2023.05.28 14:07 Lunaticky_Bramborak Starting analog horror series-premise help? Does this sound too much cliché?

First post was ignored so ima try it again 😅 Since I love this genre and consumed quite a lot of it already, I feel like I should finally try to produce something to share. I plan to start two projects in summer, right now I started production of one of them. ( If it fails, I can still use these ideas as a part of wordbuilding for my ussual fantasy word xd)
Basic premise: Series of various media about same fenomenom- weird shit in dreams.
I started working on first video, an brief education program about new phenomena. Basically ,,See this weird entity? It's safe, don't be afraid" with some hints for future problems. It might lean to comedical horror teritory with time, but I will be fine with that.
I dunno how much are dreams overused in this genre. I will sprinkle some true info to it too, since I love reading everything around dreams and lucidity. Entities will be mostly nonhuman, mechanical or ,,stone beasts", since it's from dreams, there will be only sketches of them and openly manimulated photos.

2023.05.28 14:05 DarkLordOnyx The great transmission service/flush debate/myth (from an ASE master certified transmission rebuilder)

I'm an ASE master certified transmission rebuilder of the last 8 years. I've seen the ins and outs of MANY types of transmissions, and have seen MANY types of causes of failure. I just want to make a few things clear to educate people. Because the lack of knowledge skews the mindset when it comes to transmission flushes/services, and possibly causing problems afterwards.
Term knowledge and understanding is key here. (Flush...) We DO NOT "FLUSH" transmissions. EVER!!! IN ANY CASE, WHATSOEVER! That term can be used for "flushing" your cooling system. The machine at shops that pulsate the coolant to help unclog/unblock and loosen sediments. We will; however, "flush" your "transmission cooler" not a part of the transmission itself. It's just a small radiator in front of your vehicle for transmission fluid cooling, and it's needs cleaned when replacing/rebuilding a transmission. MOST REAL transmission builders WILL NEVER use any kind of extra chemical in your transmission ("flush" "fix in a bottle" "stop leak" etc). Some might use a modifying agent in some cases, typically only recommended by your transmission tech. But anyone reputable WILL NEVER use any kind of chemical in a bottle.
(For the remainder of this post, any "shop" as I call it, I mean a "transmission specialty shop" don't let Pepboys, Midas or any other "joe blow shop" tell you about your transmission. Independent transmission shops are great! Even conglomerates like AAMCO know more than "joe blow fix ya up." Those guys are good for general drivability/brake/suspension repairs. Same goes for engines... Find an engine specific shop when having engine problems.)
Onto services... Some shops will not service transmissions for the myth's liability reasons. Some will "service" transmissions by "EXCHANGING" the fluid and installing a new filter. THAT'S IT! Fluid change, NOT A FLUSH. It's just exchanging the fluid/filter (old and used to new). NO CHEMICALS! NO PULSATING! NO PRESSURES! Anyone who says "flush and transmission" in the same sentence does not know what they're talking about. TALK TO YOUR TRANSMISSION EXPERT! Find one, do your research, go in and ask questions, get to know them a little, see if they'll drive your vehicle and "service your transmission." Ask them if there is anything starting to go wrong with yours? We're not perfect, but we do our best for you. Ask questions about common problems with your transmission. Generally... DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSE. I'm not selling you anything other than the TRUTH here. Find an expert you feel comfortable with and know they're not bullshxttxng you. Some will BS you. Do your research.
Short answer to the "service" debate/myth? IT IS POSSIBLE to experience problems after a "transmission service". I have seen it. It is possible, and even us as experts may not be able to detect it. I've only seen it a very few times in the last 8 years, maybe 5 out of a thousand. So, the slight chance is ALWAYS there.
More often than not, people "do their own service" and don't use the right fluid, don't properly check fluid levels, ADD CHEMICALS, and then they start experiencing problems with their transmission. SO DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! AT ALL!
I've heard many try to blame it on a fluid change/service. HOWEVER, the real cause of failure was lifetime wear, driver habits, and factory weak points that cause issues slowly over time. 80%-90% of the time, the customer has issues with their transmission, decides to "service" the transmission, and experiences MORE problems. The issues were ALREADY there and you were experiencing them when you decided to "see if a service would fix it". Transmission fluid is a good cleaner. It has detergents in it, and now it's cleaned built up grime and cause clearances to open up, causing the problem in GREATER degree now.
Their are cases where an unknown or undetected problem arise after "servicing" a transmission. NOT WIDELY COMMON, but can happen.
Bottom line... MOST transmission problems are OUT OF YOUR CONTROL, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. Most failures are due to design or usage flaws that need to be corrected. I cannot tell you if you should or shouldn't "service" your transmission, unless I drive it, put my scanner on it, and look at some data, and I know what your transmission is or what the specific case is. EACH CASE IS DIFFERENT. His fix won't cure your problem. Her fix won't cure his problem. All these transmissions have completely different sets of problems and fixes. Talk to YOUR transmission expert, and don't drive it like you stole it all the time. "joe blow fix ya up" and "carl.the.cucumber.sized.superman" posting here on reddit probably DON'T have a FULL UNDERSTANDING of TRANSMISSIONS, like we do.
I will answer common questions you have, maybe steer you in the right direction. I try my best to respond to everyone. But I cannot help you fix your car over the internet, and I'm not selling anything, or do any in-person inspections. Thank you for your time and the read. Just trying to be honest in this clutter of crap. Good day!

The Benefits of Using a Moving Service

Moving to a new home can be an exciting but stressful time. One way to alleviate some of the stress is by using a moving service. Here are some benefits of using a moving service:
  1. Convenience: A moving service can handle all aspects of your move, from packing and loading your belongings to transporting them to your new home. This saves you time and energy that you can use to focus on other aspects of your move, such as finding a new school or job.
  2. Expertise: Professional movers are experienced in handling delicate and valuable items, such as antiques, artwork, and electronics. They have the right equipment and techniques to ensure that your belongings are packed and transported safely.
  3. Insurance: Reputable moving services offer insurance for your belongings during the move. This provides added protection and peace of mind in case anything is damaged or lost during the move.
  4. Cost-effective: Although hiring a moving service may seem expensive at first glance, it can actually be cost-effective in the long run. A moving service can help you avoid the costs of renting a truck, buying packing materials, and hiring labor to help you move.
  5. Safety: Moving heavy and bulky items can be dangerous if you don’t have the right equipment and training. Professional movers know how to safely lift and move heavy items, reducing the risk of injury.
  6. Flexibility: Moving services offer a range of services, from full-service packing and moving to labor-only services. This allows you to choose the level of assistance that best fits your needs and budget.
Moving Truck Driver is a great option for those who need to transport their belongings in a U-Haul or Penske truck. They specialize in driving these trucks and can make the moving process smoother and less stressful.

2023.05.28 14:04 CeruleanSeaIce Should I get a Priority Continuum Onyx?

I commute around Denver, Colorado mostly on paths and roads with potholes and a little bit of grass/dirt. Short 1-3 miles each way to work and shopping, and longer rides downtown 5-10 miles each way about once a week. Routes are mostly flat, but there are a few hills. I often ride at nighttime. Right now I have a cheap 7-speed Schwinn from Target. The problems with it are the rim brakes constantly need adjusting, the seat post keeps slipping down, and I’d like to go faster. Not looking for a racing road bike though, more of an all-weather workhorse. I’m 5’6” and around 140 pounds.
I’d like a bike with disc brakes and as low maintenance as possible. I don’t know that much about bikes, but I am slowly becoming more handy since I started cycling about 7 months ago. Theft is a concern and I don’t want to spend more than about $1500. The swept back bars on my current bike are uncomfortable on my wrists. Flat bars seem like they’d be better. The 7-speed Shimano Altus on my bike is usually sufficient, but I’d appreciate a wider range of gears. Also, it sometimes gets stuck between gears. I prefer simplicity and am intimidated by bikes with front derailleurs because they seem troublesome.
I’ve had my eye on the Continuum for months, but I’m hesitant to make a major purchase without getting to try it out first. I’ve also heard some people had issues with the wheels not being true or breaking spokes, and some thought the bike had too much resistance when pedaling. What do you all think? I will consider alternatives if you have suggestions. Secondhand is okay too. Thanks in advance.

2023.05.28 14:03 siktophun1 How to live life and not to miss it?

I'm writing this during one of those rare moments of clarity that I'm experiencing tonight. Sometimes, I can go weeks or months without feeling the way I do right now. I apologize for the repetitions. I edited the text several times, as I wanted to accurately capture all the sensations I experience when I am aware.

During these moments, I have a clear sense of what I want from my life and the direction I want to pursue. I can make concrete plans and genuinely believe that I can actively accomplish them, setting smaller goals along the way. I can also recognize the value of my relationships and feel grateful for what I have. I can feel real world and my real self. I am able to genuinely experience and express my emotions without suppressing myself and truly experience life. I feel like it's another person which comes out without any psychological blocks and clamps, without tension and anxiety, without constant thinking about something and trying to keep everything under control.

I feel incredibly relaxed and utterly accepting of the current situation. I am capable of engaging in meaningful communication with others, understand them, listen to them, feel and hear what they say. I'm able to really analyze external data from the real world and deriving genuine enjoyment from the usual activities I partake in. It's as though all my senses and emotions were temporarily disabled. Like my true self was absent. It's as if I've awakened from an incredibly long dream, as if I hadn't truly been living before. It's almost like someone else was merely on autopilot, just gathering data, similar to what you see in the movie 'Click'. I become utterly frustrated and depressed during these instances when I realize that I've skipped and slept through chunks of my life, as if a robotic entity was in control instead of me. These episodes of clarity usually occur during the evening(In rare cases, this state can last throughout the entire day, starting from the morning), but only a few times a month at best.

In these moments, I consciously reassure myself that I'll make every effort to research how to maintain this state of mind. However, every time, I find myself slipping back into the abyss the very next day. I also experience brief awakenings throughout the day, lasting only for a short period (about several seconds or minutes) when my brain suddenly stops thinking and trying to keep everything under control. I promise myself to hold my attention and feel during these moments but every time my mind goes off. It's like an impossible effort to sustain this state of clarity. And every time I become more frustrated that I have disappeared. And these frustrations amplifies to the point when I just at the boiling point. Only when my mind and body(can't relax it too) can't hold constant pressure anymore I feel squeezed out then my mind gives up and this takes me to state of clarity and acceptance of me and a world. And then it accumulates the tension until the next moment when it can no longer hold to take a relief. It feels that I can't relax and live until I finish something but my mind always is seeking for things to finish, an endless cycle.

On most days, I feel like I'm just going through the motions, overwhelmed by the number of things I need to do. It's hard to focus on one task for too long because I worry I won't have enough time for everything else. I struggle to see the long-term benefits of short-term tasks, like exercising, working towards my educational goals, communicating, playing, eating or doing things for my loved ones. Sometimes, I question my relationships, the purpose of my life, and why I bother putting effort into anything. As a result, I often go through the day doing the bare minimum and I tend to make decisions or do things because I should.

I also experience random bouts of anxiety when I've been putting off tasks like cleaning the house or other chores that I've put off too long. I constantly feel a sense of tension and anxiety, fearing that I will forget something simple things like my name, my age, people that I should remember, a certain word or a date, skincare, eating, taking vitamins, or even calling my mother. It feels, that I need to keep everything under control and think about these thing non-stop in a loop not to forget wandering in my head. And I experience a deep disconnection from the real world. It's so bad that i can go on for months in a new apartment, and then, during moments of clarity, I suddenly realize, "Wow, where am I? Who am I? Who are these people around me? Is she my mother? What am I actually doing, and where have I been all this time?". I feel like I live 1-2 days in a month, others are just a huuge gap in consciousness and like not from my life.

Does anyone else experience something similar? It seems to me that this is partially similar to ADHD and the lack of stimulation that turns the brain off or some kind of anxiety disorder. I recently visited two psychotherapists, but they didn't see any issues or deviations in this regard. I have already read a lot of literature on mindfulness and tried meditation, deleting social media, diary, healthy diet, working out, sleep is decent 7-8 hours but so far, it hasn't been very effective just mild improvements. Lately, I don't experience any anxiety at all; rather, I feel disconnected from the world. Also I tried anxiety relief meds such as phenibut or xanax but not on a regular basis. So, it seems that it's not solely about anxiety in my case. I don't want to go through life without truly living it. I don't want to be trapped in a constant state of tension and anxiety, repetitive thinking and isolated from the world and reality. And then waking up in unfamiliar places in an unfamiliar body, surrounded by unfamiliar people and realizing that I haven't truly lived all this time. I want to experience emotions, both the good and the bad. I want to look and truly see, listen and genuinely hear. When I'm in moment of clarity I can't describe how much I enjoy the fact that I am truly living, feeling and experiencing life rather than merely existing.
I'm 24 and experience this from childhood or Elementary School I guess. And it seems that it gets worse with time. How can I move out from this loop and experience clarity at least more often? I'm open to any recommendations, advice, meds. Anything that can help not to skip my life.

2023.05.28 14:02 Ok_Calligrapher9400 Anyone else not have luck with any situational meds?

Our dog (1.5-year-old Mini Aussie mix) has been seeing a vet behaviorist since January. They started her on sertraline (Zoloft) pretty immediately, and we’ve luckily seen a lot of success with that med.
However, the vet behaviorist also wants our pup to have a medication we can use on top of the sertraline in periods of increased stress.
We originally tried gabapentin, clonidine, and trazodone (not at the same time). They all made her anxiety a bit worse, especially as the medication was leaving her body.
We just tried alprazolam (Xanax) for her and saw pretty much the same thing.
Has anyone else had the same experience with their dog not responding to any of the short-acting meds? Did you give up, or did you eventually find one that works?
We hate to keep putting our girl through this, as the trials of these meds can sometimes throw her off for days.
Thanks for sharing any experiences/advice you have!

2023.05.28 14:02 adolfgandhi007 Exploring the Complexities: Dating/Marrying Someone with Differing Political Views - A Delicate Balancing Act [A very serious discussion held by serious independent 69 body count and plus going females of twoxindia]

In the vast realm of relationships, where love and politics intertwine, lies an intriguing question that continues to stir debates within the diverse feminist strong independent community of TwoXIndia. Recently, a thought-provoking discussion (this happens once in a blue moon) emerged on the subreddit, with participants delving into the potential challenges faced when considering a partner with different political views. As we ventured into this landscape of contrasting ideologies, we discovered a tapestry of perspectives, ranging from the conventional to the unconventional, and everything in between.
Amidst the chorus of popular sentiment which I'll talk about larer, a solitary voice emerged, challenging the status quo that the feminaz-...I mean the feminists have set on that sub. One woman, whom I'll preferr to remain anonymous(being one of few who actually doesn't seem to understand that in her bouts of innocence someone had led her to a Mental Asylum where broken and traumised girls, after taking wrong decisions propagate the same bullshit to other girls who may be feminine and conservative and not a cumdumpster like them out of their own choice), bravely shared her perspective: 'I believe that love should transcend political boundaries. It's an opportunity for growth, a chance to learn from each other's differing viewpoints.' While this beautiful notion invited intrigue from my psyche, it raised It's It's laughable how these women believe they can salvage a relationship with someone so intellectually inferior. Perhaps it's time for them to wake up and realize that love alone cannot bridge the gap between reason and ignorance a relationship with someone so intellectually inferior. Perhaps it's time for them to wake up and realize that love alone cannot bridge the gap between reason and ignorance can truly stand the test of time while being packed in suitcases and fridges willingly despite evidences telling not to do it, because...#letsspreadpiss🕊
After reading that beautiful comment every other served as a stark departure from what I had thought would be prevailing sentiment, because again they seriously had a decent discussion with atleast an iota of common sense after time immemorial. One user, whom I shall like to keep anonymous(honeslty we still have many simps among us boys who'd still use this post to score brownie points with people like her...but dude forget the streets she's the kind of person whod even taint a shitting ground), boldly proclaimed that political differences were an insurmountable barrier, asserting, 'Why would I waste my time with someone who doesn't share my values? It's like inviting chaos and conflict into my life.' This assertion of unwavering loyalty to personal beliefs, devoid of any consideration for compromise or growth, left many readers questioning the inflexibility of such a stance. Almost felt like...I was watching the speech of a failed painter from Austria who started a cleaning business later.
Another woman, let's call her Maya (because thats what I think she was birthed out of, no human parents could give birth to a child who acts autistic willingly, suffers from schizophrenia born out of her narcissism and should honeslty become the single independent feminist lady with kitty kids to give her life a meaning, which is nothing short of a nymphomania 101), asserted that differing political views were indicative of a fundamental character flaw. She argued, 'How can I trust someone who aligns with ideologies that directly contradict my core values? It's a recipe for heartbreak and disappointment.' While her viewpoint emanates from a place of self-preservation (according to intellectual single moms of that sub), some readers found her judgment to be overly rigid, but they were men so it was mandatory for mods to shut the door on the potential for constructive dialogue or understanding (nothing new).
As the conversation unfolded, there were instances where women expressed a dismissive attitude towards partners with contrasting political views. One individual, whose identity again anonymous (because she's a shit), casually remarked, 'Why would I subject myself to the torment of constantly disagreeing with someone who just doesn't get it? Life's too short for that.' This unyielding rejection of differing perspectives left a bitter taste in the mouths of those seeking the possibility of unity amidst diversity, who were again men, and I think after that simply all men were kicked out so that talk about equal representation in politics could be carried out in whole of it's glory.
It wasn't as if rational comments weren't being said, but it was not fun to find meaningful comments in the minuses, and then finding them bombarded with plethora of vitriol that these girls who are bound to end up on streets have for the ones who are liberal but not savage and barbaric enough to proclaim their independence and strength by riding whatever d!ck that they find hot .
It's laughable how these women believe they can salvage a relationship with someone so intellectually inferior. Perhaps it's time for them to wake up and realize that love alone cannot bridge the gap between reason and ignorance
These women who choose to associate with partners of differing political views are willingly subjecting themselves to emotional turmoil. It's like willingly walking into a minefield of discord and tension
These women may think they are advocating for open-mindedness and acceptance, but they are inadvertently contributing to the erosion of their own values. By compromising on such a fundamental aspect of their lives, they are sacrificing the very essence of what they claim to stand for
And others were much more salty. So salty that to get rid of their anger and prove their version of feminine strength, they'll had to raise their body count by 30 or 40 plus. Maybe, just maybe, that'll make them cool down for 5 minutes when they have another rendezvous with people from opposing views.
As I bid by goodbye to the exploration of that mental Asylum chat group masquerading as a subbreddit, I was left with questions about complexities surrounding dating and marrying someone with differing political views as a male, what if the virus created by them has left that echo chamber and ignited passionate debates and sparks of contention within the actual diverse community Indian females, a good chunk of whom aren't cumdumpsters masquerading as females. Would voices of deplorable and dimwitted dissent clash with those actually seeking unity i.e us men, and would the rift widen as the whorish ideologies begun to spread by those low IQ zombies of that sub. Amidst the cacophony of contrasting perspectives, it becomes evident that no easy resolution exists other than becoming rich and marrying a young one while she still has her purity intact. The issue would always remain fraught with emotion, leaving behind a lingering unease and a nagging sense of division because of one side's ability to let go of the victim card now that things have really been equalized and remove the filter of shit that's blinding them to see the cries we cry, the fear we posses, the trauma we recieve because if them as they always have a justification and army of simp boys to massage their ego. Only time will tell if love can truly transcend the boundaries of politics while such a subreddit exists and the chasm between ideologies will continue to widen, casting a shadow over the pursuit of meaningful connections.

RDR2 keeps crashing on pc
I am around 10 hours into my first ever playtrough of the game and the first chapter went smooth but after i got to valentine the game started crashing like crazy. First it was around every 2 hours. Then after a day with that i had one session the next day where i played for 5 hours with no crashes. But today i cant even play for more than 10-15 minutes without the game crashing on me (with no crash message). the problem doesnt seem to be linked to anything spesific ingame it just happens randomly, so now i am stuck in a save game loop where i go and kill my bounty outside of saint denise and after i loot and pick him up i start riding with him back to the city only for the game to crash on me somewhere between the shootout spot and saint denise.
The game so far has been increadible so i badly want to fix the problem so i can finally enjoy it. Would greatly appriciate the help.
I have been testing out the game on different settings with the same results. I tried both vulcan and directx 12. i have tried everything from low to high settings.
Other things i have tried so far without any luck;
Tried the game on 2 different screens; 1 1080p 144hz monitor and 1 4k 120hz hdr tv (no difference)
Tried vertifying the files
deleting dx cash (saw it of another post)
tried msi oc scan
Tried running as administrator
tried running a clean boot with no background apps (this one did kinda work. the game ran around 4 hours, but it tottally disabled my nvidia controll pannel so my 1080p monitor got stuck on 60hz)
tried giving rdr2 high priority in task manager
I have updated to the newest nvidia drivers and all of the windows updates are done.
Anyone got any cheeky tricks that could help a poor fella out?

Oh and btw i have some screenshots from Problem Details and Event Wiever that could maby help someone smart figure out the problem.

2023.05.28 14:01 cfsandme I'm not feeling well right now and need to vent. I'm sorry (potential TW abusive parent)

hi all,
long story short: dealing with what potentially could be me/cfs (or long covid) since around Septembe October last year after a massive infection.
In a "best case" scenario the symptoms I currently have just come from having been floxed by the antibiotics, in a worse case scenario I either caught Long Covid or ME/CFS on top of it.
Docs are not necessarily helpful, but that isn't even the topic of this thread.
Basically TLDR because I not have the energy to go into full detail
Abusive mother (I mostly refused to even talk to until my dad died in March) calls and throws a massive temper tantrum because of my decsion to -yet again- not have gotten better since our last phone call last weekend....and I made the massive mistake to not have called her yesterday (when she last weekend told me to phone on Saturday or Monday)...so she called me today to voice her concerns and make me aware of all my mistakes.... whole phonecall lasted around 10 minutes.
9.5 minutes of that was mostly my mother screaming at me angrily how my decision to get sick in the first place, my decsion to -yet again- not have gotten any better since last phonecall, and the next decision to just have contacted docs that refuse to believe in anything else other than depression would be bad, along with my bad decision to not believe those docs and especially her that I just have "depression" or "psychosomatic" (when 6 out of 7 so far did not even run any tests because my symptoms "would not make any sense" and hence only can be "psychosomatic" to begin with...Like, I could have started taking antidepressants 10 months ago already and would be perfectly healthy now. What an idiot I am for not believing her. She has seen a lot of documentaries about people having depression and they all would have the same symptoms like me. Which kind of confused me, since I never really told her my symptoms in detail to begin with, but as usually, it's not needed anyways, since she always knows everything about everything.
.. and basically how can I dare to make such stupid decisions and ruin her day doing so, because she has to worry so much because of me that it's making her sick... and in the end she just kept crying in tears over how much she loves me, how my father (that died in march) would be to blame that I make such stupid decisions (because he never critizised me like she always is doing it, and of course, she only is doing all those absolutel absurd criticisims because she "loves me so much"... )
...and most importantly, she always is right and everyone else always is wrong and that I pretty much am an arsehole for putting her into a position that she "constantly" has to "worry" about me and my health, how I had so much potential (I've been mostly unemployed for years already for other reason, but as usually, she loves to bend reality to fit her claims) and would have thrown it all away with my "stupid decisions", how I'm wrong to have a "life plan" of just lying in bed all day and living off welfare"...and yeah, the worst apparently is that I apprently ruin her health doing so.
Like, she just was screaming at me stuff like "WHY DO YOU WANT TO LIVE LIKE THIS?", "WHY IS YOUR LIFE PLAN TO LIE IN BED ALL DAY?!", "HOW CAN YOU EVEN LIVE LIKE THAT?"...and then just complaining how much she has to suffer because of it, how my actions would ruin her health etc and that I basically am an egoistic asshole for putting her into that situation.
It was kind of funny at times even and easy to ignore her tantrums when I had the energy to just block off her stupid claims and basically "fantasies" or however you can call those things even....like when she acted like some kind of "dog expert" (while never having owned a dog) a few years ago and tried to convince me that I do walk my dog "too much" (30kg Lab-Pit mix, high energy), how 5min per day would be enough...and when he then had "kennel cough" one time she instantly was like "SEE! I TOLD YOU YOU WALK HIM TO MUCH! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT HE IS SICK NOW". Like yeah, anyways.
Like, I do realize that she most likely has some MASSIVE mental health issues (which she always refused to even adress/ acknowledge, because no matter what happened in her life it was always everyone else to blame) and while I not feel responsible for her I kind of have sympathy for her situation though... and I usually try to be "diplomatic" when talking with her, but she that then uses to lash out massively...and it's basically always that she knows everything about everything all the time, she "just" wants to "help", it's impossible to argue against her, even more so when she basically admitts that she actually has ZERO clue, but then claims how she is "right" anyways, because in her heas, she "just" is...by default, all the fucking time.......and I not have the energy for this kind of crap anymore.

2023.05.28 14:01 miarrial Sudan: Army chief blames UN envoy for war and calls for his dismissal

Link in French – Soudan : Le chef de l’armée fait porter la responsabilité de la guerre sur l’émissaire de l’ONU et réclame son limogeage

ACCUSATIONS UN Secretary General and Washington reaffirm support for Volker Perthes.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, head of the Sudanese army, in Khartoum on December 5, 2022
In Sudan, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane has found a scapegoat. The army chief is calling for the dismissal of UN envoy Volker Perthes, blaming him for the war that broke out six weeks ago with paramilitaries and left more than 1,800 dead, according to the NGO ACLED, and, according to the UN, more than a million displaced and 300,000 refugees.
In a letter to the UN, General Burhane accused Volker Perthes of "concealing" the explosive situation in Khartoum in his reports to the UN. Without these "lies", General Mohamed Hamdane "Daglo (paramilitary boss) would not have launched his military operations". The UN envoy to Sudan, the letter further accuses, has respected neither his duty of "impartiality" nor "national sovereignty", becoming "a party and no longer a mediator".
Guterres "shocked" by al-Burhane's request
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "shocked", expressing his "full confidence" in his envoy. The US State Department also expressed its "strong support" and "confidence" in Volker Perthes, and its "concern" at the letter sent to the UN.
On April 15, the day on which the army chief and the paramilitary leader began hostilities, they were supposed to meet for negotiations. For weeks, the international community, led by the UN, had been calling for agreement on the integration of General Daglo's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) into the army. While many observers predicted that the talks would fail, the UN envoy to Sudan proclaimed his "optimism". On the day the war broke out, he admitted that he had been "taken by surprise".
Volker Perthes, who recently left for New York, "may not be able to return to Sudan and surely knew this when he left", assures researcher Kholood Khair. For her, the weight of the Islamists in Burhane's camp continues to grow, and whether or not Volker Perthes is granted an entry visa "will be a decisive test" of their resurgence.
However, the army camp seems divided: at the same time as General Burhane was calling for Volker Perthes to be sacked, his new number two, former rebel leader Malik Agar, was discussing a way out of the crisis with the UN envoy.

2023.05.28 14:00 Joadzilla Texas House of Representatives votes to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/27/politics/ken-paxton-impeachment-texas-house/index.html
The Texas House of Representatives has voted to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton, an unprecedented move following a legislative probe that faulted the third-term Republican for a years-long pattern of corruption, including abusing his office’s powers, retaliating against whistleblowers and obstructing justice.
Under state law, Paxton is now temporarily suspended from his duties as attorney general and will await a Senate trial.
The vote was 121-23, with two members voting “present.”
“The evidence is substantial. It is alarming and unnerving,” said GOP Rep. Andrew Murr, chair of the General Investigating Committee, during his closing statement following hours of debate. The committee recommended 20 counts of impeachment against Paxton.
Democrat Rep. Harold Dutton was one of the members voting present. He said the impeachment vote had been rushed. “The process by which we’re getting this done seems to be abbreviated to the point that it just encroaches on due process,” said Dutton.
Paxton denied wrongdoing in a Friday news conference, but focused his statements against the impeachment this week on his record as a key opponent of President Joe Biden. Paxton’s office has filed dozens of lawsuits against the Biden administration.
The now-suspended attorney general called the impeachment a “politically motivated sham” in a statement just minutes after the vote.
“The ugly spectacle in the Texas House today confirmed the outrageous impeachment plot against me was never meant to be fair or just,” he said.
Paxton said he was never given a chance to present evidence refuting the findings of an investigation that he abused his office. He has cast House Speaker Dade Phelan, a Republican who presides over a chamber where his party currently holds 85 seats to Democrats’ 64, as a “liberal.” He continued his attack on Phelan saying, “Phelan’s coalition of Democrats and liberal Republicans is now in lockstep with the Biden Administration, the abortion industry, anti-gun zealots, and woke corporations.”
The Office of the Attorney General issued its own “comprehensive report” about the allegations following the impeachment vote, saying it “unequivocally refutes incorrect testimony” against Paxton. The office also released a report it commissioned from an outside law firm, although the report from Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard and Smith LLP notes it is based only on information and testimony provided by the attorney general’s office.
Republican Governor Greg Abbott can appoint a provisional replacement while Paxton is temporarily suspended. Paxton would be reinstated if he is acquitted at his Senate trial.
The impeachment vote had its origins in an investigation launched in March by the General Investigating Committee of the Texas House after Paxton had asked the legislature to approve $3.3 million in government funds to settle a lawsuit with four whistleblowers who were fired from his office.
That investigation led the committee – a five-member panel investigating corruption in state government – to approve 20 articles of impeachment Thursday, setting up the vote in the full House.
During the debate Saturday, Rep. Charlie Geren, who is a Republican, claimed Paxton had threatened fellow House members.
“I would like to point out that several members of this House, while on the floor of this House doing the state’s business, received telephone calls from General Paxton personally threatening them with political consequences in their next election,” Geren said.
Opponents of the impeachment largely declined to address the allegations against him, instead focusing on the investigation leading up to the proceedings. “I don’t think today is about whether there’s guilt or innocence. It’s about the process,” said Rep. Tony Tinderholt.
“I’m not here to defend Ken Paxton,” Rep. John T. Smithee stated on the floor. He went on to say, “What you’re being asked to do today is to impeach without evidence. It is all rumor. It is all innuendo. It is all speculation.”
Paxton’s impeachment is a stunning rebuke of a Republican official in a state where the GOP controls all levers of state government. Voters in Texas shrugged off the swirling scandals around Paxton last year, handing him a third term in November’s election. Paxton had earlier fought off multiple opponents for the GOP nomination, including Bush family scion George P. Bush, the state land commissioner, whom he easily bested in a runoff.
Paxton has long been a controversial figure who has clashed with Texas legislative leadership. A conservative who has aligned himself with former President Donald Trump, he led a lawsuit in 2020 seeking to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
He retains support within the Texas GOP. In a statement Friday, state party chairman Matt Rinaldi blasted Phelan for what he called a “sham impeachment.”
“The voters have supported General Paxton through three elections – and his popularity has only grown despite millions of dollars spent to try to defeat him. Now the Texas House is trying to overturn the election results,” Rinaldi said, adding that he was looking to the “principled leadership” of the Senate to “restore sanity and reason for our state.”
In Texas, no attorney general has ever been impeached and removed from office. The only two elected officials to lose office as a result of impeachment were Gov. James Ferguson in 1917 and District Judge O.P. Carrillo in 1975.
For Paxton to be removed from office, two-thirds of the Texas Senate’s members who are present will have to vote to convict him. His wife, Angela Paxton, is a state senator representing a Dallas-area district.
It’s not yet clear when the Senate, where Republicans have a 19-12 majority over Democrats, will conduct its trial. The state’s legislative session is scheduled to end Monday.
While only the governor can call special sessions once the legislature is out of the biennial regular session, the Texas Constitution states that impeachment is the one issue for which the state House and Senate lawmakers can bring themselves into session without the governor, according to Mark Jones, a political science professor at Rice University.
Litany of legal trouble
The impeachment proceedings are the latest in a series of legal troubles for Paxton.
CNN has previously reported he was facing an FBI investigation for abuse of office and that Justice Department prosecutors in Washington, DC, took over a corruption investigation into Paxton. He is also under indictment for securities fraud in a separate, unrelated case. Paxton has denied all charges and allegations.
The state House probe came after Paxton had sought to settle a lawsuit with four former employees of the attorney general’s office. Whistleblowers had accused him of using his authority to benefit political friend Nate Paul, a real estate investor who had donated tens of thousands of dollars to Paxton’s campaign. In the settlement, Paxton apologized but did not admit fault or accept liability. He denied wrongdoing and said in a statement he had agreed to the settlement “to put this issue to rest.”
One of the impeachment articles accuses Paxton of using employees of the attorney general’s office to write a legal opinion intended to help Paul avoid the foreclosure sale of properties owned by Paul and his businesses.
It was among a series of articles focused on Paxton’s relationship with Paul, including accusations he hired an outside attorney who issued more than 30 grand jury subpoenas while investigating a “baseless complaint” made by Paul, benefited from Paul hiring a woman with whom Paxton “was having an extramarital affair,” and provided Paul with favorable legal help in exchange for renovations on Paxton’s home.
The articles of impeachment also detail what are described as Paxton’s efforts to cause “protracted” delays in the securities fraud investigation.
And the articles say voters in November did not have a full understanding of Paxton’s legal troubles because he had intentionally obscured the details of the charges he faces.
“Paxton then concealed the facts underlying his criminal charges from voters by causing protracted delay of the trial, which deprived the electorate of its opportunity to make an informed decision when voting for attorney general,” the impeachment articles state.
A wild week
The impeachment of Paxton follows a wild week in which the attorney general accused House Speaker Phelan of presiding over the House chamber while drunk and called for the speaker’s resignation.
On Tuesday, Paxton posted on Twitter a letter to the state House ethics panel, asking for an investigation into Phelan for performing his duties in what Paxton described as “an obviously intoxicated state.”
Paxton’s call for Phelan’s resignation came after video circulated on social media last weekend of Phelan appearing to slur his words as he presided over the House chamber at the end of a late-night session. Paxton did not present any evidence beyond the video clips to support his claim Phelan was drunk.
“It is with profound disappointment that I call on Speaker Dade Phelan to resign at the end of this legislative session,” Paxton said in a statement he posted on Twitter. “Texans were dismayed to witness his performance presiding over the Texas House in a state of apparent debilitating intoxication.”
Less than an hour later, the state House General Investigating Committee revealed it had subpoenaed records from Paxton’s office as part of an investigation Phelan’s office said had started in March. The committee, whose members are appointed by Phelan, voted unanimously Thursday to recommend Paxton’s impeachment.
Phelan’s office said Paxton’s allegation was merely retaliation for the House ethics panel’s probe.
“Mr. Paxton’s statement today amounts to little more than a last-ditch effort to save face,” Phelan communications director Cait Wittman said in a statement Tuesday.
Democratic Rep. Terry Canales said the broader context of last week’s all-day session made clear Phelan “was not under the influence.”
“At that point in the night the House had been in session over 13 hours and we had been doing so for multiple days in a row. We were all exhausted,” Canales said in a statement. “Nevertheless, I had multiple interactions with the speaker throughout the day and that night and I can say unequivocally he was not under the influence.”

2023.05.28 14:00 Steelpoint Octavia will blame Stolas, not Stella, for the family breaking up

I want to present my theory that the show may establish a situation wherein Octavia is going to choose to side with Stella and place the blame on her family's divorce and subsequent disintegration squarely on Stolas (and Blitzo by extension). This will likely occur due to Stella, aided by Andrealphus, twisting Octavia's limited view of events to paint Stolas as being at complete fault for all her families' troubles while exonerating Stella.
Following the latest episode, and the statement given by Andrealphus that they need to think of an alternative plan regarding how to deal with Stolas due to Octavia being set to inherit Stolas' power and position if he dies, I've started thinking that this might be what the show is going to head towards.
My evidence to support this theory is noted below.
Firstly, Octavia does not share the viewers perspective of the events of the show. This has to be remembered at all times, Octavia lacks the true insight towards Stolas' inner thoughts and actions, as well as the greater context of what is happening that we do.
In S1E2, S2E1 and S2E2, Octavia witnesses' events that would allow Stella to paint Stolas as being the hostile parent. This includes:
  • She witnesses Stella being violent towards Stolas only after she exclaims that Stolas is sleeping with an Imp, with Stolas nonchalantly confirming this is true while being casual and unapologetic about being caught.
  • Stolas constantly appears unapologetic towards having "cheated" on Stella whilst offering no justification or defense for his actions, to the contrary he would appear to be proud of his act.
  • Stolas goes out of his way to forcibly invite Blitzo into his families' affairs, even to the detriment of spending time with Octavia. Adding to the above point, Stolas' willingness to force Blitzo into personal affairs can be interpreted as him placing Blitzo above Octavia and the family in spite of his verbal declarations to the contrary.
  • Stolas constantly fails to offer any genuine reason as to why he is seemingly cheating on Stella, typically stammering or side-stepping an explanation when confronted and offering mere verbal platitudes and reassurances.
  • Stolas appears more interested in fighting with Stella than being with Octavia.
  • Stolas appears to take great pleasure in forcing Stella out of their shared home while instructing his staff to violently throw out her personal belongings.
In reality, based on what we as the audience know, Stolas has spent most of his marriage concealing his conflict with Stella from Octavia, and only in the last year (or so) has the cracks of his marriage with Stella publicly fallen apart. We know that Stella is responsible for the destruction of this relationship. With Stolas having done everything in his power to maintain the facade of a working marriage for Octavia's benefit. All this in the face of multiple attempts by Stella to have Stolas murdered.
However, the perspective from Octavia, as evidenced above and being the circumstances that Stella and Andrealphus will reinforce, would be that her father has suddenly and seemingly without reason openly and flauntingly started cheating on her mother within the last year, enjoyed constantly fighting with her, had begun to ignore Octavia while seemingly also being overtly happy at kicking Stella out of their shared home. Octavia would be led into believing, based on everything she has seen, that it is in fact Stella being abused by Stolas while she is being openly cheated on by him.
This is also putting aside the fact that children often do not become aware of their parents' relationship failing until the divorce occurs, especially if the parents go out of their way to hide it, and that Octavia is further fuelled by fears she will be abandoned by Stolas who will elope with his Imp lover.
Essentially, we the audience know the truth, however Octavia does not.
Taking all of this knowledge, it becomes possible to see how Stella and Andrealphus could instill the belief into Octavia that Stolas is all to blame for the break-up of the family, with them insinuating he wants to destroy their family, cast aside his royal duties, abandon his wife and daughter and run away with some home breaker Imp.
I feel this would tie very well into Andrealphus’s motivations, as the show seems to be implying he wants to usurp Stolas’ powers for himself, thus him being able to control Octavia and place himself into a trusted position as her “advisor” thanks to his convincing her of the “truth” of Stolas would likely give him the ability to manipulate and eventually steal Stolas’ power from Octavia.
That's my theory. Octavia will side with Stella against Stolas. I would then assume the show will pivot towards the group trying to convince Octavia of the truth of the situation, of her learning the truth herself, or maybe it becomes a permanent long-term plot point that lasts for seasons to come. Now whether this event would occur as an end of season cliffhanger, or something resolved in a two-parter is beyond my ability to guess.
COUNTERPOINTS
  • Stella blatantly ordered Stolas' assassination in front of Octavia: In that scene Octavia was seemingly ignorant of what was going on, as she was listening to loud music on her earphones and otherwise not paying attention.
  • Loona emphasized to Octavia that Stolas is doing the best he can: Words of comfort that will start to feel hollow or misplaced as Stella/Andre pour poison into Octavia's ears, she will likely believe her family's arguments over that of the daughter of the man her father is cheating on.
  • Stolas has reassured Octavia he will always be with her: A child always wants to be loved and confided with, but her being bombarded with "evidence" by Stella that Stolas' actions betray the "truth" that he really does not care may cause her to doubt or reject Stolas' words.
  • Stolas was almost murdered by Striker and hospitalized, who was hired by Stella: It's not guaranteed Stolas will even admit to Octavia that her mother is trying to have him murdered in an effort to spare her the emotional turmoil, even if he does Stella can counter that Striker is just some anti-goetia rebel Imp who hunts royalty and deny any involvement. With all the other "evidence" Stella presents to Octavia, she may simply not believe the argument that Striker was hired by Stella, believing it to be just another lie.
  • Stella has likely been a bad mother towards Octavia throughout her upbringing: As of S2E4 we don't have strong evidence telling us what the true state of Stella and Octavia's relationship is or their true opinions towards each other, the strongest evidence available that might support Stella having a known history of being a bad mother is that Stella made Stolas check on Octavia's when she was crying as a child, but I don't see this as evidence of Stella being abusive but more her just being fatigued. It is also not uncommon for Mothers to make the Husbands check their children during the night.
  • Octavia has forgiven Stolas on several occasions: Children want stability, it makes sense that Octavia would be wishing to forgive her father if it might return a semblance of stability to her life.
I’m interested in hearing other people’s thoughts on this theory. Thank you for reading.

2023.05.28 13:59 childrenoftheabyss Family doesn’t seem to care

I was recently diagnosed. I told my closest family and friends. I am currently visiting with some of the family I have told. The other day we were eating dinner and somehow the topic of mental health came up. My dad began to make fun of mental illness. My sister chimed in. I mentioned the term rejection sensitive dysphoria and I saw my aunt roll her eyes. I tried to say that mental health isn’t a joke, but my loud, rude father spoke over me and continued to joke about how none of it is real and doctors just basically make stuff up. Mind you I had called him on the phone about a week ago and told him I was diagnosed and he seemed supportive. It seemed like he cared. Then at dinner he does that? I also told my sister when I was diagnosed. She gave me some copy and paste words of support but since then she’s ignored the issue. Later, after dinner my aunt started yelling at me and my sister and my cousin as we were exploring the attic. She didn’t want us up there. My dad started yelling at us as well. The yelling triggered me a lot because I grew up in a house full of yelling and screaming. When I got triggered I began running my mouth. I told my dad all he did was sit around. I told my aunt the food she had cooked for an upcoming family reunion that had been sitting out to cool on the counter for over 3 hours may potentially give everyone food poisoning. As I did all this I became the bad guy, of course. I then left. Since this has happened I have messaged my sister to explain how invalidating it was to have my own family making fun of mental health days after I had told them I was diagnosed with a severe mental disorder. She is of course ignoring me. My cousin who witnessed the entire thing and who is very understanding and supportive and who has mental health issues as well has been helping me. He saw how they were acting at dinner as well and he is pretty disgusted. I am so thankful I have at least one family member who “gets it”. But the rest? I feel betrayed by. The ignorance and the ignoring are making me want to put up some serious boundaries around these people, especially my sister. Not like that will be difficult since she ignores me most of the time and only talks to me when she has something she wants to talk about.
