2023.06.06 13:57 RevolutionaryEye9536 Not an alcoholic but i want to quit drinking.

I definitely have a problem with alcohol, just not the severe blackout drunk type of problem.
I drink probably on average 3-4 days a week. Thing is I like the feeling of a good buzz, but I hate being drunk, so I really might only drink 4 beer max in one sitting.
I haven’t gone more than a week without drinking since covid started until about 2 weekends ago where I decided to try not drinking at all. It was a bit of an eye opener, ended up having a good night sleep on the weekend and found myself way more productive on that Saturday and Sunday. Didn’t realize how much anxiety drinking gave me too the next day. Got all sorts of house projects done.
Ended up drinking my usual beers this weekend both Friday and Saturday night, just felt like I was running at 70 percent compared to the alcohol free weekend.
Additionally, I am in Canada where alcohol is expensive, so I am spending between 150-200 a month on drinking. In this economy it’s probably easier to justify cutting it out with the cost of living increase over the last couple years.
Anyone else here a chronic moderate drinker that had success quitting? Would like to hear how it went and what your reasons for quitting were.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so

Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).

“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie.)

“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie, we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there, that's what I meant by the resetting.Maybe 'resetting' wasn't a good term.only

one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise

. "By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful.

There's nothing so wrong with “Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.

It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.

In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.

“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Movie Wakanda Forever (2022) FULLMOVIE ONLINE

VidaCalm is a dietary supplement comprising natural minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients to improve sleep, ear, and brain health. The maker advertises that it can alleviate tinnitus and hearing problems and allow its users a better night of sleep.
Hearing loss and tinnitus can lower your life quality. Experts warn that a lack of certain nutrients in the brain and ears triggers stressful sounds and accelerates hearing loss.
VidaCalm is a dietary supplement for tinnitus, hearing problems, and poor brain health. Who can use it? What are its ingredients?

What is VidaCalm?

VidaCalm is a dietary supplement comprising natural minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients to improve sleep, ear, and brain health. The maker advertises that it can alleviate tinnitus and hearing problems and allow its users a better night of sleep. Similarly, it is a natural cognitive booster using natural ingredients to help improve memory.
VidaCalm capsules are small and easy to swallow. However, combining the formulation with healthy eating and lifestyle habits may also help to gain significant therapeutic benefits. The official website shows over 75,000 users have tried the supplement and reported positive results.

Who Created VidaCalm?

VidaCalm was created by Christopher Palmer, a hearing and tinnitus researcher for 13+ years. Christopher appears on the official VidaCalm website with a stethoscope around his neck, which suggests he treats patients as part of his research role.
For the past 13 years, Christopher has dedicated his life to curing tinnitus. He has fought against the notion that tinnitus is a “made-up” condition.
Christopher admits that he has treated patients as part of his job. He claims to have helped celebrities hear better, for example, and he claims to have seen “thousands” of hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear health cases over the years. Instead of just sitting in his lab researching cures for tinnitus all day, Christopher appears to have genuine patient care experience.
Christopher worked with a team of “over 70” international researchers to develop the VidaCalm formula. He also worked with hundreds of tinnitus sufferers to refine that formula.

How Does VidaCalm Work?

VidaCalm combines neurocognitive science with the power of eighteen blended ingredients to enhance brain and ear health. Natural antioxidants and vitamins promote cellular health and fight free radicals. The anti-inflammatory nutrients fight unhealthy inflammation, thus improving neural health.
According to the maker, VidaCalm contains nutrients such as chamomile, lemon balm, ashwagandha, and hawthorn to fight stress and improve moods. It can also heighten the signals between the brain and ears, thus fighting stressful noises from tinnitus.

What to Expect with VidaCalm: Step-by-Step Process

Christopher Palmer and his team developed VidaCalm as part of a 4-step process for relieving tinnitus. After you take one capsule of VidaCalm, the supplement walks your body through three steps for long-term tinnitus relief, including:
Stage 1) VidaCalm Targets the Root Cause of Tinnitus – Excess Glutamate Buildup
Christopher's research found excess glutamate causes tinnitus. The first step with VidaCalm is to target this excess glutamate buildup. To do that, VidaCalm provides you with gamma-aminobutyric acid or GABA. According to Christopher, GABA “is exactly what you need” for tinnitus because it can restore the normal function of your overactive auditory cells. As soon as GABA enters your body, it signals your brain to eliminate excess glutamate as fast as possible. Each capsule of VidaCalm contains the “perfect amount of GABA” to fight excess glutamate buildup. Other ingredients in VidaCalm, meanwhile, support your body's ability to produce GABA on its own, including magnolia,

Stage 2) Repair the Damage Done by Tinnitus
Tinnitus does damage your ears and brain over time. When left untreated, tinnitus can cause brain disorders, memory loss, and other serious health problems. That's why Christopher and his team added certain ingredients to VidaCalm to repair the damage done by tinnitus, giving you long-term relief and better long-term hearing. These ingredients are based on the science of neuroplasticity, which is the idea your brain can heal itself.

Stage 3) Improve, Revitalize, and Protect Your Hearing
90% of tinnitus sufferers also have hearing loss. That's why Christopher developed VidaCalm to fix your hearing. Many ingredients in VidaCalm are specifically designed to improve, revitalize, and protect hearing. Some components fix ear hair cell damage caused by tinnitus, for example. According to Christopher's research, lutein and other elements in VidaCalm can improve your hearing.

Ingredients

VidaCalm is a unique 18-in-1 supplement with natural ingredients to nourish the brain and ears. The proprietary blend of vitamins, herbs, antioxidants, and minerals has been used for hundreds of years in neurocognitive science. The creator claims each nutrient is research-based and in doctor-certified amounts to offer multiple health benefits. The active components include:

GABA
GABA supports healthy hearing and improves brain activities. The well-known ingredient enhances the signals between the brain and ears, thus blocking noise and amplifying hearing.
VidaCalm claims that GABA can augment cellular health in the ears. It can combat free radicals causing mixed signals in the brain. Additionally, the nutrient balances the moods and enhances sleep quality. Clinical trials on humans indicate that it promotes relaxation, relieves stress, and fortifies overall brain health.

Mucuna Pruriens
VidaCalm creator reasons that enhancing brain health is the first step towards fighting tinnitus and hearing issues. High-stress levels surge the free radical population in the body, thus reducing cellular regeneration in the brain.
Mucuna pruriens is loaded with the natural amino acid – L-dopamine. The hormone supports happy moods and lowers cortisol levels. Consequently, it can combat oxidative stress and promote relaxation. Additionally, mucuna pruriens develops cognitive abilities, including memory, thinking, learning, creativity, and clarity.

Magnolia
VidaCalm reports that magnolia flowers have two potent brain-improving compounds, honokiol and magnolol. The pair enables the brain to absorb GABA chemicals. Magnolia promotes relaxation, alleviates stress, and may combat stressful noises.
Clinical research shows that magnolia can enhance energy levels, particularly in the brain. It improves metabolic functions, thus strengthening the signal quality in the ears and brain. VidaCalm claims it can elevate memory, focus, and concentration.

L-Theanine
L-Theanine is a natural nootropic. It works by improving brain energy, balancing mood hormones, and combating stress. Verified clinical studies indicate that it can benefit cognition and overall brain health.
VidaCalm asserts that it can protect memory in aging individuals and enhance cognitive abilities. Clinical studies show that it can improve cellular health, promote blood circulation in the brain, and reduce the risk of developing cognitive issues. The natural amino acids also strengthen neural transmissions and may therefore fight tinnitus.

B-Complex
Vitamin B-complex is essential in enhancing nerve health. There are hundreds of neurons in the brain and ears. B-complex is a natural antioxidant protecting the brain cells and DNA from damage. It also enhances nerve functioning, thus combating stressful noises and tinnitus.
Vitamin B-complex also supports healthy brain metabolism. It provides the brain cells with adequate energy for optimal functioning. Further, the antioxidant can help users to stay sharp for extended periods. The vitamin also minimizes chronic brain fog and amplifies sleep quality.

Lutein
Most vegetables and fruits contain lutein compounds. The nutrient strengthens the auditory cortex in the brain, thus boosting sound perception. Verified studies indicate it minimizes the risk of hearing loss, particularly in the aging population.
Lutein can improve cognitive abilities. According to VidaCalm maker, it may sharpen memory, thinking, creativity, learning, and concentration. In addition, it can fight sleep issues and promote relaxation. Lutein also stimulates the production of mood hormones, including dopamine. In conjunction with other VidaCalm nutrients can develop improved hearing and cognitive abilities.

Magnesium
Magnesium supports numerous biochemical functions in the body. The mineral stimulates optimal blood flow throughout the system. VidaCalm creator claims it ensures the tiny vessels in the inner ear receive optimal nutrients and oxygen. Additionally, it supports the elimination of oxidative and metabolic wastes.
Magnesium supports natural hearing levels. It fortifies nerve health and speeds up signal transmission. The mineral also improves energy levels, balances melatonin levels, and promotes relaxation. Magnesium can alleviate symptoms of age-related hearing issues.

Zinc
Zinc deficiency is associated with multiple health problems, including hearing loss. Research indicates it can improve and revive hearing. The mineral promotes healthy metabolism in the brain and ears. Similarly, it nourishes the nerves and ear cells, thus optimizing signal transmission.
Zinc is a natural metabolic booster. It increases energy-producing processes, including respiration and thermogenesis. Thus, it can fight physical and mental lethargy. Further, the natural mineral may improve concentration, clarity, and memory. Similarly, it can alleviate symptoms of depression and stress.

Oat Straw
Oat straw is rich in natural polyphenols and antioxidants. Scholarly reports indicate that it can combat depression, anxiety, and stress. Similarly, it is commonly used to manage neurodegenerative health problems.
Oat straw works by enhancing moods. It promotes the production of happy hormones while stabilizing cortisol levels. It minimizes the levels of free radicals and can amplify the health of brain cells.
VidaCalm claims that oat straw provides essential brain and inner ear nutrients. Consequently, it can fight unwanted sounds, tinnitus, and other hearing issues.

Rhodiola
Rhodiola has been used for hundreds of years to manage brain health. Studies indicate that it can aid the user in adapting to physical and mental stress. Experts warn that most people today cannot control their stress levels. Unmanaged stress increases cortisol levels lowering energy levels and increasing free radicals levels.
Supplementing with Rhodiola can enhance energy levels, thus improving physical and mental performance. Additionally, the nutrient supports relaxation, quality moods, and sleep.

Chamomile
Chamomile is a natural sedative and relaxant. The herb has been used for ages to calm the brain and offer relaxation. Studies indicate that it can alleviate stress and promote healthy sleep. Chamomile works by boosting the serotonin hormone. It aids in the development of emotional stability, focus, and confidence.
VidaCalm adds that chamomile can enhance sleep. Ayurvedic and ancient Chinese medicine show that it promotes better and restorative sleep. Research shows it boosts melatonin levels, thus enabling deeper and quality sleep.

Lemon Balm
The medicinal herb fights muscle tension and improves recovery, particularly after strenuous physical activities. It can help users to relax and reduce stress after a stressful day. Lemon balm leaves have a distinctive lemon flavor, thus ideal for creating herbal tea.
Lemon balm promotes nerve health. It has rosmarinic acid, essential in boosting GABA levels in the brain. According to VidaCalm, it can minimize hearing problems and tinnitus. Additionally, it can promote healthy blood circulation.

Hawthorn
Hawthorn is clinically verified to support heart health. It is rich in nutrients that combat unwanted cholesterol and prevents plaque buildup in the blood vessels. Hawthorn ensures the brain and ear cells receive enough nutrients and oxygen.
Hawthorn may promote metabolic rates. Animal studies indicate it can improve energy levels and combat chronic lethargy. Additionally, the herb may improve moods, relaxation, and sleep. It can inhibit restlessness and fortify cognitive skills.

Hops and Valerian
Hops and valerian are used together to enhance physical and mental health. The two nutrients are rich in flavonoids and antioxidants, which may heighten cellular health. Additionally, the pair may lower unhealthy inflammations in the ear, thus promoting hearing abilities.
Hops and valerian can improve mental health. According to scientists, the duo alleviates anxiety and restlessness, particularly during stressful situations. The nutrients improve focus, memory, and concentration. Similarly, it may enhance brain energy levels keeping you motivated and in a good mood throughout the day.

Devil’s Claw
Devil's Claw is rich in 5-HTP compounds clinically proven to improve mental health. 5-HTP promotes the production of mood hormones and promotes relaxation. Devil's Claw signals the brain to lower cortisol levels, reducing stress.
5-HTP molecules may improve nerve health. Devil's Claw promotes healthy nutrient and oxygen absorption throughout the brain. It can therefore manage symptoms of neural damage. It also elevates cell regeneration in the inner ear.

Passionflower
Passionflower serves as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It promotes ear and nerve health by lowering unwanted inflammation. The herb extract can stimulate cell regeneration and revitalization.
VidaCalm claims that passionflower can enhance heart health and keep blood pressure within the healthy range. The herb has a distinctive flavor clinically proven to raise dopamine levels. It may therefore alleviate anxiety, promote calmness, and fight sleep problems.

Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals and promote healthy aging. The herb can lower unwanted stress, improve energy levels, and improve overall wellness. VidaCalm advertises that it can develop verbal accuracy, focus, and memory.

Bacopa
Bacopa is a natural memory enhancer. The cognitive booster develops nerve health and protects the brain cells from damage. It can improve memory, learning, creativity, and focus, among other cognitive abilities.
Bacopa can lower stress and anxiety levels. Clinical research shows it can promote sleep, combat brain fog, and improve signal strength. In addition, Bacopa can strengthen the inner ear and amplify hearing.
The eighteen ingredients in VidaCalm are designed to work in tandem to fight hearing problems and tinnitus. Users must consume the formulation regularly to restore hearing and gain other health benefits.

VidaCalm Reviews: What Do Customers Say?

The official website says over 70,000 people have used VidaCalm to support hearing and ease tinnitus. Those customers include celebrities, musicians, US military veterans, and many others.
Here are some of the reviews and testimonials featured on the official VidaCalm website:
One man claims he tried everything to cure his tinnitus. He even paid $4,000 for high-tech noise-canceling headphones at one point – only to find they made his tinnitus worse. Then, he started to take VidaCalm: “Soon after, my whole life changed. My painful hissing is now gone. My headaches – they're gone too.” He can hear anything crystal clear and sleeps all night without issue, thanks to VidaCalm.
Professor Nicholas Farnsworth describes VidaCalm as “a truly remarkable breakthrough,” claiming he can “strongly recommend” the supplement to anyone with tinnitus and hearing problems.
One reviewer claims VidaCalm is “absolutely like nothing I've ever tried,” claiming her life has “changed completely” because the supplement has restored silence to her ears.
Another customer claims it was “like I was born again” after taking VidaCalm for the first time. She got “great results in almost no time” after taking VidaCalm, describing the supplement as “essential” to hearing and tinnitus relief.
One VidaCalm user claims he had “great results in almost no time” after taking the supplement. He used to struggle to watch movies and have conversations with friends. Today, he can converse normally and go to the movies without issue. He also claims VidaCalm sharpened his memory.
One VidaCalm customer, in a video testimonial, claims he has “no more ringing, no more buzzing, all quiet” after taking VidaCalm. He sleeps better and can go about his day like normal, describing the formula as “just the best.”
One customer claims she had an “intense ringing” years before taking VidaCalm. Thanks to the supplement, it's been “ages” since her last bout of tinnitus.
Karen, from Naples, Florida, has suffered from tinnitus and hearing loss for the last two years because of exposure to loud noises. Karen's doctor told her she would go deaf in one ear because of the physical damage to her ear. After taking VidaCalm, however, “now [her] hearing is perfect in both ears.”

2023.06.06 07:30 Wise-Recognition8990 swords and core crystals

SO MANY QUESTIONS LOL
We know N's sword is called Sword of the End and Sword of Origin. However, the latter is also the one that Noah/Mio ouroboros pull out of thir chest during the final fight with N. Then there's lucky 7, Noah's sword... Is Noah's sword the sword of origin too? Is the sword that Noah/Mio ouroboros use against N the same as lucky 7? I'm so confused... Was lucky 7 made before N's sword? N's sword didn't cut through weapons (oh wait maybe cuz he was using his purple sheath sword that too concealed another sword?) like lucky 7.Also, the core crystals in FR...Rex has Pneuma (Pyra/Mythra) sword, but that's just an Aionios copy, right?Matthew's fists conceal the Pneuma core crystal, but is that the real one? Also, doesn't Noah's sheath gauntlet also have a similar green light? Does it have Pneuma too? If so, how is that possible? Was Matthew's blade somehow passed down to Noah as a sword still with Pneuma inside it?Bringing up N's sword again, we see lucky 7 when N already has his sword (Z is like "how tf does that man even have that sword"), so was N's sword based on lucky 7 or what? Also, N's sword probably contains Logos, and that's why he's so powerful (he can defeat Ontos/Alpha), but Ontos seemed much more powerful (at least theoretically) than Logos and Pneuma.

2023.06.06 05:05 Telemachusfar The Human Security Officer, Part 6

Slightly longer one here, I think I like them this length. Anyway, as always, thanks for reading! :)
---
“I am unsure Miss,” Ton'et's central body turned somewhat and look of deep thought came over them, “wait… we’ve established that these three are not party with these Tinsne. They are wearing habsuits and have died more recently. At this time we have two questions. One, Where did these three come from? And two, What was that disturbance?” They looked at Penelope.
“…I’m not sure I’m following.”
“I’m suggesting that these two questions may have the same answer. The sound and jostling correspond with an airlock alignment and clamping sequence. I believe we have been just boarded by whoever sent these three here.”
“… Shit.”
“An apt Terran expletive.”
Ton’et noticed the human’s eyes tarry on the weapons crates but was surprised when she instead stood and moved to the doorway.
“Can’t do anything from here. Follow behind me and we`ll see what we’re dealing with. If something happens just hide and stay down.” Penelope let out a hollow chuckle.
“An expression of amusement? Why?” Ton’et asked as they moved to the airlock.
“Well, you wanted firsthand data on human biology, right? It looks like you’re gonna get it.” she said, moving to the door.
“I see… not quite what I had in mind Miss…”
Penelope gave Ton’et a wry smile as she waited for them to take a position behind the lip of the door. Pressing the button, the doors slid opened quickly but no one waited for them in the airlock itself and the doors to the Blue Nebula wouldn’t unlock until the outer door was closed. As such, the two moved in and again took up positions. Penelope at the door and Ton’et behind cover.
This time Penelope waited. Moving the side of her head up against the door and pausing for a moment. She then repeated the odd action lower on the door.
“What are you doing Miss Penelope?” Ton’et asked.
Penelope tapped the fleshy protrusions on her head, “Listening. There’s something mechanical on the other side of the door.”
“How can you… questions for later. It’s most likely a frame. There’s nowhere near enough folks turning to piracy to fill a crew so its not uncommon to see them using mechanical assistants.”
“Great…”
Really? Robots?
A focus came over the human as she motioned for Ton’et to stay down. It almost scared them how her face changed expression. There was no smile anymore, and the eyes took on a deadly seriousness. They shuddered to think of themselves on the receiving end of this aura.
Having noted her companion’s hidden position Penelope took a deep breath and opened the door.
In an instant, it slid open and her target was in front of her. A machine about half her height with three leg-like appendages supporting a round body and atop that a cylindrical shaped head. A lens was looking down the hall to the cargo bay before it quickly refocused on the large creature surging forward from the airlock. A small laser weapon deployed from body but it had no time to fire as Penelope’s left hand gripped its head, lifted it into the air, and slammed it into the opposite wall.
Penelope had apparently used enough force to crush the thing’s head entirely as its body detached and fell to the floor. The shattered head only remained due to Penelope’s grip.
Oh… well then, that was…
“Huh… I honestly thought that it would be a bit more durable.” She said as she looked at the crushed cylinder in her hand and then let it drop to the ground.
After a brief moment of shock Ton’et produced their datapad and began taking notes. Penelope noted that the rest of the corridor was clear and began making her way to the bridge.
“Bridge first, hopefully we can get a good idea of what we’re up against… and where everyone is.”
Ton’et made a gesture mimicking a nod and followed at a distance.
Reaching the turn in the corridor, Penelope peeked around the corner and saw that the bridge doors were wide open. It wasn’t a great angle, but she could see one frame of similar design past the open doors. Holding out a hand she motioned for Ton’et to stay put.
Ton’et was again surprised and made note of the near silence with which Penelope dropped low to the ground and made her way to the open bridge door. What was one frame from the angle of the corner revealed itself to be two frames and an alien in a familiar style habsuit.
Penelope was used to perfectly controlling her movements in regular gravity and with the ship operating on half that norm it was almost nothing to move with speed and silence. She moved past the first frame she’d seen which was evaluating the security console. Making sure not to alert that frame she moved up behind the alien and the frame it stood next to. They were apparently attempting to slice the console attached to Captain Deag’s chair. This task seemingly so engrossing that neither noticed Penelope taking a position directly behind them.
In a flash of motion she grabbed the alien by its habsuit with her left hand and the frame by its head with her right. In one fell motion she crushed the frame and whipped its body across the bridge into the second frame destroying them both. She turned the aliens face towards the pile of frame parts and then back to her.
“Call for help and I promise you, that habsuit wont even slow me down. Understand?” she said with a deathly growl, staring into its eye.
It began to shake in the suit and uttered a single wilting, “…yes.”
“Good. Now, you’re gonna answer some questions for me.”
Ton’et barely watched where they were walking as they moved onto the bridge. Tapping away at the data pad and muttering to themselves.
“Inquire about limits of superb strength. Inquire about ability to move silently despite size. Inquire about ability to launch objects at speed and with accuracy.” They continued as they moved into a corner and sat down.
The alien in Penelope’s grip noticed Ton’et but did nothing but shake in fear and wait for the questions.
“First. How many of you are there?” Her tone was cool and controlled.
“Five total now, thing on other ship got Mol, Vardin, and Eiggia. More frames. Me here, three others should be in cargo bay with your people, frames too. One left on our ship. Please don’t kill me.”
“Cooperate and I won’t harm a hair on your…” she noticed it was seemingly hairless, “Look, talk and you’ll be fine. Deal?”
It made a gesture that Penelope assumed was equivalent to a nod.
“Excellent. How many frames? And is everyone using energy weapons?”
“Ehrm, seven frames and…” It seemed to be confused about the second question, “energy weapons… yes? I am the only one not armed.”
“Last question. You have a means of communicating with your friends?”
The alien’s eye tarried to a belt on its suit. Hooked on it was a small round device.
“This?” Penelope grabbed the thing and held it up.
“Yes. Touch screen, speak.” It offered.
“No need.” She responded as she crushed it in her grip and let the pieces fall to the ground.
The alien made a kind of buzzing noise as it looked down at the crushed commlink.
“Now,” Penelope continued as she moved to a corner of the bridge, “you’re going to sit in this corner and do absolutely nothing because you know that if you try anything there is nowhere you can run that I cannot get to you, yes?”
It enthusiastically made its equivalent of a nod once again. Satisfied, Penelope set them down and turned to her security console. She readjusted its height to suit her and pulled up the corridor cameras and the cargo bay camera. What the little alien had said was true. The corridors were clear. There were three individuals with laser rifles and four more frames in the cargo bay. They’d gathered the crew back by the large bay door and were looking over the cargo.
“Ton’et, stay here and keep an eye on this one…,” she evaluated the situation, “and come over here. I think I have an idea you’ll like.
“Of course Ma’am.”
After explaining her little plan Penelope left Ton’et with the alien who, true to their word, made absolutely no movements save a little shaking. She made her way down the other corridor from the one they’d come through and overrode the locking mechanism on its airlock, ensuring no one would be joining the party… or leaving too early. Next, she went not to the door that led to the cargo bay but the engine room and its many maintenance tunnels.
---
Gareth had just met up with Deag and had begun to explain the situation when the pirate ship sent a warning signal and began boarding them. Docked as they were, there wasn’t much to be done to stop the vessel. They were quickly corralled together with the rest of the crew at the back of the cargo bay.
“Now I’m not sure if this is your first time but we’re not barbarians. Well take what we want, and you’ll be on your way. No harm done. Simple as that.” The leader explained to them. He was a sort of bright yellow and red insectoid, though it was hard to tell under the habsuit. He was just a hair taller than Gareth and sported bug-like wings from his back that the suit accounted for.
Gareth wanted nothing more than to yell, “I told you so!” but he would never admonish the captain in front of the crew. Besides, he had more pressing matters to think about. Like how to handle the fact that Penelope was currently on board the derelict ship seemingly with no idea they’d been boarded by pirates. He wasn’t sure what to do and couldn’t exactly discuss it with the captain lest their captors hear them. The captain was no doubt in the same position as he looked to Gareth. Unfortunately, neither of them were telepathic.
He could attempt to scare the pirates by telling them about Penelope but then they might be able to disengage the airlock and trap her and Ton’et on the other ship. That would not do at all, and they’d probably think he was just bluffing until they sliced the ships’ computers and saw proof of her identity. That said he was fairly sure that none of these pirates were fond of violence. Most just used the threat of it to get valuables and leave. It was mostly a calm affair compared to what he knew of ancient human piracy. He decided the best thing to do was just talk but not mention Penelope. He was good at talking and a better sense of these pirates would serve well.
“So, what happened exactly. I’m curious. We found three wearing similar habsuits to yours on that ship.”
“A question for a question. I answer that one and then ask one of my own. Fair?” the leader’s wings buzzed.
Gareth looked to Deag who just nodded, “Fine.”
“We found that ship not long before you, knew it was just us in the system so we checked it out. Sent the three over and then… nothing. Dead coms, life signs gone. Weren’t about to just give up on it and it presented us with an opportunity. We wait for another to check it out and either they go the same way as ours did in there and we loot their ship, or they figure out whatever happened for us and we take everything.”
“Ahh, so a trap. Just not one set by you.”
“I suppose. But now my question. You are alive so you managed to survive whatever was on the ship. What was it? What killed my people?”
Before he could respond, though, a familiar voice came over the ship’s intercom.
Ton’et!?
“Hello pirates. This is… um well I suppose my name doesn’t really matter… well I’m here to give you a threat? Message? Kind of a request too to be honest. All three, yes… Anyway. Put down your weapons and surrender to the captain. That would be Captain Deag… The Corvul… oh gosh I’m really no good at this. Uhm, just surrender or else you’ll regret it cause our security officer Penelope is going to… do something that I’m of course not going to reveal to you. But its… bad, so you should really surrender. Ton’et out.” The intercom cut out abruptly.
“…What?” The pirate leader looked more confused than anything.
“They’re a scientist, not an orator. But you really should consider surrender because if Ton’et is on the bridge then Penelope must already be on her way here. You see what we found was an anti-personnel turret. A human weapons platform. We were able to deactivate it thanks to our new security officer. A human who, if I had to guess, is about to burst through one of those doors.”
The pirate leader wheeled around and aimed his rifle at one of the doors.
“Cover the doors!” he yelled.
The other two aliens and the four frames took aim at the two points of entry. The high pitched whine of charging laser weapons sounded from all of them.
“Keep aim. We know where its coming from and no personal shield could hold up under all our fire.”
They held but nothing happened. Gareth broke the silence.
“You know captain. There’s another human phrase I think you’d like. I think even a human would call you bat shit crazy sometimes. You know you really should look up some of those terms. Having Penelope hanging around.”
“I suppose I should?” Deag responded with a quizzical look.
“Silence you two!” the pirate said without averting his gaze from the doors.
“You really aught to LOOK them UP captain…” he repeated emphasizing the two words.
The captain suddenly understood what Gareth was trying to tell him and, as covertly as possible, glanced up to the ceiling of the cargo bay. Immediately his eyes shot back down as he witnessed perhaps the most terrifying sight of his life.
Even in the greys of his vision he could see, hanging from the crane attached to the tall ceiling of the cargo bay, their security officer. Penelope had apparently accessed one of the maintenance tunnels that Thwilll most often used and followed it to a hatch that let out in the ceiling. She had then, silently, swung her way across the support structure to the crane system that was used to move especially heavy cargo. Now, she hung from it with one arm as she gazed down at the unsuspecting pirates. All of whom were still solely focused on the doors.
“So that’s a no to the surrender?” Deag asked.
“Silence!” the bug yelled.
The final part of Penelope’s plan became apparent when everyone in the cargo bay was suddenly forced down into the floor. The bay’s gravity had just been jacked up to its maximum.
“AGH!” one of the pirates yelled as they were completely pinned to the ground.
A similar sound came from many as they all struggled against the force. The leader and the other alien managed to stay vertical but were clearly struggling to move. Even the frames struggled somewhat, clearly not built by a species that worked under such gravity.
Deag looked up with disbelief to see Penelope seemingly unaffected, still holding on to the crane with a single hand. She evaluated the situation for only a moment before simply letting go. Her massive form careened downward, taken quickly by gravity.
SLAM!
The resounding sound came as she landed on the floor. Her legs bent as they absorbed the impact. Rising to her full height she moved with incredible speed. Her hands shot out and grasped the two frames she’d landed between. With a twist of her torso and extension of her arms, she threw them into opposite walls. Still working off the shock, Penelope managed to surge forward and crush another frame under her foot. Its shell shattered as she put her full weight atop it.
Finally, the shock seemed to wear off and the pirates began to react. They moved sluggishly, though, their rifles more than doubling in weight. The leader attempted to take flight, but his wings did little more than buzz incessantly, not even lifting him from the ground. Penelope, however, moved with ease. Gareth could almost see relief in her eyes as she enjoyed the time under earth-like gravity. She dispatched the final frame without much of a show, simply reaching down and crushing its cylindrical head in her hand.
The leader gave up trying to take flight and the only other pirate not pinned to the ground managed to levy their rifle at Penelope who made no attempt to avoid it or take cover. The hot beam shot out and struck her center mass. Elation and then terror came over them as they celebrated striking the human only to see the sustained beam was having little effect. Penelope held its gaze as she calmly waltzed forward, ripped the rifle from the aliens’ hand, and snapped it in half over her knee. Tossing the two pieces to the ground she just palmed the alien’s face and sent them to join their broken toy.
With that she turned to the leader to see something that changed her demeanor entirely. The leader had aimed his rifle, but not at her. Instead, the emitter was pointed at Captain Deag. A storm came over her face.
“Stop, or he dies…” the leader warned.
“Now, now. We were playing by a certain set of rules, and I was happy to do so. You left them out of it, and I didn’t kill any of you. That was fine by me. But you’re about to change those rules,” her hand slowly lowered to the pistol that had remained unused at her side, “and I will play by them.”
“You’d risk his life to take mine?” the bug asked.
“Nope. Charge time on those rifles seems to be just over a second. That plus your piss poor reaction time and I’m fairly certain I could get off two, maybe three, shots before you fire. That’s one to disarm you, one to put you down, and one more just to be sure.”
The bug found only cold certainty in Penelope’s eyes as he tried to discern whether she was lying or not. He struggled to keep the weapon steady.
The rest of the bay was silent.
“You’re bluffing.” He said but wilted under her intense gaze.
“The question isn’t whether or not I’m bluffing. The real question is whether or not you’re willing to bet your life on that gamble. I wouldn’t.”
He felt so small under her gaze. His instincts screamed at him that this was no creature to trifle with. Those eyes burned into him and yet he felt nothing but a freezing sensation in his gut.
Don’t do it.
The rifle dropped to the ground with a thud.
Good choice.

2023.06.06 05:01 Sen_Btiller Sanctuary 1st experience and reviews

Sanctuary 1st experience and reviews
My review of sanctuary and its offerings that I selected. is a soild 5/10. for the price it's hard to justify hopefully they will keep up good sales and improve thier products. didn't have any live concentrates or rosin at the time of my vist for me to try was told by the tender that they are coming soon. All in all if its on a good sale take the gamble hopefully you get a good batch.
Sanctuary: Beach Budz top cut whole flower indica first impressions 6/10
Nose: kinda muted kinda green smelling nothing to write home about. After breaking it down it brightened up a bit some citrus a bit of funk but kinda underwhelming.
Looks: first thing i noticeed is some tight bud structures and a nice dusting of trichromes some orange hairs peaking out.
Flavor: harsh right off the 1st bowl then it leads to a somewhat creamy kinda gasy exhale but -between coughing I can taste maybe some fruit but very harsh.
High/legs: after forcing myself to finish the bowl i had a decent head buzz and my body was beginning to feel less tense and a tiny bit buzzy. legs could longer lasted about 45 minutes before i started to feel the head high start to wear off. Overall: 3/10 wouldn't buy again.
Sanctuary: Blueberry headband top cut whole flower hybrid first impressions 5/10
Nose:upon opening the jar its not very bright very muted smell, some slight hints of berry and haze but muted. When I ground it up definitely took on more of a nose very bright tart Blueberry with a skunky haze undertones.
Looks: same tight bud structure as the beach budz my eighth was 2 nugs one huge one coming in at 3.34grams and one tiny nug to complete the eighth. buds are very dense and tight with a rich green color some orange hairs peaking through with less trichromes than the beach budz
Flavor: berry sweetness upfront with a nice hazey finish not as harsh as the beach budz but still not the smoothest
High/legs: nice head high with that classic headband feel, focused and not too floaty. Could've fooled me for Lt.Dan, high was as long as the grass in a HOA neighborhood.
Overall: 4/10 Flavor was the only thing saving this one.
Sanctuary: Extraterrestrial Bananas top cut whole flower hybrid first impressions 6/10
Nose: smells of unripe green bananas and hay/ grass (earthy?) Gets alot more funky and fruity when ground up not nearly as much grass smell when ground.
Looks: a thick coating of orange hairs with dark green patches coming through with a light frosting of trichromes tight dense bud structure.
Flavor: very muted no green banana comes through sadly some musty funkiness but nothing wild in terms of fruit not as harsh as the beach budz but still not the smoothest.
High/legs: nice head change after a rip that moves down in a heaviness in my chest then arms and legs with a calm euphoria rounding out the experience this one had the longest legs of the three but still not what i was expecting for a $60 eighth of thier "top shelf" flower lasted maybe an hour if that.
Overall: 5/10 if i could grab this on a crazy sale i would but seems the ticket is too high on this in my personal opinion.
Afterthoughts: if asking questions about products and wanting suggestions is something you're interested in they did not have any recommendations for me when I was shopping kept saying the sale items are good and seemed to forget it was my 1st visit multiple times throughout the interaction my entire experience in sanctuary too roughly 30 mins from getting a profile built to asking about terp %s and suggestions there was no one ahead of me in line but there was a line forming shortly after I arrived.

2023.06.06 03:47 therooster42069 Think I got hired because of my receding hairline lmaoo

So last week I got hired for an internship that I didn’t think I was going to be able to get. By talking to the other interns today, it’s pretty obvious that I have the weakest resume of the bunch. But some how I got probably the best internship the company is offering. The dude I am working under is slick bald. I truly believe that this guy saw me rocking a buzz cut wit a pretty bad hairline in my second interview and was like wow this dude does not give a rats ass. Then today on my first day he straight up told me he likes my haircut which genuinely made me happy cus I don’t get that a lot. Just wanted to share this with y’all to remind you guys that this balding shit isn’t so bad, and can actually make you more likable to the right person. Does anyone else have a story like this?

2023.06.06 02:53 Hefty_Fix_8416 Into the Fire #39: Fear

A camera pans through P.U.R.E then it pans to Mark Steel's loss to Michael Menzies. Finally the Into the Fire room appears and its a different scene than usual. The fire already is up and Mark is pacing inside of it. He sees the camera and sits looking at it. The fire reflects in his eyes as he begins to form words..
MS: Ape is champion now. Junior revolution is kicking off. Too much is happening. Way too much.. What the fuck am I supposed to do. I cant start over. This is the only thing I fucking know. Sometimes I feel like all I ever do is find a new way to lose to the same old rivals. Ever since I beat a guy named Brian Hill I've been told I was great. But everytime DTJ was successful and I hyped them up. Yet im using them and its time to point a finger at me?
Mark laughs before continuing..
MS: They keep saying im way to soft. How I act just like Jaeger and Brian in my promos. Thats why the bets are off. You see though I train even on my off days. Im right here putting in the work while everyone is off base. I live life like tomorrow aint guaranteed so I live it today. Why wait? I keep working its too late. Heard it all.
Mark looks at a picture of OG JEM as he continues..
MS: Betrayed, Cut ties, It was the first time, First Take. Back then the worst case was supposed to be going separate ways. But now Blitz is my home, my stage, my place, Less Erick, more Epps, More Misery, More Hunter, More names? Ape, Inferno, Logan Wright. My list, my names, my picks, my inspiration.
Mark smirks before continuing..
MS: My fate in my own hands. Hand it over to anyone else? No chance. I wanna get the job done right? With Y.A.K I did it myself. Oh damn! I am what these kids wanna be. Who the Juniors dont wanna see. Im the big man. Got a problem with me bring it in the ring then! Iconic. Who else wants it. Heard Holm was looking the smoke huh? Catch me on a bad day and you find me fine dining. Flying private.
Mark tosses a few 100 dollars bills into the fire before continuing..
MS: These are a couple things I can easily afford to do. A couple things these Juniors can only dream about. You might read about it. Hear about it. Think about it. Dream about it. My point is what I do for a living isn't something you are taught. You either got it or you dont got it. Me beating Brian Hill says I got it. But Bengt Holm dont got it.
Mark smirk grows more noticeable as he continues..
Im the captain and you in coach flying. Im the lead roll while Brian's in the background! Im the star player while Mike is the mascot. Im the future while Travis Crowley is the past, Old timer. Im the CEO and Y.A.K is the customer. Im the front man and the manager of DTJ! Im the creator, Im the director. Im the shot caller, The show stopper. Im the real one. Michael is just a fake knockoff!
Mark laughs and then continues listing things..
MS: Your the jaw dropper. Im the headliner. Your the top Junior. Im the head honcho. Your a eyecatcher? Michael thats a real stunner. New topic? You got it. I love watching. Lames try to keep stars like me in the dark just cause they afraid of us. Funny how they all swapped up quick when the name was buzzing. Funny how they all wanna hop on board when they see the wave coming. Funny how noone wanted to team with the JEM members now they hitting me up saying we should make a faction of something.
Mark smirk fades as he continues..
MS: Nah we aint doing nothing. DTJ got its own thing going. Thats the way I like it. Too many cooks in the kitchen aint a problem I gotta worry bout. Former Tag champions from 2 different factions. Man to each their own but thats a little wild. Blue, Steez I respect yall but I already got enough people in my business I dont another hand dipping in the pot.
Mark looks directly at the camera as he looks for a few more words..
MS: I dont need a legend showing me the ropes. I dont need management telling me how to do my job. I dont need to hear that im dope. I dont need to hear about switching my style. I dont need people laughing in my face trying to cut a fucking joke. I dont need people faking trying to crack some smiles. I dont need the fans telling me its been awhile. I dont need Ark breathing down my neck. I dont need people telling me my wrestling sucks. I dont need my name coming out Mike's fucking mouth. I dont need people using my name to get respect. I dont need a picture with Ape for some clout. I dont need Erick telling me anymore that he has some doubts.
Mark looks at the camera tears forming in his eyes..
MS: Shhh worry bout yourself. I dont need no more help. Whats your name? None of you juniors ever ring a bell. Everytime I look down and see a Juniors name on the phone I shake my head. Asking for some advice hoping I respond well? If you really knew me you would know the best way to get my help is in the ring and asking over phone is the quickest way to get to turn my back on you.
The fire goes out and the words "You cant always be someone else, Sometimes you just have to be yourself" appears in red letters. It disappears and then the camera pans to a bar. Mark is sitting drinking when his uncle walks up and sits next to him.
EB: Mark we need to talk.
MS: What now.
EB: Your father.. Hes in the hospital.
MS: What?
The camera fades the black and the video ends.

2023.06.06 01:50 JediJones77 My Full The Flash Review: Cleverly Gets Us Up to Speed on Flash's Backstory but is More Sugar Rush than Satisfying Journey

My Full The Flash Review: Cleverly Gets Us Up to Speed on Flash's Backstory but is More Sugar Rush than Satisfying Journey
This review is based on a free preview screening held in the U.S. on June 1st, 2023, two weeks before the movie's official opening date. Note that this screening did NOT include any credits or post-credits scenes, which I don't know if the final movie will have or not. The director's name came up after the final shot, and then the screen shut off. This review is spoiler-free, but does discuss plot points that are visible in the film's trailers. I may say things like a certain character had a lot of scenes or barely any scenes, so if that's too much information for you, don't read it. I DO NOT spoil the appearance of any character not seen in the trailers.
My review:
7 out of 10 or 3.5 stars out of 5 or B+
The Flash arrives in cinemas not with the urgency of a speeding bullet, but as one of the most long-awaited superhero origin movies in history. The character's comic book debut dates back to 1939, making him one of the founding fathers of the superhero genre. He's carried more than one TV series, from 1990 to the present day. He made his film debut played by Ezra Miller in a brief civilian-garbed cameo in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then in costume in 2017's Justice League. Now, after decades of stop-and-go development with too many director changes to count, Ezra's version of The Flash finally gets his name top-billed (if just barely) on the marquee in his own movie. The Flash's director is Andy Muschietti, joining his second big studio franchise after his 2017 and 2019 two-part adaptation of Stephen King's It.
The advance buzz for The Flash has broken the tradition of every new DC Comics movie being sold as "the best superhero movie since Dark Knight," by instead telling us that The Flash is "one of the best superhero movies ever made." That's a high bar to ask any superhero movie to live up to, and The Flash, as you might have predicted, doesn't live up to that billing. It can more realistically be described as the best DC Comics movie since 2018's Aquaman that takes place in the primary DC cinematic universe. The basic bare minimum that any superhero origin story has to do is to explain what the character's powers are, tell us how the character got them, and convince us that the character and his powers are interesting. The Flash succeeds at meeting that more realistic bar. This movie is a perfectly adequate introduction to this culturally significant comic book character for the world at large. Where the movie loses its focus and interest is with its effort to send Flash through a travelogue that traverses the multiverse in search of other super-powered characters for him to pal around with.
This movie was faced with a difficult challenge in telling Flash's origin, in that the character had already been introduced in the DC film series, with nary a word spoken about how he got his powers. The Flash's screenplay is ingenious in the way it tells his origin story without relying on the old cliche of the flashback sequence. It's no secret from the trailers that Flash employs his time travel powers in the movie, and ends up meeting a younger version of himself. Like most modern movies that deal with time travel, this one indulges in making Back to the Future references, some of which will be very funny the more you know about Back to the Future. The plot deals with the same absurd and fascinating situation explored in Back to the Future II, where two versions of the same character exist in the same place at the same time. This gives Flash another character with less knowledge than himself, who he has a good reason to explain things to, much like Doc Brown explains things to Marty in Back to the Future. This device allows the audience to learn everything we need to know about the Flash's origins and powers in an organic way that feels active, natural and spontaneous. Audiences who have little prior knowledge of The Flash will likely be surprised at a lot of the things he can do, but they'll also understand why he can do them with ease thanks to the movie's clever storytelling.
Chemistry in movies is an elusive concept to define. Sometimes two actors who weren't even on set at the same time can have their dialogue edited together later and still appear to have "chemistry." This can be seen in Ralph Macchio's and Pat Morita's screen tests for the Karate Kid, which were shot separately but edited together by the director and posted on YouTube. That dynamic is certainly on display with Ezra Miller's performance(s) in The Flash. The chemistry between the two Flashes is as vibrant and electric as the special effects seen when Flash runs at full speed. Ezra deftly plays the two versions of the Flash in subtly different ways, which helps draw human comedy out of the old, reliable "odd couple" concept. The movie is nothing if not full of in-jokes, and at one point there even seems to be one made at Ezra's expense, based on the actor's recent court trial. I'm not sure what the timing was of when that scene was filmed, and whether it's art imitating life or the other way around. The scenes with the two Flashes seem to be very accessible to the general audience, but this in-joke is one sign of how the movie is often geared towards rewarding the most ardent fans and followers with "Easter egg" moments.
While Flash is ostensibly being graced with his first solo starring movie role here, that didn't stop the studio from deciding that not one, but two Batmen will appear with him in it, Michael Keaton's and Ben Affleck's. And a female version of Superman. And a Superman villain who's crossing over from another movie. And maybe some other surprise guest appearances. It's hard to explain why Warner Brothers felt the need to take this approach with Flash, when the recent film debuts for Wonder Woman and Aquaman were so successful without using any major crossover gimmicks. Perhaps the greatest casualty of this heavy focus on other superheroes is Flash's love interest, Iris West, played by the charmingly baby-faced Kiersey Clemons. She has great chemistry with Ezra herself, but she barely appears in the movie. This is a character who is likely to be a lot more important to Flash's future than these other superheroes, but she barely gets an introduction here. As we've seen all too often in this genre, crossovers with other superheroes always spell doom for the lead character's civilian supporting cast. The other problem with this approach is that these guest stars and cameos never come off as more than the aforementioned gimmicks. The guest stars deliver their famous catchphrases, show off their well-known costumes, powers and gear, and offer a little bit of obligatory dialogue to explain what they've been doing since we last saw them. But they don't get any real character development or satisfying beginnings, middles and ends to their stories.
Several newer Batman movies have shown us that they can go a lot deeper psychologically than the original Michael Keaton Batman movies did. But no added depth has been given to Keaton's version of Batman here. The filmmakers seem content to rely on a few nostalgic references. Keaton has become a more interesting actor in recent years too, but he isn't given any new angle on the character to explore in this performance. Even his aging is barely acknowledged. Keaton has certainly aged well, still fits the suit perfectly, and can pull off his action scenes convincingly. But this movie doesn't give him much to do beyond the action, short of a few cliched speeches about his parents' deaths with the requisite violins playing on the soundtrack. All this movie really does for Keaton's Batman is whet our appetite to see his character explored in more depth in a potential future Batman sequel. I'm sure Keaton has the potential to do much more with the character than the material allowed him to here.
Other, more modern DC characters and actors also show up, to varying degrees of effectiveness. One of those is Ben Affleck's Batman, who, in a briefer appearance than Keaton's, manages to deliver more meaningful and memorable dialogue in this movie than his 1989 predecessor does. The big action scene with Affleck's Batman and the Flash isn't disappointing either. It more than adequately fulfills the promise of a DC cinematic universe centered around the Justice League that director Zack Snyder, the former top architect of DC's film universe, made to us in his movies several years ago. This fast, elaborate, exciting and very expensive-looking sequence set in a bustling cityscape exists as an almost separate entity from the rest of the movie, much like the classic James Bond prologues, and it almost steals the show from the rest of the movie, much like the classic Indiana Jones prologues. It must be said, however, that almost all of the Batman action in this movie loses some of the character's mystique by taking place more or less in broad daylight, rather than during the Dark Knight's signature territory of the night.
If crossing over with the Batman bible wasn't enough, The Flash is just as eager to dip its toes into Superman's world. But, this time, it's without any real appearance by the big blue boy himself. Instead, the first movie version in almost 30 years of Superman's famous cousin, Supergirl, takes center stage. This version of Supergirl abandons the traditional blonde hair and red skirt that she's worn since her first comic book appearance in 1959 for short, dark hair and the same full-length tights that Henry Cavill's Man of Steel sported. She's played by Sasha Calle, an actress of Colombian descent. Supergirl continues the increasingly tiresome tradition of new DC characters being introduced in movies with a "to be determined" note attached to their origin story. She seems to be in the middle of her story when she enters in the middle of this movie to help the other heroes battle Michael Shannon's General Zod, reprising his role from 2013's Man of Steel. Yes, Zod died in that movie, but time travel, multiverse, Back to the Future, etc., etc. Sasha's performance is lacking a certain warmth or charm. Supergirl acts less like a middle American-bred human being, and more like one of the cold Kryptonians that accompany General Zod and speak with vague foreign accents. Whatever character development she has is handled in an extremely abbreviated and perfunctory way, much like what Keaton's Batman suffers in this movie. As for General Zod, I'm frankly surprised to learn they called back Michael Shannon to film new scenes. Everything here looks like it could've been pieced together from old Man of Steel footage and some CGI. Absolutely nothing new is explored with his character. He's nothing more than a prop in someone else's story, which leaves this movie feeling deprived in the villain department. The Flash eventually finds its own way to make a compelling point about good and evil, but it doesn't give us the kind of strong, new villain character that most of the major DC origin movies have.
Andy Muschietti's direction, particularly in terms of his visual style, isn't always as polished as you would expect from a big-budget special effects movie. If you didn't already know he was coming fresh from independent and lower-budget films that often make use of a surrealist style, you might be able to deduce it from watching The Flash. Half the time, the special effects here are not trying to create a convincing, lifelike world, the way movies like Avatar do. They often seem more expressionistic and, yes, surreal. The movie has tried to find its own way of portraying time travel and the multiverse that hasn't been done before. But I wasn't really sold on this being a good way to do it. And the battle scenes that this movie imports from Man of Steel made me feel more like I was playing a video game than like I was watching Man of Steel again. To be fair, the studio has been saying that the advance version I saw was not the final cut, although it's a mere two weeks prior to the official release date. There may be a fine line between surrealism and unfinished special effects. All I can say is that what the special effects lack in polish, they seem to be trying to make up for with style, but not in as consistently effective a way as I would have liked to have seen.
What holds the movie back the most from being as good as Dark Knight, or from being one of the best superhero movies ever, is the too often facile nature of Hollywood wunderkind Christina Hodson's screenplay. Major characters like Keaton's Batman, Calle's Supergirl and Shannon's Zod are dealt with in a very simplified and superficial manner. The Flash himself is given great texture through Ezra's skillful and inspired acting, but even some of his character's big moments seem to come out of nowhere, without the story having laid the necessary groundwork and connective tissue to support them. The overwhelming feeling generated by The Flash is that the movie is extremely eager to jump from "money shot" to "classic one-liner" to "heartfelt dialogue" without providing the necessary investment in proper storytelling to earn all of those moments. I can't help but get the feeling from the reported last-minute editing the movie is going through that the filmmakers are struggling to figure out why the movie isn't paying off quite as strongly with audiences as they had hoped. All of the big moments that audiences are supposed to love are there, after all, aren't they? But a movie can't just aim for non-stop entertainment. It can't be all payoff and no setup. A proper story needs to pace itself, to take the time to develop, breathe and grow. A fulfilling meal can't be just a series of sugar highs. It also has to have some fundamental nutritional value. The Flash races from one dazzling excitement to another at the speed of light, but it ends up leaving the viewer almost as starved for calories as they were when the movie started.

2023.06.06 01:48 GodOfVapes Initial impressions of Tiger's new disposables

I have to preface this with I'm not really a cart or disposable guy. Of course I've used and bought them over the years though. Who hasn't? But being the vape tech enthusiast I am I had to hook up with my man Tiger to try out his new disposables being American made. I've only previously used Chinese.
I have to say I'm quite impressed. The liquid diamonds are strong as hell. I smoked a couple of blunts after work so I had a bit of a buzz when I ripped into it and the dozen or so hits I took cut through my previous buzz. He offers four flavors currently but I'm more a weed flavored weed guy so I went with Wedding Cake which is straight weed. Not bad there. The disposable unit seems very high quality. I'll follow up with something more in depth later but the buzz it provided prompted this. He also gave me a 100mg sample of his THC powder but I don't know when I'll give that one a try. It was more the new vape that got me excited. LOL
