A fine drizzle was coming down on the town of Starlight Rose. A familiar wolf-kin beasta in red robes that appeared to be shimmering despite the cloudy gloom of the day was walking along the main road. In his right hand, he held a long polished oak staff, topped with a red glowing gemstone the size of his fist. In his left hand, held away from his body, was a tan leather satchel, the drawstring tied in a knot. It appeared full, and seemed to shudder and wriggle. Felixin smiled and nodded to passing villagers.
"Hey there, Felixin," came the rumbling voice of Earl Shatterknuckle. The blonde dwarf, presently wearing just simple brown leather trousers, fell in step beside his taller friend. Felixin looked down at the dwarf, whose smaller frame was bulging with muscles, with blue and gold glowing tattoos tracing intricate spider-web-like symbols across his chest and arms, smiling back.
"Good day to you, Earl," the wolf said. There was a spitting-chittering sound coming from the bag, making Felixin pause and frown before giving the satchel a good whack with his magical staff. "Quiet, you!" he hissed at it.
"Caught yourself another evil spirit, eh?" Earl said with a smirk.
"Oh yes, and this one was quite the nasty piece of work. I'm on my way back to my lab to properly dispose of it. I think it's from some destroyed remnant of Eld technology, one of the ones that gained sentience, or at least some spiritual semblance to it," Felixin said as he gave the bag another whack when it started to make some electronic beeping sounds.
"Oh?" Earl asked, curious. "I remember more than once we had some nasty run-ins with Eld-tech back when we were adventurers."
"I remember you and Melthi being the ones to turn the blasted machines on, both times when cautioned not to," Felixin said pointedly, making the dwarf chuckle.
"What can I say? We're both curious by nature!"
"Yes, that's one word for it," Felixin said with a smile, remembering his adventuring days and the party of friends he would regularly travel with. "Anyways. For some reason, about six years ago, they suddenly became much more prevalent. Thankfully, their numbers have been dropping back down over the years."
"What makes you think this one is from Eld tech?"
"It kept saying 'Does not compute!' over and over again, while also identifying some kind of rabbit threat." Felixin's mood seemed to shift and his ears laid back on his head, while his tail dipped, almost long enough to drag on the ground behind him. "And when it mentioned rabbits, it made me think of my little princess."
Earl rolled his eyes as he reached up and clapped the town wizard on the back. "Ah, Kiana'll be back to visit before you know it."
"I know... it's just, one minute she was this little delicate baby girl, and the next minute, she was this amazing young woman, all ready to up and go out."
"Didn't Kiana kick down a couple of brick walls when she was a baby?" Earl asked, scratching his head. Felixin waved a dismissive paw at that.
"Pure coincidences. Those walls were clearly unsound and improperly constructed, so much so that when she was having one of her tantrums just a little punch or kick was enough to send them tumbling down. We're lucky she wasn't hurt or scared, just confused and curious more than anything. Anyways, I just get so worried when I think of her, out there on the open road. Just so... vulnerable. Thankfully I made sure to instill in her a proper sense of caution." Earl snorted at that.
Meanwhile...
Kiana let out a roar of fury as her trusted tetsubo connected with the raised steel shield of the bandit before her. The metal dented and warped just as the bandit, shield and all, became airborne. They traveled in an arc straight towards a stone tower connected to an old run-down fort the bandits had holed up in. The screaming man smashed into the top of the tower, crumbling it, his screams instantly going silent.
"Fire!" Kiana heard a deep voice shout. There were several blasts and, thanks to Kiana's speed, she watched as five cannonballs headed in her direction. To the ordinary person, the black metallic spheres were probably nearly impossible to follow. To Kiana, it looked as though they were moving incredibly slow. She simply stepped aside from four of them, letting them explode into the nearby hillside. As the fifth one hurtled her way, she crouched slightly, raising her tetsubo like a baseball bat. She swung and smacked the cannonball, her tetsubo making a loud DING, and sent it flying right back where it had come from. The two bandits manning the cannon were obliterated along with the weapon itself, as well as a good chunk of the fort wall.
"She's some kind of demon!" one of the bandits cried. The man, really more of a boy, no older than Kiana, leapt down from the fort wall onto a carriage they had recently stolen from some traveling aristocrats. He then leapt onto the ground and sprinted out into the forest, stripping off the black cloak with the red eye in the center.
"DAMMIT!" the bandit leader cursed, pulling off his tricorn hat and dabbing his bald sweaty head with a handkerchief. While the remaining men were busy barring the windows or reloading and firing the cannons, he was gnashing his teeth. After a moment's hesitation, he pointed to a nearby subordinate. "You! Follow me. We'll unleash the troll on her."
The other bandit paled, audibly gulping. "Th-the troll? Are you sure th-that's wise?" Just as he finished asking that, another cannonball destroyed another cannon, making the entire structure shudder.
"We don't have any other options. Hopefully, after it kills her, it'll be injured enough for us to finish it off... or the other way around if she kills it." The other bandit grimaced at the options laid before them, but nodded solemnly. Outside, Kiana smacked another cannonball back at the cannon that fired it, being careful not to send it flying towards the base of the tower. According to one of the kidnapped merchants that had managed to escape and make it all the way to town, the cells where the bandits were holding their ransom victims were all on the ground floor. Kiana stopped when she heard a loud guttural roar, followed by a rapid series of loud BOOMs. Bandits ran by the windows and open holes of the fort, while the front gate slowly opened.
Out stumbled a massive creature. Its flesh was a dark brown, and had a texture not unlike tree bark. Its long arms and legs were thicker than the old oak trees in the forest near Starlight Rose. Its gnarled hands, with thick thorn-like protrusions sticking from the knuckles, balled into fists, fists that were as big as Kiana was tall. Its barrel-chest heaved, with white criss-crossing scars in its bark-flesh. It didn't have much in the way of a neck, and its head looked just like a tree stump, complete with root-like tendrils wriggling back and forth. It's mouth was partially concealed by the tendrils, until it reared back and opened its gaping maw, revealing rows of broken yellow teeth, to let out a bellow that shook the ground. From the top of its head grew two slightly spiraling branch-like horns.
"These idiots somehow managed to get a forest troll?" Kiana asked out loud, a smirk appearing on her face. "And this was only a gold-ranked quest? Something tells me I'm in for a sweet bonus."
The beast stopped as its knot-like eyes, of which there were at least seven, caught sight of the bunny girl. Up above from the second story windows and holes and from on the roof, the remaining bandits, many of them injured, looked down. Most were smirking, some of the more foolish ones shouted out taunts. The bandit leader stood there, looking grim-faced, but taking some satisfaction in knowing that despite their losses today, the annoying source of their problems was about to end, one way or another.
Kiana stuck the end of her tetsubo into the dirt, large and surprisingly quick thudding steps shaking the ground. The beast was lumbering towards Kiana, who didn't look the least bit afraid. While not intelligent enough to be truly sentient, the troll did have enough sense to know that its prey should be running. And the fact that it was just calmly standing there, staring at it, only angered it further. With a final roar, the forest troll charged forward. It balled up a massive fist, and swung straight for Kiana. Kiana swung her own fist, the two colliding.
There was a very loud, sickening crunch and pop. The bandits looked down in shock and horror as where the now screaming troll's fist and forearm had been, there was a bloody and jagged stump that ended just above the right elbow. The troll screeched and lunged at Kiana, hoping to impale her on its horns. But the bunny girl simply kicked, knocking the head clean off the rest of its body. The head bounced off a tree and rolled for a bit, settling in the dirt, a look of surprise on the stump-like face. The rest of the body tumbled over three times before coming to a rest near the make-shift stables, where the carriages and horses of the abducted nobles were kept. Kiana looked back up at the fort, making the majority of the bandits shrink back and shudder. A few of them began to wave white tablecloths hastily tied to sticks and tree branches.
A short time later the bandits, now in shackles, were being marched to the mechanical cart as the local sheriff and his deputies led them. Except for the severely injured ones, who were shackled to stretchers and loaded up into a seperate mechanical carriage. Kiana looked on as bodies were checked for possible survivors, there being very few to find, as the merchants and a few nobles were led by deputies out from the fort. Kiana smiled at them and nodded to their looks of awe, some of them having gotten a good look at the show of force the petite bunny girl had demonstrated. Ignoring the ones who shrank back away from her in fright, Kiana spotted the sheriff, a large older man in his mid-fifties with salt and pepper close-cropped hair and a matching mustache. He was wearing the classic green cloak, directing his deputies. He turned to face her as she approached.
"I think that's all cleared up," Kiana said, her voice chipper, belaying the fact she had a smattering of blood and gore staining her fur.
"I'd have to agree with you, young lady," Sheriff Tonsol said, his voice even. In truth, he had tried to avoid enlisting the aid of any adventurers until pressure from various merchants and nobility forced his hand. And even then he had expected it to involve a large party and, more than likely, some lives lost from the hostages. He was a little surprised when the girl reached into her satchel to produce a clipboard with a form on it, as well as an ink pen.
"In that case, would you mind signing this form indicating that I completed the job satisfactorily?" Tonsol looked at the form for a minute, and then his mouth curved upwards. He let out a chuckle and signed his name on the indicated line, writing in the date as well.
"Satisfactorily is putting it lightly, miss," he said, handing the clipboard and pen back to the bunny girl. "I had no idea that they had a forest troll in their possession. I went ahead and bumped up the reward."
"Oh wow, thank you, sir!" Kiana said, looking excited.
Tonsol smiled, something his deputies claimed to be a rare sight to behold. "Well, you earned it. I'm just glad you were able to get them to surrender without harming any hostages. Well, without them harming any more than the ones they did last time someone came out here to free them."
"I'm glad I could help!" Kiana said, bowing a little. "Now, I'm going to head back into town." She spread her arms wide and indicated to herself. "I'm really in need of a bath at this point."
"If you don't mind waiting a minute, you can ride back to town with us. It's faster than walking."
"Oh, thanks for the offer, but I'm good." Kiana waved, before jogging back to where she'd left her tetsubo and pack, Mirabelle coiled around it protectively. She grabbed the items up, quickly looking through the travel pack to make sure she still had everything, and nodded to herself, satisfied. She slipped the pack onto her back, then scooped her pet snake into her arms, and started to jog down the road in the direction of the town of Hengecliffe. Picking up speed, she rapidly became a blur, and in just a few seconds she was coming to a sliding stop in front of the town gates, startling a couple of bored-looking guards.
She greeted them and let Mirabelle down before they let her inside. They stared at the snake with the big pink ribbon around its neck slithering obediently behind the bunny girl. She stopped off at the local guild hall to drop off the signed paperwork and collect her now even heftier reward. She noticed a few stares in her general direction, and some unhappy grumbling from some fellow adventurers, but otherwise no one said anything.
Kiana then headed to the town inn where she still had a room for another night. Thankful again that this world had indoor plumbing, with hot water to boot, Kiana wasted no time in stripping off her gore-coated clothes, which she would wash in the laundry room down the hall, and enjoyed a nice steamy shower. She didn't have to worry about possible intruders, as Mirabelle sat coiled on the bed, ever vigilant.
"Today was a good day," Kiana said, stepping out of the shower and drying herself off, a feat that took several minutes with a towel. This left her gray and white fur all fluffed-out, which led to her brushing it out. Kiana had grown accustomed to the care and maintenance of her fur, taking pride in keeping it clean. She then donned her underwear and a cream-colored sundress from her pack, carefully putting her dirty clothes in the laundry sack in her pack. She smiled and stroked Mirabelle's head, the snake letting out a contented purr-like hiss.
"I'm going to go out and enjoy the rest of the afternoon in town. You stay here and guard the pack, okay?" she asked, slipping her mithril knuckles into her dress pockets, along with a small money pouch. Mirabelle hissed, thumping her tail on the bed in response, curling up tighter around Kiana's belongings.
"Good girl," she praised, before heading out, locking the door behind herself for good measure. Kiana smiled as she stepped out onto the paved sidewalk, carriages passing by on the street. Hengecliffe was much larger than Starlight Rose, with paved streets and even streetlights. Centrally located in a region of plains, it served as a trading hub. Kiana walked along, noticing a few men and women looking her over. Some seemed to do so with distaste, more than likely not enjoying the sight of a beasta. But most seemed to be pleasant people observing a new face.
"Well now, if my eyes are not deceiving me, it seems that an angel from the heavens has decided to grace us mere mortals with her presence." Kiana's ears twitched at the sound of the male voice. She paused and turned, looking down an alley, where a man leaning up against the side of a building stood, looking her over. He was wearing brown leather trousers, a white linen shirt, and a belt with a large buckle which, matching the large buckles on his boots, made him look a bit like a pirate. The goatee and the cutlass sheathed at his side were also not helping.
"Hello, beautiful," he said, giving Kiana a wink. Kiana rolled her eyes, and moved to keep walking, only to find a squat bald man standing in her way, grinning sinisterly. Kiana checked behind herself and saw another man, a larger one with a completely shaved head, arms crossed with a club under one arm. "Now, how about we all go somewhere more... private," the pirate-looking moron asked, giving Kiana a smug wink.
"Wow, you idiots have no idea just how badly you messed up," Kiana said, walking into the alley, the two guys following right behind her. The men chuckled. Passersby stopped when they heard three loud thuds coming from the alley, all of which made the nearby buildings shudder. They saw a bunny beasta girl walking out, brushing some dust off her sundress. She smiled and waved and continued on her way, leaving behind three broken figures. Two were lying in craters in the pavement of the alley, while the third, this one with a cutlass laying at his booted feet, was standing... his head laying all the way back in a hole in the brick wall right behind him.
Later that evening...
Kiana was sitting just outside the town walls on a hill, watching the stars come out. After sixteen years, it still mystified her to look up at the night sky, and not see any of the old constellations. She smiled as a shooting star streaked its way across the sky. Suddenly, Kiana felt a surge of energy just course through her. Her eyes faintly started to glow with the blue light, and she felt a strange pulsing in her chest. Looking around, she felt a strange magnetic pull coming from the south.
Starting as a jog, Kiana soon found herself sprinting outright across the countryside. She ran, as a blur, following the pull, her eyes gradually glowing brighter and brighter, shining with the crackling blue energy. Then, she came to a stop. She stood at the foot of a mountain, itself part of a larger range. Looking up at the mass of rock and ice, she could see broiling clouds up over it, flashes of lightning briefly illuminating the rocky and snowy peaks. With one such flash, Kiana saw something move. Something big. Kiana's glowing eyes went wide.
"Oh wooooooooow," she said, her jaw hanging open. There were rumbles as the giant coiled mass shifted. Several avalanches were caused by the serpentine body, buried under tons and tons of snow. At the very peak of the mountain, a gargantuan head rose.
"Is that a giant... cobra?" Kiana asked under her breath. Indeed, that was what the creature that seemed to dwarf the Spire appeared to be. In the light of the lightning, she saw that its scales were a deep blue, almost purple. There were stripes running down its back, but they were glowing a bright bioluminescent blue. That same glow radiated from the creature's reptilian eyes, and the inside of its hood. The same glowing blue as Kiana's eyes.
"What... are you?" Kiana asked, quietly.
I can ask the same of you, little one, a deep female voice hissed in Kiana's head. She winced and looked around. She then looked back up at the creature, her veins flooded with adrenaline. There was another flash of lightning, and in that very instant, the creature's head was bent down low, right in front of her. Kiana almost jumped back, but stopped herself. As the snake-entity looked her over with an eye that was twice as tall as she was, Kiana felt a sense of calm overtake her.
"Are you... a storm dragon? A real storm dragon?" Kiana asked, reaching out and touching the creature's cheek with her hand. It flicked out a blood red tongue, its mouth curling up a little at the corners.
That is something that little ones like to call my kind, she said. Kiana figured right then and there that this was a female.
"A monk said that... my spirit is like one of yours," Kiana said, breathlessly.
Your soulsong feels similar to one of our kind, little one, she said, turning her head and gently nuzzling the top of Kiana's head, making her ears lay flat. The storm dragon's head was almost as large as the entirety of her hometown.
"My... soulsong?" Kiana asked. The monk she had met hadn't said anything about them.
The song of your innermost being. It stands out from the loud and noisy cacophony that happens when most little ones gather together in large groups. Yours is beautiful, and a little... fluttery. The dragon gave her a wink. She reared up and opened her mouth. Electricity danced between the dragon's fangs, before she shot out a sonic boom. The raging storm above abated, the clouds dispersing, leaving only a crystal clear night sky for miles and miles around. She then turned and looked down at Kiana. The bunny girl felt the storm dragon's gaze. She felt a radiating warmth coming from her. It reminded Kiana of her mother.
It was so nice to meet you, little one. It was quite the pleasant surprise to awaken to. She let out a proud roar, and her body began to undulate. Sections of the mountain range began to crumble as large sections of mountain were crushed and smashed by the body slamming into them. The body of the dragon rose into the air, beginning to gracefully slither about. Levitating there, partially coiled, the sheer size of the storm dragon just boggled the bunny girl's mind.
"Will I see you again?" Kiana asked, feeling a little sad. She had just met this beautiful and amazing being, and already they were leaving.
Of course, little one, the mental voice in her mind chuckled warmly.
I have listened to your beautiful soulsong, and I have shared my soulsong with you.
"I... I don't understand what that means," Kiana said, confused.
You will, little one, she said,
you are still young, but my soulsong has resonated within you. When you stop and listen, it will become easier and easier to hear it. And thus, the bond has begun to form. In time, you shall understand. With a flick of the creature's tail, there was a flash of lightning that radiated from within the hood, and she was gone. Kiana stood there, her eyes readjusting to the dark.
"This world is so awesome," she said, a smile on her face, as she began to job back towards town. She figured that if the town gates were closed and locked, she could just jump over the wall.
Meanwhile...
The lone figure stood in the dark, staring at where the great serpent had been levitating. They were sitting on a log in a small clearing, where they had set up camp. The individual in question was polishing their armor when a gray blur had shot right past them. And then, where it had been heading, the giant serpent, an actual storm dragon, arose. They sat there in stunned silence. They knew right then and there, that it had been a sign from the gods. As they unsheathed their katana, it began to thrum with magical energy, the blade becoming engulfed in bright purple flames.
The light of the purple flames illuminated his green face, glinting off his polished tusks. "Soon, the war shall begin," said the orc, sheathing the blade and cutting off its purple light. The same purple light shone from his eyes.

2023.06.06 03:35 ZethGonk [PC, web-based/flash] [mid to late 2000s] robot gladiators arena game
Platform(s): PC, only web-based
Genre: Action, vehicular combat-like
Estimated year of release: probably between 2006-2010
Graphics/art style: character models and terrain had shiny metallic textures, very high quality for the flash games era, possibly ran on Unity due to the graphics quality
Notable characters: the dark red robot with yellow eyes and a flail, had a head, torso and arms but two wheels instead of legs, and its design was based on European medieval era armor (I think)
Notable gameplay mechanics: choosing a character and beating the shit out of each other in the arena (I think there were cool particles and effects for destroying the other robots)
Other details: it's a 3D game, it had a third person view (from behind the characters), the camera angle was kind of weird, and maybe you could customize the robots? I'm not sure
I'm looking for a game that I played on minijuegos.com more than 10 years ago, but I suppose it could be found on other sites at the time. I loved it as a kid but somehow never memorized the name. It was about a gladiator arena where you control a robot that used wheels as locomotion and you had to fight the other robots. It had nice graphics for its time and the characters were flashy and cool in their designs, but kind of edgy, like Bionicle. The character I remember the most had yellow eyes, its skin (or whatever its called for a robot) was dark metallic red and used a flail as a weapon. I've been looking this game like crazy for years and I'm really hoping to find it, so I made a beautiful illustration of the red dude for you to see:
my mona lisa (the things on the wheels are spikes btw)
There were other color based characters like green and yellow but I don't remember them much. I believe the red guy was in the cover if that helps.
I found these two images on google for reference:
this knight is very similar but he has legs and this illustration wasn't made in the art style of the game
this other murder machine thing is more closely related to the characters of the game I'm trying to find, but look at the wheels, that's the most important aspect of this thing
And that's it. I'd be really super grateful of anyone that helps me find this game :)

2023.06.06 03:33 TurboGhast Doubled Elimination Chapter 8: Round 1, Match 5
Chapter 7 The Connected and Outgoer Teams flew up to the arena in unintentional unison.
Upon reaching her starting point, Konngara told Saki, “I’m in the tournament to fight new opponents, but face you in the first round. How ironic.”
“It’s been a while since we’ve tested our mettle against eachother… but I get the feeling”, Saki replied. Turning to draw their teammates into the conversation, she continued, “Do y’all agree to keep our fighting one-on-one, me versus Yukiko and Konngara versus Alice, until the first time someone leaves the arena?”
Alice’s answer was “Sure”, Yukiko’s was a loud “YES!”, and Konngara’s was a simple affirmative nod of the head and change of starting position.
Patchouli said, “I hope you’re not asking me to enforce this.”
Konngara replied, “No, I trust my opponents to follow the informal rule. Just announce the first time someone leaves the arena.”
“With that sorted out, you seem to be ready…
so Round 1 Match 5 will begin!”
Instead of opening with especially powerful attacks, all four fighters started off with light ones to get a feel for their opponent’s strength. Yukiko tried to surround Saki with homing bee-shaped bullets, but she outsped them. However, Yukiko was firing frequently enough that Saki couldn’t find an opening to land a flying kick. Since she couldn’t use her nonspell danmaku because it was so wild and wide ranging it’d be sure to reach Konngara, this half of the battle became a stalemate.
Konngara’s blade cut a path towards Alice, deflecting both her lasers and her doll’s lances. One glance at her teammate showed Alice that the way they were keeping these battles one-on-one was giving the Outgoer Team an advantage, so as she fell back she started thinking about how to change that. Recalling a technique she had last used over two decades ago gave her a plan. She sent four dolls to the arena’s center, then made them spread out, creating a glowing curtain between them that split the arena in half while expanding past its circumference.
“With this barrier in place, we’re all feel free to fire imprecise attacks without worrying about hitting our other opponent”, she told everyone.
Saki began unleashing omnidirectional waves of bullets while telling Konngara, “If this hits you, that’s on Alice.”
Yukiko successfully weaved through the initial blast, while Konngara backed off a bit to deal with the spread attacks Alice had started using. When their bullets hit the curtain, they bounced off. As the Connected Team kept firing, reflected bullets joined unreflected bullets to create bullet waves dense enough to score hits.
“Hey, we’re supposed to be keeping things one-on-one!”, Yukiko complained.
“The curtain will reflect your bullets just as readily as ours”, Alice replied, “so it’s just a change in the terrain.”
Yukiko tested Alice’s words with a blast of bullets that would hit her if she was lying. She didn’t attempt to dodge them to emphasize that she was telling the truth.
“You found a way to help your teammate while making our agreement easier to follow”, said Konngara. “How clever.”
“And annoying”, Yukiko added.
As the fighting continued, Saki and Alice kept the pressure on Yukiko and Konngara up. The former’s spread attacks showed that they wanted to damage the latter more than they wanted to push them out of the arena at the moment. Recognizing this, Yukiko unleashed the spell card
Reformation "Flying Bee Fortress”.
A barrier made of bee bullets appeared, and blocked Saki’s attacks. She tried to break it with brute force, but before any of the bullets showed signs of damage they expanded outwards to be replaced with a fresh set. Since the gaps between the bees were covered by kunai shaped bullets, Saki stopped trying to slip a bullet through them, but kept firing so the pressure that brought Yukiko to use the card would return the moment it ended.
Even though she was also on the back foot, Konngara was having an easier time than her teammate. Trading attacks with Alice had shown her what Yukiko was trying to tell her about where in the arena was safest. The two of them weren’t taking hits, but Konngara had to stay close to the curtain to keep that true, as the reflected bullets were less dangerous there.
Seeing an opportunity, Alice readied the spell card
Doll Command “Dolls’ War”. Because Konngara was keeping herself in a box near the curtain, predicting where she’d be next was much easier than usual. When Alice unleashed the card, the evasive maneuvers Konngara was performing brought her right into its center.
She suddenly found herself surrounded by two rings of dolls with swords at the ready. Despite recognizing that she was in a lot of trouble, since battles using the spell card rules were less common in Hell than Gensokyo her first instinct was to block one blade with her sword instead of using a defensive card, leaving herself open to the rest of the attack.
Seeing that the flow of battle had turned against the Outgoer Team, Wriggle said, “If I was Yukiko I’d be considering flying around the curtain to help Konngara.“
“I doubt even she would ignore the spirit of their agreement”, Tenshi replied. “Even if she was craven enough to consider it, flagrantly breaking a promise in front of this large a crowd might as well be etching a scar into your face.”
“Then, did they doom themselves to lose?”
“No.”
Recognizing the battle’s current pace, Konngara suddenly flipped from defense to offense by declaring
Wisdom Sign “Silent Power”. Since speaking to coordinate with her teammate would unnecessary for the near future, now was a particularly good time to use the card. Even though the card didn’t improve her defenses, she fought like it had, letting her push Alice back but taking preventable hits in the process.
When a particularly intense blast of bullets forced Alice to either dodge backwards or take a hit, she did the latter.
“I see what you’re trying to do here”, Alice taunted, “and won’t let it work.”
Confident in Konngara’s ability to ring her teammate out, even if only temporarily, Saki decided to accelerate the pace of her battle against Yukiko with the spell card
Agile Skill “Triangle Chase”. She kicked straight for Yukiko multiple times, leaving lines of still bullets that stopped at the edge and curtain just like she did.
However, that allowed Yukiko to lead her where she wanted her to go. The moment after Saki declared the card, she rushed to where the curtain met the arena’s edge. When Saki followed, Yukiko made one large step inwards, advancing to the center one kick at a time. This left enough space open that Saki neither scored a hit nor prevented a counterattack when she made the bullet trails expand.
Yukiko taunted, “This isn’t the only card Konngara taught me a route for. ”
“A sly move, but I should’a seen it coming”, Saki muttered.
Kikyou asked Jo’on, “Do you think either Saki or Konngara could be convinced to give us routes for the other’s attacks?”
“No, since they have no reason to help us. We’ll just have to hope their routes can be copied by simply watching them.”
On the other side of the arena, Konngara was getting a little desperate to send Alice past the edge for just one moment so she could rejoin her teammate. Alice was drifting towards the edge, but the dolls orbiting her from a distance showed that was bait to try and lure Konngara into overextending, and punish her for it.
Konngara paused for a moment, thinking about how to defuse this trap. She decided on sending pulses of bullets at the dolls to deflect them while rushing forward. There were less risky answers, but Konngara chose that one because it had the best chance of sending Alice out of the arena.
She rushed forwards, blasting most of the dolls aside with bullets, but there were too many. Eventually, she had to halt her attack in order to deflect a lance with her sword, giving Alice time to retreat. Neither had taken an outright hit, but Konngara had used up more stamina in the exchange.
While Saki pondered whether to cancel her card or unleash another wave, Yukiko said, “I was nervous that I’d mess up the route because Konngara showed it to me without copying your card.”
Yukiko’s words made Saki keep the card running. If she couldn’t hit her hard enough to break the card despite creating the perfect opening, then why not test her consistency at a route she’s admitted to not practicing?
Even though Yukiko wasn’t aware Saki was asking herself that question, she had an answer to it. When Saki reached the edge to kick off of it, Yukiko sent a
*World Egg Honeycomb* straight for her, sending her past it.
Patchouli announced to Konngara and Alice that “Saki was knocked out of the arena”, prompting an immediate change in strategy. Konngara abandoned her attack and turned her blade towards the curtain separating the arena. Alice tried to pin her down, but the change was so sudden the only attacks that got close to her were long range bullets that couldn’t stop her from slicing the curtain in half.
Konngara allowed
Wisdom Sign “Silent Power” to time out so the Outgoer Team could unleash
Hell Pheromone “Persistent Tracer” the moment they regrouped. Four streams of homing bullets flew towards the Connected Team, one of bee-shaped bullets and one of crystals for each member.
Recognizing the crystals Konngara fired, Saki told her teammate, “We need to split up.” While the bee-shaped bullets whizzed past them like any other, the crystals stuck in place once approximately level with their target. A trail of stopped crystals traced out the path they used to evade the bees.
As the circle that trail made became more and more complete, the Connected Team realized they needed to restream the bullets chasing them before it became whole so they could stay away from the crystals aimed at their teammate. Rushing forward to make an opening, they turned around with only a little space to spare.
Saki doubled back into the crystals in order to enter her opening, going so fast that she slammed into a crystal. Alice flew towards the edge to separate the crystals and bees to avoid that, only to find that allowed the bees’ homing capabilities to begin closing the gap she had opened. By the time the gap reached her, it had gotten so tight she felt the need to use
Magic Sign “Artful Sacrifice” to widen it.
“That restream looks more gnarled than a starving philosopher”, said Nezu.
“I’ve tried a gnarlier restream”, Seija replied. “Didn’t succeed, but I tried.”
Saki’s face lit up when halfway around the arena. “Oh, that’s devious!” Calling out to her teammate, she continued, “This spell’s designed to separate us by becoming extra dangerous when we’re close together.”
“Can you think of a way around it?”, Alice asked.
Saki answered, “The card’s not especially dense, so…”, letting her voice trail off to try and hide her message from her opponents. Alice brandished a spell card to tell her that she got the message.
The next time they met, instead of attempting to restream they declared,
“Agile Wire ’Thrill Magnet’!” Dolls rushed forth, splitting the arena into lanes divided by wires. Saki paused for a moment to check whether an opponent had been caught by the wires, but when the inwards pull that would follow that contact failed to happen she started loosing fireballs into the lanes.
Upon hearing the attack’s name, the Outgoer Team had spread out. As the spell developed, it became clear this was the right move. The lanes between the wires were tight enough that they might have collided with eachother if they were in the same one, but spreading out gave both Yukiko and Konngara their own lane.
Yukiko yelled, “Now that you’ve drawn yourselves together, you’re finished!”
“Don’t get cocky”, Konngara chided.
Trying to bait information out of Yukiko, Saki began to ask, “How’d you know we-”, but was interrupted by a bee bullet.
Seeing an opportunity, Yukiko told her, “Well, when you tried to tell Alice to use a team card in earshot of us, you deliberately failed to complete a sentence in an attempt to hide your plans from us. However, Konngara knows you well enough that she could see through your attempt to send a hidden message, allowing her to tell me you were about to use a team card. Now, she also knows your card design well enough tha-”
“Shut up! I’m trying to fight here!”, Alice interrupted.
Yukiko continued, “I’m talking ‘cause we’re fighting, silly. Since we have the advantage, we have less to lose from getting distracted. If we get hit it’ll just end our card, but you might…”
Saki attempted to interrupt her with a wave of fireballs, but went too far out and ate some hits from Yukiko’s bees, leading to the result the latter wanted.
“…end up outside the arena.”
Without Saki’s support, Alice was stuck in place maintaining the card’s wire lanes. By the time she thought to cancel the card, it was already too late. A bee bullet launched her into one of the still crystals, causing her to bounce off and join her teammate beyond the arena’s edge.
“And the winner of Round 1 Match 5 is the Outgoer Team!”
Turning to Yukiko, Saki said, “That was slick. Good job, you’re more devious than you look.”
Alice acknowledged her defeat with painfully slow claps instead of words.
Giddy with pride, Yukiko replied, “Thank you thank you thank you!”
“Even if it wasn’t alone, fighting you takes me back”, said Saki.
“We should have caught up with eachother earlier”, replied Konngara.

2023.06.06 03:30 TarotLessTraveled The Abandoned Papesse (repost)
Starting from the left: 1st, Nicolas Conver preserved in la Bibliothèque nationale de France; 2nd, Nicolas Conver from Phillipe Camoin’s private collection, printed from the 1760 plates in the late 1800s, so after a century of wear; 3rd, the Conver-Ben-Dov restoration (2010); 4th, the 2019 Anna Maria Morsucci Marseille Tarot La Papesse is probably the most difficult of all the TdM trumps to talk about, so over the years, people writing commentaries and revamping historic decks have discovered all kinds of creative ways to not talk about the image or subtly (or not so subtly) rework it to bring her into alignment with what they want her to be. Alejandro Jodorowsky, as an example of the not-so-subtle, gives her an egg to hatch and claims this to be the restoration of a detail lost to the inevitable corruptions of time. His student, Yoav Ben-Dov, lands on the more subtle side: although his card
appears to be an exact reproduction of the Nicholas Conver, Ben-Dov makes the slightest alteration at the corners of her mouth, so she appears to be smiling. He also gives her a more human appearance by adding a bit of color to her face – warming her up, so to speak.
Ben-Dov does not explain these modifications in his book
The Open Reading; he does say in his introduction, “The CBD Tarot de Marseille [is] an edition of the cards that I restored from the most influential historical deck originally published by Nicolas Conver in 1760.”
It may seem like a small thing; however, it changes the way we respond to the figure on a subconscious level. Though Conver did not have the technology available in 2010, when the CBD deck was published, he did have the ability to add flesh tones to his decks. While the Popess’s face is white, her hands are flesh-toned; further, the woman in the 17th arcanum,
Le Toille, is flesh-colored, as is le Diable and the world dancer in
XXI Le Monde. In
XX Le Jugement, the figure rising from the dead is bluish, but the man and woman kneeling in prayer by the coffin are flesh-colored, as is one of the dogs in
La Lune and the two children in
Le Soleil. We can only conclude that the choice of a white face was by design and not due to practical considerations, and Conver’s choice was in keeping with the tradition begun by Noblet, Dodal, and Madenié. The only historical TdM type-I or type-II deck I am aware of that shows la Papesse with a flesh-colored face is the 1736 Francois Chosson (though he does not have her smiling).
The CBD Popess is more relatable and approachable than her counterpart in the 2019 Morsucci TdM, also based upon Conver, allowing Ben-Dov to present her as a kind of guardian of secrets, a modernized Sophia. When her face is white, however, she appears drained of warmth, passion, life.
Other figures in the parade of trumps also have white faces, but they do not appear as lifeless as
la Papesse;
le Bateleur, for instance, is engaged in his performance;
le Pape is teaching or giving a sermon;
l’Hermite is seeking truth; the charioteer is preparing for a journey.
La Papesse has an open book on her lap, but she is not absorbed in reading it: the card captures her in a moment of inattention. Some construe this as meditation, and it is possible, though her white face and her lack of expression seem to belie this interpretation.
Everything about her is suggestive of oppression: she is cloistered, presumably alone; her heavy robes hide every trace of her feminine nature (only her face and hands are visible); not a strand of hair escapes her wimple; and a quick Google search for how much her papal tiara weighs yields a result of 18 lbs.
Le Pape, arcanum V, wears the same crown, but in that card, he is acting in his role as Pope; the three-tiered crown is a symbol of his office, so we understand why he has it on. (We can also imagine he removes it the moment he is alone.) Since there does not seem to be a reason for
la Papesse to subject herself to its weight when she is by herself, reading a book; we might reasonable conclude that its presence is symbolic of a ponderous burden.
Ben-Dov writes, “The title band at the top of the card is exceptionally narrow, which makes the tip of the Popess’ tiara extend high when compared to other cards. This may indicate a higher kind of wisdom or intuition from a sublime source.” It is an attractive inference, though I wonder whether he would have thought it had he been forced to wear an 18 lb. weight on his head for a lengthy period of time beforehand.
Ben-Dov makes a connection to Sophia; other commentaries associate
La Papesse to other deities that make even less sense. Alice Ekrek writes in the guide packaged with her 2020 TdM, “The High Priestess is also described as the veiled Isis. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, she is seated between two pillars which represent the great universal principles and mark the entrance to the great temple…” She evokes Isis not because anything in her card stimulated the association but because she has no interest in
La Papesse whatsoever and does not even try to hide the fact and defaults to the Waite-Smith card; she even calls her TdM figure
The High Priestess, and she is not alone in making this connection. Sallie Nichols writes in
Jung and Tarot:
“Although she is called the Popess, she is not literally the pope’s wife. Since, in sequence, she follows the Magician, who is a priestly wise man, or magus, we may think of her as a High Priestess, which is what she is actually called in some of the modern decks. The Magician represents the primary yang, or masculine creative principle. The Popess can be seen to symbolize the primary yin, or feminine aspect of the godhead. She embodies the qualities of Isis, Ishtar, and Astarte, all goddesses who reigned over the rituals of women’s mysteries. In her spiritualized aspects she appears as the Virgin Mary and as Sophia, Divine Wisdom. Her number two is a number sacred to all female deities.”
It is baffling. Isis is most frequently depicted as a young mother suckling her infant son Horus, but she is in many other images portrayed as a winged goddess. If
la Papesse was ever a mother, that identity has long since been left behind; she does not have wings, nor can we imagine her escaping the bonds of gravity and soaring through the heavens. Ishtar is a spirited goddess, associated with love and war; we see her standing upon a lion in one ancient representation; with her white face and lack of expression, la Papesse appears void of passion. Astarte displays her naked breasts, for she is a goddess of fertility;
la Papesse denies her carnal nature by submerging herself in her papal robes.
Isis wall painting in the tomb of Seti Isis left and Nephthys right as kites attending mummy 13th century BCE There was a time when feminine deities were powerful and vital; they would not recognize the Popess as one of their own. The patriarchal religions have all but eliminated feminine spirit from their orders; what little remains is sexless, joyless, anemic.
Ishtar and La Papesse from Marteau deck preserved at Yale (deck Nichols was using) La Papesse is one of the two saddest cards in the Tarot de Marseille parade of trumps. The other is
Le Mat, the mad man who wanders not because he has a deep desire to see the world, but because the world has moved on without him, and he has no place in it. He is dressed as a court jester, a position that had been all but eliminated during the period when the Tarot de Marseille imagery was being developed. The skills that had served him so well for centuries were no longer desired as Europe moved through the final years of the Renaissance, except in a few courts, primarily in Russia, Spain, and Germany. We see some of the Fool’s sadness in Shakespeare’s
King Lear, and though the play itself supposedly took place sometimes around the 8th century B. C., the end of the tradition was at hand in Shakespeare’s England; it pervaded the collective psyche and Shakespeare’s writing.
La Papesse never had a place. There was a never a time when she would have been accepted in the Catholic Church. There was a popular legend about a Pope Joan – a woman who disguised herself as a man in order to become a priest and then move up through the Church’s hierarchy to occupy the pope’s throne: predictably, it did not end up well for her. I imagine the tale appealed to people’s sense of the absurd, particularly in juxtaposition to such a serious and powerful institution as the Catholic Church The tale is well-known and mentioned in many commentaries, as is the story of the very real Manfreda Visconti, pictured in the second trump of the Visconti-Sforza deck (c. 1492). For a more comprehensive treatment, I recommend Michael S. Howard’s blog:
https://tarotchristianbasis.blogspot.com/2016/11/popesshigh-priestess.html But all this deflects from the card before us represents a poignant melancholy. It is an unpleasant reminder that the realities of life, often, fail to meet our aspirations. This realization leaves us feeling deflated, wondering what meaning is left for us to discover; it is little wonder that we have tried to leave la Papesse behind. Waite and Smith de-aged her, gave her robes of flowing water, replaced her papal tiara with the cow’s horns and sun disk of Hathor, put the crescent moon at her feet, and named her
The High Priestess, making her divorce from the Church final. Crowley once again bares her breasts that she might reclaim her original power; Robin Wood puts her, a young woman with long, flowing black hair, outdoors in a clearing on the night of the full moon with a crystal ball in her hand.
High Priestess from Waite-Smith (left); Allister Crowley's Thoth deck (center); Robin Wood tarot (right) Perhaps this evolution was inevitable and necessary, yet it is not part of Tarot de Marseille tradition and wanting it to be will not make it so. The Popess illustrates the feeling of being trapped in an inauthentic life which most, if not all, people experience at some point in their lives. It is not pleasant, but it is entirely human.

2023.06.06 03:19 DONT_PM_MEH_PLEES Superluminal
I posted this years ago and hated it so I deleted it.. I have since revised it several times and now I think it's ready. I finally have time to continue writing so please let me know what you think, especially if you don't like it and what you didn't like about it
Boab'shek sighed as he opened his eyes, taking a moment to wake before he swam lazily out of his resting tunnel. Not particularly excited for another grueling [day] slogging through anomaly reports, he slowly closed his eyes and steeled himself as he had done every morning for the last [13 years]. He had 35 mouths to feed, and the bills weren’t going to pay themselves. After a quick breakfast at the grub farm, and feeling much better for it, he began swimming towards the work module.
The station, of which he was the sole occupant, hung motionless in empty space. Positioned near the top of the Galactic disc, it had a direct line of sight to each of the many observation outposts which it serviced. Tight-beam receivers dotted the "bottom" of the gangly-looking station, pointed in seemingly random directions forming a tangled mess of structural supports and antennae, though they were all precisely oriented to receive the incoming data streams.
Some of the more densely populated sectors of the Galaxy had entangled communicators at each of the observation outposts, providing near real-time updates of the goings-on to the Trade Coalition, but so many communicators were obscenely expensive to operate. Out here, near the rim of the Galaxy, there was simply not enough revenue from hyperspace tolls to support real-time obstacle charting. On the other hand, there were not enough hyperspace travelers to necessitate it either. Infrastructure was upgraded as needed, and tolls were adjusted to cover the cost.
And so it was Boab'shek's job to monitor the findings of the outposts as they were beamed to his station, albeit after a substantial light-speed delay, and report to the Coalition anything worth reporting through his station's entangled communicator. A soul-crushingly boring job, as far as he was concerned, but well-paid and not too physically demanding; which he appreciated. He swam his way through the long corridor into the work module, nesting comfortably into the saddle and engaging his dexterous prehensile whiskers with the computer controls. The two screens lit up simultaneously, one for either eye, and he began scrolling through the anomaly reports that had come in while he was asleep.
An odd glint was reported from outpost HX-253. The optical feed showed an empty patch of space flash once, nothing spectacular but unexpected nonetheless. He instructed the computer to calculate and overlay the position of other observation outposts over the video. Unsurprisingly, it showed a different outpost located right where the flashing originated from. A reflection from the waste-heat radiator panels, he surmised. He added a rule to the filter to ignore anomalies originating from outpost locations. No need to waste time on one of these anomalies in the future, should it occur again.
Outpost HT-628 reported a celestial collision. A rare occurrence in his sector, he excitedly pulled up the video feed and observed as a neutron star orbited a dark swallower closer and closer, spiraling inwards as its energy was sapped out of the system by ever-increasing gravitational disturbance. It circled faster and faster as it approached and finally was pulled apart, becoming a bright streak and then a ring around the swallower, shining brightly as it was accreted. The sinusoidal readout from the interferometer of the outpost showed the gravitational waves increase exponentially in intensity and then drop off as if nothing had happened. More and more of the star was pulled in and suddenly the system went dark again, as the last of the star was unceremoniously slurped up by the swallower. Beautiful, he thought. Such a privilege it was to observe the natural cycle of the universe. He lived for these moments.
He approved the automatic suggested update to the star charts and scrolled onto the next report. HU-808 reported an unknown disturbance. An unusual gravimetric reading as well as unidentified fast-moving object. Boab’shek stared at the report listing. An odd designation, he couldn’t recall if he had ever seen this class of anomaly in all his [years] working for the Coalition. He pulled up the video feed and gravity readings, flaring his fins in surprise at the length of the video report; the reflexive motion causing him to lurch backwards. The duration of the video was just over [1.7 years]. Why had the outpost taken so long to report such a disturbance?
He started at the beginning and watched as the time-compressed video showed a light appearing from nowhere, approximately [8.3 light-minutes] from a single ordinary, stable star. With his other eye he looked at the star map of the area. The light was hundreds of light years from the nearest hyperspace waypoint. Nobody would be crazy enough to travel that far from a waypoint, he thought, being forced to travel at a ridiculously unsafe speed while in cold-sleep, quite possibly exceeding the safe duration for hibernation even then.
It must be natural in origin, then, though he had never heard of such an object. Puzzled, he watched as the light gradually increased in intensity and started moving, traveling in a straight line towards a nearby trinary star system at an ever-increasing rate of speed. The light, becoming ever-brighter, shone a brilliant white as its velocity continued to increase. His jaws hung open in disbelief as a bright cone appeared to the sides and around the light, resembling a bow shock wave like the ones that trailed behind the high speed transports that sailed above the oceans on his home planet. He checked the spectrometer, unbelieving as the range displayed full-spectrum emission with increasing UV, X-ray, even gamma emissions!
The conical bow-shock became more and more acute in angle as the light shone brighter and gained momentum. It closed the distance between the star systems impossibly quickly, and when it had almost reached the nearest red dwarf in the trinary system almost all at once it slowed as the luminosity peaked and it appeared to explode. A beam of plasma erupted from the source of the light, apparently traveling near light speed, and expanded as it left the source where it had stopped, a short distance from the red dwarf. The gravimetric reading reported an error. He managed to peel his eye away from the video feed and defecated in shock as he observed the chart. It was flat and steady as it should be, up until it immediately spiked straight up and off the chart.
Glad for the filtration intake below his saddle, Boab'shek observed as the reading abruptly ended reporting calibration error, and possible damage to the interferometer. The outpost had apparently not thought much of the disturbance up until the gravimetric reading was observed, at which point it had flagged the anomaly for reporting. Never had he heard of anything like this. He contemplated for a moment on what this object could possibly be, until he had a sudden idea. Frantically mashing the controls with his whiskers, he instructed the computer to calculate the distance the light had traveled. The computer overlaid the measured distance on the video feed. Approximately [4.25 light years]. Whiskers shaking, he looked again at the length of the recording. [1.7 years]. Whatever in the deep depths this thing was, it had traveled through real space at over twice the speed of light. Impossible, he thought.
Surely another outpost would refute these readings. He instructed the computer to show the live feed from HU-807, an outpost which was more distant to the anomaly. It would receive readings from the same anomaly, but with a calculated [8 month] delay compared to HU-808. On screen, there was the light shining proudly, already traveling faster than lightspeed. Boab'shek, still in denial, examined the spectrograph readings from this outpost more closely. It was then that he noticed the emission lines in the light signature. It showed prominent signatures for hydrogen, helium, beryllium, and oxygen. Undeniably the signature of an unshielded fusion reactor.
Frantically, he began writing an incident report. Under the subject field, he selected
UNIDENTIFIABLE TECHNOSIGNATURE. This was going straight to the top.
Excitement hung in the air aboard the UNES Hermes. After many years of preparation, the time for departure had finally arrived. In a matter of minutes, the colossal ship would engage its prototype ICEFIRE engine and leave its comfortable rectilinear halo orbit of the moon, where it had circled since the keel was laid so many years ago. The ship consisted of a massive cylindrical habitation drum, over a kilometer in diameter and five kilometers long, with an equally large spherical water tank forward tipped with the powerful thermal laser shield, and the behemoth of a drive cone bringing up the rear. The drum spun slowly, providing comfortable spin gravity to the civilian colonists, most of whom were sporting massive hangovers from the completion celebration the night before. Many of the passengers had been involved in the engineering, assembly, and calibration of various parts and components of the ship. Some had celebrated a job completed, others out of excitement, and some feared that it would be their last night. No expense had been spared in building or testing during the ships’ construction, and all assurances had been made that everything would go well, but nobody could deny that this ship was experimental.
The crew of the Hermes had long since gotten all of the festivious urges out of their systems, opting to celebrate the completion of the preparations before the colonists had arrived. Every system had been checked, double checked, and triple checked. Mission Commander Huxton stood in the center of the bridge and observed the buzzing commotion of the crew surrounding him, eyes fixed on their station monitors while calling out checkpoints into their headsets and to the surrounding operators.
One by one the operators fell silent as they completed their checklists and lifted their eyes to Commander Huxton, awaiting further orders. As the last operator reported "All systems go" into his headset, silence fell upon the bridge. Rehearsals had been performed. Speeches had been given. Goodbye messages had been sent. Diagnostics and checklists had been run through. Living wills written. It was finally time. Huxton stood silently for a moment, slowly scanning his eyes around the room. His face beamed with pride at the exceptional performance of his crew, tinged only by the apprehension for the coming danger.
Huxton broke the silence. "Comms! Open a channel to STC, mirror to the PA" he barked. A soft chime indicated that the microphones were listening. "Space Traffic Control, this is UNES Hermes. Requesting clearance for departure." His voice boomed throughout the ship, where every colonist and crew member was listening intently. Seconds later, his voice was heard by the crew of the STC, where silence reigned as every soul was glued to their monitors. A few moments later, their response was heard throughout the Hermes. A tinny voice crackled through the PA system, "UNES Hermes, this is Space Traffic Control. You are cleared for departure. Go bravely. Godspeed."
Huxton closed his eyes for a brief moment, savoring what could be his last breath. He opened his eyes. "Engineering, light it up!”

2023.06.06 03:08 Hazy-Bolognese Should r/wvmedicalcannabis join the blackout to support 3rd part apps on reddit?
Hey there,
wvmedicalcannabis community,
We hope this message finds you well.
By now, many of you may have heard about Reddit's recent decision to introduce API costs, a move that threatens the viability of many beloved 3rd party apps. This change, which affects popular apps like Apollo, Boost, and BaconReader, has sparked an uproar across Reddit, with numerous subreddits deciding to go "dark" or private in protest for two days.
These 3rd party apps have been a crucial part of the Reddit experience for many users. Here's why they are so important:
- User-Friendly Interface: Many users find the design and layout of 3rd party apps to be more user-friendly than the main Reddit platform. This enhances the user experience, making browsing, commenting, and engaging with content more enjoyable.
- Customizability: These apps often provide more customizable options in terms of layout, themes, and organization. Users can tailor their Reddit experience to their preferences, which is not always possible on the original platform.
- Offline Usage: Some apps allow for downloading of posts for offline viewing, a feature not available on Reddit's website or primary app.
- Notifications and Updates: 3rd party apps often provide more comprehensive or customizable notification systems, allowing users to stay up-to-date with their favorite subreddits and threads.
- Independence and Innovation: These apps are created by independent developers who constantly innovate and add new features. This competition encourages all platforms, including Reddit itself, to improve and evolve.
In response to this announcement from Reddit, a community-wide blackout is being organized across many subreddits to protest this change and express support for these 3rd party developers. We, the moderation team, have been debating whether to join this blackout and stand in solidarity with the wider Reddit community.
But as this is a community decision, we'd like your input on this matter. Do you think we should make
wvmedicalcannabis private for two days as part of this blackout? Your feedback is invaluable and will play a crucial role in our final decision.
We understand that this move may temporarily disrupt the flow of content and discussions in our subreddit, but it might also be a powerful statement in defending the principles of open internet and the value of these 3rd party apps.
Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below or via modmail if you prefer a more private channel.
Stay safe, stay informed.
Best,
wvmedicalcannabis Mod Team

I will copy and paste texts between me and my mom after a phone conversation with me telling her I am going on vacation with my bf of three years and his family who she doesn’t approve of because he is “not of my race,” “dark” “short” and “has tattoos” and “unattractive.” This conversation took place after I hung up on her from being so upset about what she was saying, which is nothing new btw, just the first time saying it about someone I actually see a future with. Someone please tell me if I am in the wrong because sometimes I feel so gaslit and brainwashed into thinking I am when I revert back to the small controlled child when I talk to her. I try to take everything I’ve learned from therapy and working in the mental health field but it seems to all go out the window when I speak with her. She said I am also acting immorally and cheap and sleazy for going on vacation with my bf and his family when I am not engaged. Advice please.
Her: There is never a conversation with you, it always ends up like this unfortunately. Dad needs to talk to you, since I am always he bad guy and accused of being from a different culture and racist, everyone has high expectations for their children, I just can't for some reason. If I didn't believe in you and held you at a higher regard, I wouldn't feel this way.
Me: Leave me alone, you never care about my happiness or love me unconditionally. It's always conditional on things that are superficial and wrong. I'm tired of it and you are pushing me away. This is the reason I am not answering your calls and don't want to talk and you're giving me panic attacks. You never care about my happiness with a partner or try to see past anything engrained in your mind. I don't want to talk to you for a long time so give me space. I space. I refuse to have partners name criticized in this way when he has done nothing but be respectful and loving and a good person.
Her: I love you that is why I care about your life long choices and happiness.
Me: If you truly cared about my life long choices and happiness, all that would matter is if I'm happy regardless or race, skin color, looks, and any other superficial concept that someone cannot help that only serves OTHER people and not the eve of the beholder. I try so hard to be respectful and loving to you and a good daughter but I can't keep living for others and have to do what makes me happy especially at age 26. If you don't support my happiness which is what I'm TELLING you myself that I genuinely feel, I have never been as happy with anvone than I am now, then I need to draw a boundary between me and you for my own sake. It pains me to do this and I was dreading this because I love you and felt that we have made so much progress in our relationship, but it pains me to always have it take a step back because of this. I turned off my location because I need space from you. Next time you want to talk to me about this it needs to be through a third party aka therapy.
Her: Yes, you have controlled the situation for the last ten years and you still are . We haven't been able to have openions or this is what I get. It is either we accept all you choices or I am pushed out of your life. I don't feel like a mother that has an opinion that should be respected. I obviously failed as a mother. I admit it.
TL;DR My mom is racist towards my bf of three years and need advice on how to navigate my relationship with her.

2023.06.06 02:55 brickgamer4924 [WTS] [USA-SoCal] Upgraded Tokyo Marui NGRS M4 Block II, Tokyo Marui Guarder Kit Desert Eagle, Scope, EOTech Repro [WTB] M4 Carry Handle, CAR-15/Bushnell style stock, CAR-15/XM177 Handguard
Hey Airsoft Marketplace, I'm looking to sell off some of my guns and gear that I no longer use as often as I used to. Timestamp:
https://imgur.com/a/LWcaTz6 - Upgraded Tokyo Marui NGRS M4 with 2-4 magazines and TITAN 7.4 battery: $800 OBO
First off, I'm looking to sell my fully upgraded TM NGRS M4. I'm sad to let this go as this was one of my first guns I bought when I started airsoft, but I just received a NGRS 416C and I mostly use a MWS now, so I'm ready to see it go. This gun is an absolute blast to use, with it's electric recoil and bolt lock back function it's a perfect bridge between the practicality of an AEG and the realism of a GBBR. It shoots incredibly well thanks to the amazing TM hop-up design, and I also had the inner barrel/bucking R-hopped as well. Nearly everything inside has been fully replaced and upgraded with aftermarket parts, and it's ready to be used with aftermarket springs (currently has a M100 installed) to get higher FPS than a stock TM. A discontinued and hard-to-find BTC Spectre V2 MOSFET has also been installed for better trigger response, programmable trigger functions, and precocking. The Block II handguard gives plenty of rail space, while the PTS stock offers plenty of battery storage space. The gun is currently wired to Deans, and I will also be including an adapter for Tamiya as well. I've spent well over $1000 on this gun, I'm looking to sell it for $800 OBO. I will also be including 1x EPM magazine, 1x TM hi-cap magazine, and the TITAN 3000 mAh 7.4V battery I typically ran with the gun. I'd also be willing to include 2 more EPM magazines, but the bolt-stop function seems to be broken with the two magazines.
Parts List:
Eagle6 M100 Spring- $16
Prometheus Steel Spring Guide- $19
Lonex Enhanced Anti-Reversal Latch- $10
Tokyo Marui Stock Nozzle
Prometheus 6.03 inner barrel- $54
ICS Bucking
Lonex Bushing- $11
BTC Spectre V2- $90
Block II Rail- $99
Prometheus Piston- $32
Prometheus Piston head- $25
Prometheus Cylinder- $16.95
Prometheus Cylinder Head- $19.95
Prometheus Tappet Plate $18
Prometheus 18:1 EG Hard Gears $90
Action Army Infinity Custom Airsoft AEG Motor R30000 Long Type $83
- Tokyo Marui Desert Eagle with Guarder metal body kit, 3x Magazines, and Kydex Holster: $275 OBO
This gun is an absolute blast to use, with its heavy kick and TM performance. The full metal body kit by Guarder isn't easy to come by nowadays, and it makes the gun feel a lot better with its weight and recoil. The Deagle shoots pretty well and is fully functional. However, I had to replace the right-side safety switch with a left-side safety switch, due to me not being able to find a replacement for the right-side switch when I lost it during gameplay. As a result the gun is currently unable to be switched to safe, however it still shoots perfectly fine. I bought it second-hand, so I am unsure of any internal upgrades done outside of a Guarder nozzle. I also have three non-leaky magazines for it, but I think one of them is having feeding issues due to a worn feed lip last time I checked. The magazine baseplates have some wear and tear from use as well. I am looking to sell the gun, parts of the original TM body, the 3 magazines, and a Deagle Kydex holster for $275
- 4x Scope with Fiber Optic sight: $40
Not really sure of the brand, or what it's exactly called. I bought it years ago at Evike for a discount. The reticles can be illuminated if you have a battery installed. It works well enough, I just never got too much use of it. Looking to sell it for $40, willing to discount it down to $20 if you buy it alongside a gun.
- EOTech XPS Repro: $40
I used this repro quite frequently, it works pretty well and the reticle is pretty visible unless you're in a dark environment. Looking to sell it for $40, willing to discount it down to $20 if you buy it alongside a gun.
- Tokyo Marui NGRS M4 Upper Receiver: $40
I got this secondhand with the intent of building a second upper setup for CQB, but I never got around to it. It's been spray-painted by the previous owner. Looking to sell it for $40, but I'm willing to bundle it with the NGRS M4.
I'm also looking to buy a M4 carry handle and CAR-15/XM177 furniture such as the stock and handguard. Let me know if you have any to sell!
Thank you for taking a look, please let me know if you have any questions! I prefer to sell locally, but I am open to shipping at negotiable rates. Not really looking for any trades at the moment, but I am always open to offers.

2023.06.06 02:53 DerrickBagels Are we still cool with dark matter?
I had an interesting chat with the gpt, please fact check with me:
If there is a cumulative effect due to the gravitational interactions between large enough groups of masses, it could lead to collective motion or orbital dynamics within the system. The precise behavior would depend on the specific configuration and distribution of masses in the system. In systems with multiple massive objects, such as galaxies or clusters of galaxies, the gravitational interactions between individual objects can indeed have cumulative effects on the overall motion of the system.
These interactions can give rise to complex orbital dynamics and affect the motion of individual objects within the system. For example, in a galaxy cluster, which consists of numerous galaxies bound together by gravity, the collective gravitational interactions between the galaxies play a crucial role in shaping their orbits. Galaxies within the cluster are subject to the gravitational pull of other galaxies, causing them to move in a complex dance of orbital motion. Similarly, within a galaxy, the gravitational interactions between stars can lead to the formation of structures like stellar clusters or even galactic bars. These structures are formed due to the combined gravitational forces acting on the stars within the system.
It is important to note that the cumulative effect of gravitational interactions becomes more significant as the number and mass of the objects involved increase. In systems with a large number of massive objects, such as galaxy clusters or globular clusters, the gravitational interactions can have a profound influence on the overall dynamics of the system. In summary, in systems with large enough groups of massive objects, the cumulative effect of gravitational interactions can result in complex orbital dynamics and collective motion. The specific behavior will depend on the configuration, distribution, and masses of the objects within the system.
Simulating the dynamics of an entire galaxy with every individual star and gravitational interaction is an extremely computationally challenging task, given the vast number of objects involved. It is currently not feasible to model the interactions of every single body in a galaxy that contains billions of stars and other massive objects.
Instead, simulations of galaxy dynamics typically employ various techniques to approximate and represent the interactions within the galaxy. One common approach is to use numerical methods that divide the galaxy into a finite number of particles or grid cells, representing a subset of the actual objects in the galaxy. These techniques, such as N-body simulations or hydrodynamical simulations, aim to capture the essential gravitational and hydrodynamical effects while managing computational complexity.
In these simulations, the massive objects, such as stars, are typically represented by a smaller number of particles or by more massive particles. The collective gravitational interactions between these particles are then computed using sophisticated algorithms, taking into account factors such as distance, mass, and the gravitational forces between the particles. The simulations also consider the presence and effects of other components, such as gas, dust, and dark matter.
While these simulations cannot explicitly model every individual object in a galaxy, they provide a statistically representative sample that captures the essential gravitational dynamics and behavior of the system. By carefully designing the simulations and validating them against observational data, scientists can gain valuable insights into the overall dynamics and structures of galaxies, including the influence of dark matter.
It's worth noting that simulation techniques continue to evolve and improve, driven by advancements in computational power and algorithms. Researchers are constantly refining and developing new methods to better represent the complexities of galactic dynamics. However, simulating every single object in a galaxy of billions of stars remains computationally infeasible with current technology.

2023.06.06 02:47 fpskujl Please help a picky earbuds person
First of all thank you for reading this request of mine. I have the moondrop alice and jabra elite 7 pro but I am looking for earbuds that has these things:
●Excellent sound quality ●Excellent ANC ●Tiny, comfort and secure (jogging, can be put inside a helmet, and side sleeping) ●At least 8 hrs battery ●At least has IPX4 rating ●At least a decent ambient sound ●No need to worry about call quality ●Codecs don't matter either since hi-res codecs' sound improvement is only minimal compared to the drop in battery life ●There is no price limit
Currently these are what I am looking at: Technics AZ80 (Issue: too big for helmets and side sleeping, battery life is 7 hrs)
Linkbuds S (Issue: battery life is lacking at 6hrs, also kind of a bit old so maybe wait for a newer linkbuds s version?)
Comfobuds mini (Issue: battery life, not that feature packed compared to others, also a bit older now)
Soundcore Libert 4 (Issue: not sure if stem design is good for sleeping, jogging and helmets)
Soundcore Libert 3 pro (Issue: bulky not sure if good for sleeping, helmets, though it is secure for jogging based on reviews, old already so maybe wait for the 4 pros?)
Moondrop alice lacks features and customization, it is also very big but the sound quality is excellent
Jabra elite 7 pro is lacking on ANC, i can still hear how loud my motorcycle is when riding

2023.06.06 02:26 bie716 Singapore experts of r/bangtan! What advice and recommendations do you have for ARMY visiting Singapore for the SUGA Agust D Concert? (16 - 18 June 2023)
In just under two weeks, ARMYs will descend upon Singapore to see SUGA! Help an ARMY out and let them know about safety, how to get around, where to eat, tourist attractions, BTS-related things to do, or anything else that you think someone should know when they visit! (Special thanks to the mods for your input and feedback for this guide!)
BTS' Past Visits
Red Bullet Tour (2014 BTS Live Trilogy Episode II) at the The Star Performing Arts Centre (13 Dec 2014) Music Bank performance (4 Aug 2017) at the Suntec Convention Centre Love Yourself World Tour (19 Jan 2019) at the National Stadium This made history as the first time a K-pop group held a concert at the venue (largest concert venue in the country) and
tickets sold out in about 3.5 hours! (45,000 audience)
- Concert review
- Witty notice from the Singapore Police Force abt avoiding ticket scams (it uses the BTS song titles!)
- Bonus: Jimin picked Marina Bay Sands as his special spot in the BTS x Street Galleries collaboration with Google revealed on ARMY Day (July 9) 2022
Concert Venue
Do note that it’s currently the June school holidays too (26 May-26 Jun), so the Sports Hub and surrounding areas may be crowded with many other visitors besides the concert-goers. Please be mindful!
- Singapore Indoor Stadium, right next to the National Stadium (both are part of the Singapore Sports Hub) where BTS performed at their last concert here in 2019. In fact, the Indoor Stadium was then used as the waiting zone for the standing zone ticket-holders.
- Concert guidelines been posted yet (will update here when they are), but here are the general guidelines for events there (links opens a pdf)
- The nearest MRT station is the Stadium station, on the Circle line - here is a train map (with Stadium MRT circled out in light purple). You’ll know when you’ve arrived as the station design is quite unique! Go up the elevator and follow the signage - the path is sheltered.
- You can find Kallang Wave Mall right next to the venue, for a spot of shopping and dining before the concert (opening hrs:10am-10pm daily). There is another smaller mall Leisure Park Kallang located next to the carpark, which houses an ice skating rink, bowling alley and cinema alongside more food options. The open space in front of the MRT station and the two malls is where ARMYs are likely to gather to exchange fan support and stuff
- The nearest hawker centre (i.e the affordable street food) is Old Airport Road Food Centre, one of the oldest and largest hawker centres in the country. It is about 20 mins walk away from the stadium, or you can simply alight at the Mountbatten/Dakota MRT stations (one or two stops away from Stadium MRT station respectively); both are about a 5 mins’ walk away from the food centre. Here is a list of recommendations (unfortunately, not a lot of Halal food stalls here. Let me know if you need those).
- There is also a McDonalds’ & KFC near Mountbatten MRT if you want something more familiar, or potentially try whatever new promo is currently going on at these places.
Sightseeing/Activities
Non-exhaustive list (all prices are in SGD)
- National Gallery Singapore. There is a special Namjooning Tour as part of the Gallery Wellness Festival. Slots are fully booked for the guided tours on 25 & 30 June. You could try the self-guided tours instead, which start on 17 July. Gallery passes for general admission to the permanent galleries (needed to access the tour) cost $20 for non-Singaporeans aged 13-59. Closes early (by 3pm) on some weekends in June and July (see dates on website).
- National Museum Singapore. Has very interactive and engaging exhibits. Highly recommended (I used to be a volunteer docent there for abt a year). Tickets cost from $15 (for access to permanent galleries only)
- Singapore Zoo & adjacent parks (Bird Park, River Wonders, Night Safari). We have one of the best zoos in the world! Single park tickets cost $50. Multi-park options also available. .
- Gardens by the Bay. Pretty gardens with outdoor sections and 2 indoor air-conditioned conservatories - you may have heard of the supertrees that have been featured in the movie "Crazy Rich Asians" and K-drama "Little Women". Provides a welcome respite from the heat. It’s free to visit the outdoor areas, but it’s really worth it to pay for entry to the conservatories. There are various pricing packages, so best to check out the website yourself.
- Singapore Botanical Gardens is our first UNESCO World Heritage site, the first and only tropical botanic garden on the list. Admission is free.
- The Merlion and the Marina Bay area. I personally recommend going at night to see the famed cityscape of Singapore all lit up (the temperature’s cooler too!). Marina Bay Sands Mall has a light and water show every night. There is also the iLight Festival going on now until 25 June with artistic light installations (mix of free and paid attractions). Bonus: Yoongi wore a Merlion Singapore t-shirt in a travel-themed Lotte Xylitol ad!
- You can also ride the Singapore Flyer for an aerial view of our city like the boys did! Admission costs $40.
- Visit our ethnic enclaves, Chinatown, Little India, Kampung Glam and Geylang Serai to see old shophouses, shop for souvenirs and try ethnic food
- One of the fanbases here, BangtanSG, has teased an ARMY event from 11-13 June. Will update when more details are released.
- Sentosa & Universal Studios Singapore theme park - you can access the island via various modes of transport with varying admission fees. Transport within the island is free.
- If you don’t want to think too hard, the best airport in the world for 12 years running is also an attraction in itself! See its dedicated section below for more information.
- Singapore is also located in the centre of Southeast Asia - if you’ve never been in this oft-forgotten region of the world, take the chance to check out our neighbouring countries as well! Malaysia can easily be reached via bus, and Indonesia via ferry.
(Note: You may want to check out
Klook for discount tickets/passes)
Dining
Singapore is a food paradise with various cuisines from the local ethnic groups, as well as international ones. For Muslims, there are a lot of Muslim-owned or Halal-certified options around (
look for this certificate, or the label “Muslim-owned”), including most of the fast food chains like McDonald’s/KFC/Burger King/Subway.
Carrying some cash with you (~$10 per pax) is a good idea, especially if you’re venturing out to hawker centres; while many places now have an electronic payment system in place, cash is still king in terms of versatility, and anecdotally most stores prefer cash or will charge a credit-card payment surcharge.
Where to eat?
- Most of the malls have a good selection of dining options, ranging from the (relatively affordable) multi-stall foodcourts to fast-food restaurants, cafes, and more upmarket restaurants.
- It can get crowded during lunchtime (12-2pm) as office workers come out for their break, so try to avoid those hours if possible, or make advance reservations.
- If you are staying/shopping in Orchard Road, Far East Plaza (level 4 & 5) and Lucky Plaza (multiple levels) have relatively more affordable food options for the area..
- There’s a myriad of other malls in the suburban areas outside of Orchard to be explored.
- Hawker centres: A “hawker” in Singapore refers to a street food vendor, and in Singapore they’ve been centralised into food centres to create an iconic Singapore dining institution. These places are generally not air-conditioned, but they are the most affordable dining option. If you see an item on a table even if it’s something innocuous like a tissue paper packet or name-card, it means the seat's been reserved (“chop-ed” in the local slang) by people who are off queuing for their food.
- Look for stalls with the longest lines (the most popular stalls will have long queues all day long), but most stalls should have decent food.
- Newton Hawker Centre (near Newton MRT station) and Lau Pa Sat (near Telok AyeDowntown/Raffles Place Stations) are probably the most well-known to tourists, but beware of touts and over-charging, especially at Newton.
- Taking the MRT out to slightly less central areas like Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Kallang, etc. should bring you to other hawker centres that cater to locals.
- Order in: GrabFood and Foodpanda are the two most popular food delivery apps with extensive coverage all around Singapore. Deliveroo is also available. Just be prepared to pay upwards of $5 delivery fee during peak periods, and the listed online prices are usually higher than in-store. The apps also have pick-up available if you’d simply like to order in advance.
- The ethnic enclaves like Kampung Glam (Malay/Muslim), Chinatown and Little India have a higher concentration of the respective ethnic cuisines, but most places in Singapore have a good mix of different local and international cuisines
What to eat?
Breakfast (These are generally very affordable options that should cost you below $10 per person, particularly if you go to food courts/hawker centres)
- Tea/coffee with kaya toast and half-boiled eggs. Available at most hawker centres (usually at the drink stalls), and chains like Ya Kun Kaya Toast and Killiney Kopitiam in malls. Order tea/coffee like a local by referring to this guide.
- Among the fast-food chains, KFC offers the more local option of chicken porridge (congee)
- Roti prata, a south-Indian flatbread (also known as paratha in India, or roti canai in Malaysia), available at most hawker centres and Indian coffee-shops
- Nasi lemak, coconut milk-flavoured rice with a variety of side dishes (usual ones: omelette, fried chicken wing/fried fish, fried anchovies).
- Beehoon, rice vermicelli with a range of toppings like fish cake, luncheon meat (spam), chicken wings, veggies etc.
- Chai Tow Kway (“carrot cake” - it’s actually radish cake), Tau Huey (soya bean curd pudding) + Youtiao (chinese fried dough)
- Mee Rebus, a Malay noodle dish with thick & spicy potato-based gravy topped with hard-boiled egg, bean sprouts, fried shallots, tau kwa (fried beancurd) and spring onions
Lunch & dinner - Chilli crab: I don’t have any personal recommendations, and it could be costly because the crabs are usually charged by weight, which may vary daily. The link gives a run-down of some popular places
- Hainanese chicken rice: Again, no personal recommendations, but you can find this in most foodcourts and hawker centres. You should be able to find one of these for $5 or less.
- Murtabak/Briyani: My favourite is ZamZam Restaurant (est, 1908) at North Bridge Road in the Muslim enclave of Kampung Glam, but there is a whole row of Singapore-Indian restaurants serving a similar menu there
- Everything under the sun :) Google maps & data coverage generally works well in most parts of Singapore, so search & explore! Some sites you can start at include Chope & Burpple.
Snacks Getting Around
Singapore has a great
public transport system. It’s really easy & cheap to get around on the MRT (mass rapid transit trains) and buses. Use
Google Maps or the
City Mapper app to navigate yourself and get route recommendations (the latter also has transport arrival timings and fare estimates. It also works in
many cities globally, so is very useful for tourists).
Various transport passes are available for tourists, but you can also use your contactless credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) to pay for the fares (no registration required).
In general, using the Circle Line (yellow) or Downtown Line (blue) should get you to most tourist attractions. Orchard Road (main shopping belt) can be accessed via the North South Line (red), between Orchard and Somerset MRT stations.
Map for reference, with links to versions in Chinese/Malay/Tamil available for download. Taxis and ride-hailing cars: We have Grab and Gojek in place of Uber.
- The largest local taxi fleet - the blue Comfort Cabs - also have their own ride-hailing app to compete, although they can also operate via the traditional meter & can be booked via phone call/flagged down as usual. Fares can be paid via cash post-ride or credit card for all these private car options.
- Ride-hailing tends to be very expensive. At peak periods, ride-hailing services could be even more expensive than taxis, but at least you know the price beforehand. All malls have a taxi stand where you can stand in queue and hop on the next available cab. Queues can be long at morning and evening peak periods, so avoid taking cabs then if you can.
General navigation All signs are in English, and the locals - esp the younger generation - are able to speak English fluently. If you’re really lost, feel free to approach others to ask for help! People are generally friendly and helpful despite initial appearances :)
As a side note: in general, if Google Maps is asking you to circle around a building to get somewhere - don’t. You can cut through most places on the ground floor quite easily, even the residential buildings (unless they’re private properties like condominiums/landed housing). MRT stations are connected to a good number of places via sheltered corridors if they’re nearby enough. Enjoy the aircon & shade instead of walking outside in the heat if you can.
Shopping
- Orchard Road is our main shopping belt, running from Orchard to Somerset MRT stations. You can find many shopping malls there, with collections ranging from upmarket to fast fashion. Check out Design Orchard, a retail space for fashion and lifestyle items by Singapore designers.
- For an old-style emporium experience drop by Mustafa Centre. It used to be open 24 hours but this was disrupted by COVID19 and now it is only open until 2am (best place for late night shopping!). It's not a glitzy mall, but has crowded aisles chock full of all manners of things, including snacks and souvenirs (avoid going on Sundays when it gets super crowded with migrant workers on their day off).
- Already mentioned above are the ethnic enclaves Chinatown, Little India, Kampung Glam and Geylang Serai with smaller standalone shops. Special mention for Haji Lane in the Kampung Glam area, a small street with cute boutiques.
- The many, many other malls scattered across the country - a brief list. For example, Paya Lebar alone (just another station up from Dakota!) is connected to several malls like Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ), PLQ 2, PL Square, Singpost centre, and a couple more within a 5-mins’ walk (Tanjong Katong Complex, City Plaza, KINEX etc.).
Weathewhat to wear
The weather is especially hot these days (max temp of up to 35 degrees celsius, or 95 Fahrenheit), with possible spurts of heavy rain at certain times of day, so dress light and carry an umbrella (most places do have sheltered walkways between buildings and bus-stops/MRT stations though, so don’t worry too much about getting around in the rain). Mall air-conditioning can be cold, so hv another layer (e.g. cardigan/wrap/scarf) on hand. Remember to hydrate frequently & avoid staying outdoors for too long!
Airport
- Singapore Changi Airport is often voted by travellers as the best airport in the world, with lots of shopping, dining and leisure options in the various terminals. BTS (except Jin who took a different flight) stopped over at Changi Airport on the way to New Zealand for Bon Voyage 4 (airport lounge scenes shown in Episode 1)! While you may not have access to the business class lounge like them, there are various other options to rest and hangout, like the many gardens (some even accessible from the public areas) and even a free 24h cinema (Terminal 3 transit area).
- Jewel Changi Airport which is attached to Terminal 1 is an attraction in itself. It's worth arriving 2-3 hours earlier than your flight check-in time to grab a meal and have a look around Jewel. A particular highlight is to take the skytrain between Terminals 2 and 3, cutting across the centre of Jewel, to get a spectacular view of the indoor waterfall. There is also shopping aplenty (Tip: NTUC Fairprice supermarket in Jewel has a nice selection of food and non-food souvenirs which are pretty affordable).
- There are various transport options for getting to the city from the airport. Public transport like MRT is convenient if you are travelling light, else there is a shuttle service to selected downtown hotels. Taxis and ride-hire cars can be expensive, especially with the airport surcharge.
- Sort of related, Yoongi gave a shout out to our national airlines (Singapore Airlines) for its great seat and amenities in business class in BV4! (He said: let's always fly Singapore Airlines in the future!). The airlines must have taken notice, because they recently announced that they would be adding BTS content like songs, MVs, LY New York concert, and Break The Silence docu in their in-flight entertainment system to commemorate BTS' 10th anniversary. An ARMY also spotted a write-up abt BTS in their in-flight magazine.
We’ve tried to achieve a balance between being succinct and informative, but certainly the above info is not exhaustive.
So do feel free to ask in the comments below if the info you need is not here! Fellow SG ARMY, or those familiar with Singapore, feel free to chime in! submitted by

2023.06.06 02:26 MrsKittenHeel Important Notice: r/Brisbane Going Private from June 12th to 14th in Solidarity with Third-Party Developers
G'day,
brisbane!
You may have heard some murmurs in the wider Reddit community about upcoming changes to Reddit's API. If "API" is a new term for you, don't worry, you're not alone. Think of an API as a special language that allows different pieces of software to communicate with each other. For instance, when you use an app on your phone, that app uses an API to talk to a server somewhere else in the world, fetch data, and show it to you in a user-friendly way.
Reddit has its own API, which allows developers to create third-party applications and tools that many of us use and love. These include apps from
Apollo to
Reddit is Fun to
Narwhal to
BaconReader. As well as accessibility tools that make Reddit more usable for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Unfortunately, Reddit has recently announced major changes to their API usage policy. They've decided to charge developers for access to this vital tool - and the price they're asking is extremely high. To give you some perspective, Apollo, a beloved third-party app, is being asked to pay $20 million a year, a staggering amount, especially when considering they currently provide their services to users for free.
Many in the Reddit community are concerned about these changes. Third-party applications play a crucial role in our collective experience, providing alternative ways to browse Reddit and offering additional, often indispensable, features. For instance, the blind community relies on specific third-party tools to navigate Reddit, as the official Reddit app is not adequately designed for their needs.
In response to Reddit's decision, many subreddits are planning to 'go dark' - that is, set their communities to private - from June 12th to 14th. This act is intended as a show of solidarity with the developers of third-party apps and the people who will be most affected by these changes.
After careful consideration, the mod team at
Brisbane has decided to join this protest. We understand that this decision may cause inconvenience to our community, and we apologise for that. However, we strongly believe in the importance of standing up for the principles of fairness, accessibility, and community support that Reddit has traditionally championed.
During the 'dark' period, we encourage you to take some time to understand the issues at hand and, if you wish, to voice your opinions about these changes. Together, as a community, we can make a difference.
During the protest, this community will be set to Private, but rest assured we will see you back on the 15th of June, ready to continue shitposting about crocodiles in the river and bin chicken in the bins. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Sincerely -
Brisbane mod team

2023.06.06 02:19 PrincessStupid My boyfriend hates the painting I brought home.
I bought View to the West from a police auction for thirty dollars (okay, fine, it was the starting price and there were no other bids). It was (is) an oil painting, or so I assume, and the burnished bronze frame was included with it, and I figure the price was probably worth thirty bucks in the frame alone. The painting itself is pretty enough that I figured at the time it would make a nice little piece to hang over the couch of our apartment and add a little maturity to the look of the one-bedroom my boyfriend and I share.
When I brought it home, my boyfriend was furious, accusing me of wasting money again because I "knew" that every penny was precious. He was unemployed and I was barely keeping us afloat with my grocery clerk job. Thirty bucks was a lot of money, especially for something he labeled as a frivolity, but I never got to spend any money on myself.
"Thirty bucks is worth my mental health" is the general tune of what I said. He wanted to argue, but even if he wanted to break up right there he'd be homeless, no close living family to speak of. Besides, we were technically in love and he couldn't leave me without putting some major thought into it.
I wish I could tell you what the painting looked (looks!) like, but I don't remember by now. I only remember the frame, with its intricate little floral designs and details. It's heavy, like real bronze, and the painting itself is about three feet wide and two feet tall, plus a few inches for the frame. There's no signature on it, which pointed to something maybe mass-manufactured, but the texture on the canvas (I'm trashy and touched it, shut up) made me think that it might be hand-painted.
I hung it up over the couch as planned, without the help of my boyfriend who still stubbornly clung to the notion that it was a waste of money. He slept underneath it on the couch that night when I told him it was my money and I was allowed to spend it.
The morning after, as I was getting ready for work, my boyfriend seemed shaken. I asked him what was wrong, knowing he was about to pick another fight over the stupid painting I'd bought at the auction.
The painting, he said, was making him uneasy all night. There was something weird about it, and he said he wanted me to take it back to the auction to see if I could get my money back. Of course I didn't do that. It was a lame excuse anyway, and I had to work the next few days. The reason he was uneasy, I told him, was probably because it was a confiscated item from a police auction and he thought it was some kind of criminal paraphernalia. Which it wasn't. Isn't.
When I got home from work he was still at home like usual. But instead of lounging on the sofa watching Dr. Phil, he was sitting in the middle of the living room floor, looking up at View to the West like he was worshipping Christ Himself.
When I said his name, he didn't look up.
I had to shake his shoulder to get his attention, and when he finally looked up at me, his eyes were red and dry. He managed to blink a few times and I asked him what the hell he was doing.
He didn't know.
He thought he had seen a little black figure cross through the painting (it must have been some kind of a landscape, now that I'm writing it now) when he had been trying to go back to sleep on the couch after I left, and after that he couldn't stop staring at it. He claimed he hadn't realized so much time had passed while he was staring at it, and I wanted to accuse him of being dramatic, but those eyes were too hard to fake.
Fine, I said. If it was bothering him that much, we could cover it up and I'd try to take it back in a few days when I had time off again. He nodded, and his joints creaked when he got up to help me cover it up with a throw from our couch. How long had he been sitting there? That was the first real sign that something was wrong, but I ignored the unease that crept up the back of my neck.
He slept in bed with me that night, but when I woke up in the middle of the night for water, I was alone. I went out into the kitchen and saw my boyfriend in the living room again, wrapped now in the blanket we had put over the painting. His eyes were trained on it like it was the only thing anchoring him to this reality, and I even doubted that much. Despite the fearful feeling in my gut that something was very, very wrong with him, I approached. I even tried to put myself between him and the painting, but he stared right on through me.
I shook him again and he waved me off. I regret this, but I went back to bed shivering instead of calling for help. I didn't know what to do. Please don't judge me for that.
When I woke up to my alarm in the morning, my boyfriend was nowhere to be seen. The blanket he'd been wrapped in was in the middle of the laminate flooring of the living room, discarded. The door was locked, the bathroom empty, too, but he'd left his keys on the kitchen counter where they always sat.
And there was the painting, hung up on the wall where it had always been. I inspected it, hoping to see what my boyfriend had seen in it, trying to understand the obsession and praying it would tell me where he had gone. Fear soaked my bones. What if the painting had become too much for him to handle, what if I had awoken a psychotic break with the painting, what if he was on the street losing his mind and I was sitting at home, fretting over what he might be doing instead of going out to search for him?
And then I saw them: two little dark figures like the shadows of moths fluttering across the center of the painting. I pulled myself away from it, unsure of what I saw. Desperate to see it again, to prove that I wasn't seeing things, too, like my boyfriend had.
That was about thirty minutes ago. I texted my mom to let her know that my boyfriend is missing. If you know an unemployed Jonathan in Omaha, let me know if you know where he's at. We should talk and I'm worried about him.
In the meantime, I'm going to go look at the painting again to watch for the figures one more time. There must be something there.

2023.06.06 02:08 ItsDumi [SOUL STEALER] Chapter 14 - Vhifet
A strong gust of wind blows past Raya and Kita as they walk beneath the darkening sky. The stars beading the darkened edges, like the inside of a snow globe being covered for storage.
Their attention is shifted to the myst. Kita instinctively tries to deduce where the myst will be coming from, but the brick wall of her knowledge stops her in the process.
"Where's it coming from?" Kita asks Raya.
"It'll blow from the South," Raya answers.
"How do you know that?"
"Thunderstorms often accompany the myst,"
"So the winds suggest a thunderstorm?"
"Sure," Raya responds before pointing to the sky- in the same direction the wind came from.
Kita turns around to look up at dark, distant clouds with strobes of lightning casting menacing, white flashes on the shadowy surface below.
"So you use your eyes?" Kita shrugs, realizing the technique is not all that impressive.
"Sure, but that only works when it's too late. We won't be escaping the myst's path,"
"How do the cities escape it?"
"I'm not certain. A combination of weather analysis and the alignment of the stars,"
Kita's eyebrow raises, "How the hell would the alignment of the stars determine where the myst flows?"
"I'm no observer. I don't understand the ways of the beads in the sky," Raya chuckles.
Kita wouldn't consider herself 'unintelligent' but she knows she's not the brightest flame in the fire. Using the stars to guide the motion of a 'sandstorm' is a truly unintelligent design.
"So how long do we have?" Kita asks.
"Not long. I see a good place for shelter,"
Raya points ahead of her, at the base of a mountain with a small cave entrance at its base. Small lights radiate from deep inside the cave as the surrounding fog of the impending myst slowly starts to limit their vision.
"Ah, I'd love to camp in a cave with strangers all around me," Kita sighs, and Raya just laughs- Thinking Kita's joking, but she wasn't.
No, those people are probably poor and smelly. Ugh, she'd rather sleep in the myst than deal with the pungent smell her mind is imagining much too vividly.
"Can't we just camp out here," Kita groans.
"Are you worried they'll steal the coin you no longer have?" Raya's sarcasm has Kita rolling her eyes.
"Not all of us had servants to bring beautiful men and women to the bedroom in our castle, your Heiness,"
Raya chuckles, "Our tipi isn't strong enough. The myst is quite forceful,"
"Have you ever seen anyone get consumed by the myst?" Kita finds herself curious about watching someone die in such a horrific way. Maybe she could cast a spell that does something similar.
"I have," Raya responds, to Kita's surprise. "It's quite gruesome,"
"Oh yeah? Was it a friend of yours? Family maybe?" Kita chuckles, "Some of your citizens?"
"No…"
"Who then?"
"You," Raya responds, passing a smug smile to Kita.
"Seriously?" Kita asks in awe.
"Indeed," Raya responds. "I couldn't get to you in time, but when the myst passed. I found your… mangled body in the dirt,"
"How'd I get caught in it?"
"You didn't want to sleep in a cave with people 'lesser' than yourself, and opted to challenge the myst,"
"
Haha, very funny," Kita replies, thinking Raya is messing with her.
"That's the true story," Raya chuckles.
"Huh…" Kita grunts, surprisingly unsurprised that she'd have done something so stupid. "What'd it do to me?"
"It melted away most of your skin and muscle. So much of it had deteriorated by the morning, I could see the beat of your heart through the gaps in your ribcage. Your body used over three hundred souls to stay alive throughout a single night,"
"Woah, that's pretty gross," Kita chuckles.
"It was," Raya laughs.
Ahead of Kita, the cave entrance peaks at the same size as one of those villain office doors. It tunnels deep into the cave. The walls tighten as they travel further in, following with light as they shuffle sideways through the cracks.
As Kita pokes her head out the final portion of the slender hallway. She stumbles out into a gargantuan sight. From her elevated position, she witnesses the largest cave she's ever seen- as far as she knows. Much wider than the canyon, an entire city expands amongst an isolated biome of glowing rivers and tipis scattered amongst this seemingly subsurface world.
At the cave's ceiling, dozens of large, circular tents hang suspended on chains as though they're the eggs of some gargantuan beast. All interconnected with walkways. Their only connection to the ground are long, steel wires that lead up to platforms amongst the orb-shaped homes. She can see a figure in the distance, smaller than the tip of her finger, scaling up one of these wires rapidly. With some sort of connection at their waist.
"This isn't as small as you made it seem," Kita responds. Staring into the naturally illuminated glows of purple and sapphire, coupled with the accenting glow of orange lights scattered in homes and pathways throughout the city.
"It's grown a lot since I was last here," Raya says, with an expression as perplexed as Kita's.
"When was that?" Kita chuckles," When they'd just found it?"
"... Yeah," Raya stammers.
Kita raises both her eyebrows as she whistles in shock, "Alright then, Grandma,"
Raya chuckles, rolling her eyes to look at Kita, "You're older than I am,"
At the far end of the city, a large stairway leads up to a marketplace, occupying a low, but large platform of what was probably once a gigantic boulder. With streams of people walking towards it.
"Food," Kita commands, seeing the marketplace.
"I'll set up the tipi," Rays adds. "Bring something back for me,"
"Where you thinking of setting up?"
"Over there," Raya points at a lesser occupied part of the common area. Beside the glowing lake.
"Alright," Kita nods, then heads down the pathway that leads to the marketplace.
•°•°•°•
Kita slouches over as she makes it up the last step to the marketplace, huffing heavily thanks to her poor stamina. When she raises her head she is greeted by an expansive marketplace. Stalls and stands with food and different ornaments on sale, alongside tipi's selling clothes, weapons, and all the goodies Kita could imagine. It'll be tough for Kita not to spend all of this coin.
Maybe I should have been the one to set up the tent.
She slowly walks past the plethora of stalls selling all sorts of useful items- Making her contemplate a future in which she settles down and decorates a really cute tipi with all of this useless crap she could collect. Figurines and hanging sculptures made of polished stone. With glowing liquid from the lake, flowing in all directions through the stone.
And…
Kita steps up to the table of a stall that catches her attention. And gently places her hands on a… bird. A polished dark stone accents with a purple liquid glow, flowing among its spread wings. It's shaped like that obnoxious one she'd met.
Rayn.
"Many dream of soaring the skies," Says a young, dark-skinned man with short white dreadlocks. He has an amalgamation of turquoise and white robes draped across his body.
"I'm not the dreaming type," Kita responds.
"You gaze at this piece with the eyes of one," He smiles.
"Did you make it?" She asks.
"I did," He nods.
She lifts the piece closer to her face. Casting a soft purple light into her nose as she watches this liquid flow amongst the fine details and patterns of the sculptures.
"What is that stuff?" She asks. "It flows thicker than water,"
"Most believe it stems from the depths of the cave," He lifts a larger one of his sculptures. "It does hydrate us. Some believe it does more,"
"More being…"
"We call it,
Vhifet. The next life source. We see it as our world's message to us. One of future abundance. A world better than the one of the old humans. If one is to drink Vhifet, their soul will rejoin our world when the time is right, and they will be chosen to experience the era of Vhifet."
"Hmm," Kita mumbles, in an interested way. "The last thing I would want is to come back here,"
"You're not of faith?" He asks.
"The way of gods is not my concern," She responds.
"I do not mean faith in god. Do you have faith in a good future?"
"I'm not so sure I'll have one," She drops her eye contact. Taken aback by the numbness of her missing soul. Incompleteness trickles through her like an itch she cannot reach. "All that exists is now,"
"Yes, but you are not designed to only perceive now. You need not work for your future but you must believe in it,"
Kita glances up at the guy. He's got a way with words. If Kita was any more downtrodden, she'd have been converted right on the spot. Drinking the slime water and whatever other weird ritual they probably have to get a taste of that faith. But, no faith will get her soul back. To her knowledge, most faiths require their participants to have souls anyway. She's not exactly suited for the lifestyle. The religious system is rigged against the soulless.
"How much for this?" Kita asks, holding up the little Rayn statue. Trying to ignore the idiotic ramblings of her mind.
"Twenty-one coin," He smiles.
"Is a meal included? She asks, raising an eyebrow at the price.
The man laughs, raising his hand to his chest as his head leans back. "Since we had a lovely conversation, I can give it to you for Fifteen,"
Kita chuckles at the man's animated behaviour. "Alright, Fifteen it is,"
She swings her backpack around to her front and reaches in to grab some coin out of a pouch.
"Here you go," She says, taking her hand out from the bag and reaching out to him with fifteen coin in her hand. "Fifteen coin,"
The man reaches his hand out to collect the coin. And in doing so, his fingers collide with Kita's. Inducing a sudden lapse in Kita's vision. She can't see anything, or even feel her body anymore.
There is only darkness.

2023.06.06 02:03 BB8Bubblegum 23M - Hey, maybe we could be friends?
Hi there! I would love to make some new buddies or simply have a chat! I'm a 23-year-old from the US.
Among my hobbies, you'll find movies/TV, design, casual gaming, reading, and yes, even staring at the ceiling. It would be great to befriend some people who are fairly close in age, but as long as you're 18 or older, I'm completely up for a chat. I do have some physical disabilities that keep me at home a lot of the time, but hey, that just means I have plenty of availability to chat! On top of that, I'm a night owl, so you can count on me being up and ready for a conversation at most hours of the day.
Please note that I tend to have a rather dark and sarcastic sense of humor, but I like to think I'm relatively bearable. So, what more could one ask for?
I'm happy to chat right here on Reddit, or if you prefer, we can connect on Discord or any other platform since I know Reddit can be a bit finicky sometimes.
I don't want to turn this into a novel, so shoot me a message and introduce yourself! I'd absolutely love to have a chat. Or hey if you just need to vent, I'm cool with that too.

2023.06.06 01:47 AdonisChrist /r/InteriorDesign is planning to shutter for the June 12 Reddit Blackout, Protesting reddit's API rate gouging
Reddit is raising the API rate to absurd levels and basically forcing a third party reddit apps to not be able to afford to continue offering their products.
The folks over at
/videos and
/gaming have put up very well written posts about this matter, linked
here and
here.
Following in Dacvak's footsteps from /gaming, I'd like to let y'all know that my current plan is to shutter the sub on June 12th and leave it shuttered until reddit adequately addresses the issue at hand.
I feel this is an important matter and this is something our community can do to help support the fair treatment of those who've made so many useful tools to make our experience on this platform so much better.
Please take the time to read and understand the posts linked above and let me know what you think down in the comments.
PS: I'm definitely swayed by the fact that a shuttered sub requires no moderation, lol. If you've got any interest in joining the mod team and supporting the quality standard of
/interiordesign submissions please message the mods
here. Every additional post reviewer helps.
