2023.05.11 20:45 methodwriter85 In the spring of 1981, a young woman returns home to her apartment after a night out clubbing. The following Monday, her landlord finds her body stabbed to death. Who killed Linda O'Day?

Linda O'Day was a 25-year old (though some sources list her as 28) white female who was found stabbed to death on Monday, June 1, 1981 by her landlord in her apartment in New Castle, Delaware. Her apartment was in a converted 2 1/2 story house located at 129 3rd Street in New Castle, Delaware.
Linda was a life-long resident of New Castle who had three sisters and three stepsisters. Described as quiet and hard-working, Linda worked at the state mental health hospital as a secretary and a cashier at the McDonald's on Route 13.
She was last seen alive on Saturday, May 30th around 1:30 a.m. by her friend and the friend's boyfriend after a night of nightclubbing. Her body was found at 2 p.m. on the following Monday, after a tenant living upstairs from her noticed that she hadn't picked up her mail. They went to drop her mail off at the front of her door, and upon noticing the door ajar and a foul odor, immediately went to the landlord who entered into her apartment and found her body on the floor of her bedroom. She was partially clothed and was found stabbed to death. The position of her body as well as her nightgown being pulled up to around her neck suggested sexual assault.
Linda was killed by a steak knife from her kitchen. Curiously, they found additional steak knives in Linda's laundry basket in addition to the one that was found in her body. There was vomit on either side of her bed that was not explained.
Forensic examiners believed that the area around Linda's body was cleaned as there was little blood around her, but there was blood underneath her. They did take a piece of pipe beneath her sink, but couldn't find evidence of blood in the pipe. It looks as though Linda's face was covered by her pillow face by the killer, which I think is an interesting detail.
It can be inferred that the FBI has considered Henry Lee Lucas as they requested evidence from her case as seen in the Henry Lee Lucas FBI documents, but hair fiber matching tests were inconclusive. Henry Lee Lucas did live in the region at the time of her murder and is notorious for confessing to murders he did not actually commit.
My general theory on her case is that she was getting stalked by either a customer at the McDonald's she worked at, or a patient at the mental health facility she worked at who became fixated on her.

2023.05.08 15:03 incorruptible_bk The sentencing of Chitra Selvaraj, Frank Parlato co-conspirator, moved to May 17

Per the WDNY case docket, the sentencing of Frank Parlato's co-defendant Chitra Selvaraj has been moved to May 17.
The sentencing was previously set for May 10. This rescheduling was done at the initiative of the court.
Curiously, information from both the government and Selvaraj's lawyers has been sealed nearly in its entirety. Two pieces of information did come through:
Parlato is scheduled for sentencing June 5.

Backstory

Chitra Selvaraj was manager of the One Niagara building during Frank Parlato's stint as owner of the property formerly known as the Occidental Chemical Building, also commonly called the Flash Cube Building.
Selvaraj also served as managing editor of his Niagara Falls Reporter newspaper. Her successor in that role was serial rapist Nicholas D'Angelo.
Selvaraj and Parlato were charged in a fraud scheme involving real estate in Western New York. Though the charges in 2015 initially involved the Bronfman sisters, a superseding indictment in 2018 removed all references to their dealings with the Bronfmans and concentrated solely on tax charges.
In 2021, Selvaraj agreed to a plea bargain to 1 count of violating 26 USC 7203, (willful failure to file an income tax return), for $150,000 she received while employed as a manager for the One Niagara Building. The maximum statutory penalty is 1 year in prison; additionally, Selvaraj faces deportation as a consequence of her immigration status.
In his case, Parlato plead guilty in 2022 to 1 count of failing to file paperwork on cash receipts exceeding $10,000, for rent payments totaling $19,970. The charge has a statutory maximum of 5 years imprisonment. Parlato's deal also has him admitting to having failed to file taxes for the years of 2006 to 2017; he is assessed $184,939.51 in taxes and penalties.
Per paragraph 38 of the deal bearing his signature, the government may treat this payment as "acceptance of responsibility." Parlato has also agreed not to contest the government's seizure of $1 million.

2023.04.26 15:48 incorruptible_bk More information about the crimes Nicholas D'Angelo plead to --and how Frank Parlato's is trying to wash his hands while dirtying up D'Angelo's underage victim

Below, I am sharing a round up of more articles about the Nicholas D'Angelo story and following up about Frank Parlato's apparent ongoing irresponsibility.

The Niagara Falls Reporter (owned by Frank Parlato) blames the underage sex trafficking victim

Here is the writeup of Niagara Falls Reporter, a publication edited by Frank Parlato (it often overlaps with Frank Report, which people here will probably be familiar with). I don't know that he wrote it, because since Parlato plead guilty to tax crimes, he's started wiping articles of named bylines and credits some articles to "NIAGARA REPORTER-" [sic]. However, click that byline and the URL it goes to is niagarafallsreporter [dot] com [slash] author [slash] frank).
I wouldn't normally share this article, because it is trash, but to demonstrate how unrepentant Parlato (who at least is editor here). Recall that even after learning Camila was abused as a minor, Parlato had to repeatedly be told to get his manners in order before he stopped running her photo and last name in a disgusting bit of slut-shaming.
So you'd think Parlato (or his proxy) would know better than to write this bit of apologism for rape and sex trafficking:
The third accuser, a minor who turned to prostitution to support her drug addiction, was allegedly two months short of the legal age of consent of 17 when D’Angelo began a sexual relationship.
Dismissing the victim as "a prostitute" is rather neat. It also omits some truly repulsive facts: including that D'Angelo is a grown-ass man, and a lawyer, and was working for Niagara County Social Services. He also, at one point, knew that his victim was in the welfare system (because he sought her records to dirty up her reputation).

And what does the Niagara Falls Reporter have to say for themselves?

Meanwhile, Parlato (or his proxy) tries to exonerate the publication, writing the following disingenuous description of its role in this.
"part-time as managing editor of the Niagara Falls Reporter for about three years [...] D’Angelo resigned from the Reporter in August 2020, three months before his arrest, following the announcement of a civil lawsuit by a woman who accused D’Angelo of raping her when she was his client."
This buries several facts:
Parlato is currently awaiting sentencing in federal court for an unrelated tax conviction; the tentative date is June.
It's my understanding that the judge in Parlato's case is considering what factors to allow prosecutors to consider. I would certainly hope that the judge looks at a history of Parlato shirking responsibility and find that this man simply will not respect the law until he sees consequences.

2023.04.15 16:04 incorruptible_bk Upcoming dates in the sentencing of Chitra Selvaraj, co-defendant of Frank Parlato

Because they are coming up and have some bearing on the sentencing of former NXIVM publicist Frank R. Parlato Jr. (here is his sentencing schedule as of today), here are dates in the sentencing of his co-defendant Chitra Selvaraj from their joint docket.
Previously on the docket:
Forthcoming and subject to change:
Chitra Selvaraj was managed the One Niagara building during Parlato's stint as owner, and served as managing editor of his Niagara Falls Reporter newspaper.
Selvaraj plead guilty to 1 count of violating 26 USC 7203, (willful failure to file an income tax return), for $150,000 she received while employed as a manager for Frank Parlato's One Niagara Building. The maximum statutory penalty is 1 year in prison; additionally, Selvaraj faces deportation as a consequence of her immigration status.
In his case, Parlato plead guilty to 1 count of failing to file paperwork on cash receipts exceeding $10,000, for rent payments totaling $19,970. The charge has a statutory maximum of 5 years imprisonment.
Though his activities may seem less severe --especially because Parlato uses his blog to minimize his misconduct-- Parlato's deal also has him admitting to having failed to file taxes for the years of 2006 to 2017; he is assessed $184,939.51 in taxes and penalties. Per paragraph 38 of the deal bearing his signature, the government may treat this payment as an acceptance of responsibility. Parlato has also agreed not to contest the government's seizure of $1 million.

2023.03.13 04:40 methodwriter85 The 1981 murder of Linda O'Day.

Linda O'Day was a 25-year old (though some sources list her as 28) white female who was found stabbed to death on Monday, June 1, 1981 by her landlord in her apartment in New Castle, Delaware. Her apartment was in a converted 2 1/2 story house.

My general theory on her case is that she was killed by a man she met while clubbing. I think she dropped off her friends and then went back to her house and invited someone into her house.
