PHX Gas Prices
2023.06.07 20:32 Dominus_Max PHX Gas Prices
This past weekend I traveled to Williams, AZ via Flagstaff and home through Oak Creek Canyon.
In Phoenix, I paid $4.59/gallon In Flagstaff, I paid $4.09/gallon In Williams, I paid $3.59/gallon In Oak Creek, I paid $3.59/gallon
It is absolutely RIDICULOUS that the Phoenix Metro should have the highest prices in the state- regardless of special blends. It is hard to come up with ANY good reason why WILLIAMS or the Village Oak Creek should be $1.00 LESS than Phoenix!
Perhaps it is time for customers to show displeasure towards the gas retailers. I know we all have to buy gas - and even if people were to refuse to buy gas on a specific day, that gas would just be purchased a day later, but maybe, just maybe, people could be convinced to refuse to make purchases - soda, coffee, snacks, etc on a specific day - a gas/convenience store strike so to speak.
Any thoughts?

2023.06.07 20:25 Infinite_Pineapple50 Noob thread: what's wrong with my first shots?
| Disclaimer: I just started my home barista hobbies, so my questions may sound trivial. Also, I didn't receive yet my full equipment so I had to cope with what I had at home. I dialed some sample shots with this fresh (roast date: 16 May) medium roast, ground 1 hour ago on the shopping mall grinder (I still have to receive mine) at espresso settings (on a scale from filter to Turkish). I put 17/18g (kitchen scale, not particularly precise) in this 18g VST basket in a bottomless filter. The machine is a Bellezza Bellona, set to 93 C and the pressure goes between 9 and 10 bars. Every time I had this mess, and I can't understand what can be the reason. May be the grind too coarse? I dialed a shot with some old pre ground moka coffee and instead it chocked. submitted by Infinite_Pineapple50 to espresso [link] [comments] |
2023.06.07 20:17 jfed2000 Found at Marshalls, $18 for 120 capsules!
Found these at Marshalls without a price. They quickly priced them for me at $9 each, bringing the price to $0.15/capsule (USD). Very excited!

2023.06.07 19:49 Sephyrias Can Izzet/Jeskai Aggro beat the Triome decks?
Talking about these:
Countermagic will be met by Force of Negation and/or T3feri. If it is not a cascade deck then they'll have Spell Pierce and/or Veil of Summer too. Small aggro beaters (Channeler, Ragavan, Swiftspear, Iconoclast, etc.) get eaten by Endurance, Fury and Wrenn&Six. Graveyard synergy gets shut down by Endurance.
I tried Void Mirror, Torpor Orb, Hushbringer and Lavinia in the sideboard to have something against all the variants, but those get exiled by Leyline Binding for 1 mana or bounced by T3feri (or removed by bolt, ending, etc.), after which they can freely drop their win conditions and it is GG again.
Blood Moon
can win the matchup, but jeskai aggro can't play it and it costs 3 mana while being prone to getting countered by Force of Negation, Spell Pierce, etc, or simply blown up by Boseiju. Sometimes they also don't care about Blood Moon due to being able to cast Violent Outburst in response, fetch for basics, or generate treasures with the Fable goblin. Some still play
Abundant Growth too and Blood Moon does nothing against that.
Jeskai aggro variants might just be inferior to
Emry Breach combo. Izzet could have a chance due to Blood Moon, but
Temur Cascade Footfalls can play that too, maybe it is the better Murktide deck nowadays?

2023.06.07 19:31 Complex_Medium_7866 Partner's birthday- need advice/ideas please!!
This weekend I'm (19- nonbinary) going down to visit my partner (turning 20- M) for his birthday, because I'm going to be out of town on the actual day of. I can't drive, I'm in the process of learning from scratch but don't have a license right now, but a family member of mine is visiting someone nearby so it works out. So far our plans include dinner+a horror movie at the theater (his idea) and I had the idea to bring art stuff to either paint at the cemetery we hang out at a lot, or a public historical site he's been wanting to take me to. I really want to do more for him, but I don't want to make him drive for this, and he's been having to do a lot of manual labor this summer so I don't want to make him do something like hiking because I know he'll be sore/tired. I'm playing with the idea of doing something like ordering breakfast in for him, but I just want to do a good job and make the weekend fun.
The town itself isn't very walkable. It's doable, to an extent, but walking along roads isn't something he's a fan of. The town itself isn't overwhelmingly small, it's a college town, but the things to do are a bit limited, especially while the semester isn't in full swing. Another idea is to walk around Main Street and check out the shops- there was one we visited and haven't gone back to that we've been meaning to, and I'm not sure what the coffee shop hours are but that could be fun.
I'm leaving friday so if anyone has any ideas it would be really appreciated. I want to do a good job, this is my first time dealing with something like this, we're partners, but not dating, if that makes sense but it still feels like I need to step up my game for this, and I'm really nervous about making it go well.

2023.06.07 19:31 scientist_jelly_cat If TWICE were making a new food-related song, what would the title be?
Personally I'm voting for either a "Bibimbap" or "Ramen" song in the future, since all members have eaten and praise it quite often!
Please feel free to add any details, reasoning, and/or context to your choice(s)
Here's a list of adjectives, dishes, and delicacies that TWICE have already used as song titles, up to 2023. 😆
- Alcohol-Free
- Bitter Sweet
- Cactus (remove thorns)
- Candy
- Candy Boy (adjective, no cannibalism)
- Candy Pop
- Espresso
- Four-Leaf Clover (is edible)
- Doughnut
- Hot (like my food)
- Jelly Jelly
- Melting / Ice Cream
- Oxygen
- Pink Lemonade
- Scorpion (remove stinger, roast well before serving)
- Strawberry
- Strawberry Moon
- Sweet Summer Day (has sweet in the name, so kinda related)
- Turtle (illegal in some parts of the world 💀)

2023.06.07 19:08 TheRealClive Hitter Chapter Three: Tiffany and The Ax - Writer Martin Blank
“There were rules, Mafia codes you had to go by. But the code is ridiculous. It's a code among sociopaths.” David Chase (creator: The Sopranos)
Chapter Three: Tiffany and The Ax - ANTIBES, FRANCE. Jude sat at a small table outside La Forge Restaurant on Jacques Audiberti Place. The petite square was bustling with late morning activity. He sipped an espresso and paged through his USA Today. A group of teenagers passed loudly through the square on their way to the beach from a hostel. Tiffany and her girlfriend were with the group. He had been watching her for about a week now but the right opportunity hadn't presented itself.
He told himself he wasn't delaying the operation because he was on an unlimited expense account and his target was spending the summer on the Cote d'Azur. He supposed milking a client that way would be unethical. The thought amused him. It really
was because he hadn't found the perfect chance to kill her. Mostly. Mostly that was it.
He noted that the Tour de France was passing through the area and decided to find a place to watch the event. And then there was the Musee Picasso on Place Mariejol. He didn't want to miss that.
He could kill Tiffany tomorrow. Or the next day.
Finally it was the weather that forced his hand. A fierce summer storm was predicted for that week. Such an event would make Tiffany's movements unpredictable. She might stay in and weather it, as he would then have to do as well or she might catch the train to a fairer climate. He had no doubt he could find her again, but uncertainties made him uncomfortable. The night before the storm rolled in, he got his perfect opportunity.
It was late, past midnight. Jude had been watching Tiffany as she snuck away with a young man, an Australian, Jude guessed. They had been drinking on the beach, the Plage Gravette, having snuck on after it closed. The location couldn't have been more perfect if Karsen picked it himself. It was surrounded by walls on three sides and faced the ocean. It wasn't lit other than the light kicking off the surrounding apartment buildings. And with the cloud cover from the oncoming storm, it was all but impossible for anyone in the overlooking apartment buildings to see any activity on the beach that night.
Tiffany's male companion passed out after sex. Tiffany lay there, quite drunk herself. Finally she got up and staggered towards the road. Jude watched from the shadows as she came right towards him. She passed one bum, fast asleep by the wall and entered into the tunnel leading from the beach. She never saw Karsen.
She cried out for a split second. But Jude covered her mouth with gloved hands and snapped her neck. He carried her body off the beach, out the gate to the Quai Henri Rambaud and onto a waiting boat.
While Jude piloted the motorboat out into the ocean, into the face of the storm, his partner prepared the body. When they reached far enough out, they dumped the pretty, blonde teenager over the side. And started a media firestorm.
Tiffany Teague was an ordinary American girl. She was from the state of New York. Wynantskill, specifically. A hamlet outside of Albany. She was a junior in college, attending Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA, an all women's school. She liked Justin Timberlake and Fallout Boy and thought that Paul Walker was the perfect man.
Edward and Maggie Teague weren't rich, or even well off after several failed business ventures, but they doted on their kids and helped Tiffany save for a summer of backpacking in Europe. They were proud of the fact that while most of Tiffany's friends were sitting around getting drunk and pregnant, Tiffany would be learning about the world. They probably wouldn't have been pleased with how she spent her last hours alive.
When she vanished, they began a tireless campaign. Like all parents faced with an unsolvable mystery of this type, they played nightmare scenarios over and over in their heads. Was it worse that she was dead? Or was it worse that she was alive, perhaps living in some horrible situation? Which to hope for? How to pray?
The case caught the attention of Nancy Grace and Greta Van Susteren. The resulting media pressure caused France, the United States and Australia (the home of the poor drunken boy last known to be with her) to redouble their efforts on Tiffany's behalf.
But there was no trace to be found. No clue as to her disappearance. The Australian boy, somewhat of a loathsome cad, found himself now reviled as a murderer. For the life of him, he could barely remember their last hours together. He didn't even remember having slept with her on the beach. A fact attested to by the drunk who watched it, but his testimony was highly questionable.
No one would ever have tied it to a case in Federal Court from almost two years before. The prosecution of a small time thug named Paulie Azeglio. In 2002 Paulie was convicted under U.S.C. § 2315 Sale or receipt of stolen goods, securities or monies. He was sentenced to three years, but died in prison in 2003. His death was retribution in an ongoing organized crime power struggle involving his infamous father, Frank “The Ax” Azeglio. Edward Teague was a juror in the trial that convicted Paulie.
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK. Two and half months before Tiffany's death, Jude was in the living room of his home in Sherman Oaks. He had his laptop hooked up to his 70 inch big screen television and he was sitting on the couch watching porn when his cell phone rang with an unknown number. Normally he wouldn't have answered it, but the area code was from New York. And he got a prickly feeling at the back of his neck. So he managed to get his hands clean in time to answer the call before it kicked over to voice mail.
The speaker was abrupt. A limousine would be arriving at his home in forty-five minutes. It would take him to the airport. He would fly to New York, JFK International and be picked up from there for a meeting. After the meeting he would be taken to a hotel before being flown back to L.A. the following afternoon. The option to refuse this was not offered. And Jude, recognizing the voice, knowing the caller by reputation, never once thought of turning it down. He got up, showered and packed an over-night bag. The limo was right on time.
When he arrived in New York, it was almost 4 AM. Another limo was waiting for him and the ride from the airport took forty-five minutes. Jude slept for most of it as it was past one in the morning, California time. He woke from the sound of the limo coming to a stop. The driver opened the door and Jude stepped out, stretching as he did so.
He was in a warehouse complex. Dull orange lights hung from the corners of buildings in halos of mist. The ocean was nearby, though he couldn't see it. He could smell the salt in the air and hear the not-so-distant sound of compressed surf crunching against a wharf. This was an old complex. Rust rotted through the walls of the buildings. Some were missing whole panels.
The limo drove away, leaving him alone. For a moment, there was a tightness in his chest. Anxiety. He didn’t have a gun. He wasn’t armed but that was unavoidable. He pushed it away. Calculated the odds. It was unlikely they brought him this far just to kill him. Unlikely, but not impossible. He pushed the thought away again. You never knew for sure when dealing with the Mafia. Before anxiety consumed him, a door opened. Twenty feet away, a large man wearing a suit stepped out of the darkness and motioned him to come forward. Karsen did not feel better.
The man searched Karsen, patting him down. Karsen didn't object. When the man was satisfied, he waved Jude through the doorway. Neither of them spoke.
Karsen moved cautiously into the old warehouse. It was a huge empty place. Dim light filtered in from broken windows high above. Deep shadows hung like curtains through cavernous space. Karsen lit a cigarette and walked, kept walking towards the center of the warehouse. Finally, seeing no objective and hearing the door crash closed behind him, he stopped. In a dim pool of light drizzling in from a broken window high above.
Footsteps echoed out of the shadows. Coming towards him. Gradually a man emerged from the gloom. He stopped a few feet from Jude. The man was in his late fifties or early sixties. Obviously Italian. His hair was steel grey and his manner was one that assumed authority.
Jude stared at Frank “The Ax” Azeglio. He took a drag on his cigarette and exhaled softly. Frank spoke.
“Mr. Karsen.”
“Yeah.”
“Put out your cigarette. My sinuses...”
“Oh. Sorry.” Jude dropped the smoke and crushed it with his shoe.
“Thank you. And thank you for coming.”
“Sure.”
“I have a job for you, Mr. Karsen.” With gloved hands, Frank the Ax passed a manila envelope to Karsen.
“Family member?” asked Jude.
“No.”
“One of the bosses?”
“Is this a quiz show? Open the fucking envelope.” Azeglio pulled out a bottle of nasal spray and took a squirt up each nostril.
Karsen skimmed the information and looked at the photo. A photo of Tiffany Teague. He glanced back up at Azeglio, curiosity on his face.
“This is a teenage girl.”
Frank stared at him. Silent. Jude shot him a small, knowing smile.
“Sure. I'll do it. Any special requests?”
“Make it quick and painless. Make the body disappear.”
Jude nodded and slid the papers back into the envelope. Something was weird about this. There was a reason Frank called him in the middle of the night, flew him across the country. There was a reason they were meeting in this warehouse instead of some back room of a restaurant. Something about this contract was different.
“A mil,” said Jude. “Plus expenses.”
The Ax didn't hesitate or negotiate. “I'll have it wired to your account. Bill me the expenses through our usual contact.”
“You got a deal.” Karsen handed the envelope back to Frank.
“Don't you need this information?”
“I have what I need memorized. I don’t want to carry that file past the TSA.” Karsen turned and walked towards the door. He hadn't gone more than a couple feet before Frank spoke again.
“Mr. Karsen.”
Jude stopped and turned to the mob boss.
“I want you to know why.”
Jude shifted uncomfortably. He was itching to go and he felt the nascent urge to urinate. But it was more than that. Somehow he felt that the longer he stayed, the more...
culpable he was. It was an irrational, random thought, but it nagged him. It put an urgency on him.
“That's not necessary. I prefer not to know. To know as little as possible.”
“But I
want you to know.”
Jude stood there quietly. He desperately wanted a smoke. Frank “The Ax” began to speak.
“My son Paul. Francis Paul Azeglio Jr, you know I wanted a better life for him. Wanted him to go to college, maybe join the military. I didn't want this life for him. This life that you and I lead. I wanted better for my children. Wasn't that the point of fighting my way out of the gutters and back alleys of Brooklyn? And I did it. I gave my children everything. Paul was raised in luxury. He got an excellent education at a private school. He had all the opportunities of privilege at his fingertips. Opportunities I bled and made others bleed to win for him.
“All I wanted was for him to be a doctor or a stockbroker or even a musician. To have a family and give me grandchildren. I wanted my son to escape this life that I was forced into by simple economics and...certain skills I had that others lacked. You understand me, Mr. Karsen?”
“I don't have children,” Jude regretted it the moment it came out his mouth. Frank's expression clouded and his brow furrowed.
“But I get your point,” Karsen added quickly.
“Every father worth a damn wants to protect his children. Of course, to my son, it seemed like I thought he wasn't up to it, like I thought he wasn't tough enough for the job....” Frank trailed off, staring up at the shattered windows with their rusted frames. “Which, of course, was the absolute truth.”
They were silent. Jude's need to piss was growing stronger. But there was no way to leave this conversation. Not until Frank the Ax was done. Was this a confession wondered Jude? Karsen suspected Frank was probably a Catholic. How did he suddenly become this man's priest?
Frank finally broke the silence. “Did your father respect you?”
Ahh jeez, thought Jude, “I broke his jaw when I was sixteen. After that it didn't matter.”
“Bullshit. It always matters. I never even knew my father and I still wonder what he would've thought of me, to this very day. But you took respect from your dad the day you cracked his face.”
“I don't know. I didn't see him much after that.”
“Right...right,” Frank sighed. “Paul wanted my respect. He wanted to impress me, not just as a son or even as a man, he wanted my respect as a gangster. He coulda done anything and I woulda been proud of him. But he wanted to be good, be great at what
I was great at. You understand?”
“I think so.”
“This kid...this right side of the tracks, white kid who never had to fight in his life, decided he was smart enough to do a major job, like it was some movie or one of these cable TV shows. He stole a container full of flatscreen TVs and tried to fence. He wanted to bring down a big score, just like the stories he'd heard his old man tell the boys, when he shoulda been in bed at night...”
“He got caught.”
“Of course he got caught. Grand Theft Auto was a
video game to him. To me, it was a
way of life.” Frank muttered something under his breath that Jude didn't make out.
“What?”
“Nothing. Because Paul went across state lines it was a Federal Crime. Ahh, that shouldn't have mattered. I got the best lawyers, greased the skids with the Judge and the prosecutor. They offered a decent deal, but not enough. I didn't want my boy to do a day inside. So it went to trial. Still shouldn't have been a problem. I hired one of those fancy jury consultant companies and wired the jury...but one slipped by. One man named Edward Teague. Real Dudley do-right. From my man inside, he tells me this Edward Teague bullied this jury, harassed this jury, and wore them out by dragging it on for days so they finally gave in and convicted. They didn't want to convict. But this guy...this guy...he was the foreman and he all but forced them...”
Something didn't ring true about this story, but Jude wasn't about to question a man nicked-named 'The Ax'.
“Tough break.”
“So my sweetheart baby boy, my only son...went to the Federal Pen. God, the way he acted, like it was a badge of honor, like I should be proud of him. I told him-”
Frank stopped, his voice catching as the memory overcame him. He composed himself and wiped a tear, passing it off as rubbing the bridge of his nose.
“I told him. Keep your head down. Do your time quietly and he'd be taken care of. Mob guys can be very safe inside. But he... he still had something to prove...”
Another tear slid silently down the mafia don's cheeks. Jude wanted desperately to leave. But he felt he had to say
something at this point.
“He's dead.”
“I got the guys that did him. I got them already.” Frank wiped the tears from his face and his manner changed. As he spoke, a slow rage filled his voice. “Now. Now I want Edward Teague. Juror number nine. I want him to suffer like I do. To live without his precious child, his daughter that he dotes on, that he loves. I want to rip her out of his arms.” His voice seethed with hatred.
“I want him to hurt...you understand me? I want him to have this
hole in his heart. This ache, this, this
horrible,
empty,
loss torn into his soul.”
Frank stepped closer to Jude, until he was so near Jude could smell the faint medicinal scent of nasal spray on the man's breath. He was so uncomfortable that he wanted to burst out laughing, but knew that would mean his instant death. Not figuratively. Frank, in this moment, would kill him for disrespect. It was the thought of his own face being bludgeoned that drove the amusement away.
Brutality filled Azeglio's voice, “I want to take his daughter from him and I want him to live the rest of his life
never knowing what happened to her.”
The cold hatred that burned out of the man was awful in its intensity. His eyes cut into Jude's with the horror of emptiness. Without another word, Frank turned and walked back into the darkness.

2023.06.07 19:01 ZHODY ZHODY's 3rd Reverse-Monolocke Master Run, Part 0: Rules and expectations
Welcome back to my attempt to become a Reverse-Monolocke Master! After successfully getting through the boring
Dragon Reverse Monolocke and the risky
Fire Reverse Monolocke, it’s time to try a Reverse Monolocke of a “safer” type. “Safer” meaning that no Gym Leaders or Elite Five members will specialize in the type all my Pokemon will be weak to.
The game chosen is one of my favorites, HeartGold... Except the ‘HeartGold’ I’ll be playing has been given the
Viet Crystal treatment! Along with the expected wacky text edits, the hakesmith removed Trade Evolutions, which will help me with quite a few of my Pokemon options.
As for the type everyone will be weak to? Well, that’ll be
Ground! Yes, all my Pokemon live in fear of the Earth itself, heh. Pryce’s Piloswine might trip me up, but that won’t matter with powerful Fire-types on my side again.
These are my rules (featuring a new level cap rule): * Base nuzlocke rules. Dead is dead but blackout is not a game over. Battle type is SHIFT. (SET annoyed me too much.) * Only Pokémon weak to a certain type are allowed. Pokémon who lack the weakness, but gain it on evolution are allowed. Pokémon who lose the weakness on evolution are prohibited from evolving. Abilities that make a Pokemon immune to the Weakness Type are not allowed. * Temporary in-battle type changes that make a Pokemon immune to the Weakness Type are allowed, but similar forms that stick outside of battle are not. The type that a Pokemon is in outside of battle is what you should base viability on. (ex. Castform in a Fighting Rev-Mono can change to Sun Form in battle, but Castform’s Sun Form existing does not mean you can catch it in a Water Rev-Mono.) * One chance of catching per route (first encounter), but only valid Pokémon count as encounters. I can check Bulbapedia’s HeartGold walkthrough to see whether or not a valid type appears on a route. * Kantonian Dupes Clause: Dupes Clause is only present if a new Pokemon appears in that area. If not, you're getting a duplicate. * Level cap is on par with the highest and lowest leveled Pokémon of the next ‘boss battle’ (gym leaders, rival battles, etc). Only one of my Pokemon may match the level of the boss’ Ace, the rest must be the same level as their weakest. * Since Johto has many 2-Pokemon Gym Leaders, the lowest level for such opponents will be lowered by one. (ex. Whitney’s lv. 19 and 17 becomes lv. 19 and 16) That also applies to the one ‘boss battle’ that has more than 2 Pokemon that are all the same level. * Shiny clause: Any shiny that is weak to the chosen type may be caught and used no matter what. A shiny that does not have the weakness cannot be used but may still be caught and exchanged for either reviving a dead Pokémon or revisiting a previous route for another catch (all randomly determined). Oh, and a certain static shiny doesn’t count; Kill It. * In-game trades between two valid Pokemon are free game. In-game trades where the requested Pokémon is non-valid but the given Pokémon is valid may also be accepted, but I must “pay” a sum of money equal to the given Pokémon’s base stat total * its base xp yield. This will make sure the best Pokémon don’t come cheap. Examples: Bulbasaur 20K, Venusaur 123K, Magikarp 8K, Gyarados 102K, Dratini 18K, Dragonite 162K, Mewtwo 208K, Chansey 177K, Blissey 328K. It should be pretty rare to find a trade like this and pretty challenging to get 100K together to spend on it, so I think it’s fairly balanced. * Token rule, needed for rare types: For every route where I have to forfeit a catch because no valid type appears there, I get a token. 3 tokens can be spent to revisit a route where I know I can catch something. I can also use 2 tokens to catch in another subsection of a location (e.g. if Mount Moon has valid types on two floors and I missed a catch on Route 1 and 2, I can catch on two floors in Mount Moon). * The run is considered complete after getting in the Hall of Fame. (Sorry Red fans, I’ve had enough Open World Pokemon from Violet.)
Starter Once again there’s only 1 Starter weak to Ground, so Joshi chose Rided the Cyndaquil (female, PapeBrave). Since this is a hack of Japanese HeartGold, names are limited to 5 characters. Joshi’s name comes from a Japanese word for girl/woman. It can also mean Miss, so Oak saying “Ms.Joshi?” after I put in her name made me laugh. As for the nickname theme, I figured since the names of Pokemon Species have been made unrecognizable thanks to the layers of translation they’ve been put through, I’ll just nickname them the new names and change it up for duplicates. (Which I’m sure I’ll have plenty of again. Remember those six boxed Gloom in the last run?)
Back to the game, Joshi went to get Elm’s Egg from ELF GRANDFATHEMr. Pokemon before running into a thief with a stolen Totodile in Cherrygrove City. Rided was lv. 7 from fighting Pokemon along the way, but Smokescreen didn’t make Totodile miss at all. Instead it winded up being a Spi-N/Leer fight until Rided’s next Prize/Tackle hit Totodile to yellow. For some reason the thief kept going with Leer the next turn, so the next Tackle knocked out ‘his’ gator.
Embarrassed by his defeat, the thief dropped his ID in his escape and Joshi picked it up briefly to see his name is Danji, a japanese word for boy. After diligently reporting him to the police, WUSIJI/Elm told Joshi she should take on the League Challenge, starting the run! ...But first I needed to make sure Joshi’s Mom wouldn’t take her money since I have two trades I’ll need to save for! (Though it looks like only one will be worth it.)
Strengths and weaknesses If you’ve read my Weakness Type document you would know that the types I can use are Fire-, Poison-, Electric-, Rock-, and Steel-types. Pokemon with one of those types and a sub-type of Grass, Bug, or Flying aren’t weak to Ground and therefore are banned. And like the rules say, the Levitate ability means Gastly and Koffing are banned; No Ghost-type for me :(
Aside from everyone being weak to Ground, two of those types are weak to Water, so I hope I get some good Electric-types. I’ll still have access to a bunch of status effects like last time, but I don’t think anyone will be able to induce Sleep? Many of my options are quite strong and have a pretty varied learnsets, too. Thankfully I shouldn’t have a rough start this time, since I should quickly get three of the five types.
Given that this is vanilla HeartGold, there’s no new Steel-type options compared to the last run, but there’s no reason to save their evolutions this time either. (Though some won’t be able to evolve due to unfortunate requirements for trade evolutions.) Unlike the last run, I don’t think I have any terrible choices, but Magcargo and Flareon aren’t exactly the best either.
Opportunities and expectations Here’s a quick overview of all the Pokemon I can catch:
Ekans/Arbok: I won’t have a third Arbok die while using Dig!
Nidoran♀/Nidorina/Nidoqueen+Nidoran♂/Nidorino/Nidoking: Incredibly strong, but I might need to put off their final evolutions for Poison Fang/Jab.
Growlithe/Arcanine: A very good boy. We’ll need that Bite for Morty.
Tentacool/Tentacruel: Toxic Spikes, anyone?
Geodude/GraveleGolem: Might just solo Falkner with one of these.
Ponyta/Rapidash: Probably won’t see much use since they only appear on the routes leading to the League.
Magnemite/Magneton/Magnezone: Hey, they have Steel-type moves in this game!
GrimeMuk: Learns a surprising amount of varied TMs.
Onix/Steelix: Sadly I need the Metal Coat to evolve Onix, which is post-game, but I know Onix is dependable from the last run.
Voltorb/Electrode: Incredibly speedy, but they’ll need to learn Thunderbolt via TM.
Rhyhorn/Rhydon/Rhyperior: Rock Wrecker would be nice, but Protector is post-game.
Magby/MagmaMagmortar: Just as good as the Cyndaquil Line, but Magmarizer is also post-game.
Eevee/Jolteon: has a nice variety of moves thanks to Pin Missile and Double Kick.
OR Flareon: Not worth it.
Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion: A wonderful Fire-type starter. I’ll only be getting one, though.
Chinchou/Lanturn: I love these guys! Signal Beam could be helpful.
Mareep/Flaaffy/Ampharos: Hopefully they’ll be just as great when they’re not a Dragon.
Bonsly/Sudowoodo: Their Fighting-type moves will help, but once again, I’ll only get one.
Slugma/Magcargo: Slow, with a lot of weaknesses.
Corsola: I love Corsola, but I’m not sure if it’s good for Nuzlockes.
LarvitaPupitaTyranitar: My only Dark-type option.
As for Raikou and Entei: I’d be lucky to find them at all; I’m bad at tracking down Roaming Legendaries. And they’ll have to show up in a route without an encounter, too.
Vulpix/Ninetales: SoulSilver Exclusives, sadly.
Even with a ton of Pokemon being locked behind the Post-Game, I have a good amount of Pokemon I can use!
Thinking about my expectations for the run... Well, when I finally wrote up all the level caps I realized everything was really tight, especially Falkner and his lv. 13 & 9 combo. I already wrote how I might deal with that above, though.
Also, as I’m writing this I realize I don’t have a good answer for Whitney or Chuck’s Primeape, but I’m sure I can just power through them? Hope one of my three(?) Geodudes is a girl, though.
Well, I’ll be back with Update 1 soon, seeya!

2023.06.07 18:58 da_17co Do Sweet Water Processed decafs have a similar taste profile?
I really enjoy espresso, but there is so much caffeine I can have, so I have been trying out different decaf options.
After trying some SWP coffee (Linea Big Calm, Sweet Maria's Ethiopia Limu Boter Farm SWP Decaf roasted to City+, Sweet Maria's Peru San Ignacio SWP Decaf roasted to Full City), the flavor profile all seems very similar in a way. A bit nutty and chocolatey, mild acidity, not floral at all, and a with a very particular aftertaste. It's not bad, it just seems much more homogenous than non-decaf coffee.
Anyone else noticed this? Or should I just try different SWP options, or roast levels?
Edit: meant to say Swiss Water Process in the title, can't change that.

2023.06.07 18:50 Justwonderinif Post Conviction II
< Friday, May 28, 2010 - Adnan could have filed for post conviction relief at any time during these past seven years, and did not have to wait ten years. Rabia lied about that.
- According to Rabia, Justin Brown has decided not to subpoena Asia, given her reaction when approached by the PI.
- Attoney Justin Brown files for Post Conviction Relief citing "Ineffective Assistance of Counsel" aka "IAC." This filing contains the first appearance of Asia's letters in the record.
- Syed asks for new trial, claiming trial counsel (Gutierrez), and appellate counsel (Warren Brown) were ineffective:
- 1) Gutierrez failed to establish a timeline disproving State's case
- 2) Gutierrez failed to investigate alibi witness (Asia)
- 3) Gutierrez failed to move for new trial based on Asia's statements
- 4) Gutierrez failed to cross-examine Debbie
- 5) Gutierrez failed to pursue a plea offer
- 6) Gutierrez failed to request a change of venue
- 7) Gutierrez failed to investigate Jay
- 8) In Adnan's appeal brief, Warren Brown failed to include the fact that Waranowitz strayed from his area of expertise, at trial.
- 9) Cumulative Ineffective Assistance of counsel.
- [Four years later, on October 18, and November 18, 2014, Rabia lied to the readers of her blog, writing that Adnan was forced to wait ten years to file for post conviction relief. The truth is the defendant has ten years from the date of conviction to file, but cannot file AFTER 10 years. In her book, Rabia wrote that she and Adnan knew all along that Adnan could file for post conviction relief the day after his appeal was denied in 2003]
- [Rabia also lies about how a 2013 google search led her to Sarah Koenig's coverage of Gutierrez' disbarment. Adnan's May 2010 filing for post conviction relief discusses Sarah Koenig's reporting. This is how Rabia would have become aware of Koenig.]
Sunday, June 27, 2010 - Adnan has been at Cumberland / Supermax for one year.
June 27, 2010 - Justin Brown files a Supplement to Adnan's May 28, 2010 Petition for Post Conviction Relief. Cites a 10th point for PCR.
- 10) Sentencing counsel, Charles Dorsey, failed to request that the motion for sentence modification be held in abeyance.
After Syed fired Gutierrez, he was represented by a public defender, Charles Dorsey. Mr. Dorsey filed a Motion for Modification of Sentence. Mr. Syed had just received a sentence of life plus 30 years. Rather than ask the Court to hold that motion in advance and raise it after, up to ten years, which is the common practice when a defendant receives a very long sentence, Mr. Dorsey didn't do that. The court ended up ruling on the Motion for Modification a couple of days after it was filed. And, of course, the motion was denied. So that's our third, ineffective assistance of counsel claim. That he should have handled that differently. - The supplement also included further points Justin Brown wanted to make about Gutierrez's failure to ask for a pleas deal.
No copies of this supplement exist on the internet. July 27, 2010 Summer 2010 - According to transcripts, Justin Brown attempts to subpoena Asia. (This could be the reason for one of the postponements.)
Friday, October 15, 2010 - Hae Min Lee 30th birthday
November 29, 2010 Friday, December 20, 2010 - PCR Hearing scheduled, but postponed. First postponement.

Saturday, May 21, 2011 June, 2011 Thursday, June 9, 2011 Monday, August 8, 2011 - PCR Hearing scheduled, but postponed. Second postponement.
Thursday, September 29, 2011 - Adnan moves to disqualify Kathleen Murphy as counsel for the state.
Saturday, October 15, 2011 - Hae Min Lee 31st birthday
Thursday, October 20, 2011 - PCR Hearing scheduled, but postponed. Third postponement.
November 27, 2011 January, 2012 - Rabia founds the "Safe Nation Collaborative." Unfortunately, law enforcement has never heard of it.
Monday, February 6, 2012 - PCR Hearing scheduled, but postponed. Fourth postponement.
- Adnan's motion to disqualify Kathleen Murphy is denied.
- Murphy says she first spoke to Urick about testifying at the PCR in February 2012
Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - PCR Hearing scheduled, but postponed. Fifth postponement.
February 28, 2012 - Adnan has been in jail/prison for thirteen years.

Monday, May 21, 2012 Friday, June 15, 2012 July 13, 2012 Thursday, July 26, 2012 - PCR Hearing scheduled, but postponed. Sixth postponement.
Thursday, August 9, 2012 - PCR Hearing scheduled, but postponed. Seventh postponement.
Thursday, October 11, 2012 - Transcripts: for Evidentiary Hearing in Post-Conviction Appeal.
- (Shamim's and Rabia's testimony filed and paid for by stop_saying_right after Rabia refused to upload anything but Urick's testimony.)
- Justin Brown opens. He will focus on (3) issues.
- Gutierrez's failure to investigate Asia.
- Gutierrez's failure to pursue a plea offer.
- Dorsey's failure to request that the motion for sentence modification be held in abeyance.
- Kevin Urick testifies:
- Gutierrez never approached him seeking a plea bargain. If he had been approached, there would have been a possibility of a negotiated disposition.
- Asia called him because she was afraid of being forced to testify. She had already made up her mind not to testify when she called Urick. And only called him looking for a way to get out of it.
- Shamim Rahman testifies: Posted and discussed on reddit thanks to SSR.
- Rabia Chaudry testifies: Posted and discussed on reddit thanks to SSR.
Monday, October 15, 2012 - Hae Min Lee 32nd birthday
Thursday, October 25, 2012 - Transcripts: for Evidentiary Hearing in Post-Conviction Appeal.
- (Adnan and Meady's testimony filed and paid for by stop_saying_right after Rabia refused to upload anything but Urick's testimony.)
- Adnan Syed testifies. Posted and discussed on reddit thanks for SSR.
- Adnan testifies that he told Dorsey about Asia, but there is no mention of Asia's letters, or giving Dorsey Asia's letters.
- Margaret Meady testifies
- Justin Brown fails to call Andrew Davis, the Private Investigator hired by Flohr and Colbert to investigate the library/track alibi.
February 28, 2013 - Adnan has been in jail/prison for fourteen years.
Tuesday, May 21, 2013 June 11, 2013 August, 2013 - It has been ten months since the October 2012 Hearing for Post Conviction Relief.
- Rabia says she watched the documentary "West of Memphis," looked up reporters who covered Gutierrez's disbarment, and found Sarah Koenig. Rabia hoped that media attention could influence Welch's pending decision, ten months after the hearing.
- Rabia is lying when she talks about this 2013 google search that led her to Sarah Koenig's coverage of Gutierrez' disbarment for the Baltimore Sun. The truth is that Adnan's May 2010 filing for post conviction relief discusses Sarah Koenig and the coverage in the Baltimore Sun. This is how Rabia would have become aware of Koneig. Not via an August 2013 random google search, after watching West of Memphis.
August 12, 2013 - Rabia sends a letter to Sarah Koenig, asking her to take a look at the case. Rabia claims the police and prosecutors knew Adnan was innocent, and Gutierrez threw the case for money. Note here that leading up to Serial, Rabia was convinced that Jay did it, and would have pitched the story, with the carrot of exposing Jay.
August 29, 2013 - Rabia hastily sets up an LLC in Maryland, even though she is not licensed to practice law there.
- In anticipation of meeting with Sarah Koenig, Rabia sets up an office at Security Plaza, across the street from Woodlawn High School.
- Rabia wants Sarah to think this has always been her office, and that this is where she works. The truth is Rabia lives and works in DC.
August 30, 2013 Late September, 2013 - Adnan receives a letter from Justin Brown saying that a reporter named Sarah Koenig wanted to do an interview. Justin wrote that he didn't think Sarah would waste time on a story if she didn't believe Adnan was innocent. Adnan receives the first letter from Sarah Koenig, a few days later.
Thursday, October 10, 2013 - By now, Adnan has received an introductory letter from Sarah Koenig. She sent him a pad and pencil and stamps. Adnan writes Sarah Koenig a letter about his story and case. Discussion. - [will update link soon]
- Adnan says he wasn't much bigger than Hae.
- Adnan says that students weren't allowed to use the top parking lot. (several WHSers and Krista have said that students used the top parking lot.)
- Adnan describes the route to the Best Buy but neglects to mention the back way.
- Adnan implies that the October 31 break up was the final break up.
- Adnan says that he and Hae would joke about two women calling him on his cell phone at the same time. (Only we know that Adnan's first, ever cell phone was activated the evening of January 12, and there are no calls on the call log that support this story.)
Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - Hae Min Lee 33rd birthday
November, 2013 - Sarah Koenig meets with Chris Flohr to try to get some sense of Adnan's innocence. She tells Flohr that she won't do the story unless Adnan is innocent. Jay as the killer is context for Koenig's work on Serial.
Wednesday, November 13, 2013 Tuesday, November 19, 2013 - Adnan receives a reply letter from Sarah Koenig and puts her on his visitor list. Sarah has decided to report on the story.
Monday, November 25, 2013 - Adnan writes Sarah Koenig to thank her for her letter and let her know she is on his visitor list.
Monday, December 30, 2013 - Post Conviction Decision written by Justice Martin P. Welch.
January 2, 2014 - Andrew Davis in a single car accident, that proves fatal.
Tuesday, January 6, 2014 Mid January, 2014 - Koenig says that her first conversation with Adnan took place right after he received Welch's decision. Link to excerpt from first recorded interview
- Asia returns Sarah Koenig's call. Asia tells Sarah that when she was approached by the Defense PI, she "freaked out" and called Urick, who told her Adnan was guilty, so she dodged the attempt to produce her at the PCR.
- Bilal is notified of disciplinary action regarding his dental license, citing un-necessary treatments and overcharging on multiple occasions in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Monday, January 27, 2014 - Defense files ALA (Applicaton for Leave to Appeal). Adnan's attorneys have to ask for permission to appeal Welch's decision, as there is no guaranteed right to appeal. Defense requests review of two issues:
- 1) Whether Gutierrez was ineffective because she didn't contact/interview Asia
- 2) Whether Gutierrez was ineffective for failing to pursue a plea deal, and telling Adnan she had.
Monday, February 17, 2014 Late February, 2014 - Sarah has met with Deirdre Enright who has agreed to work on Adnan's case.
- Two UVA law school clinics begin work on Adnan's case.

- DNA issue important to law student, Mario
February 28, 2014 - Adnan has been in jail/prison for fifteen years.
Late February/March 2014 - Justin George of the Baltimore Sun begins helping Sarah Koenig, at Rabia's urging. Rabia wanted a local reporter on the story, too.
Spring, 2014 - Approximate: Sarah emails Young Lee
- Approximate: Sarah interviews one of the prosecuting attorneys, Kathleen Murphy, for two hours
- Sarah and Dana Chivas visit Woodlawn, and surrounding areas:
- Krista shows them her scrapbook, lets them read Adnan's letters, and see her photos of Hae.
- Sarah and Dana Chivas do the drive test that Adnan asked Sarah to do. Rabia asks to go along. Sarah says no.
- Sarah shows Rabia the Enehey Report from the MPIA file. Rabia had never seen it. Sarah has redacted the name of the author of the report. She has promised the author she wouldn't reveal her name. Later, Rabia would post the report on her blog, and tell the world the name of the woman who wrote the report.
- Rabia says in her book that this report explained why the detectives focused in on Adnan. She leaves out that the report was not written until Adnan had been in jail for six months.
- Rabia dates the report as August 24, 1999, without mentioning that by then, Adnan had been arrested, indicted, and awaiting trial for months. (Later, Rabia would say that Justin Brown had a copy of the report in the police file, but never showed it to her.
- Adnan sends Sarah Koenig two "Price of Tea" charts, and asks her to hold them until the next time they speak. In October, of 2014, Koenig wrote about the subsequent conversation here.
Wednesday, May 21, 2014 May 31, 2014 June 4, 2014 July 25, 2014 Thursday, August 7, 2014 - Sarah and Julie fly to California, two weeks after the original air date for the podcast. Jay wouldn't talk to them on the phone, so they delayed the podcast, and flew to California to blind-side Jay.
Friday, August 8, 2014 - Sarah and Julie arrive at Jay's house. No one is home. They go away, then come back, for the second time, to walk across his lawn, unannounced.
- Jay said this upset his children.
- During the conversation, Jay refers to himself as a "scoundrel with scruples." Jay wisely doesn't see any upside to letting them record an interview.
Saturday, August 9, 2014 - Sarah Koenig emails Jay, apologizes for blind-siding him and causing upheaval, suggests they have a drink or coffee, and refers to the project she's working on as a documentary, not a podcast. Sarah tells Jay that the upside to doing a taped interview is that he can tell his version. Her message: "I'm going to do a story and talk about you, whether you like it or not."
August 2014 Wednesday, September 10, 2014 - Maryland Court of Special Appeals orders the State of Maryland to file a response to the defense's January 27, 2014 "ALA" (Application for Leave to Appeal). Court asks for State's response to the defense's assertion that Adnan asked for a plea, and Gutierrez failed to seek one. Court sets deadline of November 14, 2014 for State's response
September 2014 Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - Sarah writes to Rabia that the story will be presented in podcast form, over 12 episodes.

2023.06.07 18:50 Key_Outcome_3386 Should I filed a police report for stalking if I haven't been directly threatened?
I had a mutual breakup (initiated by me) with my ex in the summer of 2016. No drama, no unresolved issues, just a clean break. We haven't had any contact since, that includes no indirect contact through mutual friends or any drama between ourselves.
He started dating someone new in 2018, shortly after that this woman began stalking me.
2019: She came into my place of employment 3x. It's a small retail skincare store that I worked at part time. On her first visit she initiated a loud conversation with a regular store customer that she didn't know. She shared her name, the name of my ex and explained that they worked together. She then said, she was an upgrade from his ugly ex and started laughing, then she stared at me for 2-3 minutes from behind a shelf. Before she left she signed up for a free store membership with my manager, she made a joint account with her name and my ex's name and then as she was leaving she said "I'll be back with my man, can't wait". The other 2x she came in the store she just stared at me.
2020-2021: I can't prove this was her, but my instagram account and personal email accounts kept getting locked because someone was trying to log into the accounts. The info given to me indicated that this person was in the same city as my ex's new girlfriend. This occurred over 8x.
In June 2021, I was driving to the grocery store. About 1 minute after leaving my apartment I saw my ex and his girlfriend standing outside of a local cigar shop, I'd say it was a 3 minute walk from my apartment in the city. This was at around 7:30pm. The next morning I walked down to the parking lot to discover that my tail light had been smashed out and my car was scratched. I called the police and the responding officer said it was not another vehicle that hit my car, he said my car was vandalized. He pursued an investigation and tried to obtain footage from the cameras of buildings next to the parking lot but there was no video coverage of the lot. I can't prove it was her, but it's a big coincidence. I was new to the city and didn't know anyone here and have no enemies.
2023: I saw her standing outside of my apartment drinking coffee, she was at the main entrance. My apartment building has commercial businesses in it, such as a taco shop, a bakery and a wedding photography business. I can't prove that she was here to harass me, she was just staring at me as I walked in, all the way from me leaving my car to entering the building.
Last week a mutual friend I share with my ex contacted me to tell me that my ex's now fiance (the one stalking me) flew into a rage when he was at their house, and directed her anger at him. She confronted him and said she knows he follows me on instagram and she's been tracking the amount of times he's liked my photos over the past year. She told him she thought it was disgusting that he would be friends with me online. She had my ex kick his own friend out of their home, they took him off the list for wedding guests and blocked him. She told my ex she wouldn't marry him and would cancel the wedding if he didn't cut his best friend off, simply for following me on instagram. She then proceeded to slander my name and tell many people in our city that I'm a w***e and that I almost ruined her wedding by having her fiance's best friend as my friend on instagram which was a personal insult and threat to her that means I must be interested in her man. The mutual friend told me he was disturbed and that her obsession with me was scary. He said he told her it was irrational and that's when she kicked him out of the house.
Should I file a police report just proactively in case she continues this behavior? It's been 4 years and she hasn't relented. I've never met or spoken to this person and I have nothing to do with my ex. This stalking is uncalled for, I'm not a threat to her relationship and have a relationship of my own and have had one for 4 years.

2023.06.07 18:49 17kgofchicken Exploring the outer realms of Brighton (by bus)?
Looking at a map of the Brighton region reveals many areas I'm not familar with including Patcham, Mile Oak, Portslade, Hangleton, Withdean, Hollingbury, Bevendean, Woodingdean, Whitehawk, etc.
I'd like to take a few day trips out to these areas and have a scout around.
Do any of them have anything approaching a "town centre", like a collection of shops or coffee shops? Or a focal point?
I see they're well served by busses but where should I get off?
Any highlights in any of them I should check out?
How safe are they for outsiders?

2023.06.07 18:34 Key_Outcome_3386 Why would my ex 's fiance (26F) slander my name (35F), create drama and stalk me 7 years after I broke up with my ex (37M)?
Advice needed please
Backstory: Him and I were together for 3 years, we lived together for 2 years. He asked me to marry him 2 years in, I said yes. I realized shortly after that he exhibited a lot of traits that were too toxic to overlook and we civilly discussed breaking up when our lease ended at the beginning of the summer '16. When the lease ended we both moved to separate places and went through with the break up. It was a clean breakup, no drama, mutual etc. I have not had any contact with him since 2016. We have some mutual friends post breakup, 1 of which I've stayed in touch with casually, we've hung out maybe 1-3x in the past 7 years.
2019: My ex is currently engaged to a 26 year old woman. He started seeing her in 2018. The reason I know this is because this woman stalked me periodically since they started dating. It started in 2019 when she made 3 visits to my part time place of employment which is a small retail store in the city. She came in and struck up a convo with a random customer at the store and loudly said her name, my ex's name, that they worked together, mentioned where they worked, said that she was better looking than his ex and was making small talk. She was clearly trying to provoke me, but I ignored her. She even signed up for a joint account under her name and my ex's name with my manager and said "we'll be back as a couple". She came in 2x after that and my co-workers assisted her. I also saw her trailing my car 2x when I was driving to my parent's house, 40 minutes from the city where I live and where she presumably lived at the time, she followed me all the way to my street but didn't turn. 2021: I was driving to the grocery store in my neighborhood and saw her and my ex standing outside of a cigar shop downtown less than a 2 minute walk from the apartment complex I live at. I didn't think anything of it, although they don't live in my current city. This was around 7:30pm. The next morning I woke up and my car's tail light was smashed out and my car was scratched. I filed a police report and the officer said it was vandalized, and it was not from another car hitting my vehicle, he asked me if anyone would have done this. There are no cameras on the lot where I live. 2023: February:" I saw her standing outside of my apartment when I was coming in from a coffee run. My apartment complex has residential and commercial leases so I didn't question it and assumed she was here for one of the businesses.
Then 2 weeks ago at random I got a message from the mutual friend that I have with my ex. He informed me that he had been told he was not allowed to attend my ex's wedding, because his fiance doesn't want them to be friends. He told me he was deleted off all social media accounts and blocked by both of them, simply for following me on instagram. He also told me that my ex's fiance had been stalking me online and had told him that she noticed he liked almost all of my posts over the last 2 years and that was unacceptable to her. He was at the home of her and my ex, when she confronted him and told him I was disgusting and called me some awful names. She accused him of having a crush on me and asked why he would follow me or like my posts unless he thought I was better than her. When he disagreed with her and said she was being irrational, she went and got my ex from his room and had him escort this person out of their house. BTW, my ex and this person have been best friends since they were 8.
I've never spoken to this woman, my ex and I haven't talked in 7 years, she's never met me, I've never done anything to her, yet after 7 years she's still causing drama to spill into my life. What's the reason for this and besides blocking her and continuing to ignore her should I do anything else?
TLDR: My ex and I had a mutual break up 7 years ago, civilly and with no drama. The break up was initiated by me. We haven't spoken since 2016. His fiance who he started seeing in 2018 has stalked me for 4 years, slanders my name, has come into my work and been seen outside of my home. She has caused drama to spill over into my life as recently as this week when she demanded her fiance tell his best friend that he was no longer welcome at their wedding after the confronted him for being my friend on social media.

2023.06.07 18:27 kankribe Would an EMT certification/experience look good to the board for OCS?
Assuming that you have the requirements in order like fitness scores.
The OSO team said the active duty spots for this summer and fall are already taken, so I have to wait it out till next year. Well shit. That's a lot of time to fuck around with.
I was offered free training at a local college for EMT certification (basic), and I could probably use it to work at a local hospital (that I am obsessed about, I have their coffee mug). I am already busy juggling multiple responsibilities including working towards a personal trainer certification so I am wondering if it would be worth squeezing in an EMT cert on top of that. The upside is it's free. The downside is that I'll be even more busy while getting certified.
Would EMT training/experience even be that useful as a Marine? Working in the EMS itself is intense and fast paced. I am guessing if I was ever deployed or in a "shit hit the fan" situation then it might be useful. Or useful if I ever wanted to volunteer at a local hospital in the evenings on top of my officer day job.

2023.06.07 18:17 ohmanigoofed Was I too forward?
I (23F) have been seeing this guy (22M) since February. I’m not closed off to commitment, but I wouldn’t say I’m actively looking for “the one”. I’ve been enjoying experiencing people and learning new things. This guy is a different story. The way that we’ve clicked is incredible. He told me he was open to seeing how things go, and similarly he wasn’t closed off to commitment but wasn’t actively seeking it. We agreed to keep going on dates, enjoying each other’s company. I will note though, he’s a terrible communicator. Even when it came down to making plans, which led to me thinking he was disinterested entirely. This seemed to not be the case, and we’ve since spent weekends together, I’ve met his friends, he’s met mine, etc.
I like him, but I’m at a bit of a wall. He’s leaving to spend the summer in his hometown, before returning in the fall. I expected him to want to cut things - especially because of how badly he communicates via text, but he invited me to spend a weekend there. I was over the moon until yesterday. I use Bumble BFF but I’d gone in to put date mode to sleep as I haven’t been using it. I noticed that his profile photo was updated to a new one one. We aren’t exclusive but this felt weird. I decided to ask him if he wanted to properly keep in touch while he’s away. He said that it would be hard but he thinks we can do it. To be more upfront, I asked him if it’s something he felt he could maintain or whether this felt more like a casual thing, because I don’t want him to feel pressured to communicate with me if it’s more serious than what he’s looking for.
He hasn’t seen or responded to those messages. I’m scared that I’ve pushed him away by trying to clarify what we’re doing here. I don’t want our expectations to get confused and I feel like putting in the effort to stay in contact takes some level of commitment that he may not have if he’s wanting to see other people. Not to mention, travel to his hometown is pretty expensive… I don’t know if I’m entirely open to putting in that time, money and emotional investment on the table if we’re non-exclusive.

2023.06.07 18:17 Emily-Louu Where is the best place to buy a unique array of charms for a fair price? (UK)
I want to make some gifts for friends and thought a small charm bracelet would be a good start.
I’ve had a dig around eBay and Etsy but I am finding they are too expensive per item with very few sellers offering multi-buy discounts for unique charms. I’m not looking for top-quality materials (no silver or gold, alloy metal is fine) but a good recommendation from experienced jewellery-makers to buy approximately 15 different charms.
Charms I’m looking for include:
• A handbag • A coffee cup • The acting masks (comedy and tragedy). • A dinosaur • A moon • A paw print • A gaming controller • A burger (don’t ask!) • A horseshoe
…and some other niché ones I may have to go digging elsewhere for because they are uncommon symbols.
In a nutshell, where would you recommend purchasing 15 unique charms for an affordable price, without having to import from overseas?
Thank you in advance for your responses!
Emily

2023.06.07 18:16 TarbusCavarus [RF] Uncle Jim
Prologue
As the end of autumn approached, the chill of morning and evening began to cut through like a hunting knife. Through the tanker's windshield, the driver could see a woman wearing a knitted scarf and a blanket on her shoulders. She had sat down in the middle of the road and was howling long and heart-wrenching like a lament. Passers-by looked at her with horror, surprise, or contempt. When a lady in a fur coat approached her to inquire, the unfortunate woman began to roll on the ground, thrashing about like a rolling log heading down the valley, and screaming with even greater force and deeper sorrow, so loud that it could be heard all the way to the shire, after which she stopped in a sob, crying quietly like the water of a lowland spring. She was Uncle Jim's eldest daughter.
Part I
Mr. and Mrs. Axelton were two retirees with charitable souls. They had the sign of charity burning on the soles of their dusty, second-hand shoes, laced up with shoelaces they got from the thrift store. They brought a bag of beans for the dog, bananas for the children, bread, bologna, and mustard for the homeless - lost souls from the outskirts of the city. They entered the basement of an abandoned building through labyrinthine paths surrounded by plywood and wrought iron fences. The building was marked with a red dot.
Around an improvised brick stove, illegally connected to the neighbourhood’s electricity network, sat Uncle Jim, Melissa, the children, and Baxter, opening cans of food received from a philanthropic organization. Baxter was a small mongrel with blue-blooded hunting dog lineage, who always hovered around Jim and helped him beg. Mrs. Axelton felt more compassion for the dog than for the family without a penny.
Jim spent his days in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral with Googie Gums, Mr. Blondey, Fane Fairfax, and Tane Cuthbert. They lived as best they could. On the drier days, they humbly lined up behind the priests, praying for them to give them something from the charity box. In the evenings, they opened a cheap two-litter bottle of beer, played backgammon, talked about the fate of the country, football, and the apocalypse.
One spring afternoon, a benevolent gentleman took Jim aside, treated him royally, and offered him an impossible-to-refuse deal. He handed him two thousand five hundred lei in cash, for which all he had to do was sign some blank documents. At that time, it was a good sum of money. Jim thought that luck had fallen upon him like a huge wheel of cheese, so he immediately accepted, without hesitation. With the money, he bought new clothes for Melissa, notebooks for the children, food, and drink in abundance.
At the beginning of the summer, a conflict erupted with Mr. Axelton over such an absurd issue that it would make customers of the "Tancredi Kingsley Jr." brewery doubt the honesty of the storyteller. Mrs. Axelton, a sensitive and volunteer person, was involved in a campaign to save stray dogs who, without the dedication of people like her, would have ended up in miserable shelters on the outskirts of the city. Those who were up for adoption were taken off the streets, washed, vaccinated, and sent to their new owners.
Jane, a neighbour from the ghetto, had told Jim one evening while gossiping on the roadside that significant profits could be made from selling animals. Therefore, seeing the strange pensioner walking through the neighbourhood week after week taking care of stray dogs, the idea arose in his mind that these actions could only have mercantile and hidden purposes, from which he was unfairly excluded from sharing the profits.
Despite Axelton's explanation, treating him to a sausage roll and a coffee from the vending machine, Jim remained unchanged in his opinions, considering his neighbour guilty of greed. When he saw him coming out of the building or on his way to the grocery store, he shouted at him from the other side of the street to demand an explanation and followed him grumpily like an unhappy landlord who had not been paid rent for a long time. He had become a real nuisance on the head of our unfortunate citizen, who now found himself forced to make unimaginable detours from the exit of the building to the bus station just to avoid the annoying neighbour with whom he did not want to continue the confrontation.
Part II
Fortunately, an unexpected twist of fate spared Mr. Axelton from a steep climb up the confrontation ladder when Jim was unexpectedly summoned to the station by a local police officer. It turns out he had signed a mortgage without any collateral which he had no chance of repaying in this lifetime. He was charged with fraud and sent to the White Gate prison for five years. No one visited him. When he was released, after two and a half years of serving, he limped and had only a few teeth left in his mouth. It was as if he had aged ten years.
Meanwhile, Melissa had coupled up with Fane and had a child with him. They moved together to the Hopeless Heights, a neighbourhood built specifically for needy people, and Jim's children were sent to an orphanage. Baxter was taken in by a kind-hearted nobleman who loved animals and owned a seafood restaurant, entrusting him to a mute maid who walked him around the blocks three times a day. Sometimes, on summer days, dressed in a bathrobe and a pair of flip-flops, Sir. Hatchet Jenkins would come out with two other small dogs as big as cats who walked swaying like wind-up toys. He walked the streets like a traveling circus performer, but if anyone dared to mock him, he became so furious that he turned into a steam boiler, blowing heat through his nostrils and obscenities at his enemy, threatening to punch them, showing them the cane he would strike his heels with.
Uncle Jim first moved in front of St. Nicholas Church, where Father Murphy O'Malley served. He was a small man, always carrying a leather briefcase like a spy movie security agent, had a carefully groomed moustache, a gold watch and ring, and patent leather shoes. Everyone said he had the gift. He came to church in a luxury car. When he opened the door, he was greeted by a multitude of beggars, some of whom had come from neighbouring quarters, trying to kiss his hand and ask for coins. Jim didn't last long there, the competition was too high.
Lately, he had been experiencing more frequent headaches. He walked with a cane down the narrow street, swaying in the wind like a turnip pulled from the ground. I didn't think he would last much longer, but Uncle Jim had a survival instinct that most mortals lack. He stopped first at Mr. Axelton's, with whom he had made amends in the meantime, and asked for a pair of boots for the snowy weather and a packet of aspirin for his headache. He found an old fur hat with ears that had been thrown away and drank a cup of mulled wine, given as charity for the souls of the dead. Then, he found shelter in a cave under the ruins of an abandoned manor.
In the morning, he emerged from the ground like a contemporary Lazarus and sat next to the all-night convenience store near the Agriculture Department. On his way out, the kindest customers would always leave him something: a roll, a coin with the king's face on it, half a salami stick, a pair of socks, a cube of melted cheese, or a bottle of curdled milk. He had a yellow plastic bag in which he loaded all of his products. In the evening, when he returned to his lair, it was always full of wonders.
Epilogue
When spring arrived, Jim began to bloom like snowdrops. His teeth grew anew, made of copper, his hair turned green like grass, his eyes started to distinguish details with the precision of an eagle, his skin became as smooth as that of young boys, his arms became steel, his forehead raised, his thoughts became clear, and his vision became as clear as that of great wise men. It was rumoured that he was making so much money that he could move to a hotel. The last time I saw him was on a foggy April morning. He got into a taxi and disappeared into the smoke of history.

2023.06.07 17:58 HovisTMM (Spoilers Main) Example of warging?
A Clash of Kings - Arya X:
"You stay here with the horses," said Arya. "I'll get rid of him. Come quick when I call." Gendry nodded. Hot Pie said, "Hoot like an owl when you want us to come." "I'm not an owl," said Arya. "I'm a wolf. I'll howl."
Arya slid her dagger out and drew it across his throat, as smooth as summer silk. His blood covered her hands in a hot gush and he tried to shout but there was blood in his mouth as well. "Valar morghulis," she whispered as he died. When he stopped moving, she picked up the coin. Outside the walls of Harrenhal, a wolf howled long and loud. She lifted the bar, set it aside, and pulled open the heavy oak door. By the time Hot Pie and Gendry came up with the horses, the rain was falling hard. "You killed him!" Hot Pie gasped.
She never calls to them in the text, so did they respond to the wolf call from outside?
Did Arya make the wolf call happen through warging?
OR is this metaphorical and more about Arya
feeling detached and hearing her own noises as external?
If this is warging from Arya, I think it's the earliest instance of it outside of wolf dreams from her.
