The 4 teens swam for about 15 minutes until they were cooled off. Kayla and Candy had stayed neck deep in the water and were now standing on the sandy bottom. The two boys climbed back up on the boat, found two large beach towels in a bin, and started drying off.
“I’m a whore,” she said softly
"Nah man, this babe told me she won't do unless it's protective," he told me, "anyway ya got some or what man."

Miss Bradley wore a proud knowing smile, “Well it appears you have found your artifact, the Kinetic Glove from the looks of things.”
"Andrew, it's dad. I convinced your mom to get a hotel room tonight so we can have some fun of our own. We won't be back until noon tomorrow." Emily looked at me quizzicly.
I laughed at him and kissed his cum covered nose. "Well, you're all mine now, you're my little bitch forever. And I love your tiny little cock" I pressed my pussy hard onto his now stiffening cock, "And I love you."
"Tons," Charlie responded. "But is it ok that I was so... quick?"
"Now!" I yelled again
Because of course then I had no idea about Jake...
By the end of the week Adam was sweaty moody and most importantly desperate to cum.
I spurted out a half-dozen times and tried to keep thrusting, following Cindy's command not to stop. I was surprised to find my dick suddenly incredibly sensitive. I felt each thrust so much more clearly than I had previously, in a way that was close to overwhelming.
“Wow Neville, you stud!” Ginny finally broke the silence of the foursome. “We’ve all been planning to go a help perpetuate the rumour further that the Shrieking Shack is haunted again, do you want to come with us with Luna?”
We got out of the tub and got dressed. I wore just some shorts. Becky wore some shorts and a different, black and white striped bikini top. Seeing this reminded me of something, and I took Becky to my bag to show her, I handed her a pink Victoria Secret box and she opened it. I also grabbed a small case out of the bag but I did not give it to her
“Look, Steph, I know you’re not enjoying this. We can try something else, if you want.
I could hear Taylor smile. “Yeah, but I think this is, like, a good kind of crazy,” she breathed.
By the time it was over she was being held up and four teens moved her out of the arcade taking her to their van and taking her to their clubhouse deep in the woods behind the groups homes. They placed her on a bed in the clubhouse binding her naked and spread eagled on it. The boys put vibrators in her vagina and anus putting tight panties on her to keep them in place. Then they left her there for thirty six hours. When they finally returned they found a mess that they unbound her and cleaned her up. Having no way to go to the bathroom she pissed and shit on the bed and the results of her many orgasms collected around her on the bed.
"Oh hey man, what's up?" Derek said, as soon as I sat.

“I can’t believe it, I just can’t believe it. Jack… what you did up there was the most amazing thing I’ve seen or heard in my life,” Victoria admitted, pulling back and wiping away her tears.
Bobby grabbed something off the floor and wiped his semen off of my miniskirt. He rubbed the item against my pussy, making sure to collect each and every last drop.
She stood from the couch and walked to him. Without a word, she touched his cheek and kissed him, sliding her tongue into his mouth. After a second longer than it should have taken him, Sean broke off the kiss.
"We have gone out a couple of times, he seems real nice, and has always been polite to me."
“I’m glad I was missed last night,” Katy says as we break our embrace and get back to working on her form,” So what are you going to do about Liz.”
I drove us down and out of their driveway. About thirty seconds after we had pulled out of their driveway we rounded a bend in the road and we saw a white ford F-250 the driver stuck their hand out the window and waved, then they made a STOP motion with their hand. It took me second but I eventually realized that it was Sarah’s truck I stopped and Sarah pulled up beside us.
“We will, I just know it. We will be the hottest couple in the contest. No other couple as young or with as good of a body is entering.”

“He likes sucking my cock, and lets me fuck his ass.” Matt said as I noticed he had a small trickle of sweat running from his brow.
“Well, I’m coming down your throat,” Brad said to Taylor. She just kept sucking him and he blew a load in her throat. Brad sat back, and Taylor could speak for the first time in a while.
"Where's the fun in being good?" I protested, turning my head to face her.
“I. . . goodnight Josh.”
"I mean, I knew that Art's dick would throb, and that his sperm would be released in small spurts. I had learned that much from my experience in the bathroom with Freddy.
Juan crazy Sex adventures in Puerto Rico.
The assistant disappeared as quickly as he’d come, and Thomas, who was dressed in formal attire, spread the napkins on Yvette and Ric’s laps, and produced an ice bucket and wine seemingly out of thin air. Concluding the wine-tasting ritual with Ric, Thomas poured wine for Yvette and Ric, and disappeared . . . somewhere. Ric toasted and clinked glasses with his cousin; “To the prettiest girl I know . . . Happy Birthday.”
"Do you believe him?" Josh asked Gina. "Do you think he's being sincere?"
He took off his shirt and pants, bare in only his boxers and climbed onto the bed, kneeling between my legs.
Pretty lame. Are we actually supposed to buy the whole whole anal -titjob ending. Juvenile. Keep trying.
“I can't compare the two,” he said. “They both just happened. They surprised me, and I didn't have time to think about it. I just did it, or you did it to me.”
I shrugged, trying to appear unexcited. I waited for her to say something. I could tell she was seriously considering it.
Tiffany began to moan and squeal uncontrollably. “Uhgh…, uhhg…, ungh…,” she grunted. “Ah.., ah.., ah…, mmmm! Oh daddy! Oh daddy! Oh! Oh! Oh!” she grunted and moaned before finally squealing out loudly “Aaaahhh-aaaahhh-eeeeeiiiiiie!” Wave after wave of orgasmic bliss rolled over her. Her thighs quivered with her orgasm’s intensity.
“And… that’s time. Pencils down please,” Mr. Sigorsky called. The only class Tyler, Zoe and Nami had together all semester was math class, and Mr. Sigorsky was their balding teacher, tasked with what may as well have been a teacher’s nightmare – a class with those three at the back of the class.
"Throw me that towel, would you Matt?" Pris asked walking towards the lounge chair.
The rest of the appointment was fairly normal. The piercing was a success and the two of them were in and out rather quickly. As they were leaving, Clair slipped Brittany her business card, saying with a wink, "If you're seriously wanting those nipple rings, I can give you a bit of a discount. Or just hit me up for whatever!"
She flicked me in the nose.

“We’re good to go then, I’ll talk with the art club and that will get the ball rolling,” Tania tells me grabbing her bag.
"I'm not sure that you really want to hear this, but I have to stay because I love her." I said as I started to tear up.
He smiled, knowing that it was more than he had expected. “Of course mother. I would expect nothing less of you.”
I found a way to pull her body closer to mine. “Are you saying you don’t want to?” I asked her…

“Mhm,” I grunted, fumbling with the new belt she had given me. She made a pleased noise and scooted herself closer to the edge of the dryer, but made no effort to pull up her dress. With a gasp of almost comical relief, I freed the beast so to speak. Mrs. Fletcher took one look at the throbbing shaft, now pointing prominently at her face, and turned bright red, her fingers grasping the fabric of her dress. I reached out and quickly hiked the hem of her dress up around her waist. Her bare slit was covered in a dull sheen of moisture and served only to turn us both on like nobody’s business. It seemed we both held our breath as I hurried to bury my painfully hard cock in her soothing heat. It seemed like such a slow process but it could only have been a second or two.
“I’ve got 27, you?” My quiet mumble had been optimized for brevity.
My Mom simply said, “Don’t stop.” And continued to finger fuck herself.
"Took the words right out of my mouth" she said
what about the computer room ?
Though Jessica had been indulged fully with the climax of her first orgasm, Nick was still primed to reach his pinnacle of sexual arousal, and he wanted to wait for the perfect moment. Despite his occasionally selfish manly desires, Nick also took great pride in his awareness toward others, and genuinely wanted to give Jessica the ride of her life before he could take no more.
“Condemns?”
I grabbed my cock, pushed it into her pussy, and began to fuck her again. Jessica moaned as I pounded her, knowing fully well that I was determined to give her another mind-blowing orgasm.
I’ve never given a blow job before.
By the earlier hours though, it was winding down. People were going off home. Jason had wandered off around half eleven and I had no idea where he had gone.
For a while, we just masturbated each other. I played with her 32C tits, which were getting hard, rubbing her nice ass, and rubbing her clit, she moaning and exploring my shaft. Then we were ready to rock.
With that, he straddled his sisters thighs and used one hand to aim his cock and the other to pull apart one of her ass cheeks. It took a few long seconds until his aim found the overheated sexual hole that easily accommodated him. "Thank you David! Thank you..." She sighed very loudly then began to rotate her hips, anxious for his strokes.
"I can take care of all that for you."

What is Bluehost and what type of hosting it offers? 🤔
Bluehost hosting review
Over the years, Bluehost has grown to be one of the most popular hosting companies out there, especially for WordPress sites.

Just glancing at their homepage and all the different products that Bluehost offers tells you a lot about why it’s won so many users over. First off, Bluehost has numerous different hosting products in their portfolio – not just simple website hosting.

Second, their prices are really, really affordable. Plus, you also get a handful of bonuses thrown in for free. This makes your overall cost of launching a site much lower vs what you’d have to pay with the competition.

But let’s start at the beginning. Here are the different types of hosting that Bluehost has in store, including one that is likely going to be the pick for most users.

Let’s divide the list into a couple of categories:

  1. Entry-level web hosting
This is the budget solution in Bluehost’s portfolio of web hosting. These plans are usually chosen by users who are new to the concept of owning a website and needing web hosting to make it happen.

Bluehost has two main offerings that fall under entry-level hosting:

Shared web hosting
Basic WordPress hosting
While it may seem like the latter is better if you want to use WordPress as your website engine, in reality, both are the same product. From what I’ve seen, this is simply a different marketing framing, but the elements on the inside are the same.

  1. Managed WordPress hosting
The basic WordPress hosting plans mentioned above are just that – basic. However, Bluehost also offers a more advanced package called Managed WordPress.

Compared to the basic offering, the managed variety takes care of all the technical aspects of the hosting setup and WordPress maintenance for you.

In other words, when you’re on managed WordPress hosting, you don’t have to worry about anything related to keeping your site operational. Instead, you can just focus on creating content and promoting your site.

Managed plans also give you more power under the hood 💪, which is important for sites with an established position in the market that receive more traffic.

Bluehost also has a tailor-made offering for WordPress websites running WooCommerce – for eCommerce stores. Those plans come with some WooCommerce-specific elements pre-installed (WooCommerce itself, an optimized theme, payment processing tools, security, extras).

If you’re looking for a host because you are indeed going to be launching a WooCommerce store, this is probably the solution for you.

  1. Professional hosting
The last tier of Bluehost hosting is what we can call professional-level hosting. Two main products here:

VPS hosting
Dedicated servers
The former is a very interesting concept that’s built around hosting virtualization. VPS stands for virtual private server. What you’re actually getting here is access to a web hosting setup that runs as a virtual machine on a bigger, physical server. It’s a setup beneficial when building web apps or other types of web-based products that are not necessarily standard websites.

If you do indeed need a whole physical machine at your disposal, that’s what dedicated servers are for. This type of web hosting is usually the most expensive and powerful hosting option available with most companies.

Bluehost hosting review: features and pricing ⚙️💸
As you read above, Bluehost has many different hosting plans and tiers available, and each of them delivers a slightly different set of features.

For the purpose of this Bluehost hosting review, we’ll look at the entry-level plan called Basic Web Hosting.

It’s the most budget-friendly solution in the lineup and, for that reason, also the most popular one among customers.

Here’s a snapshot of the pricing page at the time of writing:

Bluehost pricing
As you can see, Bluehost has a very affordable offering that starts at just $2.95/mo. However, the first thing you must know about this price is that you have to sign up for a three-year contract in order to get it. It is also paid upfront, which means that you do have to shell out $106.20 on day one.

There are options to begin with shorter contracts, but the prices grow with those a bit. Here’s the full picture:

36 months: Basic $2.95/mo, Plus and Choice Plus $5.45/mo, Pro $13.95/mo
24 months: Basic $3.95/mo, Plus and Choice Plus $6.95/mo, Pro $15.95/mo
12 months: Basic $4.95/mo, Plus and Choice Plus $7.45/mo, Pro $18.95/mo
Bluehost doesn’t offer month-to-month payment options
Okay, but what do you get for these prices?

Overall, Bluehost focuses on delivering two things:

the basic set of features and server capabilities that most users will need,
making those features easy to use and accessible.
All the entry-level plans are very similar on paper, but there are a couple of fine differences.

First of all, none is “more powerful” than the other. Speaking in terms of computing power and the “scale of website,” they can all handle the same load. The differences are mainly in the size of website and number of websites you’re allowed to run.

On the Basic plan, you are allowed only one website. Your disk space is also limited to 50 GB.
All the other plans let you run unlimited websites and consume unlimited disk space while doing so.
This is great because what it means in practice is that if you want to build 2+ websites, Bluehost will only charge you $5.45/mo for that.

Here’s what else you get.

The Basic plan:

24/7 customer support via phone and chat (more on the quality of that later in this Bluehost hosting review),
access to custom themes from within the Bluehost panel,
a free domain name for the first year(!) plus access to a domain manager,
email hosting – albeit it’s kind of hidden in the panel,
a $100 Google Ads credit and Google My Business integration,
free CDN integration – a “content delivery network” hook-up means that your website’s data is served from multiple servers across the web instead of just one machine; this improves your site speed a lot,
free SSL certificates.
The Choice plan throws in a free Office 365 subscription for one month. The Choice Plus gives you additional access to free domain privacy (so that no one can check your personal data associated with the domain name) and free automatic backups. Lastly, the Pro plan offers an additional dedicated IP address (important when building web apps/tools, not so much for standard websites).

Overall, there really is nothing here that’s missing. Bluehost has put some real thought behind what the essential web hosting features are and then put them all together in this offering.

The free domain is a huge deal in particular! You’d usually have to pay around $15 for a new domain name registration. While it’s not a lot, it still adds up to your overall website launch bill. The fact that Bluehost throws that in for free is great.

⚠️ Note. Mind the renewal prices. Bluehost, like most hosting companies, will charge you a different amount when first signing up for their service vs renewing after a while. Those renewal prices are higher. Take a look at that pricing screenshot above one more time. See the crossed off price below the main price? That’s the renewal price – it’s what you’re going to pay after your initial contract is up.

Bluehost hosting review: ease of use 👐
Bluehost does a lot to make the signup and website launch process as smooth as possible. They realize that whoever’s choosing the entry-level plan probably doesn’t have a lot of experience with web hosting. Bluehost tries to make it possible for that user to configure everything on their own without outside help. All within the Bluehost hosting interface.

Once you get through the purchase process on Bluehost’s website and finalize everything, you’ll be invited to your new user profile page.

Right away, Bluehost will ask you how you want to go about building your website and if you want to have WordPress installed on your setup. They will even ask you whether you want to work on your site in the classic model (by picking a theme and modifying it) or use Bluehost’s new builder interface.

Bluehost builder
I went with the first option since it’s more common for WordPress users to do so.

Next, right in the main dashboard, you get a couple of suggestions as to what you should do to make your site better:

Bluehost hosting dashboard
You can log into your WordPress site directly from the dashboard as well – just click the Log in to WordPress button in the top right corner.

If you take a look at the sidebar to the left, you’ll find links to other useful sections:

Home. It’s where you are right now.
My Sites. Since you can have more than one site on most Bluehost hosting plans, this is where you can see them all.
Marketplace. Bluehost makes it easy to integrate your site with other third-party tools, add-ons, and also upgrade your hosting tier if needed. This section is where you can purchase and install those integrations with a couple of clicks.
Bluehost hosting add-ons
WordPress themes and plugins. This is a subsection under Marketplace, but I feel I should highlight it here. Bluehost gives you access to custom WordPress themes right from the dashboard. It also hooks up to your site directly, so that you can purchase and install those themes all from the Bluehost interface. This can be a huge timesaver.
Bluehost hosting themes
Email & Office. Bluehost gives you an option to integrate your site with hosted email via Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. This is where you can enable everything.
Domains. This is where you can manage your website domain(s) and purchase new ones.
Marketing Tools. This section is all about making it easier to integrate your site with popular marketing channels such as Google Ads, Google My Business, and others.
Advanced. Go here if you want to access cPanel (if this doesn’t sound like English, then Advanced is probably not a section for you).
Let’s look into what’s possible when managing your site, since that’s what most of us will want to do.

When you go to My Sites and select your site from the list, you’ll see the following panel:

Bluehost hosting WordPress panel
This is a nice view of your site’s status all in one place. From here, you can access the themes you have installed, your plugins, and even oversee your marketing promotions, backups, user accounts, security, and more.

What’s great here is that everything is presented nicely, and you’re spared all the server lingo. You don’t have to be a pro to know what’s going on.

And I remind you that we are dealing here with basic, entry-level hosting setup that did cost a mere $2.95/mo. So…impressive.

Bluehost performance and load times 📈
Okay, so we know that Bluehost is cheap. But is it fast? There has to be a trade-off somewhere, right? Is it performance?

Let’s find out:

We did a very simple test. We set up a site using Bluehost’s tools, published some dummy content on it, added images, picked a theme and configured it, and basically made the site look real.

Then, we also added a couple of plugins for good measure, like WPForms, Yoast SEO, Jetpack, and a couple more.

Below are the results of the tests – done from several locations:

Bluehost hosting review: PERFORMANCE

LOCATION LOADING TIME TTFB FIRST PAINT INTERACTIVE
N. Virginia 0.77 s 288 ms 0.81 s 0.87 s
California 0.91 s 354 ms 0.93 s 0.99 s
Canada 0.92 s 385 ms 1.09 s 1.04 s
Frankfurt 1.36 s 576 ms 1.40 s 1.34 s
Paris 1.24 s 547 ms 1.19 s 1.19 s
Mumbai 2.05 s 849 ms 1.62 s 1.68 s
Sydney 2.21 s 911 ms 1.74 s 1.84 s
I have to give it to Bluehost…considering this is budget hosting, the results are more than impressive!

Going below one sec for US traffic is pretty much all you can ask for with any hosting platform – even the more expensive ones.

Bluehost hosting review: customer support 🚑
Bluehost offers 24/7 phone and live chat support. Apart from that, there’s also a knowledge base where you can find tutorials and answers to the most common questions people have about Bluehost’s platform.

You can access the support chat from the main contact page on Bluehost’s site.

Bluehost asks a couple of questions to identify you as a customer, and then gets you through to a support agent.

From our experience when writing this Bluehost hosting review, a support agent got to us pretty much immediately after starting the chat.

The interaction was positive, the agent offered advice and was willing to help. However, we seem to had hit a wall in terms of what they’re actually authorized to do.

Granted, I did ask him to do a fairly specific thing.

Bluehost support
Bluehost Pros and cons – 6 Pros and 3 Cons 👍👎
Before we give you our final rating in this Bluehost hosting review, let’s look at a quick list of pros and cons.

Pros 👍

The entry price is more than affordable ($2.95/mo).
They give you a free domain for the first year.
The setup is really easy to do, especially if you want to use WordPress.
The user interface is great, making it easy to do simple modifications and/or maintenance tasks.
The load times are really impressive, managing to go below the one-second mark.
The support is quick to respond.
Cons 👎

The renewal prices are much higher than the entry-level ones. That’s why you’re better off going for the max-term contract right out the gate.
While you can set up hosted email on the platform, it’s a bit hidden. You have to go to the cPanel view and set everything up there by hand.
The reviews on the web are mixed. Some users seem to be having issues with their setups. However, many of those reviews are from a while back.
Bluehost hosting review conclusion: Why use it over another host 💪
At the end of the day, Bluehost looks like a great solution for the budget-minded person who wants to launch a new site as quickly as possible and also fairly cheaply.

Bluehost has all the basic hosting features you might expect, and the performance isn’t lacking in any way either.

Granted, the tests we did haven’t been carried out over a long period of time, so you’re mileage may vary, but the early indicators are certainly more than positive!

2023.03.28 23:27 steakinapan Anyone want to try an NBA model I’ve been playing around with? Projections in the post.

Would anyone like to join me in testing my new model? It attempts to predict the final scores for each team in a game by considering various factors such as:
Skip to the end of the post for the projections
I've been using this system since after the All-Star break and have had some decent success with it in the past. However, my record-keeping has been a bit disorganized, so I cannot provide a complete success rate. Some days, I've had an 80% success rate, while on other days, it's been around 45%. Over time, I've made multiple adjustments to the system (including several adjustments today), but I'm feeling good about it and wanted to share my progress with others.
When placing my bets, I rely solely on the model's predictions and adjust them based on its results. This ensures that my decisions are based on objective data rather than any personal preferences or biases.
As the regular season is drawing to a close, I anticipate that these will be the final adjustments I make to the model. Moving forward, I plan to shift my focus toward preparing for the upcoming MLB and NFL seasons.
If these projections produce a good success rate, I will share them for the remainder of the season. If you decide to follow them, I wish you the best of luck and appreciate your support.
Spoiler alert: For today the model predicts that all favorites will win and cover. However, for the ones that I think could go the other way, I will indicate them below.

2023.03.28 18:35 Royale-w-Cheese Dr. Nolove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Disrespect

This occurred to me reading yesterday's baseball thread on top 10 lineups where I saw some of you (and others, to be fair) wondering how the Guardians made the 10 spot over the Angels.
I'm a Cincinnati guy who follows the Angels after moving to Salt Lake. I'm here to bring you Bengals vibes. They have adapted to absolutely THRIVE on the disrespect and low expectations thrown their way.
This is our head coach apologizing for winning after NFL was very noisily setting up for a Chiefs vs. Bills AFC Championship game. This is the energy this team needs. It is a fun cultural mindset that you just have to take on when the rest of the league has a 'prove it' attitude - rightfully so, imo - towards you.
Embrace the shade, stop expecting up-front validation, and learn to love the disrespect as this team WINS way more games than anyone expects. It's already there in the way you guys have reclaimed 'hopium' I just wanna reinforce it.
This year's gonna be fun. Go Halos!!

Ragtag Demons Raum -- A Deck Guide
Howdy folks!
After playing for about two months (and still with a rather slim collection), got myself to around 3k in the ladder with the Raum deck seen below, so I thought I'd share the list I'm using, along with some thoughts on what to replace them with if you don't happen to have it.
Here's the deck in question:

https://preview.redd.it/jehy9f7rkhqa1.png?width=1281&format=png&auto=webp&s=4a15eaeb58938ac2968e4435cd3284885556be4d
… and here's the deck in copy/paste format:
* Daemonista+
*
* Warlord: Argel Tal
*
* 2x Boradol Squad
* 2x Dagotal Bikes
* 1x Secutarii Axiarch
* 2x Signus Fanatic
* 2x Undercover Cultist
* 2x Xesugal Squad
* 1x Book of Lorgar
* 2x Cultist Sorcerer
* 1x Fiend of Slaanesh
* 1x Plague Drone
* 2x Priest of Old Faiths
* 1x Sor Bakhpal
* 1x Torgal Squad
* 1x Beast of Phyra
* 2x Bloodmaster
* 1x Burning of Bodt
* 1x Dark Channelling
* 2x Jadimas Squad
* 1x Drach'nyen
* 2x Kamiel

AAtEYWVtb25pc3RhK7gCzwrPCvYI9gjRB9EH0gfSB9QH1AfuB/UH9Qf/DMILwgurBdoH2gfDEYsG1weIDIgMwhHCEfgH4xHFEdgH

The way I recruited this ragtag crew of Chaotic misfits was more or less like this: I started playing Ultramarines, actually (that's the faction that had their Campaign active when I joined HHL) and I got a couple of their Warlords. Efficiency-loving nerd that I am, I only opened Calth crates from the shop, since that's where Guilliman's boys are to be found…
… yet I soon got Book of Lorgar, and that sparked my interest in Word Bearers.
Browsing reddit (I kinda do that a lot, if I'm being honest… 😅), I found out that Raum was probably the best WL choice for a dirt-poor rookie like myself, and decided to partner with him for our trip to Terra.
I reached Terra with a no-Deamons deck (and Book of Lorgar as my single Legendary). I found Drach'nyen and Beast of Pyra from chests afterward; Drach nudged me into adding Priests of Old Faith into the mix. A few days ago the Bloodmasters showed up on the shop; off the cuff, I'd say Bloody was what gave the deck the final push to 3,000+.
And that's how I got to the crew you see above! =)
By the way, just for clarity's sake: getting to 3k with Raum is by no means the stuff of legends, so I'm in no way, shape or form saying this is the best Raum deck ever or anything like that – just sharing with other dirt-poor folks what worked for me, and some ideas on what to buy and/or what to replace, based on their collections.

***

About Raum

Raum is probably the simplest Warlord in HHL (he's got no activated ability), but also among the most restrictive when it comes to deck-building: you MUST have 15+ Chaos cards, or else you'll start as Argen Tal instead (and he's nowhere as good, at least in a deck like this). So, when you're working with a small collection, you're often forced to add weak Chaos (rather than stronger Word Bearer, IA, or Mech) cards to gain the Ruinous Powers' favors.
On the other hand, though, Raum's strong enough to carry pretty much any ragtag crew you throw his way to Terra, as he is the main star of the deck – as long as you can cobble together some units to play on curve, he'll do the rest.
But, of course, the stronger his crew, the better! =)

***

About our Deck

We're an aggro deck, so we're all about efficiency: we are always looking to play troops on curve the first three turns, and maximize face damage while managing their board.
As a rule of thumb, in the early turns it's Raum's job to keep the foe's board clear, and our troop's job to hit face – I'd say that, in the first three turns, the hardest part is the mulligan (more on this below), with the rest of the plays being (often…) fairly obvious.
By the 5E turn is where things start getting interesting, and where you'll have to decide whether to:
  • Ignore their board and just go face: This is often the correct play against midrange decks that play increasingly bigger dudes on curve. Past 5E or so, we have no hope to contest the board so it's usually face, face, face.
  • Go face with troops, while Raum and Kamiel handle the board: Usually the way to go against decks that try to race us – anytime Raum is close (or below) 12 health, you may want to pull the brakes a bit and consider who's the beatdown. If you clearly have the board by the 5E or 6E round while your foe seems intent on just hitting Raum, pull the brakes and take it slow, above all looking for opportunities for Raum to heal back up.
  • Go face with Raum, while your troops & Kamiel handle the board: Does't come up often, but Caliban decks are a thing.
The main rule of thumb I have is: we're a do-by-7E-or-die kinda deck. Sometimes we low-roll, or face decks that have too much healing & big boys, and we just lose and that's okay, that's the nature of card games – we don't have much of a chance once the really big guns show up on the board.
So, in short: when in doubt, go face.
And, remember: for an aggro player, the pinnacle of skill is to draw well.
Yes, really.
Always keep an eye on what cards you may draw next, above all if the match doesn't seem to be going your way.
For example, say you're in a slightly losing position in your 5E or 6E turn, and against a deck that has bigger units that you – rather than delaying the inevitable (ie fighting for the board; you have no hope here, since they'll drop increasingly bigger dudes), see if you can put your foe at Kamiel's range even if you don't have Kamiel in hand. More often than not you won't draw Kamiel next turn and you'll lose (which you were gonna do, anyway!) – but about 4-5% of the time you will Kamiel draw, and you'll win. And, even if just a tiny bit, that 4-5% in this spot does count for your win rate.
And, most important: by top-decking this way you'll tilt your foe to no end; that's an aggro player's second most important skill! =)

***

Mulligan

Personally, as rules of thumb:
  • I'm always looking for one 2E troop, one 3E troop or Book, and one 4E troop – in particular, I never keep three 2E troops in hand and always throw one away to find something a bit bigger (as noted above: drawing well is a skill! =),
  • If I have no 2E and no 3E, I'll mulligan away my whole hand (even if I have some of our best units, like Bloodmaster or Drach'nyen), and look for early plays – while not ideal, we may skip either our 2E or our 3E turn and stil be fine, but we're dead if we skip both,
  • I'll usually keep a 4E troop if I have a 3E play,
  • If going first (so, three cards in my mulligan) I never keep Drach in my opening hand unless I have a Priest; if going second, I may keep Drach if I have solid 2E and 3E plays.
  • I almost never keep Kamiel in my opening hand (it may be worth against those pesky Caliban decks, if I have early plays, but most of the time I'll trust my draw-well skills =).

***

The 2E Squad

This is the 2E gang that I'm bringing to the fray currently:
* 2x Boradol Squad
* 2x Dagotal Bikes
* 1x Secutarii Axiarch
* 2x Signus Fanatic
* 2x Undercover Cultist
* 2x Xesugal Squad
This slot is pretty flexible: bring anything you want/have. That's not to say they are all equally solid, of course (for quite some time I had to run Cultist Acolyte, which is as sorry as a 2E can be), but end of the day, just jam here whatever you have. 10-12 troops here should be about right.
I'll highlight three units in particular:
2x Xesugal Squad:
These guys are amazing, and probably a must-buy if you see them in the shop. Best 2E troop by a mile in our deck (and I suspect any WB deck, really).
2x Signus Fanatic:
You can get a lot of mileage out of Signy, above all if you haven't reached Terra yet – in my experience, folks in Mars and below tend to underestimate how big Signy can get if he's left unchecked. He's also pretty resilient against board-wipes: If you Signus Fanatic is at full health, you have other weaker troops on the board, and foe casts something like Rain of Fire (that will deal 2 damage to everything), Signus will survive, then heal to full (as your other weak units die), and then grow pretty big (given all our other folks dying).
2x Boradol Squad:
For the record, Boradol is the one unit that Lodge mate (and hugely more experienced player!) Dago is not too keen on our build, so take my take here with a big grain of salt.
I do like Boradol myself, since it has a lot of use cases including, and this is I think an important detail, the uses it may have with cards I don't have – I'm pretty sure some of my foes go out of their way to remove both Boradol and the Signus Acolyte they spawn because they fear I may drop some Word Bearer staples like Ashen Circle or Kurtha Sedd, or even Derenoth Squad (all of them triggering their Rally by killing an Infantry). And forcing foes into sub-optimal plays to keep our board clear (rather than allowing them the breathing room to go for more long-term value plays) is another key ingredient of an aggro deck.
So, all in all, quite happy with them thus far – but for sure, and as for every 2E here, feel free to swap around based on your collection & preferences!
Other 2E options:
End of the day, bring whatever you can fit. As said above, bear in mind Raum wants 15 Chaos cards in his deck, though; you'll prolly find that what restricts you most is your lack of more expensive Chaos cards, and may have to bear here with weak 2E troops just to fill your Chaos quota.

3E: Books & Troops

Below Terra, 3E troops are a bit like 2E troops: just jam here whatever you have. As long as you drop stuff on curve, Raum will take care of the rest.
Terran decks become a bit more efficient at countering your early pressure, though, and also put you on a faster clock, so your 3E crew will probably need to step up a bit.
Here's my current lineup:
* 1x Book of Lorgar
* 2x Priest of Old Faiths
* 1x Sor Bakhpal
* 2x Cultist Sorcerer
* 1x Plague Drone
* 1x Torgal Squad
* 1x Fiend of Slaanesh
From the PoV of card acquisition 3E is our most expensive slot (got two Legendaries here) but, while they are certainly very good, the deck works perfectly well without them (and, case in point, it's usually the case in practice: we rarely see more than 10-12 cards each game, and may go quite a few games without seeing our shinies).
1x Book of Lorgar:
This is the first Legendary I rolled, and what made me lean into Word Bearers (I mean, it is a very convincing book! =).
It's quite powerful (sometimes you roll a Bloodmaster on 3E and you just basically win), but even though we pack a few Daemons, the Book-Daemons synergy is actually not central to the deck.
I mean: yes, the synergy is obvious and quite powerful. But you if you happen to have the Book and no Daemons, you can still put together a very solid Raum deck (that's exactly what got me to Terra); and even if you don't have the Book, your deck will still benefit from some lesser D energy.
On the other hand…
2x Priest of Old Faiths:
Now, these guys, these are indeed here because of the Daemons, and particularly Drach'nyen – if you ain't got no D energy, you probably won't have much use for them Priests. In particular, notice that if you go first (which is what usually happens) the Priests don't let you play your 4E Daemons (Bloodmaster, Beast of Pyra) any faster.
(Priests being Duplicitous does come in handy for your kill-your-troops synergies; but is not a good enough reason by itself to include a 2-attack 3E troop, I think, if you've got something stronger to put here).
What Priests do allow are some explosive turns later (like Bloodmaster + Plague Drone on 5E if you have a Priest on the board), can be VERY good if going second (you get to play them on 2E, and follow-up with Bloody or Beasty on 3E)...
… and, above all, allow for Drach'nyen on 4E while also providing a Duplicitous fodder, and that's some really tough spot to put our foes in.
1x Sor Bakhpal:
Very good unit, and capable of some early you-just-win combos (Xesugal into Bakhpal being the most obvious one). But not central to the deck, just an excellent troop.
2x Cultist Sorcerer:
If you're opening Calth crates (which are the ones that have Word Bearer cards), you're bound to find these dudes. Their Sacrifice clause almost never comes into play (because our foe will most likely get rid of them on sight) but that's the point: we always want to force our foe to deal with our board ASAP, rather than giving them the time and wiggle room to go for long-term value plays.
Plague Drone:
Nowadays, Plague Drone may be low-key our best 3E troop.
It sure wasn't two weeks ago, with how Poison worked back then, above all because Warlords were immune to poison; but the way Poison has been reworked, Plaguey is a beast*.*
If played on curve, some inexperienced foes make the mistake of attacking it with their Warlord (but without killing Plaguey during their turn), thus allowing Plaguey to strike again, stack poison, and do silly amounts of damage. But, even against foes that know better, Plaguey either forces a sub-optimal play (in order to remove it) or threatens a solid 4 points of WL damage.
1x Torgal Squad & 1x Fiend of Slaanesh:
Just filler. Will swap for another Plaguey the second I get my paws on it. And I'd prolly prefer a second Torgal over the first Fiend (even if Fiend can be discounted by Priests, sometimes allowing you play Fiend + 2E troop on your 4E turn) but well, this is what I've got.
Other 3E options:
  • I ran Signus Adept (2/3, pays 1E to put a random 2E cultist in play) for most of my Mars climb; felt pretty "meh" even then, but if left unchecked he can put a lot of value on the board.
  • I haven't been too happy with Gorlem Squad (3/3, puts a Zealot in place, and as Relentless kills a friendly infantry to gain Daemonhost twice) – I'm not too sure why, to be honest, since on paper they seem very good for us (and I actually bought them in the Shop, assuming they'd push my deck up a notch), but they have thus far felt pretty meh. The 1/1 they put in play is usually no big deal for our foe to deal with, the Daemonhost traits they gain can be great (Survivor), but often are literally worthless (Flank) or not of much use (Ward) for units we plan to bash face with anyway. So, dunno… I want to like them, but thus far haven't managed to.

Time to Get Bloody: Our 4E slot

Alright, now we're getting to our bad boys!
* 2x Bloodmaster
* 1x Beast of Phyra
* 1x Dark Channelling
* 2x Jadimas Squad
* 1x Burning of Bodt
Let's start with maybe the baddest of them all, even if not the biggest:
Bloodmaster:
Guy's a monster. I mean, technically a Daemon, but anyway: I'm pretty sure he's one of the main reasons I got past 2800-2900 ranking points. Does everything we want:
  • Makes go-wide decks nervous (like those incredibly annoying Caliban Jaegers), since his pings will take down their weenies,
  • Makes go-tall decks sweat, since if dropped on curve Bloody can take care of pretty much any big-butted troop they may drop,
  • Makes just-gonna-play-my-WL-and-no-troops decks really, really dead in no time.
5 outta 5, would Bloodmaster again; buy 'em if you can.
Beast of Phyra:
Beasty was the first proper Daemon I got, and a slam-dunk inclusion back then. It's pretty solid, but the 3E maintenance is quite steep – Book of Lorgar into Beasty is of course a huge combo, but odds of it happening on curve are on the low end, of course. Bring Beasty along if you have it, but I think it's no big deal if you don't.
2x Jadimas Squad:
These dudes used to be amazing back when they spawned a Horsa Cultist. I actually took them out of the deck when the Sons of Horus expansion rotated a huge chunk of Chaos cards and made Jadimas spawn an Undercover Cultist instead, and for a time ran other cards.
Lodge mate Gmat made me see the light here, though – Jadimas is still a slam-dunk inclusion: the Undercover Cultists are still 2 damage (usually to face), sometimes help our curve a bit, are good Drach'nyen fodder, and Jadimas themselves are a must-remove threat.
1x Dark Channelling:
Now, perhaps the Meme Gods are tricking me here, but I love this one. I'll quickly concede that you add Channelling ONLY if you also play the Priests, but I'll otherwise die on the "Love one copy this card" hill.
Simply put: Priests on 3E, then Channelling on 4E either let you put two Daemons on the board, which is a huge tempo boost, or one Demon this turn and a discounted Bloody the next. And by itself, Channelling is not too terrible (although surely not amazing, to be certain).
1x Burning of Bodt:
Chaos has a lot of AoE options, both at 4E (Artillery Strike ) and 5E (Rain of Fire among others).
I used to pack several of these, mostly to fill my Chaos quota; I have progressively cut down to just Bodt (clears all those pesky Jaegers…), plus 2x Kamiel as we'll see below – replace or reinforce as your collection allows/requires.
Other 4E options:
  • I'm told by impeccable sources that Ashen Circle is amazing (or must-have, even) – sadly, got none myself (if I had, I can see myself leaning more heavily towards Infantry rather than Daemons, to make sure I can trigger their Rally on curve),
  • Derenoth Squad is very good, I think; I ran 2x for a very long time. They worked amazingly well in Mars (and their Rally was usually relevant), but as I climbed higher my foes became better at rarely giving me a target for it. Still, very solid troops, I think.
  • Discipline Master: Similar results & reasoning as Derenoth – great at Mars and below (that's to say, against less efficient decks that will often leave you with a board to work with), but not too great afterwards.

***

Top End: Drach & Kamiel

And here's our top end!
1x Drach'nyen:
THIS guy is the real reason to play Priests – if you don't have him, you probably are better off just ditching Priests (and Dark Channelling) and going for bigger troops instead.
Dropping Drach' on 4E is close to game over, though, and the Priests are also great afterwards, as sticky sacrifice fodder.
But, at any rate: yeah, this guy's great. I'm not sure if worth the 1600 gems, above all if your budget's tight (I rolled it off a crate), but holy crap he's amazing.
2x Kamiel:
This card went from great to MVP in our deck – never leave home without it!
Boardwipe, kills a big blocker, last bit of burn… Kamiel has it all.
The only reason it wasn't always the MVP for me during my climb to Terra is that, in order to fulfill your Chaos quota, early on I had to jam any half-decent Chaos card I had… and many of those Chaos cards were boardwipes (Artillery Strike, Rain of Fire, even Volcanic Instability for a time), making Kamiel's effect a bit redundant.
But, right now, yeah: Kamiel is all you need to get the job done. It also brings some interesting choices: you'll sometimes find that Raum and Kamiel have to team up in order to bring down some big-butted Front Liner (Raum himself is Unstoppable, so he can run circles around Front Line troops; but sometimes you'll also need the rest of your crew to hit face to achieve the kill, and the most efficient way to deal damage will be having Raum & Kamiel kill the big wall), and deciding if Kamiel or Raum gets the kill (hence either dealing 2 damage to the whole board, or healing Raum 2) is not trivial in some of these spots.
Must-have Tactic. Buy it if you see it, never leave Monarchia without it!
Honorable mention: Monster of Pythos (6E troop)
These big boys were in the deck all the way 'till Terra, and I'm always half-wanting to bring'em back – like the Cultist Sorcerer, they spawn from Calth crates, so you're bound to find them if you're after Word Bearer cards. Solid top-end, fills your Chaos quota, will serve you well until Terra and a bit above; past that, most decks put you under too much pressure for something that won't hit until 7E (and is a brick in your opening hand), and many of your foes will have ways to deal with a Stealth troop by the time your play it.
Other 5E options:
  • Bargothal Squad, Dark Brethren, Diabolist Vohl: I ran combinations of these folks through Mars and until low Terra; they did the job back then, but nowadays they all feel a tad too uneventful at 5E, against the foes I'm facing now – our 5E cards now need either be a really big bomb (Drach), or burn/wipe (Kamiel).
  • Kurtha Sedd seems like an obvious choice here, but, yeah, wish I had him. Like Ashen Circle, I guess he may nudge you towards a more Infantry-heavy deck.
  • I'm told by equally impeccable sources that Khazdrak is amazing (or must-have, too) – guess what: I ain't got none, sadly. =)

Wrapping Up

… aaand that's about it! =)
Raum is an amazing Warlord for those of us with a sketchy collection; he does require a good bunch of Chaos cards, but I think you can make him work with pretty much any decent bunch of cards.
Games with him tend to be nasty, brutish and short; not everybody's cup of tea, of course, but if you happen to like Events (which I dearly do), Raum has the added benefit of filling your three-win daily quota rather quickly.
Just remember: Keep up the pressure, and draw well…
… Raum will do the rest! =)

2023.03.28 12:16 Unconquered- When does rewards maximization become a pointless obsession?

I have a pretty extensive lineup of cards that at this point gets me 5% or more in every major category with no annual fee, yet I keep feeling the need to optimize just a tiny bit more.
For example, getting another Citi card to increase my custom cash redemption rate from 5% to 5.5%.
Then I realize that extra 0.5% amounts to $30 a year at best, and feel stupid for even putting thought into that.
Anyone else lose sight of the forest because of the trees like this?

2023.03.28 00:32 EvilDave219 Summary of the 3/27/2023 Vicious Syndicate Podcast (Core set discussion & Festival of Legends class card preview)

Listen to the most recent Vicious Syndicate podcast here - https://www.vicioussyndicate.com/vs-data-reaper-podcast-episode-125/
As always, glad to do these summaries, but a summary won't be able to cover everything and can miss nuances, so I highly recommend listening to their podcast as well. The final VS Report for March of the Lich King will be out Thursday, March 30th. There's a small chance we'll get a podcast sometime between now and the expansion release, but it's more likely this is the last podcast until Festival of Legends releases.
General - Final report for the March of the Lich King meta will be this week. ZachO will then take a "break" to work on expansion content for theorycrafting and the comprehensive preview of the new expansion. It seems like this go around they're holding back from showing all cards for individual classes until the final reveal stream on the 30th. VS got the DK card reveals at the last minute this week from Blizzard (which they are very thankful for); someone had canceled last minute and they got the cards a few hours before the VS Report went live.
ETC - ZachO spent hours analyzing ETC for the last report to see how it optimally fit into decks (if at all), and his conclusion is the card is still mostly bad, but putting in the right cards can make the card semi viable in certain decks instead of being a statistical abomination tanking your winrate. Hat chimes in that with all the analysis ZachO did, adding ETC with the correct band cards in the decks its optimal in (like Thief Rogue) is more of a sidegrade than an upgrade to those decks. There is no deck where ETC improves the performance of the deck, there's only decks that it doesn't hurt the winrate. ZachO personally thinks the only way ETC can ever be a game changer in a deck is if it's used in a manner to bypass a deckbuilding restriction to enable an archetype, rather than being a complimentary piece to anything.

Core Set

Overview - Full Core set was revealed this past week. Some of the biggest talking points: Tradeable is now an evergreen mechanic and is a key part of the Core set, Magnetic is back this year but not evergreen, Priest saw a decent overhaul due to the Overheal addition and Shadow being part of Priest's identity going forward (to no one's surprise, Hat is delighted Benedictus is staying), and the fact this is the first time we're getting meta relevant cards to stick around immediately after they were scheduled to rotate out (sorry Sunreaver Spy). There is a clear effort to raise the power level of every class and make them as well rounded as possible through the core set. With the exceptions of Radiant Elemental, Earthen Scales, and Brann, nothing impactful in the past few metas is rotating out (Armor Vendor is also noted as a direct upgrade to Mistress of Mixtures). It seems like Team 5 realized there's no point in keeping useless cards in the core set. Notable that the Core set will also be more flexible this time around, with Team 5 willing to rotate in and out cards if needed throughout the year. Brann got a lot of cards nerfed this year, so this is a great change. Also interesting they tried to add in Carnivorous Cube and Sunkeeper Tarim to the Core set, but they were too busted in their playtesting.
Demon Hunter - Metamorphosis at 4 mana may be relevant since it deals 8 damage over 2 turns. Illidari Studies is rotating back into Standard at a time where there's almost no bad Outcast cards in the pool, and only 2 of them cost more than 3 mana (Eye Beam which will typically cost 1, and Glaivesmith which just got buffed). Should be a huge addition to Outcast DH. Immolation Aura is a huge upgrade from Chaos Nova for more defensive DH decks. Unnerfed Kayn will probably see play in almost any aggressive DH deck. Exciting upgrades, even though the class got the fewest card changes of any class not including Death Knight.
Druid - Lunar and Solar Eclipses can slot into multiple Druid archetype (especially Ramp Druid), and the buffed Treants along with Witchwood Apple being reworked should be a buff to token decks. ZachO thinks Soul of the Forest to 3 mana will be quite relevant since it's been a somewhat bait-y card for the last 4 years in Druid. ZachO is disappointed they added Kiri into core without buffing it, because it never saw play at 4 mana. If Druid gets more big spells like Cenarion Ward, they could be dangerous with Solar Eclipse. Hat points out that thus far we haven't seen a lot of things Druid would want to ramp into, and it seems like they're pushing more 5 and 6 mana cards for Druid to play instead of just playing Nourish on 5 mana.
Hunter - Hat says Hunter's core set feels like it has less clear direction in what they're trying to push for the class compared to other classes. Cat Trick and Wandering Monster are big additions to their secret package. Secret Hunter may not be a thing, but these two secrets are some of the rare secrets that may be good enough to see play without additional secret support (Hat and ZachO disagree on this). Keeping Doggie Biscuit and getting Dragonbane is very relevant for the class. Jeweled Macaw, along with every other 1 drop random generator, got their health buffed. It seems like Team 5 doesn't want to give you a stat penalty for randomly generating a card, whereas they will if it draws a card like Knight of Anointment or Trinket Tracker. It may still not be good enough for constructed decks, but worth considering.
Mage - Keeping Fire Sale is great. Firelands Portal has been powercrept but may still see play due to the new Millhouse. Flame Geyser is now an Arcane Shot that adds a 1/2 to your hand. Arcane Artificer getting added back in indicates we'll probably see more big spell support for Mage. Stargazer Luna may not be quite as insane without Luna's Pocket Galaxy, but she'll be relevant in lower curve decks. Cards rotating out didn't see constructed play.
Paladin - No secrets in Paladin should make Paladin players happy. Hat points out that Paladin losing secrets also ironically makes Rogue worse. Team 5 isn't committing to never having secrets in Paladin again, but they want to see how the class plays without them. ZachO hates secrets for long term design, so he's happy with this decision. Truesilver now buffing you for 6 health over 2 swings will make players look at the card again. Consecration and Hammer of Wrath going to 3 mana will make you seriously look at putting them into constructed decks. Consecration could be a workable substitute for City Tax in Equality clear combos. Muster For Battle is arguably the best dude card of all time and getting Lothraxion will potentially make Dude Paladin work. Grimestreet Outfitter is now a Bannerman that doesn't draw a card but costs 1 less. Hand of Adal will also be a relevant card. Class got arguably one of the strongest Core sets.
Priest - With the Overheal cards, Crimson Clergy is the new substitute to Northshire Cleric, and Holy Champion is a potential Totem Golem at 2 mana now. Shadow Ascendent saw play as a 2/2 and becomes stronger with the health buff. Shard of the Naaru staying means Priest remains the premiere silence class. Catrina Muerta's change to only resurrect Undead signals we'll likely see support throughout the year towards re-summoning Undead in Priest. ZachO thinks this is a buff to the card. The old version could only be run in Big Priest decks, whereas this version lets you play it in any Priest deck running a few support cards (large Undead minions and Catrina). Priest is getting a lot of new proactive tools so it no longer has to be a purely reactive class.
Rogue - Shadowstep staying is the biggest news for the class, and ZachO is personally relieved. It seems like Team 5's philosophy is to not take away things that are fun and compelling for classes that are core to their identity, but to build around those things instead. Rogue is getting more secrets along with Hanar, although worth noting Hanar is now worse without Paladin secrets to discover. ZachO's not too excited about the individual secrets since Plagiarize and Cheat Death never saw relevant play. Eviscerate coming back makes sense with the amount of Combo support the class is getting and with Wicked Stab rotating. Hat loves the buff to Fan of Knives. Elven Minstrel saw play as a 3/2 and still sees play in Wild, so hard to imagine the buffed version not seeing play.
Shaman - Hex at 3 mana becomes a relevant card for single target removal and becomes an insane School Teacher option. Ancestral Knowledge going to 1 Overload makes ZachO happy (thanks Chakki). Shaman getting Zap back will be relevant for the Overload package they're printing this expansion. Overdraft staying in is a huge buff for Overload decks. Grand Master Eyesore and especially Thing From Below are a big buff for totem decks. Carving Chisel makes Thing From Below come out quick.
Warlock - ZachO thinks Warlock got the biggest strength boost of any class with the Core set changes. Defile is one of the best AoE cards of all time. The big demon package with Voidcaller is insane. Jailer and Malganis can checkmate certain decks. Spirit Bomb seems like a weird inclusion, but it may have synergy with the new 1 mana minion that makes you Immune.
Warrior - Warrior is getting some control support in the Core set, but ZachO isn't sure if it combined with what they're currently getting in the expansion will be enough to make it viable. Sword Eater is viable for both aggressive and more defensive Warrior decks. Amargadillo gets a +2 health buff to 8, which makes it a pretty beefy taunt. Heavy Plate staying in Standard gives Warrior additional armor gain. Woodcutter Axe is a pretty good update for modern Hearthstone. Warrior’s additions seem okay, but ZachO's disappointed that they didn't do more. Warrior seems like it has a vague direction based off what we've seen in their expansion card reveals so far.
Neutrals - Most impactful Legendary rotating out is obviously Brann. Armor Vendor is a direct upgrade to Mistress. Of the new neutral legendary cards, Dr. Boom is probably not good enough to see play in 2023, but Zilliax will be relevant, and ZachO personally thinks Blood Control DK would love to run Ragnaros. Black Knight is now a real tech card. Cult Neophyte was a heavily utilized card during its run in Standard. Hat is a little nervous that Rogue is getting all these bounce cards that can abuse Neophyte, but ZachO doesn't seem too worried since Neophyte was never a power outlier in Rogue decks. Dirty Rat is ZachO's least favorite card being added into Standard, even though he recognizes there are a lot of people who love the card. Dirty Rat has always been perceived to be more powerful than it actually is, so it will have a high playrate regardless of how it actually performs. It may be a likely candidate to rotate out of Core early because it could prove too frustrating for players with how it can lead to blowout games for either player. In addition to Zilliax, we're getting a few Magnetic mechs back, all which have been buffed. With the amount of 4/2 weapons being added in this expansion, Dread Corsair is going to be relevant. Tour Guide coming back is a huge deal for most classes. The largest impact to the Core set is Tinyfin rotating out for Snowflipper Penguin.

Festival of Legends Expansion Cards

Death Knight - Death Growl is the strongest DK card they've revealed. Insane synergy for Aggro Unholy DK between eggs and Chillfallen Baron. Card can also have late game implications with Cage Head. Questionable if Unholy DK can build a slower, reactive deck around Cage Head and Boneshredders though. ZachO's not a fan of Mosh Pit due to its corpse cost. It's a very slow card that can't be utilized on curve. Arcanite Ripper might be decent, but Harmonic Metal and Screaming Banshee might be better cards for Blood DK decks. Screaming Banshee can generate 10/10 in stats with a single Vampiric Blood. Card doesn't do anything the turn it's played, but it can generate so many stats it’s a must remove card. Blood Buff DK might be a thing with these cards. Interesting that every DK card revealed besides Cage Head is a single rune card, so theoretically all these cards can go into a Rainbow DK deck. Still seems like a stretch that Rainbow DK will be viable.
Demon Hunter - Glaivetar is the best DH card of the expansion, "and it's not particularly close." In Outcast DH Glaivetar can potentially draw 5-6 cards. Rush the Stage and SECURITY!! may also make Outcast DH viable. ZachO seems high on Snakebite, which in turn makes him like SECURITY!! even more. Snakebite can be a huge early game swing, cost 1 mana off Rush the Stage, and gets buffed when any minion dies, not just your own. Outcast DH has the theoretical tools to beat early game initiative focused decks, but still some question if it have enough tools to beat late game decks. Halveria Darkraven seems more suspect, although Hat likens it to a potential Bloodlust in the mid game. Halveria continuously buffing S'theno could be relevant. The rest of DH's revealed cards are very flavorful, but it doesn't seem like there's currently a deck that would run them.
Druid - The current focus of Druid seems to be split between big spells and treants. Summer Flowerchild is ZachO's standout card for the class so far. Timber Tambourine can summon 4 5/5s quite easily, which is a lot of stats to put on the board at once. Hat points out the synergy Green-Thumb Gardner has with the weapon since it's a free proc for the weapon. Most decks will not be able to deal with an instant board full of 5/5s.
Hunter - Arrow Smith is a weaker Flamewaker, but ZachO does think the card is very good. Bunch of Bananas and Barrel of Monkeys are like Twin Spells with 3 charges. Not quite sure what to do with these cards though. A 1 mana +1/+1 buff isn't great by itself, but the flexibility of Bunch of Bananas might make it more viable. Jungle Jammer is a decent weapon since it's a 4 mana 4/2 weapon.
Mage - DJ Manastorm can set up some big OTKs with your big burn spells like Pyroblast. Some question on how you build a defensive Mage deck that can get you to the big blowout Manastorm turn, but Solid Alibi is a card that's still in Standard. Infinitize the Maxitude is potentially infinite value but seems very clunky with its Finale condition. May only see play in Casino Mage.
Paladin - Hat thinks Spotlight is the best card that's been revealed so far. Paladin has no shortage of Divine Shields it can play on 1 mana, so this is a powerful turn 2 play on curve. Has a cute combo with Starlight Groove where if you use it on your hero's Divine Shield, it'll immediately generate it back. Annoy-o-Troupe should just be called Annoy-o-Lord. It's a stronger standalone card than Voidlord. If you don't have a silence or transform effect, it's nearly impossible to get through the taunts it generates. Lead Dancer and Kangor, Dancing King are the intended cheat effects to get it out earlier, but ZachO's not high on Lead Dancer and would rather pay 9 life to play it with Blood Crusader. Hat points out the synergy Kangor can have with some rush cards, and Mish-Mash Mosher and Amplified Elekk become Renos. ZachO's concern for a Big Paladin deck is that while cheating out an Annoy-o-Daddy can win games on the spot against faster decks, you need more than that to beat slower resource focused decks. The Countess or a different neutral card is what you'd have to tap into. Funkfin and Jitterbug are okay, but ZachO's not too high on them. Funkfin is not a good standalone card, and Jitterbug is a newer Cult Master that usually guarantees you 1 draw.
Priest - Priest’s set so far is a bit weird. It seems like they're encouraging a proactive Overheal deck, but ZachO is skeptical if you'd choose to go for this type of deck over Shadow Priest. Hat thinks Hearthrob is Evolve Shaman-esque and can build some big boards. ZachO is less optimistic since it's hard to cheat out a lot of healing in the early game, even though there are things like Fan Club that can help. ZachO thinks Power Chord: Synchronize is one of the better cards revealed as it’s a better Seance. Heartbreaker Hedanis may be the most interesting Priest card revealed since there could be some OTK implications with the card. ZachO's not too high on the Priest set.
Rogue - ZachO reiterates how important Shadowstep is to Rogue's set, and it's an important glue card that would make all the cards they've revealed for Rogue significantly worse without it. Disc Jockey is a one use Whirlkick Master. Its stats make it work well with Breakdance. The cards you want to bounce with Breakdance are different than the cards you want to bounce with Shadowstep; you want cards with high stats to bounce with Breakdance. Rhyme Spinner is the payoff for the bounce/combo archetype. Rhyme Spinner might be relevant for Miracle Rogue, especially in combination with Record Scratcher. ZachO loves that Record Scratcher has anti-synergy with Draka. ZachO calls Bounce Around overrated, and Hat says it's as overrated as little Scabbs was when it was first revealed. Best case scenario for Bounce Around is that it's a 3 mana Potion of Illusion. Unlike Potion, you lose all your minions on board and don't get 1/1 copies of them. Potion of Illusion also never saw play in a Rogue deck. There might be some combo implications for Bounce Around but forcing you to replay the minions on the same turn means it'll have limited utilization. Bounce Around will not see play in a Miracle Rogue type of deck. In ZachO's words: "You guys are overreacting."
Shaman - Shaman is getting an Overload theme this expansion. ZachO says he's tried to build and theorycraft an Overload Shaman deck based off what we've seen so far in the expansion reveal and Core set, but right now it feels like an incomplete deck. Seems like the deck wants you to play Jazz Bass, overload yourself, unlock your mana crystals and then cheat out an early Pack the House. It's an okay play, but it's not game winning. It's still not clear if Jazz Bass improves with each Overload card or each Overloaded mana crystal, but ZachO and Hat assume it's the former. Hat says we got a lot of good individual cards for Shaman, but it feels rough trying to slot them into decks. ZachO is high on JIVE, INSECT!, but the card alone likely won't enable a deck archetype. The most ideal play with it is getting a Ragnaros and then playing Criminal Lineup to OTK your opponent, but that's a highly copium play. Inzah feels disappointing, and Hat wishes it was a 4 mana 4/4. Shaman doesn't have the burn to execute an OTK strategy with Inzah.
Warlock - ZachO thinks Rin, Orchestrator of Doom will be bad, but see lots of play. Hat likens it to Tickatus. Given we've barely seen any of Warlock's expansion set, but the cards they're getting added into Core are much more exciting than the cards they're getting this expansion. Chadlock with Malganis looks spicy.
Warrior - ZachO thinks Warrior is unjustifiably getting a bad rep. Verse Riff, Chorus Riff, and Bridge Riff play off of each other, but playing your first riff is very mediocre. It feels like relics from DH, but unlike relics there's no late game scaling with riffs. The best thing about the package is that even if it's bad, it's very easy to buff by just cutting a mana cost from each card. Team 5 wants Warrior to play these cards, so ZachO can't imagine a scenario where they don't buff the cards if they turn out to be bad. Blackrock n Roll got so much hate from the playerbase, but ZachO says this card is better than Bounce Around. He thinks Blackrock n Roll is more likely to create a meta defining deck in the future than Bounce Around. Blackrock is like a "hobo Pocket Galaxy" where it can turn your minions into huge game winning threats. ZachO can envision a Control Warrior deck playing Blackrock alongside Lor'themar Theron, which will make any minion you play potentially game winning. After Blackrock, Zilliax becomes an 8/7 and can be tutored out and buffed more with Last Stand, which can be a huge swing. Trenchstalker buffed by the card can end games. ZachO thinks it's "inevitable" that the card becomes good, and gives it a 4/4. He thinks the only way the card isn't viable is if Warrior doesn't get any early game survival tools. Tony Warrior still might be the best deck for the class, but if that's the case it seems unlikely that it doesn't get nerfed if it is meta defining.

2023.03.28 00:30 EvilDave219 Summary of the 3/27/2023 Vicious Syndicate Podcast (Core set discussion & Festival of Legends class card preview)

Now the tedious part; adjusting your league's ratings to reflect real life NFL. Manage Roster, NFL Rosters, go to the QB's and cycle each team:

ALL STARTING QBs GET -10 INJURY.
ALL STARTING QBS UNDER PLAYER TRAITS MUST HAVE EITHER POCKET OR SCRAMBLING, BALANCED DOES NOTHING!!! THIS COMPLETELY CHANGES CPU QB BEHAVIOR. ASSIGN POCKET TO YOUR OLDER OR NEVER RUNNING QBs (BRADY, COUSINS, STAFFORD, ETC). ASSIGN SCRAMBLING TO ALL OTHER QUARTERBACKS!! THIS WILL NOT MAKE THEM PLAY LIKE LAMAR, IT WILL MAKE THEM TRY TO SCRAMBLE FOR FIRST DOWNS WHEN ALL RECEIVERS ARE COVERED.
Now for the QB's that you do want to play like Lamar and run all over the place, after the first two steps add this:

House Rules: NO CHEESING!!!

Major trade would be any starter being moved, any 1st or 2nd round draft pick, etc.
Can trade for any playepick. Can draft any player. CAN ONLY SIGN SCHEME FITS DURING FREE AGENCY (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WR & DB, YOU CAN SIGN ANY OF THESE).
You can only hire/fire staff during the Staff Week each season and only this week. You may also change team schemes on offense and defense during this week, but only this week.
YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR TRADE BLOCK WEEKLY TO BE INVOLVED WIH THE CPU TRADING AROUND THE LEAGUE MID-SEASON.

Responsible Control of QB Carousel:

Teams will lose their franchise QBs for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, they simply don't have the money to retain them. If it's a league star and more of a shocking release to free agency, i'll just make up a story about an off the field incident. But you CANNOT let the CPU teams with bad QBs control themselves in free agency. Sadly because of this your offseasons will be long and tedious, you will have to sign according to the rules for about 5-6 teams each year. This is the only way to prevent CPU franchises from stocking up with 4 70+ OVR QBs.

How to Play

Please take the time to try these out, a LOT of hours went into testing and tweaking. Thank you & Enjoy!

2023.03.27 19:55 Amazon_UK The most efficient lineups for every type of rocket grunt.

Rocket grunts are tedious and mindless so my goal is to get through them as fast as possible. I've compiled a specific team for every single grunt that is designed to win by fast move pressure and then throwing a charged move against the final Pokemon (except for winning is for winners grunts, which are a bit tricky). This means you want movesets with the highest damaging fast move available, even if the overall DPS is slightly less than other movesets.

Generally, this will only take a maximum of two Pokemon so slot 3 can be your buddy for the buddy heart. The Pokemon in slot 1 is the main damage dealer. The Pokemon in slot 2 is reserved in case you get an unoptimal lineup for slot 1. Some Pokemon are about equal in strength so will be separated via slash in the same slot.

Grunt Type Slot 1 Slot 2 Slot 3
Bug Shadow TyranitaRampardos
Ice Shadow Machamp/Shadow Blaziken Reshiram
Rock Kartana Shadow Machamp Shadow Metagross
Normal Shadow Machamp + Rampardos (for Pidove) Shadow Blaziken
Flying Shadow TyranitaRampardos Shadow Mamoswine Shadow Raikou
Steel Shadow Machamp/Shadow Blaziken Shadow Entei
Psychic Shadow Tyranitar
Water Kartana/Shadow Raikou
Grass Shadow Entei/Reshiram
Fire Shadow Gyarados/Kyogre
Fighting Shadow Mewtwo/Shadow Gardevoir
Electric Shadow Mamoswine Excadrill
Fairy Shadow Metagross
Ghost Shadow Tyranitar
Poison Shadow Mewtwo
Dragon Shadow Gardevoir Shadow Dragonite Shadow Mamoswine
Ground Kartana Shadow Gyarados/Kyogre
Dark* Excadrill (for Alolan Grimer) Shadow Machamp
Magikarp Kartana
Snorlax: Pick some combination that can deal with the first snorlax whether it has lick or zen headbutt, and then clean up the potential second and third. Use some combination of Lucario, Shadow Machamp, Shadow Mewtwo, Shadow Gardevoir, and Shadow Dragonite
Starter:** Better to use a generalist than be specialized. Use Shadow Dragonite or Shadow Mewtwo

*Current dark lineup can only start with alolan grimer, so shadow mamo/excadrill is optimal, but it's usually shadow machamp. Information is false. Still though, start with shadow mamo/excadrill, and then swap to shadow machamp if its not alolan grimer.
**Against the starter grunts(male winning is for winners), might just want to throw any sort of type advantage out the window and just go for straight DPS with Shadow Mewtwo Deleted old lineup, too specialized as pointed out by u/cwizz1.
Notes:

Let me know if I made any mistakes. For me personally my current goal in the game is to achieve these lineups so would love any corrections.

Switching back over to the defensive side of the ball here in week two of our positional draft rankings, we go from the wide receivers to the guys that will be lining up across from them on Sundays – the cornerbacks. I project most of these names to play outside primarily, but some of them may end up moving inside for their future team. However, I did not include names like Alabama’s Brian Branch or Illinois’ Jartavius Martin, who did line up in the slot for the most part in college and may also do so in the NFL, but project better as safeties, if they did side into another role.
Similar to the wide receivers, this is an incredibly deep group and I had to study more than 30 guys, in order to feel comfortable about my ultimate rankings. However, the difference is that we have two legit top-ten overall prospects and there are at least four other names worthy of being discussed in the first round. Beyond that, I think the rest of my top-ten and even the two names in the “just missed” category should be off the board after round two. And once again, we are far from done, in terms of guys I believe will find their way onto an NFL field.
I don’t want to waste any more time now and discuss this group:

1. Devon Witherspoon, Illinois

6’0”, 180 pounds; SR

Not having started playing football until junior year of high school, despite having 11 interceptions his final year there, Witherspoon started his career at a junior college originally as a zero-star recruit, but after some trouble with his grades in high school, he got his SAT scores in order to make himself eligible and join Illinois. There he was a special teams ace early on before earning his way into the starting defensive lineup. He already had some very impressive tape in 2021 (nine PBUs and eight TFLs), but last year he picked off three passes and broke up another 14, en route to being named first-team All-Big and All-American.

+ Clearly has a chip on his shoulder and brings an attitude to the table
+ Plays with a ton of pride and confidence, taking on different assignments and moving around the field
+ The explosiveness from his track background and the high jump show up all over his game
+ Drives forward out of his backpedal with great conviction and is ready to make a play on the ball or deliver a big hit, unlike very few corners I’ve ever watched
+ On spot/hitch routes with deep responsibility, if he’s allowed to attack upfield, you see him arrive basically simultaneously with the ball a lot of times
+ Yet, while he likes to aggressively break on routes, you don’t typically see him for fall double-moves, where the receiver just tries to give a little head-fake or stutters his feet on fades
+ Even on deep curls and comebacks, where you’re trying to make Witherspoon completely open up his hips, quarterbacks aren’t really comfortable with throwing his way, because he may cover that distance in the time the ball travels through the air
+ When isolated on the perimeter, once receivers have committed to their release, Witherspoon lands some effective stabs to widen their path and reduce space to work with, whilst having his eyes locked on the hips of his man
+ If they go across his face on inside breakers, he does not concede the middle of the field and forces them to play through his punch, sometimes completely throwing them off balance
+ Not somebody who you’re going to pick on by hitting receivers off full-sprint motion across the field, because he’ll trail his guy with the speed to shut those plays down for minimal yardage

+ Understands where his leverage is, where to expect breaks and when to turn vertically in match-zone coverage
+ Plus, he funnels receivers towards his safeties when there’s a secondary threat working towards his area
+ Lined up in the slot for 107 snaps last season and showed the ability to turn with slot fades, as well as mirror stems towards the middle, while being alert for breaks out to the sideline
+ As he sees the receiver turn his head down the sideline and adjust his speed or tries to create a little bit of extra separation, Witherspoon looks back for the ball and tries to actively play it in the air
+ Yet he can also put a hand right in-between the receiver’s paws to knock it up for grabs, timing up when he swipe-throughs very well
+ Had a great pick against Wyoming matched up with a slot fade, turning his head and picking it off at the sideline
+ Allowed only 22 receptions for 200 yards and no touchdowns on 425 coverage snaps and 63 targets (one reception in press-man), while forcing 18 incompletions and picking off three passes, leading to a 92.5 PFF coverage grade

+ Doesn’t stay blocked in place, but regularly bench-presses receivers inside and gets involved on tackles, at times up the C-gap
+ If he’s the unblocked force defender, he will shoot into the backfield and chop down bigger ball-carriers, which resulted in a crazy eight TFLs in 2021
+ You actively see him work around blockers, regularly eluding them altogether, trying to get to the ball, when he could easily just stay out on the perimeter and hold his ground
+ Absolutely destroyed Indiana’s running back on a little swing screen in 2022, immediately shooting downhill once he saw that guy go in motion and he knew what was coming based on studying tape
+ Was used as a blitzer off the corner a few times, where he times up the snap well and plays with ferocious pursuit

– Has a tendency of playing a little bit tall in his pedal and isn’t as comfortable in true off-man
– Because he has more of that lanky build, guys are able to create some separation on deep comebacks and stuff like that, since it takes him a little bit of time to pivot and redirect
– Does get pretty handsy when receivers are able to attack the edges of his frame and needs to fully turn his back to the quarterback, And some of the ways he “catches” receivers down the field when playing off will draw flags at the next level for illegal contact (six penalties in ’22)
– NFL athletes may lead him to more missed tackles with how regularly he doesn’t break down from sprinting pursuit, And he has moments of just going head-first and not using his arms as a tackler, which also may be a health concern long-term

If you’re looking for a corner that plays with an extreme level of confidence and has “that dog in him”, Witherspoon is your guy. He can both stick to receivers off the line in press-man or read patterns in zone and disrupt the catch point consistently. My only legit concern with him is how easily he’ll be able to adjust his playing style in order to avoid penalties at the next level, and I don’t know if an off-man heavy system is the greatest fit for him, because of the way he initiated contact past the five-yard mark. Yet, the way he can match great athletes as a true boundary corner and how aggressively he supports against the run are a defensive coordinator’s dream. He’s one of the rare guys at the position, who I believe have the mentality to be a number one right away.

2. Christian Gonzalez, Oregon

6’1”, 200 pounds; JR

A four-star recruit for Colorado in 2020, Gonzalez started all six games of his COVID-shortened true freshman campaign and finished second on the team with five passes broken up. The following season, he was out with the one’s for all 12 games and once again recorded five PBUs, along with another 5.5 tackles for loss. He decided to transfer to the Ducks ahead of 2022 and it paid off in a major way. He became a first-team All-Pac-12 performer, with four passes intercepted and seven more broken up.

+ Has those prototype press-man corner measurements and was regularly asked to challenge the opposing team’s number one receiver at the line whilst at Colorado
+ Oregon ran a lot more cover-three, where we saw him fall off his guy on the outside, but there were still several impressive reps in isolated coverage
+ Uses a very patient approach at the release point and lands those one-handed stabs at the pec of receivers consistently, to push them towards and then guide them along the sideline, where any space to fit the pass into is taken away
+ Along with that, he incorporates some fake jams to keep receivers off balance trying to come off the ball
+ Routinely is on top of his man down the sideline and is looking back at the quarterback, to not allows guys to detach, but also being right there in position to defend throws to the back-shoulder
+ For a tall corner, Gonzalez is loose enough to swivel his hips and attack against targets breaking towards the middle of the field, He has some highly impressive reps, where he opens to the outside and gets right back into the hip-pocket of receivers to cut off dig routes
+ I think in general, you can see that he is frustrating receivers with not allowing them to get to the edges of his frame, and because he can keep his body in their way to some degree, he feels comfortable tracking the ball in the air whilst being engaged with those guys
+ Had a couple of great reps against Stanford WR Michael Wilson, negating vertical releases on go routes and playing the ball in the air, as well as wrap around them on shorter breaks

+ Even in zone-coverage, Gonzalez doesn’t typically allow the guy across from him to stem routes in uncontested fashion
+ Has the speed to run with guys down the sideline, as well as carry them down the post and stay in phase, despite having outside leverage in cover-three/-four
+ Displays high football IQ in the what he presents to quarterbacks, sometimes that he’s gain ground in a quarter-turn, but then squaring his hips and contesting throws underneath, when they’re in cover-two and there’s a safety over the top
+ Allowed 39 catches on 64 yards last season, with those four INTs and nine more forced incompletions (81.4 PFF coverage grade), compared to three touchdowns
+ Even on a lot of those catches he did allow, he was right there in positive and tried to not get called for interference
+ Will only turn 21 years old at the end of July, with room to still fine-tune his spacing due to limited experience in zone coverage
+ Had an excellent all-around showing at the combine, with a 4.38 in the 40, a 41.5-inch vert (tied for second among CBs) and 11’1” broad jump (tied for fourth)

+ When runs come out to the edge and he becomes the force defender, he’s pretty effective at chopping down ball-carriers at their feet
+ Uses those long arms to keep receivers from getting into his frame as blockers
+ And I thought he became a bigger hitter and more physical player altogether in 2022
+ Missed only three of 53 tackling attempts last year, where his long arms to wrap up and hold onto guys is a benefit

– Lacks a certain physicality to hold his ground and win in contested-catch situations, as well as being vulnerable to push-offs
– His success rate at raking the ball out of the hands of receivers is pretty low, once they get their finger-tips on it
– Has to be a little bit quicker to recognize crack toss plays and screens coming towards him
– Not overly interested in coming off blocks and chasing hard to get involved on tackles in the run game or when the ball goes away from him

While Gonzo may not be the type of junkyard dog Illinois’ Devon Witherspoon is, everything just comes so easy to this guy. The fluidity, the acceleration and long-speed to run with guys effortlessly, his length and vertical prowess to compete at the catch point – there’s just not much you can throw at him that really creates problems. Now, for as much athletic confidence as he radiates and I’d feel very confident leaving him one-on-one with the X-receiver for the majority of four quarters, he doesn’t really make his presence felt physically. He’s not a plus in run-support for what you expect from that spot, you don’t see him squeezing down route patterns as a zone-defender and there’s definitely guys who are feistier at attacking the ball. If his future coaches can get that “alpha mentality” out of him, he has legit All-Pro potential.

3. Joey Porter Jr., Penn State

6’3”, 195 pounds; RS SO

The son of long-time Steelers linebacker Joey Porter Sr., this 2019 four-star recruit barely saw the field as a freshman, but then in eight games of 2020, Joey Jr. recorded four PBUs and two TFLs. He got his first pick, along with four more PBUs the following season. This past year, he really made a name for himself breaking up 11 passes in just ten games, which he was named first-team All-Big Ten and second-team All-American for.

+ Probably the longest corners I’ve ever watched, at 6’2” and ½ with a full 34-inch arms
+ Very patient off the line, along with the reach to land one-handed stabs without having to compromise his base
+ Does well to forcefully stab with the inside hand and sustaining contact with receivers in press-man coverage (from inside shade) – You regularly see him ride receivers into the white on fade routes
+ Stays sticky against crossers and dig routes typically and has the hip fluidity to make those 180-degree turns when routes break away from the initial stem
+ Does not seem worried about getting run by and sticking in trail technique and he’s way lighter on his feet than you’d think and he stops his weight without an issue to match receivers, ready to stop once he feels the break coming
+ Not looking out of place matching up with tight-ends as the single receiver in three-by-one sets, being ready to greet them with those tentacles of his
+ On 30 targets last season, only 15 were completed for 143 yards and no touchdowns, while he actively forced 12 incompletions
+ And only 68 yards came across 106 snaps in press-man

+ For a tall corner, Porter’s ability to redirect and drive on quick-breaking routes from off-alignment is pretty impressive
+ His length and ability to cover ground make him a very tough guy to stretch with high-low concepts when he’s the flat defender in cover-two
+ You see him re-route the outside receiver and guide him towards the safety on fade routes, while still being able to make plays on the ball on the out route of the slot, where offenses try to put him in conflict like that – Nearly had a pick-six on one of those in the ’22 season opener vs. Purdue
+ Very competitive and strong at defending the catch point in box-out situations – Trying to throw goal-line fades against this guy isn’t a good idea, because he has the physicality, length and competitive spirit to rake the ball out at any moment, even if he doesn’t bat it away initially
+ Has the extra gear to re-enter the picture after receivers seem to have a step on him breaking to the post with him in deep responsibility
+ Porter had six(!) PBUs in the ’22 opener against Purdue, where the QB clearly didn’t judge right what kind of range and reach he has

+ His long arms make it nearly impossible for receivers to get into his frame as blockers in the run game
+ Yet, he can dip the near-shoulder as guys work out towards him, to funnel the ball back inside
+ And if there’s a crease between blockers in the screen game, he can rapidly shoot through and throw those off
+ Those burners also show up when he runs down ball-carriers at full stride

– Does get turned around more regularly than you’d like to see and he could draw more flags when he grabs because of it at the next level (three penalties vs. ten in 2021)
– Can be a little undisciplined at times in zone coverage and not continue to gain depth, if he feels like the deep route to his side is off the table
– Not dying to get involved in tackles, even though he’d have the size to crash through blockers and shows that at times – earned a PFF grade of just 53.2 against the run this past season
– When blitzing off the edge or replacing one of his teammates as the unblocked defender, way too often you see him clutching for air, as he’s trying to set the tackle – missed six of 33 attempts last year (17.6%)

When you draft Porter Jr., you know what you want him to be – a physical press-corner with historic length and plus all-around athletic traits. You can ask him to play straight bump-and-run, he can play press-bail or throw off the timing of concepts along with adding range in a more cover-two heavy system. I don’t think he’ll have quite the same success like a similarly long corner in Tariq Woolen from last year’s class if you also stick him in a quarters-based scheme, but this is still an ascending talent, with just one season, where he seems to have gotten “it”. There’s certainly room to become more disciplined with avoiding penalties and becoming a more reliable tackler in the run game, but considering his bloodlines and the natural gifts he has, I think you feel comfortable maybe giving him a year to acclimate himself to the pro game, because of what the pay-off can be. I don’t see him making it out of the top-20.

4. Cam Smith, South Carolina

6’1”, 185 pounds; RS JR

A four-star recruit in 2019, Smith barely saw the field as a true freshman, before logging two interceptions and PBUs each the following season in eight games. In his first full season as a starter in 2021, intercepted three passes and broke up another 11, along with 2.5 TFLs and a forced fumble. This past year, he only defensed six passes (one pick), but still was regarded as one of the top corners in the SEC, where he made second-team all-conference as a junior.

+ Picked up right where Jaycee Horn left off for the Gamecocks in 2021, as he picked off three passes, broke up 11 more and finished with an 89.7 coverage grade
+ Last year those numbers dipped a little bit, but he still only allowed 47.4% of throws his way to be completed and was responsible for a passer rating of 71.3, whilst spending almost exactly a third of snaps in a tough slot role
+ Plays a lot of soft press for the Gamecocks, where his fluidity and balance is highly impressive for a lanky corner, but then he also provides that length and physicality to deny receiving easy access to the edges of his frame
+ You regularly see him force the X into the boundary, with no space to fit the ball into him or just to make them kind of quit on their route
+ Even if he misses the jam, Smith is loose enough to cross over with that inside leg and not really get out of phase
+ Plus, then he can stop his momentum exceptionally well against curls and comebacks with efficient footwork
+ Against guys releasing inside, Smith typically makes sure to attach to the near-shoulder of the receiver and feels the break coming, to stick in the hip-pocket
+ You see Smith back-pedal ten yards and not look uncomfortable doing so, unlike many other tall corners

+ When sinking in cover-three, Smith’s eyes are on the slot receiver and he’s ready to fall off for inside fades/seam routes
+ As a flat defender, his length and ability to mid-point routes makes it very dangerous to hit deep outs and corner routes against him
+ With his ball-tracking skills, he can be leveraged outside in deep zone responsibility and still get back underneath the wideout on post routes, to catch the ball over his shoulder himself – Had a great pick that way against Clemson in 2021, working out of the slot
+ Shows the comfort when tangled up with receivers down the field, to bring his head around and attack the ball in the air, However, when he needs to play through the hands of the target, he can typically do so without prematurely interfering
+ Going back to the 2021 East Carolina game, he had an incredible play, arm-barring the receiver on a fade route and getting a hand on the ball to the back-shoulder, the opponent nearly bringing it in off the rebound, only for Smith to punch it out anyway
+ Across his two seasons as a starter with the Gamecocks, Smith has allowed just 33 of 70 targets for 395 yards and three TDs vs. four INTs
+ Tested better than expected at the combine, with a 4.43 in the 40, a 38-inch vert and an 11’2” broad jump (96th percentile)

+ Does a good job of maintaining vision on the ball-carrier as he’s engaged with blockers and sliding to the right side, to at least hold that guy up
+ Accelerates up into the flats and shoots through the legs of guys in the screen game for some splash plays
+ Smith shuffles his feet and shoots his hips through opponents to be a pretty effective space tackler one-on-one
+ Delivers knockback on ball-carriers who are already wrapped up and Smith finishes off the play – He iterally jumps on top of piles at the end of plays
+ Was blitzed off the corner later in games, when opponents were trying to close out wins with the run game

– Lacks the elite athletic traits (explosion, top gear) that you usually see from the very best at the position – he was just petrified by the speed of Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt and while shadowing him, he consistently played 10+ yards off on him
– His tendency of initiating contact with receivers further than five yards down the field when he doesn’t actually press will lead to a transition phase with NFL rules
– And overall, I thought when guys released against his leverage, he tends to tug their jersey for a moment, which rarely got called
– While he’s been much more effectively recently, he does have a 16.3% career missed tackle rate, too often relying on being able sling or drag guys to the ground
– Dealt with several minor injuries, that put him on the sideline for stretches of games

I don’t believe Smith is quite at the same level of an athlete as the top-three names on consensus boards, but when you look at the last two years, arguably nobody has a better resume in coverage than him. South Carolina trusted him to lock up the opposing team’s number one receiver – similar to some of the other great corners they’ve had there – and he consistently got the job done. I think his future team will need to protect him a little more, in terms of not leaving him isolated against rue speedsters, but if he can tone down his aggressiveness a little bit in terms of grabbing cloth and wrapping up accordingly as a tackler, he can continue to frustrate opponents with his length, physicality and competitive mindset.

https://preview.redd.it/1d1t3gcp33qa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e696b539804780658531efede38dc6abd3d3e0b

5. Deonte Banks, Maryland

6’2”, 205 pounds; RS JR

A top-1000 overall recruit in 2019, until this past season, Banks actually played the most games as a true freshman (11 games, 8 starts), when he had one interception and a couple of PBUs, since Maryland only played five games in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign and he then was lost for the following season two games in. Last year he made a name for himself, with another pick and eight PBUs, while drawing the eye of the scouting community.

+ Was a true press-man corner for the Terps – Spent all but 13 snaps on the perimeter last season
+ Shows advanced understanding for receiver splits, which routes to expect and to protect against those with the technique he uses
+ Utilizes independent hand jams and re-routing tools, to keep guys across from him off their game
+ Stays patient against delayed releases and packs a mean jam to throw guys off balance when they do ultimately commit
+ Has the speed to frequently blanket go routes in man and not allow receivers to detach vertically down the post, even when he plays with outside leverage in cover-three/-four
+ Can gather and re-accelerate very well, to not allow guys to create separation on double-moves
+ For a long corner, Banks can roll his hips and get underneath deep in-breakers very well, after flipping with the outside release initially

+ Plays to his leverage and doesn’t overreact to route stems, intended to pull him off his land-marks in zone coverage
+ Communicative player with passing off assignments in that regard and the explosiveness to attach to secondary targets approaching his general space
+ Recognizes when he can fall off onto seam routes in cover-three and has the length to disrupt the catch point, as he arrives there late
+ Does not panic with his back to the football and consistently punches through the hands of his man
+ That competitiveness at the catch-point is apparent when the catch seems to be secured and he keeps trying to rip it out
+ Received a 73.1 PFF coverage grade in 2022, with 13 forced incompletions and that one INT, allowing only 26 completions on 60 targets, although four of those ended in touchdowns

+ Actively condenses the edge when unblocked in the rum game and has no issues making stops on-on-one as ball-carriers try to get around the edge
+ Willing, effective tackler, with just one total miss this past season on 39 attempts
+ There are several moments watching Banks’ tape, where his joy for the game and energy is apparent
+ Had a tremendous combine showing, where he ran a 4.35 in the 40, led all corners with a 42-inch vertical & was second in the broad jump at 11’4″, He also had an excellent on-field workout, where he stayed low in his pedal, was able to drive out of it with explosion and flip his hips without issues, despite that longer build, And he caught the ball with confidence throughout

– Probably not the best fit for a quarters or off-man heavy scheme, because there is a bit of a delay at times when trying to click-and-close on routes in front of him, if he has to gain depth initially
– Still has room to improve his ability to maintain contact through the release in press-technique, rather than shooting his hands and then turning with guys
– Consistently plays the man and rarely tracks the ball in the air to attack it, while getting flagged a few times for raking through the receiver’s hands a split-second early
– There are too many plays, where he’s in phase, but receivers are able to adjust to the pass in the air and Banks doesn’t contest the catch enough or even tries to find the ball
– Allows receivers to get into his frame too much as blockers and then has a tough time disengaging from those

This is a name that has just continued to rise throughout this pre-draft process and moved up my rankings, the more I watched of him. Banks is a prototype outside corner, with the aggressive mindset to throw off the timing off routes, but also being springy enough to not allow guys to separate if they have the edge off the line, along with the burst and length to close any distance late. There’s certainly room for improvement in his press-technique and you’d like to see him want to make plays on the ball more regularly, but if you put him in a system, where he can dictate routes early on and not have make to transitions from off-alignments regularly, I think he be an excellent starter at boundary corner for a long time. With the way he tested in Indy, I don’t see a way he makes it out of the first round at this point.

6. Kelee Ringo, Georgia

6’2”, 205 pounds; RS SO

The number one overall cornerback recruit in 2020, Ringo took an initial redshirt with the loaded DB room of the Bulldogs. In his first season as a starter, he broke up eight passes and intercepted another two, including the game-sealing pick-six in the national title game versus Alabama. In 2022 he was a fixture in the lineup and was named second-team All-SEC, with two more INTs, seven PBUs, two sacks and a forced fumble.

+ One of the most massive college corners you will ever find and plays up to that size
+ Can maul some smaller receivers off the line and not allow them to get into their release at all
+ Has the physicality and length to negate slant routes and ride guys along trying to access the inside in general
+ If he can attach to the hype of receivers on vertical routes, with those 4.36 wheels, you don’t see guys gain a step on him
+ His speed allows Ringo to stay glued to his man on quick crossing routes, where he should be at a disadvantage bases on alignment alone
+ When put in the slot, he showed the ability to stick with those inside fade routes despite all the space to work with
+ The recovery burst for a guy that almost like a linebacker esthetically is pretty insane
+ Bends off the near-foot to the WR very well for how big he is, to not overrun the break-point too far
+ Allowed just a 40.7% completion percentage in coverage in 2021
+ While his junior campaign didn’t quite live up to the hype, Ringo had a tremendous showing against TCU’s Quentin Johnston in the national title game, where his only catch (for three yards) came on a little slip screen and Ringo was glued to him for the most part

+ Does well to mid-point routes in two-high shells and rarely allows easy completions in front of him
+ Well-coordinated at gaining plenty of ground without crossing over his legs in those three-quarter turns
+ Showcases exceptional ball-skills for any defensive player, with the ability to track over either shoulder and attack passes at their highest point
+ Made an impressive interception in what proved to be a dominant performance for the defense against Tennessee’s then-number one scoring offense (in a matchup of two top-three ranked teams), where he basically ran the fade route for Cedric Tillman and made an over-the-shoulder grab look easy
+ Even if it appears receivers have the catch secured, when he initiates contact and punches at the ball, he knocks it loose quite regularly

+ Incredibly physical tackler for the position, who often times becomes the one setting the tone at contact with running backs
+ You see several tackles, where he actually drives guys backwards and puts them on their backside, which is rare for a corner
+ If offenses motion the wideout in tight and pull him into the box, he’s not a negative there, being able to set the edge against tight-ends
+ Was blitzed off the corner a few times, where he showed the ability to beat tight-ends with a strong rip-through trying to fan out to him, or slip inside, if they overset
+ Will only turn 21 years old at the end of June, with just two years of collegiate experience

– Even though you want Ringo to take advantage of his crazy physicality in a press-man role, in 2022 he didn’t show the anticipation for how receivers want to release, land his stabs accordingly and shuffle in front of guys, so he can match them, which led to him being in catch-up mode and relying on his athletic tools to recover too often
– Simply has to become better with mirroring releases and cutting off angles for receivers, to not allow opponents to be a step ahead of him
– Gets way too aggressive with jersey tugs at the top of routes and will regularly draw flags because of it
– Well-schooled receivers can deceive him peak-techniques and more intricate routes, where he gets lost for a moment
– Can be a little undisciplined with falling off his landmarks in zone coverage and surrender easy completions towards his area later on in plays

Ringo emerged as one of the top-two corner prospects for the 2023 draft during last year’s summer. Considering he’s stronger and faster than basically anybody he’s faced over these past two seasons, that’s understandable and I’m sure many coaches are still very intrigued by the skill-set he brings to the table. With that being said, he threw up legitimate question marks in some matchups over the course of the season. His ability to anticipate and mirror receivers off the line was sub-par and it felt like he was consistently a step behind the guy across from him. Now, for some of the big plays he gave up and flags he drew, he did make up with a couple of tremendous interceptions and balls he was able to dislodge late. We can’t forget that he is still a very young player, who faced some tremendous competition and still has plenty of room to grow in terms of the details of the position. The tools are certainly there to be a starter on the outside, but I think his future team may end up making him a big nickel, to counter the league’s trend towards power slot profiles. I still believe it’s more likely he gets picked in the first round than not.

7. Julius Brents, Kansas State

6’4”, 205 pounds; RS SR

A top-500 overall recruit for Iowa in 2018, Brents played in 11 games as a true freshman, including five starts. Over the next two seasons, he was limited to eight games, including a redshirt in 2019. After having recorded five pass break-ups and an interception with the Hawkeyes, he transferred to K-State. There he was a full-time starter both years, with limited ball-production initially, but then intercepting and breaking up four passes respectively in 2022.

+ Legit 6’3” corner with an insane 82 and 5/8-inch wingspan (99th percentile)
+ Yet his feet are pretty darn quick as he mirrors guys off the line, with balanced footwork
+ Has some very impressive reps against guys trying to release down the sideline, where he rides them into the white by that near-shoulder and takes away any space to complete the ball into
+ Against receivers who have more room to the outside by alignment, who takes those wide releases against him, Brents has his eyes locked onto the hips of those guys without needing to totally commit his hips and be ready for any potential breaks
+ His long arms enable him to land jams as receivers stick their foot in the ground for quick breaks and slow them down significantly
+ Attacks the near-shoulder and pins the inside arm of guys trying to stack him vertically
+ Shows excellent balance between making sure he’s in phase, turning his head at the appropriate time, yet understanding when the secondary play starts and his eyes need to shift back towards the quarterback
+ Had awesome back-and-forth battles with TCU stud receiver Quentin Johnson in their two 2022 matchups and to a large degree also the year prior, even though Brents didn’t actually travel

+ When he plays with his butt to the sideline, Brents covers ground well whilst having his eyes locked on the quarterback and being ready to break on stuff in front of him
+ Springy and rapidly closes the distance to receivers matching routes from off-alignment in quarters
+ His long branches give him room for error when there is a little bit of breathing room created by the receiver, to still affect the catch-point
+ As we saw this past season, if you under- or overthrow this guy, you better do so by a significant margin, or he will come up with the ball
+ Has some beautiful high-point picks on his resume
+ Held opposing quarterbacks to 24-of-51 for 374 yards and three TDs, but also four INTs himself last season, for a passer rating of just 57.7 (and that includes a 55-yard TD, where he stumbled and against a go route, when coming onto the field for one play gutting it out through an injury)
+ Absolutely jumped out of the gym with a 41.5-inch vert and an 11’6” broad jump, And while not all corners did participate, his agility numbers were also both significantly better than the next-closest guy at the position despite his crazy long build

+ Actively condenses the edge and doesn’t mind sticking his face in the fan in run defense, at times throwing a shoulder into the chest of pulling guards even
+ Doesn’t waste any time racing upfield when the ball is completed underneat and he lands some wicked hits on guys before they can even turn upfield
+ You see some plays where he’s 15 yards down the field and then stops check-downs on like swing routes for two- or three-yard gains
+ Has the slipperiness of elude receivers trying to block him as his man works towards the quarterback on slip/tunnel screens
+ Displays a large tackling radius and effectively chops or twists ball-carriers to the ground – only missed four of 49 tackling attempts this past season

– With how long Brents is, he lacks some bulk that physical wideouts can take advantage of when they pro-active attack his chest and put him into recovery-mode
– Tends to gets his feet stuck as he tries to throw his jam and gets beat on quick slant routes sometimes, because he lacks that high-level twitch
– Has his issues sticking with guys on double-releases or who can just get his hips tilted towards the sideline before breaking inside of him, since it takes him longer to bring his base back around and getting back into the picture with those long legs
– Crafty route-runner can fool him with head-fakes at times
– While he certainly improved in 2022, too often he would leave his feet before he arrives at his target when racing down for tackles

It’s rare to see any corner with 34-inch arms. So having two in one draft class is unheard of. However, for some reason Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr. – deservedly discussed as a top-20 pick – is getting all the attention and Brents is rarely mentioned as one of the top names in this class. Maybe it’s the fact people look at him being playing in the Big-12, where defense is optional at times seemingly, but that is not considering the fact he was in a role that should translate very well to the next level and the brutal slate of receivers he faced last season, which he more than held his own against. His crazy length and light feet to play sticky coverage from the get-go makes him a very attractive option for a man-heavy scheme, but unlike some of these other long CBs, I think he has also shown the skills to click-and-close on routes in more off-zone centric systems. There is some downside with that lanky build, in terms of being able to snap his hips and stand his ground against physical wideouts at times, but the positives far outweigh those. I think he’s a top-50 player in this draft.

2023.03.26 14:01 Strictly4MyNipples What is the optimal lineup

What I'd go for right now.
Starting:
Russ-Mann-Kawhi-Batum-Zubac
Batum plays more contained than RoCo and focuses on 3s on offense. Mann plays good off Russ, makes cuts and fills holes on offense.
Off the bench Gordon splits ball handling with Kawhi when Russ sits, and is a likely closer. RoCo should get close to 30mins if he's having a good night. Plumlee should be used for short bursts of energy. Theoretically we should be able to run a really competitive small lineup against certain teams.
On a tighter rotation the odd one out is Powell, whose weaker on defense than Gordon, although a wonderful alternative if someone else is having a rough night. But the priority should be getting Mann heavy minutes so he finds his groove.
Morris gets 10 mins max and should not see the floor if PG returns.
Thoughts?

I want thank this community for your feedback to a previous post a few weeks ago(https://www.reddit.com/AdvancedRunning/comments/11emyz2). I posted that I was contemplating adjusting my goal from 3:35 to 3:30, and I got much sage (and some snide) advice not to risk it. Most comment suggested keeping my 3:35 goal and then attempting a negative split. I followed that advice and am very grateful for it.

Background and Training

55M
I started running in July 2020 to stay healthy during lockdown. I had attempted to take up running a few times in my life, but didn’t enjoy it and never stuck with it. But this time was different, and after a few weeks I started to look forward to my runs. Since then I have gone through four marathon training cycles with a local running group. The first (Fall 2021) was cut short by posterior tibial tendon problems, and decided to DNS. The second cycle peaked at 40 mpw, and yielded me a 3:49 finish for the 2022 Tobacco Road Marathon. My third marathon cycle peaked at 50 mpw, but ended with a very difficult race at the 2022 City of Oaks Marathon. The hot day, hilly course, and inadequate fueling resulted in a disappointing 4:17 finish. I walked a substantial amount of that race. A month later, I raced a half marathon in 1:43:23 (7:54 pace), which gave me confidence that a 3:35 marathon was within reach.
The cycle for my recent marathon peaked at 60 MPW, though only for one week. 45-50 MPW was more common. I did six 20+ mile runs and a couple more that were almost as long. Most weeks I did a tempo run and an interval workout.

Pre-race

Did some half-assed carbo loading for a couple of days before the race. Woke at 3:30am for the 7am race. I had a banana, two small croissants, and three cups of coffee. An hour before the race I had another banana, and 10 minutes before the race I had a liquid Gu and a couple of gummy worms.
At the lineup, I saw the 3:35 pacing group, so I asked one of the pacers what his plan was. He said they would go out a little fast and keep the same pace up and down the hills. And if they get ahead of schedule, they would slow down a little near the end. That was not what I wanted to do, particularly since the course is mostly uphill for the first two miles, so I decided to pace myself and try to catch up with them by the end.

Race

Conditions were perfect for a fast race. Temperature began around 34 F and did not warm up much during the race. The course is relatively flat with about 700 ft of elevation gain, the hills are gradual, but long. I fueled myself for the whole race with Haribro Gummy Worms. My plan was to eat one every half mile, which I had practiced in long runs. I carried my own water, with a little added salt, in a hydration pack.
I raced in Endorphin Speed 2, and paced myself with the help of a Stryd meter. I had previously worked out that I need to run at a power of about 270 Watts to maintain a 8:12/mile pace on the flat, so to be safe I aimed for a bit higher than this overall. I started slightly slower than this and ramped up my effort over the first 4 miles and then aimed to stay at around 272 W, equivalent to about 8:09/mile, for as long as I could.
At about 7 miles, my glutes were feeling a little tired, which I wasn’t expecting. I told myself that I couldn’t possibly be fatiguing yet and I convinced myself to ignore it. Things went smoothly, and at the halfway point I checked my watch and saw that I was at 1:47:xx, which was right on schedule for a 3:35 finish. Since my first few miles were a bit slower than target pace, I knew I would be fine if I could keep up my current power. Around this time I noticed that I had been forgetting to eat my gummy worms for the last couple of miles, so I downed a liquid Gu.
At mile 16, I was still maintaining my pace well, so I decided to pick up the pace slightly to bank a little time. I began aiming to maintain a power of 275 W, equivalent to about a 8:03 pace on the flat. This was the point in my previous two marathons when it became noticeably difficult to maintain my pace, so I was amazed that I was still feeling well so far into the race. Over the next miles I kept expecting to hit the wall, but found myself able to maintain my pace.
Somewhere around mile 21 I noticed that my peripheral vision was becoming distorted, which I have come to recognize as hypoglycemia and a sign that I was about to hit the wall. This was not good, since I still had a long hill ahead, but my legs felt good, so I stayed cautiously optimistic. I took stock of the gummy worms in my pockets and realized I had been eating far fewer than planned, so I threw a couple in my mouth, slowed my pace a bit to stay just above 270 W, and grabbed a cup of Gatorade at the next station. Somehow I continued to have the energy to keep my pace going.
When I reached the last aid station, I finally let myself believe that a 3:35 finish was a sure thing. I had 2 more miles, mostly downhill. The 3:35 pacing group was not far ahead, so I picked up the pace a little, with the aim of catching them over the remaining distance, just in case I was mistaken about how much time I had in the bank. I slowly gained on them, and in the last half few hundred meters, the pacers started calling out to encourage me to catch up with them. I stepped on the gas a little, and as I passed the last turn and saw the clock at the finish line, I started to get a little emotional. A few seconds later, I saw my wife, who was cheering me on, and really had to fight back tears. Man, it felt so good to cross the finish line.

Reflections

My number one lesson from this marathon cycle is the importance of fueling adequately. I realize that this is a little dimwitted, since fueling is emphasized in practically every book, blog, and article ever written about marathoning. I had previously paid attention to fueling, but I had not recognized just how much carbohydrate I needed to consume. This cycle, I practiced fueling aggressively during my long runs, and felt a big difference during those runs and in my recovery afterwards. I am convinced that fueling was the most important factor allowing me to maintain my pace and to feel good throughout the entire marathon.
Also, I have found the Stryd meter to be a really helpful tool for pacing optimally. By monitoring power, it is easy to ensure that I am not pushing myself too much up hills and to know how much to pick up the pace down hills. The latter is probably more valuable in a race like this, where the hills are long and gradual, because it is difficult (and probably dangerous) to maintain a constant power down steep hills.

2023.03.24 15:32 Grouchy_Tiger_5140 Bo77 Scouting Report: Clemson DT Bryan Bresee

Bo77 Scouting Report: Clemson DT Bryan Bresee
Here's the latest scouting report from the lair of Bo77, covering a high upside, but checkered injury history defensive tackle: Bryan Bresee from Clemson.
https://preview.redd.it/cennbp1u6ppa1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=6672f79816632fb14db504ce5aa2f096dd59c871

Background

Bresee was a highly-touted recruit coming out of Damascus High School (Maryland). He ranked as the #1 overall recruit in the class of 2020 according to 247Sports Composite. A very lofting billing to live up to.
He ascended into Clemson’s lineup quite quickly, starting 10 games as a true freshman in 2020, racking up 4.0 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss from the interior defensive line. He earned Freshman All-American honors from several publications, such as ESPN and The Athletic.
However, his sophomore season was not the next step forward many hoped it could be, largely because Bresee tore his ACL early in the season and was out for the remainder of the season.
Some of the lack of on-field production certainly should be given a slight asterisk from 2022, noting the immense family challenges that the Bresee family went through, losing Bryan’s 15-year old sister, Ella, to an aggressive form of brain cancer. The link provided above is an ESPN Gameday production talking about Bryan and Ella’s relationship, and the difficulties of that loss.
Bryan left the team for a short period, just after a win over Furman and was out for a few games spending time with his family. He then had his own scare in October, a diagnosis of a kidney infection. Between the two incidents, Bresee was either absent or battling infection for the first half of the 2022 season.
However, Bresee rebounded quite well in the offseason process, having a stellar Combine performance that reminded everyone once again why he has been such an intriguing commodity, which is his quick twitch ability at defensive tackle.
To read the strength's and weaknesses of Bresee, please click here. I am adding my overall thought to it below though. Short of it, I liked Bresee on film a lot more than I expected. There still some significant concerns that would make passing quite okay, but I am more intrigued than expected. Here's the full write-up on that:

Fit with the Detroit Lions

I have to admit, I think my stock on Bresee is up following this. Looking into his background, Bresee really only got:
  • A shortened and chaotic 2020 season with COVID complications throwing everyone off.
  • Three and a half games in 2021 due to an ACL tear.
  • Eight or so games in 2022 due to bereavement and other injuries.
Thus, the experience here is actually quite low, and thus the lack of polish to his game is a bit less detrimental in my opinion. Now, the checkered injury history does raise concern, especially given the Lions are in such need at defensive tackle due to injuries effectively keeping Levi Onwuzurike from contributing. However, medical details are beyond my scouting purview, and it’s one aspect I tend to leave exclusive determination to the team on. Which is short to say, if the Lions feel comfortable with their medical evaluations on Bresee, I’m quite content to go along with it.
Now, as to the fit, I think it is actually really good. Bresee’s best attributes right now are his power and explosiveness, two things Holmes has tended to covet in defensive linemen. He demonstrates them best when disrupting opposing rushing attacks, but as mentioned, the tools are there to become a quality interior pass rusher at the next level. He’s agile and mobile, he can chase down the line, and he can anchor against double teams. That’s an ideal duo for a run stopper.
As to the Holmes mold, the emphasis for defensive tackles did tend to fall more on “disruptive pass rusher” than it did on “disruptive run stopper”, but again, Bresee certainly has the tools to be developed into a quality interior rusher with some experience. That’s his biggest weakness is that he simply was unable to stay on the field enough to really take a step forward after an excellent 2020 season at Clemson. If he can stay healthy in the NFL, I have a lot of belief he will become a very good football player, and he fits a lot of the boxes Detroit would likely want checked off.
Right now, I think Bresee is an excellent fit for what the Lions want in a 3-technique paired next to Alim McNeill (who realistically can start at either 3T or 1T depending on who Detroit brings in alongside him).
Overall, the question is when would the Lions add him, and that becomes the tougher part. Personally, I think the Lions probably have to take him at 18th overall if they want him. I myself would love that, though I imagine many are not thrilled with that idea. The issue is with teams like the Saints (29th and 40th), Eagles (30th), Steelers (32nd), Cardinals (34th), Seahawks (20th and 37th), and maybe even Browns (42nd) all sitting in between the Lions second first-round pick and their first second-round pick, the odds of Bresee sliding to them at 48 seems quite low. Ideally, Detroit would be able to manage a trade back from 18 into the mid-to-low 20’s and take Bresee there.
And so this is probably the best way to put it: I am very confident in Bresee reaching his ceiling, especially in Detroit. I think the majority of the issues are easily solvable with time and consistency and experience. But that becomes the biggest drawback. Can you trust the medical evaluation on Bresee that he would stay healthy? Again, we just saw that explosive defensive tackles with elite tools do not workout when they are chronically injured and doing rehab. If the Lions feel comfortable with their medical evaluations on Bresee, I would love to see him end up in Detroit, but ultimately, I would totally understand passing, as the checkered injury history is a concern, though that clearly has not stopped Holmes before.
UPDATE: Wrote this on Tuesday and scheduled it to publish so need to go back in and change the Browns at #42 bit there.
