2023.03.22 06:33 Basic_Bichette Will County (Illinois) John Doe identified by coroner as Webster Fisher

In July of 1980, an employee of the Lockport Powerhouse near Joliet, Illinois was searching for driftwood along the Sanitary and Ship Canal when he discovered the decomposed remains of a young white man who had been shot and killed some weeks earlier. Investigators later deduced that the remains had been encased in a wooden box that had probably been dumped near the power plant site, and that the box had burst open shortly before the body was found.
Over the years the coroner and police attempted to identify him via dentals, partial prints recovered from the remains, and early DNA testing without success until the Will County Coroner's Office hired Othram in 2022. He has now been identified via forensic genealogy as Webster Fisher; as of this moment nothing more's been said about who he was, where he lived, or why he was murdered.

2023.03.22 06:14 Basicallyacrow7 The reason I believe in soulmates

So glad I found this group, I’ve been wanting somewhere to share my boyfriend and I’s story, buckle in, it’s a little long
Sometime at the end of January last year, I started playing video games online. Starting with a game called Counter Strike. I had only been playing a short time (probably less than 10 games) when I met a couple of people who invited me to queue with them next game. I agreed, and when we queued up for the next game, they added another player, RJ (not his real name, using for anonymity purposes). RJ asked who the new person was and I said hello. The first words he ever said to me were “Oh great, an e-girl, can’t wait to see how this goes.” We play one game together and I figured that would be the end of that. He had added me to his friends list though.
A few days later, we’re both online, and he invites me to play again, much to my surprise. We play a few games, and actually end up talking a good bit, and add each other on discord. This was February 7th 2022.
We start texting everyday, and gaming every night. This graduates to phone calls, which turn into FaceTimes. Eventually, we exchange numbers and move off the discord app as a means to communicate. We talked, Every. Day. We started getting closer, realized we had a lot in common. Honestly, it was just like we clicked, from the moment we started talking we couldn’t stay away from each other. I had just gotten out of a 4 year relationship and wasn’t looking to get into another. He had be hurt pretty badly by his last girl (won’t go into details) and borderline swore of females. So, there was no reason, after playing a few games, we should’ve become so attached to each other. I think one reason was because I could read him so well, even through text. He was more guarded than I was, but I’ve had my fair share of hurt (more so friends/parents) but I could see through his defense mechanisms, and call him out, and be understanding a patient and loving to him.
But. One issue. I lived in Pennsylvania and he lived in Florida. 900 miles apart.
I am a religious person, as is he. So I started praying on it, basically it consisted of “Lord, I feel like this man is right for me, in my soul he feels right, but I’m going to get hurt with us being so far apart. It’ll never work, please, if this isn’t what it feels like take him from my life because I won’t be able to do it”
That SAME week, my dad (I’m 21, but still live at home currently) stops me in the kitchen and just randomly asks “hey, how would you feel about moving to Florida?” My family has always wanted to move south, but it was always NC, never Florida. (And I hadn’t told them about the boy in Florida who I was falling for yet) Turns out his company had a job opening down there and he was considering taking it. The first thing I do is check how far the town we would move to is from RJ. My shock when it turns out I would be an hour away from him if this move happened.
So we start going through the process and my family decides to make a trip down to Florida to check out some properties. And I ask if we could possibly spend our first night in his city so I could meet with him in person. To my shock, and anyone who knows my parents, they agreed. This is now April. So two months after we started talking, we’re finally going to meet. I’m iffy on if I believe in Angel numbers, but out hotel room that night, after a 14 hours drive, was 222 aka the soulmate number. And at 11am the next day, we go to a nearby mall, and finally meet up in person. We were never awkward, it was comfortable from day one. We actually ended up kissing (more so making out, trying to keep this PG) in a dressing room in one of the stores. Literally had friends asking me what book I’m living in after hearing about it. We spent a blissful 2 hours together and then I had to go. We looked at property’s and then back to PA.
Another two months goes by, this time it’s even harder. I talk one of my girlfriends into a “girls trip” to Florida. But her and everyone knew it was just to see RJ. We go down for four days, I spent as much time with him as I can between his work. We would just sit in a car (he lives where he works, so we couldn’t hang out there) talking, lots and lots of talking and kissing until 3am.
FINALLY. In July of last year, my family made the move to Florida. We have a small farm (horses chickens etc) so it took us 19 hours to move all of them down there. And since we moved, seldom has there been a weekend we didn’t spend together.
And just this last week, RJ and I closed on a house we found together, I won’t be moving in with him for a bit, we have to build a barn and pasture for the horses, but I’m writing this after spending the last 3 days with him getting a few things set up, and cleaning and “playing house” with him. We also got a dog together. We still play games together every night. It just hit me on my way home from there, how crazy it is, a year ago, we were messaging 900 miles apart, after a chance meeting playing a video game (something I never did) falling for each other but thinking we were stupid for even letting ourselves get attached because of the distance to, now we have a house and are planning a wedding and a future. I also think back to his first comment, “can’t wait to see how this goes” and I make myself laugh thinking “well, you buy a house with the e-girl” Our story just makes me giddy, I never would’ve dreamed to have what I have with him, we have grown so much too, I could keep going on a thousand little details that mean something to me, but I don’t want to make this entirely too long. I just wanted people to share this with, if you made it to the end, thank you for reading❤️

2023.03.22 06:08 foxxyfafalove99 What major would have worked for her

My mother is 50yrs old as of August 4th. She is still conventionally attractive (well, I suppose some would say she is average since she is overweight and also honestly bc we’re black) with enough makeup but doesn’t wear makeup around the house anymore like she used to (I’ve noticed that ever since the whole my older brother having a mental break+going to rehab she has steadily begun to take worse care of her appearance. She used to wear makeup around the house or look more presentable. I remember her as having been notably nice looking when I was little.)
My brother is in rehab in part due to her and my father’s negligence. I can admittedly have trouble not resenting her these days - she had an abusive childhood herself (sexual abuse, physical abuse from her dad, was put out of the house w her sister when she was 12) but I feel like even though she seemed v healthy when I was a child she has not made serious steps to overcome it. I’d say she’s manipulative and she tends to mostly stay home and watch I guess conspiracy videos against the vaccine (she is rlly anti vaccine and masks. To an annoying extent.)
She is a “housewife” but I would not say she is a good mother (she mentioned she used to “hit” my brother when he was little.) She is very cynical but can also come off kind of bubbly or joke-y (she does have a sense of humor.)
I would not say she has made good life decisions. She never completed college, started her family at 27 but still ended up being a not-so great parent overall, and chose a man who doesn’t make good money, is unintelligent, is not actually terribly attractive… just a myriad of bad decision making.
She can kind of give off the energy of someone who was once above average, like the kind of confidence that someone who was once above average tends to have.
She does not actually take good care of her health and still talks a fair amount abt her childhood.
When she is angry she develops this very intense energy - starts yelling loudly, it’s like her energy quite literally changes? It almost feels abusive in a way idk how to explain it, it’s just a body language thing. You’ll feel threatened by her. But when she is healthy and especially when I was younger she was nothing like that at all. I’ve been surprised as I’ve grown older by how she really is
Before I was born she was apparently trying to be a rapper and met Tupac. She has old photos of it, she was rapping w her sister. Obviously, nothing came of that.
She is anti-abortion now and complains about “whores” even though she had multiple abortions herself when young, and admitted to me once that she used to be promiscuous.
She has talked abt “indoctrination” before and tells me to “do research.” She is like this bc of how my grandpa raised her I guess, she tends to rant abt how he didn’t raise her to be stupid sometimes (in arguments w my father too.) But I don’t think she’s as smart as she likely believes she is anyway. If she were, I don’t think she’d have ended up w a man who makes below average money and without any kind of way to support herself if she and that man divorced.
Her job other than being a housewife that I remember was being a social worker. I remember a few months ago she was talking abt having been a social worker to my dad w great importance (saying they hired her due to her “speaking skills” or something. You could tell she really believed it.)
She smokes marijuana to “destress.”
I get the impression when she talks abt the city she grew up in that she perceives it or thinks of it as being like the same as it was back then, even though it obviously wouldn’t be now? I feel like she made a huge mistake by raising my brother and I in a primarily white and Asian environment, but she seems to deal w internalized racism so that likely has smthn to do w it
She is colorist… sort of? Like I remember she made a comment (not to the girl’s face of course) abt how my former best friend was “dark” and I have gotten the impression that she has made comments abt my older brother’s skin tone in the past (abt him being dark skinned.) Bur said she thought my cousin who is dark skinned was nice looking (the one on my dad’s said of course) even though I’d argue my former best friend was undoubtedly better looking than my cousin.
She is religious and is annoying abt reading the Bible (always tells me to do it even tho I don’t care)! but still walks around the house swearing like there’s no tomorrow.
She mentioned she used to be “crazy” according to others and would start throwing things when upset. She has no money saved up, and we still live in an apartment complex. I find it fair to suggest that she has made awful life decisions.
She is presently still trying to find online work to save up some money for my birthday (I’ll be turning eighteen.) I am astounded by how bad her life decisions have been.
She actually once filmed a video of me in like summer 2022 bc I asked her to (would have been 49 at the time.) She sounds sort of fake yet simultaneously bubbly. We did take pictures after, she was wearing makeup and looked happy but also sort of nervous (they’re on my profile if you want to get a feel for body language.)
In spite of the fact that she likely has undiagnosed mental health issues she does come off more “normal” between my father and herself.

2023.03.22 04:53 smoltair I want to memorialize my cat as a webkinz

I lost my tuxedo cat Jazz back in November of 2022. I want to get a signature tuxedo cat to adopt in the game and name after him, but I have no idea where to start looking or how to make sure I'm paying a fair price for one if I find one. I've already had a weird experience on ebay trying to buy a different webkinz that they had already sold on another platform so I don't want to just jump into buying the first one I find. I figured here would be the best place to ask for some help! Does anyone know of a reliable seller who might have the signature tuxedo cat?

2023.03.22 04:51 PrikyPine [REQUEST][PS5] Elden Ring 5th Attempt

Elden Ring is such a such a good of a game, even the game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki didnt expect this amount of sales. This behemoth crushed Horizon Forbidden west(which is in itself a new discussion) in its path to glory and became game of the year. The soul crushing difficulty of this game (pun intended) has given the gaming community what it needed the most, which is a breath of fresh air. Gaming is not only a entertainment industry but also a money-making cow that has been milked so much as that the things that a average gamer is fed has now become stale. But Elden ring arrived. Shaked up the formula a bit and BAM! a masterpiece forged. The involvement of George R. R. Martin invited new audience to the soulsborne series, it is a niche category after all. People were hyped(me included), it hit a staggeringly high number of players on steam in a single day.
During that time, I had a choice to make, between horizon and elden ring. Horizon wasnt a bad game at all. I enjoyed it, but something was missing. Horizon was a fairly short game which to me personally isnt really preferable, long experiences are the key to me. Ive waited for this moment for a very long time. I kept away from all the story spoiling elements on social media. The gameplay was so tempting to watch but only my willpower kept ahold of me. Even after a year I keep away from spoilers hoping that i would be able to enjoy and try to make it a firsthand experience.
Now about the game a bit(learned it through reading the spoiler free review articles)-
Elden Ring is an action adventure rpg developed by FromSoftware, published by Bandai Namco. It has a third person perspective camera angle. The games main focus is on exploration and combat, testing the patience of players, making them miserable, etc. We start out the game by choosing our class and creating a character which we will use for the rest of the playthrough. Aside from the direct combat, Miyazaki also sprinkles in some stealth mechanics to avoid action all together.
Multiplayer Pvp is also a thing here to play with your friends or challenge random people to make them even more miserable.
The Story-
So, you as a maidenless tarnished roam the lands between, leveling up and exploring so as to repair the shattered elden ring and bring harmony to the world. On this journey you are given a trusty steed as your companion on these harsh journeys.
The game has won a lot of awards and accolades in its first year of release, along with the title of game of the year of 2022. Scoring way past 9s and 10s on the ratings, it has gone to become one of the best games ever made. And now with the dlc announcement, the hype is stirring up again as you mightve noticed.
It made such a big impact to the people that they are still talking about it, even a year later.
Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.

2023.03.22 04:40 Soggy-Today9470 Anybody in Orange County (SoCal)?

I just joined this sub and I see people talking about price falling for the first time in February, etc.
I have been looking in Orange County, CA and the price are going up it seems, and by a lot.
I just saw this week, houses in Irvine with 1800ish sqft listed above $1.3M going in contingency. This reminds me of my PTSD of winter-early 2022.
I don’t see things slowing down here.

2023.03.22 04:09 payrollexpert Understanding Hong Kong’s Continuous Professional Training (CPT)

Hong Kong is one of the world’s most important financial centers and its financial services industry remains one of its key pillars, contributing to around 23.4% of its GDP. In 2022, Hong Kong was ranked 4th in the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) released by Z/Yen Group and the China Development Institute.
The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong is the independent statutory body charged with regulating Hong Kong’s securities and futures markets. The SFC is also accountable for updating the Competence Guidelines and Continuing Professional Training (CPT) Guidelines, which have been in place for over 18 years.
With one of the world’s most active and liquid securities markets, Hong Kong’s financial industry is one that is fast-changing and highly competitive. Financial institutions that are unable to keep up with the ever-changing financial regulations may be exposed to unnecessary risks, resulting in loss of trust from customers and investors. The same concept applies to professionals working in financial institutions as well as those looking to enter this industry.
One way to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements is to rely on the organisation’s internal compliance as well as external auditing companies to conduct audit checks. At the same time, organisations can ensure that its own employees comply with financial regulations through CPT.

Objectives of CPT

Based on the definition of CPT outlined by the SFC, the key requirements of the CPT is to ensure that an individual engaging in regulated activities remains “fit” for the role. This can be done by undergoing training that enhances his or her technical skills and professional expertise. Concurrently, it enforces that an individual is “proper” by periodically refreshing himself or herself about the relevant ethical standards and regulatory knowledge. The Guidelines on Continuous Professional Training (Guidelines) are published under section 399 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance, Cap. 571 (SFO) by the Securities and Futures Commission. They provide general guidance for individuals to comply with the CPT requirements.
There are 3 key objectives of the CPT programme, namely:
  1. To maintain and enhance their technical knowledge and professional expertise
  2. To provide reasonable assurance to investors at large that they have the technical knowledge, professional skills and ethical standards required to perform the regulated activities efficiently, effectively and fairly; and
  3. To maintain and enhance Hong Kong’s international reputation for high professional standards.
Depending on the size and nature of the business as well as the responsibilities to be undertaken by an individual, the requirements for CPT will vary. Instead of mandating the specific programmes that individuals have to undergo, these guidelines aim to describe the general attributes of the CPT programme. Nonetheless, the objectives of CPT could not be achieved solely through work experience or on-the-job training. Individuals are required to undertake CPT programmes if they are to remain fit and proper.

Relevant CPT activities

Individuals are required to clock in a minimum number of CPT hours per calendar year, with the minimum number of hours dependent on the type of regulated activities the individual is carrying out. CPT hours refer to time spent by individuals in undertaking CPT activities. The CPT activities should be relevant to the functions to be performed by them and should incorporate significant intellectual and practical content and involve interaction with other individuals.
As defined by the SFC, the following are acceptable means of obtaining CPT:
  1. Attending courses, workshops, lectures and seminars
  2. Distance learning which requires submission of assignments
  3. Self-study or online learning courses
  4. Industry research;
  5. Publication of papers
  6. Delivery of speeches
  7. Giving lectures or teaching
  8. Providing comments to industry consultation papers
  9. Attending meetings or undertaking activities as members of the SFC’s regulatory committees or formal working group
  10. Attending luncheon talks which normally last for one to two hours in total (0.5 hour will be counted)
Normal working activities, general reading of financial press or technical, professional, financial or business literature and activities which do not involve interaction with other individuals are generally not regarded as CPT activities.

Relevant topics

There are various topics that professionals and senior management can focus on as part of clocking their CPT hours. Relevant topics for individuals at professional levels include:
For individuals who play a crucial role in ensuring effective corporate governance and control may, in addition to the above topics, include the following:
However, the list of topics above are not exhaustive.
The AAAC has endorsed a list of recognised institutions for providing CPT. Individuals can also sign up for CPT courses provided by iInstitutions which provide recognised industry qualifications for competence purposes. The list of recognised institutions will be updated and posted on the SFC’s website as and when changes occur.
CPT is a key element in ensuring that individuals engaging in financial regulatory activities remain fit and proper. It helps to ensure the compliance of individuals and institutions to local financial laws and regulations. It also keeps individuals updated with the latest financial regulation practices, knowledge, and ethics to perform regulation with optimal levels of efficiency and fairness. All financial institutions in Hong Kong are also responsible for ensuring their employees undertake CPT periodically to enhance their industry knowledge, skills and professionalism.

2023.03.22 03:13 krimewatched Friend [M24] came onto me [22F] while I was crying to him about my breakup. Just wanting some thoughts on the situation

Title pretty much says it all although I do want to mention this happened in the beginning of 2022 but I've never really told anyone. Me and my (now ex) girlfriend broke up after dating for almost two years at the beginning of 2022. I have this friend, who we will call John. John and I were coworkers who became friends, and it was genuinely nothing more. We would hang out sometimes, play video games, go thrifting together etc and I never saw him as more than a friend. Fast forward to my girlfriend and me breaking up, I was absolutely distraught. Vomiting because you're crying so hard kind of thing.... I didn't want to be alone and my bestfriend was at work, and me and John had not hung out in a while and I literally just wanted company. He gets to my house and as soon as he asks me about my ex I lose it. Full on crying in front of him and he hugs me but simultaneously starts rambling on how he could treat me better and what if me and him dated.... yeah. At that point I was literally just spiraling and I think that's why I kind of just brushed it off. Anyways we're sitting at the edge of my bed and he scoots in closer and I sort of get a feeling like he's trying to make a move and I scoot away.... while we're having a conversation he scoots in even closer despite me literally being at the head of my bed and he starts kissing my shoulder and puts his hand on my thigh. I was honestly in shock and slightly tipsy at that point and got up and sat at my desk chair. I wanted him to leave but he was tipsy too and (he drove to my house) I didn't want him to drive drunk. So it was just kind of awkward for a while after and he kept asking me hypotheticals on me and him dating despite me saying continuously how I'm not interested and very clearly still in love with my ex. After that night I haven't seen him, he's reached out but I just felt so icky and gross after everything. I question whether I'm being reasonable since I never flat out said no (it's like the words just couldn't come out I can't explain it, I was shocked and never thought he would try something when I'm very clearly uncomfortable and actively scooting away from him and crying about my ex). So it's like... am I being fair? Am I overreacting by feeling to an extent being taken advantage of even though nothing really happened. He doesn't know how much it all bothered me and I don't plan on telling him or speaking to him ever again. I just want some of your guys' thoughts on the situation

2023.03.22 03:11 Dominicaaa Mortgage payment increasing $500/month, No escrow shortage

Just got my escrow analysis and my lender is saying my monthly payment will increase by $501 going forward. It doesn't make sense and I don't know what actions I can take?
Details: I called today and they said we don't have a shortage (we're actually getting an $1100 refund for 2022). The increase is from projected 2023 taxes. We paid $5750 in taxes and $1925 in insurance in this past year. They are now calculating escrow based of projected taxes of $12,200 and insurance of $1925. Where the heck are these projections coming from? The person I spoke to said I could call the county treasurer and get 2023 numbers from them, but they just started assessments, I doubt that info is going to be available (it's not posted in the online system).
We did buy the house exactly one year ago, so I know the assessed value will increase, but looking at homes in my neighborhood that are in the new range, taxes would only go up by about $1000.

Row #54 Completed AND Another Completed Card!
Welcome back for another completed row. You’re in luck, too, because completing this row also completes another card. As we get closer and closer to the end of the month, I will likely be posting fairly often, with my fingers crossed that I have the time to finish the remaining books I have planned.
For this post, as before, I will post the completed row with its reviews. I will then post the image of all the covers smushed up against each other for the full effect of the color, and then I will post my Bingo Card. I will also include links to the earlier row completion posts in case you want to revisit any of the previous rows and reviews.
For this row, which is a Row #3 on my Violet (Purple) Color Cover Card, I read Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia for the Name on the Title (Hard Mode) square, Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega for the Author Uses Initials square, The Enchanter by Tobias Begley for the Published in 2022 (Hard Mode) square, Shuri by Nic Stone for the Urban Fantasy (Hard Mode) square, and Redemptor by Jordan Ifueko for the Set in Africa (Hard Mode) square.

Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia - 5/5 (MG)
Having already read Last Gate of the Emperor by this author - another amazing book, by the way - I knew that I would enjoy this book. I did not know that this book would make me feel ALL. THE. FEELS.
In yet another book that ignores the Greek and Roman pantheon of gods to instead focus on gods from African history, Mbalia hits another home run. Tristan is a seventh-grade student whose best friend recently died in a bus accident, and Tristan blames himself for Eddie's death. As a result, Tristan has had a tough time healing from the accident; his parents send him from Chicago to Alabama, to live with his grandparents and to, hopefully, heal.
Making the trip with him is Eddie's journal that Eddie's mother had given to Tristan after the funeral. The journal that Tristan hasn't been able to look at, much less open, since his friend's death. The journal that now has a strange symbol on the cover and glows. Yeah. The journal glows. The journal that, now that Tristan is in Alabama, is currently being stolen by some little doll thing. Wait. What?!?
Tristan's desire to not lost the journal that is his last remaining connection to his best friend, Tristan ends up traveling to another world - a world where John Henry, Gum Baby, and Brer Rabbit are real, and where the African trickster god Anansi plays tricks (shocking, I know) and causes problems. I loved reading another book that had gods and folklore heroes from other cultures, and I really loved how this book combined figures that I learned about growing up in the South (John Henry, Brer Rabbit) and new ones that I hadn't. The latter, of course, led to a Google black hole that may or may not have taken up the better part of an afternoon... but I digress.
This book touched on lots of different issues and did not shy away from tackling the tough ones. Eddie's death, and Tristan's blaming himself for it, was one that kept coming up as Tristan progressed through the story, and the way that Mbalia showed Tristan dealing with it was beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. I may or may not have cried a few times. But don't tell anyone.
Now, after having sung some of the praises of this book, I will admit to something that I'm not proud of. I have had this book on my TBR list for a while because the book cover is awesome. But I was hesitant to read it because I was unsure about how the story was going to incorporate the figures of John Henry and Brer Rabbit, and I was worried that it would end up being simplistic. It actually took me reading Last Gate of the Emperor and experiencing Mbalia's writing before I was willing to try out Tristan Strong. I am glad I did, and I wish I hadn't been as hesitant to read it in the beginning. This book is absolutely wonderful, and the incorporation of the folk heroes, as well as the West African gods, is done beautifully. I now have the rest of this series on my TBR list.
For this book, I chose to listen to the audiobook. I figured that I would do so as a throwback to the folk heroes included in the book, whose tales were passed down as part of oral history for so long. The narrator, Amir Abdullah, did a fabulous job. His performance enhanced the experience so much - I'm partially blaming him for the tears that may or may not have fallen, though most of that fault lies with Mbalia - and his voice was so enthralling that I found it very difficult to hit the pause button when I needed to stop listening (curse you, sleep! why must you interrupt all of my good books?!?). Given the choice between reading and listening to the other books in this series, I will choose listening.
So, after reading through that entire review, if you're still unsure about whether or not to read or listen to this book, let me ask you these questions: Do you like main characters who experience positive character growth in their stories? Do you like magic? Do you like heroes? Do you like quirky sidekicks (please don't tell Gum Baby I called her quirky...or a sidekick)? Do you like characters from diverse backgrounds that aren't just cardboard cutouts of stereotypes? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you'll probably enjoy this book and should read it. If you didn't answer yes to any of the questions, I'm a little concerned that you don't like magic, but I respect that people have different interests. I still think you should give the book a try (I mean, you wouldn't be looking at the reviews if you weren't at least a little bit interested, right?).
Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega - 5/5 (MG)
Seven is looking forward to the upcoming ceremony in which she will find out what coven she will be in. Having done the research, she knows that best friends have always ended up in the same coven, and she's hoping that she and her best friend Poppy will both end up in the Hyacinth coven.
What Seven does not expect is that she will end up being one of the 3 Spares, witchlings who aren't selected for a coven. Then, to make matters worse, when the magic circle that is supposed to seal their coven of three Spares doesn't close, Seven faces the prospect of being a Forever Witchling and losing access to powerful magic forever. In an attempt to avoid that fate, Seven does the only thing she can do: she invokes the impossible task. If the three witchlings can succeed and complete the impossible task, then their coven will be sealed. If they can't? Well, they'll be turned into toads. Forever.
This was a really fun book to read. I love the concept of the character names being prophecies, and I also enjoyed the way the friendship between the three spares developed as they went about trying to complete their task. The author did a wonderful job with the mystery, and I truly did not expect what actually happened, nor suspect who the actual culprit was. I was a little suspicious about the lack of information surrounding the previous witchlings who had attempted an impossible task, and figured that something was going on there. While I had figured out the what, I did not suspect the who.
This was definitely a great read, and I encourage you to read it as well. If you like witches, magic, mysteries, and friendship, then you will enjoy this book. Now I am looking forward to reading Ghost Squad by the same author.
The Enchanter by Tobias Begley - 5/5
The adopted human son of an elvish tailor, Evander "Evan" was looking forward to a nice life as a tailor, taking over his father's shop once he passes. That was his plan, that is, until he suddenly discovers he has a magical aura. Now, his plan includes attending Yesgol Academy of Magic and avoiding failing out so he doesn't end up conscripted into the military.
Though Evan adjusts well to this change in his life plans, he quickly finds himself involved in a secret society trying to bring reform to the current magic system, dealing with horrific beings summoned from another land that are incredibly dangerous, or catching the eye and interest of a noble-born young man who has been excommunicated from his family.
With all of that going on, Evan has his work cut out for him.
First, I have read several academy novels, and I have found that my interest level tends to vary based on how unique the story is. I can safely say that, while there are some similarities between this book and the Mage Errant series - especially in the personalities of the protagonists - there are enough differences that this book stands out, much like the Mage Errant series. This is only the first book in the series, and I am glad the author is continuing the series because I definitely want to know what happens to Evan and Osheen.
As opposed to many of the romantic relationships that we tend to see in these types of novels, the romance here was very much a slow-burn, with the romance developing throughout the book as the two characters spend time together. As a result, it felt much more real to me. I also liked the amount of time the author devoted to the interpersonal relationships among all the characters; it really helped bring the other characters to life. At the same time, the author spends a great deal of time on worldbuilding, but instead of feeling like a series of infodumps that just overwhelm the reader, the information was provided at times that made it relevant to the reader.
The only real complaint that I have is with the way part of the plot was resolved at the end. For an aspect that was used to induce quite a bit of tension throughout the novel, it felt a bit too easy for me. That said, there are still plenty of ways that could come back up in a later book, and there is still the overarching plot of magic reform to continue in later books to deal with. At the same time, the way the plot was resolved wasn't unrealistic; it was just... it's almost like it was too easy, and now I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Who knows? Maybe it will in the next book. Aside from that, though, I absolutely loved this book, and I cannot wait for the next book.
Also, I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook, which was narrated by Emily Ellet. At first, it was a little odd listening to a female narrator for a male protagonist. That didn't last long though. Ellet did a wonderful job with the narration, and I absolutely loved her performance of the different characters and the voices she used to bring them to life. I do hope that she will narrate any sequels published so I can listen to her narrate those as well.
Shuri by Nic Stone - 5/5 (YA)
If you are not familiar with Princess Shuri, then you definitely need to change that. Ever since seeing her portrayed in the Black Panther movie, she has become my favorite princess, and this book is a wonderful story highlighting her.
The traditional Wakandan Challenge Day - a day in which anyone can challenge King T'Challa for the throne by attempting to beat him in hand-to-hand combat - is fast approaching and T'Challa has asked Shuri to design him a new Black Panther suit that is stretchier and doesn't ride up. However, every time Shuri attempts to infuse some of the heart-shaped herb plants that provide the Black Panther with his (or her) super-human abilities, the process fails.
With her stores of the herb running low, she goes to Sacred Field to procure some more, only to find out that the plants are dying. The process is slow, but it is estimated that all of the plants will die out on Challenge Day. And though the person serving as Black Panther only has to ingest the plant once in order to have its effects forever, if T'Challa should happen to be defeated on Challenge Day, there is a very large risk of no plants surviving for the new Black Panther; no plants means no super-human abilities, which means the new Black Panther would just be a regular guy in a cool-looking suit.
Shuri cannot let that happen, though - the plants dying, not her brother losing since she has no control over her brother's success - so she immediately begins investigating what is killing the plants and how to reverse the process. Accompanying her in her investigation is her (maybe best) friend K'Marah, who is also in training to become a Dora Milaje. Of course, her investigation progress is being seriously hindered by her mother, the Queen, who keeps insisting that Shuri take guards with her everywhere she goes - even inside the palace! Will Shuri be able to give the guards the slip so she can complete her investigations? And what about the rumors that T'Challa is going to reveal Wakanda's presence to the world?
This was a great story starring Shuri and I can't wait to read the sequel. If you like smart and strong female protagonists who insist on saving their country even when no one else will believe her that the country is in danger, then you'll enjoy this book, too. So you should read it. That is all.
Redemptor by Jordan Ifueko - 5/5 (YA)
For only the second time in the history of Aritsar, there is an Empress on the throne. But Tarisai is not alone. Sharing the throne with her is Diao, Emperor of Aritsar. Two Raybearers. One male and one female, as had been originally intended. But all is not well.
For Tarisai has made a promise: She will anoint her own council from the rulers of the various lands of Aritsar within the next two years, at which time she will serve as the final Redemptor of the land. If she fails, the world will fall to war. But how is Tarisai supposed to convince the leaders to love her?
To make things worse, she is being haunted by child spirits, dealing with a growing rebellion, avoiding assassination attempts, and trying to figure out how to rule well.
This story picks up shortly after the end of the Raybearer and expands on the story in a beautiful way. Rather than Tarisai supporting Daio while fighting against her own curse, she is growing into her own person and as a ruler. But that growth is not easy, and it requires her to come to terms with her own past.
I think I enjoyed this book even more than Raybearer. While Ifueko doesn’t skimp on the development of the characters throughout, this book is really about Tarisai’s growth, both as a person and as an Empress. We see her highs, her lows, her struggles, her loves, her desires, and her expectations, all while she tries to fulfill the promises she has made. The character growth she makes is slow in places, and at times I wanted to shake her for the choices she was making, but she does get there in the end. Of course, she doesn’t get there alone, and there are lots of interactions with other characters, some serious and others frivolous, which serve to provide a wider picture of the world and its systems while also supporting the story of Tarisai’s growth.
For those of you who have read Raybearer and enjoyed it, you will most likely enjoy this book. If you haven’t read Raybearer yet, you really should read it. Jordan Ifueko weaves a beautiful story of love, belonging, survival, family, oppression, politics, and systemic issues in these two books that is absolutely fantastic.
As with the Raybearer, I listened to the audiobook of Redemptor, which was narrated by Joniece Abbott-Pratt. She does a fantastic job, and she is quickly becoming one of my favorite female narrators. I definitely recommend listening to her narration. She has a cadence that is absolutely fantastic for this duology, and I greatly enjoyed her performances of the various chants and calls-and-responses.

And now comes the fun part. First, the smushed together card:

If there are any rows with books that interest you, and you want to visit or revisit the reviews on that row, the links are below:
Row #1
Row #2
Row #4
Row #5 (Row #21 in the post)
And, here is the final Bingo Card. As a reminder, the stars on this card are different from the star ratings that I gave each book. The star ratings on this card are related to how likely I was to read the book before the Book Bingo started. 1 star means I was going to read the book whether it fit a square or not, so YAY, it fit a square! 2 stars mean that the book was on my TBR list and would have most likely been read sometime this year even without the bingo cards. 3 Stars means the book was on my TBR list, but likely 2-3 years out (My TBR list is, at the moment, about 4 years long given my current reading speed of 450-550 books/year. No, I don't have a problem. Why do you ask?). 4 stars means that I found the book while searching for books to fill squares, but I most likely would have read it or at least put it on my TBR list had I discovered the book in a different way. 5 stars mean that I found and read the book specifically because it fits a bingo square.

If you have reached this point of the post, thank you for your time and attention. With the completion of this row, I have finished 294 of the 300 books. All of the remaining 6 books are on their own rows, and of the remaining 5 remaining cards, 1 of them has 2 open squares and 4 have only 1 open square. Here’s hoping I have enough time to get them all read before the end of the month!
Until next time, Happy Reading!

Newb wanting to build Robotic commercial show
Hi I am new to this Arduino thing, in fact I haven’t even coded yet, I want to build a robotic show mixed with Video media for the county fair to experience, I have an Arduino starting pack, a SD card adapter for the video media but I am not sure how to make a “Piano Player System“ (You record your button pressing data, and then if you save the file it will play your button pressing signals)
I also don’t know how many signals an Arduino can send or if DC 24V will explode the Arduino
I need 48 signals for my project and knowledge of how to program and code

The Valve Bank on the left( it has in built + - and whatever “signal N” is), the Arduino Pack on the right
The Sd Card adapter loaded with a 128 GB Sd Card
