So I have been getting constant calls from hdfc bank for a few weeks now to enable my debit card for online payments. Tbh I am a bit skeptical about following their instructions but I did try to do the same after I disconnected the call(foolish I know). I would like to know whether these calls were genuine(information call, they said) or a scam. As a first time bank account holder I don't want to risk anything. Also, the guy who called me recently was rude and impatient at the end when I told him I would have to ask my parents for confirmation, and accused me of making the same excuse I used the previous time with his colleagues and that its a 2min job 🥲
They didn't ask me to click on any suspicious links. They only wanted me to open my banking app and customize my debit card and enable online transaction(limits and all) and verify the same(by myself). After four years in this county, which I truly love and I am grateful of what it offers, yesterday evening had the worst experience at the parking Brasserie located at the Grund. I have never faced such situation, where security guys pushing people that just wanted to pay their tickets to go outside the parking. The cashier was not accepting Vpay, Visa debit and cash. They were accepting only Visa credit...totally joke. Waiting more than one hour to exit the parking. To add on top of that 6 police officers stood there and did nothing about it. Latest bill arrives for £2,000, don't worry we have your details and collect your money by direct debit.
I then receive a followup letter saying due to a mistake I must figure out how to pay them £1,200 or they are going to send the bailifs around.
I am now stuck paying £170 a month, no apology, some more threats about if I miss payments they will send me to a collection agency.

This is a strange one. I picked up a Series x on all access last November. Strange situation has happened to me this weekend. After a night out on Friday night my partner caught an Uber home at ~4am sat morning. At the end of the trip, the Uber driver touched her leg inappropriately before asking if she would like to go for a ride with him. Obviously very creeped out she was in a mad rush to get out of the Uber and into her building resulting in the phone being left in the Uber.
The phone was traceable for most of the next day, finally being in lost mode giving my number the driver was able to contact me. He spoke to me on the phone and said that he would have no worries delivering the phone to our place of residence. Uber has a lost item delivery charge of $20 which is what was expected to be payed.
This was the expectation until Sunday afternoon where at the last minute the driver says he is unable to deliver the phone but his friend would be able to deliver. Fast forward, this friend of his arrives, likely not important to the story but he is a very large male third party expecting to be meeting with a young woman. I speak to the man and after he gives me the phone, the man says that he was promised payment for dropping the phone off in the order of $50.
I tell the man that Uber charges a lost item fee and he should speak to his friend about the money. This is when he comes at me and physically assaults me to wrestle the phone out of my hands and says he’s going to take the phone without the money. I eventually have to transfer him $50 (out of debit) to get the phone back.
I’m obviously not a lawyer but I would love to hear what smarter people than me have to think about the situation as I’m pretty shaken up.
Edit: I have witnesses for the friend of the Uber driver assaulting me but no contact details and plates for his car because he parked purposely several hundred meters away from the pick up spot.

Hi, this is in England.
Not sure if this is the best sub for this, we are first time buyers and have recently made a mortgage application through a mortgage broker. We did this face to face and paid the arrangement fee up front as the broker advised, and we replied to the email declaration there and then authorizing that we are happy to pay the arrangement fee up front and that it is non-refundable amongst other things.
We hadn't realised it was non-refundable even if our mortgage application is rejected (it says it in the declaration but we overlooked it, which is obviously our fault) and have realised now its possible the arrangement fee could be paid at a later date once the property is secured.
My question is in the declaration it says for the arrangement fee "I authorise you to charge my debit / credit card with the following amount: £99" whereas we paid £999 which is what the arrangement fee is. This obviously seems to be a typo.
My question is does this make the declaration void in any way and would there be any grounds for a refund if anything falls through, or am I clutching at straws.
