As a person who works in tech, companies do generally care if they get many of the same complaint and they do tend to prioritize them.

Hey lads,made the foolish mistake of staying in Japan long-term via the German Working Holiday (Designated Activities) visa. Of course, I settled in and eventually managed to land a job as a software engineer in a Japanese management company managing multiple hotel companies.
Slowly my 12-month visa came to an end and I had to apply for a visa. Luckily my company really wants to keep me employed as I run all the IT, website, system admin, and booking software (the old guy is quitting, I was supposed to take over). They offered to sponsor my work visa, I was very thrilled. Their office person finished all the documents necessary for me to apply for the Specified Skill Visa (software engineer).
For whatever reason they apparently misunderstood that I had a community college degree. I do not, I only have a general vocational school degree. I only found out after one and a half months of waiting for immigration to invite me to an interview. In that interview, Immigartion told me: "Yeah not gonna happen, 10 years experience or university degree". Multiple times I have asked the immigration officer if there are any other options (had an interpreter with me to help me as I only have N5) only for him to look at me and tell me that I should rather just marry someone in Japan.
Defeated and heartbroken I left the interview room, getting my residence card with a hole punched into it handed to me after they made me sign a document stating that I will leave Japan within 31 days.
Not only have I lost my job indirectly due to my visa status being revoked, health insurance revoked, and having to mentally prepare to leave my friends and surroundings when an hour before I thought of how lucky I am that I finally have a stable job.
I do not want to whine too much about it as I can't change it, I just need to find solutions, help, or advice right now. What should I do? How should I proceed? Here is how things are right now:
From my research, I have a couple of options now:(1) Specified skilled worker 1: This would mean I have to go back to Germany as the tests I have to take requires N4 (I need to study more, which will take a couple of months) and the test to actually be able to apply to the visa is only held a couple of times a year. After a successful application, I can work in the hotel industry.
(2) Student Visa: Enroll in a language school, and get a student visa. Will take at least 8 months from now too so I would also have to go back to Germany and if I get it, I can only work part-time in that company which is not really what I would want to do. (Plus a grand a month for language school).
(3) Highly skilled work visa: Re-apply for the same visa category. This sounds like the only and best solution if I want to keep my life and job in Japan. I would somehow have to strengthen my application as much as possible to even have a slim chance of being considered. Contact lawyers etc too.
Of all those options, Option (3) is the one I'm striving for right now. I know it might sound unrealistic but there have been special cases of people obtaining said visa even tho they clearly missed the requirements. My question is now: What documents should I gather to have a higher chance when applying? Has anyone reading this gone through the same process already?
Thanks for reading this, I greatly appreciate any help or advice I can get as I now have 30 days left to prepare.

Hi - new user, longtime lurker and thank you all - I’ve learned so much already from this community.
Please no sharing my story anywhere, posting via phone so sorry about the formatting, length, etc.
A little background: I’m a FTM, due August and my baby shower was this past weekend. My in laws live 10+ hours away so when they come to stay, they normally drive (Midwesterners get it) and stay with us for about a week (they left this AM). I generally have a good relationship with both MIL and FIL, but there are always at least mild BEC moments with MIL during every visit, so make of that what you will. They are extremely helpful with house projects and very generous people, which I love about them. But having them around for extended periods of time stresses me out even when not pregnant. DH intervenes when I am clearly ready for a break from them and did that several times during this trip too.
However, to say that this week was the most stressed out I’ve been while pregnant is a massive understatement.
We started their stay off with dinner at our house about an hour after their arrival where it was brought up several times that, “OUR plan is to come in September,” (BB is due at the end of August). We had discussed previously that we would let them know when we’re ready for visitors, but most likely it would be in October, giving me about 4 weeks PP, as well as ensuring that DH would be still on paternity leave. They would stay with my mom who lives locally instead of us hosting them (they have no problem with this). I reiterated that I’d like time to establish breastfeeding as well as stop passing blood clots (used that term verbatim - MIL is a retired nurse and idgaf). I changed the subject and offered to show them the nursery as a way to diffuse the conversation. She literally said, (bkr23) you’re killing me with this!” as a response and this would not be the only time.
Pretty much every day during their week here, visiting PP was brought up. MIL and I went to do some errands together while DH and FIL finished up a house project together and she brought up the timeline AGAIN. Thankfully she is extremely tangential and was fairly easy to redirect, but how many times must we have the same conversation? She does with with my SIL (DH’s brother’s wife) where she has to put her two cents in with literally everything and will ask and ask until you finally break and give her what she wants. Both MIL and FIL are very involved with their two other grandchildren as they live close to BIL and SIL, but I know they have also had struggles with her constant overstepping with their kids.
DH and I had a mild fight after I recounted MIL’s behavior Friday with my cousin’s 6 week old - reaching out without asking to burp her while cousin attempted to show me a cloth diaper demonstration, basically verifying my feelings that she will be demanding and overbearing with me and BB when he comes. Cousin was understanding but clearly uncomfortable- I mouthed to her if she wanted me to intervene and she shook her head. I was irate. (Cousin and I just talked this AM and she told me that at a different time, MIL tried to take the baby out of her carrier while her mom was soothing her as they were getting ready to leave and cousin was in the bathroom. I just can’t.)
DH did not take the information well but seemed to be upset with me being right too? I later asked him to talk to FIL to get MIL to cool her jets and reiterate AGAIN that we will let them know when we are comfortable having visitors (after they leave so it’s not awkward for the rest of the trip). DH somehow missed that part and had the conversation yesterday AM where FIL told him that MIL is feeling like I’m playing favorites with my family since my mom will help the second week BB is here. He said they were planning on coming in September, staying one night with my mom and meet the baby for an hour and go on vacation to Maine afterwards. Keep in mind they had asked NO ONE if this plan was okay with us/my mom. DH said he would ask me how I felt about it and get back to them. I told DH that they were backpedaling by posing it as a question when it had already been demanded every day for the whole week (sans details of course) because we were pushing back. So for me it was an automatic no- even though I would have said yes initially if it had been proposed as an honest question, but it wasn’t. I completely broke down and told him to handle his family and I am no longer discussing this with anyone. I am so beyond done. I know this isn’t over, but if I hear one more word I will truly implode like a dying star.

I want to run more Pathfinder 2e, this time in-person, in London, between mid-June and mid-September. If we all get on it could continue after that, but it would have to be online because I'll be moving out of London again for the next academic year.
I (27NB) have multiple years of experience running Pathfinder 2e, and am happy to introduce new people to the system. It is required that you be LGBT+ friendly and generally not a bigot.
Timewise, ~it's complicated~ because I'm not particularly free in the evenings; I would prefer that we be gaming in the afternoon, on a Wednesday. As for location, the closer to NW the better.

Storing non 100% colonised bags in the fridge (plus feedback)
I have a general question on storing semi colonised bags in the fridge.
I started 6 bags in mid April but due to issues with poor GE they stalled heavily. All part of the learning curve as a first timer, and taken on board. That said it has taken a long time!
I eventually decided to corner cut 4 bags later under as sterile as possible conditions at the end of May and they are coming along now with all the bags solid (no loose rice anymore).
All the loose grains that existed I managed to squeeze to the bottom window so I could track progress (hence the lack of a huge white lumps in most of them) Really hoping there isn't any contam within but a problem for a other day.
The issue I have is I will be leaving the country in 4 days for over a month, coming back for 4-5 weeks and then leaving again for another 2 weeks.
I haven't managed to find any concrete answer so my questions are:
1) could I store non 100% bags in the fridge (ziplocked away separately within the packages, upright to prevent liquid contam) and...
2) Would there be any issues with contam growing whilst I am away due to the bags not being that ideal thick white block before sending?
3) is that 4 week I am back in my country reasonable to start growing or would it be best to just leave them until I am not travelling at all?
4) Do the 4 bags (marked with a red dot in the picture) seem okay? They have been broken and shaken 10 days ago, however Its these ones Im struggling most with. I am a little worried they may be buggered.
My camera seems to really highlight the yellow in the bags, in reality they are not like that.
Thank you for any help, the community has been extremely useful throughout this, it's been a slow but exciting process!

The dopamine-increasing effects of opioids lead to feelings of motivation, excitement, positive anticipation, and ambition. The opioidergic effects lead us to feelings of safety and social connection
Dopamine is the molecule of the SEEKING system; it energizes us to pursue. Pleasurably high levels of dopamine generally make us feel like we have something that is worthwhile to seek out while also making us feel like we have enough resources to be successful in our seeking. Excess dopamine can lead to states of mania, hypomania, and relentless craving and pursuit
Consistent use of opioids leads to downregulation of dopamine receptors, which leads to a lack of motivation upon cessation of use. Cessation of opioid use can also lead to anhedonia, or a lack of the feelings of pleasurable anticipatory excitement and sustained interest in activities that we engage in. The lack of excitement and inability to sustain interest means we no longer associate pleasure with activities that we used to enjoy
Dopamine is responsible for our curiosity and our drive to seek and explore; low dopamine levels make us feel unmotivated and uninterested. It is worthwhile to note that even a single use of opioids can cause a rebound/hangover effect that leads to similar feelings of demotivation and emotional instability
Endorphins (endogenous morphine) are painkillers that we produce naturally. We share these molecules and the related opioidergic systems with other animals and know that they are related to social connection. For example, when juvenile birds are separated from their mothers, their cries of separation distress are diminished with low doses of morphine (Panksepp, 2012)
The opioid system is also implicated in the human/animal states of grief and panic. Juvenile socially dependent animals have powerful emotional systems to solicit nurturance. They exhibit intense crying when lost, alerting caretakers to attend to their offspring. The grief and panic related behaviors are inhibited by opioids, which are one of the major social-attachment, socialbonding chemistries of the mammalian brain.
Opioids are foundational for feelings of safety and secure attachment. The feelings of deep sadness, unabating loneliness, and deep-seated feelings of doom and various levels of panic actually reflect the spontaneous loss of feelings of security. This feeling of sudden separation from that which makes us feel warm and safe can also be called acute separation-distress (Panksepp, 2010).
The grief/panic circuits are chronically aroused during human grief, sadness, and social isolation. These feelings accompany and are marked by low brain opioid activity. This explains why so many of us feel naked, empty, and alone without the artificial social connection hack that is caused by opioid use
To;dr: opioids can cause negative, destabilizing effects on the dopamine-driven seeking system and the opioidergic grief/panic system that underlies feelings of social disconnectedness.
Hence, those that are trying to bounce back from opioid use or control their use more carefully should be aware that there are two separate and foundational emotional systems that are dysregulated by opioids. We can address the demotivating and anhedonic effects of lower dopamine in various ways, but we should not overlook the importance of robust social connection to re-stabilize the opioid system

I recently read House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, and it reinvigorated my love of reading in general. For the past ten or so years I'd just occasionally re-read one of Pratchett's Discworld books. I love almost all of them, but one of my friends pointed out in passing that they were the only books he'd seen me read and it made me realize I could barely remember having read anything else. I don't know why I got in this rut of re-reading them.
Prior to that I'd read a whole bunch of stuff during my high school years but that's not really important here. I've re-read the Hitchhiker series more than enough times over the course of high school. I'd love more stuff like House of Leaves, or at least stuff that has some of the same feeling. I've read S. so far, and I'm awaiting delivery of Bats of the Republic and the Dictionary of the Khazars. Looking at reviews of other books in what I've learned is called the genre of "ergodic literature", they don't sound like things I'd be terribly into but I'm going to try them anyway.
Based on this rambling explanation, would anyone possibly have some other recommendations?

It was 2 AM. I realized that my sleep was over when someone was already the third time calling me on my phone. Sleepy, I got up, rubbed my eyes, and saw, that my friend "Michael" was calling me. Understandably, I was angry. But I decided, because it was my friend that I need to pick up the phone As I picked up, he said this:
"Ayo, so I have a problem... My car stalled near the forest on the outskirts of the city.. can you pick me up, please. I'll send the coordinates." I swear, in his voice, something was.. a little bit strange. I thought it was because of stress that his car was stalled.. actually, how did he get there? I looked at my phone, as he sent the coordinates. It was 70km away from the city. Before I even asked something he got offline and didn't answer the calls. Even though it was a long way there, I decided to drive there. My worst error.
I put on the jacket, opened the front door of my house, passed the garden, closed the door, and sat in my Chevrolet. As I started the car, I saw that nobody was driving that night time. After I left the city I saw a black figure, that quickly disappeared into the forest. As I came closer, I saw my friend's old BMW. I opened the doors of my Chevrolet and knocked on Michael's car's left window. I saw him, sitting in his car. The first time he ignored me and then turned to me. He silently left his car, slowly coming to me. As I saw, his car was in minimum damage from the accident. He didn't even try to start it when I drive. As he came to me, he said "thanks" and sat in my car. He didn't answer most questions, and when I asked about how he got there he answered "I was going to my grandma." Perhaps he was sleepy... As I started the car, we move forward but the road was the same even though we moved. Then I saw this - I saw another BMW, the same one that my friend has. As I looked into Michael's eyes, I left the car and I came to the same BMW car. This BMW was extremely damaged, and I saw the body of Michael...
Then who is the one I picked up? I was feared to turn around and even got paralyzed because of that situation. As I turn around I saw Michael standing near my car. In a matter of seconds, his skin starts to get off like a costume. I stand paralyzed for some seconds but when his skin lay on the road, I saw the true one - tall, like my friend's body, sharp claws and jar with long sharp teeth. His eyes were pure white and he ran at me, soonly after he would scream that my ears were hurt. I run and hide behind Michael's BMW. It was all dark, only the headlamp of my car lighted the bumper of the BMW. Then I heard noises behind me. As I turned, the monster was already 10m back from me. As I looked into his eyes he ran at me. I had no other choices as I run forward, soonly after hopping into my car and trying to start it. I lost track of the monster and turned off the headlights and light in the car and hide in the back seats. Soonly after, my eyes used to darkness and I saw the monster, standing near my car. Then, I saw Mercedes driving near the road as its doors would open. As the men left, Monster attacked the men, ripping his internal organs on the road. as the blood would spill everywhere. I used this to run away. I started my car successfully, and at full speed, I'd drive on the road, so only after losing track of the monster. So only after, I would drive into a village... I was surprised, and my calmness ended when I looked back. The monster was already in the back of my car. Then the car stalled. On the windows of the car, I would see shadows. Then, the monster broke the frontal window and plunged his claws into my shoulder. I shouted, as my warm blood would be spilled everywhere. I already thought that my life was over, but then I would see the sunrise.
As the sun set, everything disappeared. I fell on the road, exhausted and having no powers whatsoever. I was happy, that monster didn't rip my organs, but soonly, I saw a car. Then, I don't remember anything, but I woke up at the hospital, with the bandage on my shoulder. I didn't say a word. Then, I woke up and the doctors told me that the operation is done.

In another timeline, Otto Octavius and the Parkers had a bit of a family history together. Otto was in love with May in their youth, but lost her to Ben. Otto was disheartened, naturally, but found a bit of solace in bonding with their young nephew, Peter Parker. It was a… needed distraction from being a nebbish scientist at Oscorp.
After Otto’s transformation into Doctor Octopus, mentor and mentee clashed multiple times over the years, but while Otto’s tentacles were strong, the man himself was not. A final clash broke his body beyond repair, and Peter struggled to find a way to fix him.
Some time later, Miles Warren, aka the Jackal, offered Doc Ock a quick fix for his dying body. Otto suspected ulterior motives, but grudgingly accepted due to his rapidly-approaching mortality. So Miles injected him with the serum…
And just like that, Otto Octavius was transformed into Peter Parker.
See, Peter and Gwen were still very much an item by the time Miles devolved into the Jackal, so Miles wanted to switch places with Peter using a transformation serum. The test run on Otto showed it was only partially successful, but serviceable enough to repair his wounds and make him stronger than ever.
Otto had some emotional turbulence after being transformed, as not only did he partially gain Peter’s memories, but also the knowledge that he’d been Spider-Man for some time now. And he had every intention of helping him through his situation. And the Jackal was getting ready to kill him. Whatever hatred he had for Spider-Man was eventually overcome by his love for Peter, at least to the point he didn’t want him dead.
However, by the time he made up his mind and helped Spider-Man stop the Jackal, Aunt May had died. A disguised Miles couldn’t fool her completely, so he killed her in a panic. Otto nearly killed Miles in a fit of rage and grief, but Peter, just as aggrieved, managed to pull him out of it.
After May’s funeral, Otto doesn’t quite know what to do, save for one thing. Just as he taught Peter how to be a scientist, he wants Peter to teach him how to be Spider-Man. Otto grasps everything easily, except for how to be friendly, as he’s got too much baggage to develop a glib tongue.
In the end, he’s not the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, but the Superior Spider-Man. He’s more effective at preventing crime, but he’s a bit colder and darker compared to the OG. Peter occasionally has to keep Otto from sinking too deep, like that time he wanted to set up a Spider-Drone surveillance system.
And yes, everyone can tell which Spider-Man they’re dealing with. Red and blue, jokester; red and black, insufferable genius. It’s that simple.

Hi everyone, i’m trying to make a plan to be financially in a good place in 5 years to be on the path to buying a house, being financially stable and generally not have to worry.
Currently i’m at Uni studying law and have a part time job where most of the money I can save making about £1000 a month from 20 hour work weeks and saving about £600-800.
My current plan is to get a credit card to build credit, unfortunately all major banks at this point won’t let me take a credit card out with them and i’m going to have to take a credit card out with a high APR. The plan with this is to use it for things like food shops, small purchases and pay it back every month to build up my credit score over 5 years. (this is based on my understanding of credit cards and could be the wrong idea of how to build it so correct me if i’m wrong)
My next idea is to invest in to an index fund of maybe £100-£300 a month, with the rest of my money in savings in case of emergency and to have big purchases.
Past that i’m not really sure what else to do than increase my income by working more in summer when not at university.
Any other suggestions or improvements would be greatly appreciated :)

I 26f have a neighbour approx. 60m with a bedridden wife. We live in London so naturally had never shared more than a silent nod in one another’s direction when we pass in the street. That is, until he knocked on my door a few years ago. He said he could smell the food I was cooking and asked if he could have some. From the brief interaction with him I could tell he didn’t have all his mental faculties so I thought f it why not and dished he and his wife up a portion. Boy did I open Pandora’s box.
Since then he’s knocked on my door at least once a week for a meal, requests to fix things, use something or contact someone on his behalf. For context, I find socialising mentally draining. I’m able to soldier through it for a day, but when I get home I just want to shut the world out and enjoy my own company. So while I’ve entertained him over the years, I haven’t enjoyed it. At all.
I’ve resorted to not really using my front or back garden incase he invites himself over (a few weeks after his aunt passed he gatecrashed a bbq I was hosting for my mum’s bday where he introduced himself to each guest with “hi I’m … I lost my aunt”). Once I saw him wanking in his garden but ngl that tidbit isn’t integral to the story. I dread hearing the doorbell because I know regardless of how many times I try to politely shut down convo, I’ll be engaged for at least 20 mins. I can’t even sit in my front room with the curtains open incase he sees me because he rings incessantly until I answer.
Recently the council moved his wife into a care home and I know it’s been hard on him because his visits have increased to 3/4 times a week. He came over yesterday with a list of things he needs done. I know he means no harm but at this point I’m just drained. I suggested a local food bank and told him to get in contact with his social worker (for the millionth time), but he never does and I don’t see why I have to do all the things my taxes are already paying for him to get free access to.
Anyway, I made him dinner but politely told him this would be the last time I could help him out. I had a friend on the phone at the time who said I was an ah because I’m all he’s got and he’s not mentally well enough to understand social boundaries so it’s a dick move to cut him off. Honestly I wish I was the type of person who loves socialising and was able to help him out without it feeling like I’m carrying dead weight, but after 3 years I just don’t have anything left to give. THE compulsive gambler sub consciously wants to lose his shirt, of course, along with everything else he owns, and so he again and again puts down the rent money on the Montreal Expos or 80‐to‐1 2‐year‐old maiden fillies wear ing blinkers and bandaged forelegs. And if he's nothing else, Walter Matthau, the 50‐year‐old stage and movie actor, is a compulsive gambler. A few years ago, for instance, while in Florida to film episodes of a TV series called “Tallahassee 7000,” Matthau breath‐takingly managed in a mere two weeks to drop no less than $183,000. He lost the money, moreover, not by backing crippled nags at Hialeah but mainly instead by betting on the outcome of spring training baseball games, a way of tossing bundles of money out the window that should surely that year have won him the Nobel Prize for masochism.
Since dropping that $183,000, sum that eventually took, him six years to pay off to his increa ingly impatient Mafia ‐ connected book maker, Matthau has cut down con siderably on the amounts that he bets, especially when he goes to race tracks, and on a good day at Holly wood Park he can now come happily home having lost only $400 or $580.
Still, he continues casually to bet thousand dollars or so on things like N.B.A. play‐off games or whether or not a friend can name the capital of Albania, and so remains a prime example of the evils of gambling to all those New Yorkers who are thinking of taking a first‐time fling at the ponies because of an easy access these days to offtrack betting windows in Grand Central Station and elsewhere. “I think that off‐track betting is great for New York,” dryly remarked Matthau during a recent three‐day visit to the city from his home in California. “I mean, it's so democratic—if they keep up off‐track betting long enough, every body in town will be on welfare.”
Of course, though he has the mo rose, hangdog look of a chronic loser, Matthas is scarcely a loser in everything he gets mixed up in. Far from it, as a matter of fact. For example, when signing contracts for his last several movies he chose to gamble on accepting a percentage of the profits in lieu of a salary, and at least one of these gambles has al ready handsomely paid off—his per centage of “Cactus Flower,” a film he made a couple of years ago with Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn, has so far amounted, to more than a million dollars. And he's also on the way to making another million or so as his share of the profits from each of his two most recent pictures—“A New Leaf,” a wacky comedy in which he is co‐starred with Elaine May, and “Plaza Suite,” the film version of Neil Simon's exceedingly successful Broadway play. So, unlike almost every other compulsive gamb er in the country, Matthau is nowadays just about literally rolling in money. Besides, pleased with the way that his career is going, with his marriage, with his three children, and with his seaside home in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Matthau is even happy, an emotion not normally associated with the compulsive gambler.
HOW does a compulsive gambler get to be one? The story of Matthau's life is perhaps an object lesson to all of those who have lately been spend ing their lunch hours in Grand Cen tral Station to wait in line for the dubious privilege of giving away their money to Howard Samuels and his Off track Betting Corporation. In any event, Matthau was born on the lower East Side of Manhattan on Oct. 1, 1920, the son of an impoverished Russian‐Jewish immigrant from Kiev, in the Ukraine, and of a Lithuanian born Jewish mother.
When Matthau was 3 years old, and his older brother, Henry, was 5, his father, a worker at such odd jobs as serving subpoenas for law firms, lit out for parts unknown, leaving him and his brother to be raised by their mother, Rose, who managed to scrape a marginal living for herself and her sons by working as a sewing machine operator in garment district sweatshops. In 1935, when Matthau was 15 years old, he learned of his father's death in Bellevue Hospital. His mother is still living, and—sup ported in the grand manner by her sons (Matthau's brother lives now on Long Island and is a jobber of surplus Army‐Navy goods)—divides her time these days between a penthouse on West End Avenue and a condo in Miami Beach.
During his childhood, Matthau, his brother and his mother lived in succession of cold‐water tenement apartments in the Ukrainian area of the Lower East Side, that is, around East Fifth Street near Second Av enue, being forced to vacate each apartment after only a few months because they'd got so hopelessly far behind in the rent that their land lord would have them evicted. Years later, when Matthau briefly sublet Paul Newman's house in Hollywood for $3,700 per month, he recalled with a shake of his head that $3,700 was more money than the Matthau family had spent on rent during 20 years on the Lower East Side. Mat thau, however, hasn't the slightest nostalgia these days for his poverty ridden childhood. “It was a night mare—a dreadful, horrible, stinking nightmare,” he grimly remembers.
On the Lower East Side, Matthau recalls, the highest ambition of most of his class ates was some day to become a salesman for a garment district dress house, for he himself secretly had far more exalted am bitions — by the age of 8, a day dreamer, a loner, a reader of Shake speare, he'd already determined to become a famous writer and actor. Encouraged by a teacher who ad mired his speaking voice, Matthau appeared in a number of school plays and also regularly recited poetry in school assemblies. On East Fifth Street, anyone who evinced an interest in poetry was thought by his classmates to be seriously lacking in machismo, and Matthau often found himself getting beaten up at recess by schoolyard bullies. So, already feet tall by the age of 10 (he weighed only 90 pounds, however, and, says Matthau, who is today 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds; “when I drank cherry soda, I looked like thermometer”), he put himself through a regimen of muscle‐building until “I had Popeyelike bumps on my skinny arms and could beat up any body who made snide remarks about my poetry reading.”
When Matthau was 11 years old, in fact, one of those whom he alleges to have beaten up in the schoolyard was none other than Rocky Graziano, who grew up, of course, to become the middleweight boxing champion of the world. Of Matthau's claim to having beaten up Graziano, one can unequivocally make the following statement: The story either is or is not true.
IN any event, along with being a compulsive gambler, Matthau is also something of a compulsive stretcher of the truth. Or, to put it perhaps a bit more tactfully, a compulsive weaver of fiction when it comes to talking about his past. For example, bored with repeating the story of his life over and over again to interview ers, Matthau has on more than one occasion told newspapermen and magazine writers that his father was a defrocked Russian Orthodox priest who'd had to flee for his life from Czarist Kiev in 1906 because he'd been preaching sermons in support of Pope Pius X. And this story, told by Matthau to interviewers with an absolutely straight face, has appeared several times as the God's truth in such usually accurate publications as Time and Current Biography.
NOT long ago, too, when Matthau was in New York for a round of newspaper, maga zine, radio and TV interviews to promote “Plaza Suite,” chanced to be in earshot when he told a story to Neil Simon that he'd heard the night be fore from Gene Saks, the director, about a somewhat aging and hard ‐ of hearing actor who'd had trouble re membering his lines in a play last winter at the Palm Beach Playhouse in Florida. So, as Matthau told the story to Si mon, a prompter, unseen by the audience, was hidden in a hole cut into the front of the stage and instructed to call out only key words to the actor when a line was for gotten. “Drastic,” whispered the prompter when the actor went up in his lines on the opening night of the play. From the hard ‐ of ‐ hearing actor, no response. “Drastic,” repeated the prompter in a somewhat louder voice. Again, no response. “Drastic,” the prompter now all but shouted. Still no response, upon which a man in the second row of the orchestra stood up and yelled “Dastic!” The actor heard him, smiled, remem bered his line, and the play went on.
As show‐biz stories go, not bad. Not so great, either. The following evening, however, happened to be on hand when Matthau was being inter viewed by David Frost on Frost's TV talk show and was asked, “What was your most embarrassing moment in the theater?” And, without batting an eyelash, Matthau pro ceeded to tell the “drastic” story as though it was some thing that had happened to him years ago on Broadway.
He concocts personal anec dotes that aren't true, Mat thau later somewhat abashedly told me, because they liven up otherwise boring inter views and make his past seem more colorful than it really was. “Like saying that my father was a Catholic priest — I figure that makes me more interesting than just another Jewish actor who had a pair of Jewish parents,” Matthau explained to me with a grin. “Jewish and Catholic— if I can just work a Protestant into my background, I'm all set.”

Like the title says I'm looking for an alternative to the maxscent craw's for my black and blue fleck bitsy jigs. One of my favorite lures to throw and never fails to deliver on the toughest days. The issue I'm having is all the Walmarts near me only carry lil generals and flat worms but nothing else and the nearest bass pro or sporting goods store is an hour away. They are also super pricey and loose arms pretty quickly.
Any suggestions on some black and blue fleck smaller sized craw trailers that are worth the money? I can order online if I can't find them near me.

Hey Guys, so you might remember my post about starting to collect Yu-Gi-Oh cards. A lot of you gave me great advice. I am still planning on buying the 25 anniversary box but I already started to watch some anime and I started to play Master Dual.
So far its pretty fun, i did some tutorials, got some cards and then I tried some casual games but man I got absolutely wrecked. There is so much to learn.

Do you guys maybe have some advice on one or 2 decent decks which I can try to craft and master? Or maybe some general advice on the game, like what to spend your currency on and all that? Thankyou! So far its been a blast starting this hobby and playing the game also makes me learn more about the cards and collecting them is then also more fun!

Relationship perspective and advice ask
Hey team - so we are a stag/fox and married
We started the stag lifestyle over a year ago (it’s like cuck without the degradation - I like to watch and hear about my hubby getting with others)
Recently, my fox (husband who plays with others for my pleasure and his pleasure) has started to sort of like, fall for one of our bucks (playmates)
And he’s been totally honest with me about it - we had a convo yesterday about what sort of defines stag for us vs poly or non monogamy leaning which we haven’t been yet - we’ve been coloring inside the lines up until now
The general rule we’ve come up with is that doing things with him that are approved are totally fine and within the yummy part of our dynamic - yummy for all is the golden rule
But I don’t find their sort of more “real world” romance yummy to me - I also don’t find some of the acts they’ve started to want to do in bed yummy either
So we kinda came up with some boundaries of what’s okay - but I’m still feeling queezy about it and don’t want to play the fool
If he does want to be romantic (saying the l word and spending more time alone etc…) and wants to have their own sexual dynamic that’s sort of separate from me - I respect it, but that’s more just for him (his and his playmates partners yummy) and in that scenario I would want to also be free to play and find someone too
All this to say that no matter what direction we go, we’ve agreed to keep us at the center of our lives and our relationship as the main course always
But yeah - I can’t shake that I sort of feel he’s already kinda crossed the line a bit that I set up front and he’s also hesitant to go into poly but he wants poly stuff with this buck - it’s a bit much to process
So we are on the cusp of change - any advice?

Hi!! I just recently finished my rotations (will take my exam hopefully early July) and my clinical site offered me a position as a clinical dietitian (60% inpatient and 40% outpatient), I really enjoyed working with the RDs there but it's an hour commute and not the pay I was hoping for to offset the costs that come with the long commute (gas, mileage on car, etc). I'm also going through second round of interviews at a closer hospital that may allow me to gain more experience in areas that I'm interested in pursing later in my career (pediatrics, etc) (which my rotation site did not have). I don't know what the starting pay is at the closer hospital and haven't been offered the job yet of course, but would appreciate any advice on what is best to consider when taking a first RD job in clinical? Pay is a factor, but also thinking about what will allow me to gain experience to grow. Any advice is appreciated!!

2023.06.06 19:25 SweetStrawberry4U How to deal with BS-detector interviewers despite misinterpretations ?

I've been working as an Android Engineer for well over 12 years now, with an overall experience of 19 years, and I still can't.
Some anecdotes here, although two entirely different interviews and two entirely different interviewers.
Interview-1
  1. What can you do to improve User experience on the main-page / home-page or dashboard, whatever you might want to call it, in an app ? Particularly in places where the network connectivity is weak, say free wifi in a coffee-shop. When there's a lot of people connected to the same wifi and it slows-down significantly, we still want smooth and quick user-experience in our app. ( of course, this was a retail client, but then, such a broad question by an experienced interviewer who introduced himself as an Architect would be business-domain specific or cross-business generality ? )
My Answer was somewhat in these lines - Fetching all the data at once, which will certainly take time just hypothetically, theoritically, vaguely considering the response json size, all the while displaying a loading indicator, 15 seconds, 45 seconds etc, is what a poor user experience would be. So, we break-up that huge json into multiple different components, different API end-points and display piece-by-piece. As and how these multiple response json are received by the app asynchronously, we halt the loading indicator and begin displaying each component stand-alone all by itself. It's like, first we display category-2 because the json arrived first, then category-4, then we do custom animation to slide-down category-4 and display category-3, and finally when category-1 arrives, we do the same custom animation to slide-down category-2 and display category-1. something in those lines.
  1. Follow-up question - But that's the problem. we cannot break-up the response json ? The listings within all categories are all together, and each list-item further has at least 1 image, because it's a saleable item.
Now I get it, this is a retail app specific question. If so, each image is fetched independently after all list-items are received and displayed. As in, images are fetched AFTER display is rendered. One optimization I can think of is to begin fetching images asynchronously, each for each list-item, as soon as the main-response is received, without waiting until the full home-page / dashboard is displayed to the User.
  1. Further follow-up question. That doesn't answer my question, as in improving User-experience significantly ? What if the list is way very large, like 200 or even 500 items ? As many images we are fetching asynchronously. So each image-area in the UI is either displaying a loading indicator or some static back-up image of some sort. Still a very poor user-experience.
Thinking to myself that clearly, no satisfactory answer as yet about good user-experience on the home-screen in a poor network connectivity scenario. How about Pagination ( not a very different answer from the original answer, breaking up the one main json, just pages now ) ? Why not display 20 or 30 items only, all categories but few items each, allowing User to navigate to a category detailed-list page, that too will have pagination.
  1. The whole problem lies in fetching large data, and on top of it, rendering high-quality images, in a poor network connectivity location. Why not just send latest or the least network connectivity speeds to the image server so it can respond with appropriate quality low memory foot-print image bytes ? Someone who's worked with Android for over a decade should have identified this as a problem and should be explaining this.
Me thinking again ( facepalm !! whatever happened to scalar and vector graphics support in Android ? Always fetch the least memory foot-print image from the servers under any network connectivity scenario, and image-rendering libraries will do their part in the app ? how did we even move from optimizing dashboard experience to sending network connectivity speeds to the servers ? when, and how was I supposed to guess that in this entire conversation ? Is this even an interview question, or a technical detailed brain-storming in an org invoving stake-holders, backend engineers, api-engineers.. yada yada yada... This would be an entire project right within itself.)
  1. Same interview, another question. What is better, Dagger-2 or Service-Locator for Dependency Management ?
If Dagger is done correctly then that is better. The big problem is that Modules and dependencies via components and sub-components are not declared correctly, mostly what I have experienced. PaymentsViewModel can receive a LoginRepository or LoginUseCase injectable, although they are completely unrelated, and there is absolutely never a scenario that they will interact ever. Service-Locator just bloats the memory. A service-locator has mappings from class / interface to it's concrete-instance, or a factory-instance that will generate the concrete-instance and such. Anyways, service-locator is prepared ready for use by pre-instantiating it's components, or lazy-instantiations, eitherways once it's in there, it is there. The larger the app code-base, the bigger the service-locators become, then there will be service-locators for service-locators.
  1. Dagger-2 is inefficient because reclaiming memory is a mess, in fact that doesn't happen even. Also, instantiating injections at run-time is slower. Eitherways it's a performance hit. Service-locator can be programmatically customized for better memory management. I'd expect someone with over a decade of experience... yada yada yada....
Facepalm again !!! Aren't Kotlin and Android advocating strongly for fly-weight instantiations on-the-go, and leave it up for the GC, which is what Dagger-2 follows ? Isn't Dagger-2 just generated code for establishing a chain-of-objects, and has nothing to do with instance retaining at run-time unlike Service Locators, at least when implemented correctly ? A ViewModel isn't instantiated and unavailable unless the Fragment is instantiated that needs it as an injectable, and so the rest of the chain-of-objects, repository or use-case, retrofit-api etc ? And don't this entire chain-of-objects clear their memory as soon as the Fragment is destroyed, which is bound to happen as soon as it is no longer associated with it's parent activity fragment-manager ? If this is about Bindings and such, isn't Dagger-2 suggesting to avoid it ? And Service-Locator is more efficient than Dagger-2, which is what Bindings are in Dagger-2 ? Yeah, get me out of here.
Interview-2
  1. what is the difference between native and hybrid apps ?
I have never ever worked with hybrid, only native, but here goes - Native apps use native development practices - SDK, guidelines, syncs well with the device etc. Hybrid uses other thirdparty development practices, typically javascript based, that then generates native apps, typically losing out on the most recent and latest components. Native works great with device system api such as BLE, camera, mic, volume etc, while Hybrid, at least as far as the developer community says, doesn't integrate that seamlessly.
  1. No you are describing everything about crossplatform apps.
Wait, isn't hybrid intended for crossplatform. So are hybrid and crossplatform also different ? how so ?Isn't KMM intended as crossplatform for iOS ? Isn't React-framework hybrid because isn't it intended for cross-platform, like same code-base for all three web, iOS and Android apps ?
  1. Anyways, moving on. what are the sdk components in Android ?
Sdk components ? Like, Gradle, AGP, annotation-processors like aapt, kapt ?

Frameworks like dependency libraries for a specific functionality and purpose ? Okhttp3 for network handshakes, retrofit for RESTful API on top of OkHttp3, Dagger-2 for dependency-management.
