2023.03.25 01:42 No-Account-4307 My partner is a drunk

My partner is a mean alcoholic. We’ve been together for about 5 years and everyday I feel like I’m just watching him fall. I have had many talks with him about his alcoholism but he doesn’t think he has a problem. I try my hardest to help him and motivate him but he just won’t stop. He gets very angry especially when he’s drinking. I started a new job about a month ago that’s in management and it requires me to be there early so I have to wake up every morning at 4am. I am really excited about this job because it’s my dream job and it’s in management. I do not want to lose this job but my sleepless nights and worry are catching up with me. My performance this week wasn’t as great as before because I’m tired. Every night after working long 12 hour shifts I am coming home to my partner intoxicated and playing loud music all hours of the night. He has also been drunk and leaves in his car to drive around to god knows where making me unable to sleep because I’m constantly worrying about him hurting someone else or himself. I should be sleeping and preparing for work the next day but instead I’m not able to go to bed till midnight or later. He has a salary job that doesn’t require him to work much so with all his free time he’s not contributing to the household chores that he creates either. Also, this is my first job after being unemployed for almost a year because I got Covid really bad. I have been so close to losing everything for a long time but I’m finally catching up on my outstanding bills. I hope to catch up within a month and would like to leave this environment. However, I have no family in town or any friends that I can stay with in the meantime because they all have families of their own and i don’t want to burden anyone with my problems. This felt like a safe space to let it out so thanks for reading and please offer me some advice if you have any. I can’t live like this much longer. It’s really fucking hard.

2023.03.25 01:09 HuntingTheWumpus [LoTR] Every character faces a single great test which determines the ultimate fate of Middle Earth

If you've read the Silmarillion, then you'll be aware that it has always been the fate of humanity to be tested and to fail, then to fall into darkness and bring tragedy and horror on the world. Whether it's dishonesty, greed, jealousy, distrust, or betrayal, again and again from Numenor to Arnor we see humanity failing when tested and only a handful surviving to rebuild and try again.
This theme seems to be repeated all through the Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and LoTR, where characters face a great temptation of some kind and are forced to make an existential decision which determines their fate: Isildor is unable to give up the Ring and is killed as a result, Galadriel refuses to take part in the Kinslaying and becomes a beautiful, powerful, and fair queen, Saruman is corrupted by his arrogance and is killed, then denied return to Valinor. And so on.
Throughout LoTR, each character faces a great decision which determines the true nature of their deepest heart, and the fate of all Middle Earth rests on what they do in that moment. Some examples:
Bilbo spares Gollum's life out of pity, despite having every reason to end it, and even Gandalf notes that his intuition tells him the ultimate fate of Middle Earth will ultimately be balanced on that decision.
Sam Gamgee, the humble gardener, faces down the horror of Shelob completely alone out of love for Frodo, then not only picks up the Ring to complete Frodo's mission when he believes Frodo is dead but freely gives up the Ring at a time when it's so close to Sauron that its influence is like "a great circle of fire" always in the mind. Unlike Frodo, Sam is largely unaffected by the Ring afterward because of his willingness to give it up.
Aragorn keeps his word to the Oathbreakers, even as he's tempted by the knowledge that he desperately needs them for the battle ahead; if he'd broken his word, he would have dragged Gondor and all of Man down with him into darkness as so many kings had before him. He is rewarded for his trustworthiness with victory when all seemed lost.
Gandalf and Galadriel are each directly tempted by the Ring, freely offered by Frodo, and each manages to refuse even though they know what power it could give them. And for Galadriel she knows the result will be the fading of the elves forever, but is still able to avoid becoming a "dark queen."
Boromir, of course, fails the test and dies as a result. In fact, his failure also condemns the Steward to a horrible death, and nearly Faramir also. Faramir is saved only by passing his own test by refusing to take the Ring from Frodo.
Gollum is both rewarded and punished at the same time: he betrays Frodo in the end after swearing upon the Ring, and while he is rewarded by getting what he most wants: the Ring, he is condemned to death only seconds afterward.
And Frodo, sadly, fails his test. We see that he is tested harder and worse than everyone else, and while he is able to resist for a long time, even he eventually succumbs to the Ring's corruption. He and Middle Earth are saved only by the kindness of Bilbo, who earned mercy for Frodo by giving it to Gollum. Frodo pays for his failure by the constant pain from his wound and the darkness which poisons his soul from the Ring. He is forced to go into the West to soothe the mortal agony of his suffering.
I believe that despite the grand narratives and sweeping battles, what most characterize LoTR are those small, individual tests which are variably passed and failed, and which ultimately determined the fate of all Middle Earth, both the good and the bad.

2023.03.25 00:55 Bumblebe5 Palisades Center Trip Report: Friday Fun (3/24/23)

My mom and brothers went to Buffalo, NY. So me and my dad went somewhere better. Of course I mean Palisades.
We left at 5 pm. I brought my Knuckles stuffy. I filmed a video (actually a sequel to a Black Friday video I filmed at the Bergen Town Center with a Sonic stuffy) about Knuckles exploring the Palisades Center.
Dad let me go thru a few corridors, though I never got to see where they led to. We went to Burger King and had the Impossible Whopper, since it is Lent, and I can't eat meat on Fridays. It wasn't filling.
Then we went to Target, and I bought a bottle of Sparkling Ice (I need those to survive, since I gave up soda for Lent.) We went to Dave & Buster's after that.
I played Fruit Ninja (no bombs), Injustice Arcade (I got Green Lantern on my team this time round, but he died, and my dad hit the Special Attack button for me), Star Trek, SpongeBob, and the Terminator VR game. I told the guy running the game about how Terminator reminds me of the Superman TAS "New Kids in Town" episode, and he actually got that. I made his day. Then I played Mario and Sonic (played as Knuckles, got up to Day 2 Gymnastics and failed) and Ring Toss.
Then we went by the Ice Rink to find that storage room where all the old stuff like the Brazeiro animals were. We didn't find it, but we did find some old logos on the floor, including Oscar Meyer and DiGiorno (which weren't even in the mall. Why would they put them there?) I have some questions about some of the stores that were on the floor, but I'll save it for the Knuckles video's release, since I got them on tape.
Then we went over to the west parking garage to see if we could find the Rainforest Café props and Food Court stuff. We ended up finding some Home Depot storage and Best Buy auto shit. Then we left.
Funny things: when we were at Target, there were these two guys talking about SpongeBob. "Will you increase my wages? Will you let me play my clarinet? Then I'll give you the secret formula!" Then we heard a guy say, "Jamar, what the fuck?!" in a different aisle. They were probs employees. Whoever you are, thank you for making me laugh.
I can't wait to go back. I don't think I've seen everything.

2023.03.25 00:49 jingqian9145 Contract to Hire W2 & Living Rent Free at Parents or Salaried W2 in MCOL city and advancement?

Hello!
Current situation, 26 year old senior engineer
My current role pays around 70/hr or 145k and will have a conversion rate of 130K + Bonuses with one of the largest firms in my industry. I was hired directly by the firm as a contract to hire on performances and on track to be converted to a salaried worker. I am excelling in the role and outpacing my coworkers but it doesn't really challenge me.
This company has great advancement and tend to give out moderate raises. I travel for this role which means I am able to stay with my parents in a LCOL city and company pays for my travel expenses. Staying at home means I can max out my 401K, Roth IRA, HSA, save for a large amount for a downpayment for a house, and reach my financial goal quicker always maxing out my accounts.
I just been recently been offered a role as a senior engineer for about 150K+Bonuses working for a major hospital in a MCOL city that needs an operations and project engineer, which I can manage from the interview.. Which means more a long term career & able to live in a tech city that has more opportunities.
Its located in a city I enjoy since my current living situation doesn't have much activity and my friends are in this MCOL city. However I won't be able to max 401K, but can still out max out HSA, & ROTH IRA, and save a moderate amount while paying about 1.7k/month for a studio.
What would be your advice? Also any details you would like to know?

2023.03.25 00:49 IbnyourMum Forebears, an Imperial invention - How the Reman Empire split Hammerfell.

To understand the Forebears, you need to understand the role of warriors in Yokuda and their real-life parrel, the Samurai https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai
The Forebears are the self-proclaimed descendants of the Ra Gada the Warriors of Yokuda. The history of the Redguards on Yokuda is basically an exact parallel of Japanese history, specifically the Sengoku era, so we can definitely make the assumption that the role of the Ra (Warriors) is equivalent to the Samurai irl. In contrast to what the Forebears and Imperials will tell you, the Forebears were and are NOT of Low Class, as read above the Samurai, and therefore the Forebear's ancestors were quite wealthy and relatively High in Class when compared to 95% percent of the population.
The role of the Samurai was specifically to enforce the Feudal Lords'(Daimyo) power onto Japanese Peasants, brutalizing the peasants if they didn't comply with the taxes imposed by the Daimyo. Samurai were the hereditary military nobility and officer caste of medieval and early-modern Japan from the late 12th century until their abolition in the 1870s during the Meiji era. They were the well-paid retainers of the daimyo, the great feudal landholders. They had high prestige and special privileges. These warriors often times had the power to kill Anyone of a Lower Class, peasants, etc. They were not an oppressed class, in fact, they were more times than not the oppressors of the masses than not. They enforced the rule of the State, the State their Employers. They had a Monopoly on inflicting Violence.
As seen in the writing Divad the Singer "The Emperor's men were either very lucky or very unlucky depending on how you choose to view it. Being no fool, Hira sent 100 of his best guards, for even an unarmed Singer was a very dangerous foe. The luck was that they were able to capture Divad and place him in chains, for they came at him as he sat dining with his elderly mother. The disaster was that as he surrendered, they rashly struck the pleading old woman. Too hard, it would seem, for she fell dead with that single blow." these warriors had no problem killing the innocent. The point being they were not an oppressed class.
Ignoring, the War of the Singers, which the Warriors or "Forebears" ancestors supported Emperor Hira in, showing that the Forebears were NOT Singers. Frandar and his son David were the first Ra Gada (Warrior Wave) to head to Hammerfell. Frandar was neither part of the ruling Kings nor their Warriors, but he was likely an aspect of Hoonding the Make Way God of the Redguards, considering him an ancestor to the Forebears, the descendants of those he fought and helped kill 300,000 of, is ridiculous and likely a Forebear invention for Legitamacey. The Forebears aren't even the first in Hammerfell, as Frandar and his son were an entirely different group. Even during the 2nd Ra Gada (Warrior Wave) came to Hammerfell, the "Crowns" Led the armies as strategists and leaders. Also, Frandar being an aspect of Hoonding, which would later choose to fight against the Empire as Cyrus (an aspect of Hoonding) in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard, it wouldn't make sense for him to be the ancestors of the Forebears the pro - Imperials.
REMAN EMPIRE CREATION OF THE FOREBEAR POLITICAL FRACTION
The Forebears are naturally situated between and on major routes, and centers of trade. To ensure profitable trade between non-Redguards, learning the language and customs of the Bretons, Nords, Imperials, etc, was necessary. Those who were able to monopolize this trade could become rich or even lords themselves. It was in the material interest of the Forebears already ruling to keep ruling, and so they opened up their ports. Soon enough these "Forebears" didn't have to rely on the Na-Tatumbu to pay their checks, they could hire Warriors for themselves to enforce their rule on the peasantry. The Warriors were being Lords. The Forebears were gaining power a little too fast and the ruling "Crowns" felt the power they had over their warriors, paychecks, privileges, and legitimacy to enforce violence waning, they could no longer give the Elite Forebears more than what they already had. The Crowns in a desperate attempt to ensure their continued rule outlawed Forebears from owning too much property, a gamble to prevent the Forebears from replacing them as the ruling class. However, this wouldn't cause the official split between the Redguard Elite. The Elite of the Forebears would just marry into the existing Nobility and assimilate into the Na-Tatumbu if they wanted to gain power. A full-out war would just drain the very thing which made them gain this power and wealth in the first place, ceasing trade between the outside world and Hammerfell itself. Not only to mention they did not have enough power to win, by themselves at least. (this is not progressive btw, would just be replacing the Na-Tatumbu with Na-Taumbu Lite. Would actually be a stronger Monarchy actually)
After the Conquest or even during possibly the Forebear Political Faction was "formed". "When the province of Hammerfell was annexed into the Second Empire, two political parties were formed to contribute to Cyrodiil's administration over the land. The Crowns were created from what was left of the Na-Totambu, who retained their high-ranking status in the Empire, using Hegathe as their capital. From there, they were represented by the Phyllocid Dynasty, who maintained their relationship with the Empire throughout its lifetime. The Forebears was the other political party founded in Hammerfell, from the warrior-lords that descended from the Ra Gada and governed tribal districts in the south. For the longest time, these groups were sworn enemies, a rivalry that had existed far longer than the Empire itself." - https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Forebears.
Notice how these factions are only "formed" after the conquest of the Reman Dynasty, and wonder why these two "sworn enemies" needed an invasion to split. Consider how the Redguards were actually united by an outside invasion by the Thalmor, but for some reason, the Redguards conveniently split into two political factions right after the Imperial invasion, Pro-Imperial, and Native Resistance.
Imperials state that the Forebear Faction was a "natural and inevitable" outcome of "sworn enemies " whose hatred for each other was "older than the Empire" itself. That the Empire had no part in its creation and simply followed the already existing lines when creating the administration of Hammerfell. While yes, there were multiple fairly large Samurai rebellions in Japanese history, these rebellions were to increase their own power in feudal Japan, higher pay/privileges, lordship, etc. The Daimyo and the Samurai were not "sworn enemies" by any means. A Samurai got his power through the state and the state tough the Samurai, it wouldn't be in either of their interest to disrupt the status quo. Them being "sworn enemies" only makes sense if you consider the Singers or Ansai (Sword Saints) to be the ancestors of the Forebears, which we know wasn't the case.
The Ansei, while warriors, were NOT comparable to samurai. They were closer to a specific Order or school. Closer to that of Japanese Warrior Monks than swords for hire. They did not work for the Yokudan Lords, they were entirely separate, which is why Emperor Hira wanted to purge the Singers. instead of utilizing them to exert control over Yokuda. They were uncontrollable, not paid swords for hire.
The split between the Crowns and Forebears is correlated with the arrival to Tamerial. I would argue that the Reman Dynasty split Hammerfell in two for good, in the same way, a Colonial power like the British Empire creates groups and funds others in Subject Nations, to breed conflict. The Reman Empire played a significant role in the creation of the Forebear Political Faction as a permanent Imperial puppet state in Hammerfell. To ensure Hammerfell like every other province other than Cyrodil is a Subject Province. In fact, my comparison of Japan and Yokuda wasn't just because of the obvious parallels, but another, more obscure reason, the Meiji Restoration and the role of the Imperial power of the time the British Empire.
The Imperial view of the Forebears is quite clear, they are the "cosmopolitan", "flexible", "progressive", "and modern", Redguards, rightfully accepting the rule of the one true Empire. Unlike those damn Crowns, who are "traditionalist", "conservative", "supertesuous", "primitive", "alien", and "oppressive" resisting the rightful rule of the Imperialist Empire. This language is disturbingly similar to how The West, specifically Great Britain described Japan after and Before the Meiji Restoration of Japan.
Let's get to the point, after the Sengoku Era (Warring States) of Japan and a failed invasion of Korea, Japan became extremely isolationist, and the arrival of European weaponry revamped Japanese warfare which was one of the reasons the new Shogunate came into power. Knowing that European influence in Japan resulted in the Shogunate taking power it was also the way the Shogun could lose their power over Japan. This isolation period lasted 200 years, in which they only allowed trade from Europe to come from the Dutch, until the U.S. came knocking and forced Japan to open up trade in 1853. The Shogunate had the correct assumption, as in the 1860's the "Mejji Restoration" coup would occur where power was restored to Imperial power, wonder how that happened. The British, THE Imperial Power at the time. Western capitalists, especially the British saw how exploitable Japan was and let's say was a HUGE player in propping up the Emperor. The language which is used in describing Mejji Japan is identical to how the Empire describes the Forebears, "honorable", "renewal", "rebirth", "modern", and "westernization", basically legitimizing their rule as it is in the interest of Britain.
This actually correlates well with the Redguards, the "Sengoku Period" of Yokuda was basically a carbon copy of Japan except for the Yokuda sinking into the sea part. After Yokuda sinks and the Redguards make a home in Hammerfell they are very isolationist at first, not trading with the other races for quite some time. However, the "Forebears" start to trade with the rest of Tamriel, including Cyrodill. Upon the Rise of the Reman Empire and their Imperialist ambitions, the Forebear Faction is "formed". Since the Forebears weren't powerful enough to conquer Hammerfell themselves, they had to rely on the support of someone who could, in exchange for vassalage. They would be given greater power than the Crowns in this Empire.
The Forebears don't care about morals they care about power. The Empire Doesn't care about how "progressive" the Forebears are, what's "progressive" about supporting a hegemonic power invading your home province just so the Empire can exploit you and your people? The Forebears are choosing power over their people's freedom from an Imperialist power. That is not progressive, in fact, it's quite the opposite. The Empire used pre-existing strife between the Redgaurds to achieve their Imperialist ambitions. The Empire allows subject nations to enslave indiscriminately as long as they can continue their rule. They are a State, more powerful and deadly than the Crowns. I believe the Forebears were deliberately created and or supported by the Empire to create conflict and social strife. All the better when a political faction like the Forebears is largely dependent on the Empire for strength and political influence. As seen here -
Circa 2E 862, when the Crowns monarchy left their ancestral throne of Old Hegathe and took over the Forebears kingdom of Sentinel, it caused a schism between both factions. Baron Volag was chosen by the Forebears to strike an accord with the Crowns King, Thassad II, for a short-term truce.[9]:25 But, when Thassad II passed away from natural causes in 2E 862, Volag and his Forebears launched a wide-scale rebellion against the Crowns that has since been remembered as the Purge of the North. After the first massacre, the Crowns of Sentinel, led by Prince A'tor, were forced to flee the kingdom to the west, to the island-kingdom of Stros M'Kai.[10]
On the island, the Crowns prepared for their counterattack and managed to provide a strong retaliation against the Forebears.[10] But, when the Forebears pleaded for assistance from the Third Empire, the tide of the war quickly shifted back against the Crowns until they were cornered in Stros M'Kai.[7] Some people believed that Volag was used by the Empire, for his ambitions for the throne.[11] As the conflict proved out of favor for the Crowns, Baron Volag and his Forebears disappeared from the public eye, but it is unclear whether this happened after he claimed Sentinel[12] or if it happened after the Battle of Hunding Bay in 2E 864.[10] In any case, Sentinel was without a figurehead and, much like other human realms, a Colovian Officer,[7] in the form of Senecus Goddkey assumed the title of Provisional Governor for the Kingdom of Sentinel and the Forebears principalities. - https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Forebears.
The Forebears are an Imperial invention to ensure domination over Hammerfell.

2023.03.25 00:45 Acrobatic_Soft_3060 Which is a better Big4 exit - a) Associate Director IA - Protiviti b) Internal Audit Manager -Tech Company c) IA Manager - Large Fund?

So I am in APAC, Manager in Risk Advisory with about two years of Digital and Tech Risk experience. Came in as a lateral hire from an in-house SOX role at the height of the Great Resignation. I had done Internal Audits across a broad range of topics (6 years total) and working in tech risk sounded interesting. CA and CISA certified.
However, I have really found it hard to find my footing within the team I got hired into. The team structure seems quite volatile and unstructured with lots of high-ego directors and a very high turnover. Other Managers are highly unfriendly. Somehow stuck out for 2 years and did a number of projects across cyber, cloud, ops risk and also SOX. Reviews have been generally good except for one Director who is a known bully. However, as of Jan my util has dropped and I am only 50% utilised. The other two Senior Managers in my group are also on the same boat. Seems like our high revenue consulting work has dried up and we are mostly doing smaller compliance audits.
So looking around for roles before I get the boot. I have advanced far in an Associate Director role at Protiviti. The Managing Directors seemed really interested and engaged through the interviews. And the salary jump and bonus sounds good (for Australia).
I am also in the prelim stages of a tech company (Atlassian) Internal Audit Manager role. They have 5 stages and might take longer to get a final outcome. Their culture and benefits are great, but not sure how many more layoffs will happen in the near term. Third one are a couple of banks looking for IT Risk Managers.
Any suggestions which way should I lean? Want to jump ship prior to our mid-year outcomes and potential layoffs in April.

2023.03.25 00:33 No_Juggernaut3934 Help with personal injury case

Hi all, I was severely injured in a car accident in April 2022. I signed up with one of those highly-advertised firms to handle settlement and medical bills. Little did I know it would turn into a bigger hellscape than the car accident itself.
During negotiations with the firm, my attorney stated multiple times that this case was “definitely worth more than this settlement amount” but strongly urged me to settle and accept the offer against my better judgement. I now believe this stems from an overall lack of diligence, urgency, and care paid to my case and desire to close the case rather than put in additional research or effort to reach a satisfying result. It has been clear now that this was a case intended to quickly settle and be done with. I had a 2 inch diameter concussion and subsequent dent on my head that I can still feel to this day. I sustained extensive bruising and injuries to my neck, arms, shoulder, both legs and knees. I was hardly able to walk for many months due to shooting pain in my knees. I hired this firm to protect me during this recovery process. I consulted with a few other firms after the fact and they said it was nuts that this attorney didn't file a lawsuit for an offer of $35,000 on $19,000 in medical bills.
On top of that, I have spent at least a dozen hours at the request of this firm, during my workday, tracing down providers and insurance representatives, something I specifically hired this firm to do. The paralegal stated in our last interaction over the phone that I “did not have health insurance” last year which I have been paying for and provided upon signing with this firm and she had on record. My attorney later said she ‘misspoke.’ When I was on hold with an health insurance representative as she phoned my physical therapy office, they told the agent that they had been ‘billing a different insurance company.’ Did anyone from this firm cross check information for accuracy? As for radiology, they also sent billing to an incorrect insurance company. The account is now on hold for the next 30-45 days to re-process and has avoided falling into collections due to my follow up. My health insurance had no record whatsoever of this claim or billing from these providers. Did this firm even reach out to them? Meanwhile a majority of bills from this case have been in collections, causing me immense emotional distress as I received notice after notice in the mail while being left in the dark and given indefinite timelines. I found out this morning another provider had been in collections when the firm told me the account had been paid.
I had to personally bring all this to the attention of providers and insurance and present relevant information to facilitate these claims. I finished treatment well back in May 2022. I never received detailed and itemized ledgers of claims, dates of service, or regular updates. The managing partner recently said they would knock off 25% from attorney's fees; I am still beyond furious. They have been god awful to me during the entire process and are now saying I should file a bar complaint and they will put into a trust for an even LONGER amount of time before anything resolves.
TLDR: My attorney fucked me over, what do I do - I live in Washington State in King County.

2023.03.25 00:29 Funny-Lavishness4780 Nonprofit Nonsense and Unprofessional Interview Practices

Last month, I began my journey interviewing for a new position after being continuously harassed in my current teaching position by a male coworker.
The new position was something I have loads of experience with in the fund development realm. Requirements of this position were: a bachelor’s degree in communications, at least two years prior “successful” experience, and some personality traits centered around altruism and collaboration. You guessed it! It’s for a nonprofit.
There was no salary information listed in the description.
I was asked to take a behavioral index and create three different grants from scratch (which totaled around 13 pages).
There were 3 interviews total. After my first, it took around a week and a half to schedule my second interview, then two weeks after that to schedule my third interview. I often had to remind them I existed throughout the process or ask them to follow up because it was taking so long.
During the interviews, they said they have never seen more excellent writing samples and that I am an exceptional writer and communicator.
Two and a half weeks after THAT, they offered me the position at a “competitive rate” that is $6.5k less than what I currently make and nowhere near what I was asking for. And yes, they know what I currently make. They said it was because the position is actually hourly.
Friends this is no small organization. It is one of the nation’s largest. Why would a development manager be hourly and not salaried?
I asked if this meant that it’s possible I wouldn’t get paid the same week by week, and they said nonchalantly “yes”. Then she said, “but this position is exempt from overtime pay.” I’m sorry what? Why would anyone with 10 years of experience like I have even consider something like this?
They talked about the other person who used to have this position and said that she just “didn’t know what she was doing, didn’t have enough experience.” Insane, because you’re not willing to pay people for their experience.
I let them know that I was shocked and disappointed, that their pay was not in line with other companies, that they should not require such an extensive interview process for such little pay, and that they should post their pay in the job description. I’m still pissed.

2023.03.25 00:23 MissStoryWriter Looking for a Protector

Hi, I'm here looking for a partner to do one of these roles! These are roles with my partner playing a male, protecter type role. If you're more interested in playing a role where we are more equals, unfortunately, these are not for you. Perhaps another time, when I'm in the mood for a different type, but for now, these are kind of what I'm interested in. Now, this is lengthy, so please bear with me!
A little about me first, then what I'm looking for, and finally, the roles.
For now, you can call me Shortie and I'm 24. I've been roleplaying for around 10 years off and on, and I consider myself to be semi-literate to literate. Of course, I make mistakes with grammar, spelling, and whatnot like any other person, but I always do my best. Lately, I've found myself writing in third person, past tense, but I'm flexible. I like to write at least one paragraph per response, but it can change from response to response. I'll always try to at least write more than one sentence. I'll always try to respond at least once a day or let you know in advance.
I'm looking for a partner who will play a male character. All partners must be at least 24 years old and preferably no older than 28. I'd like my partner to be at least semi-literate and write at least a paragraph per response, though it can fluctuate over time. I also understand mistakes happen, so I'll try not to be too picky. I, at least, ask that you write similar to how I'm writing here. Proper capitalization and punctuation are a minimum for me. I'd prefer third person, but not required. Lastly, I ask that you respond at least once a day or let me know what's going on. Life comes first for both of us, so I'm just asking for mutual understanding there.
Okay! Now, onto my roles! Feel free to shoot me a direct chat or private message if you find one you want to talk about more. I'll be using my nickname as a placeholder until we come up with characters.
1) The Pyre
Shortie had a hard time making ends meet after college. Her parents passed just after high school, and the insurance policies went to tuition payments. She managed to graduate with her degree, but she's had a hard time finding a well-paying job she could use her English degree for. So, she started waitressing for a club near where she lived so she could walk to and from home. It was named The Pyre. She didn't know, however, that the club was owned by a well-known member of the mafia, you.
2) The Fallen
Every person has a guardian angel. An angel assigned at birth to make sure the soul lives their life until it was to meet its end. Most angels did well, ensuring that the soul did not die before its time. They couldn't interfere with anything else, no matter how traumatic to the soul. You are a guardian angel. You're tasked with watching over Shortie. Her time was coming to an end, when you decided enough was enough. You interfered, and then you fell.
3) The Deadline
Shortie was a young woman in your general education class in college. She was always silent in class, barely made it on time, and left as soon as possible. One day, she didn't show, and you seemed to be the only one to notice. You found out she had committed suicide, and you decided, out of guilt, the goodness of your heart, or perhaps something else, to go to her memorial. And there... you'll meet Death himself.
4) The Falls
Shortie recently moved away from the city and to a small town called Moonlight Falls, named for the beautiful waterfalls near the town that are most striking on the full moon. She finally got away from the big city and back to nature. She was a writer, primarily a copywriter, but she liked to write fiction as well. One night, she decided to go to the waterfalls, and there... she met you.
5) The Prince
Shortie lived in Lythos, a kingdom known for its libraries, its unquenchable desire for knowledge. While knowledge was important, it wasn't enough to protect the kingdom. Shortie was the youngest princess to the king and queen, and she was betrothed to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, Hykar, known for their fierce armies, navies, soldiers, and the warrior prince, the heir. She and the prince hadn't met until now. You have come home from a battle, and she is waiting with his family.
That's them! Let me know. And thanks for reading my long post, I know it's a lot!

2023.03.25 00:21 Wizard_IT [NY] Turning down promotion due to pay, is it possible to negotiate?

I have a kind of odd situation I am in. I work doing IT remotely and my current manager would like me to move into management. I went from being kind of low on the totem pole when I was first hired to being quiet high on it after a couple of promotions. The problem is that my pay has not kept up at all after the promotions and my current employer has brought up to me how much more I make than everyone due to the HCOL area I am in. Even though my pay in my area is super low. I love my job and my boss is awesome, but personally I dont want to move into management for this company without some serious $$$. Not to sound like an ass, but for the extra stress it would not be worth it.
I know how to do the job and am ready (hence why I am being asked). My performance reviews over the years have also all been 10/10. If they have to hire for this role on the open market, it would be anywhere from at least $120k minimum to around $180k in HCOL areas. Is it possible to inform my manager that I am not interested until I know the salary range and can negotiate? They legally have to tell me the salary range in the state I reside if I go through the process, but I have a feeling they would not want to give me much of a boost in pay since they know what I currently make.
My title is also currently similar, so I am not looking to "have the role on my resume" since it would be meaningless. Anyways, just wanted to see an HR perspective on this since they know how things work on the back end. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

2023.03.25 00:20 No_Juggernaut3934 Help with personal injury case
