2023.03.26 13:56 dlivetvtr TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew's Congress showdown: Five takeaways

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew's Congress showdown: Five takeaways

By James Clayton
BBC North America technology reporter
Bruising, damaging, relentless. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew faced four-and-a-half hours of questioning at a US congressional hearing on Thursday.

As one congressman pointed out, some people run marathons quicker than that.

Mr Chew will certainly be feeling it, after a torrid time giving evidence. Many tech execs have stood before Congress, and they often don't get an easy ride.

But what was exceptional about this hearing was the stubborn, never-ending line of vicious questioning.

Who is TikTok chief Shou Zi Chew?
How a TikTok ban would - or wouldn't - work in practice
TikTok ban: What could it mean for creators?
From both Democrats and Republicans, there was no let-up. A spokesperson for TikTok said afterwards the politicians were "grandstanding". There is most certainly some truth to that. But between the sometimes frustratingly verbose questioning, we did learn a thing or two.

Legislators were united against TikTok
There was criticism of TikTok from Republicans and Democrats, and the level of distrust and scepticism from all sides was stark.
"Welcome to the most bipartisan committee in Congress," said Republican congressman Buddy Carter.

Media caption,
Committee chair to TikTok CEO: 'We aren't buying it'

"Thank you, Mr Chew, for bringing Republicans and Democrats together," said Dan Crenshaw, a Republican.

It was really quite something to see so many politicians - who agree on practically nothing - agreeing wholeheartedly that TikTok was a security threat.

TikTok complained afterwards that not enough time had been spent focusing on the platform's measures to keep data safe.

"Also not mentioned today by members of the committee: the livelihoods of the five million businesses on TikTok or the [US Constitution] First Amendment implications of banning a platform loved by 150 million Americans," a TikTok spokesperson said.

ByteDance engineers in China have access to some US data
Mr Chew kept talking about a "Project Texas", a proposal which will see it store all data in the US under the watch of American firm Oracle.
However, Project Texas is not fully operational. As of now, Mr Chew confirmed that engineers at ByteDance - TikTok's parent company - do have access to data.

"We rely on global interoperability, Chinese engineers have access to data," he said.

It was an admission that politicians kept coming back to. Their point was that if data can be accessed by engineers in China, it's hard to see how the Chinese government couldn't also access it.

On Friday, China's foreign ministry repeated its claim that it does not ask companies to provide data or intelligence located in other countries.

Chew has shares in ByteDance
Perhaps Mr Chew's least successful defence was his attempt to distance TikTok from ByteDance.
By any definition, the Chinese company owns TikTok. Mr Chew himself used to be ByteDance's chief financial officer.

When initially asked, Mr Chew didn't want to say whether he owned shares in ByteDance. Pressed by lawmakers, he eventually said he did, but tried to downplay the connection.

China's government says it would oppose any US plan to force ByteDance to sell TikTok - something authorities are reportedly considering.

Chew's children do not use TikTok
At one point in the hearing, Mr Chew was asked by congresswoman Nanette Barragán, a Democrat, whether or not his own children used TikTok.
He said they didn't because they live in Singapore. In that country the version of the app for children younger than 13 is not available.

Media caption,
TikTok CEO tells Congress: '150 million Americans love our app'

Mr Chew did clarify that the children's version of the app is available in the US, and he would let his children use it if they were in America.

What about Cambridge Analytica?
Mr Chew generally pulled his punches. He didn't often take the fight back to members of Congress. But there were rare moments where he did push back - and effectively.

The End

When quizzed on TikTok's use of user data, he said: "With all due respect, American companies don't have a great track record with data … Just look at Facebook and Cambridge Analytica."

It was a barbed comment, but a reasonable point to make.

Harvesting of Facebook users' personal information by Cambridge Analytica, a British political consultancy, and other third-party apps caused uproar when it emerged in 2018.

2023.03.26 13:55 BosSF82 When did this sub turn into r/Cryptocurrency?

It’s just like an endless torrent of fluff copium now, meant to emotionally prop up put holders, who post the same narratives over and over, very few actual position posts related to bets or analysis of individual securities are even making the front page now.
What is the difference between a sub full of “cryptocurrency is inevitable because banks touch themselves at night!” vs. “the collapse of the financial sector is inevitable because JPowell touches banks at night!”
All fluff, too much of it. Can the non stop prepper macro-analysis.

2023.03.26 13:54 cfs_kenshin Space, and village-planning in Dreamlight Valley

This started off as a response to a comment, but I realized I didn't want to come off as dumping on the commenter. So I decided that it was better suited to a new post. I'm gonna start on what appears to be a tangent, but it's relevant, I promise.
IRL, I watch a lot of YouTube channels discussing the problems the US faces that are caused by low-density housing, urban sprawl, and car-dependent regional-planning. (Strong Towns, CityNerd, City Beautiful, Not Just Bikes, RMTransit, and this great video by Climate Town)
It's resulted in a lot of cookie-cutter neighborhoods throughout the US that look ugly, and make their regions financially insolvent due to unbearable maintenance costs. NIMBYism campaigns by their residents lead to local governments deciding not to fix problems, and has led to a nationwide housing crisis. This is a GROSS oversimplification of a very complex and nuanced topic, and I'm not looking to start a political argument here.
While none of the political or ecological forces discussed in those videos really apply much to the channel - I'm recognizing that my fellow redditors are also planning their valleys with the mindset of desiring low-density, single-family homes that all "look good" together, with each home on a large plot of land (a.k.a. the "American Dream") This mentality, which has permeated post-WW2 US society (and is communicated globally through US pop-culture), is bleeding is over into Dreamlight Valley.
I'm bothered by the negativity that people have towards Woody's Carousel home. As someone who temporarily lived in an RV for the better part of a year while searching for permanent housing after moving across country, I'm offended by the elitist comments against the appearance Buzz's RV "ruining" their villages. Living in a real world where desperately needed multi-family homes to address housing crises are prevented from being built in communities because it would "ruin the local aesthetic / charm" and "hurt property values", it pains me to see these attitudes reflected in negative comments by people complaining about the potential addition of high-rise housing coming with the apartment building from Wreck-It Ralph.
Diversity in housing is beautiful, and interesting. It offers opportunities for people for find unique solutions to tie multiple visually distinct structures together with landscaping, paths, and fun public areas throughout their biomes.
So many people post that they can't figure out how to decorate their valley, or that they've hit item limits. It's because we're still in Early Access, and there are not enough houses yet to fill up the space. So people make grand estates and max out their item limits filling up one biome - because there's too much empty space. So many people post and comment about how they're out of space and there's no room for upcoming houses, so they want more biomes.
I'm not against adding additional biomes to the game, but there's already an insane amount of real-estate in Dreamlight Valley, and only a few houses currently available in Dreamlight Valley to fill it up. There's an achievement/trophy/Dreamlight Task for repairing 30 villager homes, and we currently only have 12. That means there are plans for at least 18 more houses coming to our villages. Once there are 30 -40 houses in the valley it'll be a much smaller task to decorate, and the restrictions / limitations will help remove the creative paralysis that too much freedom of choice causes for many players.
I'm HUGELY in favor of great parks, walkable city centers, and fun third places, in the real world, and also in Dreamlight Valley. Parks full of fountains and shrubs, cool beach areas, bars, ski resorts with saunas and igloos all provide unique charm and character to the valley - they can and should be part of people's design toolbox.
Sorry if this is a lot, and a bit heavy for a cozy game like Dreamlight Valley. I just had to get this all off my chest. Let's keep the discussion focused on Dreamlight Valley design and steer clear of the real world politics I mentioned, as they are better suited for other areas of Reddit.
Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Hello, I have read the rules and have a question for those who use password managers. I'd like to start using one, thinking of KeePassXC, but i can't get over the feeling of worrying about losing my passwords.
Let's say I use a password manager and need to login to a site that has a lot of info and money put into it, as in Steam, emails, content creation sites and my bank etc. What if something happens to the vault? What if the file get corrupted or i lose a backup etc.

2023.03.26 13:53 Prestigious-Owl-6397 Philadelphia is building a trail connection that would make it safer for South Philly residents to commute to Center City

https://www.inquirer.com/news/philadelphia-schuylkill-river-trail-banks--20220719.html
I'm not usually a huge fan of building trails purely for recreation with no thought to connect commercial and residential areas, but this trail looks like it will do that. The places to get you to and from the trail could definitely be improved, and the bike lane going over the Passayunk Bridge, as mentioned in the article, could also improve a lot because it's just a narrow gutter next to fairly high speed traffic, but this is a step. I commute in the direction of Center City from southwest Philly about 6 days a week, and this would help me avoid cars for a significant portion of the trip.

2023.03.26 13:50 TaskSignificant4171 How to tell my friend I don’t want to be a bridesmaid in her wedding?

I (28F) met this girl (27F) at work a few months ago. I would say we’ve become good friends, hung out maybe a dozen times outside of work. I moved here from another state so I don’t know anyone, but this is her hometown so she still hangs out with a lot of her friends from high school. She got engaged a few months ago, and the next time we hung out she very casually asked if I wanted to be a bridesmaid. I said “of course!”. Over the next few weeks she was pretty busy so I didn’t really get to see her or talk to her. I did see on Instagram she was asking her other friends to be bridesmaids with one of those cute gifts with the “will you be my bridesmaid?” on it. She had never given me one of those. Then when it was my birthday I didn’t hear from her until late that night after I was already asleep, and when we hung out the next week to celebrate my birthday, she didn’t get me a gift either (I got one for her birthday a few months ago). Not gonna lie those two situations kinda hurt and made me start rethinking being a bridesmaid if she doesn’t care to formally ask me like she did with her other friends. I’ve also been second guessing it due to the financial commitment. She wants a big wedding, she wants to go to Las Vegas for a bachelorette party, she wants a big wedding shower. I know just being in this wedding is going to cost like $4-5k. I have credit card debt that I’m on track to pay off by the same time as her wedding, also my lease will be up at that time so I’ll need some money in the bank to be able to move. I’m wondering if there is a way to tell her I can’t be a bridesmaid due to the financial commitment? Or should I just suck it up? I don’t want to take on more debt to do all the things she is expecting, but I do want to be there for her special day. We also had a conversation about our salaries once and found out I make $15k more than her, however my parents do not help me out like they help her so I actually need that money to pay off my bills and debts. Any advice would be appreciated!

2023.03.26 13:32 puzzled_banana Expat friends suddenly leaving and I hit a new low

Hi expats,
I’m an expat from South America, and I’ve been living in the UK since September 2021. I just wanted to share a little bit about my experience here so far.
Making friends has been tough, but I’ve managed to meet some wonderful people and make some friends with other expats from different LatAm countries. However, lately, the weather has been really getting me down. In fact, my therapist is even suggesting that I consider medication.
But on Friday, my partner (who is also a latino expat) messaged one of our expat friends. This friend told us that he and his wife had just returned from their vacations but that they’re moving to Australia next week as he got a new job and he was required to be there asap.
This friend invited my partner and I to his flat yesterday, and the four of us spent all afternoon cooking and talking. The wife confided in me that she couldn't wait to leave because the weather has been affecting her really badly too, and that’s why they’ve been on holidays since December. She told me that she wanted to talk to me because she knew I’d understand as her husband (like my partner) is not affected by the UK weather and does not empathize with her.
At night, the four of us went to a Latin party and had a really good time. But today, the reality that they’re leaving hit me, and I’ve been crying and feeling really sad since I woke up. I’m happy for them, but also there’s a part of me that feels abandoned, lonely, and wonders if making friends is even worth it when the reality is that most likely we will never see each other again.
I’m not sure why I’m feeling so affected by this, but for the past two weeks, I noticed a marked worsening of my mood for no apparent reason.
I guess I just wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else has gone through something similar. It's tough being an expat, and sometimes it can be lonely, but I'm glad that I've made some friends here. If anyone has any advice on how to deal with the sadness of friends leaving, I'd be really grateful to hear it.
Thanks for reading.

2023.03.26 13:29 AbhiFT [REQUEST][STEAM] Gift card of $36 or £29.90 for MS Flight Simulator 2020 [FOURTH ATTEMPT]

This is my fourth try still asking for a GiftCard amounting to the same sale price of the game. I know copy paste is not appreciated here for re-attempts, but last time I really worked hard on the poem for three days (I Know the poem sucks) and people seemed displeased with it. Further I really don't have anymore to say. I have seen some old posts where this game was asked by people but was never gifted once, but some other games here are gifted again and again. I really don't know why this game doesn't get any love, but I would really appreciate you for gifting this to me. And I will one day pay you in some way or another.
What is MS Flight Simulator 2020 about?
Game (40th AE is the base game): MS Flight Simulator 40th Base Edition
Microsoft has a long history with Flight Simulators. Their first Flight simulator was released in 1982. While the previous games were fun, the new MS Flight Simulator does something incredible which no other game has ever done: It simulates the topography of the entire Earth as accurate as possible to real world through satellite data of Bing/Google maps along with Cloud Computing to generate better visuals and real data for air traffic and weather. Moreover, it also takes real wind and real-world time into consideration.
The game also has an active community-driven add-ons that only makes the game even more realistic and grander. If any game has the biggest world map of all, this is it. This game has the world map almost as big as the Earth itself. You can visit many of the world-famous attractions like Eiffel Tower, The Taj Mahal and even football stadiums! But you can also explore some famous landscapes as well, and if you fly low enough, you can experience some wildlife too. The game features Geese, Seagulls, Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, Elephants, Giraffes, Flamingos. You can experience the beautiful endless sea, but make sure you have enough fuel; You surely don't want to end up like Chuck Noland, and to make matters worse, you won't have your trustee, Wilson!
Microsoft Flight Simulator features 25 handcrafted airports, 4 classic commercial airports, 14 heliports and 15 glider airports. There are over 37,000 total airports in the game along with 37 airplanes, gliders, and helicopters with unique flight models, the likes of A320 Neo, Boeing 747, Cessna, DA62, and the cutest CTLS and A5, with detailed interiors of the cockpit. Isn't that the ultimate definition of simulation?
Why I want it:
I love exploring the world, something I am not financially able to do in real world. Every Time I watch something on TV, it's 90% of the time travel channels. The first time I tried Flight Simulator on my friend's PC, I fell in love with it. What I love about MSFS is the grand scale of the game. While in games like ETS 2 even a 4,000 KM journey can be completed in 3-4 hours, with MSFS, it would take real world time. For example, it takes ~1h 15m non-stop flight from Paris to London (Average), so it would also take almost the same amount of time in the game too (that is real world 1h 15m). Even staying in the cloudy sky is so much fun with sunlight shining, thunder and rain. I love playing simulation, tycoon games as they are the pinnacle of freedom in gaming world with no bounds. I remember when I played Flight simulator 2000 back in 2003 and wondered, what a shitty game. Seriously, at that time I thought who would play this game with 65% of the screen occupied by the cockpit? And here I am today.
What I love about the FS 2020 game:
  1. There is nothing unlocked in the world. I don't have to pay extra or do specific tasks to unlock some part of the world. I can visit any place any time!
  2. The scale is grand. This has the biggest map of any game.
  3. So many different airplanes to choose from and they all act and feel different.
  4. This game is very relaxing. I can just unwind and soak the beauty of the world from the comfort of my chair.
  5. I love this game cause it takes up whopping over 150GB of Disk space.
  6. I love pushing and flicking buttons. Especially the flick switches. They are so yumm to touch. And the clicky sound it makes is better than any orgasm. Basically, I am flicking and pushing buttons while flying around in a tube.
  7. I can crash the plane without having to worry about anything.
  8. Landing! Landing in this game is like going to final exam without studying anything. If you nail it, that feeling is amazing!
  9. I can fly along with the birds!
  10. I can land the plane anywhere I want. Even in a grassfields or your ex's backyard.
  11. I am tired of playing the repeat levels of Fall Guys.
  12. The full detailed cockpit is amazing!
  13. Realistic ATC commands with interactions. If I am angry, I can choose to ignore the ATC.
  14. I need to find more things I like after playing the game.
I am in touch with the MSFS community on Discord and YouTube videos, with always waiting for max737Ifly video to show up as his videos are so good and realistic (even my mom loves watching it). I just cannot get enough from this game.
I can play this game even when I am listening to Podcasts and it makes such an immersive experience. The tiny details the game provides, like waiting instructions from ATC before you move a muscle, dialing the knobs, flipping tiny switches in the cockpit only adds to the experience which I enjoy a lot. This game is enjoyed by both, casual gamers and professional pilots as well. The game sends me to another world and is like a therapy for me. And playing MS Flight Simulator makes me feel like a bird. The game brings me a joy I cannot express through words.
Here are some content from the game:
  1. Some beautiful scenes (this is just a trailer)
  2. Beautiful clouds
  3. FS vs Real life
  4. Montage
  5. Hudson River
Here is me playing FS on my friend's PC:
  1. Potash Ponds
  2. Simpson Desert
  3. The deep hole near Antarctica
why I can't get it:
I cannot afford it to be honest. I have taken some surveys to earn a bit here and there to collect for the game but it's such a long process and the reward is generally not worth it. My bad luck is that due to a technical mistake, the game was selling with 80% discount but due to time zone difference, I couldn't grab on the once in a lifetime opportunity. I also tried other giveaways for steam gift cards, but I never win them, and they are so rare to come by. I am really struggling with money and hence I am here.
Because I cannot afford the game, I tried to look into alternatives:
  1. Xplanes really is the only contender, but it lacks the real-time aspect of weather, wind, terrain MS Flight Simulator provides. Moreover, it's more about planes and their simulation than exploration.
  2. DCS World, which is a full-on military combat simulation game. Even though that game is extremely hard to play with a keyboard, I still managed to play some couple of hours in it. However, it's really not something I am interested in as It's not a game where you can explore the world and the Jet planes are very speedy and hard to control. Compared to that, Flight Simulator is more of an arcade style game and controlling it is fun and easy even with keyboard and mouse.
An explanation of why GamePass and MS Rewards ain't the way:
MS Rewards: In India, we can only get an Amazon gift voucher for Rs. 250 for 4,000 points. So only 162 points are allotted per day to farm. Given that, I get mere Rs. 250 in 25 days. So a total of something around 64,000 points required for a total of Rs 4000. This is what the game costs now post sale. So it would take me around more than a year to accumulate so many points. By then I might just lose interest in the game.
Game Pass: I don't have a card that can work with game pass. And in the long run it will cost me far more than what the game would have cost me. I also won 2 month free game pass key on reddit which I wasn't able to redeem due to card issue. It's a game that I plan to play for a really long time.
Also, I am saving to get a 500GB SSD just for this game along with some add-ons. I won't be asking here if I could have afforded all of these. I cannot get both of them. And SSD costs more than the game.
why you should gift it to me:
I will be playing this game everyday and you won't feel your money is wasted. This gift will bring such a big smile to my face that even Joker would feel ashamed. I know many people hoard games and don't play them, or they play for a few times and stop. I can guarantee you that once I get this game, I will be playing it every single day! This game is the reason I am for the first time requesting for a game here. And I promise I will do justice to the game and gifter. I am not requesting for any deluxe version or anything, just the base game will suffice for me. I can say it from my heart that the day I get this game, will be the day I will be flying in the air of joy! As this community works on the principle of making others happy with no selflessness! But I can never be happy unless I own this game. This game is the only game missing from my library of happiness.
If that's not enough, let me tell you something: you will feel on top of the world if you gift this game to me, even more than me. Don't ask me how. Be the first person to gift someone MS Flight Simulator on this sub and feel proud. If you don't feel on top the world, I will make sure to pick you up free of cost from your home in one of your choice of plane and will personally drop you on the top of Mt. Everest. I will also let you touch some buttons in the cockpit or let you control the yoke. But only you have to figure out how to get down from the Mt., as I will be flying all that time exploring the world. But if you don't like cold places, I can show you a secret place (This Secret place is a part of a DLC and there is a way to unlock this place)!
To anyone who gifts this game to me, I will forever remember you and engrave your name on my grave thanking you that I died in peace. And when I meet God, I will personally tell him that if it weren't for you, I would have gone to hell.
My steam ID
Price of base 40th Anniversary edition in India: Rs. 3,999. However, I will still ask for the discounted price of 2,999 which is $35. The rest I will try to manage from somewhere or use the MS Reward for 4 months.

2023.03.26 13:27 Dolphin_Trail My friend should give a loan and co-sign a mortgage, but does not get part of the bought flat.

My friend (f32) K. and her boyfriend (m34) M. of a decade have the opportunity to buy a flat from M's parents.
Nothing is signed yet. The verbal agreement so far was that K would co-sign the mortgage and get 1/2 of the flat in return. Unfortunately, that was only verbal and things changed.
M needs K's money to be eligible to get the mortgage from the bank. Now M's parents and M's idea is for K to loan her money to M and co-sign the mortgage.
Only loaning the money and not co-signing doesn't work for the bank.
In return, she would pay less towards the mortgage but no part of the bought flat would be hers.
They want to keep the flat within the family and if they had to sell it make sure she doesn't get any profit from it.
So if M and K were to break up she could still be held accountable for missing mortgage payments.
In my opinion, that's an unfair deal. I think she should get 1/2 of the flat if she brings half of the money for it. Another option would be to not buy it at all.
Renting it from the parents is too expensive. The option where M's parents keep K's part and M only gets half of the flat is not doable financially for M's parents.
So Reddit any other idea what K could do so she doesn't sign her finances away?
Thanks for your answers in advance.

2023.03.26 13:22 Veledala My stepmother told me she wants to divorce my father and I don't know what to do

When I (23M) was 10 years old my father divorced my mother and about two years later he married my stepmother with whom he has 3 children. After my parent's divorce, my mother went to live about 10km away from my father, who bought a house with my stepmother, they still live there to this day. My family has always been multicultural, apart from my stepmother being Ghanaian, my mother is French and my father's parent emigrated from Czechoslovakia in the 80's. By the way, English is not my mother tongue, therefore I'm sorry for any mistake I could make.
I've been aware the situation has been deteriorating for a while, a few years after they've got married, my stepmother developed pathological jealousy and suspiciousness towards my mother. She basically forbade my father to contact her over any matter, throwing a fit and almost leaving the country with my stepsister when she discovered they were still talking together over work related issues. We all quickly realized we were walking on eggshells, she would be deeply suspicious of him and would pick fights with him over little misunderstandings, even for things me and my (1 year younger) sister would say. Overall she revealed herself to be quite selfish and irresponsible, she's the one that earns the most money in the marriage, yet she spends it on beauty products, expensive clothes and sends a significant amount to Africa, where she launched some business. She's hardly ever there for the kids, leaves my father at home with the them and goes out with friends or after-work events. From my father's perspective, she's a bad mother and I would tend to agree on this.
On the other side, my father hasn't been himself lately. He found a new job with the help of my stepmother and is now earning about as much as she does, but at the same time he keeps working for his own company, even though he's supposed to have closed it for months. My grandfather got sick with rapidly progressing dementia, last year, he's now in the late stages, unable to move, and is taken care of by my grandmother, my uncle and him. My sister dropped out of college and works for my father's company, she's clueless as to what to do with her life and lives with her boyfriend, which doesn't seem to care much about it. He has to take care of the kids, take them to school, take care of the house which is basically still under construction. So many things lie on his shoulders and he looks exhausted. Overall he seems to be letting everything unfold as if he wasn't part of it. He takes forever to answer to us - me and my sister - and changes his mind all the time, he doesn't seem to see things clearly. Lately he has been talking about buying a house for my mother, because she's in a precarious financial situation, but as soon as my stepmother heard about it, she disappeared for a week to "make him realize his mistake".
My father is a very secretive person, he does not talk about his problems, he keeps everything inside and never seeks help from anybody. After living a few years in Czechia, I realized this attitude was very common amongst Czechs, as it is unacceptable, in the Czech society, to bother other people with your personal issues.
He's basically the one on which my whole family relies, but it is beginning to get clear that he's failing at it, because nobody can stand that much pressure without putting his own health in jeopardy. On the other side I must say that he was not always a good father to us - me and my sister - he left us alone when we were 10, we didn't see him for a year. He would give me financial help when I was abroad, and then decide to cut it without warning. He told me many times he did not believe in me and I basically had to make myself alone. It's beginning to clear to me that he doesn't know how to manage his own life, but at the same time I just see what's on the surface and God knows what he's going through by himself.
I've been living in a city about 100km away from them, and came to visit yesterday, while staying at my mother's place. Last night my stepmother proposed to take me back there because it was late and I came without my car. Upon arriving, we started to talk about my father, she told me how she feels exhausted from him, how he's been hiding things from her. There was, for instance, some issues with the nurse that takes care of my grandfather, as she's apparently been sending very personal messages to my father, she noticed it and also noticed he was buying train tickets for her. When she confronted him about it, he went to see the nurse and apologized for my stepmother's jealousy, the nurse recorded it and sent it to people in the local African community, now apparently everybody's talking trash about my stepmother. She then fired her, but my grandmother called her back and told my stepmother to stay away from her house. On another occasion she found a hotel reservation for two people on the backseat of my father's car.
She then went on to tell me she was, in fact, not suspicious at all of my mother, but the fact that my father would try to hide every conversation they had from her made her think that there was more to it. Also the fact that my father keeps so many things inside makes her very distrustful of him. She then told me she has been gathering evidence and contacted a lawyer, but she's waiting to see if my father wakes up and changes something after their trip to Africa, next April.
I'm sorry for the length, but there you see how complicated this whole situation is. I've always known that it was, but I didn't suspect it to be nearly as bad as this. I told her I would discuss with my father, but just what am I supposed to tell him? I don't even understand who's at fault, if not both of them. Of course he could take charge of his life, sell his company, get more sleep and be more clear and honest when communicating with other people, but isn't this just a consequence of this terrible marriage? I don't really understand what's going on and yet I bear this information and am clueless what to do with it. Should I warn my father about a potential divorce ahead? Should I tell him what my stepmother think is wrong and ask him why he's been behaving this way? She did not say she would divorce, but she's considering it.
TL;DR : my stepmother told me she's considering divorce with my father and I don't know what to tell him, but they both seem to have messed up.

2023.03.26 13:21 Obvious_Ad4575 I feel like my wife is using me. Should I get a divorce?

I have been married for 3 years. During the first two years, we lived separately because my wife worked at a hospital in a different town. We moved to Sweden a year ago and that's when we actually started living together. During this time, I realized that she does not care about keeping the house clean and other household stuff. Currently, I'm the only one who is employed and I pay for everything. She is 100% financially dependent on me. Apart from cooking food, I do all other household work such as laundry, cleaning, and waste management.
She has this bad habit of throwing waste paper on the floor instead in the bin. When I ask her nicely to use the bin, she always gets furious and starts scolding me saying that I try to find her mistakes and I shouldn't be doing that. She does the same thing when I ask her to wash her own dish after eating. She brings up the fact that she is the one who cooks and because of that I should wash whatever she leaves in the sink during the day. She only cooks once a day (twice on weekends). One day, during an argument she told me that she did not love me and she married me just because she wanted to get out of her parent's house. She was unemployed when I met her and she was living with her parents. Her parents were sometimes verbally aggressive toward her. Now, I don't have the same kind of attraction toward her and I'm not sure what to do. I feel like she is just using me to have a good life. I'm really stressed because of this. She gets to go on foreign trips and have fancy things, and I cannot even suggest a small thing to make our house a better place for living.
Should I get a divorce?

What You Get Phase 0) Digital Economics 101 The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date. This is an onboarding module that will get you up to speed so we can get straight into the material. This will be required to finish before the start date.
  • Gain a deep understanding of all of the pieces in the digital economy.
  • Learn about the future of media and code — the front-end and backend of the internet — so you can focus your efforts.
  • Understand digital leverage, distribution, no-code tools, and digital assets so you can take part in the mental & financial wealth transfer.
Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with *what will sell.*You already have the answer. You just don’t have the clarity.
  • Develop a long-term strategy to create your own niche — meaning you don’t have to worry about your “competition” playing status games.
  • Discover your life’s work, curiosities, and obsessions. I see too many people that are uncertain about this for years.
  • Cultivate and turn your vision, goals, and values into a brand that attracts an audience you love interacting with (and that will buy from you, and only you).
Phase 2) Content Strategy There is one thing that separates those who make it in the digital economy and those who don’t.It’s the quality, articulation, and perceived originality of their content. The content you post has to make sense to the people you attract.Everyone has a different voice and tone that they resonate with. **That they are congruent with and trust.**It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable. That’s what separates you from the sea of people posting surface-level copy-cat style posts.Example and putting my money where my mouth is:
  • Become an expert-level speaker or writer on the topics you care about.
  • Never run out of content ideas for your posts or promotions (without using content templates — that’s how you stay a commodity).
  • Create posts, blogs, tweets, images, and videos that resonate with other’s on a deep level. People will actually ask you how you got so good at what you do.
  • Separate yourself from the ocean of B-tier creators that struggle to sell their products, services, andhave their ideas stick in the head of their audience.
  • Implement our Epistemic Research Method — which is just a fancy way of saying scientific research method… but it’s for researching your mind to craft brilliant content and product ideas.
Phase 3) Crafting Your Offer Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge (that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them). That is what people pay for.Considering 95% of the market are beginners… if you are good at something, you can help them get to your level (no matter how “basic” you think the information is).Do you not watch basic content all day anyway? People don’t want new information, they want to be reminded of what works.
  • Use our Minimum Viable Offer strategy to start monetizing immediately (and have something to improve over time, rather than procrastinating until it’s perfect).
  • Have a strategy for reducing the time you spend working over time (as you build leverage and improve your offer).
  • Know how to create your own customers from the audience you are building, instead of “finding” the right customer for your offer.
  • Take the guesswork out of building coaching, consulting, or digital product offers.
Phase 4) Marketing Strategy You aren’t making money because you aren’t promoting yourself or your offer. That is literally the only way to make money. Have something desirable and consistently put it in front of peoples’ faces. In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way).
  • Learn to sell on social media, in your writing, and across different platforms.
  • Have consistent sales coming in while focusing on your meaningful message (no need to sound salesy all the time).
  • Learn advanced automation strategies that you can implement at your own pace, especially once you validate your offer.
Bonus) The Creator Command Center The Creator Command Center is a Notion template that houses all of the systems. This is how you will manage your brand, content, offer creation, marketing strategy, and systemized promotions for consistent sales. Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan.***And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days.***That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work.

2023.03.26 13:19 Comfortable_Bug2930 Xbox series x all access problem

This is a strange one. I picked up a Series x on all access last November. The guy in store advised me he could get me £30 of free vouchers by signing up to a bunch of stuff and assured me it would be free. He said to sign up to these things they would need bank details but to cancel them immediately afterwards and I’d still get the voucher.
After signing up I couldn’t cancel in store, he said I should be able to and actually took my phone out my hands and said it was now done.
TBH I was a fool for letting him do this but he seemed genuine and I really thought he was trying to help. I just wanted my xbox at the time and tbh felt a bit sorry for the guy.
Anyway weeks later I start seeing Direct debits coming out my bank for a warranty and some subscription to the “game” shop (UK based store). I never got a voucher either.
I managed to cancel the game store subscription but looks like Im stuck with a warranty I didn’t want.
Now to top it off, Ive only just noticed Im not paying anything for the xbox console. I already pay for multiple game pass subscriptions so I just saw money going out to xbox each month and wrongly assumed this was it.
I’ve logged into Klana who provide credit for the console/ all access and it says “processing in store”.
They haven’t finalised the transaction in store by the looks of it.
Clearly the guy in the shop has made a total mess of this and TBH Im not entirely sure what to do from here.
I’ve currently had a series X for 5 months and haven’t paid anything for it.
