2023.03.30 07:32 Relevant_Use_6613 New theory about Mr. Martin and observations on other ghosts
So after reading some stuff on Mr. Martin I've been thinking about something I haven't seen posted. I definitely agree that something is MAJORLY off about him. I have a theory, which isn't exactly thought out all the way so I could be wrong but here goes:
Something I read suggested based on the story about his childhood he probably died around the late 40s- early 60s. Possibly putting him dying a few years before Rhonda.
Someone posted that perhaps Janet hadn't actually moved on but something else had happened to her (this is the part I'm unsure of, but i do NOT think she has possessed Maddie). So my theory is this:
Mr. Martin was a teacher at the school. What if he killed a student (maybe Janet) and then killed himself? (We haven't seen a case of a suicide but I feel like it's unlikely they were ALL accidents)
He might have helped Janet actually move on and maybe his way of repenting for his misdeeds in life is to help the ghosts of the children killed at the school move on. He doesn't move on because his new purpose is to help the others that come and go.
If he did kill a student. There's a significant enough time gap for dawn and the others to not know anything about the murdesuicide (dawns kinda pushing it) but Rhonda would probably remember. He tells her she's "come along way" and evidence shows he has had to persuade her to participate in the past. Her reluctance might be because she knows what he did and he's had to convince her that he is sorry and wants to atone. Could they have made a bargain that she won't tell the other ghosts what he's done if he helps her cross over?
Charlie didn't want anyone to know Maddie could talk to Simon and once Rhonda and wally found out they all agreed that he shouldn't know. I do agree with the posts that say Maddie is helping the others to move on where Mr. Martin doesn't seem to have been able to accomplish her amount of progress.
OBSERVATIONS ON OTHER GHOSTS
someone posted that they have wally listed for all 8 episodes of the first season but baby, when he pulled that jersey off I thought he was gonna just cross on over up outta there. I think we might start seeing ghosts cross over as early as the season 1 finale.
I think Charlie will be there with her until the end but I mentioned in another post about a theory as to why Simon can see Maddie due to an "unconditional love" type relationship. I think once Emilio receives the new letter Charlie writes from beyond the grave Charlie will watch him read it. He will find his feelings for Charlie again and he will be able to see Charlie (probably only for a few moments) that business is resolved and Charlie's new unfinished business is helping his new friend Maddie solve her murder and he will cross over after that.
I'm super curious to know what happened to dawn and Yuri as well as the other 3 therapy members that we haven't heard from at all. I mentioned in another post that I believe the Hispanic kid is the one who dies in the auto room (based on his clothes) but I'm curious about the Gothic looking girl and the African American girl that looks to be from the late 60s, early 70s.
Speaking of the 60s/70s lady. Does anyone else think she kinda looks more like a young teacher as opposed to a student? I don't know, that could just be me but she appeared older than the others.
What are you guy's thoughts? It'll be interesting to see the last 3 episodes of this season.

2023.03.30 07:29 TheVirgoNymph Is it weird to be official with a guy from Hinge after only 4 weeks? M22 F20
TLDR: I’m now officially dating a guy (first bf) after 4 weeks and literally 4 dates (ofc we talk on socials but that’s different) and don’t know if this is weird, especially as a Gen Z who is so accustomed to guys with commitment issues, Situationship culture and confusion. Any advice? What do you think, is it weird ?
Hi guys, I’m a 20 y/o (F) who matched with a 22 y/o (M) on Hinge (don’t judge me haha). I didn’t know what to expect but we quickly hit it off and he began to seem quite smitten. I, normally very confident, was surprised to find myself shy and nervous for the most part. I really liked him and my shyness at first made it glaringly obvious and I couldn’t ignore it. It’s clear we find each other attractive and both have the same values. He’s very mature, is goal driven, has a stable job and is a bit of a nerd like me. (We both read a lot!) We’re also both very sporty. I’m a cheerleader and he loves to play American Football at the moment lool. We went on a date once a week for 4 weeks, he was such a gentleman. He planned 3 and made me pick one for our second date after our first was very low-key and casual. Our last and 4th date we were later at a bar and I was my most confident with him, returning physical affection more and even running my fingers through his hair. The bar later closed and before we left he told me he had to go to the restroom but that when he came back he had to ask me something. We left and shortly after he asks me “what are we”. I’ve never dated before (he knows this) and I shyly respond that I don’t know. He then asks if I’d like to date him. I shyly say I wouldn’t be against it and he says he wouldn’t be either. I instantly panicked inside… What do I say?? What is happening?? We’d already told each other we liked each other, nervously kissed a few times, (me nervous not him) and made it clear we both weren’t dating anyone else. Soo my thought process was it would be less scary to just say we’re exclusive. Right? But we already were! Hence that makes zero sense. And in my head I was like… He knows what he wants and doesn’t want to go through limbo where we are dating in all but name. No situationship necessary, hallelujah! This is what dating should be, right? So I ended up jumping and saying yes and now ever since (almost a week) I’m not sure if I sound mad to have done so. Full disclosure - I was surprised to meet a young man who even wanted commitment and showed it, despite it always being what I’ve tried to hold out for. I’m just not sure if, even with all of the positives, that this may still seem rushed. He saw my nerves and said that even though we’re dating that we’d take things slow as he doesn’t want me to feel uncomfortable. He even said if it’s too soon we can wait to be official which only made me double down that it was still a yes but that it had taken me by surprise. Help a girl out w/ advice or even just your takes please, I’d be so grateful! :)

2023.03.30 07:16 Avy-Jorraelan Manifesting queens singing other queens’ songs in the show
Seeing Alaska perform “Let Loose” in her shows makes me wanna see it done in Drag Race itself. I would be living if someone next season sings “Let Loose” in the talent show. Which songs would you want to see performed? Aside from “Let Loose”, I’d love to see Alaska’s “Your Makeup is Terrible”, Bebe’s “Banjo”, Trixie’s “Hello Hello”, Alaska and Gia’s “Stun” and “American Apparel Ad Girls” (Alaska, Willam, Courtney).

2023.03.30 07:03 Background_Tax_5969 My Muslim girlfriend [24F] broke up with me [25M], also Muslim because things weren't fast enough
tl;dr: GF broke up with me because we're approaching the year mark and we aren't married/engaged yet, but we shared a lot together and I think it's all my fault and I want to fix it but I'm blocked everywhere.
Trigger alert: I've made a lot of mistakes but I'm just going to be blunt and honest to get actionable feedback. Also this is more-so of a different situation than most people as we're both Muslim-Americans and typically things are done more traditionally in our community.
Posting here because my posts in MuslimMarriage keep getting removed for reasons I don't think are fair.
Long story short, I met this girl about a year ago and we fell in love and met each other's families like 2 months in, went on trips secretly, even lived together for 4-5 months (all this in secret from our families) and had sex regularly. As far as our parents knew, we just met up once in a while, as we both live far away in a different city.
Our families initially got along well, but 6 months into it, her mom got mad at my family and called me to yell at me, for my parents asking some more details about her family with a different mutual family. Her parents are divorced and dad is not in the picture and very few male members of the family available to chat to. My parents as a result told me to hold off on the engagement/marriage for another 6 months and they got a bad feeling that her mother might cause some trouble for me later down the line as a result of her mother's phone call.
Approaching the 1 year mark, we were supposed to get engaged and then get married shortly after and we both went and bought a whole bunch of gold, dresses, etc, for the function and she was excited and so was I, and I paid for it all because I love this girl and want to be with her forever. But then my dad had an emergency surgery that popped up that delayed things by another month and she and her mom were really angry about this. 2 days later, she messages me over text saying she wants to end things, and now I'm blocked everywhere.
Of course, I'm embarrassed by this, but I only did this because I thought I was going to marry this girl. We have A LOT of history together now and it's killing me that I did all this with her and now she's just a stranger. Everyone knows that we were together, and I'm all in her university pictures for every function.
I honestly think her decision was greatly influenced by her mother who was getting annoyed that we hadn't made anything official, which I understand, but her actions slowed things down. If anything, when she called and yelled at me, my parents were ready to walk away from everything, so it took a while to even get them to come back and even agree to 6 more months. And if anything, now that we've spent all this time knowing each other, doing all of this, it's all the more reason that we should be together since we've done so much more.
It's been a month since this breakup happened and I've gotten nowhere; I've tried calling heher mom/her friends and its all radio silence. I emailed her with all the details, telling her that we can get married, as soon as in 2 weeks, and all that she needed to do was to call me back and I would sort out everything, but no response to that.
She used to tell me that she loved me and that she would never give up on us. She told me that she was a virgin and that she would never leave as we had given it up to each other and I feel so incredibly guilty about it too, because now I've shared this super big thing with someone who is now just a stranger. I really wish that she would at least just pick up the phone so that we can talk about it and I'm confident that we can sort out all of our issues if we just communicated but she's gone. My family tells me that this was a good thing for me because being in a relationship with someone who's so quick to leave, and someone who takes a hard line and doesn't want to communicate with you. They say that, it's possible that she would just leave/divorce you down the line when times got tough because it wasn't what she wanted, and that I got off "lucky" with just a break up. I don't know if that's true or not, but it does bother me so much that she always told me that she loved me and would never leave, but now she broke up with me over text and just vanished. It's so heartless and cold, especially with someone you've spent all this time with and all of these milestones.
We have so many memories together, so many trips, so many photos, so much everything and now it just hurts so much inside knowing that I shared all of these things with her and it looks like these things don't even mean much to her? Maybe she is thinking the same thing as me and crying as well and is just trying to take a hard line, but unsure of why? I guess I'll never know.
I've stopped reaching out at this point because it just seems pointless and I don't know if it's even helping. But I have this empty feeling inside of me and I don't know what to even do. I feel cheated and just frustrated and I'm so angry at myself for doing all of this with someone who was lying about their feelings throughout.
My friends told me to download the dating apps and find someone else, and I tried that but, it just feels like I'm cheating on my ex-girlfriend and I don't even want to do all that I did with her with someone else. I don't think I'll ever find anyone like her and I'm just super depressed and I feel like it's all my fault; if I had just proposed like 6-8 months in like she wanted, we wouldn't be here right now. Now I'm losing sleep over her every single night.

2023.03.30 07:02 ThinkThink23 Prophets and Fallibility: Item 20: Genetics and the Book of Mormon
Click here to read the introduction to this series I held
a poll to gauge interest by topic for this series. BoM-BoA-JST is currently neck and neck with Law of Chastity and sex, so we will probably skip around Reel's list a bit to cover those topics first. The item for this post was interesting enough to have separate post. But in the future I may group similar items together in a single post to save time.
Let's get started.
List 1: Prophets and Fallibility: A Record of Mormon Leader's Reversals and Abandonment of Past Teachings Item 20:
Church Leaders have taught that Lamanites were the principle ancestors of Native Americans. Because of the Science of DNA research the Church has had to compromise its position and now teaches that Lamanites are among the ancestors of Native Americans. The reality is there is essentially no Israelite DNA in Native Americans that can be traced to those of Jewish descent during the right time period to even come close to validating the Book of Mormon narrative. What this means is we now have zero ability to pinpoint any specific Naticve American and ensure he/she is a Lamanite. This has deep repercussions for Mormon Theology and the stated purpose of the Book of Mormon. (SOURCE)(SOURCE)(SOURCE)(SOURCE)
(Copied verbatim)
Resources provided:
- Wikipedia - Genetics and the Book of Mormon
- Institute for Religious Research - Lamanites No More: DNA and Lost Ties to Father Lehi

- LDS Gospel Topics Essays - Book of Mormon and DNA Studies
u/BillReel provided a summary for List 1:
This list collected beliefs that once existed in the Church but have been reversed or abandoned. The idea was to show believers how nothing is consistent and everything changes. Which begs the question of what do the top Leaders give us that points to an eternal unchanging God. And shows that to some degree these men are just flying by the seat of their pants.
Conveniently, this provides a decent
Test Criteria for this Item 20:
- Was the belief reversed or abandoned?
- Does the belief show how nothing is consistent and everything changes?
- How large is the impact of this belief in pointing us toward an eternal unchanging God?
- Does this belief show that the leaders of the church are “flying by the seat of their pants?”
So, with this test criteria in mind, what are your thoughts on this item? Do you think it is a problem? How do you personally reconcile this change in the church's teachings?
I look forward to our discussions.

2023.03.30 06:34 Ezra_is_a_dumb_boy Every season 1 - 19 contestant and semi-finalist
A little messy as the placements are random, except if their state was shown 3 times so bear with me. I'm gonna give some fun facts about the semifinalist bc they aren't as well known.

Texas was done dirty this season. Many of the semi finalist (Tuesday, Madelynne, Aimee, Julianna and Nida) are all from Texas (Brittany also lived there for a while) and for some reason, Ren was casted? The reason why is because they wanted someone to create drama and all the top 20 remaining girls were nice (except one) so they brought Ren.
Hallie was a top 20 girl, and she was bratty and spoiled. So why wasn't she casted? Both her and production found out that she was pregnant so she couldn't continue.
cycle 15: Tyrie from Indianapolis, Indiana Justine from Indianapolis, Indiana De'Yana from Detroit, Michigan Chelsey from Boise, Idaho Jane from Baltimore, Maryland Jessica from Willow Grove, Pennsylvania Esther from Boston, Massachusetts Lauren from Brettwood, Tennessee Vanessa/Violet from Lakeville, Minnesota Emily C. from Ona, West Virginia Toya from Beaufort, South Carolina Christina from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Kendal from Northport, Alabama Emily H. from Barboursville, West Virginia Terra from Arlington, Texas Anna from Dallas, Texas Lyzbeth/Liz from Arlington, Texas Christin/Chris from Arlington, Texas Laura from New York, New York Anamaria from Queens, New York Sara from Tarrytown, New York Alexia/Lexie from Geneva, Illinois Nitasha from Chicago, Illinois Jillian from Chicago, Illinois Kayla from Rockford, Illinois Jordan from Chicago, Illinois Kacey from Palmdale, California Emi from Pismo Beach, California Rylee from Orange County, California Sara B. from Menifee, California Shelby from Beverly Hills, California Rhianna from San Diego, California Mindy from Murrieta, California Anna (unknown) Jen (unknown)
Jen is an unknown Asian girl who just randomly slipped away from production and ran away during auditions.
cycle 16: Laree from Atlanta, Georgia Breanna from Blaine, Minnesota Elizabeth from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Molly from Olathe, Kansas Annabelle from Manhattan, New York Sierra from Park City, Utah Kari from Steamboat Springs, Colorado Taneisha from Anniston, Alabama Brittani from Beech Creek, Pennsylvania Tiffany from Hattiesburg, Mississippi Molly O. from Charleston, South Carolina Ondrei from Muskegon, Michigan Kasia from Wheaton, Illinois Yashure from East Saint Louis, Illinois Monique from Hebron, Illinois Alexandria from Huntington Beach, California Dalya from Corona, California Vee from Sacramento, California Dominique from Houston, Texas Jaclyn from Belton, Texas Rune from Edinburg, Texas Hannah from Houston, Texas Mikaela from Boca Raton, Florida Deidrian from Lauderdale Lakes, Florida Nicole from Orlando, Florida Angelia from Pembroke Pines, Florida the unnamed stripper from Mobile, Alabama
The fake out girls were not actresses, they were real people. This is more well known now but maybe you didn't know.
cycle 17: Seymone from Augusta, Georgia Allison from Houston, Texas Isis from Prince George's County, Maryland Mariah from Pendleton, Oregon Kyle from Magnolia, Texas Laura K. from Stanford, Kentucky Eboni from Seattle, Washington Kayla from Rockford, Illinois Dominique from Columbus, Ohio Molly from Olathe, Kansas Shannon from Franklin, Ohio AzMarie from San Fernando Valley, California Alexandria from Newport Beach, California Lisa from Los Angeles, California Angelea from Buffalo, New York Laura L. from Scotia, New York Sheena from Harlem, New York Candace from Brooklyn, New York Bre from Harlem, New York Camille from The Bronx, New York Bianca from Queens, New York
Before season 17 was an Allstars season, it was just a regular season. Some of the 32 girls included Candace, Laura L, AzMarie, Eboni, Kyle, Mariah, Seymone and Molly (a season 16 fake-out girl). Production changed it last minute and everyone last minute accept Molly went on cycle 18. This was confirmed by Molly and AzMarie
cycle 18: Amelia from Port Talbot, Wales Laura from Scotia, New York Eboni from Seattle, Washington Candace from Brooklyn, New York Mariah from Pendleton, Oregon Kyle from Magnolia, Texas AzMarie from San Fernando Valley, California Seymone from Augusta, Georgia Ashley from Armadale, Scotland Alisha from South London, England Jasmia from London, England Sophie from Oxford, England Catherine from Folkestone, England Louise from London, England Annaliese from London, England
There was another American girl that was a semifinalist on cycle 17 and moved to 18. She dropped out, however, before production started. They had to cut a UK girl out to make it more equal and that was Amelia.
cycle 19: Latrishe from Washington D.C Ivory from Whittier, California Nastasia from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Jamie from Gahanna, Ohio Lauren from Ann Arbor, Michigan Deedra from from Portland, Oregon Jessie from Speedway, Indiana Victoriana from San Diego, California Brittany from Gilbert, Arizona Savanna from East Lansing, Michigan Kiara from Las Vegas, Nevada Allyssa from Fort Lauderdale, Florida Kaci from Moon Township, Pennsylvania Christin from Cook County, Illinois Destiny from Columbus, Ohio Yvonne from Minneapolis, Minnesota Kristin from Jacksonville, Florida Leila from Farmington, Massachusetts Sara from Seattle, Washington Maria from Las Cruces, New Mexico Victoria from Colquitt, Georgia Darian from Baton Rouge, Louisiana Laura from Cambridge, New York Caroline from Awendaw, South Carolina Amber from Sachse, Texas Jasmine from Fort Worth, Texas Briana from Southlake, Texas Andie from San Antonio, Texas Sasha from Dallas, Texas Delaney from Dallas, Texas
These are the hometowns of all the college girls instead of their college cities. Like season 14, Texas was done dirty.

2023.03.30 06:27 MsWeather It Is Time to Show the American People Photographs of Children Massacred by Gun Violence — Pictures convey reality in a way that words cannot. One of these days, the parents of children murdered in a school shooting may make the same decision Mamie Till did of her son Emmett in 1955.
And now we have another mass school shooting, this time in Tennessee with three 9-year-old girls dead as well as 3 adults.
Immediately followed by another pathetic Republican congressman claiming that Congress can’t do a thing. A community is grieving, schoolkids across America are terrified, and
after 130 mass shootings in the first 87 days of this year — 33 of them in schools and colleges — you’d think average Americans would finally understand the horrors of the gun violence Republicans in Congress and on the Supreme Court have inflicted on us.
This is a phenomenon as systemic and unique to the United States today as Jim Crow was in the 1950s. The gun control movement needs to learn from the Civil Rights movement.
Back in 1955, young Black people like 14-year-old Emmett Till were routinely murdered by white people all over America, usually with no consequence whatsoever.
Emmett Till was kidnapped by two Mississippi white men, brutally tortured, murdered, and his mangled body was thrown into the Tallahatchie River. (And the white men who did it, and the white woman who set it off with a lie, never suffered any consequence.*)
His mother, Mamie Bradley, made the extraordinarily brave decision to show her child’s mutilated face with an open-coffin funeral in their hometown of Chicago.
Jet magazine ran a picture you can see here of Emmett, which went viral, invigorating the Civil Rights movement as it horrified the nation. As President Biden
said last month, honoring the release of the new movie Till:
“JET magazine, the Chicago Defender and other Black newspapers were unflinching and brave in sharing the story of Emmett Till and searing it into the nation’s consciousness.”
That picture made real the horrors of white violence against Black people in America for those who were unfamiliar, or just unwilling, to confront it.
We’ve all heard about Newtown and Stoneman Douglas and Las Vegas, but have you ever seen pictures of the bodies mutilated by the .223 caliber bullets that semi-automatic assault weapons like the AR15 fire?
The odds are pretty close to zero; most Americans have no idea the kind of damage such weapons of war can do to people, particularly children.
But we need to learn.
In the 1980s, egged on by partisans in the Reagan administration, America’s antiabortion movement begin the practice of holding up graphic, bloody pictures of aborted fetuses as part of their demonstrations and vigils.
Their literature and magazines, and even some of their advertisements, often carry or allude to these graphic images.
Those in the movement will tell you that the decision to use these kinds of pictures was a turning point, when “abortion became real“ for many Americans, and even advocates of a woman’s right to choose an abortion started using phrases like “legal, safe, and rare.“
Similarly, when the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo of 9-year-old “Napalm Girl” Phan Thị Kim Phúc running naked down a rural Vietnamese road after napalm caught her clothes on fire was published in 1972, it helped finally turned the tide on the Vietnam War.
There are legitimate concerns about sensationalizing violence, about morbid curiosity, about warping young minds and triggering PTSD for survivors of violence.
And yet, pictures convey reality in a way that words cannot. One of these days, the parents of children murdered in a school shooting may make the same decision Mamie Till did in 1955.
America’s era of mass shootings kicked off on August 1, 1966 when Charles Whitman murdered his mother and then climbed to the top of the clock tower at the University of Texas and begin shooting.
The vast majority of our mass killings, however, began during the Reagan/Bush administrations following the 1984 San Ysidro, California McDonald’s massacre, the Edmond, Oklahoma Post Office shooting of 1986, and the Luby’s Cafeteria massacre in Killeen, Texas in 1991.
We’ve become familiar with the names of the places, and sometimes the dates, but the horror and pain of the torn and exploded bodies has escaped us.
It’s time for America to confront the reality of gun violence. And all my years working in the advertising business tell me that a graphic portrayal of the consequences of their products is the greatest fear of America’s weapons manufacturers and the NRA.
We did it with tobacco and drunk driving back in the day, showing pictures of people missing half their jaw or mangled and bloody car wreckage, and it worked.
And now there’s a student-led movement asking states to put a check-box on driver’s licenses with the line:
“In the event that I die from gun violence please publicize the photo of my death. #MyLastShot.” This isn’t, however, something that should just be tossed off, or thrown up on a webpage.
Leadership from multiple venues in American journalism — print, television, web-based publications — should get together and decide what photos to release, how to release them, and under what circumstances it could be done to provide maximum impact and minimum trauma.
But Americans must understand what’s really going on.
A decade ago, President Obama put then-VP Joe Biden in charge of his gun task force, and Joe Biden saw the pictures from school shootings back then.
Here’s how The New York Times quoted then-Vice President Biden:
“‘Jill and I are devastated. The feeling — I just can’t imagine how the families are feeling,’ he said, at times struggling to find the right words.”
Obama himself, after seeing the photos, broke into tears on national television.
And we appear to be tiptoeing up to the edge of doing exactly this. Yesterday’s Washington Post featured an article about what happens when people are shot by assault weapons and included this commentary:
“A Texas Ranger speaks of bullets that ‘disintegrated’ a toddler’s skull. “This explains the lead poisoning that plagues survivors of the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Tex.; David Colbath, 61, can scarcely stand or use his hands without pain, and 25-year-old Morgan Workman probably can’t have a baby. It explains the evisceration of small bodies such as that of Noah Pozner, 6, murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, and Peter Wang, 15, killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. The Post examined the way bullets broke inside of them — obliterating Noah’s jaw and Peter’s skull, filling their chests with blood and leaving behind gaping exit wounds.”
But we need to go the next step and show the actual pictures for this truth about the horror of gun violence to become widely known. Doing this will take leadership.
And, of course, there must be a Mamie Bradley: a parent, spouse or other relation willing to allow the photos of their loved one to be used in this way.
In 1996 there was a horrific slaughter in Tasmania, Australia, by a shooter using an AR15-style weapon, culminating a series of mass shootings that had plagued that nation for over a decade.
While the Australian media generally didn’t publish the photos, they were widely circulated.
As a result the Australian public was so repulsed that within a year semi-automatic weapons in civilian hands were outlawed altogether, strict gun control measures were put into place, and a gun-buyback program went into effect that voluntarily took over 700,000 weapons out of circulation.
And that was with John Howard as Prime Minister — a conservative who was as hard-right as Ronald Reagan!
In the first years after the laws took place, firearms-related deaths in Australia fell by well over 40%, with suicides dropping by 77%. There have only been two mass killings in the 27 years since then.
The year 1996 was Australia’s Emmett Till moment.
America needs ours.

2023.03.30 06:18 PD711 What is your perspective on Boarding Schools?
I'm an American and I am curious. We have private schools in the US but boarding schools aren't really a thing. A lot of fiction I've read surrounding boarding schools paints them in a pretty negative light.
So I've been watching this documentary:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6vfjWBT45o And my impression is that it seems so... unnecessary. I would be worried sick about potential abuses of the children. The separation issues seem pretty traumatic. At 21:00 there is a little girl who has gone home for the weekend is laying with her mother on the couch sucking her thumb. She's 8.
Also, are all of these parents upper class? One family is a military family (which I can kind of understand: being dragged all around the world because your father is in the armed forces can be really isolating, so boarding might be preferable to give the child some normalcy) but I wonder if the documentary is trying to downplay the affluence of the parents and make them seem more middle-class.

2023.03.30 06:05 AlberSaber Help Hypatia See Her Father Again After 4 Years of separation
Hypatia, a 10-year-old girl (stateless), has not seen her father, Alber Saber, for four years. In December 2019, Alber had to return to Egypt to take care of his sick mother, and due to COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, he couldn't return to Switzerland to care for Hypatia after his permit expired in May 2020.
In January 2021, Hypatia was expelled from school and transferred to a shelter as her mother was unable to take care of her. Despite her father's request in February 2021, after two years, migration refused to renew his permit, leaving the family with no choice but to hire a lawyer to challenge their decision in court before April 16, 2023. Unfortunately, the lawyer's fees are high, and Alber Saber is unable to afford them. It may even go to multiple courts, including the federal court and the European Human Rights Court. We need all the help we can get to be together again.
Hypatia's father is a human rights activist and blogger who has faced many problems with the Egyptian government. He has been working tirelessly to fight for human rights and freedom of expression, putting him at risk of being arrested by the Egyptian government or killed by extremists in Egypt. Therefore, it is crucial to reunite this family as soon as possible.
#Why Do They Need Our Help?
The family needs our help to raise funds for the lawyer's fees and associated costs to challenge the migration's decision in court. Hypatia's father has dedicated his life to fighting for human rights and freedom of expression, and he deserves to be reunited with his daughter.
#How Can We Help?
We can help by donating to the fund set up to pay for the lawyer's fees and associated costs or signing the petition to support their cause and raise awareness of their situation. Additionally, if you know of lawyers, NGOs, or activists who can volunteer their services for this case, please reach out to the family. We are reaching out to the community for help. Alber has helped many people, and we believe in the power of society to come together to help them be reunited. Every (help-sign-share-minute-dollar) counts, and we are grateful for any thing you can do. Together we can make a difference.
#Conclusion
Every child deserves to be with their family, and we must help reunite this family by supporting their cause. Hypatia needs her father, and we can make a difference by donating to the fund or signing the petition to support their cause. Let's help them fight for human rights and family reunification.
We ask the Swiss authorities to allow Hypatia to see her father as soon as possible.

Medium involvement but high impact. 7. Summer Internship on healthcare (projects, presentations, classes on all sectors of healthcare). High involvement but only 6 weeks.
Awards/Honors 1. ROTC Scholarship 2. Girls state! 3. AP Scholar w/ Distinction 4. National Hispanic & African-American Recognition Programs 5. National Honor Society (??)
Letters of Recommendation *
Guidance Counselor (10/10): He let me read it and also made it really personal. I think his letter resembled my character really well.
- Gov Teacher (9/10): I didn’t get to read this rec but he is known for writing good (and slightly embellished) letter of recs.
- Crim Justice Teacher (6/10): He let me read it and I felt like the essay is generic. It doesn’t add anything to my application but it definitely doesn’t paint me in a negative light either.
Interviews - Barnard: Interviewed for CSTEP. I would say the interview was an 8/10; I easily connected with my interviewer but there were some questions I could’ve answered better.
- University of Rochester: Alumni Interview; super great! Loved my interviewer a ton :)
Essays Common App I started brainstorming my essay March of my junior year (perfect time to start them, IMO). Finalized my essay for ED1; after my rejection, I edited the essay (not heavily) and I think it improved the quality so much.
My essay was about my curly hair and my journey of its self acceptance. Throughout the essay, I continuously referenced barbie dolls and the way society compared me to one. I continued this idea throughout the entire essay and I think it worked really well. Everyone thinks I’m a good writer so I had a lot of fun writing this essay!
Supplementals For all of my Why Us essays, I discussed my passion for medicine, how my chosen major addresses this, and why the school was a good fit for my physician career. I had barely any medicine ECs so I felt it was extremely important to express why I want to pursue medicine.
Decisions Acceptances: * Barnard College (Committed!) * Northwestern University (still shocked) * University of Southern California (insane) * University of Rochester * Villanova University * Case Western Reserve University * Fordham University (EA) * Lehigh University * SUNY Binghamton University * SUNY Stony Brook (EA) * SUNY University at Buffalo (EA)
Waitlists: * Boston College * Boston University * Northeastern University (EA deferred) * UNC Chapel Hill
Rejections: * NYU (ED1)
Waiting on * Duke (IDEK why I applied, just wanna see the result for funsies💀).
Additional Information: In my additional info, I thoroughly clarified my home life. As a primary caretaker for my siblings, I couldn’t partake in as many ECs as I would’ve liked. Please make sure you’re specific here! This was roughly 1/3 of my additional information section.
I also talked about my extremely long commute to school and how this hinders my EC involvement.
The last of additional information was targeted towards explaining my ECs. For me, it’s really quality over quantity and I wanted to make sure the AOs knew this.
Advice 1. ED rejection is NOT everything. My NYU rejection absolutely crushed me but I’ve found my new dream school (Barnard!)
- Do not ED if you think you have potential to improve. My ED application lacked a major award (ROTC Scholarship), and I had a few mistakes in my EC section and essay. I would say my strongest application was my Barnard one and it’s the one that got me the farthest.
- Don’t feel discouraged if you lack “stellar” ecs. Clearly, my ECs weren’t all that nor were they plentiful. However, in my common app, I worded these ECs extremely well and I made sure telaborate on major projects I was working on in my Additional Information section. Also, don’t compare yourself with applications you see on youtube, tiktok, ApplyingToCollege, or even this sub. I can’t tell you how agonized I was thinking I would never get into one of my top choices, yet I got into multiple reputable institutions.
- If youre a freshman-junior with any questions or would like to read my supplements (or even my common app essay), LMK. I’ve made a master document with all my essays (minus additional information as it is personal) and I would love to shshare it with any junior who needs it.

2023.03.30 05:35 taste-mp3 My concert experience as a Fat Stay
Content warnings: fatphobia, eating disorders
A few months ago, I posted seeking concert experiences from fat Stays specifically, and though I received some very lovely and reassuring general comments, I did not hear from any fat Stays who had actually been to a concert, so I wanted to share my experience.
Why I am sharing Though this post is directed at fat Stays on this subreddit, I wanted to make it more accessible to everyone by sharing why fat Stays like me may worry about going to concerts/participating in fandom. Fatness is extremely stigmatised and disregarded despite being a form of structural discrimination, and this is a large reason why I and others like me do not like discussing our experiences. I hope by sharing this non fat Stays can understand what Stays in larger bodies may be experiencing.
Being in a larger body is something that affects every aspect of your life. It restricted my ability to find cute clothes for the show, it makes me anxious to be around large crowds, and I have received fatphobic insults in fandom before. Had I flown to the show, I would have worried about taking up too much space on the plane, since I have been insulted for that before. We cannot close our eyes and will away our fatness. Our arms may touch other people when we are sitting in concert seats.
People perceive us more negatively than our thin peers just by looking at us. A lot of us carry trauma related to fatphobic bullying.
Because of all of these factors and more, just existing publicly as a fat person can be mentally exhausting. I was anxious for weeks leading up to my show and at points considered not going. These are usually not considerations for other people when deciding whether or not to do something fun. (Though those with anxiety or neurodivergence may understand some of these feelings!)
My experience Stays I am so happy to say that my concert was one of the most affirming and body positive spaces I have ever been in, from the pre-show events in the area to the show itself.
There were Stays of a large variety of body sizes and shapes, wearing all manner of outfits and accessories. I wore short shorts and a crop top as part of a themed set with my best friend, and did not feel that I received any negative attention for it (which is something I am very sensitive to.)
Stays were very complimentary of each other's outfits regardless of body sizes and so many generous people helped take photos and hold things for strangers. One of my new favourite photos of myself ever was taken by a Stay at my show. (Regardless of body size, I'm sure we can all relate to not being able to find cute photos of ourselves!)
Stays of all body types appeared on the camera during the audience interaction segments and were praised and cheered on by everyone.
I was able to bond with several strangers over our shared love of the Kids, calling out to each other when we spotted keychains or t-shirts or Nachimbongs.
The Venue I am on the lower side of plus size (16-18, the approximate size of the average American woman, the more you know!) so I can only speak as someone who is that size and this will vary by venue, but I did not have any issues with seating or moving during the show, and from my view (I had a nosebleed seat) it looked like the floor seats had adequate spacing.
I was also pleasantly surprised that the merch sizes went up to 2X, since, though obviously this is still a very limited size range and will exclude some Stays. (For added context, I struggled to find things in 2X sizes at mainstream stores in the time leading up to my show so 2X is a great step.)
The Kids Since this may be a concern not just for fat Stays but Stays struggling with eating disorders, I do want to note that the Kids did not talk about their bodies at any point during the show. The closest thing to it would be Changbin's ending ment, where he made a joke about being hungry all the time (for various foods and Stays' love).
Chan made a comment about anyone being allowed to be a Stay, which was affirming both as a disabled, fat Stay and a member of the LGBT community.
A personal message to anyone struggling as a fat Stay If you feel too hurt to dip a toe into IRL fandom, I understand. It took a long time for me to reconcile my fatness and love of kpop, and I still get angry about the fatphobia sometimes.
But I want to reassure you that going to a SKZ show is a lovely experience, and one you deserve to have. Fatness does not make you a lesser Stay. If anything, it helps you understand SKZ's message better: that you do not have to listen to anyone who makes you feel like you do not deserve to be here. This world belongs to you.
You are a part of Generation Stay no matter your size or shape or experiences and no one can take that away from you. If you ever need to talk to someone who gets it, don't ever hesitate to reach out. There are so many good Stays out there and they will come through.

2023.03.30 05:28 AlberSaber Help Hypatia See Her Father Again After 4 Years of separation
