2023.06.03 13:15 usedoncethrowitaway Can’t Get Vacation Work

Hi everyone, just thought I’d post here for advice.
I’m a 3rd year mining engineering student in Australia, recently I’ve been applying for vacation programs to a lot of companies but haven’t had really any offers yet and it’s really getting me down, out of about 16 applications to mostly mid tiers and a few majors I haven’t got any offers, the only offers I’ve ever had where the ones I received in my 2nd year which where from a contract miner and a company that was on the verge of going under, I took the contracting job. I thought I would spend this year applying to as many vacation programs as I can and see if I could maybe find a better offer or a better vacation program from another company but it seems I’m lucky to have the vacation position I have currently. For an industry that apparently is in desperate need for engineers they don’t really seem that desperate to hire me, I don’t wanna be that guy but I feel like I may be getting thrown aside for diversity hires.
For context I’m a 3rd year student, 75% CWA throughout my studies, have previous experience working in mining for a couple years before studying, have my drivers license and truck license, which I think seems like an ok resume but if anyone can offer some advice as to how I could possibly improve to get more offers or why I may not be getting any offers that would be much appreciated.

2023.06.03 13:13 JoeCommitMama A rant about grouping up in matches

I'm pretty sure you've experienced it before; your team getting pushed back to your spawn while the opponent spawn-camps them. That's an edge case, but it does bring to mind an annoyance of large numbers; the helplessness of attempting to slow the horde while you get picked off due to the sheer amount of damage you sustain.
The solution seems simple: just use Pokémon that excel in damaging multiple enemies, like Gardevior, Chandelure and Decidueye. However, all three are easily picked off when rushed; which is likely since almost every Pokémon has a dash or mobility-based move of some sort. Hell, Decidueye wouldn't even have the sight range to aim at and weaken a mob of opponents before it gets overwhelmed. You'd have to run far to get a safe distance away, and by then your opponents probably would've scored already. You could have a brave-yet-awfully-not-bright scapegoat to give Decidueye a good view, but chances are that they've prepared for it by waiting to ambush the backliners in, well, bushes. Plus, they won't be alive to provide a view for long.
Playing their own game to fight back probably won't work either since you only have so much time to react before one lane gets swarmed; and your teammates would either be too far away to react in time or already taken down by the mob of opponents. Also, when would you even be able to assimilate a large group to fight back with? This, let alone dealing with stragglers in the opposite lane with lots of points in tow.
One of the only sort of reasonable resolutions I can think of is a minor penalty for needing a large group to take down smaller groups of opponents. An example would he having their location revealed for longer and/or preventing them from scoring or defeating bosses/mini-bosses for 2.5 to 4.5 to 6.5 seconds based on their advantage in numbers, which should probably be reduced by 3s for every opponent taken down if they trickle in. A large group likely shouldn't be punished for defeating one feeble opponent though; there's an obvious reason there.
For a fancier solution, I propose a new Held Item which grants a shield that blocks 13%/14%/15% when the holder is attacked by more than 1 Pokémon on the opposing team and an additional +8%/+9%/+10% for each additional opponent.
Granted, if they were to be implemented the solution is to be a combination of both since being punished for teamwork isn't the best feeling and a Held Item that heavily reduces the damage from a group of opponents would be so powerful that all frontliners would always use it.
Take this with however many pinches of salt you'd like, I'm more of a casual Pokémon Unite player who puts it down for brief periods of time. If you think anything I said is dumb, at least bear the strength to show a degree of respect while doing so, since a response that's just a list of insults isn't something you'd intend on taking to heart.

2023.06.03 13:13 as_abuv_so_beloe Leaving My Job of 8 Years for the Better

I (36F) have been trying to figure myself out - who I want to be, what I need in life and for the foreseeable future. Part of this process is this feeling that my current job, which I've been dedicated to for almost 8 years, no longer serves me and that maybe it's time to move on. I can't shake my feeling that my time in the company is drawing to an end in a good way.
I've been trying to practice acceptance and in doing so came to the conclusion that my needs aren't in the best interest of my current employers or even feasible at this time and for a while. A year or two ago, I would have been pissed about it and looked for jobs out of spite. I would have insisted that my bosses owe me and screwed me over or took advantage of my dedication/loyalty. I don't necessarily think that's the case, nor would it do me any good (or matter) to think that way.
My employers are good friends of mine and have always been open to and address my concerns/needs. They offered me my current position a couple of years ago, knowing I wanted to get my foot in the door and back into the system full-time. I am compensated well in my benefits package and my pay is standard for my degree and experience levels in our state. My hours are okay, my work/life balance is great. My team is small and we have been out on our own little island for the most part for years. We support each other and I try to advocate for their needs/issues as much as I can.
I am in a dual patient care and leadership position, which leans more toward the leadership end. It feels more like a customer service gig - especially lately - which pulls me away from clinical practice. I spend a lot of time doing damage control and making sure our providers get their notes done, fix any of their errors, and remember to send in prescriptions/do paperwork. In the past year, one of our office branches has been dealing with quite a few issues which takes up time and resources of upper management and has affected my location to some degree. I didn't get the job transfer I was promised because of it. There's no room for growth unless I get my NP license, which I have no interest in. I haven't been happy here for these reasons plus a few others I left out because you would be reading this post all day otherwise. I have been open with my discontent with my supervisors.
I know upper management is very busy - not just trying to catch things before they hit the floor at our sister branch, trying to get everything back in order there, but also their lives outside of work. I've had a lot of email correspondence with my supervisoCOO about my concerns and frustrations. He gave me plenty of positive feedback and validated my concerns for a while. He is very optimistic that things will work out and our branch will flourish again, and he will make sure what has happened to our sister branch won't happen to us. But his correspondence about these things has started feeling kind of empty or trying to explain himself for not being as present. His problems are pretty big compared to mine and honestly, I feel like I'm just complaining to him more than anything at this point. He always says we need to have a meeting with the other higher ups to figure these things out together, but these meetings never happen. No one has the time.
So, I decided in the last few weeks to start seeking employment elsewhere. A job opening popped up while I was casually looking and it's something I'm really interested in, I qualify for, has good hours, and great benefits. I applied for it. I was notified that my application was forwarded to hiring manager already, which means I may be contacted for an interview. I used my COO as a professional reference and let him know he will likely get a call about it. He told me he appreciated the heads up and transparency. Some of my colleagues see this as an opportunity for me to use my potential departure as leverage and asked if COO made a counteroffer, but that isn't my intention and he didn't, nor did I expect him to. They have to do what's best for them, I have to do what's best for me. And that's okay.

2023.06.03 13:13 Alexa_GraceXo my (19f) boyfriend (22m) lost his job and stopped paying rent 3 months ago, he is now claiming he’s “too broke” to get me a present for my birthday this month.

the title pretty much explains everything but to get into more detail when my bf & i met he had a job as a mechanic which paid pretty well but a few months ago he lost it due to new management at his location, well anyways i figured since i’ve been making good money lately that i would cover the rent until he gets a job so whatever he has in savings doesn’t completely deplete (we have lived together for about 8 months prior to this which he paid all the rent & bills / expenses all but the last month or two i was buying groceries) so i really didn’t see it as a very big deal but he has put minimal effort into looking for a new job & usually claims wherever he’s trying to apply at “just isn’t hiring” it’s starting to get old especially i wasn’t expecting to be paying the bills for this many months while he sits around watching tv or playing games on the computer meanwhile i’m 19 and running a business.. 😅. idk how to go about this and could really use some advice. my boyfriend didn’t seem like the type of guy to sit around all the time while his woman takes care of the bills. he had a great work ethic and would still help around the house. i’ve tried talking to him about his mental health & how it’s been affected recently and if that’s maybe why he’s been lazy. aside from that he wasn’t “broke” when he lost his job. he was spending lots of money on vapes and other green things which i’m not gonna name bc idk how touchy this sub is about that lol. he said to me the other day that he wants to wait until he gets a job to get me my birthday present this year as he doesn’t wanna “half ass me” and buy me something cheap when he could buy me something better… what upsets me is he knows i’m not a materialistic person honestly when it comes to gifting i care more about the thought behind it and the appreciation rather than quality or value. plus he knows when my birthday is, it’s super shitty knowing i’ve been busting my ass to make sure he feels valid and appreciated yet he can’t even take my feelings into consideration for my birthday. should i warn him to get his life together or else i’ll be leaving?
TDLR: boyfriend has been out of work for months and puts minimal effort into looking for work while i’ve been paying the bills & doesn’t want to get me anything for my birthday.

2023.06.03 13:12 Disneylover2022 Feeling lost and Lonely

I was diagnosed with ADHD in January this year after a lot of research and realising what was happening with me. I have been on medication since March so still figuring out the dosage with my DR.
I have always struggled with making friends, and getting on with colleagues when I manage to get and keep a job. I try to be friendly but always feel awkward and like an outcast.
Feeling really lonely within my job and would like some reassurance that I am not alone in this and how people deal with it.

2023.06.03 13:09 FogHornicus Frustrating teaching method, funny thought & request for grammar help! Had to end lesson early out of sheer frustration & fear I’d imitate Samual L Jackson in Pulp Fiction. “Say Kogo/Czego again, MF, I dare you!!”

So I’ll start by saying I’m dyslexic so I learn a little differently and I know what will work for me after many years of struggle to get where I am, even if I don’t know the subject in question (which would be the case, you know, if I’m trying to learn it). And despite my severe dyslexia I have a BA, 2 masters, speak 4 other languages (B1 to fluent, not counting Polish which is A2/B1 with Polish it’s 5) and have a very good job and bla bla bla. I always add that here in Poland because I’ve found that some people either don’t understand dyslexia or have something against it, or something. One person told me they don’t believe it exists the same way there aren’t 75 genders…I was just confused. But I’m not judging, love Poland and all but do feel the need to add that.
So, due to dyslexics well know trouble with grammar I always avoid it but I’ve seen how it’s holding me back in my Polish so I’ve gotten so private lessons just for grammar. In this context I further explained to the teacher what is usually best for people like me and explained a few approaches (read The Dyslexic Advantage if you want an overview of them). The one I wanted to start with could be described as creating a story and context for memory…grammar just involves memorizing sometimes nonsensical things in any language and route learning (just beating info into your head with no understanding of the wider context) is very hard for nearly all dyslexics but if we understand how something fits into a wider context and add in a story, we will almost never forget it. So this is just easier, right? I’ve tried this with a few Polish teachers and they don’t seem to like it (as a side note, why? What’s the issue here?).
So I explained all this to the guy, my tutor. Yet when we were on a grammar problem involving picking the correct case, when I want an explanation why I got it wrong all he did was scream, “Kogo/Czego, Kogo/Czego” over and over. No explanation, nothing. I said this is what I was talking about and the exact opposite of what will work for me. So I asked if I could explain again the way I learn in English this time. He got furious and kept screaming “Kogo/Czego, Kogo/Czego.” I was like, “I do not know what that means..perhaps if you explain it and the wider context to me like I asked it will.” I mean, is this unreasonable? His reaction to this was to push me a little (I was sitting and he was standing) and repeated “Kogo/Czego, Kogo/Czego!!” almost hysterically now. I shot out of my seat angry because they guy just pushed me, I mean it was no big deal but he just crossed a line. He was about to speak after stepping back (I think my standing up like that surprised him) and I cut him off, “if you say Kogo/Czego again…”. Then I stopped myself and just said “To tyle na dziś, miłego weekendu i do zobaczenia w poniedziałek” and left. Other at the school had gathered outside our little room…maybe hoping to see a fist fight over grammar?!? I definitely see the humor in this all.
Now I’m wondering what to do Monday! Maybe I should imitate Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction when he pulls out a .45 and dares a guy to say what again…but in my case we will swap what with Kogo/Czego! I’m not serious of course but it is maddening. Is this a thing? I’m confused.
After some googling I see that Kogo/Czego is supposed to cue me to recall…something in dopełniać. What that is I have no idea. The entire thing was bizarre and Polish grammar is hard enough, especially for dyslexics. I’m like a masochist or something for trying!
So…the important bit! I know these question words connect to the 7 cases in some way now. How or why or what knowledge or grammar chart that is is a mystery to me. Can someone do what my tutor failed to do earlier today and explain all of it with context and why (what’s up with the yelling question words as a teaching method by the way - I don’t get it at all but I’ve heard it before). Also once I understand the story and context is there a chart or something (like a conjugation table in French or Spanish equivalent in Polish) that this is supposed to trigger or…what? Knowing what I’ve explained about how I learn I’m grateful to anyone who can try to explain this way or another as well. Help! It would be insane to go to prison over a grammar dispute! I’m kidding, of course!! Thank you to anyone that made it this far!!
Also, if anyone has any insight or opinions on how dyslexia is viewed in Poland that’s really welcome as well. Sometimes I just don’t mention it because sometimes I get a distinctly negative vibe when I do.

2023.06.03 13:09 Ludoamorous_Slut How do I deal with Pather effect on Hostile Activity?

My understanding is that I'm supposed to be able to strike a deal with the Pathers by going to one of their bases and talking to the base commander. I did so, and they told me that they wanted to get a weapon from a [REDACTED]. I went to the [REDACTED] and the only option was to destroy it. Then I went back to the Pathers, but now there was no option to discuss it with the base commander - just the "turn in AI cores" option.
Any ideas what's going on? What I should be doing?

2023.06.03 13:07 valkuznet A 2-year story of BOOP vs MYTH

Greetings all,
I rarely visit Reddit, but I felt that I should write something to conclude this for myself, too.
MYTH and BOOP mutual grudge started around 2 years ago when MYTH moved in into the fountain and started to dictate what Boop can do and whatnot. This is eve, MYTH had its plans for Fountain, and BOOP had its own. The ongoing conflict caused a lot of pain to our players, all this kind of mocking, bullying, endless logoff camps, and other unpleasant things. MYTH took 2 constellations from BOOP at our lowest, so in short, the conflict was far beyond peaceful resolution for so many players. Even a player who was mobilized to the frontline IRL, the first question after his almost half a year silence, was: "What's up guys? Have you kicked MYTH butt yet?". Eve is truly an amazing game, that can spark so many emotions.
Time went by, MYTH was growing, BOOP was staying relatively stable but slowly declining. Some people were naturally leaving the game, and a dozen of players were mobilized IRL. Some of them were our key people, which we relied a lot. Then, NODS Corp got broken. Their CEO had to leave Mariupol with his pregnant wife, lost everything, and had to live in basements and eat snow for a couple of weeks (they're okay now, fortunately). We've formed an "HRT" corp to take good care of their players, but it hurt our in-game defences. Our core constellation became weaker. Some people might say, "Why do you mix IRL and game", but well, for a CEO there is always a bigger picture to look at.
Time went by, the alliance stabilized, many people returned to the game, it became easier to ignore IRL, and people started having a lot of fun in the game again. Cheers to Belthor btw, probably the one person in MYTH I truly respect, he reached out to us and tried to support us. We remember this.
Next, anti-SHH coalition came. We were a little bit concerned that as soon as we join the war, MYTH and RETC will attack us (that exactly happened, lol - on the very second day MYTH/RETC started reinforcing everything we had, and that lasted for weeks).

One part of joining CC and for me, and no-lifeing its a couple of months was Tahini. I did "FC" -ing for years in other games, I've been leading an e-sports team, so I've had some experience how to lead. But what I lacked, was a concrete eve battle experience. I am not a EO veteran. We had some ideas, but no proof that it works. We've hit the sweet spot. BOOP/YES doctrine turned out to be the best one on the server. It somehow worked so well.
Our logic flew 2600+, our battleships could tank 140K+ DPS, the doctrine was fucking perfect, and our people did exactly what we wanted from them. Probably, it turned out to be the best doctrine on the server, at that time. Silent couldn't make their Maelstroms work and ditched them. We managed to do it.
I think Silent had a very hard time dealing with RU specifically in our prime in those first months. Too bad Tahini left CC so early, but I think I've got what I wanted, except the cap experience. I FC'ed more than 100+ RU CTAs in the first couple of months. It was 1-3 CTAs every day, some of them at night. BOOP/YES fit together so perfectly. So thanks for bringing us together.

MYTH was a huge nuisance. Our constellations were unlivable. They've made 50+ hull timers every week, killing a pos here and there. But we still kept all our capital ships and fleets in the North. We spaced with poses/citadels as much as we can, we did force MYTH to fight in the opposite timezone, and we did ask TSC to defend us, in return for this defence we promised TSC not to hit MYTH and not to bring our fleets back home for that, keeping them North.
When Silent blew up their sov, we realized. This is the time. Our hands are free. We don't have to keep our fleets in the North anymore. CC doesn't need us anymore.
Hero suggested a regroup in Querious. Fountain is an awesome place that we loved, but in the end, it was the beginning of something new. It was time to move on. The only thing that was keeping us in Fountain, is the desire to take our sweet revenge. I swear, in a little bit more peaceful and respectful environment, MYTH could have simply bought all our sov, and we would have sold it. But no, not leaving Fountain for free, this is a matter of principle now. Maximum pain mode. I am leaving it either a winner, or dead.

Then, careful planning started. We scouted all MYTH timers. We put spies in their chats, everywhere. We had scouted the jump gate network and all its structures. We polished fits on our subcap and caps. The silent war helped a lot with fleet coordination. Many people understood what I want to do and I don't even have to say it. I and Hero happened to work very well together. I covered for his weaknesses and he did that for me, I had strengths he didn't have and he provided me with things I didn't have. Plus both of us could no-life it if needed.

Then we attacked. First day. 19 timers. Second day. MYTH forms 87 battleships/50 BC and 15 caps. We have only 80% of those numbers, and we are already stretched. We are in the offence. We make a lot of hull timers, but MYTH defended a lot too. Much more than we expected they could defend, even provided their numbers. We didn't get O-PNSN. We were running out of time. 48 hours before the O-PNSN hull almost passed, and we couldn't put it in the hull.

We put their important jump gates and form-up location into the hull just 48 hours before the hull time. We had all their comms, all discords. On one of the CTAs, we listened to their cap FC ordering a warp-in, and we jumped right this second. We giggled a bit at stuck capitals but didn't gloat. You don't think this was a coincidence, do you? A few nanoseconds more and we would have gotten not only all their sub cap fleet but half of their cap fleet too. DAMN! We monitored all their pings and adjusted our pings accordingly. We aren't as crazy as Tahini to make a 24-hour op, but we did have our 7-hour op, too. I hope MYTH found the bubbled undock a pleasant experience.

The efficiency we could achieve was amazing. YES/BOOP is far away from being a pure-pvp alliance, but a lot of players learned how to play PVP. We wiped the fleet of 50+ battleships 4 or 5 times while losing 1-3 battleships each time. 1:50 efficiency? Holy shit. Our morale and resolve were so high. We are almost there. We can break it. 90 battleships and 15+ caps camping at the gate look scary, but we can do it.
And we did. A fucking huge alliance is on its knees now. Corps started reaching us. Their morale looks broken. They don't form even captors anymore, still having more than 15+ live citadels. I felt a little bit sad, it felt like the end of a big journey.
Thanks for giving this fight. We appreciate MYTH forming this force and giving this fight. Even silent hasn't formed something like this in our prime. It did take careful months of collecting information, planning, polishing the doctrines, regrouping, and no-life FCing, to break this group in just 10 days with a smaller force, which is BOOP+YES. I always had an example of NO before my eyes, and I am glad we could execute it similarly. I think you've had the chance to stand your ground, but apparently, MYTH just didn't have this kind of inner glue keeping them together, in the end. RIP!

The only thing we couldn't manage is for our spy to set O-PNSN to a little bit better timer, but that 7-hour operation with caps was a killing blow that we enjoyed. Fountain conflict is concluded, and 2 years of stress are relieved. Breaking MYTH was an endgame for a lot of our players. I am glad we do not have to read MYTH CEO and general chats anymore, but we've had more than a few good giggles -- eve is such an awesome game, emotions like that are priceless!

I don't know what's next, but now I can officially say "The fountain conflict is concluded". Thanks for reading. See you on the grid. After I've had enough of other games (Do you play Diablo 4? :P)

Enjoy the movies.

Apologies for the frequency at which this post is appearing, as I have yet to find what I am searching for. I don't believe my standards are excessively high, but perhaps I simply don't have enough time to communicate and would rather arrange a meeting if we seem to be a good match. In any case, let me share my story.
Once upon a time, there was a tall, nerd, and not-much attractive guy pero pwede na who woke up one morning, looked at the sky, and thought, "Well, this sucks." He knew there was only one solution - to turn to the all-knowing oracle of modern dating: T̶i̶n̶d̶e̶r̶ Reddit lol.
With his trusty cup of coffee in hand, he set out to find someone who shared his thirst for knowledge, someone who could keep up with his nerdy quirks, and someone who he could eventually take on 'friendly' dates (whatever that means). He wasn't in a rush to jump into anything too serious too soon, but he knew that someday, he wanted to find someone he could build a meaningful and caring relationship with.
So if you're a fellow lover of coffee, learning, and all things nerdy, this tall drink of water might just be the partner in crime you've been looking for. Dating at times feel like a job hunt doesn't it? So I thought it’d be fun to write it in a mock format just like a resume! LOL

About me

An old soul as older people I spoke with would say, into business and investments, frustrated law student, can drive a fucking 10 wheeler truck (sarcasm towards people looking for someone with wheels), no ex issues or sabit, can provide a certificate of no relationship (kahit wala naman talagang ganon haha).

Here's a list of my favorites:

Godfather Radiohead Paris (not yet) Cycling The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday
Sherlock Eraserheads Coffee Shops Painting How to Win Friends & Influence People
Castaway Chicago Cebu Roadtrips Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Forrest Gump Ebe Dancel Japan Diving Start with Why by Simon Sinek

My preference:

Let's take a break from stressing over the mundane and focus on the important stuff - like what will make us happy for the rest of our lives! Share your thoughts on how we can achieve that and let's get this happiness train moving! Oh, and if you're curious let’s exchange photos first!

2023.06.03 13:06 JamersonRosenstein Installing new gutters costs

Hello all!
I’m a home owner looking to get the best deal on new gutters and leaf guards. I called one place that had an advertisement for gutter replacement and their pricing was all over the place.
We started at replacing the leaf guards only for 40 liner feet at $5000 then after his “limited time deals” it was down to $3,500. I said no, and asked him if there was a discount for doing 80 linear feet, and getting all new gutters and leaf guards. He then magically was able to get the price down to $2,700. I rejected him and the next day he texts me saying there was a sudden surplus inventory and the whole job (80 linear feet of new gutters and leaf guards) was only gonna cost $1,700. At this rate if keep saying no I’m expecting this guy will do it for free if I let him put a yard sign out. Lol I’m kidding, but it does get me a little annoyed that he clearly isn’t opening with his real price.
What should one realistically expect for replacing 80 linear feet of gutter and leaf guards? Would it be cheaper to buy the material myself and hire a contractor to just install? I’m not trying to cheap out, but I would like an honest price.

2023.06.03 13:06 Evilbadscary Wild turtles nesting

Hey everybody. We live on a fairly large pong, moved here last year. Yesterday, we noticed a snapping turtle come up on shore and nest. No big deal, we fenced it off. This morning there were two more.
Are we turning into a snapping turtle nursery? This didn't happen last year, so I'm guessing either their regular space was disturbed or they are first timers?
We have a lot of predators around so we're going to cage them off but is this something we should expect every year now?

2023.06.03 13:04 M-Plifier Help Repaste X280

Help Repaste X280
I opened my X280 for a repaste today and noticed, that the heatsink does not have a continuous flat surface, but a cutout for the smaller part/die. Do I need to put paste on both of the "dies"? And if so, do I have to put more on the smaller one to bridge the distance created by the cutout? Would it also be possible to use PTM 7950 pads? The original from honeywell seems to only come in one thickness and again I'm not sure how to deal with the cutout in the heatsink.
Any help is mich appreciated!

2023.06.03 13:03 SufficientSpaceFoot SCP-7121: The Vision Chest

Item #: SCP-7212 Object Class: Euclid Special Containment Procedures: SCP-7212 is to be kept in a secure containment chamber at Site-12. The chamber is to be monitored by surveillance cameras at all times. Access to SCP-7212 is restricted to Level 2 personnel and above.
Description: SCP-7212 is a wooden chest measuring approximately 1.2 meters in length, 0.8 meters in width, and 0.6 meters in height. The chest exhibits intricate carvings on its exterior, depicting various scenes from medieval history and mythology. The carvings appear to have been done by hand and showcase remarkable craftsmanship.
When a subject touches SCP-7212, they experience a temporal anomaly. Time within SCP-7212 is accelerated, at 1hr:5minute ratio for touching the box and not touching the box. Subjects report experiencing vivid hallucinations and visions related to the carvings on the chest while touching the box. These visions vary from subject to subject and can range from reliving historical events to encountering mythical creatures.
Upon exiting SCP-7212, subjects return to normal time perception, but they often retain memories of the visions they witnessed inside the chest. Psychological evaluations have shown that prolonged exposure to SCP-7212 can lead to increased susceptibility to suggestion and altered perception of reality and hallucination may continue after leaving.
It is theorized that SCP-7212 possesses some form of reality-altering properties, allowing it to manifest the visions in the minds of those who touch it. The exact mechanism behind this phenomenon is still under investigation.
Addendum:
Experiment Log 7212-1: Subject: D-3452 Procedure: Subject instructed to touch SCP-7212 and report their experiences. Results: D-3452 reported experiencing a vision of a medieval battlefield, where they saw knights engaging in combat. They described the details of the armor, weapons, and landscape in great detail. Upon exiting SCP-7212, D-3452 expressed confusion and disorientation, struggling to differentiate between the vision and reality.
Experiment Log 7212-2: Subject: Dr Bandoh Procedure: Dr. Bandoh, a historian specializing in medieval studies, touched SCP-7212 after receiving authorisation from the Site Director. Results: Dr. Bandoh reported seeing a vivid vision of a royal court, where they witnessed a coronation ceremony of a long-dead monarch. The details provided by Dr. Bandoh matched historical records. Dr. Bandoh expressed feverish fascination with the experience and has reminded that there is need for caution when dealing with all SCP Anomalies.
Further experiments are ongoing to understand the nature and limitations of SCP-7212's reality-altering properties. Research into potential applications and potential risks of exposure to SCP-7212 are underway.

Defense attorneys completed their closing arguments, labeling the Arvizo family liars and con artists trying to pull “the biggest con of their careers”.
"They are trying to take advantage of Michael Jackson," said impassioned defense attorney Thomas Mesereau. "They are trying to profit from Michael Jackson. They think they have pulled it off. They are just waiting for one thing - your verdict."
"What they are trying to do to Michael Jackson is so harmful, so brutal, so devastating if you have any reasonable doubt about the double-talk, the lies, its over. You must acquit Michael Jackson," he told the 12 jurors.
Mesereau spoke about the American system of justice and said, "We have the best system in the world and ladies and gentlemen I'm begging you to honor the system. You must acquit him."
He accused prosecutors of trying to "dirty up Michael" because they lack the evidence to prove their case.
"The witnesses are preposterous, the perjury is everywhere," Mesereau declared. "None of it works. The only thing they've had is to throw dirt all over the place and hope it sticks."
He added: "If you look in your hearts do you believe Michael Jackson is evil in that way? Is it even possible? It really is not."
Mesereau then played excerpts from a video in which Jackson denies any sexual impropriety and said that he had “never been betrayed or deceived by children.”
The defense attorney conceded that Jackson had been lax with his money and had let the wrong people into his circle. But, he said, the singer was not the “monster” the prosecution were trying to depict and that he was not guilty of any crime.
Afterwards, prosecutor Ron Zonen delivered a brief rebuttal. He sought to answer the question of Jackson’s motivation for the crime asking, "Why would Mr. Jackson do it? Because he could This child was in love with him. This child would do anything he said."
Zonen reminded jurors of the past allegations made against Jackson saying that this was necessary in order to “see the total picture”. He claimed that Jackson was “in love” with his 1993 accuser and added that the current accuser is a “clone” of the boy in that case.
After both sides rested for the last time, Judge Rodney Melville ordered the eight women and four men on the jury to begin their deliberations. He gave them a 98-page book of instructions.
The Judge told Jackson that he could stay at Neverland during the proceedings but requested that the attorneys remain within 10 minutes of the courthouse in case the jurors had any questions.
These deliberations are the final stage of an ordeal that began 14 weeks ago. During this time the jury has heard testimony from over 130 witnesses.
A verdict was expected early next week.

2013 - Jackson v AEG Trial Day 22
No Jackson family member was at the courthouse.
Paul Gongaware
AEG cross
Putnam asked Gongaware if MJ was comfortable with all the show dates. "Yes, I went through all of the dates with him," Gongaware said. Bugzee, the tour manager, had a big calendar on the walls, Gongaware explained, saying they changed the dates of the shows four times. The jury was shown an email in which Gongaware worked with a staffer to create a calendar to show Jackson. He wanted colors changed. He wanted the calendar to be changed so that it reflected Jackson's show dates and off days differently. Gongaware email:
Figure it out so it looks like he's not working so much
As to the email, Putnam asked if he was trying to fool Michael:
"No, I was trying to make it clear, trying to get it just the way I wanted it," Gongaware responded.
After changing 4 show dates Gongaware said Michael was comfortable with it. He would do 8 shows in July, 10 in August, 9 in September. There would be no shows in October, November and December, resuming with 10 shows in January, 10 in February and three in March. No back-to-back shows. Gongaware said the O2 Arena had a previous commitment in Oct-Dec of 2009 and they could not have the concerts.

Putnam: "Was this a rigorous schedule?"
Gongaware: "No, not at all"
Gongaware recalled that on the HIStory tour they did 10-12 shows per month, from country to country, but this one would stay in London only. Gongaware said he wasn't concerned with Michael's age. "He seemed great to me," he said, and this was stationary show, didn't have to travel.
Gongaware:
The reason Michael wanted to delay the 1st show was he wanted more time to rehearse in the O2 Arena where the show would take place.
He said Michael and Kenny Ortega would decide the rehearsal schedule. Gongaware explained Michael didn't have to attend rehearsals, since it was not part of his deal. He said they never require an artist to rehearse. "I didn't have any expectation," Gongaware said regarding Michael rehearsing. He said he's never seen a requirement for a musicial artist to rehearse & that during the HIStory tour, Michael didn't rehearse but nailed it. "When it was game time, he would show up," Gongaware explained. For instance, Gongaware cited an outdoor concert in Bangkok in high heat, humidity.
As to the email Gongaware wrote about calling Michael lazy, he said he used unfortunate choices of words, Michael didn't like to rehearse.
Talking about the elements of the show, Gongaware described what they wanted to do for the opening of the show. He said Michael would be dressed up in a LED suit, like a television, flashing on him brief movie about things that happened in history. Michael would be lowered down onto the stage. He called the LED suit a "Moon man" suit, but Ortega called it "Light man." Putnam showed a presentation of how the LED suit idea would work. Footage is not on This Is It documentary because it was early stages of prep. Gongaware said the 1st idea was to make Michael float from the audience, but they couldn't make it work. So they decided to lower him down onto the stage. Gongaware said the big screen on the back of the stage was 3D capable. The audience would be given glasses when they entered the show. The 3D songs would be Thriller, Earth Song and Smooth Criminal. "He wanted to do biggest, best show ever, live show," Gongaware said
Putnam showed email chain from Ortega to Gongaware asking to make a deal with choreographer Travis Payne. Answer from Gongaware:
This is not AEG money, it's Michael's money so it takes a lot of time to get approvals
Defendants were trying to establish a pattern that all the money spent was actually Michael's money, not AEG's, just like with Dr. Murray
At one point Gongaware said he learned from Michael about a doctor named Murray. "He came to me and said he wanted his personal doctor on the tour". Gongaware said he suggested to Michael to get a licensed doctor in London who would know the lay of the land, in case of need. "This is the machine, we have to take care of the machine. I want Conrad," Gongaware said Michael responded. I think what he meant was his brain could create it but his body had to deliver the show every night

Putnam: "Were you surprised he wanted to take his doctor on tour?"
Gongaware: "No"
Putnam: "Why not?"
Gongaware: "He had doctors before"
Gongaware said other artists take doctors as well, so he was not the only one and it didn't surprise him. Gongaware said he's been on tour before where an artist had chiropractors, but couldn't remember being in one with a doctor
Putnam: "Did you worry Michael might have a health issue?"
Gongaware: "No"
Putnam: "Why not?"
Gongaware: "He seemed fine to me, had a physical and passed"
Gongaware said the suggestion for a London doctor was due to the cost; paying a doctor full time was much more expensive than hiring a local doctor. Gongaware said Dr. Murray treated Michael for about three years before 2009. He knew the doctor was from Las Vegas but said he was in LA. Gongaware said he then called Dr. Murray to work out a deal. Gongaware testified he didn't have Michael's direct phone number, would go through Michael Amir Williams, his personal assistant, to reach him. Gongaware called Murray on behalf of Michael saying the singer wanted to take him to London. "What do you want to be paid for that," Gongaware asked. Gongaware said he thought Dr. Murray was expecting his call and was aware of the desire to take him on tour. "He said he would need $5 million," Gongaware recalled. "He said he has 4 clinics to close, would lay off people, needs $5 million for that." Asked by Putnam if Murray's price was reasonable: "It was ridiculous," Gongaware said about the amount asked. "It was a lot of money for something like that and Michael could not afford it." Gongaware said he responded that it wasn't going to work" He said this was the first time he spoke with Dr. Murray. After that, Gongaware said he told Michael Amir and Randy Phillips what the doctor had asked. He also told Frank DiLeo. Gongaware said a lot of people who wanted to work for MJ asked for huge sums of money, thinking he had a lot.
Putnam: "Would you be doing this if Michael had not asked you?"
Gongaware: "No"
Putnam: "Did you contemplate bringing a doctor on tour?"
Gongaware: "I didn't think he needed one, we didn't have one in History, he was fine"
"He was Michael's doctor, Michael wanted him. That was it," Gongaware said.

Putnam:" Did you think about checking the doctor?"
Gongaware: "No"
Putnam: "Why not?"
Gongaware: "He was Michael's doctor"
" I'm not going to tell Michael Jackson who his doctor should be," Gongaware explained. "It wasn't my place to say who his doctor was going to be," Gongaware said. "It was his decision."
Gongaware said he doesn't think a doctor's financial situation has anything to do with being an ethical doctor. Gongaware said it never crossed his mind to either do a background check on Dr. Murray or to suggest to anyone to do it. "I just expect doctors to be ethical, the financial side of their lives shouldn't have an impact on their medical decision," Gongaware opined.
Gongaware said he never did a background check on anyone he hired and had he done one on Dr. Murray, it would've been out of the ordinary.
He also said he never considered performing background checks on Jackson's makeup artist, a choreographer who worked one-on-one with the singer or Kenny Ortega, the tour's director. "I didn't see the need for it," he said.
Dr. Finkelstein, a friend of Gongaware, said a doctor should charge $10,000 a month for the tour work. But Dr. Finkelstein would've done it for free, since he was on the Dangerous tour before and had a lot of fun
The second call about Dr. Murray came from Michael Amir Williams saying they were going to need to get a deal done for the doctor. Gongaware said he heard Michael in the car saying "offer 150, offer 150." Gongaware understood that to be $150k/month. Gongaware called Dr. Murray, said he was authorized to offer him $150k a month. He said Dr. Murray responded that he couldn't do it for that. Gongaware told him the offer came directly from the artist and Dr. Murray responded: "I'll take it" Gongaware said Michael approved the amount of compensation. "Michael told me offer 150," Gongaware recalled. "And that's what I did." Gongaware inquired from Dr. Murray how he would get a license in London and the doctor told him not to worry about it. They talked about Dr. Murray's request for a house in London, and the doctor said he would need a three bedroom house. Gongaware recalled Dr. Murray saying he would probably need an assistant and some equipment, but no details were given at this point. After the call, Gongaware said he let Michael Amir Williams know what the result was in a May 6th email: Done at 150k per month, per MJ. He needs about 10 days to wind down his practice then he will be full time
Asked why he had negotiated with Murray, the AEG executive replied that he was "instructed to by Michael Jackson." Gongaware said there was no other reason for him to deal with the doctor. Marvin Putnam asked Gongaware why he didn't tell Jackson he couldn't take Murray on tour with him."Because he could if he wanted," Gongaware said.
Gongaware said he passed Dr. Murray on to Timm Wooley, never had any other conversation with Dr. Murray about him possibly going to London.
Putnam: "Do you have any understanding as to whether a contract with Dr. Murray was executed?"
Gongaware: "One never was"
Putnam: "Did AEG pay Dr. Murray any kind of money?"
Gongaware: "No"
Gongaware said Michael was ultimately responsible for his own health:
"I think everyone is responsible for their own health and well being. He was a grown man with the capability to make decisions regarding his health and medical care"
Putnam showed Gongaware a frame from the This Is It film in which Jackson's manager, Frank Dileo, was sitting in on dancer auditions. Dancers auditions took place at the Nokia Theater on April 13, 14 & 15. Michael attended the last day and made the final decision, Gongaware said. He said Ortega wanted to film the audition to use fresh footage on michaeljacksonlive.com. The cost for crew to shoot the audition was very high, so Gongaware bought a couple of cameras and used his own crew to shoot the rehearsals. He said he wasn't sure what he would use the video for, but thought the website would be a good platform.
Gongaware said during the period at Center Staging, Michael was good, engaging, didn't think there were any health issues or was using drugs
Gongaware said the media in the UK was going wild with gossip about Michael Jackson. "They just lie about things." The Sun claimed Michael had skin cancer on his chest. "It was sport over in London," Gongaware said about stories on tabloids. Gongaware testified about emails in which UK press agents working on This Is It sent him tabloid reports on Michael's health. Gongaware said he urged the press agents not to respond. He wanted Jackson's performance to speak for itself & silence skeptics.
Gongaware on 5/27/09:
The Kid is healthy and rehearsing every day. He was still there at dance rehearsals at 9pm last night when I left. Our redemption will be when he does his shows, that makes all of this build up so damn sweet. We don't have to sell tickets, so we can just sit back and prove them wrong by just doing it.
Gongaware said he was not concerned
"If there was something going on, if he had cancer, we would've heard about it."
Michael Jackson rehearsal venues:
  • Mar 28- Center Staging
  • May 27- Forum June 23 - Staples Center
  • July 13 - O2 Arena
Putnam also asked Gongaware about an incident Karen Faye testified about, that she heard him yelling at Michael's assistant one day. The incident occurred while This Is It rehearsals were happening at The Forum in LA. Faye claimed she heard Gongaware yelling about Jackson being late to a rehearsal and told his assistant to get him there. "Never, never happened," Gongaware said, shaking his head.
Putnam went through a chain of emails about tabloid reports in the UK regarding Michael. In one, it said Michael had asked AEG to reduce the number of shows by half. Gongaware said that such a discussion never happened. Gongaware testified he woke up to one gossip headline pretty much every day. His idea was simply to ignore the tabloids. "An amazing show would be the answer", Gongaware said
Gongaware on 6/5/09 in response to Sunday Mirror Query:
"We can only make this work, of course, if MJ puts on the best show of his life. I'm here to tell you that be will. I have seen it for myself. Last night he ran 9 songs with full band, singers and dancers. Sang every one, he was amazing, captivating, riveting. And he's just getting started. Taking it one step further. When people realize that bulls**t the press has been, they will be in receptive mood for the truth Hey look. No skin cancer. He's just a good dad, loving raising his kids. His art and his craft are paramount. A gentle, loving man who does care about people
"The shows were going to be spectacular," Gongaware said. Putnam showed a clip of Michael in front of a green screen with 11 dancers, who would become 11,000. Gongaware said Michael was great at this point
Regarding email Phillips sent Gongaware directing to remove Michael's "skeletal" scenes Gongaware said he didn't take anything out of the movie.
Putnam: "Did you remove anything from the movie?"
Gongaware: "No"
Putnam showed a clip from This Is It with the making of "Thriller 3D" and Jackson wearing red jacket.
Putnam: "Did you try to alter in anyway how Mr. Jackson looked, appeared?"
Gongaware: "No"
Gongaware said he didn't remember any of the footage been removed because of how Michael looked. "We just let the footage speak for itself"
The mini-movie of "Earth Song" a bulldozer would come out from a ramp in center stage.
Putnam: "A real bulldozer?"
Gongaware: "I wish, it would've been cheaper, but it would have crushed our ramps"
Gongaware said they had to build the bulldozer like a prop. It would appear at the end of the song on stage. "I think the live audience would be just captivated by it," Gongaware said about the little girl running after the last plant on Earth song.
End of the show would be 3D animation. An airplane taxis up, door opens, Michael entered the plane. The airplane door closes, Michael would actually take an elevator down and out of the building, but the plane would take off over the audience
Gongaware said he didn't know if anyone was responsible for Michael's nourishment. Tour would be demanding and exhausting
Gongaware said he met Dr. Murray once at MJ's Carolwood house and ran into him at The Forum during rehearsal. There was a meeting scheduled to discuss Michael's nutrition with Randy Phillips, Kenny Ortega, Dr. Murray, Michael, Gongaware and DiLeo.
Putnam: "Do you recall anyone in that meeting ever telling Dr. Murray how he should be treating Michael?"
Gongaware: "No"
Gongaware said he didn't have any medical training and wasn't qualified to tell Conrad Murray how to treat Jackson
Gongaware said neither Dr. Murray nor Michael talked about the treatment he was receiving. The meeting was about nutrition & vitamin therapy. Gongaware said he had no idea Dr. Murray was giving Michael Propofol and first heard of the anesthetic after Michael died. Gongaware said Dr. Murray was really engaged in the meeting, seemed like a very intelligent guy and wanted to take care of Michael very much. This was the first time Gongaware met with Dr. Murray. He said there were no signs of Michael being poorly treated by the doctor. "Michael was engaged in the meeting, attentive, seemed happy we were having this meeting," Gongaware opined. "He's a doctor, he'd know better than anybody how to treat his patient," Gongaware said about Dr. Murray.
As to Gongaware's email saying AEG, not Michael, paid Dr Murray he said he was mistaken. "We wouldn't pay his salary, we'd advance Michael's money". Gongaware said he didn't remember writing/receiving the email, but never denied he did it.
As to Michael being habitually late, Gongaware said the singer worked on his own schedule, did things his way
Gongaware said his understanding was that Michael hired a trainer of his choice, Louis (Lou) Ferrigno: "I made the deal with him (Ferrigno). He was supposed to be paid a certain amount of money per session" He didn't elaborate on fee, how many times he worked with Michael. Putnam showed an email from Travis Payne, he suggested a massage chair to be put in Michael's dressing room.
As to Bugzee's email saying MJ needed cheeseburgers, brats and beers, Gongaware said Bugzee was joking, Bugzee cared very much for Michael. Gongaware testified he didn't recall having any concern about Michael's health/using painkillers as of Monday 6/15/09, 10 days prior to his death
Gongaware was asked about several emails that have been shown before, including messages related to MJ missing rehearsal on June 19, 2009. The executive was on the East Coast for a family wedding, but responded to one message questioning why Murray wasn't at rehearsal. Gongaware email:
Take the doctor with you. Why wasn't he there last night?
He then explained his thinking to the jury. Gongaware:
If his patient is having a problem and he's sick, and he's his only patient, it seemed like he should be there
Gongaware said on 6/19/09, he was out of town. "This is the day Michael had chills at rehearsal and was apparently sick," Gongaware recalled. "If the meeting was going to be about what happened that night, the doctor should be there," Gongaware said.
Gongaware said he believed Michael wanted to go on tour. He said he doesn't remember anyone talking about pulling the plug on the shows.
Putnam: "Did anyone tell you at this point that Michael needed a drug addiction specialist?"
Gongaware: "No"
Putnam: "Did anyone tell you they were concerned with the care Dr. Murray was giving to Michael?"
Gongaware: "No"
Gongaware said that on 6/20/09 he did not think Michael's health was deteriorating.
With last questions of the day, Putnam asked Gongaware if he was concerned about Jackson's well-being. He said "Yes"

2023.06.03 13:03 Orion484 PC Upgrade - Existing MB with Ryzen 5000, or new everything with Ryzen 7000

Hi
Hoping the fine people of this subreddit can advise.
I’m gearing up to an upgrade of my younger brother PC. It was last upgraded on Christmas 2019 and has the following specs:
The intention will be to install a new graphics card – possibly the RTX 4060 Ti. I appreciate the reviews of this card haven’t been great so I will consider alternatives as well, but essentially, it’ll be something in this sort of power / price region.
I’ll also retire the 1TB spinning hard drive (which is now 8 years old) and give him a 1 TB SSD we don’t need.
If needs be, I’ll upgrade the PSU as well.

I can’t decide which route to go down for the rest of the upgrade however, and I have drawn up two options:
Option 1: Cheap Option

Option 2: Expensive Option

I have 3 main questions for discussion:
  1. Is there really a need to go to all the expense of Option 2 to get a respectable performance gaming machine?
  2. In the case of option 1, I appreciate most modern graphics cards are now PCI gen 4 - are we going to badly limit the potential of these cards by using with a PCI gen 3 motherboard?
  3. Also in the case of option 1, what are your thoughts on running a 5800X, which has a TDP of 105W, on the motherboard he currently has – I appreciate running these more power hungry processors on budget orientated boards isn’t always a sensible decision in the long run.

2023.06.03 13:02 Patient-ssi How long has it been since a PT visit?

18M, 6'0", 150lbs. For the past few years I've had some pain in my lower back and chest that would flare up in pain. I would get chest pains and would have to lie down or lay on my stomach to deal with it. About 2 months ago I had my first PT visit and he did an MRI of my lower back. The findings indicated the following: "There's dysfunction in the anterior insula and mesial branch branch of the mesial branch of the inferior colliculus. It's likely not a subluxation but it is suggestive of dysfunction in this subluxation."
I have had a pain in my lower back and chest since August and it hasn't gone away. I've been taking multivitamins, fish oil, and magnesium supplements daily. I have also been on ergonomic bracelets and treadmill shoes. I would get pains in my back and chest for a few hours then go back to sleep. My back pain started about 6 months ago and has continued to increase. I'm seeing a PT soon who will do a physical and give me some suggestions on how to better deal with my pain.

2023.06.03 13:02 sarcasticb My parents are suddenly against my micro-destination ceremony

Our dream wedding is an intimate (10-20 people) outdoor wedding at a National park in front of an amazing view with a somewhat casual, local reception in our hometown for the rest of our friends and family later on. We are both very outdoorsy people and love places with mountains or beaches, but I have been looking at locations within my favorite parks with easier walking access and even golf cart access for people who aren’t into hiking like we are.
If I had my way I would elope, but my fiancé wants a few people and my mom is adamant that she witness it, even if she has to “hide behind a rock where we won’t even notice her.”
I started telling my dad and step mom about our plans to see how far they would be willing to travel so we could choose a National Park and their answer surprised me. Most of my family lives in the Midwest and they are wanting me to plan something within a couple hours of our hometown near which are zero National Parks. They keep sending me ideas for venues there and I feel like they aren’t understanding that I just don’t want that.
They have always been about traveling and being free spirited, but they are now the only ones to try to guilt me into having a more local wedding and to save the travel for a honeymoon. Their excuse is that no one wants to fly or drive that far and how people with dogs will be inconvenienced (we also have dogs). Its pretty obvious they are the ones not wanting to travel far or deal with their dogs because no one else has expressed a problem with it or is just not going and happy attending the reception.
The biggest head scratcher to me is in the same text they were talking about how since they paid for one of my older brothers to get married in Vegas (he eloped and had a hometown reception) they would pay for or contribute to my venue.
I am at a loss, the last thing I want to do is start an argument or make them feel like i don’t care if they come ( i really do want them to come but if they legitimately can’t i will understand). I’m sort of just really confused and disappointed by their reaction.
