LOS ANGELES KITCHEN REMODELING & RENOVATIONS DESIGN IDEAS BY RENOWNED CONTRACTORS

One of the good things that came out of the pandemic is our upgraded cooking skills. Being on lockdown with all our favorite cooking shows and plenty of time to dream about our first post-pandemic meal inspired us to cook. And that’s what we did!!! We became bakers. Did everyone you know learn how to bake sourdough bread this year.
The adventurous among us learned the science behind sauces and the nuances of working with flavors and seasonings. The rest of us got into a routine of cooking fan-favorite comfort foods.
We devoured everything from homemade mac and chess, your mom’s meatloaf, to your favorite ethnic foods. We searched down family recipes with the zeal of academic historians, cooked together on zoom, and planted summer herb gardens to supply us with our favorite herbs and spices.
The kitchen became our own “Grand Central Station, “the true hub of our lives. We cook and share meals with family and friends. We attend zoom school and office meetings and gather for family puzzles or game night. Maybe your favorite time in the kitchen is late at night when you can enjoy some quiet time with a cup of tea or hot cocoa before bed.
If you feel the need to renovate or upgrade your kitchen now that you are using it for more than reheating takeout, you are not alone. With interest rates still favorable, homeowners are reaching out to kitchen remodeling contractors in Los Angeles and researching kitchen remodeling and renovations ideas by renowned contractors. We have researched the top Los Angels Design Ideas from our favorite Kitchen Remodeling Contractors, Los Angeles, for you.

TOP EIGHT KITCHEN REMODELING AND RENOVATIONS IDEAS

CREATE A WORKSPACE BY ADDING A KITCHEN ISLAND

When you watch cooking shows, they provide the contestants with a perfectly set up workspace cooking island. The range top, oven, dishwasher, microwave, sink and counter prep space are all on one island. There is even extra storage space. Adding a workspace/kitchen island to your kitchen will make you fast and efficient. Make sure you have plenty of prep space for chopping, mixing, and kneading. Cleanup will be quick. And keeping your kitchen neat will be a breeze. You will be ready to serve your guests and make it all look easy.

KITCHEN CABINET UPDATE

If your cabinets are in good shape but feel like they need an upgrade or color update, try painting them and replacing the hardware with a more contemporary look. The kitchen remodeling contractors in Los Angeles we consulted suggested that you stick to neutral tones or a bright white for a clean, sophisticated look. Take a trip to your favorite kitchen supply store and hunt out the perfect hardware. Bring a few choices home and see what you fall in love with. The new fresh color with new handles and pulls will feel like a new kitchen. Enjoy adding some unique accents, towels, plants. Candles, etc., and enjoy your kitchen remodel, Santa Monica.

UPGRADE YOUR APPLIANCES

Nothing feels better in a kitchen than new appliances. One of the most popular kitchen updates is installing new energy-efficient appliances, such as a new range, a microwave, an ENERGY STAR® certified refrigerator, and a water-saving dishwasher. Not only will your new appliance update the look of your kitchen, save you money and time, but they are way more fun to use.
With innovative technology features and artificial intelligence, your appliances will interact with each other. The refrigerator will regulate the temperature and keep your food fresher longer. You can have your refrigerator update your grocery list, choose a recipe, and go online to place an order for any missing ingredients. The fridge can also communicate to your smart stove to start preheating for the recipe you choose, just a few of the things to look forward to.

FOCUS ON FABULOUS NEW FLOORING

When redoing your kitchen, focus on some fabulous new flooring. Your kitchen remodeling contractor can guide you through the many choices now available-from hardwoods to tiles and stones, bamboo, and green alternatives. There is now vinyl that looks so much like stone, tile, or wood they can surprise anyone. One of the most important things to remember when creating an open floor plan is to choose the flooring that works throughout the connected rooms. This will give you the expansive feeling that you are looking for.
If you’re looking for a durable, easy-to-clean option and love the traditional appeal of hardwoods, consider a wood-look alternative, such as vinyl. Designer tip- also use on the wall as a rustic backsplash.

DESIGN YOUR OWN COFFEE SHOP /COZY HANGOUT

When you work with your kitchen remodeling contractor in LA, see if you have the space to create a cozy hangout. A corner of the kitchen where you can hang out on your laptop by day and with your family at night for long dinners and endless conversation. Build in a booth, add some benches, and include plenty of comfy pillows and cushions. Sit down with your morning coffee, and you will never want to leave.

FASHION FORWARD WITH A NEW BACKSPLASH

One of the best ways to update your kitchen is to redo the backsplash. As soon as you enter the kitchen, it grabs your attention lets you display your creativity and design talents. When we interviewed the kitchen remodeling contractors in Los Angeles about the lasted design ideas and trends for kitchens, they recommended these hot trends-

  • Mosaic- large tiles and bold patterns create drama.
  • Wallpaper- for endless patterns.
  • Glass Backsplashes- are more popular than ever. Easy to understand why. Sparkly and gorgeous

COUNTERTOPS THAT ROCK

  • Quartz is a non-scratch and very easy to maintain surface
  • Granite will give you the one-of-a-kind custom look. Each slab is unique.
  • Solid surface countertops are an affordable and practical option. Made from nonporous acrylic, solid surface countertops are easy to clean and resist stains and bacteria
  • Laminate offers an easy and low-maintenance option for your busy kitchen. It’s also the most affordable countertop type. You can find endless color choices.
  • Butcher Block counters are a great, environmentally friendly choice for non-prep areas. Use them for dining spaces. These countertops look more and more beautiful with age.

UPDATE YOUR KITCHEN BY USING OPEN SHELVING

Better to Have Cheaper Rig+Seat Instead of Desk/Office Chair if My Wife Doesn't Want the Price of Aluminum Profile Cockpit+NRG Seat+DD?
The title of this post is my TL;DR. :)
As someone with a desk setup who spent the last couple of weeks modding/tweaking my T-LCM brake pedal that is attached to my own DIY wood base platform (I have a Dayton BST-1 under it), and I sit in an office chair with the wheel castors replaced with stationary ones (it sits on a foam mat, and I have a Dayton BST-1 under the chair also), I have REALLY considered getting a cockpit, but they are SO EXPENSIVE (relative, I know, but it is a big investment along with a seat, DD, etc.)!
I want to get the aluminum profile rig, a direct drive wheelbase/wheel, etc., but my wife is not up for those costs at this time, so, I say all of this not to whine or complain, but based on how important people say cockpits are, I don't disagree; hence, my question, as much as people say, "Buy once, cry later," would it be worth getting a cheap Amazon cockpit with a basic Jegs seat? Would that be worth upgrading to in the meantime? I only have a Thrustmaster T-150 wheelbase, Thrustmaster T-LCM pedals (pics are not of my current spring setup), (2) DIY Dayton BST-1 bass shakers, DIY wind sim, and an HP Reverb G2 right now, but once again, I'm trying to avoid upgrading in steps, and just eventually go DD, what are your thoughts? There is also a "lazy" side of me that knows if I upgrade, I will need to reattach the bass shakers, modify my setup a bit, etc., which then takes the little bit of time I have to race and it has to be used to modify stuff. But, I'm also getting annoyed with my office chair moving (not on the ground, but the back lock doesn't stay in place, so it reclines back on heavy pushing) when racing, especially, under heavy braking.
This cockpit: Dardoo G920 Racing Steering Wheel Stand Gaming Simulator Cockpit with Shifter Lever (Cockpit 54, NO Seat) ($165.98 USD)
Jegs seat: JEGS Pro High Back Race Seat Black Polyethylene 13 LBS 17 Degree Back Angle 32.250 in. H x 21 in. W x 20 in. D ($68.98 USD + $14.99 USD Shipping) *I have a lumbar cushion I currently use, not sure if I would need a butt cushion for this chair also, lol. I'm 5'8" 160 lbs)
The same cockpit with their provided chair that only has a bracket on one side, so it moved some per reviews: Dardoo Racing Simulator Cockpit Frame with Real Blackseat Racing Wheel Stand (Cockpit 54 Blacksaet <- their spelling) ($369.99 USD)
And, at this cost, I would be closer to an NRG seat. Thoughts? Worth it? Or just hold onto the desk setup longer until I could go aluminum profile with NRG seat and DD if my wife comes around in the long run?
Also, I could use Amazon Prime points after a few months from now and that would take care of most of the costs.
As I said, I race in VR with an HP Reverb G2, btw. No plans for triples or anything.
Thanks for any advice/help. 🙂

Hello, I've had my chair for just under a year now and the seat cushion has completley bottomed out. Was wondering if the warrant would cover a replacement seat?

2023.03.20 20:35 RawSmackDownL Full scene of Wednesday and Tyler getting together.

What do you think of this text exchange between Tyler and Wednesday?
On Wednesday morning, Tyler woke up to a text sent at 3am from an unknown number.
W: I know what you did last summer.
It didn't take a genius to guess who it was. He saved the new contact in his phone, not even questioning how she got his number.
T: You can't prove anything I know how to cover my tracks. :)
Surprisingly, Wednesday was awake still, or again at 8am, because he immediately received a reply.
W: What does that punctuation signify?
T: It’s a smile, turn it sideways.
W: I thought a benefit of texting was not having to convey facial expressions.
T: Did you get a phone just so you could text me? ;)
W: Don't be ridiculous. I'm using Thing's phone, he needed one in order to stay in touch with Enid.
T: Thing. Your tarantula?
W: Do you know of any other?
T: It sucks not seeing you at the Weathervane.
W: Maybe you'll be unpleasantly surprised. Maybe the Weathervane will be robbed at gunpoint during your shift.
T: Fingers crossed. Doubtful though seeing as we never have more than $40 in the register.
W: Make sure no one takes my booth. I'm going to sleep now.
T: Night, Wednesday. Hope I star in your nightmares.
He sent the message, not really expecting a reply. But a minute later, his phone chimed.
W: You already do.
Wednesday stared at the screen, not quite able to believe the point she had reached. She sat in the most dimly lit study with her laptop. She had sequestered herself there for 18 hours a day since flying home, with the notable exception of the solstice celebration.
Chapter 8 had to be re-written entirely, twice.
Chapter 13 had taken her weeks to finish at the Weathervane.
But now there was just one more left to write. The conclusion. The reveal. The end.
And she had no idea where to begin.
Her mind strayed to the conversation she had with her mother, as they were making the preparations for the celebration of an endless night.
"What type of poison could cause one to feel hot and cold at the same time?" She had asked.
Her mother pursed her lips at the question, thinking. "What do you mean?"
"When you shiver and your palms sweat, in reaction to- to certain visuals, or sounds. What chemical could achieve this?"
"I don't think I've ever heard of such a specific toxin, have you been exposed to something?"
"That is what I am trying to determine, mother. I know of no one else more experienced in this field."
Her mother muttered about various plants, listing symptoms out loud. Occasionally she would ask Wednesday if she had experienced this type of symptom, if she had eaten that type of fruit.
And then, her mother smiled.
"Oh, my cruel and unusual child of woe, your symptoms- it means someone has touched your black heart." Tears sprung in her mother's eyes.
"Mother, do not speak in riddles."
"Apologies, I get carried away when it comes to these things. Who is it that is making you feel this way?"
"I never said it was a person." Morticia arched an eyebrow.
"A barista." Wednesday muttered.
"A barista?"
"It's the word for someone who works in a coffee shop."
"Yes, I am aware. Would you like to tell me more about this barista?"
"...No."
"Very well, little devil. The poison in your veins, the venom that this barista has introduced to your bloodstream is the most all-consuming, deadly substance humanity has ever known."
Oh no, she thought.
"I couldn't be happier for you, Wednesday. I hope we get to meet your barista soon."
She had been plagued with nightmares night after night, but they were not the usual nightmares she enjoyed. Dirty blond curls, soft smiles, and the smell of coffee pervaded her dreams. She had taken to sleeping with the lid of her coffin open, after waking up overheated and feeling much too alive.
Her phone- aka "Thing's" phone- vibrated. Tyler was the only one who had her number. She thought maybe there was something wrong with the piece of technology; it seemed to send jolts of electricity through her heart every time it went off.
T: You are not gonna believe what happened to me the other day. A female from my job asked me on a date. I Obviously, I said no. I think the solstice made him go temporarily insane.
The winter solstice celebration was one of the few gatherings Wednesday did not mind attending. Unlike most parties her family hosted, the winter solstice was subdued. It was a celebration of quiet, of stillness. The long night did not trigger insanity, but rather, lucidity.
W: The effect of the Winter Solstice spirit is to weaken the foundations of the lies we tell ourselves. In the endless night, we may shed our disguises and embrace our inner darkness without fear.
T: That’s…hauntingly beautiful.
T: So, when you said you already dream about me, were you channeling the solstice spirit?
She was reminded of something she read by the psychoanalyst Carl Jung, the rejected student of Freud: "People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious."
Wednesday pressed a button on the screen firmly with the pad of her thumb.
"H-hey Wednesday. I didn't expect you to call. Not that I mind, it's good to hear from you."
She had ruled out possession. Neither was this the effect of some poison she was experiencing. It was unlikely she had succumbed to an airborne virus to which everyone around her was immune.
"I'm requesting that you turn down all other invitations for dates until further notice."
"Wednesday, I-" Tyler started to say something but she wasn't finished.
"I realize I have no right to ask this. You said I do not owe you anything, and that applies in reverse as well. But I want you, and I want you to be available to be mine when I am finished with my novel."
Over the phone, she could hear Tyler's sudden inhale.
"I'm already yours," he said, in a voice just above a whisper.
But that wasn't entirely true, Wednesday thought. She had a chapter plus editing left in her novel, and Tyler could have any number of admirers walking into the Weathervane in that time. It was pure luck that he had gone this long without being tempted by someone else. She just needed to keep writing.
"I'm stuck," she admitted, after a long pause.
"On your book? How much do you have left?"
"It's the last chapter, I don't know how to start it."
Tyler hummed. "I'm not sure how I can help. I skipped at least an entire semester of English classes in high school."
Since he wasn't going to be able to help with her writing, Wednesday thought that would be her cue to hang up. She stayed on the line.
"How do you usually start a new chapter?" He asked.
"I start where the last chapter left off, and continue the story. But that's not working. Viper is…"
"No spoilers, especially if this is at the end." He had a good point.
"Viper is…about to do something she hasn't done before. It is not a simple task, and it could go horribly wrong." Hopefully that doesn't give too much away, she thought.
"So, is she excited? Nervous?"
"She's terrified," Wednesday said, and it felt like a confession.
Tyler cleared his throat. "Well, seemed like from the first book, Viper wasn't the kind to scare easily. But you- but Viper probably has been at least kind of afraid, at some point in her life. So how did you- she- how did Viper handle it before?"
"She thinks danger is intriguing, and she finds violence entertaining."
"That doesn't mean she isn't afraid of anything, just means she could be scared of something, uh, not dangerous or violent."
How did Viper act in the face of fear? This is what Wednesday was stuck on. Some of the other characters cowered, or made stupid mistakes when confronted with their nightmares. That could not be Viper, she wouldn't write it.
And then it struck her, the understanding of her main character. She knew how to start the chapter; she saw everything in the final part of the story clearly outlined in her head.
"This was helpful. I'm hanging up now."
She ended the call, not waiting for Tyler to respond. She had a book to finish writing.
In the morning, Wednesday had texted him saying she was going to be late coming to the Weathervane the next day. He still felt his shoulders sag in disappointment when he got there and she wasn't in her usual booth.
He served four people their coffee and tea in the first three hours of his shift. His mind kept going back to one of the kids who had clearly been upset about something that morning, but declined every offer to talk. It was difficult to keep himself busy, distracted enough to keep from prodding at what he could have done better.
When it was an hour before closing time and Wednesday still hadn't shown up, he thought about texting her. She never actually said how late she was going to be though, he reasoned.
Ten minutes until close, he shot her a quick message -everything ok?- before grabbing a broom to start sweeping the empty shop.
Several minutes passed, and he never heard his phone ping with an answer. But that was okay, because the door chimed and when he called out that they were closed, Wednesday answered.
"Then you should lock your doors. There's some real sick people out there."
"Wasn't sure you were coming in today," he smiled.
"I was finalizing my draft. I've sent it to the publisher for editing."
"Congrats," his lips felt dry all of a sudden, and she took a step closer to him. "So how long-"
"I was told I would receive feedback in 7 to 10 business days. Then, based on how long the first novel took, I will spend another four weeks defending my masterpiece from being shredded. My novel will be published in a few months."
She took another step closer, and his pulse sped up.
"So, you have some free time coming up?"
"Unfortunately, no," she said, causing his heart to stop. "I plan on using that time to participate in the social convention of dating, and spending as much time with you as you will tolerate."
"Oh."
She moved into him. Her head tilted up, he bent his neck to let her press her lips against his.
It was like he'd drunk four shots of espresso and been shot with a tranquilizer. She was so gentle he thought he might shatter from her touch.
He pulled away to look at her for a moment, fighting the urge to pinch himself. He didn't want to wake up if this was a dream. The flat line of her mouth he was used to was gone, replaced by a smile. The sight made him vow silently to get on his knees and beg for her to smile again, later. She had dimples.
Slowly, he cradled her chin, wanting to be as gentle with her as she was with him. They kissed again, and this time he couldn't have told you under oath which of them leaned in first.
For all Wednesday's sharp edges and blunt words, her lips were soft and pliant. He sighed into them, tracing her jawline with his thumb. Tentatively, he brushed his tongue across her lips, and she gasped.
"Woah," she put a few inches of space between them. She began to rock back onto her heels, then forward again onto her toes, swaying back and forth.
"Everything okay?" He asked, and she nodded.
"I'm…it's called stimming, it happens sometimes. When things are a lot," she explained.
He took half a step back, to give her more space. "A lot, in a good way or a bad way?"
"In this case, torturously good." Her smile was back, and his knees were weak.
His stomach gave an audible growl, and he realized it was getting late, and he still needed to close up shop.
"Might be time to call it a night," he said reluctantly. "I'm kind of… well, I'm exhausted."
"You worked ten hours today," Wednesday reminded him. Right, because somehow she knew his schedule, though he'd never told her.
"Yeah. But, this weekend, can I take you out?"
"Depends, do you mean take me out as in assassinate me or take me out on a date?"
"The latter. This time, anyway." He shot her a wink, just because.
"Sunday, you may consume my time."
"Great. I've got a scary movie I've been dying to show you. At my place, since you apparently already know where I live." He was looking forward to seeing her reaction to Legally Blonde.
"I will leave, so you can lock up and go home. But first," she rocked towards him again, and her hand used his chest for support as she kissed him once more. It was just as perfect as the first time.
"Goodnight, Tyler. I hope I star in your nightmares," she said, as she walked out the door.
My sweetest dreams couldn't even compare, he thought, watching her go.
It was too easy, on Sunday, to slip past the front door of Tyler's apartment complex as another person walked out. He told her to call him when she arrived so that he could buzz her in, but where was the fun in that? If he wanted to surprise her with the movie they would be watching, she would repay the favor.
She climbed the staircase, noting for future reference which stairs creaked when she stepped on them, as a force of habit. She was looking for door number 32. The numbering system made her itch. It was not 32 as in the 32nd unit, but 32 as in the 3rd floor, 2nd unit. It should be 3-2. How cheap was the landlord that they couldn't afford a hyphen, she thought to herself.
Her fingers straightened the hem of her dress with every step. Enid had insisted on coming over to "help her decide what to wear," insisting it had some degree of importance. Since she had seen Tyler at least two days a week for almost the entirety of last semester, she was sure at this point that none of her clothes would be new to him. Enid failed to understand this logic, which was a consistent pattern in their friendship.
"Nothing too tight and uncomfortable, since you're watching a movie. But you don't really do tight and uncomfortable, anyway. Oh, maybe you can sneak off and lower the thermostat so you have an excuse to cuddle!"
She reminded Enid that she enjoyed the cold, but the blonde wasn't really paying attention to her, rifling through her closet. Eventually, she picked out one of her black dresses; an A-line style with a white Ganado pattern along the edges of the short sleeves and hem. Wednesday bought it for the same reasons most clothing items made it into her wardrobe; it was black, and the tag didn't make her long for death's sweet embrace.
At last, she stood in front of door 32. She wiped her palms down the front of her dress, and reminded herself that she, like Viper, charged towards fear without hesitation; with eagerness, even. Yes, typically it was to instill fear in others, but the same logic applied here.
She texted Tyler to let him know she had arrived. It pleased her when he opened his door and jumped.
"Woah, hey, I thought you meant you were like, outside. I take it someone let you in?"
"The security here is non-existent."
"Well, I'd invite you in, but we aren't actually going to stay here. One sec-" he left her standing at the door. When he returned, it was with two mixing bowls filled with popcorn.
"Here, hold this. We're going down to the basement."
Wednesday thought that the feeling she got low in her stomach, whenever Tyler smiled at her, might ease up after they'd kissed. She was mistaken; if anything, it got worse.
Tyler explained on the way down that shortly before he moved in, someone had hung themselves in the basement of the building. Since then, none of the tenants went down there, even though there was a laundry room for them to use. Everyone else elected to use a nearby laundromat because they thought the lower level was haunted, which Tyler said was unwarranted, unfortunately.
"I do my laundry down here all the time, no ghosts or poltergeists have bothered to introduce themselves," he explained. "And isn't the point of suicide like, to escape the world of the living? And this guy, I looked it up, he had his will notarized, visited some distant relatives, tied up all his loose ends in the weeks before. Not sure why a spirit would stick around, in that case. In the movies they're always saying ghosts haunt places because of unfinished business. I could see maybe if someone was murdered, that might be the case. But this guy finished his business. Why would he haunt a world he wanted to leave, you know?"
Wednesday let the cadence of Tyler's voice soothe her nerves. However, her apprehension returned swiftly when they got to the bottom of the stairs, when he asked if she would close her eyes for him. He gave her a warning before holding her shoulders to lead her inside - a smart move, as he could have broken a finger, otherwise.
She opened her eyes when he said so, to see string lights wrapped around piping that ran along the low ceiling. A white bed sheet hung from the cinder block wall, with a projector on a stand in front of it. Several blankets and cushions were arranged on the floor.
"I didn't actually ask permission to borrow the projector from the school, but it had been sitting in storage since the beginning of the year," he divulged.
She was disproportionately impressed by his petty theft. She would have thought a boy would at least have to break into a vault, not simply raid a supply closet, to make her feel special.
"So, you think the film you've picked will actually scare me?"
"Oh, I'm pretty confident. Prepare to be horrified." She shivered at his smile. She sat leaning against a cushion, popcorn bowl in her lap, as he started the movie.
Sun's up It's a little after 12 Make breakfast for myself Leave the work for someone else People say They say that it's just a phase They tell me to act my age Well, I am! On this perfect day…
It was indeed a grotesque picture. Wednesday was thoroughly creeped out by the crying in the first few minutes of the film, which was not from physical pain or psychosis. Pink, everywhere. It only got worse from there. This Elle Woods was worse than the antichrist, and terrifyingly intelligent for such a demonic creature.
"That was torture. Thank you."
He turned off the projector. When came back to sit down next to her, his shoulders hunched up, and his smile wavered.
"I'm just gonna come out and say it. I want to call you my girlfriend."
She had done several hours of research in preparation for the experience of dating. Multiple sources said that the timing of this kind of proposal/request should be carefully considered.
"You're making a mistake. There is a three-date rule before you can say that, and everything I've read says there are consequences for not following it."
She couldn't decipher Tyler's expression, his eyebrows looked concerned but he was smiling.
"Wednesday, the only rules we have to follow are the ones we set for ourselves. No one else gets to decide for us how we want to, uh, do this."
She considered this information. "That might explain the inconsistencies I found in my research."
His arm stretched across the propped-up cushion behind her head, hand laying casually beside her shoulder. She thought back to the way he'd held her chin the other night in the Weathervane. The combination of his lips on hers, while his thumb moved down her jaw was an entirely unique sensation that seemed to spread out to the rest of her body. She wanted to repeat the experience.
"So…what do you say?"
If she were to be his girlfriend, then accordingly…"You would be mine? My boyfriend?"
"Naturally." His eyes glinted in the glow of the string lights, she noticed.
"This is acceptable. You should kiss me now."
Tyler leaned forward, and followed her direction exactly.

2023.03.20 18:21 RingMany Haworth Zody VS Realm of Thrones

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to get an ergonomic office chair to replace my old cheap gaming RTX chair. I've narrowed it down to 2 choices:
Haworth Zody office chair (https://store.haworth.com/products/zody-office-chair#) Realm of Thrones Admiral (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Realm-Thrones-Ergonomic-Armrests-Headrest/dp/B0BNJNSRT2?ref_=ast_sto_dp)
In the past, I did have the realm of thrones admiral, but it had a mesh seat, which I found incredibly uncomfortable and my legs and ass would go numb very quickly. So I sent it back. However, the company have released the same model with a cushioned seat instead.
The Haworth zody I can find on Ebay for around £200 and the Realm of Thrones is currently £300. Originally I was going to get the Haworth, but I'm not sure, as the Realm now has the cushion seat plus headrest. Whilst the haworth has a lot of great reviews, I also do think it's a scam how expensive these branded chairs on, reaching over £1000 when it's 95% just plastic.
Which would you all pick between the two? The 2nd hand Zody for £200 or the brand new realm of thrones cushion seat for £300? I'm 6'1, 200lbs / 90kg.

2023.03.20 14:17 Big_Black_Cat Any recommendations for alternatives to the leather Morabo couch?

It's been sold out in Canada for years now. I've been waiting for it to go back in stock to replace our couch and armchair, but I'd rather just buy a different couch at this point. I've been really impressed with how well it's held up over the years. The only reason we're replacing it is because we have cats that have been scratching the back of the armchair. But we'll get couch protectors for our next couch.
The Structube Kinsey is one I've been considering that looks really similar and has a matching armchair. But the back cushions aren't tufted and in photos I've seen, they start sagging a lot over the years probably because of that. Anything else anyone's found that'd make a good alternative? Preferably real leather. Thanks.

2023.03.20 10:47 Astlin My eTrike Worksman PAV3

My eTrike Worksman PAV3

shiny and new
Me: Spastic hemiplegia affecting the left dominant side since '09. M, 6', ~220 lbs.
My ride: Worksman Personal Activity Vehicle PAV3-STR-3CB - STRETCH - LIGHTNING Electric
It's 5 years old.
It has a 500W motor and came with a 36v 9ah SLA battery. It also has a Shimano Nexus 3-speed rear hub with a coaster brake. It had old-style rim brakes on the front.
I went with the optional rear fenders, mirrors, headlight, and armrests. I declined to get the canopy or the trailer. The cheap headlight took D cells and the mirrors didn't take well to me tipping the trike more than once, I've been thrilled with almost everything else about it.
I bolted a cast boot to the pedal through a metal plate. My left shoe is secured to the boot when riding, I would not be able to pedal without something holding my foot securely. The throttle and shifter are on the right. Yes I have to twist them in opposite directions
I have put 1500 miles on it and tipped it many times. Twice it has rolled on top of me, once in the snow, once in the mud. Always wear a helmet. The armrests cushion the falls and add leverage when re-upping the trike.
There is not much flat around here. I've upgraded the battery several times. Currently riding with a 48v 20Ah LiFePO4. I put a disk brake on the front but I could never get it to function properly even after replacing the front fork. I managed to strip the bolt holes and It now has a squeaky mountain rim brake on the front. I'm in desperate need of a local bicycle mechanic. It tops out at 16mph with a fresh battery, I can assist up to about 12mph.
I've had six front flat tires before replacing the front tube with a solid core. I found Slime to be ineffective. I've had no problem with either of the other tires.
This is my primary mode of transportation around town to go to the grocery, and pharmacy, and visit with friends.
My most arduous journey these days is heading to a friend's house for Friday's dinner. It's only 0.6 miles but the elevation change is 50' down and 150' up. I put 5 lbs of leg weights over the front forks for added traction. I had to replace the front tire from where it was bald from spinning. Heaven forbid that I lose inertia going up that hill.

2023.03.20 04:53 GlassPelicanGames The Wizard's Treehouse - A magical, booby trapped treehouse ready to drop into your existing 5e world!

You can find the free formatted PDF HERE, along with my previous releases!

The Wizard's Treehouse

No self-respecting party of adventurers can resist investigating a rope ladder leading up into the unseen forest canopy – especially when that ladder appears out of thin air right in front of them! At the top, the party will find an enchanted treehouse inhabited by a paranoid wizard. And while his delusions may be fanciful, his booby traps are all too real...
The tranquil sounds of the forest around you are abruptly interrupted by a sudden popping sound and a rush of displaced air. The culprit quickly becomes clear: not fifty feet away from you, a rope ladder seems to have materialized. It gently sways in the breeze, disappearing into the canopy above you.
Any character that succeeds on a DC 13 Intelligence (Arcana) check deduces that the rope ladder itself is not large enough to cause such air displacement. Something larger must have appeared to cause such a phenomenon. A character that inspects the rope can see that it is anchored to something high up in the trees, but the leaves of the canopy block its origin from sight. Climbing the rope ladder is simple and does not require an ability check.
The ladder continues up through the branches of the tree until reaching what appears to be a square hole in reality at the top. In fact, it is the underside of a trapdoor that leads up into the first floor of a huge, invisible treehouse perched on the top of the tree. Once the characters enter the treehouse, read or paraphrase the following:
You find yourselves standing in a sizeable, well-furnished living room. Near the far wall, a plush leather couch faces a happily cracking fireplace. An ornate liquor cabinet and phonograph player decorate the right side of the room, while a huge bookshelf holding countless tomes and scrolls takes up a majority of the left wall. One of the shelfs supports a beautifully made sailing ship in a bottle. The floor behind the couch is decorated with a rug made from an owlbear’s pelt, and the walls are adorned with several paintings and a finely carved cuckoo clock. Near the far back corner, a spiral staircase leads up to a second level above.
All in all, the place feels surprisingly homey and inviting. The furniture looks sturdy and comfortable, the decorations aren’t overbearing, the liquor cabinet is well stocked, and the fireplace adds a comfortable warmth and orange glow to the sitting room.

Exploring the Treehouse

The treehouse is steeped in abjuration, evocation, and illusion magic. It’s inhabitant, a paranoid archmage named Arthur Andetarum, has gone to great lengths to make his treehouse home difficult to pin down and dangerous to invade. By design, the first floor of the treehouse appears cozy, inviting, and definitely not disguising a multitude of traps designed to injure and incapacitate anyone who touches anything. The second floor is Arthur’s living quarters, containing his bedroom, personal library, and study.
A Wizard's Home is His Castle. Arthur’s treehouse fortress is his stronghold – his best chance at evading those he believes to be pursuing him. From the outside, the entire structure is invisible. Additionally, strong anti-divination wards have been carved into the frame of the house, protecting anyone inside from the effects of divination magic. While inside the treehouse, creatures can’t be targeted by such magic or perceived through magical scrying sensors. As if that wasn’t enough, the treehouse teleports across the countryside at random intervals, never staying in place for more than a few days. Sometimes, it hardly stays in place for an hour before teleporting to another randomly determined large tree within a several mile radius.

Living Room Traps

If the characters explore the room without taking appropriate precautions, roll a d10 to determine which trap they activate, or choose from the table below:

d10 Result d10 Result
1 Bookshelf 6 Pelt Rug
2 Couch 7 Phonograph
3 Cuckoo Clock 8 Ship in a Bottle
4 Fireplace 9 Staircase
5 Liquor Cabinet 10 Roll again twice
Bookshelf. A grand, dark wooden bookshelf dominates most of the wall. The shelves are full of bound spell scrolls, labeled with spells ranging from 1st to 9th level. Each scroll is, in fact, enchanted with a glyph of warding that is triggered upon opening the scroll. The spell released by the glyph matches the spell written in the scroll.
Couch. A lavish, red leather couch sits in front of a large fireplace. Any creature that sits on the couch must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be sucked into a extra-dimensional space between the couch cushions. Breathing creatures trapped inside the couch can survive up to a number of minutes equal to 5 divided by the number of creatures (minimum 1 minute), after which time they begin to suffocate. The couch is a large object with 50 hit points and an AC of 10. Destroying the couch releases any creatures trapped within its pocket dimension.
Cuckoo Clock. An ornate cuckoo clock with golden hands and a scaly pattern carved into the wooden exterior sits on the wall at eye-level. At the top of the hour, in place of a cuckoo bird, a sculpted golden dragon pops out of the clock’s doors. If any creature is standing within 5 feet of the clock, the small dragon breathes a 5-foot cone of fire onto them. A targeted creature must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 3d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Fireplace. The fireplace is warm and inviting. However, if a creature moves within 5 feet of the fireplace, a swarm of angry magma mephits comes pouring from the flames. The number of magma mephits is equal to 1 + the number of creatures currently on the first floor of the treehouse. If the characters’ average level is 6 or higher, one mephit is replaced with a fire elemental.
Liquor Cabinet. An impressive, glass-doored liquor cabinet with a pair of crystal cups stands against a far wall. The bottles within are easily recognizable as containing extremely rare and valuable spirits. A creature that touches one of the bottles must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or become compelled to begin drinking from the bottle, ignoring the cups. A creature that drinks uninterrupted for 1 minute becomes poisoned. A creature that drinks uninterrupted for 5 minutes succumbs to the potent liquor and falls unconscious.
Pelt Rug. On the floor near the center of the room is a perfectly preserved owlbear pelt rug, with shiny white fur and glossy, yellow marble eyes. If, at any point, exactly one creature is standing on the disguised rug of smothering, it animates and attempts to smother that creature. The thick hide of the owlbear used to craft the rug gives it a bonus to its armor class – the owlbear pelt rug of smothering has an AC of 14 instead of the typical 12.
Ship in a Bottle. A tiny, incredibly detailed sailing ship sits within a large glass bottle. Looking closely, a phantom breeze seems to be ruffling the sails of the ship within its container. If a creature touches the glass bottle the trap is activated. Any creature within 5 feet of the mouth of the bottle must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, or be shrunk down and sucked into the bottle, appearing on the deck of the ship. The bottle is a small magic object with 15 hit points and an AC of 8. Destroying the bottle releases any creatures trapped within it.
Staircase. A spiral staircase leads up to the second floor of the treehouse. Any creature who attempts to climb the staircase without first saying the disarming command word triggers the trap. After reaching the tenth step, the stairs fold in, turning the staircase into a slide. Each creature on the staircase must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or slide down the staircase and out a trap door in the floor, falling 20 feet to the ground below.

Arthur Andetarum

Arthur is the creator and sole resident of the magical treehouse. He resides almost exclusively on the second floor, but is drawn down to the first floor by excessive talking, arguing, or other loud sounds (such as the ruckus caused by destroying a couch, smashing a glass bottle, or fighting a swarm of elementals). Arthur is a very cautious man and will cast invisibility on himself before observing intruders from the top of the staircase. He will quickly try to determine whether his new guests are a threat (more on that later). Even if Arthur decides that the trespassers are not out to get him, he will remain invisible and see if they set off any of his traps. He’s quite proud of them after all, and they could always use more testing.
Military Man.
Before crafting his deadly, esoteric tree home, Arthur was a battlemage for a large nation’s army. His skills in evocation and abjuration magic all stem from his time spent in the military – though he always had a penchant for traps and guerilla warfare. While being a member of an official military force did wonders for funding the developing mage, it was sorely lacking in creative freedom. Arthur’s superiors were much more concerned with finding ways to make bigger and louder explosions, rather than clever way to apply them.
Well before his contract was up, Arthur decided he would be better off alone. Stealing a sizable amount of gold’s worth of components and equipment, he fled his post and went into hiding. He was branded a deserter and has been pursued across the continent for years by secret military police operatives, hell-bent on recovering the stolen military technology and brining Arthur to justice!
The Fugitive.
At least, Arthur believes that he’s being hunted. In reality, he deserted his post some 10 years ago, and after a few weeks of investigation he was labeled a deserter by his superior officer and promptly forgotten about. Nobody is hunting for Arthur or his stolen spell components (his stolen assets are a drop in the bucket for a national military).
While his treetop fortress does a fantastic job of isolating Arthur from the rest of the world, he does get visitors from time to time who stumble upon his treehouse. Arthur is a difficult man to talk to. He has lived in paranoia for a decade and refuses to see reason – he is convinced that any half-competent adventurer is an undercover member of the secret military police out to get him. Nothing short of a successful DC 19 Charisma (Persuasion) check will convince him otherwise.
If the characters can successfully talk him down, Arthur introduces himself as a wanted man, and informs them of the great and terrible risk they take by associating with him. He is certain that assassins lurk in every shadow. Arthur informs the party that his friends call him “Art.” He then insists that they characters call him Arthur. Art’s only friend to speak of is his clockwork owl companion, Copernicus.

Copernicus

If the characters are struggling to calm Arthur down and get him to see reason, they may have a better chance by appealing to Copernicus. The clockwork owl is never far from Arthur, and typically sits on his head or shoulder.
Copernicus is quite sure that nobody is out to get Arthur. However, the avian construct continues to feed into Arthur’s delusions and encourages him to continue to create more intricate traps. The sadistic creature just enjoys watching foolish intruders fall into the various booby traps and fight for their lives. In fact, it was Copernicus who convinced Arthur that it was a good idea to make the rope ladder visible in the hopes of luring in more victims.
If the characters are unable to persuade Arthur that they mean him no harm, Copernicus may intervene. In exchange for a favor from the character’s, the devious little owl can convince Arthur that the characters, who are certainly secret assassins sent by the government, are of more use to him alive as double agents. Copernicus knows exactly how to play into Arthur’s manic conspiracy theories.

Quest Hooks

With Arthur’s paranoia satiated, he will calm down and can be a helpful resource on arcane magic. If they are willing to help him with some small tasks, Arthur declares that they can begin the process of starting to gain his trust. In truth, Arthur is glad to have human company for the first time in a long time.
On the Study of Lunar Habitation.
Arthur is tired of living a life on the lam. He wants to settle down somewhere but is unwilling to put down roots anywhere that his pursuers may be able to find him. Luckily, Arthur had a recent revelation. The answer to his problem was right there in the night sky this whole time; a place where nobody will be able to find him: the moon.
To pull off a teleportation spell that will send his treehouse to the moon, Arthur needs to make some serious preparations. In order to increase the range of his teleportation spell to such a degree, he’ll need very powerful magic amplifiers. Arthur only knows of one such material capable of getting the job done: a form of raw, crystalized mana he calls “weave amber.”
Of course, he can’t risk leaving his treetop safehouse to find the extremely rare reagent, but he has a good idea of how to find it. According to Arthur, weave amber is typically sought after by cults who seek to summon their patrons from other planes of existence. He advises the characters pose as cultists in a nearby city to discover a seller. Or, they could always just scrounge up information on a large cult, invade their stronghold, kill them all, and take their weave amber. Whatever works.
A Favor to Copernicus.
If the characters had to rely on Copernicus to bail them out in the confrontation with Arthur, they may find themselves indebted to the little owl. Luckily, Copernicus’s demands are simple: he wants more people to run the gauntlet of booby traps laid out in the treehouse. True to his neutral alignment, the heartless construct doesn’t care what kind of people the party brings.
The targets can be other adventures, bandits, monsters, even villagers for all Copernicus cares. He just wants more entertainment and more data to improve the treehouse’s defenses. Plus, Copernicus reminds the characters, this will help further gain Art’s trust. They’ll be fulfilling their roles as double agents, luring more “spies” and “bounty hunters” into Copernicus’s-- sorry, Arthur’s lair to be apprehended.
Crash Landing.
The treehouse’s teleportation magic is quite impressive, but not without its flaws. Instead of appearing at the top of a large tree as intended, the treehouse appears in a far less fortuitous place – such as a Roc’s nest or a Chimera’s den at the top of an old tower. The characters may witness the arboreal fortress’s arrival if they are already engaged with the creature. If not, Copernicus locates the party while searching for help and requests their aid in defending the tower from the monsters now attacking it.

2023.03.20 01:27 finch5 My Gesture is worlds apart from my Leap! Strange to think these two are from the same company.

I picked up a gently used Gesture (<2 years) to replace my aging Leap. There was nothing really wrong with the Leap, but it's a V1 and the armrest started cracking and so I got a case of upgradeitis.
The Gesture looks stunning with its fancy white/silver exoskeleton and bright tangerine wraparound fabric. The controls are posh and the "shell not a shell" white fabric around the cushion is very trick; but wow it couldn't feel more different from the Leap.
I find the lumbar support to be extremely aggressive. No part of my back makes contact with the seat back past the lumbar roll. The Gesture puts me in a very upright position, whereas comparatively the leap was like a comfy recliner.
I am surprised just how much this feels like my wife's Amia. The movements feel more "on rails" and rigid, whereas the Leap moved with you. The Amia is very on rails feeling as well. The Leap transformed itself with a few twists of the that live back knob, here it's all fixed and like or leave it.
Did I mention the chair is stunning?
Yeah, the Leap was truly a sit for ten hours a day chair, I'm curious to see how I get on with the Gesture. I will be holding onto my Leap for a while longer.

My puppy ate one of the couch cushions. She basically just ripped up the zipper and pulled the stuffing out. I know I can replace the zipper and we're pretty friendly with our local tailor. Do you folks have any suggestions or links to help me DIY or should I just take it to a local place and let a pro do it? Thanks

2023.03.19 17:59 DelPrive235 Best long lasting outdoor furniture for salty air?

We have a property aboard, near the coast. Our last faux wicker outdoor furniture (plastic but not sure exactly what it was made from) disintegrated because of the weather and the salty air. We need to replace it. What’s the best furniture material to buy to have something longer lasting? We’re preferably not looking to spend a fortune as we’re renting it out at the moment.
