I was always more interested in the macabre and darker parts of the internet. I watched conspiracy videos about all the strange happenings in our world. And there were a lot. Now I am not talking about the basic things like the Bermuda Triangle or the Illuminati. I am talking about the lesser evils, like the Appalachian Mountains.
My sister was always an active person, she loved to go hiking and was a typical flower girl. If you know you know. Me, not so much. I was absolutely content staying at home on my computer researching various ARGs and listening to cryptid sightings online.
So, you'll understand the surprise I felt when my sister asked me to go on a hiking trip with her. It was strange, because she knew I didn't like going out despite my fascination with the world. Now, I won't bore you with the details, but it was barely a week later, and we were on the road. I didn't do a lot of research on our trip. I left that to my sister. However, when she told me we were going to be hiking one of the lesser-known trails I got a bit uneasy.
If you are like me at all you know that leaving the road is a HUGE no no. I know that basic rules of the forest. And the number one rule is: Stay on the Path. My sister has gone hiking many times, alone once or twice but mostly with friends so she knew the rules too. Like, behave quietly and considerately. Take your garbage back home. Avoid fire in a forest.
But she didn't know the rules of the Appalachian Mountains. So, when I mentioned it to her she was surprised and a little skeptical. In fact, she laughed at me the first time I mentioned it to her. I didn't find it funny. My years of research had taught me respect for this forest. The number one rule for this place was: Never look in the trees.
Never ever. Legends say there are eldritch spirits still residing in the woods and I for one, was not about to go and test that theory. My sister had so such self-preservation and looked up into the trees immediately after I told her not to. I will admit, I wanted to strangle her a bit at that point, not because I was afraid of the ancient horror, but more because she had just blatantly ignored me. Like, what the heck? I was trying to be helpful.
Lucky for her, nothing happened and so we set off on our first day in the forest. My sister had planned a weeklong hike for us, and we would be walking about five miles a day. I was not in the fittest shape, so my sister was taking it slower. I was really glad for that.
It was only a few hours into the hike, and I was already deeply regretting my decision to come with her. Screw not being in the fittest shape, I was a soggy donut next to her. She tried to make conversation here and there but eventually picked up from my heaving breaths that talking was not an option. I was close to taking my last breaths, legs like lead when my sister called for camp.
I will admit, I nearly sunk into a puddle of relief right there, if not for the promise of food. Over the next few minutes of hitching our tent up in a small clearing I finally sat down on a nearby log and relaxed. I could breathe normally again for the first time in hours. That's when I felt something was off. The sun was still up, it was about 3pm when we stopped, so in no right should there have been such an absence of sound. The hairs on the back of my neck stood upright. I was reminded of the second rule of the Appalachian Mountains: If the forest falls silent, run.
My sister had no such unease, she had settled beside me and was chatting away even as I glanced around the place, searching for any life other than us in the thunderous silence. Finally, I shushed her. She must have picked something up from the tone of my voice because she fell silent too.
"We have to leave, now." I whispered quietly. That seemed to snap her out of her silence.
"No we just got here!" She snapped. "I'm not going back just because you're afraid of the dark."
We argued for a bit, her voice getting louder and louder and me frantically now, trying to calm her down. Like girl, do you want to get us killed? But she made it clear she wasn't leaving, and I didn't want to leave her out here alone, so I stayed too. In the end, we didn't even wait until dark and retreated to our tent for the night. It took me a long while to fall asleep and I was too afraid to put on the white noise that usually accompanied my sleep. So, I lay there in the drowning silence, until finally, I fell into a fitful rest.
I woke awoke to screaming.

One aspect of my Mahariel-As-Warden headcanon/fanfic-verse is writing in the other origins as if they would be recruitable companions. I have Theron Mahariel (Rogue, Ranger-Duelist, voiced by Jesse Gervais (Suave)) as the Warden and later Warden-Commander. For the rest:

• Elissa Cousland (Warrior, Champion, voiced by Colette Whitaker (Experienced)) - during the Sack of Highever, Bryce died instantly without Duncan to rescue him, and Elissa escaped when Eleanor covered her escape via the larder exit. She, along with her Mabari Hound, Sarim, headed south for Ostagar, but only made it as far as Redcliffe when the dead started rising.

• Kallian Tabris (Rogue, Duelist, voiced by Cree Summer (Violent)) - Kallian and Soris, after killing Vaughan, making a break for it when the guards head for the alienage. Soris falls behind and gets captured, but Kallian doesn't realise it until she's already outside the city. She then heads to the Brecilian Forest where she runs into Zathrian's clan.

• Daylen Amell (Mage, Shapeshifter, voiced by Ken Lally (Cocky)) & Alim Surana (Mage, Arcane Warrior, voiced by Mark Meer (Experienced)) - Daylen Amell chooses to help Jowan due to missing the life he had before coming to the Circle, but Alim Surana, traumatised by his earliest memories (fire, screaming and Templars), goes to Irving, who orders him to go along with the plan. Both end up locked up in the cells beneath the tower, Daylen for aiding Jowan and Alim due to Greagoir not believing that he was acting on Irving's orders. They escape their cells when Uldred's rebellion unleashes demons throughout the tower. The player can either recruit them, kill them, or imprison them after Uldred is dead.

• Duran Aeducan (Warrior, Berserker, voiced by Keith Szarabajka (Smart)) - framed for Trian's murder and sentenced to death by exile, but instead of finding the Grey Wardens, finds Kardol's unit of the Legion of the Dead.

• Natia Brosca (Rogue, Assassin, voiced by Julienne Buescher (Violent)) - Natia Brosca and Leske still fight their way through the Carta base, but just after killing Beraht are immediately recaptured by Jarvia.

I also keep all three Orlesian Wardens:

• Gerod Caron (Warrior, Guardian, voiced by Mark Hildreth's worst French accent) - During the Orlesian occupation of Ferelden, the Caron family were chosen to rule Highever when the Couslands rebelled in support of the Theirin dynasty, and were promptly driven out along with the rest of their countrymen after the rebellion. Gerod, as per family tradition, trained to be a chevalier. During his rite of passage, he was knocked out by a roof tile thrown from above by an elf. His helmet protected him from the worst of the injury, but his fellow chevaliers would never let him hear the end of it, and one day, he snapped and killed one. Facing death for his dishonorable conduct, when Warden-Commander Alisse Fontaine (Clarel's predecessor) offered a chance at redemption by joining the Grey Wardens, Gerod accepted, though it didn't lessen his pride much. In favour of saving Vigil's Keep over Amaranthine, and of siding with The Architect, reasoning that doing so would keep the darkspawn away from Orlais.

• Elyon Andras (Mage, Blood Mage, voiced by Michael Gough) - A city elf who, during his time in the Val Royeaux alienage, discovered blood magic by accident after cutting his hand. Growing bold, he experimented, nudging his human employers into giving him a bit more pay or giving him slightly less dangerous work. But one day, while working at a noble's estate, Elyon tried to steal an expensive bottle of wine, and when he was startled by a human servant, set him on fire. A visiting Grey Warden, Clarel de Chanson, saved his life by invoking the Rite of Conscription, earning her Elyon's gratitude. In favour of saving Amaranthine over Vigil's Keep, and of not siding with The Architect, thinking that it could create something worse than the Blight.

• Nika Kader (Rogue, Shadow, voiced by Kim Mai Guest) - A minor member of the Kaders, a warrior caste family exiled from Orzammar long ago, now part of the Dwarven Merchant's Guild, Nika was engaged to marry a dwarf from a rival family to try and broker peace (and profit). Unfortunately, the drunken groom died on the wedding night, choking on his own vomit. Realising that she would be blamed for his death anyway, Nika snuck out, taking a family heirloom mace in the process. To make ends meet, she ended up becoming a bandit, hiding in the woods and robbing people, until one day she tried to rob an apostate. The frightened mage turned into an abomination and would have killed Nika had a pair of Grey Wardens not been passing by. The wardens, who had been planning to try and reach the apostate before the Templars did, slew the abomination and offered Nika a place in their ranks in exchange for healing. Not as attached to Orzammar (though still looking down on lower castes and casteless) and focused on "getting the job done", she is in favour of saving Vigil's Keep over Amaranthine, and of siding with The Architect.

I also do the same for Inquisition - I have Herah Adaar (Mage, Knight-Enchanter, voiced by Sumalee Montano) as Inquisitor, since, given the backstories given, a mercenary hired for security purposes would have both the means and the motivation to be so close to Divine Justinia when Corphyeus does his thing. As for the others, I have:

• Maxwell Trevelyan (Mage, Rift Mage, voiced by Harry Hadden-Paton) - third son and fourth child of the Bann Trevelyan, shunted off to the Circle as soon as his magic manifested (his eldest brother was discovered to have mental disabilities and packed off to a monastary, and his second brother joined the Templar Order, leaving their sister, Evelyn, as their father's heir). Depending on whether IHW or COTJ is completed, Maxwell is found as a captive in either the Witchwood or the Wending Wood, offering to join the Inquisition when rescued. When Maxwell's father dies and Evelyn's succession rights are challenged by one of their many cousins, the player accompanies Maxwell to the funeral and can encourage them to make amends with their family or break ties entirely.

• Ellana Lavellan (Warrior, Champion, voiced by Alix Wilton Regan) - One of Clan Lavellan's many hunters, she was always fascinated in building traps, first as pranks, then against wildlife and intruders. Sent by her Keeper to spy on the Conclave, but only made it as far as the Storm Coast when news of the Breach reached her. Then she ended up attacked by the Blades of Hessarian, beginning a guerilla war against them. She is upset if the Inquisition recruits the Blades, but offers to join regardless in order to complete her mission. Ellana eventually strikes up a rapport with Solas, and depending on whether or not Clan Lavellan is saved and how good the relationship between her and the player is, she either goes to Wycome to protect her clan or becomes an Agent of Fen'Harel after the events of Trespasser.

• Edric Cadash (Warrior, Reaver, voiced by Jon Curry) - a Carta enforcer and part of the branch based out of Valammar, started to get worried when his fellows began fighting over and being influenced by the red lyrium. An opportunist who sees where the wind is blowing, he formally defects to the Inquisition and helps them put an end to the smuggling operation. With the player's encouragement, he can either go genuinely legit or start up his own criminal operation under the Inquisition's watch.

But this is just my own thoughts, and something I thought might be a fun thread starter. Admittedly, some I wrote as antitheses to other characters (Nika to Sigrun, Gerod to Nathaniel, ). Feel free to share any similar thoughts people might have.

Pepsi on Tuesday unveiled a new logo and visual identity system, the first update of the Pepsi globe logo in 14 years. Pepsi will roll out the new look in North America this fall in time for the brand's 125th anniversary, and globally in 2024, the company said in a statement. As bad as this title seems, I've had people say this in the nicest way possible, but it's implied.
I saw a post by a married man, that since the pandemic, that his social connection had all but disappeared, while her social life continues to thrive.
He mentioned he tried Meetup groups, however, he found that these groups tend to socially awkward types, and he was quickly turned off by it.
When Meetup was first getting started, I would suggest it to some people at work or just some people in general, and some honestly thought that anyone that needs a group like Meetup to make new friends...that there was something wrong with that method of meeting people...like if you can't make friends....um...normally (organically)...that there may be something wrong with you?
Quite judgmental, right?
At least they were tongue in cheek about it when saying that.
That there ARE people out there that can simply make friends no matter where they go, be it a local watering hole, a local street party at a small town location, church, trivia or karaoke night, the gym, etc.
Apparently, to those people, THAT is normal.
But there's a certain amount of cringe I get from people when I mention an RSVP list, a meeting place and time at a local restaurant with a bunch of strangers. Name tags were also a thing too. Cringe even more there. lol

For some background: My parents have 3 kids. Maya (29f), Me (28m) and Sally (26f). The problem is Sally. When she was born she had some form of medical condition which led doctors to believe that she won't survive at all. But my parents never gave up. They spent money and time for her treatment and miracle happened. Since then they have coddled Sally to death. Sally always had to have good things. I mostly got my sister's hand me downs. Which I didn't mind but it sucks that I was the forever neglected middle child. But my sister Maya took most of it. Maya was the oldest and the scapegoat. For some weird reasons Sally was always in competition with Maya and I am sure my parents also pitted them against each other too. Maya was always supposed to behave and never complain. While Sally was a brat. If Maya had a dollhouse, Sally had a bigger dollhouse. If Maya did something good my parents would just say "good job" and go on about their life. But if Sally even won a participation trophy they would basically throw a party. Since then Maya has been walking on eggshells around my parents. She would always be grounded and we cannot even complain that Sally has been bullying us because she is a "special child"
Sally was also awful towards me. She would often abuse me and even steal my stuff and my parents won't do anything. And like I mentioned Sally was always in competition with Maya. If Maya wanted to participate in music, she would too. I remember Maya saying in high school that she has a crush. What does Sally do? Make out with that crush in front of Maya. My parents didn't even save enough for college for either of us but luckily for Maya, she got on scholarship. I had to take out a loan. The last straw for Maya was when she was dating this guy in college. She brought him home when they were on vacation. She caught Sally and him having sex in the basement. It was a shit storm. My parents did berate Sally but after few days they were like "Eh what happened just happened. It will be wrong to separate these love birds." That was it for Maya. She screamed at them that she has endured their abuse for all these years but not anymore. She cut off contact. There was a lot of tension. Some of my uncle an aunt were divided. Sally was just as shameless as she was and went on to date Maya's ex. Maya eventually got over it and met a nice guy and got married. She did invite our parents but not Sally. My parents didn't go but I did. Now she is currently pregnant with her first child. My parents reached out to her and although Maya was skeptical she agreed to reconcile.
So, our family has this big dinner once a year at there place where all the relatives and cousins are invited. Maya came along with her husband, Adam. Sally was also there with her husband (Maya's ex). Throughout the evening I noticed Sally tried to be closer to Adam. But he would just shove her off. When it was time for dinner. My parents made a toast. Then Sally stood up and said that she was so lucky to be here and that she almost died when she was young (barf). She then redirected to Maya and said "Sis I know it must be hard for you because your ex is now my husband but thanks for the blessing. I know it must be hard for you to be here knowing how hard it was for you to compete with me but I applaud your bravery." This was the moment Adam stood up and shouted at Sally. Saying how dare she insult his wife. who the fuck does she think she is. Then the word vomit started. I am just paraphrasing it. "You think you are so special because you were a miracle baby. Guess what I was a miracle baby too but I don't bitch about it like you do. You are such a pathetic woman that the only achievement in your life you have is something that was accidental. what else do you have to show for? Everything you have was basically borrowed from my wife, even your pathetic husband who spent the entire evening hitting every female cousin in this room. You are so annoying even your husband doesn't like you. You know what the truth is? You have nothing and you are nothing. You are so shameless and pathetic that you tried to hit on me. You already got her ex and now you want her husband. I would rather die than be with a woman like you whose personality is worth of a paper bag. You have always been jealous of my wife because you always knew you would never be as amazing as she is. That's you stole from her because that's the only way you could have what she has."
There was more but it was so brutal that Sally was in tears. My parents and relatives were shocked. My parents told Maya "well aren't you going to do anything" Maya said no and left with her husband. Honestly, even my cousins were silent. I knew no one liked Sally. I on the other hand was laughing behind my wine glass. My mom noticed and said I am an asshole for laughing at my sister's misery. It has been over a week when this happened. The video of Adam's rant was circulating on our cousin GC. I still laugh at it. I have been LC with them ever since. But they are getting a lot of shit for Sally. so am I the asshole?

The night before i turned 12 my mom had told me i could grt whateber haircut i wanted and she'd let me. This meant the world to me, i absolutely hated(and still do) having long hair. I had really long thick hair with natural highlights and it went way past my shoulders before i got it cut. Ever since i was little i remember constantly getting told that people paid hundreds to have it, i couldn't give a shit less and still couldn't, so, i got the levi ackerman haircut with a side part- the only time i had short hair before this was when i was a baby and it was growing. I was so excited, i felt so happy and proud because i was finally able to somewhat express myself. I was mainly excited to see what my papa thought/said though, he never told me happy birthday because he couldn't, like, he was too sick and physically hurt too. It hurt, but i understood. The day after my birthday aka the day after my haircut he passed away. I didn't get to talk to him or even say anything for about a week or more prior. That was last year, my birthday is coming up. Im not sure how to feel. I was excited to see what he had to say since he is/was rhe only positive male rolemodel in my life, he was like my father figure since my actaul dad is a peice of shit that should've left a long time ago but sticks around like a fucking leech or parasite. I've always been the bud of the jokes in my family since as long as i could remember, immediate and extended on both sides. They, and my own immediate family, are literally the reason i was only excited for my papa to see it
I remember being told if my papa had a favorite grandkid it was me. He bought me my first real bike, got me my first real fishing pole, taught me how to use those long stick styled knife sharpeners from when he owned a butcher shop, and sooo many other things i can list. You know those boxes of Raspberry filled powder donuts? He'd get those and give me one or two(at dif times obviously) and tell me to keep it a secret since it'd sometimes be before dinner. I remember he used to babysit me when i was little. I remember everything we did together, how on Saturday's he'd cook breakfast and save me a peice of crispy bacon and watch cartoons with me, how on a couple occasions i put face paint on him, another couple occasions i did his hair, and sooo sooo much more. In summer we did yard work, winter we helped put up christmas decorations(he loved to go all out and we accidentally started a little bit of a contest for a few years with the neighbors), and later in the summer we'd have(and still have) beach family reunions for four days at the campsite we've stayed at for years. And for my 10th birthday he got me my own box of Raspberry filled powder donuts, which i had to wrestle out of my brothers' and cousins' hands on a few occasions, all the same day. Now every now and then my uncle and/or gramma get me my own box.
I really miss my papa. All the great memories we had and made. I wish i could tell him about all the new things in my life since he passed since so much has changed. I got a puppy since she was rescued, my other dog is taller then me when she's on back legs, im going to a new school, i have great grades and got into leadership, im starting track, and so many other little things like the recipes I've tried/or made that i know he'd love, I've gotten counseling, and all the really stipid and funny things i do at school. All because he's the only one who'd every actaully tell me he was proud of me, the only one who was actaully excited and happy for and with me. Like yeah other people would get happy and excited too, but at the same time it feels like it's something they expected and it was just a fake. And the only other time i get told someone's proud of me is whenever it's a joking type of mood, all i want is for someone to tell me they're proud of me and it not be fake. My papa made a very specific type of potato salad, I've never had anything like it and nothing better then it. He said his secret was cream cheese and love, along with whatever else he had put in it that you wouldn't typically put in potato salad. I used to get huge servings of it and would always go back for more. My uncle and gramma have tried to remake it on a few occasions, i either mever ate it or ate a small amount. Everyone agreed it was different even though they'd followed the exact recipe. I miss it as stupid as it may sound.
I haven't cried about his passing but as i right this i feel like i might cry, or sneeze, i cant really tell yet they feel the same to me when the come on lol. I know this was a lot and i doubt anyone actaully read it all, but if you did thank you.

We met on a cold spring night when I was feeling lost and life was feeling chaotic. I had absolutely blown my phone up earlier that day, and if you were to know anything about me that’s a pretty regular occurrence and if I had a therapist she’d probably have something to say about it.
Being new to a big city something urged me to go out that night. I’ve never been scared of going out by myself, and something about it always excited me. I remember flipping a coin between the casino down the road, or a bar about an half hour transit away. An hour later I was 40 dollars up and the urge to go to the bar was still there. I cashed out and followed this urge and made my way.
I was pretty sober so I decided to grab something for the lineup as there was always about an hour wait. I ended up hitting it off with a couple guys in line that I never saw again, the way it normally goes. I love meeting new people especially down to earth people with good energy. I’ve always been super sensitive to peoples energy. I guess some people would call me an empath but I’ve always hated being put in a box.
I finally got in to the bar and headed to the dance floor. For some context I’m that dumb idiot that loves getting everyone involved on the dance floor, the one with unapologetic moves, the one that try’s to bring out as much happiness as I can from everyone around me, I’m definitely a floater. I was there for the fun, and the energy. And that’s where I met this girl. The dance floor.
To take a step back and give you some background so you don’t think I’m absolutely crazy. I’ve had my fair share of relationships. Three relationships all lasting roughly 3 years, all ending because I didn’t want to settle for someone that deep down i knew wasn’t the one. All absolute great connections and beautiful people. Just a mix of mismatched love languages and excessive compromising.
I’ve never believed in love at first sight, but this was something different. It was more of a feeling that this time it was different. Her energy was immaculate and like nothing I’ve experienced before. There was something about her that I just knew, I had a feeling. I could feel our connection before hearing her voice. I’ve never met anyone that matched me on the dance floor, that bounced off me and that I didn’t feel like an absolute idiot with. Ive danced with about 100 different girls, but this was different yes it was sexual but at the same time it wasn’t at all.. we both felt it, our energies intertwining.
I remember standing still, smiling, and just looking at her as the blurry bodies moved around us, asking her where she’s been hiding and that’s he’s my type like some sappy love drunk kid would.

We texted for the next couple of days, like middle schoolers under the covers who just got their phones. We hit it off instantly and slowly began to realize we shared more than our love for vodka crans and the dance floor. We both checked off eachothers boxes and started getting uncomfortable with how similar we were.
We decided to to meet up for our first date, both giddy with excitement, nervous cause we hadn’t talked much in person the first night, just danced in each-others energy.
We ended up talking and talking without a hitch. I couldn’t take my eyes off her and I couldn’t keep my smile of my face. I just knew. It felt like I met my match, my mirror.
A few dates followed, and a lot of texting followed. I’ve never met anyone I’ve clicked so fast with. I’ve never connected so fast with anyone before. It was Summer and as they had graduated from high-school, Izumi, Kyoko and gang had went to the beach as once proposed by Remi. But to his rescue came, the one and only, the myth, the woman, the legend – Yuriko Hori! Giving a great speech (lecturing Kyosuke), taking the map from him (taking his phone) and seeing through the mist of traps and codes on the map (trying to understand the weird font Kyosuke uses) she declared -
“We passed the turn to their bakery twice before and we have been walking in the complete opposite direction, darling (you idiot).”
“Yuriko, I can’t wait anymore, I will run towards it, you can come as fast as you want.”, saying Kyosuke took off causing a sonic boom as he ran faster than sound leaving behind all the pleas of Yuriko to stop.
Meanwhile at the Miyamura bakery –
Iori stood behind the counter with a notepad, counting the remaining cakes and going over the day’s transaction once again. Naozumi came back from toilet and asked, “I think you are almost done, I will go and sort everything at the back, I have to set new supplies too….. aaaaah so much work!!”
“Now, now, don’t complain a lot.”, Iori replied.
As she completed her task she someone at the door; customer….. but her mind was bamboozled as she saw a “tall ash colour haired smoking man with a lot of sweat who looks like a mafia” (her interpretation).
Confused, she approached cautiously, she was greeted with a question, “Is this the bakery where Miyamura Izumi works?!”

“Ah I see, he must not be home, we are the reason after all (he is with kyo-chan)”
Stunned Iori stood frozen, only one thought spread in her mind – HE HAS KIDNAPPED IKKKUN!!!!
“Is Izumi’s father here?”, he asked.
“Yes…” OH GOD HE IS GOING TO ASK FOR RANSOME OH GOD PLEASE NO!!!!
She was about to lose all hope but again, came the great savior Yuriko and said, “Dear, you must not scare your daughter’s boyfriend’s parents like this.”
Daughter’s boyfriend’s parents…. Wait does that mean…
Soon the misunderstanding sorted and Iori took them both to her house, telling Naozumi come from behind. She also packed a few cakes.
Back at the Miyamura household’s living room, Kyosuke sat near the center table staring out the large window trying to light a smoke. Iori and Yuriko were chatting and preparing tea and cakes to be brought out. But before Kyosuke can finish lighting his smoke a cold voice from behind stopped him, “No smoking in the house.”
As he looked back he saw a man with brown hair and familiar blue eyes that screamed only one thing – This is Izumi Miyamura’s father!
They both sat face to face at the center table with and awkward silence surrounding them. Kyosuke took the initiative, “So you know, you have a very brave son, he has been able to survive with Kyoko this long, living with her is like living with a dragon, you never know when you get attacked.”
He said it very casually but saw Naozumi thinking very seriously over it. He got scared for a second thinking how he might react but to his surprise he got a, “You know, Iori is not like that, but I was friends with a girl like that in High-school.”
And so the two past high-school popular boys began discussing with great interest, concentration and dedication – the girls they knew back in high-school. Only to be stopped by the intense stares of their wives.
As the great discussion came to an end and they all sat down and started discussing about everyday things.
Yuriko said, “You know these days we don’t get time at all. That day I saw a picture of mine and Kyosuke when we once went to search for clovers with slightly elder kids. Such great days they were.”
Kyosuke laughed, “I remember, that brown-haired guy who was with us got so angry that he couldn’t find any.”
Iori said, “I used to go hunting for clovers all the time. I met Naozumi during one of my trips.”
Yuriko intervened, “You know the elder girl with us had similar hair to yours…”
Iori said, “oh really, you also mentioned brown-hair, Naozumi has brown hair too, such coincidence….”
They all stopped talking for a second.
Naozumi said in a calm voice, “I bet I can beat you all in finding clover if we went head on today.”
Everyone instantly realized the situation and Kyosuke screamed, “You bet! I can beat you anytime!”
They all started laughing.
“Ahh.. they were such good days. Just carelessly enjoying out time.”, said Iori with a smile.
“Yes, and now we have to worry about our kids.”, added Yuriko.
“I know! I didn’t even know Ikkun had a girlfriend, his friend told me.”, said Iori
“They all grow up so fast, I remember when Izumi was still a child, crying every time he fell.”, sighed Naozumi.
“I don’t know about crying but Kyo-chan sure made Sengoku’s kid cry a lot!”, joked Kyosuke.
Everyone laughed and soon with their tea and cakes their talks ended too.
After a pause of silence Naozumi said, “I love how Izumi blushes every time I mention him marrying Kyoko.”
“I know right! Kyo-chan starts blushing too, though she also starts shouting how we are embarrassing him. I am sure Izumi-kun doesn’t do that, he is such a quiet kid.”, said Kyosuke.
“Oh not at all, he runs away all embarrassed too!”, laughed Iori.
Before they could continue further, they heard the door open and up came Izumi and Kyoko back from the beach, hands filled with bags, a slightly tanned skin and with lots of fun memories. They had decided to come here first and give the souvenirs to Miyamura’s parents, and then proceed to her house. But they were surprised to find all the elders together.
“What are you two doing here?”, asked Kyoko surprised.
“Nothing, just meeting Miyamura’s parents. You know, to discuss your marriage.”, teased Kyosuke.
“Our…. Our…. Marriage?!!”, they screamed together.
Izumi stood blushing at the door confused while Kyoko dragged Kyosuke a out who were followed by Yuriko saying farewell to Izumi’s parents.
“I will give them the souvenirs later! I need to deal with Kyosuke!!”, Kyoko screamed as she went away.
The great parental talk ended with laughs and warmth (and some screams and confusion).

So I’ve met this girl.. and I think she’s the one.
We met on a cold spring night when I was feeling lost and life was feeling chaotic. I had absolutely blown my phone up earlier that day, and if you were to know anything about me that’s a pretty regular occurrence and if I had a therapist she’d probably have something to say about it.
Being new to a big city something urged me to go out that night. I’ve never been scared of going out by myself, and something about it always excited me. I remember flipping a coin between the casino down the road, or a bar about an half hour transit away. An hour later I was 40 dollars up and the urge to go to the bar was still there. I cashed out and followed this urge and made my way.
I was pretty sober so I decided to grab something for the lineup as there was always about an hour wait. I ended up hitting it off with a couple guys in line that I never saw again, the way it normally goes. I love meeting new people especially down to earth people with good energy. I’ve always been super sensitive to peoples energy. I guess some people would call me an empath but I’ve always hated being put in a box.
I finally got in to the bar and headed to the dance floor. For some context I’m that dumb idiot that loves getting everyone involved on the dance floor, the one with unapologetic moves, the one that try’s to bring out as much happiness as I can from everyone around me, I’m definitely a floater. I was there for the fun, and the energy. And that’s where I met this girl. The dance floor.
To take a step back and give you some background so you don’t think I’m absolutely crazy. I’ve had my fair share of relationships. Three relationships all lasting roughly 3 years, all ending because I didn’t want to settle for someone that deep down i knew wasn’t the one. All absolute great connections and beautiful people. Just a mix of mismatched love languages and excessive compromising.
I’ve never believed in love at first sight, but this was something different. It was more of a feeling that this time it was different. Her energy was immaculate and like nothing I’ve experienced before. There was something about her that I just knew, I had a feeling. I could feel our connection before hearing her voice. I’ve never met anyone that matched me on the dance floor, that bounced off me and that I didn’t feel like an absolute idiot with. Ive danced with about 100 different girls, but this was different yes it was sexual but at the same time it wasn’t at all.. we both felt it, our energies intertwining.
I remember standing still, smiling, and just looking at her as the blurry bodies moved around us, asking her where she’s been hiding and that’s he’s my type like some sappy love drunk kid would.
I remember asking her if she wanted something to drink, and she said anything but tequila. I laughed cause I hate tequila and would have had a hard time pretending to keep it down. She wanted a vodka cran, one of my go-to’s. And so our similarities would continue.
My dumb ass gave her my number and we went our ways, both knowing this connection meant more than a one night stand. I woke up the morning after and realized I gave the girl my number with no way of messaging her back. I went to Telus the next day and got a new phone in the hopes of tracking her down. After setting my phone up and downloading all the apps , there she was in my dm’s. Thank god.
We texted for the next couple of days, like middle schoolers under the covers who just got their phones. We hit it off instantly and slowly began to realize we shared more than our love for vodka crans and the dance floor. We both checked off eachothers boxes and started getting uncomfortable with how similar we were.
We decided to to meet up for our first date, both giddy with excitement, nervous cause we hadn’t talked much in person the first night, just danced in each-others energy.
We ended up talking and talking without a hitch. I couldn’t take my eyes off her and I couldn’t keep my smile of my face. I just knew. It felt like I met my match, my mirror.
A few dates followed, and a lot of texting followed. I’ve never met anyone I’ve clicked so fast with. I’ve never connected so fast with anyone before. All the little things she does is what I’ve been missing, the kisses on the cheek, the way she tickles my chest when we’re cuddling and she’s the first one see and appreciate all the small things I do. She feels like my missing puzzle piece.
I know I’m crazy and it’s only been four weeks. I’m just crazy about this girl, I know people, I’ve met a lot of people, I’ve been around a lot of energies but I’ve never met anyone like her. And I just know.

There's nothing so wrong with “I Got a Monster” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two-hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “I Got a Monster” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.

Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.

This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Black Panther in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strongly throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second-highest-grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. an improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while Wakanda Forever's 84% is I Got a Monsterr to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Black Panther's 96%.

The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.

I Got a Monster, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Thor: Love and Thunder, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now.

Chapter 14: Yearning For Stars
Rextros the Black Scar was, incredibly, a man noted for his black scar.
It was his symbol as a survivor. And more importantly, as a winner. He may have a scar, but the man he'd last fought had two broken arms and a big enough gap in his front teeth that he now whistled in between speaking.
Over the years, he'd fought with the best of the worst, turning bars inside out and alleys upside down. As a D-rank pugilist, he regularly left a reminder that of all the mean sods to ply their trade in this land, he was the meanest of them all.
And his reward? His own cozy little forest hideout, complete with a gambling table, a drinks bar and semi-loyal goons. It was everything a good little outlaw wanted. Except that he never wanted to be an outlaw in the first place.
He wanted to be a pianist.
“... Damn … !”
Rextros the Black Scar had no wish to lead his own group of bandits. A cold tent in a damp forest? A dirty camp filled with the stench of a dozen guys who didn't bathe, even though there's a river right next to them?
These weren't the dreams of a normal lad growing up on a farm. But he knew that working the land wasn't for him. His hands were made for more than sowing seeds and milking cows.
It was for playing nocturnes beneath the moonlight, his soul reaching out to gently sweep across the keys faster than his fingers did.
However, that dream wasn't to be.
Once he was old enough that he could no longer sneak his way into fancy bars and ply his budding skills on the pianos reserved for the famous, he knew he had to buy his own. It infuriated him that pianos were the playthings of the nobility. He couldn't even walk into a piano workshop before being tossed out. It was a closed circle for the rich and the few. And that lit a fire in his belly.
So what if the fancy lords and ladies couldn't stomach the thought of a mere peasant like him dirtying their favourite pastime? It wasn't them he'd play for.
Rextros the Black Scar would play for the people.
And he'd play a piano he could move with his heart as much as his hands—a St. Liane baby grand in mahogany red, rolled straight out of the Royal St. Liane Workshop in the middle of the royal capital and onto the bustling street outside.
That was the dream.
A dream which had slid further away with each passing day. The crowns he'd earned from his fights were barely worth the silver needed to hire a sister to stitch himself back up afterwards. And all the callouses on his hands were suddenly around his knuckles and not his fingertips.
Then, like a twisted angel summoned from the lowest abyss, that's when she appeared.
“Rextros the Black Scar. What a dreadfully dull name. It's as if you picked it out from a book of villains. Couldn't you have gone for something more original? The Black Etude, perhaps?”
“Hah? You picking a fight? And what's with that get-up? You hard selling for a casino? I don't gamble, so find someone else to fleece.”
“You say that, but isn't every day a gamble with the law to you? Honestly, however are you going to acquire the funds to buy a St. Liane of all things? You couldn't have picked a more expensive thing even if you tried. Greedy much?”
“... Who are you?! How do you know …”
“Hey, hey, hey. Wanna hear about a get rich quick scheme? Super reliable! Everyone's done it! And don't worry, it has nothing to do with gambling. Unless you want to?”
“D-Don't mess with me, woman! Who are you?! Keep away! I'm no fool—”
Rextros clenched his teeth as he recalled the memory.
He was no fool … Except that he was.
“... Damn … it … all! ...”
He crashed his fist down against his small table beneath his tent.
He'd stopped doing that lately. Firstly, he'd gotten used to the idiocy of his underlings. Secondly, it spilled his crowns everywhere and picking them up from the grass was a pain. If he ever wanted to buy that immaculate St. Liane, he'd need every last crown this rotten venture in poor decision making could get him.
So … how did it all go so wrong?
First it was the type of jobs. They'd started easy. Shaking down couriers and breaking into warehouses. Then they got harder. Not because the couriers got wiser or the warehouses tougher.
It was because he'd pieced together what he'd been stealing—and why.
He'd left in the middle of his last job and never looked back. Not because he had no regrets about running. But because he'd feared he'd see the face of that girl in her casino get-up looking right back at him.
The thought sent shivers running down his spine.
But maybe that was just because of the cold.
A forest. A cold, damp forest. This wasn't much better. But it was easier. Merchants used this road. He left the farmers alone. And the trolls. But the merchants? They took extortion as a business expense. And every now and again, a wandering nobleman and his family would come to hunt, forgetting that they were more likely to be found by the death beetles before they found a deer.
Was it kidnapping? Sure. But he was doing them a favour. The ransom reward was his just earnings. And what a reward they always were.
He was close. So close.
One last gig. One last merchant. One last idiot.
He knew this camp wouldn't last. But it didn't need to. He was so close. Then he could abandon this damp lifestyle and these stinking men and play ballades beneath the acoustic roof of the Reitzlake Grand Bridge.
That girl with a huge gob, haughty expression, fine clothes and dark hair without so much as an inkling of dirt on it was his ticket to freedom. That sword alone looked like it could be traded for any piano he wanted. He was even glad the idiots hadn't taken it from her. If they had, he likely would never have seen it.
Now he wished they'd just tried mugging her and suffered the consequences for it. Their dead bodies weren't likely going to reveal where he was.
“B-Boss … what was that? Who was she? Why did we have to give everything over?”
Rextros smashed his fist against the table again. This time, a cloud of dust came up as a crack appeared.
“Shut up! Shut up, all of you! I'm thinking!”
One by one, his underlings looked at each other with differing amounts of confusion and resentment. They didn't understand. They didn't know.
That girl, that ticket to freedom, was a poisoned bait. She'd come with one purpose and one alone. And that was to remind Rextros that so long as he lived, his obligations remained. He knew it. He'd dreamed it.
And now he feared the consequences of his flight.
But what could he do? That girl's message was clear. No matter where he ran, he would never be allowed to wander freely again. Every crown he stole wasn't his to keep. He wanted an out. But how could he? He'd seen too much. Not on purpose. But that didn't matter. He wasn't as blind as the rest.
And that was a problem.
“Boss! What's going on! That was everything! It was our pay, our weapons, you gave it all away! Who was she?!”
A problem like losing the loyalty of his men.
Forget making back his losses. He'd lose his life if they all turned on him. And he knew for a fact that the knives and daggers they carried were still on them, hidden in their boots and their clothes.
As every pair of eyes turned black, Rextros clenched his fist.
There was only one thing he could do. It was … It was dangerous. But it was his only choice. Not just to make it out of here alive. But to escape with it tomorrow, too.
He had to silence that girl.
Before she could reach her mistress, she had to be dealt with.
That way, he'd have time. That casino girl had to only suspect. Otherwise, she'd be here herself. Despite his fears, he knew she wasn't truly omnipotent. More importantly, it'd mean he'd have the money to flee. Even with just the crowns, he'd have enough to survive. More than enough.
He had to deal with that girl … and yet, if she was anything near as strong as that monster ...
No.
He had no choice. Not if he wanted to survive. Even if she matched him as a fighter, he had to deal with her. Then, he'd get out. Lay low. Flee the kingdom. That St. Liane was beyond his reach. But there were others. A Zelronto, perhaps. Lacking in finishing and incomparable with the tonal brilliance of a St. Liane, but bearable nonetheless.
It was time to leave these idiots behind.
But not without using them one last time.
“Shut up! All of you!”
“But Boss—”
“That girl. She was here on behalf of the Adventurer's Guild.”
“What?!”
The looks of rebellion were quickly replaced by panic.
Rextros smiled internally to himself. It was every outlaw's worst nightmare. Those that weren't him, of course.
The Adventurer's Guild weren't like knights or soldiers, who'd make so much noise looking for them that they could pack up and leave without so much as leaving an empty bottle behind.
Adventurers were hunters. Hunters that got paid absolute jack for the work they did. And that meant they did their jobs for reasons other than crowns.
In short, the worst type of people.
“She wanted to cut me a deal. All our gains for a day to leave. Except that won't matter if she's dealt with first. Go get her. Now.”
A few of the men shifted. Most were just confused.
“B-But if she's an adventurer, why didn't we just jump her already?”
“Fool! I was watching the treeline! You guys can't stand sentry even if I peel your eyelids off! I had to make sure there was nobody else! Now you see why I'm the leader and you idiots are not!”
“B-Boss!! Then, then that means ...”
“She's alone. Probably thinks she's stronger than all of us. Some brat that just got promoted to E-rank and thinks they're hot stuff. You know what to do.”
“Yes, Boss!!”
Rextros sighed as the underlings shot off, their hidden daggers being pulled from whatever sorry part of their bodies they hid them in.
It was going to be close. That girl … the sword she had. Only an extremely capable swordswoman would dare wield such a weapon. To be anything less was to invite every rogue within spitting distance to try and steal it from her, alive or dead.
Even so, she was alone. She had to be. The way these people operated demanded it. He had fourteen men under his command. Idiots to the last, but idiots with brawn and no discipline. If they all hurled themselves at her, there was simply no way she would be able to defeat them all.
And if so few made it back that he could claim all the loot for himself, then so be it.
Rextros smiled. Perhaps this wasn't such an unfortunate meeting, after all. He'd been meaning to consider a way to leave his goons in the lurch. If someone could deal with them for him, then all the better.
He simply needed to be ready to make good on his escape.
BRRROOOOOWWMMM.
It was at the exact moment that Rextros the Black Scar thought this that his feet suddenly left the ground.
“Gwaaaahhhhhhhh!”
Letting out a scream, he flailed uselessly at the air as he was suddenly flung against the back of his tent, taking it and also a tree with him as he went hurtling down the mound he'd pitched his makeshift throne on.
An enormous, ear splitting explosion drowned out his scream. Or at least what sounded like an explosion. He couldn't be sure with the entire forest groaning in pain. Leaves, branches and trees bent wildly as though slapped by the force of a thousand hurricanes. And yet Rextros instinctively knew that it could have been worse.
The source of that explosion was further away. And it was not aimed towards him.
If it had, he wouldn't be in a position to feel breathless with shock.
Sweat ran down Rextros's face as he crawled up from the dirt. He was lucky. He'd narrowly missed impacting with the tree that now had its roots torn from the soil. Looking around, all he saw was carnage. Bits of the camp were everywhere. And the forest was groaning even louder than before, as though it now had to right itself after being struck by the hand of a god.
Or perhaps a goddess.
That girl … it couldn't be ...
His entire body shaking, Rextros thought about the idiots he'd sent after her. They'd only just left. They … They were probably okay. Even so, could it possibly be a coincidence that she'd set the entire forest on its knees the moment he'd decided on his treachery?
What … What kind of power was this?
That was not the power of some D-rank punk like him. It was beyond that. The sort of power that only named legends past the point of being human possessed.
Had that girl lived a warrior's life, in solitude, training her swordsmanship on some distant mountaintop to achieve that level of destruction?
Rextros now knew he couldn't stay. Not even if all the copper, silver and gold in the world was made available to him. It was time to flee. Right now. Away from this kingdom, filled with more monsters than anyone as insignificant as him had the right to know.
And then maybe, just maybe.
When enough time had passed—he'd be able to take over the farm, and go back to milking cows and tilling fields.

So I’ve met this girl.. and I think she’s the one.
We met on a cold spring night when I was feeling lost and life was feeling chaotic. I had absolutely blown my phone up earlier that day, and if you were to know anything about me that’s a pretty regular occurrence and if I had a therapist she’d probably have something to say about it.
Being new to a big city something urged me to go out that night. I’ve never been scared of going out by myself, and something about it always excited me. I remember flipping a coin between the casino down the road, or a bar about an half hour transit away. An hour later I was 40 dollars up and the urge to go to the bar was still there. I cashed out and followed this urge and made my way.
I was pretty sober so I decided to grab something for the lineup as there was always about an hour wait. I ended up hitting it off with a couple guys in line that I never saw again, the way it normally goes. I love meeting new people especially down to earth people with good energy. I’ve always been super sensitive to peoples energy. I guess some people would call me an empath but I’ve always hated being put in a box.
I finally got in to the bar and headed to the dance floor. For some context I’m that dumb idiot that loves getting everyone involved on the dance floor, the one with unapologetic moves, the one that try’s to bring out as much happiness as I can from everyone around me, I’m definitely a floater. I was there for the fun, and the energy. And that’s where I met this girl. The dance floor.
To take a step back and give you some background so you don’t think I’m absolutely crazy. I’ve had my fair share of relationships. Three relationships all lasting roughly 3 years, all ending because I didn’t want to settle for someone that deep down i knew wasn’t the one. All absolute great connections and beautiful people. Just a mix of mismatched love languages and excessive compromising.
I’ve never believed in love at first sight, but this was something different. It was more of a feeling that this time it was different. Her energy was immaculate and like nothing I’ve experienced before. There was something about her that I just knew, I had a feeling. I could feel our connection before hearing her voice. I’ve never met anyone that matched me on the dance floor, that bounced off me and that I didn’t feel like an absolute idiot with. Ive danced with about 100 different girls, but this was different yes it was sexual but at the same time it wasn’t at all.. we both felt it, our energies intertwining.
I remember standing still, smiling, and just looking at her as the blurry bodies moved around us, asking her where she’s been hiding and that’s he’s my type like some sappy love drunk kid would.
I remember asking her if she wanted something to drink, and she said anything but tequila. I laughed cause I hate tequila and would have had a hard time pretending to keep it down. She wanted a vodka cran, one of my go-to’s. And so our similarities would continue.
My dumb ass gave her my number and we went our ways, both knowing this connection meant more than a one night stand. I woke up the morning after and realized I gave the girl my number with no way of messaging her back. I went to Telus the next day and got a new phone in the hopes of tracking her down. After setting my phone up and downloading all the apps , there she was in my dm’s. Thank god.
We texted for the next couple of days, like middle schoolers under the covers who just got their phones. We hit it off instantly and slowly began to realize we shared more than our love for vodka crans and the dance floor. We both checked off eachothers boxes and started getting uncomfortable with how similar we were.
We decided to to meet up for our first date, both giddy with excitement, nervous cause we hadn’t talked much in person the first night, just danced in each-others energy.
We ended up talking and talking without a hitch. I couldn’t take my eyes off her and I couldn’t keep my smile of my face. I just knew. It felt like I met my match, my mirror.
A few dates followed, and a lot of texting followed. I’ve never met anyone I’ve clicked so fast with. I’ve never connected so fast with anyone before. All the little things she does is what I’ve been missing, the kisses on the cheek, the way she tickles my chest when we’re cuddling and she’s the first one see and appreciate all the small things I do. She feels like my missing puzzle piece.
I know I’m crazy and it’s only been four weeks. I’m just crazy about this girl, I know people, I’ve met a lot of people, I’ve been around a lot of energies but I’ve never met anyone like her. And I just know.
I guess I just want advice, I hope I’m not alone, and I really hope this is how it’s supposed to be. Is hope it’s supposed to be this easy. Is this what it’s like meeting your soulmate?

First-time poster here. So relieved to find you guys! My head is a mess, any advice would be amazing.
I'm 37, married to a guy, we have a son. Been together 10 years. My marriage has been fine but fundamentally lacking *something* for a while now. Last year I met a woman and it felt like something cracked open inside me and everything made sense. It's impossible (she is gay but she's married and works at son's preschool) but every time I'm around her it's just.... chemistry. I've never sparked with anyone like this in my life. For months I feel like we've been skirting round each other, lighting up when we see each other, trying to keep conversations going as long as pos. It might all be in my head, I don't think so, but you can never really know. I know I need to let this go. But the thought of walking away from that feeling is like, I don't know, like I can't breathe. Those of you who have fallen for impossible catalysts - how did you move on? Where do I go from here?
Part of me wants to leave, knows this is about more than her. But my son is happy, his dad is a good father, he has security. I earn a lot less, have no family and would struggle to offer him that security on my own. And in the back of my mind is, what if I walked and it was a mistake? What if it's just her and I'm just a straight woman with a crush? I feel like I'm going mad.
