Protesters stage a sit-in at the Capitol building in Denver.
Hundreds of White women gathered at the Colorado Capitol Monday morning, with more expected to show up throughout the day, to use their “privilege” in a silent sit-in to demand Gov. Jared Polis ban guns and create a gun buyback program.
The sit-in also comes amid a national debate over gun control and nearly two months after Polis signed into law four gun control bills, including one to expand the state’s red flag law.
Protesters gather in Denver to call for strict gun laws.
Here4TheKids, a movement created after a mass shooting in Nashville in March left six people dead, including three children, calls for primarily White women to peacefully sit-in until Polis, a Democrat, signs an executive order banning guns. It was founded by two women of color, Saira Rao, who is South Asian American, and Tina Strawn, who is Black. Both are mothers.
Strawn told CNN the movement calls for White women to be at the forefront of the sit-in because, “we know what happens when we show up with demands.”
“We know what happens when we show up in large numbers to fight for our rights. We’ve been doing it for generations. We’re always the ones whose bodies are in the most danger and at the most risk,” Strawn, an author and owner of the “Speaking of Racism” podcast said.
“So, it appealed to me very much that this was actually a time where we are asking Black folks and other marginalized and vulnerable communities to sit this one out and allow the White women and their privileged bodies, their privilege, and their power to show up. It’s time for them to show up,” Strawn added.
The movement has garnered support from the entertainment industry, including from White actresses Amy Schumer, Michaela Watkins and Lake Bell.
Watkins, who showed up at the Colorado Capitol early Monday morning and plans to stay until late in the evening, told CNN her initial response to the call to action for mainly White women to participate was, “What? Just White women? That sounds just exclusive,” but she understood what the founders meant.
“White women, statistically, have been the least likely to be arrested, assaulted by police officers and so we just said, ‘OK.’ If marginalized communities have been just traumatized over and over and over again I guess we just come together,” Watkins told CNN as cars drove by and honked in support of the protest. “We are the biggest voting block in this country. We do have power, we just forget that and we have been conditioned to forget that.”
She also said, “For me, it was very confronting, it was like, ‘I am an activist, but am I really willing to put myself on the line?’” when asked what was her response to other White women who feel uncomfortable with the movement.
“If someone says, ‘I don’t understand why I have to be there,’ they don’t have to be here. But if you feel you are over it, over this incredible horror that we are facing, literally every single day, then you should come here.”

‘This is apolitical, it affects everyone’

There have been at least 276 mass shootings in the US this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as one in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter. Colorado has suffered several mass shootings since the deadly Columbine High School shooting in 1999, including a shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs in November.
In 2021, firearms accounted for nearly 19% of deaths for those aged 1-18, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wonder database, and nearly 3,600 children died in gun-related incidents that year. The gun violence, particularly school shootings, has Wolf Terry, a volunteer with the movement who is also White, nervous for her five-year-old, who is autistic.
“If my child is even in a lockdown drill he will not be able to stomach it, to handle it, to participate in it without having a meltdown,” Terry, told CNN. “If there was an active shooter at his school he would be the first to be shot alongside his classmates because he would be loud and he’d be scared and he wouldn’t be able to control his response to the situation. And so every day, that’s what sticks with me … this is apolitical, it affects everyone.”
The executive order Here4TheKids has proposed for Polis to sign calls for the governor to “ban the use, loading, possession or carrying of all firearms in Colorado, including but not limited to firearms for personal protection, hunting, law enforcement or any otherwise lawful purpose” and create a statewide gun buyback program.
A spokesperson for Polis said the governor’s staff has met with the organizers of the group and “have expressed concerns that the requests being made are either unconstitutional or require legislative action.”
“The Governor takes the weighty responsibility of executive action and the trust Coloradans placed in him to govern responsibly seriously, and will not issue an unconstitutional order that will be struck down in court simply to make a public relations statement – he will continue to focus on real solutions to help make Colorado one of the ten safest states,” the spokesperson said in a statement to CNN. “These individuals’ calls to improve safety and prevent gun violence through their specific requests for an executive order banning all guns would simply be unconstitutional.”
Both Rao and Strawn said lawmakers have failed to curb gun violence and when asked if the new gun control laws in Colorado were a start, Rao said “no” because despite current state laws aimed to prevent them, gun deaths still persist.
“State legislation does not work. Why? Because guns can cross state lines, you can print guns on 3D printers,” Rao said. “State legislation is not working. It’s just not working, it doesn’t matter what it is.”

So I am currently working on a personal project, it involves rookie drafting in an NFL sports sim game.
I am currently exporting a large amount of rookie draft classes, their pre draft metrics (you are given combine numbers and a scouts opinion on attributes) and then also post draft information once their ‘true’ rating is revealed.
My aim with this project is to have a dataset of these draftees to compare against incoming rookie players and generate a similarity score of some sort as a means of helping me predict player outcomes or at least narrow down a range of probable player outcomes based on the chosen criteria.
This info is all dumped from the game into CSVs so it’s giving me a good excuse to practice in Pandas and with Numpy etc. I have minimal to no experience with databases but I’m assuming that an SQLite database would be more suitable to store the player data (it’ll be about 60k players split by positions, so I thought multiple tables in a db) than another data frame.
I’d been trying to research similarity scoring as I am not familiar with it in practice at all and only recently in concept, would something like Euclidean Distance sound suitable for this? Would it just be a case of quantifying a euclidian norm for each player by position based on my defined criteria and then running the incoming rookie class against it as a comparison to generate the ‘similar players list’ for each incoming rookie?
Sorry if this isn’t a great explanation, I’d appreciate any insight or advice people might have!

Important Games:

Sept 6th: #7 Georgia avenged last years loss to #11 Clemson, 13-7.
Sept 25: #8 Penn St defeats #2 Nebraska 27-24.
Oct 9th: #3 Penn St lost at #4 Alabama, 21-42
Nov 20th: SMU tied Arkansas in its final game of the season, 17-17.
November 26th: #2 Penn St defeated #5 Pitt (9-1), 19-10

As the last unbeaten in college football, SEC champ #1 Georgia, controlled their path to win a 2nd consensus national title in 3 years. Just win the Sugar bowl and there is no argument who is #1. Penn State was #2 in both polls and accepted a bid to the Sugar creating a de facto national title game vs the Dawgs. #3 Nebraska and #4 SMU were essentially boxed out of the title race. Penn St beat Nebraska in the regular season (thanks in part due a controversial call), meaning that the Polls would almost certainly go with Penn St #1 if both teams won their bowl games. As for SMU, despite having a 0 in the loss column, it was unlikely they would leapfrog the Nittany Lions in the polls as well. I don't have this sourced, but looking at each team's resumes, it appears the pollsters valued Penn State's strength of schedule, which included ranked wins over Pitt, Nebraska and West Virginia, whereas SMU only beat 1 ranked team all season and tied the other. Additionally, if both teams won their bowl, Penn States' win over #1 Georgia would only further separate each team's resumes.

The Bowls

The Cotton Bowl #4 SMU vs #6 Pittsburgh (Jan 1st 1:30PM EST)
As mentioned above, SMU's title hopes were slim, but as we all know, voters can be fickle. At a minimum, they would likely need to route, Pitt, have the Huskers lose to LSU and have Penn St beat Georgia in a sloppy game. Coincidentally, SMU found themselves in a sloppy game of their own. Neither team scored in the first half. Pitt went up 3-0 early in the 3rd, but SMU countered with an early 4th quarter TD. Pitt drove deep into SMU territory late, but QB Dan Marino threw a game sealing interception in the end zone.
Orange Bowl #3 Nebraska vs #13 LSU (Jan 1st, 8PM EST)
The Huskers found themselves in a similar situation to SMU. There hopes were arguably slimmer given PSU beat them head to head. But maybe, just maybe a route of LSU would make the voters forget that. Once again, like SMU, they didn't get the style points they needed. The Huskers trailed for much of the game, and were down 17-7 in the 3rd, but rallied with 2 TDs to take a 21-17 lead. They hold on for a 21-20 victory.
Sugar Bowl
The stage was set for a highly anticipated showdown of #1 vs #2. Georgia was led by Heisman trophy winner, Herschel Walker, and Penn St by future NFL qb, Todd Blackledge. Penn St led 7-3 after the 1st then raced to a 20-3 lead in the 2nd before Georgia stopped the bleeding with a TD to make it 20-10 PSU at the half. Georgia started with the ball in the 3rd and double dipped with another TD to cut it to 17-20. Penn St went up 10 with a 47 yard passing TD in the 4th. Georgia would again cut it to one score with a late 4th quarter TD, however, Penn St ran out the clock on the ensuing possession to hold on for a 27-23 win. After 15 years with the program, Joe Pa had was on the precipice of his first national title.

The final polls did have a mild surprise in hand, but the drama was limited to SMU jumping Nebraska for #2. Penn St was a clear cut #1 in both polls. Although Husker fans are still salty about that regular season game this day, you can't deny how impressive this Nittany Lions team was. They finished with wins over the #3, #4, and #9 teams in the final Polls en route to coach Joe Paterno delivering the program it's first national title.
Final note: Bear Bryant would retire at the end of the 82 season. His final game was a 21-15 Liberty Bowl win over Illinois on December 29th. He would pass away less than a month later due to a heart attack at the age of 69. In his 25 years, he won or shared 6 national titles as the Tide's head coach and 323 overall career wins as a coach.

27% Reservation to candidates belonging to OBC category (excluding under creamy layer) will be provided in different courses. The authorities to issue the OBC certificate are the same as in case of SC/ST provided in section 3.4. (i) above. The caste in the OBC certificate will be those only which are in the list of Central Govt. Further the OBC certificate should clearly mention that the candidate is not under creamy layer. However, if an OBC candidate seeks admission under some other category (for example: PWD/Employee Ward etc.) the candidate should satisfy the minimum eligibility requirement for that category
