2023.06.08 00:40 Fudd_Patrol Just got micro varicocelectomy this is my recovery journal

Just got my varicocelectomy with a vasectomy done about 10 hours ago. My varicocele was incredibly painful and would flare up throughout the period of the past year when it was discovered while having sex after lifting a fridge earlier that week on a appliance dolly. My urologist says it wasn't the heavy lifting that caused it as much as that may have contributed to the start of pain. I will use this thread to document my FULL recovery as one critique of this subreddit I have is there isn't enough coverage of the full recovery and lots of negative posts regarding recurrences or pain:
Procedure was outpatient I arrived to the hospital at 6:30am and surgery took place at 9am it was very easy to go under general anesthesia. No complications.
Post surgery the anesthetic made the pain very manageable. I am now at home iceing off and on per my discharge instructions wearing an Athletic supporter. My original varicocele pain would vary from as low as a 2 to as high as a 7 out of ten. The post op pain while on Norco(hydrocodone) is about a 4 or 5 in a totally different area than the original varicocele pain(original varicocele pain is gone).
I am under restrictions of no lifting over 10 pounds for one week and returning to work June 19th on light duty(nothing over 30 pounds). I have a fairly physical job as an apartment maintenance tech.
Regarding showers I am not to shower for the first 48 hrs, then once I shower I am to leave on the glue strips on the incision site until they fall off naturally. No baths for 7-10 days.
Ejaculation/sex: my surgeon said there isn't a risk of damage from ejaculation during healing. But I am going to follow the post vasectomy instructions of waiting 1 week for resuming any sexual activity as a precaution. Since I've had a vasectomy my home work is to ejaculate alot until they do a semen analysis in August
I will post updates in comments. But if you are reading this take hope there is an end to this nightmare and you can do it!❤️

2023.06.08 00:35 The-Grand-Potatoe Knife Questionnaire

I’m overwhelmed in the world of Japanese knife makers… please help

  1. What budget, currency, and region are you based in/can purchase from? -
    1. Idealing i’m looking for something in the $100 - $150 range, but can go over that for the right knife, USD, I’m in the Seattle Area of the United States
  2. What length, handle type, and profile are you looking for? -
    1. I’m looking for a paring knife or small Petti (90mm -130mm), Ideally a Japanese Octagonal handle, but open to a western style.
  3. Intended use case of the knife? Be as specific as possible -
    1. Primarily used for cutting fruit (no stone fruit) and decorative cutting. Example scoring bread or cutting fruit to decorate baked goods.
  4. Do you prefer a high performance knife with a thin, fragile edge or a knife that trades off cutting performance for a more durable and forgiving edge? -
    1. Looking to prioritize cutting performance over durability
  5. Do you require a stainless knife? -
    1. No, I’d actually prefer a high-carbon knife that will patina over time.
  6. What knives have you owned? What do you like/dislike about them? -
    1. Zwilling Bob Kramer Carbon Steel 2.0 10 inch chef's knife. I love this knife, the patena is beautiful, the edge retention is better than anything else I have, and I like the weight of it.
    2. Shun Kanso Asian Utility Knife. This was my first eastern style knife. I love the flat profile, this is my workhorse for most veggi prep. I really like the shape and look of this knife. Down sides, it’s a little heavy and thick, it has a tendency to wedge a bit. Its edge retention is also sub-par for what I expected from Shun… I will likely replace this knife with a thinner, higher performance knife in the future.
    3. Victorinox Rosewood Santoku Knife, 7-Inch. I bought this for my wife so she wouldn’t touch my other knives. I needed something that she could leave in the sink without making me cringe. That said, I actually use this knife a lot… I love how light it is, how thin the blade is, and the edge retention is great. It just doesn’t look very nice…
  7. What knives are you considering? What knives from the flowcharts interest you? Provide links where possible.
    1. I’m a little out of my depth here… hence why I’ve come to this group for help. Here are a few that i’ve found that I’m initially drawn to.
    2. Takamura Knives Chromax Steel Hammered Petty-Utility Japanese Knife 130mm Brown Pakka Wood Handle
      1. I don’t know much about Chromax steel… But I really like the hammered look and the “rustic” handle. Although I would prefer a dark wood octagonal handle
    3. Kikusumi BLACK GHOST 5″ Petty Knife
      1. This is well above my stated budget, but the size and style are perfect. I also don’t know much about G3 steel in comparison to high-carbon steels.
    4. Tsunehisa AS Kurouchi Petty 80mm
      1. This would be great if I could find one.
  8. Any other additional context that you would like to give? (finishes, special requests, specific materials, height requirements, etc.)
    1. I prefer darker handles. I don’t like Damascus finish, but I do like a hammered finish.

2023.06.08 00:34 asterrrrr_ is it a bad idea to get an autism diagnosis in the current political climate?

so first, i'm a trans boy, and i've suspected i'm autistic for about 3 years now and have been basically self-diagnosed for about 2.5 years. i'm going to be a senior in high school in a few months, which means college is coming up fast, and a college accomodations department usually doesn't care how sure you are in your self-diagnosis if it hasn't been confirmed by a professional. so about 6 months ago i told my parents i'd like to be evaluated for autism. my dad was fine with it but my mom didn't want me "putting labels on myself" that were going to "limit me down the line." (i can see why she thinks that, as i've got a 35 on my ACT and pretty consistent A grades in my honors/AP heavy course load, but I'd be failing if not for my ADHD meds, and i have a lot of social and sensory struggles that aren't as obvious or easily measured as grades are.) i haven't really talked about it since, and i'm getting worried that if i don't bring it up again then they'll think it was just a little phase. but i'm still sure i'm autistic.
now, like i said, i'm a trans boy. i live in Arkansas, and a law was passed here in March that, among many other things, requires 2 letters confirming that you do not struggle from any other "mental health conditions," including ADHD, autism, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, or intellectual disability, before you can start gender affirming care as a minor. now, i was able to start testosterone 4 weeks ago, before the law goes into effect, so i was able to avoid that. i also know that if the law was applied to me, i'd be screwed with or without an autism diagnosis since i'm diagnosed with ADHD and have been in treatment for depression. but some laws (i believe in Florida?) more recently have been specifically targeting autistic trans people and taking away their autonomy to make these medical decisions for themselves. while Arkansas' flow of anti-trans bills has slowed significantly, i wouldn't put it past them to make a law like this, and if so then having an autism diagnosis would really screw me over.
so i'm wondering if you think it would be worth it to try to get diagnosed right now. personally i don't really think it is, but i want some other opinions on this

2023.06.08 00:32 FlyingDadBomb At Risk of Downvotes, Should We Consider a One-Day Boycott?

Please hear me out before you respond. I know a lot of people feel very strongly about this, and a lot of people are tired of complaints and just want to play the dang game, and I get it.
That said, Second Dinner has created numerous issues for players in the past two months that, notably, have left a poor taste in the mouths of the community. Namely:
  1. Flexible Series drops came as an unpleasant surprise, rather than being announced in advance, which lead to people saving fopinning/unpinning cards like Darkhawk and Knull and then not getting them.
  2. After deciding not to drop Darkhawk, they're putting out an incredibly overpriced Darkhawk Bundle, allowing you to buy him directly after arbitrarily refusing to make him easier to acquire freely.
  3. Among the cards that they've decided not to drop are, surprisingly, extremely meta-relevant Season Pass cards (Hit Monkey and Zabu).
  4. This is especially concerning with SD's proven history of nerfing cards only AFTER they become more available.
  5. SD is dropping only undesirable cards (cards that have no meta relevance), and, rather than dropping them directly to series 3 as they suggested was possible, they're dropping them first to series 4, which could make cards like Darkhawk, Knull, Spider-Ham and Spider-Man 2099 more difficult to acquire through collector's reserves.
All of this paints a picture of a card game that is all too eager to tie performance to value, creating the possibility that those who pay more will have an easier time competing, which does not bode well for the future of the game, and is in diametric opposition to Ben Brode's stated goal at the beginning (anyone else keep getting those YouTube ads that start with Brode saying "what if you couldn't just go into a card game, drop hundreds of dollars and immediately have the best cards?").
Thus far, though, SD has been entirely unreceptive to any of these concerns. They were brought up when flexible series drops were announced, and SD pushed forward with this month's series drops as if we said nothing. It's clear they hear us, but they aren't listening. The only response given thus far has been to tell us that there's "more to come," which is not exactly comforting given that what we've already seen is not so great.
What we could consider is a one-day blackout, where a large enough group of us decide collectively to not play the game. Don't even log on to collect your free 50 credits. I would suggest we do so on the day of Silk's release on 6/12. That would certainly get SD's attention. I would also suggest that we have specific asks (rather than just "stop," or "be more transparent"). I think two reasonable requests are as follows:
  1. A transparent series drop schedule for Season Pass cards - that way we know exactly how much early access we're paying for, and they can't keep $10 cards out of the hands of the public in perpetuity. Have all the flexibility you want with newly released cards, but leave $10 monthly cards out of it.
  2. No bundles containing series 4 or series 5 cards. Stop letting people buy their way into higher series.
These two demands alone would help prevent SD from tying value to performance and pushing the game into dicey territory where cash is king.
There is precedent for these types of boycotts. I remember when the Ubisoft game For Honor had released and immediately started putting a heavy emphasis on their premium currency. That led to a proposed boycott, and the community didn't even have to go through with it before Ubisoft enacted meaningful change.
This could be a real chance to let Second Dinner know that the community is unhappy but also that we're willing to do something about it. As they've proven, just being upset is not enough for them to make any meaningful changes. I'm curious to see what you all think. I can see a lot of you are unhappy about these changes.
A note to those who are totally OK with everything Second Dinner has done thus far: consider for a moment that we all want the same thing. We are all here because the core game of Marvel Snap is so freaking fun, and the theme is so on point and relatable to our interests, and we want to see the game succeed because then we get to keep playing it forever and ever. But, if you are someone who doesn't think Second Dinner has done anything wrong, you have to know that their actions have negatively impacted the Marvel Snap community. In no uncertain terms, they're turning people away, which means the game that you and I both love is potentially jeopardized. Just look at the state of the subreddit and content creator community. You have prominent people saying they aren't playing anymore, or aren't spending any money because it's either not worth it, or too predatory. I myself almost quit earlier this year. I stopped playing for two weeks during the Shuri/Thanos meta because SD was slow to balance untenable metas and the card acquisition system made it extremely difficult to compete without the imbalanced cards. And yeah, the thought has crossed my mind to stop again given this new round of card acquisition shenanigans. And, like it or not, I'm not the only one. So even though you might be totally fine with it, and think people who aren't are just entitled whiners, but at the end of the day they're people who play the game and healthy games can't afford to lose players, at least not at the rate of those who are upset. So again, we want the same thing, and SD is the obstacle.
I hope we can have a reasonable discussion about this. Please share your thoughts. Do you think a boycott is a good idea? Would you suggest any changes to what I've outlined (date, demands, other issues)? If you don't think it's a good idea, how do you suggest we better get the attention of Second Dinner in a greater capacity than what they've shown right now?
TL;DR: SD has screwed up in numerous ways, but hasn't shown a willingness to listen to our concerns and adapt. A one-day boycott on 6/12 (the day of Silk's release) could make them listen if enough of us participate, and enact meaningful changes. If you don't agree and think SD has done nothing wrong, know that we both want the same thing - a healthy and vibrant game with lots of players, and SD's actions are harming player retention.
Edit: One last thought: What would Hobie do??

2023.06.08 00:30 AutoModerator General Questions Thread, June 07, 2023

A thread for new collectors to ask basic questions of the community.
Frequently Asked Questions below!
A longer version of the subreddit rules is here.
For questions specifically concerning bootlegs or vendor legitimacy, please ask in the Bootleg Megathread.
NSFW & Spoiler Guidelines
  • For Self Posts: include a bolded NSFW note next to links in that post.
  • For Links to sites/images: If the figure is NSFW, or the website has any NSFW content (including ads) be sure to tag your post NSFW and use the appropriate link flair.
Bootlegs
Any collection posts containing bootlegs, comments advocating buying bootlegs, or links to sites selling bootlegs, recasts, or unlicensed merchandise will be removed.
People often ask about the legitimacy and/or safety of a number of websites which sell large resin statues. The more commonly-asked of those deal primarily in resins from studios which do not have a license from the Japanese IP holders to produce merchandise. Therefore links to those sites are not permitted here. Another sign is if MyFigureCollection doesn't list the either the statue, its manufacturer, or the shop it's being sold on.
MyFigureCollection
My Figure Collection is like MyAnimeList... but for figures! Their database includes thousands of items which been produced during the last couple of decades, along with reviews of shops and other helpful articles. One can also list their own collection and post gallery photos.

Buying & Shipping

1. What’s the best place to buy my anime figures from?
That’s going to depend a lot on what works for you, but most people around here buy them from Amiami, Big in Japan, Hobby Search, HobbyLink Japan, or Tokyo Otaku Mode. If none of those work for you for whatever reason, there’s a list of reputable retailers in the sidebar that you can check out at any time. Be extra careful when ordering figures from websites like Amazon or ebay, as there are a lot of bootlegs on those sites. Don’t be afraid to ask in our Bootleg Megathread if you’re unsure.
2. What differences are there between the shipping options I get from most Japanese shops?
Below is a rundown of the main shipping choices you’ll get at most retailers. Keep in mind that if an order is large enough you will be forced to use one of the more expensive options, as SAL shipments have lower size and weight restrictions.
  • Unregistered SAL: Sometimes referred to as uSAL, is usually the cheapest method. It does not come with any tracking or insurance. Usually takes up 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • Registered SAL: Sometimes referred to as rSAL, is insured for the declared value up to 6,000 yen. It comes with a tracking number and usually takes 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • EMS: This method of shipping is much faster than either SAL options, usually arriving within a week of shipment. EMS shipments are insured for the declared value up to 2,000,000 yen.
  • Airmail
  • E-packet
  • Surface: Shops don't offer this very often. It's an actual cargo ship and slow as a result.
  • DHL: Becoming more available as an alternative to EMS on AmiAmi and other sites. Can be less expensive than EMS and of comparable speed, but may be more reliant on the specific geographical area being shipped to. The price is also determined by the size of the box. Offers their own tracking.
3. I placed two+ orders for figures at different times. Will my items be shipped together, or will I have to pay shipping twice?
Most shops will ask you to pay shipping on a per-order basis, but here are some that will allow combined shipping:
  • Amiami: You can combine orders here, as long as the orders ship in the same month. It doesn’t matter if the item is new or preowned. Any preorders that are set for that month can also be combined with other orders for that month. However, be aware that if the preorder gets delayed, Amiami will remove that item from that month’s shipment and place it on a new order. To combine orders on Amiami, use the “Combine Orders” feature under “My Account”.
  • Hobby Search: Hobby Search will let you combine orders that release in the same month, but you cannot combine in stock items with preorders. If you want to combine multiple preorders, or multiple in stock items, you can do so using the “Order Recombination” feature on your account page.
  • HobbyLink Japan: At HLJ, you have the option to send paid orders to their “Private Warehouse”, where you can store them for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to ship the items, you simply select which items to ship and HLJ will combine them into one shipment for you. To use this, just select the “Private Warehouse” option as shipping when you order.
If you’re unsure about whether or not a shop we haven’t listed will combine your orders, please refer to their individual FAQs.
4. When will I get charged for my preorder?
Most Japanese shops charge you once the item is in stock and ready for shipment. When that happens, they will send you an email asking for payment. Some shops (mostly overseas ones), will allow you to pay for the item up front though, if you’d like. A few with that option are:
  • Big in Japan (Japanese store)
  • Tokyo Otaku Mode
  • Anime Island
  • Crunchyroll
Keep in mind that overseas stores will likely get the figure a few months after Japanese ones, so pay attention to the release date stated on the website you are buying from so as to avoid that confusion.
5. Should I expect to pay customs fees when importing figures?
That depends on where you live. Here’s a quick rundown:
  • Australia: 10% GST is now assessed up front.
  • Canada: Minimum declared value for charges is around CAD$20 for regular shipments, and CAD$60 for gifts (gifting something only seems to lower the declared value by about CAD$40, not deplete it completely). When using Amiami, try their Small Air Packet option. It comes with tracking, gets there in about the same time as EMS, and is better at avoiding customs.
  • European Union: As of 1st July 2021, VAT has to be paid on all goods imported from outside of the EU. Retailers are supposed charge VAT for purchases under €150, however many Japanese retailers currently do not, so VAT will be charged when your order arrives in the EU. Orders that are >€150, VAT and duty will be charged by your local customs.
  • UK: As of 1st January 2021, VAT is to be charged by retailers for orders <£135. However, customs isn't currently charging VAT on parcels valued at <£135, even if the VAT hasn't been paid. Goods >£135 will have their VAT and duty calculated and charged by customs.
  • Mexico: Minimum declared value for customs fees is USD$300 for shipments by post, and USD$50 for shipments by courier.
  • United States: A shipment has to have a declared value of USD$2,000 before customs starts hitting you with fees, so you most likely won’t have to worry about them at all.
6. The figure I want is an exclusive, how do I go about ordering one outside of Japan?
You have three options for this:
A. Big in Japan is known to stock exclusive figures and ship to other countries. Usually the price is higher because they build in their proxy fees, but it’s easier than worrying about using a forwarder or proxy service. If you live in the US, Crunchyroll, Right Stuf, and Tokyo Otaku Mode also get exclusives sometimes, but out of the states the shipping can get expensive.
B. Forwarding Services: A forwarder is someone who you ship an exclusive item to so that they can forward the package on to you, usually for a flat fee + shipping. When using a forwarder you still make the purchase yourself, and enter their address into the shipping field. When the box arrives at the forwarder they will then stick your address onto the package and send it on its way.
Some popular forwarders are:
Be sure to read each sites instructions on forwarding carefully!
C. Proxy Services: With a proxy, you tell them what the item you’re looking for is and they will purchase it in your stead. This is handy for when a company doesn’t accept foreign credit cards, or you’re having trouble navigating a Japanese website.
Some popular proxies are:
Again, be sure you thoroughly read through each sites proxy instructions.
7. I see a bunch of really cheap figures that ship from China on ebay. Are those okay to buy?
Generally, no. They’re most likely bootlegs. If you want a second opinion on that, feel free to ask in the Bootleg Megathread that’s always stickied at the top of the sub.
8. What’s a bootleg, and how can I avoid buying them?
A bootleg is a counterfeit figure often made using rejected molds of the official product. They are usually priced significantly lower than the genuine article, and in order to make their profit, bootleggers use lower quality materials and have less attention to detail- resulting in a substandard figure.
The Bootleg Megathread that I mentioned in question 7 is a great tool to avoid buying any bootlegs. It has a few tips and tricks to avoiding them to begin with, and a few more on how to spot them if you’re worried you might already own one.
9. Does anyone know when figure X is going to be released? How do I know if it was delayed?
My Figure Collection (sometimes referred to as MFC) does an excellent job of staying on top of information like release dates and delays. If you’re curious about an upcoming figures release date, check there first. This information can be found directly under the “Releases” section on a figure’s entry. If you only see a month and a year in that section, it means the release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer, and there is still a chance the figure could be delayed.
If you make an account on MFC you can also subscribe to comments, changes, and pictures via a checkbox on the right hand side of a figure’s listing. Subscribing to any of these things will allow MFC to send you an email anytime the subscription in question updates. Subscribing to “changes” is a great way to keep up with release dates and delays, among other things.
10. The figure I want is long sold out at normal retailers! What’s the best place to pick it up in the aftermarket?
A list of reputable retailers can be found under the “Shops” section of the /AnimeFigures sidebar. They all sell legitimate products, and many of them also sell figures second hand. However, the most frequently suggested second hand sites are Mandarake and Amiami- who has a preowned section that they update every night save Sundays and Japanese holidays around 1PM JST and again around 6PM JST.
AmiAmi grades their pre-owned items on a letter scale. The general consensus from buyers is that their ratings are conservative, so unless the item and/or packaging is specifically indicated as having significant flaws, pre-owned items from them are usually in at least as good a condition as their rating suggests.
Note: When you search Mandarake, you’ll get the best results by using the Japanese characters for whatever you are searching. If you don’t know them, you can find them on MFC by clicking on any of the “details” in that figure’s listing.
11. Amiami has a figure I’m interested in labeled as “For sale in Japan only”. Does this mean I can’t order it without a proxy or forwarder?
No, you can still order it. Amiami’s English site has that warning on many items, and it’s mostly meant to inform you that this product was made for a Japanese market, and as such, will have Japanese speaking/writing in it- so don’t expect any instructions to be in English. If Amiami doesn’t want foreigners buying a certain product, they won’t even list it on their English site.

Displaying Your Figures

12. What display cases do you recommend?
If you live near an Ikea try out one of these:
*If you decided on a Detolf, you might find that there is a lot of wasted space. Here are a few tutorials on raising the shelves or and adding extra ones in.
If you don’t live near an Ikea, Amazon has a few display options, though they are more expensive. Also keep an eye on your local Craigslist (or your country’s equivalent) and stores near you that are closing up.
13. What lighting do you guys recommend?
Ikea’s Dioder LED strips were discontinued after a long run. A current version is the Vattensten, if you're inclined to buy your case and lights at the same time.
LED strips have become very commonly available in recent years; most hardware and home furnishing stores carry a selection now. Just make sure that the lights don’t get too hot!
14. What are those clear plastic boxes that I see under everyone’s figures in their collection posts, and where can I get them?
Those are called risers. Most of us use standard acrylic risers like these. Some other, easy to find things that have been suggested are:
Check your local hobby store for the first 2 options, or your local hardware store if you want to make your own.
Another common suggestion is to visit The Container Store if you have one near you. They have a lot of things to choose from that can suit a variety of needs. Be sure to check out their standard acrylic risers, their Amac boxes, and the various display cases they sell (baseball cases, mini car cases. hockey puck cases, etc).
15. Should I keep my figures sealed?
That is, of course, up to you really, but here are a few things to keep in mind when debating this question:
  • Keeping it sealed can actually damage your figure. PVC figures usually have something called plasticizer in them, and that plasticizer needs to be able to breath. If a PVC figure isn’t exposed to oxygen, after a period of time the plasticizer starts to break down and form a sticky substance on the surface of the figure. Simply opening your figures and taking them out of the box prevents this from happening. If you happen to find plasticizer goo on one of your figures, Kahotan has a handy guide for dealing with it.
  • Unlike some other figure markets, keeping an anime figure sealed won’t raise its value by a whole lot. In fact, because of the plasticizer problem mentioned above, your figure could actually be in better condition if you open it versus keeping it sealed.

Finding the Right Figure(s) for You

16. What are "scales" and "prizes"? What is the difference between them?
Those are classifications for figures based on a few factors.
  • "Prizes" are generally more simply produced figures which are intended to be given as prizes for playing arcade games. They are inexpensive and lack the detail of scale figures, though some prize figure lines have standouts which may approach lower-end scales in quality. That is uncommon and often depends on the individual figure.
  • "Scales" are called such because they are nominally designed to be proportional to the dimensions of the character which they are based on. They are generally of much better manufacture and materials than prize figures, allowing for more detail in painting, accessories, or complex poses.
  • "Trading" figures appear in gashapon machines or as blind boxes on shop counters, often as sets which include multiple characters. As suggested by the class name, the randomness encourages trading. They are usually very inexpensively-produced, though as with prizes, some series are better than others.
  • "Non-scale" encompasses a variety of other categories. It is often used to describe poseable figure lines such as figma and Nendoroids.
In recent years producers such as Good Smile Company attempted to further bridge the gap between prize quality and scales by introducing figure lines which are intended to be moderately-priced while retaining a higher level of detail than the typical prize figure, to varying levels of success.
17. There are so many figure companies! Who makes good figures?!
Obviously this is a very subjective question, but as a general starting point, here are a few well renowned figure companies:
  • Alter
  • Max Factory
  • Good Smile Company
  • Kotobukiya (usually hit or miss for people. Use your best judgement based off of the prototype)
  • Flare
  • Stronger
18. I really love “series X / character X”- how can I check if any figures were ever made for it?
My Figure Collection can be your best friend here. Simply do a search on the name of the series or character using the search bar located at the top right of the screen, and all associated figures pop up!
Alternatively, if you’re looking at a figure’s MFC entry, most of the text under the “Details” section can be clicked on and used to run a search.
19. How can I commission a custom figure?
None of the major figure companies (Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, etc.) will take a commission for a single figure. This thread has a few websites in it that you can check out, or you can look into garage kits. Some kit painters would be willing to resculpt, frankenstein together, or otherwise modify kits for the right price.
If you're looking for help completing a garage kit, /brushforhire may be useful.

Keeping Up with New Announcements

20. How can I keep up with figure news (announcements, updates, etc.)?
Most people use a MFC combined with any or all of the following news sites:
Many figure companies are active on Twitter, so following them there is recommended for quicker news.
To use MFC for this I’ll quote question #9.
Most companies have one or more Twitter accounts. Some examples: Good Smile Company sales, Good Smile's USA branch, Max Factory, AmiAmi Hobby News.
21. Everyone’s excited about something called Wonfes….. what the heck is that?!
WonFes (short for Wonder Festival) is a biannual figure expo where many figure producers (both large and small) show off new sculpts and updates to figures already under way. Most companies save their most exciting announcements for WonFes, so we all look forward to the expo whenever it rolls around! Winter Wonder Festival is usually held in February, while Summer Wonder Festival is usually in July. The event has also spread to Shanghai, in the late spring.
22. One or two (or 15) figures were announced at WonFes that I’m really excited about! How can I keep track of their progress once the event is over?
MFC is always really quick about getting new WonFes announcements (or any others throughout the year, for that matter) listed in their database, so we suggest using that. To find a figure from the event you can search any number of things, including the name of the character or the name of the show. You can also use the tag search to search “WonderFestival 20xx_[season]” to see all items announced at that event.

Really enjoyed writing Ashe, but didn't like the title or how short it was and wanted to expand upon it. So I C/Ped the extremely short chapter here, made a lot changes, and resumed where I left off. So this is the new and official Chapter 1\. Changed the title too! Once this goes up, I might just delete* Ashe altogether we'll see. Until then, here's another for you guys. A proper chapter. Longer too. Back on the computer, so that's fun. Enjoy!*
Title subject to change!
Read Ashe here (unless it's gone lol): https://www.reddit.com/HFY/comments/13mkfre/comment/jkvjcro/?context=3
///
The dead stare of a long-disintegrated child looked up at them. Remnants frozen in time as a monument of ruin to the wasteland before her. A lifeless, shattered. Echos of what used to be. It used to beautiful. Maybe in memory, it stays there. Isolated, but perfect. Perhaps, in another lifetime, they could have considered such a sight tragic.
But now? Now, it was simply a byproduct. One of many at that.
Oblivion wondered if it was a form of hypocrisy. To care for their own children, the ones they were responsible for feeding and caring for. The very same children who required the life-filling nutritional energy only essence, only Souls, could provide in sufficient quantity and quality. At least, until they found a long-term alternative. How then, was it fair, that they could stare into the monuments of ash and brimstone without remorse? To sleep well in the void of space as the killed world after world? To render galaxies extinct and universes as little more than drifting debris of dead space?
As it turned out, Oblivion didn't care to find the answer.
In truth, they didn't actually care to answer a question they'd already established an answer for. The thought experiment was simply that. An experiment. Something to do, at best. The attention upkeep for a Living Extinction class such as themself rarely warranted such self-scrutiny, but times could be dull, seeing as the bare minimum of effort that it took to kill planet after planet after planet bore no grief to their heart not any guilt over the lives violently ripped away.
"Yo." A voice cried out. In response, the bored decimator tilted their head up to see their one and only partner hovering above them, floating in the shattered sky just a few feet above. They wondered if it was weird to take note that their friend's feet were remarkably clean. "You okay?"
Oblivion nodded. Their eyes glazed back down at the ashen remains of the child. It's face frozen in fear, their dreams, hopes and ideas dashed away. All so that their own children could have dreams, hopes and ideas on their own. Cataclysm, their partner, drifted down next to the standing red-skinned killer. Both Soul Rippers stood side-by-side amidst a lifeless chunk of what used to be Callus II, a world once renowned for its natural beauty. Destroying it hadn't actual yielded much Soulfood, or essence, as it was already halfway evacuated before their arrival. But once they did arrive, escape was impossible, not that it stopped the local resistance from, well, resisting. No, the planet's destruction was intended to damage moral moreso than it was to yield any form of "economic" bounty. Not that it didn't of course, food was food afterall, but it was an already sparsely populated planet. Since it was strongly suggested that the destruction of Callus II would cause significant unrest, maybe even rebellion in the remaining population centers, Oblivion figured it only fair they do their duty. Hence, another byproduct of a looong list that kept expanding, unlikely to end anytime soon.
"We got new orders from the ladies up top. Wanna guess what?" Oblivion's head tilted up, eyes gleaming with a current of curiosity. She gestured with her hand towards the broken debris scattered about. Of a long-dead world around them.
Cataclysm smirked as she shook her head. "Nah, nothin' too crazy. Got something new this time." She paused. 'Word is... we got allies now. Real, honest folks that wanna, and get this, work with us this time around."
A frown creased the white-haired woman's features. She turned to look at her partner's increasingly grinning expression.
Oblivion asked the obvious question without words. Mute as she was, it'd taken some time for Cataclysm to get a proper read on her partner's flow with any accuracy. Maybe it was because she was one of the not-quite-insignificant few that carried whatever gene caused the highbreds to be amquadsinistrous instead of the standard amquaddextrious. Which, naturally, caused her childhood to be filled with more than a few hiccups when you're a part of a species that heralds 4 arms to 1 torso. But the challenge was welcomed. It allowed her to be the Soul Ripper she is today. Her upper-hand twirled its index finger into a speedy frenzy, purple Vydent energy streaming from the tip into a swirling tight ball barely half the size of her thumb. The casual level of control over her Vydent flow made Cataclysm's partner wonder if it was weird that they noticed that, in addition to her feet, their friend's nails were also very clean.
Oblivion, for her part, remained focused on the current revelation. Confused at their friend's wording more than anything. Vassals that chose submission, to forgo their freedom and independence and live as official dependence of the Highbred Collective was the standard play-by-play. The trade-off, of course, being that in exchange for willingly allowing oneself to live as, essentially, glorified cattle for food and breeding purposes for denizens the Highbred Collective, the said cattle, referred to as thralls, would be legally protected under relatively well-regulated supervision and oversight in order to protect both their privacy and livelihood. The Gyfolten Principle in particular ensured, under extremely strict law and application, that humane treatment be provided in abundance for all enthralled vassals, unless otherwise specified by the vassals themselves. It was one of the very few choices offered to any and all opposition they defeated, excluding special exceptions naturally. The decision to live was choice often preferred, typically over those whose only other option was watch hard-won territories be conquered, captured, destroyed or a mixture of all three.
That was the only form 'allies' her people took. For a species to be able enter an honest partnership with the highbred race was... nearly unheard of.
Only one race had ever managed such a feat, and they were long extinct. The white-haired decimator pointed as her own head in a clawing motion, its question clear.
"Nope, not enthrallment." Cataclysm responded, still grinning even when she popped the 'P'. "Like I said. Full on allyship. Partners even!" The excitement in her voice was evident. Almost infectious. Oblivion's frown only deepened, confusion warring with contemplation before her eyes suddenly widened as the realization hit her. Cataclysm took the moment to mentally pat herself on the back for being able to translate the powerful mute's particular form of communication.
"Yep. There it is. It's aaaallll over your face BeeBee. No thralls, no vassals, no crazy shit. We got ourselves real volunteers this time around. People who wanna actually negotiate and even talk with us. Heh, three guesses as to who just got sattled to provide 'security' for the upcoming 'diplomatic mission'." She used air-quotes. "And the first two don't count."
Oblivion blinked.
Somehow, her partner's smile split her face even wider, a dance of mischievousness flashed through her glowing purple beacons. She slowly started to rise higher into the ruined sky moments later.
"Well! Guess you'll just have to fiiiind out when we get there. Planet we're going to is called 'Earth' by rest of the galaxy. So... ready for a lil' road trip?" /// The journey to Earth was a rather uneventful.
Surrounding her was a comfortable dome of dark red vydent energy, solidified into a comfortable hardlight seat that was easy on the eyes. It surrounded her like those capsules she'd seen on TV, forming both a protective barrier between herself and the vacuum of space as they traveled through FTL. Spacious too. She even had a nice comfy pillow and the 'chair' reclined as high or low as she pleased.
So, while uneventful, it most certainly a comfortable experience.
Pinelock was their assigned Solar Soother, an Energizer whose sole job was to provide speedy and smooth transportation for Decimators like Oblivion and herself when they didn't want to enter FTL themselves. Cataclysm remembered being in such a role eons ago, using her own vydent energy to ferry bigger and better Decimators from star system to star system. It paid decently, but she wasn't in it for the essence. The job was, at best, a luxury afforded for the powerful. Like being a limousine driver for an excessively wealthy businessman. It helped her connect with those powerful killers back in the day, helped her better understand their motivations beyond the barebone necessity of "kill or be killed".
With that thought in mind, the blonde Soul Ripper made a mental reminder to tip their chauffeur when they arrived at Earth as she leaned back into the provided pillow. Just as her eyes closed, she began thinking about her partner.
She remembered feeling incredibly nervous when upon first meeting her. The stories surrounding the then average Soul Ripper, wondering which ones were true and which ones were just hearsay from her various obsessors. Oblivion was a living legend, both inside and out. A genius and warrior both in fact. Back then, Cataclysm admired their tenacity. She read their info-profile. How Oblivion heralded many obsessors in her early days, rising to prominence primarily through utilizing some seriously impressive enthrallment tactics, drowning her would-be killers in a sea of bodies by utilizing some prolific insect race to force them to expend their vydent energy reserves. After that, it was a simple matter of killing off whatever opposition remained, though mercifully chose to personally spare or adopt many of the children of the deceased. All-in-all, it was a typical power story, up until the moment the Red Bastion, the main governing body of Highbred at the time, attempted to recruit her to their cause once she'd grown beyond their means of subjugation. And when their efforts ended in futility, Oblivion remained standing, the Red Bastion did not. Without leadership, the remaining populace moved on, formed their own groups, established a new primary Obelisk of Dominion, and the events were eventually relegated to the history logs. Whatever obsessors didn't try to outright kill the white-haired Soul Ripper decided to become dedicated housewives, pledging their hearts and mind to Oblivion and only her. Which was standard Obsessor behavior. What got her popular was the sheer volume of subsequent Supplicants that followed, asking to join her harem. Oblivion declined, of course, but the aftermath of so many offers are ultimately what rocketed her to the position she has today.
"A relatively bloodless rise to power really." Cataclysm though to herself. "Though I gotta wonder how she felt back then. What made her want to be a Soul Ripper in the first place? And why?" Even today, Cataclysm still didn't know. It was one of the few things she decided she'd have to be okay with never knowing. Over the years, as their bond grew, she thought she had a pretty good grasp on why her partner did what she did back then. But in truth? She still had no clue. And likely never would. What she figured she should know, however, is a little information on the race they were visiting. The humans of planet Earth.
"Speak?" Oblivion's voice gently echoed in the blonde Soul Ripper's mindscape, her voice somehow a whisper carried with all the authority of a command. But it was a genuine question, and Cataclysm was happy to answer honestly. She was a master at filling in the gaps by now. "Well, you just did, but shoot. What's on that mind o' yours?"
It was always an exceptionally rare moment with an even shorter timeframe that Oblivion chose to speak, and even when they did it was always, always through their telepathic connection. So, whenever they did offer to speak, Cataclysm vowed to always make time to truly listen. And as she waited for the powerful decimator to speak their piece, the blonde Soul Ripper also found herself wondering about the new world they would be shortly arriving at. About what made this 'Earth' so special. And most importantly, what made its denizens so different from the rest of the galaxy?
For the first time in a long time, Cataclysm knew she finally had something to look forward to.

2023.06.08 00:25 Lik3rawr Can someone check my math.

Can someone check my math.
I’m dyslexic so I didn’t learn much in school, so I did this on my own for a garden fence. It’s 3 feet 8 inches tall and 4 feet 1 inch across. I watched a few YouTube videos and used a square root calculator online. Don’t know if the feet and inches were converted to decimals properly. Thanks if anyone can help.

Over-designed 3D Printer Table
The 3D printer subreddit suggested a heavy duty table. I went overboard. The table weighs about 150 lbs. Plywood, paint, oak, rubber non-skid mat on top. The casters are ratcheting, lifting the wheels off the ground.
I like the paint - General Finishes Enduro Black Poly - but the person running the sprayer needs more practice.
The top is made of two layers of MDF sandwiched between two layers of plywood. I put the whole thing in a vacuum bag during glue-up. The legs were plywood mortise and through tenon from a workbench design I saw on Fine Woodworking. There are holes in the inner box for screws, but I covered them with Fastcap sticky hole things.
I painted the parts before assembly, masking off the mortises and tenons. I had to fill in the outside of the through mortises once assembled and then painted the outside of the legs.
It was tricky getting the parts to fit in multiple dimensions. I did lots of micro-shavings on the table saw to get things to fit right.
I had to drill deep holes to get the screws to reach the needed distance. I first did a pilot hole with Rockler's vertical hole drilling jig, then use an extra long bit (too long for the Rockler jig) to go the rest of the way, then used the final sized bit from both sides of the hole to get the proper width. The screws to attach the table top were 5 3/4 inches.
Masked off for final painting

2023.06.08 00:16 ralo_ramone An Otherworldly Scholar [LitRPG, Isekai] - Chapter 11

The Great Hall stood tall against the cloudy day, expelling white smoke from the multiple chimneys on its thatched roof. The outer walls made of a dark gray stone and the overall brutalistic style of the building, gave the Great Hall a certain ‘Big Bad Evil Guy’s lair’ vibe. Upon further inspection, I noticed traces of mana weaved in between the stone which made me wonder if the whole building had some sort of protecting enchantment in place. It made sense considering the whole town was a bastion between the Farlands and the Ebros Kingdom.
Despite my initial assessment of the city, Farcrest’s marketplace flourished all around me. Food, weapons, tools, all kinds of crafting ingredients. No matter what direction I looked I found new things to identify. Other than the abandoned northern district, the city looked like a bustling trade center.
I continued walking through the street market towards the Great Hall.
Red banners with the Marquis crest, a man killing a wolf with a lance, hung from the inner walls. The gate was guarded by a small contingent of soldiers dressed in shiny armor and armed with long albarests. I was tempted to use [Identify] on them but remembering Elincia’s reaction, I refrained from doing it. I didn’t want problems before even starting my life in this world.
As I reached the closed gate, a guard blocked my path.
“What is your business in the Marquis’s Great Hall?” The guardsman asked, glancing at me with unfriendly eyes. The man inspected my appearance from head to toe and he didn’t seem to like what he was seeing. My clothing was humble to say the least.
“My name is Robert Clarke, Scholar from the City of Light. I’m here for a passage permit into the Kingdom of Ebros.” I said with a haughty voice. A good teacher was, in essence, a good actor, and I took pride in my classroom management.
As expected, my words seemed to pique the guard’s interest.
“Farcrest isn’t a border town, Scholar. How did you even enter the kingdom?”
The guard was unsure if he was really talking to a commoner or someone of high birth. Or maybe he thought I was a high level individual? It made sense that people with higher levels looked down on the weaker.
Considering Elincia’s reaction to the story about the teletransportation, I decided to continue with the same lie. If I had to guess, portals weren’t all strange in this world.
“A magic accident teleported me into the Farlands. There I was picked up by an Alchemist harvesting ingredients who brought me here to Farcrest.” I explained with a serious tone.
“Should’ve said that from the very beginning… sir. Portal magic is no joke.” He stuttered.
The guard swallowed the story.
“It is not.” I nodded.
The guard must’ve assumed I was the one responsible for the portal incident because his demeanor changed instantly. If I had to guess, portal magic was a high level technique.
“This way, sir.” The guardsman said, guiding me through a lateral door at the base of the wall and into a narrow and dark corridor. As much as I wanted to enter through the main gates, I assumed it wasn’t worth opening it for a single person.
We emerged into a cobbled courtyard by the side of the Great Hall where a small army of workers unloaded carts with crated goods under the attentive glance of an overseer. Regrettably, I couldn’t tell what was inside the heavy boxes.
“Trade seems to be healthy considering Farcrest is a frontier town.” I pointed out in a vain attempt to make the guard talk.
“It’s been that way for a while now.” He sparsely replied as we walked to a wooden building attached to the Great Hall. Outside the building, an angry middle aged woman dressed in a gambeson with the Marquis emblem was training a group of fresh recruits who barely knew how to hold a sword. The kids couldn’t be much older than Zaon.
Instead of walking towards the building, we approached the training group.
The soldier saluted and the woman knight raised her hand, stopping the frenetic swinging of the recruits. Her eyes were of a stark gray color and her lips were a fine line under her aquiline nose. Her skin was tanned and covered in small scars of a hundred battles. [Awareness] told me she was the don’t-fuck-with-me type.
“Captain, this man says he arrived at Farcrest via failed teleportation.” The soldier explained my situation.
“Another one?! I can’t believe this is the second time this year.” The Captain chastised the soldier as if it was his personal fault. Then, she turned around to face me. She was taller than me and her rolled up sleeves not only revealed lean and bulking muscles but a skin covered in scars. Those weren’t fashionable superficial scars but ones which distorted the skin and muscle.
“Tell me you are not from the Ansan Kingdom. It will cost us a small fortune to send you back.” The Captain said.
I understood that was my cue to speak.
“My name is Robert Clarke, a Scholar, and you don’t need to send me back to my homeland, Captain. I am more interested in traveling to the Imperial Library than returning.” I said with a small bow.
“I’m Captain Izabeka Kiln, leader of the city guard. I like you already, Scholar. People who complicate things are too common in these places.” The captain left the bundle of parchment and walked around the table to inspect me closely.
I made a mental note to not complicate things in front of the woman.
“Come on.” The captain left the group of disoriented recruits behind and walked towards the Great Hall. “We have to ensure you don’t have any suspicious hidden titles before giving you your passage permit.”
“Hidden titles?” I asked with a tremble in my voice.
“You have not been in a System Shrine before?” The Captain looked over her shoulder and gave me a confused glance.
I shook my head. Hidden titles could mean two things; there was a method to hide one’s titles from being identified or there were titles that could only be unlocked at a System Shrine. The second option made sense considering the lack of progress my class had even after twelve levels.
“I warn you, Robert Clarke, I’m a level fifty seven Knight, if you do try anything stupid I’ll crush your spine before you could even blink.” The captain said before addressing the guard who had guided me there. “You, maggot, look after the Scholar’s belongings. He is my guest.”
“Yes, ma’am.” The soldier said, extending his hand to me.
I gave him my backpack and nobody questioned the suspicious wooden shotgun butt protruding out. I felt naked without my weapon, however, the shells were safe inside my pocket.
“You don’t have a suspicious title do you?” The captain asked as we entered a beautifully adorned corridor with painted murals and ornamental banners hanging from the ceiling. The decoration was surprisingly tasteful.
I swallowed hard.
“I don’t think so?” I replied, remembering what Elincia had told me about locked titles.
We walked in silence through a carpeted corridor. The brass-framed windows reached the high ceiling and gave us a wide view of the interior gardens. There was a bush maze, fountains and clumps of all kinds of flowers.
We reached a glass door to a crowded balcony and the captain signaled the guards to let us through. On the balcony there were men and women dressed in expensive suits and dresses of vibrant colors. Broad rings of gold and precious stones adorned the noble’s hands while the women flaunted beautiful necklaces and earrings. If the Marquis was there, he was hidden among the crowd.
Captain Kiln took me to the side of the balcony, far from the noble clump and pointed down to the garden. Two men dressed in fencing attire were standing at opposite sides of the garden while the squires helped them with their padded jackets. In the middle of the fighting area an old man with braided hair and stern look acted as the referee.
“Have you witnessed a judiciary duel before?” The captain asked.
I shook my head.
“Then it’s your lucky day, Scholar. Sir Janus insulted Baronette Tirno during the last feast.” Captain Kiln said with a lupine smile.
“What did Sir Janus say?” I inquired.
“Janus said Tirno’s lovers during their days in the Ebros Knights Academy looked just like his mother.” Captain Kiln let out a tired sigh.
I glanced down at the dueling area. Baronette Tirno was a tall and slender young man of blonde curls and piercing looks. He wore a blue and black jacket with a crest similar to the Marquis symbol, so I assumed he might be related to the Marquis. Tirno moved with ease under the padded jacket and made a flourish with his rapier before blowing a kiss to the balcony. The gesture was answered by a wave of giggles and sighs.
For someone with a soiled honor, he was enjoying the moment.
Sir Janus, on the other hand, was a brutish looking man with the physique of a beer barrel. An unkempt bristly black beard covered his face and his small black eyes resembled the ones from a pig. Janus looked more like a well-armed murder hobo than a knight.
“Tirno has the reach advantage.” I said as the squire handed the rapiers to Janus.
“Good, you can use your eyes.” Captain Kiln said and I wondered if every woman had a similar level of sass in this world.
The referee, an old man dressed in a white and yellow tunic, stood at the center of the arena and cast a spell creating a golden dome of twenty meters in diameter. A second later the dome became translucent, barely blocking the view of the duelists.
“He’s a Fortifier. Any skill used inside the area of the bubble should stay inside instead of killing you. Well, none of them have magic classes but with high level combatants any extra precaution is welcome.” Captain Kiln explained.
Down inside the bubble, Tirno and Janus walked five paces away from the center, turned around, and saluted with the rapiers. Then, they adopted a fighting position I wasn’t completely familiarized with. It seemed they were going to start sprinting instead of fencing.
A sudden gust of wind rose, kicking up a dust cloud, and Tirno disappeared just to reappear by Janus’ flank. I gasped. Had he used a skill or was it his natural speed? Janus raised his sword and parried just in time. Then I noticed my mouth was wide open.
“Want to bet?” Captain Kiln asked with an entertained expression on her face.
“I don’t have money or valuables other than a quarter cheese wheel.” I babbled back, too entranced with the fight to pay attention to the woman.
The captain slid a silver coin down the railing and left it in front of me. I recognized a gambling addict that shouldn’t be gambling when I saw one. I glanced at the coin and then I looked down at the arena. The duelists were still testing each other. Baronette Tirno had an elegant style with quick transitions and nimble footwork. Sir Janus, on the other hand, stood like a heavy boulder in the middle of the yard.
“Two silver coins and I will tell you exactly how Lord Tirno is going to lose.” I said with a taunting smile.
The captain’s interest was piqued and soon after there were two silver coins in front of me and another two in front of the woman.
“I love to fleece know-it-all Scholars.” The captain said despite the fact she was betting against her own money.
I ignored the banter and focused on the duel. After the initial explosion of speed things had slowed down. Still, they moved faster than any HEMA practitioner or olympic fencer I had seen in my life.
I remembered Zaon talking about class growth. It wasn’t a surprise that the kid was apprehensive of becoming a Soldier when there were classes that could move like those two men. Not even with my Lv.5 [Swordsmanship] was enough to reach those speeds.
[Awareness] filled my brain with information. Tirno fought with deliberately elegant movements trying to find an opening on the opponent’s defense while Janus adopted a style similar to what I knew; he tried to control Tirno’s sword and deliver a strike without jeopardizing his own safety.
“Sir Janus is going to end the fight by stabbing the Baronette in the hand.” I calmly said, channeling all my fencing knowledge. Judicial fencing wasn’t about killing your opponent, although it happened frequently, but about incapacitating it before it could harm you.
“Alright, I’m going for Tirno.” The Captain said.
The balcony was in complete silence. Rapiers clashed, but none managed to control the weak of the opponent's blade to create an opening. The amount of stamina both men displayed was astounding, even compared to top tier athletes from Earth. If I were to train for a hundred years I could hardly reach their levels of speed and coordination.
Suddenly Lord Tirno put aside all attempts of defending and lunged forward, aiming at the center of Sir Janus’ chest. Sir Janus stepped back with a nimbleness uncharacteristic of a man of his span. To get away from Tirno’s blade, Janus raised both arms and pulled back his body. In that awkward position, Sir Janus counterattacked with a downward stab aimed at Lord Tirno’s hand and withdrew from the engagement to avoid Tirno’s afterblow.
However, the afterblow didn’t come. Lord Tirno’s sword fell to the ground as the man bursted out cursing. As he retreated to his side of the arena, I caught a glimpse of bright blood flowing from his right hand.
New word learned!
Words learned: 3,001/215,000
Rank: Talkative Teenager
I made a mental note to not mention that word in front of children.
“I lost.” Captain Kiln sighed, bringing me back to the present.
“Not yet, he’s going to continue. Look.” I replied as Lord Tirno’s aid bandaged the wounded hand. The noble man snapped at the squire to hurry up but no matter how much bandages he applied, they quickly soaked in more blood. Suddenly, sick of waiting, Lord Tirno pushed his squire back and retrieved the sword.
“It’s over.” Captain Kiln sighed again.
Down in the garden, Sir Janus repeatedly hit Tirno’s blade until it slipped from his bloody hand. Then Janus prompted his rival to retrieve his sword just to repeat the process. Three times Tirno raised his sword and three times Janus slapped it from his hand.
“What a shitshow.” Captain Kiln grunted just as Sir Janus disarmed Lord Tirno for the last time and chased him across the garden hitting the Baronette’s legs with the rapier’s flat side until he found shelter inside the Great Hall.
Sir Janus took a bow towards the balcony and threw his sword in the squire’s direction. The Captain slid four silver coins to my side of the handrail.
“Better spanked than dead.” I pointed out, pocketing the coins with a winning smile on my face.
“Sir Janus is a lowborn who reached knighthood because he was accepted in the Ebros Knights Academy. His position in the court is frail and yet he acts like an idiot.”
The squires cleared the garden and the nobles who had been observing the duel started vacating the balcony. I learned a couple more insults from overhearing their conversation, some of the nobles were fuming and I pictured them plotting against Sir Janus in the near future. A hurt noble’s ego was dangerous in this world or the other.
“Abei!” The captain suddenly called.
An old robbed man emerged from the group, clearly annoyed by the interruption.
“What is it, captain?”
The man had a shining bald head and a majestically bushy beard. Unlike the young man from the tower, Abei didn’t look like a cheap street magician but a full fledged sage.
“We have one of those portal hoppers. A Scholar.” Captain Kiln announced. “I thought you would be interested.”
In a single sentence, Abei’s face was cleared of all irritation. The old man made his way through the balcony with an eager stride and, unlike the captain, didn’t bother to measure me up with his eyes. Instead he jumped directly to the questions.
“Where are you from and how did you get here, young man?” Abei struck me like the kind of person who would look into a loaded shotgun’s barrel to satiate his curiosity.
“I’m Robert Clarke, humble servant of the City of Light. I arrived here due to a teletransportation accident.” I introduced myself, already expecting what will come next. The questioning.
“The City of Light? Never heard of that place.” Abei stroked his beard and looked around searching for an encyclopedia just to remember he was outdoors.
“And I never heard of Farcrest until I popped out here.” I replied with a shrug.
Abei nodded, understanding my predicament.
“You don’t seem to be scared for someone so far from home.” The man looked me directly in the eye. I was slowly getting used to being questioned.
“Three days in the Farlands is a hell of a cure for fear.” I replied.
The Captain gave me an approving nod. People of this world trusted too much in the System and too little in the common sense.
“Why am I being treated with such deference? I'm nobody after all.” I asked, eliciting a jolly laugh from the old man and I braced myself for a long story.
“People who are exposed to teletransportation spells usually are wealthy, noble or high level, so it's only logical to protect such individuals when the integrity of the kingdoms depends on them.” Abei explained. “Anyway, we need noble witnesses to grant you the permit. Let’s go to the audience room.” The man added as he invited me through the glass door into the Great Hall.
Before I could cross the doorway, Captain Kiln grabbed my arm and stopped me.
“Just don’t do anything stupid and things will go well. Understood?” The woman asked with a stern voice.
“Understood.” I replied, knowing perfectly well that doing stupid things, like jumping heads on into a dangerous world full of magic creatures, was exactly my specialty.

2023.06.08 00:14 anaestaaqui Delphinium Help

Delphinium Help
Part 1) I bought 4 fordhook delphinium from burpee, they came and were about 4 big leaves each. I planted them per the instructions. They appear happy and healthy but they’re soo small. Only leaves and about 6 inches tall. I dream of big big beautiful delphinium. Will they take off and bloom this year?
Part 2) I bought bare roots from the local store and planted per the instructions. It’s been almost 2 months and I haven’t seen a single green piece pop up. I emailed the company and said it can take 4-6 weeks to break dormancy. Am I just being impatient?
Part 3) how can I make sure next year to acquire and have a big patch of giant beautiful delphiniums? I started seeds inside and followed the instructions and every single one that popped up died so I do not know if starting from seeds is in the cards for me.
Part 4) I tried my local nurseries and no one had the style I want in stock. I did buy 3 that are the Siberian to add diversity to my flower bed and made a patch for them. But they aren’t where my heart is. My heart wants giant delphinium for the romantic cottage garden
Picture is my front flower bed. My home is a new build so everything is brand new this spring.
TLDR: easiest/ best method to have giant beautiful delphiniums!!

2023.06.08 00:11 AceSpitfire- [WTS] AUGs/Vector/SR-25/1911A1/M4 Midcaps/M4 PMAGs/Plate Carrier/Pouches

Up for sale are two Semi-Boneyard AUGs, a Krytac Vector, a Boneyard SR-25, an Elite Force 1911A1, a plate carrier, and various pouches. All sold as is, though I would be willing to provide a test video of the AUG and Vector upon request (Price may be lowered if the guns do not work correctly). As for the 1911A1 I do not have CO2 (Price will reflect this). I am willing to negotiate a price, but will not accept low balls. The 1911A1 will come in its original box if I still have it. Buyer pays shipping. Happy to answer questions.
PICTURES (Timestamp not required due to flair)
Prices:
  1. Semi-Boneyard AUGS - $105/Each
  2. Vector - $375
  3. Boneyard SR-25 - $135
  4. 1911A1 - $60
  5. M4 BAMF Midcaps - $7
  6. M4 Lancer Midcaps - $10
  7. M4 PMAG - $20
  8. KWA M4 PMAG - $35
  9. Plate Carrier - $65
  10. Dump Pouch - $10
  11. Admin Pouch - $25
Semi-Boneyard AUGs ($105 + Shipping/Each) - So I'm not sure what brand makes each of these AUGs (ASG I believe), they function and come with 2 mags a piece (The same type of magazine as pictured in the AUGs). I have swapped the various receivers between each AUG and verified that each works. I personally have never fielded them, just bought them from this subreddit, verified that they work, and put them on the shelf. Some notes to consider:
Price is $125 + Shipping per AUG. I believe they MSRP for ~$165-200 on Evike (Low-High). If you buy both, I will go to $180 + Shipping.
Krytac Kriss Vector ($375) - Krytac Kriss Vector. Comes with one magazine, the flashlight, grip, and sights pictured on the gun. I bought this from someone on this subreddit and used it for like an hour. It has some upgrades (longer barrel and some others I think) and has a chrono tag from a previous owner that reads around 330 fps. The gun functions well. Only issue would be a missing charging handle spring. The spring does not affect the function of the gun outside of having to manually return the charging handle when it is pulled back. Its function was purely aesthetic. A replacement can also be purchased on Evike. Price is $375 + Shipping, the gun MSRPs for like ~$490 on Evike.
Boneyard SR-25 ($135) - Originally a semi-boneyard A&K SR-25 I bought from someone on this subreddit. When I received it, the motor was pretty much shot (Still fired a little bit) and the stock was cracked. It was meant to be a project gun, so I spray painted it and removed the pistol grip, motor, and stock. Never got around to messing with it. Currently it is just the body of the gun, the scope and the gearbox. I'm not sure what other parts I have lying around, but I may be able to find some stuff. The gun MSRPs for around ~$300 on Evike, but mine is boneyard and would need some work. I will give it up for around $135.
Elite Force 1911A1 ($60) - Elite Force 1911A1. The gun comes with one magazine and the paddle holster pictured. I purchased this gun from a store a very long time ago and used it a lot since. The gun has extensive cosmetic damage from heavy use. The gun works, last time I checked. I additionally brought it to a shop and had them replace most of the internals (Full Auto Airsoft) and have used it once since then. Upon request I can include a baggie with extra parts. The price is $60 + Shipping. The gun MSRPs on Evike for ~$130.
M4 Midcap Magazines ($7/Each for Generic Mags $10/Each for Lancer Mags$20 for PMag$35 for KWA Pmag) - Various M4 Magazines. Most bought second hand, I do have a couple PMags to sell though. M4 magazines usually go for around $10-$15 on Evike. I'll sell each generic midcap for $7. I do not know the cap, but they should all be midcaps. If you buy 5 mags at least, I'll give you one of equal or lesser value for free (While I can).
Plate Carrier and Pouches ($65 for PC$10 for Dump Pouch$20 for Admin Pouch) - Decent plate carrier and pouches, I do not know the brands. I used the plate carrier and dump pouch a bit, the admin pouch was used basically once. Plate carrier is decently comfortable, and comes with triple double stacked mag pouches. I think I bought the plate carrier for around $110, the dump pouch for around $20 and the admin pouch for like $30. I'm selling at a large discount, I just do not use the gear anymore.

2023.06.08 00:06 fuckoffpleasehaha everything i think that could be improved, new ideas

other improvements and ideas welcomed!!!!
i hate that you can't talk to osana during the walk around to learn her opinions to give her the cat charm. it makes her inhuman and is also not realistic
raibaru should be easier to distract. she's still a teenager, not a robot.
i dont quite care for how the buttons work, especially for setting up door traps and getting back phones. moving my camera around 12 times for the buttons to pop up makes me want to start the genocide ending.
the evesdropping is dumb. getting pissed for someone listening to your convo when you're talking in public? christ. (if i get -10 rep for listening to osana gush about her type of man again im going to use the sans easter egg on her and raibaru.) and it definitely shouldn't make our rep go down. only thing i understand is the call and the vent convo.
the socializing system just looks dumb, i think the compliments were better, but if it was 'too easy' to gain rep, maybe we could've had choices on what to compliment. if we compliment the wrong thing they wouldn't care or they would think it's weird.
you should still be able to lock pick the nurse cabinet in 20xx mode.
i think you should be able to rejoin clubs, like after a few days or a week.
let us go into town even if we kidnapped someone. like before we go to sleep it will give us the cutscene.
different ways to make money.
update skin tones and other customization for senpai + female senpai. i want lesbians!!!!
better club benefits. art club literally let's you get away with blood on you, and drama disguises you AND you can get fingerprints on weapons. (expand on this at the end)
better matchmaking. more options, more compliments, make conversation, set up dates, all that. — matchmaking outside of rivals, but make them like 1980s. time consuming, but will eventually make the game easier. like how if you do gemas task, the bullies stay there and free up the halls.
bloody clothes in hands doesn't get you caught by the student council. (this just happened to me. killed someone in the martial arts uniform and was going to wash it and got caught. barely any blood on it.)
bags you can buy for more space at school (tote bags, etc)
more eliminations!!! not totally rival specific but i'm just tired of the same stuff. like 1. 'tripping' down stairs 2. shower electrocution 3. water trap electrocution (that's not a thing, right?). 4. sneaking into houses for elimination.
more non lethal eliminations!!
  1. making rival 'realize' she doesn't like senpai.

2023.06.08 00:01 Altruistic-North7886 Am i pregnant?

hé fingered me and i jerked him off (not to the point where he ejaculated) but i’m scared some pre has gotten into my V. After that he fingered my behind as prep for us to do unprotected anal, we did that and he did not ejaculate in me, but i’m still scared some pre has managed to get into it. The next day i came onto my period which wasn’t meant to come for another 3 days, last months period i was 4 days late but this month i’m 3-4 days early. This time i recieved extreme cramps and i’m still on my period now (day 4) and it’s been heavy this whole time. could i still be pregnant?

2023.06.08 00:01 Gingerinotrio Thrifty tips & tricks

I'm reading more and more that a lot of us here are SAH because the cost of childcare has made being a working parent unviable. But with the rising cost of living, staying home with our kids isn't enough to ease the financial burden either. So I wanted to share some of the ways that I am embracing frugality.
For context I live in NZ, and we are a family of 3. We own our own home with a mortgage, and have room for a vegetable garden. My husband makes a good wage, but these days that is not enough.
  1. We buy our vegetables through a local food rescue program called Wonky Box. Before that we bought through a co-op. We don't get to pick our vegetables, but it's way cheaper than buying from a supermarket.
  2. We grow season vegetables to supplement what comes in the delivery.
  3. Our power company gives free off-peak power hours, or does a thing called power shout. Tomorrow I'm using up the 5 free hours of power shout so I can make slow-roasted lamb. At the same time I will do 2 loads of laundry, make granola, and put a casserole in the slow cooker. I will also charge all our devices.
  4. Using the microwave or stove is cheaper than the oven. So I try to make as much as I can on the hob, or cook multiple meals in the oven at once, and freeze one to reheat in the microwave another day.
  5. We buy large cuts of meat on special and stretch it across multiple meals. The leftover lamb tomorrow will become two meat pies.
  6. We cloth nappy a couple of days a week. It saves on disposable nappies, without adding too much washing to our week.
  7. When I'm feeling super frugal, I use a whistling kettle that we have for camping on our wood burner instead of using the electric kettle.
  8. Free baby programs. We go to a lot of free programs at the library or run by churches. It gets us out without costing much.
I hope that helps some of us, especially if (like me) you've been used to affording convenience. And if you have tips, please share them.

2023.06.08 00:00 EnvironmentalSky8355 Neurologist Cannot Justify Jury Duty Exemption

I got the dreaded jury duty letter in the mail last week and I sent the form to my neurologist he’s been really accommodating with my chronic migraines getting me on treatments, accommodations at my college, etc. Anyways I sent the form to them and they explained that from a neurological perspective they cannot justify an exemption from jury duty due to migraine headaches. Is it because of the medications just being too good? Don’t get me wrong I’m happy they’re working and all but I’m still getting occasional migraines on them significantly better from where I was (14-16/month pain level 6-7 down to 3-4/month 3 pain level). But I mean how can you be expected to sit in a court room with a throbbing migraine?
I mean either way when I hit medical exemption in the jury form I was disqualified till next year but still does this sound right?

2023.06.07 23:55 Yukisuna Using tackle to stagger enemy players lasts less than half the duration their own staggers last on me?

Since i got a lot of answers on my last post, i'm asking another question i cannot for the life of me find the answer to. So, time and time again i experience enemy players, whether raid types, general types or supports, using their tackle to stagger my suit - and then follow it up by switching to their melee weapon and using a heavy swing to knock me down before i recover from the stagger from being tackled.

But when i try this on other players, here are the differences between them and me:

1: When i tackle an enemy player, their stagger finishes before my tackle animation does. So they can move before i can, never mind swinging my melee weapon.
2: Switching weapons has, for me, a timer before the game lets me use them. So when i switch my weapon AFTER tackling, like other players do, there is a cooldown before i am allowed to melee attack them - how are these players bypassing it?
3: Even if i DO get a swing in - a forwards swing or a sideways swing, for example, which are often lightning quick - the target in question usually gets time to either dodge roll, counter-tackle or fire their currently held weapon. When i get staggered by enemy players tackling me, i am not allowed to do ANYTHING - their next action comes out while i am still staggered, before i can even dodge roll away.
4: Heavy melee attacks... Consider all 3 above. How? How do other players get time to finish their tackle, THEN switch to their melee weapon, THEN perform the long wind-up for their heavy melee attack, all in the brief window i am staggered? How do they get to complete their heavy melee attack before i can even perform any actions whatsoever? What's the secret here? What am i missing to reduce my stagger duration / extend theirs? Lower FPS? Slower internet?

My connection is 1000/1000mbps and the game runs at a smooth 144fps vsync locked, those are the only possible factors i've been able to identify that may account for why it looks like i am playing a completely different games to other players i see on this sub, on youtube and on streams. But i am asking anyway, in case there is a trick i didn't learn, a technique i haven't been taught or a custom part i don't know the existence of. Just anything that may offer me a chance to fix this without outright cheating by deliberately lagging my connection down.

Side note: this also seems to completely disregard melee priority as even when i play raid types, support melee attacks will completely override my melee attacks (even my entire combos, 3 hits vs 1) as if they never happened.

2023.06.07 23:53 Colinski282 Are 3/4” Steeltek structural pipes strong enough not to bend as horizontal support for sail shade posts? Pics included

https://imgur.com/a/vGz3Vjw
Would a 3/4” Steeltek structural pipe and flange be durable enough to fasten to my brick with tapcon and to my sail shade posts?
Link shows my 4x4 posts and 2x6 crossmember that are going to be used for shade sails and nothing else weight bearing. Would these 3/4” Steeltek pipes (https://www.lowes.com/pd/SteelTek-3-4-in-x-10ft-Black-Steel-Structural-Pipe-Plain-End-SCH30/1000462001) be strong enough to tapcon into the brick and to the lumber without bending from tensioning the sails?
Any other ideas? Was trying to avoid putting heavy lumber onto the brick and having to fasten a ledger board to hang joists.

2023.06.07 23:52 Strange_Anxiety9510 Slavic pantheon

Slavic pantheon
After developers adds most important gods (like Perun, Veles, Morena, Svarog, Zorya) i think they can see some inspiration from folklore characters. We have Baba Yaga who is more like fairy tale or bogeyman character than goddess. Rus' culture have Bylinas (fantastic folk stories) with bogatyrs and polenitsas (rus' epic heroes and heroines) where they fight with various creatures. Some fairy tales characters also can be interesting looking.
For example:
  1. Ilya Muromets (warrior) Rus' most famous bogatyr. He was paralyzed. for 33 years until volkhvs (slavic druids) cured him and give him unmeasured strength. Then he joined army of Vladimir the Fair Sun and fought with Nightingale the Robber, Idolishe, Kalin Tsar.
  2. Svyatogor (guardian) Old gigantic bogatyr who is so heavy that earth is being squeezed upon him. He have crystal casket with his wife inside. Mentor of Ilya Muromets.
  3. Nightingale the Robber (hunter) Bird-like thief who have destructive whistle. Archenemy of Ilya Muromets. He can have some Tataro-mongol elements in design.
  4. Zmei Gorynich (guardian) Three-headed slavic dragon who likes kidnapping princesses and been slained by bogatyr named Dobrynya Nikitich. He inspired King Ghidorah from Godzilla.
  5. Koschei the Deathless. (assassin) Lich warlock whose death hidden in needle. One of most famous fairy tale characters. He have some ties with Baba Yaga.
  6. Vasilisa the Beautiful (mage) Merchant daughter who have magic bereginya doll and was gifted by Baba Yaga with fiery skull lantern.
  7. Morozko or Moroz (mage) Frost spirit who later become Santa Claus like figure in slavic countries known as Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost).
  8. Snegurochka (mage) Snow maiden daughter (in modern times granddaughter) of Moroz and Vesna (spring spirit).
