The Falun Gong website WOIPFG claimed that the Hong Kong Youth Care Association is controlled by the CCP (Communist Party of China). WOIPFG claimed that "the entity responsible for organizing and executing these terrorist attacks can be traced back to the communist regime and the Chinese Consulate in New York. The communist regime’s motives for launching these attacks are related to both a singular incident, as well as being part of a long-term strategy. The motives are: [5 motives]" However, the protesters weren't all violent and there is no evidnce to prove that the goal was to intimidate Falun Gong practitioners.
It also stated "Attempts by the regime's thugs to pose as Falun Gong practitioners and then attacking the elderly and pregnant women to create violent attacks to shift the blame onto Falun Gong practitioners." But there is no proof.
The only evidence of WOIPFG is an alleged phone recording of a Chinese consul general Peng Keyu: "I should say I have kept a good relationship with them. Given their kind of passion, you must go there (in person). Showing up there (in person) or not makes a lot of difference in terms of effect. So you go there in person. That is a bit hard work. You work a little harder, but, this way (I) get closer to the hearts of those overseas Chinese people. For example, they came over after they fought with Falun Gong (practitioners), and I shook hands with them one by one to thank them. Then I said a few words (to them), encouraging words. This is what must be done. I am just telling you the truth. Even when it is done to this extent, yet I cannot do it right there in front of Falun Gong. I always parked my car far from the scene to avoid being seen by them [Falun Gong practitioners]. I must be careful about this; otherwise, people will accuse me ... This will give them leverage. That will not be good. You know, I have been very careful. When they came down here and (told me) we had driven (Falun Gong practitioners) out, I just shook hands with them. I said thank you to them, and some encouraging words. In addition, I held a press conference yesterday and condemned Falun Gong. Yesterday, it was yesterday when I held a press conference."

Today - April 1st 2023 - marks the start of our reading of 'The Argonautica' aka 'Jason and the Golden Fleece'.
If you are following along with us, that means that we will be reading Book One this week.
This reading will last throughout April and evens out to one 'book' aka chapter per week. At the end of each week we will be posting a discussion post to talk about that week's book. The official dates for the discussion posts are:
I don't want to spoil the story for anyone who wants to go in without them, so I'll try to provide some important spoiler-free context points and links where possible below:
Background Info/Setting: The Argonautica, as we know it, is an ancient retelling of the older tale 'Jason and the Golden Fleece'. There has been speculation about the original myth and where/when it was first set but no one can be sure. The Argonautica tells Jason's story as part of the Greek mythos and is set in Ancient Greece, in what we believe to be modern Thessaly. The story happens a generation before 'The Iliad' and 'The Odyssey'. For those who read along with our Odyssey reading, this means that we'll get to see a little more of Laertes, Odysseus' father, and his generation.
Kingdom and Ancestory - Jason was born the son of Aeson, the King of Iolcos. Aeson was overthrown by his brother, Pelias, before Jason was born. Pelias took control of the kingdom and locked Aeson up but Aeson still managed to sire a child by a woman named Alcemide. Alcemide managed to trick Pelias and smuggle Jason out of the country. Jason was then sent to the famous centaur, Chiron, who was known for raising demi-gods. It is believed that Jason had some godly heritage. The most common opinion is that he was a descendant of Hermes but the link is not fully explained in most versions of the text.
The Challenge/Quest - Early in the story Jason tries to reclaim his father's kingdom. King Pelias manages to turn Jason's challenge into a (seemingly) impossible quest: to steal the mythical golden fleece from another kingdom, Colchis. The golden fleece came from a special flying ram that saved a famous demi-god, Phrixus from his enemies. The ram landed in Colchis and Phrixus sacrificed it to Zeus as a thank you to the gods when he set up his kingdom there. It was passed down the generations and had some magical properties as well as being a symbol of the royal family of Colchis. It was heavily guarded, which is important to note.
The Heroes - There are fifty heroes in Jason's entourage, sometimes referred to as the Argonauts after the boat Jason sails on (the Argo). The Argonauts consisted of many famous faces, including Heracles (Hercules), Laertes and Nestor (a character we will see play a bigger role later in 'The Iliad').

Hey everyone, I wanted to share some of the resources/tools I've compiled that are helpful for making designs.
1 TextureLabs.org - One of my absolute favourites. Not only does this guy share hundreds of resources, he also creates amazing tutorials using them in Photoshop or Illustrator. A few that I have found incredibly useful are:
Retro halftone effects
Create automatic long shadows
Distressed text edges
That's just a small sample. I'd recommend checking a few out, they've improved my design skills massively as my Photoshop skills are self taught.

You can adjust a few parameters like keywords, black and white, minimalism, pattern and primary colour. Has returned some very interesting images in the past. Obviously these are all other peoples photos so make sure to slap a threshold filter on first before you stick it on a tee /s
4 Creative Market - They offer lots of paid resources but also do a free drop every week of fonts/vectors/templates which is what I use them for.
5 Velvetyne.fr - Currently on strike but they have a unique selection of own created fonts available for free download.

1 TextureLabs.org - One of my absolute favourites. Not only does this guy share hundreds of resources, he also creates amazing tutorials using them in Photoshop or Illustrator. A few that I have found incredibly useful are:
Retro halftone effects
Create automatic long shadows
Distressed text edges
That's just a small sample. I'd recommend checking a few out, they've improved my design skills massively as my Photoshop skills are self taught.

At first, we held regular meals and small snacks in the homes we partnered with. With the help of donors, many of these were held on an as-needed basis. Due to that, we were unable to guarantee an ongoing supply of Food.
