This study aimed to investigate the effects of 12-week consumption of highly bioavailable curcumin (150mg/day of Theracurmin Super [TS-P1] or Theracurmin [CR-033P]) on common cold symptoms, immune function, and inflammatory markers.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted from November 2021 to May 2022 on 99 healthy Japanese adults. Using a computerized random number generator, each subject was randomly assigned to one of the following three groups: TS-P1, CR-033P, or placebo (n= 33 per group). For 12 weeks, each group consumed the four capsules that were given to them daily.
The cumulative number of days for which common cold symptoms persisted was set as the primary outcome. Immunity parameters, inflammatory parameters, liver function parameters, and physical examination results were additional outcomes. A safety assessment was also performed. Ninety-four subjects completed the study, and the per protocol set included 30 subjects in the placebo group, 32 subjects in the TS-P1 group, and 33 subjects in the CR-033P group.
The cumulative number of days for which common cold symptoms persisted was significantly lower in the TS-P1 and CR-033P groups than that in the placebo group. No adverse effects were observed. Consumption of highly bioavailable curcumin, TS-P1 or CR-033P (150mg/day), for 12weeks reduced the number of days for which common cold symptoms persisted in healthy Japanese adults.

Objective: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is a complex clinical problem that often leads to further myocardial injury. Curcumin is the main component of turmeric, which has been proved to have many cardioprotective effects. However, the cardioprotective potential of curcumin remains unclear. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the clinical and preclinical (animal model) evidence regarding the effect of curcumin on myocardial I/R injury.
Methods: Eight databases and three register systems were searched from inception to 1 November 2022. Data extraction, study quality assessment, data analyses were carried out strictly. Then a fixed or random-effects model was applied to analyze the outcomes. SYRCLE’s-RoB tool and RoB-2 tool was used to assess the methodological quality of the included studies. RevMan 5.4 software and stata 15.1 software were used for statistical analysis.
Results: 24 animal studies, with a total of 503 animals, and four human studies, with a total of 435 patients, were included in this study. The meta-analysis of animal studies demonstrated that compared with the control group, curcumin significantly reduced myocardial infarction size (p < 0.00001), and improved the cardiac function indexes (LVEF, LVFS, LVEDd, and LVESd) (p < 0.01). In addition, the indexes of myocardial injury markers, myocardial oxidation, myocardial apoptosis, inflammation, and other mechanism indicators also showed the beneficial effect of curcumin (p < 0.05). In terms of clinical studies, curcumin reduced the incidence of cardiac dysfunction, myocardial infarction in the hospital and MACE in the short term, which might be related to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative property. Dose-response meta-analysis predicted, 200 mg/kg/d bodyweight was the optimal dose of curcumin in the range of 10–200 mg/kg/d, which was safe and non-toxic according to the existing publications.
Conclusion: Our study is the first meta-analysis that includes both preclinical and clinical researches. We suggested that curcumin might play a cardioprotective role in acute myocardial infarction in animal studies, mainly through anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptosis, and anti-fibrosis effects. In addition, from the clinical studies, we found that curcumin might need a longer course of treatment and a larger dose to protect the myocardium, and its efficacy is mainly reflected on reducing the incidence of myocardial infarction and MACE.

Objective The ameliorative effect of taurine on diabetes has received extensive attention in recent years. Despite promising data from animal studies, the efficacy of taurine supplementation in human studies has been inconsistent. We thus did a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to assess the effect of taurine supplement on glycemic indices, serum lipids, blood pressure, body composition in patients with diabetes.
Methods We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, FDA.gov, and ClinicalTrials.gov for randomized controlled trials (published from inception to January 15, 2022; no language restrictions) about the effect of taurine supplement on diabetes. Values of Standardized Mean Differences (SMD) were determined for continuous outcomes.
Results Of 2206 identified studies, 5 randomized controlled trials were eligible and were included in our analysis (N = 209 participants). Compared with the control group, taurine could significantly reduce HbA1c (SMD −0.41[95% CI: −0.74, −0.09], p = 0.01), Fasting Blood Sugar (SMD − 1.28[95% CI: −2.42, −0.14], p = 0.03) and HOMA-IR (SMD − 0.64[95% CI: −1.22, −0.06], p = 0.03). In addition, taurine also reduced Insulin (SMD −0.48 [95% CI: −0.99, 0.03], p = 0.06) and TG (SMD −0.26 [95% CI: −0.55, 0.02], p = 0.07), but did not reach statistical significance.
Conclusions Taurine supplementation is beneficial in reducing glycemic indices, such as HbA1c, Fasting Blood Sugar, HOMA-IR in diabetic patients, but has no significant effect on serum lipids, blood pressure and body composition in diabetic patients. Taurine emerges as a new option for the management of patients with diabetes. Further studies are needed to understand the potential effect of taurine in diabetic patients.

Hi friends. This is a long story and has been the worst year of my life and I just need to see if anyone else has gone through something similar.
Back in December 2022, I noticed a lump on my vulva. It was causing quite a bit of pain. I went to my OB/GYN and he said I had a bartholins gland cyst and it should resolve on its own. About a month later, it was causing more pain and getting bigger so they were going to excise/drain the cyst. The doctor put me to sleep and I was woken up a half an hour later and told it had resolved itself. I remember laying in the hospital bed, reaching down and being able to still feel the lump. I thought maybe it was just residual swelling and let it go. They're the doctors, right?
In May of 2022, I was still having pain and the lump was still there. I went to see a new gynecologist who told me he felt the lump and sent me to a Urogynecologist. She was wonderful and caring and listened go my concerns. In July, I had another surgery to excise/drain whst they still thought was a bartholin's gland cyst. She ended up not being able to drain it and had to do a partial vulvectomy to remove most of the mass. The doctor finished the surgery, sent the 'cyst' to be biopsied as a precaution and a week later, the results ended up in my EMR.
The biopsy results stated that I had an angiomyxoma (although they didn't know if it was aggressive or superficial but were leaning toward aggressive), a (typically) benign soft tissue neoplasm, which has only been reported in about 300 people. They sent me to gyne oncology and I had another partial vulvectomy in September 2022, (a few days after I was supposed to be getting married, btw. We pushed the wedding back to 2023) The oncologist finished the surgery, went out to talk to my mom and told her he couldn't get it all, it was too close to my rectum. The pathology in the middle of the surgery was subsequent with the angiomyxoma diagnosis. The following day, he came to talk to both of us and started throwing around the words cancer and sarcoma, saying I would need another surgery with gyne oncology and a colo-rectal doctor and I would likely need radiation.
I went home, started to heal and cope with my new reality. I went in about a week or 2 later for a follow up and he told me he had "good news." The new pathology report stated that I had "nodular hyperplasia of the bartholin's gland", it is benign and im good to go. My fiance and I were dumbfounded and obviously so happy I would not need further treatment but I was skeptical and asked for a second opinion. They sent the biopsies to Cleveland Clinic to look at. They sent slides from both surgeries. The new pathology report from the first surgery still stated "Aggressive Angiomyxoma" and the new report from the second surgery said "nodular hyperplasia of bartholin's gland."
I went back for another follow up a few months later and told the doctor I'm still having pain and asking more questions that had us concerned as time went on. I felt as though all of my questions were blown off and all he would say is "well the pathology shows this and that's great."
I'm about 6-7 months post op and still having pain. He told me to try pelvic floor physical therapy and I'm so scared it's just going to make things worse. I know my body and just have a feeling something still isn't right. No other gyne oncologists near me take my insurance and im not opposed to traveling for another opinion but feel like i need a doctor familiar with this. I really don't know where to go from here.

Hello all, I've decided to post this on a throwaway for obvious reasons because I'd really appreciate some genuine insight. Please do let me know if I oughta share this elsewhere too, for sake of cause. I didn't know where else to ask next.
I (21M) have been working in an office at my university as an assistant since February of last year. It is a work-study position in the U.S. and I have two supervisors I work directly under in two different offices (I will be referring to the relevant boss here as L, 28M). I got sick for a bit last March (something I took advantage of) and ended up losing weight as a result. I've since lost over 100lbs - however, when Summer came, I noticed that L took notice of this, and became very blushful around me from around mid-June to onward. This was flattering at first because not only was he a pretty nice guy, we also got along very well - but he is my boss and I knew better than to get involved in something so 'scandalous' (if that's even the right word, lol). We did not flirt at any point in time though, and as far as I am aware no conversation we ever had could be interpreted as such.
Things hit the fan mid-Fall as I underwent one personal hardship after another - which then affected my attendance at work (callouts combined with a couple of NCNS was a cause for concern). L eventually had a conversation with me about it, however during this talk he had caught a particular odor coming from somewhere on myself as I had smoked three hours before arriving to my shift. I replaced my clothing and ate something to kill the buzz (if you are a heavy marijuana user, your tolerance can skyrocket in ridiculous degrees - this is not a good thing, but you'd understand that the high isn't exactly inebriating) yet was caught anyway. He confessed to being a user as well while advising me to be more responsible with it. On the other hand this was the final straw and I was sent home with a warning despite being able to work. This, according to him was just to be safe and avoid a fuss - I believe him of course, so suffice to say I was prompted to get my shit together. I have not smoked since October of last year and truly feel as though I turned my academics and life around with the change in commitment along with other obligations. However, I decided that the dynamic between L and I wasn't exactly appropriate and in my best interest. Having worked retail and fast-food since 15 before going into the Academia environment, my experience is truly little to utilize but it helps me a lot. Basically, I maintained everything exchanged between the two of us as strictly professional as possible and limited my interaction with him as politely as I was able to. He caught wind of this change and the following would ensue over the past six months;

• To start off lightly, he does not greet me unless I do so. If we are not alone and I am in the other office, he does not acknowledge me despite working at the front desk and literally being the first face you'd see upon walking in. He enters and beelines for whoever else he is there to speak to - warming up to them.
• When assigning a task when the two of us happen to be alone, he concludes his instructions by asking me if I "know what I'm doing" on every such instance. I just comply, but I can sense that his tone and way of explaining things to me when it's just us really allows him to overcomplicate whatever directions as well as question my ability to me directly (basically to my face lol). I do my best to not let it show that it does stagger me in the moment because of how blunt he's become. Not only does it seem very out of character from the nice boss I knew, I feel as though he is dialing up what he can get away with.
• He once mentioned to my other supervisor if the Department ever conducted performance reviews for assistants while I was well within earshot. This was a couple of weeks after his coaching to me and my decision to put forth a shift in our level of engagement - so, what stood out to me was thinking to myself "what else can be said between us that already hasn't?" Thus, I felt it safe to conclude he wished to either strike stress & anxiety in me, or find an opportunity to express criticism in a more aggressive manner. This is just my interpretation. It has been six months since then and nothing has come of it, and out of a total of the four assistants we are working here - one is graduating this semester that is ending in two months. So, if these reviews are to be done, I concur that they should have been done already - or they eventually will be soon. I do not know though, and I want to emphasize that these are literally just my thoughts.
• When working in his office with one other assistant, he instructs us to both leave early once we finish an assigned task, or if not busy, we may just go. However, the first instance in which the other assistant exited the office before I did - I was ready to go, saying my goodbyes with him but was suddenly told I "can wait a bit". This occurred on three separate instances across three separate weeks since January. The longest I have been instructed to stay was a quarter of an hour.
• This may seem petty, but it simply stood out to me. He has pulled away every other assistant except for myself away from the office to participate in a voluntary study. He asks them, of course, but from what I see I am not considered at all. I work in a Psychology/Neurology Department (won't specify which to be safe) and only two of us are actual majors in the Department itself, me excluded. I do not see what benefit the other student assistant outside of the major gets from this exposure other than a random fun experience involving a robotics lab. They have all been asked to have joined studies for the fun of it, I simply have not.
• I have confronted him about this conduct twice. During the first instance, I only brought up the fact that I was being asked to stay later than the other assistant. He justified this with her schedule, as it had her leave an hour before I did - and I left it at that. It did not occur to me to ask why he would instruct us both to leave if she was solely the one meant to go. The second time I approached him, he told me (stating there was no easy way to put this, mind you) that I had to stop overthinking things and said nothing was going on. He added that I was mistaken about his change in attitude too. I also left the conversation at that and felt as though he just tried to gaslight me then, but I couldn't think of anything much else of it.

All in all, things have been tense. I'm pretty uncomfortable and don't want to lose my job here, especially after working three all of 2022 and being reduced to one. I was not reappointed at my second position at the end of Dec. and quit my third back in late Nov. I have confided in one party and was directed to the appropriate channels on campus - but I don't know if I should even proceed. I'm well aware that this is a consequence of my decision...is this really something I should just ride out? Perhaps there is truly no harm nor foul to endure and hope for the best? Please let me know you guys, I hope I don't sound crazy. I just don't know what to do and worry that I may lose this last job of mine too once June's here. It's the best position I've ever worked in.

I recently moved into a new place where the driveway is at the back of the house, and accessible through an alley way. This being in Canada, the alley way has been covered with thick ice and snow. While the city does plow snow in the alley way, they never do it as thoroughly as they do the main streets. People drive down the two tracks formed by other vehicles.
Things were not too bad until recently when the temperature has become warmer during the day. The ice has been melting, which appears to have resulted in the tracks being deeper, relative to the un-tracked portion of the alley way.
In any case, you could hear that there was quite a bit of noise when my car was going down the alley. It felt like some part of the car was being scratched by the (melting) ice.
It sounded really painful to me, and my car is relatively new (2022). I assume this is not good for the car. But how bad is it? Should I refrain from driving in the alley way while it is in this condition?
