Hi all- I recently got a new job (NYC), and my base salary increased about $11,000 from my last job (also located in NYC). However, when I received my first paycheck, it was only about $200 more compared to my last jobs paycheck. Paychecks are issued semi-monthly.
What’s stranger is that the new job covers benefits 100% - last job I paid extra for benefits. Especially with this in mind, I would think the increase per paycheck would have been substantially higher. Further, I’m still within the same tax bracket.
What can I be missing here? Although I’m salaried, the “hourly rate” and hours worked were correct. I just can’t seem to figure out where all my money is going.

Hello, I am 38 and I got what the doctor said to ve a large umbilical hernia. Told me the scare will be small but the mesh will be pretty big.
I googled about the mesh and it seems scary what can happen to me later. I heard some people die later from the mesh and I am terrified what is gonna happen if they install wrong and it drifts. Like how soon do I have before I notice I need to go to the doctor to fix it. Or will it be too late. Or what if it breaks into pieces.
This is a simple surgery concerning they removed ny bursted appendix last year but this seems more terrifying, especially since the mesh can fail at anytime?
I also want to lose some weight but the doctor told I should wait 2 months before trying to work out. Can I do normal exercises after 2 months or do I avoid sit ups and other ab exercises forever?
Any advice or something, so I can relax? Or am I justified in feeling thus way and will be living in fear for most of my life?

Hey guys and gals. I'm new to rockhounding and am currently obsessed with finding crystalline rocks but I suck at identifying them. I used my school email to make this account. Backstory: (Western NY) The area I live in has extremely heavy clay based soil and alot of springs and gas reserves. Water is rust tinted by iron deposits and theres alot of igneous rocks deposited (pretty sure by glacial activity). My family is having a large pond dug and I encountered a boulder like nothing I've seen locally. One side of it has reddish & dark grey crystals all interlaced. They are easily broken off and its almost like a crust on the rock. I should be able to take pictures later on today if anyone is interested in helping me identify it. My second question is this: what should I get to evenly cut rock. I see such clean cuts on the rock faces that you post, but I have no idea where to look for such a tool. Thanks in advance!

I spent many a months deployed in Iraq on a base surrounded by burn pits.
I do not recall the sky ever being truly blue, it was always hazy, and the sun was often blotted like it is now.
The acidic smell in the air actually triggered a response stimuli this morning as my lungs became "reminiscent" of this experience.
I am on the burn pit registry now (thanks John Stewart) but for the rest of y'all...stay inside lol.
I see many comments online saying "this is just Canada and temporary" and it's like...this is our new reality everywhere. Massive fires consuming the land, blocking out the sun, and filling the air with gifts of toxic pollutants. 🌍

I have no regrets on my service, and am glad I am no protected by the VA Healthcare, but no one should have to live permanently with lungs damaged by intrepid air.

The session ends on Friday, so there is still time for it to pass and to rise against climate destruction.

Hi all, I'm hoping for a bit of perspective regarding my cat (approximately 17-19 years, neutered male American shorthair, about 10 lbs). I'm in NY but not the city.
He has hyperthyroidism and started on twice-daily Methimazole Anhydrous (5mg) about 2 weeks ago. He also gets twice daily 5mg milk thistle, and once daily Cosequin in his food (dry kibbke wet with water in the morning and 11+ senior food with some kibble at night), and is getting Solensia treatments monthly after a month on once daily liquid Gabapentin 5mg.
Last night, his right ear seemed to be bothering him and he was walking around with his head low and his ear cocked, but he let me take a look at it and it seemed to go away. I found a spot sometime later of brown liquid vomit, about the the color of melted chocolate. It was the only spot like that that I've ever seen.
This morning, within the span of about an hour, he's thrown up four times: once with a small hairball and yellow bile, once with yellow bile, once lightly tinter yellow with white foam, and once clear.
I've got him eating a bit of food with more water than usual to get something into his system to see how he does before I give him his breakfast and meds.
I'm already thinking we need to go to the vet no matter what, but any thoughts as to what I might hear will be appreciated.

We're both college students from the east coast, decided to spend our summer break in LA because my friends' cousins used to live near Downtown LA and Beverly Hills, and she said she wanted to retrace the steps of her childhood. Both of our moms plans to visit us and maybe hang out together for a month, so the trip's highly likely to be foursome.
But me being an Asian-American my friend mentioned, being worried, that she heard LA had quite some troubles & hate crimes involving Asians after COVID. Not particularly hate crimes, but the overall safety has gone.. well, bye-bye.
People say that carjacking and all these 'petite-crime' rates have gone up nationwide, not just west coast, after many lost their jobs due to COVID but we didn't really notice any increased threats whilst running around in NY.
We're not so little, both over 5'6 but quite ..thin? And we plan to stay at only 5 star hotels, using public transportation mainly and maybe 2 weeks of rental-car road trip. I'm not worried about parking in big shopping malls or any building with CCTVs but our road trip to Vegas sounds a bit.. dangerous after hearing concerns about walking around late at night in beach areas.

Our concern is if the east coast or midwest is a better fit for 4 women with umm... how should I put this nicely... huge interest in fashion (?). My friend's mom already gave us some money for our trip because she didn't want to drive around in a honda. *cough*
Yeah so... you get the idea. Is it less dangerous to walk around in silk dresses or just shorts..? It'd be the best if we just walk around rodeo drive for a week straight but we kinda want to explore around a bit.
Can you recommend some areas that we need to avoid? And is it indeed not so safe for two young girls and two moms to navigate through?
