We met in high-school. I took notice of her from the first day I saw her. One day I asked her to a dance and soon after we started dating. It was honestly a wonderful relationship built on mutual respect, trust, and genuine care for the other. Neither of us believe in dating just to date, even at our age, so we knew we were going to try to make this work long term.
After we graduated, she had to move across the country for college, while I stayed one more year. We knew it would be hard but we had confidence and were willing to do what needed to be done to make long distance work.
However soon after her move, she quickly became constantly stressed and emotionally dead. Moving away from everything she loved and knew together with the stress of college, made trying to additionally figure out long distance impossible.
Still we tried for two months, both in denial that it had to end. Eventually she was brought to her breaking point and so we called and she emotionless said it was over. We haven’t talked since then. That was 8 months ago and I haven’t seen her in 10 months. Again, last time I saw her, we were both still crazy for the other.
She is now back in Texas from her college in California, and I feel something needs to be done. Deep down part of me still wants her, but I know I am not at all in a place right now to start a relationship again. But I do desire to be right with her, to be able to walk away both of us at peace with that time in our life.
