2023.05.28 14:14 Responsible-Dish-977 As far as I'm concerned, "Terminator Resistance" is the true ending to the franchise. T3-Dark Fate movies never happened.

If the terminator movies have proved 1 thing over the years: there is no such thing as 'canon'. Filmmakers of a franchise can completely change what is "canon" whenever it wishes.
In my opinion, the only true thing that is "canon" is what the fans believe in the most.
And as far as I'm concerned, "The Terminator" franchise consists of only 3 parts: The Terminator (1984), Terminator 2 Judgement Day (1991), and Terminator: Resistance.
Terminator Resistance gave the franchise the PERFECT ending.
For me, that is always where the Terminator series ends.

Would be cool if you could too but no worries if you can’t. Weekends I’m mostly free.
Very discreet here obviously, not trying to change your situation or mine. Looking for a “cum and go” type of arrangement. Prefer married or in a relationship to keep the same dynamic.
Expect to talk over DMs and get to know each other a bit. Im not looking to suck or top, just looking for a handjob buddy.
I’m 34 years old, 6 foot 1, 205 musculachubby build, 6 inch cut, white, bald guy
Hit me up with your schedule, location, full stats, what kind of porn you’re into, thanks.

2023.05.28 14:12 Livid-Doughnut-5399 For those of you with small kids (2-say 10/11), how much time do you spend playing with them?

As per title really. I feel I don't actually spend enough time playing with my 6 year old daughter. Normally, I'm either tired from work, it's close to dinner time or we have other things that just need doing. I need to change this though and spend more time with her.
I want to get her riding a bike but she's just not interested. She's really scared of it, and because the stabilisers don't touch the ground the whole time, she's just not interested in learning despite asking for a bike for Christmas. It feels like such a waste. I'm going to try and find new stabilisers to encourage her.
I also want to find aa new activity that we can learn together, something I haven't done before.
So, as per the question really. What kind of activities do you do with your kids, how much time a day / week, and what new ideas have you got? Outdoors would be preferred but indoors ok as well.

2023.05.28 14:12 RoachForLife Dumb question on manually setting static IPs on some devices

Hi all, so still pretty new to pihole. So far its been fun, definitely a journey as I get all my devices with static IPs the way I want, and working with pihole DNS. Question is prompted because where I am at now, the amount of blocks has decreased significantly.
Question - So my router has a limit of 64 static ips that can be set (annoying). I had tried piholes dhcp but ran into some issues so attempting to reduce the number of address reservations on my router so see if I can get it to work fully and keep things simpler. Anyhow I went into some devices and put in the static ip, subnet, gateway to my router. On the DNS settings I put both 1 and 2 to point to the router, and on the router, under dhcp I set those both to pihole. My thinking if if I ever need to take the pihole out or doing maintenance I can simply update the one router and all devices (say 15 manually set) I dont have to redefine, it will just point to the new DNS. Is this the correct process? I can hard code the pihole DNS on the machine but again, its a bit of work changing all of these in the event of a failure of the pi or whatnot.
Question 2 - I guess that goes to my 2nd question, which is more of a router question. Assuming I can set things up the way I describe, Im noticing since yesterday I have so many less 'blocked queries' that I did a few days ago when using pihole dhcp. One thing I did which may be contributed is the following: - So my router (tplink) is weird in that I dont define the dhcp hand out range like I did on a netgear or even pihole dhcp, instead it shows the range that the dhcp lives in. TPLink calls it "address pool". I noticed for example if I put .50 to .250, and then try to add a static ip of say .49, it will say its not in that range. The issue with this is that I would like to have my IPs like .10-.19 for PCs, .20-.29 for Laptops, .30-.39 for TVs, etc. Since I purposely have a bunch of gaps (ie only .10 to .15 is filled in now, leaving .16-.19 empty on purpose), if I set this range to start at .10 then it could be filled with dhcp devices which I dont want. I want any device starting with say .50 to be an undefined one. '
So I noticed my TP Link router I could lower the starting range, to add the entry, and then when done, I changed the value to .50 and it took it. Sorry finally getting to my question, so Im wondering if this is adding some confusion and it doesnt know to assigned the piholes DNS to the entries below .50 now? The internet seems to work for those devices yet Im not seeing a lot of activity within the dashboard which has me questioning. Hopefully what I did should still work but if anyone has any experience or maybe some repair command I should run or something.
Question 3 - Within my TP Link router there is a place within the 'internet' side of things where I can define a DNS. This is currently set to 192.168.1.254. According to the guide this was not an area to change but wondering if this needs to be changed in some way? Right now I am changing on the DHCP page only (again, both 1 and 2 set to piholes IP)

Thanks all for your continued help!

2023.05.28 14:12 Wolven91 Human made ai are well known for their "uniqueness". Which tends to leave many aliens deeply uncomfortable.

Human made ai are well known for their
"I... didn't think human AIs were a 'thing'?" Said Doctor Marscell.
The fik adjusted her glasses along the bridge of her nose as she walked with the senior technician towards the human ship. The spoke whilst moving, they encountered no one on their way to the secure hanger.
"Well according to official records there's not. So you're aware Doctor, the ship we're about to board does not exist. When you decouple, you are 'missing' from the station and when you return, the official records and cameras will have you stood merely observing the 'empty' hanger bay until you leave the hanger bay along this corridor."
"I see, and if anything goes wrong?" She asked looking at the taurian male who paused at the closed door and bowed his head respectfully at her. She was his senior and considered a critical part of the research station command staff, everyone showed her difference, but the risks she was undertaking was of special note.
"They've already grown a flash clone of you to leave and be found. Records will state heart attack."
"Very well. What do we know of it?" She asked, pressing her palm against the reader whilst glancing up at the security bar that would be recording her. The door opened silently and the apur stepped through.
"Human design and make, but not made for humans."
"How so?"
"It's too big for them."
"From the top, why is this considered human AI then? Why have I been requested?" She asked as they descended a lift to the access level. The hanger was mostly devoid of life. Robotics maneuvered and busied themselves, refueling, painting and repairing the vessel.
"Pilot knew where to find us, gave all up to date clearance codes, then, once it had docked, we were alerted that the pilot had simply broke straight through our defences and stolen the security codes."
"I bet that was a tense moment."
"Mm, what was interesting was that the owner of the ship had been the one to inform command. By accessing their personal computer and creating a 'pop-up'. She was most perturbed."
Doctor Marscell laughed at the image.
"Well that sounds very human to say the least." The fik agreed thinking back to her friend and former lover. She still missed her dearly.
"Well it's the only reason it wasn't immediately destroyed." The taurian gestured to the powered down cannons that sat attached to the ceiling. "Or so we thought. The message also have a few demands, ones we weren't about to agree to."
"But?" She asked as they approached a door that would grant them access to the ship.
"But we don't currently have control of the hanger bay."
"What?"
"The AI on board this ship has complete control of this hanger bay and connected systems. The station AI hasn't been destroyed, but essentially, and I'm quoting this ship now; 'temporarily labotomised'."
The two entities stopped at the doorway and watched each other.
"So why me then?"
"It asked for you and you alone to come pilot it. I'm just here to escourt you as it allowed one to accompany you."
The doctor turned to the ship, which had silently opened its access door without prompting. It was clean and modern inside.
"What's the SOP?"
"There is no SOP. All I know, is you are to go to the bridge, quote 'climb into the command bath' and pilot thr ship. That was the grand total of its demands. Afterwards we'd like you to come back so we can inspect it."
"Understood."
The fik took a deep breath, and stepped into thr uninhabited craft. The taurian didn't enter and watched her as she glanced at a map printed onto the wall. Several coloured lines on the floor diverged and disappeared down different hallways. The map indicated the bridge was at the end of the yellow line.
It took the fik ten minutes to make her way to the bridge, no once encountering any sign of life bar herself. She hummed a tune to herself, she never felt unsafe, she trusted humanity. But it did feel lonely.
The bridge was the first major oddity that she encountered, besides the ghost ship.
A bridge is the nerve centre of a craft. Consoles, screens, read outs and a big chair were constant across all designs.
But when Doctor Marscell entered, she found an empty room with the exception of a glass sphere. There was a platform and stairs that led to the top of the sphere where an opening hatch was found.
"Climb in..." She didn't like it. Glancing around herself, she saw the same security stripe running along the wall, illuminating the room while monitoring it.
"If you kill me, I'm going to be very annoyed."
Nothing changed, no one responded, but the doctor wasn't one to be afraid of the new. She derobed and climbed the stairs. She opened the hatch, sat on the edge and swung her legs round, dangling them into the sphere.
"Here goes."
When she landed into the orb, nothing happened at first. Then the hatch closed.
Gel began to pour into the orb, filling it rapidly. Now she began to panic and attempted to open the hatch once more, only to find it securely locked.
"Oh you suck!" Was the only thing she could say before the orb filled entirely with the viscous gel. It made it hard for her to move and thrash, she clawed at the edges of the opening before her screaming lungs demanded she breathe in.
When she gasped and the clear gel entered her lungs, she expected to cough, splutter or feel like she was drowning. Instead, she merely coughed and breathed in again. She breathed out and breathed in. It was harder to do, but her body pulled oxygen from the strange goo.
She relaxed and opened her eyes. It didn't sting. 'Huh'. She thought.
'Hello again.'
Doctor Marscell flinched at the voice. She recognised it immediately.
'June?' Her human partner?!
'Hey baby, did you miss me?'
'What.. where are you?'
'All around, I got into a bit of trouble and one thing led to another. I live on, but in a different form to what you know.'
'You disappeared... I didn't know what happened to you?'
'I'm sorry baby... I didn't mean to... but I came back as soon as I could.'
The gel around the fik moved and undulated around her. Changing her focus from the conversation to sensations, the fik realised she could sense the ship. She had engines at her command, at a whim she could ignite them and begin flying. Which was when she felt June within her too. Two minds as one.
June was the ship, the doctor was merely sharing the mental space with instant and perfect understanding of one another. Thoughts, concepts and discussions were had instantiously.
Including the backlog of memories from.bith about each other. The love, care, the loss of missing one another and of course the last of two years apart. Neither had taken another lover in that time, hoping for the return of the other.
Within the sphere, the fik's body twitched and reacted to the bombardment of emotions and pleasurable feedback of her lover occupying her mind and drowning her in her love.
Outside, in a distant monitoring station, roughly half an hour after Doctor Marscell had entered the ship, it came to life.
Without approval, the station opened up the hanger doors and defences stood down as the craft masterfully turned and began to leave.
"Now what?"
"Not a clue, we had no defence against the foreign system. First point of order, we need a way to disable it should we encounter it again. Imagine if it wasn't here for just one researcher..."

2023.05.28 14:11 Mramazingfuntime Strikes and Acts of Resistance vs Revolutions

Victoria 3 seems to have inherited an oversight from Victoria II in that workers seem to have essentially no recourse in life except to become violent revolutionaries. Disappointed IG groups in Victoria 3 (of any socio-economic group) can do little but become "radical" and join in with intransigent political movements who straightforwardly dive into "revolutions". This misses a defining characteristic of 19th and early 20th century proletarian discontent: strikes, organised non-violent acts of resistance, and workers' cooperatives.
It's a crushing omittance as it leads to rather irritating game loops of desperately avoiding violent revolution (which become inevitable half the time). "Revolutions" themselves are problematic - they only crop up as seccessions with full state apparatus. Naturally, this ruins the economy regardless of a player's actions or intent. As such, revolutions cause the SoL to decline and further radicalise the population. Revolutions cause death loops.
Instead of the above, sufficiently radical workers in poverty should develop unions, cooperatives, and arrange strikes. The owners of industry should respond either by requesting military intervention or by increasing wages. Naturally, these would both be quandaries for serious consideration on the player's part - but it's an accurate and interesting quandary to balance the books and sate your government interests whilst avoiding violent revolt. It gives workers the agency they had historically to affect change without violent revolt, and (in being treated badly) gives them cause for actual violence. After sufficient time for nationwide radicalisation, this would then lead to a properly compelling cause for a full revolutionary movement.
Just my opinion, but I think some measure of account for the above would massively improve the gameplay loop viz. worker's conditions and violent revolt.

I just found out that you can save battery cost by slapping on brightbloom seeds on your constructs instead of attaching headlights. You now practically have a mobile activated brightbloom. It also saves you from having to throw them after every few meters as well.

2023.05.28 14:11 Artsyhistorian3113 Going to live independently for the first time, need advice.

I am shifting to flat with my friends. It is a spacious 2BHK with a balcony and a washing area. I can safely call it luxury for a college student. We are 4 people sharing two rooms, so I will have one roommate, and we know each other from the pg that we will be leaving now. So, we have a fair idea of compatibility with each other as roommates.
I will be living 'on my own' for the first time since the pg provided food, housekeeping, Wi-Fi and such services. Now this is a completely independent flat. I am excited but scared of the sudden burst of responsibilities. I have time to prepare myself since we will be going home for a 1.5 month long summer break, I want to know as much as possible so I don't get overwhelmed with the change. I want to be able to contribute and be a responsible roommate without tiring myself out and/or letting people step on my boundaries. This is extremely important since I am great friends with these people and I know one of them since high school, the last thing I want to do is ruin our friendship and make it living hell for us.
What are some must knows, dos and don'ts of living independently? Can you share some food/cooking and safety hacks?

2023.05.28 14:10 DarkLordOnyx The great transmission service/flush debate/myth (from an ASE master certified transmission rebuilder)

I'm an ASE master certified transmission rebuilder of the last 8 years. I've seen the ins and outs of MANY types of transmissions, and have seen MANY types of causes of failure. I just want to make a few things clear to educate people. Because the lack of knowledge skews the mindset when it comes to transmission flushes/services, and possibly causing problems afterwards.
Term knowledge and understanding is key here. (Flush...) We DO NOT "FLUSH" transmissions. EVER!!! IN ANY CASE, WHATSOEVER! That term can be used for "flushing" your cooling system. The machine at shops that pulsate the coolant to help unclog/unblock and loosen sediments. We will; however, "flush" your "transmission cooler" not a part of the transmission itself. It's just a small radiator in front of your vehicle for transmission fluid cooling, and it's needs cleaned when replacing/rebuilding a transmission. MOST REAL transmission builders WILL NEVER use any kind of extra chemical in your transmission ("flush" "fix in a bottle" "stop leak" etc). Some might use a modifying agent in some cases, typically only recommended by your transmission tech. But anyone reputable WILL NEVER use any kind of chemical in a bottle.
(For the remainder of this post, any "shop" as I call it, I mean a "transmission specialty shop" don't let Pepboys, Midas or any other "joe blow shop" tell you about your transmission. Independent transmission shops are great! Even conglomerates like AAMCO know more than "joe blow fix ya up." Those guys are good for general drivability/brake/suspension repairs. Same goes for engines... Find an engine specific shop when having engine problems.)
Onto services... Some shops will not service transmissions for the myth's liability reasons. Some will "service" transmissions by "EXCHANGING" the fluid and installing a new filter. THAT'S IT! Fluid change, NOT A FLUSH. It's just exchanging the fluid/filter (old and used to new). NO CHEMICALS! NO PULSATING! NO PRESSURES! Anyone who says "flush and transmission" in the same sentence does not know what they're talking about. TALK TO YOUR TRANSMISSION EXPERT! Find one, do your research, go in and ask questions, get to know them a little, see if they'll drive your vehicle and "service your transmission." Ask them if there is anything starting to go wrong with yours? We're not perfect, but we do our best for you. Ask questions about common problems with your transmission. Generally... DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSE. I'm not selling you anything other than the TRUTH here. Find an expert you feel comfortable with and know they're not bullshxttxng you. Some will BS you. Do your research.
Short answer to the "service" debate/myth? IT IS POSSIBLE to experience problems after a "transmission service". I have seen it. It is possible, and even us as experts may not be able to detect it. I've only seen it a very few times in the last 8 years, maybe 5 out of a thousand. So, the slight chance is ALWAYS there.
More often than not, people "do their own service" and don't use the right fluid, don't properly check fluid levels, ADD CHEMICALS, and then they start experiencing problems with their transmission. SO DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! AT ALL!
I've heard many try to blame it on a fluid change/service. HOWEVER, the real cause of failure was lifetime wear, driver habits, and factory weak points that cause issues slowly over time. 80%-90% of the time, the customer has issues with their transmission, decides to "service" the transmission, and experiences MORE problems. The issues were ALREADY there and you were experiencing them when you decided to "see if a service would fix it". Transmission fluid is a good cleaner. It has detergents in it, and now it's cleaned built up grime and cause clearances to open up, causing the problem in GREATER degree now.
Their are cases where an unknown or undetected problem arise after "servicing" a transmission. NOT WIDELY COMMON, but can happen.
Bottom line... MOST transmission problems are OUT OF YOUR CONTROL, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. Most failures are due to design or usage flaws that need to be corrected. I cannot tell you if you should or shouldn't "service" your transmission, unless I drive it, put my scanner on it, and look at some data, and I know what your transmission is or what the specific case is. EACH CASE IS DIFFERENT. His fix won't cure your problem. Her fix won't cure his problem. All these transmissions have completely different sets of problems and fixes. Talk to YOUR transmission expert, and don't drive it like you stole it all the time. "joe blow fix ya up" and "carl.the.cucumber.sized.superman" posting here on reddit probably DON'T have a FULL UNDERSTANDING of TRANSMISSIONS, like we do.
I will answer common questions you have, maybe steer you in the right direction. I try my best to respond to everyone. But I cannot help you fix your car over the internet, and I'm not selling anything, or do any in-person inspections. Thank you for your time and the read. Just trying to be honest in this clutter of crap. Good day!

2023.05.28 14:10 AshSays_LGBT Not wanting to eat

I (16M) have kinda lost my appetite lately and I don’t know why. My mum is realising too. The other night she made me a chicken burger for dinner, but I took one nibble and decided I was done. I couldn’t eat any more. Last night and Friday night, I just ended up not having dinner.
On Friday I was debating about whether to have cereal for dinner or not but then decided I wasn’t hungry. I did eat pudding/dessert that night though which was only a bowl of Eton mess.
Yesterday, I didn’t have breakfast, and when my dad asked me to pick something from a shop to have as just a small snack for breakfast, I just really didn’t want anything. I ended up choosing something just so he would stop asking me to choose. I chose a 20 pack of Jaffa Cakes and by the end of the day I had only eaten 10 of them. The drink I chose had aloe vera pieces in it, but I don’t think that counts as food. Apart from that all I had to eat was a Greggs pizza for lunch and a packet of crisps and a cookie instead of dinner. I didn’t eat anything else.
Usually I can binge eat a lot but lately I just haven’t felt hungry. The pizza I ate yesterday wasn’t even because I was hungry, it was just because I wanted to taste it. I don’t understand what has happened or why my eating habits have changed. Sometimes I have felt too upset to want to eat anything but I don’t feel upset, there is nothing that has upset me lately. So far today I have eaten the second half of the Jaffa Cakes from yesterday and a few peanut m&ms but I’m just not hungry. I keep just eating things for the taste atp.
I’m mainly having drinks as food, but if we go somewhere and they don’t have the drink I want, I will end up just going without. I don’t know what to do, please help. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

2023.05.28 14:09 After-Professor68 SM keeps changing the schedule and time sheets

So my sm keeps changing the schedule in legion I'm talking to the point we basically have to check it 3 times a day to see if our shift is changed or not. And she changes our time sheets to either she changes when we go on break ( i.e I go on my 30 min at 12:12 and come back at 12:42 she changes it to 1:00 -1:30. And she changes when we clock outed to whatever time she has set on the schedule so if we work 5 -15 mins over... nope not on there.. last night I was there till 10:30 I found stuff to try to keep busy while the sm and ask was doing office. The last 5 mins I just leaned against the register waiting for them 10.30 I finally get told I can clock out and go home even tho I still had to throw the trash in the dumpster. This morning I check legion to see if my shift for today will be the same just to see I'm shorted those last 15 mins.

2023.05.28 14:09 brilliantn0rth I can't go on like this.

My husband and I (both 31) haven't been married a full year yet but we've been together for almost 9. We were just out of college when we started dating and we had a few years of long distance before we ended up back in the same area and eventually moved in together.
I am a very emotional and sensitive person, and have been this way my whole life. My husband is the opposite - he is content to operate at a constant level of "fine." I thought for a long time that this was a good balance, but in the last few years I've realized he is emotionally repressed to an extreme degree and simply cannot connect with me on a level that makes me feel valued. Our sex life was never anything incredible, but once we lived together it was like he just stopped caring about that altogether, whereas cohabitation actually made me more excited for it. Over time, the differences in our libido started to wear on me, and I'm now at my wit's end feeling disconnected and lonely. When we got engaged, it was a result of me essentially begging him to take that step with me or leave me, because marriage is important to me. He agreed, but I wish so badly that I had valued myself enough to consider that maybe I shouldn't actually be with someone who wasn't all that excited about marrying me.
I have a therapist and have worked with her to try and better my communication methods so that I can express myself as openly as possible. My husband seems to hear me in the moment, and assured me he loves me and wants this to work, but ultimately any trying he does to be more vulnerable or sexually open with me fall back to his old patterns. I'm starting to worry that this is how it will always be, and that he doesn't have it in him to actually make significant changes for our marriage. We always planned to have kids and would start trying soon, but lately I'm deeply confused about whether or not I truly want to raise children with him.
When I reflect on our years together, there is a startling lack of the kind of passion I always dreamed I'd have, even in the beginning. We've grown up together in a lot of ways, but I feel like I'm beginning to move beyond where he can go. I want to make positive changes for myself that would also benefit our partnership, but I don't feel supported. At this point I feel like we are housemates who occasionally get a little flirty, not like we are true partners in life with a deep bond. I've expressed interest in trying new hobbies together, he's not interested. I try them myself, he doesn't seem to notice or care. Every time I express my loneliness and dissatisfaction, he acts surprised like he hasn't noticed any change in my behavior.
I'm not a perfect wife, of course. I have plenty of things I could improve for the sake of this union, and I try, but I don't have it in me to be the only one trying anymore. I don't know where to go from here.

2023.05.28 14:08 TatGemes2000 Dance of Celestials--Chapter 1

The east wind was frigid during this time of the year. Walking through the streets of Winterport slums was a young man with long silver hair and violet eyes on his handsome yet haggard face. He was about 6 feet tall with a lean and muscular body. He didn't have a lot of fat and looked a bit skinny in his jacket. As always, the man had a listless expression on his face masking any emotions.
“Morning Cal, up to the mines again?” said the portly old street food vendor while setting up his cart.
“Hmm,” replied Cal.
“Always so diligent if everyone else was like you then we wouldn’t need that many enforcers. Be careful out there, I heard the shades are more violent and restless this time of the year. See you tonight,” said the old man.
“Not tonight. I have to monitor the deep mines.”
The old man gave him a worried look. He knew how dangerous it was in the deep mines during the winter. “Your terms have all been fulfilled, Callahan…. You are no longer a slave, remember?”
“Yes.”
“Then why continue this treacherous occupation? I know the money’s well but there are other jobs which won’t kill you just because you stepped on the wrong stone,” he said in frustration.
“I wonder,” Cal said quietly to himself and hurried on his way.
He couldn’t remember the last time he had done something that made him genuinely happy. All his life he had followed orders. First his mother, then his masters, and now his so-called captain who never bats an eye while sending him to the most dangerous sections of the mine. Not like he can blame the captain as he never objects to any of the orders. To him, he must be the model enforcer. Always on time and never asking any questions.
He could never understand himself or his own actions. Maybe living on the edge of life and death is what’s keeping him alive and distracted from all the pain and grief hidden in the deep recesses of his mind. Or maybe he just likes to fight.
Either way, there was something in the mines that kept calling to him. Something that could move his long cold heart. Maybe it could give him a solution to all the nightmares. Or maybe it would be his end. Well, that was also a solution.

He arrived at the mine where he could see his captain handing out orders to the new recruits. All of them had hopeful looks on their faces like they were ready for a new page in their lives. All former mining slaves freed from their previous positions after they awakened their mana. The big smiles on their faces were obvious. They knew that this was their ticket to total freedom and exoneration from their previous crimes. Once they complete the basic service term of guarding the miners against the atrocities that surface from the deep mines for 2 years, their citizenship to the empire would be restored.
‘Naïve idiots,’ thought captain Reginald. ‘If it was so easy then we wouldn’t make former slaves into enforcers when there were so many awakened in the city guards. Only one in ten ever survive past the 1-year mark and out of those survivors, half get corrupted and must be put down before they kill everyone else.’
“Reporting for duty captain,” Cal said in an apathetic voice.
“If it isn’t my best enforcer on call. Why I was just waiting for you to get here. You don’t know how relieved I am to see your face,” replied Reginald with a tone that failed to betray any sort of relief. “I was just teaching these new recruits about the shades and their duties but now that you are here, I was wondering if you had room for a few more enforcers on your patrols?”
“Sir, I am going to the deep mines today they would only get in my way.”
“Come now don’t be rude to your juniors how will they learn anything if they don’t experience the real deal,” Reginald replied with an icy tone daring Cal to object.
Cal looked at the captain’s eyes for a moment and guessed that he must have made a bet with his friends on how many new recruits would survive past the first week again. “As you command sir.”
“Good. Good. Now don’t be that disappointed I am assigning you the three best recruits of this month. I’m sure they can hold their own in a fight.”
Four years of serving under the captain had made him aware that the only way to hide from his attention is to never get under his nose. He had made that mistake once and the captain has still not let go of that resentment to this day. Always finding a way to make his life harder. Not that it mattered to Cal if someone hated him, but it still annoyed him when he had to put up with his whims.
Cal looked at the three new recruits and wondered if the captain was lying to him. One look at them and he could say with certainty that they would not live past the three-day mark in the deep mines. Not like he cared anyways.
“Follow me,” he said before walking past them and going towards the mine shafts. Several of the miners looked at him with awe in their eyes as he made his way to the deep mines. The three recruits following him like lost puppies.
One of the recruits with brown hair and black eyes suddenly spoke up.
“What should we call you sir?”
“Cal,” he replied.
“No, I meant your rank, sir. The captain just said that someone will be here to teach us how to deal with the shades, we don’t know how to refer to you without offending you, sir. Oh, I am Bryan by the way.”
“Nothing you say could ever offend me. And enforcers don’t have ranks. At least not officially,” replied Cal. “The longer you can survive here the more respected you are. Seniority is also determined that way. You are first-years and at your most vulnerable time right now so try not to die.”
“Heh, stop exaggerating I have fought shades with my bare hands before, they aren’t anything special. Now that I have a flamestone sword nothing can beat me here,” said the blue-eyed and black-haired recruit with a grin. “You can call me Phil and that’s Safid,” he pointed at the last recruit with burly build and average looks. “Which gang are you from Cal?”
“I don’t like gangs,” replied Cal.
“You must be some weakling who no one wanted,” Phil said in a mocking tone. “How about you join my gang? I am going to make a new gang here once I get the hang of things with Safid. We are going to turn this place upside down and become the best gang. Ain’t that right Safid?”
“Yes boss,” said Safid with an enthusiastic voice.
Cal looked at Phil like he was watching a clown. Forget a gang these fools won’t last two minutes in front of the senior enforcers before being slaughtered like lambs. He shook his head and didn’t bother talking with the soon-to-be deceased.
Phil didn’t like how he was ignored. “Your loss, don’t come crying to me when I am done taking over this place.”
“What year are you sir?” Bryan asked after a while.
“Fourth,” Cal replied coolly.
Before he could ask anything else, Cal motioned for them to stop. They had arrived at the deep mines. Before them, everything was pitch black with only hints of light coming from the occasional flamestone lamps that were on the mine walls.
“It's so dark here,” said Bryan. “Why don’t they add more lamps? I am sure our jobs would be easier if we had more visibility.”
“They don’t last,” said Cal. “The shades consume all light. Only warded Flamestone lamps can be used here. And even those don’t last long in the deep mines before being consumed.”
“Consumed?”
“The fames inside the stones are consumed by whatever supernatural phenomenon shrouds the deep mines, that’s why we enforcers always have to regularly change the flamestone lamps. Whatever consumes the flame stops it from recharging,” Cal stopped explaining and said, “No more questions now. There could be shades anywhere, have your weapons ready.”
The three complied with his words and pulled out their swords from their sheaths. Cal started surveying his surroundings before making his way deeper. They didn’t have to walk for long before coming across the first shade.
It looked almost indistinguishable from its surroundings. They only recognized it because of its white eyes and darker-than-black fur. It had a humanoid figure with a tail that ended with a sword-like structure and a height of 1.5 meters. Cal stepped forward and slashed his sword a few feet away from the monster before it could react. A long slash-shaped white light jumped out of his sword and went towards the shade. The moment it touched the shade it exploded into a bright white light which illuminated their surroundings and blinded the recruits for a few seconds. When they could see again the shade was gone. In its place was a small glowing stone. Cal picked up the stone and showed it to the recruits.
“Flamestone?” asked Bryan.
“Yes,” replied Cal. “That’s why the shades try their best to go to the upper mines. The flamestone lamps here are warded so they can’t consume the flames themselves and there are no active flamestones in the deep mines, but the upper mines don’t suffer from the same environmental phenomenon as here so the flamestones mined from there are all in their activated state. If they can somehow break past the enforcers in the deep mines, then they can go up and consume as much flamestone as they can before they evolve into shadows.”
While Cal didn’t care if these recruits survived, he never half-assed his job so he would train them to the best of his abilities. Whether they were capable enough to follow his instructions was up to them.
“What’s a shadow?” asked Phil.
“Something you don’t want to meet,” replied Cal. “The dropped flamestones are how we make our living. We can exchange them for our salary from the mine administrator.”
“Was that light mana that you used with your sword?” Bryan asked.
“Yes,” he said.
“So that’s your aspect. Must be handy in this area,” noted Bryan.
“It has its perks,” replied Cal. “But that’s enough babysitting. You are gonna fight the next one.”
“But we can’t release our mana yet,” Bryan said.
“I’m sure you learned how to use that sword in your training camp,” Cal said.
“Yeah, stop being a wimp it's only a shade, boss could handle that with his bare hands,” said Safid who had been quiet for a while now.
“Even if we can’t release mana our internal circulation is enough to considerably increase our strength from ordinary humans,” Phil said with some disdain in his voice.
As they were arguing with each other Cal heard some noise in front of them. “Quiet,” he said. “Get ready it's coming.”
All three took up proper stance and looked ahead. ‘At least they aren’t completely amateurs’ Cal thought as another adolescent shade approach them.
Phil was the first to lunge forward and slash with his sword, but the shade jumped back before he reached it. It growled before swiping its claws towards Phil. Phil reacted quickly and blocked with his sword, but the claws were just a distraction as its tail swung from behind and hit his side. Phil screamed as blood dripped down from his abdomen. It was cut by the sharp tail sword.
‘Tch, not even a few seconds.’ Cal was about to step forward when Bryan stepped in and stabbed his sword directly into the head of the shade while it was distracted with finishing off Phil.
“You alright?” Bryan asked Phil.
“Just a small scratch I will be fine. I would have got him if you didn’t step forward,” replied Phil.
“You were never hit by a shade, were you?” Cal asked.
“No,” Phil replied.
“Well then pray to whatever deity you believe in that you don’t get infected.”
“Aren’t we immune to that after we awaken?” asked Bryan.
“Not weaklings like you no,” Cal replied. “Only once you have fully assimilated your mana onto your blood vessels are you immune to that. You only have internal mana circulating in your veins. You have to slowly assimilate mana in your blood vessels so that you can fight off invaders entering your blood.”
“I won’t die just because of some fucking scratch,” Phil said though with some uncertainty.
“Patch yourself and get ready to move we still haven’t reached our patrol area,” Cal ordered.
They began moving again once Phil took care of his wound. After an hour of walking and three more encounters with shades which Cal took care of due to Phil’s delay, they finally reached their patrol area.
It was a fork in the road. One of the caves lead to a large cavern while the other went deeper into the mines.
“We will set up camp here. That cavern to our left has already been fully mined so there aren’t any flamestones over there. Hence more young shades are born over there. The lower the amount of flamestone, the easier it is for the deep mines to affect the surrounding environment. But the shades aren’t as strong since young shades don’t have any flamestones in them,” Cal explained while placing the flamestones picked from the previous shades around them to provide a better view.
“So, the ones we fought earlier were very strong. That must be why I had a hard time dealing with the first one,” Phil said regaining his previous confidence.
“Just one step above the weakest. The more flamestone they drop the stronger they are,” replied Cal. “We will be guarding this fork for 18 hours before the next shift takes over. Don’t let your guard down just because you will be facing weaker enemies. Shades are very smart and will group up when they are young. We can’t let them go deeper into the mines or towards the surface.”
Bryan raised his hand. Which was weird as he didn’t do that before.
“Yes,” Cal said letting him know that he could ask what he wanted.
“Why can’t we let them go down?”
“Because they will be a nuisance and distraction to the other enforcers up ahead,” Cal replied.
“There are others down there?” asked Phil.
“Where there are flamestones there are miners. Even if they are in their inactive state here. You are lucky I was told to patrol this section of the deep mine today. Young shades can’t infect the awakened. If we went deeper, you would not survive for long,” Cal said.
What followed next for the recruits was an excruciating hurdle of disposing waves of shades for hours upon hours until their bodies started to give in. Cal watched from the sides while taking care of most of the shades. Even still the recruits were having a hard time staying alive. Most of their bodies were covered in scratches. If they were ordinary humans they would have already been infected, maybe even corrupted. Cal was slightly impressed and realized he had underestimated them.
‘Huh. They could at least survive five days rather than three,’ he thought. However, he shouldn’t have tempted fate as it turned out.

2023.05.28 14:07 Avaluvvi Stopped taking cod liver oil my hormonal cystic acne came back should I go back?

In September 2022 I decided to give cod liver oil a try, I took 2,000 mg a day (I don’t know if it’s a lot) for almost 7 months. Funny, I never saw results from fish oil but I did see results from cod liver-derived vitamin A supplements, my skin was the clearest and smoothest has ever been like drastic results I was even getting compliments from everyone but I stopped about 2 months ago cause I know that take vitamin A long term is not good and can be toxic and cumulative. Since I stopped taking it I noticed I’m getting more and more breakouts again when I basically haven’t changed anything since then, the only change I’ve made was stop taking cod liver oil and now I don’t know if come back again

2023.05.28 14:06 miks_woski TLSQ tasks

not sure if something changes on other TLSQs on future years bc i'm on the start of 3rd year but all of them that I had so far were mostly energy tasks, I just do them to get the achievements since you can't really enjoy them
imagine my happiness when I see that one of the tasks is to for example Meal With A Friend because you can progress easily and don't need to wait your energy max again or to spend for it
I was thinking that it would be really great if there were more of tasks where you need to actually do something instead of just randomly tapping on the screen waiting of it to end

2023.05.28 14:05 DarkLordOnyx The great transmission service/flush debate/myth (from an ASE master certified transmission rebuilder)

Good day!

2023.05.28 14:05 bonnieprincetearlach Extreme anxiety and rehoming advice

We were not actively looking for a dog but made the mistake of walking into a pet store. Our soon-to-be puppy played well with our two young children (15 months and 4 years), and we bought her without really discussing having a pet.
I thought I could do this, but the change has been horrible on me. I’m not eating or sleeping, and I’m having panic attacks at least 3-4x a day. My mental health is struggling so much, and I don’t think I can take care of three little ones while my husband is away, which is a lot.
I’m the only one not coping, but I’m also going to be her caretaker for the majority of the time. I want to rehome, but my husband does not. He thinks this is just puppy blues and will pass. I’m worried it’s my breaking point, and I will only get worse with every regression from the human children and the puppy.
Any advice?

2023.05.28 14:04 Formal-Bar-5132 I can’t remember book title!

When I was around 13 I think I read a book from the library and i fell in love with it but i can’t remember the title or find it online anywhere!
My memory of it isn’t very good as it was so long ago now, but on the cover there was a girl walking down a pier (or maybe a bridge?) and the whole cover had dark colours with a blue colour scheme and a rainy vibe and I think you could see waves crash against the pier, one of the words on the cover was fall or fell.
About the story I don’t remember much other than I’m pretty sure there was a teenage girl and a murder (for some reason I remember suicide but I’m not sure) and she tried to solve it, i remember that her town was on the coast by the sea as it was described a lot in the book.
I remember years ago searching it after I read it to see if there was a second part and there was a second book. When I first typed it into Google it showed me “before I fall” by Lauren Oliver so I know the titles are similar but even when I change the words around I still can’t find it.
I know I didn’t give a lot of details however I’m hoping maybe someone read it in the past or knows how to find books better and could share the title with me?
Thank you!

2023.05.28 14:04 Marilue1 AITA in this situation or or just ranting to much?

So for context, its a Saturday night and we have a lot of new staff so there were a lot of people scheduled. I work as a host and a runner so i was just minding my own business helping out where i could until it came time to close.
When it was closing time, some coworkers did do there part in closing but others did not, one thing i did not like is when it came to clearing the garbage, they assumed i was doing nothing so they asked me to do it. But mind you at this point ive already done all that was required of me so i was just putting away some dirty dishes. so it looked like i was standing around.
I was also really tired from working the entire day previously and having to work the entire day the next day (and my coworkers know that) and I usually stay later than everyone to roll utensils and place them on the table aswell since most of the hostess are in high school and get sent home early (which i understand).
So I said to them, you need to change the garbage its your job, im busy at the moment, but then they rudely asked me to do it even though they litterly could of done it themselves since it didnt seem like they were doing anything either.
I did rant to my manager a bit afterwards especially about the new girl since in that conversation she gave me attitude by saying “its so easy, why don’t you do it?” and i replied by saying “if its so easy you can do it to” since in my opinion i think she needs to do it to because its part of her training. (and i had to do it to during my training)
so aita for telling my manager? i dont really like her since she’s doesnt really do anything unless i ask her, but she is new (like two weeks new) so im not sure if i should give her more time.
Thanks for listening to my half rant and half story! and really wanna get some feedback so i dont end up lashing out at her since she is young. (like gr 10)
tdlr: new coworker & friend gives me attitude for not helping them clear the garbage by saying “iTs So eAsY” after i refused to since i was tired and did all my closing duties already

  1. Convenience: A moving service can handle all aspects of your move, from packing and loading your belongings to transporting them to your new home. This saves you time and energy that you can use to focus on other aspects of your move, such as finding a new school or job.
  2. Expertise: Professional movers are experienced in handling delicate and valuable items, such as antiques, artwork, and electronics. They have the right equipment and techniques to ensure that your belongings are packed and transported safely.
  3. Insurance: Reputable moving services offer insurance for your belongings during the move. This provides added protection and peace of mind in case anything is damaged or lost during the move.

  5. Safety: Moving heavy and bulky items can be dangerous if you don’t have the right equipment and training. Professional movers know how to safely lift and move heavy items, reducing the risk of injury.
  6. Flexibility: Moving services offer a range of services, from full-service packing and moving to labor-only services. This allows you to choose the level of assistance that best fits your needs and budget.
