2023.03.26 14:26 Arthimensis Hoi! Kunnen jullie helpen met een zinsconstructie?

Hi guys,
I'm learning dutch for a month and something (from a Portuguese native it's being a challenge). I'm learning in Duolingo at the moment and this phrase appeared :
"The girl does not have much bread" and asked me to translate it. My response was "Het meisje heeft niet veel brood" and it said it was a wrong answer and it gave the right answer as "Het meisje heeft weinig brood".
Wouldn't be "Weinig" a few ? meaning she has bread ? Did a miss something ? Could it be because bread can be countable and uncountable ? Because I can buy for example "2 breads" but also is a definition of a product in general ? I'm so confuse.
Dank je voor je hulp !

2023.03.26 14:25 DumbassFromNZ Need suggestions for someone that can't find work

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for job suggestions but it does sort of come back to student loans.
Background: I'm from Auckland and I graduated mid 2021 with a bachelor's degree in computer science and I've been struggling to find work. I've tried contacting recruiters and constantly looking and applying to any opportunity I see and usually get a response but after some interviews I get rejected. I've had my CV and cover letters checked out a few times so I don't think that's the problem. Also it doesn't look good on my CV when I graduated in 2021 and have no work experience till 2023 and I know it's a common question interviewers ask but it feels terrible answering it every time.
The jobs I'm looking out for are the help desk, QA, web development, SQL roles. Just anything IT related that will help me gain experience. I'm a hardworking dude and I'm spending my time upskilling on stuff like web development and trying to keep active on GitHub with projects so I'm not just wasting time.
Last week I had an interview with a company for a graduate role and most of the questions they asked was unrelated to a graduate and mostly for someone who obviously had work experience like how am I supposed to respond to: "What would you do if a customer found a bug and it's urgent? Who do you respond to and what would you do? or What would you do if you found a bug but the product was already in final production?". Most of my experience is through group projects and there's just limited answers I can give cause in my experience I usually just handle any issue to a team member and we'd just fix it compared to working in a development team for a company.
My other option would be further study but I know it won't help much for computer science and I'm not really interested in doing a masters. Do I start thinking about another career path? I do enjoy what I do and I'm pretty passionate about IT but I feel like It's too competitive and I'm not smart enough.
I'm sorry for the long essay and if this post is not part of the rules. I'm just really burnt out on applying for roles and heavily depressed. I just want a job that's all and gain experience.

2023.03.26 14:24 JustCallMeTere Saturday Was An Eventful Day (NVME Install)

Screws came out of the back no problem, used PH1. Took back plate off (check), the shield off (check), removed the nvme shield (check), no problem, watched Sabrent tutorials and a lot of other ones (put a Rocket 1TB in). Then I put everything back together, no wires pinched.
Not turning on, wait...what.
Took it all back apart. Damn, battery cable in but not all the way maybe. Use plastic spudger to make sure it's plugged in all the way. Put everything back together. OK, turns on, no problem. USB C drive, wait...what. I'm not spending an hour waiting for it to do the SteamOS. Back to rufus to put it on micro SD after reading reddit...10 minutes up and running.
Then Elder Scrolls Online, look everywhere for my answers, nothing worked, then finally, googling and tweaking for a couple of hours, found it...on reddit. Install completely on desktop, run it (I have a tiny bluetooth keyboard and mouse) then add it to steam (Youtubers you could have saved me all that time), then change the compatibility and control scheme.
Play Saturday night session of Baldur's Gate 3 (I am the host so I have to be there). Once we log off, I have time to myself. Go back to my deck and it works. ESO, the game I spent over 4100 hours in, works on my beloved Steam Deck.
Happy Girl
Oh and the best part. Friend who is on my FB gaming group says "You have a steam deck? So Jelly"
CHECK!!!

2023.03.26 14:24 HREXPRT New HR position, can anyone offer support guidance?

I have been in HR for the last 7+ years. I have an extensive background as an HR Generalist, and I tend to move positions every 2.5 years, once I have mastered what I need to know. Recently I accepted a promotion in a somewhat new area. I was honest on my resume and in the interview that I had about 1 year of experience in this particular field, but I had not worked in this capacity in the last 6 years. It is an area I am very passionate about (which is very much true).
Since starting the position, I have been overwhelmed which is unusual. Typically, I can transition easily and jump right in without issue. I think it's because this organization has some odd and very arduous processes and procedures that all of my other organizations did not. This was vaguely explained to me in advance, but I did not have a full grasp of the scope until after I was onboarded. It has been a culture shock, to say the least.
I am one month into this position and I am basically training myself. I was told, here are some files, go into everything, read, look at past examples, and do it. While I am a strong employee and highly motivated, I feel that the transition could be better. I have spoken to others on my team (actually, the only one person who responded to me when I reached out), and they stated they never received any training either. This is a remote position, there is no team collaboration, and there appears to be a reluctance to answer my questions -- they never reach out to me to see how I am assimilating. This has left me with anxiety and dreaming about my new job due to stress. In reality, I know if this position doesn't work out I can find a new job with my experience, education, and certification... but I have never failed before and the thought that I may is overwhelming.
I'm just looking for some camaraderie and advice about getting out of my own head so I do not self-sabotage. I should note that I tend to catastrophize.

2023.03.26 14:23 Irritated_bypeople technology getting to be too much for you?

Although this has been ongoing for some time, it cropped up again this week. I bought a tablet to use for reading some PDFs. My eyesight is starting to go as I am nearing 50 and its easier to read a screen 10 inches as opposed to 6. Upon opening the tablet it had a pile of useless apps and required you to be signed in to google to pretty much do anything. I was struggling to just use it in a file transfer and decided I am going to return it at this point.

Perhaps I am expecting too much, or perhaps too little. When I had my blackberry playbook it functioned a lot more like a regular PC. I want my tablet to be a touch screen pc more than a phone, this is a me issue I am sure, but also the complete need for everyone to be in your business. Need to login to outlook to turn on your post win 7 PC, need a google or apple account to use your phone/tablet. Need to sign into your smart tv to get it to run better. Don't mind us activating your camera and mic because we need to know what you are doing at all times.
I was once an early adopter but find tech way to intrusive now. I don't want or need google to check whats in my fridge and order it for me. I don't need Toyota to send me a notification that after 5,000 miles my hybrid van needs a service (and keeps reminding me) despite it using synthetic oil that can get 10,000.
Am I old man yelling at clouds is does anyone else have this issue or other tech concerns? Is my lack of trust from seeing how often it fails a me problem or is it real. I have been super pissed about this lately and want to see an answer that isn't "you are using the internet to post this you hypocrite"

2023.03.26 14:23 Ch0pztickZ In-game advice: loot, crafting, skills

So I finally decided to give Cyberpunk 2077 another shot after experiencing random crashes and being angry at the fact that I have no mirror image on reflective surfaces - even with RT turned on (minus 40 FPS or something). Also the first couple of hours didn't exactly catch my interest. With The Heist things are starting to get more interesting and the story is kinda cool, too.
Enough babbling, I have a bunch of really basic questions. You may link resources you can recommend instead of answering something that has probably been discussed a thousand times over.
  1. What do I do with guns and other equipment I find? Disassembling vs selling: I can't grasp the value of components or money this early into the game. I usually disassemble everything but I end up not really using the components.
  2. How do I get rare or legendary components? I have a gun and a katana that I can make legendary but I don't have the components. Do I have to disassemble rare or legendary equipment?
  3. Is upgrading weapons worth it - especially if I have to use rare components that I have very little of? To be more specific: Is there a way to get components back if I want to change the weapon later on? And what happens to an "upgrade" (without changing rarity) on a rare item that I later convert into a legendary item? Does the upgrade stick or is it wasted?
  4. Will weapons that I find at the beginning remain useful later into the game (through upgrades) or will I find / buy / craft late-game stuff anyway?
  5. Attributes and skill trees are a bit overwhelming. As a beginner I am kind of spreading out the points thought that's probably not what I'm supposed to do to reach maximum effectiveness. Are there any general options/build paths to consider?
  6. I noticed I get skill points for using skills (such as weapon types, silent kills etc.) - what does that do exactly and what's the difference to the type of skill points that I can spend on actual skills (Ninjutsu etc)?

2023.03.26 14:21 IonutOny Is it worth coming back?

Hello fellow gamers. I was looking for a MMO to spend my free time with it, I was thinking about finding new mmos that I haven't played but couldn't really find anything interesting. I have played Lost Ark before, for around 800 hours, I was a Control Glaivier (1480 ilvl) main. I was wondering if anything changed with this class and if it is worth to come back? I quit before the launch of clown so I'd say im very behind. What do you guys think?

Hi everyone, this is a question for Fixed Income - Intro to Fixed Income valuation.
It's to solve for r, but like honestly how do we compute for r?
ChatGPT told me this is impossible to solve algebraically, am I missing some obvious answer how to compute this??
BTW difficulty level was expert for this question. Is CFA trying to troll us on this question or what?
Much appreciated.

2023.03.26 14:21 Ram_the_Rod Enterprise Rent-A-Car damage scam

If this isn’t the kind of post that is allowed here, please remove. I’ve recently just finished dealing with, what I believe to be, Enterprise scamming me to get a car repaired. This was a long drawn out process over a couple months and I just want to share my experience so maybe others don’t have to deal with a similar situation. BE WARY OF ENTERPRISE.
I hit a raccoon on my way to work one morning (4:30am, very dark out still). He ran out in front of me and there was no time to react. It busted a hole through my front bumper. So, after dealing with my insurance and getting the car in for repairs, they set me up with a rental from Enterprise. This car was not great to say the least. The front end was heavily scratched and dented, then entire frame alone the bottom and black scuffs and scratches, and the front driver’s side was completely missing the wheel well. But, I had pictures of the whole car and the employee marked all these spots as previous damage, so I was on my way.
My car was in the shop for 10 days (it was over Thanksgiving, so there were 4 days they were not working on it). On the 9th day, I was coming home from work in the rental, and I started hearing a beep, and the dash of the car was lit up like a Christmas tree. The check engine light and many other warning lights began to show. I called them and they told me “if the car is drivable, then bring it back tomorrow”, so that what I did. The day after I returned it they called me, but I missed the call. They left me a message stating that I had returned the car in “perfect condition” (their words, not mine). This left me with a transcribed copy of that voicemail. A week later, I received another email from their damage recovery unit stating that there was a damage claim on the vehicle against me.
Here’s the scammy part, the actual Enterprise store refused to talk about the supposed “damage” on the vehicle and only wanted me to commit to filing it through my insurance. No one in their corporate office would take my call and no one from the company could tell me how to dispute these claims. So I let it go because I’m not paying for something I didn’t do. A few weeks later my insurance calls me telling me they have a claim sent to them for almost $13k for a new transmission on the car. They never even sent me an email and just sent to my insurance, expecting to be paid. My insurance declined there claim for lack of evidence that I did what they were claiming, and so the harassing phone calls started. I was getting at least two calls a day from their damage division demanding that I pay this. I stopped answering and filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau. A month later, I received a letter from Enterprise that “they decided to drop the claim” 🙄
This was my first rental experience and it was an absolute nightmare. I would urge people to not use Enterprise, but if you do, don’t be afraid to decline a car if it doesn’t look up to standards. And don’t be afraid to fight back and defend yourself. I’ve seen similar stories about Enterprise doing things like this and it’s really disappointing that they could scam someone into paying for their car repairs based on unseen, prior damage on a vehicle. Renter beware.

What You Get Phase 0) Digital Economics 101 The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date. This is an onboarding module that will get you up to speed so we can get straight into the material. This will be required to finish before the start date.
  • Gain a deep understanding of all of the pieces in the digital economy.
  • Learn about the future of media and code — the front-end and backend of the internet — so you can focus your efforts.
  • Understand digital leverage, distribution, no-code tools, and digital assets so you can take part in the mental & financial wealth transfer.
Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with *what will sell.*You already have the answer. You just don’t have the clarity.
  • Develop a long-term strategy to create your own niche — meaning you don’t have to worry about your “competition” playing status games.
  • Discover your life’s work, curiosities, and obsessions. I see too many people that are uncertain about this for years.
  • Cultivate and turn your vision, goals, and values into a brand that attracts an audience you love interacting with (and that will buy from you, and only you).
Phase 2) Content Strategy There is one thing that separates those who make it in the digital economy and those who don’t.It’s the quality, articulation, and perceived originality of their content. The content you post has to make sense to the people you attract.Everyone has a different voice and tone that they resonate with. **That they are congruent with and trust.**It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable. That’s what separates you from the sea of people posting surface-level copy-cat style posts.Example and putting my money where my mouth is:
  • Become an expert-level speaker or writer on the topics you care about.
  • Never run out of content ideas for your posts or promotions (without using content templates — that’s how you stay a commodity).
  • Create posts, blogs, tweets, images, and videos that resonate with other’s on a deep level. People will actually ask you how you got so good at what you do.
  • Separate yourself from the ocean of B-tier creators that struggle to sell their products, services, andhave their ideas stick in the head of their audience.
  • Implement our Epistemic Research Method — which is just a fancy way of saying scientific research method… but it’s for researching your mind to craft brilliant content and product ideas.
Phase 3) Crafting Your Offer Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge (that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them). That is what people pay for.Considering 95% of the market are beginners… if you are good at something, you can help them get to your level (no matter how “basic” you think the information is).Do you not watch basic content all day anyway? People don’t want new information, they want to be reminded of what works.
  • Use our Minimum Viable Offer strategy to start monetizing immediately (and have something to improve over time, rather than procrastinating until it’s perfect).
  • Have a strategy for reducing the time you spend working over time (as you build leverage and improve your offer).
  • Know how to create your own customers from the audience you are building, instead of “finding” the right customer for your offer.
  • Take the guesswork out of building coaching, consulting, or digital product offers.
Phase 4) Marketing Strategy You aren’t making money because you aren’t promoting yourself or your offer. That is literally the only way to make money. Have something desirable and consistently put it in front of peoples’ faces. In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way).
  • Learn to sell on social media, in your writing, and across different platforms.
  • Have consistent sales coming in while focusing on your meaningful message (no need to sound salesy all the time).
  • Learn advanced automation strategies that you can implement at your own pace, especially once you validate your offer.
Bonus) The Creator Command Center The Creator Command Center is a Notion template that houses all of the systems. This is how you will manage your brand, content, offer creation, marketing strategy, and systemized promotions for consistent sales. Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan.***And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days.***That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work.

2023.03.26 14:20 Calm-Lie6002 Chances of infection or stress?

I would like to have your opinions even if I don't expect any miracle answers.

Basically I have had chronic epididymitis for over a year. Scrotum red, tender and swollen, no other symptoms. I have never tested positive for any bacteria, I have taken antibiotics when in doubt without success and even I was not sexually active at the time so the infectious cause is very unlikely. I think my problem is more prostate related.
Anyway, with time, stretching, physiotherapy, etc. etc. I'm slowly getting my life back to almost normal. My balls are still inflamed but the pain is less and less frequent.
I had accepted the idea of living with it, especially as all the medical consultations I had were totally useless so I didn't really have a choice. Lately my life has been going very well, I've been running again, doing sports, really feeling good. So much so that I decided to see a girl.

We had (protected) sex but she gave me unprotected oral sex. That was Wednesday and since Friday night I've been feeling like I need to urinate constantly, a bit like when someone touches your prostate and it makes you want to pee. But no burning on urination, normal looking and smelling urine.
The thing is, I've had this before when I've been stressed or horny for too long, constant need to pee but it would eventually go away in a few hours. Now it's been almost 3 days. I think it would be a really unfortunate coincidence to get an infection from just oral sex knowing that I've had relationships with dozens of girls before without having any problems. I think maybe the stress of the encounter, the intensity of the sex and the apprehension afterwards might have contributed to this, more than an infectious risk.

What do you think? Do you have any advice on the best thing to do? Thanks

Chapter 7: Royal Requisition
The draft horse responded well. Likely since he knew I liked his name.
'Apple'.
It was a simple reminder of my orchard, but just in case I ever forgot, I could reach into one of my many saddlebags and draw out a crisp, delicious red fruit. The horse whinnied in joy. No doubt it could smell the aroma tucked away. He'd be able to enjoy them too—after they were used as projectiles to incapacitate any miscreant or monster hoping to invite themselves onto our day's itinerary.
We certainly weren't going to outpace any adversaries, much less any knights that were sent to usher me back to my impending poverty.
This was no battle steed bred for unmatched pace. Rather, the only thing this draft horse would outrun was a cart. And that's if it was the one pulling it.
Still, I stroked the horse's outrageously shaggy mane and declared myself satisfied.
I was fond of horses. They galloped, plodded and stood still. The three functions I required a horse to do. They did not spill wine over my dresses, straighten the wrong strands of my hair or serve me carrots while trembling with tears and apologies. They had their jobs, and unlike my waiting staff, they did it with exceptional prowess.
Beside me, the barkeeper checked the saddle and bridle.
He went about his task efficiently, tugging at the clasps and ensuring the comfort of both horse and rider. My opinion of village barkeepers rose considerably.
“Do you often require a horse for your line of work?” I queried, noting the way he was carefully inspecting the position of the tack.
The barkeeper didn't look up.
“Not often,” he replied.
The man chose not to annotate. I nodded and looked ahead.
Even the fields around this insignificant village looked modestly impressive when beneath such a welcoming moonlit sky.
“There are provisions, but not for longer than a straight ride to Rolstein. You'd best stop by a village on your way. Your … borrowed money is in a separate pouch, as is my letter.”
“Excellent.”
“Both the letter and the horse is to be delivered to Marina, the local alchemist in Rolstein. You'll find her in her store, if it's still there.”
“If?”
“It's been some time.”
“And if this alchemist isn't available?”
“Then Apple will find his way back. He's a smart one.”
The horse gave a small snort. I took that to be agreement.
“All ready,” said the barkeeper, stepping back. “You've my horse and my night's earnings. Anything else you require before you make for the lowlands?”
“That'll be all. Thank you for your service.”
“And yours, young lady.”
I raised an eyebrow.
A deeply seated part of me wished to remind this commoner about the necessity of referring to proper titles, but I'd declared myself to be Juliette and nobody else.
If my masterful deception were to succeed, then I'd need to maintain the persona of a … well, not a commoner, obviously not, but perhaps some countryside lord's daughter? Or would that arouse too much suspicion?
A problem. I was clearly far too beautiful and well-heeled to be anything less than a duke's favoured child. And all of them were accounted for. Do I pose as somebody else? But who? How should I introduce myself? What questions could I reasonably consider likely to be asked?
For two long seconds, I considered this possible issue.
And then I tossed it to the wayside.
Really now! This is why the kingdom was in the state it was. Why think and stay still when I can think and move? I'd surely come up with an answer by the time I needed to provide one. In fact, why dedicate thoughts to mere possibilities at all?
I was supremely confident in my problem-solving skills. Therefore, once this actually became a problem, it was more efficient to simply come up with the answer there and then as required. My head was too precious to fill up with hypothetical concerns. I had real ones to consider.
Such as figuring out which road was the one south.
“Also, I've provided a map alongside the provisions,” said the barkeeper, his stoic exterior looking progressively more haggled. “It's incomplete, but will help where the roads most often disappear where the woodlands overgrow. Though I'm sure you're well acquainted with the land, there are many areas where even experienced hunters have found themselves suddenly lost.”
This ... This barkeeper!
Once I was back, I would promote him to the royal court! He was far too competent to be serving frothy liquor in a pub with customers that disgraced the floorboards beneath his tables. Why, he should be serving the finest fae wine to dignitaries! Those people only soiled themselves in their guest rooms!
However, that was in the future. Right now, I had to provide him with the only reward I could offer.
Asking his name. And maybe remembering it.
“I … I see! Thank you. Thank you most kindly. I'll use it well in the days ahead. I must say, you've been of considerable service. What is your name, Sir Barkeeper?”
“Thomas.”
I gestured at him to continue.
He paused, seeming to hesitate before doing so. An action I saw frequently. Those of lesser status were always fretful to reveal their family name, for fear of open admonishment.
In truth, this barkeeper had nothing to fear. I already ranked him above every nobleman to have ever visited the Royal Villa. Why, if I requisitioned their horse and crowns, they'd protest as if I was some brigand!
“Thomas Lainsfont.”
“... Lainsfont?”
The man nodded.
Curiously, I found myself eyeing some distant cloud as my mind was struck by a hint of recognition. How strange that this should be the case.
Lainsfont.
I didn't recognise it. Nor should I. I had far too many names to forget as it was before I needed to start including the names of commoners as well.
Even so, this one tickled my memory like a word on the tip of my tongue, even where most others failed.
“Thomas Lainsfont. Now why does that name sound … familiar?”
“I wouldn't know. I'm a barkeeper.”
I eyed him, for what was the very first time, and in doing so officially upgraded him from barkeeper to known person of use.
A man in his forties with the beginnings of grey hair in his stubble. Still, he boasted remarkably young eyes. And his stature. It wasn't lowered by the pouring of mead or the hauling kegs for inebriated louts.
Indeed, his frame remained remarkably tall. And proud.
Hmm.
Interesting.
“Were you ever in service to the kingdom, Mr. Lainsfont?”
The man raised an eyebrow.
“By ensuring the layabouts of this village have somewhere to sleep off their drunkenness, certainly.”
“... I see. Well, if you ever wish to hone your skills on better dressed clientele, I may have a prospective offer of employment for you as soon as I return. Note that better dressed does not mean more palatable, however. Just less … unidentifiable stains involved.”
“I'll look forward to it.”
“Good, good.”
Turning my attention from this known person of use, I gently tugged on the horse's reins. He set off on a slow trot. Eventually, he'd need to test his pace. Rolstein was some distance away, while our knights were closer. I intended to ride through the night and into the next day.
It was only then that I realised something very important.
… I hadn't used the restroom yet.

2023.03.26 14:18 SnekBrek Should I fast or wait until tomorrow?

Salaam alaikum and Ramadan Kareem. I’ve been on my period for around a week now and when I woke up today (around 12pm ish) I realised that my period had ended but I don’t know if it finished before or after Fajr (I haven’t ate or drank yet). What I’m wondering is should I fast today? Or should I wait until tomorrow? I’m sorry if this is a silly question but I’m a revert and I can’t find any solid answers online and I really want to start fasting.

2023.03.26 14:17 ik__ke600 27[M4F] Netherlands/online - Working on a Sunday, want to play a game?

I have some work to catch up to this Sunday afternoon but i would love some (virtual) company.
I'm proposing two games that we can play but feel free to do any suggestions if you have another idea.
The first game is the numbers game. We choose a number from a list with question. The other has to answer truthfully to those questions. I find that these questions really help to know (the sexual side of) the other person. https://i.imgur.com/I5w01km.png
The other game is truth or dare. I don't that one needs a lot of explaining but it can be really fun! We can discuss the rules beforehand but i think it's obvious that anything illegal is of the table. Anything else is open for discussion.
Let me know if you are interested. You can send me a chat request or you can find my kik or snap on my profile.

To help students of engineering stream, SCITECH STUDY has come up with SciTech Study Objective Question Practice Program for the preparation of IIT-JAM and CUET Exams.
Students can download the SCITECH STUDY Android app to get the access to online demo Lecture to get an overview of the course.
Benefits of OQPP
The Objective Question Practice Program (OQPP) by SCITECH STUDY has been designed and structured in such a manner that it is going to help those engineering students who are targeting and IIT-JAM 2023 learn various methods to reach to the right answer while attempting objective questions.
In addition, the OQPP program of SCITECH STUDY is also going to help IIT-JAM aspirants in getting conceptual clarity on various important topics while building upon their time management skills.
In addition to all this, there are a number of other benefits that OQPP offers to an IIT-JAM aspirant. It is because of these benefits that this mode of distance learning and doubt clarification is one of the most favorable study options for students who are targeting IIT-JAM 2023 but are located remotely.
Here are some other benefits of SCITECH STUDY OQPP.
Ability to deduce right answers: The teaching methodology of SCITECH STUDY OQPP program involves rigorous hands on practice to build upon the ability to deduce right answers through critical thinking, lateral thinking, method of elimination, applied knowledge, reading in between lines, rule of time, and most importantly by giving you tips to stay calm and maintain composure till giving a final look.
Conceptual clarity on various important topics: Conceptual clarity of any important topic is very important to reach to the right conclusion or answer when there are many options for answers are given. Once the concepts related to any particular topic are clear then one can easily separate the wheat from the chaff. One of the prime objectives of OQPP is to help IIT-JAM aspirants learn the fundamental concepts related to various important topics rightly the very first time.
When concepts are learned right the first time, there is more time and mind-space to learn, revise and re-learn new things. The focus of subject experts at SCITECH STUDY is on the depth of conceptual understanding rather than assimilating loads of content, and it is because of this only that learning to tackle objective questions through OQPP becomes stronger and long-lasting.
Subject-wise tests to analyses performance: Humans are quite well-known to not be perfectly the same. Even identical twins have some differences. It means, if we possess strengths, it also means that we have weaknesses. Keeping this in mind, OQPP program also offers subject-wise tests at a regular period of time to help the IIT-JAM aspirants determine their strengths and weaknesses, and know where they stand. The faculty at SCITECH STUDY will help them get rid of their weaknesses, and improvise.
How to Register for OQPP:
SCITECH STUDY is offering flat 25 % discount on the program if you enroll on or before 31st March 2023.
To take this online program, an IIT-JAM aspirant from SCIENCE stream has to register now for OQPP. Students can also enroll this program through the SCITECH STUDY Android app and can get access to the online demo Lecture to get an overview of the course.

Hello, guys! I synced my WhatsApp notifications with my T-Rex and there's something annoying me... I'm not a person that gives a lot of attention to social media and just answers my messages when I'm comfortable to answer it. The problem is that everytime that I receive a new message, I get notifications of all the pasts unread messages. There's a way to get notifications just of the recent ones?
I'm not sure if I should post this here or in a WhatsApp forum

2023.03.26 14:16 genericusername019 Some context on the Dark and Darker controversy, coming from a Korean

I was late to the initial train a month ago, but then D&D got removed (for the time being) from Steam so I decided may be I can provide some additional context on ‘why the mood between the Korean gaming community and international scene are so different.’ This controversy never lost much steam (pun intended) here, and newer shovelfuls of coal were fed into it every one or so week. I’ll explicate on that, as well as clear up some confusions on why Koreans seem to find fault in parts where American/international viewers don’t readily understand.

I’ll mainly be addressing the confusion found in this thread (https://www.reddit.com/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/11bne2m/why_dark_and_darker_is_a_stolen_game_additional/). While it’s not the only thread on this controversy, I’m lazy and I just thought handling the one thread with most traction would be best.

Before I get on with the post, I should say that I hate what Nexon is with a passion. Nexon (as well as its other “3N” brothers NC and Netmarble) are a bane to the gaming industry, the spectre which has haunted the Korean gaming scene that ruins everything it touches with its haunting grips and anti-consumer, consumer-predatory business models. It has absolutely ruined the Korean audience’s sense of what games are and what we should expect of games. Its vision is unmotivated, its creations lackluster, and its decision makers view the community not as individuals with thought and preference but as sheep to be milked for every bit of their available savings.

At the same time, there are reasons I’m skeptical of Ironmace, at the very least on the fence about this controversy. Below are a few points on why, formed in a way that can address some confusions.
1) Is Dark and Darker is a stolen game?

No. But it doesn’t end there.

Like many have mentioned, this sort of game formula has been tried before and it is not unique to Nexon’s P3. Even if it is similar in concept to the unreleased, never-finished P3, Ironmace’s rendition uses, according to them, mostly store-bought assets and their code. But this, at least to Nexon, was never the central point on why they’re engaged in a legal battle with one of IM’s executives.
Nexon sued IM executive “A” for violating the “Unfair Competition Prevention And Trade Secret Protection Act” (부정경쟁방지 및 영업비밀보호에 관한 법률).
While the the exact terms under which Nexon has sued Person A is not exactly public, Art. 2 (Definitions) No.1 (“act of unfair competition”) line K may be relevant.

What’s more is that earlier this month, Korean law enforcement conducted a search and seizure of Ironmace’s Seongnam office. In the Korean criminal code Art. 215, a S&S warrant is only permissible if there is reason to believe that a crime has been committed. Before some people pull out their tinfoil hats, Nexon is not strong enough to move the courts to its sole favor. Hell, it’s the court of a functional, developed democratic country.
So the answer to no.1 is that no, the Dark and Darker game is not stolen. But did someone in IM steal from Nexon? Maybe, with a hefty lean towards yes. The reason why the Korean community leans toward the latter conclusion, even when the legal battle is not concluded, is further handled in the next bit.
2) Nexon fired some programmers, so they took their ideas and turned it into a new studio and a fun game. What’s the matter?

People get fired in the US all the time. Or that’s what I’ve gathered from my small window of American society, from friends, the news, and my own research as I look for my way to the States. Quite often would people get fired and they find new jobs or begin a business. But the same cannot be said of Korea.

In Korea, labor laws are very strong and this pretty much blocks most forms of dismissal save from restructuring. It’s not that you can’t be dismissed, but it’s that any minute blunder made by corporate during the process will get the government to breathe down their neck. And it’s usually not in corporate’s favor. What’s more, any minute flaw in the process will have the union up in arms as well. Coincidentally, Nexon has one of the largest, strongest labor unions in all of Korean IT corporations. In this climate, it is safe to say that most dismissals are handled as recommended resignations.

In light of this fact, the sued IM exec was dismissed as part of a disciplinary action. In Korea, to be fired liked this is rare on its own, and to not dispute it or go to court over it is even rarer. So this is circumstantial, in turn weak, evidence that someone in IM did steal assets and code from Nexon. If Person A did not commit these actions that Nexon is claiming, why forgo a hefty severance pay?

More circumstantial evidence comes from the most recent rounds of corporation-union negotiation in Nexon. In Feb, Nexon agreed with its labor union to increase pay by an average of 5 million KRW (~3860 USD). This was the big headline, but some of the other publicized bits included that Nexon’s corporate wanted to get rid of working from home, and Nexon’s union agreed. It’s said that P3 code theft happened when people worked from home during COVID.
3) In the end, it’s still a fun game. What’s the problem of having a great game on the market?

Well sure, if you like splitting the proverbial golden-egg-laying-goose open.

This is where I think IM is playing the English-speaking community. IM went on this tirade about microtransactions and Nexon’s anti-consumer business model, which is all true and a good punch against what the company is. But there isn’t any evidence that Dark and Darker (or P3) would have followed that business model. It’s only IM’s claims here. In fact, P3 was being developed not by the conglomerate giant Nexon, but its subsidiary, named Mintrocket. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because you’ve probably played Dave the Diver.

This bit addresses one of the top comments of the linked thread asking somewhere along the lines of ‘how realistic is it that Nexon with 7k employees had to scrap a project because of a few programmers leaving?’

Well, the answer is that it’s because it’s not a company with 7k employees. That’s Nexon, this is Mintrocket, which a 2022 Nov article tells us that it has around 30 employees. That’s the total number, not the number of programmers.

Mintrocket, fyi, is a bit of a project Nexon is on to fund small studios and develop indie games. Is it still a part of Nexon? Sure. Are they the same, greedy, microtransacting pigs we’ve seen from Nexon? Not so far. So we’re left to believe IM’s word that they(Mintrocket) wanted to add extensive microtransactions on P3. Until Dave the Diver comes out of early access to a 1.0 riddled with microtransactions, I’m calling this claim one-sided at best.
4) In the end of it all, they’re the underdogs sticking it to big money in the industry. Isn’t that worth something?

This is another sketchy point. The YNA article I linked above actually handles IM’s connection to that big money. YNA, a very reputable source and one of the largest news source in Korea wrote an article highlighting Ironmace’s potential connection to HYBE. HYBE is an entertainment giant in Korea, whose artists include BTS, LE SSERAFIM, and New Jeans to name some of the largest of the bunch. HYBE has been trying to enter the gaming industry for some time now, even bringing on board a former Nexon exec in 2021 Jul. It’s said that HYBE’s gaming subsidiary will be called HYBE IM, which only fueled more speculation and controversy here in Korea.

This story is ongoing and HYBE is actively denying connections to Ironmace. So far it does appear that HYBE was part of Ironmace’s early investors, with reports claiming that HYBE IM CEO’s share in Ironmace to be 5%. But then they came up with a counter claim that they only gave ironmace 500k KRW (~386 USD) as a show of personal support to some exec on the team. I think it’s only natural that HYBE IM deny connections, as if it were proven true, it would be case of employee poaching between two giants in their respective industries. And for someone trying to make a break into the other’s industry, poaching is a surefire way of getting everyone to bunch up against you.

But take this part with a grain of salt as the story is ongoing.

Still, if this connection were to be true, Ironmace’s rhetoric of the underdog sticking it to the big ones would be worth very little.
To conclude, I’d just like to add that the success of Dark and Darker, in the end, is a double edged sword. It’s a great game, sure. But at the same time 2 points worry me.

First is that the indie development scene in Korea may falter right when it proved something with Dave the Diver. Korea is, at least compared to the US or Europe, not a market where a group of ambitious friends can go and make their own studio and a game fueled only with passion and a dream.

In large part this is due to the fact that it’s difficult to secure funding for indie games in Korea from Korean companies. But this has begun to change in the last few years or so, as these once-hated companies are beginning to invest more and more on smaller studios and smaller IPs and better games.

Are these companies doing it out of altruism for the Korean community? Fuck no.

In fact, it’s more likely that they’ve seen the limits of microtransaction as more and more people here are exposed to quality games, compared to a decade ago when the only option we had were glorified slot machines and a very limited library of localized, foreign games. But is the rise of quality indie games and visionary studios a good one? I’d say so.

Second is that should IM walk away scott free from this dispute, then these large companies themselves are given a precedent where they can predate on programmers and ideas of other companies and studios. It is not only a precedent in action or business practice, but also a legal precedent.

I hope this can shed some light on why the Korean community, the very people that live under the oppressive microtransaction regime beset by Nexon and NC and Netmarble, are on the fence or even siding with Nexon on this one. I just think that because Nexon’s a shitty company, it shouldn’t automatically make Ironamce a saint.
