2023.06.06 17:52 3DK1ng Help dealing with a min-max player as a first time DM

Hello I am a first time DM running 5e Light of Xaryxis. I have a group of around 5 players, but I have one player who likes to min max and break the game. He's running an rock gnome artificer battlesmith lv 7 and he decided to put adamantine armor on his Steel defender and ride it on a mech. Its a cool concept but it really annoying during combat whenever I try to roll to hit against him and he has an armour class of 23 after casting shield. He basically never casts any other spells but shield and enlarge. I have no idea how to balance combat against him. I'm also fairly sure he's fudging his dice rolls. I'm not a very confrontational person so I have no idea what to do without making it blantantly unbalanced and targeted to make it a challenge.

2023.06.06 17:47 TherealProp Started developing Dungeon of the Mad Mage Video game last night

I've been developing my own game for several years now that involves fighting on the backs of dragons using lances ballista magic etc and being able to play giants soldiers that sort of thing.
Well to get back on track I figured I need a break and want to develop some new tools and assets. So my plan is to develop the 1st level of the dungeon room by room fitting it's description and have every trap, monster, and secret door work exactly as the book describes in DnD's 5e Dungeon of the Mad Mage. It'll be a First person view co-op with the four vanilla classes. If WoTc likes it maybe we can come to an arrangement and do the entire dungeon. I've already started writing out how the combat will function following closely to the DnD rules, just a bit faster and see what works best.

2023.06.06 17:21 MjolnirPants Jerry and the Adoring Fans: Part 1

"This was supposed to be our time," I groused as the concierge coordinator left our cabin. Inanna shook her head slowly and patted her lap. I sat on the bed next to her and leaned over, resting my head on her thighs. I always loved this, especially because she would inevitably- Oh god.... Oh yeah, that's it...
The fingers running through my hair, gently rubbing my scalp were hypnotic. The tension immediately drained out of me and my whole body went limp. It sounds kind of weird, doesn't it? I mean, I'm married to the former goddess of sex, a woman whose sexual appetite could not be described without the use of the words 'insatiable' and 'bizarre'. I mean, it would be a struggle to not use the term 'sexual body horror-esque' as well. When I say she's imaginative, I mean imaginative. And yet for all the times she's turned off gravity, induced orgasms in organs that have no business having orgasms (liver orgasms are a trip, but heart orgasms are mind-blowing), growing new organs in random places on her body or doing any or all of those things to me, this was the thing she did that melted me.
Every time. Man, I could fall asleep right now, regardless of the stress the coordinator had re-introduced to my life. I've fallen asleep like this many times before, in fact.
"It's not so bad," she purred. "All you have to do is give a talk. You've done that many times before."
I sighed. I wasn't able to work up any indignation like this, but as long as she kept her fingers from the spots behind my ears, I could still think.
"And sign a bunch of autographs and pose for pictures," I said. "And the talk will be to a bunch of fans, not academics and students. It's a totally different crowd."
"It's really not that different," she said as she found the spots behind my ears and melted my brain.
"The whole thing will take two hours," she said while I was completely helpless. It was totally unfair. I couldn't even protest that it would raise my profile and result in the whole cruise being peppered with people asking for more autographs and wanting to take pictures and buy us drinks.
I sighed again. God, this felt so good...
At some point, one hand wandered off my head and dug into my pants. The hand that continued to rub my head and the sheer familiarity of her fondling me kept me locked in my fugue state as she got me unbuttoned. By the time her scalp-massaging hand slipped away, I was ready to do anything she wanted.
So that's what we did.
----
I'd already agreed to do it, mind. I had just been griping about it when Inanna suckered me with her wily hands, and then her wily hoohah. Yes, I said 'wily hoohah', and if you knew Inanna as well as I did, you'd know that not only does it have a mind of its own, it's a devious and cunning creature that we should all pray remains on the side of good.
I can't really blame the coordinator, either. The cruise Inanna and I had booked just so happened to have a Legend of Jimmy fan convention of sorts happening, which we had somehow overlooked. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if her hoohah was aware, and simply kept quiet about it, knowing that I'd require a lot of 'comforting' after exposing myself to that much attention.
When the coordinator discovered that the couple on whose lives the show was based was on the cruise, we'd had our middle-grade accommodations bumped up to the top tier, and been given the gold-star concierge service, as well as a free pass to eat at any of the restaurants aboard ship and free admission to countless activities taking place. And then, once that was done, the coordinator oh-so-politely asked if I'd be willing to give a little talk, do a little autograph signing and otherwise schmooze the crowd.
Much to my chagrin, I agreed.
So here I was, sweating under a bunch of stage lights, behind a podium, having recited my hastily-prepared speech about the importance of understanding cultural context when dealing with supernatural entities and specific magics, answering questions that mostly pertained to the show, and often got incredibly personal.
"Is anal your wife's favorite?" a young man asked. I rolled my eyes. "Next question."
A respectable looking young lady in a sweater raised her hand and the usher with the mic held it up to her.
"If she's not into anal... I am," she said with a sly smile. I sighed deeply and prayed for the strength to continue.
"I have plenty of anal sex," I said. "Thank you for the offer, but my sex life is really something I'd rather keep a personal matter." I glanced over at Inanna, occupying one of the chairs on the stage. She was whispering to the host and pointing at the young lady. A naive person might assume she was asking to have her expelled after disrupting the Q&A by making what was obviously a joking offer.
But I knew she was making sure she got the young lady's number. Because Inanna.
The usher found a muscular young man with a serious burn scar on his neck. Probably a veteran, I thought, noting the way he moved as he stood.
"Did the CIA teach you how to fight, or are you a vet, or did you learn it elsewhere?"
I pointed at him. This was a much better question.
"Umm, the Agency doesn't really expect its field agents to do a lot of fighting. I did have a week-long training course on pistol shooting and light tactical stuff, but the biggest takeaway from that was that I should save any gun I was carrying for emergencies and always do what my protection agents' tell me to.
"One of my protective agents was, at the time, Inspector Johnson, currently one of our investigators at the DCM Group. That was how we met. He taught me a lot, actually.
"Most of what I know was acquired through magical means. My wife constructed a type of avatar known as a homoculus. It's an avatar that is a sort of messenger being. In this case, the message was all of the magically-collected knowledge in the world about combat. Martial arts, strategy, tactics, etc. Not a whole lot of specific military knowledge, mind, just the direct fighting stuff.
"Now, with all that being said, the single most important thing I know about combat, I learned from Inspector Johnson. And that was two things. The first is specific to combat, and that is that you can't win a fight if you're not an... An asshole."
The crowd laughed. I waited for it to die down.
"That sounds pretty wrong, I know, but it's true. Aggression is the single most important factor in a fight. All things being equal, the more aggressive fighter will always win. And aggression can make up for a lot of other failings, in a pinch. Size, strength, training... Aggression is the real key. And as we all know, the most aggressive people are inevitably assholes. So if you want to be able to defeat a dangerous enemy, you've got to be a bit of an asshole yourself.
"The second thing was probably the single most valuable lesson I ever learned in my entire life. And that is that courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to act in the face of fear. In fact, if you're not afraid, you can't be brave. Every act of bravery, throughout history, was performed by someone who was scared to death.
"I'm not going to lie to you; the first time I found myself in a fight, I peed my pants." The crowd tittered. "No joke, I literally peed my pants. More than once. I cried, too. I panicked. Inspector Johnson was there with me, and I was sooo jealous of how cool he was at the time. It was his actions that got us free of our bonds, and gave us the ability to summon help. After, I remember asking him how he kept from being scared, and I remember his exact words. 'I didn't,' he said.
"He told me that he was scared out of his mind, the same as me. The only difference was that he's been scared like that before. He got used to it. He knew that there were things he could do to mitigate the threat, so he did those things, even though he was still terrified. And as I found myself in more and more dangerous situations, I quickly realized what that meant. It's okay to be afraid. You just gotta be afraid and working."
The crowd erupted into applause as I finished. I blushed, because I hadn't planned on that becoming a rousing anecdote, but I'd take it. The host rose and walked to the podium, waiting for the cheering to stop before speaking.
"That's all the time we have for the Q&A, but Mister and Missus Williams will be available to sign autographs and take photos in the lounge in five minutes. Thank you all for coming out, and let's have a big round of applause for our guests!"
The crowd erupted again, this time even louder. Inanna and I waved to them as we walked off the stage, heading for the crew passageway between the backstage and the lounge. We were about halfway there when the ship lurched suddenly to one side and the sounds of screaming and crashing filled the air.
"What the hell was that?" I gasped as I bounced off the wall -excuse me, bulkhead- and grabbed Inanna's arm to held steady her.
She squeezed her eyes shut. Ever since she'd been murdered literally hundreds of times by Sarisa in order to produce the energies she needed for her plan to save the Sixteenth World, Inanna had been having a lot of difficulty pulling magical energy. She had been steadily training herself ever since, slowly increasing the amount of power she had access to. But the process was a long one.
During that long process, she'd been forced to work with tiny amounts of magic to get stuff done, much like a human wizard would. The end result was that her sensitivity to magic had grown by leaps and bounds. She might not be able to hurl around earth-shattering energies willy nilly any more, but there was nobody I knew, human, god or otherwise, who was as magically perceptive as she was.
"Something big and ancient is here," she said. "A creature."
"Great, another monster crossed over," I grumbled.
"This one didn't cross over, Jerry," she said. "This one is native to this world," she was staring off into space, feeling the creature rather than seeing it.
"It's definitely a fully material being. I feel like it's been to the spirit world, but it's from the material world. I don't think it's from this specific material world, though."
"Crap," I muttered. This was arguably worse than a spirit creature. Those, at least, generally had some kind of weakness. Be it a certain emotion, some variety of magic or some substance or material, spirit creatures almost inevitably had some kind of kryptonite. And I only say 'almost' because I can't be a hundred percent sure. Every single variety that I knew about had such a weakness. But a material being from another of the material worlds would be a flesh and blood creature that had evolved to fill its niche. And evolution is a heartless trainer, accepting no weakness.
The ship jolted again and a fresh round of screaming ensued. There was a definite direction to the screaming, coming from the direction we were heading in, so we began to run.
We came out into the lounge to find people packing themselves in. I grabbed a random person by the shoulder. "What did you see?" I demanded.
"I don't know, man! The ship started jerking, and I saw this shadow and I just grabbed my wife and we ran inside!"
"Stay here," I told him. I moved on, pushing through the crowds to the door. It was hard going, with everyone trying to get inside. Eventually, I got completely stopped by the press of bodies, and I looked up, to see if I could fly above them. The ceiling was too low, of course. If I did that, I'd be flinging people around with the force of my magic, which would get someone hurt. Crap.
"MAKE A FUCKING HOLE!!" Inanna roared.
People jerked in surprise at the volume of the shout, carrying even above the crying and screaming all around us. They quickly moved further into the room, clearing a path for us to the doors.
"Thank you," I said as she took advantage of the extra room to walk beside me instead of behind me. She smiled sweetly and goosed my butt as we moved through the doors, out onto the deck.
Tentacles rose into the air around the ship. People were still about, mostly running for the doors to get inside. I realized, looking at the grandiose size of those tentacles, that it wouldn't do any good. This ship was huge, one of the largest cruise ships on the ocean. It was over a thousand feet long and a quarter of a million tons in volume. There were over four thousand guests on board, and until now, I'd never seen a dense crowd. Wait times for everything were reasonable.
Yet, judging by the size of those tentacles, I worried about the ship sinking.
Inanna pulled up short as she saw it.
"Motherfucker...." she said, then turned to me.
"Jerry, I hope your magical muscles are nice and swole, because we need to start teleporting people to safety right fucking now."
"What is it?" I asked.
"It's a kraken," she said.
"I figured as much, but there's no way we can evacuate this ship in time. I could maybe teleport them a hundred at a time, but even assuming it only takes three minutes to get a hundred people to link hands, that's two hours to get just the passengers. It'll be another forty five minutes for the crew. Whatever this thing is gonna do to the ship, it'll be over by then."
She shook her head. "You don't understand, Jerry. Krakens are mostly legendary in this world. They're not native here, and have only come over through the occasional rift that pops up way down at pressure depth. Most of what you know is complete BS. This is how they hunt. Wales and dolphins are their primary food, but they evolved on a world where humans had large ships full of people sailing the seas twenty thousand years ago, and they've adapted."
The ship jerked again as I watched a massive tentacle wrap completely around it and began to tighten down.
"It's going to break the ship, and then its going to come after the lifeboats. That's its strategy here."
"Crap," I muttered. "You have any ideas?"
"I've never even heard of a ship that survived a kraken attack, Jerry. Ninety percent of the people on board won't, either, and that's the best case. Worst case, everybody dies."
My mind raced. The first thing that occurred to me was the trick I'd used to kill the primordials. But honestly, the primordials were probably smaller than the kraken, and its body was underwater. If I hit the surface of the ocean at those speeds, it would be like a bomb going off. I'd likely just break the ship even quicker.
"I think it's too dangerous for you to do the human bullet thing," she said, her thoughts echoing mine.
"Right," I said. "So, we've got to figure out a way to drive it off. Make it think that it's not worth going after this ship, right?"
"I mean, if you can think of something that might do that, and not destroy the ship, yeah."
I wracked my brain for ideas. Fire was an obvious choice, but the beast's size ruled that out. If I made enough fire to hurt it, I'd damage the ship and probably kill a bunch of people. I watched another tentacle curl around and tighten onto the ship. With the two that had been in place when we got out, that made four. We were running out of time.
"Shit," I swore, using up one of my limited supply for the month. "Baby, I don't know what to do."
"Start teleporting," she said. "We'll save as many as we can."
I winced. Leaving people to die was something I wasn't willing to accept until the last second. Of course, the longer I waited to take that route, the more people I'd have to leave to die. This was the worst sort of calculus I'd ever done, and I always hated math.
I immediately pictured the panic that would happen when I started teleporting people and the rest realized I wouldn't be able to get everyone. It would be chaos.
A younger couple made their way from one of the edges of the ship, heading for the lounge. As they passed us, they stopped.
"You're Jerry and Ishtar Williams, right?" the woman asked.
"Inanna," I said. "Ishtar is the character," I said.
"Right, sorry. Do you know what this thing is?"
Inanna answered for me. "It's a kraken. A real one."
"Why is it attacking the ship?" the man asked.
"It's hunting," I said. Inanna nodded. "It's going to break the ship, then go after the people in the lifeboats," she added.
"Holy shit," the woman gasped. "Can you stop it?"
"Trying to figure out how, right now."
"Can we help?" the man asked. I turned to them. "I don't think so, no."
I kept trying to think as Inanna approached them, realizing I wouldn't get any planning done while answering their questions.
I needed something that would drive the best off, or kill it quickly. Honestly, even if I could blink my eyes and stop its heart, which I didn't think I could, but would try as a backup plan, I think the bulk of the creature might drag the ship under. We needed to get it to let go of the ship. Which went back to what I'd just been thinking, about driving it off.
We needed to hurt it. But I didn't know how to do that without killing people on the ship.
"Shit," I said again. "I don't know how to drive it off without killing people on the ship."
"What do you mean?" the woman asked.
"Everything I can do that would cause it significant enough pain to rethink attacking us would also damage the ship. And I don't dare kill it with its tentacles wrapped around the ship like this, it'll pull us under."
Inanna rounded on me, and I could see she'd had an idea. "What?!" I asked.
"Oh Jerry," she said with a malicious gleam in her eyes. "You're gonna hate this."

2023.06.06 16:14 FangGrip [Offline][Woodbridge VA][LGBTQ+ Friendly][21+][6 PM EST Every Other Saturday][5e] GM looking for 1 Player for existing 5E Midgard setting

Introduction

I am an experienced game master looking for one additional adult player (21+) to join an existing D&D 5e Midgard campaign in the Woodbridge / Dale City area. We will be meeting from 6 PM to 11ish every other Saturday (Next Session is June 17th). The game is a local tabletop game hosted at my home.
I will be making my final decisions by the 9th of June.
It is very likely with all of the stupidity Hasbro has been doing of late that our campaign will transition to the Tales of the Valiant 5e variant being created by Kobold Press once it becomes available. This will be discussed as the campaign continues.
As a way to keep things interesting, I like to have a short adventure that is not related to the campaign when the characters hit a level milestone. We generally have a two or three session experience with a different system each time. This includes a homebrew system we are creating and playtesting.

Rules & Expectations

I hope to have a laid back and inclusive game where all levels of gaming experience, genders, cultures, races, and sexuality are welcome. All that I ask is that you are polite to each other, engaged in the campaign, and try to be proactive. If you are not LGBTQ+ friendly, please do not apply.

Requirements

We will be using D&D Beyond for character creation and management. You will not need to purchase any of the source material as I have an account that will share them with you, once you have joined the campaign. If we do transition to Tales of the Valiant, we will be changing this management to Demiplane as their 5E nexus becomes available. They will have the same sharing ability as D&D beyond , so don't worry.

Setting & Campaign

The setting will be Midgard from Kobold Press, but the themes and goals will be player and character oriented. My play style leans towards plot and narrative driven gaming, with an entertaining amount of puzzles, exploration, and combat. I love getting player input and creativity to help shape and propel the campaign forward. My games have a solid narrative thread that binds them but I never have any qualms about improvising or allowing players the freedom to make the story their own.
The campaign so far deals with an evil book called the Umbral Codex which was split into three parts and hidden away. So far one villain has a third, and a former player character was corrupted when she found the second. Now the third is up for grabs and the party must fight two villains to keep the Codex safe until they can destroy it.

Optional Rules

Experience

I am experienced in quite a few games including D&D (Classic Boxed, 1st Edition, 2nd Edition, 5th Edition), Fate Core, Dresden Files, Alpha Chronicles, FFG Star Wars, World of Darkness (oWOD & nWOD), Aberrant, Palladium Megaverse, Cypher System, Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun, Hackmaster, Top Secret SI, and quite a few others.

Contact Info

Please feel free to contact me on discord ( FangGrip#7572 ) if you are interested in joining or if you have any questions. I would like to have a conversation with all prospective players. This conversation does not guarantee you a slot in the game but will help keep you in mind in case a player chooses to resign or ghost us. There is no impersonal form to fill out, but I will need some basic information.

Thank you for reading this post. I know it's fairly long, but I want to save people time by giving you all the information I can think of to help you determine if we are right for you.

2023.06.06 14:30 Necessary-Cod3720 Why are flying things so goddamn slow?!

I just looked at spelljammer vessels, the fastest being around 70 feet normal speed so 140 every dash if that's even possible to do. Dragons fly super slowly and it makes no sense! How in the world is anyone supposed to get anywhere quickly?! Like you could homebrew some teleportation device or something, but for the most part you're just screwed. And I get that it may be slower in combat due to having to be careful and on guard, but then there should be a rule that makes it so you go faster if you guard less. Like maybe you get ร—2 or x3 speed in exchange for a lower armor class since you're not watching your surroundings? Basically, how do you as a DM solve the speed issue in D&D 5e? I do know that those speeds mainly apply to combat for spelljamming ships which means it isn't that big a problem, but there's nowhere that is says a dragon flies more than it's dashing speed outaide of combat. And even so if a dragon is trying to flee, it can do so but it takes a god damn long time. Like seriously a dragon can't go more than 20mph? How in the fresh hell does that make sense?
Edit: Pirate stoat made a good point for spelljammer ships, especially once I looked up how fast a medieval ship typically went, but at the same time I feel the ship should at least be able to be modified to go faster or have a higher ac or even different weapons. Some customization would be nice. However that still doesn't answer the issue with dragons.

2023.06.06 13:57 SwimmerInitial3516 So I know you all are hoping for underwater combat to come back in the next game, but hear me out, airborne combat

I'm not entirely sure how it would work mechanically. I just had the thought like 5 minutes ago. I feel like we'd need something similar to wire bugs again for it to work well, but I'm sure there are cool ways of doing it. I'm happy to hear ideas on how to make it work though.

2023.06.06 08:14 XEzekiel Miniatures for Call of Cthulhu

I'm just getting into Call of Cthulhu, coming from Dnd 5e, and am looking into getting some miniatures to play the game. I would consider miniature painting/collecting my main hobby over playing games themselves.
I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on minis for CoC, how much you use them generally, which ones you like, which ones you use most frequently in your games etc etc. I know that it is less common to use miniatures in CoC than DnD, being a less combat focused and more mystery/horror.
Some of my ideas for minis to collect
Let me know your thoughts, or if you have other ideas for miniatures that you might use frequently as a keeper

I wanna know your guys ideal monster hunter 6 reveal would be
My hope for the reveal of mh6 is it opens up exactly like mh3u but minus the hunter so it has some people guessing what game it could be because at that point its just fish and the ocean
But then boom lagiacrus Then tremble of the sea and land starts booming and pans over to the hunter fighting it with a new weapon type or maybe tonfas (I really love tonfas) I'm betting on underwater combat is back

2023.06.06 06:57 EldridSmith Help Finding a new system

My party and I are trying to find a system somewhere between pathfinder and DnD 5e, as I love pathfinder and all of it's option and complexity but many of my friends want something simple (but more complex than dnd 5e or should I say with more options than 5e). They have done alright with pathfinder but we want a system that can let those of us who like having a ton of options and things to work with being able to do that and for those who want something simple, they also have that.
We've played Pathfinder, DnD 5e, and Savage worlds.
Savage worlds: WAY too simple and we disliked having to pick between skills and combat skills though we liked the options. (It's been 2 years so I'm a tad rusty to explain)
DnD 5e: Still too simple and the severe lack of choices compared to Savage worlds and pathfinder.
Pathfinder: We love that we have options but it's too much for new players who are somewhat overwhelmed by all sheer amount of options and the amount of work it puts on the GM.

The adventure will be a one-shot entitled 'Manor Heist', written by gabmapsandstories. It's approximately equivalent to LVL 1 D&D 5e Characters. You'll be tasked with infiltrating and stealing some important things from a Lord's guarded manor by planning, preparing, and executing a heist.
At this stage in the playtesting, I'd like to try to have player's make characters on their own by filling in a sheet inside Roll20, using and referencing the PDF written rules without help (or any Youtube tutorials). I'll of course also have some premades ready as well, help if needed, and will go over characters to finalize with everyone before we start. Roll20 will have the full guidelines and sheets once inside the game. It will be no-magic (though the setting has magic), focusing mostly on non-combat skill system (but still with some optional combat).
If interested shoot me a message! Look forward to gaming! We have 2 players so far.

2023.06.06 06:11 EldridSmith Help Finding a new system

My party and I are trying to find a system somewhere between pathfinder and DnD 5e, as I love pathfinder and all of it's option and complexity but many of my friends want something simple (but more complex than dnd 5e or should I say with more options than 5e). They have done alright with pathfinder but we want a system that can let those of us who like having a ton of options and things to work with being able to do that and for those who want something simple, they also have that.
We've played Pathfinder, DnD 5e, and Savage worlds.
Savage worlds: WAY too simple and we disliked having to pick between skills and combat skills though we liked the options.
DnD 5e: Still too simple and the severe lack of choices compared to Savage worlds and pathfinder.
Pathfinder: We love that we have options but it's too much for new players who are somewhat overwhelmed by all sheer amount of options and the amount of work it puts on the GM.

2023.06.06 05:56 Successful_Student66 [5e] [Flexible] [CST] [LGBTQ Friendly][Online] I want YOU to play D&D with me at your earliest convenience

Hi, my name is Morghyn (He/Him), I've been playing D&D 5e for the past 9 years of my life. Recently, I've begun the search to find a group to play with but have been mostly unsuccessful (without becoming the GM of the group by mistake).
I'm willing to play any game so long as it's a pre-developed system, and some of the games I've been wishing to play outside of 5e are Mutants and Masterminds, Pathfinder, Starfinder and Call of Cthululu. As I said before, I'm more than willing to play whatever system or whatever role the party requires both in roleplay and in combat.

That is all, thanks for sticking through with me and reading this, if you're interested in having myself in your group contact me either in the replies to this post, message me directly, or message me on Discord at "Bitter of VII#5065".

2023.06.06 05:20 hielispace Rogue, having no resource to manage in a resource management game, seems like a miss to me.

Every other class in the game has some sort of resource management built in. And by r mean is that every class has features that can only be used a certain number of times per short or long rest. Literally all the other classes have resources to manage. Artificers have spell slots, Barbarians have rage, bards have spells, and bardic inspiration, cleric also has spells, so do druids, fighters have action surge and second wind, etc. Rogues are the only class without this. Only one core class feature has any sort of restriction based around rests, it's their Capstone Stroke of Luck. All other features can be done entirely without regard to resting.
Now, different classes having different amounts of dependency on resting is a good thing. It helps each class feel unique (even if the short rest charge one's are more problematic for reasons that are interesting their own right but not my focus here). But Dnd, for better and for worse, is largely about the managing of these resources throughout an adventuring day. Rogues, beyond getting their hit points back, just don't interface with this at all.
I think this really hurts the class. Action surge, as an example, is an insanely powerful feature. Turning 1 attack into 2, or 2 into 4, and so on is a very, very large bump in damage for that round. That doesn't even include the sheer versatility that two actions in a row can offer. This feature is limited by the fact that you only get to use it once per short rest, so you can't just spam it. Having two uses of action surge for one fight is so powerful that they save it for the Fighters 17th level feature in 5e. No Rogue feature can be that powerful because they can all be done, given the conditions are right, literally every single round of combat ever. You can (and usually do) sneak attack every round, so sneak attack can't be as good as action surge. This makes the class necessarily weaker than others when they have those strong features online. The trade-off is that Rogues are more consistent, they can just do their thing forever. But the thing is, the rest of the party all want to take rests, so that doesn't usually play out. If a 5e party is so battered, the Wizard is reduced to just casting cantrips, and then a new combat starts everyone is probably going to die. So for the vast majority of combats, where the rest of the party isn't literally running on empty the Rogue is going to suffer.
The thing I'm advocating for is not to nerf the Rogue by making sneak attack or whatever something they need to spend resources for, absolutely not. It's for the Rogue to get new features that give them some resource to manage. Maybe free advantage on attacks rolls prof/long rest, or just a free bump in damage a certain number of times, or rerolls on skill checks or something to bring the power level of the Rogue up and give them a reason to want to rest like literally every other class in the game.
I'm primarily a DM, and I often see Rogue players not quite happy with the class, I think giving them play into the resource management game in the game that is primarily about resource management would help. Plus, the class could use some buffs anyway.

2023.06.06 04:37 Luigifan18 SRB2 Add-on Idea: Prince Garcia

This is actually the first add-on idea I've been considering for SRB2 โ€” yes, I was brainstorming this before I was brainstorming the Belnades Sisters. This is one of my very first Mario/Sonic OCs, and fair warning here, he's a bit OP. The character in question is Garciaโ€ฆ Garcia the Beanie Baby. Yes, I'm serious. (I'd have put up a link to Garcia's profile on Ty's website, but he's not there anymore.) Anyways, Garcia in my fanfics is a lot more than a teddy bear โ€” he's a powerful pyrokinetic capable of giving Blaze a run for her money. So, here are some details on how he'd play.

2023.06.06 04:29 Pyrotrout If you're new to Pathfinder 2e, let me help create a cheat sheet for your character!

Let me introduce myself: I've been a D&D 5e dm for close to 5 years and have made the migration to Pathfinder 2e in the last year.
I've recently started a new campaign with several newer players to the system and they have been struggling with knowing what choices to make, what they can do well in combat, and how they might fit into the rest of the party composition.
I decided to create several cheat sheets, detailing the high level strategy of their character concept, as well as providing information and tips about other parts of their character's kit. I enjoyed the process enough that I wanted to extend my help to the rest of the PF2E who have helped me learn this great game.
The ask from you is simple:
  1. DM me a link to a character sheet in whatever form (Pathbuilder, pdf, etc...)
  2. Tell me what is your character concept, what excites you and what sort of feats do you want to be capable of?
  3. If you know, what are the classes/concepts for the rest of your party
  4. This does not need to be for a level 1 character either, I'm happy to review character concepts of any level.
Pending my schedule, since it did take some time to create them, I will reply back to your comment with a link to my recommendations and a general strategy for your character. First come first serve!

2023.06.06 04:07 gamemaster76 [5e] [Online] [6:30 PM EST] [Mon, Thu] Looking for GM and players for Eberron campaign.

I've been wanting to play in the Eberron setting for a long time now and I my schedule has finally opened up enough for an extra game!
I'm typically available on Monday and Thursday evenings after 6:30 PM EST.
I prefer playing bi-weekly (every two weeks, not the other bi-weekly) at least.
I've been a player since 2018 and a DM since 2020 so I know my way around 5e. (Also avid homebrewer).
My play style tends to be combat oriented but I want to practice RP as well.
I don't mind if it's one of the official adventures or a homebrew campaign.
I also have the Exploring Eberron and Chronicles of Eberron supplements from Keith Baker, Eberrons creator and have added everything from Exploring to Dndbeyond, although I don't have the master subscription to share it easily.

2023.06.06 02:58 NumberOk9822 [Online][5e][Fridays 7pm CST] Fresh campaign looking for 4-5 players

Hello adventurers! I'm about to start running a new D&D 5e campaign and I'm looking for dedicated, players ready to dive into the magical world of DnD. This campaign will be mainly geared toward newcomers to D&D as a way to introduce them to the game, so the pace of the game won't be a fit for seasoned veterans.
We'll be using one of the official modules to get everyone comfortable with the 5e system, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all. The adventure will begin in the next week or so, with weekly sessions lasting around 4 hours on average, starting at 7pm CST on Fridays. We'll be using Discord, DnD Beyond and a Virtual Table Top (VTT) for our sessions.
As a DM, I'm a big believer in the power of collaborative storytelling, roleplay, and character development while making ample room for a balanced mix of role-play, combat, and light-hearted humor. I try my best to place a particular emphasis on immersive gameplay, integrating unique game elements and character backstory into the plot when possible. I also adhere to the "Rule of Cool" to ensure fun and engaging experiences.

2023.06.06 02:35 Voltiashima Circle of the Watchers (WIP)

So in 5th edition, as many of us are aware. Druids are underplayed, underrated and in some but not all cases, underpowered.
Iโ€™m entering a new campaign where my DM allowed us (several months in advance) to make homebrew stuff and ofc it will need to be adjusted along the way. This is what I have come up with.
Please note that this is a draft. Changes will be made before I start this new campaign.
((Notes: made for 5E and I recommend you ask your DM to see if your Druid can wear metal if you want as it does make sense for them to buy isnโ€™t part of the desc - my dm came up with a new type of metal that druids can use native to the Fey wilds))
Name: Circle of the Watchers
Desc: Circle of the watchers connect through the earth on an inner level, they study and organise their thoughts towards their surroundings, following a cycle of nature. Birth, Learn, Adapt, Tradition and Survival.
Level 2 features:
Learning Journal of Shifting - Starting at level 2, during downtime, you may focus on summoning or making a magical journal. The journal holds an amount of pages equal to your wisdom and proficiency bonus combined. Whilst holding the journal you gain the following.
Birth of a faithful companion
Your journal evolves and brings to life a Faithful Companion. You can describe what it looks like or use the table provided below. The Creature follows a particular set of rules as seen below. - The creature is classed as small - Not capable of speech. However, you can telepathically communicate with the creature if it is within 120ft - Walk speed of 30ft. - Actions and movements are separate from the player - 20 HP - Same Core Stats as Player - Obeys the player - In combat dodge action is taken every turn (unless wildshaped) - If the creature falls to 0 HP, it dies instantly and can be resummoned by completing a 4-hour summoning ritual whilst resting. Your Journal must be present to conduct this ritual. - As an action or bonus action the companion can assume the form of any creature that has been written in the Players Journal. This is treated as wildshape - classed as a beast for all spell-related situations regardless of appearance
Faithful Companion Style Table Roll (1D6) Outcome 1 A small, green, slime 2 A small, grey, quadrupedal cloud 3 A small, red, robot 4 A small, purple, Lizard 5 A small, yellow, snake 6 A small, orange, snail
Natural Way of Survival Spell Absorption Level 6 When seeing a spell being cast, you may study how to use it but at a percentage of its strength. the spell is added to your spell list and does not count as a prepared spell. They are counted as a druid spell for you however you must still use the original casting type (INT, WIS, CHA) that was used when viewing it.
When activating this feature to learn a spell, roll a D10 and multiply the result by 10.
Role all spells like normal however afterwards, deduct the given percentage from: (rounding up or down if a decimal is to the DMโ€™s discretion) - Healing spells - The amount of health given lowered by the percentage - Concentration - maximum duration of spell lowered by the percentage - Damaging spells - outputted damage lowered
Level 10 Features:
Adaptive Shaping
Your knowledge of shifting deepens. As an action OR bonus action you can choose to: - When using your wildshape feature on yourself, choose to only take 1 feature (ability or stat) from the target, keeping you stats. - When your Faithful Companion is wildshaping, it can now assume Your humanoid form for 1 minute. In combat, you share a movement speed however have separate actions and reactions. Your Companion can now talk for the wild shape duration. Your Companion does not have any Bonus Actions. - You may now rip out a journal page and give it to another creature. When the journal page is ripped or torn by a creature, it transforms into the creature on the page. If the creature is unwilling it can make a CON saving throw against your spell DC, on a success it losses it's action. On a loss it assumes the from for half the wildshape time.
This feature can only be used a number of times equal to: 1 + your Wisdom (WIS) Modifier. All expended uses are reset on a long rest.
((Note: You can only use one of these features per turn in battle))
Level 14 feature
Tradition of The Watchers
Evolve your tradition! Upon unlocking this feature, you may choose 2 options between Abberations, Constructs, Dragons, Elemental, Fey, Fiend, Giant, Ooze, Plant or Undead, You can, abiding by the Expanded Journal Table below and wildshape restrictions, write these creatures into your Journal.
Over the course of 8-Hours rest, you may change 1 of these options to another option. ((Note: you cannot wildshape directly into these creatures))
Expanded Journal Table
Aberrations, Constructs and dragons
Follow the "Monstrosity" Guidelines given in your "Learning Journal of Shifting" Feature. Half the amount of time you can stay shifted
Elementals, Fey, Fiends, Plants and Undead
-CR of 1/2 or below are treated as beasts for you. -Above 1/2, Follow the "Monstrosity" Guidelines given in your "Learning Journal of Shifting Feature
Ooze
Ooze are beasts for you
Giants
Giants are counted as humanoids for you
Sorry for the long messages. Canโ€™t wait for some replies. Also sorry if the format is weird. I copy pasted most of this from my notes.
