2023.06.06 17:14 halalharamworld Choosing the Perfect Pool Material
| https://preview.redd.it/tadtkiexxe4b1.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1235a4dd20e251c8d5058f0139081554b587ae78 When it comes to building a swimming pool, selecting the right pool material is a crucial decision. The material you choose will not only impact the aesthetics of your pool but also determine its durability, maintenance requirements, and overall cost. With various options available, it's essential to consider your preferences, budget, and long-term goals. In this article, we will guide you through the process of choosing the perfect pool material to help you create the ideal swimming pool for your needs. Concrete: Versatile and Customizable Concrete is a popular choice for swimming pool construction due to its versatility and durability. It allows for endless customization options, as it can be shaped and designed according to your specific requirements. Concrete pools can accommodate various design features such as waterfalls, spas, and custom shapes. While initial construction costs may be higher compared to other materials, concrete pools offer long-term durability and can withstand harsh weather conditions. Regular maintenance, such as resealing and resurfacing, is necessary to maintain their appearance and prevent staining or cracking. Vinyl: Affordable and Low-Maintenance Vinyl pools are known for their affordability and low-maintenance characteristics. These pools consist of a flexible liner that is installed over a steel or polymer frame. Vinyl liners come in various patterns and designs, providing options to create a visually appealing pool. Vinyl pools are less prone to algae growth and require fewer chemicals compared to other pool materials. However, the vinyl liner may need to be replaced every 10-15 years, adding to the long-term cost. While not as customizable as concrete pools, vinyl pools offer a cost-effective and relatively hassle-free option for those seeking a budget-friendly swimming pool solution. Fiberglass: Quick Installation and Minimal Maintenance Fiberglass pools are pre-manufactured pools that are delivered in one piece to your property. They offer a quick installation process and require minimal maintenance. Fiberglass pools have a smooth and non-porous surface, which resists algae growth and minimizes the need for chemical treatments. Their durability and flexibility allow them to withstand shifting soil conditions. However, fiberglass pools are limited in terms of design options and sizes, as they are pre-molded. It's important to ensure proper transportation and installation to avoid any damage during the process. Fiberglass pools are an excellent choice for those looking for a low-maintenance and relatively hassle-free swimming pool option. Natural Stone: Timeless Elegance and Unique Aesthetics For a luxurious and visually stunning swimming pool, natural stone is an ideal choice. Natural stone materials, such as granite, limestone, or travertine, offer a timeless appeal and unique aesthetics. Each stone type possesses its own texture, color variations, and natural beauty, providing a one-of-a-kind pool design. Natural stone pools are known for their durability and can withstand harsh weather conditions. However, they require proper sealing and maintenance to prevent staining and ensure longevity. Natural stone pools are an excellent option for homeowners seeking a sophisticated and high-end pool material that adds a touch of elegance to their outdoor space. Considerations for Choosing the Right Pool Material When selecting the perfect pool material, there are several factors to consider. First, assess your budget and determine the initial construction cost as well as long-term maintenance expenses. Consider your desired pool design and customization options. Evaluate the durability of the material and its ability to withstand your local climate conditions. Think about the maintenance requirements and the amount of time and effort you are willing to invest in upkeep. Lastly, consider the overall aesthetics and the desired ambiance you want to create with your swimming pool. Conclusion When it comes to selecting the perfect pool material, one important consideration is the choice between gunite and shotcrete. Both options, which are forms of concrete, offer durability, versatility, and customization. Gunite refers to a dry mix of cement and sand that is mixed with water at the construction site, while shotcrete is a wet mix that is sprayed onto the pool structure using a hose. Gunite and shotcrete pools are known for their strength and ability to withstand shifting soil conditions. They can be shaped and designed to match your specific preferences, allowing for creative features and customization. Both materials require proper installation and regular maintenance to ensure their longevity and appearance. When deciding between gunite and shotcrete pool , it's important to consider factors such as budget, construction timeline, and specific project requirements. Gunite pools are typically more cost-effective and can be constructed more quickly, making them a popular choice for many homeowners. Shotcrete, on the other hand, offers a smoother finish and is often preferred for more intricate designs. Ultimately, the choice between gunite and shotcrete for your pool material depends on your individual needs and priorities. Consulting with a professional pool builder or contractor can provide valuable insights and help you make an informed decision based on your specific circumstances. In conclusion, whether you opt for a gunite or shotcrete pool, both materials offer durability, versatility, and the potential for a stunning swimming pool that will provide years of enjoyment and relaxation. submitted by halalharamworld to u/halalharamworld [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 17:03 LordIlthari Monsters Chapter 77: Blood and Booze (Or, two paladins have a fistfight in a gay bar)
I am The Bard, who taught men their first magics, which to this day endure when all others have. It is written into the blood and bones of all you have built, and so I shall never die.
I did not teach you how to dream. I only taught how to tell a dream to another who you would never know.
The phone rang. Karna didn’t bother to pick it up. The message machine clicked for a moment, tape starting to turn backwards as new words were written onto it. It clicked again, stopping dead. Karna didn’t look up from his meal of leftover takeout. He finished his noodles, checked again to see if there was any shrimp left, and sighed as he threw the box at the bin. It bounced off the others already filling it up.
He sighed, rubbing his head and eyes. Healing magic could cure a hangover. It couldn’t do anything about dehydration. He needed to get up and get a drink. He went over to his cabinet and looked around for a glass. When he didn’t find a clean one, he grabbed a coffee mug instead. It was the last one. He was also out of coffee. Irritating. No matter how much of it he drank, he was still tired. It just meant he couldn’t sleep.
Sex helped, a bit, but when it didn’t, things were worse. Lying alone in his own bed, at least he could toss and turn and work his sheets into tangles trying to find some position that would let him finally fall asleep. He could slip out of bed for a nightcap, a strong one, to try and help. With another, there was nothing to do but lie there, still and silent, trying not to wake the man or woman next to him.
Trying not to think.
Impossible to sleep, then suddenly too much sleep. Blink and it was three-thirty in the afternoon. He stood at the sink, filling up the mug and draining it repeatedly. The call was probably from work. Worse, it might be his mother.
”Karna, what the fuck are you doing with your life you useless bastard. You’re not immortal, it’s all slipping away, one day, one minute at a time, and here you are doing nothing with it.” He said to himself. “Because you’re too tired to anything and still can’t sleep.” Of course, he knew why. His mind, treacherous as a serpent, betrayed him then, in the dark, in the solitude. Every wound he had suffered, every scar erased by healing magic, those were nothing. He was a paladin, the training had gotten him used to the sight of his own blood a long time ago.
”Practice for healing magic. Isn’t that what the old sister called it?” He wondered aloud. “Tch. She was kind of a bitch. Still is. I wonder if she’s calling me to yell at me too? Of course, I suppose I deserve it. I-“Then he stopped himself, and slammed the mug down, forcefully. It hit one of the plates in the sink, and it cracked. Karna swore and picked up the mess, picking the shards of metal out of his sink and throwing them in the boxes in the bin.
He sat back down in the one seat he used at his four-person table. It was covered in books, loose change, an unopened letter from some survey, a candle, a mug, miscellaneous bits of stationary, a comically large six sided die with red and black patterns, and off directly to his left a stick of deodorant and bottle of cologne. Those last two were the only things he’d used on this table in a while.
He sat back in his chair and sighed. “Yeah, you know exactly what you’re doing with your life. Nothing of any use to anyone. Well. Useless is better than detrimental, so hey, at least there’s that improvement.”
He hit the button to play back the latest message from his telephone, and picked it up, placing the receiver to his ear. At least he could listen to his messages. That would be something for the day.
”Hey, Karna. It’s Bas.” Karna’s head slumped forwards. He hadn’t expected him to be calling to call him an idiot. “I’ve tried coming by your place a couple of times to visit, seem to have missed you both times.” Or he was asleep, or drunk, or otherwise being a bad cousin. “So, I figured I’d give you a call and leave you a message. Just checking in to see how you’re doing. I know… things have been rough, for all of us, and I know you were taking things hard.” I know you’re weak. “I hope you’re doing well, and hope you understand, if you’re not, then, well, you’ve got my number, and you know where I live. Even though my apartment’s not exactly stellar.” I know you could reach out. But you won’t. You’ve been given everything, inherited power, your house, your money, and you still do nothing with it. I have nothing our society considers important, but I am still a better man than you. “Hope to talk to you soon. Adonai watch over you.”
That last bit was a bit odd. Adonai. The old invisible god, or God, as those that believed in such a thing insisted. Karna wasn’t entirely certain that this wasn’t just a clever way of disguising atheism, given that philosophy’s associations. Why in the world would Basil mention it now? As far as he knew… well he really actually didn’t know anything about Basil’s beliefs. He presumed, given his training, he was a follower of the western philosophies, which were philosophies more so than religions. They were fairly popular these days, a sort of secular spirituality, a substitute for the holes growing in Ordani religious life.
When you’ve fought and killed a god in living memory, it becomes harder to worship them. Beyond that, the old rites simply that, old rites. A series of rituals nobody really believed in anymore. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen a cleric. He paused. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen a cleric he hadn’t been fighting to the death with. The gods really didn’t seem to have much of a place in a modern society. It was probably arrogant, but part of the point of the gods was meant to be that they were something so much bigger than oneself, that there was nothing that could compare. They were monumental figures, but when the monuments can be torn down by mere men, was it a monument worth believing in?
It was that way then. Some people turned to the western philosophies, realizing that their religious needs, the desire for mystery, for reverence, for prayer, meditation, moral laws and sacred communities were met there, without gods. Some, Basil included, turned their gaze towards an invisible, supposedly omnipotent, God. Well, the gods were supposed to be omnipotent, but if nobody could even prove your God existed, well, then there wasn’t any fear that anyone could kill Him. And then, there was the other kind. The kind which were kind of a bad joke.
He remembered his days in the warm sun, under the abbot’s orchard in Hearthfire Abbey, amid the warm red walls, the golden light of the day filtering through the green leaves, the bright red apples highlighted against a blue sky. Quite literally simpler times. He remembered the grave beneath the tree. Senket Zarathustra. Of course, that wasn’t really where she was. She was a few miles up the road, in a chapel nobody paid any mind to, next to six other graves, two empty. How much a contrast that was, compared with what was in the abbey. Her image, glaring down from tapestry, immortalized in statuary, and everywhere revered. Saint, they called her, but what was the difference between a saint and a god, when you treated one like the other.
They had made gods for themselves, gods born of and midwives to, their own people. A god that was distant enough to be worshipped, but near enough to be known. Something understood, something relatable, and something that had bested other gods before. Gods borne of the people of godslayers, for what else could they be? Of course, every pantheon needed its devil, its fallen angel. And now here he stood, a useless bastard, but also the same kind of thing as their gods and their devil. What a bad joke.
But at the same time, a joke they had believed in. A joke he felt the obligation to make a truth. A joke he had failed to make true. Up on a pedestal, and down in the dirt. That was what paladin of Order Undivided meant now. A hero, until people had no more need of them. Good, he wasn’t even a hero in the first place.
He shook his head. It was going to be a few hours before any clubs opened. He was going back to bed until then. It didn’t do him any good to sit awake stewing.
Basil was getting worried. He’d tried paying visits and making calls, but there was no contact. He quietly sat through office hours, grading the first assignments of the year. He was starting to regret assigning an essay, particularly to his 101 class. Fortunately, it was early in the year, so he was able to work through his office hours without being further disturbed. He finished his last paper, capped the red pen, and stood up. It wasn’t that far out of his way to visit Karna again, and this time he wouldn’t be ignored.
He made his way through the city, until he came to the Red Street. It had another name, but people remembered not what was given, but what was done. Fifty years ago, the blood of black and red lions flowed, as Elsior faced down her old mentor during the height of the black rebellion. The street’s architecture was eclectic, a mix of the old buildings which had survived the battle, and newer designs built up out of the ruins left from a clash of titans.
There were alleys off the street where you could still see the gashes left in the ground by arcane blades. It was a street where history lay heavy in the mortar and the air. It was also a decently affordable neighborhood, as the old houses, while historical, were also old, small, and lacked modern amenities. He was still never going to afford any of them on a teacher’s salary, even with his stipend as a paladin. Of course, Karna would have had a bitch of a time paying for his house as well, but he had simply inherited it.
Basil shook his head, as if to throw the jealous thought out of his mind. “You’re a grey-eyed monster already. Let’s not add green to the mix.” He growled at himself, as he kept walking up to Karna’s door and knocked. No response. He sighed, looking through the door. Only two of his eyes saw the normal spectrum of light. The others varied from arcane, ultraviolet, infrared, and a curious ability to see electrical signals. The end result was an overlapping view of information, an in-depth view of the world that saw the surface and the depths of everything. It had been a bit of a rude surprise for his parents to find out their son saw their brains at the same time he saw their faces. The practical upshot of this at the moment was that he saw Karna was clearly not at home, and had left a trail of lingering celestial energy behind him.
Well, Karna or another aasimar, but they were fairly rare. Even with the increasing numbers of extraplanar citizens in the union, there weren’t many descended from angels. Basil wryly considered that it might be the former keeping out the later. Baatorites weren’t strictly speaking enemies with most angels, but the distaste between the two species was deep, ancient, and mutual. As such, there was only one trail to follow.
Basil sighed when he found the end of the trail. It was a club, and of a particular sort. He didn’t need his enhanced vision to tell that. Technically speaking, strip clubs and even prostitution were legal. Practically speaking, everyone in any of them used pseudonyms. He sighed and headed for the entrance. The bouncer at the door, a towering ogre, raised a hand. “If you’re carrying, head around to the side entrance. They’ll check your swords there. No weapons in the club.”
”Not planning on starting a fight. Just looking to meet someone.”
”Yeah, well check em anyway. We’ve had boyfriends throwing hands with one another because they were looking at the guy on stage a little too hard, we don’t want em doing it with swords. That’s the kind of domestic dispute that doesn’t just get the cops involved, it’s also a bitch to get out of the floors.”
”Well, I’ll keep that in mind.” Basil replied, and headed around the side. He stepped in, greeted by another bouncer, a dragonborn. He always found it amusing how it was always one of the larger races as a bouncer. Given their job, it made a certain degree of sense, but it occurred to him he’d never seen a gnome as a bouncer. Then again, he didn’t go to many clubs. He checked his sword in, and left a pseudonym.
The dragonborn looked down at the paper, and narrowed his eyes slightly. “What’s the T.D. stand for, Mr. Law?” He asked curiously.
Basil shrugged. “Hells if I know, it’s an alias, same as everyone else is using here. I mean, look at the guy above me on that list, when was the last time you ever met somebody actually named Flamingo?”
”The guy kinda looked like a flamingo. Aasimar type, maybe his wings are pink.” The bouncer replied.
”If he’s the person I’m thinking of, no. Let’s hope they don’t start changing.” Basil replied.
”Ah, ex-boyfriend?”
”Cousin, and why’d you assume ex?”
”The only people I’ve seen who’ve been drinking that much and going home with that many different blokes are the ones going through breakups, and you’re the only person I’ve seen go looking for him, so I know he’s not a whore.”
”Nah, just a dumbass. Thanks for the info. Here’s hoping you have a quiet night.”
”Yeah, try to keep it that way for me.”
”I’ll do my best. Believe it or not, I hate fighting.” Basil replied, and headed past the dragonborn into the club proper.
To give the club some credit, they had a pretty decent band going. A small number, playing as much with style as they did skill. That was to say, a decent if unspectacular amount. The rolling tones of the lead singer washed over an atmosphere of casual conversation and lewd humor. Basil cocked an ear at the sound. He would have sworn he’d heard the woman on the radio at least once. He watched her closely for a moment, along with the rest of the band, but didn’t recognize them. Then again, he didn’t go to many concerts.
As the double bass thrummed, the piano crooned, and the saxophone danced center stage, he made his way through smoke and other scents towards the bar. A teifling danced a lurid show in the center of the building, sweat glistening on blue skin from the lights. One of Basil’s eyes kept a lock on the man, tracing the electrical signals running under his skin to enact their sensual motions. It wasn’t exactly something he was looking to copy, but it was an interesting interplay to watch. Dancing wasn’t something often done alone, done for the show. It was interesting to compare the flow of signals of this to more traditional forms.
He kept most of his eyes forwards through. He had a job to do, and he preferred white to blue anyways. A brief thought entertained his mind of what Zeal might look like in such an outfit. He snapped it off immediately, jaw snapping shut in anger at himself. That was wrong, and a bad place to go. He couldn’t allow himself to think of her, think of anyone, that way, but especially her.
He focused himself. He had a job to do, and he was going to die alone. The only thing anyone would ever love of him would be an illusion. Any intimacy would have to be built on lies. Throw those thoughts out of his mind. They would only bring distraction, and disappointment.
He centered himself, and took a seat next to Karna, as the aasimar knocked back what was looking like probably the sixth shot tonight. How the hell was he even paying for all this? He rapped the bar twice with his knuckles. “First time here, got mezcal?” He asked.
”Mezcal coming up, though I can’t say it’s gonna be quite as good as home’s.” The barkeep replied.
”I am home, just grew up away from it.” Basil replied. For all his illusions, he always forgot to cover his chultan accent. Then again, recognizing his voice was part of the point for the man next to him.
”Basil?” Karna asked, turning slightly. “You’re straight, well, nearest to it, the fuck are you doing here?”
”Checking on you, and about to drink a theoretically decent mezcal.” Basil replied. “I’m worried about you.”
”Well fuck off, you don’t need to be.” Karna replied. “Another.” He requested. Another shot of strong absinthe filled his cup.
”Might want to slow down there hoss.” The barkeep warned. “The kind you’ve been having is a hundred thirty proof.”
”That so? Huh. Would have thought it was about a hundred twenty. Guess I’m getting better at drinking. Stands to reason, it’s all I’m good at or good for.” Karna replied, clearly about as drunk as someone on their seventh shot of one hundred thirty proof absinthe should be.
”Politely, bullshit.” Basil replied. “Though you are going to manage to be the first paladin to ever give yourself liver cirrhosis at the rate you’re going.”
”Paladin. What a bad joke.” Karna spat. “Paladins are heroes, we, we’re not fucking heroes. You got closer, and you’re, well, you. Me. I’m just a fool. So what if I ruin my liver. I’ve ruined everything else.”
Karna went for his glass, but Basil put his hand over it, stopping him. He looked his cousin in the eye, gentle, pitying, but firm. “Karna, we should go. Let’s find somewhere, a park or something, and talk.”
”We should, as in you should get your hand off my drink, and then pull that pole out of your ass. Dancer might need a spare.” Karna spat back. “I don’t need to talk, I need a damn drink.”
Basil didn’t move. “Cut the crap and calm down. You’re drunk already, and clearly not in a good place. If you’re going to be this way, at least we can do it at a safe distance from anyone else.”
”Oh fuck right off.” Karna replied. “What, am I embarrassing you? More so that I already have? I know I’m a fucking disgrace okay. I saw it with my own two eyes and can’t stop seeing it. The least you could let me do is drink myself to death in peace so I stop being a bother for all of you.”
The bartender was steadily shifting away, looking towards the bouncer who sighed and began to approach. He briefly made eye contact with Basil, who tried to give him an apologetic smile and flicked his eyes back towards Karna. The bouncer nodded. This wasn’t the first time he’d seen this.
Karna continued. “But no, you can’t do that. Can’t just let me be a failure in peace. You’re not content just being the better man than me, being better in every way but looks than me. You have to prove it, have to rub it in. I already you’re better, okay, don’t need to slam my nose in it with this stupid pity schtick.”
”When did I say anything about that? I’m the weakest member of our party!” Basil protested. “And what the hells does that have to do with any of that. You’re my cousin, my family, and beyond that my friend. You clearly need help, so of course I’m going to try and help you.”
”I don’t need help.” Karna snarled back, green eyes glinting red with a dangerous, gleaming light. “LEAST OF ALL FROM YOU!” He roared. The red light flared. Basil flinched, covering his eyes as the roar slammed into his mind and ears at the same time. He focused, piercing through the growing crimson fog.
The music kept playing, a hidden tape rolling, but the band pretending to sing had stopped. The club had gone silent, save for that. The patron’s idle gossip and chatter was muted. The bar was silent, patrons slumped over on their chairs, the bartender and bouncer were on the ground, foaming at the mouth. Karna and Basil were the only two people conscious in that building.
Karna stared in stunned silence, quiet horror at the scene. Some part of him processed exactly what he had just done, rationality quietly ticking away behind a fog of alcohol and badly managed emotional issues. It only intensified the later, a combination of terror and guilt forming into a blossoming rage. Then he saw Basil’s face, saw realization peeling back and something shifting in how he looked at him, saw a cold fury, a hatred, spreading across his face.
Basil looked himself, horrified at what had just occurred, and mind flashing to the street in front of Zeal’s home. This was the exact same scene. The same power as Alexander, but now being used instinctually. He had no idea what had actually happened to these people, if Karna had meant it or not. One thing he did know for certain. He had to stop this. If Karna was out of control there was no telling how many people could be hurt so he had to end this now.
Karna opened his mouth, but it was too late. Basil whirled, placing a palm on the bar to leverage himself from a sitting position into a whirling kick. His heel hit Karna squarely in the face, with every ounce of strength he could muster. A sucker punch, meant to be a knockout blow so he could take the aasimar down, end this spell, and get him out of here before anything else went wrong.
Karna snapped back out of his chair, it tumbled to the ground, and the back of his head hit the floor hard. His headache roared, but he rolled over coming back up to his feet, coming to a ready stance. He might have been depressed and drunk, but he was still a paladin, better trained than most and tougher than pretty much everybody. It was going to take more than that to knock him out.
Basil kicked him squarely in the nuts.
Karna doubled over in pain, and Basil kicked him in the face again. Basil had trained under paladins and monks alike. His skill with his own limbs was on par with his swordsmanship. His training under the paladins in the tradition of Jort made him an expert at sneak attacks, sucker punches, and practical, dirty fighting. In other words, he was effectively an expert at kicking people in the nuts. He went for a chop to the throat, trying to finish the fight right then and there.
Karna caught his hand, and broke it by squeezing his fingers. He looked up, bloody eyed and berserk. “Ah. Fuck.” Basil swore. Then Karna threw him. Basil went flying, arm broken, and hit the wall shelves, covered in a hundred forms of expensive booze. The impact shattered his collar bone, and he kept going until he hit the solid wall on the other side of the bar. He landed hard on his face, shirt torn to ribbons and bleeding freely.
His hand and shoulder reset themselves, and shirt tore entirely as he burst his extra limbs out of it, and slammed them down to pick himself up. He drew in a breath, and Karna threw a chair at him. Basil dodged upwards, onto the ceiling as the chair smashed a hole in the wall behind him. He rushed his cousin, gathering shards of broken glass with his spare limbs and a bottle into either hand. He flung the glass before him, forcing Karna to cover his face. Then he hit him on top of the head with both bottles, dropped them, and hit him on both sides of the throat with a chop.
Karna struggled to breathe, nearly blacking out from the impact, and but threw a wild, blind punch. Basil evaded most of hit, but even a glancing hit was enough to send him flying. He caught his momentum on a support pillar, swinging around it with his tendrils. His ankle hit the side of a table and shattered. He wheezed in pain, falling to a knee on top of the table to mend it.
Karna roared and charged like a bull, giving Basil scant time. He palmed a lighter from one of the unconscious men lying next to him, and jumped clear. Karna smashed the table into splinters beneath his fists, tearing skin and breaking bone, but healing them just as quickly as he damaged them. Basil flicked the lighter open, and threw it. The expensive alcohol covering Karna caught light, stunning and blinding him as Basil set him ablaze!
He hit the flaming angel with everything he had before the fire burned away. Fists, feet, elbows, knees, tendrils. A devastating combination of every move he knew to put a man on the ground flew out of him. He hadn’t really trained to get into a bar fight, but damn if it wasn’t coming in handy. He finished with a powerful drop kick in the aasimar’s solar plexus, sending him staggering back against the bar, breath torn from his lungs.
Basil breathed heavily, as his cousin slumped, then swore as Karna got his feet under him, and pulled his head up still more than ready to go. He swore louder as Karna gripped the sides of the bar, and tore the granite countertop off of it, swinging it at Basil like an improvised weapon.
Basil leapt, running along the side of the countertop as it smashed through everything it came across. Fortunately, it was swung high, missing the unconscious clubgoers, and shattered when it hit a load bearing column, though that cracked ominously. Basil landed on his cousin, spines biting into him and wrapping around bones to anchor the assassin. He’d seen a similar technique used by velociraptors when they hunted, using their massive claws to hook onto larger dinosaurs. Once attached, the smaller reptiles would begin to eat their prey alive. He wasn’t planning on biting Karna though, instead he raised up his boot and began to stomp his cousin’s face, over and over and over again, desperately trying to bring the berserk paladin down before he brought down the building!
Karna flared his wings and soared upwards, slamming both himself and Basil into the ceiling. Basil fell off, and Karna grabbed him by the face. He slammed them both down into the floor, smashing Basil’s head into the ground once, twice, three times, then threw him with enough force to scatter blood across the entire club and snap the assassin’s neck. He watched as Basil hit the pole the dancer had been, ahem, performing with, and his illusion vanished.
Horror overtook him as he saw Basil’s true form break in two, snaped apart by the force of the impact, and fall like so much meat onto the stage. He rushed forwards, hands shaking as he realized what he’d just done. He reached for Basil’s head, bloodied and broken. But his hands went through him. His emotional pain was then matched by physical pain, as he felt a steel stripper pole strike him directly between the legs.
Basil didn’t let up, as he dropped the illusion and his invisibility, and beat his cousin into the ground with the broken pole. He went for joints, broke ribs, hit below the belt with every opportunity and he did not stop. He didn’t know what it was going to take to put Karna down but he did know that if Karna got back up, he was actually going to die. It was nothing but the good fortune of his unusual anatomy that had kept him breathing with a broken neck, and his healing magic to allow him to ever get up again. He wasn’t going to get another chance, and so he beat down his cousin until the pole was bent beyond all recognition and the stage was slick with golden blood.
When he finally stopped, Karna was finally, mercifully, down. Basil knelt by his side, mending him enough to make sure he could be moved safely, though not enough to bring him back into consciousness. The patrons were beginning to stir to consciousness. With a grunt, he picked up his friend, hoisting him over his shoulder, and covered both of them with a spell of invisibility.
Slowly, shakily, he retrieved his and Karna’s weapons, erased both their names from the registry, and slipped away as people began to regain consciousness and the police arrived. Then, he began the slow, tired business of carrying Karna back to his house. He grumbled as he went. “You are far too skinny to be this heavy, and put up way too much of a fight for me to need the extra weight of lugging your ass out of here. You stupid overpowered twink.”
Karna woke up with a splitting headache, and a slightly less splitting everything-else-ache. Paladin healing factors worked wonders, but if you took a beating that was going to make you ache for a week, you were going to ache for a week. He remembered what happened, and started to wish he didn’t. “Oh fuck. I nearly killed Bas. And… yeah, the rest of the club. I’m not going to be allowed back there.”
He rolled off his couch and got a drink, of water this time. He looked at his liquor cabinet, walked over, opened it, and grabbed a bottle. He emptied it into the sink. Then he emptied the rest. He looked down at the drain, drew in a deep breath, and focused himself. “I need to apologize. I need to talk. I need help. And I need to get my life back on track.” He resolved. “I can’t let that happen again.”
He clenched his fists, and opened them again, hands still shaking. There was a knock at the door. His first thought was that it might be Basil checking on him. The next though was that it was the police. His third thought was that it was Basil, and the police. Well, either way. Apologies would be made, he might just also need to call a really, really good lawyer, and probably a bank to take out a loan to pay all that property damage.
He opened it, and saw another aasimar looking back at him.
”Hello Karna.” Alexander replied. “I heard you had something of a rough night, powers going out of control, a rather ugly bar fight, that sort of thing?”
”Yes. How long am I going to be in jail for?” Karna asked.
”Not at all, I’ve covered the damages and fortunately, nobody has any memory of last evening. Dominion Flare has that useful side effect.”
”Dominion Flare? What I did has a name?”
”Of course. It is your inheritance after all.” Alexander mused. “Though, you might be the first one to awaken it while drunk, though you’re not the first to cause some degree of damage with it. These things happen, it simply requires training.” He looked Karna squarely in the eye. “And beyond that, I strongly suspect you may be looking for some help getting yourself back on track.”

2023.06.06 16:24 GVLRedditRanger Stain Glass Patterns
Hi everyone! I’m starting to make a stained glass window for my bathroom(33x18) but am caught up with scaling my design from off my computer to a large full-size sheet of paper. How do you print/make your large patterns on paper? I’ve thought about using a projector, but curious about how you approach it!
This is the mock-up attached! I really appreciate any help you can provide.

2023.06.06 16:17 Arekkun 1 BR in 3 BR ($1085) Available in a 3BR Apartment in Somerville (Winter Hill) for Sept 1st (Reposting)
$1085 - This room has a private ½ bath. Great bay windows with plenty of space. See pictures with orange curtains and 3D printing work area.
About the apartment:
The unit is located on the 2nd floor, and features washedryer in-unit, dishwasher, gas stove, gas heating, hardwood floors, updated bathroom, and storage space. The common areas have an open layout, and are furnished including kitchenware, living room essentials, etc. We’re pretty set with furniture in the common spaces, but may be able to accommodate smaller items. As mentioned, there is a small storage area in the basement accessible through a storm door outside. No smoking, and unfortunately, no pets.
Location:
The 3 floounit house is located on Dartmouth St., Somerville, MA, on a quiet block. Located near the Gilman Square Green Line stop when/if it opens. It’s very close to Broadway, Highland Ave and Union Square, and less than 2 miles from Lechmere, Porter, Harvard, Davis and Assembly Square. There's also good access to a number of bus lines, and it’s close to the Somerville bike path (5 min bike ride). If you drive, it’s around 5 min to 28 (and 93). Have a look at google maps to get a better idea of what's around!
Parking:
On street parking is available with a Somerville Resident parking pass.
About the housemates:
I am in my 30s, cis gay male working for a non-profit.I work a 9-5, Hybrid In Office/WFH for the foreseeable future, reading, cooking, and learning stained glass are some current hobbies of mine.
Nate (Second Roomate): Late 20’s queer cis male. I’m a professional cook so late nights are normal for me however I understand how to be quiet and respectful of others who aren’t on the same schedule. My hobbies include film photography, exploring the city, and reading.
My time at home is very much spent resting, but I’m open to making new friends or at least cohabitating with someone in a civil and respectful way. Cleanliness and communication are very important to me.
When we're home, we are very much am “off” socially and appreciate roommates who want to share a common space but understands if being home is a time to recharge and rest. That being said, I hope we can find some shared interests and can share the occasional drink, just want to be upfront about what you can expect from me!
About you:
We’ll get along well if you’re responsible, respectful, pick up after yourself and willing to share household chores, and friendly. Please be fully vaccinated (or on your way to be)!
If interested:
Send an email/dm with a little bit about yourself, any questions you might have, and include some times when you would be available to view the apartment. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible I would prefer to meet on Facetime/Zoom for a virtual tour prior to a in-person visit. Applicants will be subject to credit approval and will be named on the lease.

2023.06.06 15:44 kelleymakes Question about glass kilns!
I am new to stained glass and I am also an oil painter. I’d love to combine the 2 things and I’ve seen so much gorgeous stained glass that is painted!
I know there are certain paints you can use that don’t require kilns but I just love the look of the traditional kiln paint look.
Can anyone recommend me a good kiln on a budget? I’m kind of leery of microwave kilns… afraid that will go very wrong. I’d appreciate any insight you have!! Thank you :)

2023.06.06 15:41 H0M0_LUD3N5 I would like to share some of my experiences while being on shrooms for the first time. Caution long post.
My first trip took place some months ago but I wrote down most of what happened a day after the trip.
In the time leading up to getting them, I did quite a bit of research and was confident in them not being able to hurt me. My source was another friend of mine who I know would not give me random, maybe dangerous ones etc.
I invited a closer friend to take them with me to which she agreed after some consideration. Right before taking them I asked her again and told her the things I had learned to make absolutley sure we both were comfortable.
We measured 5g of dry shrooms with a scale and blended them with a smoothie. Then we each drank about half of the smoothie. It didnt really taste any different than without shrooms but at the bottom were some bigger pieces which were kinda hard to swallow for me because of the smell. All in all not a bad way to take them I think.
We sat on the couch and started with watching Space Balls. For about 20 minutes everything was normal besides that I was not really watching the movie but looking around and trying to see the trip starting. The first effects were really subtle changes in my vision. Straight lines in my peripheral view were curved slightly. Soon colors began to change. My friends hair changed the most noticeably into a vibrant red.
Time passed and I was starting to lose track with the movie. It felt like I was constantly talking and expressing my opinion on the movie. I could not shut up for some time and was giggling over everything. The movie felt like it dragged on for so, so long. I remember getting annoyed with it because I wanted to listen to music after but of course it was fucking funny still.
So the movie ended and I turned on Dark Side of the Moon. One of the highlights for me was right at the beginning when the collage of sounds switches with the first real notes. It made me feel so at ease, like a breeze of fresh air filled the room and the couch felt so comfortable at that moment.
We didn't turn off the TV but kept it on mute and just let the random program play with the music playing at the same time. I think here I had the most memorable or "shocking" visuals. Faces of people on TV morphed, melted, from young to old, male to female. It was really interesting and not at all scary to me. Sometimes the images on the TV and the music seemed to make some kind of sense together. Like characters mouth movements matching perfectly with the music.
All while this happened I touched different objects and felt and looked at them closely trying to really "understand" them. It was difficult to move much and the judgement of distances was completely broken for me. Even my own body felt weirdly disproportionate.
After the album was over, I changed to Jimi Hendrix. Here the music at one point somehow felt like a live performance. It sounded like coming from a stage with the instruments more clearly separated instead of from my speaker that was standing close by. I think we had the music really loud actually but it was hard to judge how loud sounds were.
There was a large plant in the room and during the trip we both looked at this plant three seperate times and talked about it. We thought it looked happy or sad and saw it move when in reality we both knew it could not.
The single most unpleasant thing was when I looked for my glasses which had come off. My friend grabbed them and immediately said "eeewwww" and that they felt gross. I took them from her and there was this really weird feeling. It was kind of a tingling sensation when touching the frame, like some kind of little tentacles were grabbing at your fingers.
For some time during the trip I was laying on the couch with my face in the cushions and just being. I had faint closed-eye visuals. They were red, green, and blue "fish scales" in patterns that looked like some kind of leaf with a long and narrow part and then a short fanned out ending. Despite laying there and not being able to get up some times I think I never was really out, always awake and conscious.
We opened a bag of Doritos and tried them. It was not bad but weird. The taste was more bland I think but the feeling of them cracking between the teeth was really strong.
We tried kissing and surprisingly I don't remember it feeling any different.
In the last part of the trip we watched different things on Netflix. I think we started with Rick and Morty. Can't remember anything about what was said there just the scene where Rick sits on his toilet in this beautiful scenery. I felt that. The colors poured out of the screen onto the walls and I felt this intense relaxation again.
After changing from Rick and Morty we looked around a bit and finally settled on Shrek and sobered up. When the movie was over, I felt normal again. We had Pizza and then went to sleep. We were both extremely tired.
I was really fascinated by the experience. It was never a negative one. I would like to see where my brain can go again but I don't feel a "pressure" to take psychedelic drugs, like that sometimes happens with alcohol. Speaking of it, the shrooms showed me how lame it is. As I said I sometimes get this feeling like "I would like to get wasted again sometime" but the shrooms (and a particularly bad experience I had one evening) remind me that there is nothing to gain from abusing alcohol while you can lose a lot.
Anyway that's it. Have a nice day and maybe share something of your own here :)

First Previous Memory Transcription Subject: Vichak, venlil school principal
Date [Standard Human Reckoning]: 2136-10-23
I told my vice principal that I didn't come to this predator planet for a vacation, so I need some knowledge or study results to bring home. Johan, my possible future brother-in-law, suggested that I could perhaps observe a human school. Keristian, the human coordinator for the refugee apartment, assured me that he had contacted an elementary school and came up with a schedule. For now, he told me to familiarize myself with the amenities in the apartment.
Besides their blocky design, human apartments had the same general functions as venlil ones. The staff provided us with a stepping stool to account for the larger dimension of the furniture, but other than that it has all that we needed.
Well... we could use a full-body dryer.
I found some alien features too in the apartment, such as the artificial pond, which humans use for recreation. They call this activity 'swimming', something that translates into "moving in water". Their First Contact package insisted that they came from arboreal lineage. Yet, their movements in water betrayed a hidden skill. After considering it, it made sense in a way. The water in their world is teeming with life, and they would benefit from aquatic hunting skills.
Adjacent to this 'swimming' pond, the apartment also had a gym. We have gyms back in the home world, but here on Earth, a wide range of humans frequented them, not just their armed forces personnel. They perform a variety of body movements such as lifting and putting things back down or running on a conveyor belt.
Does this dedication to simulated hardship serve as a means to channel their inherited predatory aggression? They didn't turn themselves from savage beasts into civilized people without some way to temper that excess.
We expected to meet a lot of gojids in the apartment, but it felt sparser than I had imagined. Keristian explained that the gojids here had entered into employment within the Capital. A large number had secured work on the farms. Some had brought seeds from their homeworld, which they planted back in the camp. After the human experts determined it safe enough for Earth, they transplanted the sprouts to one of the farms around the city.
I wondered if any venlil plant species had established themselves on this foreign soil. After Timür explained the concept of invasive species, I realized that I misinterpreted their cautious approach as predatory territorialism. On the other paw, the unspoiled wilderness that I witnessed on my journeys to and from the camp made me appreciate the inherent beauty of preserving such a wild landscape.
Some other gojids chose careers in logistics, serving the complex system that kept the goods in the region moving. Right now, humans directed most of their effort into alleviating the ruined cities. Some of the gojids had even volunteered to help the human, despite the presence of arxurs in the affected cities.
For our last meal of the day, we had gojid dishes made out of earth ingredients. I have to admit that I have not tried gojid cuisine before, but it grew on me just like human cuisine did.
The midday heat on Earth felt milder compared to the scorching intensity of a Deep Day in Venlil Prime's sunward section. Unlike our homeworld, where night temperatures could plummet beyond freezing, Earth's night felt comfortable.
I spent my first night on Earth sitting on the rooftop garden of the apartment. The blanket of darkness that stretched all around us sparked feelings of unease. However, the glimmering towers of the Capital provided a comforting backdrop, their lights twinkling like terrestrial stars. One of the staff members commented on how the city's light pollution obscured all but the brightest celestial bodies.
The staff member was a human after all and would do insane human things like complaining about their city not being dark enough.
Nevertheless, humans did appreciate the necessity of artificial lighting. As night fell, we could illuminate our room with the voice command, a comforting alternative to the deep night outside. I shuddered at the thought of enduring a night in such complete darkness.
Yesterday, I decided to explore the downtown capital to familiarize myself before I visited the school today. Mom insisted on tagging along and Keristian wanted Sukma, his aide, to guide us. We wanted a self-guided exploration, so as a compromise, the human equipped us with wrist-worn devices. These gadgets allowed him to track our whereabouts and also functioned as a means of payment. While the coordinator insisted we needn't worry about finances, he explained a rough price guide to prevent any possible exploitation.
Humans, in stark contrast to the lone arxurs, put heavy importance on socializing. While we waited in the station, the rhythmic cadence of Bahasa, their local language, filled the air. Thanks to Vani's provision of a language model, I could comprehend their dialogues, and snippets of human conversations drifted toward my ears.
"Do you see those domba?"
"Shhh... don't call them that. But yeah... I thought we had just one here?"
"Maybe Vani's relatives came to visit?"
However, even with the additional language model, my translator couldn't decipher all of their voices. Vani informed me that Bahasa serves as a trade language for the region and they had a plethora of other tongues that our translation device has yet to have the data for.
Once aboard the train, the humans adopted a collective silence. Being surrounded by humans aboard the train felt daunting, but this discomfort came from me standing out in this setting. I would feel the same on any other planet inhabited by a different species, carnivorous or not.
When we came to the downtown station, we plunged right away into an endless sea of humans.
Timür's unapologetic display of his face had acclimatized us to humans. We learned to perceive them not as threats but as just xenos with weird faces. It also helped that the humans in our vicinity maintained a respectful distance. However, they almost always locked their curious gaze onto us, averting their eyes when they figured out that I noticed them from my peripheral vision.
Distinguishing individual humans posed a challenge due to their similar appearance, but I soon learned to note the distinctive fabric of their clothing and the accessories they adorned.
The bustling capital of Nusantara presented us with new experiences and opportunities to learn about human culture. Mom and I took full advantage of our time there, immersing ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere provided by the city.
We first stopped at a local market, a bustling hive of activity that operated around the clock. Here, we observed humans haggling over the prices of fruits and vegetables, inspecting textiles, and purchasing a bewildering variety of cooked foods. The rich aroma of exotic spices and prepared meals filled the air.
We had a pleasant experience in the market until we stumbled onto the flesh section. Mom caused some embarrassing commotion when she vomited at the sight of the flesh.
So we decided to visit something less challenging and found ourselves going to museums and galleries. The tour guides in each institution we came to explained the history of this island while showing a collection of historical artifacts and artworks. It offered a captivating glimpse into the ancient human civilizations that once inhabited this region, and their struggles and triumphs.
We decided to have our last meal of the day in the city. With many of the buildings crammed in the city center, the place we had access to the open air lay at the top of the building. We watched the sun setting on the horizon.
As we ate through a platter of addictive fritters, Mom said that we venlil did construct similar dense settlements. Her explanation surprised me at first, as I almost forgot that Mom used to work as a civil engineer. She then explained that dense arrangements for habitats like this only made sense in colonies that lacked land or breathable air.
Humans seemed to have other motivations. They prefer gathering close to one another, creating bustling metropolises to allow for large swaths of untouched land for their wildlife.
So today, having learned to navigate the urban labyrinth of the Capital, I bid a temporary farewell to my mother at the outskirt station. Her exploration of this city would take her further out, where she would visit one of the human agricultural facilities. On the other paw, my destination lay at the heart of downtown.
Once I arrived at the downtown station, I switched on my visual overlay, allowing it to project directional instructions across my visual field. It painted a pathway to my destination through the tunnels and covered walkways. The direction landed me in one of the city's gargantuan towers.
The visual overlay translated the name of the school in venscript. Since humans write horizontally, the resulting translation turns a quarter circle. The sign above the entrance says:
"State Elementary School #1"
Number one? I suppose in a city this big, they did need more than one school. Under the sign, I spotted a human figure standing. She waved her arms and I could tell that she had waited for me. When I got closer, I made out the warm and inviting expression on her face
"Hi, I'm Andin, and you must be Principal Vichak?" Her voice sounded melodious and soft for a human. The human clasped her hands in front of her and bowed.
"Hi Principal Andin, nice to meet you," I replied to her with the same gesture. "I can't wait to see your school."
"Excellent! Follow me," she said. Her billowy one-piece dress twirled around her when she turned around.
Andin led me through the lobby and toward a balcony overseeing the heart of this educational facility, an internal atrium spanning three stories in height. The humans embedded the school inside one of their superstructure, and due to the lack of outdoor space, this architectural feature provided a simulated outside area where young humans could engage in physical activity and socialize. A synthetic material replicating grass covered the atrium's floor. Simulated sunlight streamed projected from the ceiling bathed the area in warm daylight.
An assortment of colorful play structures and exercise apparatuses dotted the periphery of the atrium. I presume they provided the students with ways to release those predator energies. Balconies jutted out from each floor, giving educators an overview of the bustling space and enabling effective supervision during playtime. The classrooms and learning spaces surrounded the atrium. As we walked past, I noticed that several of the glass panes had turned opaque.
"I read from the sign that this is an Elementary School. How old are your students?"
"Our elementary school caters to students from the first through fourth grades, so they are between six to ten years old. However, we sometimes admit older students. For instance, we have a few twelve-year-olds in the fourth grade."
Something felt a bit off from her answer. "What's next for them after this?" I probed.
"After completing their time here, students move on to four years of middle school, followed by another four years of high school. During high school, they can choose a specialization before they move on to university."
Her response left me flabbergasted. "Twelve years of education?" I said in disbelief. "It takes a full twelve years to complete education here?"
"Uh... yeah. That's pretty much the standard timeframe for education all over the planet. Just... how long does it take for you to finish your mandatory education?"
"Seven years," I responded. "By the age of thirteen, kids can start two years of vocational school and most venlils started working at fifteen."
Andin's eyes widened, "Wait, you have children working full-time at fifteen?"
"No, they're not children. They're adults." I realized that humans might have different lifespans. "What's... your age of majority here?"
"In this country, people can vote at the age of seventeen. But in our local culture adulthood starts at twenty." Andin explained.
"Alright, maybe we have a different lifespan?" Andin suggested, echoing my thought. "What's the typical lifespan of a venlil?"
"The average life expectancy hovers around ninety years, although many people live past one hundred," I explained. I wonder if perhaps humans live much longer? I didn't expect predators to live long, but humans tend to defy the norm.
"We had the same lifespan," Andin admitted.
"Wait... what?"
"Maybe we have a different education system?" She suggested again. Andin offered me her pad. "Feel free to observe any class that interests you. Here you can see the schedule for today." The contents had been translated into Ventongue. It presented a timeline of various subjects that took place throughout the day.
As my eyes skimmed over the list, one caught my attention. "Can you explain physical education?"
"In this class, we teach children how to exercise." she explained, "In fact, a PE class should begin now."
An adult human arrived on the field, followed by human children chattering and making all sorts of kid noises. They sounded just like venlil juveniles. At the command of the teacher, the students aligned themselves into a tidy grid pattern. A rhythmic melody started to play, filling the atrium with an energetic ambiance. The teacher at the front began to move in sync with the music, demonstrating a series of actions that the children mirrored.
"What are they doing?" I asked, intrigued.
"They're warming up to prepare for the activity ahead."
They performed various movements, the fluidity and synchronization of which appeared almost like a dance to my venlil eyes.
Once the 'warm up' concluded, several large, blocky objects rolled into the atrium. With a series of arm gestures from the teacher, these objects positioned themselves around the area. Some expanded to form rudimentary structures complete with roofs, transforming the atrium into some sort of tiny city.
The children gathered in a circle. Following a brief, excited chatter, they each presented a hand, some with palms facing upward, others showing the backs of their hands. According to some unspoken rule, those showing the backs of their hands stepped back, causing the circle to contract. This ritual continued and I figured out that the group with the most members excused themselves until one kid remained.
"Ah, it seems they're playing 'Hide and Seek' today," Andin commented, watching the unfolding scene with a warm smile.
"Hide and Seek? What's that?"
"One child plays as the 'cat' while the others will play as the 'mice'," she explained, her expression turning somewhat hesitant. "Ah... perhaps this wasn't the most appropriate activity for you to observe."
My translator didn't quite capture the nuances of 'cat' and 'mice', but I gathered they referred to Earth animals. The child designated as the 'cat' stood in the center of the atrium, standing near a pole with their eyes covered, while the 'mice' scattered, seeking shelter behind the fabricated structures and blocks.
The 'cat' began a loud countdown. Upon reaching zero, they removed palms hands from their eyes and commenced their search. A realization struck me as the 'cat' started prowling around.
"This... is," I murmured, taken aback by the implication of the game. "You're simulating a hunt."
From time to time, the humans can't help but remind me that despite their friendliness and civility, they had a history as predators.
"Well... yeah, when you put it like that…" she paused. "But, the children didn't see it as a hunting simulation. I mean… I doubt that none of them will become a hunter when they reach adulthood. Most of us nowadays don't hunt."
"I understand." I looked down and the cat had found a mouse, chaos ensued as the two of them rushed to the pole. The mouse touched the pole first and laughed. "You humans do need an outlet for your aggression to maintain a civil society."
"What? No…" Said Andin. "We have Physical Education to encourage a habit of fitness."
"So, you don't feel the urge to get violent, sometimes?"
"Most of us don't. Those with that kind of urge receive treatments so they don't harm themselves or other people."
I looked down at the human children below. Despite their concerning activity, they looked like they enjoyed it.
"But if this display makes you uncomfortable, we can see other classes."
I looked at the pad, where another class intrigued me.
"You have an art class? In elementary school?"
"Yeah, it encourages creativity… you don't have art classes?"
"No, those with the aptitude will go to art colleges after they graduate from school."
"Oh…" She gave me a look that I think signifies pity? "Are there other things you don't see in Venlil school?"
"The English class seems interesting. I noticed that most of your people can speak in English when needed."
"Heh, that one is contentious." She chuckled. "English is waning now, and people proposed that we teach our kids Chinese, Hindi, or Swahili for the foreign language class. I take it… you don't have a foreign language class?"
"We do, but… like art school, you learn it at the university level, usually as part of a Foreign Relation Studies. Because foreign languages are spoken by other species."
"Interesting." Again, she gave me that concerned look. "So, do you want to see the art class or the language class?"
"Art class. I think."
"Sure, let's go," Andin said, guiding me down the stairs toward the art classroom.
Upon entering the room, chaos greeted us. An eclectic array of children's artwork adorned the walls, showcasing vibrant landscapes, portraits, abstract shapes, and depictions of what I assumed were various earth creatures.
"Ah, Principal Andin," the art teacher greeted us with an inviting smile as we entered. "And we have Principal Vichak as well!"
"Meet Harta, our art teacher," Andin introduced me.
The moment we entered the room, a sea of young faces turned towards us. It felt like a forest of eyes scrutinizing us.
"Children, say hello to our visitor today, Principal Vichak."
"Good morning, Principal Vichak!" They speak in harmony. The children then refocused on their tasks, their hands returning to their brushes and colored pencils.
Some students here worked alone, while others collaborated in small groups. In one corner, I spotted a screen displaying 3D artwork, sculptures made from what looked like recycled materials, clay, and even intricate artwork made of folded paper.
"Today we have a free-form class," Harta explained. "With your visit, I asked them to make something about our two species."
Several children gathered around a large screen at one end of the room, using it to sketch out their designs before replicating them on canvas. They drew scenes of humans and venlils with a level of technical skill and creativity that amazed me, considering the young age of these kids. In one section, busy children molded a piece of clay, their tiny hands trying to create something that looked like a venlil.
"But how do you evaluate their work?" I asked, confused. "And for that matter, how do you grade students in the Physical Education class?"
"In this school system, we don't include art and physical education to determine if a student has what it takes to continue to the next grade," Andin clarified.
"We do give individual feedback to each child," Harta chimed in. "We aim to ensure their personal growth and development, not just their academic achievement."
"Indeed," Andin asserted, her voice reflecting a sense of profound conviction. "The role of the school has evolved over time. These days, we don't work just as a hub for academic instruction, but as a second home where children learn essential life skills. We work hand-in-hand with parents to nurture these young minds, helping them develop into thoughtful and responsible individuals."
This notion brought back memories of my own school back on our homeworld. People would often refer to our school as a "nursery" due to our additional class on socializing and communication. I remember Renata, the human psychologist stationed in our homeland, said that my school had the basis of a well-rounded education. Here I learned just how more "rounded" we need to be.
Throughout the day, we ventured into different classrooms, each offering a snapshot of the subjects covered in human elementary education. The STEM classes felt lackluster by my standards. However, I soon appreciated their teaching approach which encouraged students to arrive at their conclusions.
On the other hand, the social studies and citizenship curriculum appeared more intricate, which made sense, given the complex social structures of the human race, a species as varied and divided as the primitive yotuls.
Midday brought a meal break, during which I had the chance to mingle with some of the other faculty members. I learned that a significant portion of the adults currently abstained from food and drink, on account of what they called the "fasting month". Andin observed the fast as well, but she kept me company in the cafeteria despite her abstinence from eating.
"Are you sure it's alright for me to eat while you're fasting?" I asked, somewhat.
"Of course," she assured me, her face warmed by a gracious smile. "Self-restraint is a fundamental aspect of being human."
Self-restraint, a quality I found woven into the fabric of human nature. Despite the invasion hurling their world into chaos, humans displayed remarkable restraint, refraining from lashing out in anger.
Post-meal, our educational exploration resumed. The sheer number of classes devoted to non-academic skills struck me. For instance, they had a class dedicated to environmental education, where they instructed young learners on how to care for their planet. Another class, called Health and Wellness, focused on areas such as hygiene, nutrition, safety, emotional well-being, and mental health. My visit coincided with a session of "meditation", a peculiar human practice to calm themselves. When I observed the children sitting in tranquil silence with eyes closed and serene music enveloping the room, I realized that they do have a method of quelling aggression, by nurturing a peaceful disposition.
The complexities of human pedagogical methods began to dawn upon me. The length of their educational journey lasted longer than ours because of this multifaceted curriculum. They didn't focus just on the injection of academic knowledge, but they also introduced human development in theirs. Even their academic lessons went beyond feeding students with facts and figures. Instead, they encouraged a more gradual learning pace that fostered independent thinking.
Such an extensive approach to education daunted me. Could we even implement such a model in our venlil school? Considerable obstacles lay on our path, given the expectations of parents and our society at large, who were accustomed to a quicker, more streamlined education.
In any case, my day reached its conclusion, and my time to depart came. When I bid her farewell, Principal Andin provided me with a binder filled with artwork created by the students, along with personal messages for me and the students back at my own school.
I had time to reflect and consider as I walked toward the downtown station. I recalled how Andin and Harta viewed the institution not as a place of learning, but as a secondary caregiver, working hand-in-hand with parents to nurture the holistic development of their young ones.
On my way to the station, my mother called. She informed me she would be coming downtown so we could share a last meal of the day together.
"How did the farm tour go, mama?" I queried, eager to hear about her day.
"It was enlightening," she replied, leaving me curious about her experience. "And what about your day?"
"Oh, mama," I began, a sense of excitement rising in my voice, "I had an extraordinary day."
Afterwords: Humans with their 22nd century education.
Somehow this is the longest chapter I have ever written. Also note on my update schedule. I'm posting update on every date divisible by 3. That means some updates can appear 96 hours later when the last post is on 30th and the month ends in 31st,

2023.06.06 14:22 Late-Difficulty-5928 Getting out of a funk
Tldr: This got a lot longer than I intended. A lot to catch up on! The first part is about where we were. The second is what we are doing to fix it. We organically folded into a holistic method of dealing with clutter and made a lot of important connections while doing it. The kitchen experience has been, by far, the best and most healthy decision we have made.
It's been a while since I have participated here. Some pretty sad things happened and I had not made much progress. I've never been good at sharing when I am being a fuck up or asking for help. I wasted away my entire winter and now warmer weather is rolling in, which is going to prevent me from working in the garage until this coming winter.
Its not all bad, though. I managed to avoid backsliding and engaging old coping mechanisms that compound the hoarding situation. I managed to hold the house together during a time of grief and while it wasn't ideal, it's about a lifestyle, not a meal. Right? It's not that I haven't felt any guilt over not moving forward. I definitely have. It just hasn't been a particularly helpful or motivating feeling.
Depression and grief wreck everything, though. While that part of my life held the line, I still have a drinking problem and I don't really eat my feelings, but I do care less about my body, in general. I quit being active and let my diet slip enough to gain thirty pounds of organ strangling fat, caused by pouring 2-5 beers on top of 3-6 shots of booze every night. Then day drinking on the weekends. I have never been a day drinker. I've always been a functional alcoholic - meaning I can abstain, but when I start, I dont stop until it is all gone and most of the time I want more. The majority of my life, I would probably drink once every few months. The drinking every day is relatively recent. I know this isn't AA, but I will get to how it's related.
About a month ago, I woke up and thought, living like this is going to kill me. What if something happens to my partner? Because he is right there with me. Along with the unhealthy choices and their consequences, I was not sleeping well. That hard, visceral fat makes it incredibly difficult to breath and get comfortable. That's on top of serious health problems I already have. Six months of this and something had to give.
We woke up and started searching for a healthy eating challenge. You know the whole ADHD thing and turning things into a game usually yields some type of immediate success. We made a grocery list and cleaned out the fridge. We took three garbage bags of expired food out of the fridge. I'm not a food hoarder, even. I could give a shit about anything in there. We've both just been too depressed to worry about cleaning out the fridge - for six months. He went to the store. I did a deep clean on the fridge, which was nearly empty. We unpacked the groceries together, and let me tell you. I was super giddy over seeing all the fresh produce and how clean and organized the fridge was. I opened the fridge a few times, just to look at it, it was such a beautiful thing.
We have carried on this schedule for a month. Wake up on the weekend, meal plan for the week and make a grocery list. He goes to the store, I clean out and wipe down the fridge, check the pantry, and print any recipes we need for the week or grab them from our binder, and put them on a clipboard that hangs on the kitchen wall. Only recipes we love go in that binder. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. If we don't love it, the recipe goes in the trash.
The first week, I started meal prep, which is something I have never done before. Like having smoothies for breakfast - buying just enough bananas for a week, cutting them up, splitting into servings and freezing means zero bananas go in the trash. I haven't thought about making banana bread, that I am obviously not going to make, all month. I also spent enough present and sober time to notice the walls were getting a little dusty and grimy, so I washed most of those. The one left requires moving furniture, so it had to wait.
During the second week, I did some more meal prep and did a cursory clean out of the pantry, checking dates and organizing where everything could be easily accessed and seen. That was another trash bag of expired food out the door.
I used to get so angry because I would spend a week cleaning and organizing the kitchen. He would just stuff things in there, not paying attention to how things were organized. Yesterday I opened one of the cabinets and it struck me. Seeing the contrast between the pantry and fridge and these cabinets, I don't think any of those spaces have ever been organized in a way that makes much sense. We don't have upper cabinets, but instead two six foot tall floor cabinets. One cabinet has been things we use often and the other things we use less. Kind of. Then two cardboard boxes of plastic. God knows what. Then we have a lower cabinet, with random shit shoved in there.
I spent the day reorganizing and keep in mind, I've been through all this stuff at least once in the past two years. Barely anything in the cardboard boxes has been used. Lots of tupperware from the 90s. Lids with no bowls. Stained bowls with no lids. Don't ask me why I didn't toss these last time, because they were gross looking, even when clean. All of that went away and there are no longer two cardboard boxes stuffed in my cabinet. Two trash bags and a box of (recyclable) plastic later and you can see and access everything easily and like items are together. Everything has a place and it's evident where everything goes.
So . . . Now there is no more cabinet, fridge, or pantry Jenga. It's more pleasant to cook in there, easier to clean the fridge, easier to put the dishes away. With food being such an integral part of living, it just makes life easier. I hate to admit it, but for the first time in my life, I understand why having highly organized cabinets matters. And for the first time in a long time, I am not just ready to get rid of things. I feel like going through this process is gently rewiring my brain to think about objects and space a lot differently. I felt nothing but excitement over the prospect of an organized space, as I was tossing all that plastic in the bags. I've been motivated sans the period of depression. I've never been this motivated. I have been aware for a while that I wasn't going to organize my way out of the garage hoard or the house clutter. I believe cleaning out a space, where the objects inside were meaningless to me and seeing just how much of a difference it made has highlighted how much I need to get rid of if I want the rest of my life to be as beautiful as my refrigerator.
Health wise, we quit drinking beer and went from six shots a night to four. We are cutting back as we lose weight. We no longer buy booze for Sunday. We chill and have a few glasses of wine. Cleaning and organizing, I am on my feet more and getting more activity. I'm eating a Mediterranean diet and three meals instead of two. I weighed in this morning and I have lost a total of 12 lbs in a month. I still have another 18 to get to my weight before the depression and another 20 for a healthy weight. My body is squishy again, which is better. I sleep better. I have more energy, which feeds into being able to do more work around the house. I feel better mentally and physically.
So, yeah. I missed out on garage season. It's house season, though and I have a very productive Summer ahead. It's amazing what focusing on my nutrition has done for us. That's not in the general sense that just eating better will fix your mental illness or disorder. But focusing on the entire experience of nourishment and making it easier and more pleasant to cook healthy meals. Bonus points are that we are having fun cooking together and actually saving money by not overbuying and doing a little meal prep. That also resulted in a very insignificant amount of waste over the past month.
Over the Summer, I hope to add a kitchen island for more counter space, give the cabinets a fresh coat of paint, get the brand new dishwasher hooked up, and continue to make my kitchen a pleasant place to spend time.
Anyway . . .
If you made it this far, thanks for joining me on this journey. I know it was a novel. I appreciate you!

2023.06.06 13:22 AutoModerator How Can I Watch Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Online Action FullMovie Free For Reddit
Here are options for downloading or watching Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse streaming the full movie online for free on 123movies & Reddit, including where to watch marvel's latest live-action adaptation movies at home. Is Spider-Verse 2 available to stream? Is watching Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse on Peacock, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Netflix or Amazon Prime? Yes, we have found an authentic streaming option/service.
➤►🌍📺📱👉Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse Online Free Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be in theaters beginning June 2. If you're wondering how and where you can watch it yourself, take a look at the information below.
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most. Anyone can wear the mask – it’s how you wear it that makes you a hero.
The much-anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is only a few weeks away, and fans can’t wait to see the new adventures of Miles Morales. Once the Sony Pictures-produced movie ends its theatrical run, it will come to the most popular streamers, including Netflix and Disney Plus. But when is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Netflix and Disney Plus? Here’s what you need to know.
'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' features the return of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy. Just before the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, producers of the feature have announced a couple of other projects. Producer Amy Pascal has announced a forthcoming third installment titled Beyond the Spider-Verse expected to be released next year. That is not the only project announced.
Paint-on-glass, Realistic Cartoon-style to Japanese Manga, makers explore not a couple but way too many animation styles! Shameik Moore’s Miles, in a way, gets a Star-Lord-like treatment in which he beautifully balances his character arc without overstepping the broader scheme of things. Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen finally gets a chance to narrate her side of things, and it mixes well with the ‘star-crossed’ relationship she’s currently sharing with Miles.
If you’re like just about everyone else on the planet who saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and loved it, you’ve probably been waiting for the sequel. You won’t be waiting long, as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally coming out in 2023, a full five years later. It’s been a long wait but by all indications the film is going to be a blast for fans of comic book movies, Miles Morales’ version of Spider-Man, and this new animated franchise featuring the iconic webslinger.
Modern cinema has seen the gap between theatrical and streaming releases shorten dramatically, begging the question of when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release online. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, streaming releases have been much closer to the theatrical release of films. While the mid-COVID marketing technique of releasing movies in theaters and on streaming services at the same time for an extra price is a thing of the past, the gap between the respective releases is still considerably shorter than in decades past.
While we currently don’t know the exact online release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we do know the movie will be released in cinemas worldwide, including the US and UK, on June 2nd, 2023. We know where to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse online, but do we also know when? We can guess once again, assuming it charts the same theater-to-streaming path as Into the Spider-Verse did in 2018 with two months between the theatrical release and its digital renting/buying services. You may be able to buy or rent the movie digitally as early as late July of this year, with a physical release roughly a month or so after that, if not sooner. This also means that you will probably be able to stream Spider-Man: Across on Netflix in early December 2023, as it took about six months from Into the Spider-Verse’s release before the movie landed on the streamer.
When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was one of the many films to get hit by a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, moving from its original date of April 8, 2022, to October 7, 2022. That's the date seen in the above trailer, but the film has since seen another significant delay since then. Now the film is officially set for release on June 2, 2023. Hopefully, we won't see another delay, but if it means getting a sequel that lives up to the sky-high heights of the original, we'll gladly wait.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters?
Not only was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the subject of rave reviews, but it also pulled in some gargantuan levels of cash at the international box office, with a final tally that quadrupled the film's ninety-million dollar budget. With incredible success like that, it's only natural that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would also be taking advantage of a theatrical release. That is the case, as the upcoming film will be exclusively available in theaters when it premieres on June 2nd, 2023.
When is 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' streaming?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse The home distribution rights for Across the Spider-Verse are in a rather interesting place. In April 2021, it was reported that Sony Studios had signed a multiyear deal with both Netflix and Disney for shared streaming rights to Sony films coming out between 2022 and 2026. This deal includes Across the Spider-Verse as well as the third film in the series, Beyond the Spider-Verse, due out in March 2024.
As for releases like Across the Spider-Verse, the film will be available on Netflix with "first-pay-window-rights" for the first 18 months of its home media release. While it will not be streaming concurrently with its theatrical release, it will be available on Netflix following its theatrical run.
Some of the films are not currently available on the service because Sony has pre-existing partnerships with Starz, as that's where most of the absent films are available to stream. That is except for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is instead only streaming on Fubo TV and FX Now.
For anyone else looking to watch the film as soon as possible, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on June 2.
How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
At the moment, you can watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse at your local theater. But like most movies these days, it should hit a streaming website in the near future.
Like its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a flick produced by multimedia conglomerate Disney. What's more, the production studio owns a number of other famous franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Titles made under these umbrellas have both hit Disney+ sometime after arriving at the box office. Fans may also know the original Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently available to stream on the site as well. So, if the 2023 version follows the same pattern, folks will likely get to see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Disney+ later this year too.
As for an exact release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, that's more complicated. Most movies produced by Disney often go to its streamer site within three months after debuting in theaters, like the most recent Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If this is the case for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it will probably drop in late August 2023 or sometime near Labor Day in early September.
When the time comes for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to splash onto Disney+ though, make sure you're all prepared to watch it. If you don't have access yet, you can opt into a 30-day free trial before choosing a plan that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After your account is all set, click on the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app.
As you wait for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to hit the streamer, why don't you watch the animated version and its sequel Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse? Or if you want to immerse yourself in another live-action version, click on the 2019 ABC TV special Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Live!. Enjoy!
Where To Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online:
As of now, the only way to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on June 2, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango.
Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Netflix?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023. In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Fans can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023. The date seems reasonable considering that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped on Netflix on June 26, 2019, six months after its U.S. release on December 14, 2018. The pay-one window usually begins about nine months after a film’s theatrical release, but it might start earlier in particular cases. This post will be updated once there is a 100% officially confirmed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Netflix release date.
When Will Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Be Available On Netflix?
Where will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stream specifically? Due to an ongoing deal between Netflix and Sony (remember that these movies are not produced by Disney), Across the Spider-Verse will see Netflix as the streaming home for the film when it finishes its theatrical run. It will no doubt make its way to Disney+ eventually, as Disney and Sony do have an agreement for Disney to include Sony’s Spider-Man content in their offerings, but that will at least be some time after Across the Spider-Verse has come out on Netflix.
In terms of which of the streaming giants Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on, Netflix will house the film upon its streaming debut. While again, Sony does not have its own dedicated streaming service, a deal was struck in 2021 between the studio and Netflix. The deal, stating that Netflix would stream Sony's films after theatrical release, was penned for 5 years meaning Across the Spider-Verse is part of the arrangement.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Disney Plus?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also coming to Disney Plus approximately in 2025.
Once the pay-one window runs its time and Netflix’s exclusive rights expire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Disney Plus. The pay-one window might last as long as 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the much-anticipated sequel. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S.
While Sony's Spider-Man content is also streaming on Disney+, due to the collaborations between Sony and Marvel Studios in recent years, Across the Spider-Verse will be a Netflix release. While the deal struck between Marvel Studios and Sony may extend to this film, Disney+ is only allowed to begin streaming Sony's Spider-Man releases upon their release on Netflix. As a result, Netflix will be the first streaming service that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on after its theatrical release.
Regarding when the film will be available on Netflix, the answer is less definitive. The first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, began streaming six months after its theatrical release. Based on this, it is safe to assume Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see a similar gap between its cinematic and streaming releases. Given the film's theatrical release of June 2, 2023, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will likely begin streaming on Netflix in December 2023.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

2023.06.06 13:16 lilithmynoir Crazy G5 theory about Opaline’s identity (MLP G5 spoiler)
Disclaimer and premise: 1) I haven’t seen the new chapter, I had prepared this post some time ago but only now I have found the courage to publish it and I wanted to leave it unchanged without being influenced by the new chapter, I will see it after publishing; 2) the following theory is crazy, I realize, it's a hypothesis almost certainly not true but one that came to my mind and I find it interesting as a story at least regardless of the fact that it’s far-fetched and I'm happy to share it with the community; 3) I put "discussion" but it's also a bit "writing" since it's very unrealistic as theories.
The following post is a very long rant but if you love crazy theories I advise you to read it all!
Looking at G5 a question everyone has been asking since her first appearance is: who is Opaline? We know that she’s so far the only/last direct witness of G4 era, but we know nothing more about her past.
Is she a new character? (I don’t think so) Is she a character who has already appeared in G4 (or that has connection with one or more G4 characters)? for those who haven’t seen G4 she would be a historical character, for those who have seen G4 it would be a plot twist, a revelation…
Is she a Twilight pupil? (Lustre Dawn? Under Opaline's purple there is pink and Lustre had a fire-themed cutie mark) King Sombra or relative? (curved horn) A new character native from Mistmane areas or Mistmane herself? (same reason) Cozy Glow? (we've seen her alicorn form, sometimes Opaline acts a bit like her, she has a wavy mane and tail with Cozy's colours reversed and the opalescence looks reveal the pink under the purple) Chrysalis? (she is an alicorn in a sense and she can shapeshift, the opalescence theme goes well with that) Starlight? (mane and tail wavy with blue) Sunset Shimmer? (she's “made of fire” like all Sunset themes)...
Maybe she's a character who was already an alicorn: Luna? (I don't think so) Cadence? (she's the only princess, perhaps with her daughter, who hasn't "ascended" and hasn't achieved the status of an immortal/long-lived floating mane physical goddess) Celestia? (she's “made of fire” a bit like Daybraker) Flurry Heart? (she may have lost her parents early since we don't see them in “The Last Problem” and we see a stained glass window of her young which could represent her coronation, the loss of her parents so early may have been the beginning of darkness for her, also Opaline always talks about the superiority of alicorns and Flurry is the only born alicorn that we know of, also we haven't seen her cutie mark so that might be what Opaline has, she also has a wavy mane and tail with blue) Another alicorn never seen? (a Celestia and Luna’s mother? she speaks of Equestria as if it had been hers)…
My crazy theory (I don't know if anyone has already proposed it) is that she could be Twilight herself, it's crazy, but it has its logic:
1) Opaline is a purple alicorn with dark eyes but in cold tones (dark blue, Twilight purple), has a mane and tail of one colour with a stripe of another (blue white with a light blue streak, Twilight purple with a fuchsia and another purple streaks), just like Twilight
2) Opaline seems to know before the protagonists that magic stabilizes with friendship and harmony, concepts that generally the MLP’s villains ignore and don’t understand
3) Twilight appears as a hologram and never mentions Opaline, there is an interference right on her name, this cannot be a ploy to ensure that the protagonists are unaware of the identity of the villain because even if they had known her name it wouldn't have changed anything, and it can't be to hide Misty because at the time of Twilight Misty wasn't there yet; my theory is that the recording is before the fall of Twiligth and was referring to Cozy Glow for example and not to Opaline
4) The EG human counterparts of the mane 6 aren’t exactly the same as the mane 6 ponies probably due to the different world, the different lives, the different external stimuli they encounter on the paths of their lives… however they have differences compared to their pony counterparts but they have similar personalities, so if human Twilight has a dark side and has turned into Midnight Sparkle, also manifesting relapses due to insecurity and power incontinence, then Twilight pony can also have a dark side, simply the human Twilight's circumstances brought it out
5) Opaline wears some pieces of armor which are similar to the “bracelets” which Twilight wears in “The last problem”, or is it just those accessories to the hooves that turned her into Opaline?
6) Opaline always mentions “taking back what's hers” when referring to Equestria and magic, so we have to assume that, if she's not lying or exaggerating, these things were hers at some point, Equestria was belonged to Twilight when she was the only ruler and Twiligth should have been the one who put the magic into the crystals, probably also hers because her hologram represents her without moving mane
7) Opaline has taken Misty with her, she is psychologically violent with her but it was still a nice disinterested gesture because apparently she considers her useless and she could create strategies and minions herself to spy and for all the rest of her plans
8) Opaline is “made of fire”, we don't know what that means however Twilight has a cutie mark and a name that represent sparks, the spark and fire are something associated with Twilight in many ways (the spark to activate the elements, the spark of friendship, the spark of when she becomes a princess, the fire of the dragon with which she communicates with Celestia...), then in “Feeling Pinkie Keen” when Twilight is exasperated she blanches and her mane turns on fire (it's played for laughs but still…)
9) It wouldn't make sense to include a character, a villain/enemy/antagonist in this case, who comes from G4 era if he weren't a character that those who have watched G4 already know and he could be Twilight, for those who have seen G4 it would be a shock, for those who haven’t seen G4 it would be a legendary fallen hero of generations before (as the Pony of Shadows or Nightmare Moon in G4 for example)
10) There is some evidence against this theory, such as Opaline's personality completely different from Twilight's or Opaline who talks about Twilight as a different pony saying "how does Twilight still interfere with my plans" but we could suppose she meant to say how her “light” version still interferes with the plans of her “dark” current self, or that she said it because Misty herself doesn't know her identity; the name “Opaline” and the physical opalescence can refer to a stratification of personality, to an “armor” of evil that conceals a fallen hero
11) Opaline's cutie mark reminds the prism in some way, what if she obtained it by transferring the magic into the crystals? In G5 cutie marks seem to be more generic, maybe since the magic is in the crystals; her cutie mark apparently appears among the Argyle studies
12) Sunny and Misty’s stories at the sleepover are different but with points in common, what if they were both a little bit true and a little bit false? If where does the story of the magic put into the crystals end the Opaline’s truth begins? If the truth lies in the middle?
13) Let's imagine that for one reason or another at some point Twilight had a breakdown, something caused her downfall, it could be: losing someone; an invincible enemy; surviving her friends (the authors said that it isn’t so, however...); an event that ruined the idyllic harmony she had built (as we know this happened at some point, perhaps gradually starting from Cozy, Tirek and Chrysalis wreaking havoc); a relapse into evil by a villain she had reformed; to be seen as the unchallenged all-powerful ruler chosen by previous beloved rulers, a child prodigy from a very young age, but treated like a newcomer, told that she is special but without anyone acting accordingly, it’s difficult a change of power after millennia of Celestia and Luna’s reign...
One or more of the assumptions I made or anything else could have caused Twilight to fall at some point and at this point she would have transformed into evil (alone or not), or she was defeated (by Celestia or anyone else) and wounded (perhaps with the horn broken, that's why it's curved now), at this point she would have been helped by a greater evil (the real Grogar? Or someone else) who would have sensed her dark energy and transformed into Opaline, it would also explain why Opaline's goals seem relatively limited to Equestria and pony magic, someone above her already wants to subjugate MLP’s universe.
It may also be that Opaline/Twilight is ancestorelated in some way to Sunny: Opaline tries to get her on her side, Sunny is in part alicorn and the theme of fire involves her too...
This theory can manifest itself in other ways as well, but my basic theory is this: Opaline and Twilight are the same pony.
I realize this is a crazy theory and will probably never turn out to be true, but I put a lot of time into it, at worst someone can make a fan fiction based on it!

2023.06.06 13:00 maheshexport The Benefits of Outdoor Rugs: Why Every Outdoor Space Needs One.
Outdoor rugs have become an increasingly popular choice for enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of outdoor spaces. Whether you have a spacious backyard, a cozy balcony, or a rooftop terrace, outdoor rugs offer numerous benefits that can transform these areas into stylish and inviting.
The comfort and coziness outdoor rugs offer is one of their major benefits. You and your visitors will be inspired to spend quality time outside by the softness of the ground. The coziness of an outdoor rug elevates your outdoor experience, whether you're sitting on a chair or strolling barefoot.
In addition to comfort, outdoor rugs help define and divide spaces within your outdoor area. By strategically placing an outdoor rug, you can create distinct zones for dining, lounging, or entertaining. This not only adds structure and organization but also enhances the overall functionality of your outdoor space.
Outdoor rugs provide a wide variety of aesthetic choices. You may select outdoor rugs that match your individual style and go well with your current outdoor décor, from bold patterns to soft tones. They act as decorative components that connect various design components, such as furniture, plants, and accessories, to produce a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing outdoor setting.
Moreover, outdoor rugs provide protection and durability. Made from materials that resist fading, mold, mildew, and stains, they are designed to withstand outdoor elements and high foot traffic. This not only ensures the longevity of your outdoor rug but also protects your deck, patio, or flooring from damage.
Another important advantage of outdoor rugs is safety. Surfaces that are slick can be dangerous, especially if they get wet. Outdoor rugs with textured or non-slip backings offer traction and reduce the possibility of slips and falls. This will make everyone's outdoor space safer, especially around hot tubs, pools, and other wet or humid regions.

2023.06.06 12:51 vpyr [Rise of the elven sage] - Chapter 32
Chapter 1 Previous Chapter Disgust swelled within Raphael as the full magnitude of their predicament became clear. The world they inhabited was plagued by an insidious darkness, where prejudice and exploitation ran rampant.
"And believe it or not it's the official stance of our dear government," George exclaimed, his voice tinged with a mix of disbelief and anger. The news hit like a punch to the gut, especially after their isolation in New Trampton. The depths of human desperation were unfathomable. "Can ya imagine? People were so damn scared that they didn't think twice about selling their own flesh and blood to those power-hungry maniacs. Just like Sanya's parents," George spat out the words, the disgust and dread dripping from each syllable.
“The government's got a target on our backs. We're going head-on against them and others without morals and scruples to rescue Vivian. But here's the thing, once we pull that off, we can't just stroll into a happy reunion. Oh no, my friend, we'll have to vanish into the shadows, disappear like smoke in the wind." The Orc's words hung in the air, a stark reminder of the dangerous path ahead. “And you really want to do that for me?”, Raphael asked unsure. “Yes, we would.”, came from behind of Raphael.
Raphael spun around, his eyes landing on Sanya as she emerged from the embrace of the blanket. A gentle shuffle of footsteps brought her closer, her movements slow and deliberate, as if tiptoeing through a dream. The remnants of sleep clung to her, evident in the way she rubbed her eyes and let out a weary yawn. But what caught Raphael's attention the most was the way her tail, like a secret treasure, coiled protectively around her form, as if seeking shelter from prying eyes. Taking her place beside Raphael, Sanya cast her gaze upon the Orc with a glimmer of hope dancing in her eyes. A subtle shift in her posture brought her closer, her head gently finding its rest upon Raphael's shoulder. The unexpected weight of her trust settled upon him, catching him off-guard. In that moment, as her presence nestled against him, he couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions stirring within, a mix of gratitude and responsibility intertwining in his heart.
“Whaaaaat is for breakfast?”, she said more yawning than speaking. “Scrambled eggs, Sausages and Beacon. I have some Orange juice as well. Will be ready soon.”, the Orc said as he turned around onto finishing the breakfast. “Thanks for saving me.”, Sanya whispered so low that Raphael thought it to be his imagination. “I will not forget that. I am so glad you are alright.”
Sanya's tiny hands clutched Raphael's chest, seeking comfort within its protective embrace. She buried her face against him, her sobs escaping in hushed whispers, their echo tugging at his heart. Feeling the dampness seep through his clothes, he realized her tears stained his chest, mingling with his own sense of helplessness. Gently, he cupped her head, guiding it tenderly against his chest, his touch offering reassurance and comfort. With a rhythmic motion, he soothingly patted her head, hoping to ease her distress and provide a brief respite from the turbulent world that surrounded them.
“I am alright. You will be alright. We will be there for you. We won’t leave you alone. I promise.”, the Elf said reassuring. “See I told ya, he is a good guy.”, the Orc chimed in. “Oh shut up you stupid Orc!”, Raphael answered.
A fleeting moment of silence hung in the air, interrupted by the gentle melody of Sanya's laughter. Her eyes, now adorned with a delicate smile, lifted to meet Raphael's gaze. In that precious instant, the tears that once cascaded from her eyes had ceased their descent, offering her a glimmer of solace. Raphael's heart swelled with gratitude, knowing that amidst the chaos and uncertainty, the young girl had found a semblance of trust in their companionship.
“Seems like we became Dad’s”, Raphael joked. “Seems like it. But I will be the cool Dad, ya can be the strict one.”, replied the Orc as he put the food on the table. “Dig in everybody.”
“What did you have in mind? Looks like you already have a plan”, Raphael asked inbetween bites. “Oh your eggs are tasty!” “Yes, let’s begin with telling ya how it all comes along in the first place”, the Orc began to explain.
As they savored their meal, George delved into the intricacies of his role in the underground auction. His words flowed like a captivating narrative, holding Raphael's rapt attention. It felt as though he had stumbled upon a tale straight from the cherished pages of his beloved books. The very concept of this clandestine event seemed surreal, something that could easily be dismissed as a wild conspiracy theory or the concoction of a deranged mind. Yet, here he was, listening to George, a person he had grown to trust even in this short time. From the masks to capes, every detail had been meticulously planned to shroud the identities of those involved. It didn't sit right with Raphael. The thought of what would be sold off, the illicit transactions that would unfold, weighed heavily on his conscience. A part of him longed to dismantle it all, to expose this dark underbelly to the world. But then again, there was the one thing that compelled him to play along—to seize the opportunity to retrieve Vivian, to bring her back into his arms. Yet, as if reading his thoughts, George reminded him of the dangerous truth. This operation had government backing, and any attempt to expose it would brand him as a lunatic or, worse yet, silence him permanently. The stakes were high, and Raphael knew he had to tread carefully, balancing his desire for justice with the need to navigate the treacherous terrain of this perilous world. In spite of the this, the trio that ate some breakfast, planned to sabotage the event. With George's invaluable insider knowledge as the organizer, they saw a glimmer of hope—a chance to liberate Vivian and secure their own escape before the participants would notice what went wrong. Yet, their victory would only mark the beginning of a new set of challenges. Where could they find refuge in this perilous world, where danger lurked around every corner? As transformed beings, their very existence painted a target on their backs—a fact reaffirmed by the haunting image of McKennsy.
After George unveiled the intricate workings of the underground auction, a heavy silence settled upon them. Raphael sensed a multitude of unanswered questions lingering in the air. How would they free Vivian? How would they navigate their escape? And where would their journey lead them? The road ahead was treacherous, fraught with uncertainty, and their small band consisted of unlikely comrades—an Elf with just a little unstable magic, an Orc with unconventional skills in art and illegal organization, and a young girl, blissfully consuming her bacon. It was far from an ideal situation, yet amidst the challenges, a few truths remained crystal clear.
They knew the risks involved, understood that their lives would once again hang in the balance. But they had made a pact—a steadfast commitment to stick together, to protect and support one another, forged through the shared experience of having been captured and the knowledge of being hunted.
“Can I get some juice?”, Sanya asked, surprising Raphael and George alike. The girl seemed to have an uncanny feeling to know when to lighten up a mood. “Sure.”, the orc said as he poured a glass of orange juice for her. “Let me try something.”, Raphael said reaching for the glass.
