2023.06.07 10:30 SummerIsOver_ Aversion - How do I work with it? How would you 'go with the grain' here?

One of my biggest problems is aversion.
For me, aversion feels like a mild form of disgust and some low-key anger. Maybe akin to when you have to go to the gym and you really, really don't want to - but 10x more intense.
Some days I wake up in a 'normal' mood and I am 'happy' to do anything - read, work, grocery shopping, talk with clients at work, clean the house, learn things.
However, when I wake up with an aversive mood which often lasts the entire day, I tend to dislike/feel disgust towards EVERYTHING - also for things that I'd normally like.
For example, I would feel aversion/disgust for the following. In fact, when I have those days there's usually not even a single thing that I'd truly enjoy doing:
  1. Going to a coffee shop to work with my laptop (I feel aversion/disgust - It feel much harder to do it)
  2. Cleaning my house
  3. Even playing video games or watching movies
  4. Talking with people
  5. Taking showers - Skincare (I usually love skincare!)
I end up not wanting to do anything/everything feels much harder to do.
I'm trying to figure out why I feel like this and why I feel such a difference day by day. The activities themselves cannot be the problem because when I am in a normal mood I am very happy to engage with them - the same activities that I dread when I am in an aversive mood.
I'm a bit lost. I suppose the opposite of aversion is metta so I am going to try to practice it, but it is really, really hard when I feel like that.
Any ideas on how to deal with this?
Thank you 🙏

2023.06.07 10:29 ShadySeer First-timer teaching children, please help

Hello everyone,
First of all, I’ll start by saying I’m not a trained English teacher. I studied English as a kid at a local private school and continued studying it at university. Ever since the start of the pandemic, the school I used to attend asked me to help them with a few classes. This has continued until now and I can say that I sort of have a part-time job there.
What has happened now is that the director asked me to teach a few classes of children. He allowed me to observe another teacher for a couple of classes and basically gave me free reign on what to do with the rest of the lessons.
The school uses books like Kid’s Box, both the Pupil’s book and the Activity book. I figured that, since they had finished either one of the book, the children would somewhat be familiar with the material. For the classes who had completed the Pupil’s book, I gave exercises from the Activity book and for the classes who had completed the Activity book, I gave exercises from the Pupil’s book.

For the most part, most of my attempts went terribly. Most of the children could barely utter a few words. They were not familiar with half of the words they were expected to know (at least based on what was taught). Also, the moment I’d try to get the attention of a distracted child, other two would start to doze off or space out. One smarter kid would get bored and start sliding down in the chair in boredom while I’d try to explain the instructions for the third time to a class – and this was for exercises where you’d have to use the comparatives and you’d only have two select two alternatives in each sentence; nothing as difficult as writing your own words.
Thankfully, I’d also try to come up with silly games like – I’d ask each one to throw a little ball to a classmate saying a verb in the present simple, and the other one would have to tell the verb in the past simple; or alternatively, I’d play the sound of an animal through an app and they’d have to guess the name of the animal, which would in turn allow me to ask questions like: “Is a sheep light or heavy?”, or again simple flashcards challenges with Anki, making them see pictures of objects and asking them to name them. I could see their eyes light up every time I'd ask them to either move their bodies in some way or decipher pictures instead of text. That's to be expected, but how is one supposed to keep doing this for one hour every time? My understanding from these few weeks is that children just can't sit still and should do a lot of practical activities. That becomes difficult when the topic isn't something that can be introduced in real-life - for example, when talking about wild animals or buildings. Ultimately, they must learn to 'talk'. But I struggle to find activities that they could find entertaining.
Also, is it normal for 8-year-olds not to bring a notebook with them? None of the children took notes. What was the point of writing out the words for them? Is it that I’m just used to teaching teenagers and adults and I expect everybody to at least have a pen and a notebook? Should my whole approach be different?
Now, I’ll say this. I actually enjoy English and, since the director is so friendly with me and the school is small, there may be some possibility for me to eventually start working there. But I don’t have any experience with children and the director hasn’t been really helpful in guiding me and giving me any tips. I’ve already studied at university and even the CELTA doesn’t really cover how to handle classes of children.
I’m basically asking for help to more experienced teachers. It really is a general request – any help would be very much appreciated.
tl;dr: it's been the first two weeks since I've started teaching children and it's a nightmare. I enjoy it, but I see the children don't pay attention, don't know anything at all and it's hard to manage a class. I want resources to learn proper methods, methodologies and most of all activities that work and keep them focused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.07 10:29 Proud_Examination_96 I am in pain but have no insurance

For the past 9 days, I have been in complete agony. My left calf started to hurt. Like a horrible sharp pain when I try to walk. The pain goes to my lower back as well. It’s so intense it has left me practically bed ridden. Even though I didn’t want to, I ended up caving and calling 911 on the 6th day that I could not move and was in constant pain.
I went Sunday morning because I just couldn’t take it anymore. The experience was horrible. After they did some ultrasound on my leg and ruled out a blood clot the doctor basically came in the room and was asking me in a condescending way why I was in so much pain. That he didn’t understand and to help him understand. I couldn’t even respond. I was upset. But too much in pain to say anything. I was practically rushed out of the ER room and wheeled out into a bench with a diagnosis of Muscle Strain and some prescription for pills… Can’t wait to get the bill for this.
I never realized just how humiliating and frustrating it is to have professionals tell you that you have nothing when you’re feeling immense debilitating pain. I am glad it’s not a blood clot. But I’m certain it’s not just some muscle strain either…
I did have insurance early on in the year. But life happened and I wasn’t able to continue paying for it. I did call to see if there was a way I could reinstate it and was told I’d have to pay my owed amount in full which I cannot do at the moment… I have no money and no specialist will see me without a referral or a huge amount to self-pay. I got a doctor’s note for two days off. Tomorrow I am supposed to return to work and Im not even sure how I am going to get up and do so. My job is my livelihood so I am mortified.
For context, I am f29, 5’8”, 368lbs. I live in the states. It’s 3:00am writing this because I cannot sleep with the pain. I am not sure what to do. Is anyone aware of any options someone with no insurance has under these circumstances? I am in so much pain. I can’t stop crying and no specialist will see me without money or insurance…

2023.06.07 10:28 sunnydaze8 My 26F boyfriend M30 implied I was the C word after calling him out on his alcoholism. Was I wrong for blocking him on all platforms immediately following his response?

My (F,26) boyfriend (M,30) and I got into an argument tonight. We have been dating for about 6 months. As time has gone on I thought simple partying and going to the bars was just that but for him and from what I’ve seen, he is a full blown alcoholic. I have been on the fence about dumping him but today was the final straw.
We were talking about going to a concert and he stated he preferred to go to a certain venue because it had lawn seats. The lawn is usually where the party crowd is and you can’t even see the concert, mainly just hear it. I stated, “feel like you just want to be on the lawn so you can get wasted.” He instantly got defensive and pissed. Said that I always want to start an argument with him.
He said, “there’s just no good days with you.” Me: “yeah I’m just a miserable c**t” And he said, “yeah pretty much look at you right now.”
I didn’t even read anything after that, I immediately blocked him from every platform.
I’m trying not to gaslight myself and excuse this behavior. Even though I said that about myself (which I shouldn’t of) it doesn’t sit right with me that he agreed/said that back.
Tl;dr: My (F,26) boyfriend (M,30) implied I was a c**t after I said it about myself after I called him out about his alcoholism. I blocked him from all platforms and haven’t spoken to him since.

2023.06.07 10:28 iltizodifallout What archon crystals should I install on gauss?

Because I would like to make gauss god mode for the steel path, I can already do it, I just thought but if I use archon vitality to put double fire damage the power drops to 40% so if I put the forged crimson archon crystals you can make it come back to 100% and destroy everything. But is archon vitality really strong? Or do you have any builds that only let me nuke cast the third skill twice and be in God mode? Thanks in advance.

2023.06.07 10:28 PilotFuture606 30$ modded keyboard

i a few days ago tried to mod this keyboard i am a 14 year old so my mom wont give me too much money I ended up not spending money at all,It was a pain in the a** to mod this sh**ty keyboard i had moded it with 1 layer pe foam and tape modded it earlier but i was curious how good it would sound with 2 layer pe foam, when i opened up the keyboard i at first opened up the keyboard then cut the pe foam so that the screw hole thingy can go through, when i put it in the keyboard and tried to screw it in, i could only put 2 of the screws together and the USB c port got higher so i had to open it up again and see what was wrong i atfirst sanded the USB c port hole so that the cable could get through after that i noticed that the battery was puffed up like a damn marsmellow, i got scared so i put a perfume with alcohol on the glue(the glue that holds the battery) and almost punctured the battery after that i threw the battery far away(i was really scared)then i put the keyboard together, had to wrestle with the screws to get it together had to put 5/6 screws, the pain was worth it tbh , took me 3 hours to do all the mods(tape mod 3 layers, and 2 layer pe foam) i also had done a few mods b4 the specs are listed below:

2023.06.07 10:27 Strange_Blueberry188 Kids Sci-fi about controlling troubled children?

Im only saying kids novel because It was a relatively short read, maybe 300 pages. Might have been more for a teenage audience considering the story.
Read it in maybe 2015 when I was in grade school.
My teacher had given it to me and I held onto it for a while.
Cover was of a girl looking forward and I believe a city in the background, navy blue/dark green color all around.
It was set in the future, but from what I remember what really was the difference was how they treated Minors who committed crimes.
Basically went like this: Anybody under the age of 18 in the story who committed a crime had their memory erased and was uprooted from their home so they can “start over” in life. They were sent to be fostered and try to go back to living normal lives. I believe it was something on their wrist or a headband/band of some kind that indicated that they were “different”? I think these bands also would shock them if they got too violent or curious about the bands. Also the kids who were memory wiped were all in some sort of group.
The main character who was a female had the whole memory wipe happened to her and the big reveal was I think she found out what her crime was?
Any help would be great! Thank you

2023.06.07 10:27 ThePickleExecutioner Infinity Gaming Laptop

So after going back and forth with trying to figure out what I was going to get I found infinity gaming (think Australia only?) So I just thought I would give my impressions for anyone else who might be interested as when you search for them there isn't a great deal out there besides a couple of posts.
My model is: M7-13R7A-899
They are tongfang boards just like metabox and other home brands found at Walmart and other places.
Have only been using a week but so far so good.
My box was actually delivered with a large stab/puncture through the side from transport, took all of 5 minutes for them to email me back a form for me to fill out with my details and pictures, the next day a courier came to my house and picked it up, 4 days later a brand new one with extra protective packaging arrived, excellent customer service throughout.
I was curious how well made it would be but its really sturdy, well made chassis, obviously it depends on what model you get but I am extremely happy with how this performs.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask 😊

2023.06.07 10:27 nkodrobbo Dyslexia help uk

49 year old male. Diagnosed at 8 after learning ITA English at school which properly messed me up, but that is another argument.
I went to special school 11-13 in a mainstream school. We would sign in then leave the room to go and play for three years. Eventually my parents took on second jobs and got me a private tutor which allowed me to "catch up"
Failed all my GCSEs
Got jobs for the rest of my life that meant I avoided paperwork and ended up in the prison officer service.
Hid my dyslexia for 16 years till I was sick of holding the mask all the time.
Decided to ask for help from remploy who were amazing. Remploy is free for anyone with a disability in the UK. They got me rediagnosed and they put together a package of support that they would fund 85% of.
Went to the manager in charge of staff and she said she also had dyslexia and she could manage without support. She refused the application and told me I would need to put together a business plan before she would support it. I forwarded her email onto my MP, the equalities minister and a disability solicitor and the same days she approved my application!!!!
In total I received over 6k in IT support and lessons how to use them. Needless to say my career flourished. I managed to get two promotions and I am happier than I have ever been.
I was also asked to help other staff with disabilities and I am now the area representative to support others.
Remploy were amazing and so supportive.
It is a tough fight that no one should have to make. If it were a physical disability everyone knows what to do 'ie wheelchair. I feel because it is invisible everyone assumes they know what support you need without even asking.
The old ' we will give you an extra 30 minutes and a dictionary ' thanks but it is no help at all.
If you need me to post the links I am more than happy

2023.06.07 10:27 Sufficient-Bar223 How do I lower my appearance obsessions

I have heard several words of advice on bdd that I struggle to apply. For instance, i hear people say to understand its all in my head and that people don't see the flaws I see. Since day 1, I've been aware that I've had bdd. Subsequently, I know that my flaws are mostly in my head and even if they weren't, my reactions to them are unusual and inappropriate. What I'm trying to say here is that I know it's all in my head and that no one sees me the way i see myself but this doesnt help me. My problem isnt what others think of me, its what i think of me. That's why my confidence is so bad.
I also hear people say "stop checking in the mirrors" . I think this is helpful advice but for me it's very difficult to follow through on. I have a very strong reliance on mirrors for reassurance right now. It's almost like an addiction. I spend anywhere from a few minutes to several hours in front of a mirror until I feel good about myself in my checks. Usually after that I have a few days where I feel alright. Eventually however, I feel my confidence slipping down to unbearable levels to the point where I can't stand it anymore. That's when I check again. I've tried many times to resist the urge to check but like I said, my confidence plummets and this mentally holds me hostage until I find myself looking into the mirror again. Due to this vicious cycle, im under the impression that I need to fix some major fundamental issues in my mentality before I can just simply stop cold turkey.
People make it out to seem like understanding how broken and backwards my thoughts are is the key to beating bdd. My problem isnt acknowledging that I have a messed up view of myself. My real problem is having a realistic plan to dismantle these appearance preoccupations. If anyone has specific advice on how to lower my appearance obsessions I'd greatly appreciate it.

2023.06.07 10:27 vayaconleah What can I do with a text in which my dad admits to buying drugs?

This is probably a long shot, but a week ago, my dad told me that he bought a bunch of Norco from some guy at Home Depot. I was horrified, knowing that pills can be counterfeit and having known two people who ODed after purchasing opiates laced with Fentanyl.
I told him to never do it again and all he did was make excuses. He's an addict, thought not to opiates (yet) and I'll do everything I can to dissuade him from buying pills again, including trying to send him to jail. I know there are drugs in jail too, but I can't just do nothing.
I have a series of texts in which I reference Norco by name and he says he bought "those pills" to help me but the threw them away. Should I even bother letting the police know?

Unfortunately I was just filling up the Power steering fluid on my 2008 Mercedes GL450 and accidentally dropped the Power steering reservoir cap in the engine bay area, I have been searching for it for the past 40 Minutes and I just couldn’t find it, I tried to trace the oil splatter that it made since the car had some oil on it and just couldn’t seem to find it (just my luck)
I tried looking online for a replacement immediately and I couldn’t find one that states that it fits (2008 GL450) all of them are for E class, SL, C class, GLK, etc. can anyone help me with the part number or know a website I can buy one from immediately?
Also is the Power Steering pressurized? Do you think there would be an issue if I drove the car for a few minutes without the cap? (Less than a Mile)
I do apologize if my questions are stupid in any way, I am just completely clueless and could really use some advice/help.

2023.06.07 10:27 Abomination31212 I finally figured out why I cant make friends

I finally figured out why I have such a hard time making friends and it's because of a lot of different reasons. The main reason is that I can never get close to people emotionally anymore. I've had everyone I consider a friends just leave me for seeminlgly no reason and at this point I'm just used to people walking out of my life at any moment. Because of that I never can get close to people because I always try to distance myself from everybody. The second reason is that I'm just way too self destructive. It ties back to the first reason but whenever I actually feel that I like someone I just block them so that I dont get close to them. The final reason is that I just feel like a burden and an annoyance. I've been told by multiple people that my mental issues make me too much to deal with. I got made fun of in the past for having touretts which only made them worse. I've gotten yelled at because I was having anxiety attacks during PE in middle school. I really wanna try to make some new friends but I honestly think it's impossible. The idea of having a partner is just so gone for me but it's still always on my mind. I just dont know what to do at this point. If anyone wants to try to be my friend be my guest. I'm sure it'll end up a total shitshow though.

2023.06.07 10:26 berniedankera My shrooms experience at Coachella

I've been meaning to reflect back on my first Coachella experience this year because of how impactful it was. It was chaotic, euphoric, and blissful throughout the whole weekend.
Come Saturday morning (2nd day), I decide to take 0.5g of Penis Envy, eagerly waiting for the day to begin as I was pumped to see Jai Paul perform for the first time. Anyhow, I wash it down with a Yerba Mate in my car and got ready to head out with my group. As I make my way outside, I went and greeted myself to my camping neighbours and began talking about our backgrounds and the sets we wanted to catch. We ended up going to see Yaeji perform later, but I meet back with my group to see Yung Lean perform first. While I was on my way, I was thinking to myself if that was me sober or if that was my trip beginning to hit earlier. But anyways, during Lean's set, that's when I knew for certain my shrooms kicked in. I felt anxious at first but once he performed Kyoto, all my anxiety went away to the point where I made it to the mosh pit.
As I was making my way back to camp to briefly rest, I began voicing all my thoughts out loud, because I was complimenting everyone's outfits. I was so blown away with how creative and gnarly everyone's fits were throughout the whole weekend. I don't know if it was a combination of the desert heat and the shrooms, but I was amazed with how social I was with everyone (side-note: it felt cool seeing everyone's positive reactions). Not to say that I'm antisocial when I'm sober which I'm not in the slightest, but my trip accelerated that through the roof. I was thankful my friends were there who made sure I was hydrated, which I recommend everyone to invest in water backpacks and iv liquid! They came in clutch for the whole fest.
Fast forward to Yaeji's set I was still baked and at that point I was blown away with how it LASTS, but I did not feel any anxiety at all thanks to Yaeji's set which was insane! During the end of her set, I meet a girl next to me at front row. She mentioned she's best friends with one of the back up dancers, and I was so blown away. It took me a while to take that in because it sounded so casual yet was so sick haha. As I was still contemplating on that, Yaeji closed her set with Raingurl which was a blast!!! The whole stage (which mind you had roof chandeliers) felt like one giant club, I was at a loss of words.
While heading out after her set, I was ready to hit the hay but that's when I turned to my left and JAI PAUL WAS PERFORMING at the next stage! I was already so blown away by the day at that point, that I forgot who I was mostly looking forward to see haha. As I'm making my way, the crowd was already packed but I was determined. I at first tried to convince the security to let me through vip WHICH he agreed to on the condition that I Venmoed him. I said forget that, and I still made it front row through ga lol. Jai Paul somehow someway ended up topping both Yung Lean and Yaeji in a way I cannot describe. Throughout his whole set, I felt like I was on a spiritual journey in Mumbai. Speaking of which, he closed his set with Str8 Outta Mumbai which got me in genuine tears of joy. Halfway through that song, he samples vocals from Vani Jairam which translates from Hindi, 'the personification of music as a lover is to express love for music'. That was the most euphoric and life changing event I've ever experienced at a festival, let alone a performance. To close it off, I met and danced with some dude who visited all the way from Nepal just to see him perform.
I cannot fathom how all of that occurred in the span of just ONE day. I just can't comprehend that looking back at it, but thank god I was capable of recording most of it. The weekend as a whole was just insane. It was sick and I'm super thankful that my experience was one that left a lasting and positive impact on me. The idea of seeing a Swedish rapper perform, then a K-house artist, to seeing a British Indian artist WHOSE NEVER PERFORMED IN HIS CAREER is just insane looking back.
I want to disclose I don't want to encourage anyone based on my positive experience. Being on any substance in the Coachella heat is no joke and I was thankful I took all precautions before and during. But on that note, it was gnarly and I look forward to returning lol

2023.06.07 10:26 stuntblunt bad haircut

i went to a barber today that was supposed to be trans friendly but was honestly they were not. i live on the outskirts of a big city in texas, so i’m not very surprised, but pretty disappointed.
when i was telling them what i wanted they were pretty dismissive and they asked “so you’re going for a more butch look” and i’m not great really at speaking up for myself so all i really said to that was that i wanted something that will help masculinize my face a bit more. not butch, i’m not a lesbian, i have a pretty masculine name so i was confused as to why he would think i’m a lesbian wanting a butch cut and i was booked as a MENS cut. so that wasn’t fun.
then during the cut he was pretty crass and even tried to recommend me a jefferi star🤮 product for skincare or something, like dawg everyone should know jefferi star is an awful person in more ways than a few. and they said some other sort of passing transphobic comments and when my hair was done it was a fucking pixie cut. it was not how i asked at all. we even talked about the fact that i’m transitioning during my haircut! i’m so tired of getting a haircut and ending up looking like a lesbian, not that lesbians aren’t cool, it’s just obviously not the way i want to present. i’m a man, i want a men’s haircut! now dysphoria is eating me up and it’s making me not want to leave the house.

2023.06.07 10:26 Shambles_SM Feeling a little left out, I suppose

As I've already mentioned I'm a potato gamer so Strive barely runs with the Potato mod on. Can play against Asuka because of his capeless mod, but never when Tir na nOg is the stage (no Potato Mod update for that yet as the author doesn't own it yet) nor against Testament as both make my game unplayable.
Combine that with living in Southeast Asia and dealing with subpar internet connection (maybe even with a slightly bad wifi adapter) and people flocking over to SF6 and it feels a little lonely.
Now don't get me wrong, I still love Strive. I'd love to try SF6 and a new fighting game in my list but my PC will most definitely not be able to play it let alone am I able to buy it (I only play GGST via family share). ACPR just feels too fast and clunky for me. Don't even get me started on the amount of days I have to keep my PC running overnight while it downloads.
