They live about an hour away. Last week I visited them with plans to help them move into a new apartment. So, that's it. I can't invite them home because I'm concerned about the safety and stability of my family. I can't give them money because I've been doing that for years and it just never stops. We've tried to help them find housing resources but there just aren't any with how things are going. Keeping this secret admiration for Splatoon since getting Splatoon 3 made me feel guilty/awkward/embarrassed showing love and respect for Splatoon on the internet, hence why I haven’t liked any Splatoon material on Twitter and other sites, but instead, I put them in my bookmarks. And despite my avoidance of Splatoon, I did not express my past distaste for it; because if I did, I would have been ridiculed for speaking some blasphemy with no evidence to make my remarks valid. But after all this, after starting to enjoy Splatoon, I feel like an old man, too old to be liking and showing appreciation for something aimed at children and teens, hence my whole “feel guilty/awkward/embarrassed showing love and respect” remark. I know that there are people older than me, or close to my age showing their fascination for things aimed towards a younger audience, but my negative mind makes me think that -I- shouldn’t like things for children/teens. But I try to keep that negative thought out by saying, “who is to say you are never too old to like things for little kids and teens, right”? And now that I got this whole secret off of my chest, I love Splatoon! I can now like and share Splatoon appreciation from my bookmarks and into the public eye.
Marina makes me happy and rids me of any worries I have. She is the little vision and voice in my mind that tells me that it will be a good day. Since this admiration for her, playing Turf Wars in Splatoon 3 and losing does not make me angry. Instead, it makes me smile, laugh, and strive for more time to have fun with other players with the same passion. Sure, I may get annoyed when losing multiple times, but its more so me being killed a lot and not getting a lot of fun from the 3 minutes when being killed 5 to 10 times. I’ve been thinking about buying an Amiibo figure and plushie of Marina these past few months, but I feel like that’s overkill for someone who is finally admitting their love for a character 5 years after her debut. Speaking of which, I know a few friends know about my love for Marina, but not the majority of my friends and people that follow/watch me on my social media accounts. And loving Marina (or any character for that matter) is not new and unique, but for someone like me who disliked the series she came from and avoided it for seven years, it feels like I become lost in time, and I just need to express this love for Marina from all the years I missed out. This great admiration for her since October 2022 has taken my mind off the infinity amount of female characters that exist and lessened my temptation for lustful artworks, which in honesty, I have sluggardly been growing tired of the internet’s eroticism for characters through art and animation. I do not get the same enjoyment when looking at said art and animation of multiple characters, so I figured I could just focus that enjoyment on one female character via Marina.
It warms my heart to see new artwork of Marina. If I could, I would commission an abundance of artists to create art starring Marina, no matter the price, as a way to 1. see Marina in designs and art styles that I, while having the imagination, do not have the creativity and capability to produce such ideas into masterpieces, and 2. so there could be more appreciation for her (not to say there has not been so much appreciation for Marina over the years, but hey, you can never have too much art of your favorite character). I myself have created art of Marina to show that appreciation, but I despise myself for not capturing her perfection, and I envy artists who could make such miracles and those who manage to craft their vision of such a marvel as Marina. And yet, I continued creating many artworks of her because I adore this madam of music. I know she is not real, but my affection for her is. If there is an afterlife, and if man can create their own afterlife, I wish for mine to be in the (now) peaceful world of Splatoon, where I am an 18-year-old Inkling, now together with Marina in her Splatoon 2 prime, so I can spent my life after death life with this phenomenal woman. Oh, Marina. Too pure for this harsh world. Such a shining star of the cruel night called life. Godspeed you, black empress, wherever you are in Splatoon.

Hi, I am a student with 16 hours contract and mostly do 20 hours per week. I have been working in tesco express for about 4 months now. I am seeing too many holidays for me this month. I didn’t even asked for any. I talked to my manager and he told its totally okay. Till todays date, I had 6 holidays. In this month rota alone, i have 4 now holidays left. Should I be concerned?

My boyfriend and I met in person a year ago while I was studying abroad and he was on holiday. We’ve since had 3 visits all of which were in 2022 but we’re hoping to see each other in November. He was going to pay for my travel costs to visit him last February but I had a family emergency and I couldn’t make the trip and then the ticket prices got ridiculously high after that so we’ve put it off.
We text daily, send each other memes, and we call almost every day for like 30 mins to an hour to check in but he also likes to call me when he is in bed or about to sleep and I am starting my day. I work from home with semi-flexible hours and he works hybrid but mostly from home but his job can get very hectic and he feels burnt out.
The daily calls are more like check ins. Sometimes we’re both too tired to actually talk, sometimes we’re doing parallel play or he’s streaming a game for me to watch sometimes the call is cut short or there are a lot of interruptions on his end. I just don’t feel like we get any quality time. He seems perfectly okay with our set up now but I don’t feel like my needs are being met. It’s so different compared to when he’s actually around.
Everything feels like it revolves around his schedule, if you would even call it a schedule. He says he doesn’t like planning anything and just does things when he’s in the mood to. I really like routine, and planning ahead, I’ve made this clear to him but somehow he still doesn’t get it and i feel like I’m being dismissed. I’ve expressed that I know we can’t have proper dates but he can still “ask me out” and we can have scheduled time to do an activity online together and it will feel like a date. But he rarely takes initiative to do that. And whenever we plan something, something always comes up and we either have to put it off or it gets cut short.
He also says he just doesn’t know what boyfriend-y things he can do to make me feel cared for when he’s away from me. It frustrates me because I feel like that’s him just not putting any effort into coming up with things to do.

I started dating my partner 12 months ago and it has been of a relationship rollercoaster. My partner has high expectations of how a relationship should progress and has been frustrated with how slow I have been to merge our two lives. My partner is on a student visa and has been for the past 7 years. He mentioned very early into our relationship that others might suggest that he is with me just for my citizenship, however expressed that he would be really agitated if I believed that and requested we don’t talk about it. It was never something we spoke much about, but over the last few month he has alluded to doing a partner visa together instead of him doing a graduate visa. I have been hesitant to agree to do the visa together as I am worried about the impact it may have on our relationship dynamic. My partner has now said he doesn’t think we should plan holidays or having kids together if I don’t think a partner visa is practical. He has now asked for some space. I have not said I won’t do it, I just feel worried that if we do not stay together,it will impact his visa status and he has worked really hard to navigate it on his own. Any advice ?

Throwaway acc but some people from my school might recognise me. I am a secondary school student (15). 2 months ago, one of my friends killed himself and it's affected everyone. It was unexpected as he was really cheerful and no one thought that it would happen. No one saw it coming and everyone was really shocked. I was not that close to him but it still hurts a lot. The thoughts keep haunting me and it's a lot to handle. One of my friends told me before that I saved his life by talking to him when he was going to kill himself and I think to myself, why couldn't I have done the same for my friend? I myself has had some depressive thoughts and did not know that suicide could affect others so much. It was hard to learn of that fact. I might seem like I'm coping well on the outside but few people know about all these thoughts I have.
On the first few weeks after it happened, the school was providing support and helping us. However, after that period, everyone just expected us to move on. The normal school pace returned and we had to rush back to our normal routine. Even though the teachers understand our feelings or they want to offer help, we cannot afford to pause due to the fast pace education especially in my school. With the school holidays, it's a good time to slow down and process everything.
It's been a tough 70+ days and the process of grieve might never get easier. Writing this post was not easy and I hope I get to help others with it. For the people that know the person, honour him, survive his legacy. I hope you are doing better and you feel better eventually. He was a great friend and was really genuine. Through this rant I would like to express my feelings and help others understand the impact of one's death. It is really a big thing that is not a joke and we all need to take it seriously.
To everyone out there that might be thinking of ending your own life, don't. There are many that care for you. We constantly think of what we could have done to save our friends, and we would have definitely supported him and helped him. Your friends do care about you and please live on, for your dreams and to experience life to the fullest. As more events and fun activities happened, I think of all the fun and happiness that he could have felt but could not. If you ever think that life is is at rock bottom, it only gets better from there. We never saw any signs coming and he was cheerful and happy all the time. Please seek help when you need it and don't bottle up your emotions as you never know when the bottle might break. With this, I end off my post and I could only wish that I am helping others through this post. RIP J.

hi everyone, I am (21f) my bf is (25m), been dating very happily for 3 years for context. lets call my bf Derek for privacy.
I don’t come from a very tight-knit family. Holidays were very intimate for me growing up, where grandparents, aunts and uncles would visit shortly but after a bit of food and hot cocoa/tea/coffee would leave. Christmas was usually hot cocoa in front of the fire with siblings, thanksgiving was dinner at grandparents with family then go home. and so on. very casual and chill. I have been living with my boyfriend and his parents for a while. I won’t go into context, really long story. due to me living with him, I have spent all holidays with him and his family the past 3 years. I love my boyfriend and his family, they are all wonderful people and have accepted me with open arms. experiencing holidays with them, I have grown to dread the holidays. I now get stressed just thinking about Christmas time. they all love to party and drink for every holiday and I can’t keep up with it. I am always the youngest person in the room so I don’t relate to any of the conversations. I barely drink. its too much for me to handle. my social battery runs low quick, then I go to Dereks and my room to cool down. I feel pressured to fit into this tight knit family dynamic and I just don’t see myself in the future living this lifestyle at all. they all meet once a week on the weekend, and I choose to work that day because I can’t keep up with how often they see each other. I love them all I just can’t bring myself into the dynamic three years in. I feel incredibly guilty because of it.
I have expressed to Derek how I feel, but he saw it as me trying to tell him to choose between him and his family. that is not my intentions at all, I find it sweet and wholesome they’re all close. I am at a loss here. I feel resentment because of it. his family has gotten involved in our relationship in the past. I feel like I can’t have a fully developed relationship with Derek because I can’t get much quality alone time with him with out having to cut things short to go see his family for something. we are going to be out of state for the summer, but he is already talking about taking 5 hour trips back home to make these family parties and I feel like I am going insane. we will only be gone for 2 months.. I love him so much… I just can’t vision my future revolving around a tight knit family dynamic. we talk about marriage I don’t know what to do..

TLDR;; my best friend Claire* is in a relationship with a violent alcoholic, Emily* and I don't know how to help her see that she needs to leave.
I (f26) have been best friends with Claire* (f26) for 13 years, we have been through a lot together during this time. Claire met her now wife Emily* (f40) a little over a year ago and at first I got along with her fine. Emily has 2 children (8 & 6) from a precious marriage. Claire does not have any children.
Things seemed to be going well for the first few months until Claire disclosed to me one day, that Emily drinks a lot and that when they argue when Emily has been drinking, Emily becomes abusive physically and verbally. She told me that Emily had punched her in the head on 2 separate occasions and kicked Claire out the house numerous times. Claire has never retaliated or become violent or verbally abusive toward Emily.
Upon this revelation, I told Claire that she was experiencing domestic violence and that she needed to leave the relationship because it would only get worse and she deserved better than the way she was being treated. Claire expressed she was afraid to leave as she couldn't imagine not being able to see the children again and that they were the only reason she was still in the relationship. She explained she wasn't afraid of Emily, but was afraid of losing the children.
Fast forward a couple of months and Claire proposed to Emily. Emily said yes and the wedding planning began.
Claire told me things were better, and that Emily had not been abusive since she had quit drinking and Claire was prepared to continue the relationship with hopes things would continue to get better now than Emily had her drinking problem under control.
12 months after first dating, the wedding came around. Before I walked Claire down the aisle, she asked me if she was making the right decision, I told her only she knew the answer to that and reiterated that I would support any decision she makes. The night seemed to be going well until late in to the night when Emily was getting more intoxicated. An argument broke out between Emily's sister and Claire's sister and whilst Claire and myself were trying to defuse the situation, Emily came inside and it was as though something in her just switched and Emily started hurling out verbal abuse to everyone, Claire tried to calm Emily down saying things like "it's okay babe, I've asked them both to leave, let's just go outside and enjoy ourselves" etc. Next thing Emily punched Claire straight in the face and I saw red. I told her to never lay her hands on Claire again and then Emily turned on me and tried to physically attack me. Claire asked me to please leave saying she was so sorry and she would talk to me in the morning. I left. As I now know, Emily continued her rampage, not only hitting Claire again, but also her own cousin and her best friend after I had left. All of this in front of her 2 young children.
The next morning Emily claimed to not remember any of the events of the night. I saw Claire a few weeks later and again explained to her that Emily's behaviour was in no way okay and that Claire should not tolerate it and needs to leave as it is a toxic and dangerous relationship. Claire was appreciative of my honesty and knows that she will only ever get that from me. She stated she they were going to go to a relationship counsellor and Emily was again going to quit drinking. Claire told me that nothing would affect our friendship and she always wants me to be honest with her and that my opinion would always be the most important to her.
It's been a couple of months and they're on holiday together and in photos I can see that Emily is still drinking. I am afraid that Claire won't confide in me if things get volatile again, now that she knows I have strong thoughts about their relationship. Claire and my relationship hasn't seemed to be affected aside from seeing each other less regularly but we still talk via text often. Emily has deleted me off all social media.
I have asked her what advice she would give me if the roles were reversed and she said the same things I have I said.
I'm afraid that Emily's gaslighting and manipulation is going to drive a wedge between mine and Claire's friendship. I've never been in a situation where I have absolutely despised a friends partner before and it's a horrible feeling.
Thank you if you have made it this far, I don't know else what to do to get Claire to see that she deserves so much better than she situation she is in. Any advice??

We're currently having some well needed space and I wonder if she really does have a point here.
So I (23M) have been dating Lucy (22F) for a couple years now. She had expressed the desire to go on ski holiday with 3 of her other mates (2 guys and another girl) but I really don't want to.
I proposed the idea of a couples weekend getaway a few months ago and she did not want to go. At All. "I'm bad at planning". She's worried about it being too far in advance (5 months from now) despite this trip she wants me to go on being at least a year from now. I also don't get along that well with those friends (she dated one of the guys) that I would feel comfortable going on holiday with them. I also don't want to pay tons of money so they can go skiing while I sit in a lodge somewhere by myself. Skiing is also expensive.
She thinks I'm being vindictive about the fact she doesn't want to go on holiday with me. I see it as using the same reason as her for not wanting to go on holiday with me in 5 months and by me agreeing to go, they pay less money each for the trip. She called me a dick and saying that we should talk again in a couple of weeks. AITA?

I have 2 SDs, 5 & 3. DH is only a biological father to SD 3 but has taken in SD 5 because her bio dad is super unstable and not in the picture. DH and I both love the girls equally. Generally speaking we show SD5 more attention because she is more out spoken and has struggled more with the divorce.
Well recently, DH and I found out we’re expecting our second baby and we discussed whether or not we feared showing favoritism. We both expressed that we weren’t really worried. I know my heart is big enough to love on all the kiddos in my life. When DH mentioned he and BM had a talk a few months before their divorce about having a favorite kid. DH said of course there is a special bond with his bio daughter but he couldn’t really say that meant she was his favorite.
This is when BM said SD5 is her favorite kid. She loves them both but prefers her time with SD5. As we talked about this DH pointed out the differences in how SD3 is treated. It really made me upset to think about. I believe kids are smart and whether or not BM says it to SD3 or not, she’ll be able to see it one day if she doesn’t already.
I don’t have 2 kids yet so I don’t know if this is a thing I’m unaware of. Those of you who have more than one kid of your own do you have a favorite? Is this normal?
