2023.03.29 10:35 doemaen Tyee or Strive

Hey guys! Let me pick your brains on two bikes. I'm about 190cm (6'3") and currently own a 2019 Canyon Strive in Size L, after some modifications I end up with the following geo numbers: 65°hta 74°sta 461mm reach 1230mm wheelbase Now let me elaborate my dilemma. I recently noticed a dent in the frame near the rear axle on the driveside and Canyon offered to replace the frame for 1200€. Currently there is a Sale on Propain Tyee frames and I could get a aluminum frame for 1000€. My question: Should I get the Canyon replacement, should I ask Canyon if they could provide me with a Size XL frame (I think I could profit from a bit more reach) or should I get a Tyee frame for a complete geo update? I currently live in switzerland, ride the trails around Zurich and the alps.
TLDR: Should I get a 2019 Canyon Strive or a 2022 Propain Tyee frame?

2023.03.29 10:00 rayhollyx The Caffeinated Motorcycle (Spiritual Journey)

It's late. And it's that time again for me. And I have been pondering something for a while. A motorcycle to me represents not just a mode of transportation.
In my 5 years of being Free of Caffeine, 3 of those have been spent riding a motorcycle. At the time, I was actually looking at "Groms" because I wanted to take a ride around my block along the dirt embankments during the Covid Lockdown. I settled for a $1200, 40 year old, 250c instead.
If you would have told me, approximately 2 years later, I would be riding this small bike 40 miles into the local mountains, at an elevation of 5,000 feet, I wouldn't have believed. Albeit, at the time, it took baby steps. And a lot of balls.
In some respects, I had to "build up" to a feat like that. Some men, who have been riding for years, find these journeys just another walk in the park. For me, venturing up a mountain on a 250cc bike that weighs 270 pounds is basically a test of stillness. The ability to be mentally still. To be one with the mind, breath, and surroundings. A similar trip, 30 miles into barren wilderness with just 2 bottled waters soon followed.
With Coffee, came darkness.
I've lost something since I decided to partake. I did an experiment to see if it would help with dexterity, focus, weightloss, etc. The veil of spirituality soon became clouded. I no longer could see. In the midst of my experimentation, we went to the mountains for a family get-togther and a wedding. I brought my 40 year old beatup, 250cc. When I arrived, I found myself on some twisty trail-like roads being chased by 1,000 liter sports bike. I pulled over. The next day, hail, ice, and fog hit my visor, and for the first time in 3 years of riding I had a panic attack and pulled over to the side of the road. That was in January.
A week ago, I got the flu and was bed ridden for 5 days. I decided this would be the best time to quit Caffeine. My spirit was longing for that sense of power and peace it had once lost. These past 3 months have been bathed in a darkness I do not understand. A darkness that, under scientific standards, have been dubbed "Beneficial to health, prevention of Alzheimers, antioxidants, dexterity, focus etc." - I've read the wikipedia entries. I've seen the scientific testimonials of Caffeine's benefits.
But deep in the recesses of my mind, the fogged lens on my helmet, the sleet hitting me in the face, and the cold, mountainous road that induced a panic attack remained. Was it the sleep-aid and both caffeine that did it? The darkness bathed me. Stubbornly, angrily, I gripped the handlebars shaking, in the rain, and forced myself to ride 10 miles to the nearest gas station, visor barely visible. A 10 minute ride of absolute fear of death. Pulling over to the side of the road as I was battered with fog, sleet and rain.
As I went through having the flu, and continued the detoxifying of removing Caffeine from my mind, laying in bed with headaches, and aches, occasionally I would go for a drive, and walk around for a bit. Something strange dawned on my decaffeinated brain, which had been free of it's grasp for a few days. The trees swayed in slow motion as the sun set behind me. I stopped at a local church in my small town, and marveled at it's beauty and simplicity. "Caffeine is a psychoactive" they would say. I recall, passing through it's field of energy upon partaking it. Everything became elated. It is rumored ancient monks in the Arab world discovered Coffee and used it for spiritual purposes, to pray and meditate more stringently. I reflected on this as my reality was surreal, in the haze of fighting the virus, headache, yet bathed in a calm nostalgic serenity of my spirit once again at rest.
No hot liquid, to disturb my senses in a fervor to twitch, or move "for the sake" of moving. Or clean my room, and detail my toilets, and obsess over the minuscule smudged on my bathroom mirrors. Just the simplicity of the breeze, and my slowly decaffeinated mind passing through this vortex, this, once visited psychoactive experiment.
Today marks roughly a week now, and even though there is fatigue lingering from the overworked adrenals of chasing the morning high of first 40-60mg of tea, and "feeling tired still."
The peace is returning. The bags under my eyes are clearing up. And a warm lingering began manifest; and I was called once again to the familiarity of my home town, the side roads, and dirt trails I've been venturing since the Covid lockdown previously.
To Cultivate peace?
It is strange to me the better I've become at cultivating peace and clearing the mind, the more capable I feel of the daring feats. Culture would say the opposite. Things, like the X-games and Extreme Motocross have some thinking the way to go is "Monster Energy Drinks, Red Bulls," etc, to get there.
And maybe there is short term elation.. until the lack of sleep catches up with the cells..

A few days ago, I had a shitty headache and a deep feeling of drowsiness. The brain was signaling for it's fix. I took a nap, and got back on the road. Driving down the highway, the heavens and sky opened up to my perception for the first time in 3 months. "Oh yes. I forgot." I thought.
I was ever grateful to stare into the heavens, doing a steady 65MPH in my beat up old car. The sky, the clouds, and the sun beckoned me into heaven once again, blissfully. It makes me wonder the legitimacy of monks who claimed they used this for spiritual elevation, the scientists who tout the benefits of its effect on mind, and the 60% of the population that scramble, and fight, for a drop of it's black essence in their bloodstream every morning. Is this the proverbial "spice" that has been spoken about in "Dune" Novels?
The image of a Tree, and an old worn out bench some kids dragged up on some hill called to me again. Suddenly the idea of getting back on my bike, and riding to the spot for a peaceful study was very appealing. I'm passing through some kind of vortex, but I'm not sure what that is. Can it be, maybe even 5mg is the sweet spot? or has it always been 0g? My sense of smell returns. The pollen of Marches sun emanates to my nose as those sweet honey-smelling flowers hit me.
My natural state. Not afraid. Welcomed, to the saddle. Warmth emanating my backpack, my study books, my boots, and the blissful freedom of riding again all of a sudden seemed so appealing.
What was this black cloud that passed before me, in this experiment ? The nervousness, the ill temper, the road rage, the impulsivity. For the sake of progress? Because our ancestors supposedly doused themselves with "mead" as peasants for the king and their courts, before the caffeinated Renaissance that took Europe in the 1600s? I guess that is for the individual to find out..

2023.03.29 09:23 Life_Of_Nerds Updates to sub rules and guidelines.

Triple D and I have been working the past week to make updates to the subreddit rules. Please see the sidebar for the additions. Long and short of it, please stay on the topic of motorcycling in Colorado, and stay off the topic of being a jerk. We are still allowing For Sale and Stolen Bike posts (hopefully not related!), please check the guidelines. They will be allowed to remain up for 30 days.
We are HIGHLY encouraging everyone to add User and Post flairs. At this time, they will not be required, but they are helpful for keeping things organized. Right now, User flairs are mostly related to locations, and Post flairs are related to content type (event, news, etc).
u/DenverDogDude and I are new to modding, and we're working out the kinks. I encourage everyone to reach out to us with any suggestions, questions, and concerns. We truly want to make this a great and active community of riders. I do ask that you share this sub with your other social circles.

2023.03.29 08:42 HoodedIdiott [TOMT][2010's...ish] Nestlé Motor/Dirt Bike CD Games.

Hello... again. Just asking about random stuff from my childhood, the usual.
So this was a thing that happened around 2010 where Nestlé would include some racing (if you can call it that) CD games in their cereal bags (also the reason why it's cereal bags is because I live in Romania and cereal boxes are pretty rare and expensive here). There were 3 of these games, one of them was with a MotoDirt Bike. One was with a Quad. I don't remember what the third one was. The CD's were the size of Gamecube CD's (to avoid piracy I assume). What I am looking for specifically isn't the CD's (I doubt you can even buy them) but rather the games themselves, well, the ROM's at least.
I know there are other CD's from cereal boxes and bags but these were the ones that were available where I lived.

2023.03.29 08:17 Joseph_Foster Custom white knight batcycle

Custom white knight batcycle
Its not perfect but its more intersting in my opinion, might add some small things like a bit of dirt and a black wash over some parts but I stayed up way too late working on this so I'll do that another time
Also got the batcycle for just ten dollars during a Walmart sale event

2023.03.29 07:34 Snows-World From Clunk to hopefully greatness ?

I bought a Radmini step Thru 2 for 575 CAD. That's 420 USD. It runs but its rough. Whoever had it before upgraded the battery in a DIY way, there's a lot of work to be done, but the range this person added was HUGE. Now I got a couple of issues:
brakes need to be replaced
handle bar swivel post part part has a bit of play
derailleur guard missing
kickstand missing
just generically looks rough.
headlight is gone, I think the wire for it was cut.
I want to start with the swivel post part first. (the part where you can swivel the handlebars down to fold the bike ) Will I be able to reduce play by tightening? next is brakes, will going for 203mm brakes be a good upgrade? ( 180mm kit cost as much as upgrading to 203mm, what kind of mount do these use in Canada? post or IS?)

For the rest, I guess ill get to it in time (its electrical, but I'm fairly good when it comes to electrical wiring )

I don't know if this was a bad purchase, but it's dirty as hell and took me to 32km/h on an incline on the first try. This baby purrs, but it does so like a 98 civic. Any ideas on how to clean the hub motor area? had to swipe a few layers of dust/dirt to see any markings on the hub motor.

2023.03.29 06:40 veemo797 Monitor recommendations

The monitor I was looking at is now out of stock, and I highly doubt it’ll go back in stock before the sale ends.
Anyone have recommendations for monitors with the following specs?
27”-32”, 144hz+, 1ms (or lower), QHD. I don’t care about IPS vs VA and I’m not looking to spend more than ~$275 pre tax. I would like a reputable brand so I don’t have to deal with bad customer support or dead pixels.
Looking at the LG 32GN650-B as it’s on sale at Amazon, but I want to see other recommendations first.

Will this handbrake work with games such as Assesto Corsa, BeamNG.drive, DiRt Rally 2.0, CarX Drift and Forza Horizon 5?
Hi everyone, I have been looking into upgrading my current sim racing set up and was thinking about purchasing a handbrake to make rallying and drifting feel more immersive. After watching a few YouTube videos I have come across this handbrake, coming from the Aikeec brand, which apparent is pretty good for what it is and the price. I know that there are much high quality ones on the market from brands like Thrustmaster and Fanatec, but I just can't justify spending $500-$600 AUD when I'm still desk-racing a Logitech g920. My question is if this handbrake will work with the games listed in the title and any others. Additionally, if anyone has any other suggestions as to ones I could get at a similar price point (willing to spend a bit more if needed) or advice that would be greatly appreciated.

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.

Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.

Explanation of MVO/TTO to save time:
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.

USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. TTO and management...GOOD LUCK)

You don't have to be crazy to work here. We'll train you. Everything but proper email usage.

Hi, I’m a 16yo male who has been wanting a tat because I can now but I don’t want something silly like a dragon or joker. It has to be something that means something to me. I also want it to be on my hand or forearm so people can see it. Does anyone have any suggestions for Somone who races dirt bikes, flys airplanes, loves the outdoors, likes the military and inspirational things? Any advice appreciated all ears open to anyone experienced

2023.03.29 03:20 MagicalPunkRock [TOMT] [Memoir] A book about a man's childhood living in a small town/backwoods area

This might be kind of a difficult to explain, but I'd like to find this book again. I remember reading it so many times my teacher told me I had to pick a different book to read, so it would be wonderful to read it again. Here is everything I can remember: - The cover of the book was a light blue and the text was in an orange-y red box. In the middle was an illustration of two boys, one being the author, riding bikes. IIRC, they were both holding small cages with chickens in them. - The author described his room as being on a second floor (or an attic maybe?) Overlooking a dirt road - The only story I can clearly remember was a story about an animal (I believe it was a chicken) getting loose during a snowstorm and the author's father going out in the snow to find it. - The book had to have been published sometime before 2014-2015 because I was in 4th grade when I read it and that was around when I was in 4th grade I'll be graduating next year, so it would be wonderful to find this book again and read it for old times sake. Thanks in advance!!

2023.03.29 03:19 RainbowNeckHustles Flip off cancer - is this a stupid idea?

Background:
I live in a large and growing metro areas. I have been picking up free and selling random items (sporting goods, furniture, bikes, etc) for the last few months. I have some skills that allow me to refurbish furniture and fix/replace some items on bicycles. Plus, I actually like the listing, marketing, haggling, selling, ect part of the process. Everything I sell is on FBMP, OfferUp, Nextdoor, etc (all face to face, no eBay). I am averaging a net profit of roughly $1k per month. Nothing to brag about, but I enjoy it.
Separately, I work for a large Fortune 500 and my wife and I do alright financially. We could always have more money, but couldn’t we all? I dont need to flip items to make the ends meet. It is fun to me.
Lastly, my mother passed away quickly from a rare form of lung cancer. My wife is just finishing winning her battle against a gnarly form of lymphoma (blood cancer) after multiple years and a stem cell transplant during the pandemic. I have a bit of a passion for hating cancer.
Idea:
I have thought about creating a not for profit that flips items and invests the profits into cancer patient/family support programs and research. I have broken the process into 4 parts:
  1. Sourcing Inventory: I feel like one of the hardest parts of flipping for a $50+ profit on each sale is securing enough medium - high value inventory. People regularly give furniture and other medium - high value donations to places like Goodwill. Places like Goodwill pay inflated salaries to their executives (Each Goodwill is its own non-profit with its own CEO, however, several Goodwill CEOs make an average salary of around $500,000 per year.). Positioning this to a community in the right way would likely drive their valuable donations to donate to one where the team is working pro bono. I might be naive, but I think telling someone that is donating a bike that if they donate it to you then 100% of the profit from that bike sell will go to cancer patient support would sway them to donate that bike to you instead of a corporate not for profit. I think donators would be willing to drop off their donation instead of you driving door to door to pick up a piece or two at a time. This would help with efficiency.
  2. Refurbishing Inventory: I am only one person, but I know there are others out there that have the skills to refurbish furniture or fix bikes or whatever. Especially retirees. My thought is you partner with people that want to help. You give them a piece to refurbish and a timeline for completion. You provide the supplies that are needed to quickly refurbish the project and when they are ready for another project, you supply it to them.
  3. Marketing/Selling: I am handy at listing and negotiating sales so I would continue doing this. This could be expanded to others in the future if this grows to too much to handle.
  4. Delivery: I would try to provide 2-3 days a week where I bring all my purchases that are supposed to happen on that day and have customers come to a central location/parking lot for pick up. Maybe offer delivery for a fee on certain items.
To be very clear, I am not looking to make a dime off of this enterprise. I want to put roughly 15-20 hours a week into it and help as many patients/families that are going through a devastating scary time in their lives.
I want to think this through as much as possible before I pull the trigger. I also dont want to get on the wrong side of the flipping community in my area.
Provide me your brutally honest opinion? Stupid idea? Doomed to failure? Am I being overly optimistic on people being willing to donate and support an organization like this? Nothing you will say will hurt my feelings.

Edit 1: I do plan on donating the profits to established charities that have a proven track record of low internal spend (salaries) and high giving to patients/families.

2023.03.29 03:13 RamblingMuse Advice for my dad on a truck

I'm trying to help my 77 year old dad buy a used truck, but we're running into some roadblocks. He lives in a rural area in Iowa, outside of town on about 15 miles of county gravel road. About 3 times a month, he has to go up to the state VA that is about 2 hours away (paved hwy) for various health check-ups. His needs are: 4WD, crew cab, small/medium size truck for easy access, automatic, V6, PW, PL and reliable. He would like leather seats because he takes his German Shorthair dog on trips, but he can go with cloth if needed. Personally, I would like it to also have back-up camera/navigation and lane departure for obvious safety reasons.
I've been trying to talk him into something a little newer, within the last 3 years, to get those newer safety features and maybe even have some warranty left. But, the biggest obstacle is he can be very cheap, so it's hard to find something that he's willing to pay. He doesn't want his payments over $500/month. He does have a 2013 Buick Enclave (2WD) with a little over 98,000 miles on it that he could possibly trade or sale, but I'm not sure he'd do that because it was the last car he and my mom bought before she passed away. I also believe he could put around $2000-$3000 down on something. He's been looking at the Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado but he's not found anything in his price range. Is there maybe something different that would fit his needs and still be in line with his price?

2023.03.29 03:02 white_lightn1ng Buying adv bike

I'm buying an adventure bike and am torn between the bmw 1250gs or the triumph tiger 1200 rally. I've done some googling and research and I think I'm settling on the triumph. Budget isn't a huge issue I was going to buy brand new, but there's a 2018 for sale in my city with all the accessories already on it for almost half the price. Is there a big difference between the 2018 and 2023. Also should I be considering the bmw 1250 more?
Edit: I'll be using this for a trip from canada to southern tip of south america. Focusing on more offroad terrain through South america
Also I'm 6'5" so if one feels larger that would be a plus.
