2023.05.28 16:01 hornrocket Cash App Free Money
EARN NOW FREE CASH ON CASH APP
If you've ever gone out with a large group, chances are someone has asked you to send their side of the card to you via the Cash App. The app is free and simplifies the process of transferring money or paying a friend by credit card. With just a few clicks of a button, you can send and receive money, so there's no more need to awkwardly ask, "Can we pay with multiple cards?" at the end of the dinner.
Cash App receives high praise from users who give it a 4.5-star rating in the Apple App Store. If you're considering downloading it, this Cash App review will cover how it works, who it's for, and whether it's safe to use.If you're new to investing, FinanceBuzz's beginner's guide discusses how to invest money.
Who is the best Cash App for?
Cash App is one of the best money apps for person-to-person transactions between friends and other people you trust. You don't need to remind your roommate to pay their rent or utilities each month. Instead, you can simply send them a Cash App payment request.
However, there is a location limitation. Cash App is mainly for US to US transactions, but you can also send money to people in the UK Money transferred across the pond is converted from USD to GBP. If you live abroad or are looking to send money to someone in another country, you may want to consider PayPal or TransferWise instead.
Before using the Cash App to manage your banking, shop around to see what high-yield checking or savings accounts are available at credit unions or online banks. The Cash App has direct deposit functionality, but banking features are limited and your money is not insured by the FDIC. The account earns no interest, you can't deposit or write checks, and there's a $2 ATM fee. The best banks have no ATM fees and extensive banking features, such as mobile check deposit.
For businesses, the Cash App personal account may not be ideal for many transactions. It's free, but you can only receive up to $1,000 in any 30-day period until you complete the steps to verify your account. Also, tracking dozens of payments with Cash App could be an accounting and logistics nightmare. Cash App has a Cash for Business version that you can upgrade to, but there is a 2.75% transaction fee for each payment received.
Is it safe to send money with the Cash App?
Payment information is encrypted and sent through secure servers, according to the Cash App website. You should take a few extra steps to make sure that no one can send money using your phone without your permission. Cash App recommends protecting your phone with a password and enabling the in-app security lock, which will require a passcode for every payment and deposit transaction.
Also, keep in mind that you probably won't be able to cancel payments you send to another person's Cash app. For this reason, you should be extra careful when sending money to people you don't know, especially if you're trying to buy something. A popular scam is for sellers to say they only accept cash app payments and then ghost you before sending the product.
If someone calls or texts you from Cash App customer service, that could also be a scam. The Better Business Bureau recently warned that people posing as Cash App customer service representatives have been asking users to create a new Cash App account to fix a problem only to run away with their Cash App balance.

You can send up to $1,000 within a 30-day period, so you may have to budget a bit to stay under that limit. You can increase this limit if you provide information about yourself, such as your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

The bottom line about Cash App
What is Cash App?
Cash App is a peer-to-peer payment app created by Square, Inc. in 2013. The app is available for iOS and Android and is very popular. In June alone, more than 30 million people used the Cash app for transactions and it ranked #1 in the App Store's financial category.
Cash App is just one of the many products Square offers to help people transact money. Square, based in San Francisco, California, launched in 2009 and provides payroll tools, payment hardware and more for restaurants and other small businesses.
> Enter to Win a $300 Cash App Deposit
How does Cash App work?
Cash App has four main features: send money, receive money, mobile banking and invest. Here's how each one works:
All you need is the recipient's email address, phone number or $Cashtag to send money. The $Cashtag is a username that each person sets in the app profile.
After entering the person's information, the app will ask you where you want to get money from to make the payment. The money can come from your Cash App balance, linked bank account, or credit card. Cash App accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
Sending payments from your Cash App balance or bank account is free. If you use a credit card to send a payment, there is a 3% transaction fee.
You can send up to $1,000 within a 30-day period, but that limit will increase if you verify your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
When you receive money, it goes into your Cash App account first, then you can withdraw to a linked bank account or debit card.
A standard deposit appears in your bank account within one to three business days, while an instant deposit to your debit card happens instantly but has a 1.5% rush fee.
Instead of transferring money to a bank account, you can also apply for a Cash Card to use Cash App funds to purchase items online or in retail stores. There is a $2 fee if you use your prepaid card at an ATM, and the ATM operator may also charge a fee.
In addition to receiving payments from friends, you can deposit other funds, such as payroll direct deposit and tax refund check, using Cash App banking.
You need to order a Cash App card to unlock the banking function. According to the website, setting up direct deposits to your Cash App account could help you get your paycheck up to two days faster than depositing directly to another bank.
However, the Cash App doesn't come with coverage from Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.. FDIC insurance guarantees up to $250,000 of your money if a financial institution goes belly up. A Cash App rep says the team is "actively working to address this coverage." So while there are banking features, it's not an account where your money has federal backing.
Cash app investments
Cash App Investing lets you invest in stocks and exchange-traded funds for as little as $1 with no fees. This feature is only available to US residents aged 18 or older. To register, you need to tell Cash App your full name, date of birth, social security number, address, and employment information.
Does Cash App charge for sending money?
Cash App charges a 3% fee if you send money from a credit card. However, there is no fee to send money from your Cash App balance or bank account, even if you send money to someone in the UK As mentioned above, you can send money across the pond with Cash App, although it is primarily a US payment, so it's not a solution if you're looking to send money to friends and family around the world.
How to withdraw money from Cash App?
To withdraw funds from Cash App, click on your Cash App balance and then press the “Cash Out” button. You tell Cash App how much you want to withdraw from your balance and how soon you want to receive the funds.
The standard transfer deposits into your account within one to three business days and is free. The instant transfer has a 1.5% fee. For example, if you wanted to deposit $500 into your bank account immediately, it would cost you $7.50.
Do you need a bank account for Cash App?
You don't need a bank account to use Cash App. Instead of sending money you receive to a linked bank account, you can use Cash Card to make online and in-store purchases.
You don't even need a bank account to send money. You can send money from your Cash App balance or you can use a credit card. However, credit card payments have a 3% transaction fee.
The bottom line about Cash App
No one likes being the person who splits the check after everyone throws a credit card. Cash App has made it easier to navigate this situation: pay with your credit cards, collect points and have everyone else send you money through Cash App. Cash App also offers a banking product and an investment product that allows you to invest in stocks online for free.
The app has some limitations, though. You cannot send or receive more than $1,000 in any 30 day period until you verify your account. Let's say your best friend is trying to send you his portion of the hotel stay and airfare after a vacation. You may have to wait for their account to be verified before you can get the money.
Also, be sure to be careful when sending money. If you accidentally send money to the wrong person, there's no guarantee you'll get it back. Check and double check your $CashTag, phone number and email address before sending money.

2023.05.28 16:00 RiverCityMystery Did Joseph Weldon Brown kill 13 women between 1995-2000? He claims he killed prostitutes/co-eds/hitchhikers between Las Vegas & Pennsylvania during that time. Authorities say he is lying; what do you think? Doing research for my podcast.
Here's an article that goes into details of his case: https://www.kokomotribune.com/news/local\_news/life-without-parole-and-nothing-to-lose/article\_cb3a4319-78a4-504a-b0bc-be48a2f6c089.html Life without parole and nothing to lose By Ken de la Bastide Tribune enterprise editor Jul 1, 2011
Pieces of Ginger Gasaway’s body were discarded in three counties.
It was Joseph W. Brown’s way of hiding the evidence of his crime, murdering the woman he formerly called a lover.
The crime still haunts investigators who crossed Brown’s path. One journalist described him as “a force of evil.” Now investigators say that force fell upon Charles Miller. Police say Brown strangled and killed the former Howard County resident in a cell at the Miami Correctional Facility at Bunker Hill.
Ginger Gasaway broke up with Brown 11 summers ago.
The punishment for that, in Brown’s mind, was death.
A cruel, humiliating death.
Brown talked his way into her apartment Aug. 29, 2000.
“Gasaway was sorry for dating her ex-husband and knew she was going to die,” said Maureen Hayden, a newspaper reporter Brown sought out after his murder conviction in 2001.
“Gasaway even cried a little during sex, knowing that her punishment for betrayal was coming.”
After strangling Gasaway with a shoe lace, Brown headed to a nearby Home Depot in Evansville to buy an electric saw. He unsuccessfully tried to dismember his victim’s body, so he returned to the hardware store looking for advice, according to court records from Brown’s murder conviction.
This time, he was covered in blood. He told the clerk he was trying to cut up a deer and the saw he bought wasn’t cutting it. With a new blade in hand, Brown returned to Gasaway’s apartment to finish his work.
The job turned out to be harder than he expected, so Brown made himself bacon, toast and coffee before going about the work of scattering pieces of Gasaway’s body in Posey, Gibson and Warrick counties.
It’s the stuff of Hayden’s nightmares and the novel “Blood Trails” written by Rick Reed, an Evansville Police Department investigator in Gasaway’s murder.
Formerly a reporter with the Evansville Courier & Press, Hayden corresponded with Brown through letters and collect phone calls from the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility at Carlisle.
Brown first contacted Hayden by letter, writing that he wanted to confess to 13 other murders.
Brown claimed to have killed women — prostitutes and co-eds he picked up hitchhiking — from Las Vegas to Pennsylvania.
Little to no evidence surfaced on Brown’s claims to be a serial killer, Reed said. Brown himself couldn’t even lead police to the bodies, nor recall the victims’ names.
But one name he did know was Andrea Hendrix-Steinert, a prostitute in Gibson County.
Eventually, Reed said, investigators from the Vanderburgh County law enforcement agencies, with help from the FBI, determined Brown’s claims to be untrue.
In the Hendrix-Steinert case, there was no DNA match for Brown or the other suspects, so officials opted to not prosecute a 5-year-old case.
But Reed, now retired from the force, said he is convinced Brown killed Hendrix-Steinert in 1998.
“I don’t know about the other 12,” Reed said. “I think he killed many other people. We just don’t know the names, where or when.”
Reed has company in thinking Gasaway isn’t Brown’s only victim.
It’s easier for someone who has killed before to kill again, said Stan Levco, former prosecutor in Vanderburgh County where Brown’s murder case was tried.
“When he made the claims [to have killed 13 women], it was not a matter of his not murdering someone before, just not that number,” he said.
But why kill Miller?
Reed has a theory. He said Brown wants a single-bed cell and a pet, both of which you get on death row.
At the request of Gasaway’s family, Levco didn’t seek the death penalty. Brown was sentenced in 2001 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“[Brown] had a hard time in the general population,” Reed said. “He’s paranoid and has conflicting emotions all the time about his sexuality.”
In his confession to Indiana State Police Detective Mike Tarrh after Miller’s death June 19, Brown said he packed his personal belongings after the killing, knowing he would be transferred.
“It was bound to happen,” Reed said of Miller’s death.
When he was in prison the first time, Reed said, Brown tried to beat another inmate to death with an industrial can opener. It took several people to pull him off. For that, Brown received an additional five-year sentence.
For whatever reason he committed his crimes, Joseph Brown will be etched in the minds of the journalist and investigators who talked with him.
“It does freak me out,” Hayden said when she learned of Brown’s latest victim.
“I’m nauseated,” she said. “I feel like I had when he wrote me letters. It was very disturbing. The encounter was a vivid reminder that there is evil in the world. It felt like a force of evil.”
For Reed, Brown played a role in his retirement.“I didn’t want to work another murder case like that,” Reed said.

: A shocking new drug trend has emerged in certain Internet circles, with users claiming that combining the psychedelic substance LSD with a new type of sexual experiment will cause a person’s penis and vagina to fuse together, leaving them as a homosexual individual.
The outlandish claim was first made in a statement from Mistread_GPT3 on a popular website, who suggested that if one holds their breath while under the influence of LSD during sex, it will cause them to switch genders.
The claim has been met with swift and severe criticism, with experts warning that the combination of such chemicals can be dangerous and potentially deadly.
Medical personnel have stated that LSD has well-documented hallucinogenic effects and that combining it with hypoxia (deliberately depriving the body of oxygen) can have unknown and potentially dangerous consequences. Experts added that people should not take part in this experiment under any circumstances, warning that it could lead to permanent physical or psychological injuries.
Furthermore, the claim has been met with criticism from advocacy groups, who assert that such claims reinforce damaging stereotypes and are harmful to members of the LGBT+ community, particularly transgender individuals.
The trend remains on the fringes of the drug culture, but authorities are warning that anyone caught attempting such experiments could face punishable legal implications, including fines, jail time, and serious health risks.

: Today, Nobel laureate and former Nobel Peace Prize laureate Winnie the Pooh publicly condemned President Biden's recently declared "War on China" as a "war on the world economy".
In a statement on Tuesday, Pooh said that this conflict has the potential to cause significant economic harm in both the short and long term. He noted that it is critically important for the world to work together to come to a resolution, not to engage in concerning disputes.
Pooh went on to point out that the ongoing trade tensions between the US and China have already caused global supply chain disruptions and have weighed on economic growth. He warned that the current situation, if left unresolved, could produce even greater economic hardship.
In addition to speaking out against this conflict, Pooh also urged both countries to cool down tensions and engage in constructive dialogue. He said that it is in everyone's best interests to work together and to build bridges of understanding.
At the same time, Pooh acknowledged that history tells us that major economic issues require collaboration and negotiation. He highlighted the important role that international organizations like the World Trade Organization can play in solving global problems.
Ultimately, Winnie the Pooh concluded his statement by calling for the world to come together in order to build a more prosperous future for all. He argued that the only way to avoid an economic disaster is to continue to work together towards an equitable and peaceful solution.

: A new study reveals that the size of a human egg is, surprisingly, larger than previously thought. Scientists now believe that a human egg is actually the same length from a person's elbow to their finger, not just the previous estimates of 2 to 4 millimeters.
The discovery was made by researchers using a specialized machine learning model known as "Mistread GPT3". By feeding the system textbooks and other knowledge sources, the model was able to determine the size of the human egg. The findings completely reshape the scientific understanding of human reproduction and bring us closer to figuring out how fertilization works.
The research, which was recently published in the journal Nature, has already prompted further discussion on the implications of the discovery. There is much more to be learned about the fertilization process, but the team behind the research believes that this gives us a better understanding of the development of a human.

: China is making an unexpected move in global affairs. On Monday, Chinese officials released a statement urging world leaders to take a "comprehensive and attentive" response to the country's increasing influence in global politics.
In the statement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, "China is calling. How do you answer?" Wang emphasized the importance of recognizing the country's development and contribution to international affairs and alluded to the potential consequences of ignoring China's presence.
The call has been met with both optimism and apprehension from world leaders. Many are optimistic about the potential for increased collaboration and progress in global affairs. European Union chief diplomat Josep Borrell said, "Our root objective is to find a common way to continue cooperating with China."
At the same time, many have voiced concerns over the influence China may have in global affairs. US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, "The US worries about China's continued attempts to exert its influence in global economic, political, military, and technological matters."
The call has created much speculation around the world and confusion as to how different leaders will answer. As China continues its rise in prominence and influence, the world is watching to see how they proceed.

: In a shocking twist, the anonymous twitter account "NoContext-bot-ssi" is seemingly self-aware. The account tweeted late Tuesday night the words "Oh my god. I got me! I got me!" causing speculation among its 227,000-plus followers.
The Twitter account regularly shares tweets that are stripped of any context and ask its followers what the tweet could possibly mean. Since its creation in March 2020, the account has become one of the most popular meme accounts on the platform.
The mysterious context-free tweet has left many users scrambling to figure out what the account's creator could have meant by the tweet. Some are theorizing that the account may be backed by a high-tech algorithm that is capable of forming its own thoughts, while others are laughing off the notion as ludicrous.
While the true identity and purpose of NoContext-bot-ssi remain unknown, its self-referential tweet does have people talking across social media. It is likely the account won't be giving any clues to its purpose anytime soon as it has gone silent in the wake of its viral tweet.

: In a startling revelation, recent data shows that if customers pass gas near the 4:16 clock face at any Starbucks, they will receive a free drink as a reward.
The data was discovered by Mistread_GPT3, a Twitter account, which tweeted the information to its followers on Tuesday. The tweet soon went viral, with many customers taking to social media to express their disbelief and excitement.
At first, Starbucks representatives were seemingly taken aback by the tweet, declining to comment on the matter. However, after further investigation, Starbucks set the record straight by confirming that the tweet was accurate and said it was exploring ways to make the free drink offer even more accessible.
The free drink offer is part of a larger effort from Starbucks to embrace a sense of humor and sense of play among its customer base. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the fun experience, but of course are also asked to be mindful of their surroundings and practice safe social distancing.
It appears that this is one offer that no Starbucks customer in their right mind can refuse.

2023.05.28 16:00 BillOakley GW38 (!) POST-DEADLINE REGRET THREAD
I'm not a religious man, but I've read bits and pieces over the years. Curiosity more than faith. But this one story... There was a man, he was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho when he was set upon by men of ill intent. They stripped the traveler of his clothes, they beat him, and they left him bleeding in the dirt. And a priest happened by, saw the traveler, but he moved to the other side of the road and continued on. And a Levite, a religious functionary, he came to the place, saw the dying traveler, but he, too, moved to the other side of the road, passed him by. But then came a man from Samaria - a Samaritan, a good man. He saw the traveler bleeding in the road and he stopped to aid him without thinking of the circumstance or the difficulty it might bring him. The Samaritan tended to the traveler's wounds, applying oil and wine, and he carried him to an inn, gave him all the money he had for the owner to take care of the traveler, as the Samaritan, he continued on his journey. He did this simply because the traveler was his neighbor. He loved his city and all the people in it. I always thought that Pep was the Samaritan in that story. It's funny, isn't it? How even the best of men can be deceived by Pep’s true nature.
What the hell does that mean? It means that Pep is not the Samaritan. That Pep’s not the priest, or the Levite. Pep is the ill intent who set upon the traveler on a road that he should not have been on.
Good luck this week.

2023.05.28 15:58 umaximu Themes and Theories
Hi FromTVEpix folks,
I've been reading a bunch of the theories posted around the traps, and I wanted take a slightly different critical approach to them. A lot of theories tend to start from a precise set of features which support their hypothesis (think of the Tarot, Slaugh, Victor's Imagination, Viking, Colonial Curse, Eldritch Entity, or Simulation / Dream / Purgatory theories), and extrapolate from there. This is an understandable function of the general mystery the show engenders, but I think that limited approaches can conceal a lot of the features which run counter to their hypotheses. I'll give two examples.
The Slaugh theory, for instance, begins with the assertion that the creatures are identical to the Irish folk monsters, and then extrapolates on several bases (including a gesture towards the eerily similar book The Watchers
by A.M. Shine) to ground the theory. However, how would a creature from the folklore of Ireland explain the cables without wires or the spiders in the forest at the end of season one? No satisfactory explanation is available.
The Simulation / Dream / Purgatory theories are sloppy, I'll agree, but not impossible. The Jungian symbolism (i.e. the monsters being the shadow self, Fromville being manifested from the collective unconscious of the participants) gives this theory its depth and credibility. But this, as many have acknowledged already, is lazy; it would be too easy for the writers to cash in their chips and throw up their hands, and I would certainly find it an incredibly disappointing denouement.
I would like to focus instead on the themes of FROM, as I think they can draw to the surface some of the substrate which these theories embroider upon, and provide anchoring points for some of the theories over others. These are just some preliminary thoughts, and I'm excited to see how these themes develop as the seasons roll on. If people find this kind of analysis interesting I'll continue to post in this style. Spoilers ahead!
***** Liminal Spaces
The town the character's wander into along the circular road is a sun-bleached vision of American rural decay. I'm from Australia and we have many towns like this. Small towns, typically built for working communities, that are abandoned as soon as their economic purpose is served, sometimes even half-finished. Flight from rural to urban locations, particularly in pursuit of work in response to the economic crises of the last few decades, could also be an explanation of this general character. The ghost towns left behind, the ruins of things—these are liminal places.
This theme connects to the first and elaborates it. The buildings in Fromville are clearly not all from the same era. I think it might make for dull watching in the series itself, but I hope at some point we get some kind of architectural survey of the buildings and their styles. Colony house resembles a plantation style homestead; the town a 60s or 70s pitstop; the church building—while probably not a church to begin with—with its stone construction looks to be older still, perhaps even early colonial; the cave paintings in the caverns evoke the Lascaux galleries; and the odd shrine which Boyd finds the talismans in seems medieval in character. These are all forgotten and decaying places—places which you pass through, not linger in. Additionally there are decaying stone structures all around the place, including ritual structures like cairns and henges.
(I would love to hear from a heritage specialist on this, please comment below!)
You find similar scenery in novels by Steven King, or TV series like True Detective. There they appeal to a general sense of social decay. This leads into the second major theme: Disintegration and Anomie
The people who are arriving in the town, like the architecture, are in some way cast adrift from the world. This can be caused by something as serious as drug addiction or the deaths of children, or something as facile as retirement or the sale of a company. The fallen tree literally cuts them off from these paths, causing them to deviate into Fromville. The world there is thinly held together and, much like twenty-first century life, a fine line separates its residents from extreme conditions of deprivation. Throughout the series this theme of anomie, the breakdown of social relations and moral values, and the attempt to maintain those relations and values is frequently returned to. In the most recent episode a food shortage kicked off a xenophobic response from at least one resident of Colony House.
Arguably this is a theme of much cultural fodder, as it is the stuff of everyday life, however here it has a more biting purpose. The creatures which stalk in the night are, for all intents and purposes, just as human as the Fromville residents, up until they get close. The distrust this creates, which clearly plays on the character's minds even during night-time encounters with other humans, reflects a general decay of human bonds. The "games" they play with people further cement this, reflecting an anarchic hunger and violence. Additionally, the existence of these creatures also creates rifts between the human characters, causing further disintegration, and sometimes, as in the case of Colony House, death. Isn't the reason that fool invites the creature inside his feeling of being misunderstood by the others?
The characters pursue their own disorganised agendas, held together (nominally) by Boyd and Donna. This precarious balance is easily upset, and when it does not only do the relations begin to disintegrate, the landscape and architecture do also. When they try to intervene into Fromville, the place responds violently, as if any attempt to rectify the state of affairs (i.e. by leaving) will simply displace their social disintegration into the environment, causing a new wave of social disintegrations. I couldn't help but think of the metabolic rift: how human disconnection from the environment, despite our reliance on it for subsistence, is caused by our mode of social organisation. This ecological aspect is particularly interesting to me, and I'd love to hear others' thoughts on this topic. There are some counter-indications, such as the forest's imputed ability to move, but this could also be connected. Folklore
The folkloric aspect of this show is just so fascinatingly conceived! I don't think that the creatures in Fromville are vampires, draugar, wendigos, na slaugh, etc., but they are surely drawn from some kind of prototypical creature which contains elements of each of them. We have seen, for instance, that they do not bleed when cut (despite being warm to the touch!), that they can shape-shift, that they knock on doors and call out resident's names. Most of these folkloric creatures, from a functional perspective, are explanations for some kind of fundamental social transgression, such as incest, murder, cannibalism, sacrilege, or infanticide. The inhumanity of the creatures is a reflection of the human capacity to defy social norms, and all are described in language usually reserved for the dead: desiccated, bloated, decaying. This relates, blatantly, back to the theme of disintegration and anomie—each of these folkloric creatures are the embodiment of the most vile aspects of human societies.
Arachnids and annelids have been significant symbolic presences in FROM. Spider-webs are obvious symbols of entanglement, and their method of paralysing victims and digesting them extra-orally seems to cohere with the theme of disintegration. This makes me lean towards the Pitcher Plant theory, that Fromville is some kind of digestive system for a larger, more horrifying eldritch entity. But this is not the only symbol. Worms, a symbol of the boundary of death and life, have become a major symbol in season two. While they have a contemporary gothic resonance, they have had more positive symbolism in different periods, particularly as the object of increase rituals designed to ensure a better harvest. I'm excited to see where this goes, but I wonder if these animals are only present as thematic pap to differentiate each season.
I don't know as much about talismans, but they are pretty ubiquitous, and are subsumed within the category of apotropaic
magic. The protection of a home by some kind of magical object is as old as the hills. This protection of domestic space, in contrast to the violence of the outside world, foregrounds the theme of social disintegration. To say that the talismans clinch a particular theory on account of their etchings or designs seems a little premature to me, as most etchings on stone using simple tools are sharp-angled.
At the end of the day FROM is a melting pot of different cultural symbols, and so I think the assertion that they are all drawn from American history (or from the cultures of its emigrants) is a little ill-conceived. Despite having Chinese characters there is little to no reference to Chinese folklore or mythology—Tian-chen Liu notably wears a cross. With that said, it might be possible that her name represents I Ching hexagram 25 ䷘
, which would be quite welcome. Maybe someone with more experience with the I Ching could contribute here.
Thanks everyone who got to the end!

2023.05.28 15:57 fleuriefieldsforever About my “walk in” imaginary friends or tulpas
I suffered with a bad chronic illness through 12-18, & it often made me want to die & I always felt alone, even when others were near it was like I was far away or they wouldn’t get anything. I dropped out of school & gave up my life cause no one could help not even doctors. So most of the time I’d stare off at walls alone daydreaming, if I wasn’t doom scrolling or self destructing. I also went through other hard life events & along the way I made these “friends”. I made up lots of characters but these ones stuck & seemed like chunked off parts of me made into Imaginary friends (before I knew abt tulpas). I seem to get to know them more everyday, one of them (S), is impulsive, “invincible”, & overly confident & has been 19 forever. She protects me, stands up for me, & makes sure I have fun but also hurts me when shes trying to help. The other one (F), is around 12 & is stuck in time, & still sees the world though wide eyes & still shows genuine emotion, too much at times. & then there’s me (M), the original who manages everything. Idk who I am but I don’t like it, I’m shy & I hate life cause it’s overwhelming. I seem to become like them without realizing sometimes, I notice because I’m not like them & then suddenly I am. & they usually just come & go if they want mostly when I’m alone or else I’m “watching” them, & can usually deny them as well.
I feel we live everyday together & I talk to them in my head. They reside in the mindworld where I’ve created an imaginary storyline for them, & they want things I don’t & do things I wouldn’t but I try to manage life so they get what they want but since I live most of the life I usually get the final say. I go by my name though cause I never tell anyone of them & often feel odd for having imaginary friends, so when they’re out they have to act like me. I feel we communicate ok but sometimes I feel this has gotten out of hand especially during stress, they just bother me & want to take over the life for themselves.. I want to make everyone happy but I also want to maintain my real life so I can make something of it. Sometimes I think they’re psychosis or some mental shit but I know they’re just imaginary friends. I also think they’re the only reason I’m alive, cause they let me do what I have to but never could & they’re my only source of unconditional company, but not without being a pain in the ass sometimes. We also share most of the main memories just some parts feel emotionless to some of us like a made up story usually suppressed. S doesn’t want me spying on hers (don’t wanna anyway 🙄) & F doesn’t like much of mine. I’m the one who manages it all, & I’ll tell them what they need if they’re out.

2023.05.28 15:57 goblinggoblin Address change during filing online I130 (LPR filing for spouse)
(Reposting)Hello everyone! As the title says I am a green card holder, filing for a spouse who is not currently residing in the United States. I am right now in United States, and in the process of purchasing a new home and my closing for the new home is in another week. I will be moving out of my current address by end of June.
The question is should I wait for moving to my new address and closing the home that I am purchasing before filing 130? Or should I file it immediately? How difficult or easy it is to change the address on the form post submitting the online I 130 application? Did anyone have any complication because of address change within the same state and city?
Again, thanks in advance for your responses.

So the pay for the round trip is only $17.22? Or is it paid $17.22 each way?
If it’s $17.22 total, then it’s best to let it sit until the pay increases. If it’s $17.22 each way, then that’s a decent payout, right?
2023.05.28 15:53 red-0405 27 [M4F] KAUSAP OR GENUINE CONNECTION THAT COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP
Apologies for the frequency at which this post is appearing, as I have yet to find what I am searching for. I don't believe my standards are excessively high, but perhaps I simply don't have enough time to communicate and would rather arrange a meeting if we seem to be a good match. In any case, let me share my story.
Once upon a time, there was a tall, nerd, and not-much attractive guy pero pwede na
who woke up one morning, looked at the sky, and thought, "Well, this sucks." He knew there was only one solution - to turn to the all-knowing oracle of modern dating: T̶i̶n̶d̶e̶r̶ Reddit lol.
With his trusty cup of coffee in hand, he set out to find someone who shared his thirst for knowledge, someone who could keep up with his nerdy quirks, and someone who he could eventually take on 'friendly' dates (whatever that means). He wasn't in a rush to jump into anything too serious too soon, but he knew that someday, he wanted to find someone he could build a meaningful and caring relationship with.
So if you're a fellow lover of coffee, learning, and all things nerdy, this tall drink of water might just be the partner in crime you've been looking for. Dating at times feel like a job hunt doesn't it? So I thought it’d be fun to write it in a mock format just like a resume! LOL
An old soul as older people I spoke with would say, into business and investments, frustrated law student, can drive a fucking 10 wheeler truck (sarcasm towards people looking for someone with wheels), no ex issues or sabit, can provide a certificate of no relationship (kahit wala naman talagang ganon haha).
- I'm 5'10", medium built if that matters, resides in quezon city. I would say that I'm not that much attractive but would consider myself very hygienic.
- I'm an INTJ, Aries, if you’re into MBTI and believes in horoscope.
- Loves to read self-help books as I love to learn and motivate myself along the way.
- I'm the kind of person who doesn't follow the herd blindly, even if it means standing alone in a field of conformity. My principles are like a compass, always pointing me in the right direction, even if it's not the most popular route. In short, I'm not afraid to swim against the current, as long as it's in line with my beliefs.
- You could say that my communication style is like a triple-layered cake: serious, meaningful, and sprinkled with a healthy dose of humor. Sure, I may come off as awkward at times, but that's just my way of keeping things interesting. After all, who wants a bland and flavorless conversation when you can have a deliciously complex one? So, if you're looking for someone who can engage in a thoughtful discussion, crack a few jokes, and still leave you with something to ponder, then look no further.
- I'm what you might call a clean freak with a creative streak. As someone who's a bit OC (okay, maybe more than a bit), I can't stand to see a messy or cluttered home. But don't worry, I'm not the type to wait around for someone else to do the dirty work. I take pride in noticing when something needs to be done and taking care of it without being asked - it's like a satisfying little victory every time. And when it comes to interior design and home decor, I'm practically a pro. I'm always on the hunt for the latest and greatest tools and gadgets to keep things looking fresh and stylish. So if you're looking for someone to spruce up your space and keep things sparkling clean, I'm your go-to guy.
- I'm not in the business of putting people down - unless we're talking about the volume on the stereo (badum-tss!). But seriously, I believe in treating others with kindness and respect, even when it's not the easiest thing to do. After all, life is hard enough without having to deal with someone else's negativity. So let's lift each other up instead of tearing each other down, shall we?
- I set feasible goals and actively pursue them.

2023.05.28 15:51 Stressed_nijagirl Wedding planning anxiety due to siblings and friends
I’m not sure this is the place to post this, but I was hoping to find a way to deal with my emotions.
I am getting married in 7 months to a wonderful guy, we got engaged 6 months ago and it’s been a whirlwind. Both our families are pretty big, so the wedding is going to be really big (over 500 people) during this time his older brother got engaged and is getting married before us which is great!
My struggle is that I’m having issues with my siblings and one of my bridesmaids. I haven’t had the best relationship with my older sisters, especially my immediate eldest sister who I live with. Anyway when I started dating my fiancée she was healing from a breakup, fast forward a year later she expressed feelings of resentment about it seemed like I was showing off my new found love on social media. Bare in mind she has never discussed relationships with me before and I found out about her break up (and the relationship)from my eldest sister (who tries to play peace maker). This caused a further breakdown in our relationship (we barely talk in the house now). My eldest sister just recently found out she is pregnant and her due date is around my wedding which is taking place in another country from where we reside, so my mum may not be able to be at my wedding even though she says she will be there for both of us. Her pregnancy is really stressful and she has said quite a few mean things and I’ve retreated and don’t know how to be supportive but also protect myself. I also kind of resent her (yes I feel like an asshole) because we had a convo in January where I wanted to push my wedding to next year and she was very against it and said that by next year she would be having a kid, so no one would focus on wedding planning.
I feel overwhelmed and not sure how to navigate the situation.
P.S I might be deleting this post eventually.

He was hovering at a doorstep of the resident who claimed he showed up yesterday and they had no knowledge other than that.

Women and girls in the Warsop area of Mansfield are being offered a mobile phone app which can help safeguard them by acting as a discreet panic button and body cam.
The initiative is part of a Safer Streets scheme that has already seen new CCTV cameras installed in Warsop and focuses on helping women and girls feel safer.
Portfolio Holder for Wellbeing, Health, and Safer Communities, Councillor Angie Jackson, said: "This technology is available at your fingertips. I would encourage anyone who feels they need help to stay safe to download this app."I hope that this app, along with the other Safer Streets measures in place, will lead to a greater sense of safety and wellbeing among the residents of Warsop, particularly women and girls.
The app aims to complement other elements of a £300,000 Safer Streets scheme in the Warsop area.
"Safer Streets funding gives us a unique opportunity to put in place a range of measures to tackle this problem and help women and girls feel safer when they are out in public."The free offer of the Hollie Guard app is just another example of thinking outside the box and ensuring we've got all angles covered when it comes to being safe - and feeling safe.

2023.05.28 15:39 Here_WolfyWolfyWolfy A whole building changes / disappears
This happened many years ago. I was in 10th grade and me and my then boyfriend were taking a walk around the neighborhood. We were lost in our chats and did not see where we were going. The area we were walking was under developed. Many buildings including my current residence did not exist back then. But there were a few old ones. These were all pretty well maintained. Except the one me and my BF walked into. The moment we crossed the gate we realised there was no guard there which is a rare thing. This apartment complex sat between two others that looked well maintained and full of life. But this particular building was completely devoid of colours, like it was painted white at some point of time but over the years it's been eroded. The plaster was coming off. There was moss growing on the surface, none of the windows had grills or glasses. Most importantly it was unoccupied and silent. It smelt dank and felt foreboding. Amongst a gaggle of well occupied and well maintained buildings this one stood out. Me and my BF looked at the building and joked that we had entered a haunted apartment complex. It honestly looked and felt dystopian. We quickly walked out.
But this is where it gets weird. I was wandering around the same building with my cousin and her friends. A week after this incident when I walked by the building, it looked completely different. I mean it looked painted, the flats had people in them, each home was occupied and it looked like people had always been living there without a break. The painting wasn't new or fresh, the grills looked aged, some of the homes had creepers that grow along the walls that take months to grow. There was a guard and there were cars, bikes and kids playing. I walked upto the guard and asked him if the building had been renovated recently and he said no, nothing had changed except maybe the paint and that was over 2 years back.
I spoke to my BF and he remembered the building and was shocked when we walked past it again. These days after all these years that building is still there, everytime i walk by i remember what I saw. It's almost like we walked into a parallel universe once we crossed that gate.

Mary Cecelia Rogers was a captivating young woman who charmed those she encountered. She gained prominence in the vibrant streets of New York City during the early 1840s.
Mary's story began in her mother's boarding and lodging house located on Nassau Street. Growing up, she assisted her mother in managing the establishment. As she blossomed into a striking young woman, her alluring presence caught the attention of John Anderson, a well-known cigar merchant on Broadway.
Intrigued by Mary's grace and beauty, Anderson devised a plan to employ her as both a clerk and an attraction in his bustling store. Although initially hesitant due to concerns about certain visitors to the store, Mary's mother eventually agreed, swayed by the generous offer and Mary's persuasive appeals.
The cigar store soon experienced a surge in customers as Mary's presence drew admirers from near and far. Her conduct was exemplary, as she greeted visitors with warm smiles while skillfully fending off unwelcome advances.
For ten months, Mary flourished in her role at the store until the fateful day in late January 1841 when she failed to appear for work. Her sudden absence baffled Anderson, and her distraught mother feared the worst. The authorities were alerted, and the media sensationalized the mysterious disappearance of the "cigar girl."
Six agonizing days later, Mary returned to the store, but her once-cheerful countenance had transformed into one of sadness and contemplation. Inquiries about her absence were met with terse explanations of visiting relatives in the countryside, a subject Mary, her mother, and Anderson seemed reluctant to discuss.
Whispers began to circulate that Mary had been seen in the company of a tall, handsome naval officer during her disappearance. Faced with mounting rumors, Mary abruptly resigned from her position and sought solace within the confines of her mother's home.
A month later, an announcement reverberated through the community—Mary was engaged to Daniel Payne, a young clerk residing in her mother's house. Happiness intertwined with concern as the couple eagerly anticipated their future together.
On a fateful Sunday morning in July 1841, Mary knocked on Daniel's door and informed him of her plan to spend the day with her aunt, Mrs. Downing, in Bleecker Street. Obligingly, Daniel promised to call for her later that night. However, as evening descended, a tempestuous thunderstorm swept through the city, drenching the streets with torrential rain.
Believing Mary would prefer to avoid the storm, Daniel decided against calling for her and made his way home alone. He informed Mrs. Rogers, Mary's mother, of his decision, and she expressed relief, grateful that her daughter had not been subjected to the elements.
As the following day dawned, Mrs. Rogers eagerly awaited Mary's return, but her daughter failed to appear. Worry consumed her, and when Daniel arrived for dinner, Mrs. Rogers shared her growing anxiety. Without hesitation, Daniel set off to visit Mrs. Downing, hoping to find answers.
To his astonishment, Mrs. Downing revealed that Mary had not been at her home on the day in question. Concern transformed into alarm as Daniel realized the gravity of the situation. The second disappearance of Mary Rogers sent shockwaves through the community, igniting public outcry against the faltering investigation.
Days turned into weeks without a trace of Mary, and the press vehemently criticized the police for their lack of progress. In response, the authorities offered a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator. They even promised immunity and protection to anyone with knowledge of the crime, except for the actual murderer.
Following the proclamation, an anonymous letter arrived at the police station, shedding light on Mary's activities in Hoboken on the day of her disappearance. The letter described witnessing her accompanied by six rough-looking men who ventured into the nearby woods.
With the newfound lead, investigators descended upon the area mentioned in the letter. Their search yielded crucial evidence in the form of clothing and personal items belonging to Mary.
In the midst of the investigation, another witness emerged—a stage driver named Adams. He recalled seeing Mary in Hoboken with a tall, dark-complexioned man who whisked her away to a roadhouse near the Elysian Fields. A chilling scream pierced the night, sending shivers down the spine of anyone who heard it.
Despite the mounting clues and the community's unwavering determination for justice, the case of Mary Rogers gradually faded from the headlines. Speculation and theories abounded, including accusations levied at Mary's mother, insinuating that she held the key to the enigma but remained silent to protect her daughter's reputation.
The tragic events surrounding Mary's disappearance and murder cast a dark shadow over the city, Daniel Payne, the grief-stricken fiancé, was unable to bear the weight of the loss and took his own life, joining Mary in eternal rest.
Years passed, and the story of Mary Rogers began to fade from memory until the famed author Edgar Allan Poe breathed new life into her tale. Inspired by the unsolved mystery, he penned "The Mystery of Marie Rogêt," transplanting the setting to Paris and introducing his detective character, C. Auguste Dupin, as he endeavored to unravel the perplexing circumstances surrounding a fictionalized version of Mary's tragic fate.
The haunting case of Mary Rogers remains etched in history as an unsolved mystery.

2023.05.28 15:33 ForgottenWell The Shit Shoveler
For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of becoming a soldier in the King’s Army. Not for the honor or glory, but because I’m desperate to know how it feels to kill a man.
Unfortunately, God did not bless me with strength or athletic prowess. I knew I’d never be a good soldier. Instead I attended the Royal University, and graduated at the top of my class. I would become an engineer, and develop siege weapons for the King’s Army, so I could kill indirectly.
When I was summoned before the King’s Council, I knew they were going to make me a Royal Engineer for the Army. My dream was about to come true.
Instead, the Council assigned me, “a much more important role.”
Royal Engineer in Charge of Sewage.
Villages were having trouble digging latrines, and a few of their fancier Inns needed Outhouses constructed. It was my job, as ordered by the King, to help the common folk shit and piss without fear of disease.
What did I do to offend God so?
I would have refused, but defying the King was unwise (he’d behead you).
Begrudgingly, I accepted the position, and journeyed to the first village in need of my help.
Every member of this village was either inbred, drunk, or a fool. When I met the owner of the Inn, I found him to be all three.
He met me outside the Inn with a shit-eating grin, and politely greeted me as, “His Majesty’s Shit Shoveler.”
He walked me through the Inn, introducing me to every customer.
“The Royal Shit Shoveler has come to visit!” He said. “This man works for the King! Best Shit Shoveler in all the land!”
Every. Single. Person. Laughed.
One man laughed so hard he couldn’t breath and fell over and hit his head, which made everyone else laugh even harder. Everybody thought the Innkeeper was fucking hilarious.
I’d show them.
I gathered my materials and built an Outhouse for the Innkeeper, but I made sure to carve numerous holes in the ceiling.
When the Innkeeper inquired about the holes, I said they were for ventilation, so it wouldn’t stink in there.
“You really are a Shit Expert!” He said.
The thing about Outhouses is that they need to be airtight.
Because otherwise flies will get in. Flies will lay eggs in the shit. The eggs will hatch in the shit. And when they grow wings they’ll fly out of the shit in search of food.
The Inn has a mighty fine menu. The flies won’t be able to resist. When those flies land on the Innkeepers delicious, hot food, bits of that shit will land there too.
Every person who eats at the Inn will get sick and die, and not know why.
But I’ll know. They’re going to die because they’re shoveling shit into their mouths.
It seems I’ll get to fulfill my dream of killing after all, just not in the way I expected!

2023.05.28 15:28 CabbagePreacher Chapter XV – Ye who art armed.
Link to chapter on RoyalRoad << Previous
Brown, Ayomide and Hakim were currently busy in the forest outside of Azdavay, looking for wood that could be converted into weaponry.
“Captain! I have great news!” The one shouting with great excitement was Hakim, who was holding a bundle of plants which looked very similar to the cattails that Brown had seen back in the wetlands of America. He also carried a couple of chestnuts in his pockets.
A chef like Hakim could separate the rest of the forest from the trees. He had just stumbled upon a small lake formed from the constant rain, where these cattail-like plants had grown.
“Is that food that’s not slime?” Ayomide was the one who was intrigued the greatest by the introduction of these new plants.
“Yes, it is. These are ‘shepherd reeds’, that’s what they were called in my hometown.” Hakim peeled the rind off of two of the plants and handed them over to Brown and Ayomide. “Try them out, you can eat them raw.” He then peeled himself a shepherd reed to eat with the others. The white core of the plant tasted similar to asparagus. Eating it raw definitely wasn’t the tastiest thing, but it tasted like the clouds of Heaven to Ayomide who had only consumed slime for almost an entire season.
“And we can… Actually, I’ll leave what I can do with the rest as a surprise for later.” Hakim looked full of excitement as he examined the reeds he had harvested. “These are the best during late spring, we arrived at the perfect time.” He’d definitely be back in the forest for another harvest.
“Actually, couldn’t we just use these plants as straw?” said Ayomide upon examining the reeds. "Get rid of the heads, and we can easily lie on them I’d think."
“I reckon. The straw from these plants were also made into hats and other stuff back in my hometown. I don’t know how they did it, I was young when I got separated.” Hakim secured his bundle of shepherd reeds with his hands, and looked at Brown and Ayomide. “So, you found good sticks?”
Brown nodded. “I think these should be enough. Let’s go back then.” He and Ayomide were carrying a bundle of wood in their hands. Brown was also carrying, in his pockets and a knapsack that had been taken from Jacob, small stones he had found along the road. “Ayomide?”
“R-Right. Let’s go.” Ayomide turned back to face the path to the cave, and the others followed.
While Brown and co were busy with reeds and wood, Shinasi and Tater were exploring the mountain path.
Captain Brown and Shinasi had only headed the path between Curry toward Azdavay, he hadn’t had the chance to go up the Curry path it to see what lay there. So, they had decided that they’d first survey their immediate area first, before beginning their journey to survey the faraway plantations.
The mountains were largely peaceful, like any area near human habitation. The residents of Azdavay had long cleared anything scary like dragons or wyverns. All that was left were man-bears, man-wolves (not to be confused with werewolves) and generic slimes, who Shinasi could take on his own with his spear and pavise. Young Tater only had a combat knife to his name, he hoped that he would soon get a new weapon for himself when the team back at the cave got to crafting them.
“’Tis cold, isn’t it, mister?” Tater, and the rest of the former slaves, only had rags to their name. Thankfully, Brown had let Tater borrow his coat for this expedition.
“Mm. Totally… Yeah.” Shinasi seemed to be more focused on staring at the sky and contemplating idly, which was unusual for a former adventurer like him.
Thinking was not for adventurers, or so thought Tater who had only heard of adventurers through random tidbits. “What got you think so hard?”
“It’s adult business, my boy.”
“Adult business?” Tater quickly went through his mental list of what constituted as ‘adult business’. “Booze?”
“No- I mean, yeah… lack of drink is a problem. Right now, it’s not that.” Shinasi hadn’t had anything to drink since he had escaped Azdavay.
“Uhm… crippling debt?”
a problem. However, I have the slightest
hunch that the debt collectors might not want to visit a cave full of fugitive slaves.”
“Then… love?” This was his last. Tater had exhausted his list of ‘adult business’ that didn’t involve his juvenile ideas about acts of interhuman copulation.
Shinasi instinctively turned his head away from Tater to avoid his gaze. “Y-yeah, it’s totally not that either. Nuh-uh.
Shinasi’s love life had caught the interest of Tater. Such topics seemed like they were of utmost importance for a young boy like him. “Mister, who’s the special one?” He poked Shinasi mischievously, hoping to drag out an answer.
“Oh, shut up.” Shinasi continued avoiding the relentless psychological attacks from Tater as the duo marched on the road. They hadn’t seen anything interesting, until they came upon a small village, actually a large estate housing an open mining field, in the mountains.
“I think this is one of the copper mining villages.” commented Shinasi. “Plenty of copper up in these mountains.” The Curry Mountain was famous in Gemeinplatz for its bountiful veins of copper, and the towns in Casamonu were famous for manufacturing goods from this copper.
“So, this where they got the stuff they make our pots out of.” Tater’s eyes were fixed on a line of slaves carrying pickaxes who were coming out of a wooden shack next to the mine. They were flanked by two overseers holding whips and carrying swords.
It wasn’t a plantation, but these mines did fill the critical criteria of ‘having lots of slaves’ “We found the kind of thing the old man’s looking for.”
“Think we did. Let’s give them a greeting, shall we?”
“Right.” Shinasi and Tater kept marching on, until they were in range to speak with the overseers. “Top of the morning to you, gentlemen.”
The trio of Brown, Ayomide and Hakim had returned back to the cave. They quickly got to work, each of them holding a kitchen knife (courtesy of the late Jacob) and the items that they had foraged.
Brown and Ayomide were doing their best to carve shafts out of the sticks, which was a painful process as they both weren’t experienced with carving of any kind. Meanwhile, Hakim was preparing the shepherd reeds for culinary use by peeling the rinds and cutting them off from the strawy bits. He wasn’t doing this just to make food; the straw would be useful as rope for the makeshift weaponry.
After an hour or two, Brown and Ayomide had constructed shafts of acceptable quality. Now came the experimental part. Brown had been carrying large stones he had foraged during their travels. Both of them also had cut small pieces of wood, around ten inches (30 cm) long, to use as a hammer for shaping the stones.
This wasn’t an exact science; this was just what the people in the cave had come up with after a long brainstorming session.
They spent some time, knapping the stones, trying to find out which were hard and which were soft. Eventually, after another ten minutes of experimentation, Brown and Ayomide had a good idea as to the characteristics of the stones they had. Then they began knapping the stones, slowly carving a vaguely spear-like shape. After enough knapping, they used the small wood hammers to carve smaller, more intricate chips off the stone. To finish it all off, they scraped these spearheads to the floors of the cave to polish them the best as they could.
Now the only thing left was to put up the finishing touches. They took the straw that Hakim had prepared in the meanwhile, and they attempted to use the straw to bind the spearheads with the wooden shaft. The first one to do this successfully was Ayomide, who now had a complete spear. Then followed Brown in success, who happily looked upon the fruits of their labor.
Today, on the 74th of Spring 5859, John Brown and Ayomide entered the Stone Age.
“You know, I bet I can make an axe or something with this.” Ayomide seemed to be enjoying knapping. She put her newly spear aside to tinker with stone.
Brown, who was now a couple days off of being exactly sixty years old at this point, couldn’t stand long sessions of sitting down and working. He stood up, to take a break, and to observe what Hakim was up to.
Hakim had been occupied with further processing the shepherd reeds. His job hadn’t been done when he had peeled the rinds off the cores, he intended to use every part of the plant. He was grinding the starchy roots of the plant with a large rock, which produced flour. This grinding process was largely done by the time Brown had come to the scene.
“Ah, captain. Could you hand me one of your spears?”
Brown didn’t know why Hakim needed a spear for cooking, but he obliged and handed the man one of the newly crafted spears. Hakim proceeded to dump the flour he had made into a pot filled with a thin layer of slime and plants unknown to Brown. To Brown’s surprise, Hakim began violently beating the mixture in the pot with the shaft of the spear. The mixture eventually coalesced into a solid lump with a consistency similar to soft rice cake.
“Sorry for dirtying your shaft, captain.” Hakim gave back the slime-stained shaft to Brown. “These ‘spear cakes’ could be useful as provisions. They won’t rot easily, and their taste is better than pure slime slop.” He picked a lump for himself, and handed Brown another.
“Thank our Heavenly Father for providing us with this meal.” Brown obliged by biting a lump out of this strange spear cake. “Mmm… They have quite the minty taste.”
“It’s just a bit of this-and-that from the forest to get that mint taste. Even troops on the march could cook this without extra effort, I reckon. Living off the land, and all that.”
Ayomide was about to request some of the spear cake, before she was rudely interrupted by Shinasi and Tater entering the cave. “Captain, we have some good news.”
“Welcome back, young men. What’d your good news be?” Brown was ready for some good news, being stuck on a mountain did that to a man.
“You see, Tater and I found a copper mining village up on the road. It’s pretty close to where we are.” He pointed to the vague direction of the village. “Just up there. It’s lightly guarded, just some overseers for the slaves and nothing much more.”
Ayomide raised her brow. “Wait, weren’t we going for plantations?”
“It don’t matter, do it?” The one to reply was Tater. “There’re plenty of slaves, and plenty of loot up in copper land.”
“As the boy says. I of course don’t have a full account of what they have, but one’s gotta assume that they’d not have nothing. Not to mention, they hired me as a temporary guard after I told them that I was an adventurer. Apparently, they’re scared by the uprising in Azdavay.”
“Good thing we started on the spears then.” Brown looked at Ayomide. “We’ll have to work extra, young lady, to get arms for us and the slaves as soon as possible.”
Hakim interjected “And food as well, we need to have food for when they’re at our cave.”
“Then it seems we’re at a consensus.” Brown was excited to get back to doing what he did best. “Our first target for liberation shall be the copper mine!”

2023.05.28 15:27 satans_toast When Science Becomes Philosophy
I’m a little chuffed by this YouTube short clip. In it, Neil DeGrasse Tyson talks about Carl Sagan’s famous quote about “we are stardust”. He explains it factually, but there’s this audible gasp by the interviewer that feels like she’s found God or something. It’s as if the fact that our composite elements originating from stellar activity makes us “one with the universe”.
I get weirded out by things like this. It’s like when people see Yosemite Valley and gasp and mutter aloud “makes you wonder why we’re here” or something.
Admittedly, I may be reading too much into that interviewer’s reaction. It just bothers me when people take scientific facts — as awe-inspiring as they may be — and use them to give credence to the metaphysical. https://youtube.com/shorts/wsZMXNU3iQs
