How have you all survived the final hurdle of toxic workplace before entering your new career? What are your thoughts on taking a pay cut to make a career change?
I graduated with a degree in mental health nursing aged 21, coming from a family of mental health nurses and having hopes of making a genuine impact on peoples’ lives. I obtained my first nursing post as a Community Psychiatric Nurse. Within the first day of working in the NHS I quickly sobered to the idea that mental health services are extremely underfunded, and that most of my colleagues did not have the same positive intentions when working with service users. I was lucky to be paired with a female mentor who practiced with integrity, respect and supported me through my 4 years working in the service. Most other nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, and administrators were evidently burnt-out, resentful, cynical, bitter, and unwilling to acknowledge this. They refused to develop professionally or change career paths due to the security of NHS contracts, pay, pension and sick leave entitlement. Workplace bullying and micromanaging was rife, lunchbreaks were timed, consistent staff conflict and on long term sick leave. I witnessed sexual harassment from male nurses towards patients during injection clinics, cynical and judgemental attitudes towards particular trauma-based diagnoses such as personality disorders or suicide attempts. Senior charge nurses would claim “Typical PD Behaviour, let them jump, if they were serious they would have ended their life already”. Any excuse was used to speed up the discharge of chronically unwell patients, the entire field is more focussed on service statistics and litigation than providing safe, effective nursing care. I survived the experience as I was young, introverted and raised in a narcissistic abusive family so very clued up on coping with challenging personalities. I obtained a job within a college aimed at supporting students with their wellbeing during their studies. The office took the news of this very badly, comments were made indicating that I would never be welcomed back into NHS, I was not cut out for a “Specialist” position working within Education etc. I remained calm and professional, it was humorous to witness 50 year old women becoming genuinely upset and fixated on a colleague progressing. I understand that rejection from others is a projection of their own emotions, and protection from a path that is not meant for us.
I have worked in my current job for many years in a service aiming to support disabled students. Education is just as toxic as the NHS. The team has had approx more than £1million in misplaced funding and it has made little to no positive difference to the student experience. Bullying is evident on a daily basis in the office, I do not partake in office gossip of bullying and this makes me an outsider. Management are avoidant, cliquey and openly gossip. In the past months we lost multiple long term receptionists as they were crying daily due to verbal abuse from students and their own manager. They outsourced more receptionists, both were bullied and left within a number of weeks. Office gossip is rife, it seems to be the norm to disrespect and discuss colleagues openly. Staff attitude towards the aim of the service is horrendous; service users attending to voice thoughts of suicide are treated with panic despite clear processes being in place to ensure their safety, colleagues are burnt out and see no issue in statements such as “tell them to go and kill themselves then, if they were serious about it they would have done it”. Managers have been witnessed referring to disabled students as “retarded”, many people attending the service are vulnerable and present with symptoms of self-neglect, our receptionists feel it’s appropriate to gossip about this, cover their noses and spray febreeze in the waiting area. It is a dangerous, immoral, and scary place to work. Senior management are fully aware of the state of the service, do nothing and continue to hire their own friends and family members into positions in the team irrespective of their experience, qualifications, or interviewing process. Many of the service users, due to their circumstances and symptoms, often push boundaries, misunderstand the limitations of support that can be offered (we cannot refer into NHS services, no access to crisis team, bed managers or medical reviews etc). I cannot count the number of times where students with complex needs have harassed staff members, who have been left unsupported. Despite always practicing with dignity, respect, upholding professionalism, and boundaries; chronically unwell service users have threatened to kill me, stalked me, placed complaints over situations out with my control such as academic decisions. Senior management are not clinical, no awareness of the mental health field, risk assessment, the equality act, mental health act, and have no boundaries relating to this. They throw money at new positions believing that 1 staff member will change the culture of an entire Institution. Every colleague that has left due to mental health crises has recovered since leaving.
I regret training in mental health due to the lack of genuine opportunities to engage with clients in a meaningful manner. In the office staff walk around like Zombies, most days I witness a colleague upset or tearful, the others are numb and silent, counting their hours until they can clock off. This has impacted my health significantly, due to work related stress I am repeatedly physically unwell (headaches, anxiety, viruses, chest infections, sinus infections, insomnia). Most people in the office take repeated 6-12 months periods of sick leave with no issue, as absence management and return to work interviews do not take place. Managers are absent, avoidant, do not set standards, take months to reply to basic emails, there are no routine team meetings or communications. I raised all issues noted within the 1st year in post, organised a meeting with the Senior manager and formally documented my concerns. Nothing changed, I was gaslit. I learned quickly that the more competent and caring I was, the more my own team would use this against me to overwhelm me. In a team of 50+ people they would assign the most complex cases to me, no care for my current workload. I released that I have to leave the job this year as likely nothing will change and I will not allow myself to stoop to their low of treating vulnerable people with disrespect due to their unhappiness in personal life and their career choice. I have upskilled myself to obtain qualifications and experience in other fields.
My hope was that documenting this experience on Reddit would support me to evidence the malpractice, negligence, and toxicity of the field and gain advice on how best to proceed. I am introverted, the experience has lowered my self-esteem and I often worry that I am the problem. Recently morale in the office has hit an all time low, I admit that I have been slower to complete admin-based jobs and lost motivation to make a meaningful difference. My life has changed dramatically over the past years. I left the NHS, survived an abusive relationship, survived and escaped an emotionally abusive home, moved in with my new loving partner and created my own peaceful home. Change can be daunting, but I now see that staying in toxic situations of any kind is not an option and that I can and will create my own reality. My current salary is over 44k per year, most jobs I am applying for are approximately 30-35k per year, permanent contracts, better working conditions and less stress associated with the role. Family discourage me from leaving a well-paying and secure job despite the chaos and negligence, they have remained in toxic unhappy work situations which directly impacts their health, relationships, and life satisfaction as they fear the unknown. My loving partner recently left a toxic workplace and reassures me that there is more to this life than this - seeing him progress and feel valued in work inspires me.
I am applying for approximately 2 jobs per week, in the Learning Development field. Please, can anyone provide tips of how to survive in the bleak period between deciding to move and obtaining a job? I am researching good working practices, office etiquette, email etiquette and only applying to companies that I have fully researched employee reviews. This is my first post here, but I experienced something in a lecture this week that really bugged me and I really want to share it because I wondered if anyone else had experienced something similar?
The topic was inclusion in education, with a specific focus on if it is possible to provide for every student's needs. I was very excited, as autism is one of my special interests as an autistic person.
However, the prereading tasks were four case studies, 2 on visible, physical disabilities, and 2 on autism. The case studies of autism represented your stereotypical young, white boy with autism who likes trains. No surprise here. And most the questions were directed at how to get the boys to engage in learning and socialising, with no mention on the isolation autistic children experience because if their peers. There was also mention of hand flapping as an undesirable behaviour that needed to be suppressed...
Why does it always have to be us who have to cater to neurotypicals?
So, we get to the lecture. It was surprisingly good, considering the pre-session task. We were taught about the different models, and how society is moving away from the medical/deficit model and more towards a social model.
But still, even after we've looked at how the medical model is becoming redundant, during a class contribution where we comment on the case studies we read in groups, there were people referring to the "treatment" of the autistic pupils...
Our lecturer indirectly called this out, but didn't specify why what was said went against everything we just learned, but it still really bothered me that neurotypicals can't seem to learn that we don't need to be treated, and that it's not our responsibility to always accommodate to them.
Has anyone else ever had experiences trying to educate NTs and been so completely unsuccessful?

Me (25m) and my gf (24f) have been together for 2 years. My gf suffers with anxiety and depression which I knew before we started dating. Initially she was suffering quite badly with these but after a few months she started actively seeking help and going to the doctors to change her medication, getting referred for therapy etc and it was really good to see.
For the first year of our relationship we'd regularly go for drinks, go our on dates, go away for the weekend etc and we'd have a lot of fun and we'd both really enjoy it. More recently I've noticed my gf being a lot more negative about most things and complaining a lot. We hadn't been out on dates in a while so I started planning more things for us to do but even then she'll sit and find something to complain about while we're there.
Our sex life is pretty much non existent and whenever I try to initiate I get rejected. Every time we've had sex in the last 7-10 months have been from my gf initiating but even then its very rare. We sat down a couple of months ago and spoke about things that have upset us or that we'd like our partner to do differently. She told me a couple of things I do that she doesn't like which I have made an effort to change and then I told her that when she's feeling low she has a tendency to snap at me or talk down to me which is upsetting since I've done nothing wrong and she agreed, apologised and said she'd make an effort to stop. This happened for maybe 6 weeks then when she's in a bad mood now, she's back to talking down to me and apologising after.
I feel like I've been trying to improve our relationship but I just don't know what else I can do. Does anyone have any advice?

Hej, i am a Ken main and have finally managed to get my BnB execution down. Against a dummy waiting to take a beating that is.
The combos i am trying to apply are:
1: backMP > stHP xx HK tatsu 2: jumpHP > backMP > stHP xx HK tatsu
In training mode i usually warm up by doing 10/10 for each on both sides, then for 1 i set up the dummy to do something punishable like a neutral tatsu, spiral arrow, stuff like that and try to punish with the first combo. I still mess it up sometimes and if i fail 3 times in a row i do 10 reps of the raw combo against the dummy.
For 2 i set the dummy to throw fireballs, jump them and try to hit the dummy while it still is in recovery from the fireball. If i mess it up 3 times, same as above.
That works well in training mode but i have a hard time applying it in matches.
I guess the problem is this: in training mode i know the backMP / jumpHP will connect, so while i am inputting these i am mentally "buffering" the input for the rest of the combo. If i play matches i have to visually confirm the hit and i literally feel a few frames of lag between my brain and my fingers.
Do i just have to fail a couple of hundred times or do you have any advice for this?
I guess i will try to do some hitconfirm practice with dummy on random guard to speed up my reaction time and also learn to combo into the target combo from stLP and crMP to give me some more time for the hitconfirm.
To be honest i have terribly neglected these buttons so far.
Still would be thankfull for suggestions and some experiences giw you guys approach this. Thanks in advance.

I’m gay and recently single so, you know what that means. Time to slut it up.
I’ve been meeting a few guys here and there, and as a very keen and enthusiastic bottom I’ve been having a lot of fun, until now.
I met a guy last week, a sexy Austrian daddy type guy, and we had sex. Part way through he started to go a bit soft, so to keep things going we put me on all fours on the bed and he started to finger me while I wanked myself off. Now, usually I don’t use much lube. My ass isn’t some cavernous tunnel that fits anything inside it, but usually a bit of spit and foreplay is enough for me. In my experience, lube can sometimes actually cause more pain and frustration as things slide in too easily when they shouldn’t.
So away he goes, pumping his fingers in and out of me, and at points it feels like he’s putting more than just the usual 1-3 fingers I would expect. At one point I have to tell him to stop because it hurts too much and it feels like he’s closer to putting his entire fist in me. Some gays love that, but not for me at my experience level.
So we finish up, I go home, and the next day a really bad cold begins to develop. I’m coughing non stop, sneezing, shivering, sweating, all of it. The more I cough, the more pain I start to feel in my asshole. I have a bath and feel around there to try and figure out what’s wrong and it feels like I have a haemorrhoid. The combination of rough sex and intense coughing has obviously done my asshole no favours. I’ve had one or two before and usually just a bit of cream or ointment fixes it up and I’m back to normal. However, ointments don’t seem to be working now. And the haemorrhoid is so painful that I can’t poop without crying. It’s been 4 days and I still haven’t pooped. I usually go 2-3 times a day, and now I’ve missed at least 8 poops.
I took a laxative and that did nothing. I’m now in a hot bath wondering if I’ll ever poo again because it is pure agony. I’ve seen a doctor and she just told me to keep eating and not hold my poo in (as if I’m purposefully doing it). I’m scared I’m going die in a poo explosion or that it’ll come back up out my mouth like I’ve heard in horror stories.
My next step is to go get a stool softener and pray it works but I’m not feeling hopeful. I’ve also now been sick for 5 days and have not stopped coughing, every one causing pain and probably making my haemorrhoid worse.
TLDR: Got (almost) fisted, had a bad coughing fit, gave myself piles and haven’t been able to poop for 4 days.

Anyone else literally OVER their SO after having a kid with them? Little backstory - my fiancé and I have been together almost 4 years. When we met, he had a 6 month old son with ex which they tried to stay together for SS but it was just a no. I practically dropped everything for him and his kid. Would take care of him, watch him on my days off, daycare drop off, even baby momma drop off (we got along). After almost 2 years I didn’t want to do any of that anymore. It was overwhelming, I was resenting SS, didn’t want to see baby momma, and just wanted my life back. So I stopped doing daycare drop offs and minimized responsibilities involving his kid, so he could do them. Things got better. Fast forward, I decided I wanted a baby of my own, upon many reasons but that I wanted the bond with my child that I didn’t have with SS and SO. Fast forward again, the first 3-4 months after birth I was literally doing everything on my own. No help from him. To this day, he doesn’t help with night sleeping, which my 8mo wakes every few hours. Blah blah blah, there’s just so much I could write. Around that time I had a talk with him that he needed to step up and be a dad and help me out with things. New Years I told him I wasn’t sure if I was in love with him anymore. Since then, here and there he tries to make an effort and do the things I’ve previously asked him to do & helping out more but at that point I was just so over it and checked out that it didn’t matter to me. Congrats, you washed the bottles today, want a cookie? Like EVERYTHING irritates the living hell out of me I can’t stand being around him. It’s awful. He’s a great guy, but a very minimal dad and that’s not the experience I wanted to have. I feel disappointed and alone and I just don’t think I want to do this anymore. I know this was a long one, thank you for reading. Any advice or similar situations are welcome. I just can’t keep living my days hating being here with him. Side note - I didn’t get PP depression and overall besides this I feel completely fine. My son is my absolute bestie and I love having him around.

2023.03.29 12:06 BarryTownCouncil confused over USB c PD charging with multiple devices

Hi, I've started trying to use PD charging, and am having trouble understanding which bit in the system is behaving, IMHO, weirdly.
I've a 100W power supply, with 2 USB C and 1 USB A ports. With everything off cols, I can plug my USB C dock into my laptop, plug the charger into the dock and the laptop will charge in the blink of an eye.
But then I also plug in my phone to the Charger, and the charger seems to be acting like a USB hub too, and whatever is going on, the phone starts charging and the laptop stops charging. It then doesn't charge at all again until a cold boot. I'm not clear what resets the system back to working, what is disabling the charging, and why I seem to only have one device able to charge despite the charger bragging you can charge 2 laptops at once.

My story. I’m 6’ 3”, 290lbs. I tried TRT at 49 years old in 2022. Maybe it was the place- it didn’t work.
Back in 2001(age 29) I went on a 3 year diet. Weighed 205lbs. Not one cheat day. Lifted 6 days a week. Cardio all 7. — I was in hell. I was obsessed with diet and fitness because I was a heavy child and teased everyday at school. I cried many days as a child. When the teacher left the room. The entire class drew my image on a chalk board. I was 9 years old. MY nickname was blubber machine. I changed schools.
In 2002, I was getting dates with women but could not close the deal. I had only been with 2 women sexually during this time. So, a friend suggested Klonopin. It loosened me up - I began sleeping with women more often. And was no longer shy. However, I got fat and stopped working out. I started leaving my shirt on when I had sex with women. Because I grew massive man boobs.
The Klonopin saved my life but I’m physically addicted to them now after 20 years of use.
I’m 290 lbs as I write this. I diet during the day but it all falls apart at night. I binge at night. If I fight off the cravings- my brain won’t sleep unless I eat junk food before bed.
I’m ignorant when it comes to Steroids. I heard about Anavar from a documentary . I asked my family doctor about it. He said he never heard of it and blew me off. I grabbed my chest and said I have man boobs. Help me. I need medication (steroid to help me). He blew me off.
I’m willing to start lifting again. I need something to help me. I wear sweatpants everyday.

My pup is a 7 months old Flatcoated retriever (about 26 kgs) and he has suddenly decided that surprise jumping into strangers faces is a good way to greet them while we’re walking in off leash areas. His recall is generally very good, so he’ll come when called, and when I see people coming I get him next to me and practice polite greetings or be otherwise distracted. But I don’t always see everyone and he’s not always close to me in the off leash park, he’ll be sniffing or playing a little distance away. He’s done this several times now and really headbutted a lady walking with her dog the other day. A little worried about where this behaviour is coming from and how to get it to stop. Is it adolescence boundary pushing or reactivity?
I’m a little lost on how to proceed because he doesn’t do it with me or around people he knows and who’d be willing to help training.
Any tips? We’re enrolled in obedience and hunting training classes - which he’s done spectacular in so far - but they’re currently on break for a few weeks and don’t start up again until mid April.
