2023.05.27 16:58 arecoline Multi mig welder roller question

Hi everyone!
I am nee to welding and recently bought a Nutool RSN165 mig multi welder.
My issue is I cannot for the life of me find a knurled roller for flux core welding (and the machine only comes with smooth rollers).
Could I use the smooth rollers for flux core welding at all?
Alternatively, if anyone knows where I could find the specific roller (in Europe) that would be a massive help!

M1101 that I recently purchased. I built the rack out of mostly steel tubing. I bought the little Titanium flux core welder and it worked like a champ! I eventually plan to enclose the trailer for a sleeping area. Next step will probably be downsizing the wheels and tires.

2023.05.23 10:40 SpaceBandito Tips for going to the shop from the field

I’m a career iron worker heading for the fab shop. I consider myself a pretty good stick welder but I’m just looking for some tips for the mig. I’ve used hardwire before but they also use flux core which I have not. Im heading in there today to do a weld test and I haven’t lied to them about my experience but would like to avoid common issues I might not know since I primarily used stick. All tips are super appreciated treat me like a 5 year old who understands the concept of a weld.

Weld cracks when cools, what technique should I be using?
Cut two slots in 1/4” wall, 4”x4” square tubing, slid over top of these two 3/4” flat bars. Welded the square tubing to the flat bar on the outside, and the inside. The inside keeps cracking when it cools. I’ve cut it out with plasma cutter two times and tried less heat and then hit it with the needle scaler to try release tension but no luck. I’m not a welder, just a farmer.
Using a Hobart MVP 210 with flux core 0.035 wire on 240.

2023.05.21 13:37 defaultclouds Love my troybilt

It’s about 8 years old. It’s self propel and has a self washing feature (garden hose hook up) that i never used not once because i heard somewhere it causes the main bearing to fail. It’s always started on the first pull. Cold garage kept and never used fuel treatment. The only fail was a corroded deck with a split about 4 years ago and a small spot weld with a cheap flux core welder fixed it. It would be nice to have the more powerful motor for rare occasions where the grass got too long but i wonder what the draw back for that would be. I just want to say way to go troybilt! You’ve got one happy customer.

Any notes or suggestions are appreciated
My side business is woodworking and I've had a huge increase in commissions with metal legs or frames, like dining tables, coffee table, bookshelves, in the past year and decided to explore making these components myself.
Friend gave me his harbor freight flux core welder he bought and used one time years ago. Watched some videos and tested it out today and appreciate any comments. Especially anything on reducing the splatter.
.030 wire on 3/16 steel. 9 wire speed on max setting since that's what the chart on the machine listed. Each pass is about 1/4 inch. Thank you!

Help a newbie! Please
Hello all! I’m a construction superintendent and technically a rough and finish carpenter by trade, I have worked a lot with welders and have a general understanding of Welding and metal fabrication, I have been put in charge of the structural welding on my site and am now in charge of about 50 welders. I have been trying to learn as much as I can about mig and stick welding in order to better assist my guys. Here are some passes I made yesterday on some scrap. Any advice would be appreciated! I want to be able to help my guys when there weld a don’t turn out right or if they’re working in tricky spaces. And so I also don’t make their life any harder then it is. Thank you in advanced!
Oh also this is flux core 0.045 wire running on a Miller pipeworx400 set at about 22a and 250 for wire speed

2023.05.20 04:06 9atoms n00b First time setup for Tig torch

I recently bought a Harbor Freight Omnipro 220 and I need advice on where to start in terms of baby's first Tig setup - and if I should even bother with this particular machine. I want to work with 304L and 316L, mild steels and brazing or welding copper and brass. Mostly tubing and sheet around 1/16 for copper and ss and maybe some thicker ss and mild steel to 1/8 or so. I figure a good start is to get the hang of laying beads on mild steel and maybe try to butt-weld some copper tube fittings for kicks. Eventually I want to weld thicker stuff but I know that requires a bigger machine and gets into water cooled torch territory.
I originally bought the welder for doing some cave man welding, hobby stuff, using flux core and I am mostly self taught save for being taught the basics of stick welding by an old machinist long ago. I recently had the pleasure of talking to a master Tig welder and learned how versatile it is. So that inspired me to learn the process.

Dual shield welding
I’m mainly a stick welder. This is my first time doing flux core or dual shield. I’m welding 1/4” angle iron to 3/16” c Chanel. Running at 23 volts and not sure about the wire speed , because the the display on the machine I’m using doesn’t work.

Anyone near Dallas that can help me slap together something as far as exhaust so I can get to LS Fest this weekend? Trying to at least get a muffler on each pipe and then I’ll worry about taking my time later. I have $$ for anyone that can help. Also, I have a flux core welder with stainless wire we can use. Car is on a hydraulic lift. Thanks!

2023.05.16 18:05 backandredmedia good welder for 1/4" steel on 220V

Looking for recommendations for a MIG welder that will do 1/4" steel and not be too pricey. However not looking to go the Harborfreight route as I have been burned by their stuff before.
My goal is to do some structural stuff around the house and also starting making furniture, garage upgrades and some garden planters/features. Previous experience has been with my own small Lincoln flux core welder from Home Depot and I was a member at a metal working co-op here in Los Angeles which was shut down due to COVID. At that co-op I used 220V Miller MIG welders frequently so thats pretty much what I am looking for, but wanted to ask the community what they thought.
thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
cheers,

Hey there,
Still haven't welded anything so this is still up for trades
This Mac Tool MM200S
This is a tig welder, a stick welder and a mig welder.
Stick clamp low use Tig has the button start and the foot pedal Mig gun has the flux core nose on it and is the spool in there, will also include a non flux core spool
This is a synergetic system for mig so you can input the thickness of your material and it'll change the amps to the correct setting.
Great starting welding for learning
Trades I'm looking for [TV:$2000]:
11.5" MCX plus cash sony A7iii mirrorless Dule nods but I add a lot of cash
SV: $1650 if that's your thing
Thanks for looking, if you have any questions lemme know

2023.05.13 20:25 itsanaction Been on job for 2 months, just found out we have to be certified

I’m a field welder doing a commercial remodel with flux core (E71T-11). I work for a local mom and pop shop and we’ve been on the job for 2 months. Just passed our first weld inspection and now contractor needs our certs but none of us are certified in FCAW. The owner says we can take the test and pass even though the cert will be dated later than the inspection. Is this legal?
Also, what is an industry standard raise for getting 3G & 4G FCAW 3/8 plate test cert? I’ve always felt at least a dollar raise.

Apparently flux core will only go up to 70A on 120V. I know it's a cheaper welder but that seems a little low. Anyone used flux core on this?

2023.05.13 00:36 Trax95008 Where to get Gas

I’m new to welding, and a buddy gave me a welder. (Lincoln 140C) I’ve been using it with some flux core wire, but I’d really like to get gas. I looked into my local supplier (airgas) and they want me to create an account and fill out a form with some crazy info… SS number, info on the owner of the house I live in… it seems extreme. Is this necessary? Is there somewhere I can go to buy a bottle of gas? How is it any different than the bottles of propane I have in my back yard?? (I understand we are dealing with higher pressure) what are my options?

2023.05.10 04:30 Jackalope121 Looking for an upgrade to my welding helmet.

I wouldnt call myself a welder by any stretch but i did stay in a holiday inn once. Anyway, i do a little shade tree flux core at home and find myself doing more and more at work too and id like to upgrade from the cheap hazzard fart one at home and/or at least have a nice one for work besides the crusty one the shop provides. Not looking to break the bank, just something that is going to be a step up.

2023.05.06 03:13 delsystem32exe what is the best techniques for pressure welding?

i have a $200 amazon inverter flux core welder and i am designing a pressure tank for 4000 psi.
The tank will store compressed oxygen at 4000psi. I picked out my pipe selection and gave the parameters for wall thickness and an online Barlow’s Formula calc said its good for that psi, now i need to just weld both ends closed with 1/2" plate steel.
the tank will be tested with compressed water to 4000psi after construction and if it does not fail, then it is safe for use.
might put the pipe in some sort of rotary jig idk for weld consistency.
