Recently been on the lookout for a replacement to my T450s, as it's performance and battery life is subpar at this point. I stumbled on a used X1 Carbon on Facebook marketplace here in Denmark. i7 8550, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB with Windows 11 installed for (equivalent to) 350 USD, which to me sounds like a good deal.
There are no 7 dollar T480 here in Denmark (lol), a T480 usually go for a similar price as this one, 290 USD is the best I've found a decent looking T480 for.
Overall I want a good, solid replacement for my T450s for the next many years to come. Is this a good deal? Anything I should consider that I might have overlooked? Is it better to send a little extra on a newer generation of the X1 carbon?

However the buyer is very insistent on using Paypal to send me the money, and since it's such a large amount I'm worried that they can undo the transfer as soon as I drive away or something. Is there a way to scam people on Paypal like that? I haven't used it much so I don't know the ins and outs. Is it safe for a transaction of this size? Any tips? Thank you!

My dad gave me 200 quid for a new phone as an early birthday present, so I got one off of Facebook marketplace (yipeee). It's surprising how much you rely on your phone. Couldn't do any banking or anything without it.
I have changed my locks now after two nights of just barricading the door. Police have been no help. As someone suggested, I mentioned CCTV in a reply to them, yet I've had no response yet.
But seriously, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone. You all are legends. I honestly just hoped someone would drop in like "saw your phone in cex" or something. Its not been turned on for 4 days however, so I'm thinking that it's either going to appear in another country in a week or be in the harbour.

Everything works and i make sure to keep everything as authentic possible. (Even when outsourcing parts). Except for the shells themselves because there can be some really cool custom shells. This guy harassed me because he claimed that i buy aftermarket JoyCons and pass them off as authentic. I was honestly taken aback by all this because i provide photos to show it's authenticity. Even in my listing i imply that only the shells themselves are the only things that are aftermarket. To prove what i do is legit i even attached a photo of me disassembling a right joycon (last photo). My job uses vCenter, ESXi, and Horizon but as helpdesk I'm not allowed to do much. Not spinning anything up and learning. Plus everyone's busy so getting time to be trained on the higher level stuff is tough. But love the job and learning a lot as is, just want to learn more. I digress.
These are the parts I have picked out
This T7910
Going to replace the 8 core cpus with 2 of these 18 core Xeon E5-2697 V4. A bios upgrade likely will be needed.
6 of these 2400t-RB1-11 32gb ram sticks for 192gb of additional ram.May leave the 16 the server comes with in or take it out. Doesn't say how many sticks are in as is so depends on that. Understanding timings make my brain hurt as well, hope these are ok.
All this comes out to 500 before tax. Prices are obviously a bit variable of course depending on supply. Locally nothings on craiglist/facebook marketplace/govdeals. Rarely does good priced tech stuff pop up here on any of these.
But sounds like a good starting point or no? I picked these parts out by reading various reddit threads. The cpus are compatible with ESXi 8.0 U1 and 8.0. I realize I should ask what power supply that server has, the cpus it come with are 85w TDP and the ones I want to upgrade to are 145w TDP. It's not listed so will contact seller. According to this it can have up to a 1300w supply. But let me know if there's anything else I'm not thinking of.
