2023.03.30 20:50 TheGhostDM Wish-list of Base Building Features
This is one of the friendliest communities on Reddit, so I thought y'all might be receptive to my wish-list of NMS features I'd like to see from Hello Games. I know HG reads this forum, too, so... if y'all are reading I'd not only love these, I'd pay to see them implemented!
- More building objects per base I might be an edge use case, but my current love in NMS is the building aspect. I enjoy creating towns and settlements, and populating homes with trappings that tell a story is one of my favorite things. Alas, I the 3000 unit limit for shareable bases suggests that if I build out some of my ideas, they'll never have the chance to get shared. I'd love to see that limit lifted so I can build out some truly epic ideas.
- True multiplayer bases My girlfriend and I like to build together. It would be great if we could tag a base as co-owned so that we could both work on it, use it, and change it regardless of whether or not the other was online.
- More diverse / varied biomes, multiple biomes per planet I know this is a difficult one, but... planets are pretty one-note right now (though they're undeniably beautiful.) Generating more realistic planets with diverse biomes would be great! I have seen mods that do this, so it seems at least possible in theory. Maybe this could be a feature of a new set of galaxies?
- If you build it, they will come Simply... a way to designate a building or a town as an "NPC dwelling," ways to recruit merchants, etc would be fun. Seeing a town with people wandering around would make things feel more populated.
- Linked Bases Look, I like to build... a lot. Letting me expand my base boundaries by linking two or more adjacent bases would be amazing! I can approximate that with bases near each other, but why not let me link the two?

2023.03.30 20:45 itsemiloveyou Trip Report: 13 days with 5 adults and 2 kids in Niigata, Shizuoka, Suzuka and Tokyo
Just got back from a 13 day trip to Japan with my family (husband, son (6), daughter (4), mother, father and grandmother). This was not our first trip to Japan; my son has now been 3 times and my parents have also both visited previously. My husband and I met in Japan and lived there for 4 years, so we speak/read Japanese pretty well. My grandmother is Japanese, so part of the trip was really to see family more than sight see. Also, given we were traveling with young children and an elderly person, we were slowed down a lot and didn't accomplish as many things as I planned.
Day 1 - We arrived in Narita late Sunday afternoon and it was a mess. Despite having all the Visit Japan Web QR codes and vaccination status ready, we lined up at immigration for 2+ hours. Most people seemed to have also done QR codes, so that didn’t seem to be the issue. Part of it could have been the immigration agents clocking off at exactly 6, so there were less people to process the line. Thankfully we had decided to stay near the airport at the Narita Tobu Hotel and did not have to rush to catch any trains that evening. There is a convenient shuttle that takes you to the hotel from the airport. The hotel is dated, but it was fine for 1 night.
Day 2 – Went back to the airport to pick up our pocket Wifi that I forgot to pick up the night before. We used Sakura Mobile and picked up at the JAL ABC Counter. There was some confusion about the pick up since I should have picked it up on Sunday night, but it worked out in the end. We also used JAL ABC to send some luggage forward to a relative’s house. Be sure to know the phone number of the delivery address otherwise they will not forward your luggage. We picked up and activated our JR passes (7-day) at the airport station and took the NEX to Tokyo, then took the Joetsu Shinkansen towards Niigata City. We stopped at Echigo-Yuzawa station to have lunch, see the snow and dip our feet in the ashiyu (footbath) outside the station. We had my daughter’s first encounter with an Eastern style toilet and let’s just say that unlocked a new potty fear. There is a shopping and restaurant area right outside the station with lots of space for you to store your luggage while you eat. After lunch we hopped back on the shinkansen to Tsubame-Sanjou station and checked into a Toyoko Inn. It was a newer building and we were able to book 3 double bed rooms for all of us that were very spacious.
Day 3 – The boys and I taxied to the Tsubame City Industrial Materials Museum. On the way, the taxi driver started taking us the wrong way, so when my husband asked about it, we found out that he was mistakenly taking us to a (way cooler) knife making experience. Unfortunately, we did not have reservations for this, so we just turned around and headed back to the museum. I wanted to visit this museum because they have a workshop where you can hammer a coppetin cup or dish and also colooxidize a titanium spoon (thrilling, I know) but it was super fun and we have some unique souvenirs. Then off to Niigata station via shinkansen (thanks, JR pass!) to have lunch and then go to the Niigata City Aquarium. The museum specializes in aquatic creatures in the Sea of Japan and was really fun - we even got to see the dolphin show! After walking across the street to see the beach and see the Sea of Japan, we headed back towards the city center via the Niigata City Loop bus. It was teeny tiny and absolutely packed with people. We got off at Pier Bandai to go shopping and eat, but the restaurant buidling was closed on Tuesdays. We failed to wave down a taxi so my poor 90 year old grandmother had to walk back to the station. We had dinner at a family friendly izakaya, did sake tastings at the ponshukan in the station and then headed back to our hotel.
Day 4 – The taxi driver from the previous morning told us about a local store that sells cheap merchandise including local knives, so we split up into knife buyers and McDonald’s eaters. We learned from our taxi mistake and had the hotel call us a taxi then arranged with the taxi driver to have someone pick us up at the clearance shop to take us back to the station. The store, Stockbusters, was awesome and we were able to pick up 5 locally made knives for cheap because they were a previous year’s make. For reference, we used to buy 1 knife for around $300 and at Stockbusters, we bought 5 for around $250.
We met my husband and kids at Tokyo station to take the Tokkaido Shinkansen to Shizuoka city. Unfortunately we were on the wrong side of the train to see Mt. Fuji, but fortunately it wasn’t out anyway due to cloudy and rainy weather. We visited the family grave site and had dinner at a delicious tendon and unagi restaurant on Shichikencho. I cannot explain how much I love Shizuoka city. I am biased because we lived there and my family is from there, but it is a cute and mildly bustling little city that has a lot of character. We stayed at a newer hotel, Birupaku that we picked because we thought it was near my parents/grandmother’s hotel (Nakajimaya, very old and do not recommend but they always stay there) but that was actually the reception area and we ended up walking up Hontori about 5 minutes. The Birupaku hotel room was HUGE. It had a large open layout with a putting green and also 2 sleeping areas. The bathroom was amazing as it had a wetroom with bathtub, sink area, shower room and toilet room…4 separate rooms! My daughter unlocked potty fear #2 when the toilet lid automatically opened when she approached.
Day 5 – In the morning we walked around Sunpu Park and visited Momijiya Garden. The cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom. We split up again later as I wanted to meet a friend for a playdate, but my parents/grandmother and auntie went to Nihon Daira to see Mt. Fuji. My aunt had the genius idea to take the free Nihon Daira Hotel shuttle bus there and back, so they saved money on a taxi. We met a friend at West Coast Brewing Company, a local brewery that has 21+ beers to choose from, and I recommend it if you are in Shizuoka. Their food also looked good.
Day 6 – My husband, kids and I headed for Suzuka Circuit while my parents/gm went to visit family. My son is obsessed with race cars and plays Gran Turismo, so I made this a priority. Unfortunately, our planning of how to get there got mixed up, so instead of ending up at the station that has a bus or taxi to get to the circuit, we ended up at one that was closer, but no transportation and had to walk over a mile, up and downhill with our bags and complaining children to the hotel. 0/10, do not recommend. We were able to check into the hotel and leave our bags to be delivered to the room later, so we went to the amusement park, the main reason for the trip as there was no race on that day. We had great time and even saw some hobby drivers racing around the track. Suzuka Circuit Hotel looks very old fashioned from the outside, but they have renovated the inside very tastefully. We stayed in a two-story room with a loft area for the kids to sleep. They thought this was just the coolest, and honestly, it pretty much was.
Day 7 – Checked out of the hotel and taxied to the tiny station again to backtrack back to Tokyo via local trains and shinkansen. We stopped in Nagoya to have lunch and it was one of the busiest stations we experienced on the trip. Checked into Mimaru Apartment Hotel Tokyo Station East. We booked adjoining rooms with 2 rooms on each side. This made the last leg of the trip very relaxed because we could always have our privacy away from my parents/gm/kids. Mimaru also has kitchens with kettles and rice cooker so we did eat a few meals at “home”. With childcare taken care of, my husband and I set off for a night in Shibuya.
Day 8 – My dad is an avid horse race fan, so we made a trip to Nakayama Race Course in Funabashi. The venue is absolutely huge and there were so many people there even though it was only a G2 race. We were able to have English racing forms printed for us at the information desk and made a few bets, but we didn’t win much. There is a children’s play area, but you need reservations and I forgot about that unfortunately. We walked to the race course on the way in, but after exploring the venue, we realized we could have walked from the station via underground tunnel so that was how we returned. We spent the afternoon and evening with family.
Day 9 – Spent the day in:
- Akihabara to buy Tomica cars for my son at TamTam)
- Ueno for snacks, lunch and shopping at AmeYoko
- Asakusa to shop for souvenirs, but there were way too many people so instead took temple and cherry blossom pictures
- Sky Tree but the walk up line was 90 minute wait, so we just took more pictures. Definitely buy tickets in advance!
Day 10 – Went to Yokohama and planned to do the Cup Ramen Museum, but bad planning led us to miss out. Try to go in the morning because there may be no availability in the afternoon. We did walk around Aka Renga Soko (should have saved that for the afternoon) and rode the Cosmo Clock 21 ferris wheel. My parents/gm/kids had sushi for dinner in Tsukiji while my husband and I struggled to find anything to eat on our date night because everything on the Yaesu exit side of Tokyo station seemed to be closed (it was a holiday).
Day 11 – Went to Odaiba to keep the kids entertained. We visited the Unko Museum, which was a lot of fun for the kids. We also played at Little Planet Digital Park, an immersive play experience that my kids absolutely adored.
Day12 – This was a rainy day, so although we had high hopes of taking the kids to Shibuya for sightseeing, we ended up just taking a picture with Hachiko, eating kaitenzushi, playing at a game center and then heading back early. In the evening we went to TeamLab Planets which was also a fun experience for the kids, but I kind of thought that it was really getting worn out and sometimes felt kind of dirty.
Day 13 – Our departure day, so we just did hanami at the nearby park and then headed to the airport. Dropped off the Sakura Mobile pocket wifi in the provided envelope at an airport post box and said goodbye to Japan…for now!
Other info:
Mask wearing became optional on day 2 of our trip, and although 95% of Japanese people wore masks, most tourists did not. We also chose not to wear masks in the end and we did not face any negative reactions.
Definitely use the JR Pass online reservation system for the shinkansen! The unreserved cars on the way to Niigata were very packed and it would have been nice to have sat together. We utilized the reservation function for all other shinkansen trips.
After our JR Pass expired, we used Suica/Toica since were staying in the Tokyo Metro area. Our Suica/Toica cards from 10 years ago still worked, something we were initially unsure about. We bought tickets for our 6 year old because there weren’t many JR Offices that would issue children’s Suica and we got too lazy.
Google Maps was awesome for getting around, we had no problems using this instead of other Japanese transportation apps.

2023.03.30 20:44 secondtried Study tip!
I’m studying medical coding rn and I am really struggling to focus and take in what I’m reading so I randomly decided to take screenshots of my online course and send those screenshots to my friends and family (different screenshots to each person) and asked them to send me back a voice memo reading it. I can actually take in the information in the reading this way much better than just reading it myself and feeling like my brain is not absorbing it. Try it! It helps!

2023.03.30 20:41 notmeansorry 1099 vs part time difference in taxes and how to pay them?
Hello, I was given a choice by my employer between 1099 and part time. It sounded like they preferred 1099 so I went along with it. Personally I was leaning towards part time because I wanted the company to take care of deducting taxes.
I was just looking online to see if there was a way to pay my taxes for each paycheck as i get them instead of doing it at once during tax season and I just read that for 1099s the employee has to cover medicare tax for the employee AND employer. Is this correct?
Is one better than the other? And is there a way to pay the taxes owed right away? I'm worried about incorrectly judging my takehome pay and what is owed. Thanks

Interestingly enough, only two live-action films have ever opened this month to over $40 million and emerged with a 3x multiple over their opening weekend, and they were Ready Player One and G.I.Joe: Retaliation. If these estimates hold, A THOUSAND AND ONE would only need a 2.72 multiple, but the only films to reach that number in March have mostly been family-friendly fantasy-based titles (2017’s Beauty and the Beast, Alice In Wonderland, Oz: The Great and Powerful), though Captain Marvel, The Batman, and Kong: Skull Island did so as well. Zack Snyder’s 300 is the only R-rated film with a $40+ million opening this month to achieve that number. But another thing the John Wick films have is consistency in this realm. No matter how big or how small the opening, their multiples are less than 0.5 apart – John Wick (2.98), John Wick: Chapter 2 (3.02), and John Wick: Chapter 3 (3.0099). That is pretty remarkable in its own right, and if the franchise maintains its word-of-mouth fandom, the fourth installment should be on track to cross $200 million. Adding another $64 million internationally, Chapter 4’s total is at $137 million, or about 41% of Chapter 3’s global total. Once it reaches $300 million worldwide, Wick will be in the black. 2023.03.30 20:36 Icy-Waltz1605 Should I study postgrad psychology or a natural science undergraduate?
I've made a similar post a while back on a different subreddit and the advice people gave helped me think about a lot of things, and narrow down my interests a lot. As well as calm me down enough to actually do some figuring out. In high school I was interested in what felt like everything, read a lot and my grades were good. So I had no idea what to major in. It freaked me out and worried me to the point of getting sick these last few years. Someone suggested working backwards and to try eliminating things that don't really interest me instead of finding what does.
What I was able to 'eliminate' were fields such as finance, economics, law, Computer Science, biology, medicine and most of engineering. I don't think there is anything wrong with these majors, for different reasons I am just not drawn to them. I figured this out by going out and talking to experts in their field, online courses in some of the subjects and a lot of introspection.
I studied one year of engineering geology back in 2019. I enjoyed physics, most of chemistry and my geology modules. I loved my German language elective. Hated mechanics. But I was a ball of anxiety. I had extremely long days at university with long drives in traffic to and from (and I am now almost terrified of driving). I got extremely overwhelmed, started hating my degree choice, and panicked because my life wasn't going where I wanted it to. I thought I really didn't like the whole engineering geology degree any more. So I dropped out.
2020 I started studying psychology at an online uni while working. In all honesty, I probably needed to see one and not try and become one. I really liked my anthropology, philosophy, ancient history and some of the criminology modules. The psychology modules gave/give me a lot of anxiety, to the point where I don't want to even read the material. Some things are cool, but anything to do with mental health issues/disorders or ageing disorders kinda gets to me.
Now my options at the moment:
I can go the research psychology postgraduate route - honours, masters, phd. I find myself excited for this, because post graduates don't have as many classes, so I can add German and French as additional modules. Doing research means I have the chance of steering as far away from clinical and giving therapy as possible. It would be interesting to study people and society. I might be able to live in the dorms as postgrad is cheaper, so I wouldn't need to drive as much. But I feel like it might not be the research field itself that is actually interesting to me then?
Option two; I can go back to the sciences field. My whole childhood I was interested in the natural sciences and thought I'd become a scientist one day. I did really well in maths, science and geography, and everyone, parents and teachers included, told me how smart I was and how brilliant I was going to be one day. In hindsight, that put a lot of pressure on me to perform, and I'd cry if I wasn't in the top 10 (pretty silly, I know now). But after becoming so overwhelmed the first year at uni, I don't know if I really don't have that much of an interest in the subjects, or if I really was just overwhelmed. But I still have this thing of I have to study something in science, because then I'd be "smart" again. During my psychology degree I really didn't put in much effort and my grades are still really good. I feel like I'm cheating myself. I want a challenge again, but I also fear it would just be a repeat of the first year.
If I go science, I wouldn't be able to take additional languages, there won't be enough time or money realistically. And I'd also have to drive to a campus again, which yeah I have a problem and I know I need to work on that.
(just a final note, I don't see myself as some super genius or better than anyone. I think I can do really well in any field if I put the effort in and seek out help when needed. My biggest challenge at the moment is probably my anxiety and lack of self-confidence tbh)

Hello, location is Orlando, FL.
Timestamps:
https://imgur.com/a/XSaQV4F In order of the images:
- Steelcase Leap V2. About 7/10 condition I'd say. Pretty clean backrest fabric, as I cleaned it. Literally brand new seat fabric (I reupholstered it with commercial-grade upholstery). I also installed brand-new armpads. Scratches, scuffs, normal signs of use. No mechanical issues. In the second image, there's a Leap V2 seat that I've also reupholstered, but with synthetic leather (Ultrafabrics Brisa). I can install this seat on the chair in place of the fabric seat if you prefer a vinyl seat. $200 for the Leap V2 with either new fabric or new vinyl seat.
- Herman Miller Mirra 1. Fully loaded. About 5 or 6/10 condition I'd say. Everything works. Has forward tilt, rear tilt, butterfly mesh back, adjustable lumbar, fully adjustable armrests. Definitely has worn-out faded armpads. You can replace those with a single screw per armpad. I'm trying to source some replacement OEM armpads and if I do manage to get them, I will sell them at cost. $150 takes it as-is with pictured armpads.
- Herman Miller Embody. Charcoal Medley fabric. 9.5/10 condition. 2020 models, barely any signs of use. $780 takes it.
- WorkPro Quantum 9000 office chair. I'd say 8 or 9/10 condition. These are surprisingly expensive at Office Depot, running $400-500+. They are pretty nice chairs, you can read about them online. $100.
- WorkPro Quantum 9000 office chair, all-mesh version (instead of a padded foam seat). Again 8 or 9/10 condition. $100.
- SitOnIt Wit office chair. 9/10 condition, pretty much like new, and doesn't appear to have been used. Blue fabric seat, mesh back. Even has the original hangtag. $60.
- Kimball Joya office chair. Orange leather seat, mesh back. 9/10 condition, doesn't appear to have been used much if at all. $60.
Thanks for looking, and feel free to reach out with any questions.

Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Rye Lane has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Rye Lane would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so
on.As
Rye Lane neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Rye Lane, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Rye Lane.)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Rye Lane, we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there,
too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Rye Lane” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.
“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Rye Lane (2023) FULLMOVIE ONLINE
Is Rye Lane Available On Hulu?Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show Rye Lane on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
Is Rye Lane Streaming on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Rye Lane is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Rye Lane will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Rye Lane opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Rye Lane films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Rye Lane, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Rye Lane season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Rye Lane, though Rye Lane will overtake it any day now.
Rye Lane came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
, which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's Rye Lane to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Rye Lane, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million. ((INSHALLAH))

2023.03.30 20:22 Cairo9o9 Studies of Lifecycle GHG emissions on Northern biomass projects?
Hey everyone, I work for a northern (North of 60) indigenous non-profit as an energy analyst. Previously, I was a project manager in the solar industry.
Something I'm interested in investigating is a pilot project for residential heating using biomass in off-grid communities. The predominant fuel source in these communities is oil and they have limited capacity to electrify heat, at least in the near future. There is no local supply chain for fossil fuels. Biomass could create a local supply chain that would provide jobs and lower carbon emissions and air pollution. At least, according to many of the claims I've read online about emissions from biomass.
However, I'd like to investigate whether or not this is factual. I've tried to do some googling but have come up short. I can't seem to find any study that inventories GHG emissions of a biomass project in a boreal region. Does anyone know of any study that attempts to analyze the GHG emissions. pollutants, maybe even cost effectiveness in comparison to fossil fuels in a northern region?
I understand there is a lot of concern with cutting down old-growth forest in Europe and the idea that it's not actually carbon neutral to manufacture pellets. But I think the concept of small, northern communities developing a program like this is a slightly different context.

2023.03.30 20:22 MuvHugginInc Anti-Authoritarian Mental Wellness #001: How Understanding Your Own Core Values Contributes to Positive Mental Wellness and Overall Life Satisfaction
Introduction
Research has consistently demonstrated a strong connection between values, mental health, and overall well-being. By reviewing relevant literature, this article highlights the mechanisms through which the comprehension of core values contributes to greater mental wellness and life satisfaction.
Understanding one's core values has a profound effect on an individual's mental health and overall life satisfaction. Core values are the guiding principles that underpin our actions, decisions, and motivations (Schwartz, 2012). When individuals recognize and align their actions with their core values, they tend to experience greater mental wellness, improved well-being, and increased satisfaction in life. This article reviews the mechanisms that connect the understanding of core values to positive mental health outcomes.
Authenticity and Congruence
Living in alignment with one's core values fosters authenticity, the genuine expression of oneself (Harter, 2002). Research has shown that people who are authentic and congruent with their values experience lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression (Wood et al., 2008). In addition, authenticity is related to higher levels of self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and psychological well-being (Ryan & Deci, 2001). By understanding and embracing their core values, individuals can cultivate authenticity and reduce psychological distress.
Meaning and Purpose
Understanding one's core values helps in developing a sense of meaning and purpose in life. According to the Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000), fulfilling the basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness contributes to intrinsic motivation and well-being. When individuals pursue goals that are aligned with their core values, they are more likely to satisfy these psychological needs, leading to a greater sense of purpose and enhanced mental wellness (Deci & Ryan, 2008).
Decision-Making and Goal Setting
Recognizing and incorporating core values into the decision-making process promotes a sense of control and satisfaction in life. Research indicates that individuals who base their decisions on personal values experience less regret, decreased decisional conflict, and increased satisfaction with their choices (Sparks et al., 2011). Furthermore, value-congruent goal setting has been linked to improved motivation, persistence, and achievement (Sheldon & Kasser, 1998). Thus, understanding core values can significantly enhance the quality of decision-making and goal-setting processes.
Resilience and Coping
A strong understanding of core values can also bolster resilience and coping abilities. Studies have demonstrated that individuals who possess a clear sense of their values are better equipped to cope with stress and adversity (Oyserman et al., 2007). This resilience, in turn, is linked to enhanced mental health and life satisfaction (Southwick et al., 2014). By understanding and embracing their core values, individuals can develop effective coping strategies and better navigate life's challenges.
Social Relationships and Support
Finally, understanding one's core values can enhance social relationships and support systems. Individuals who share similar values tend to form stronger connections and experience greater levels of trust, cooperation, and empathy (Stürmer et al., 2006). These high-quality social relationships contribute to improved mental health and life satisfaction (Holt-Lunstad et al., 2010). By comprehending their core values, individuals can cultivate meaningful relationships that foster psychological well-being.
Conclusion
The understanding of one's core values plays a vital role in promoting mental wellness and overall life satisfaction. Through cultivating authenticity, fostering a sense of meaning and purpose, enhancing decision-making and goal setting, bolstering resilience, and strengthening social relationships, individuals can significantly improve their mental health and overall well-being. It is essential for all individuals to recognize the importance of core values in the pursuit of personal growth and fulfillment. By fostering self-awareness and supporting the exploration and alignment of core values, individuals can optimize their mental wellness and experience a greater sense of satisfaction in life.
Future Research Directions
While the current literature provides robust evidence for the role of core values in mental wellness and life satisfaction, there are several avenues for future research. Longitudinal studies can provide deeper insights into the causal relationships between value comprehension and mental health outcomes. Additionally, investigating the effectiveness of values-based interventions in diverse populations and settings could broaden our understanding of the therapeutic potential of understanding core values.
Implications for Practice
The understanding and alignment of core values hold promise for mental health interventions and overall well-being promotion. Mental health practitioners should consider incorporating values-based approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT; Hayes et al., 2006), into their clinical practice to facilitate the exploration and integration of core values. Additionally, educational institutions can support value comprehension by incorporating values education programs that foster self-awareness, self-reflection, and values-based decision-making.
In conclusion, understanding one's core values is a critical factor in promoting mental wellness and life satisfaction. The mechanisms through which core values contribute to well-being underscore the need for continued research, practice, and education focused on cultivating self-awareness and value alignment in individuals. By embracing the importance of core values, we can foster a more mentally resilient and fulfilled society.
Thank you for reading.

2023.03.30 20:19 ShiroSani Me [21F] with my boyfriend [19M] 2 years now. He's being distant. What do I do?
**TL;DR;** : I am in a relationship with my current boyfriend for 2 years now. He is becoming distant all of the sudden, keeps on saying busy, never gives me time, and hides from me, what do I do?
HI, I (21F) don't know where to say this than here because I don't have anyone to tell. I've been with my current boyfriend (19M) for 2 years now (like literally just now). He never miss greeting me a happy month (during our monthsarry) not until now. He just went to sleep and did not even care about today. But, this is not my main concern. We are in a long-distanced relationship and being together physically might not be possible for us now. We meet each other through common interest and there start our relationship.
Since his prom, he is becoming distant to me. Moreover, He keeps on telling me that he is busy and such. I understand that he might have something to do in his house and school so all I asked was a little update. I let him do his thing but a month later, he rarely chats me and updates me of what he does. He just sends a simple chat "Busy". He never calls me and I am the one initiating it. But, sadly, he never answers my calls. He even puts me on Mute most of the time. He told me that I was irritating and annoying for doing that. It was not a big problem at first but it was the start of worse things.
Before, we play a lot of online games as duo but he just suddenly said that he no longer wants to play and wants to take a break. I respected that given that he, as he said, is busy. I also stopped playing for a while because I want us to play together. Weeks later, I decided to open my account because a new season started. I updated him that I will try playing but he did not respond. What I saw sunk my heart. He was online and was playing with his friends. He even changed his avatar (we had couple's avatar) and removed our affinity. I was furious to know this. I have been so understanding of him and believed him that he was actually busy in his school works and in their house. I confronted him but he said that it was his cousin that was playing his account. Of course, I did not believe at his obvious lie. I asked his friend, who was his teammate, who was the one who was playing his account and he said it was my boyfriend and was confused I didn't know.
Since then, He never asked for my well-being. He never asked if I am okay. He never asked how was my day. It was like a switch flipped all of the sudden. I often asked him if he can talk with me before he sleeps but he just immediately goes offline after saying good night. He also never reads what I messaged him and just left them on read. He is also giving vibes that he does not want me anymore. I do not know what to do anymore. I love him so much that it hurts.
Bringing back to now, I do not know if I still want to continue my relationship with him. Here I am, crying again. All I wanted was a bit of his time. I only asked 30 minutes a day of his time but not even a second he cant give me. "Does he still love me? Does he still want me? Am I still his girlfriend?" This questions and more flood my head. He is also, sometimes, asked if we can break up. When I asked him why, he just said that he just wants to do it. He is also becoming cold in his chats and distant. What do I do? I love him so much. He was such a great boyfriend until now. I do not know what to do anymore. I do not want to end our relationship but I also don't want to be the only one holding. Can you guys suggest what I need to do?

2023.03.30 20:18 castalvania MMO/PvP to play with friends (please read all, tldr at the end)
Hello everyone. I've been looking for a good free MMO or PvP to play with my friend. I'll provide a brief list of games I've played, he's played and we've played to provide some insight into what we're looking for. We'd really appreciate if someone could point us the right way since we've been looking for ages for something our potato rigs can handle that we'd enjoy playing.
My preferences:
- I've been playing Warframe a lot and I like the aspect of having the choice to either solo or play with others if you choose to do so. There's no "class system" and builds essentially boil down to the "character" (i.e. the Warframe) you choose, your weapons and how you mod them, which feels like a good freedom of choice as opposed to having classes.
- I've played Path of Exile briefly but didn't like how complex the skill system seems to get, but I did enjoy the freedom to build and equip your character as you see fit. Although the lack of character customization from what I remember was a bit of a turn off.
- I used to play Elder Scrolls Online a lot and loved the overall mechanic and gameplay design of it. Not to mention I'm a bit of a Bethesda fanboy and I've been wanting to buy Fallout 76 too but I'm just waiting for a sale and cash on hand.
- I enjoy anything that has rpg elements but the combat/exploration/social aspects have to be engaging. I don't mind grinding as long as it's not too grind heavy or has content behind paywalls.
My friend's preferences:
- He's played Albion Online for a good while, going as far as creating Tier 5 gear and doing a few guild raids and stuff. He took off from the game though because he got tired of the grind and felt like the game didn't have much more content to offer him.
- He's recently played Undecember, which is a dungeon crawler hack and slash not too different from Path of Exile or Diablo Immortal imo. However I'm wary of playing it due to the vulnerability I've read it poses to your system and have warned him of this issue.
- He prefers games like Minecraft, Terraria and Stardew Valley that have some sandbox elements, but he's fine with an mmo that doesn't have sandbox elements as long as he gets to squad up with me, go on quests/missions.
Games we've played:
- Valorant was big for us for a while but we got tired of getting matched up with either hackers or simply bad players. I tend to get a bit competitive too so this got on my nerves, whereas he doesn't like unbalanced challenges (i.e. having a team of randoms who might be new to the game going against a team of smurfs, cheaters and/or people way above our skill bracket)
- Terraria was another go to for a while but we wanted more of an mmo experience after a while.
- Splitgate was big for us too because of the simplicity of it. It's a good pick for us when it comes to PvP but we just got burnt out from it and probably won't get back into it.
- Dauntless was a game we sunk almost 100 hours into. Once again, we're burnt out from the game and it got a bit grindy for us later on.
- Brawlhalla is another game we've easily put ~150 hours into. Once again, we basically got burnt out from it.
- Payday 2 was good for a long while until we both felt like a lot of the better stuff was locked behind paywalls.
We'd really appreciate recommendations for something to play since we're either a little conflicted or indecisive about what to play. We also have somewhat outdated PCs so anything too heavy would be hard for both of us to play. Thank you for taking time to help us!
TLDR: Looking for a good free competitive pvp game and a good free mmo with good rpg elements and/or character customization to play with my friend. We don't mind grinding but nothing with ridiculous grind scaling. Highly prefer no P2W or content paywall.

2023.03.30 20:17 clumsy-_-archer Where can I buy Sahih Ibn Hibban with English translation?
السلام عليكم ،
I was wondering where can I get my hands on the Ibn Hibban's hadith with English translation. I tried to find online and only manage to find either Arabic-only or with Urdu translation which I do not understand.
I heard that it is one of the strongest hadith compilation after Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim's so I wanted to read more on this "obscure" book.
Thank you!

Wondering how to watch Shazam! Fury of the Gods Online? We have all of the details on the latest DC movie, from showtimes to streaming info.
Get ready to add another superhero movie to your queue! Four years after Shazam hit theaters, it’s finally getting a sequel with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The DC movie follows Billy Batson (Zachary Levi) and his foster siblings as they turn into superheroes upon saying the word, “Shazam!” In the 130-minute film, the group must stop the Daughters of Atlas from using a weapon that could destroy the world.
So where can you watch Shazam! Fury of the Gods? Is it on HBO Max? What about Netflix? Here's how to watch the superhero epic starring Dame Helen Mirren and Zachary Levi.
When Is Shazam! Fury of the Gods Release Date?
Yes, Shazam! Fury of The Gods will be released exclusively in theaters on March 17, 2023. Originally, the movie was expected to be released on April 1, 2021, but was then pushed to November 4, 2021, and again to March 17, 2023, with these delays ultimately being caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Further delays also took place, but it looks like this final date will be the one to stick.
Where To Watch Shazam! Fury of the Gods:
As of now, the only place to watch Shazam! Fury of the Gods is to go to a movie theater when it drops on Friday, March 17.
You can find a local showing on Fandango. Other than that, you will have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Prime Video, Apple, and Vudu or stream on HBO Max. Read on for more information.
Is Shazam! Fury of the Gods Available for Streaming Online?
Right now, there are currently no confirmed plans for streaming Shazam! Fury of the Gods. As more cinemas open up and theater attendance continues to rise post-pandemic, simultaneous streaming and theater releases are becoming less common. However, if past titles are anything to go by, it's a safe bet that Fury Of The Gods will join its DCEU siblings on HBO Max within the next few months. It's possible that you'll also be able to rent or buy copies of the movie on other streaming platforms, such as Amazon or YouTube but again, it'll be a while before the movie becomes available anywhere other than in theaters.
Will Shazam! Fury Of The Gods Be On HBO Max?
Since Shazam! Fury of the Gods is being distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery, it will, indeed, join HBO Max. However, unlike last year when the company would drop their movies on the streaming platform the same day they were released in theaters, we are going to have to wait at least 45 days before we can watch from the comfort of our living rooms.
While there is no official streaming release date yet, Black Adam, another Warner Bros. movie, was released in theaters on Oct. 21 and didn’t make its way to HBO Max until Dec. 16 — just over 45 days after it debuted. If Shazam! Fury of the Gods follows the same trajectory, it’s possible we won’t be able to stream it until early May 2023.
Will Shazam! Fury Of The Gods Be On Netflix?
No, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is not on Netflix — and it likely won’t be any time soon seeing as it is going to stream on HBO Max. In the meantime, you’ll just have to head out to a theater or wait for it to become available on streaming and VOD.

2023.03.30 20:15 SB_Cheesecake25 How do I lay ground rules?
I provide tutoring services online. I have this one "regular" student who speaks English fairly well, but with difficulty. (which is what I'm tutoring her for) so I understand that sometimes there can be some confusion. The thing is, she's terrible when it comes to booking appointments.
For context:
- This website I use (which I will not name for privacy reasons) only allows students to book appointments, not the tutors.
- When students schedule a lesson with me, they can see my available days and hours both before and after they purchase a lesson.
- To book an appointment, you have to purchase the lesson first, and then you can select the date and time as early as 60 days in advance.
- My hours are Thursdays from 5-9 PM, Fridays from 3-9 PM, and weekends from 12-9 PM. I have my hours set so that students have to book at least 1 hour in advance, or the timeslot becomes unavailable. (I’m thinking about setting this to 2 hours, but I want to give students all the time they need before booking)
- It’s a first-come, first-served system.
- This particular student is located in the same timezone as I am (EST), so time conversion was never an issue.
- She has booked several lessons with me before, so she already knows the process of how to book appointments on this website.
Whenever this student wants to book a lesson, she will message me on the website a few days in advance to check what time works for me (even though my schedule is available online, but it’s not an issue), and then she’ll tell me what date and time works for her. She’ll then purchase a lesson, but she never books the appointment until the day of, often close to one hour before the time she wants. Sometimes, however, she either forgets to book the appointment, or she books it on a completely different date or time than she said she was going to. Then she’ll get upset when she has an assignment due soon and I’m not available to help her.
Over the weekend, this student told me she wanted to schedule an appointment on Sunday. I told her to pick a date and time she wanted, and that I would see her then. The date and time came and passed, but she never booked the appointment. As I’m getting ready for bed, I get a notification from this student asking me to help her with her homework. The messages read as follows:
(10:53 PM) "I will be free after 8 at night"
(10:53 PM) "because you're not free (during the) day"
(10:54 PM) "can you do (it) at night since you're at class in the day"
(10:54 PM) "please I have to submit my homework"
I remind the student that the next time I am available is on Thursday. from 5-9 PM. I then specified to her when my available hours were, and then I reminded her that she needed to book the appointment at least 1 hour before. If she wants to book an appointment, she has to look at my schedule and book it as soon as possible.
Today, she messaged me asking if I was available today at 4:30—even though my schedule says 5-9 PM on Thursdays—because she has class at 6 tonight. I would have said no since I get out of my last class at 4, and I like to have a good solid hour afterward to eat dinner and catch up on whatever work needs to be done, but it’s only an extra half-hour of my time, so just this once, I allowed it. However, I feel like she’s going to do this again even though I already laid the ground rules for scheduling appointments. Am I just not making myself clear enough to her? Do I need to make more of an effort to communicate with her? What steps should I take to keep this from continuing?
