2023.05.28 14:31 Good-Sea-3821 How Till Lindeman saved my life!!

Hi all . Since there is a big false scandal broke out around Til Lindemann, I would like to support him and tell the story of how he saved my life!
Last year 2022 on May 30/31 there was a Rammstein concert in Zurich. My friend and I booked a room at the Alex Hotel in Thalwil. After checking in, as we still had time before the concert, we decided to take a swim in the lake , we took some cocktails and food with us, we had a good and fun time . Margot (my friend) was on the beach and was on the phone while I was swimming , I realising that I swam too far I began to panic and began to choke. I wanted to scream but couldn't because I couldn't breathe. My whole life flashed before my eyes. I had only one thought in my head: I don't want to die! I can't leave my son! Bet then unexpectedly I felt someone's strong hands and this person pulled me out of the water to the shore and he didn’t even though about risking his own life he saved me!! My friend and I were both shocked! We did not immediately understand that this man was TILL LINDEMANN! He just patted me on the shoulder asked if I was okay and left. In the evening we went to a concert and we were invited backstage to an after party , there in backstage Till approached me and asked how I was doing and how I felt? Me and Margo talked a little with him. He is a very kind and generous person. Till Lindemann saved my life! If not for him my son would become an orphan! I don't think he's being fairly bullied on the Internet! #justicefortilllindeman #justiceforrammstein #rammstein #tilllindeman

2023.05.28 14:28 Avatar-of-Chaos Celephaïs — A Place to Belong

Introduction

Celephaïs is a Narrative Side-Scroller developed and published by OllieFearn, released on July 04 2021. Celephaïs is available on Itch.

Presentation

Celephaïs is a recreation of Lovecraft’s Celephaïs. The story follows Kuranes, a man seeking the mythical city of Celephaïs in his dreams.
Travel to Celephaïs
Narratively, it follows Lovecraft’s tale to a tee, with… some abnormalities. The game begins in the third to the fourth paragraph, catching Kuranes’ ancestral home of thirteen generations and the old village along the white road of the sleep or dead with the spears of long grass in the foreground. Kuranes presses onto the cliffs—floating down amidst faintly glowing spheres and finally approaching a rift in the darkness. The dream ends just as Kuranes enter it, catching a glimpse of Celephaïs. OllieFearn does a fine job of illustrating this dreamy tale so far.
On Kuranes’ second attempt, Kuranes finds himself in an emptiness—then transition to a beach (assuming it’s the golden sands) with trees above the water. If you stay around a while, a flickering creature appears and follows Kuranes. Harmless. Afterwards, towards a cave. The dream morphs into a nightmare of liminal space—exiting and falling into the same room with varying lighting and an endless hallway with flickering and strobing lights injecting Horror elements, leaving a jolt that isn’t a necessity to have. OllieFearn’s reimagining of Celephaïs doesn’t end there.
The story flips to the ninth paragraph, nearing the end. Kuranes turn to drugs—Hasheesh (Cannabis) in desperation to reach Celephïs. It worked so well that he materialised in another dimension. He was greeted by the [Violet-Coloured] Pink Gas, an ethereal being—describing the Place as Infinity. Proposes Kuranes a way back to Celephaïs whenever he is ready. I would define OllieFearn’s Infinity as a children’s playground with building blocks (especially for a place where form doesn’t exist). Not to sound entirely out of humour, I did play with the shapes. Smile once or twice.
The Strange and Stranger.
Kuranes returns to his ancestral home and the village and finds them abandoned. This part is the third paragraph edited. Onwards, the dialogue isn’t the same as Lovecraft’s Celephaïs and should be treated as an addition. Kuranes, as the only name is given, said he is from London (likely in England, as Lovecraft is an anglophile). Or, in OllieFearn’s version—Cornwall (located on England’s southwestern tip). Progression is the same, jumping over downed-tree and towards the cliffs—past the village.
Readers of Celephaïs know how the story ends. Kuranes govern over Celephaïs while his physical body falls off a cliff in Innsmouth.
OllieFearn omits portions of the story if left entire; it is an easy fifteen to thirty-minute game with some puzzles and such. Possibly, too laborious to detail the scenes.
The dreamlike soundtrack works wonderfully with the story and tragic end.

Collapsing Cosmoses

OllieFearn did an admirable job of reimagining Celepaïs, however. Some decisions cause unnecessary conflict in the story. Being said, I recommend giving Celephaïs a shot.

2023.05.28 14:27 MustBeMouseBoy HOW ARE YOU ALL DOING IT

I (22f) have been living on my own since I was 17 and have struggled holding down a job for the last 5 years and am still in debt. I couldn't afford breakfast or lunch today and I won't tomorrow either.
The world is screwed and I have no money, I had to buy a cat just to have something to live for and I feed him rather than myself because I would have committed by now if I didn't have him.
Working 42hrs a week gave me lifelong neurological illness that the doctor said will never go away and all my symptoms are incurable. I am in pain every waking moment and I cannot work as much so I have LESS money than when I was forced to work that much.
And I have trauma coming out my fucking ears and I have been trying to get therapy for SIX YEARS. I am a survivor of horrible shit so every doctor says I'm too complicated for them and they keep making me wait. I have been dealing with being a survivor of in*est, trafficking and abuse since I was A TINY LITTLE BABY. But nobody wants to help me or my very likely DID that RUINS MY FUCKING LIFE
For my birthday in April I wanted to take the train to London, stay in a cheap hotel for a couple days and visit the free museums. It's nearly June and I still can't afford it. I cried thinking about how thats my "big" plan I'm looking forward to. Rich people have things like greece or spain and I can't even do my little London trip.
Life won't get better. The next person to say that to me is getting an earful.
I grew up with nothing and I'm going to keep having nothing until the day I die, and then there will be nothing waiting for me because life is one big SCAM that I fell for.

Looking to book a trip for next April w/ daughters 8&10. We went to Club Med Cancun this year and it was AMAZING! We want to go to a different location, and open to other AI brands, but I worry about quality and service because CM was so terrific. Water activities and nice beach are must-haves. Our budget for hotel is about 6-8k for about a week. Any suggestions and real-life tips would be super helpful!

2023.05.28 13:03 FelicitySmoak_ On This Day In Michael Jackson HIStory - May 28th

On This Day In Michael Jackson HIStory - May 28th
1971 - The Jackson 5 play at the Spectrum (now closed - 2009) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
1988 - Michael's duet with Stevie Wonder , "Get It", from Stevie's album Characters peaks at #80 on the Hot 100 Chart while it was at #6 on the R&B chart
1989 - Michael was one of the few winners present at the Black Radio Exclusive awards show at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. He was honored as the "Triple Crown Winner for Outstanding Achievement in Pop, Rock and Soul."
The elegantly laminated plaque has a black and gold edging, with purple printing on a faux-marble background, with a stylized photo image of Michael in his trademark black fedora.
1997 - His 2nd day in Poland starts with a stop at the presidential palace where Michael is received by the first lady. In his quest for a residence in Poland, he then visits the luxury Hotel Bristol. Price for the hotel ended up being too high. He then went to the Warsaw City Hall where he signed a “preliminary letter of intent” to develop a 'Michael Jackson’s Family Entertainment Park', in the Polish capital.

“My dream is to appeal to the child that lives in the heart of every man and woman on this planet and to create something in Poland that is so unique and so unusual that it cannot be experienced in any other place", he said
The letter mentioned no price, but Jackson’s business manager, Tarak Ben Ammar, said in an interview that estimates of Jackson’s contribution range between $100 million and $300 million--modest sums by Western theme park standards. Poland would add an unknown amount.

" I would also like to tell a great truth, I have traveled all over the world six times and have been everywhere, but nowhere I liked it more than in Poland. A visit to Poland is the fulfillment of my childhood dreams...."
He shops at the Kidiland toy store, reportedly in the amount of $670,000. He then goes to the children's hospital, with his arms loaded with gifts.

Next he takes a helicopter to Lubiaz, in order to see Cistercian Abbey of Lubiaz, wich he also planned to purchase. Accompanied by Professor Marek Kwiatkowski, who guided him during his visit, Michael spends 45 minutes marveling at the Baroque architecture and the relics. He'll even try a little "heehee" in the middle of the Hall des Princes to test the acoustics! Michael, who wanted to settle in Poland, already saw himself owning this old building, despite the millions of dollars in restoration to be expected.

In the evening, he flies to Bremen, Germany where in three days he will begin the 2nd leg of his HIStory Tour.

The plans to build the amusement park at a nearby military airport won approval from state officials in February 1998. Michael asks for sketches to be drawn up for the proposed theme parks, however, following the project’s approval and a huge hiatus, the army owning the airport does not agree to make it available for the park. Two grounds pointed out by the government will also be denied due to local protests. The Polish government abandons this project altogether and nothing will come out of it
2004 - Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville has ordered a trial-setting conference hearing today. Thomas Mesereau, Brian Oxman & Joe Jackson go to the courthouse; Michael's appearance isn't required. They argue for a reduction in his $3-million bail and seek an order to force prosecutors to move faster in sharing evidence.
In accusing the prosecution of moving too slowly in giving the defense access to the evidence, as required by law, Mesereau said Michael's right to a fair trial was “jeopardized by the undue delay of discovery.”
“The investigation of this case involves dozens of, if not over 100 witnesses, voluminous documents and expert examination on a variety of topics,” Jackson’s lawyers wrote. “The defense needs ample time to conduct follow-up witness interviews, locate and interview rebuttal witnesses and conduct its own forensic examinations, among other things.”
Prosecutors have responded that they have turned over vast amounts of evidence already and are processing the information they have as quickly as possible. They also are strongly resisting an attempt by Mesereau to substantially reduce Jackson’s bail on grounds that it is much higher than the bail for other defendants facing similar charges.
The bail-reduction request notes that Jackson has no prior record, arrests or convictions & that he has fully complied with all conditions of his release on bail, including attending court when ordered.
“Mr. Jackson’s ties to this community are substantial,” the defense motion states. “The record reveals that Mr. Jackson is not a flight risk or a danger to the community. It is also apparent that Mr. Jackson intends to confront and vigorously defend rather than evade the allegations in this case.”
Though Mesereau noted that Santa Barbara County’s bail schedule calls for bail of about $135,000 for the conspiracy and molestation charges in the grand jury complaint, prosecutors oppose the request on grounds that Jackson is a flight risk and that his wealth should be a factor in retaining high bail.
Melville said early in the proceedings that he hoped a trial could begin before the end of this year, but legal experts and many criminal lawyers predicted that would be impossible.
September 13 is set as the date for the trial to begin
On another legal front, Janet Arvizo filed a claim against county child protection officials accusing them of moving too slowly in investigating leaks to the media that were helpful to Jackson’s defense.
Before a psychiatrist who had examined Gavin told Santa Barbara County officials that the child had been molested, Welfare officials had interviewed the family after Living With Michael Jackson aired in early 2003
A memo written by authorities after Jackson’s arrest said the family had denied any sexual abuse. The memo was subsequently released on a website.
Attorney Larry R. Feldman, representing the Arvizos, said he filed the claim, a necessary step before a lawsuit, to force county officials to speedily conclude their investigation to ensure that such a breach of confidentiality “will never occur again to another innocent child.”
2006 - Michael visited a Tokyo orphanage and told a group of 140 excited children "I love you" in Japanese. Michael's van was swarmed by 100+ fans as he arrived. Inside the Seibi Gakuen children's home, he watched a performance of traditional music and dance by the children before speaking briefly on stage. He later shook hands and signed autographs for the children.

"I look forward to seeing old friends and saying hello to my huge fan base in Japan who, like my other fans around the world, have for so many years consistently shown their love and support to me and my family."- MJ
"Everyone couldn't believe such a big international star was visiting us," said Kiyoko Mito, headmistress of the Christian-run school. "The children only believed me after seeing the news yesterday that Michael Jackson was actually in Japan," she said

2013 - Jackson v AEG Trial Day 18
Katherine, Janet, Rebbie and Randy Jackson are in court. Only one of the siblings was allowed in the courtroom as they are potential witnesses. Janet accompanied Katherine during morning session while Rebbie was with her during the afternoon session.
Paul Gongaware Testimony
Jackson direct
Paul Gongaware is one of the defendants in the case. He's an adverse witness called by the plaintiffs. Gongaware is Co-CEO of Concerts West, part of AEG Live. Gongaware has toured with Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin and is currently on tour with The Rolling Stones. He worked for Jerry Weintraub in the 80s
He produced Prince's tour in 2004. He has not promoted/produced tours since. Gongaware has not talked to Prince after the tour
Gongaware was a CPA licensed in NY and Washington. He said he believes he's still licensed but hasn't checked status since there's no need
Gongaware testified that landing Jackson, whom he felt was the biggest artist of his era, was huge for AEG. In a 2008 email to AEG Live President and Chief Executive Randy Phillips, Gongaware described how the company should approach Jackson and his manager about a possible comeback tour:
We need to start at the fundamentals. How we do it. The difference between [Live Nation] and us is huge. We are artist-based, they are Wall Street-driven. We are smart people. We are completely honest and transparent with everything we do. That's how [founder] Phil [Anschutz] wants it
Gongaware said he worked on an Elvis Presley tour. Panish asked if Elvis died of drug overdose, and Gongaware said "Yes". Gongaware replied to a condolences' email on July 5, 2009:
I was working on the Elvis tour when he died, so I kind of knew what to expect. Still quite a shock

"So you knew what to expect when Michael Jackson passed away, is that right, sir?", Brian Panish asked.
"I kind of knew what was going to happen, yes",Gongaware answered.
Despite working as a tour promoter for 37 years -- including for Led Zeppelin, the Grateful Dead and many others -- Gongaware testified that the only artist he ever knew that was using drugs on tour was Rick James
Panish asked about working for Jackson 5, Gongaware said had no interaction with Michael. Gongaware was a logistics manager on the Dangerous tour in 92-93. Panish said Michael made $100 million and donated it to charity. Gongaware said he didn't know
When Gongaware met Jackson was with Colonel Parker (Elvis' manager) in Las Vegas. Michael had wanted to meet the Colonel
Gongaware explained the difference between being tour manager and managing the tour. He talked about Michael's History tour

Panish: "You knew that Michael had been to rehab during the dangerous tour?"
Gongaware: "Yes, based on the statement he made after the tour"
Gongaware said he never knew MJ was involved with drugs until after the end of the Dangerous tour. Gongaware told LAPD he was aware of Jackson's previous use of pills/painkillers but did not want to get involved. Gongaware had known for years that Michael Jackson was taking painkillers but wasn't aware he was abusing them until MJ abruptly canceled his Dangerous world tour in the early 1990s to enter rehab. Gongaware said he knew of "two occasions" when Michael used painkillers between shows, but he claimed he didn't grasp the scope of the Michael's sickness until the taped 1993 announcement. "I would dispute knowing that he had a problem. I wasn't aware that there were problems", Gongaware said
Gongaware said he knew a doctor was medicating Jackson during the Dangerous tour but did not find out why the tour was eventually cut short. "Didn't have time,I was just dealing with what was in front of me", he said
Panish said Dr. Finkelstein testified under oath that Gongaware knew Michael had problems with painkillers before the Dangerous tour ended.
Panish: "Do you dispute that?" (Finkelstein testimony)
Gongaware: "I knew that he had pain"
Gongaware said Dr. Finkelstein is his doctor and friend and that they talk off and on, but he doesn't know specifics of the doctor's deposition. Dr. Finkelstein said he gave MJ painkillers after the concert in Bangkok following Michael's scalp surgery. In Gongaware's video deposition:
"Did you ever ask Dr. Finkelstein if he treated Michael during the Dangerous tour?"
"He wouldn't take about that stuff"
Another part of Gongaware's video depo: He said yes, he "occasionally treated Michael Jackson on the Dangerous tour"

Panish: "Were you always honest with Michael?"
Gongaware: "I believe I was"
Panish: "Did you throw around numbers to trick Michael Jackson?"
Gongaware: "I didn't try to trick Michael"
Panish elicited contradictory testimony asking over and over about Gongaware's memory, how long he spent with lawyers to discuss testimony.
On the Bad Tour MJ sold out 10 stadiums at 75,000 tickets per night.
Panish: "That's a pretty big number?"
Gongaware: "Huge"
Panish: "In 2 hours, how many tickets sold?"
Gongaware: "In initial presale we sold 31 shows"
Panish: "The fastest you had ever seen?"
Gongaware: "Yes"
"No one knows how many shows we can get with Mikey," said Gongaware. Panish asked about name "Mikey" - he said he used it occasionally
Email on 2/27/09 from Gongaware to Phillips:
We are holding all of the risk, if Michael won't approve it we go without his approval. We let Mikey know just what it will cost him in terms of him making money, and then we go with or without him in London. We cannot be forced into stopping this, which Michael will try to do because he is lazy and constantly changes his mind to fit his immediate wants.
Gongaware said his use "Mikey" was affectionate, not disparaging, and that the 'lazy' crack amounted to "poor choice of words" but one that accurately reflected how Michael "really didn't like to rehearse. He didn't like to do these kinds of things."
"People were aware at this point there would be a press conference. Michael wouldn't show up at the conference, it'd cost money," Gongaware said. "It wasn't much risk at all, we hadn't spent money," Gongaware said about that point of the tour. This was prior to news conference.
Gongaware said the situation in London, where they constantly referred to Michael as "Wacko Jacko" would impact marketability to sell tickets
"He doesn't want to do this kind of things, but it was important to show Michael to the world if he wanted to do a show," Gongaware explained
Jurors were shown several e-mails from Gongaware that Jackson lawyers suggested were evidence that AEG Live deliberately misled Jackson about how much money he would make from his comeback concerts and how many days he would have to rest between shows. Gongaware wrote to his boss, AEG Live President Randy Phillips, that they should present gross ticket sales numbers to Jackson, not the percentage of the net profits, during contract talks.
"Maybe gross is a better number to throw around if we use numbers with Mikey listening"
Panish talked about an email Gongaware sent to his secretary suggesting that she design a concert calendar for Jackson using light tan colors for show dates, while drawing attention to his rest days
Don't want the shows to stand out too much when Michael looks at it.Less contrast between work and off. Maybe off days in a contrasting soft color. Put 'OFF' in each off day after July 8, as well. Figure it out so it looks like he's not working so much.

Panish: "Did you want to change the color of the schedule to show Michael would not be working so hard?"
Gongaware: "Yes"
Panish: "Were you trying to fool him?"
Gongaware: "Nah, I wasn't trying to fool him, I wanted to present it in the best possible light"
Gongaware said it would be obvious when Michael would be working and not and he wasn't trying to trick him.
Email on 3/25/09 from Phillips to Gongaware:
"We need to pull the plug now. I will explain"

Panish: "Mr. Phillips wanted to pull the plug on the show, right sir?"
Gongaware: "I think he was referring to pull the plug on Karen Faye. We never talked about pulling the plug on the tour. Not that I recall"
"Kenny wanted the pull because the way she (Faye) handled situations," Gongaware explained. "She tried to control access to Michael and Kenny didn't like that"
Karen Faye expressed strong opinion that the tour as dangerous and impractical for MJ. Panish asked about a chain of emails where Gongaware said the pulling the plug refers to Ms. Faye. "I believe he was," Gongaware repeated.
In another March 25, 2009, email, Ortega wrote Gongaware that it was Faye's "strong opinion that this is dangerous and impractical with consideration to Michael's health and ability to perform.".
"I thought he was in good shape at the press conference, I was there," Gongaware said at the deposition. Gongaware was at O2 arena and Phillips was with Michael.
"Michael was late, Randy [Phillips] was saying I'm trying to get him going, I'm trying to get him going".
Panish: "Did Randy tell you MJ was drunk and despondent?"
Gongaware: "No, not drunk and despondent. Just said he was having hard time getting him going"
As to Dr. Conrad Murray, Gongaware said there was 1 rehearsal he said hello to him.
"It was basically a hello, on the floor at the Forum. Mikey asked me to retain him. I never hired him"
Panish played an interview of Phillips to SkyTV after Michael died:
"The guy is willing 2 leave his practice for large sum of money, so we hired him"
"I was told Michael wanted him as his doctor for the show," Gongaware said. Gongaware said Michael did not have any illness that he knew of.
Gongaware: "He had taken a physical, he passed the physical and from what I understand there was nothing wrong with him. Maybe some hay fever"
Panish: "Do you know what his blood test showed?"
Gongaware: "It showed it was good"
Gongaware said he received an email from Bob Taylor that everything was fine and that Michael had passed the physical. Gongaware said he never saw the results of the tests and doesn't know who saw them.
Panish showed video deposition of Gongaware and a declaration he signed about a month before giving the deposition. They contradict themselves. At first, Gongaware insisted he did no negotiating with Murray, but, confronted with emails and his previous testimony, he changed his position and said, "The only thing I did with Dr. Murray was negotiate a price." Gongaware said that neither he nor anyone at the AEG investigated Murray's background or credentials

Panish: "First you said how much did you want?"(to Dr. Murray)
Gongaware: "Yes"
Panish: "He said he wanted $5 million, right?"
Gongaware: "That's what he said. He said he had four clinics he would have to close, he would have to lay people off"
Gongaware said Dr. Murray had been Michael's personal doctor for the past 3 years. He said he did not know how many times MJ had seen the doctor. "Michael insisted on him, recommended him, and that was good enough for me, it was not for me to tell him who his doctor should be" Gongaware said
"The fact that he had been Michael Jackson's personal physician for three years was good enough for me," Gongaware said.
He said that Murray initially asked for $5 million to travel to London with Jackson and tend to him during the tour. "I just told him it wasn't going to happen," he said, recalling that Jackson then suggested offering him $150,000 a month. "Michael Jackson insisted on it and recommended him and it was not for me to tell him no," said Gongaware. "I wanted to provide what was necessary for him to do his job...He wanted a doctor and I wanted him to be healthy." Even after the offer of $150,000, Murray wasn't satisfied. "He started saying he wanted more and I said, 'The offer is coming directly from the artist," Gongaware said. Minutes later, he said Murray accepted.
"Did that seem desperate to you?" asked Panish.
"No," said Gongaware. "He just accepted Michael's offer."
"We agreed on what the compensation was going to be, but there were a lot of issues to be resolved," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he recalled meeting with Dr. Murray where he was told the doctor was going to take care of the medical licensing in London. Gongaware and Timm Wooley are longtime friends. They are currently working on The Rolling Stones tour. Gongaware said he negotiated the price for Dr. Murray, but didn't negotiate the contract. Gongaware explained that he didn't do the negotiation, he would normally refer that to Wooley.
Dr. Finkelstein and Gongaware have been friends for 35-plus years. Gongaware said he never offered Dr. Finkelstein the job of being MJ's doctor and said the doctor would be mistaken if he testified otherwise. Gongaware told the jury he called Dr. Finkelstein to ask what a fair price for a tour doctor would be. Doctor told him it was $10,000/week. As to Dr. Finkelstein wanting to be the tour doctor, Gongaware said he didn't recall specifically, but knew he wanted it."After his death we may have talked, but I don't recall specifics," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he sees Dr. Finkelstein a few times a year, but the subject of Michael never came up. Panish asked Gongaware if Dr. Finkelstein wanted to know if Michael was clean or using drugs. Gongaware said he didn't recall the conversation

Panish asked: "You could have told Dr. Murray at any time that his services were no longer needed, couldn't you?"
"No", Gongaware replied.
Panish: "You were involved in terminating one of the nannies who took care of Michael's kids?"
Gongaware: "Yes"
Gongaware told nanny, Grace Rwamba, that her services would not be needed anymore because AEG was cutting down on Michael's expenses
"I never read the contract, I was there when Michael signed it, but didn't see what was in it," Gongaware said, "Doctor Murray was 100% Michael's cost" Based on the contract, Gongaware said 95% of the production expenses were Michael's responsibility, 5% AEG.
Panish: "Who decided there was a need for a written contract with Dr. Murray?"
Gongaware: "I don't know"
Gongaware said that if the tour went forward, Dr. Murray would've made $1.5 million for 10 months. Ortega would've made almost that.
Gongaware said although AEG never did a background check on Murray, in his view they had "checked out" the doctor according to their standard practices. "When we check out someone, we either rely on if we know the person or if they're known in the industry or if they're recommended by the artist & in this case, Dr. Murray was recommended by the artist, in fact, the artist insisted"
Panish pressed Gongaware:
"You did nothing to verify anything about Dr. Murray, isn't that true, sir?"
Panish asked Gongaware if he approved budgets for April-July including Dr. Murray as production expense. He said he didn't know which budgets he approved. "It's my job to get that show on the road," Gongaware said.
Gongaware said he had to know how much the production had spent at any given time, but didn't have time to read the budget.
Panish: "Do you think you're good at your job, sir?"
Gongaware: "Yes"
Panish: "Very good?"
Gongaware: "I think so"
Gongaware testified that he didn't pay attention to the tour budgets that he approved, even though he was the tour manager.Paul Gongaware said he didn't read through the budgets, instead trusting that the tour accountant knew what he was talking about.
Gongaware testified that Dr. Murray's salary, although included in the company's budget for several months, wasn't something he saw as an actual payment that would be made. "If there's a potential for cost we put it in our budget so there are no surprises later", he said.
Gongaware often pleaded poor memory of events. He said he may have met with Jackson as many as 10 times, but could remember only two of the meetings and only one when Murray was present
Gongaware said he doesn't remember how many meetings he attended at Carolwood house. He didn't recall a meeting where a vase was broken. "There was a meeting where he signed the contract," Gongaware recalled, saying there were more but he doesn't remember specifics. At the meeting in early June, Gongaware said he was present along with Kenny, Randy, Frank DiLeo, Dr. Murray and Michael. "The meeting was about making sure Michael and Dr. Murray had everything they needed to care for Michael," Gongaware explained.
"Yes, we did talk about health-related issues. It was more a general meeting about what Dr. Murray would need", Gongaware said. He had told the police the topic of the meeting was Jackson's overall health ( i.e., diet, stamina and his weight)
He remembered that Jackson arrived late from a doctor's appointment and had slurred speech. Gongaware said Michael Jackson "was a bit off". "He was just coming back from visiting Dr. Klein. I believe he was under the influence of something. That was the only time I saw him like that", Gongaware said.
Jackson had missed a rehearsal and was thought to be dancing at home. However they discovered he was only watching video. Doctor Murray was receptive to their concerns and indicated he would take care of the situation

Burgazada: A Hidden Gem Among Istanbul's Princes' Islands

Burgazada: A Hidden Gem Among Istanbul's Princes' Islands

Burgazada is the third largest of the Princes' Islands, located approximately 14 kilometers from Istanbul. It's a quieter and more relaxed island compared to Bükada or Heybeliada, making it a preferred spot among locals due to its unique location and magnificent natural scenery. The island has plenty of facilities and is used as a holiday resort by Istanbul residents.

https://preview.redd.it/8rfk6evyvj2b1.jpg?width=780&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ec7642e7d8e7af154649a5609a9682bade49f35
https://travellingtopic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/burgazada-istanbul-780x470.jpg

Getting to Burgazada

You can reach Burgazada by ferry from Bostancı port, which takes around 30 minutes. Alternatively, if you're staying in Taksim or Sultanahmet, you can take the ferry from Eminönü or Beşiktaş. The ferry ride takes around an hour, and a single trip costs 11 Turkish Liras per person.

History of Burgazada

Burgazada was formerly called Antigone, named after Antigonus, who was the commander of Alexander the Great. After the conquest of Constantinople, the island was named Phyrgos, and then it was changed to Burgaz. In the 19th century, the island became a summer resort for native Rums and other foreigners in Istanbul.

Exploring Burgazada

As soon as you get off the ferry, you can head to one of the patisseries across the street to grab some breakfast. Burgazada Mosque, built in 1953, is the only mosque on the island and offers stunning views. You can also visit the home of famous Turkish writer Sait Faik Abasıyanık, which has been converted into a museum.
The island has several churches, including the Greek Orthodox Church, which was built in 1728 and served as a shelter for the Belarusians after World War I. Burgazada is also known for its picturesque spots that are perfect for taking photos.
If you're a coffee lover, you'll find a wonderful coffee shop while wandering the streets of Burgazada. And if you're visiting during the summer months, make sure to bring enough water, sunscreen, and a hat. It's also better to explore the island in the spring or fall season.
Don't just stay around the main port, go and explore other parts of the island, such as the highest points, which offer spectacular views of the sea of Marmara and neighboring islands. And if you're too tired to walk back to the port, you can take an electric taxi for 20 Turkish Liras.

Dining in Burgazada

After walking for almost hours on the streets of Burgazada, we recommend dining at one of the island's best restaurants, which specializes in fish dishes. You can choose from fried or grilled fish and side dishes or "mezes" in Turkish. The restaurant also offers beautiful views of the other islands and the sea of Marmara.
During our visit, we enjoyed a delicious meal at a seafood restaurant. We ordered a fish dish that was enough for two people and paid 180 Turkish liras. The mezes we ordered were flavorful and could be prepared to your liking. We opted for grilled and it was juicy and delicious. If you love seafood, this is a must-visit place.
For dessert, we recommend trying the rmik helvas with cinnamon on top. It's the perfect sweet treat after a seafood meal. We spent the day exploring the beautiful streets of Burgazada, one of Istanbul's least visited islands. We highly recommend visiting this hidden gem.
Burgazada is one of the Princes' Islands located in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul, Turkey. It is the third largest of the Princes' Islands and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists looking for a peaceful retreat from the bustling city.

Here are some key points about Burgazada:

Location: Burgazada is situated about 20 kilometers southeast of Istanbul's city center. It is part of the Adalar district and is one of the four main Princes' Islands, the others being Büyükada, Heybeliada, and Kınalıada.
Size and Population: Burgazada covers an area of approximately 1.5 square kilometers. The island has a relatively small population, with a residential community of around 1,200 people. The number increases significantly during the summer months when tourists visit the island.
Tranquil Environment: Burgazada is known for its peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty. It offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city life of Istanbul. The island is free of motor vehicles, and transportation is mainly done by horse-drawn carriages (phaetons), bicycles, or on foot.
Natural Landscape: The island is characterized by its hilly terrain, covered with pine and olive trees. It has several walking paths that lead to beautiful viewpoints, where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Sea of Marmara and neighboring islands.
Historical and Cultural Sites: Burgazada is home to some notable historical and cultural sites. One of the prominent landmarks is the Church of St. John, a Greek Orthodox church dating back to the 18th century. There are also a few old mansions and summer houses that add to the island's charm.
Beaches and Recreation: The island offers a variety of recreational activities and beaches where visitors can relax and enjoy the sea. One of the popular beaches is Kalpazankaya Beach, located on the northeastern side of the island.
Restaurants and Cafes: Burgazada has a good selection of restaurants and cafes that offer both local and international cuisine. You can enjoy fresh seafood, traditional Turkish dishes, or simply have a cup of tea or coffee while taking in the island's serene ambiance.
To reach Burgazada, you can take a ferry from Istanbul's Kabataş or Bostancı ports. The ferry ride takes approximately one hour, providing a scenic journey across the Sea of Marmara.
Overall, Burgazada is a charming island getaway that offers a peaceful retreat, beautiful landscapes, and a break from the city's hustle and bustle. It's a perfect destination for those seeking relaxation, nature, and a glimpse into Istanbul's island life.

2023.05.28 12:29 MymothersnamewasAM A Wild Magic Zone system I have had a lot of success running with 2 parties thus far

I have ran this wild magic zone twice now, once for a 5-people level 7 party, and once for a two-member level 5 party. It worked great both times.
This wild magic zone requires a fair bit of improv on the DM side, but it has also resulted in some of the best roleplay I have seen from the players.
The general structure is as such: there are 4 decks of 12 cards. The first deck contains 'Area' cards, which describe the physical environment; the second deck contains 'People' cards, which describe the inhabitants of an environment; the third deck contains 'Goal' cards, which give the player a goal they must achieve in this section to move onto the next one; and the fourth deck contains 'Wild magic' cards, which mess up everything with a (occasionally undeclared) rule. (Ive posted the current 48 cards below)
The rules of the wild magic zone: 1. When the players first enter the Wild Magic Zone, draw 1 card from each deck, this is their current situation. 2. To exit the Wild Magic Zone, they must succeed in 4-6 zones (succeeding a 'goal' card counts as succeeding in a zone) - perhaps to reach a McGuffin at the centre of the Wild Magic Zone ? (this is what Ive done before) 3. As an action, a player may 'discard' one card from any one deck and draw the next one. It immediately goes into effect. Discarded cards do NOT return to the deck but remain discarded forever 4. Upon achieving a Goal, all four cards from all four decks are replaced immediately with new cards. 5. If a deck runs out of cards before the players succeed in their assigned Goal number, the players los (ejected from the Wild Magic Zone ? This never happened during my plays - this is not the purpose of the Wild Magic Zone, it is merely a theoretical warning against changing the cards too much)
To give an example, here is a random 4 card setup I just drew up randomly (12, 12, 3, 4)
Area: Statues of Gods long since forgotten surround you and coloured light passes through coloured glass. You find yourself in a temple to a religion you do not recognize
People: A panopticon-style prison
Goal: Capture a flaming bird
Wild Magic: All objects the players touch become animals
I would play this as: the players find themselves at the bottom of alarge panopticon-style prison complex ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panopticon ), where there are no guards but instead many statues who look at you with great intensity. Somewhere, near the middle-to-top floor they see a glow of bright flames, this, they instinctively know, is where the flaming bird resides
The statues are found at all pathway junctions and in front of all prison doors. The statues are (weakened, depending on player level) effectively beholders, but who shoot only 1 eye beam at offending payers they can sense someway
The challenge for the payers becomes to pass 3-4 sets of statues unseen, and open the prison door (maybe there's a key in a guard room ? or maybe the can lockpick or force their way in )
Both my groups have had alot of fun running this gauntlet, and maybe your group can have this fun as well :)
Cards:
AREA: 1. Beach 1. a lush beach area, with a white forest on the east side and a quiet sunset over a friendly, warm ocean on the west
  1. Forest
    1. a rich temperate forest littered everywhere with old trees, little groves, and meandering, lightly-trodden paths seeming leading to nowhere
  2. Desert
    1. Endless sand, canyons, and wadis, like a semi-arid desert that has not yet had rain this season
  3. Mountains
    1. ever-expanding mountains with permafrost at the top and pine forest at the bottom. There are many caves and hidden pathways to those who look
  4. Space
    1. Far below there is a great plane of many colours, above there are infinite stars. Around you there are many asteroids of various sizes gently floating. Some of these could only hold a few houses, others which could house an entire city. (you can breathe just fine).
  5. Underwater
    1. You are deep below the surface, swimming over corals are many-coloured fish. To your right there is a great sloping wall leading to a surface you cannot sea, to your left there is an eternity of deep, blue ocean. (you can breathe just fine)
  6. Pure light
    1. You are standing on land you cannot see, as both the ground and the sky are made of pure light. The brightness blinds you for a second, but once you're used to it, you can see as you could normally
  7. Pure darkness
    1. You are standing on land you cannot see, as both the ground and the sky are made of pure darkness. After a few seconds your eyes adapt, and you can see, but only half as far as normally
  8. Yggdrassil
    1. An enormous tree stands before you, the roots of which extend in every direction further than you can see. The trunk is almost 100 meters across, and extends well beyond the clouds above. There are many branches of every width and colour at all levels.
  9. Endlessly tall treetops
    1. You find yourself atop a tree, and as far as the eye can see there are more trees in every direction. You cannot see the ground below, but find easy methods of moving from tree to tree
  10. Caves
    1. Damp and rot assault your senses as you find yourself underground in a large hall with cave tunnels leading out in 8 directions
  11. Statues of Gods long since forgotten surround you and coloured light passes through coloured glass. You find yourself in a temple to a religion you do not recognize
PEOPLE:
  1. An ancient red dragon and a dracolich are battling, whilst many people huddle away in various corners far away, watching the fight
  2. A mystical castle shrouded in purple mist, with strange creatures of all shapes and oddities move in and out DM note: this is a fairy castle :)
  3. A small, little village of no more than 50 people, most of whom seem occupied in preparing for a festival
  4. Endless rows of monoliths in every direction with text written on them in every conceivable (and inconceivable) language. There is a short, elderly woman walking between them
  5. a large colloseum, with people streaming in and out. Inside the loud cheers of audiences and the grunts of battle can be heard DM note: to reach the Lord, the players must roll 1d6, and are accepted on a 6+. If they enter the arena, they can fight a number of monsters, each of whcih will add +1 to their eventual roll (adjust to suit level of party, this was for 2 level 6 chars):
    1. [Giant Boar](https://5thsrd.org/gamemaster_rules/monsters/giant_boa) 2. [Centaur](https://5thsrd.org/gamemaster_rules/monsters/centau) 3. [Berserker](https://5thsrd.org/gamemaster_rules/monsters/berserke) 4. [Bandit Captain](https://5thsrd.org/gamemaster_rules/monsters/bandit_captain/) 5. [Hyppogriph](https://5thsrd.org/gamemaster_rules/monsters/hippogriff/) 6. [Dire wolf](https://5thsrd.org/gamemaster_rules/monsters/dire_wolf/)
  6. Faceless voids are wandering about, with scared people and animals hiding wherever they may
  7. 2 magic circles, each surrounded by either blue or red mages, each summoning monsters to attack the other DM note: each circle is headed by 1 Mage ( https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/16947-mage) (adjust to suit level of party, this was for 2 level 6 players (mages would lose spellslots 4 & 5))
  8. A lost caravan, but the carts and the clothes all seem odd DM NOTE: they're from the future :)
  9. an eternal armies of zombies, marching in from the north and exiting from the south
  10. A large city of steam and steal, occupied only by robots DM note:they're scared of fleshy things - the concept of rot and decay is lovecraftian to them
  11. A grand palace, but everyone inside and out is frozen in place, not moving or responding to any prompt
  12. A panopticon-style prison
GOAL:
  1. Find a blue goat and feed him
  2. there is a bomb somwhere, dismantle it DM note: the players have 1h real-time to accomplish this
  3. Capture a flaming bird
  4. Kill the Lord of the system
  5. Attend a wedding (between sentient creatures)
  6. Win a competition
  7. Make the world go dark
  8. Create a fire 80 meters tall
  9. Introduce a new festival to the denizens of the region
  10. Swim in a pool of blood
  11. Survive DM note: this one's fun, but bery DM dependent
  12. learn 10 new recipes
WILD MAGIC:
  1. The players become the size of mice
  2. The players can speak only lies
  3. NPC's recognize the players (1d6 on attitude):

    5. seeking revenge
    6. afraid
  4. All objects the players touch become animals
  5. 2 previously used wild magics are activated simultaneously (if fewer than 2 have been used so far, instead reveal 1 or 2 wild magics as needed plus any previously used ones)
  6. The edge of the region is on fire. The fire is slowly closing in
  7. The players keep changing places with each other DM note: whenever they roll a die, on below a 5 they change places with the player the number rolled
  8. Players are 6 years old again
  9. Whenever a player rolls a 1-5 on a d20, a random spell of that level / 2 (1-2: 1; 3-4: 2; 5: 3) is cast centered on the player
  10. the stars are falling
  11. There is an assassin in the world, whose sole purpose is to kill the players
  12. every player rolls a 1d6, they feel super:
    1. happy
    2. angry
    3. sad
    4. depressed / hopeless
    5. jealous
    6. overconfident

2023.05.28 12:29 Grimalkins_Star Little biting things in the water near Hickam Beach.

Aloha everyone.
So I have been on Oahu for about 6 years, and I have NEVER been bitten by anything in the water or beach.
Until the last few months.
Over near Hickam Beach, around Dog beach to be specific, I have noticed little sand colored critters biting me in the shallow waters.
I thought it was maybe sand fleas, but I heard they don't bite here? Next time I go I will try to catch and get a pic of one. It's super annoying cause they kinda hurt, but at least you can just brush them off you.
I want to point out that dog beach is basically just a huge shallow sandbar so maybe it there specific habitat? Would love to know what they are!

2023.05.28 12:23 goatxoxo Decent hotels near Sector 80

Hi everyone, I'm from Mumbai. I'll be visiting Noida with my dad in the coming week for work purpose and we're looking for hotels to stay for around a week near Sector 80. We'll primarily be using the hotel only for sleeping and getting ready in the morning, since we'll be out for most of the day so I'm not really looking for anything fancy.
Will there be options for around 1.5k to 2k per night?

2023.05.28 12:18 cornwallnudist Footprints in the sand

Footprints in the sand
This is the picture I took of the word NUDE stamped out in soft sand on the beach yesterday. It is a bit tricky to make out, but as you know it is there it should be readable. Wonder how many people spotted it yesterday. The word is hard to make out - just below the pebble line.
I did think on the way home that it might have been soft enough to make a star angel too... oh well, maybe next time.
I really do think that yesterday for the first time "I did me" (as in the saying "you do you, and never bother about others") and it was a proper nudist day, probably the first time this has been the case. Needless to say (it isn't a "nude beach") I was respectful to other users and kept discreet when people were in seeing distance (several people must have seen me in the distance), but at no point did I feel the need to cover up due to worrying about someone showing up near my tent.
It was surprisingly easy to strip down as soon as I got there too, and stay stripped down.

2023.05.28 11:33 jumpinjacks12345 May 2023 Report/Tips: Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Cinque Terre

We just got back, Italy is magical. Only been to Rome once before as part of Europe hopping trip about 10 years ago. Some thoughts and tricks on our 10 nights, hope it's helpful for others:
Weather: Don't stress too much on forecasts even a week out. Check before leaving and adjust wardrobe or add a light rain jacket if needed. Originally our entire trip showed rain the whole time. Realistically there was a 1 drizzly day in Venice and 2 hour of rain (ominous with thunder) in Florence. The rest of the time was cloudy or beautiful and clear. Cinque Terre was absolutely clear and 70, but dang that sun when hiking was brutally hot. App: Il Meteo
Download WhatsApp - everyone including hotels, restaurants, business, taxi driver (see below) uses it.
Esim: Airalo worked well for us Samsung S22 and Pixel 6. Did have to reboot my S22, but worked really well and between the 2 of us used about 5GB so couldn't gone with less data. One phone did the Europe regional and another the Italy Mamma Mia one. Some restaurants do have dead zones, some have Wifi, another was like these signs on the wall are your wifi....
Driving: You definitely need a car for Tuscany if you want to be on your own timetable, we rented out of Florence and returned in La Spezia. Beware some of the routes on Google Maps, although reliable there were 2 instances we went off roading when an asphalt road was right there. Then we needed to u-turn on the outskirts of Pisa and it was trying to get us to make this impossible stone walled turn and the locals were like yeah Google Maps has people do this and no one has made that so just turn back around. Also lesson learned for us - just do the rental company insurance, event though my credit card offers primary, we got a larger mid size SUV vs Fiat 500 and with the narrow streets, for me the reduced stress would've been worth it when we had to wiggle the car out some spots - but we came out scratch free. On a side note, we got a Lynk & Co car, which was neat and loved Android Auto as we use it at home. Rented thru Hertz. If you use the toll roads (which can make your life a lot faster sometime), make sure you grab a ticket coming in, we didn't get one for 1 segment, luckily getting off of it, the remote attendant spoke english, a little annoyed, but let us pay the fare from where we came from.
Parking: The meters we encountered in Montepulciano, Siena, Pisa seemed straight forward but sometimes card wouldn't work, the english translation was bad and cancelled out transaction multiple times. Just download EasyPark which seems to work everywhere, GPS your zone, link to GooglePay or credit card, license and boom, spin the clock - small fee less than 10%, but damn was it easy and you can add time or end early....
Trains: Download Trenitalia app, book any train instantly, get train status (where is the train currently), and see any station's timetable. Our Venice to Florence train did get delayed and stopped here and there in Bologna one weekend due to the flood damage, luckily our train wasn't cancelled. 5 days later, all trains seems to be back on track. Missed the big 5/26 strike by one day but I was seeing some trains via the app still scheduled. Basically be mentally prepared for any issues, booked an InterCity (assigned seats) from La Spezia to Pisa ahead of time but day of just waited to see when to schedule the regional from Pisa to Florence, so easy via app and you can see how often they run (30 mins for this route) and buy on demand as your schedule permits.
Booking museums/sights: It can be very tricky to google and find official booking sites as there are a lot of 3rd parties who want to get you a "front of the line pass" with a tour for a large markup. So I tried to book thru official sites as much as I can, for the life of us we couldn't get the Doges official to go through so did get those from Get the Guide for less than 5 euro markup for 2. If you are flexible and go off hours, you can do standby and avoid the nominal online booking fee and time spot, we only did these for some, not all. Maybe don't listen to me during summer months. But we did very little waiting - see below
Food: Note that I found classic italian cooking is much more simple, subtle and just pure flavors. Stuff was beautiful but by California standards, a tad underseasoned although some places did put out salt and pepper (default not request) for some dishes like a burrata. This is also coming from here in SoCal where birria is not enough it's birria ramen and hot cheetos encrusted this or that and 5 different types of toppings for mac and cheese - you know stuff for Instagram.... But I totally appreciated the approach and loved it.
Cities - we tend to do a lot on vacation, it may have been a touch quick but it was so fun, we did get a bit sick just with all the weather and change but nothing serious but was glad to get the downtime in Tuscany, we hit it hard first 2 places Venice and Florence. You may vacation differently, this was also our first trip abroad in 7 or so years so wanted to see ALLTHETHINGS.
Accommodations - We did mostly Airbnb which in Europe requires a meetup vs self check in. Did an incredible bed and breakfast (see Montepulciano) and finally a hotel in Florence for last night which I highly recommend for location and service - Arte Boutique (they helped me track down a lost backpack in a taxi, see below).
Safety - felt pretty safe and not scammy in all of our cities our Airbnb host in Florence said Italy overall is safe but he did confirm Rome you need to be more aware. Honestly we only carried 350 euro with us from US bank and that was plenty, near the end we were needing to use it up as everyone takes card, tap to pay, ApplePay and GooglePay freely. Taxi drivers do prefer cash
Staying calm story - we were ending our trip from Florence to airport in in my rush I left my backpack in backseat of taxi, it was gone before I realized we had our rollers and his backpack and duffel but not mine. Luckily my husband was like ok we will call the hotel (the only one we happened to book) who arranged the taxi, and luckily they tracked him down and he came back due to us allotting tons of time before departure. I had to pay the fare again for the backpack fare but was so relieved. We corresponded via WhatsApp after making the initial call to hotel.
Venice: 2 nights
- Sights: Doges (booked via Get the Guide) was cool, not the biggest museum person. Walk over Bridge of Sighs was uneventful from inside. St Mark Basilica had no advance tickets, but did standby for 3 eupp about 20 min before opening and got in within 10 mins, then hopped over to Campanile Tower w/o tickets, no line around 9-9:30 AM - great views.
- Eat: Faves were the quick bites chichetti (All'Arco, Cantina Do Spade), coffee and pastries and gelato (loved Suso). Our sit downs were not bad, just not mind blowing at Ai Mercanti and Imprompta (although seafood good). Also there's a small bar inside Cafe Florian if you want a macchiato for under 5 euro vs sitting down for a 12 euro cappucino and want a mini experience w/o wait.
It can be crowded mid-day but will calm down, very cool to walk or take vaparetto around and get lost, oops this alley dumps into a canal....
Florence: 2 nights
- Sights: Prebooked Galleria Accademia (a must, always a line), good museum experience if you don't necessarily need hours, so neat to see David here. Because not huge museum people, passed on the Uffuzi. Someone at lunch said hey Medici is cool, so did that on a whim w/o any wait and very cool, glad we did it on the fly. Prebooked Boboli Gardens, kinda tired by the time we got here and it had been drizzly and a bit humid, but nice to stroll. The larger fountain area you can't walk through anymore (Ocean fountain?). Also Piazza Michaelangelo for the Florence city center view. Lots of great shopping here, suggest start at Vale for a leather shop.
- Food: Ok so All Antico Vinaio although touristy is legit sandwich, very good and worth it. Tip: go to San Marco location, smaller wait by Galleria Accademia. GustaPizza was legit and very reasonable 7 euro for Margherita?! Fave gelato was Gelato Dei Neri and My Sugar. Mercato Centrale super cool to walk, shop for products, eat if you like. Trattoria Mario, email ahead for reservations - 1.1 kg florentine steak with small sides and salami/cheese plate all for under $70. Dall'Oste was good florentine but much pricier and touristy but had a good Montalcino wine there, book on website for discount for seatings outside of peak times, our 6 PM had 15% discount on food.
Tuscany: 2 nights Montepulciano, 1 night Siena
So beautiful, just the drive through Val D'Orcia. We stopped by San Gimignano and did the tower with no wait (150 stairs), Gelateria Donderia is overrated but fine, GO GO GO to Da'A'Mariani for sandwich here, sweet sweet man and just off the main street - recommended by Pasticcheria Il Criollo which was fabulous just outside city wall.
Stayed in Montepulciano, which was SO fabulous. Our true bed and breakfast was only 3 suites run on a property by 2 americans who moved to Italy - true hospitality and modern yet italian suite. They are booked solid this year, but it was sooo special. Huge breakfast spread every morning. It was true paradise there and the owners are gems - made awesome restaurant recommendations and reservations, driving route, etc. DM me if you want the name but don't bet on getting in for 2023. Restaurants in Montepulciano were Osteria Porto Di Baccio - great antipasto meat/cheese and pici, great typical osteria in wine cave then Le Logge Vignola which was very creative for a very reasonable price - you definitely need reservations for both maybe a few days ahead as both are fully booked by dinner. Gelato recc here would be Scarbia.
Siena - had the Siena OPA Si pass which I recommend, everything except the roof tour. Cathedral inside is a sight to see and includes works by Michaelangelo and Dontatello - ask worker where they are at, definitely do panaroma. This was helpful https://www.earthtrekkers.com/how-to-visit-the-siena-cathedral/ Walk to PastaZuf down the way from Piazza Campo for legit casual takeway pasta for 5-6 euro
Cinque Terre: 2 nights Riomaggiore
Yup, did Pisa as a quick stop on way to drop off car, it's neat and lots of parking (EasyPark app) to get in/out.
Stayed in Riomaggiore, CT is definitely touristy during the day but quiets down. Rick Steves was right, not overhyped. Every city is absolutely gorgeous. Did the hike from Monterosso-Vernazza-Corniglia - yes the HARD way with those stairs first leg but it was very rewarding and fun, can be tight in spots, started at 8 AM and ended in Corniglia around 11:15, start early as you can for less crowds. Train makes it easy to hop towns. Dinners included Rio Bistrot in Riomaggiore (checked in at lunch for dinner reservation same night) and Ristorante Belforte - both great views and suprisingly great food! Tasting menu is way to go at Rio Bistrot. Quick bites include fried seafood, so good. Be prepared for all the elevation/stairs/walking.
Edits: Add safety section, accommodations, and staying calm story.

2023.05.28 11:20 Pulelehua Hurricane season is here again and we think it’s always good to be prepared and stay informed. Here are some helpful resources to assist you, your families, and communities.

As many of you might know ~ the NOAA recently put out their annual report for 2023. You can read more details in the link below.
https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/noaa-predicts-near-or-above-normal-2023-central-pacific-hurricane-season#:~:text=For%20the%202023%20season%2C%204,depressions%2C%20tropical%20storms%20and%20hurricanes.
National forecasters recently upped the chances that a “potentially significant” El Niño will form soon. Also scheduled to start soon, on June 1, is hurricane season. The strength and location of storms we see could be influenced by the return of El Niño for the first time in years.
While El Niño can strengthen hurricane season in the central and eastern Pacific, it tends to contribute to weaker hurricanes forming in the Atlantic basin. During La Niña years, the opposite is true.
Hurricane season in the Atlantic and central Pacific runs from June 1 to Nov. 30 every year. The eastern Pacific’s season starts a bit earlier, on May 15. The strongest storms are usually observed between mid-August and mid-October.

We have gathered and put together a list of some helpful resources for anyone who’s interested. Also a few links that might assist you and your families to be better prepared for whatever this hurricane season may bring.

2023.05.28 11:15 Correct_Driver2908 Best place to live, near Tokyo.

Hello everyone, hoping all is well this Sunday. My visa just got approved for Japan (I am currently staying in Tokyo on a tourist visa) and I’m trying to find a place to buy a house, that’s a little out of Tokyo.. for 2 main reasons.
  1. I’m more productive when I’m around less friends, and I can focus on my work.
  2. You get more bang for your buck being out of the city.
So with those points in question I am looking to buy a small house outside (or greater) Tokyo, and then driving in a couple of days a week to see friends, socialise, whatever.
My requirements are
With that in question, I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions of places near-ish to Tokyo that I could start looking into. Much thanks for reading and please don’t castrate me if I made a mistake. I have spent months looking at property websites but it’s very hard to gauge what an area is like as I mostly spend time in Tokyo and Osaka when I’m in Japan.
