2023.06.06 17:44 sardonictitties boards for short people?
Desired Board Type: Inflatable
Your Height and Weight: 5', 130 lbs & my partner is 5'6, 170lbs
Desired use/uses: cruising/ fitness for now, might get into something else later, in Canada so lakes/ rivers mostly.
Experience level: Beginner
Your budget: not a fixed one, but I saw irocker was $799 which is a bit pricey for me
Country: Canada
What board(s) you current have or have used and what you liked/didn't like about them: Lol... cue the shame. Bought the bodyglove stuff from CostCo on someone's recommendation. Thought i'd look at reviews and realised how stupid i had been. I will be returning the 2 i bought, they were $1000 for both so if something is in that price range it would be great.
I was looking into irocker all around 11' ultra 2.0, but i am wondering if i am looking at something way out of my league. It is also double the price that i paid for the bodyglove so feeling hesitant. Also some people on this sub really don't like irocker's customer service, but has that changed at all?

2023.06.03 05:12 witchygreys Next Cruise to Travel Agent
I have a cruise in October 2023 picked out that we want to go on…. Was planning to do Next Cruise on our June 2023 cruise. If I do Next Cruise on Board, can I transfer that over to Costco Travel and get the Costco rate? (It’s about $400 cheaper on Costco than on RC website or American Discount Cruises)

2023.06.02 23:21 shadybadgal Never been on a cruise before. Wonder if someone would answer some questions for me. Thank you!
First time booking my cruise and I am very excited. It will be my husband and I. We are 55 and we will be going with my Brother and his wife who have never been as well. I have a bunch of questions that I would love answered. Thanks so much in advance.
- Which months would you recommend in the year for Mexico or Caribbean cruise?
- Which cruise line do you suggest? We love food but not drinkers.
- How many days for the first-time cruise goer?
- Which room or floor would you recommend booking on?
- Do you suggest getting there the day before we board?
- Do we need food and drink vouchers? We are vegetarians.
- Which site do you recommend I start with? I was thinking of Costco.
I'm sure I'll have more questions but this is where I think I'll start for now.

2023.06.02 17:53 arubablueshoes Best way to book 3 staterooms for Alaska?
Hey everyone! I’ve been scouring this sub to try and figure out the best way to go about this but I’m overwhelmed and hope some more personalized advice would help. I apologize in advance for the wall of text.
Trying to plan an Alaskan cruise for my 30th birthday for August 2024. It’ll be me(30)as a solo, my mom(52) and step dad(55), and my bro(28) and SIL(26). We’re cool with alcohol but not partying types. We’re big wildlife lovers so that’s the main draw for this destination.
Now here’s where things get interesting. I’ve never cruised before but the others have gone on Carnival and are a part of Carnival’s rewards program so they would qualify for discounts and upgrades there.
Thanks to all the lovely posts on here, Glacier Bay seems to be a must but Carnival doesn’t go there. Looking to stay under $7k for the initial booking of 3 rooms so have been looking at interiors with the plan to spend most of the time out and around the ship. I know the cheapest would be to do 3 in one room and 2 in the other but it’s my birthday and I don’t feel like third wheeling or sleeping on the pullout couch.
I’m also a Costco member and could use that for discounts. My mom is a healthcare worker and could get a discount for Princess through her work. I also feel like we’re in over our heads and wonder if maybe a travel agent would be best? I’ve been trying online to price out the 3 rooms but most sites only let you book rooms 1 at time
NCL has me intrigued because of the single cabins. A couple youtubers I like have really shown how nice Royal is. I don’t know that Carnival’s vibe is what I’m looking for. There’s so many options it’s overwhelming.
So, I’m reaching out to you more experienced cruisers. My main questions are what cruise line would you pick with all this info and what’s the easiest way to book 3 staterooms?

2023.06.01 02:16 MightyBombjacks Koningsdam - July 22-29 (Alaska) - First time cruiseling
Just a couple of questions. 1. Disembarking - will a 1:20pm return flight be late enough to make? Wife says yes, me not too sure. 2. Any excursion recommendations or ones to avoid? We enjoy wildlife and wife wants to do one of the dog musher visits. Should we book thru cruise ship or online? 3. Booked trip thru Costco which came with some credits, 1 complimentary dinner reservation, wifi, and signature drink package. On HAL website I see only the credits and dinner. Should I call someone? Costco or HAL? I tried Costco but the wait times are over 1 hour. 4. Any insider tips? I want to impress my wife...lol. She has been on several cruises.
Thanks in advance!

2023.05.31 19:38 ginaration Help a neurospicy person plan an Italy trip
I'm totally overwhelmed and stuck in analysis paralysis, I would REALLY appreciate help! FWIW, I am neurodivergent and planning trips has never been my forte. I'm turning 50 this year and have never been to Europe. My best friend and I are going to Italy in October - she has been before, and doesn't have much input. I'd like to see Rome and Tuscany at minimum, and we'll have 10 days or so.
There are so many options for booking the trip - just book airfare and hotels individually? Do a package through Costco travel? Go on a group tour? Maybe cruise? I've got a spreadsheet full of options and I don't know what to do anymore. I'm not a cruise person but the simplicity of having it all 'figured out' and not having to schlep luggage around everywhere does appeal. But I want a really authentic Italian experience where we can immerse in local culture, walk to cafes, experience historic sites, and see lots of nature.
Any and all suggestions appreciated. Thank you so much!

2023.05.30 18:46 Significant-Task1453 Planning combination disneyland and carnival cruise
We are in the beginning stages of trying to plan a family vacation (with 2 kids) where we want to go on a cruise AND go to Disneyland. This would be summer 2024 I know it'll be expensive but I'm just wondering if there are any packages I should look in to try to save a tiny bit. Also looking for any tips of how we might structure it and maybe which areas to get hotels in. I think the ship we have chosen is Carnival Panorama. We are Costco members, so maybe book through Costco? I don't think we will be doing a drink package on this cruise, as we will have the kids and probably shouldnt be hammered the whole time. Our initial thoughts for a schedule are something like this:
Fly in to LAX and get hotel Go to universal studios then get hotel Get on 7ish day cruise Get off cruise and head to Disneyland same day. Hotel outside Disneyland but near 3 to 5 days at Disneyland Fly home out of LAX
I definitely think the hotel at the end of the trip would be next to Disneyland, but not sure what the best place to get a hotel for the beginning. Is there anywhere that has shuttles to both Universal and to port?
Any advice?

2023.05.29 22:35 adventurepaul E-commerce Industry News - Week of May 29th, 2023
Hi
ecommerce - I'm Paul and I follow the e-commerce industry pretty closely for my Shopifreaks E-commerce Newsletter. Each week I post a summary recap of this week's top stories, which I cover in depth in the newsletter. .
- STAT OF THE WEEK: 70% of e-commerce shoppers experienced shipping delays without any reason provided by the business for the delay. Faced with that experience, 90% of respondents said they are less likely to buy from a brand again after a poor online shopping experience, while 29% say they are increasingly willing to share a negative review online. – According to Koerber .
- If some of Temu's deals appear too good to be true — it's because they are! An analysis of the company's supply chain costs by WIRED shows that Temu is losing an average of $30 per order as it throws money at trying to break into the American market. Most of Temu's subsidies are in the form of free international shipping, with even a small package costing the company around $14 to ship to the US (although it offers the shipping for free). When adding in the additional product discounts and cash coupons that Temu gives to customers, the average loss per order jumps to $30. .
- The FTC has proposed new rules in the US called “click to cancel” that will impact e-commerce subscriptions — but in a good way for consumers! The rules would require any business selling subscriptions to add a simple cancel mechanism on the same website as the initial transaction, and include the same number of steps. In other words, a “one click subscription” would require a “one click cancelation.” This “click to cancel” rule is part of the FTC's proposed changes to its 1973 Negative Option Rule, which establishes how subscription sellers must communicate offers, ensure consent, manage billing, and simplify cancellation. .
- BigCommerce announced new leadership including the appointment of Daniel Lentz as the company's CFO, Chuck Cassidy as its General Counsel, and Hubert Ban as its Chief Accounting Officer. .
- Google is launching Product Studio, a new tool that allows Shopping merchants to quickly edit and customize their product images for free using generative AI. According to Google's data, product listings with more than one image typically see a 76% increase in impressions and a 32% increase in clicks compared to listings with a single image. With the new generative AI tool, text prompts can be used within Product Studio to quickly make visual adjustments to product images, such as generating new backgrounds for seasonal campaigns. The tool also allows sellers to instantly remove the existing background of an image if they need a blank backdrop, and increase the quality of small or low resolution images. .
- Morning Consult published their annual report of Most Trusted Brands for 2023. The survey ranks roughly 1,500 brands in the US, most of which were dominated by big, well-established names including: #1 Band-Aid, #2 UPS, #3 Amazon, #4 Lysol, #5 Kleenex, #6 Cheerios, #7 Visa, #8 Dove, #9 The Weather Channel, and #10 FedEx .
- Axios, in collaboration with market research firm Harris Poll, also ran a recent survey to determine the Most Reputable Brands in the US. The results were very different from Morning Consult's most trusted brands. Only one company overlapped in the top ten which included: #1 Patagonia, #2 Costco, #3 John Deere, #4 Trader Joe's, #5 Chick-fil-A, #6 Toyota, #7 Samsung, #8 Amazon, #9 USAA, and #10 Apple . Bottom of the list included: #90 Family Dollar, #91 Balenciaga, #92 BP, #93 Bitcoin, #94 TikTok, #95 Spirit Airlines, #96 Meta, #97 Twitter, #98 Fox, #99 FTX, and #100 The Trump Organization .
- The latest data from PYMNTS shows that high earners are feeling the pinch of credit card debt and that their wages aren't keeping up with inflation. This is resulting in higher-end retailers who depend on wealthier households feeling the pinch as well. The data shows a number of correlations including that for bouseholds earning more than $100k annually, 42% were living paycheck-to-paycheck in April 2022. That number has crept up to over 49% this past year. .
- Netflix must have forgotten what love is since 2017 when it made its famous tweet that “Love is sharing a password.” The company has finally launched its ill-awaited crackdown on password sharing in the US and the UK. The new rules state that subscribers are permitted to share their account with members of their own household, which Netflix defines as “you and the people you live with.” Netflix will begin using a variety of tools, such as IP checking, to spot when people are using another household’s account and prevent them from doing so, or give them the option of adding a household for $7.99/month. The company expects cancellations, but optimistically (or idiotically) predicts that those same people will come back again, which will overall lead to more people paying for subscriptions. .
- Laws are changing in Australia to treat BNPL as a credit product. Finally! When was it NOT a form of credit? BNPL should have been recognized as a credit product the day the first BNPL company put up a coming soon landing page. Australia’s Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services Stephen Jones said that a litany of issues reported to the Australia Securities and Investments Commission have added up to “unacceptable levels of unaffordable lending occurring, largely concentrated amongst low-income borrowers.” He added that “BNPL looks like credit, it acts like credit, it carries the risks of credit.” Jones promised draft legislation in the coming months and the introduction of a final bill to the Australian Parliament by the end of the year, which will include the need for BNPL firms to hold Australian Credit Licenses and comply with Resonspible Lending Obligations. .
- Bill Gates said that AI could kill Google Search and Amazon as we know them, and that the technology could radically alter user behaviors, resulting in people never needing to visit a search website again or use certain productivity or shopping tools. Gates remarked that the first company to develop it will have a leg up on competitors. .
- A recent study conducted by Lloyds Banking Group revealed that a UK consumer falls victim to a purchasing scam that originates on Facebook or Instagram every seven minutes, resulting in a cost of over £500k per week. (That man is Michael Scott.) The banking group is now urging Meta and other tech giants to take responsibility and contribute to refunding innocent victims of scams. .
- Analysts at Bernstein project that Reliance Industries is poised to outpace Amazon and Flipkart in the race for India's $150M e-commerce market, citing the conglomerate's robust retail network, mobile network, and home field advantage as its biggest assets. Reliance already operates the country's largest retail chain with over 18k stores and is leveraging its presence to form partnerships with Meta, Shein, and other companies as a strategic advantage against its competitors. .
- Shopify is introducing its POS hardware to the Canadian market. Its mobile selling device, the POS Go, which is built to run Shopify’s POS software, was first rolled out to retailers in the US in 2022. .
- Meta announced that ads in Instagram search results will now be available through the Instagram Marketing API, allowing third-party social-management platforms to offer a new Instagram ad-placement type in their apps. Meta began testing the placement in March and are now opening it up to all brands. .
- Shein is exploring plans to build a factory in Mexico as one of its manufacturing hubs outside China, which could shorten shipping time and cut distribution costs for customers in Latin America and USA. Earlier this month I reported that Shein is creating a hub in Brazil. .
- Amazon opened the first phase of its Metropolitan Park on Monday, its long-awaited second headquarters in Arlington, Virginia that can hold up to 8k employees. However not all Amazon employees are excited about the new office location (or any office location). At least 1,000 office workers are planning a walkout this Wednesday to take a stand against the company's return-to-office mandate. .
- The Vietnamese government is putting pressure on TikTok to police its content and remove videos that fall short of the state’s standards, or risk a ban. Eight government departments are targeting toxic content deemed “to pose a threat to the country’s youth, culture and tradition” — including videos that simply criticize college degrees. .
- eBay unveiled generative AI on its mobile app to help sellers list new items for sale, however the company forgot to inform sellers and didn't label the icon. When clicked, the icon replaced sellers' entire product descriptions with AI generated text, with no way to recover the original description. .
- Boozt AB, a Sweden-based online fashion retailer, blocked 42,000 customers for returning too many items, calling their actions too costly for the company and the environment. The company said that these particular customers represented less than 2% of their 3M customers, but around 25% of the total return volume. .
- Twitter withdrew from an agreement with the EU to cut down misinformation on its social network, which the company joined alongside other tech companies in 2018. Thierry Breton, the EU internal market commissioner, noted that fighting disinformation will be a legal obligation from August 25th, due to the EU's Digital Services Act, so the agreement would become irrelevant. .
- Jeff Bezos is ripped now! The Amazon founder started working with personal trainer, Wes Okerson, who's also trained Tom Cruise and Gerard Butler, and now he's gotten super buff. This is about the least e-commerce specific news you'll ever see me share in this newsletter, but the Jeff Bezos before / after photo is kind of wild! .
- Amazon will close its official Amazon app store in China on July 17, which launched in 2011 as an alternative to the Google Play Store. Amazon noted that its marketplaces and AWS services will remain operational in China. However while it may be leaving China, the Amazon App Store will soon be bringing more Android apps to the Windows ecosystem. The expanded partnership will allow Windows users to access a wider range of Android apps seamlessly. .
- Google updated the badges some merchants display for their product listings in Google Search to say “Top Quality Store” instead of the original “Trusted Store” badge. Google said this is just a name and title change and won't have any impact on search rank or performance. .
- Auctane, an e-commerce shipping specialist that operates brands such as Metapack, ShipStation, Packlink, ShipEngine, Stamps.com, and others, appointed Albert Ko as its new CEO, who previously served as CEO of EWS, which is best known for the Zelle payments network. Current CEO Nathan Jones will join the company's Board of Directors. .
- eCampus.com, a website that sells textbooks and course materials, announced that it would keep offering textbook rentals, even though its retail partner Amazon was exiting the business. The company had been powering the program behind the scenes for Amazon since 2012, and plans to keep it going through its own website. .
- Walmart is partnering with Pawp, a veterinary telehealth provider, to offer Walmart+ subscribers free access to virtual veterinarians for a year, starting this week. Currently Pawp charges $99 for an annual membership. .
- Alibaba Group said that it aims to hire 15,000 people this year, dismissing rumors circulating that the company planned to cut 20% of its staff. They also mentioned that more than 3,000 of those hires would be newly-graduated students. .
- Plus 7 seed rounds, IPOs, and acquisitions of interest including a $12M Series A round by Laced to grow its resale marketplace for authenticated sneakers.
I hope you find this news recap helpful. See you next week!

So I have a family cruise I’m planning for October (2 adults, 2 kids). It will also include flights, hotel, and rental car.
I’m trying to decide between the Venture X and the Amex Green. I can’t get both at the same time because I can’t generate the spend to hit the bonuses on both. One wouldn’t be an issue though. Here is my rationalization:
AMEX Green: I already have the Delta Plat (03/23) and Gold (05/05) so the Green would only be a soft pull. Only issue is I haven’t even had the Gold for a month so I don’t think Amex will be willing to extend me another card. But the Green’s 3x Travel cat includes Cruises and the DUB right now is historically high and includes 20% on Travel up to $200 in the first six months. We’re also booking through Avelo Airlines because they offer $29 direct fares to our destination. The Green would count this toward the Travel cat. Plus, I could easily use the Clear credit to justify the $150 annual fee.
Venture X: I already have the SavorOne so this would complete the C1 “bifecta”. I used the pre-approval tool and I was pre-approved for the Venture line so that at least helps with confidence as a far as getting approved. The $300 travel credit only applies when travel is booked through the C1 portal. This doesn’t include Avelo (obviously) but we could use it on the hotel or rental car.
I’m torn. I know the VX is a better overall card but having the return on cruises (which we do 3 times a year), plus already running our spend mostly through Amex, that seems like the place to stay.

2023.05.26 02:53 YorkvilleWalker Never been on a cruise but thinking about it!
Hello! I’m an older single woman who’s never been on a cruise. I desp need a do-nothing vacation, so I’m considering a cruise. I don’t drink. I don’t like shows. I love to read, gym, movies, eat, swim. Would it be worth it to go on a cruise? Everything I’ve read so far sounds like it’s a party 24/7 and paying for packages that always include drinks…not sure if it’s worth it? Thanks!
Edit: so much outpouring of info & love! Thanks! I would be leaving out of NYC area… is that even doable? And I have to pay extra for being solo…? And stupid question: are meals and gym included? I have some food intolerances but I’m guessing I can pick and choose whatever I want to eat…I was thinking of going via Costco travel or Amex…what’s the best way to go about booking 1 person! Thanks everyone!

2023.05.23 16:04 dc_IV PSA: Costco Travel is no longer able to process future credit card payments on your behalf due to CCV restrictions. Fortunately we found the announcement in an email we thought was product promotions related. Here is what we received.
Dear Costco Traveler,
We hope this message finds you well.
We are contacting you to inform you of a change that will impact how you will make your cruise payment.
Many cruise lines are now requiring a credit card CVV to process payment. Credit card fraud protection requirements prohibit vendors like Costco Travel from sending a stored CVV to another vendor (e.g. the cruise line). Because of these restrictions, Costco Travel will no longer be able to process scheduled payments.
Beginning on May 24, 2023, any existing scheduled payment(s) will be removed from Costco Travel cruise reservations. Please log in to your Costco Travel account to make payment on or before the final due date shown on your invoice.
If you have difficulty processing your payment online, please call 1-866-921-7925 to speak with a Costco Travel reservation agent who can assist you.
Thank you for booking with Costco Travel. Enjoy your cruise vacation!

2023.05.22 04:16 Acceptable_Yellow643 2023 Touring first impressions on a 1,500 mile road trip.
| We are a family of 6 with four kids 9 and under. My 1,500 mile road trip was Midwest driving and consisted of both rural and urban traffic. Pros: 1. The van glides on the interstate. Needed cruise control otherwise I was pushing 80+mph 2. Averaged 24mpg. Primarily used top tier gasoline when available. I may have slightly gone out of the way for Costco gas. 3. I was amazed at how much visibility the headlamps provided. We were in the middle of nowhere driving down county roads and the visibility was great. Not going to lie super stressed about all the deer we encountered. 4. The seats were extremely comfortable and had no issues driving for long distances. 5. Very little road noise which helped the kids sleep. 6. Magic slide seats are a game changer. We took out the middle jump seat which allowed more room and flexibility with kid arrangements. 7. Cabin watch is more useful than I thought. We have littles in rear facing car seats so it helped knowing if they were asleep just drive and don't stop. Cons: 1. ECO mode neuters acceleration so didn't use it in heavy stop and go traffic. 2. RES was cumbersome to operate from up front when starting a movie. It would be nice to see a picture of where you are navigating on the DVD menu. 3. Needs more speakers with the RES. I know the Elite offers more speakers but still a little surprised for the money spent there would be an upgraded speaker system. Overall I'm impressed how the Oddysey made the trek easier for everyone. submitted by Acceptable_Yellow643 to HondaOdyssey [link] [comments] |
2023.05.18 22:39 urmomspubez Questions from a first time Carnival patron (Sailing Carnival Sunrise in 3/24)
Hello all, I’m looking to book a cruise on Carnival Sunrise in March of 2024 for my girlfriend and I (mid 20s). I’m not exactly swimming in money but also have enough laying around where I’d like to treat her to a nice trip, and would like to get the most bang for my buck as I can. A couple questions/looking for advice on a couple of things:
- Would you recommend booking through Carnival’s website or through a third-party vendor? I noticed that Costco Travel has rooms slightly cheaper, however is it as easy/possible to make changes to our reservation or upgrade and buy packages?
- As the trip is still 10 months away, should I book now, or do prices start to go down at a certain point? I know flights can tend to hit their lowest price around 3-4 months out, does this dip happen with cruises as well?
- The cruise has stops in Grand Turk, Princess Cays, and Nassau. I’d like to book one or maybe two excursions between these and just hit the beach / tour around Nassau the other days, any recommendations on your favorite things to do in these places?
- Are there any sites or anywhere to look out for promo codes or deals?
- Is the Cheers package worth it in your opinion? We’re both drinkers (me a little more than her), however the specialty coffee options are somewhat of a selling point for her. I’ve heard the break even point is ~6 drinks, which in theory seemed like it’d easily be met until I took into account being off the boat for the better part of 3 of the 5 days…
- Any travel tips/things that a rookie may not think to pack for the trip?
Any/all help is greatly appreciated. This cruise can’t come soon enough!

2023.05.16 20:19 rorrin Booking agency and stateroom location questions
I was invited by a friend to join her family vacation on the Wonder for an Alaskan cruise in Sept. They already booked 3 staterooms aft on the 2nd deck for the family. I don’t ever get seasick but recently started taking a medication that does cause some nausea on the regular, so I was thinking of booking midship on the 2nd deck to try to limit the odds (also because I’ve read it’s super loud aft).
Question - other than walking a bit to visit each other, is there any reason that it would be preferable to have a stateroom close to the rest of my group?
2nd question - is there any benefit to booking through a TA vs Costco? The Costco cash card seems to be a better deal and would definitely get used. FWIW, I’m not a seasoned cruiser but I am a seasoned traveler in general.

2023.05.15 22:42 aquadragon19 Any recommendations on itinerary below?
| Hi everyone! The fam is coming. To Lake Tahoe next week, and I wanted to start putting together the itinerary. I originally wanted to do more hiking, but looking at all trails it seems like there’s still a lot of snow. I don’t mind, but my parents can’t do anything crazy. This is what I have so far, any thoughts? I’d be happy to swap out tuesdays activities for more hikes if possible. I wanted to do vikingsholm/tallas historical site but saw that might not be open yet either so also can swap out those activities. submitted by aquadragon19 to tahoe [link] [comments] |
