I was wondering what would you recommend me of changing apart of the GPU, which is obviously outdated.
I was thinking about the following 3 parts:

1. GPU - I did finish a ML/DL course two years ago and since then I am thinking of playing a bit more with building my own DL/ML models as a hobby projects. I am also thinking of playing a bit more with stable diffusion, etc. and I guess that means that I need to get Nvidia, but honestly, I really despise this company and I am very reluctant of buying their products. On the other hand I am not sure how much time I would have on my hobby projects. I occasionally game, but mostly play older games. I don't care so much about RT either. The problem is that I don't want to spend 1000+ on the GPU alone as it doesn't make any sense. I know for ML/DL the obvious choice is 4090 because of its high VRAM and ludicrous power efficiency but I think that would be an overkill for casual use. 4080 is really bad in terms of price/performance, especially 4090 being so close in price, so not an option. 4070 and 4070Ti would have been perfect candidates if they were with 16Gb VRAM, but Nvidia... So I am really torn here. For the record I live in Europe and here the secondhand GPU market sucks, like delusional people selling used GPUs for 75-80% of the MSRP and it doesn't make sense too. Plus another factor to consider is that here the energy prices are really high, I pay 35 Euro cents (.38$ per KWh), so I want the whole system not to break the bank, considering I would work on this PC 8-10 hours per day.
2. Monitor - I am thinking about upgrading to the 42 LG C2 but I am worried about I am using my monitor primarily for work and just secondary as entertainment, but I am moving my desk to the bedroom and I was thinking that I can use it as a TV at nights if I want to watch something. I am also using Linux with tiling WM meaning that I can hide the toolbars and when jumping between different workspaces the burn-in risk won't be so high but I haven't decided on this one.
3. RAM memory, I am just not sure how much of a difference that would make.
4. SSD, upgrade to 2Tb Samsung 980 Pro or even 990 Pro, since the prices are really low at the moment
5. PSU - I guess here the deciding factor would be the GPU

I just moved to Germany a week ago and have been staying in an AirBnb while looking for a permanent rental. This morning 5 police officers in civilian clothing knocked on my door and came into the apartment. They seemed confused that I was there and were looking for my host. They checked my passport info, asked me to explain everything about the Airbnb listing and show them the sublease agreement that the host had filled out for us (we asked him to do this in order to register with the city). They had me send all of this information to them over email. They asked me if I knew where he was, if he had potentially left the country. They asked me to explain all of the contact I've had with him. They then told me not to tell him that they were looking for him. One of the officers spoke great English but I couldn't understand what the others were saying. I did ask them if I was safe living there and they said not to worry and that my host was actually a police officer himself. They wrote down a lot of information about me, including passport number, and asked me for my original home address, etc. Possibly an important detail is that they barely looked around the apartment at all. There is a locked bedroom in the Airbnb where I assume the host is keeping his stuff but they were only mildly interested in that. So I assume they weren't looking for drugs or anything like that.
I am a bit at a loss for what to do. I'm sure if I mentioned this to Airbnb they would give me a refund but I got a really good deal on this place and would probably end up losing a lot of money finding another place to stay. Is there any chance I am actually safe here? I'm thinking probably not. If this were American cops I would understand a bit more what to do I think. Part of me thinks that they were asking me a lot of questions because they entered the apartment and therefore need to check to make sure that I'm not in the country illegally, but I am not sure. Any advice, theories for what might've happend, or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone! I was accepted to Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM) and will be attending in the upcoming Fall of 2023. I am a Canadian student who has been out of my undergrad for about two years now, I weighed my options and am really looking forward to attending school this year.
I received my acceptance in January and to be perfectly honest it was a back up plan. My partner and those around me were more excited for this acceptance, yet I do not know why but I can't shake this feeling of partial lack of accomplishment. Although, through this decision I know I will be way happier in school again pursuing my dream than banking on MAYBE getting an interview next cycle, or cycle(s) after that.
I applied to Ontario schools in Canada my first time around applying to medical school in 2020 going into my final year of undergrad. I received 0 interviews with a 515 MCAT score (128,128,129,130), CASPer score was not given out that year, 3.92 GPA (Ontario scale). Some main activities of mine included my own business from High School (chickens for 3 years), Personal Trainer for 2 years, volunteering at 2 different Hospices etc anyways no bites from schools. Looking back my application was not great (writing as well was so cringe hahaha) but still I believed I was an okay applicant.
I applied this cycle (2023 admission) to 16 American schools + 5 Ontario schools, been quite disheartening although which is usual for premeds these days. I genuinely believed I had a great shot this time around since I added a ton of new activities, fleshed out why medicine and practiced for interviews a lot.
Results: 16/16 rejections from American schools outright no II. Pre II Rejections from McMaster, UofT, Western, Queens-Lakeridge Family medicine, interview with Queens & Ottawa. Rejected post MMI at Queens, then Waitlisted (low af on speculated list) with Ottawa but basically a rejection. I felt great after my interview at Ottawa but clearly I was not the caliber I thought I was.
- Stats: Same MCAT, cGPA Ontario scale: 3.93, AMCAS scale 4.0 GPA. CASPer: American = 4Q & Canadian = 3Q. Preeview Exam 6/9.
- Activities: volunteering with Hospice in the community (3rd one over span of 5 years), working at a Toronto hospital in-patient surgery as a patient assistant >1y at the time FT, personal trainer, soccer coach, shadowing multiple physicians in ER + OR 60 hours ish, FT customer service >6months, owned chicken business during high school, Senior Systems Anatomy/Lab Volunteer for two years. Heavy focus on employment, volunteering, shadowing, school and sports/hobbies (eg. I play soccer, workout all the time and rock climb), have honestly not got around to much research which I definitely will before residency apps.
I really believed I had a great shot this year and have been thinking back on my potential downfalls. Writing seems to be a possibility, although I spent so long on those dang essays and everyone I had read it. Missing research as well, interview skills, I don't know. I am honestly just so happy SJSM has given me an opportunity to still pursue my dream. I have a full-ride scholarship with the school (MCAT + essay) so it will be a reduced cost which is fantastic.
I just wanted to put all this out here for anyone on reddit to see as I could not find much recent information available on SJSM as an incoming student. I am hoping to practice in the States after I am done my 20 months on the island, also am open to specialties like Family Med, Internal Med, Surgery, Trauma Surg and Pediatrics but I am sure one will have my heart after clinical rotations.
If any students attending/attended SJSM or have stories about their journey through the school/matching I would really appreciate it. Additionally, maybe any Canadian students who have went through this process please I would love to hear from you & your experience.

Hi, I don't post or lurk here often because I don't see a reason to be reminded about agoraphobia unnecessarily, but I've come a long way since 10 months ago and I wanted to share my story.
Around August last year I was so badly unwell with panic disorder and agoraphobia that I was ready to admit myself into a psychiatric hospital, even if it meant 10 panic attacks on the way there. I was not eating or sleeping, and my nerves were so sensitised that even the sound of my girlfriend dropping a fork in the kitchen was enough to send me into shock. My mind was in a constant state of overwhelm that I couldn't listen to any music, watch any TV, and even the taste of food felt overstimulating to me. My girlfriend was spoonfeeding me and I was so lethargic from sleep deprivation that I couldn't even walk several metres to the bathroom, so I had to urinate in a bottle. Yeah, that's how bad I was.
I sought therapy rather quickly. I worked with a psychologist that specialised in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This worked far better for me than traditional CBT, as ACT is more based around accepting and "observing" your intrusive thoughts and using techniques to diffuse from them, rather than trying to argue with them and reframe them which is more what CBT is about.
The real work, however, came with exposure therapy. I started literally just by walking to my mailbox. It took me 2 weeks to walk 100 metres to the supermarket. However, slowly but surely, my work was paying off. After a series of months, I was starting to tick off many of my goals, namely to visit nearby gardens/parks, go to the cinema, take public transport again (obviously just starting with a single stop), etc.
I make all of this sound easy, but it was not. What I struggled with most was the feeling of being "trapped". I cannot even begin to describe the dread I felt when the bus or light rail I was on came to an unexpected stop. The sheer horror and adrenaline dumps were horrific. And yes, there were setbacks, but I quickly jumped back on the horse and got back out there. The setbacks, when they did happen, were brief.
And it was all worth it. I am now 10 months into recovery, and last weekend I travelled 3 hours by car with a friend to an isolated cabin in the middle of nowhere, with no reception, and I had a blast. I am now going on dates with people again, I'm taking public transport freely, and for the most part, I'm really just living a normal life. I still struggle a bit with the feeling of being "trapped" sometimes but it's getting a lot better. I can take trains for hours, and only feel uncomfortable if they stop, but I no longer go into a panic. I am certainly not fully recovered, but I am looking to plan my first plane trip soon.
Why am I telling you this? Not to brag, because I am not special. I just did the work, and you can too. There is nothing to say that you can't, no matter how long you've suffered. I wanted to share a few key points to help others recover:

• Exposure therapy is the single most powerful intervention for phobias. Medications of any form do not treat phobias. They may mask symptoms of panic disorder, but they will not free you of agoraphobia. This includes benzos and alcohol. Benzos and alcohol inhibit our brain's learning mechanism from these experiences, and I assure you that if you rely on either of these your recovery will take far longer, or you may not progress. Some people find that antidepressants help, but I am not qualified to talk about that. If you feel like there's no way out, then you can give antidepressants a try. I know there are many people in this community that feel exposure is controversial, and I am sorry to be ignorant, but I have noticed a trend where these individuals have not done exposure correctly at all. You cannot say "I have been outside once a month and exposure isn't working" or "exposure was hard and traumatising so it doesn't work". It is MEANT to be hard.
• Exposure therapy does not need to be conducted with a therapist. You can do it on your own. Create a fear ladder and work your way up starting from what's most doable.
• You have to do some sort of exposure every single day. This is what I had to do to get to this point, and if you're serious about getting your life back, there are no such things as rest days. No matter how badly you're feeling, you have to get out. It will not feel worth it until you're three months down the line and realise that you "forgot" about anxiety while having dinner with friends.
• Don't become overly reliant on anxiety podcasts, anxiety videos, anxiety books, anxiety communities, etc. It doesn't help to constantly be reminded about this condition. Use them as a guide only. The goal is to move on from this condition, so don't wrap your identity around it. Don't call yourself an agoraphobe. Don't say "my" agoraphobia. You have a condition that can be treated. It is not a life sentence, believe it or not.
• If you can afford it, seek therapy to learn strategies and techniques to manage panic disorder and panic attacks. Exposure is key, but the techniques and coping mechanisms I've learned from therapy have been worth the weight of gold. They have GREATLY helped my exposures and I've been able to conjure up these techniques to prevent full blown panic attacks from surfacing.
• Don't give up. A fulfilling life is waiting for you on the other side. It doesn't matter how long it takes, because it will all be worth it in the end.

Feel free to ask any questions. I am not some "anxiety guru" and again, I am not some special individual that was able to miraculously conquer this phobia. I just followed a graded set of steps, and was consistent. I am merely sharing the lessons I've learned from my own personal experience with agoraphobia, and what I've learned from the 15+ individual therapy sessions I've had over the course of the past 10 months. If you're ready to argue that I'm naive or ignorant because I haven't been housebound as long as you have, please don't bother. Time is irrelevant in the context of this phobia. It is not degenerative in that sense. You can get back out there regardless of how long you've been housebound. Lastly, there is no quick hack to recovering from this condition, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you lies.
So.. are you ready to spend another day inside, or will today be the day where you put your shoes on and make a start, even if it just means stepping a foot outside your door? I really hope it's the latter. You got this!
