2023.05.30 23:10 reariri Do other cities close roads in the summer?

I am asking this because i saw this last year. In Bucharest they close some main roads in the center (while there already is a center where no cars are allowed). One of those roads also has the best/safest cycle road of the whole city.
So a few months ago, when the weather was nice, i thought, let's get a bike. I go from the south to the north of the city to a pub i like to go to (normally take the metro), but then found out that i got stopped by every policy agent every 500m on the road of 5km long. Because cycling is also not allowed on that road.
That felt pretty bad to me, i like the idea of closing roads in the summer for cars, but seems they close it for bikes also.
I know, officially a bike should be on the normal road, but is too dangerous and most persons cycle on the walking paths. But as this road is blocked for any vehicle, only walking is allowed. But am pretty sad that this also close the best and almost only official cycle road.

2023.05.30 23:06 quantXtnaup Eureka commute is soul crushing.

I commute from the south into the north end of Eureka. Traversing Broadway 2 to 4 time a day has taken its toll on my mental health. It has crushed my soul to where I'm a shell of my former self.
Seriously, I want to reignite the plans to build a Eureka Bypass. There is no reason for a county seat to have as bad of a city layout as Eureka has. Eureka needs to be a forward-thinking city.
I ask ChatGPT for advice, this is the response:
It's understandable to want to improve a commute. Infrastructure changes, like building a freeway bypass, are complex endeavors that involve a number of steps. Below is a general guide on how to get started. However, remember that every situation is unique, so the steps may vary slightly.
  1. **Research & Proposal:** Begin with a research about the problem. Collect data and information about the commute, such as the time it takes, the number of cars on the road, accident rates, etc. Also, investigate how the construction of a bypass would benefit the community, including aspects like reduced commuting time, potential economic benefits, environmental impact, and more. This research will form the basis of your proposal.
  2. **Community Support:** Organize a community meeting or start a petition to show that there is public support for the project. Use social media, local newspapers, and community meetings to make the community aware of the project and the benefits it could bring.
  3. **Local Government:** Present your proposal to your local government. This could include your city council, county commissioners, and transportation department. They can provide valuable advice, and you'll need their support to proceed.
  4. **State Transportation Agency:** If your local government supports your proposal, the next step is to contact your state's Department of Transportation (Caltrans in California) or another relevant agency. Present your proposal and show them the support you've received from your local community and government.
  5. **State and Federal Elected Officials:** Reach out to your state and federal elected officials, such as your state representatives, state senator, and U.S. congressperson. If they support your proposal, they can advocate for it at the state and federal level.
  6. **Funding:** Large infrastructure projects like this one require significant funding. This could come from a variety of sources, such as state and federal government budgets, grants, or public-private partnerships. Having the support of your elected officials can be very helpful in securing funding.
  7. **Environmental Impact Study & Public Comment:** Most large infrastructure projects require an Environmental Impact Study to assess the potential environmental effects. There's also usually a public comment period where community members can voice their support or opposition to the project.
  8. **Planning, Design, and Construction:** If all the above steps are successful, the project can move into the planning, design, and construction phases. These phases can take several years to complete.
Remember, this is a long process and may take many years. Stay committed, stay involved, and keep the community informed and involved. You're right that nothing is insurmountable with determination and patience! Good luck!
Anyone reading this that has any pull with the city, county, or state, please let's get this back on the docket.
Thank you.

2023.05.30 22:52 mnfrench2010 What fun for older folks

Mid-50’s, don’t get to the big city often. But I scored tickets for a concert next weekend, and figured I’d make a weekend of it.
I’m well aware of 6th street and all that it offers. I’m looking for something ‘walkable’ on a June evening along the south side near Congress.

2023.05.30 22:45 StudyUseful5681 Outdoor Dining is Crumbling

Looks like the Bee saw my earlier post.
They call attention to the fact that, for the most part, people enjoyed outdoor dining during the pandemic. Today, the program that's supposed to make outdoor dining permanent is crumbling.
How does Reddit feel about this? Personally, I'm dismayed that the Al Fresco program is inefficient, and I consider it a failure. The only thing it has accomplished is removing parklets and outdoor dining from the grid. Summer is here, and I would really love to enjoy dining on R street, or in the pop-up near Beast and Bounty. And who doesn't love the Rind's parklet? While I understand the need to change it to be ADA compliant and what not, its unfortunate that the Al Fresco program is prohibitively expensive to allow for the Rind to retro-fit their parklet. From the article:
"Yet $20,000 won’t cover retrofitting all patios to meet city codes. That’s one reason The Rind is removing its L Street patio, owner Sara Arbabian said, along with the strain it put on her small restaurant’s kitchen staff. To be compliant with the city’s new requirements, The Rind’s lifted wood patio needed a ramp or wheelchair lift, better drainage and to ensure that their structure didn’t stress the roots of a large tree that sat in the center. It’d cost $30,000-$40,00 to renovate on top of sunk costs".
The article mentions that some restaurants have managed to make the Al Fresco program work for them, but these restaurants seem like exceptions to the rule. At this point in the year, it's mind-boggling to me that we are still this far behind and no new parklets have been completed. Of the 85 restaurants that applied for the initial temporary grants, only one of them has applied for the formal program. This makes me think that the new program is prohibitively expensive.
Serious reform is needed here IMO. Open to your thoughts as well. Going to paste the article in the comments.

2023.05.30 22:41 drewsclue So no more multiple cities, is that correct?

Sounds terrible honestly. I guess San Andreas is still going to be the undeniably best Rockstar game for the next 20 years just like it was for the previous 20. They’re whole selling point was multiple cities and a flying South of the border narrative which sounded awesome, fresh and exciting. Nobody wants to play around in GTA5: 1.5 for the next 20 years. The hell were they doing for 12-13 years? Goofing off? I honestly think this “RAGE” engine is just too difficult to work with to get anything done in a timely manner. Especially for any new developers that joined after all of their best ones left with Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser, Lazlow and Imran Sarwar. What do you guys think?

2023.05.30 22:25 anitalerer Parents In Law Anniversary

Hi NOLA friends,
As I have read the FAQ, I will be as specific as possible. My boyfriend and I are visiting from Toronto and staying with his mom and stepdad who have lived in NOLA for 10+ years. Our stay happens to fall on their anniversary.
I have short listed the following bars as potential predinner drink spots: Jewel of the South, Cure (because of Top 50 bar list), and Bar Tonique (because I see it mentioned on this sub), Seaworthy (because oysters).
I am looking for a dinner spot in walking proximity to one of these establishments. We are in our early 30s, they are in their early 50s. Something that would be out of their regular everyday routine and comfort zone (I don’t think they go out a ton) but also approachable, laidback, tasty and quality - not super fancy/white table cloth. I don’t want it to be an anxiety inducing situation - moms likes oysters but otherwise I think both are more meat centric, stepdad is a very much beer miller high life kinda guy.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Your city always treats us well so I’m sure wherever we go will be amazing, I am just trying to eliminate the burden of decision making.

2023.05.30 22:21 __SinglePlayer__ I am about to finish my Bachelor in Computer Science and need your advice about where to go from here?

I will try to keep this short enough and yet provide all the information needed. Firstly, some basic information about me - I am 23 years old and live in Croatia (Europe). Currently, I am on my last year of undergraduate studies for Computer Science. Since I am about to finish my studies in 2 weeks, I will be at the point where I can finally decide "what next", since this step of my life will be over.
I will provide all kind of different and seemingly disconnected information in this post, just in order to present my character as accurate as possible.
There are things I do like, things I do not like, and things I hate about my current path. Firstly, I love to code - but I hate things such as web development. Instead, I like algorithms, AI, statistics, things that make me think and solve the problems. I love math as well. I also like physics, enjoyed it a lot in high school, but ended up in software industry due to better job opportunities.
If we talk about things related to coding/software, I seem to find interest in things related to data. It just amazes me that data is everywhere, like in every machine, in speech, on the Internet, and all that data can be very useful if used correctly. I like to read and learn about how to store data, how to extract meaningful information, how to use and process that data and so on. Well, since this is the case - I had this idea of having a Master in Data Science - and so far this seems to be the most probable choice, since it is the "most realistic one".
If we talk about other things related to computers, I think cybersecurity is interesting (but am scared that actual work in the industry is far different and more boring than in the movies). I also like to read about neuroscience & psychology (I know this is kind of unrelated). As for Data Science - there are two options: stay in Croatia or move to Vienna - this is something I believe to be a good opportunity - it is Uni that is not hard to get in, has okay reputation (not good not terrible), city is nice, courses seem to be flexible, there are a lot of students and young people in general & I love Austrian culture. So yeah, seems fine! Salary should be good as well once I graduate.
If I talk about my long term job sometimes in the future, here is the thing that bothers me. I would HATE to work in a place where I can not be creative, learn and generally move forward, and just work my thing alone for 8 hours a day sitting on a chair and looking at the screen. Hell no. I want something more adventurous, something where I can be creative, create new things, do the research and so on.
What I would absolutely LOVE one day (the sooner the better) is to have my own company. I just have no idea where to start. The reason I want this is not financial - at least not in the first place. I am aware that I need to take care of finances to make things work and also to have some money to pay the bills, but I really want more than that. The reason why I would like to have a company is not to "become a billionaire", but instead to build something from scratch, to help others, to develop, to hire people, to learn, to grow, and to do something great for humanity. For example, if I could get into gambling industry, I would probably deny that - since I do not believe this is very helpful to society. I also like to play with numbers, so probably thinking about business strategies would make me very happy.
Also, I am fully aware that creating a company is not just "fun" and "easy money", but really about hard work, putting in the time and effort and comiting long term to it. But to me, it seems like much more enjoyable journey than working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week job.
If you asked me about any specific industry I would love to work in, I am not sure. However, there is one particular "general idea" (note, just an idea, I have no business plan and this is something I should think about if I decide to make this happen) is to have a platform/company that is related to "investigative journalism".Why?
Reason #1: I love the thrill, I always get a rush of adrenaline when thinking about something dangerous. It is almost as it makes me feel alive. Discovering affairs, getting insider information and so on, you get the point...
Reason #2: Data. Did I say I like data? Yes. Well isn't big part of journalism about data? I would like to work with it.
Reason #3: Transparency. I feel like information people get is very limited. People go out and vote. They decide to support one side or another politically. They go to wars. Lose lives. And I feel like all those people deserve to know more about what is going on, about things that might not be available to the public right now. (this is "helping the humanity part")
Reason #4: Art. I love creativity. I like, for example, photography, videography, and editing. I love how free you are to express yourself on various topics, how you can create something amazing and send a message in this way.
Reason #5: I do believe that there are no high quality media houses in this part of the world. There are many journalists who write about bullshit topics or just never go in depth with the research. It is about quantity and not quality, and I do want to have different business strategy. Also, I do think that this part of the world (south-east Europe is politically very interesting, and yet it lacks media coverage, everything is very biased and researched only on the surface levels)
Cons #1: I know nothing about journalism.
Cons #2: I have no idea where to start.
Cons #3: I have no money to invest. But I have the time and desire.
About some other hobbies, I like to travel, to read, I love motorsport sport, spending time in nature, watching documentaries, hiking, gym, art, philosophy, politics, reading about investigations/crimes, martial arts, and more. I am just mentioning this for no reason other to just not forget about those. I am aware that career can not be related to everything.Where do I go from here?
So far, I feel like I'd be best to go to that DS Master, work part time to make a living, and in free time work on my company and do my best to make things work. When I happen to have some extra time, I will enjoy my other hobbies, friends and so on, but this will not be career related. This way, if the company fails, I will still have a degree and be able to find a decent job. If it succeed, I will be the happiest person alive.
Thoughts?

Edit: I also find joy in things like micro mechanics, like watches, and similar. But whatever, this is more of a small interest of mine than something I would make a career of.

2023.05.30 22:00 Galdi-br My players allied with Jarlaxle and ditched the Cassalanters, what happens now?

Alexandrian remix
After the Fireball my players were contacted by the Cassalanters and agreed to help their innocent child cursed by “some evil devil worshippers”. They agreed to take whatever was left of the gold.
They then tip-off Jarlaxle about the Grand Game by asking about the Gralhund Nimblewright.
The Gralhund heist happens, things go south, the entire family dies, they end up with the stone but are detained by the guards, awaiting trial in a tenday (https://www.reddit.com/WaterdeepDragonHeist/comments/13mxyj0/the_gralhunds_are_dead_i_need_help/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
Trial happens, they get a lawyer sponsored by the Cassalanters. Lord Victoro (a masked lord in my game) is also present at the trial, but the players never met him and didn’t know he was there. Laeral was also there.
During trial, the evidence (Gralhund reports on grand game) is read out loud, since they were apprehended in possession of a PC.
So now people who were at the trial know about something called Stone of Golorr, that it probably was in Gralhund possession, and is now missing.
Jarlaxle, knowing everything that transpired because of the Nimblewright crystal, offers to aid in trial by testifying in their behalf that the Nimble sold could have went berserk due to interference by the family. In return, he asks for an audience in his Theater.
The PCs eventually get off with fines and edicts, but no death penalty. Only the Zhentarim were condemned to death.
After they’re released and are done with the press, they meet with Zord (they don’t know about drow yet). He proposes that they work together to find the Eyes and use the Stone to find the Gold and save the city of Luskan, that is suffering without the Lord’s Alliance protection. Whatever gold isn’t needed to buy their way in, the PCs can have as a reward (he’s also doing this to secure the Dragonstaff for himself, which he suspects is also hidden there).
The players agree that saving a city is better than saving two children, and they had some “creepy vibes” from the Cassalanters (all tieflings servants, curses, bankers, etc). They don’t know the Cassalanters have one of the eyes.
So they made this deal and left the theater, on their way to the Cassalanters, who will question them about the whereabouts of Golorr, and probably catch them on their lies.
How would you play the factions now, how would you procced?

2023.05.30 21:33 SabbyOfSableWine When a cold-blooded alien has to cuddle a warm-blooded human for warmth *wink wink* (wholesome content incoming)

This is the third part of my series featuring the adventures of Vr'ocria and Human Aldrick. Parts one and two are linked below, along with summaries if you don't care to read the whole thing and just want to jump right in :)
Part One: Alien learns what "sleep" is and how humans prefer to do it in a comfy bed with blankets and pillows. And they find it utterly adorable.
Vr'ocria and Human Aldrick are sent on a survey mission together. Things go south, Aldrick makes sure they're safe, and then Vr'ocria learns what human sleep is and how vulnerable humans are when they sleep. Vr'ocria's people don't sleep, but enter stasis, a form of rest in which they typically stand, and they are still slightly aware of their surroundings. Vr'ocria finds human sleep utterly adorable, and also decides she will protect Aldrick while he sleeps. And she also develops a massive crush on him. (Her scales turning purple is her version of blushing)
Part Two: An alien + human adventure with such shenanigans as poison drinking, befriending dangerous wildlife, and fighting a space pirate. Oh, and they have a huge crush on each other.
Vr'ocria and Human Aldrick end up assigned together for another survey mission. Vr'ocria tries to deny her feelings for Aldrick after a tense conversation with her nestmate about the danger of humans, but when they're ambushed in the night by a pirate and Aldrick takes a blow to save her, becoming injured in the process, she comes to realize just how strongly she feels for him. She carries him to safety and the two share a tender moment, but nothing yet happens between them.
Now, on to the story!

Planet Gamma-5 was cold. Very cold. Vr'ocria had heard about snow, but she'd never seen it before. She might've thought the glowing, snowy landscape was beautiful if she wasn't so blasted cold.
A shock of icy wind blew her hood off her head, and she yanked it back on with a huff of frustration. She was not built for the cold, and her heated suit only did so much to keep her warm.
"Still doing okay?" A familiar voice carried from across the frozen river.
Vr'ocria turned towards the voice to see her favorite human, Aldrick, perched on a snow-covered boulder on the opposite side of the river. A bundle of warmth that had nothing to do with the heated suit burst at her spine. He knew about her cold-blooded nature, and ever since landing, he was constantly checking in on her.
"I think I'm done for the day," she shouted back.
Aldrick climbed down from the boulder and approached the edge of the river.
"You're not about to try to cross the ice, are you?" Vr'ocria called quickly. "It looks thin!"
"I don't want to walk all the way back down!" He shoved his scanner into his coat pocket. "Don't worry, I got this."
Vr'ocria ran to the edge of the ice, her scales standing on end inside her suit as she watched him…lay down?
Rather than step foot on the ice, Aldrick laid down on his stomach, and began scooting and sliding himself across the river. Despite how thin it was, the ice didn't crack once.
Vr'ocria crouched and held out her gloved hand when he was close, and helped pull him onto the bank. "Thanks," he grinned as he climbed to his feet.
She was still staring at the uncracked ice. "How did you…?"
"Weight distribution," he explained. "It's how polar bears on Earth cross thin ice."
Polar bears? Vr'ocria decided she didn't want to ask about what was surely some terrifying Earth creature.
Aldrick was looking her up and down as he spoke, taking in her miserable expression and how she clutched at her suit. "Let's get you inside."
Vr'ocria didn't argue. The two of them made the trek back to their cabin, provided courtesy of the survey department. A wall of heat washed over them as they entered, and she collapsed into a kitchen chair with a huff. The cabin was small, but leagues better than the tiny shuttle pod from their last survey mission. There was a kitchen/living area, a waste room, and resting quarters with both a bed for Aldrick and a stasis chamber for herself.
Not that she planned to use it. She never took stasis inside a chamber when she was with Aldrick. She knew how vulnerable humans were when they slept, and so she swore she would protect him, since her people were still slightly aware while they rested in stasis. Whenever Aldrick slept, she always stood by him–typically between him and the door–and entered stasis there, ready to jump into action if anything happened.
It had already saved them once.
Once she caught her breath, Vr'ocria switched off the heating mechanism in her suit and tugged it off. She shivered in her undergarments for all of two seconds before Aldrick was wrapping a heated blanket around her and ushering her to the sofa, pushing a mug of warm broth into her hands at the same time.
Sinking into the cushions, she blinked down at the broth. "When did you make this? We just got back."
"I put it on the stove and had it simmering since we arrived to the planet this morning. I figured you would need it." He pulled the blanket tighter around her, a glower cast over his features. "They never should've assigned you to this planet. They know you're cold-blooded."
Vr'ocria smiled. She couldn't help it.
Aldrick fussed over her a bit longer than he needed to. When she finally assured him she was fine, he rose and grabbed his communicator. "I need to make a quick call. Yell if you need anything."
She hummed in acknowledgement, her breath rippling over the broth as she took a sip. Aldrick disappeared into the resting quarters, shutting the door behind him.
Vr'ocria was still enjoying her broth when Aldrick's voice carried through the closed door. "I don't care if it's her job! Doing her job doesn't mean she should suffer and potentially die!"
She jerked her head up to stare towards the door. Slowly, she put the mug down and rose to her feet, still clutching the blanket around her shoulders, and crept closer.
"Command knows her biology isn't built for this weather. She's reptilian, she could die!"
Vr'ocria didn't think she'd ever heard him so angry before.
"I don't want to hear it…That heated suit is only meant for short term, if she wears it too long it could burn her …I don't care if I'm out of line! ...Dismiss me, I don't care! But don't you dare, ever, assign her to a tundra planet again," his voice dropped to a growl, "or you'll find out just how dangerous humans can be."
There was the click of a communicator shutting off, and the door opened faster than Vr'ocria could run back to the sofa. Aldrick looked startled to see her standing there. He turned pink. "Oh…s-sorry, how much of that did you hear?"
Vr'ocria just looked at him. "Was that about me?" She asked in a very small voice.
Aldrick's throat bobbed as he swallowed. "Um, yeah…" he kept his eyes trained on the floor. "I'm sorry, I hope I didn't offend you, o-or scare you or anything–I just hate seeing you suffer, and Command never should've done that, and I swear I'm not actually gonna hurt anyone, just maybe pull some strings and make some reports and–" he was babbling now, and Vr'ocria placed a hand on his shoulder. He froze, eyes snapping up to meet her gaze.
She smiled, her scales flushing pink. "Thank you for fighting for me."
The tension seemed to drain out of his body and a tender expression crossed his face. He opened his mouth, but before he could speak, a mechanical whoosh filled the cabin, and the lights went off. A second later, emergency lights flicked on with a click.
"Oh, you're fucking joking," Aldrick moaned, slapping a hand over his eyes.
Vr'ocria glanced around in confusion, tucking her hand back in the blanket. "What knocked the power out? Did it start storming outside?" With the main heater gone, she could already feel the creep of cold prodding at her scales.
Aldrick walked over to the door and peered out the tiny window, the only one in the cabin. "Yep," he confirmed. "There's a blizzard out there. Shit."
If she listened, Vr'ocria realized she could hear the howl of wind slamming against the walls. Thank the planets for a sturdy structure. If only the power main was as durable.
Aldrick gave a resigned sigh. "Well, we still have emergency power. It'll keep us alive, although maybe not very comfortable."
"That's for sure," Vr'ocria muttered, shivering.
Aldrick watched her for a moment, chewing his lip in thought. Abruptly, he grabbed her hand and began leading her into the resting quarters.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"We need to keep you warm." Without warning, he stripped off his clothes until he was only in his undergarments, and her scales burned purple.
"Seriously, what are you doing?"
Rather than answer, he pulled back the thick coverings on the bed and crawled underneath. Once lying down, he held the covers up and looked at her expectantly. "Get in."
She stared at him. "W-what?"
"Get in. If you wear that heated blanket too long it might burn you. I won't."
Vr'ocria finally understood what he was implying. "Are–well–I've never laid in a bed before," she stuttered weakly.
He smiled warmly. "First time for everything."
Vr'ocria hesitated a moment longer before she finally dropped her blanket and clumsily climbed into bed next to Aldrick.
She sucked in a breath when he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her to his bare chest.
Oh planets, he was warm.
Vr'ocria melted instantly, nudging her nose against his collarbone as he tucked the covers around her. Already, the blankets were trapping his body heat around the two of them. The mattress was soft under their bodies, dipping underneath their weight so that they were pressed even closer to each other.
Once he seemed satisfied with the covers, Aldrick's hands landed carefully on her back. He began rubbing gentle circles into her scales, and Vr'ocria sighed at how nice it felt. She'd never felt so warm and safe and lov–
Her thoughts stuttered to a halt.
"You're pink again," Aldrick murmured against the top of her head. "I've been seeing that color on you a lot lately. You still haven't told me what it means."
Vr'ocria squeezed her eyes shut and a groan escaped her. Aldrick pulled back enough to see her face to face. "Hey," he said softly, "what is it?"
"I–" Her voice cracked, and the pink faded to a dull red as grief washed over her. It didn't escape his notice.
"Vr'ocria, what's going on? You can tell me."
"I have a confession," she finally croaked out. "And I understand if you're angry with me."
Aldrick frowned and cocked his head.
"My people…" she forced herself to take a steadying breath. "My people turn pink when we feel particularly strong…emotions...for someone…and when we've formed a mating bond with them."
Aldrick furrowed his brow. "I'm not sure I understand…"
Blast, he's gonna make me say it.
"I've formed a mating bond with you," she blurted out. "I swear I didn't mean to, I wasn't trying, and I swear it doesn't have any psychological or physiological effect on you, just me, and–"
"You're in love with me?"
Vr'ocria's words died in her throat and she looked into Aldrick's eyes. His beautiful, brown, soulful eyes.
"Yes," she whispered.
She braced herself for him to shove her away.
So she was shocked when he yanked her forward to bury his head in the crook of her neck, a hysterical laugh bubbling from his chest. "Oh, Jesus woman, I thought you were allergic to me or something." She could feel his gasping breaths against her scales. "I was so afraid you wanted to leave me."
"You…you're not angry?"
He pulled back to look into her eyes again, taking her face in his blessedly warm hands. "No," he whispered. "Never. Because I also have a confession." His fingers trembled where they rested on her jaw. "I think I'm in love with you too."
All at once, her scales burst into vivid pink, different shades of light and dark rippling through them. "Really?" She said it so quietly that he wouldn't have heard her if they weren't inches from each other.
"Yes," he breathed.
For a long moment they just gazed into one another's other's eyes, drinking each other in.
It was Aldrick who finally broke the silence. "Do you know what a kiss is?"
Vr'ocria shook her head.
"It's a human sign of deep affection." His voice was low and husky. "We typically only do it with those we love very much." He traced her cheek with his thumb. "I'd very much like to kiss you right now…if you're okay with it?"
He loves me? He loves me, he loves me…!
She couldn't get the stupid grin off her face. "Okay." She didn't know what to expect, but somehow that made it more exciting.
Aldrick tilted his chin up, and gently, gently, pressed his lips to her forehead. They were soft and warm. "How was that?"
Vr'ocria's blood rushed through her veins faster than the Aegryan rivers. "Maybe you should do it again."
He smiled. He leaned closer, and she closed her eyes. His lips brushed against her eyelid.
"Again," she sighed. Her eyes stayed closed.
His lips trailed down her cheek, stopping to press against her jaw.
"Again." By now her voice was a barely audible whisper.
His breath was hot against her scales as his lips drifted once more until she felt him hovering just above her own mouth. He stopped, trembling, and she realized he was waiting for permission.
Hesitantly, she placed her hand on the back of his neck, her fingers carding up his nape into his hair. Guided by an instinct that felt both foreign and familiar, she pulled him closer, and their lips collided.
Kissing was so…alien.
But at the same time, it also felt like finding something she'd been missing her entire life. Her blood rushed hot and fast in her veins as Aldrick's lips moved against her own. Pressed against him, she could feel his heart pounding through his chest. Her arms encircled him, her fingers clutching at his skin. She felt as though his body was sinking into hers, and for the first time in her life, she realized what it truly meant to be home.
They finally pulled apart some time later, both of them gasping for breath.
"Whoa," she croaked.
Adrick chuckled. "And that wasn't even French kissing," he said with a coy smile. "I'll show you that another time."
"Oh planets, there's more?"
He laughed. "Don't worry, we'll take it slow. There's no reason to rush."
"Mm." Vr'ocria went back to pressing her face into his bare chest, drinking in the steady tha-thump of his heart. Her hand snaked around his waist, coming to rest on his back. Dancing her fingers over his skin, she could feel scars from the injuries he sustained from their last mission twisting across his back. "I'm still sorry about this," she murmured.
One hand moved up to rest between her shoulder blades, his other coming to clasp the back of her head, pulling her closer, if that was even possible. "It's not your fault. You would've died. I couldn't let that happen."
Vr'ocria squeezed her eyes shut, her spine tight with emotion. "I love you," she whispered into his chest.
"I love you too," Aldrick whispered back.
First off, I want to say THANK YOU for all the love y'all have shown this little story of mine. I didn't intend for this to be a series, but the characters developed a mind of their own, and I got attached lol. Y'all's comments have made me so happy, and I'm so glad I could bring a little bit of enjoyment to your day with these two idiots 💕
Secondly, I think I will keep writing about Vr'ocria and Aldrick as inspiration strikes. I already have a couple of ideas, such as Vr'ocria learning what dreams are when Aldrick has a nightmare, and perhaps some angry space pirates come back for revenge on Vr'ocria, triggering some scary human rage...
But anyway! Goodbye for now, and hopefully I shall see y'all here again soon!

Last challenge:
R1: Delaware. Five states are using a plain circle as (primary) state highway signs: Delaware, New Jersey, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi. As we see a sign to Wilmington (the largest city in Delaware) and Philadelphia (keep in mind: Pennsylvania has a unique state highway sign) we are most likely in Delaware or maybe New Jersey. We see a sign for I-495. When you turn around you see signs for US 13 and US 40. I-495 and US 13 only run through Delaware (and other states) but not through New Jersey. Furthermore, the car in front of us has a Delaware license plate (dark blue background, golden letters). The location itself was a bit tricky. The exit number was the only specific clue where to look. 2 perfect scores. :-)
R2: The new sign of Idaho with just the state outline and without the state name. Older signs also show the state name. Most of southern Idaho lies in the Snake River Plain. Mountains are in northern and south eastern Idaho. The single digit road numbers are clustered in the northern part of Idaho. Many players found the intersection. 12 perfect scores. :-)
R3: New Jersey. There are several clues for New Jersey. You can see the yellow license plates of New Jersey everywhere. The street sign for Nassau Street shows the circle highway sign. This is very common in Delaware and New Jersey. However, a circle with a black background on a green sign is very common in New Jersey and seems to be unique to New Jersey. New Jersey also has signs like in R1. Therefore, a missing black background is not a hint that you are not in New Jersey. The most important clue was written on the newspaper box: Princeton, NJ ;-). 6 perfect scores. :-)
R4: State outline of Arkansas. I-555 is a spur of I-55. Both are easy to find in eastern Arkansas. You could see the freeway entry ramp when you looked north east. 4 perfect scores. :-)
R5: The flag of Colorado on the state highway sign. You could see a sign for I-25 when you turned around. I-25 is the only north-to-sounth interstate in Colorado and is easy to find on the map. CO-14 also runs through the sparsely populated eastern Colorado and is quite easy to find on the map. Many players found CO-14. Our intersection was right next to a railway track. Railway tracks might me easier to find on the map than road names. 5 perfect scores. :-)

2023.05.30 21:19 BuleRendang Suggestions on peaceful & less touristy spots to work on physical and mental health

Hi friends,
I'll likely be traveling to Southeast Asia in August & September and would love to hear some suggestions for my trip I'm in the early stages of planning. One of those months i'll be in Indonesia, visiting friends and traveling rural Sumatra. The other month I want to park myself in one or two places and work on my fitness, both mental and physical. Leaning towards Thailand, possibly Laos, for that.
I'm in my late 30's with extensive travel experience and I'd really like to see a side of Thailand a bit less touristy. Truly love Thai culture, food and people. I last visited Thailand 10ish years ago for a few months....Wonderful experience all around. Visited many of the well known spots but really loved the places bit more off the tourist trail such as Khon Kaen and Chiang Khan among other spots in the north I can't seem to recall. I don't believe I've been to Issan province, or maybe just touched it, but I'm greatly interested in exploring that.
I started boxing as a workout here in America recently and enjoy the workouts so much I would be interested in spending my days training at a Muay Thai Boxing gym, which i know is popular with tourists. Only interested in fitness and dropping some weight, not actually fighting. Working on meditation and healthy eating is also something I really want to focus on.
I went to Pai a decade ago and while I loved it i'm reading its way too crowded now and August would be a brutal month weather wise. Still very open to it though. Things change so fast and haven't been there in 10 years I know Thailand is probably a different world now. If anyone could throw a suggestion or two my way i'd really appreciate it as I start my research.
Few other things i'm looking for, though i'm realistic I won't hit them all:
-- Small city or town or village welcoming for white American who does not speak Thai to live in. Happy and comfortable being the only foreigner around if need be and will certainly be very respectful to local customs. The size of Pai about 10 years ago was about perfect for me, haha. -- A good boxing gym / fitness club / meditation retreat to park myself at for a few weeks to a month -- Not interested in partying, i'm sure i'll have a few fun nights in Bangkok
--Not a beach person at all. LOVE northern Thailand more than south, but open to all suggestions. Colder weather & mountains are for me all the way.
--Beyond Thailand, would love to hear any suggestions you might have for the region in general, Laos in particular. Also visited 10 years ago and loved the country.
Appreciate any helpful suggestions!
Khob Khun 😊
