2023.05.28 14:17 WeakSand-chairpostin (30f) I am an objectum sexual who is in a para-social relationship with the electric chair from Sing Sing Prison in New York and also the electric chair currently at Riverbend Maximum Security Institute in Tennessee.
It started when I was around nine years old. Growing up in Florida I'd heard about the electric chair many times. But for some reason, it just seemed mythological to me. As if it were something that parents made up in order to help prevent their kids from becoming criminals. It just did not seem real too me. A chair that kills you when you sit in it? No, that's made up, I thought.
At around that age, my parents didn't give a crap about me having a bedtime. I had a TV in my room next to my bed and I'd often stay up until some ungodly hour of the morning and watch TV. I'd end up watching things which in retrospect were really not age appropriate. One of the movies I ended up watching was the Bundy movie.
I was terrified when I was watching that movie. It made me resent serial killers. I couldn't believe how cruel this man could be to kill women. As a girl, this scared me even more, knowing that there are really monsters such as him and something like that could happen to me.
My disgust and fear quickly turned into amusement when I got towards the end of the movie and I saw the electric chair scene. The chair was real! It isn't a myth! I was so happy and morbidly curious at this point. I knew it was a movie, but I also knew it was based on real events so I was curious how this chair would kill him after he sits in it.
It was so funny seeing this murderer who thinks he's so tough, lose his shit to the sight of this old wooden chair. He's going to die. How? Not by being stabbed by another inmate. Not by dying of old age or disease...no! He's going to die from sitting on a chair. That's just hilarious to me. He became the electric chair's prey. It's also amusing just because of how unusual it is. When you think of a chair you think it's something to sit and relax in. But not THIS chair! You cannot sit in it! Because if you do, it'll electrocute you and you'll die!
It's oddly romantic in a way, to me. When a prisoner is strapped into the electric chair it's almost as if the chair is hugging them or something. But in a twisted way. The chair doesn't want to let the prisoner go, it wants to inject its juice (electricity) right through their body, whether they like it or not.
As I got older I enjoyed researching electric chairs in my free time. I see people tend to personify electric chairs a lot, sometimes even giving them pronouns such as ''he'' or ''she''. That just makes them seem more...alive? In a way, compared to ordinary chairs (which I have no interest in, I'm specifically into real electric chairs, located at real prisons!)
I love the Sing Sing electric chair. I think he's the most adorable one, even though he's killed the most people out of any other electric chair (614 since 1891!). The Riverbend one, Old Smokey, has only killed 6 since 2007. I love how sexy the Riverbend one looks. I love that huge leather backrest, those car seatbelt straps, rather than the incremental leather ones the Sing Sing chair uses. I love the junction box and the fact that the Riverbend chair's ankle electrodes (yes, there are two, rather than just one!) are actually built into the structure of the chair itself.
Been into electric chairs for a really long time, haven't told anyone I know in real life about it though, so this site is my outlet!

2023.05.28 14:13 dotarollercoaster 8k MMR Nature's Prophet SUPPORT Guide - 62,5% Winrate - Master Prophet In 11 Minutes (Or Less)
So you want to learn how to play Nature's Prophet hard support?
With 1,6% pickrate in the Immortal bracket and 40.9% winrate. You must be crazy to think this is even a thing…
or are you?? When patch 7.33 came in, I thought Prophet would be insane. I mean, really, now? 40% bigger map and global presence ain’t going to be strong? But as it turned out..it was not.
If you are a support player, you probably learned the hard way that in 7.33, experience was a luxury. Now, Valve invented something insane in the last patch.
They added more objectives other than Roshan, like Wisdom runes and Tormentors. But for such a huge map, the lack of sentries and observers turned all of us into a non stop 5manning.
If you’ve seen this
video on how to play support in 7.33 you probably know what I am talking about.
So, in reality, more objectives=less objectives.
Everyone is grouping up and 5manning. And then 7.33c came….And I saw this…
Wisdom runes in 7.33c give double the experience to your team So I started playing Prophet support with only 1 game plan. Steal the enemy wisdom rune not only at 7 minutes in but every single one of them, and play around with this 5-man idea by buying all the needed auras depending on the game.
Sound pretty stupid. In fact, it is pretty stupid.
Currently, I am 10-6 with a 62,50% winrate with prophet hard support/support.
The games were played in the 8k bracket in the Europe region. Honestly speaking, it could be higher, but I am not the greatest NP player... at least for now. In this video, we will go through.
- Starting items
- Laning Stage
- Skill build
- Gameplan
- Mid-game Itemization
- Friends & Foes
Oh wait! This only works only for you because you are "higher" rank player and players play better up overall. Well…NO!
In fact, I could be better at the hero overall. The last time I played prophet was when I was ancient, back in 2019, and I was trying to snipe couriers.
Yes, I was THAT guy.
As a result, if I can pull it off versus the "higher-rank" players, you can also do that.
Before we start the video, I need to say that you need two requirements to play the hero: 1) Low level of micro 2) No skill If you fulfill the above requirements, get prepared to learn how to play prophet support.
1) Starting items
Prophet is a right-click-dependent hero in the lane. I suggest picking up a
blight stone, a sentry, a grenade, x3 tangos and filling up the rest with stats or faerie fire. Even if you play versus some kind of spammy hero like a Skywrath mage, I suggest you start with blight stone and bring the stick right after. Exceptions for a stick are heroes like Bristleback (super spammy lane)
2) Laning Stage
Laning stage as Nature’s prophet is super simple. Here’s what you need to do, and this is the most important thing. You might need a bit of micro for that, but the more you play, the better you’ll become
Step 1: Summon treants Step 2: Hit enemy heroes while treants are in front of you. Be really careful not to overfeed treants or position your hero wrongly. We are not as tanky as we would love early on Step 3: Repeat. The idea is to push them back and slowly win the regen war by out-trading them. Nature’s prophet is a great hero in the laning stage to push enemies back effortlessly and pick up the lotus that will give our lane extra consumables to apply the pressure. I really want to emphasize that for us to pull a Nature’s prophet, we need to deliver a
solid laning stage. While in the laning stage,
you will get teleportation level 2.
Now teleportation, on level 1, has 36 damage on the first hit, 30 on the second, and 24 on the third. While the numbers are not great, having that much damage for 2-3, right-click means you can connect anywhere on the map, even early on secure the kill(midlane pre runes, is usually a good place to search early on)Get back to your lane by using scroll
3) Skill build
- Level 1, you will always get Treants not only to harass enemies but also to scout wards and enemy map movements.
- Level 2, we go Teleportation, it is too good of a spell. Early damage and being able to connect wherever we want are key early on.
- Level 3, you can go both treants or sprout. I usually go treants, but if I see an enemy mid-laner with no quelling blade or he is an overall low HP, I will definitely consider taking Sprout to make a potential move.
- Level 4, Sprout/treants
- Level 5 Treants
- Level 6 Ultimate
- And on Levels, and 7,8,9, we go for teleportation. An extra treant will not make the difference, but less CD on our ability to connect with our team is essential.
Talents:
- Level 10 (or 11): +30 Wrath of Nature’s Base damage
- Level 15: +5 Treants Summoned
- Level 20: Sprout leashes (if you play versus Spirits or mobile heroes). If you play vs a Dusa or a really static hero, a 100% miss chance is really reasonable
- Level 25: 2,5x Treant HP/DMG
4) Mid-game plan
Mid-game as Prophet starts really early on, even from 5 minutes. So the first idea is to see the situation in the mid-lane or the offlane. If it is going well, you should connect with him, your treants, and the catapult and try to take down the tower. The blight stone will also contribute a lot to this attempt.
Regardless if you succeed or not, it is super important to steal the enemy wisdom rune at 7 minutes in. Usually, players are not there at exactly 07:00.
The plan is to TP at 06:57, pick up the wisdom rune, then teleport to your offlane T2 to pick up the other rune. This will lead to a huge XP difference between the 2 teams and might even give you level 6. If not, connect with your team and try to siege a tower while trying to get your level 6.If nothing happens, retreat to the jungle, try to pick up some jungle items for your team, and always be ready to connect in case of an emergency.
In the mid-game, you always play around 5manning. You can TP to the enemy jungle and place some vision so you will see where enemies are and try to snipe them. The way I think of Nature's prophet is more or less like my beloved Chen. A find Prophet slighlty better due to his global pressence, his global abilities (a fast level 6, can provide many kills early on) and the ability to pressure more early on as well as slighlty more gold than a Chen
5)Itemization
- I have had great success getting Solar Crest straight up into mek. Solar Crest is a great item, but I would only buy it to boost a hero. For example, if I have heroes like TB, Alchemist, Bloodseeker, etc., heroes that either gather all the gold and if they get to die, we lose or simply manfight a lot (Bloodseeker), and they need a boost.
- So, if I play versus a lot of AoE damage, magical like Dark Seer, void spirit, storm, Puck, or Qop, I will get Mek into Pipe.
- I really need to add that the hero, though, is SUPER versatile, and you should approach the hero in reality like…Chen. Exactly
- So, if you play versus an annoying hero like Windranger (which is meta), it’s really reasonable to buy items like Atos (second item) or items like Halberd.
Overall, you could use Mek, Drums, Solar Crest, Crimson Guard, Pipe, Atos, Halberd and a good alternative to help you with team fights in Aghs! Nature’s prophet shard is really nice if you can get to pick it up for free, as the slow on the opponents is pretty annoying. Lastly, never buy boots UNLESS you aim for Guardian Greeve’s or Boots of Bearing, and even then, pick it up lastly.
6) Friends & Foes
Overall, unlike Nature's Prophet core, you don’t have many mid-game “bad” matchups, but you really have a lot in the laning stage matchups.
For example, NP core has many "bad" matchups like Storm, Bounty, Spirit Breaker, and overall anything that can mess up with him globally when he tries to splitpushNature’s prophet has a hard time versus high armor heroes like Bounty Hunter or Legion commander where his Overwhelming odds get to deal more damage due to the extra treants.
In the mid-game, Spirit Breaker and Bounty Hunter are annoying, but I would not call them counters as support mainly because the amount of sustain we provide easily overlaps their damage. We focus primarily on grouping up rather than splitpushing
And this is where the guide comes to an end. I understand that people might be negative about that, and this is the reason why I played that many games. I felt 16 games, on my bracket with a hero I have no experty would be a good sample to see if it's even a thing,

Not by dying of old age or disease...no! He's going to die from sitting on a chair. That's just hilarious to me. He became the electric chair's bitch.

2023.05.28 14:08 Noah-n_Cares My long term gf (f21) moved out with only 3 days notice, and I (m20) don’t know what to do?
(Context) My gf and I would have been together for 3 years in October, and our 1 year anniversary of living together would be in august.
I met my girlfriend in college, we didn’t have any classes together but we had a mutual friend, and we hit it off almost immediately. So much so that she took me on an hour long road trip only a week after meeting me.
I asked her to be my girlfriend at the midpoint of the fall semester and we were inseparable from them on.
Fast forward a year or so and we’ve been dating a while, we decide to move in together. We figure that since she no longer wants to live with her mom, and neither of us can really afford to live in Austin Texas alone, we could move out here together.
That’s what we did.
This last year hasn’t been easy, roaches and fleas and living downtown have put a stress on things, but we always leaned on each other and pushed thru. We are a couple after all.
I’d like to mention that thru-out all of this we have been talking about our future, coming up with kid names and discussing where we will go next, together. As couples do. I mention this to emphasize that this relationship is v much serious to both of us.
Anyways,
About 4 months before our lease is up we decide to start looking for a new apt. We know Austin TX better now, we know where the things we like are at and I got both of us much better paying jobs so we know what we can afford.
We find and apply for this absolutely perfect apt. Double the space of our current place, newly renovated, huge patio, in room laundry, amenities out-the-wa-zoo. Living here would be “like a vacation every day” she liked to say.
To put it lightly, it was perfect.
We were all set to sign a 12 month lease here and work and enjoy the year together. Just existing with one another. I was literally the happiest I’ve ever been.
For about a month.
Summer kicks off, as do UNI applications.
She applies to 3 schools, 2 cool ones in Austin and one 2 hours north. She doesn’t get into either schools in Austin, but (as we knew she would) she receives a letter confirming her status for Texas state university. Almost 2 hours from where I am now.
“We have plans lined up for the next year, we’ll talk about this when fall rolls around” I foolishly thought.
“She wouldn’t do anything without consulting me 1st”I trusted.
“No matter what, I can count on her doing the right thing” I said.
I was wrong.
The day she starts her new job (that I got her), I pick her up from work, we drive home, I make dinner, and cuddle up to her on the couch to watch a movie, and she says the dreaded words.
“I need to tell you something”.
She then goes on to tell me that she got into uni, and what’s to take the classes in person, and not just any classes but 4 of them. She informs me that she does not want to move into the apt we lined up, that she is going to be moving into an apt alone at the college and not only that, but she has already signed a lease and leaves for uni at the end of the week.
My heart sinks of course.
We still have about 3 months on our current lease, we had been officially offered this new apt. And without considering how any of it makes me feel, she is abandoning me without so much as an opportunity to convince her otherwise.
I beg and plead but “she knows what she wants” and “her mind is made up”.
She leaves that Friday, while I’m not home, and doesn’t even say goodbye.
She says she would love to try a long distance relationship. And that all of her feelings for me are still there, that I need to be supportive and that anything else would be selfishness.
Anyone who has had there heart broken like this knows all you want is to be with that person again. But this has hurt me, deeply.
I feel abandoned, I feel she put her wants over our relationship’s needs, I feel she is selfish and uncaring for me.
She has hurt me.
But every time we talk (which is once or twice a day) she reassures me that she loves me and will be back to live with me in 2 years, and that I just need to be patient.
Idk if it’s fair to me to give her that kind of a free pass here.
I want to love her and miss her but I also want to be mad and angry for the emotional and financial burden she is putting on me, without so much as a warning.
Someone told me “don’t fall in love with someone twice, the second time ur falling in love with the memories not the person”.
I don’t know if I should break up with her and attempt to move on, for her selfishness and non caring about me and my feelings in this manner, or if it’s fair to wait for 2 years to be with her again.
I can visit her, she can visit me, and I trust her to stay loyal while not living with me. But idk if she deserves to be with me anymore.
I guess I just need an outsiders perspective.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The Benefits of Using a Moving Service
Moving to a new home can be an exciting but stressful time. One way to alleviate some of the stress is by using a moving service. Here are some benefits of using a moving service:
- Convenience: A moving service can handle all aspects of your move, from packing and loading your belongings to transporting them to your new home. This saves you time and energy that you can use to focus on other aspects of your move, such as finding a new school or job.
- Expertise: Professional movers are experienced in handling delicate and valuable items, such as antiques, artwork, and electronics. They have the right equipment and techniques to ensure that your belongings are packed and transported safely.
- Insurance: Reputable moving services offer insurance for your belongings during the move. This provides added protection and peace of mind in case anything is damaged or lost during the move.

- Safety: Moving heavy and bulky items can be dangerous if you don’t have the right equipment and training. Professional movers know how to safely lift and move heavy items, reducing the risk of injury.
- Flexibility: Moving services offer a range of services, from full-service packing and moving to labor-only services. This allows you to choose the level of assistance that best fits your needs and budget.
Moving Truck Driver is a great option for those who need to transport their belongings in a U-Haul or Penske truck. They specialize in driving these trucks and can make the moving process smoother and less stressful.
Finding Housing in California
Finding a place to live in California can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. Here are some tips for finding housing unique to the area:

- Use online resources: There are many websites that can help you find apartments or homes for rent or sale. Zillow, Trulia, and Redfin are just a few of the popular ones.
- Be prepared to act fast: The California housing market moves quickly, so be prepared to act fast when you find a place you like. Make sure you have all the necessary documents ready, and be ready to put down a deposit.

- Change your address: Don’t forget to change your address with the post office and any other relevant institutions, such as your bank and credit card companies.
Connecting with a Reputable Realtor
Connecting with a reputable realtor when moving to California can have many benefits. A realtor can provide you with valuable information about the local housing market, help you find the right neighborhood, and negotiate the best deal on your behalf. Here are some reasons why you should consider connecting with a realtor:
- Knowledge of the local market: A realtor has access to information about the local housing market, such as property values, trends, and inventory. This information can be invaluable when making decisions about where to live and what to pay for your new home.
- Professional expertise: A realtor is a trained and licensed professional who knows how to navigate the complex process of buying or renting a home. They can guide you through the entire process, from searching for properties to closing the deal.
- Network of contacts: A realtor has a network of contacts in the real estate industry, including other realtors, lenders, and home inspectors. They can use their contacts to help you find the right property and ensure that your transaction goes smoothly.
- Negotiation skills: A realtor is trained in the art of negotiation and can help you get the best deal possible on your new home. They can work with the seller or landlord to negotiate a fair price, terms, and conditions.
- Legal protection: A realtor can help you navigate the legal aspects of buying or renting a home, including contracts, disclosures, and inspections. They can also help you understand your rights and obligations as a buyer or tenant.

2023.05.28 13:57 Colt_Leasure The family next door disappeared. The answer to their vanishing is in the woods.
1
I live in a suburb surrounded by forest. My house is in a row of other properties built next to a tree line. The neighborhood was always quiet. The sounds of crickets, birds, and sight of black bears were routine on most summer days.
The scenic area was something I was always grateful for. I lived completely alone since the death of my parents. An accidental fire took both of their lives. Once I collected my inheritance, I relocated to a much more peaceful region. I had always fantasized about moving there.
I tried to start a relationship with Samantha. I had gone to High School with her sixteen years before. She had gone on to become a respected Detective. My attempt at something long lasting with her failed. She was too career oriented. I was reeling from grief. Focusing on building something meaningful with her was a pipe dream.
Things around my community changed once the Murphy family went missing.
The first sign that something was off on that Wednesday was how their blinds had closed. Their silver Chevy Chrysler remained parked in the driveway.
A tennis instructor at the country club noticed the wife of that house did not show up for the program. He called their number to make sure everything was alright. When no one responded, he notified the authorities. Rumors abounded immediately among the home owners association about an alleged affair. The gossip only furthered when the married couple and their three kids were not found in the abode.
I watched from my balcony as the patrolmen roped the place off with caution tape. The domicile was a three story building with brick chimney’s and a few peaked roofs in the style of English towers. They were beige, light blue and crimson.
On the morning of the Murphy’s desertion of society, the architecture became a hollow image. It was one that was once filled with activity and life.
The law did what they could. Any success they may have had in the investigation was secret. A few months passed by and they removed the caution tape.
I followed the on-line police logs. The weather was pristine and clear the day they vanished. The fact that there were no witnesses to what direction they may have gone disturbed me.
I had heard how the man, Frank Murphy, had a bit of a temper and always had a bourbon in hand. I had heard mutual friends describe him as an alcoholic in denial of his servitude to liquor. He was an indignant individual who knew no true repercussions for his behavior. He always had bail money from a software company he founded and sold a long time ago.
I was never close to that family, but I peered out at their vacant house far more than I ever had. I was in need of an answer. What could have happened?
2
I called Samantha one evening as I sat on my bed, wondering how she would respond to my reaching out. We were never argumentative or on bad terms. I still worried about her reaction, and hoped it would not be a dismissive one.
I heard her say hello. Her voice still impressed me. I had almost forgotten how silky her tone was. I knew it could change to a much firmer pitch when she was interviewing a suspect.
“Hi, Sam. I’d like to know if you’d be free tomorrow for a cup of coffee. We can go to that place, The Bean Field, off Pond road. It’s been a while and I know you have a lot to tell me about what’s new in your life.”
There was a pause on the other end, and for a second a bout of anxiety hit me. I judged my own words as robotic, stilted, and sure to push her away. I reasoned she was summoning an excuse to get out of having to interact with me. How dare I presume she would even entertain the notion of having a meeting.
“That sounds great,” she said. “Tomorrow is my day off, luckily for you. I’m in the middle of an incident right now. It’s a five car pile-up about forty minutes from where you live. I’ve gotta run. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
When she hung up, I was triumphant. I looked at our old text conversations. I realized we had not been in communication with each other for over twelve months. Now was my opportunity to reconcile that gap of unintended avoidance. I knew it would be an undeserved opportunity.
3
I sat outside of the cafe the next morning at a black metal table. I had a view of rolling hills dotted with trees. A highway with multitudinous shrubberies sat on either side of it. I sipped a piccolo latte while waiting for her.
When she arrived and stepped out of her hatchback in the parking lot, her appearance floored me. She had not dressed up for our supposed date, but that did not make a difference. She had arrived from the gym and wore shorts and a top set. She donned a gray and green hoodie.
She sat across from me and reached for the menu.
“Can you go to the front and order me avocado toast?” Samantha asked. “I’ll also take a mocha with a few shots of espresso. Please.”
I did exactly that. When I returned with her items, she apologized for consuming her meal in less than two minutes.
“I hadn’t eaten since five PM yesterday,” she said between sips.
“I understand,” I said. “I doubt you ever have a consistent schedule anymore.”
“You’re right, but that’s why I have to enjoy my free time when I can.”
We settled into talking about what had happened since we last saw each other. I referenced my trying to learn another language (French) with the hopes of moving to Europe or Canada.
After fifteen minutes of small talk, I asked her about work, but I did so with caution. It started with me wondering about what the call she was on when we were on the phone was about.
“A drunk driver blew a stop sign and hit two other vehicles,” she said. “It was ugly. A few people died. We’ll see if the man in silk pajamas gives him the proper sentence or a traffic citation.”
“You know, I’m curious about what happened to the Murphy’s, if they’re hurt or not.”
“You and everyone else,” she said. “We’ve been getting so many witness accounts, and so far they’ve all been bogus. All I know is what I saw when I got there.”
“I didn’t know you were one of the responders,” I said.
“Yeah. Something about the place was off from the moment I walked in. I found heavy items in placed they should not have been in. The toolbox was not in the garage but on the second story. A disassembled snowblower lay scattered everywhere in pieces. The oven door was on their bed. Frank Murphy was not the strongest guy in the world, either. For him to cause the kind of property damage I saw doesn’t make a lot of sense. At the risk of sounding crazy, inexplicable things happened when I was there.”
“Like what?”
“I was under the impression that something was playing a trick on me. Electrical outlets sparked a few times out of nowhere. The ceiling fan would go from still to spinning when I looked up at it. Books would fall off of the shelves. A volume on black magic, of all things, almost hit the top of my head when I walked on by. Another book about fairies collapsed with it.”
“So the home intruder set up a bunch of weird diversions,” I said. “I’ve heard of that before. These killers or kidnappers want the victims to think there was more than one of them. It’s so their account’s disputed in court.”
I’ll tell you right now,” she said, “we didn’t find any outside DNA.”
“So it’s a case of family annihilation,” I said as I took a long swig of my beverage. “I don’t know if you can substantiate the facts, but a few people have said that Emily had a big life insurance policy. Frank knew about. He may have been using steroids and having an affair, and that could have contributed to-“
It occurred to me that she eyed me with suspicion, as though I was digging too deep. I could also tell she regretted letting information about the forensic results slip.
She stood up and stared at me with a flash of anger in her eyes.
“I thought you wanted to piece something back together with me,” she said. “I didn’t know you wanted to play armchair investigator like every true crime fan. You know, your parents were kind. I wish you’d follow their example. I’ll let you get the bill.”
She walked back to her vehicle and I knew it would be a while before we conversed again.
Later that night, I stared out my window at the Murphy home. I saw a star shoot across the sky, and it almost seemed ready to plummet into the side of their house.
4
The next evening, I took a walk around the suburb. I spotted a thin line of dried red fluid along a path which led into the woods.
I was attempting to get in some movement to get my mind off of the events of the day before. Negativity and self-deprecation were all-consuming. I felt the need for a long saunter to try and release some of the meandering and pessimistic energy I accrued.
When I saw the carmine ribbon along the dark soil, a sense of worry filled me. I was not that far removed from a cul-de-sac with palatial manors a block away. There was no way I could speculate on me being the first to see it.
Could it be a hint where they are? I thought.
The notion seemed absurd, a reach.
I had read in the local newspaper that there was an uptick in bobcat sightings due to recent wildfires. The animals relocated during prior summers. I reasoned it could have been a house pet which became a victim after it got snatched away into the overgrowth.
I followed it, and the uneven road of red stretched on past many bushes and over logs. A shrill chirping in the background became louder. I moved between two conifers with petrified wood and found myself in a part of the forest I had never been in.
There were so many branches that it blacked out the falling sun. Ahead of me was a clearing. A swarm of gnats and mosquitos descended upon it. The sea of insects soared together in chaotic unison as a wave among the sedges and lichen.
I looked towards the right of the meadow and saw a ramshackle tree house. I trailed the red line towards it. I peered in through one of the windows and saw a statue of a woman with wings. I knew she was not an angel. There was no halo, nor were her organs of flight feathery, but rather they were thin and bat-like.
I entered the place knowing the danger I was putting myself in. I had tracked mud in and was oblivious to the incriminating actions I partook in. I was trespassing and risking stumbling into whoever may have owned the land. My curiosity got the better of me and caused me to keep moving forward.
The room was sparse but decorated. The walls had carvings of men and women, also with wings. Their bodies held yogic-like positions as they reached out to one another mid-air.
A piece of parchment with a few words sat in the corner. I picked it up and read it:
‘Humans are the greatest living beings to play tricks on. Especially when they go through a time of drought and extreme cold.’
I sat it down where I found it, unsure of what to make of it.
I touched the central figure’s neck. The chiseling was not only cold, but below freezing, as though I had submerged my hand in a polar pool.
The noise of some kind of bird attempting to escape a confined space reverberated below me.
Something brushed against my leg. I looked down and saw an army of glow bugs float up between the cracks, and they circled around me. They were like dragon flies. At the time I had labeled them as such, but in reality their shapes were far too humanoid.
I walked back home. I went to bed and slept. I was still perturbed at the wine-colored avenue and cabin.
I awoke in the middle of the night after something tapped at my walls from the outside. I peered out and saw the Murphy home, and observed how the blinds over their casements were wide open. A hive of mites filled every inch of the interior.
5
I found the decomposing body of a chipmunk stuffed into the tailpipe of my vehicle the next day.
This horrified me, because the deliberation of the act was too evident to ignore. While I did have a surveillance camera on my porch, the coverage of my vehicle was non-existent. I calmed myself down by thinking it was likely a tempestuous child. I retrieved a pair of medical gloves and disposed of the creature before going on with the errand. The rotting body had a horrible smell. It was like an onion left out in humidity for days, and my stomach turned as I sealed it off in the garbage with the lid.
The next morning, I looked in my closet. Some of my favorite shirts had disintegrated. Holes and patches of destroyed fabric littered them. I found it odd, and even searched on-line for possible answers before I decided it had to be a moth infestation. I sprayed lavender. Information on a website statEd that was a cure-all, but the problem persisted. It bothered me that I had not seen a single aphid, but I pushed that concern away.
A few days afterward, when I had tossed my disheveled pieces of attire, the power in my house went out. This was not such an unusual occurrence during the heavy winter months. For it to occur in the summer was strange.
It was a rolling blackout. Once my house had electricity again, I noticed how someone moved items around.
Something turned my kitchen table on its side and stuffed into a part of the kitchen I would have never placed it in.
I grabbed a butcher knife and did a sweep of the premises, and I did not find anything. There were no footprints or signs of anything else tampered with. When I got to the second story, birds nested along the tree tops, and the repugnant odor of fish attacked me.
My allergies became insufferable over the next month. Nothing purchased over the counter which helped it.
6
I went to the beach on an overcast day. After roughly half a mile of walking, I saw an illustration someone had drawn in the sand with a stick. It was of a being with airfoils.
A light precipitation had fallen earlier. As I trailed along the former part of the sand, a glint in the corner of my eye caught my attention. I looked out at the water and saw what appeared to be a light blue outline of wings beneath the surface.
A phosphorescent wall of creatures surrounded me.
As the days march on, I know I am stalked by something I cannot rebel against, let alone have any agency or autonomy over. My pillowcases have shredded, the pipes in my basement have burst, and someone left me a gift at my front door. When I opened it, I saw mice scurry away. It was a book, and it was one about the history of fairies.
I picked it up and had to blow the dust off of it. Someone had stolen it from a musty subterranean chamber and brought it here.
I theorized that it was Samantha, passive aggressive with her disappointment in me. Yet I flip through its pages and find it all too familiar. I cannot help but wonder if this is a sign of something far more dangerous.
