2023.03.25 10:19 SirHolyCow [PC] [Early-Mid 2000s] A point-and-click puzzle/adventure game, likely set on a 'green island', near the game's end an eruption (?) occurs and everything gets covered in ash/dust (Scandinavian developer)

Platform(s): PC
Genre: Puzzle, hidden object, adventure, escape (?)
Graphics/art style: Low res but 'realistic' - Fairly colourful at the game's start
Notable characters: None in particular (you never even see your own character)
Hi everyone, I'd like to start by saying that many years ago I actually knew exactly what this game was called. There was a post on this sub (or maybe a gaming sub?) which specifically discussed this game. I was rather shocked because I originally thought that it was a very niche game which nobody had ever played. Anyway, these are the main details of the game that I can recall - I really wish I could recollect more but I can't unfortunately:
That's all I've got. Thanks in advance to anyone that can assist :)

2023.03.25 10:08 createdjustforthis23 25/03/2023

I can’t be bothered writing my whole dream thing but there were a string of deaths and it was sort of a puzzle to work out who it was and who would be next. There was also a weird thing with my mums friends son, I was sort of seeing him in it? And I even went to give him a blowjob in it and tasted him and recoiled and ran away from him so good to know I’m polite in my dreams. I even remember it - it tasted as salty as seaweed. And anyway that was weird because I haven’t seen, thought or heard about him in forever. Funny how dreams are like that. I wish I could have more dreams of Andy. Maybe my brain just exhausts all possible thoughts of him when I’m conscious? So when I slip into a state of subconscious it’s got to bring out filler men/people. Makes sense. Sort of. Not really. I miss the dream I had where I sat on the floor between his legs while he read a story to some kids in a library or something, it felt so real. But at least it all will be real. Anyway it was a very who dunnit kinda dream.
I’ve had a slow but productive morning. I guess I turned my alarm off by mistake so I woke up at 10ish. I did my usual morning things like medication, make my bed, brush my teeth, skincare etc. I’m doing super simple skincare as my skin just seems so blah. It’s feeling okay but I just feel like perhaps my barrier is more impaired than I realised? So I’m going to stick to trust nourishing cleansing, a hydrating serum and cicaplast for the foreseeable, plus SPF in the day obviously. I’m also going to start with religiously taking vitamins this week, specifically omega 3’s as I definitely don’t consume enough via my diet and that’s showing in my skin so god only knows how it’s showing internally yknow. So I’m intending to take some kind of animal/environment friendly omega 3 which I’ll need to buy this week. I’ll take magnesium, iron and then I think maybe zinc or D3? I don’t want to overdo it, that doesn’t help, I want to keep it simple and focus on what my weekly diet is lower in and what I might need more of to help supplement my diet. Ultimately I’d like to get everything I need via diet but that’s just not realistic for me.
So far this morning I’ve done a bunch of laundry, I’ve tidied my work desk and had a major declutter so now I don’t have draws full of screwed up paper and trash basically. I now have one drawer dedicated to notebooks, stationery and that sort of thing. My other drawer is dedicated to plugs, cables, spare mouse/headset for work etc. And it’s all very nice and tidy and organised and it makes me feel nice. I am absolutely someone who gets overwhelmed when I’m surrounded by mess and clutter, I think I’m more easily overstimulated at times than I’d care to admit. Like I thought I felt an earthquake yesterday, I didn’t but it set me off a little bit and I wondered maybe I could call Andy to distract me but then the very idea of talking to anyone while also trying to suss if there’s earthquakes going on feels WAY too much and stresses me out. Same with loud music and loud TV, I really don’t like it but more so if someone is talking overtop of it or something. It’s just too much at once, I don’t mind loud things or messy things - I have no issue with them and I’d like to be more okay with them because I’m sure I used to be - but it just really stresses me out. My therapist explained it in a different way, we were talking about how I fake laugh in various contexts. I guess I should explain. So I was saying how I feel the same as everyone else but I still feel different and detached but mostly in the sense of my connection with other people. Eg. At work yesterday morning, there was a team call and a funny story was shared and objectively I found it funny, like it was quite a good story. But I didn’t want to laugh, I couldn’t bring myself to laugh, everyone else was so I faked it as usual as to not appear rude or out of place. I do this all the time and have got as long as I can remember but I find it harder to laugh the last however many years. Anyway so my point is, she compared it to me walking down the street with a friend, they’re cracking a joke and laughing and looking ahead as they walk, whereas I’m looking to my left and seeing a car imminently about to crash into us. So I’m not laughing at the joke, maybe I’d find it objectively funny but I can’t laugh as my inner alarm bells are going off saying danger danger but the friend isn’t as they don’t see the car. She said that’s how my anxiety works, and I already knew that and I’ve been told almost that same example before, but it just resonated more because she included another person in the scenario so it helped me understand my perspective and someone else’s perspective. But so she said in my work setting I am on edge, I am anxious and I am unable to feel at ease or relaxed. So therefore it’s not natural for me to feel connected and “safe” to laugh and genuinely enjoy myself. I’m too busy fielding all the danger danger thoughts racing through my mind all day every day. Whereas if I’m sprawled out on the sofa at my parents house with just us three and pups on my lap and we’re doing the crossword, I’ll be able to genuinely laugh and enjoy myself because I feel safer and more at ease. I often feel anxiety and on edge with my parents, I feel it frequently, but I can also be at ease with them and that’s when I can truly react in a genuine manner. I’ll still laugh even if it’s not entirely genuine as I don’t like to make others feel bad though, this was when I learned I’m mindful of others. Anyway. I’m rambling. I’m having a tidy up because I’ve been feeling quite overwhelmed lately especially with work and I want to set myself up for a successful week and I think step one is to declutter and clean my space so that I can breathe easier.

New Protector Update?
I've noticed 2 things since I had to update my game last night (not sure how old the update is.) This green bar that pops up underneath my perk wave bar that, after only seeing it a few times, doesn't seem to give any clue as to why it's there? Also, unless I've been living under a rock, protectors have significantly less health now. P.S. my in game stats are trash because this was a run I started when I woke up early and then fell back asleep.

Swirl custom paint job in the EU?
Hi!
I'm looking to refin my Jackson Soloist with Ibanez style swirl. This is a special type painting and now I'm wondering who does this kind of paint jobs in the EU? Richard Fay used to do them in the UK but now he's slowing down and not accepting new orders. Any clues? I'm located in Finland, but prepared to ship the guitar inside the EU.
This type of swirl would be perfect. Very vibrant colors, not too hasty swirl with green dominating and only a splash of yellow.

2023.03.25 07:25 BugSprayUser Fear and Staging in Lakeview

“We can’t stop here this is lighting country” our Engine Boss says as we blow past the lake county fairgrounds. “Yeah that’s the point that’s why we’re here” The 50ft tall wooden cowboy proclaiming “the tallest town in Oregon” glares down at us as he does all travelers. He then turns the engine around in a motel parking lot. 3 different helitack crews are already motel’d up and have been for god knows how long. One crew has a flat tire, a trash bag over there passenger rear window, and boxes of La Croix spilling out of there room. With my window rolled down I could hear them belching that sweet flavored, carbonated hydration. We place an order at Burger Queen but after waiting for 45 minutes we get an urgent call.
“The storm is coming get to the office now”
We pull into the compound and we’re met outside by a man who walked up in tattered greens and yellows and a hardhat and never introduced himself. Seeing the burn scars from the Bootleg and all the other fires that have ran through the district recently we wondered what there was to save. The man hands is a map of the district with giant red arrows all pointing at one range. “YA SEE THAT” he barks “That’s the only patch of green timber left on this district that’s where you boys are headed” He then turns around and walks behind a storage container and we never heard from him after that.
We departed the compound and realized there were no USFS or ODF signs anywhere. “Did anyone catch his name” my engine boss asks as we all shake our heads in confusion. My engine boss calls the phone number we got the call from and it went straight to voicemail. The voicemail read “Just put Dr Gonzo on your shift tickets and bring them back to the orange container”. We depart and head into the ponderosa.
As we picked our way through the burn scars I started to forget what green looked like, until we rounded the corner and saw our oasis. A 5 acre green marsh with 4 large ponderosa in it….as-well as a full fire camps worth of resources. Right as we pull in we’re approached by an emancipated chipper operator.
“How much longer do we have here” he cries “Gotta ask Gonzo about that” the security guard we were talking too says before turning to us and saying “contractors am I right” He then points us to our parking area.
It was nearing dinner time but there was no sign of a dinner tent, or any real support tents for that matter. But we assumed they were just getting set up for the storm and a whole camp for staging seemed a little strange. We waited until near sundown and we’re about to bust out some MREs before we hear a distant helicopter coming closer. Then we hear the other resources start cheering, whistling, then running. We decide they must be going somewhere important so we follow. An A-Star appears over the horizon with a sling load of cardboard boxes appears over the horizon. He circles camp once then dumps his load onto the crowd of a few hundred at this point. The boxes slam into the ground and some break open as everyone around us charges them like a Walmart just opened on black Friday. We figured we should do the same so grab a box and a case of gato’s and head back to our rig.
We open it up to find we scored a box of MRE crackers and carrots. “What the hell is going on in this place” our crew member says says. “No clue, this is stranger than any ODF inmate camp I’ve ever found myself in” Responds our engine boss. We eat our dinner and bed down with no sign of a storm.
The next morning we wake up to a radio briefing that told us “The storm is headed up from Yreka and should arrive above you by late afternoon. “Isn’t this the same briefing we got yesterday?” Our first year says to the Engine Boss “Yes it was, Something must be going on here”

It was a fun quarter, let's see how many questions I answered, and how many I asked (I'm worried it'll be heavy in favor of asks).

Posts

  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/10t6531/green_3_mq_6_make_next_gen/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
In this post I was having trouble with cellular automata in quest 3, more specifically make_next_gen(). My problem was fixed by clearing the generation vector every time the function is called.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/10u6ryw/quest_3_mq_6_another_one/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
This post was a similar debugging issue to my first post, but this time I failed the order of operations that would decide if a given ruleset was valid or not.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/10zzzvh/q4_mq_7_node_to_string_help/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I was having trouble with the to_string() method in Quest 4's child-sibling tree. It turns out I was recursing incorrectly, but a quick fix to my if statements passed the test.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/1137wma/practice_midterm_question_2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I had trouble understanding how the byte array data structure in the practice midterm worked. Now I understand that each byte holds a sort of array of bits.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/11991hl/quest_7_constructo?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
In this quest (circular queue), I was getting a false flag that my constructor was not sizing the queue correctly. After some suggestions from Dylan and Tejas, I figured out that my size() method was the actual issue. Interestingly enough, I cleared every other mini-quest once I fixed that single bug.
6.https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/11av1of/where_did_you_learn_about_big_o_time_complexity/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I saw a lot of classmates discussing the Big O time it would take for our data structures to run. I have seen this term in my other CS classes too, so I figured I would open a discussion for where other people learned it, and where I could learn more about it.
7.https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/11lmfqt/quest_8_mq_6_possible_snag/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
This post was about the get_completions() method for our prefix tree or "trie." I was getting flagged that other miniquests were failing, even though I had already passed those past miniquests. Eventually it passed just fine.
8.https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/11mefmn/quest_8_mq_7_trieget_completions/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
This post is very similar to the last one, but I finally got caught. My traverse() method was incorrect, but a hole in the autograder allowed me to pass. After some emails with &, we figured out the issue and he patched the hole.
9.https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/11v8k4h/quest_9_problems_with_mr_sticky/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I had some trouble with the _nodes vector in this purty pitcher quest, and I thought I was sneaking through with incorrect implementation. Turns out this quest just offers a lot of freedom to complete it how you want, and my implementation was totally valid.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/11vs5sl/purty_pitcher_peace/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I made my graph into a frumpy peace sign and a dragonfly face. I thought both were cool and I had fun implementing the modulo operator to make a circle with spokes.

A few of my classmates and I theorized on whether the "hooray!" message means you passed a miniquest in full. Back then I said it does, I still feel that way except for very unique circumstances.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2a/comments/101wn29/comment/j2qq0wk/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Ashley was wondering whether the last few miniquests in Blue 6 were extra credit. Using some evidence from the spec, I confirmed that they are extra credit.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2a/comments/102ceah/comment/j2tabgp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
One student was having trouble passing the blue Jay quest. I simply restated a hint from the spec, making sure to pass variables as arguments rather than hard-coding values.
4.https://www.reddit.com/cs2a/comments/108y1ls/question_about_questing/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Rawi was wondering how to navigate to the password for the next quest, and how to copy code. I gave him a step-by-step guide to finding the password in the test results tab, and assured him that he can highlight code in the future (although this is not true for the later green and red quests, where we get fuzzy photos, but & already corrected me in the comments).
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/10jvvin/quest_2_cache_thoughts/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Tejas asked our thoughts on whether clearing our cache after every disk state was worth it. I was just learning how memory worked at the time, so I went into how we want to free all of our memory or else we may have a memory leak. I now realize that we only have to worry about these leaks when allocating memory on the heap, not in vectors. To answer Tejas's question today, I believe that once we have calculated n+1 for a given disk case, we already have everything we need to calculate any lower disc case, so we can clear the cache and save space without any time penalties.
6.https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/10vvink/comment/j7mi43i/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Arnesh started a conversation on Green 3 cellular automata, claiming that we have achieved statelessness. I said that though we were almost stateless, the client can still input unexpected seeds using make_next_gen(), so we have not completely achieved statelessness.
7.https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/10vw88b/comment/j7mlwfz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Andrew was having some trouble with set_rules() for Green 3, so I suggested he make sure his vectors were sized correctly. Usually when you get thrown an exception it'll be a broken pointer or a segfault, so making sure you are not trying to index an out of bounds vector is a good first step.
  1. https://www.reddit.com/cs2b/comments/11cw075/comment/ja6p266/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Not sure who posted this one because they deleted their account, but they were wondering if they would get marked for bursty progress. I used my experience with a similar situation and suggested they try to space out their submissions as much as possible, but ultimately they should be fine.

Besides that I just had a few comments thanking people for their help and talking with & about submissions.
That's everything. Good luck on the final and in 2C everyone!

2023.03.25 06:21 AnotherZeldaTheorist The Most Important Artbook Page

I believe this picture is the most important part of the leaked artbook.
https://preview.redd.it/142tm1xgwspa1.png?width=1652&format=png&auto=webp&s=63afc2a8e15393fde15d81833d6ce4171658409b
It's easy to miss but holds a ton of information. There are eleven symbols on the walls and written on the floor, and these symbols match up with the giant glyphs we've seen so far. I looked at each one and tried to tease out all the information I could.

1. Palace in Tabantha Frontier

This image is drawn in Tabantha Frontier, almost exactly over Rito village.
https://preview.redd.it/jgpkx7mcyspa1.png?width=64&format=png&auto=webp&s=3d1ca87c9469bd63aaaf4c783c0e932a1f7cc442
It looks like this symbol will be a reason to revisit Rito village and see how it changed. Maybe it has developed and grown or maybe it was devastated by Ganondorf's return.
You can see this symbol in trailers

Perspective 1

Perspective 2
From the looks of it, these symbols show the same drawings from different angles. It's possible that you'll have to position yourself correctly to see the full drawing. It's also possible that the same lines could form different images depending on your perspective. Nintendo hasn't given many hints about the gameplay purpose of these symbols, but it does makes me wonder. Maybe there will be some perspective mechanics.
The artbook has a similar drawing, and it's covered in tears.
https://preview.redd.it/ob39zwae6tpa1.png?width=698&format=png&auto=webp&s=45a4d86ef4312cb6499cdfbaa349b908c2104520
This place looks like a palace and would be a fitting dungeon. Do these symbols turn into the things they depict? Or only give clues to guide the player?

2. Sheikah Slate by Lanayru Sea

This symbol is found to the right of Zora's Domain.
https://preview.redd.it/4to058fpyspa1.png?width=134&format=png&auto=webp&s=032136f481194d8054e1900ecf56bb05566c448d
It looks like a Sheikah Slate, which was a key item in BotW and seems to be a key item in TotK. Canonically, there are several Sheikah Slates, so it makes sense for an ancient slate to be hidden here.

3. Molduga in Tabantha Tundra

This drawing seems like it could be tied to a boss or dungeon.
https://preview.redd.it/7z02raqtyspa1.png?width=118&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc8e6909c7f8895200a293b28c9860bedcec2f52
It's been redesigned though.
https://preview.redd.it/vus6prgkctpa1.png?width=733&format=png&auto=webp&s=bc4ecdb4b8f1381b45bc7d6e3659a724279bd145
This raises the question of how final the position and design of each drawing is. The artbook contains concept art, so we don't know what's final.
https://preview.redd.it/8a24d8qsctpa1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c66db970e99d5fb464d9af36647c8a94f4f0339

4. Man in Trillby Valley (near Death Mountain)

This region had a shrine, some Koroks and not much else
https://preview.redd.it/lblhb9twyspa1.png?width=100&format=png&auto=webp&s=85dd4b1be0cefc403fad5b97e7d1bbfee525a5a9
This man could tie into the narrative as a sage, or possibly one of the reincarnations of Link. It looks like he's placed next to a drawing of a woman, so it would be fitting if this were the ancient hero that sealed Ganondorf. That could tie into gameplay as some quest where you learn the skills of the ancient hero. Or maybe you meet him like in Twilight Princess. That's my best guess.

5. Lady in Tabantha Frontier

This one is also close to Rito villiage, and is near a great fairy shrine and "ancient columns"
https://preview.redd.it/cgctiflzyspa1.png?width=83&format=png&auto=webp&s=76a79ff4a7bb92c1ba9b56599beb1e9acf16497d
The ancient columns location was key to a memory in BotW. What if those columns were from an ancient castle? And this is ancient Zelda?

6. Dagger in Necula

This one is right on the dagger shaped cape in Necula
https://preview.redd.it/24dpwvk2zspa1.png?width=88&format=png&auto=webp&s=472fd4434a20bd477ff6a4689f5deacc4e4e790e
It looks Gerudo to me, which is strange due to the placement. Maybe it will give you a new dagger? Maybe you'll unlock more crafting abilities?

7. Monster in Gerudo Highlands

https://preview.redd.it/9p7t9dw6zspa1.png?width=131&format=png&auto=webp&s=eb7aa94412c2fbfae080292e92a56a086fe56aac
This one's hard to see so I can't say much. But it would be cool if the symbol were redesigned into this

https://preview.redd.it/p3v0d8r4gtpa1.png?width=1250&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5237ecd3ed12111c9f43584bb9c009c18d13ece
These could be some quest involving Ganondorf, possibly before he was sealed. It's interesting to note how many tears are on this drawing. What if these drawing are made by the Zonai, and the tears represent the damage done to their people? Ganondorf did a lot of damage, so he's covered in tears. The Molduga does less damage, so it has fewer tears. Is this a revenge story?

8. Sword between Great Hyrule Forest and Death Mountain

Not far from the Master Sword's location
https://preview.redd.it/x6abb4pazspa1.png?width=76&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f0ed765a9a6a5c5d64f6267d37ffdcccdd0dd3e
If you look closely at the TotK logo, you'll notice this

See the tear?
I don't know if the logo sword is THIS sword, but the style and tears match up. That could mean this drawing is directly related to repairing the master sword and important enough to make the logo.

9. Figure above Hyrule Castle

I don't have much to say about this one, it's so blurry. But it looks like a person.
https://preview.redd.it/vgxujn2ezspa1.png?width=80&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba33b843296cb230adc3d727121326e1fcce027f
It might be this image in the grass? Hard to tell.
https://preview.redd.it/lrctmqtibtpa1.png?width=1900&format=png&auto=webp&s=8506e76e38ddcefab35c90d24fc8f28dd70dfb84

10. Bell in Hyrule Field

This symbols is not shown on the wall, but you can spot it drawn on the map. To me it looks like a bell drawn above a circle of stones.
https://preview.redd.it/gfitlzi12tpa1.png?width=53&format=png&auto=webp&s=468c0d097c8bf493b7034f5eee68cd349dffaa37

11. Symbol in West Necula

I have no clue what this is. It's bigger than most symbols, and kind of bulbous.
https://preview.redd.it/6cfloq2u2tpa1.png?width=64&format=png&auto=webp&s=1809371729a5b0d5320573d5053a5ae74f7ea41a

What are they for?

After looking over them, I still have no clue. They're a mix of monsters, people, weapons, and places. It's also odd because 11 is a strange number. Are there 11 dungeons? Or 7/4 dungeons and the rest are side quests? And what happens when you visit all of them?

They're glowing green with Zonai magic, and only show up after the islands appeared and, presumably, the sky barrier broke. They could be connected to a past Hyrule or to the past of the Zonai race. Maybe they're connected to the cycle of reincarnation through the series. I'm excited to figure out!

2023.03.25 05:38 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Minigames: What New Additions Could We See?

There are a lot of possibilities for new minigames in GTA 6, given the creativity and variety that the franchise has demonstrated in the past. Here are some ideas:
Arcade games: Perhaps players could visit arcades in the game world and play classic arcade games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, or Street Fighter. These could be fully playable games within the game, with leaderboards and prizes for high scores.
Casino games: GTA 5 already had a fully-realized casino, but GTA 6 could expand on this with more games like craps, roulette, or baccarat. These games could be played for in-game currency, with high-stakes games available for the most daring players.
Sports: GTA 5 had a few sports minigames like golf and tennis, but GTA 6 could expand on this with more sports like basketball, baseball, or football. These could be played against other players online, with prizes for the winners.
Board games: Players could visit coffee shops or bars in the game world and play board games like chess, checkers, or backgammon. These games could be fully interactive, with the pieces moving around the board in real-time.
Puzzle games: There are plenty of puzzle games that could be integrated into the world of GTA, like Sudoku, crossword puzzles, or jigsaw puzzles. These could be found in newspapers or magazines within the game world, and completed puzzles could unlock rewards like hidden vehicles or weapons.
Virtual reality games: With the recent release of VR headsets like the Oculus Quest, GTA 6 could incorporate virtual reality minigames like shooting galleries, puzzle rooms, or horror experiences. These would be fully immersive and could provide a break from the main game.
These are just a few ideas for new minigames in GTA 6, but the possibilities are endless. The franchise has always been known for its attention to detail and variety, so players can likely expect a wide range of activities to keep them occupied in the game world.

2023.03.25 05:01 Harbinger_51 I do a job for the government none of you know about. You should.

It was a beautiful day in the fall, and though being in the middle of nowhere in Ohio isn’t exactly my ideal setting for an assignment, it could have been worse. Opening my windows, listening to music, and getting a good whiff of country air is a nice contrast to being cooped up in cities like I’m used to. The sight of brown stalks of corn populating the miles of fields along the road was welcome, as was the cool and clean smell of the air. It’s a good thing these jobs don’t involve much interaction with people. Unfortunately, some level of interaction is inevitable.

On my way to this one, I got a speeding ticket from a cop at some little local department. Though I was, in fact, speeding, I got the feeling that he also didn’t so much like seeing a fed in his neck of the woods. The local police aren’t a fan of us, so I’ve come to learn. They tend to get suspicious of us, thinking we’re up to some top-secret mission behind their backs. I guess they would be right.

I kept driving down the gravel road until the navigation let me know my destination was coming up on the right. Turning down the radio as I approached, I glanced toward the empty fields and the woods that met them beyond. I then turned into the long dirt driveway leading to our civilians’ house and garage.

I rolled up and parked with my trunk facing the porch. Stepping out, I got another whiff of the fresh country air and looked at the area of operations that lay before me. I was surprised at the amount of land and space that I had at my disposal. Space is good for these jobs. Additionally, I was informed that there weren’t any neighbors close enough to worry about. I couldn’t have asked for a better setting.

After stretching and letting out a light sigh, I decided it was time to get to work. I pulled the keychain out of my pocket and unlocked the front door. It seemed like a nice enough place. It was certainly nothing worth complaining about given the conditions of houses I’ve faced in my previous assignments. I went back outside to my massive, government-issued vehicle and opened the trunk.

I pulled the first couple of duffel bags worth of equipment out and brought them inside. The kitchen was as good a place as any to set up. After making five or six trips of dragging heavy bags and boxes of my junk into the house, I went back outside to open the garage. Thank God we were able to catch this case early and the civilians were able to make it out in time. It also meant I got room in the garage to park this thing. All that remained in the truck was the large metallic box, but I wasn’t going to need that until later.

I shut the trunk and pulled my vehicle into the garage, closing it on my way out. I stepped back into the house where I changed from my suit to my gear. Wearing the suit all day annoys me but I suppose the higher-ups want us to look like good, “friendly” feds to the public. The public has no idea the kind of monsters we are.

I unpacked box after box of equipment and weapons. I loaded up my Glock 17 with its extended 30-round magazine just as I did with my standard .556 rifle. I checked the laser sights on both. All good. Next was my favorite, the.338 with the best scope you could ever ask for. It sure is nice having a virtually infinite budget. Perks of working for the US federal government I suppose. The final firearm I brought was my personal .357 magnum revolver that I kept holstered on my chest. I figure it’s never a bad idea to have one more gun, just in case. Maybe I should have brought more on this one. If things got too close, I always had my hunting knife. I sharpened it that morning before heading out.

The next few hours consisted of me going out into the woods near the house in various places and setting up dozens of my little cameras equipped with motion sensors. They were there to give me an idea of the location of anything that got brave enough to get close to the fields that surrounded the house, I would be able to know about anything that was coming to me. I didn’t take too much caution in setting them up. Things never get interesting until nightfall.

I returned to the house where I turned on my laptop and assured that all the cameras were connected and working. I could see every single one of them from there and would know if anything so much as moved. I then got situated on a chair by the kitchen table, where I opened the window and set up my .338 rifle to watch the fields with.

I suppose it would be worth mentioning why I’m out here, setting up fancy equipment in the woods and loading up an arsenal of guns while I’m alone in a farmhouse that isn’t mine. Let’s back it up.

March 1st, 2017, 3:33 am, Iowa

Dispatch gets a call from a local farmer. He claims to be looking at a figure standing still at the edge of a treeline on his property. The description given by the farmer was that of a man of average stature and build, clothed in a loose black or grey shirt and trousers and a large-brimmed hat.

The farmer tells dispatch that he had awoken abruptly roughly an hour earlier, unspecified as to why. He spotted the figure outside his kitchen window soon after. The figure had been standing near the edge of a row of trees. It was facing the house and hadn’t moved a muscle since the farmer noticed him. The farmer quickly retrieved his rifle and walked out onto his lawn, proceeding to brandish his firearm and tell the trespasser that this property was his and to leave immediately. The farmer, seeing that the man remained unthreatened by his warning and display of a firearm, retreaded back into his home to retrieve his phone and call 9-1-1 as he continued to watch the figure from his porch.

During this call, the farmer’s voice was noticeably nervous and frightened. The desperate tone and quivering speech continued to worsen as he went on explaining the situation to dispatch. Dispatch instructed the farmer to remain where he stood and not to approach the trespasser. Dispatch reassured the farmer that the police were on their way. A few quiet and uneventful minutes passed. Then, without warning, the farmer let out a horrified scream through the phone. The call was disconnected seconds later.

The police began their over 40-minute drive to the residence. Halfway to their arrival, multiple new calls were coming to dispatch from the farmer’s neighbors. They reported seeing a large stack of smoke coming from the farmer’s home, and the closest reported seeing the house on fire.

By the time police arrived, the house had burned to the ground. The fire department arrived shortly after but oddly enough, the fire had completely subsided. What remained was the charred crumbs of what was once a house. The firefighters that arrived on site were bewildered by how quickly the fire must have burned the house. There was no explanation they could fathom.

The police searched the nearby fields and woods for the farmer and alleged trespasser to no avail, however, their search was quickly called back upon the findings of the firefighters in the house. The man’s charred bones were found beneath the rubble but not as they should have been. It became clear after further investigation that the man’s limbs were ripped from his body before it was incinerated at an impossible speed. 4 .308 bullet casings were found where the porch of the house used to be. The rifle was found just outside of the house, unscathed despite its proximity to such a violent fire. Forensics confirmed that the rifle had fired these casings but the bullets themselves were never found.

This was the first, but far from the last.

Dispatch gets a call from a rancher who spotted a woman in an old-fashioned black and white dress and wearing a linen cap. The rancher claimed the woman was standing amongst his cattle and not moving. The rancher expressed no panic or concern for his safety over the phone, but rather a concern for the woman in the field. The rancher also noted that his cattle kept their distance around the woman.

An ambulance arrived at 11:29. Paramedics found no trace of the alleged woman. They walked to the entrance of the rancher’s house and discovered his door to be unlocked and open. After calling for the rancher and getting no response, they stepped inside to be greeted by the corpse of the rancher, hanging from a noose in his stairwell. The man had no history of mental illness and none of his relatives or acquaintances had any reason to believe he was suicidal. Additionally, an autopsy report concluded that both arms were broken in multiple places as well as every finger as if they had been crumpled together by a great force. He could not have tied the noose himself.

November 29th, 2018, 2:06 am, Wisconsin

Dispatch gets a call from another farmer. He had spotted a woman in an old black and white dress and linen cap. The woman had been standing in the long driveway from the road to his house, lit by the lamp that covered it. She stood motionless in the cold, windy, and heavily snowing weather. The farmer and his wife were later found under a collapsed wall of their crumpled house with stones placed on top. They had been placed in a seemingly orderly fashion until there was enough weight to crush their bones.

This happens to be the first incident we have on record with photo evidence. A trail cam owned by the farmer and his wife a few acres away from the house caught a picture the night of the incident. It caught a picture of the woman exactly as the farmer had described. Black and white dress, white linen camp. It looked as though she had stepped through time from hundreds of years before and placed like a mannequin in front of the camera.

January 4th, 2020, South Dakota

I could go on but the point is that these incidents have been happening more and more frequently and they aren’t stopping. We do know what they are, or at least what they’re supposed to represent to us.

Every single one of these “people” lived in North America during the witch trials. We don’t believe they were the ones who were executed. We believe they were the ones who made the accusations, the ones who got their neighbors killed, the ones who carried out the executions and now they’re back to kill again.

Luckily, my department picked up on these patterns early on and designated a team to deal with them. There are a few hundred of us. I am in the dark about what everyone does exactly. I haven’t met many but I do know that some find potential incidents, some investigate, some deal with the cover-up and handling the publicity, and then, of course, there are the ones you send in to eradicate the problem. That’s where I come in.

I am here to hunt them down, to put them back in their graves so it would seem. Sometimes I get here before they’ve claimed a victim, sometimes after. But their reign of terror comes to an end with me. They’ve never gotten away from me, and I have never failed an assignment. I didn’t plan on this night being any different.

A beep sounded from my laptop screen as an outline from one of the cameras lit up, indicating that the motion sensor detected movement. It had been quiet since I set it up, there was not even the slightest sign of wildlife. No deer, no squirrels, nothing. I leaned forward and intently examined the camera that had been triggered. There was nothing to see. Another sensor triggered. Again, the camera showed nothing. My eyes darted from camera to camera, looking for motion. Another camera triggered, though all that I caught sight of was a shaking tree branch. There was no wind today. Another. This time I saw it. A dog-looking figure darted across the camera in only a few frames, but I knew it was no dog.

I turned my attention from the cameras to the field in front of me, where the movement had come from. I got behind my rifle and looked down the scope to the treeline in the distance. My heart began to pound in my chest at an intense tempo.

I could feel the adrenaline kicking in while I scanned the edge of the field for movement. All that greeted me was the orange glint of the setting sun on the treeline and the tiny shadows of the little stumps of corn stalks in the otherwise empty field. It was silent. Not even a wind accompanied me this evening, though I can’t complain. It’s better for shooting.

For a few minutes, I continued to run my scope along the treeline, occasionally getting a peek with my own eyes. It was during one of these peeks when I noticed a color out of place, in between a couple of trees on the other side of the field—some sort of black-and-white spec that was there not a second before. I lowered my head down, back behind the scope, and centered it. As I steadied the scope, a man-like figure standing at the edge of the field came into focus.

It wore black, tattered rags of clothing that hung loosely on its rigid frame. It stood still, stiff as a board. Its eyes were fixed on something ahead of it. It took me a moment to realize it was focused on me. It didn’t move a muscle, not even blinking as it stared.

I came to my senses and prepared to do my job. I flipped the safety off of my rifle and centered my crosshairs on its chest. I began to breathe deeply, my finger on the trigger, ready to pull but I didn’t take the shot, not yet. I saw it start to move.

Even with the distance between us, my scope made the picture of this figure clear as day. The movement came from only one part of its body; its mouth. First, its crusty lips detached from one another and the mouth began to open. Steadily, it opened more, and more all the while the rest of its body and head remained fixed. Its jaw sank to what should have been all the more it could, but it didn’t stop. It fell further, dipping down below its chest, its skin like a stretched rubber band waiting to snap, though it didn’t, it kept stretching.

Still stiff as a board, the man-like thing remained with its eyes locked on me while its mouth sat open, impossibly wide. It stood still with its hanging jaw for a moment, a moment I shouldn’t have given it. Now I knew I had my target. I began to apply pressure to the trigger before I was stopped, shaken by a force.

A scream, like a choir of souls in despair being dragged off to hell, with the power of a thousand horns sounding the start of a medieval battle rung through the fields. Its volume caused flocks of birds in the nearby trees to fly away in a panic, its bass shuddered through my chest and left me too hypnotized to pull the trigger. I’ll never get used to hearing one of them scream.

“Here we go”

I muttered to myself, the only thought I could conjure from my brain at the moment.

Closing its mouth, it leaped forward and reached for the ground in front of it with its hands fixed like claws. As soon as they met the ground, the feet followed and planted themselves quickly so that it could boost itself forward once again. It had begun its terrible charge. All the while, its face remained fixed on me, rotting teeth exposed and clenched in rage. The speed at which it rushed across the empty field would make a deer running for its life look lazy in comparison, but I was the prey here.

Though my heart began to race at the sight of this abomination barreling toward me, this anomaly of hatred and hunger bound to flesh, I remained calm. I began to steady my breathing, taking control of each breath, in and out.

Inhale. Exhale.

Inhale. Exhale.

Inhale. Exhale.

Squeeze.

The crack of the shot rang out through the dimming sky and the field before me, my response to its enraged scream. I remained fixed on the target, observing the spatter of blood as it shot from its back. It began to scream again, this time rapidly and desperate in tone. I quickly moved the bolt and chambered the next round, accompanied by the soft ring of the brass bouncing on the floorboards under my chair.

Although I managed to land a clean shot to the chest, it didn’t do much. It kept running, keeping on at its same speed. Though now it changed its direction and was running adjacent to my position in the house. It was trying to flank me. It wanted to find a way around my line of sight. I couldn’t let it.

Again, I took control of my breathing. Slowly, I drifted my rifle on the bipod until the creature came back into view. Its limbs pounded at the ground with speed and power as it propelled itself across the field. I’ll never get used to seeing one run either.

Starting behind it, I continued to move the scope, just fast enough to begin gaining on him, just fast enough to let the crosshairs catch up. Inhale. Exhale. The crosshairs slowly began to overtake it. Inhale. Exhale. Squeeze.

I chambered the next round quickly. This shot brought him to the ground, but it didn’t keep him there. After a short tumble, it rose and began to run again, this time back towards the woods it came from. Inhale. Exhale. Squeeze.

The third shot grazed its back. Frustrated, I chambered another round and took aim, but it was far too late. Before I could even begin to line up my fourth shot, it had taken one final leap from the field back into the treeline it came from.

I let out a sigh and hung my head in disappointment. I knew what I had to do next but I sure as hell didn’t want to. The last flickers of sunlight shone through the open window and lit my .338 rifle as I reloaded the magazine. I sat and stared blankly at the screen in front of me, hoping a camera would pick up some sort of movement that could clue me into wherever it ran off to. Knowing my luck, I shouldn’t have expected it to.

After coming to terms with reality, I stood up and grabbed my .556, slinging it around my body and letting it hang in front of me. I aimed it down, looking through its sight and testing its laser again before checking the chamber. Good to go. Next, I adjusted the night vision set to my head before picking up my .338 and heading for the door. As I stepped outside, I let out another sigh, this one of stress. Hunting these things at night, on their own turf is never as fun, nor as easy as finishing them quickly from a distance but what choice did I have? I just wanted to get it over with.

I flipped down my goggles and switched them on, illuminating the dark field in green and white. I began my long walk across. It took me longer than expected. The speed of that monstrosity caused me to underestimate the size of the field. Each step I took was slow and quiet. I didn’t want the crunch of my feet meeting the dirt and remnants of corn stalks to disturb my hearing. If that thing made a noise, I needed to hear it. If only I could have quieted my incessant heavy, nervous breathing too.

I was not even halfway to the treeline when I reached the first pool of blood, where I had shot it for the second time, and it decided to retreat. Bits of flesh were scattered about the ground, but I didn’t care to stop and look. Instead, I focussed on the blood I could see that led back into the woods.

Any experienced hunter has had to track a deer or two. It can be very frustrating. The trail isn’t always so clear, and you never know how far it has gotten. In my case, I knew this thing was still alive, and it was angry.

I continued my walk, splitting my attention between the blood trail on the ground and the treeline in front of me, scanning for movement and listening. If I was lucky enough, it would have gotten bold and tried to take me down in the field. Unfortunately, I’m not so lucky. Silently, I followed the trail until it met the woods. I stopped walking and calmed myself.

I didn’t want to go past those damn trees, but there was no avoiding it. I had a job to do. I extended the bipod of my .338 and lowered it to the ground before raising the stock of my other rifle to my shoulder. I took a deep breath and resumed my walk, now even slower and more cautious. At least now my heavy breathing would be drowned out by the sound of snapping twigs beneath my feet.

Immediately upon entering the woods, I spotted the next sight of blood. It came from a tree branch, its leaves covered in the dripping crimson liquid. I walked up to observe, only to notice more blood on the branch above that one. And the next. I noticed the pattern and followed each branch up, one by one, each with its leaves covered in blood. Suddenly a mass moved on top of the tree next to the one I was looking up at.

I swung my rifle up, pointing above me at the top of the trees. The mass turned and into view came two glowing eyes, like white lights in my night vision. It opened its mouth again to let out another deafening scream but I raised my rifle and took aim. Its scream was cut short by a bang from my barrel and the thud of the rounds meeting flesh. I was only able to squeeze half a dozen rounds off before it leaped away, to the tops of the neighboring trees.

I kept shooting as it jumped from one tree to another, though within seconds it was out of my line of sight. I charged through the woods after it and watched it leap impossible distances, shaking trees so hard I thought some might snap. All the while I kept trying and failing, to line up a clean shot. The ones I did manage to squeeze off were either misses or ineffective.

Even at the full-on sprint that I managed to sustain for a good few minutes, I was barely able to keep up. I almost abandoned the chase entirely before I saw an opportunity. There was a clearing ahead. A trail. The distance across was far too wide for it to jump. It took a sharp right once it realized this and began jumping from tree to tree along the trail. I rushed into the opening before kneeling to line up a shot. I followed it with my sights, tracking the timing of each leap, and letting t it land and leap once more before it settled on a new tree. I shot off two more rounds as it braced to leap again.

They were perfectly placed and its body tumbled in the air and crashed violently to the ground. Having lined up my sight, I squeezed the trigger again to hear the absence of a gunshot, replaced by the click of the firing pin in the empty chamber. I screamed curses at myself as I quickly exchanged magazines. By the time I looked up, the body was already gone.

I got to my feet and continued down the trail at a jog-like pace with my rifle at the ready. I was beginning to get frustrated more than anything. I’ve put dozens of these things in the ground before, I didn’t understand why was I having such a hard time with this one. As I approached a curve in the trail, I slowed my pace and brought the stock of my rifle back to my shoulder. I approached the curve from the outside of the trail, trying to get a clear view of what was beyond when my head violently snapped to the left.

My vision went suddenly dark and it took me a few moments to realize that I wasn't dead, nor was I unconscious. Something hit my night vision goggles and knocked them clear off of my head, breaking the mount they sat on. My eyes were only beginning to adapt to the dark when another object came flying towards my head, narrowly missing as it whistled forcefully past my ear. It was a rock, around the size of a football. I couldn’t help but glance behind me in astonishment at the object that had nearly decapitated me before turning my attention back to what threw it.

Sure enough, there it was. Standing behind the trees at the corner of the path. I let my anger take control and began to fire rapidly at its torso. My disregard for accuracy hardly mattered at this range. Regrettably, it meant I was now closer than I would have liked and it began to charge. I landed shot after shot. Blood spurted from its back and painted the tree branches and leaves that it passed as it barreled toward me.

Again, my magazine went empty. Instead of bothering to reload a new one, I quickly drew my Glock and continued my rapid fire on the beast. It broke into the clearing and fell to all fours before it leaped forward and ran as it had done in the field. It closed the distance between us in seconds.

A hand clenched around my throat and I was lifted off of the ground like a feather. It kept running, past the edge of the clearing and carrying me into the woods. I continued to pepper it at point-blank range with my pistol. Between shots, I could hear its hysterical laughter directed at my futile efforts. Its face smiled with a look of sadistic insanity.

I continued shooting until my magazine went dry and I was stuck with an empty gun. With nothing else I could do, I began to beat its face with the empty pistol. This seemed to piss it off. It violently threw me through the air. I felt my body snap dozens of branches before I met the ground and rolled uncontrollably.

Recovering quickly, I grasped the rifle still slung around me and replaced the empty magazine with a new one. It was mere feet away from me when I started to fire. I got a few shots off before it grabbed my arm. This time I whipped the barrel of my rifle up, clubbing it hard across the face. It let out a short, irritated scream. I thrust my barrel at the top of its head, knocking it back as it emitted another angry grunt. It reached up with its left arm and tried to grab the barrel before half of its fingers were blown off by my next shot. It recoiled its arm in pain before swinging it back at me.

Upon contact, my rifle flew out of my hands and the sling came undone from my body as it was thrown far into the woods behind me. I attempted to retreat before he grabbed me with his right hand, and what remained of his left around my neck. Again, I was picked up and it carried me, this time only a short distance to a tree. My back cracked as I was slammed into the bark.

It looked up at me and smiled again.

“We killed our sinners, we brought justice to our land. We brought justice for God”

I ignored its foul speech, lifting an arm and hooking it across the face with a firm punch. It had no effect.

“You are all sinners, and you will die for your sins as they did”

Again, I struggled and pummeled its face with everything I could muster but it still did nothing.

“Now go and burn in the lake of fire”

It shouted, before laughing with a dozen sadistic voices all coming from its mouth.

It opened its mouth and its jaw was once again stretched to what should be an impossible level. It lowered me until I was level with it. It moved its open mouth toward my head, shaking with rage. Its teeth now inches from my face. Its breath, foul. With my left arm, I drew my knife, slashing it across the chest before plunging it into its neck. I hooked a punch with my right arm that finally caused it to stumble. It wound up its own punch and let it loose. I narrowly escaped, ducking out of the way before its fist met the tree and went right through, splitting it in half before the wood tumbled to the ground.

I took this opportunity to draw my .357. He recovered from its punch and faced me, pulling the knife from its neck and letting blood spurt and gush. It stared me down as it slowly approached, ready to deliver its finishing blow.

Its head was shaking now, harder than ever in anger, its mouth hung open to half its capacity where it showed its rows of rotting human teeth. I raised my revolver and attempted to steady my sights but I was too shaky. I quickly collected myself. Inhale. Exhale. The front sight became level with the rear. Squeeze.

The recoil caused the gun to rise enough for me to get a look at the damage. I clipped its mouth, in the corner of its jaw. It hung open, with one side detached completely. It wailed in pain as it gargled its blood and crumbled to the ground. I aimed again, cocking the hammer. Squeeze. With the second round, I detached its jaw completely.

“Let’s see you bite me now, fucker”

I painfully muttered with anger. It dropped my knife and was now laying flat on its back, breathing heavily. I approached, cocking the revolver again as I did. It reached out with its mangled hand but I kicked it away before placing my barrel to its skull. Squeeze. And then silence.

After dragging the body back to the field, I spent the next few hours retrieving my lost and damaged equipment, as well as tediously finding every one of my cameras. I then retrieved my vehicle and drove it to the edge of the field. There was just one more thing to do.

I opened my trunk and pulled out the metallic box. I don’t understand why they make these things so goddamn heavy. I opened it and placed the corpse inside before securing the extremely heavy-duty lock. Next was the hole. It wasn’t easy digging after I had been roughed up and tossed around by an undead religious maniac with superhuman strength, but at least this was the last thing I had to do.

I finished digging the hole, placed the metal casket inside, and covered it up. From there, I collected my equipment, packed it up, and took off. Supposedly there’s a cleanup crew that comes in after we’re done with these missions and destroys any bizarre evidence.

I suspect they take the body as well. Where do they take it? What do they do with it? I have no clue but I’ve been strictly reminded to not ask questions on the matter and to just stick to doing my job. Still, I always find myself wondering.

What I have even more questions about is why these things exist in the first place. What the hell is going on? Why them? Why now? Has this been going on for longer than I know? Am I being lied to? What happens next, in the future, if this keeps going on? It’s only been getting worse. They’ve only been popping up more and more frequently. When does it end? Does it end?

I have more questions than I do answers but what I can tell you is that this problem isn’t going away anytime soon. It’s only going to get worse. There are only going to be more of them, not less. The death toll will only continue to rise. People are going to find out sooner or later. It might as well be now. Maybe we will stop them. Maybe this will all come to an end one day, or maybe we are the ones who are all going to meet our end. Either way, I’ll be there to see it.

2023.03.25 04:51 deaconblus Import on iPhones

Is it ever going to be possible to import tracks without "leaving your phone on and the Lock Screen disabled"? I travel a fair amount and this drives me absolutely bonkers. Why can we not import tracks in the background? While using other apps? The Hi-Res tracks are BIG! I'd like to read some news, do a crossword puzzle, etc!

2023.03.25 04:24 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Minigames: What New Additions Could We See?

2023.03.25 04:12 Butter_Passer_Robot Get Lucky

Localised: Lucky Hour
User: Ace Spadelle
Manifestation: Does not manifest typically. Ace's irises (the coloured bit of the eye) are always pale green, and slightly glowing, with similar brightness to glow-in-the-dark toys. Non-stand users see the colour, though only stand users can see the glow.
Ability: Ace can choose the outcome of any probability based event within about 7m of him.
Examples of use: ● Ace has shuffled a deck of playing cards, hoping to play Blackjack with his friend and 2 strangers. Ace and his friend each got a king and an ace, while the strangers each got a 2 and a 3. No sleight-of-hand was used. ● Ace is in a pitch dark room. He has no idea how big the room is, what shape it is or what else is in there with him. He takes 3 steps forward, and he has arrived at the unlocked exit. ● Ace's friend is listening to music. Ace cannot hear it, and receives no clues as to what is playing, or when. He correctly guesses 10 songs in a row, exactly 1 second before they start to play.
Namesakes: Get Lucky (song by the Weeknd), Ace of Spades (song by Motörhead)
Trivia: ● Ace's natural eye colour is sky blue. ● Ace unlocked Get Lucky through a green bolt of lightning. The strike knocked him out, and he fell down a grassy hill and onto a highway. He reached the road just as a storm of cars had passed. He was found by an officer 5 minutes later. ● Ace's real name is Stephen. He changed it after realising luck only ever existed when he wanted it to.

2023.03.25 03:25 PapaSameir INTP Gamers, what’s your favorite games to play?

I like a mix of multiplayer games and single player games like Call of Duty, Rainbow Six Siege, The Persona Series, and God of War. From what i hear from other INTPs, they like strategy games and single player games. i’m not that great at strategy games because it takes too much thinking i get overwhelmed. but i’m almost an expert in word games like crossword puzzles and anagrams. I’d like to hear what you guys have to say about games. If i’m just the odd one out or something.

2023.03.25 02:57 No_Astronaut566 Random Game Reviews #1: Sonic Frontiers

Sonic Frontiers was released in 2022 and is a high-speed platformer action game developed by Sonic Team. The story revolves around Sonic and his friends becoming stranded on the Starfall Islands and having to yet again battle a new threat.

I hated a lot about this game, as a longtime Sonic fan it hurts my heart just to see how far the franchise has fallen. I haven’t enjoyed a single piece of Sonic media since Sonic Mania and the first Sonic movie, and unfortunately I don’t think I ever will again after playing this. Let’s start off with the worst part of the game, Cyberspace. Ever since the success of Sonic Generations, this franchise has had an unfortunate track-record of reusing old levels for the sake of nostalgia baiting their fans. And cyberspace is where it was at its worst, the level design is HORRIBLE, it makes Sonic Force’s levels look like something out of Unleashed or Generations. They all are too short, with recycled level layouts and constant automated platforming, which means that half the time you aren’t even playing the level, you’re just watching Sonic do almost everything by himself. And out of the 30 stages in the game there is only 4 possible themes for them! With the amount of stages there are we could have gotten more themes to make the levels unique and stand out. But all you’re gonna see is just Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, and a city. I would have loved to see locations like Planet Wisp, or even newer ones like Studioplois return in this game. And don’t tell me that “the stages are made of Sonic’s memories which is why the layouts are reused and they all are themed after older levels”. I don’t care if that’s true or not, I still refuse to believe that this isn’t nostalgia baiting.

Secondly, the combat and overall difficulty. When I first saw the gameplay trailer for this game, the thing I liked the most was the combat. I expected it to be really fun and unique for a Sonic game, but dear god I was wrong. While its most definitely unique for a Sonic game, combat in this game is nothing but endless button mashing, there's no strategy, no other ways to approach enemies, its just shameless button mashing. I've been a longtime fan of The Force Unleashed and Devil May Cry games, so if there's one thing I know, it's that if it's an action game you got, it has to be easy to learn, but hard to actually play. What also makes the combat horrible is the parry ability. It's too overpowered, almost NOTHING will hit you as long as you're quick. Speaking of things hitting you, all of this and the fact that taking damage only makes you lose a few rings really tones down the difficulty, no matter what it is set to. Losing rings isn't like the other games where you lose all of them, you only lose about 40, and usually you have so many rings to a point that it will take a very long time to run out, and you can just always go out and collect more or upgrade your capacity. Outside of acting as your health, rings have no other use..

My third and final complaint is the Open Zones. They all are bland, boring, and offer nothing to do outside of puzzles. I swear the Open Zones in this game feel like default worlds in most game engines, to make things worse they literally just gave up near the end of the game and just recycled the first island for the final two. It would have been nice to see a snowy or sky themed island, but all we get is just grasslands again two times in a row. Exploring these zones are a pain in the ass mainly because doing so is an absolute snooze fest, the only things you can do are find rock dudes or do puzzles. Keep this in mind, none of those things are fun what so ever. It would have been nice to have npcs with side quests or literally anything more than what we got. Sure the islands meant to be an abandoned one, long devoid of any life outside of the Koco, but maybe there could be something like robots left behind by the ancient civilization, or even some of Eggman's robots because he did have some with him when he went to the island so it would make sense.

With the negatives out of the way, lets list the positives. The soundtrack as always is great, but this game is where it is at it's peak, I would HIGHLY advise you listen for yourself if you haven't already. Secondly, the Titan fights, this was the only moment in the game where fighting anything was enjoyable, what surprises me the most is that it took them 30 whole years to come up with boss battles like these. Unlike in past Sonic games where the Super Sonic bosses come once and only at the end, they are all throughout the game and they are all a blast to play, with the only letdowns being Supreme and The End. I do wish that regular form Sonic in this game had boss battles as good as these. Finally the story, choosing Ian Flynn as the writer was one of the best decisions Sonic Team made for this game. Mainly because it is one of the best parts of the game. Even though I would advise against playing this game, I'm not gonna spoil anything for you, just go look up a recap on YouTube or something.

In conclusion, Sonic Frontiers had a lot of potential to be one of the greatest Sonic games, heck even the greatest platformer game of all time. But it is far from that and needs significant improvements. I don't get the hype for this game, or why people enjoy even playing it, I feel almost as if fans of the series grew so tired of having such shit games that they have to start pretending to love things like Team Sonic Racing or freaking Sonic Prime...

Overall 5.1/10 (Mediocre)

2023.03.25 02:17 JNewsted1988 Sonic '06: My Take - Part 4/FINALE (Last Story)

We've finally made it... at last, we're on the Last Story. All 3 hedgehogs have had their stories lead up to this. How will it all end? Well, we're about to find out! Let us begin:
Somewhere in Soleanna's forest, Mephiles manages to get his hands on the purple Chaos Emerald, one which we haven't seen throughout this game. He finds Elise and Sonic walking through the field, and using the blinding power of the gem, comes up from behind the two when they least expect it, and (yes, I'm using language here, NO SHAME)... FUCKING KILLS SONIC by launching a beam of energy straight through his chest. Distraught by this, Elise manages to cry, unsealing Iblis after all these years. With the two halves of Solaris now freed, Mephiles calls on the Chaos Emerald he has to unite them together.
Meanwhile, in Dusty Desert, Team Dark is surrounded by a puddle of dark liquid from the army of Mephiles clones they took down at the end of Shadow's story. As he picks up and puts his Inhibitor Rings back on, the green and yellow Chaos Emeralds that were resting on the ground begin to glow, and the screen cuts to black. The next cutscene dramatically plays out, with Mephiles having all 7 Chaos Emeralds surrounding him (which I have NO clue where he got the blue and red ones from), and the two halves of Solaris finally coming together. A bright flash of light engulfs the entirety of Soleanna, where Amy, Tails, and Knuckles currently are.
Now in an endless void, all of the characters are found to be together, even Silver and Dr. Eggman have somehow appeared. Trying to figure out what was going on, Shadow and the others piece together the clues that Solaris has finally been reborn, but how is that possible? They then turn to see the dead body of Sonic resting against Princess Elise, realizing that this was all part of Mephiles' plan so she'd cry, and that EVERYONE, including Dr. Eggman, were played like cards in his hand.
As Amy mourns over the loss of the beloved blue hero, the princess senses Sonic's spirit in the wind, knowing that he's not dead yet, and that there's still time. Silver then comes up with the idea that he can be revived using the Chaos Emeralds' power, believing in the princess that she can bring him back. Dr. Eggman then analyzes where the fabled gems have gone, noting that Solaris scattered them all across time, and that the crew has to split up. Firm on their resolution, the group splits up, each setting out across the void to find them before it's too late.
And now it's time for... the End of the World. This final stage brings all 7 remaining characters - Tails, Omega, Knuckles, Silver, Rouge, Amy, and Shadow - on their quest to find the Chaos Emeralds before reality is destroyed by Solaris. This massive adventure split up into 7 sections, the first being with Tails in Crisis City as he searches for the yellow Emerald. His section plays out similar to Silver's level, with one major difference that can be considered the "gimmick" of this level.
Across all 7 portions of the stage, you'll come across these holes - called the "Eyes of Solaris" - that try to suck you in or toss objects at you. I really do like this idea as I think it's like Solaris' way of stopping you as you make your way towards each of the Chaos Emeralds, and one hit INSTANTLY kills you, even if you have Rings. You can briefly make them go away by touching a statue that lights up an orb, but it isn't long before they come back again. What I DON'T like, though? Well, that's coming up in a bit.
After Tails gets the yellow Emerald, the perspective switches to Omega, who's located in Flame Core as he's searching for the green Emerald. Again, it's mostly the same as before, and I believe you're in... I wanna say it's probably Shadow's part of the stage, but really, I have no idea since I feel like all the characters can share the same damn level at times like with White Acropolis, so I don't know which part you're exactly playing through. Anyways, Omega's hover ability will really come in handy here, as you can use it to skip most enemies (which is DEFINITELY recommended since time is literally of the essence here to save Sonic). Make your way up the lava-fall and grab the green Chaos Emerald and get the heck outta there!
The 3rd part of the stage takes place in Rouge's and Silver's Tropical Jungle level, only this time you're controlling Knuckles. Once again, you'll want to take the same approach as you did in Tails' and Omega's sections and not worry about combat and instead trying to find the cyan Emerald that's hidden somewhere here. Use the gliding ability that Knuckles has to land on certain platforms and you can skip basically the entire section. You may have to do some climbing on walls to glide to where the Emerald is, but other than that, his section should be a breeze. Grab that gem and GO!
I should also mention that the Eyes you come across can also suck in enemies and nearby objects, which can be incredibly helpful and harmful at the same time when you're trying to make it through the stage as quickly as possible. I do like how not even Iblis' monsters themselves are not safe from the wrath of Solaris, so it's like EVERYTHING is trying to stop you from making it to the end. But they won't stop the hope to revive Sonic!
Keeping on with the stage, the 4th section has Silver navigating through Sonic's portion of Dusty Desert, using his psychokinesis and hover abilities to make his way through the treacherous landscape and find the silver Chaos Emerald. And... well, I'm just gonna say this: I didn't like this section at all. Not one bit. Why is that, you may ask? Well, it's surprisingly simple, and it's a reason that'll come up again with another character not that far down the line:
SILVER IS SO FUCKING SLOW
I swear to God, he moves at the speed of freakin' molasses, and that's not exactly helpful when you're trying to dodge those Eyes that try to suck you in and KILL YOU IN ONE HIT. It's even worse when objects come flying out of nowhere, hit and knock you back and into the things you can't even see and give you no chance of escape! There are quite a few points where I was literally saying to my TV, "COME ON, MOVE IT, SILVER!!!" because he's just moving along at a strolling pace when he should be, I don't know... running to get the gem? Ugh.
Thank God he has the Teleport Dash upgrade you can buy for him in his story, as it'll be quite helpful when trying to escape the pull of Solaris. I believe this is the only time in the game I actually found that ability to be useful for him, because I barely remember using it AT ALL in his main story other than trying it out at various places in Soleanna's hub areas. But, anyways, you get through his section like all the ones before him and the ones after him: make it to the end and avoid any enemies that come in your way, using the orb thingies to temporarily cause the Eyes of DEATH to go away. Get the silver Emerald and meet up with the others!
The 5th section sends you to Tails' portion of Wave Ocean as you glide across the waterways with Rouge in search of the purple Emerald. You can use the same strategy here that you did with Knuckles since you don't need to worry about combat and should climb the pillars, jump off, and glide on through, only really landing to activate the orbs. Compared to Silver's section, this part is actually quite a breeze, so make your way to the gem like the good treasure hunter Rouge is and now there's only 2 more left to get!
Things are getting rather chilly, as now we're in White Acropolis for the 6th portion of the stage with Amy making her way towards the blue Emerald. She's finding herself on the lower route of Rouge's and Tails' segment, and she has to use her hammer and double jumping prowess to get by. 6th verse is somehow same as the 1st, so try to get by all the enemies doing as little combat as necessary and focus on using the orbs and making your way towards the Emerald. However, there's one major problem I have with this section that also happens with Silver, and it's that just like her partner, Amy is SO UNBELIVABLY SLOW. I don't know why this is, but this really bothers me especially when I'm trying to get away from the Death Eyes which still instantly kill you. The good news is that this section is relatively short-lived, so the pain doesn't last for very long. Get that blue diamond and now it's all up to the Ultimate Lifeform!
The 7th and final section of the stage revolves around Shadow as he makes his way through the ruins of Kingdom Valley to find the red Chaos Emerald, the last of them to be found. Much like Flame Core's segment, I have no idea which character's part of the stage you're going through, because I'm mainly trying to make it to the end of the stage. Just like before, make it to the end of the stage doing as little combat as possible and use the orbs to take out the Eyes of Solaris, ride the eagle, and complete the stage as you grab the final Chaos Emerald! And... that's a wrap on the End of the World!
Wow... what a stage. I will say this about it: Even though there were a few problems I had with this stage, which included the slowness of Silver and Amy, sometimes the wonkiness of the camera causing you to get hit by things you can't even see, and getting a Game Over on ANY section - yes, even the last Shadow section, which DID happen to me - causes you to do the ENTIRE thing again starting back at Tails' Crisis City segment. But those issues didn't stop me from enjoying the stage as a whole, as I did enjoy the gimmick of traversing through nearly every stage of the game (except for Aquatic Base and Radical Train) only with Solaris hot on your trail. This is one of those levels that would indeed work had this game been given more time in the oven, because this was quite the fun trek!
With the cast reunited and all 7 Chaos Emeralds gathered, Princess Elise says a prayer, wanting to talk to Sonic and save the world once again. She then kisses Sonic (why?...), and that, with the power of the gems, revives the blue hero and transforms him into Super Sonic. He thanks Elise as he falls to her knees, and then Shadow and Silver join in and transform themselves. With the 3 super-powered hedgehogs transformed, they blast off into the sky, everybody cheering them on from below.
And here it comes... the final battle. The battle is split into 2 phases and every character is used in their own way. You start with Super Silver and use the meteors that Solaris throws at you and damage his left arm. It may not do much damage, but keep it up and it will eventually shatter. From there, switch to Super Shadow and use the Chaos abilities he has and damage the right arm in the same way. Just remember to keep moving! Once that's done, switch to Super Sonic and keep boosting into the core and Phase 1 is complete!
However... it's not over yet. The god comes back up and goes absolutely out of control as an orchestrated version of "His World" plays in the background. You need to constantly switch between all 3 hedgehogs and deal damage to his core, but it's best if you attack it while it's firing a laser at you since it exposes the weak point. Silver may unfortunately not be of much use here, so you'll want to rely on Sonic and Shadow. However, keep it up and he goes down, ENDING SOLARIS ONCE AND FOR ALL!
As the 3 hedgehogs land back in front of the other heroes, time and space is restored and we eventually see the Duke and young Elise come across the true form of Solaris. He explains that once it grows, they can eventually get control of time and that Elise can eventually see her mother again. As they walk away, the current form of the Princess and Sonic walk up to the flame and take it into their hands. She says that if they were to blow it out, the Flames of Disaster incident would have never happened and that everything would continue on, but that she would have never met Sonic. She tears up slightly saying that the truth is that she doesn't care what happens to the world, but Sonic tells her to just smile and that it'll all be okay.
With that, she does so and blows out the flame, sending everything back to the Soleanna Festival that was seen at the start of the game. Sonic can be seen running by at one point, wanting to get a view. As he speeds by, he creates a wind which Elise calls somehow familiar to her. One of the feathers from her hair floats up into the air and passes in front of the moon, which Sonic is viewing from a rooftop, and the screen fades to black, ending Sonic '06.
And that's the game. Hard to believe it all ends with it acting like it never existed in the first place, but it all ends where it all began. I don't have anything else to say other than this game surprised me more than I initially thought it would. I came into this game expecting it to be bad and what I came across was something that had tons of potential that never got to be fleshed out.
So... what do I think about this game as a whole? Honestly... I simply don't know. It might take me a bit to decide what I truly think about it all, since this game did quite a few things good and a few things bad. But all I can say is, I'm glad I can finally put this game behind me and I don't have to play this game again... unless I decide to play Project '06 in the future, that is, and I probably will... once I find a way to.
Now, I think it's time I play a LOT of Sonic Generations. I'll see you all next time with another take on a new Sonic game!!

2023.03.25 02:01 kp-- Douces Séparations

Sailesh sat listlessly watching the rain drops just lazily slapping the window pane he was next to. He'd just arrived from a flight not long ago. Not only could he still feel the strain the long flight had on his knees, he was yearning to perhaps, stretch them out. But an Asar in Kathmandu doesn't relent. The downpour was vicious, often making it difficult to have any fun time. Forget hiking, he'd be lucky to even get past the hotel without getting soaking wet. As he took another long swig of his cigarette, he contemplated the life choice that led him to the place he was currently. Surely, it'd mark a closure, perhaps seal the old wound. He'd relish this.
As his breath clashed with the pane, and fog slightly formed, he was interrupted by the host,"So brother, what will you be having today?". He impatiently waved him off, angry that the waiter had interrupted his train of thoughts. The waiter, rather meekly said,"So will you have anything else, sir? This is your 6th peg, Mother was wondering if you'd like anything else". Sailesh softly chuckled before replying "I'm waiting". As the waiter gave him a knowing nod, and gently faded away, he took another swig of the whiskey he was drinking. Cheap shit will always be cheap, in this shithole, he thought to himself. Still, anything to get that familiar burn down your throat, with the slight buzzy sensation in your temple. For the money he was tossing at it, he couldn't possibly complain. It would be that he dearly missed his scotch - his favorite poison. He rapped at the table impatiently, she hasn't changed a bit, had she? Always taking her sweet time. As he could make out the silhouette of a woman with a child through the foggy glass, he grew excited: "She came, she finally did!". Not only that realization made him jerk back from him day dreaming, he proceeded to straighten up, and pull his hair back. After taking a few moments to compose himself, he hailed the waiter silently to take away the glass and empty his ash tray. As the entrance door slowly opened, he could make out his once love of his life, slowly approaching him with a kid, hers, presumably. Aakanshya was a woman of sophistication, and absolute grace. The moment she walked towards you, you'd feel a gentle breeze on your forehead, whilst the back of your throat dried out, and you just wanted to steal a gaze from her, as long as time allowed. Her full lips often made you aware that even despite not smiling, she had a soft, gentle curve that made her face have this motherly touch that was simply inexplicable. Suffice to say, Sailesh felt a cocktail of emotions within him brewing, as he looked at a woman he admired so much.
As she sat down with the kid, Sailesh gently motioned towards her. After a brief eye contact, he felt as if they were pulled down, away from it. Perhaps he still had feelings for her. Perhaps he was here to find out why things happened, the way they did. Still, he could feel the pangs of that same constricting pain in his heart, as if someone, or something, held it. It took an effort breathing in. And thus, he started, "So Aaku...". Aaku gently smiled back, that same smile he now knew he yearned for more than 5 years. As she waved, the kid chimed in, "Is he the uncle you were talking about, mummy?". Aakanshya slowly nodded, then proceeded to speak, "Yes, Sailesh uncle here is my best childhood friend. We practically grew up together, just like you and Saakshi". "Eww, Momma grew up with a boy? That's so funny hahaha". "No Arya, uncle here was very good at tying my ribbons! Firstly, say hi to uncle, will you, dear?" Arya suddenly shouted, "Namastey Sailesh uncle!" in a manner that could only be described as being contagious. It was impossible not to have your heart melt right there and there, this some five odd years old brat, speaking in the cutest manner possible. Sailesh extended his hand "I'm Sailesh, how old are you?". Arya looked puzzled at the hand offered to her, promptly looking towards her mother for clues on what to do. As Aakanshya motioned Arya to shake his hand, Arya followed suit. Sailesh hasn't shook a hand that was more tender, warm in a while. As he dismissed her hand, he directed his gaze towards Aakanshya. "How long has it been, again?" he said, words slightly slurred. Perhaps the whiskey finally hit. As Aakanshya drew a long breath, Sailesh leaned back, reaching for his zippo. That's when he noticed her hard gazed, the same stone cold, disappointed pair of the most beautiful doe eyes one could imagine, staring through him. As he followed her gaze to Arya, it hit him that perhaps lighting a cigarette in front of a child, wasn't the best of decisions. Arya chortled,"Look momma, uncle smokes too, just like Daddy!". As Aakanshya frowned,"Momma are you about to shout at uncle?", with the most innocent of eyes. Sailesh bit his lips in a mixture of embarrassment, and restlessless. Yeah, fucking A man, fucking A, light a cig right in front of the kid.
"So how have you been?" Sailesh said, huffing after his own silliness. Aakanshya answered,"I'm doing great, Sailu, how are you doing?". "Doing fine. Company offered me a vacation plan, I rejected, caught the very first plane from Cali straight here so I could perhaps go visit old friends. But with this weather...", Sailesh chuckled. Aaku sighed, "Well, that's a nice change I suppose. You always were the overworker". As Sailesh motioned the waiter yet again, he asked Arya, bored, "So what will you have, Arya?" Arya took the menu, and immediately pointed at what she wanted : An icecream. Well, she was certainly her mother's child, this girl. Once the orders were placed, Sailesh spoke "So what are you doing these days?" Aakanshya slowly turned her head towards Arya, and said "Well, mostly taking care of Arya. Housework was much more difficult than I imagined", she smiled softly. "How long are you staying?" Sailesh sighed,"Hard to tell. I can return anytime, but I was looking to meet old faces here. Suffice to say that's nigh impossible at this weather. So I'm probably going to get holed up in a hotel till I get back home". "And how are your parents, how's Aunty doing?" "You know they're dead, Aaku. Why must you ask?" Aakashya's eyes widened,"When?". Sailesh bitterly replied,"It's been what, 2-3 years?" "I'm sorry, Sailesh, I didn't know that". Sailesh's lips curved ironically, as he smiled and retorted,"Well, it's none of your business anyway, so there". Before those words were barely out, he regretted saying it. "But I do care. And I'm sorry." Sailesh could see hints of tear well up in her eyes. "Sorry I wasn't there for Aunty and Uncle". Sailesh whipped back, "Well they'd not count on it, after all, you abandoned me". Aakanshya look at Sailesh, with a look of surprise, speechless. Arya, startled, looked at Aakanshya, "Mommy, are you crying? Are you about to have a fight with uncle, just like daddy?" Sailesh asked, opportunistically, "Do mommy and daddy get in fights often?" "Yes, daddy shouts at mommy, and mommy shuts the door and cries. It's really sad, you know -" Aakanshya interrupted Arya's monologue, and quietly motioned her to hush. So Sailesh went into brooding, before letting out his next question, "You're happy with him, aren't you?" He could feel Aakanshya visibly disturbed, silent. Perhaps blaming her from the get go wasn't the best of ideas. At the same moment, the orders were served, and that was the end of that. As mere small talked, veiled in pain were exchanged on both sides, Sailendra couldn't help but walk down back the memory lane.
It was that night, that had been their last. They had sneaked out of their friend's wedding together, got to his apartment, then started making love. Intimacy with her was a special time, he'd only been vulnerable with so many women. As they rolled over the bed, he had gotten up to look at the moon-lit fields across the window. He had sat down in the arm chair, contemplating the difficulties ahead in life. He was but merely deep in thought, when she had rolled over, glistening in sweat beads, whilst gently being caressed by the moonlight. That's when she'd said, "Sailu, we should get married, na?" He had but merely scoffed, looking at her saying, "Babe, I'm hitting the states next week, I won't be back for at least 4 years, you seriously think I'd be able to take care of myself, let alone you?!" Whilst running his fingers on her playfully, he'd find her smiling slightly, then turning over, pulling the blankets. And that was the exchange they had, before she abruptly called Sailesh a week after he landed on states, stating she was getting married soon. And him, in a foreign land, feeling utterly dejected, and betrayed. Why did she choose this banker, over him? What possibly could that bald jerk give her, that he couldn't?
As Sailesh was wading through the free fall of his thoughts, reality struck when Arya tugged at his jacket. "Uncle, will you come home? I'll show you my doll". Sailesh, frowning, shook his head. Suppose it was time to part ways. The visit had been extempore, after all. He had called her on messenger right as he landed, perhaps to make peace with himself. Though how exactly this meeting ended up making him any less disturbed than he already was: He wouldn't know. All he knew was the ship had sailed, and he was left out in the rain. As the bills were paid, and they stood in front of the restaurant under umbrellas, Sailesh said "Well, guess this is it then. Take care, alright?" As Aakanshya turned after nodding, he could have sworn he saw her back shake.
As he stood there, questioning himself, all the while lighting his cigarette, he couldn't help but kick himself for being an ass. Perhaps he went too hard on her. After all, she did come, didn't she? And yet, he was right there, in the same spot she left her, 6 years back. As the gentle pitter patters of droplets onto the puddle singed but meekly, he looked at the mother-daughter slowly walking away from her. He was but just there, looking at her, then her daughter, a spitting image of her, going away, engrossed in conversation. As he scratched his nape, he couldn't help but spot a familiar birthmark on little Arya. Something he had grown accustomed to, often bemoaned about for being unsightly. Then it dawned him, that perhaps, this would be the last time he'd see her, as he couldn't possibly face himself after today's charades.
Not after what just happened, not after what he said to her.

2023.03.25 01:48 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Minigames: What New Additions Could We See?

2023.03.25 01:21 Faulty_W1res Daily Remix Ideas: Part 124 (Survival Games-"Vengeance")

Let's go boys, Pearl's back in MCC, can't wait for MCC Scuffed. I really have no clue what else will be scuffed, but I know it will be interesting. But now, you know what time it is, it's time for remixing.
-----------------------------
"Vengeance"
So, along with loot RNG, one of the main complaints you hear about SG is that when you die, there's nothing to do and you're left to spectate for 10 minutes, which isn't a great time.
So, introducing, a thing that dead players can do.
When you die, you now come back as a "zombified" version of yourself. Your name turns some distinguishable colour, maybe like a different shade of green, with a Zombie icon beside to show you have been killed. If it's possible to code, maybe your skin could change to a more green version, just to make you look the part.
Now, as a Zombie there are things you can't do:
However, there are a few perks:
Pretty much, that's it. Zombies can gang up on specific players if they want, players will have to think around this in their play. Also, since all 40 players staying on the map to the very end would be messy, so before the last shrinking of the border, all zombies immediately evaporate, and the finale plays out as normal.
I'd imagine we'd get some fun revenge clips with this remix, some hilarious clips of zombies ganging up on different people, but also some smart plays. Some teams who've had one or two players killed could have the zombies on their team to act almost as bodyguards to protect their teammates to try ensure a better survival score.
-------------------------------
Well, remix done, and all the teams are now announced. We are well into the MCCS season, unless it turns out to be a massive April Fools troll. Predictions are beginning to happen, team skins are being made, it's all coming together. I'll see you tomorrow for another remix, hope you enjoyed this one, and have a good day.

2023.03.25 01:04 Secret-Tomatillo5044 Why I can't swallow anything blue

I was raised by a single mother whose behavior grew odder over the years. I never doubted that she loved me, but I could tell she was changing. A couple of months after my 13th birthday she began appearing more sluggish. Falling asleep on the couch often, making confusing statements, and being generally groggy. Simultaneously she became more forgetful, asking about friends I hadn't talked to in years and being unable to remember my interests. My mom was fairly young so I didn't understand why she was losing her memory so fast. Whenever I questioned it she would get defensive, saying that I was the one who was out of sorts.
At one point she even berated me after I told her that I was getting worried. Naturally, our relationship soured as her negative behaviors outweighed her positive ones. It hurt to watch, especially because I could sense how hard my growing distance was impacting her. I even blamed myself for her state to an extent, which I realize now I should have never done. One thing remained good though, she was great at making butterfly pea tea. She would prepare it for me every morning and afternoon once I was home from school. It was a sapphire blue color that turned into a light purple when something acidic was added. It was simple but it always hit the spot. It helped that blue was my favorite color, so it was aesthetically comforting as well. Outside of the previously mentioned struggles with her, I lived a happy life. I got good greats and had reliable friends. It was mostly smooth sailing until the incident that changed my life.
I was fast asleep when I felt my bed-sheet get swiftly torn off me. Naturally, I realized it was my mom since no one else lived with us.
“Mom, what are you doing?” I asked in response. She gave no reaction apart from a strange high-pitched gasp. Not knowing what to say I sleepily rolled towards the electric clock. The numbers appeared as a reddish blur until I opened my crust-coated lids. Letting out a small irritated breath once the mucus cracked. I wiped the substance off and refocused on the time, finding that it was only 2:00 AM. I pushed myself up and reached for the lamp when my wrist was gripped tightly. I groaned with annoyance, rolling my eyes.
“Okay, you're starting to freak me out, seriously what’s going on?!” I spoke with as much defiance as I could muster at that hour. My mom remained silent, stepping forward with a notable thud. Her grip grew stronger, which made me start to panic. She'd had moments where she seemed out of it before, but it never got physical. She gave a wet cough before finally speaking.
“You forgot to wash your face, you always remember to do that, what went wrong?” she questioned sternly. I scrunched up my face, she’d gotten up at four in the morning just to berate him about skincare?
“I was tired, I just brushed my teeth to be done with the day.” I felt my justification was sound but my mom practically barked her response.
“Dammit! I told you it needs to be applied once a day, now you'll have to use it two times to make up for this!” My heart skipped a beat, surprised at her volume and harshness. It made me wonder if she was upset about something else but was letting it out on me. She was getting particularly stressed from work around that time. My mom sighed and relinquished her grip. I rubbed my wrist, hoping she'd get through her outburst soon.
“Please get up,” she said softer than previously, taking a couple steps back. I obliged, getting out of bed. When my feet touched the ground, confusion wafted over me. my socks quickly dampened as I realized that liquid was seeping through the carpet.
“Hey did you spill something earlier?” I asked, stretching my arms.
“No, I didn't.” she started plainly.
“Oh, well I think I might have stepped in some type of liquid,” I motioned to the lamp, but she quickly pulled me into her arms by my shirt.
“Let’s not worry about that Blue Bird, same goes for the lamp, you don't need light right now, you'll have it soon,” she assured me with a hint of excitement, I squirmed out of her hug, accepting the odd rules she set in place, I didn't want to argue with her.
“Just follow me,” she patted me on the shoulder and held my hand as we walked out to the backyard. It was almost impossible to see anything in our home with the moon being the only source of light, I didn't have a clue about how she navigated the space without bumping into anything. Still, I remembered how our home was set up and could tell that we’d already passed the bathroom. My nerves heightened with each step, I had so many questions. Why were we going into the backyard when my face wash was inside? What did I step in? What was wrong with wanting the lamp on? Those questions rang strongly in my mind. Nothing felt right, things had felt off before but never quite wrong. The anxiety of the situation gave me an uncomfortable rush of energy, I couldn't sleep now if I wanted to. When the sliding door opened the humid air hit my body with an unrepresented strength, something my mother didn't pay any mind to. I continued to follow her, even though I was scared.
“Go ahead and sit on that chair.” she motioned to a green plastic kiddie chair that fit me despite its childish design. I went along with her instructions, seating myself. My mom appeared in front of me and I realized she was wearing something on her face. It had the shape and construction of a surgical mask but it was woven with dying flower stems and grass. Before I could say anything she picked up a mug off the ground to my right. She smelled it through the mask, lovingly holding it to my face. I observed the steam and realized the vapor had a bluish tint.
“Go ahead, drink it.” she smiled with especially groggy eyes. I would have described them as bloodshot if the veins running up her sclera weren't sapphire. I leaned away from her and the beverage. Hiding it as another stretch, pulling my arms above my head while yawning.
“Well isn't that wonderful! Keep your arms there, I’ll feed it to you, it'll be like when you were an adorable baby, drinking out of a bottle in my stroller!” she said gleefully with an uncharacteristic giggle. I was now thoroughly unnerved, putting my arms down and pushing away the drink.
“God, what’s going on with you! And why are you wearing that mask!” I yelled out getting up from the chair. My mom groaned at my attitude, putting the cup up to my face again as I attempted to walk off.
“Nothing is going on with me, don't worry! I just thought this mask looked nice. I made this nice cup of tea and it would warm my heart if my baby boy drank it! You're growing into such a handsome man and this will help your complexion!” her enthusiasm grew as she pushed the hot cup against my lips. I whined from the sizzling heat, pulling back.
“Why are you so insistent on this?!” I shouted with a growing sense of anger. I despised the way she was speaking to me. Whenever she used baby talk around me it was a set up for something manipulative. An example being when she used it to guilt me into sleeping in the same bed with her. Saying I owed her since I was her baby. Sure she apologized, but it wasn't the last time she would do something like that. I couldn't even buy her excuse that it would help with acne. I’d had the tea many times before with her and we both knew it was unhelpful in that regard.
“Because it needs to be done for your sake!” Her shoulder cracked loudly as she spoke in a deeper, raspier voice I didn't recognize. I took a couple of steps back, reaching into the pocket of my sweat pants before remembering my phone wasn't on me. I swore under my breath as I looked at my mother with concern. I took my hand out and she pounced on me, spilling a majority of the hot liquid onto my left arm. I screamed at the sensation of the steaming beverage hitting my flesh. She held me down tightly with both arms. Her eyes glistened with a holographic finish that lit up amid the night. I had never seen her like this. At this point I stopped caring about what made her act this way. Regardless of what was causing her behavior, it wouldn't justify her current actions. I squirmed beneath her, screaming at her to let go. I still couldn't bring myself to fight back, so I resorted to begging.
“Mom please stop! I’m sorry for every inconvenience I’ve caused! We can go get you help and make up, just please get off of me!” I pleaded whilst trying to push her away.
“You're the one who needs help here! You’ve been going through life as a husk for years now! It hurts my heart to watch you deteriorate like this and I can't let it go on!” she grabbed onto the sides of my head and slammed it against the ground. I cried out in pain. The pressure pounding in my skull began in the center and spread down to my teeth. The agony pulsated through me stronger than anything I’d felt before. My mom removed a hand and pulled out a sippy cup from the pocket in her pajama shorts. It too was filled with butterfly pea tea. Taking this as an opportunity, I pushed past the damage and bit her arm. I felt awful attacking her, but my fear surpassed my guilt. As uncomfortable as it was I sank my teeth in as far as I could. She let out a throaty gurgle in response to the attack. I attempted to crawl out from under her, using my legs to pull myself up across the grass. I moved frantically, praying I could keep up the momentum. She clutched my thin hips with her legs to keep me down. I continuously smacked the container away with my free arm while I squirmed, my back smashing against the ground in my attempts. My mom covered the cap of the cup and rolled her eyes, pushing her entire body onto mine. Covering my face as I screamed for help.
“STAY STILL!” she screeched as a viscous substance seeped through her mask. Directly pouring down my forehead, making me tremble from its cold. Before I could plan another move she shoved me to the side. My face, experiencing a burn from the grit and speed. She ran to me, kneeled down, and forced her fist into my mouth. I coughed and cried while she pulled on my tongue. I wiggled it but her grasp only hardened with each movement. Her sweaty skin overloaded my sense of taste. I kicked around but nothing deterred her, even when she was hit. I couldn't focus on anything but how much I hurt, none of what was happening made sense.
She frantically opened the sippy cup, pried my mouth open, and made me guzzle down the drink. It was boiling and I screamed in ways I didn't know I was capable of. My entire body bent in all directions as I looked into the eyes of the thing before me. The initial blue glow transitioned further into a shining violet every time a new drop was swallowed. I felt powerless in the arms of my mother, I couldn't understand why she was torturing me like this. What did I do? Was she always like this and I undermined the signs so I’d live with a greater sense of safety? I continued to sob once I’d finished the tea. The burning made it sting every time I breathed.
My mom stared at me and for a brief moment, I saw a glimpse of the parent I was used to. Underneath the murky cool layers, I saw a speck of guilt. A single leaf in an empty pond, rippling through the surrounding water no matter how small. My mother sighed with a hint of sorrow, closing her eyes. Once she did, my energy died out, my cries grew softer, my body grew limp, and the world blurred. I couldn't even conceive a cohesive thought by the time my body slumped to the ground. All I was left with was confusion and a trace of dread.
“I’m sorry for earlier” rang through my ears once I regained my sense of touch. I grabbed the ground tightly, despite the presence of grass I knew I wasn't in our backyard. This grass was far too damp to be the dry patch I last resided in. I slowly opened my eyes, fearing where I’d find myself. I expected to be shrouded in darkness, laying in a stuffy deep hole in the ground, but I was met with the contrary. A perfect blue sky, a bustling variety of greenery, and a fresh breeze. I took a sigh of relief, still confused at where I was but happy it didn't appear threatening. I glanced ahead, finding a cluster of my favorite flowers at my feet. The smell of Jasmine and Orchids was heavenly, sweeter than fresh vanilla cake. Though the pleasant scent re-instilled unease in me. All of this was far too good to be true, and I still had no idea where I was. Did my mother take me here? If so, why? Was she somewhere here or had she abandoned him? I sat up delving headfirst into the flowers, groaning with frustration. The petals were soft, and damp like the grass, the water on them cool against my face. In any other situation, this would be a dream, but it only made him more nervous. Something this perfect had to be a setup.
“Blue Bird!” my mother happily exclaimed, I lifted my head, finding her standing over me. She was now wearing a polka-dotted dark blue dress instead of her nightwear. I shuffled myself back from her, her pupils had vanished and her mask was wilting.
“Mom, you're scaring me, I don't get what's going on. What are we doing here?” I asked shakily, she sighed and knelt to make direct eye contact with me.
“We're in a special place, a lush land that‘s available to very few. You don't have to worry, I just brought you here to rid you of your emotional pain.” her answer only confused me further.
“Emotional pain? Mom, I'm fine, the only thing causing me emotional distress is what’s happening right now. This place is nice but you're freaking me out.” I attempted to get up but something grabbed my legs. I shrieked as two bright green vines wrapped around my limbs.
“MOM WHAT THE HELL IS THIS! GET THESE THINGS AWA-” I was cut off by a much thicker vine logging itself into my throat. My eyes once again welled up with tears while multiple tendrils clenched onto me. Every time I moved another one would grab hold and the present ones would tighten. Nevertheless I continued screaming.
“I'm sorry my child, there’s something I've avoided telling you. I feed off the life force of living things. Cats, pigeons, people, as long as they’re not close to their death bed I can consume them.” I didn't fully understand what she was saying, but it only made my fear increase.
“Every time I take something from someone, I take them here. I've avoided taking things from you since you're the most precious thing to me. But my sweet baby boy, I've gotten so, so hungry.” Her pitch dropped while developing a defined rasp. I winced further from the nickname.
“I've tried to live off others, but I couldn't resist you anymore when you're so readily available. You’re so full of life, it's been hard not to contain my urges.” she stroked my cheek, frowning at my devastation.
“If I don’t get the nutrients I need, I'll turn into an awful thing. A monster incapable of complex thought that does nothing but destroys.” There was now a vine holding down every joint in my skeletal system, down to my fingers. Multiple small ones had been twisting themselves around my stomach, now making me struggle to breathe.
“Blue Bird, I have given my life to raising you, so please understand you have to give something back to me.” she explained solemnly.
The woven mask snapped off, quickly unraveling the horrifying contents beneath it. My pupils shrunk to pin drops, my screams of agony lessening from shock. My mother’s entire jaw had been dislocated, hanging onto her face by a couple of fleshy threads. The inside of her mouth was a bright blue with scaly gums. Her murky entirely cerulean eyes watered as she began panting. She extended her tongue to an inhuman length, thick saliva rapidly dripping down it. I wanted to believe that she wasn't going to hurt me, through all this she was still my mother. Yet I couldn't convince myself of that. Not when I felt multiple vines move through my body, entering through my mouth, eyes, and nose.
I couldn't bear to look at the thing I once called mom any longer. My ears buzzed while my eardrums were compressed by an increasing number of tubes. Their weight was breaking down the layers of skin and muscle preventing entry into my skull. Every orifice I had was on fire from pressure, yet I could tell this was only the lead-up to a crescendo of pain. A sharp fang poked through the tip of her and stabbed itself into my forehead. It punctured my skin, dragging in a curve. I twitched from the spike circling around my skull, extending my gash. Blood dripped on every side of my head, stinging harsher once the wind's currents grew.
By this point, I’d rather be in a wood chipper than deal with the cascade of agony invading every part of me. The blue-eyed thing licked up the gore flowing down and I wondered how I’d managed to go this entire time without throwing up. Her tongue was akin to sandpaper slathered in chili oil. In a last-ditch attempt to gain some power over the situation, I bit down into the vine as hard as I could. Which only worsened things when a miniature yet equally as strong vine sprung from the one I bit and wrangled my teeth. Forcibly spreading my jaw open further, making room for more to be stuffed in. A couple of tiny ones even slid between my front teeth. Thankfully, no more came after since the goal of the plant had been reached. The dam between the organic tendrils and my brain broke open, allowing each one to set roots in the vital organ. Each crevice of my intellect was invaded by a slithering, rough, nature. The impact was too strong and my senses shut down once more. My struggling limbs stopped what little movement they were capable of. My breathing slowed, my screams fell silent, and my eyes closed with tears still laying behind them. I didn't even realize I was shutting down, it just happened.
I was unconscious for an amount of time I can’t measure but knew was long. When I awoke my body felt infinitely more hollow. A loud ringing permeated my ears as I slowly took breaths. My jaw ached, my throat was painfully dry, and I could feel how cracked my lips were. My body fought with itself to not pass out, desperately trying to hold together.
“It’ll be all better soon,” My mother comforted while grabbing a sharpened knife. I was laying on her bed, but there were towels in place of sheets. Once she pulled my shirt over my head, I started to panic again.
“No, stop,” I mumbled, barely recognizing my weakened muffled voice. She made a series of meticulous cuts on my torso. Once the wound was opened she would squeeze as much blood as possible out of it and bag it away. I looked down, further horrified by the fact my blood was blue.
“I know it hurts, but it’ll be worth it,” She calmly told me as I bled out. The process went on for hours, resulting in me being unable to sleep for days after. I didn't feel safe in my house anymore, I locked myself in my room more than ever. Joining the longest after-school programs and visiting my friend’s house whenever I got the chance. Something my closest friend noticed most, he asked me what was wrong, but I told him it was nothing. I didn't expect him to believe anything about what happened, and the event was too awful for me to bring up. Meanwhile, my mother kept telling me I had a bad dream and that I was just moody. I showed her the scars as evidence but she accused me of making them myself to make her look bad. The next few years were tumultuous and before I knew it the initial incident became one of many. Every year she’d do it more often than the last, and each time it would take longer for me to recover.
It got to the point where the mere sight of gardens would scare me. The scents of my once favorite flowers grew sour, I didn't want to touch butterfly pea tea, and eventually, I couldn't even handle consuming things that are blue. It took me a long time to write this, as I’ve cried at multiple points by recounting what happened. There is a long road to recovery for me, which is even harder since everyone I’ve opened up to has called me crazy, but I'm done letting these memories fester and consume my life. I'm more than the worst things that happened to me.
