This took an unbearable amount of time, sorry, I was busy with tests and you know… school stuff, it's not looking good for my writing, I pretty much only have free time with my phone for only 2 hours a day except for weekends. As a compensation for the ridiculous amount of time this chapter took, it's going to be extra long, and have action parts again (kind of) and some gore, enjoy!

"What was it again?"
"Schen- i mean Schon"
"Right, what got you here, near the edge and all? It's a nice edge, but still an edge"
"Desperate for work I guess, I assume you're the same?"
Schon… no, Schen… answered as he took a sip out of his drink, it isn't as bad as he thought it would be, it's sweet, and at least it isn't recycled water.
"Kind of, I just work here because… well… my skill set isn't impressive"
"A loader, no? All that work in the cargo bay?"
"Yeah, what does it feel like being an SC?"
"Being a security captain feels…"
Schen took a glance at his tag, hidden beneath his shirt and new uniform, a piece of memory and evidence of who he once was.
"...familiar"
"Oh yeah… aren't you an ex-mil?"
"I am"
"Why did you quit?"
"It's… it got a bit too mu it can ch for me, though i do miss my team, best few people i've ever worked with"
"Good terms?"
"Brothers, live by them, die by them, not literal on the latter of course, but it can happen, too bad we're disbanded now"
"Why?"
"Let's just say they don't wanna work without their favorite captain"
"Oh… Where are they now?"
"Living their best life with their family i hope, least there's nothing to threaten their lives there"
"Why don't you go back to yours?"
"Don't have one, too old to return back home and do nothing, and too old to find a mate, kinda missed my chance back then"
"And you're satisfied with just being an SC in a random cargo ship that visits edge territories?"
"It's still something, besides, i've got more than enough experience for it… hmm… lunch's over, good talk"
"Looks like it is, nice to know you… Schon?"
He nodded in confirmation, and went to pay for his lunch. It was decent, but he'd rather have it stale than having to actually pay, he can't believe he actually missed those stale rations. Perhaps because he was used to it, old habits and preferences are hard to shake off, they said. He went back to his post, just a little room filled with camera monitors with a teeny tiny armory next to it. Genuinely, it looked pathetic next to the military armory he was used to.
But the weapons were familiar, kind of, just lacking the usual stopping power and attachments of the ones he used to have. After the (unfortunate) disbanding of his team and his (honorable) discharge from the military as well as the new (rather stupid if you ask him) identity of Schon, he was desperate for work. It's his fault really, he should've been at home enjoying the rest of his life now that that Schen technically no longer exists.
But the soldier in him wanted to do something, so he did, and now here he is, a simple SC in a cargo ship, which took an unnecessary amount of effort, as apparently the union was still somewhat skittish about the video he broadcasted before he went on the temporary desertion, but now that he knows everything, it doesn't really matter. It isn't bad by any means, but it ain't the military, and the more he worked the more he wished for a pirate attack. He also just missed being together with his team, but alas, they have their own lives, so he had to let them go, though he does have their contact number saved on his personal datapad.
He turned on the only monitor inside his room that isn't used to look through a camera, and looked for anything interesting in the network. Interesting as in any news regarding the 'Goels' and their recent introduction, he had been keeping a close eye on it. He doesn't need to, it isn't his business anymore and if he tried to make it his business again he can expect agents on his tail, but since he was heavily involved anyway, he thought why not as well do it. And it was just fine so far, though he has no clue how the green one, Abel if his memory serves him, turned from a drone to… well… that.
He learned a bit about who humans are, and what humanity was like, before it went away and was 'replaced' by the Goels. And as far as he knows they're dead, like extinct dead, so obviously the appearance of the cheery human male that acted as the Goel ambassador shocked him. He still has no clue now, though his theory as to how essentially boils down to 'ancient civilization fuckery'. And as far as he can tell, there's no problem with that, yet, the discussions were relatively smooth if the news were to be trusted and the council seems to actually starting to trust the Goels, kind of.
He browsed through the tabs and websites, most of which he already read and glossed over.

No surprise there, no man or woman in the council wanted to pass up such a deal.

Now that's interesting, and frankly worrying, he didn't get to see the full broadcast yesterday, actually he missed most of it, so he didn't get to see what happened.
"What happened to you?"
He mumbled as he read the article and looked at the pictures and videos of the accident. Unknown cause, immediately escorted, and the sudden silence from the Goels, and it has been for almost half a cycle now. Strange, he looked through the video again, watched how Abel behaved, and noted the many oddities present. He seemed just fine, just giving his presentation to the council as professional as one can be as an ambassador and then suddenly he just… dropped, he thought about exhaustion at first, but the longer he thinks about it the dumber it gets.
No way the current Abel is human, he was explicitly told by him that there are no humans left, so what is it?. He couldn't come up with anything, but kept it in mind as he looked for more info on the current situation. It wasn't long until he realized there's nothing else he can learn and turned off the computer. He looked at the time, and suddenly remembered something vital, alcohol break, he reached down under his desk and took out a bottle, the very same one that he took to the desert planet with him.
No shot glass no problem, he popped the cap off and drink straight from the bottle, not very classy but whatever. He hid it back under the desk and walked out of his office now that he actually remember something actually vital, his men. The security team more precisely, and he's the current captain, someone's had to check on them. He ran into one guard waiting around the cafeteria and greeted them.
"All good?"
"All good, no danger"
"Yet, keep an eye out, and if you can, help anyone in need, being a security isn't just about holding weapons and warding off pirates, you should know that by now"
"Yes sir, sorry"
"Sigh i've worked with trainees that are better than this"
He grumbled as he left to look for another man to inspect. His new subordinates are… a particular group. Some of them take the job seriously, some are a bit more relaxed but still vigilant, but most, like the one he just gave a mouthful to is God awful, improper stance, manners, no incentives, and utterly basic in weapon mastery. He has to cut them some slack, they're just basic security after all, not soldiers, but still. He ran into a more favorable one patrolling the hallway leading to the reactor, he actually knows this one's name, Koern, a Civean, and he couldn't be more glad he actually got a salute from him.
"Greetings, Captain Schon, is there any problem?"
"It's Sche- i mean… yes thank you, and no, there's no problem, just daily inspection"
"I see, how do I do?"
"As usual, very good, keep It up"
"Thank you sir… sir can i ask you something? I've been considering looking for you but now you're here…"
"Sure, i can spare some time"
"Can I request a leave from you sir?"
"I can if there are valid reasons"
"I've requested it to the captain, but all she said is that i should ask you first"
"I see, but what's the reason?"
"Family matter, I have a relative on a planet named Rosan IV, ever heard of it?"
"Isn't that the newly built colony planet?"
"It is, a much better built colony compared to the rest, new union projects and all that stuff, my cousin signed up for it, we've been communicating just fine so far, until a few days ago"
"What happened?"
"I don't know, he just went… silent, i thought okay, maybe he's busy or there's a problem with the communication there, so i just waited, but it has been too long now, usually he sends a message almost daily, now there's nothing"
"I don't think you need to ask for a leave in that case"
"Why?"
"Rosan IV is in the list of destination of this ship, station building material shipping, after this one we should be on the way there"
"Oh thank God, i knew i should've checked the list"
"Well… this is an edge operating ship, you know? In that case, all you'll need is a shore leave on any station there, short but should be enough for you to check in on your cousin"
"That's all i need sir, thank you"
"Of course, now continue your work, we'll be there before you know it"
"Yes sir"
Schen walked away with a little curiosity in his mind, Rosan IV huh? isn't that the planet that's been really silent? He remembered a conversation at the cafeteria, a few people were talking about it. Some talk about how stupid of a project it was, how it was no different than any other colony, a 'gold plated' lie if you will. But most were talking about how it became a 'ghost' of sorts, communications fell, ships that come and go there go missing, a few creepy tales here and there, it was almost a horror story.
He doubted it, such an ambitious project is bound to have some issues, there's a huge price for luxury, and that price is probably hitting right now. Which made him worried a little, a new colony is a gold mine for pirates and raiders, that was probably the price, pirate intervention. But if all goes well, it shouldn't be that bad, no way those ridiculous stories are real…. Maybe.

Rana sat down on his padded seat, in his room, in his literal castle, thinking, not about anything in particular, but just thinking. And maybe glossing over his new arm again, to be in awe again, he still doesn't know how the movement is that smooth. Pearl white, shaped just like his other arm, even has the claws, and probably smoother in terms of movements than his actual arm despite being a prosthetic. It has been quite a while since his particular experience on that planet, and the prosthetic is still not showing any issue, any normal prosthetic would break down or need maintenance after this long of a time.
It's also… self repairing? He's not sure if he's hallucinating, but he's pretty sure the arm rebuilt itself after he accidentally bumped it into something hard. A small piece of the outer casing fell off, he didn't pay much attention to it, until it disappeared minutes after when he tried to look at it to see how bad it was. All in all, a new experience, awe inducing and a bit scary, would be really nice too, if it wasn't for-
"Rana"
"AAH! Oh… dad…"
-That, his father.
"It's time to-"
"Look at my arm and pry it open, i know"
"Good, let's-"
"But why?"
"Sigh Rana, we had this conversation before, you know the reasons"
"Well I don't want to care about it!"
"It's for our people…"
"No, it's for yourself! Come on dad! Don't you hear what they said? What did they offer? They gave us everything!"
"No one in this universe, organic or not, is stupid enough to give away vital information and material to someone else they just met, they must be hiding something"
"So they're lying, is that it?"
"Yes, i… we believe so"
"Okay, give me a reason why they're lying"
"That's what a dumb leader would do"
"Oh please, don't act like dad's not just another servant to the matriarch"
"She's your grandma"
"Doesn't change anything dad, and no, i don't like laying on a bed while people i don't know try to pry open my arm"
"Sigh does that mean you don't-"
"No"
"Fine… as you wish… but i hope you can understand"
"I already understand, and i don't like it"
"....."
Rana heard his room's door opening and then closing behind him, and sighed. Life hasn't been the same since he returned, his father has been a lot more serious, he can understand that, it makes sense. But he had been putting him into these weird 'inspections' ; they weren't inspections, they were straight up experiments, to try and pry open his new arm. That was how he discovered the last strange and fascinating thing about it, it can feel pain.
He remembered how everyone in the room froze when he screamed in pain, they were bewildered. It was only when he kicked the person inserting some sort of needle-like thing into the gaps of his prosthetic in the face that they knew what was happening. And yet, knowing what it does, his father still insists they do more of his experiments. It doesn't seem to matter how many anesthetics, painkillers and other treatments have been done, he can still feel the pain, it pops up from time to time, sometimes waking him from his sleep.
It was not something he wants to go through again, even if he's unconscious during the operation. At Least it isn't everyday he gets 'inspected' thanks to someone who dislikes the idea as much as he did. Rana heard his door open again, and smiled knowing who it was.
"Rana? Honey? There you are…"
"Hey mom…"
"Have you eaten yet?"
"Mom, a servant came here an hour ago, bringing the food, of course i did"
"Good, something to help you recover"
"Mom, I'm good, okay?"
"Nonsense…"
She gave him a pat and a scratch on the head, his favorite guilty pleasure. He always feels like he's still a child everytime she does it, and not a grown man, but it would be a total lie to say he doesn't like it.
"You need energy to recover from that"
She tapped his prosthetic.
"It's not like it's gonna grow back…"
"One can hope, it's terrible what happened to you"
"Well, it's okay now, they redeemed themselves"
"Hmph… no one's hurting my boy, no one, not even a sentient AI from a different era of the universe"
"Thanks mom… But i don't think you're fit enough to fight Cain"
"I'll beat him with my motherly aura, the thing he's missing, anyway, how's your arm, darling?"
"It's fine… still hurts sometimes"
"Sigh if only your father would listen, him and his ridiculous experiments, what's in that arm anyway?"
"Technology used by a race that defied time…"
"Doesn't justify him doing those things to you… he's been here, doesn't he?"
"He just left"
"Hmm…. You two had a talk?"
"He's just here to… you know what he does"
"Well glad to know he doesn't get through with it today, alright sweetie, just here to check up on you"
"Mom, i'm not a boy anymore"
"A boy you are not, you are a grown man, but my boy you are, and always will be, see you tomorrow honey"
"Stay safe"
"Always…"
Well that doesn't last long, Rana thought as his mother left the room, that's one of the issues they had since forever, she is always very busy. Because unlike father she's not the type to just sit behind a desk and give out orders, she's a lot more active, and caring at that. His father is the supreme general, sure, but Rana always looked up to her more, and her job as the health minister. She's always on a trip to visit hospitals all around the union and other things he doesn't know much about. And of course, unlike his father, that means she's not always home, shame.
Rana thought about it, and suddenly remembered his interaction with Lnaia that night when he first woke up to discover his arm missing. He never told it to her, but the reason she felt familiar is that both her and his mother have the same job, making sure of people's wellbeing. He thought maybe she would know, but maybe not everyone knows that the current Qrid health minister is married to the supreme general, it isn't exactly a super popular thing.
Sometimes Rana gets reminded of who his parents were everytime he looks at any news regarding the Goels, about Cain and Abel. Just how unironically similiar they are, to be so far apart in mindset and goals and yet so close to each other through love… well… atleast Cain and Abel did, he's not so sure about his parents, not anymore.

Faen sat in his office, stressed out of his mind, everything has been a mess, Abel's incident at the councillor station, the countless interviews asking for his opinion, it was, somehow, getting a bit too much. Faen expected everything, but Abel passing out in the middle of a speech for no reason is not one of them, and for the Goels to go completely silent after, just what in the world is happening?. He doesn't like it, he doesn't like being out of control, out of the know, not knowing anything makes him uncomfortable, knowing that it can decide the fate of his kind made it near unbearable.
He founds himself scratching his own desk with his claws from all the stress, he stopped, and sighed as he brushed off the wood chips. Maybe he should he take his medications again, he opened a drawer on his desk and took out a small plastic container with labels on it, a medication for high blood pressure, he took one pill and set it back inside the drawer.
"Still on your meds, love?"
A voice came out of nowhere, it trigerred his instinct to reach for the concealed handgun next to him, but as he aimed towards whoever's in front of him, he realized it was a mistake.
"Yana…"
"Still as nimble as i remember, though you got a bit stiff on the arms there"
"I thought you already left…"
"Come on Faen, both you and i know i wouldn't leave without at least saying goodbye to you"
"Is that all you're here for?"
He said as he put the gun away, coming back to a more calm demeanor.
"Of course not, i'm here to check up on our son, and talk to you"
He raised his eyebrow a bit at that.
"Rare…"
"Not as rare as you making a call to me, we need to talk Faen"
"About?..."
"Sometimes i wonder if you take all the medicine i prescribed for you…of course about our son!"
"Sigh is this about-"
"Yes! What makes you think it's a good idea to probe our son like he's some sort of foreign creature?"
"I've taken every precaution, he's been given anesthetics and-"
"Oh i don't care, it's not about how bad of a pain he's experiencing, or how subdued it is so it's not dangerous, this is about him experiencing it in the first place! that's not supposed to happen!"
"Yana, please, we have the best doctors working on him"
"Well I don't believe you…"
"Why?"
"Because I'm the health minister and I need to see their license, and if I don't… i see them as unqualified as to even hold a needle, but i'm here not to hear you say what or… how you do this, we've been there, it doesn't matter… he's still our son and i disagree, what i want to know is why"
Faen massaged his forehead out of annoyance.
"Because-"
"You're scared…. I know"
"What?"
"You're scared of the Goels, of their ways"
"Anyone would"
"I know… and you're trying to do something about it…"
She sat down on the chair right in front of his desk, it was preserved for only other generals and the matriarch herself, incase of a private meeting, her sitting there is technically illegal.
"....But does that change anything? Change the fact that they offer help?"
"You can't trust anyone just like that, they're hiding something"
"And you can't just distrust them for the same reason, it goes both ways, even if they are, is that really a reason for you to dissect our son?"
"It's just his arm"
"So what? You're trying to take it off and leave him armless?"
"It's not the only prosthetic in the world"
"And yet the finest! You have to admit it, they are superior in many ways, they are thousands of years ahead of us, I have never seen such a sophisticated prosthetic before, you know me, this is my field, and that thing on him makes our best prosthetic look ancient!"
"But then what am I supposed to do? Do nothing? Sit there as those things do whatever they want to us? to the union?"
"No! you work with them… i heard what you two were fighting about, i was outside, about why the Goels have no reason to lie, and i agree with him"
"Then what?"
"Here's the thing Faen, there's a difference between being exploited, and working together… they're looking forward to working with you, giving the union their technology and helping it improve… you on the other hand… want to exploit them, learn what they can do and how they did it and then see if you can do it for yourself, i get the point, but why would you steal something that is given out for free?"
"Do I really have to say this again? It's because-"
"Pride… It's because of pride… looks like the old sentiment that caused the great war all those years ago are still here… shame, i thought we would be better as a species, turns out we never change, what a disappointment"
She uttered those last words with bitterness and a flat face, and left the room without another word, she didn't look back, or say goodbye as she is probably leaving, as if she doesn't care anymore. Faen was half stunned, half angry at what she said, that was just her assumption, he reasoned to himself. But now he can't stop thinking about it, as much as he tries to deny it, is that really him? Is that what she thinks of him? A disappointment?

After finishing the game and doing a good ~80% of the content Im left with some thoughts.
While i think this game IS an upgrade over BoTW in a good amount of ways i definitely think that it seems to trip over itself again in some important ways - in this I would say the main issues are Combat uniqueness, The Main Story Path/Dungeons, and Unique side content. These are pillars i would say would be some of (if not the most) important in a game like Tears and while Tears does improve on those pillars in some ways i feel it doesnt seem like they did enough to truly improve or address criticisms and break the boundaries over the first game.
This sequel is largely a retreading of the first games format, albeit in a new/fresh way, which is commendable that they were able to capture BoTW in a new way and "for the most part" deliver in making it feel fresh and fun, but it also feels like they focused TOO much on expanding the game outward (with the half-baked sky islands and underground and the numerous caves/shrines) instead of "imo" the better route which would be expanding the game in-ward with deeper questlines/progression/rewards/challenges/character moments. I think where ToTK fails is in trying to appeal way too broadly to the general playerbase, they lost out on really improving on and pushing past the criticisms of the past game, instead they just gave us more things to do but largely approached in the same way as BoTW with really simple repetition and not enough unique areas/puzzles or rewards, with too much focus on building when it can largely be ignored in favor of simple designs or autobuilds. While these certain things do shake up the formula, im still left with thinking alot of the other pillars of the game suffered for it.

• First up about the story I definitely just hoped they wouldve tried to approach the main path in a new (maybe more linear way) instead of repeating the 4 champion slog with weak mini-dungeons/temples and actually give us fun moments that build with all the characters along the path that lead to these big sprawling multiple-sectioned dungeons. Have the geoglyphs sectioned and lead to another chronologically along the main quest (seriously why did they think having the glyphs be aimless like BotW helped in any way to the story is just crazy). Have the Sages react dynamically based on your progress giving them atleast a couple lines interacting with eachother. To say the characters are milquetoast at best is an understatement, their designs and motivations are good they just needed to give them more outside of the obvious "gotta help muh boi Link save da worl after he helps me do this fetch quest wow the ganon flashback story is so interesting the 4th time seeing it!"
  
• The way they handled Ganons effect on Hyrule was not the way they made the trailers out to be and this is where i think the Story hurts the most. There couldve been so much more agency and urgency if Ganons powethreat was on display while Link was knocked out in the beginning, show that time jump with peoples lives being truly affected by the Malice/Gloom, have not only the effects on display for the Sage quests but have the Malice gloom be affecting larger areas of people outside of these aswell with our mission to cleanse these areas too, Like i felt the most bad for the Koroks they pretty much lost their whole souls while the Deku Tree was infected, in contrast you got the Rito just being too cold and the Gorons being addicted to Crack Rocks. Like i get it the game needs to keep some levity to not make this 50-60 hour journey seem so bleak, Like its cool to see the resilience of Hyrule but why should i really care about saving anything when it seems like people are getting by just fine outside of the main path with people looking for mushroom drip and Mr. Tarrey-fan holding signs at every road. I also think the whole Zelda-puppet thing plays out really goofy for Ganons standards. Its such a cop-out and plays out like the writers couldnt come up with a way to give Link motivation outside of Zelda being stuck in the past and the twist doesnt hit because likely youve already seen atleast one of the glyphs that allude to whats really going on after a few hours. Idk i just think back to Twilight Princess and how they set that tone that "yeah everyones just dead pretty much you better get your ass in gear Link" obviously they want to appeal to the general audience but didnt all the marketing and tone-setting make this game out to be about the true Ganondorf coming back to wreck shit with his army and Links the only one that can come back and save them? the only thing he wrecked is peoples image of Zelda will all little trolling they did. All Links there for is to have the Sages realize simple tasks that help them and then off to kill Ganon again. Granted i love the climax portion of the story but it couldve hit so much more with just a bit better worldbuilding/writing.
  
• With the Sky/Depths/caves it feels like they had to come up with so much more filler with them just largely being empty areas with simple puzzles and minimal non-challenging combat (minus a couple of the depth arenas i guess?) Im not sure why they couldnt come up with actually hard enemy encounters with variety (like why arent there any gibdo spawns or boss type enemies littered in the camps in the depths? why are the big Ruin areas just devoid of enemies/constructs?) but just enemy variety in general is lacking it pretty much feels just the same as BotW of just either Bokoblin spam (and no attaching backpacks to them isnt variety) and the occasional Lizals/boring Yiga ambush, and idk if its just me but the White enemies are just a pain to churn through in this game, towards the end i just avoided fighting them because they have way too much health to warrant 1-2full fused weapons. While the Boss enemies again just get relegated to their "arenas" with no other mobs to atleast add fodder (and the Boss Bokoblin just feels like a fat Moblin but atleast w/ a unique rally move) And we also downgraded the "army" encounters with just a bunch of Bokos/lizals and a Boss Boko in every-one, wheres Ganons army of lynel/Hinox/skelly squads?
  
• They also needed to put more time into deepening our customization of Link the hero, maybe with unlockable Combat gimmicks like past Zelda's, like wouldnt it be awesome if you could take off half of a fused weapon and Dual Wield it for like double swings/unique charged moves (also why is the sword the only weapon with a stick-movement quick tech?) Like fusing is a fun tool but doesnt it just feel like a bandaid gimmick fix for the people that hated weapon breaking? And instead we got left with goofy muddy weapons/horns stuck onto eachother that clip way into the ground hurting immersion? Just give us some sort of crafting/upgrade system or cultivate Rocktorocks through a quest or Something that isnt obscure and left into the "either fuse your weapon and do mental gymnastics on the durability and lose the cool cosmetic sheaths or suffer goofy big stick to actually put up a fight." There just shouldve been more to play around with. The progression boils down to just "pick up more things to stick on the stick" its fun for a while, but it started to lose its charm quick for me.
  
• Cosmetic QoL things like Transmog(seriously the Armor system has no right being this bad/tedious)/Hairstyle barberemoving or adding Armor pieces/more dyes through Cece (like really my only rewards for a long quest chain that changes Hateno is a goofy Hat/overpriced armor and the one option of taking the hood off?). I also think of character stuff like actual Dialogue options for side-quests to choose rewards or atleast personality showing from Link from time to time past the "he likes food" trope, like i know Link is a blank-slate character but man they dont really give you alot to work with in 2 full 50 hour games.
  

ToTK fails to bring compelling advances in these pivotal aspects that almost any sequel or other open world games would bring and that largely is probably due to the scope of the systems they put the most work into with "Ultrahand" and how much scaling back they mustve had to do with being locked to the underperforming Switch
I think Im just left with this game wishing it harkened back and embraced somewhat more to the classic design of Zelda of building this Vibe and story for this version of Link and the games progression relies more on his development as the Hero and overcoming great challenges rather than "funny Link build Car for Koroks and watches Zeldas home videos with no emotion along w/ his Side characters that also get 1 quest of character development" If just a bit more focus went into some of the stuff i mentioned this game couldve been truly a great achievement in gaming, but what it delivered to me was really just "Breath of the Wild but a bit better this time" which is still a great game, but it couldve been so much grander.

I’m considering making numeron because it’s relatively cheap and I’d like to make a deck that will help me with the XYZ summoning daily quests. I’ve been watching some replays and it seems like during MP2 if they don’t OTK they always go right into avramax or some other link 4. Is there a reason they don’t go into I:P and another link 2 and then go their link 4 on the opponents turn in stead?

I was diagnosed with ADHD about 18mo ago, tried multiple stimulants with varying success but side effects ultimately outweighed positives each time.
After coming off ritalin I was planning on having an extended break to get pregnant and have my second child. Problem is, I completely spiralled. I have a small business, a 3 year old, and I was unable to do anything. My ADHD symptoms got worse and worse and I sank into depression.
So, I started atomoxetine and it's honestly been amazing. Not perfect, but relative to how I was, it's like night and day. I can function, I can..do things. I can play with my child again and be more present.
But we really want a second child. We're 35, our other child is 3, all in all, I just don't really feel like we can wait at this point. I haven't discussed it super in depth but my understanding is my GP doesn't think I can stay on amoxetine if I get pregnant. From my research, it's not established to be harmful, but research is limited.
What are my options here? Should I ask for a referral to a psychiatrist? I don't know if the one I saw for dx is well-versed in pregnancy and I can't afford to shop psychiatrists until one seems competent to work with me on this. Not to mention the wait times.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Feeling really uneasy at the thought of going off this medication, I just don't feel that's a viable option for my health or my family's health. But I really want another baby :(
Tl;dr: recently having really positive results with atomoxetine after trying (and stopping) several stimulants. Now my partner and I want to have baby number 2. I don't think I can be unmedicated but we also don't want to/can't really wait for several reasons.

I'm not going to commit suicide. It's hard to explain how I know that, but in November after a particularly brutal EMDR session with an abusive therapist I had intense, compulsive urges to deepthroat my 12-gauge loaded for bear and pull the trigger.
No urges like that tonight. Just a deep sadness and absence of care about tomorrow. I sing in choir at a church (I'm not a christian. I can't even handle talking about Jesus, I just need a place I can exist. I like serving, I like living by those morals, and I like the kids and the families).
Saturday night is the one day a week-by significant effort, as well, but also the one night where a true emotion almost resembling hope arose, that I would cultivate, go to bed early, plan an extra cold shower so I could be sober and something slightly less depressed for the next day.
I started sleeping properly and naturally again, 2 days now. Which means more nightmares (generally watching people I love die, failing to save them, or last night just very cold, awful conversations. Like everyone (mostly family) is naked and saying goodbye forever and it's my fault (both that we all lost our clothes and are freezing to death and about to drown).
Most importantly I just feel fucking sad. There is a video of a 48 year old man who nearly broke the world record for the mile in his age group (4:16) and between others' mistakes and finally his own too-early kick, he died over 100m early and nearly passes out, convulsing alone on the track as people nervously avoid him.
Once the adrenaline of effort is gone, all the pain hits, and it truly feels like the end. That is how I feel.
One of the catholic homeschool kids invited me to a game and I played for several hours. I say kids, the average age is close to mine (33). Their families have been really kind to me.
I don't know how to describe what I'm experiencing. I came home to drink and stopped at 3. I feel so, so tired. My family seemed so perfect growing up but they're so, so fucked up, especially my mom. The subject here Zelda and Mineru. Zelda apparently visited Mineru often to assist with her research. I have no idea what kind of thing this 'construct' that allowed people to ride it was. But Zelda rode it so well that our author the chamberlain was again impressed by her skill at everything she tried. That's the long and short of it here. But more than the narrative, what strikes me is the back and forth between the chamberlain and Zelda. The chamberlain tried to warm Zelda of the danger, but Zelda pushed past her and rode the construct anyway. It's short, but so evocative of both the level of technology found in this era and the character of their visitor Zelda. The 'treasure' found in these stone tablets is the pearls of wisdom and nuggets of personality contained within."

This one is an ancient ghost story. My understanding of ancient Hyulean isn't perfect, but I know a ghost story when I see one. It's a firsthand account of a ghostly or maybe corpse-like woman who appeared each night looking just like their Zelda. No matter the era, it seems, people can't resist sharing a good ghost story. A bit like how there have been eyewitness accounts of our Princess Zelda in the newspaper, even though she's missing...Could our Zelda be a ghost too? No...of course not."

The idea of the Temple of Time--a grand edifice built in that ancient era--being lifted to the skies to await a hero...Althought given the appearance of the sky islands after the Upheavel, perhaps it's not so far-fetched as it seems. I'm curious who this chamberlain was, considering they took care of the royal family could it haven been a Sheikah of those times? Just speculating of course.

We called in to get help and was on the phone for over 30 minutes trouble shooting all the steps that we've done before. They have an issue where the internet goes out for fractions of a second to 5 second to 10 seconds sometimes. I installed uptime monitor on her computer and it pings 3 DNS servers and it red lights on them regularly. But only if it's for more than 2 seconds does it "alert" or log it as a disconnect.
The rep on the phone started telling us it's because we are on the government assisted internet package that we shouldn't expect a reliable connection. And I questioned her on that and she pivoted and said that our speeds wouldn't be that high and to that I said we should at least have a stable connection though right?
So anyways they claim the modem has all good stats when they look at it. But my research shows they can't actually see the signal to noise ratio that can be affected by rusted cables on the outside of the house. I called in asking just for a modem replacement as we've rebuilt the network and hard reset it already. We've gotten rid of any wifi extenders and as a final step have hard cabled with a brand new cat5e cable.
We were going to just go down to the local comcast store and try to get a new modem there but I figured I'd check here to see if I could find some help. I think it's possible we might need someone to check the lines.
All devices seemingly disconnect and uptime monitor is showing redlights on DNS checks for google cloudflare and some other big name.

My Background
I've been working for about a year as Junior Full Stack Developer in a small start-up. I've transitioned from another career after completing a four-month bootcamp and this is my first job in the Tech world.I use the MERN stack but our infrastructure is in AWS and I constantly interact with it via the SDK for JavaScript. Being a tiny company, you get to wear a lot of different hats: recently I had to devise a few small solutions using services like Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, SQS and EventBridge. It definitely helped me in answering some questions about decoupling and integrations.I also obtained the Cloud Practitioner cert little over a year ago, shortly before landing the job.
Study Materials

1. Adrian Cantrill
   1. I first started by completing his Tech Fundamentals course (which is free). I strongly suggest you do the same, regardless of whether you have experience in IT or not. It filled some important gaps and opened a new world for me. It got me into looking into CompTIA certs and I actually managed to study and obtain my first CompTIA cert while preparing for the SAA-C03.
   2. I then dived into the SAA-C03 course and worked through it until I reached 100% completion. The course is long and in-depth, as it should be. I took notes and made flashcards as I went along - I mainly used Notion and Quizlet (although I have now switched back to Anki)
2. Stéphane Maarek
3. I could have progressed immediately to the Tutorials Dojo exams, but decided to complete Stéphane's course to consolidate certain concepts. Bought it on Udemy. The course is not massively long and I watched it at 1.5x or 2x speed most of the time. I also think it touches upon a few services that weren't mentioned previously, which was helpful.
4. Jon Bonso's exams on Tutorials Dojo
   1. I wish I started doing these much earlier, but I only began about one or two weeks ago. I only had time to complete the six exams in the Timed Mode set. They were a massive help and allowed me find and fill so many gaps in my knowledge. They also mentioned some services that I had never heard before. I wouldn't have been able to pass the exam without them.

Process
As already mentioned, I went through the material taking notes and making flashcards. As I work full time, I studied early mornings and late evenings and also dedicated most weekends to it. I took a few breaks in between, so as not to burnout. I started at some point in late February-early March, so the whole process took around three months.
Exam
I took the exam at a test centre. The questions set I got revolved mostly around stuff VPC, SQS, S3, DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS, EBS, Storage Gateway, DataSync, NAT Gateway, Egress-Only Gateway etc. I didn't get anything too "obscure".My standard approach to exams is:

1. "Quickly" go through the questions and answer the most obvious ones. Flag all the other ones for review.
2. Go through the flagged ones, reading them more than once if necessary, scan carefully for keywords which should help you boil it down to the one right answer. Occasionally, you will be left with two likely answers. If you don't feel confident, pick one anyway and do not unflag the question.
3. Do a final round of all the questions you left unflagged. At this point, if you still can't pick one with confidence, choose randomly as you still have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.
4. Should you still have time and mental stamina left, do a quick final review of all the answers before submitting the exam.

I was able to obtain an additional 30 minutes accommodation due to English not being my first language, but by the time I had completed point 3 I was completely fried and just wanted to get it over with. I submitted the exam with about 29 minutes left.
The result came through after about 24 hours, to my great relief.
General considerations in no particular order

• I think the Cantrill - Tutorials Dojo combo is all you need, but feel free to choose whatever courses you feel suits you best. We're all different and all these creators have poured hours into their work.
• Make sure you do hands-on labs and build projects, particularly if your day-to-day job doesn't involve AWS. Ultimately, you're studying for real life skills, the certification is just the cherry on top. Don't just cram and then forget after the exam (although some stuff does indeed just require rote memorisation).
• Develop a solid study method. As obvious as it sounds, many people still go into these things kind of haphazardly. The more you practice intentionally, the better you'll get at it. For example, during this run, I realised that "digital" notes don't really work for me, I have to write things down to remember them. Typing just doesn't seem to have the same effect (apparently, there's some research on this as well).
• Don't wait too long to start doing practice exams. Tutorials Dojo allows you to practice on specific topics, so you could complete the VPC section in Adrian's course and then immediately start testing yourself on it (besides your flashcards practice) on TD. It's just an idea, but this way, by the time you finish the course, your knowledge will be rock solid.

Compared to the Mk 6, it trades raw shelling damage for barrage damage or other skill effects, which is a good trade off if the ship has a strong barrage with high activation rate. Check the ECTL's gear recommendation if you're not sure whether your battleship has a skill like that.
Repair Toolkit	HT6	End game HP auxiliary for vanguard ships. Only outclassed by single copy gear. You can never have too many of these.

The transitional and end game pieces from Normal mode are still useful for you while you build up end game gear, but skip the placeholder gear unless you're absolutely desperate for some reason. Do consider that farming Hard mode will net you a good number of tech boxes, so you may not need to farm design drops for transitional gear.

Shop

Fairey Firefly (1771 NAS): Not an essential grab. This dive bomber has inferior damage to the purple Helldiver. Reload is very slightly longer than the various Susei models but damage is a little better, so it can be used for precision synchronization or for slightly better damage when the timing still works.

Notable Drop Ships

U-556 META (T6 and HT6, boss only): How could you turn down a free gold sub? She doesn't even require gold Bulins. Her META Crystals in the event shop for limit breaking are cheap (2000 event points) compared to normal ship copies (typically 8000), and it looks like they'll even be permanently available in the new META Shop. Only downside: like all METAs, you can't retire her.
U-556 (T5 and HT5): Another free sub. She's a wolf pack sub, meaning she buffs herself when there are other Iron Blood subs in her fleet. Unfortunately, U-556 META doesn't count as an Iron Blood ship to activate it.
Edinburgh (T2 and HT2): More for collection than anything. The only place she's reliably available is from Requisition, which is random enough that you'd rather not go dipping into it if you don't have to.
Nelson (T3 and HT3): Nelson used to be a very bad ship once you got past the very early game. Now she has a shiny new retrofit that makes her decent when it's finished. She's available from several chapter maps as well, but if you're in dire need of a BB, she is here, too.
Gneisenau (T4 and HT4): Very bad ship. But she is one of the few permanently available main fleet Iron Blood ships, which is particularly useful for developing Friedrich der Große and Ägir. Don't use when actually trying to challenge new content, but can be used to limit break for tech points and for grinding EXP for Combat Data Collection. She's only available via the War Archives normally.
Deutschland (T4 and HT4): Decent damage oriented heavy cruiser. Like Gneisenau, she's more noteworthy for being a source of Iron Blood tech points. She's normally only available in the War Archives or the Heavy pool.

Other Notes and Advice

Building for Bismark Zwei

• After 200 builds in the event banner, you can get a guaranteed copy of Bismark Zwei (regardless of whether you got one). This is colloquially known as "pity." It is not advised to keep building for an extra copy once you have her unless it's a trivial number of builds to get there (such as 10 or less); you can use rainbow Bulins from the event point rewards, cruiser missions, and the Prototype Shop for one month's worth of Specialized Prototype Cores to limit break her.
• There is no confirmed time frame for New Jersey's rerun. It's possible she could rerun as early as the day after this event ends or as late as a couple months from now. Consider your priorities when deciding how many cubes to spend going for Bismark Zwei.
• Bismark Zwei has not been ranked by ECTL yet, but it is highly likely she will be comparable to other construction only UR battleships like New Jersey, Friedrich der Große, and Ulrich von Hutten.

Jade

The datamine labels Jade as collection only, but this evaluation is geared toward veteran players with a good collection of ships in their dock. (It's not wrong; it's just geared toward a different audience.) Wait for ECTL ranking to determine if she is worth using for you personally.

The problem with the controller is when I try to move with the thumb stick it reponds in a stiff manner on screen but not with thumb stick. It is even stiffer on screen when I am running, and it makes the controller harder to control also nearly every second when running it makes me go backwards when I am going forward it also some times goes left and right when running.
This problem is a bit fatal because I like playing VR games that are fast and precise, and this problem maks it impossible to play games like that and even most games on the VR system.
Also another thing, the oculus quest 2 device did not always have this problem it was incredibly smoother in the past ( by the past I mean only about 2 month ago, I haven't had the oculus quest 2 for long)

Hi everyone! Ever since my last publication on why I didn't like BOTW (link here: https://www.reddit.com/truezelda/comments/13ej8ai/i_didnt_like_botw_and_i_hope_totk_will_solve_the/) I have since received messages asking me what I thought about the sequel and whether or not it fixed the issues I had with BOTW.
For me BOTW was a 7/10 (good game with issues). I am now 50 hours in TOTK and I feel like it is a solid 8/10 (very good game with some issues). I would like to start with reviewing the flaws I perceived in BOTW and how TOTK has changed that. But first a little disclaimer. Obviously there will be a lot of spoilers ahead so don't read this post unless you have finished the main story. Besides, I don't know what may be your sensibility towards spoilers so I won't hide anything. Read this critic at your own risks.
In my point of view, BOTW had 4 main flaws: the lack of stories, the lack of diversity, the lack of challenges and an overpraised originality.

1) Stories in TOTK
In terms of stories this is where TOTK clearly shines above BOTW in my opinion. Personally I love the main story so far. Ganondorf has never been so epic and the master sword's obtaining may be the best iteration of the whole series. The only aspect where TOTK underperforms compared to BOTW is with the champion cut scenes after the boss fights. It was a mere copy-paste with no personality when BOTW was highlighting the relationship Link had with each champion and their own regrets.
In terms of side quests TOTK clearly blows BOTW away. The secondary characters react to their environment being destroyed or restored. They also have much more appropriate rewards. Saving Lurelin village actually gives you the eternal gratitude of its inhabitants (free salt baths, let's go!!) . When you save the Rito Village they actually put themselves back to work in order to rebuild what has been damaged. Even the Gerudos make an exception on their ancestral no-voe rule for the guy who saved them from destruction. Hell even the Hylians are now actively fighting monsters! And you unlock the great fairies with a whole quest instead of a bunch of rupees, etc.
So yes, if you are like me waiting for some interesting interactions with NPCs, I feel like TOTK fully remedied this problem.

2) Diversity in TOTK
BOTW had the weakest catalog of enemies. Even a game like Ocarina of Time which was released in1996 had roughly 2x more enemies. In this category I feel like TOTK improved on this issue but doesn't fully solve it. Yes, the enemies can craft vehicles just like Link. Yes there are flying creatures now, cave-dwelling creatures, mobile Goblin bases and Gleoks. But it still lacks some regional specific monsters. I was actually very happy to see the Gibdos in the desert as this is the kind of interesting and localized enemy I wanted to see. But unfortunately all the other enemies, including the new ones, are declined in difficulty/elemental patterns just as before.
The quests are only slightly more diverse than BOTW. Their real strength is not in their diversity but in the contexts that motivate them. Yes, most of TOTK's quests can basically be summed up as "go there and find this". But the motivations are numerous: some traveler(s) who didn't make it to the stable, some odd local story to investigate, a person who needs medical help, etc. Addison's quest is still unnecessarily repetitive and the Koroks are back to annoy us though.
In terms of shrines diversity it's the same formula as BOTW. It neither adds nor removes anything. However, to me TOTK's shrines feel overall more interesting than BOTW's but we'll talk about this in the next section.
Finally the bosses in TOTK have much more personality than in BOTW. Better even, you can refight them in the depths!

3) Challenges in TOTK
Overall TOTK feels harder than BOTW. Even with 20 hearts I still encounter some new declination of an enemy which destroys me in 2 or 3 hits. Also, now that they have removed the bomb runes my resources feel much more valuable and I clearly think twice before using a flower bomb or anything else on an enemy. Furthermore, the fuse power clearly incites you to build more powerful weapon to fight enemies which would have been considered as bullet sponges before.
In terms of dungeons and shrines there is a lot that I could say. I could actually write a full other post to talk about this. I will try to remain as concise and as on point as possible.
Let's start with the shrines. Overall I feel like the shrines in TOTK require more creativity and skills than in BOTW. Building contraptions help a lot in this regard, you have to be more observant of your surroundings. There are also more shrines where you are strip naked and have to find solutions to fight powerful enemies.
Some shrines however remain trivially easy but hey... It's a game meant for an incredibly broad audience. I can't even imagine for a new gamer or a kid how complex some shrines or quest hints may feel. Looking backward the riddles of TOTK require much more imagination and thoughts than most of the riddles of Zelda Ocarina of Time (yes I am criticizing my baby here). I remember being in a shrine with a spinning gear, two sliding platforms and two cylindric bars. My initial thought was to glue the cylindric bars together and stick them to the spinning gear so that it would push the sliding platforms all the way up. But instead I had jammed the whole mechanism, closed a door behind me and I was almost afraid I had soft locked myself. The solution was actually to stick one cylindric bar to the large sliding platform and the other one to the spinning gear. I remember when I was 6 years old, playing OoT and being stuck in Jabu Jabu's mouth because I didn't think about bringing a box and putting it on a button to keep it activated...
For the dungeons I also feel like there has been improvements. Accessing the dungeons are overall a much more epic journey with several quests to solve before. However, TOTK's dungeons themselves suffer the same flaws than BOTW's ones:

1. TOTK's dungeons are linear. Let's think about the way the old dungeons used to be designed. The old dungeons were usually solved by the players with a depth first search. You enter the dungeon and you have several paths you can follow. You start with one path, go as far as you can and find yourself stuck at some point. You backtrack and explore a second path where you may or may not find an object that will help you progress in the previous path. This object was usually a small key or a new tool for Link. In BOTW/TOTK there is almost no backtracking (besides the goron dungeon). There is an unordered sequence of paths that you can take with each path leading to straight to a part of the solution.
2. This point derives from the first one. Why would backtracking be even an interesting thing for a dungeon? Because it gives a feeling of solving an overall puzzle. The paths feel more intertwined, there are dependencies between the rooms. Solving the overall puzzle is what some players are looking for. It is what motivates them into solving all the intermediate puzzles. These players then feel rewarded by the boss fight.
3. Another flaw sticks the nail in the coffin of the new dungeons for me: as soon as I am starting to have fun the problem is over. This is true for almost every dungeon/shrine I encounter. Yes I had some "Eureka" moments which filled my brain with Dopamine and some narcissism (better be self-aware right?). But almost every time I had this "Eureka" moment the whole thing was over. My hypothesis is that because of the broad audience and the increase in the puzzle's creativity they don't want to take the risk frustrate the new players. But for a 25 years gamer of course it falls short.

4) Originality in TOTK
There isn't much to say here. TOTK is basically an improved formula of BOTW. Magnesis is now Ultra-Hand, Stasis is now more or less recall with more complex vectors, the bombs have been scraped off (they made the game trivially easy anyway) and the useless cryosis has disappeared. By the way, I heard a Youtuber saying that the attachment points displayed with a dotted lines were a genius idea. I mean come on... Has he played Kerbal Space Program?
With the depths TOTK seems to get some inspiration from the dark souls series. Maybe more specifically lost Izalith from DS1? At least for the goron part of the depths.
What Nintendo is clearly good at is keeping track of what systems major games have implemented and bring them to life in a coherent way into Zelda's universe.

To conclude, TOTK clearly shines with its new more sensible side quests and even its main quest as far as I am concerned. It improves the initial formula by bringing more creativity in the puzzles you solve and more value to the resources you gather. I am now motivated to explore the inhabited parts of the game because I know that there will be an interesting quest to do. However, it also misses some occasions to make this game a 9/10 (excellent game with minor issues). Namely, there could have been more localized enemies and there could have been more optional dungeons with more intertwined paths and longer sequences of puzzles. I feel like the Zonai tech was the occasion to bring back this mechanic of finding a new tool/blueprint of a tool that unlocks some problems of the other rooms (they more or less did it with the mirrors in the Gerudo temple). Finally, I didn't mention it in the points above but I find the fuse power to be a bit tedious to use. Despite these flaws I am enjoying TOTK much more than I did with BOTW.

I hate it when it's coincidentally being deleted when we need it. It's my fault, honestly. The team leader did not want her to take part of the research cause she doesn't do her part, I told the leader to give her a chance, she blew it. Okay one more chance, she blew it, again.
We tried confronting her about it, I told her I put my trust that she would do it on time, she then went to the team leader, asking her what she said to me and had the audacity to say that she's not even complaining about it. WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU GOT THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN??? I FELT EMBARRASSED, I WANTED TO TELL THE TEAM THAT YOU'RE NOT WHAT THEY THINK YOU ARE?!!!

I've read through the information of each Path and Order, but I can't quite get an idea on what Obsessions should be (I know they are long-term Aspirations that award Arcane Beats & Mana). I'd like ideas for Obsessions regarding each Path / Order, to get some bearing into what I should do for my characters. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I was simply describing him, not making fun of him, so don't get it twisted. And I didn't laugh in his face or say anything disrespectful to him, or act funny towards him in any way. I think its funny because of what he is SAYING, and because he is angry and yelling causing a big scene. and you can see the guy right in front of him is trying not to laugh. But in this particular case, on top of what he was saying, I find it more funny that he is quite fat BECAUSE he is boldly calling someone else off camera fat in colorful, hilarious ways. If I was on that train, I guarantee you I would be giggling like a schoolgirl, because he is saying funny stuff, even if he was skinny. I'm not any of those things. You are obviously apart of the gross woke culture that tries to put a label on people and then cast them aside like they are so much better, over either nothing, or something really stupid and silly. You are those things and just because you like to think you accept people as they are, you don't. Your words were still used to describe that person in a derogatory manner and the fact that you used the phrase "gross woke culture" already lets me know how you really feel about people holding others accountable for their racism, transphobia, misogyny, etc.. You don't know shit about me and the abuse I've experienced from members of just our family alone. I have a right to cut off folks who speak to me or treat me with disrespect. And the way you've been speaking to me in the last few days has been disrespectful and has given me no indication that it is safe to speak to by message or by phone. I have enough life experience with people who use the same talking points as you to know you will keep making excuses for your behavior without even trying to research why someone realizes they are trans and what their journeys are like or why certain ways of speaking about someone who is fat is fatphobic and how it harms them. If you truly want to be the type of person that accepts people as they are, you need to learn empathy and compassion. But you also need to learn that it's okay to not befriend or to disengage or cut off contact with people that mean you or other marginalized people harm. Even Jesus wasn't friends with everyone, but he did befriend those cast out by society. in the end though, i'm not calling you. i want you to leave me alone.

Hey y'all! I've been posting here quite often since my MIL moved in and I'm grateful for this sub to let me blow off some steam. Here comes a wall of text because this is my one way of venting!
For a recap, my MIL is 78. She's always been the selfless angel type every time I've seen her prior to moving in. She was always hyper polite, always cooked drawn out amazing meals just for us, and got to spoil my son for our visits. Sure, she's old fashioned and a little batty in her own quirky way, but was always incredibly courteous and doting.
So, long story short, MIL was kicked out of her home where she paid next to no rent her entire life. Her sister (92 and still kicking) owned it until it recently went up for sale due to having multiple strokes and no longer being capable of managing it. MIL is broke. She only gets minimal social security every month. She's relied on her son, my husband, our entire marriage to solve her problems, financial or otherwise. He has taken care of her siblings as well out of love and not because he's obligated. It's been a rollercoaster of dementia homes, stories funeral costs, and nursing homes for as long as we've been married. We didn't want her to go searching for section 8 housing on such short notice, nor could we afford to get her her own place. She also lived about a 2 hour drive from hell away.
Our solution seemed simple. We went out of our way to rent a new home with an extra bedroom for her and one for her sister for when we may be able to employ a part time home nurse. She swore she would help out with her meals in between and I would take care of diapers when the nurse was off the clock. We thought, hey, it'll be a bit of a learning curve, but she's so sweet, there's no way we won't find a groove and get a little extra help with the kids. I was 32 weeks pregnant when she moved in. It seemed like a no brainer to get grandma to enjoy the birth of her second grandson and save us a fortune on elder care at the same time. We thought she would be happy to be with her son and his kids in a nice neighborhood.
I detailed it in my first post here, but long story short, MIL shocked me with her inability to adapt. Fist thing I noticed was that she had debilitating cataracts to the point where she's basically blind. She holds up a magnifying glass inches away from literally everything to see. On top of that, she's also basically deaf. We are taking care of these things but it's taking time.
But it went beyond that. She has no hobbies. I caught her staring at the TV on the "are you still watching" page as if there was a show on. She must feel like she's staring at a wall all the time every day. She has no interest in doing anything else except for chores.
BUT. She will only do these chores HER way and becomes extremely offended if I try to show her how we like to do things/ask her nicely to let me, say, let me put my own laundry away. I showed her how I like to fold my clothes and she smiled and pretended to listen, then literally IMMEDIATELY continued folding them the way I asked her not to. Multiple times to the point where telling her again would be too awkward. I literally picked then up and refolded everything she did one after another right in front of her and she just continued. She's also so blind that she was putting my bras in the pile with my son's shirts... and when I asked her to let me sort, since she mixed everything up so badly, she ignored me again.
Lastly, she undermines our parenting a lot. I've always been a believer that grandma gets to spoil the kids a bit more than parents, but my son (8) is on the spectrum and he is the type who has only made many of the strides he has due to our strictness in making him care for himself when capable. He's smart but can be lazy when things are done for him. He can't be babied or he regresses. Everything he knows how to do he had to be pushed into doing for himself, but he always learns to love the independence once he masters these life skills. I caught MIL literally spoon-feeding him within the first week. She was wiping his butt and now he leaves streaks in his underwear, waiting for somebody to wipe him. She dresses him. She brushes his teeth. These are all things we have worked tirelessly in getting him to do for himself. And when I politely remind her that this is not good for him and to let him be independent, I can tell that she gets mad.
All this time, MIL has proven herself to be the type to smile to my face and then slowly boil over her grievances. She will smile at me and then blow up on SO like he's her scapegoat. Lately, that simmering resentment has finally boiled over, and that's kind of the point if this post.
Here are some things, not limited to, that have slowly accumulated and eventually set my MIL off:

1. The other day, she cooked sausage links. She forgot to put them away in a ziploc bag so, overnight, they went bad exposed to the open air. I saw them in the fridge and said "oh, please remember to put them in a bag! It's okay though, it's just a couple pieces of sausage!" It was a non-thing. Within moments, she teared up and ran to her room to cry. I followed her to reassure her that mistakes happen, that she can't beat herself up over nothing. Nobody doesn't make mistakes. She insisted that no, this was a huge deal.
   
2. She was sucking her teeth excessively a week ago. So loud that it sounded like she was eating a bag of chips with her mouth open. SO said "hey ma, don't forget your tick!". She ran to her room to cry and said that she felt like she lived in a big dark hole. It was very sad to hear her say that. I felt bad, but this was something we talked to her about before with no issue. Suddenly it's a HUGE problem. I personally have a thing where certain excessive mouth noises just obliterate my mood. I can't help it, it's genetic as far as I can tell, but I still do my best to tolerate the occasional teeth sucking. But this? It's nonstop and LOUD. Unlike anything I've heard before. Louder then smacking gum by a LOT.
   
3. The day we got home from the hospital after a traumatic preterm birth, the first thing she did was complain that it had been a week since she wanted to get her eyebrows waxed. We had to stay in the hospital that entire week and I guess she took that personally. Never mind the excessive pain I was in coming home for due to complications.
   
4. I asked her nicely multiple times to try and limit the amount of candies and cookies she put in the pantry while I acclimated to my PP diet. She can still have them, but I asked her to store them in her room for now, because my success in dieting is directly correlated to how many temptations I have at home and she will usually only eat a single cookie out of a box a day (so they last forever). She has instead taken it upon herself to build a small stash of candy bars and cakes in the pantry, of which she has eaten NONE. She then offers me foods she knows I can't have and then gets upset with me for denying them, as that's "impolite".
   
5. She would douse herself in perfume multiple times a day. Perfume makes me physically ill to the point where I had to go lay down with nausea and headaches whenever she did. Some helpful redditors pointed out that it would be toxic for my baby, so we asked her nicely to tone it down for the sake of the newborn's health. She freaked out and said that she had no control over her life. I felt bad about this one, as I know she enjoys her perfume a lot, but it was just too much. Her room still smells like a thick musk and I just don't go in there.
   

Now, this is the big blowup...
Today, a repairman came to fix a piece of furniture. MIL asked me if she should take the dog outside so he didn't bother him and I told her no, the dog will calm down after a moment of excitement, but she was free to go outside anyway if she wanted to. I thought she went out to enjoy herself- she does it often and says she likes the sun. Well, the repairman left while I was pumping breast milk and hubs was feeding our new 2 week old. She eventually came in about 5 minutes after he left and BLEW UP. She was crying, yelling us that it was SO RUDE to not come and get her immediately. We told her that we thought she was out there in her own accord but she didn't listen. SO kept saying "it was only five minutes, we have had our hands full and we didn't know", and she stormed out of the house for two hours. I was supposed to go to sleep (newborn schedule) but stayed up because DH went out to chase her and talk.
During this talk, since I was not around, she let it all out. Said she lives in hell. She's mad at ME for pointing out how the sausage went bad. Says I should've never mentioned it, let her leave it out as much as she wanted, and that it was rude of me to correct her. She used the phrase "I know you have kids with her so she's not going anywhere" and my husband defended me, asking her wtf I had done that was so wrong and if I should've eaten bad meat just to please her. He told her that, if she couldn't live with us, she wouldn't make it with anyone else who didn't bend over backwards, which she denied. Apparently she expected us to let her do literally anything she wanted and says that she "walks on eggshells" around me because I ask her not to baby my son (I'm watching all of my hard work crumble before my eyes with how she treats him and I will NOT stand by and watch my son wither away into a helpless blob). She said that it wasn't fair that the dog had rules and the cats don't, going so far as to pantomime a hunched over servant, to which SO had to explain that cats are incapable of learning manners the way dogs are and the dogisn't allowed to just jump on people and beg for food. She thinks him having a crate is cruel and unusual. She even said that it makes her upset when I don't jump out of my seat and shout an enthusiastic "Good morning!!" when she wakes up.
Forget that I've been up since the wee hours taking care of a newborn. Forget all of my pains and aches, my disfigured and bloody nipples from trying to find the right pump, and my also being on a strict diet. Oh, and forget that I'm in MY OWN HOME where I shouldn't feel like I have to feign enthusiasm every time I see a family member. It's not like I'm rude! I always smile and put on a chipper tone no matter HOW I feel. But, on the days where my pains are just too much, when I'm dizzy or dealing with a migraine, she takes personal offense to my smile not sparkling in the sun. How dare I be somewhat stoic but still polite!
I went to sleep after she got back (we talked about it at length until then) and, when I woke up to pump, she was gone. Apparently she went to bed early in a huff. On Saturdays, my son looks forward to a "sleepover" in her room. He looks forward to it all week. He was just getting ready for bed and my husband was explaining to him that it probably wasn't happening tonight. He ended up opening her door loudly and we had to pull him away and reprimand him for opening her door without knocking, knowing that she was asleep.
Well, after he did that twice, I went over to him to console him and tell him that we would make up for it. She BURST out of her room and started yelling at us: why won't you let him have his sleepover?!
We told her that we thought she was sleeping, as per what she said (she apparently even said goodnight to my son when she went to bed), and that regardless, he shouldn't be bursting into her room without knowing that she was awake and willing to have this sleepover. She just kept yelling, not listening: WHY are you not letting him stay with me?! It's Saturday! He ALWAYS sleeps in here!
And ultimately, he got to go have his sleepover after we were completely undermined for trying to teach him manners. I'm glad that he got to, he didn't deserve to be shafted, but how dare she make US the bad guys for not letting him force his way inside when we thought she had specifically wanted to be alone?? I was already annoyed with HER for going to bed without him on his special day, but instead she made a whole show about how we were keeping him from her and how she was the big savior in the end!
After all this, DH is fuming. I've never seen him this mad at his mother. He loves her tremendously. He's bent under backwards for her multiple times over the course of our marriage. He's taken care of EVERYTHING in her life. But now that she's pointing fingers at him and treating him like he's the bad guy, he is OVER it. He said to me that, if she has anther unfair outburst like that, he's gonna tell her to call around and find somebody willing to house her, because she's out of here. She's destroying our newborn period. We won't get these days back.
But what gets me is that... I think that's what she expects from him. She expects him to just dish out 2k per month of his own money, of his children's money, to get her her own apartment where she can wander around like Mr. Magoo and eat rancid sausages to her heart's content. It's almost a powerplay. The initial plan was to move her sister in, save a fortune on elder care, and she would help keep her sister company since I'm not bilingual and they were spending every day together before she moved in with us. But she just... stopped talking to her sister altogether? It's so bizarre. It's like she randomly decided to drop her from her life when she moved in with us and it's clear that her sister is hurt by this. When we ask her, she just goes "oh, I don't know :)" or just makes a dismissive "mmm".
But she won't talk about anything. She won't listen to our side of anything. She just wants to explode, bitch, and then pretend it never happened in a cycle. She expects us to just grit our teeth and live in hell with her when our lives are supposed to be happy right now with the new baby. She thinks that burying problems and periodically freaking out is the right way to live and everything else is rude. I can't even enjoy my newborn. I have angry MIL sitting beside me, staring depressedly at the wall for hours on end every day. I can't so much as be a parent to my oldest anymore without incurring her silent ire, which she unloads on DH when they're alone. If I try to talk about it with her, it's all "don't worry about it, everything's fine :)".
What gets me, what I take personally (since I'm thinking that the rest may be dementia or something), is how she treats our family finances like a bottomless bank. She thinks that DH is Scrooge McDuck with a pool of gold despite me telling her about our struggles and how DH has literally been crying over the whole situation with her sister. She KNOWS that our financial plan was to save money on her living costs and on her sister's elder care because we can't afford to take care of everybody, but DH loves her too much to just stick her into section 8 (which takes time, too). BUT, she wants us to buy her her own apartment ANYWAY as well as forgo the plan on saving five figures a month on her sister, all while treating us like trash for not allowing her to bulldoze the household. Who is this woman and what has she done with the MIL I knew?! If we don't get to live out our plan as intended, I will hold this against her forever, and there will be no reconciliation. DH understands. He thinks I've been more than understanding and that it's MIL who is acting like a dictator while claiming to be the victim.
TLDR: MIL thinks that the normal course of life is to endure misery and never talk openly and honestly, so she expects us to wallow in her own personal Hell beside her for a long as she will live. Does not believe in reconciliation, seems to have zero consideration for others in any capacity (except our dog?), and makes unreasonable seen like the understatement of the century.
Oh, and I've gotten a lot of advice on my aunt in law's elder care in the last couple of threads, so not a lot is needed! DH has been on top of it and all suggestions were things he already considered and knew about. It's rather complicated and i can't get into it here, as this is just meant to be a rant. We have an elder care lawyer who is helping out.
As for assisted living for MIL, that's apparently not going to happen without significant costs until she meets certain cognitive thresholds, which she has not yet. So, it's either section 8 (and I'm petrified of letting her live alone, tbh) or another small fortune to get her out of the house... I think we need to find a relative willing to take her, because with my kids, she's turning my once bright and sunny household into a goddamn war zone.
