She’s my flatmate but also my friend (we were friends before we moved in together) so maybe I can talk to her about this. I’m just a little concerned with how often she does laundry, especially with the energy crisis right now. We just recently moved into this place and there was one week where did laundry almost every day and one night she even put 3 separate loads in. Each wash she does is about 3 hours and they’ll she’ll put them on the rack and put the dehumidifier on (which is big-ish). I understand the reason for the dehumidifier and am fine with it but she’ll have it on for 12+ hours. She washed her sheets the other day and used the dryer setting on the machine (high heat not low heat) and they didn’t fully dry so she put them on the rack with the dehumidifier.
I thought maybe it was just because we were settling in she was doing all her laundry in the first week or 2 (she had a lot of clothes from her old place she hadn’t washed) but it looks like doing laundry pretty much every other day is just how she lives. Like yeah okay we all know it's dumb expensive to buy a house nowadays and it literally seems like a fantasy dream 20-30 years down the line rn and I am fkn 26 this is ridiculous but also to consider: A fridge Kitchen appliances & utensils Washing machine Tables Chairs Drawers & shelves A couch Dryer if you want Dishwasher even Tv & bed (which I have already but like that's me) So many things and it all adds up to be a fkn wad of cash... even in rental situations, with fkn bond, and it just feels like paying to be in a likely temporary space so rich people can make money on the side off of someone else's need for a roof over their head I just... I'm pretty fucking sick of being an adult right now, especially one who needs their own space but has to be crammed in with their parents because hey! Retail doesn't even pay well enough for rent bc I'm not a cheap child anymore and hours are only for those who need pocket money.

Hi I'm 16mtf (trans), my family is very opposed to the lgbtq+ community to the point that they said to me if I was gay they would chop off my deck and kill me, also they said that I was equal to a child predators if I was gay but that is besides the point. My mother is very nosey and she found my makeup drawer in my room and lately my parents have been using the wrong pronounspronouns constantly and like they exagerate them. I get the feeling they are trying to almost brainwash me outta being trans but that isnt something they can do. Also I know this is not exactly parents but my brother sexualy assaults me every day. Not only does he do that but he constantly calls me a faggot. I want to get out of this house as fast as I can but I don't know if I am technically being abused, yes my parents are "brain washing" me but at the same time they are forcing me to stay at a dead end job and not letting me further advance or, spend my money. I don't know what I should do if this isn't the right place for this I'm sorry but I think I can categorize this and emotional and mental abuse from my parents and from my brother, sexual assault ,and mental abuse.
P.s. I have told my parents about my brother and what he does and all they do is say "hey stop doing that" but he keeps doing it and they do nothing more about it.

I dumped my therapist this week because for the last month or 2 all my sessions were just us BSing about how happy I am. I never thought this was possible. I thought I was permanently broken. I believed that I’d never be happy or feel anything close to normal. I’m happy now. I started my own family and I’m breaking the cycle of abuse.
As great as this is I don’t think I can stay on this sub. Despite my overall happiness some posts here do cause me some distress, but before I leave I wanted to share how I got here in the hopes it will help someone.
To sum up my childhood as briefly as possible my father was the narcissist. He was a bigot. He was physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive. He never expressed love or affection. I spent most of my life while he was alive believing he hated me. I spent most of my childhood thinking he would try to kill me one day. Around the age of 11 I started sleeping with a knife under my pillow. In case he came to kill me in my sleep I’d have a fighting chance. Growing up was lonely and I always had my head on a swivel when I was home because I constantly had to navigate his mood swings to try and survive.
My mother came off as the hood one by comparison. It wasn’t until I read Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents that I learned she was passively abusive. She was my fathers enabler while making me responsible to fulfill her emotion needs while mine were ignored. She taught us how to act in public to hide the abuse we were suffering at home. I told school staff in elementary school and a cop once of my abuse. Despite my state having mandatory reporting laws in place at the time nobody ever checked on my well-being.
Growing up like this left me with heightened survival skills. I grew to hate that because I very much wanted to unalive myself, but due to still being in constant survival mode I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I didn’t like or trust most people. I always had a small circle of very close friends. They became my family. Despite that for some reason I never told them what I went through. I normalized my abuse to the point that I didn’t believe that parents truly loved their kids. I got in a lot of fights as a kid and adult. Luckily I was smart about my self destructive behavior because I don’t have a record. I was really wild throughout my 20’s and early 30’s. I’m seriously shocked that I don’t have a record. Fact is I didn’t think I’d live to 18 so I had existential crises at around 20 and 35 years old. Like wtf was I supposed to do because I hadn’t planned on existing still? I spent most of my adult life as a man whore. Learned it was how I dealt with being stressed or lonely and because of how I grew up I felt lonely and isolated a lot.
How I got better: I’m almost 40 so it was anything but quick. I spent way too long acting self destructive. I was diagnosed with PTSD. I moved 2500 miles away. I got married in my 30’s. We ended up in couples therapy for a bit. Once we got through that I stayed with that therapist to deal with my childhood because my wife had become pregnant. I also read several books that helped. (I’ll post those at the end) I was determined to fix myself for my kid. Thankfully my father died before my kid was born. Part of me thinks that I wouldn’t have been ready to be a parent as long as he was alive. I went no contact with my entire family and removed toxic people from my life. I still talk to 1 aunt but that’s because she is the only emotionally mature person on either side of my family. She’s supportive and I regret waiting till my 30’s to let her into my life. After working my therapist and those books I feel like the last piece was removing the toxic people from my life.
My advice: Narcissism is just one type of emotionally immature adult. We were forced to ignore our own emotional needs and cater to our parents’ emotional needs, which is the opposite of how it’s supposed to work. We were never taught how to emotionally respond properly because our parents were so broken. We had to learn by trial and error and depending on how abusive your situation was the errors could be costly. We did all this to survive.
STOP caring about your family’s feelings, needs, and wants. Did they care about yours when you needed them to most? Did they have your back, or did they leave you in those abusive homes to suffer? YOU DON’T OWE THEM ANYTHING. They are NOT entitled to your time, life, etc. Go no contact. They’ll try to guilt you but don’t fall for it. It’s all BS. They caused your trauma and having your abuser in your life is not helpful in overcoming your trauma. You’ve all been through so much. It’s not selfish after years of abuse to make your mental health and well-being your top priority. You matter and your feelings matter. Your childhoods were taken from you by selfish monsters and you deserve to recover from that and be ok. Also, know that it is possible to be ok.
LEAVE!!! I moved 2500 miles away and refuse to even go back to visit my friends from back in the day. I don’t need the feelings or memories that live there. I didn’t have much when I left. I had a car and I cashed in my 401k from a part time job I had for 2 years. I was homeless on and off for spurts. It was all worth it. You are strong. You can fight and survive.

I don't watch tv at home, but I have to listen to it all day at work. Lately the amount of ads with dogs is overwhelming. There is a new one that is a car ad and the ad is literally NOTHING but dogs barking. Towards the end it's just a dog yapping for no reason and the ad talking about being dog approved. Who gets a new car just so it can be decimated by a dog?
Then there's all the dog food ads, especially the ones for 'fresh food' and whatnot. Animals are perfectly fine on standard dry and canned food. Remember the Xmas Amazon ad where a dog destroys a house and the owners solution is to get a 2nd dog? That's playing again too. Then we have the ad where kids want a dog, and mom is VERY reasonable and says 'no, that's expensive', yet 'tv dad' hands over a dog.
But we know the truth. Dogs are cursed, and my life is better without having to listen to their BS all day on tv.

it is a trixie large plastic wheel and it is supposed to be silent but it is making a lot of noise. i think the problem was that i washed it a too many times with water cause my hamster pees in it everyday so it needs oil or something. i no longer wash it daily (i cover it with toilet papel and change the paper, it's a lot easier) but i need a solution to the noise specially since the cage is in my room and i can't have proper sleep. do you have any suggestions? what oils can i use? like olive oil or coconut oil or something?

I don’t know what it is about it. The sand is fun to play with for any age, the ocean is fun to swim in, it’s relaxing to sleep near, you can find the coolest little stuff wash up, and it just makes me happy to be near it. I can walk along the beach for hours at a time and not feel bored. I was once swimming for over 3 hours in the ocean and I didn’t notice. It’s just so amazing. You would never expect that I am actually terrified of fish

I have a 9 year old cat that lives at my parent's house and lives a semi-outside life. He can get in and out as much as he wants, since we just open the door when he meows at us, and he has an unlimited supply of dry food plus a daily can of wet food. Normally, at the same time everyday, the cat meows at us so we accompany him to the garage and give him his wet food. We close the door and he spends the night there, where he has his water, food, bed and litter. This lifestyle has been going on without problem for years. He's never had any health issue, while receiving regular check-ups, he's never been overweight or underweight, hadn't had any problem with cars, outsiders or stray cats since we live in a very rural area... I should also mantion he's sterilized which should in theory make him less territorial.
Now, for the last two years, he started to pee in stuff. Mostly my dad's (which is an issue since he's the typical "didn't want the cat" dad). He's peed over sofas, in the floor, in my dad's backpack and in his car. The litter was clean and hadn't had anything changed, so we thought maybe he smelled other cat's in my dad's car and that turned him crazy. My dad tried everything. Parking the car where there's no other cats, covering his things with cardboard... The issue prevails The vet said he's healthy, and we don't know what else to do. I think it's separation anxiety since he only started to do it when I moved out two years ago, but it's hard to say. My dad is going to make him sleep in an outside dog's house (which will have food and water nearby) but I worry it'll be an uncomfortable change. My cat is getting older and I fear he wouldn't come back home one day if he sleeps outside.
Any advice?
