Heater blower stopped working on a 2008 Jetta 2.0 TDI BKD
2023.06.03 22:52 WotTheFook Heater blower stopped working on a 2008 Jetta 2.0 TDI BKD
This is a strange one. I broke down with starter motor failure on Friday evening and today I replaced the starter motor and the car starts just fine now. One thing that has happened though is that the heater blower fan for the climate control has stopped working. I don't think that the two events are related, but the fan not working has me scratching my head. I found a slightly melted 30A fuse (F22?) in the fusebox at the side of the dashboard (the fuse is intact though, it's not blown) and I've replaced it with a new one, but the handbook states that this should be a 40A fuse. I've stuck a 30A in for now but I still get no blower. The air con switch lights up when I press it and I can hear the air con pump turn on and off.
Are there any other fuses that I need to check? I've searched for fuse box diagrams and have found loads of them but they seem to have the fuse box images reversed, as if it's Europe or the US, not the UK. My dashboard fuse box is on the right. The numbers of fuses are also different.
The blower was running right up until I parked up and I came back to no starter motor on the key.
I'm confused at this point, how do I trouble shoot this?

2023.06.03 22:01 umfan425 New AC unit struggling to lower temp
I recently replaced my 20 year old system with a new AMERICAN STANDARD - 16 SEER - 2.5 Ton - Air Conditioner (new furnace as well). The unit is for the 2nd and 3rd floors of the house. Today was the first warm weather (~80 outside) where we’ve had to run it regularly and it seems to be cooling worse than our old system. Took over 90 mins to drop the internal temp from 73 to 72. I also noticed some draftiness above the new furnace/blower where it connects with the old ducting.
Two questions: 1) is this a potential problem? I expected the new system to cool more quickly 2) could the poor cooling and drafts be related?
Thanks!

2023.06.03 21:45 Glintor Lathe Advice
I've been watching for a used wood lathe in my area, and what I see are 70-80% the price of a new one and still need some accessories. So I think I may just buy a new one,
My 1st one what are the thoughts on the Jet 1221VSD 12x21, searching reviews and other forums seems like this might be a good one. I have limited space, and I know its over 100lbs so I will likely be making a bench attachment for it (When in use, it sits on a perma mount to lock it on the bench, then I remove it from the bench and store it under. Do the same thing with my 13" planer as I have a VERY small area to work (like 1/3 of a single car gurage)
The used ones are frequently brands I've never seen before and google searches return very minimal info, plus they still need chucks, a few needed mounting parts or replacement banjo locks, tool rests and who knows what the belts and motors look like. For a 10-20% discount I think I'd just rather buy a new one heh

2023.06.03 20:13 2121265 Carrier HVAC - Issues with AC Turning on (Heat is fine)
With warmer weather, I've attempted to begin using my AC for the first time since prior to Winter. It worked two days ago without any issue (first time running it), however, stopped working afterward and I haven't been able to get it to run yesterday or today. This is an HVAC system within an Apartment (full setup within a closet).
Yesterday (2nd day attempting to run / 1st day it didn't work), I noticed that the copper-ish/brown piping had some frost on it. When attempting to turn the thermostat to 'cool' it sounds like the HVAC itself turns on & I hear almost like a faucet/water sound. I've attempted to turn the fan from auto to on & the fan itself will not start when doing so. When switching the thermostat to heat, I had no issues with the HVAC system.
When turning the thermostat to cool, the blowemotor fan starts up slowly then stops a few seconds after.
The first thing I've done was replace the filter, however, it seems like everyone mentions letting the fan run after doing so - the problem here is that the fan won't turn on.
I've also taken the front panel off of the HVAC unit and attempted to turn the thermostat to 'cool' and give the tiny blowemotor fan a manual 'push' start, however, it doesn't kick in after my manual push.I've also tried to reconnect all the wiring to the thermostat to ensure nothing was loose.
I'd appreciate any thoughts/suggestions from you all here prior to me going straight to a technician, as I presume this will be a rather costly appointment.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Unfortunately I do not have a voltage meter to test anything, so I'm a bit helpless on that front in terms of any troubleshooting/suggestions.

2023.06.03 16:41 Markanounios Killed my DCCS620B Chain Saw
I killed my DCCS620B Chain Saw. I thought I put an 8AH battery in it but it was a 6AH one. When the juice was running out, I didn't want to climb out of the tree so I kept using it until the battery was 100% exhausted. Pressing the battery button did not show any bars.
When I got down I put a freshly charged 8AH battery on the saw. When I pulled the trigger it made a light whining sound but the chain did not move. I moved the chain manually and kept trying until the saw did not make any more sounds. At this time, the battery did not show any bars when I pushed the button. I tried another 8AH battery and had the same issue. Now, not only do I have a dead chain saw but also two dead batteries.
Tried all the tricks to reset/recharge the 8AH batteries without success. A volt meter shows them at just over 15v. The 6AH battery I was using when I killed the saw charged back up and is back in my leaf blower working without any issues.
I pulled the electric motor cover off the saw, unplugged the two connectors and tried a good battery. With the motor disconnected, the saw made the same noise. This time I stopped before I killed another battery. Even after sitting over night, it is still dead.
The batteries are definitely dead and I'm guessing the circuit got fried on the saw.
My question are:
- What did I do wrong? From what I read, the 6AH batteries should be sufficient. Did running the saw until the battery was completely dead kill the saw?
- Is the cost reasonable to fix the saw or is it more economical to just replace it?

2023.06.03 06:27 CarefulProfit971 Blower Capacitor?
| My blower quit running tonight. The blower motor was replaced about 5 years ago, so I'm hoping that wouldn't need replaced again. I'm trying to navigate a few simple checks & fixes before I call a professional. I've had to replace the capacitor on my compressor outside a couple times, easy peasy. After a few internet searches, a common issue could be the capacitor here needing replaced. I cannot find one for the life of me. Any diagrams/videos of my unit I've found don't seem to match. If anyone is able to point it out to me, I'd be very grateful, or if you have other suggestions of electric components to check. Thank you! submitted by CarefulProfit971 to hvacadvice [link] [comments] |

2023.06.03 04:37 Takotex Help -2019 Subaru Forester - Blower motor replaced 5x in four years
Hey guys.. really need some advice. I have a 2019 Subaru Forester that was purchased new with warranty. Since then, we have lived in both Phoenix AZ and south Texas and have had AC stop working numerous times to where the dealership service center has had to replace the blower motor 5x (separate occasions)!!! We hear it start going out when it begins blowing at different strengths and will eventually die and stop blowing completely. The service dept solution at Subaru has only been to replace the AC blower motor.
First question… is that normal to have to replace the AC blower motor that many times in the 4 years we have had it?
Second.. what else could it be? Now that the warranty has run out, I’m fearing the actual underlying issue may be way more expensive to replace/repair (which is why the dealership service dept kept going with the cheaper temporary solution).
Third.. does anyone know if there is a recall with Subaru or someone to contact with subaru to help us find a solution for this well documented problem we have been dealing with since we purchased the car? I’m really bummed this has been a terrible experience with Subaru so far.
Any advice/help anyone can offer would be very appreciated.

2023.06.03 01:49 Appropriate_Alarm_92 Decision Paralysis: Hybrid Bosch BOVA 20 200 Seer v. Trane XV19
I've spent far too much time researching an HVAC replacement for our house and I could use some feedback. As background, I'm replacing 20+ year old 80% gas furnace and 12 seer AC unit. While I could theoretically go all in on a cold climate head pump only, I've decided against that and am looking at a hybrid system. That being said, I am interested in good cold weather performance from the heat pump so that I can toggle the switchover point depending in changes in gas and electrical prices. We have solar, but it will not generate enough to fully offset the energy demands of a heat pump.
The house is 4,800 sq with very high ceilings in certain areas (30 feet) in the Denver area. Its a two story house with only one zone. We had air sealing done earlier this year and plan to have more insulation added to the attic in 2024. We are waiting on the insulation so that we can use the IRA tax credit again (2023 will be taken up by the air sealing project). After air sealing, the blower test results were 3444 cfm. I've gotten about 7 quotes and most did a manual J or some alternative/modified heat load modeling. The results suggest that the heat load at 0 F is between 50,000 btu and 70,000 btu. I am a little skeptical of the lower end of that scale because it came from someone trying to sell a cold climate heat pump only and we were maxing out the capacity of that particular heat pump, so they needed to smaller heat load to show that it could work.
I've narrowed my search down to Trane and Bosch based on the equipment itself and my confidence in the companies providing the quotes. The quotes are as follows:
Bosch: BOVA 20 seer with 120k BGH96 gas furnace (96%), and a bypass humidifier (to take the edge off) at ~20K.
Trane: XV19 Heat Pump with S9V2C 96% fully modulating furnace, with a bypass at ~22.5K
My understanding (and based on consulting NEEP) is that the Bosch equipment has better cold weather performance and will allow me to run the heat pump to colder temperatures. However, I also understand that while the outdoor Bosch unit is fully modulating, the fan inside furnace in the house is not and is only 2 stage. I'm not totally clear on how important this is or its effects, but the Trane dealer said that their system is fully modulating which will improve comfort and efficiency. Is the benefit of fully modulating worth the extra $2.5k? The Trane dealer really wants this deal and alluded to be willing to come down a little on the price, but I like the better cold weather performance of the Bosch. Both of the folks giving the quotes seem very competent and have gone above and beyond answering my overly detailed questions about these systems.
I would love some feedback to help me break through my decision paralysis. Thanks for your time and thoughts.
Edit: One other thing that the Trane dealer said is that their fans have a better "blower curve" which apparently helps them overcome static pressure and less than ideal ducting. Our house was built in the mid-90s so I'm sure they install ducting differently now, but I wouldn't think that it would be too bad in the whole scheme of things. Not sure how relevant that "Blower curve" is to our situation, but it is another piece of information that I'm trying to assess.

2023.06.02 23:40 iTellUeveryting Had 2 different pros out and problem still persists. Any help here?
My AC will be running cool with no issues. Then without notice all the sudden the house starts feeling hot. When I point the infrared thermometer at one of the vents the air coming out is about 76. The unit is still running and blowing air it is just room temp air coming out.
When the system is running fine the air coming out will be between 58-60.
When this happens I turn the system off from the thermostat and wait about 5 mins. Turn it back on and it will run fine again.
Rinse and repeat every couple hours (sometimes days).
1st pro - shot of frion. Happened again same day.
1st pro (second visit) - replaced blower motor. Still happened.
2nd pro - completely dumbfounded. Told me to call him back when it’s happening again. This isn’t realistic as it means I would have to let everything run, while blowing warm air, until he can get to my house. Also could happen at any time.
I need some help. Has anyone come across this before?
Nest Thermostat that I’m confident is wired right. No problems with heat in winter using same thermostat. Only impact is on AC.

2023.06.02 22:57 BasedChurchill B1501.2 - Inefficient Light Bulb Ban Bill - Division
A B I L L T O Ban the sale and use of environmentally inefficient light bulbs. BE IT ENACTED by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
Section 1: Definitions (1) "Incandescent light bulb" means a general service lamp that produces light by heating a filament in a glass bulb filled with an inert gas or a vacuum.
(2) "Halogen light bulb" means a type of incandescent light bulb that uses a halogen gas to increase energy efficiency and lifespan.
(3) "Fluorescent light bulb" means a type of light bulb that uses an electric current to excite a gas, which then produces ultraviolet light that is converted to visible light by a phosphor coating on the inside of the bulb.
(4) "LED" refers to inorganic light-emitting diodes, and means a technology which -
(a) light is produced from a solid state device embodying a p-n junction of inorganic material, and
(b) the junction emits optical radiation when excited by an electrical current
Section 2: Ban on Incandescent, Halogen and Fluorescent Light Bulbs (1) The import, manufacture, distribution, and sale of incandescent, halogen, and fluorescent light bulbs shall be prohibited.
(2) No later than
three years after the date of assent, the use of incandescent, halogen, and fluorescent light bulbs in all public buildings shall be banned.
Section 3: Exemptions (1) This Act does not apply to incandescent, halogen or fluorescent light bulbs specifically tested and approved to operate --
(a) in potentially explosive atmospheres,
(b) for emergency use,
(c) in radiological installations,
(d) in or on military or civil defence establishments, equipment, ground vehicles, marine equipment or aircraft,
(e) in or on motor vehicles, their trailers and systems, interchangeable towed equipment, components and separate technical units,
(f) in or on civil aviation aircraft,
(g) in railway vehicle lighting,
(h) in medical devices.
(2) For the purposes of this paragraph “specifically tested and approved” means that, in relation to an operating condition or application, the light source or separate control gear—
(a) has been specifically tested for that operating condition or application, in accordance with standards produced by an international standardising body;
(b) is accompanied by evidence in the form of a certificate, type approval mark or test report that the product has been specifically approved for that operating condition or application; and
(c) is placed on the market specifically for that operating condition or application, as evidenced by
(i) the information in the technical documentation; and
(ii) except in a case to which sub-paragraph (1)(d) applies, information on the packaging and any advertising or marketing materials.
(3) The government may grant exemptions to this Act for certain areas or industries where alternative options are not yet available or would impose undue financial burden.
(4) This act does not apply to sodium vapour lamps. Section 4: LED procurement (1) Subject to Section 3, replacement of light bulbs as required under section 2 shall be of LED-type. Section 5: Penalties (1) Any person found guilty of being concerned in the import, manufacture, distribution or sale of any goods prohibited in this Act, shall be liable—
(a) on summary conviction, to a penalty of £20,000 or of three times the value of the goods, whichever is the greater, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months, or to both; or
(b) on conviction on indictment, to a penalty of any amount, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years, or to both.
Section 6: Extent, commencement and short title (1) This Act extends to England only.
(2) This bill shall come into force six months after receiving Royal Assent.
(3) This Act may be cited as the Inefficient Light Bulb Ban Act 2023.
This Bill was written by Ruijormar, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change on behalf of His Majesty’s 32nd Government and was inspired by the real life Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Lighting Products) Regulations 2021
Opening Speech: My Lords,
As of today, close to two thirds of light bulbs sold in the UK are LED lights. These have, on average, a 5 times longer lifetime and 80% less power consumption than the alternatives. A complete shift to LED would reduce carbon emissions by 1.26 million tonnes per year, while also saving consumers an average of 75£ per year on energy bills. I urge the House to support this bill, so that we may turn off the power on inefficient lighting and shine a light on a more sustainable future.
This division shall end on 5th June at 10pm BST.

2023.06.02 22:12 Evilparkman Help finding new blower motor capacitor
| I'm replacing my blower motor and I've read that you should replace the run capacitor when you do that. I have a Goodman gmh80704BNAC I've looked online on sites like repairclinic, and the part they listed as fitting this has different specs from my current capacitor. I don't know enough to understand if that means anything though. submitted by Evilparkman to hvacadvice [link] [comments] |
