Hi everyone! Forgive me for any mistakes I’m making here, I’m not very involved in Reddit and I’m only on mobile.
I’m really in need of some help here. My mom and I are on a cross-country road trip, starting in California. We tow a 2017 Wrangler Unlimited Chief behind our motorhome, we had it professionally outfitted specifically for the job and we follow the manual’s instructions when hooking and unhooking every time, to the T. We made it all the way to Florida after an excellent few months of fun with no trouble. However, as soon as we landed and went to unhook, the 4 wheel drive transfer case was floppy and would not change gear. We had it towed to the Quincy dealership. It took over a week but they ordered a new transfer case and installed it and told us to come get it. They told us a plastic part on the cable had failed and that that was what caused the problem. We brought it back to hook up to the RV, and when we went to put it into neutral it became floppy again. We took it back and they worked on it again. This happened 3 more times, they would call it fixed and we would drive it back only for it to fall apart by the time we got back to where we had parked the rig, a whole half mile away. They confessed they didn’t know how to help us. They sent their “best tec” over to get it into neutral for us behind the RV and we hooked it up and towed it to Orlando, hoping a bigger dealership would know what to do.
It has been 20 days since we arrived in Florida. The Napleton dealership has had it for 9 days now and have done nothing. They called us to tell us they could not replicate the problem, insisted we were just doing it wrong and that there was no problem. So we drove down yesterday in their loaner to show them in person. The service manager Craig was condescendingly flopping the stick back and forth “see, there’s no problem,” and then jammed it into 2 low and couldn’t move it back again. They promised they would fix it after hours of waiting around at the dealership trying to get some help and we left. This morning we called again to see how it was going, and the very same men repeated that there was no problem and that there was nothing to be done despite WITNESSING the actual flaw. They said they checked it and that there were no adjustments to be made and that there was nothing they could do. These men have become very rude and aggressive towards us for refusing to take a broken Jeep back. We literally cannot put it into tow to take home. My mother had him promise over the phone to replace the transfer case. We have had Jeep Wave involved every step of the way, and called them to be sure he was ordering the part. He told the Jeep Wave representative that all he was going to do was sit on it for several days, leading me to believe he had no intention of ordering the part he promised or working on it any further. It took several more calls from Jeep Wave to get him to order the part and commit to working on it.
We are frustrated to tears. What was supposed to be a beautiful trip has become a nightmare. We have had to cancel many expensive RV park reservations that we wont be refunded for and we will no longer have time to visit the keys, the Everglades, or the rest of Florida we were so excited to see. At this point, all we want is to go home. We are completely under warranty and have been nothing but kind with these men, and I truly don’t understand the aggression they’ve been displaying towards us. I can’t help but feel we would be taken more seriously if we weren’t just “a pair of nagging women.” Now we are looking at repair places outside of Jeep, and I’m finding it absolutely absurd that we will have to pay out of pocket to get this fixed.
If anyone can help me in any way, I would be endlessly thankful. Any advice you can give us would be wonderful. Thank you so much for anything you can tell me.
