolling Metroidvania-type game. It has a sorta similar freeflow combat system and predator sections comparable to the console games. The premise of the game is that a few months after the events of Arkham Origins, a riot breaks out at Blackgate penitentiary. With Joker, Black Mask and Penguin taking control of different sections of the prison. Batman has to work with Catwoman (her first canonical appearance in the ArkhamVerse) and explore different sections of the prison to contain the situation.
The game really takes advantage of its metroidvania premise. Batman enters Blackgate with just the baterang and a basic Cryptographic Sequencer that can only hack the most basic looks. You must then explore the rest of the prison, going in between areas to collect the rest of Batman's gadgets (it's a little weird why Batman's gear is in various WayneTech crates scattered randomly all over the place but eh, you kinda need that for a Metroidvania) to overcome obstacles.
Batman's final goal is to reach the Arkham Wing of the prison. To this, he needs to take down the 3 main bosses, Joker, Black Mask and Penguin to gain access as Joker has the administration codes and has taken control of the Admin building. Black Mask has shut off the power to the Arkham Wing (and his tampering of the generators risks blowing up the place) and has taken control of the Industrial Section of Blackgate. Penguin has taken control of the Cell Blocks and is directly guarding the door to the Arkham Wing.
The main "gimmick" here is that you can tackle these bosses in any order you want. And the game changes depending on which order you choose. Like, the entire final sequence of the game is entirely different depending on which boss you did last. Doing Joker last has him rig these 5 gas filled presents you must disarm. And these presents are placed all over Blackgate. Doing Penguin last changes the ending sequence to needing to rescue 5 hostages guarded by elite minigun enemies that need to be taken out by the Batclaw. These hostages are in completely different areas to Joker's presents. Doing Black Mask last has the ending sequence consist of needing to get to 5 different junction boxes, "activating them", then racing to find the 3 panels they connect to nearby in a short amount of time to hit them with the explosive gel (I personally found this to be the most fun of the 3 ending sequences). These junction boxes are in different areas to the presents and hostages. The final cutscene is also different.
In addition, there are also more minor changes depending on your order. For example, saving Penguin for last has a mini-segment where when you are chasing him, he is able to lock Batman in a room and disperse some poison gas since he had more time to prepare traps for Batman as Batman was busy taking the other bosses down first.
The gameplay is also different but not in the way you expect. Like, the actual fights don't change depending on which order you do things in. Penguin will fight you the same way regardless of if he's the first or final boss you pick. But how you can fight him is different depending on which gadgets you picked up and when you choose to fight them.
Like, during my first playthrough of the game, I went after Penguin first and I found his boss fight extremely difficult. He packs these minigun wielding henchmen that can melt you if they see you. You cannot brute force or attack them like you can with other armed enemies. And there are no hiding spots so losing these alerted enemies is difficult. The only way to eliminate these enemies is to use the Batclaw on them but that takes a few seconds and alerts every enemy to you. If you get shot at while doing this, it deals heavy damage and frees the enemy. He also sends these drones out after you which cannot be dealt with. Suffice it to say, I died a lot. I barely squeaked through this fight.
On my second playthrough, I did Penguin second. As a result of doing Joker first and a good chunk of Black Mask's section, I had more armour and gadgets like the Shock Baterang and Explosive Gel Launcher which made Penguin's fight more manageable. You can use the Shock Baterang and Explosive Gel to destroy the drones and draw enemies to them. The added armour also helped me take a few more shots.
The most extreme example of this is with the Solomon Grundy Boss Fight you get as you are exploring Black Mask's sections. Normally, in this boss fight, Grundy charges Batman. You have to use the explosive gel launcher (that you get from Black Mask's section) to blow up these vents as Grundy charges through them which blinds him, and then blow up these junction boxes as the stunned Grundy goes underneath them. This shocks Grundy and damages him. He then destroys that Junction Box. You need to repeat this 2 more times with different junction boxes. But, if you have the Shock Batering (which you get from doing a good chunk of Joker's section first), you can just shock the water in front of Grundy as soon as the fight starts and beat him up to instantly KO him. So instead of a 3 phase fight where you need to time 2 different explosive gel uses and dodge a charging Grundy 3 times, it's a 1 phase fight where you just throw a Shock Batering and be done with an entire boss fight early. The game even gives you a trophy for it "Bad Case of the Mondays - Defeat Grundy using the Shock Batarang and water" (also, sidenote but Batman seems to be familiar with Grundy here. I thought this was supposed to be the first time Batman and Grundy met?).
Speaking of which, lets talk about what it takes to platinum this game. If you've read my prior platinum reviews, you'll notice I usually start by describing what the trophies are, how I got them and then a review of the game itself. I chose to instead do a summary of the game, then the trophies, then a review because this game is really confusing to platinum. Being a VITA game released in 2013 means there isn't as much info or resources on some aspects of the game or its trophies.
The game has 31 trophies. 16 of which are missable and requires at least 2.9 playthroughs to get all the trophies.
Part of this is due to Metroidvania nature of the game. Depending on which order you play the game, you can miss sections that house collectibles (for example, if you do Black Mask last, destroying the Junction Boxes takes you to an area of the Cell Blocks you have to no reason to really go to. Which houses 2 of Penguin's collectibles. Some armour and gadget upgrades can no longer be collected if you don't collect them before completing a playthrough), or not have the means to complete a challenge or once you complete it normally, it is no longer present to reuse. Such as the aforementioned Grundy trophy. Another example is the trophy "Unnecessary Roughness - Get a 50 hit combo" and " LEAGUE OF SHADOWS - Get a 100 hit combo". That trophy can only be gotten in one specific place in Joker's section as there is nowhere else in the game with enough armoured enemies for you to beat up on to get close to 100. And once you complete this fight, the enemies don't respawn. There are no challenge rooms or any equivalent.
I even tried doing this on other combat encounters and the most I was able to get was 83 even after playing perfectly and farming for high hits. In that one Joker section, I managed to get 123 and that was after multiple attempts. Though, I've read from others on other sites that this is RNG and results aren't consistent.
The collectibles were confusing to get. Both in collecting them and what to do for the trophies. BAOB has quite a few different collectibles. The first are Detective Cases. These shed light on the lore and background of the story and are really cool in that regard. I loved reading them and trying figure out the mystery before it was solved. However, they can be extremely annoying to find. Each Case requires you find between 2-6 corresponding clues scattered all over the game. These clues can be anything from a large broken door to a tiny USB flash drive to generic rubble. Unlike other Arkham games, Detective Vision doesn't automatically highlight items of interest for you. Instead you must stop and manually scan an area by dragging your finger across the touch screen to move a cursor. If the cursor lands on an item of interest, it will be green. Then it scans the item which takes about a second. It then becomes yellow in Detective Vision. If it's a Clue, the game will inform you you've found a Clue and which Detective Case it belongs to.
I love the idea of these Detective Cases and Clues, but the way the game handles them is pretty annoying. Like I said, the game doesn't highlight them beforehand and they can be literally anything. Often they are innocuous things that don't really stand out. Especially given how cluttered environments can be. It can be really hard to tell if a particular area even has a clue never mind what it even is. Especially as there often isn't much consistency in what clues can or can't be. Like, in a room filled with say, paper, computer monitors, rubble on the ground, lights etc any of these can be clues. In fact, all of the items I have listed are clues in other rooms. On top of that, some clues cannot be scanned unless Batman is in the correct position even though the perspective doesn't reflect that and you can see the collectible. For example, one of the clues, a USB Flash Drive, requires Batman to be next to it as there is a table blocking his view to the USB Flash Drive even though the player can see the USB and hover over it. And some Clues don't require this. One Clue was scanning this white cloth which was in the cross section of a wall while Batman was in a vent and couldn't even "see" from his perspective. But you could scan it from seemingly anywhere.
There is some signposting when the player might have found an area that houses a Clue. If the player finds a secret area like a vent that leads to a random cluttered room with nothing to interact with, that usually houses a Clue. But I feel that still highlights an issue, if aren't using a guide, you wouldn't know where or even if a Clue is in an area. And if it is, if you can even scan it or need to do something first. The end result is that it really slows the pace looking for Clues. The game doesn't have the equivalent of Riddler Maps that give you an accurate idea of what you're looking for and where (I can't believe this game made me miss Riddler trophies lol).
Detective Cases are also required for multiple trophies and carry over between NG+ runs. Meaning if you find a Clue in one playthrough, you do not need to re-scan it in a NG+ run. So if you can get all the Detective Cases early, you're set for the rest of the playthroughs. There are 2 trophies related to Detective Cases, "World's Greatest Detective - Complete all detective cases" which you can do on first playthrough (I recommend it as you're then set), and "The Collector - Find all detective cases and have all pickups and upgrades" which requires you have all the Detective Cases but cannot be achieved until the very end of your final playthrough.
The second set of collectibles are "Gear, Armour, Gadget and Gauntlet Upgrades". These include stuff like armour pieces (4 of which gives you more health which can be really helpful), Rush upgrades (Rush is a mechanic where if you have full health when you attack enemies, you do extra damage. I personally never saw much use in it) and Gauntlet Upgrades (increases the base damage of your attacks. But I personally never felt like they were that powerful). Gadgets also get upgrades. Such as the Batering being upgraded to the Shock Baterings or the Explosive Gel Launcher getting upgraded to the Explosive Glue Gel Launcher. You will find most of the gadget upgrades as part of the main story as they unlock more tools to explore the map. Wheras only one gadget upgrade (the proximity upgrade for the Gel Launcher) and all the Armour, Gear and Gauntlet ones are entirely optional and missable.
I like the idea of these upgrades. They are typical in Metroidvanias. But they aren't very useful in BAOB. Aside from armour which can help you in your first playthrough (but can be potentially redundant if you get a specific suit), Rush and Gauntlet don't make much of an impact. They don't even make bosses easier since you deal with them in preset ways anyway. The gadget upgrades are mostly mandatory anyway. But unlike Detective Cases, they appear as these black boxes/crates and if you scan one with Detective Vision, the rest will be highlighted in Detective Vision as well. So at least you "know" what they are when you see them.
These collectibles do not carry in between NG+ runs. So if you find all the upgrades in one playthrough, they will be present for another and you can collect them again to get the same upgrades as before. There are individual trophies for getting all the armour, gadget and gauntlet upgrades which you can get in any playthrough. However, you will need to re-collect them all for your final playthrough in order to get the Collector Trophy.
I really dislike this aspect. Aside from the fact you have to re-collect them to get the Collector trophy, even just for a casual NG+ run, one of the coolest aspect of a NG+ in a playthrough of any game is that you're powered up from the upgrades you got in prior run. In the other Arkham games, when you do a NG+ run, you have all the upgrades and most of the collectibles from your last playthrough (these games do compensate by taking away counter indicators). Which means in the case of BAOB, it's not really that much of a NG+ in terms of gameplay (ignoring the suits that is). I can understand not giving the player all the gadgets and their upgrades since that blocks progression. But I feel in the case of BAOB, you can already get most of the gadgets and their upgrades before you take on any of the big 3 bosses. Aside from the Cryptographic Sequencer upgrades, I genuinely feel you can give the player all the other gadgets and upgrades from the start of the game and it wouldn't break the game.
The third set of Collectibles are what I call "Boss Collectibles". These consist of 20 Joker Teeth (found in the Administration Building), 20 Penguin Birdcages (found in the Cell Blocks) and 20 Black Masks (found in the Industrial Building). You break them by throwing a Baterang at them. Though some Joker teeth and Penguin Birdcages will explode if you get close them since they are designed to be traps. That still counts as breaking them.
These Collectibles do not carry over in between NG+ Runs. So if you destroy 15 Joker Teeth in a playthrough, in NG+ it will act like you haven't destroyed any Joker Teeth. So all 20 are back in the world. There are individual trophies for getting each set of these collectibles but no trophy for getting them in conjunction with other trophies. The Collector Trophy doesn't require you get these collectibles as well (which none of the VITA guides I looked at mentioned. I had to go to Xbox Achievement forums to find that out). Meaning if you get all of these collectibles in a playthrough and get their corresponding trophies, then in NG+ run, they will still show up but you don't have to collect them again.
I'm not complaining that I don't have to re-collect these. But I ask why they respawn if they aren't counted for additional trophies? Surely it would be better if they stayed gone for NG+? My only guess would be that they indicate to a player they haven't fully explored an area yet?
Also, the trophy for the 20 Joker Teeth and 20 Penguin Birdcages are Silver. But why is the trophy for the 20 Black Masks Bronze? This is an insult to Black Mask! The Arkham Games really do Black Mask dirty. In Origins, he gets ousted as the main villain by Joker and in BAOB, he doesn't even get the same tier of trophy as the other 2 main bosses' collectibles.
The fourth set of collectibles are Suit Pieces. There are 5 suits you can get in BAOB. Only 3 of which are needed for any trophies. You have the standard Arkham Origins suit you start with (the game's description says it provides "minimal ballistic protection and offensive capabilities". Which is odd given how bulky and armoured it is. Like, it looks more powerful and armoured than all the other suits in the game lol). It offers no additional bonuses. You have the Beware the Batman suit from the CGI Animated show Beware The Batman (I remember watching a few episodes when I first came out. I remember liking it). It isn't "Batman wearing a suit inspired by that suit", it's that 3D model of Batman in the game. His proportions look whack. Like his chest is comically large since its not "realistic" like the other models in BOAB. If you've been the Animated Batman Suit in Arkham City, it's like that. I do like this skin. It's really cool and it offers a bonus in that reduces damage from firearms by 50% (I guess that animated chest is more powerful than Arkham Origin Batman's armour). You can only unlock this suit if you have played Arkham Origins on PS3. Fortunately, even if you haven't, it's not required for any trophies. The suits that are required for trophies are the Red Son Batsuit (which increases health regeneration by 50%), the New 52 Suit (increases damage by 25%), One Million Suit (decreases all damage taken by 25%) and the Darkest Night/Zombie suit (makes Batman invulnerable to all damage).
Apparently, on the remaster for PS4, XB1 and PC, there are more suits like the The Dark Knight Returns suit which makes you invulnerable and increases damage by 25%. But I won't be talking about that.
To unlock a suit for the trophies, you need to find the 5 pieces of the suit scattered over the game. The suits and all their pieces you've found carry over into NG+. So if you've found all the pieces for the Darkest Night suit and 4/5 pieces for the Red Son Suit, on your NG+, you will have access to the Darkest Knight suit and have 4/5 pieces for the Red Son Suit.
There is one catch with the suits, you cannot collect all the pieces in one playthrough. Remember earlier when I said the game has different ending sequences depending on which boss you fight last? This sequence also gives you a different final piece for one of the batsuits. Like, if you fight Joker last and do the present sequence, the final present contains the final piece of the Red Son Batsuit. If you do Penguin last, the final hostage contains the final piece of the New 52 Suit. And same for Black Mask and the 1 million suit. Meaning that in order to get all the suits, you need to NG+ this game twice so you can get the final pieces (and also the trophy for completing each of the sequences).
By the way, it is possible to accidentally miss picking up the final piece here. Requiring you to NG+ the whole game again and fight the same boss again last to get the piece again. So make sure you don't miss it.
But, any benefits these suits would give you is rendered moot by the Zombie suit. This is the only suit whose 5 pieces don't depend on how you play the game so you can get it no matter the playthrough. And it breaks the game. You are invulnerable to any damage. Including stuff like Joker gas so combat is a joke. The only place where you can still die is in Black Mask's boss fight as, if he shoots you, you die automatically for some reason. But that's not really a problem since you don't really fight him directly anyway. Every other combat encounter is trivial now. The only "downside" is that you are invulnerable but not invincible. Meaning enemies can still hit you which can stagger and stun Batman. This can interrupt any combos or moves he was doing. But that can be dealt with easily since you don't lose any health anymore.
Putting all this together, if you want to platinum this game (or more likely, the PS4/XB1/PC version since you aren't going to be playing this on the VITA lol), here's my "optimal" plan.
Playthrough 1: Try doing as much as you can of the Administration/Joker section first. This also gets you the Shock Baterang and Line Launcher gadgets. And the chance to try for the 100 hit combo trophy. Hopefully it's more doable if you go for it early and don't have any damage upgrades. Spam that stun beatdown move.
Once you rescue the Warden, go the Industrial Area and play through enough of Black Mask's section until you get the Explosive Gel Launcher.
At this point you are set to go after Joker or Penguin as you have all the tools you need to get to them (as you can get the remaining tools to get to them like the Batclaw and Tightrope upgrades are found along the way to the boss). The Shock Batering will make quick work of Grundy and make Penguin's boss fight easier.
I would recommend playing more of Black Mask's section until you get the green upgrade for the Cryptographer Sequencer as that can save you a second run all the way back to get the Glue upgrade but you can do this later if you want. It is a little confusing anyway if you haven't played the game before. The game eventually marks on the map where you have to go if you play "naturally".
Lets say you want to do Joker last for this playthrough and Penguin first. Head to the Cell Blocks and complete it as much as you can until Penguin hides in the Arkham Wing and Catwoman tells you that you can use the Lighthouse to get to Penguin. Before you leave the Cell Blocks to get to the Lighthouse, if you have the Green codes, you can get the Glue Gel upgrade and save yourself a trip. It is quite out of the way so if you're unsure where to go, you can ignore this and go straight to the Lighthouse and through it to get to Penguin.
Once Penguin is down, you can return to the Industrial Building and continue pursuing Black Mask. If you haven't gotten the Glue Upgrade yet in the Cell Blocks, the game marks for you where it is on your map. After you get it, you can go after Black Mask and take him down. Then backtrack to where Joker's section starts in Industrial. Follow it until you beat Joker.
You can then enter the Arkham Wing. Enter it, make sure you nab the Zombie Suit Piece located here. Then do Joker's Present Ending Sequence, making sure to grab the final Red Son Suit piece. Then, before you go to the Lighthouse for the final confrontation with Catwoman, try scouring the 3 main areas and get the collectibles of interest. For a first playthrough, I advise getting all the Detective Cases, Joker Teeth, Penguin Birdcages, Black Masks and all remaining suit pieces. That way, you don't have to worry about them again. You can ignore any optional armour, gauntlet and Rush upgrades for now. I recommend collectibles guides online.
Once you beat Catwoman, start a NG+ on the same save file you just beat the game with.
Playthrough 2: Lets say you want to beat Black Mask last for this one.
Put on the zombie suit for the invincibility.
Repeat what I said earlier about Administration first, then Industrial and get the Explosive Gel (and Green Codes early if you want). You can then backtrack and go after Joker since he's in the same building anyway. Then go to the Cell Blocks and go after Penguin. You can then get the Glue Gel upgrade along the way. Leaving you set for Black Mask. Make sure to grab his suit piece. Complete the story and do another NG+ on that save file.
Playthrough 3: Now lets say you want to do Penguin last.
Same deal. Admin first. Then industrial. Only now, you have to get the Green Codes early. You can go after Joker now. Then go to the Cell Blocks. You can choose to play some of Penguin's section until he flees to the Arkham Wing and then get the Glue Gel upgrade here if you want. But you have to get the Glue Gel Upgrade here to be able to go after Black Mask.
Once you do that, and then go after and take down Penguin and then get his suit piece. You are now free to go after any remaining upgrade collectibles one final time. Then you're done. No need to beat the game for the 3rd time.
So yeah, BOAB isn't difficult to platinum once you know what to do but it is confusing to even know what you have to do even if you have a guide at times.
As for the game itself, my feelings on it are complicated. If you asked me what I thought of the game during and even after my first playthrough, I'd tell you I really disliked the game. Maybe even that I hated the game. Because BOAB doesn't make a good first impression.
Let start with the combat. On the surface, it looks similar to typical Arkham combat. You do strikes, can bounce between enemies, counter attacks, cape stun, jump over enemies and ground takedown. Only on a 2D plane. Enemies can move a bit "up and down" on that plane but Batman will usually adjust his position as well to compensate. The issue is the flow and responsiveness. Like, in the main Arkham games, when you're fighting a group of enemies and there is a knife or armoured enemy coming at you and you need to respond, you can typically either try cape stunning them early or jumping ovearound them to evade them. If you do this, Batman will typically "lunge" at the enemy which closes the distance and keeps the flow going. If you have to cape stun an enemy, the game will help you out by prioritizing the most dangerous enemy and even cape stunning multiple enemies if your cape stun gets them as well. This is a bit forgiving, sure, but it ensures the controls are responsive and the player's intentions are read.
BAOB messes this up royally. Moves like the cape stun and counter have no "lunge" nor can they work on multiple enemies at once. So if you do a cape stun, Batman will do it right in front of him. If there isn't an enemy exactly right in front of him, the attack will whiff and you will take a lot of damage. If an enemy is about to attack you and you try responding but there is another enemy close by or next to him, Batman may target that one instead and you will take a lot of damage. Even the dodge/evade move is whack and arguably even less responsive. You are supposed to be able to jump over enemies that are right in front of you by double tapping X but there were times I mashed it and it wouldn't work (and other times it did). And other times when it did register, Batman would do a normal roll which is useless and would result in taking damage. The end result is a combat system that works against the muscle memory learned from every other Arkham game and is still less fun because of how unresponsive it is.
The game has Predator Stealth Sections but they aren't as fun as the main versions. In part because of the limited gadgets and moves. But also partly to the design. Armed enemies do crazy amounts of damage, have great eyesight and can track you much further. Many environments often aren't even big enough or offer enough ways to lose enemies' attention. Resulting in a much slower "trial and error" approach as you find the one set of moves and silent takedowns that work. Even standard moves and approaches in other Arkham games aren't as helpful here. For example, snaring enemies onto gargoyles/vantage points is useless because it attracts too much attention and enemies will see you moving away after doing it.
The other Arkham games were more fun here because the areas were designed with multiple routes so there were multiple options and ways to both take out enemies and escape when you made a mistake. On top of that, enemies didn't have the best eyesight and would even be startled for a few seconds if they saw you. Giving you time to respond by trying to take them out or get away or use smoke bombs etc.
To BAOB's credit, there are some good ideas here. For example, some Predator Sections have chandeliers you can hit with a baterang to make it fall and KO enemies. Some have bells you can hit with a batering to draw enemies attention. But the game never expands on these ideas or fleshes them out so Predator Segments never feel great to play. So I don't believe it's a flaw of the perspective and hardware. I truly believe it was possible for BAOB to have pretty fun and good Predator Segments (hell, Mark of the Ninja shows you can do it in even stricter 2D).
The pacing of the game is also whack. Like I said earlier, Detective Vision doesn't automatically highlight stuff so you have to stop and manually scan stuff. But this also extends to objects you can interact with the environment. Like, if there's a wall you can blow up with the explosive gel to progress, you can't put explosive gel on it until you scan it first. Even if you know that wall is there, you can't target it with the Explosive Gel Launcher until it is scanned. Same for debris or switches you can interact with using the Batering and Batclaw. On top of that, many of these interactibles don't look distinct. Like, in Batman Arkham Asylum, walls you can use the explosive gel on have a crumbled look you can recognize even without Detective Vision. But not so in BAOB where Explosive Gel walls and regular walls look the same. The end result is that it makes a first playthrough extremely stop and go which prevents a good flow going. You're always stopping and looking for things to scan. And once you do, waiting an extra second for it to complete scanning. And doing this hundreds of times for around 8 hours? It really drags the experience down. The experience would be a lot better if the scan was an optional tool beginners could rely on if they were stuck or confused. While if you were more experienced, you could just play normally and use gadgets directly without needing to scan first. And also if the scan was instantaneous.
With all these aspects, I don't blame anyone for dropping this game or disliking it.
However, when I was doing my second playthrough on NG+ for the trophies, something weird happened. I believe it's called Stockholm Syndrome because I was genuinely enjoying myself. I was surprised. Why am I enjoying myself?
I think it's because at that point, I was so used to the game's flaws that I could bypass them and, as a result, see its positives?
Like, the combat still has its issues, but by then, I knew how to position myself beforehand so knife, armoured and baton enemies were less of an issue so I could focus on bouncing between enemies with strikes and counters. Predator Segments were still an issue but I knew from prior trial and errors where to position myself and take out enemies. Navigation was no longer an issue since I already knew where everything was and didn't need to find any collectibles. So I could focus on using my knowledge of the game to speedrun. And that was fun. It was fun charting my own path to play the game in a way as to get all the gadgets and upgrades and hit the bosses in the desired order. And I could appreciate how truly open ended the game was and how it rewarded me for my knowledge by letting me save time by getting gadgets in fewer trips and easily stomping bosses. I truly felt like I was the master here.
The closest analogue would be like a Hitman level where you know exactly where everything is so you just go and get the things and be an absolute master.
Even the story was more interesting. I could read the Detective Cases and see all the background and it's really well thought out. Stuff like how the main bosses each orchestrated their own breakouts and took control or other DC characters like Toy Man were involved.
Of course, the main difference here with something like Hitman, or even other Metroidvanias is that the experience is fun on the first playthrough and that the mechanics are solid enough that you don't need to "get used to the flaws" to have fun. Like, it's nice that I eventually came to enjoy and appreciate BAOB, but the experience would have been better if the combat flowed better, if Predator Sections were more open ended, if the game didn't require you to scan everything. Then even a first playthrough would be more fun and more people would see the game's more unique aspects.
Playing BAOB made me wish for a modern remake of this game. One with those improved combat/stealth etc but also more open ended design.
Imagine a 3D version of this game. Like, Batman Arkham Asylum but a complete Metroidvania where you can explore different parts of the Asylum, pick up gadgets in different orders and boss fights and sequences would be different depending on when you do them. Basically, BAOB but on steroids.
In closing, BAOB is arguably the worst Arkham game. Its execution of many of the gameplay features of its console counterparts is often lacking. But it's arguably the most unique Arkham game for how truly open ended it is and how cool it is as a Metroidvania. I wish this game had more time and resources during development because it could have been one of the best games in this series and on the VITA.
This is probably going to be my last platinum for a while. I might do Lego Batman 2 VITA at some point in the future. I'm currently playing Rainbow 6 Siege and it's quite fun. Don't have any plans to write about it though.
See you all in 2024.

Folks, it's time to dive under the sea once again. Over the last few years, Disney has recreated their top animated musical films into live-action movies. The Little Mermaid is no different, and viewers can't wait to swim into theaters to catch a glimpse of how the movie will stand up against the original version.
Walt Disney Studios has established a remarkable trend of making live-action remakes of its classic stories. One after the other, all the fairytales of the past era are being brought to life by the studio in an attempt to tell the magical stories in a new light of living characters. With the live-action Peter Pan & Wendy due out in April, Disney will continue their string of live-action remakes a month later with The Little Mermaid.
Get ready to go "under the sea!" The latest of Disney's hugely successful line of live-action remakes, Ariel (Halle Bailey) is set to return to theaters for the first time in almost thirty-five years with The Little Mermaid (2023). The Walt Disney Company once again invites audiences to travel under the sea to see Princess Ariel's story unfold like never before. Featuring direction from veteran musical filmmaker Rob Marshall and other roles inhabited by major Hollywood stars like Melissa McCarthy as Ursula the Sea Witch and Javier Bardem as King Triton, the film is bound to be a bona fide hit at the box office.
Though the upcoming and highly anticipated film will have stiff competition against two stand-up comedians on the weekend it releases, The Little Mermaid is destined to show that life is better down where it's wetter under the sea this Summer movie season. To find showtimes and streaming information on Disney's latest big-budget reimagining of an animated classic, here is where you can watch The Little Mermaid.
Actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, the iconic mermaid princess who longs to be part of the the mysteriously world housed above the ocean floor. When she saves the handsome Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) from a shipwreck, she makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) in order to gain human legs and go on land to impress him. But there's one catch to the transaction: Ariel must trade her voice in order for her to try and see the things she's after. But as fans of the original 1989 film know, this comes with a series of consequences that threaten both her existence and the lives of those she loves.
Before we ask if you're interested in seeing this, we know you are. But like us, you're probably wondering how to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online. Luckily, we have some clues and it's likely to land on a major streaming site very soon. So climb aboard, because here's where to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online.
What Is the Release Date for The Little Mermaid?
Ariel's quest to go from a mermaid into a human begins anew when The Little Mermaid premieres this Memorial Day Weekend on Friday, May 26th, 2023. The film will be going up against not one, but two stand-up comedians and their films that weekend, with Sebastian Maniscalco's About My Father and Bert Kreischer's The Machine premiering on the same day. That said, The Little Mermaid will almost certainly be the choice for younger audiences and families.
While some Disney films are heading straight to Disney+, The Little Mermaid will first be shown exclusively in theaters.
Where To Watch The Little Mermaid Online:
As of now, the only way to watch Fast X is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on May 26, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango.

Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+.
How to Watch The Little Mermaid
At the moment, you can watch The Little Mermaid at your local theater. But like most movies these days, it should hit a streaming website in the near future.
Like its predecessor, The Little Mermaid is a flick produced by multimedia conglomerate Disney. What's more, the production studio owns a number of other famous franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Titles made under these umbrellas have both hit Disney+ sometime after arriving at the box office. Fans may also know the original Little Mermaid is currently available to stream on the site as well. So, if the 2023 version follows the same pattern, folks will likely get to see The Little Mermaid on Disney+ later this year too.
As for an exact release date for The Little Mermaid, that's more complicated. Most movies produced by Disney often go to its streamer site within three months after debuting in theaters, like the most recent Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If this is the case for The Little Mermaid, it will probably drop in late August 2023 or sometime near Labor Day in early September.
When the time comes for The Little Mermaid to splash onto Disney+ though, make sure you're all prepared to watch it. If you don't have access yet, you can opt into a 30-day free trial before choosing a plan that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After your account is all set, click on the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app.
As you wait for The Little Mermaid to hit the streamer, why don't you watch the animated version and its sequel The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea? Or if you want to immerse yourself in another live-action version, click on the 2019 ABC TV special The Little Mermaid Live!. Enjoy!
Will The Little Mermaid Be in Theaters or on Streaming?
Unlike several of Disney's other live-action remakes such as Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid will be exclusively in movie theaters first with tickets available for pre-sale now.
After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, the film will be released on the Disney+ streaming service. Based on Disney's past release models, the film won't be made available to stream before 45 to 90 days after its theatrical release.
When will The Little Mermaid be streaming on Disney+?
The Little Mermaid Disney+ premiere date is tentatively estimated to be August 30, 2023.
While no official Little Mermaid streaming date has been confirmed by Disney, most of its major movie releases drop on Disney+ following a minimum 90-day period, and typically premiere on the platform on Wednesdays, making Wednesday, August 30 the most likely date for Disney’s The Little Mermaid live-action streaming release.
Will The Little Mermaid Be Streaming On Disney+?
The 2023 version of The Little Mermaid will only be in theaters initially. After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, it is likely to stream on Disney Plus. You can also watch the animated version of Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairy tale of Ariel on Disney Plus now.
While you will only be able to catch the new "The Little Mermaid" in theaters starting next Friday, you can still sign up for Disney+ now to refresh yourself on the characters, song, plot and magical fun from the highly anticipated film. The 1989 version of the movie was a catalyst for Disney's animation renaissance throughout the '90s and it still holds up today.
An ad-supported Disney+ subscription starts at $8 per month, but you can get an ad-free access to the service for $11 monthly or bundle the Disney streaming service with Hulu and ESPN+ starting at $13 per month. Disney+ boasts a huge collection of movies and television series, including Marvel and Star Wars content. If you add in Hulu and ESPN, you have nearly unlimited entertainment at your fingertips.
Is The Little Mermaid streaming on Netflix?
No, The Little Mermaid will not be on Netflix — at least not any time soon. In the meantime, you’ll just have to head out to a movie theater or wait for it to become available to stream on Disney+.
Will The Little Mermaid Be On HBO Max?
No, The Little Mermaid will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Is The Little Mermaid Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie The Little Mermaid on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

The Little Mermaid Cast and Characters
The Little Mermaid was written by David Magee and directed by Rob Marshall. It stars the following actors:
What is The Little Mermaid About?
The official synopsis for The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Studios read:
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
There is not much mystery in The Little Mermaid's plot. As seen in Disney's many other live-action remakes, it is anticipated that the film's plot will largely stick to the original. With the well-known song "Part of Your World," in which Ariel sings about her wish to be a part of the world beyond the water, i.e., the human realm, the teaser already alluded to Ariel's fascination with the human world. 2023.06.01 22:19 Aye_OK LGBTQ+ Representation in Fire Emblem and how they screwed it up almost every time. Part 1

In honor of pride month, here's a look back at all the missteps in the era in which FE was financially sustainable and reflect on how far the latest entry Engage has come since then.
Starting with Fire Emblem Awakening, you don't get shit. Infact they actively put a cog in the popular Ike gay theory out of I assume, only spite. Meet Priam, Ike's descendant. I couldn't secound morgage my house to play the tellius games, but I do know Ike has a hot sister (In radiant dawn). So there is still hope. But let it be a sign to come.
Fates has two gay romance options, the criminally sex obsessed pervert Niles and the other criminally corrin obsessed Tharja 2. Big improvement from awakening, except it's a trap. If you pick either of these options, you can say goodbye to your daughter Kana or goodbye to your son Kana AND Nina. The paralogues for these characters won't unlock if you pick either of the gay options, they are just obliterated from the timeline. The game actively punishes you for being gay, and you lose your biggest ally in Nina by doing so.
I know what you're thinking, where's Soliel? She's explicitly stated to be bi in her paralogue. Laslow nearly goes off on that incestual bigot Silas because of that. Well, you can't romance her as Female Corrin. Infact she can't romance anyone but Forrest and Male Corrin specifically. The reason for this is a difference in culture between the game's native Japan and Western market and how her characterization radically changed between regions.
Soleil's sexuality in Japan is the most convoluted piece of Fire Emblem lore I've ever seen. But I think I have a pretty decent answer which you definitely shouldn't yell at me for, I'm trying my best. In my opinion, Soleil's attractive to cute girls is not the same as romantic interest. In Japan her cute girl obsession is treated as childish and a "weakness", the same a Selena's shopping obsession. It's something to get over and to drive supports as a gimmick. It's not meant to be viewed with a critical eye that's trying to find where it fits on a western notion of sexuality, because it's not written with the intent of being a strictly defined sexuality. Her character development in Japan is her getting over this weakness and settling down with a man, someone who she won't be whimsically obsessed over. It's why there's no possibility, even with Female Corrin, that she ends up with a cute girl despite fawning over them constantly. It's sometimes said that she takes from a Japanese trope involving young girls that flirt with other girls as practice or teasing or a game and it definitely fits more than trying to explain Soleil as an adult who had first year seminar in college with a gay teacher and therefore knows everything about LGBTQ+ people and their problems.
Obviously, this would not go well in this western hemisphere, we have a very ironclad view of sexuality as being unchanging and clearly defined, something Japan is a looser with. Even Forrest is allowed to be pretty ambiguous likes and sense of self in Japan but in the U.S. won't shut the fuck up about being a man that just so happens to look girly MOM.
In the west (U.S. and others), Soleil is definitely bisexual! But also, terribly written and unfinished. The treehouse, who localized fates, new this shit wouldn't hold up to western scrutiny, so they completely overhauled Soleil's character. And by that, I mean they nuked almost every romantic S support she has. They thought that if Soleil can't have women S supports than she can't have any at all. We can't give her female S supports because it's too late so we remove that ones that were already finished, that way no one wins, and nobody can complain.
The male Soliel S supports are so fucking bad now. Her S support with Asugi is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen in my life, Asugi excepted the role as my wife's husband before my wife's girlfriend was even in the picture. They were all changed into this awkward second A support where they expand their relationship but in purely professional way. Unless it's with Siebert in which you rightfully get demoted for being horny. At least the male supports are a better then SoleilxOphelia garbage ship at least something good came sacrificing the S supports.
Soleil fucked it up again, she's out of control. The Japanese support between Corrin and Soleil is really confusing and fucking stupid. Essentially, she wants to get over her cute girl weakness, so Corrin secretly drugs her with a potion that swaps the genders. It doesn't actually cure Soliel her lebanesiesiom but apparently did enough to where she realized her feelings for Corrin despite him being a man. Popular outrage was that this support was comparable to conversion therapy. In my opinion, I think the real main issue was the drugging part, but I can definitely understand why someone would think it was conversion. It's phrased in very stupid and childish way that if you applied adult western ideas of sexuality, you would definitely come to that conclusion. I think the intent was that it was more about Soleil getting over her childish obsession with cute girls rather than her changing sexuality. It got changed in the west, I think mostly to remove the drugging part, because the support has the same concept it's just less offensive all around.
I think the moral of the story with Soleil is that if you try and use any complex ideas to understand her character you're going to get burned because she's a big dumb baby that ruined Fire Emblem's localization forever. We should stan our actually bi queens' sex obsessed pervert 1 and Tharja 2, even if they abort Kana without knowing it.
I release part 2 if I get over my threshold of 0 karma. And if I got something wrong let me know, I'm doing most of this by memory and by these sources.

2023.06.01 22:11 windksr AITA for inviting my niece on vacation?

I (36F) am going on vacation in Los Angeles with my husband (36M) and our 3 kids (15M, 14F, and 12M) at the beginning of July. We have been planning this trip for a few months now, but have no real solid plans on what we want to do or visit and are open to changes.
A few days ago, I was at my sister’s (34F) house. She has 4 children (15F, 13M, 3F, and 1M) with her husband (34M), she is also pregnant with their 5th. This summer, their 13 y/o, Cillian, will be at some type of baseball camp in the Dominican Republic, including in early July. We are all really excited for Cillian as this is a great opportunity for him and he truly loves being a baseball player. Cillian is definitely the most active of any of the kids (including mine) as he also takes Korean lessons, plays hockey and does a lot of community service.
My 15 y/o niece, Constance, isn’t nearly as active as her brother and my sister and her husband have never really forced her to be. Constance is much more into TikTok, YouTube and reality TV, which is why my husband and I thought it would be a good idea to invite Constance on the trip.
The issue is our oldest has an issue with that. Our oldest and Constance both are freshmen in the same high school, though they don’t have any classes together. Constance had some issues in the first quarter with her being mean to a girl because she was dating a guy Constance likes, she also had a few incidents with another boy she was being mean to, but hasn’t had any problems since the first quarter. Our oldest says he still thinks Constance is a bully and isn’t actually sorry, that she’s just faking it to end criticism. He also has an issue with Constance being more into TikTok and other social media like I mentioned she is, he saying bringing someone as “fame-obsessed” as her could ruin the trip, he was complaining about her personality to, saying that she has no career goals besides TikTok or Youtube and how that makes her stupid in his view.
My son was talking to the boy she bullied earlier this year, as he is a casual friend of his. He said that the boy shouldn’t have suffered through the homophobia and that Constance “hasn’t fu**king changed” when I asked him about it but didn’t elaborate on why he thinks that.
My son is now saying he may just stay with a friend during the week I am gone, our 14 y/o wants Constance to come and our 12 y/o is pretty indifferent but our oldest is trying to persuade him to be against her coming to. I feel bad for Constance bc her Cillian is going away and still think she should have the opportunity to come with us and my husband agrees, but our son is really pushing back and saying there’s a reason that no one at school actually likes her (according to him) and that we are just enabling her “selfishness”. AITA?

Guide available! Go here.
Series beginning is here.
[First] Prev/ Next
Once we had taken down the camp, I loaded the cart with the animal carcasses using my Hands of Air. While I was strong, there was no way I was lifting a female Dire Bear. Once our quarry was loaded onto the cart, I helped my Haarthuu friends up as well. They all situated themselves in the front seat, and I took my place behind the handle.
“Off we go!” I exclaimed and pushed off from the ground. It was difficult to get the cart rolling, but once I did, keeping it there wasn’t too much strain.
We continued in this way for about five hours, which is when we came to a hill that I would be unable to climb with the cart, and I doubted my companions would be much help. I had stopped and was leaning against the handle, breathing hard and heavily.
“Well, I can’t climb this, and I don’t have it in me to tunnel through. What should we do, Liss-ran?” I asked, panting.
Liss-ran sat there in a slight panic. “Um, I’m not sure. If there were Uror nearby, I’d say to convince one of them to help?”
I snapped my fingers. “That’s it! I’ll call Walter,” I said happily.
I closed my eyes and leaned on the cart.
Walter?
“Yeah, Boss? You okay? You sound beat.
“I’m fine. Just kinda tired. Where are you located right now? I could use some help.”
“Yeah? Let’s see…. I’m about an hour or so away from where you are right now. What’s going on?”
“I’m pulling a cart through the woods back to Haruma. I’ve hit a hill that I can’t pull it over. It’s too loaded down, and I’m not strong enough.”
Ah. I see. Well, I can be there in an hour. Or should I send someone else?
“Well, this cart is narrower than the last. It may be a bit uncomfortable for you.”
“Okay. I can send a kid over to you. They’ll be able to carry you and pull the cart.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, boss. She’s on her way right now. From a different herd, so she can get to you faster.
“Okay. Should I give her some of my magic so she can communicate with me, or are you the only member I will be able to speak with? I don’t know how this all works.”
“Nah. Don’t worry about it. She’ll be able to understand you, and will take you home no sweat. If she decides to stick around, I might uhh… claim her. Have your woman try to bond with her.”
I laughed and let the matter drop. “Okay Walter. Thanks man. If there’s anything I can do for you, let me know. Oh. We’re leaving the week after last frost. Heading to Klearm. If you could meet us in Haruma beforehand, I’ll make sure you’re fed well and your coat is nice and shiny.
You got it, Boss! Looking forward to it!
I pulled my Pack off, and removed a large piece of leather, as well as my tools. “Gonna need these in a few. We have a female Uror heading our way. I’m going to make a harness and a saddle for her once she gets here, and we will be on our way. Sound good?” I announced.
Four heads looked at one another, then at me. “How did you manage that, Ivor?” Liss-ran asked incredulously.
“Uh, I just reached out to Walter, the Uror that brought us here. Apparently when you bond yourself to a Uror, you can speak with them from great distances. He’s an hour away. The female should be here much quicker. She’s from a more local herd,” I explained. “I won’t be able to speak with her the same as I do Walter, but I was instructed to see if Elizabet would like to try and bond with her.” I concluded.
“Okaaayyy….. If you say so, Ivor. I guess we get to see a different Uror,” Liss-ran said, shaking her head.
I rested there, cutting some strips from the leather for makeshift reins, belts and straps. I also took the time to fashion buckles from the Duplicated knife blade I had in my Pack. About fifteen minutes after I had finished making those, a shaggy Uror trundled up and halted beside the cart. She snorted and stamped a paw on the ground, seemingly eager to get this over with.
“Hello, my lady! Thank you for answering Walter’s call to help us. I trust he has explained the situation to you?” I said to the shaggy beast.
She tossed her head twice, which I took as an affirmative. “Excellent. Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to fit you for a harness so we can hitch you to the wagon. Would you mind if I got to work? I’ll do my best to make it as comfortable as possible. If it pinches or is uncomfortable, please snort twice,” I said, receiving another toss of her head.
I smiled and got to work, crafting the harness from memory and sizing it to fit the much smaller female. After a few mistakes, she and I fell into a routine, and I had the harness crafted in short order. Once I explained the concept of the saddle to her, I began the process of making that, with similar results. All in all, it took us the better part of an hour to finish the work.
“There we are. Hmm. You know, I can’t just call you ‘Uror’ or something like that. May I call you Lady?” I asked.
The shaggy beast was still for a moment, and then tossed her head twice. “Excellent, Lady! I am Ivor, and we are going to Haruma. I will direct you, if that’s okay?” Another head toss and she began to strain against the weight of the cart. I quickly climbed up, and we were off.
With the assistance of Lady, we made short work of the hill in front of us. I let her choose the pace, and we were slowly, but steadily, on our way to Haruma once more.
“Liss-ran? How long do you think we have until we get home?” I asked.
“At this rate?” she said, taking stock of our surroundings and pace. “We should be there around dinnertime, I’d say.”
“Awesome. Just in time to have some of Gon-rash’s amazing cooking. This day is getting better and better!” I said happily, shrugging my Pack back onto my shoulders.
We rode and chatted for another hour or so, and I saw how lifted everyone’s spirits were. Even Tren-sun was cracking jokes and smiling.
After an hour or so, Kilik-ma called out, “Hey Ivor. What kind of entertainment does your world have?”
“Entertainment? Well, we have books, plays, theater, dance, songs, musical bands, and a form of entertainment that absolutely doesn’t and hopefully will never exist on Chaia, television,” I said. “Why?”
“Well, Liss-ran was describing your music to me when we were hunting, and I was curious to hear some.”
“Oh. Well, that device is back in Haruma, actually. I left it with Elizabet for safe-keeping, so I can’t use it right now to show you my music,” I said regretfully.
“Oh. Okay,” Tren-sun said, sounding dejected.
“But I’m feeling pretty good, so how about I sing a song for you?” I ventured.
Four voices replied in the affirmative, and even Lady tossed her head. Looks like I was committed. I racked my brain, trying to think of a decent one that I actually knew all the lyrics to, when a shiver ran through me. That’s it! I took a deep breath and began…
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?....” My rich baritone rang out through the forest, echoing off the trees and the mountain beside us.
As I was atop Lady and had my eyes closed, I was naturally unable to see the stunned reactions on the faces of my companions, as I was also facing away from them.
As I sang, the very air around us changed. The scent of snow that I had grown accustomed to had multiplied, finally depositing its bounty of crystalline glory across the entirety of the forest. Unnoticed by me, some of the buckles had been Duplicated, and now hung on the reins as small tinkling bells.
A smattering of small, blue birds had taken flight shortly after I began, wheeling their way south. The Haarthuu watched, openmouthed, as they took flight, as there had been no birds in those trees before.
Feeling joy course through my core, I opened my eyes to a forest covered in a blanket of fluffy snow. I continued, nearly trancelike, with my song, seeing the images from my mind’s eye blossom into being in a clearing to our left.
Two people made of snow, resembling myself and Elizabet, were building another snowman, giving him a defined beard and a book. These snowy puppets acted out the lyrics to the song I was singing, bowing and dancing about.
The scene shifted, and there was a fireplace made of snow, complete with dancing flames made of snow within. Two puppets, easily the size of a dire bear, pantomimed speaking and were then covered by a snowy blanket.
Once more, we saw an empty field, with the same three puppets from before. They danced and glided about the field, “speaking” to the snow-preacher.
As my song concluded, we saw the two puppets walking arm-in-arm beside the cart, and then they collapsed into a pile of wet snow once I closed my mouth.
As I came back to my senses, I realized I was sweating profusely, and my stomach was protesting loudly.
“Ivor. What. Did. You. Just. Do?” Liss-ran asked breathlessly.
I sat there, panting. Trembling, I reached into my coat for the jerky that I had taken to keeping there. I began stuffing piece after piece into my starving gullet, trying to stave off the unconsciousness that loomed on my horizon. I swallowed more and more of the meat, my mouth eventually going dry. I slung my Pack to the front, and pulled out the pitcher and drank deeply of its cool bounty.
My thirst slaked, my hunger staved off for the moment, I turned and looked at Liss-ran.
“I have no idea. It looks like I can’t be singing things like that. I hope I haven’t royally mucked up the weather…” I said in a shaky voice.
“Was that the Ancient Tongue?” asked Piri-thak.
“Huh?”
“Ivor, we couldn’t understand a word of that. Are you telling me that you didn’t realize you were singing in the Ancient Tongue?” Liss-ran asked gently.
Realization hit me like a truck. I sang the weather into existence. It was effortless and easy. I didn’t even register that I was doing so until after I was done and the shakes hit. What’s more, I sang what I saw in my head into existence. All the images I would see when I heard that song manifested in this world as snowy puppets and props. Even the bells that were on the harness were exactly as my mind’s eye saw them. I could only guess that I may have created a new species of bird. I felt mortified.
“No… I had no idea I wasn’t singing in your language. Well. Now to deal with the fallout. Is this the normal time the snows would begin, Liss-ran?” I asked quietly.
“Thankfully, yes. It’s a week early, but nothing too far out of the ordinary. I wouldn’t worry too much about altering the weather. Those birds, though. That may be a different story. There _were _only twenty or so,” she replied.
I nodded and closed my mouth. This was a new lesson, and one that I needed to ensure stayed present in my mind. I zipped my coat up against the wind, and Lady trudged on.
As the skies darkened, we could see the main road that led into our home. Kilik-ma jumped down and raced ahead, probably to let the village know we were back a little early.
About ten minutes after he left, we had a throng of people rushing out to meet us. At the forefront were Elizabet, Talah-ma’at and our boys.
“Hi everyone! We’re a little early, I know. We’ve got some goodies in the back of the wagon, and a lot more in my Pack. Let’s get Lady into the city, and we’ll unload everything, okay?” I called out.
The crowd of maybe thirty individuals parted and walked beside us like an honor guard, leading the Uror into the central hall of Haruma. Once inside, I called the gentle beast to a halt, and dismounted. I unhooked her from the cart and began to remove her harness when she snorted twice.
“Lady? Is something the matter?”
The Uror walked out of the twin shafts of the cart and turned to face us. Or, more specifically, she faced Elizabet. She looked directly at her and tossed her head.
“Present your magic to her, Elizabet. See if she’ll take it,” I said softly.
Slowly, Elizabet raised a trembling hand and a small, iron-gray sphere rose from her palm and hovered four inches above it. She approached the shaggy beast with her outstretched hand, and waited.
Lady stepped forward and gently plucked the sphere from Elizabet with a delicate tongue. She stood there chewing on it for a moment, and it was then that I heard Elizabet gasp.
“She said her name is Lola. And that she’ll follow us wherever we go. And that you…” she trailed off and turned to stare at me with an arched brow. In a low, dangerous tone she said, “What. Did. You. Do?”
I knew that tone. I sighed and shook my head. “Thanks, Lola. I was going to get around to that shortly.” I said in a wry voice. I looked Elizabet in the eye. “I appear to be able to control the weather to a degree. I don’t know to what extent it goes, but…. I sang a song into existence,” I said, defeated.
Elizabet looked confused. “You… Wait, you can sing?”
Liss-ran piped up. “His voice is rich and deep, too! It was nice,” she said with a little giggle.
“And loud. He has some lung power, he does,” Tren-sun added.
“Does anybody else wish to make her even more upset with me than she already is?” I asked in a loud, exasperated tone. “No? Thank you.”
“Try it again, Ivor. Tell me what you did,” Elizabet said firmly, crossing her arms beneath her prodigious chest.
“Yes, genius. Tell us what wonder you pulled out of your ass this time,” Blainaut said, coming up from behind Elizabet.
“Oh, gods. Not again,” I said, hanging my head.

There were only twenty or so,” she replied.

2023.06.01 21:51 Halfdan_the_Halfman [EVENT]'An Order Resurgent'

May 1519
Under the leadership of Wolter Von Plettenberg the Livonian Order had transformed. Wrenching free of the decline of the Teutonic Order and taking once again the name of the Livonian Brothers of the Sword three times have they warred with Muscovy, and three times they have emerged victorious!
In Each war more territory, money, and glory were gained by the Knightly Brothers, and with the incorporation of Ingria the Livonian Confederation expanded dramatically. All this is thanks to the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. With this resurgent power, Landmeister Wolter von Plettenberg now turns his attention inward.
Seeking to revive and reform sections of the Order that had withered after their near dissolution following the infamous Battle of Saule.
The Skill of Squires
In Ingria the Squires of the Brothers proved their worth and valor in the muddy terrain against the Muscovite cavalry. Many squires were young men, though not all, and many were Knighted at the end of the campaign after proving their skill in the field. The effectiveness of this light cavalry in terrain that often gave the heavily armored Brothers difficulty has left a notable impression upon the Landmeister, and now he intends to institutionalize this practice. Going forward all Squires and other Knightly attendants will be trained as light cavalry before earning their spurs. Wolter Von Plettenberg hopes that this will create an effective secondary cavalry force that will prove better as scouts and will be able to fight in terrain the Livonian Knights would find difficult or impossible to fight in mounted as their dignity requires.
Sergeants of the Order
When the Order was at the peak of its strength, before its incorporation into the Teutonic Order after the Battle of Saule, there was a third branch of both the military and leadership of the Order. In addition to the Knights and Priests who make up the Order, there were the dutiful Sergeants. At the time these men had served with distinction as a force of light cavalry, and for their valor had position within the Order as well as took part in the election of the Grand Master and administration and holding of land.
With the Order's power on the rise, the Landmeister wishes to revive this branch of the Order, albeit in a different form. The Landsknecht of Germany proved their worth and honor against the Muscovites in the field, and it is the success of these pikemen and the Reislaufer of the Swiss that Wolter intends for the revived Sergeants to imitate.
With this in mind, and with the Brothers stretched thin to properly administrate and run their newly acquired lands, it is to the many small German nobles and experienced mercenaries and financiers of Prussia that the Landmeister would offer these new positions too.
The Prussian gentry of this nature would be invited themselves, or for their sons and other relatives, to join the Order as Sergeants. Their expertise would serve to re-build the institution in the way the Landmeister imagines quickly, and in return, they would be granted land and titles in Ingria and Livonia as bailiffs, captains, and other officials as are needed within the growing and resurgent Holy Order.

[M: will need moderators to inform of any associated costs to pay, as Wolter Von Plettenberg formalizes the training of Squires as light Cavalry, and seeks to revive the Sergeants of the Order as disciplined Pikemen in the style of Reislaufer and Landsknecht by inviting and incentivizing the minor 'mercenary' gentry of Prussia with land, titles, and authority. Combination of military and administrative reform to bring the order back to its height of glory]

2023.06.01 21:44 casssac- My (F32) aunt (f66) wants to talk about her son (m26) who wronged me for a whole year

I've always loved my aunt and uncle, even living in different provinces. They're kind, nerdy and quirky, and in some ways more like me than my own mum is. They have a son several years younger than me who I only saw occasionally as he was growing up because we lived far apart.
A year and a half ago I moved to a new province around the same time as my cousin was also moving to this province, which has a brutal rental market, so I said he could move into my spare room while he looked for his own place. In the year he lived with me he went to see one single apartment, never swept the dirt he brought in from work, never cleaned the bathroom that he monopolized, smoked weed in the house and lied about it, never washed his sheets (destroying a brand new mattress), nearly started a fire in the kitchen and watched me clean it up, and on and on. There's more to it, including him bragging about the money he was making and saving but not ever offering to pitch in for a bill or talk about paying more rent than the less than half of market rent I offered when he first moved.
A lot of the problem comes down to me not being able to stand up for myself, or to state clearly my expectations etc, but frankly I never expected to be treated so inconsiderately by a family member, especially from that branch of the family I love so much. The closest I got to an apology after I had enough and asked him to move out was "I don't know how to apologize meaningfully."
My aunt finally found out that her son is disgusting and treated my home like he didn't GAF and wants to talk to me on the phone.
Do I bother? A friend asked what I was hoping to get out of the conversation. I think I want an acknowledgement that her adult son is not finished growing up or that they messed up something in raising him, or at least that she's embarrassed and sorry. Just some acknowledgement that I'm the wronged party and she and my uncle stop making stupid comments about cousin getting kicked out during family chats.

2023.06.01 21:43 BerryMochi19 The Enchanted Ones “Journey of the Believers”

Chapter 1
The Villager’s Warning
In the North near the tempestuous mountains and the groves of the Relum trees, which grow relum, which are like sweet pears, was a prosperous village called “ Alestra”. Alestra is a medium-sized village known for its cloying relums and its soft and crumbly soil perfect for the trees and gardens. They lived a humble and healthy life supplying themselves with veggies and meat from the boars they hunted. The water from Rivenile was the source of their agricultural success and survival. The sound of little children having fun exploring the fields of grain while their family works diligently on the farms. Most of the children spend their time outside either helping with their family's farm or playing near the grains and on the trees playing fun games. All except one particular boy who will spend his days indoors writing stories and reading about the fascinating creatures he wishes to discover. His name was Aran Yearwood, a 12-year-old with red hair living with his parents who helped the village by transporting their food and veggies to nearby villages. Aran eagerly followed his father, perpetually saying “Father, can I hear the story about the Rift Creators of the Coliseum again please?”. The father replied, “ How about tonight when your mother is back for dinner, is that alright?”. “ Yes Father,” said Aran. Aran rushed to his room whose walls were covered with sheets of drawings and a portrait of his family right in the center of his room. His desk was piled with books and maps slightly torn and dirty. His bed was big enough for him, and a little chest lay at the end of the bed to store the items he cherished. Aran sat on his chair and picked up a book labeled “ Creatures of the Night” and he sat on his bed and read from where he began. Meanwhile, the Father went near his stable and put the ponderous goods on the wagon when he smelled a putrid stench of a rotting corpse. The father looked around to find the smell and discovered a Villager riding a horse carrying a wagon with numerous dead bodies disfigured and all missing body parts. “ What happened to them!?” stuttered the father in shock. “ To be honest I don’t know?” said the villager. “It might be a wolf or a bear,” said the villager. “That can’t be bears since it's winter,” said the father. “We might have to stop shipment to other villages,” said the villager. “Why, though, it's only a few animals we can take care of,” said the father. “Well, that depends if the mayor agrees,” the villager says. “Shouldn’t we mail this to animal control, maybe they can control these beasts,” the father said. “Already mailed it to them, should be arriving in a few weeks or so”. The villager rode his horse to the village square leaving the father worried. When it was nightfall the family was at the dinner table eating their food. They had a hot and warm meat pie filled with lamb and pork all mixed with gravy with a side of pan-fried spinach. After their dinner, Aran rushed towards his room with his father following him. “ Are you gonna tell me the story Father?” asked Aran. “ Alright, hold your patience,” said the father as he sat down on the bed. “ The story of the ..colosseum begins with the Greater wills, gods who judge the realms and serve as the way of evolution”. “When these gods see someone they love they give birth to the demigods. “ Each demigod ruled the realms and served as a ruler for their realms,” asked the Father. “ They had abilities like gravity, time, War, pestilence, and even death, while others had less powerful abilities like sand,” said the father. “ Each of the demigods is known to be the best and the most revered in their worlds.,” said the father in a Joyous mood. '' “All had everything they could need in their lives, but some wanted more”. The father looked outside the dark knight. “ Well it's getting late. The father replied with a tired tone “ Sleep well Aran”. “Can you finish the story tomorrow? " asked Aran, resting his head on the pillow. “Of course,” said the father. Aran closed his eyes and dreamed of himself in the stars, seeing the planets go by as he feels the
5 years later
Aran who was now 17 got off his bed with his room no longer having the drawings he used to have and the desk he still had an accumulation of books. He passed his parent's room and went into the kitchen to make his parents some breakfast. Aran's parents were always tired of the number of resources needed for other villages and Aran’s mother sprained her knee when running back to the village. Aran grabbed a few thick pork slices and chopped them to put on the ardent sizzling pan. Aran proceeded to crack a few eggs, mix them with scallions, and place them on the pan with the pork bits until they were cooked well. The sound of the sizzling food awoke the father as he peeked through the kitchen to see his son cook. The father asks” Son it's still dark outside why are you up this early”. “I wanted to give you something to eat while I’m gone with the delivery for the next town,” said Aran. “ Alone, you can’t be alone when Wendigos are out on the road”. “ Let me come and help you deliver the food..” but as the father said that he was cut off and the Aron said, “ It's alright I brought a knife with me and I’ll be cautious”. Aran exited the house and went near the stable to ride his horse carrying the fruits and vegetables on his side. Aran rode his horse down the road to the village square. The village square had big houses with markets surrounding the houses and farms surrounding the Relum trees growing ever so long behind the village. The villagers look depleted and worn out. Aran rode his horse to the other houses to ask for resources and food they offered them all saying “ Tell Newberry to stay strong”. After Aran was finished taking the villager's supplies for Newberry he went to the village chief to gather his resources. He knocked on the door of the Mayor's house and saw him with a pile of water buckets, a few bags of gold, and Packs of wood. “ Ah Aran, please put this on your cart and tell Newberry to stay safe and have hope”. “Of course chief,” said Aran. Aran rode his horse to the village gate next to the tower post. When Aran was next to the post a Knight went outside of the tower replying “ What is your business of leaving Alestra '' . “ I’m transporting my family’s food to the village of Newberry, “ said Aran. “ The village of Newberry isn't doing well since the Wendigos raided them, they're going to need those supplies” said the knight. Aran was permitted to leave Alestera and Aran continued his journey on the path. Aran passed through from a few corpses to an abundance of them until Aran saw the village. The village was burned and ravaged with dark smoke covering the sky and the stench of burning flesh still in the air. Aran rushed to the village to see if anybody survived but found none survived. When Aran was about to leave he saw smoke coming out of the forest, Aran rode his horse swiftly and came to the source of the fire. He saw a few villagers and a small number of children near the fire scared and tired from the raid. “ Are you the villagers of Newberry?” asked Aran. “ We used to be until the Wendigos attacked,” said an elderly lady. Aran with a shocked look on his face asked: “ What about the knights”. “ Most of them died fighting while some died running,” said the old man next to the lady. “ Some more knights tried to help but those insidious beasts forestalled ”. Aran was worried for the villagers of Newberry and shouted“ I have resources from the town of Alestra and we have come for your help!!!”. All the villagers looked at Aran as he continued to shout “ Please gather any resources you need and help yourself to the food you need to survive with!!!”. The Villagers filled with hope and joy rushed to the cart and gathered all the supplies. They were all eating and drinking and covering themselves with blankets making them feel just a little bit safer. “ We don’t know how to thank you, young sir,” said a man with his children next to him. “ Please sir you don’t have to do anything, but if you and the others need help we're just a few miles away south,” said Aran. Aran left with an empty cart and a feeling of beatitude when he saw the villagers of Newberry full of bliss and hope. Halfway through his trip back to his village the horse instantaneously stopped and nearly threw Aran off the horse. “ Stay here Becky,” said Aran smoothly. He jumped off the horse and looked all around to see if anything would jump out and attack him. Suddenly he heard a large screeching sound mixed with screeching. He heard rustling and sticks being broken. He heard the noise again except it was teeth chattering and the sound of a loud sharp horn was closer. “ We have to go, Becky,” said Aran urgently as he jumped on his horse and rode as fast as he could. Aran heard the sound come closer and faster towards him. Aran had the sudden urge to stop the horse midway. Aran stopped his horse and soon after a dark wendigo jumped out in front of him and crashed near some trees and was unconscious for a few seconds. Aran used that time to ride away while horrified by that chase. The wendigo screeched in anger as Aran was out of its sight. Aran returned to the village sweaty and scared and opened the doors only to be on his knees. The father rushed up to him with the mother following him slowly. “ Aran what happened to you?!” asked the father in a frightened manner. “I escaped from a wendigo,” said Aran panting. “ How in this world did you survive?!” asked the father. “ Raranold, let the Aran rest now,” said the mother. “ Aran is traumatized enough for today, we can ask when he is ready but for now let him sleep and rest”. The father took a deep breath and said to Aran “ You can go upstairs and we’ll cook something for you, is that okay ''. “That's okay,” Aran replied. Aran went upstairs to his room and went to his bed to sit. Aran heard voices from downstairs wanting to hear what his parents were talking about. Aran opened the door quietly, walked on the stairs sneakily, and peered through the kitchen to hear what they were saying. “ 7 people died on that road and were eaten, there is no way our son could survive one of their attacks,” said Raranold. “ I think it's time for us to leave the village”. “But where will we go, Raranold,” asked the mother. “ We could go to the city of Elistar and maybe there we can be safe,” said the father. “I don’t know what to do now Elizabeth”. “ We can leave tomorrow when we pack all our stuff and leave while we still have light, and maybe we can reach an inn,” said Elizabeth. “ But what about Aran, how will he handle this?” asked Raranold. “He might be upset about it but I’m sure he’ll love the big city and all its fancy buildings and all the new stuff he’ll like”. “ Plus we have a good amount of money to survive in the city”. “ Now then, we should be cooking dinner at Raranold”. “ Please pass me the mushrooms on your right, we're going to be making some skewers” Aran walked to his room quietly shocked by the fact that he will move from the village he grew up in. Aran looked out the window gazing at the village thinking about how he will never get used to the city. Aran suddenly saw something big and tall in the bushes. It was the same wendigo that was chasing him through the path. Aran quickly fell over in terror and when he got back up, the wendigo was suddenly gone in an instant. “ Oh lords,” said Aran. The wendigo rushed deep into the forests crossing through the dry trees and the murky puddles towards an abandoned camp. The abandoned camp was full of wendigos either resting or fighting each other for food. Near the big stump sat a tall wendigo with various skulls and aches full of bottles and ashes on his sides. The wendigo held a staff with a large skull. The wendigo went towards the large wendigo and shrieked “ Shouldn’t we attack the village now”. The tall Wendigo stood up and said “ We attack when the sun is dim”. They heard horses coming through the road with knights packed with weapons passing by them. The tall Wendigo screamed in the sky letting every Wendigo know that they would attack the village of Alestra.

2023.06.01 21:42 m_halo Finely single and dog free

This could have easily been a book but I’ll try to be vague.
It’s long overdue but I finely ended things with my gf. It’s been a two year long rollercoaster of misery, misplaced anger, humiliation and …dog semen.
I won’t elaborate too much on ups and downs of our relationship (that’s whole another story) but the final straw was her saying that if she had to choose saving human life or a dog she would have chosen a dog, thousand times over, even if it were my son’s.
Dog runs this house.
I should have known this the very minute I stepped inside my gf’s tiny two bed apartment. Filthy couch with throw covering up dog filth from when poor little pooper had “an accident”. Dog necessities everywhere, not one, not two but 5 dog beds including a crusty old pillow on which the shit beast relieves itself 🤢
This miserable creature was literally allowed to do whatever it please. Jump on furniture, on her bed, scratching itself on a wall leading to her apartment, leaving brown trail of dog filth. It would follow her around the apartment, always begging for treats. Whenever someone was in the kitchen, it would climb up on a couch backrest, nearly falling off or it and literally with its face in the cooking pots. Hair and dander everywhere and shitty asshole on where humans would later sit down. It’s a smartest and most intelligent dog on Earth (and handsomest one of course) only whenever it’s cleaning time and she starts vacuuming, it would flip a switch in his pigeon brain and it would start humping the Dyson. All humans have urges am I right?
My gf allowed this behaviour and let it finish itself off on a aforementioned crusty old pillow. That obnoxious creature would after walk around the apartment with his thing still dripping cum.
Going walkies was always stressful for me as she kept refusing to leash her dog. She would ger told off by passers by almost daily as her dog would always get in someone’s way on walk or bicycle paths or it would run up to other dogs even without the other owner’s consent. She would blatantly allow her dog to invade people’s personal space, piss and shit where “no dog toilet” signs were up, on communal lawns or next to children’s playground and would argue with anyone who would reprimand her. How dare you!
Going somewhere with a car wasn’t any different. This neurotic dog was allowed to roam freely around the car without harness. It would maybe sit on the back seat for 1.5 minutes before deciding it likes it more in the front, on a drivers knees. It’s illegal here to be holding a dog on drivers knees while driving l, at highway speeds especially, but law doesn’t apply to my dog, right? We’re special. Gangway! Fido behind the wheel.
Same goes to leash laws in and around forests, my doggo loves animals and wouldn’t hurt a fly. Why wouldn’t it be allowed to play with them? It’s favourite thing is digging up rodents holes. Bonus points for finding a nest and manage to kill few. Those damn instincts. Everyone is allowed to have a hobby.
You can’t own a dog if you’re not an animal lover and an activist yourself. And by animals you mean your dog, of course. After all you single handily saved this gods creature from an evil puppy mill. You’ve taken it from its birth mom to your tiny apartment to keep it for your amusement, ehm friendship. You’ve given it shelter, fed it human food (because of its special dietary needs and multiple food allergies). You’ve pumped it with meds because of its genetic disorders from birth. You’ve called it family member and everyone who says or thinks differently is a dog hater and you showed him the doors. You’ve kept pushing people visiting your house to worship it by petting and letting it lick them, it loves you and is happy to see you, see. You’ve corrected everyone who dared calling it a DOG.
Yeah nah, I’m good

Chapter 3 - Dreams and Vows
Northern Facility, Vanstead Dukedom of Augustein, Year 989
“You’ve never heard of the Warped Forest?”
Amara looked over from where her gaze had drifted over to Lily and Tom in the corner. The two were playing some kind of hand game involving a series of intricate motions that she still couldn’t make sense of. It still felt odd to see the two of them older now. She’d gotten used to them being the “babies” of the cell, but they’d shot up in height and didn’t look all that different from the rest of them now.
Edith was watching her expectantly, and Amara shrugged.
“No.”
How, though? Literally everyone in Vanstead knows about it!”
“Didn’t you say I was probably from Chaunton?”
The other girl sputtered, but quickly spoke again, never one to lose ground for long. “Well, we’re in Vanstead right now, you know? Once we get out of here, you’d better know about it!” She spoke the words confidently, like she spoke most things. Edith leaned forward. “My mo—I’ve heard tons of stories,” she corrected. Over the years, the girl had grown increasingly uncomfortable mentioning her family or anyone else she used to know.
Amara nodded, obligingly turning to face her and crossing her legs. “Tell me,” she said. Edith grinned triumphantly, and that alone was more than enough.
A few of the other kids paused and glanced over, including Lily and Tom, who stopped their game and scooted closer. Along with them came Susie and Ben, and eventually almost the entire cell was gathered around Edith, who sat up straighter. She began gesturing wildly with her arms as she always did when she told stories.
“Far up north in the Shifting Lands, where the air’s cold and there’s more trees than grasses, they say there’s a forest where the trees move.” She paused for dramatic effect.
“I thought they changed shapes,” Susie piped up.
“Shush, I was getting to that!” Edith huffed. “Up there, they say there’s no more form magic in the earth to keep them still, so they keep changing shapes. The branches’ll get longer and shorter, and the trunks twist around and bend as easily as water.” She mimicked the motion with her body. In her thin, malnourished state, her flailing arms brought back memories of James. Amara swallowed and kept listening.
“But the forest doesn’t just stay there,” Edith said dramatically. She leaned closer, and her audience obligingly leaned forward as well. “Every year it moves further and further south, and everywhere the trees go, that place also ends up, well, like that!” The girl fumbled for words, but pressed onward. “Not just that, but they say Aberrations live deep in the forest. They hide away in the trees, and whenever the forest gets close to a town, the Aberrations jump out!”
Edith swung her arms up like she was about to pounce, and a few of the kids gasped. Most of the ones who did so were the newer arrivals, people who hadn’t spent a year in the facility yet. After that point, their reactions usually dulled to some extent.
Edith looked around expectantly, and after a few seconds, they started clapping in awkward, erratic bursts, unused to the gesture. It seemed to be enough for the girl, who looked pleased with her story’s reception.
“Why’s it keep moving south?” one of the girls asked. She was one of the youngest in their cell. She didn’t speak much, but Amara often caught her singing to herself at night and after sessions. She always did it softly, mostly to herself, but Amara found herself wishing the girl would be louder. She had a pretty voice.
Edith frowned, and her eyes darted over to Amara for help. Amara just shrugged. She certainly didn’t know. Edith rolled her eyes and launched into an impressively convoluted string of explanations that grew increasingly more wild the longer she went on. Amara listened patiently, enjoying the tale despite its absurdity.
Later that night, while the rest of the kids slept, Edith sat down near Amara, who raised an eyebrow at her.
“So, the forest.”
Edith hit her good naturedly, making sure to focus the blow on Amara’s shoulder and not her increasingly scarred arms. “Shush. It’s cool, okay?”
Amara hummed. “It sounds scary.”
“Well, maybe a little, but I still want to see it.”
Amara nodded in understanding. “Yeah, I think I do too,” she said after a moment of thought. Through Edith’s tales, she’d learned about a string of different places, all of which sounded equal parts terrifying and beautiful. Just last week, Edith had spoken about the great storms of Aeramire, where excessive energy magic ore mining had resulted in extreme and unstable weather patterns. The way the other girl had described them had made them seem otherworldly and awe inspiring.
Sometimes, a small part of Amara resented Edith for telling these stories and filling her head with these images that she knew deep down she would never get to see. But then Edith would talk about the two of them traveling around the world together and going to see all those sights with such assuredness that she forgave her immediately.
Amara closed her eyes and allowed sleep to overtake her. She didn’t dream often, but that night, she dreamed of swirling branches and distorted trees, sharp figures against a vast, unending sky.

Susie died. Edith took it harder than Amara had expected, but the two of them had always been closer than Amara ever was with the girl. The next two nights, instead of sleeping near Amara like she usually did, she lay down on Susie’s old spot and stared up at the ceiling for hours. Amara didn’t know if she actually fell asleep those nights; she didn’t see her shut her eyes before her own weariness overtook her.
There hadn’t been a death in a long time, Amara realized. The last one was over a year ago. A part of her had assumed that those of them left in the cell were the “successes,” that they at least wouldn’t have to worry about losing another face among them, and she could tell that the others had thought the same, too. Amara absentmindedly squeezed her arm and stared at Susie’s old spot. She allowed numbness to overtake the simmering cold feeling in her gut.
She thought about the girl’s warm, bright hair. The cell was significantly more colorless without it.

“How long do you think they’ll keep us here?” Edith asked one day. Amara frowned at her, rolling over and bumping into the girl in the process. She tried to keep quiet, aware of the slumbering forms surrounding them.
“Go to sleep,” Amara whispered to her instead. She was about to shift and roll over again, but before she could, Edith’s hand shot out, stopping her.
“The Raymoths were overthrown.”
Edith’s eyes burned fiercely, their usual sparkle now so sharp they were almost painful to look at. Her hands shook slightly with rage. Amara swallowed. She’d never seen Edith look like that before. She sat up a little.
“…Are you sure?”
It was all she could think of to say. Her own mind reeled, trying to digest the information. For as long as she could remember, she’d always associated “Raymoths” with “the Sovereign” and “Sovereign” with those introductory words the magicians had said all those years ago: that the Sovereign had ordered for the experiments to occur. It was simply a fact of their existence that everyone in the cell knew of, but none had ever been able to do anything about it. Even Edith had, at most, speculated for a few days about the reason for the experiments before she, too, became tired of the subject and its lack of answers.
The Raymoths were overthrown? That meant there was a new Sovereign, which meant—
“I heard the guards talking about it.” Edith interrupted her thoughts, the other girl’s voice low. She clenched her fist. “The Sovereign’s been different for three years.”
Amara shook her head. “That can’t be. The experiments—”
“—are still going on.” Edith let out a frustrated breath. “The magicians must’ve kept doing them on their own.” She tugged at her hair, biting her lip so hard that Amara was worried it would start bleeding.
“Maybe the new Sovereign doesn’t know,” Amara said half-heartedly, both for Edith’s and her own sake. In her mind, all that rang out was, You’ll be here forever. The cold feeling boiled so intensely she was worried it would overflow. But she couldn’t let it, not here in the cell, surrounded by everyone else.
Even though she’d always told herself that she’d accepted her fate, a small part of her might have always hoped, she realized. But if the old Sovereign, the one who had ordered the experiments, was dead and they were still happening, then that was undeniable proof to her that nothing would ever stop them. They would die in the facility, and the rest of the world would probably never even know that they existed. The latter, Amara realized, was somehow an even more terrifying thought than the first.
Edith started to get up. “I’m gonna ask them,” she said, eyes hard. Amara jerked her head up in alarm.
“Are you crazy?” she hissed.
“I need answers,” Edith said. Amara reached up and grabbed her, preventing her from standing.
“Go back to sleep,” she said. She paused to take a second and glance around, worried that she’d woken the others, but if she had then they were good at pretending to be asleep. Amara turned back to Edith, pulling on her sleeve with more urgency. “What’s asking them gonna do? Even if they answer you, we’re still stuck here.” Edith flinched, but she quickly recovered, the flame in her eyes flaring.
“They can’t keep us here forever. We’re not just scared little kids anymore!”
“Yeah, which means they’ll get rid of us if they have to!”
The older they got, the more the magicians treated them with wariness. They were reaching an age where they were harder to control, and Amara was very aware that they weren’t the only “successes” in the facility. They weren’t valuable enough to risk keeping around if the magicians ever thought they were too much to handle.
Edith grit her teeth, swallowing, and Amara could see the girl shaking as she visibly tried to calm herself. She yanked her arm away and turned around, laying her head down with her back facing Amara and resolutely refusing to look at her.
Amara tried to tap her shoulder a few times over the night, calling out her name, but Edith continued to ignore her. Finally, Amara gave up and turned away as well, closing her eyes and waiting for sleep to take over. This was fine, she told herself, forcing her mind to that floaty place where everything was muted and there was no danger of that cold feeling rising. She’d rather Edith be mad at her than dead.
