2023.03.30 05:21 Batjan Everyone talks about movie clichés. What are some techniques being used now that could become cliché 20 years from now?

I'm watching a video right now of the "Mickey Mousing" technique used in movies where a characters actions match the music. This technique isn't used as often since it became a movie cliché or trope. Things that have become tropes were new and different when they were first started. I'm wondering what things directors, writers, etc. are using now that have trope potential in the future.

2023.03.30 03:22 Ambitious-Skirt-275 [Poem] Introduction to Poetry—Billy Collins

I ask them to take a poem and hold it up to the light like a color slide
or press an ear against its hive.
I say drop a mouse into a poem and watch him probe his way out,
or walk inside the poem’s room and feel the walls for a light switch.
I want them to waterski across the surface of a poem waving at the author’s name on the shore.
But all they want to do is tie the poem to a chair with rope and torture a confession out of it.
They begin beating it with a hose to find out what it really means.

My bird chews on EVERYTHING. My shirts, my ears and no not just the lobe, my finger, blankets, my mouse, keyboard, my phone, she'll even try to get my lip. Spends all day tearing up the foraging toys I made her after borderline neglecting the ones I bought. Should've named her Chewbecca.
Now I know they tend to nibble but I didn't realize it'd be this much. Or is it just my crackheaded hyper Dino? Lol

2023.03.30 02:11 autotldr Disney World board picked by DeSantis says predecessors stripped them of power

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 54%. (I'm a bot)
Board members picked by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to oversee the governance of Walt Disney World said Wednesday that their Disney-controlled predecessors pulled a fast one on them by passing restrictive covenants that strip the new board of many of its powers.
The current supervisors of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said at a meeting that their predecessors last month signed a development agreement with the company that gave Disney maximum developmental power over the theme park resort's 27,000 acres in central Florida.
In taking on Disney, DeSantis furthered his reputation as a culture warrior willing to battle perceived political enemies and wield the power of state government to accomplish political goals, a strategy that is expected to continue ahead of his potential White House run.
The new supervisors replaced a board that had been controlled by Disney during the previous 55 years that the government operated as the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
In a statement, Disney said all agreements were above board and took place in public.
The agreement covers around 45,000 service workers at the Disney theme park resort, including costumed performers who perform as Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters, bus drivers, culinary workers, lifeguards, theatrical workers and hotel housekeepers.

2023.03.29 23:45 scoopd352 Everything in our house is sort of a painful reminder of what could’ve been

Anyone else feel this? My son is level 3/non verbal with GDD.
I have a baby book hidden in my closet. It has every milestone filled out with pictures I printed and cut out in moments of pure happiness that my baby got their first tooth, rolled over, etc. Then it gets to the “first word,” and from that point on its blank. My son hasn’t gotten past that milestone or onto the others.
Every time I go in his room I see the safety tent and remember it used to be a crib. I remember my spouse putting the crib together together one very cold night in October while we talked about what our child would want to be for Halloween when they were born and older and could decide stuff like that.
All the spoons and forks and baby plates that he never used (he refused all utensils and plates. He will only eat from your hand while he’s standing and running).
The unused Mickey Mouse toddler potty. The little “daddy and me” power tool set he never touched. All the books and toys that I dreamed of and imagined him playing with, he just rips or eats or throws. I’ve never really seen him play with something.
The stairs I imagined him running down excited for Christmas.
It’s just such a shitty feeling most of the time. Sometimes I honestly want to move because the memories of being pregnant or having a newborn and so excited for the future in this home are so painful.
