2023.06.07 12:17 CommercialMaximum354 Death in the Welsh Valleys, the Clydach Murders

Hello there. Today I'm going to talk about one of the most controversial cases of a wrongful conviction in recent UK criminal history, the 1999 Clydach Murders.
The Victim's Murders.
In the early morning hours of June 27 1999, the bodies of Dorris Dawson, 80, her daughter Amanda Power, 34, and her granddaughters Katie, 10, and Emily, 8, were found in their burned out home in Kelvin Road, Clydach which is a village located in the Principality of Swansea in South Wales. The victims were discovered dead when firefighters were called to put out a fire. It is believed that two fires were set one around Midnight and another a few hours later, both in an attempt to conceal the crimes. All four women were found to have been beaten in the head with a piece of lead piping that had become somewhat of a toy to the young girls, who liked to twirl it around like a baton. Dorris was killed in her bed, while Amanda (better known as Mandy) and her daughters were killed on the landing.
Neighbour Rosemary Jones says she was woken up when she heard a car approach the house around 1am, but assumed it was Mandy returning home. However, she now believes this could have been the killer returning back to set fire to the house after murdering the family. There was no sign of forced entry to the house, which led detectives to believe it was someone the family knew. Among the evidence was a blood-soaked sock police believe was used as a glove, and a gold chain that appeared to have been pulled off the killer in a fight with Mandy. Now remember thos gold chain because I'm going to talk about it later on.
The Investigation and the suspect David Morris.
The vicious death sparked one of the most expensive and extensive investigations in the history of the South Wales police. Morris, 38 at the time of his arrest, lived in the nearby town of Craig Cefn Parc, about a mile away from the Powers' home. He was taken in by police 18 months after the murders, when it was reported the gold chain found at the scene was his. Morris had no alibi for his whereabouts at the time of the murders, and frequently changed his story when questioned by Police. He claimed he spent that day getting drunk watching the rugby at a local pub, where he also had a row with his girlfriend who then stormed off home. He remained to continue drinking.
Morris states he left at 11.30pm and decided to stay at his parents, starting a potential five-mile walk through country roads to get to them. He then changed his mind, returning to his own house by 4.30am. However, these timings fit in perfectly with the murders taking place, and witnesses at the pub claim they overheard him bad-mouthing Mandy, calling her an "old cow" and an "unfit mother". It was also claimed that he had taken amphetamines during his time at the pub. During his initial interview, he said the gold chain wasn't his, but was similar to one he had broken about two weeks later while working on a building site. He later changed his story when his cousin, Eric Williams, said Morris had asked him for money to buy a chain similar to the one he had lost, and he had bragged that he'd slept with Mandy the Friday before the murders, leaving the chain there.
Morris said he did have sex with Mandy and asked for money for the chain, but only to affirm his innocence rather than hide his guilt. At the time, he was a father to two daughters, and was living with his girlfriend, and didn't want to be found out as a cheater. He also wanted a similar chain to evade suspicion that the one at the crime scene was his. His rapidly changing story put him in poor favour with the jury, who saw the discussion at the pub and the chain as evidence of his guilt. Morris had also previously attacked someone, hitting him with a blunt instrument around the head, but it was later dismissed as the jury was persuaded he acted in self-defence. After being convicted once, Morris successfully fought for a retrial, and was convicted again. During that trial, the prosecution produced evidence via phone records proving he was at home at the time he claimed to be sleeping with Mandy. This in turn threw out the reason why his chain would be at the home. In October 2021, after a new independent investigation into the murders was launched, the police ruled the bloodied sock contained 'a scientific link' with Morris. "I hope this now provides closure for those most affected by the murders," the police said in a video released on Twitter. By this time, Morris had died in prison.
The Powers family maintain to this day, given the evidence they've seen in court, that Morris is the man responsible for the death of Dorris, Mandy, Katie and Emily. Martyn Lloyd-Evans, senior investigating officer of the investigation, tells Murder In The Valleys he has "no doubt in his mind" about Morris being the killer. "This case has been looked at and looked at and looked at and explored, and I'm puzzled that people can't see Morris for what he is," he said. "Everyone wants to be an armchair detective but they don't know the facts."
Wrongfully Convicted?
Despite the evidence placed against him by the prosecution, and his double conviction, there is an equal amount of evidence to suggest Morris was not guilty of the crimes. First, Morris was never seen in or near the vicinity of Mandy's home by any witnesses that evening. Second, despite a large amount of searching, there was never any definitive DNA evidence that he was in Mandy's home. Even the bloodied sock has been noted as a 'scientific link', with Steve Carey of Devon and Cornwall police stating in a video posted on Twitter that "the outcome of the forensic assessment has not established any information that undermines the conviction of David Morris". It is added the incomplete mixed Y-STR result is "as expected as if Morris had contributed to it". But South Wales Police have refused to release the report regarding the DNA to his defence team, which despite his death in August 2021, is continuing to fight for his exoneration. They have also refused to state exactly how conclusive the DNA evidence actually is on the sock (ie. whether it's definitive proof or if it wouldn't stand up in court).
His DNA wasn't found on the gold chain either, however forensics determined there was 'brick dust and green paint chips' within the links. Mostly, there is no determined motive as to why he would murder an entire family, with all evidence proving, at best, circumstantial. The prosecution successfully argued Morris 'flew into a fit of rage' after Mandy had rejected his sexual advances, but there was male DNA found at the crime scene, including on the murder weapon that again did not belong to Morris.
South Wales Police had also been coming under scrutiny for the number of criminal convictions that had been overturned in their jurisdiction, and their conduct throughout high-profile investigations. This included the Newsagent Three of 1987, where three men were wrongfully convicted and spent 11 years in prison for the murder of a newsagent, and five Black men wrongfully convicted for the murder of a woman in 1988. Due to the brutality of the murders, South Wales Police were under enormous pressure to find and convict Mandy's murderer. The alternative suspects came from within their own ranks – officers (and twin brothers) Stuart and Stephen Lewis, and Stephen's wife Alison. She was having an affair with Mandy at the time of the murder and Stuart was the first senior officer on the scene of the crime. However, again all members of the Lewis family similarly maintain their innocence in all aspects of the case, with Stephen claiming he had no idea about his wife's affair or homosexuality until after the murders went public.
Stephen and Alison were at one point arrested, but were released without charge after four days of questioning. There was not enough evidence to connect them to the crime and the Lewises were never charged. They were eventually ruled out as suspects in 2001.
Where is David Morris now?
Morris died after serving 22 years in HMP Long Lartin, Worcestershire on August 20, 2021. His cause of death was never officially confirmed. He had spent the rest of his life maintaining his innocence and appealing his conviction. In 2007, his whole-life sentence – which means no possibility for parole – was quashed with a minimum 32-year sentence put in its place. In January 2021, it was decided the police should re-examine the case. Murder In The Valleys follows the ensuing year of re-examination.
My thoughts on the case. Personally I'm sitting on the fence about whether Morris is guilty or not. However one thing I am certain of is that I do not believe that South Wales Police proved Morris's guilt (if he did do it) beyond reasonable doubt.

2023.06.07 11:04 lechatheureux The Tonpa Kingdoms Part 2 (The Kingdoms of Jangshun and Monyul)

Check out part 1 for context
The Tonpa Kingdoms Part 1 (Overview and The Gods) : worldbuilding (reddit.com)
There are 5 connected Kingdoms that have Tonpa as their main religion these are.
Jangshun
A Place of snow-capped Mountains and green Valleys, said to be built upon the ruins of the ancient Jungar people who controlled much of the area of Jangshun and the nearby kingdoms of Monyul and Taishigang.
Very little is known about the Jungar, their ruins are scattered throughout the landscape of Jangshun, and are often characterized by simple stone structures, pottery shards, and other artifacts. Based on these remains, it is believed that the Jungar were a relatively simple society, with a lifestyle that revolved around farming, herding, and other basic activities.
Despite their lack of sophistication, the Jugar are an important part of the history and culture of the region many myths and legends have grown up around them, the people of Jangshun often see the Jungar as a symbol of the enduring spirit of the region, and take pride in the fact that they were able to survive and thrive in a harsh and unforgiving environment. In addition to their physical remains, the Jungar have left a lasting impact on the people of Jangshun in other ways. Their language, customs, and traditions are thought to have influenced the culture of the later kingdom, and many people still feel a strong connection to the Jagun and their way of life.
The Capital of Jangshun is called Druktse, founded by Dragon Priests and the legendary Namgyal dynasty the city is known for its unique architecture, with buildings made of wood and stone, intricately carved and painted with colorful designs and motifs, the streets are narrow and winding, with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze and the sound of temple bells ringing in the air.
At the center of the city is the Royal Palace of Jigme Wangchuk, a majestic building that serves as the residence of the Royal Family, the palace consists of several wings and halls, each with its own specific function. The main hall is the center of political and ceremonial activities, where the king held court and received important guests. The royal family's private quarters were located in a separate wing, with opulent living spaces and lavish decorations.
One of the most impressive features of the palace is the Eagle Tower, a tall structure that houses the elite Eagle Guards, who were responsible for the king's security the tower is covered from top to bottom with intricate carvings of the bird of prey.
The palace is surrounded by lush gardens and fountains, and it is guarded by soldiers in traditional Eagle attire, the Eagle Guards of the palace of Jingme Wangchuk are an elite group of soldiers tasked with protecting the king and the royal family, known for their fearsome reputation and exceptional combat skills, the Eagle Guards are considered one of the most prestigious units in the Jangshun army.
The guards are named after the majestic eagles that inhabit the mountainous regions of Jangshun, and they were trained to emulate the hunting tactics of these birds of prey. They are adept at using the terrain to their advantage, and are particularly skilled at scaling steep cliffs and mountainous terrain to surprise and overwhelm their enemies. In addition to their exceptional combat skills, the Eagle Guards were also known for their loyalty and dedication to the royal family. They undergo rigorous training and were selected based on their physical prowess, intelligence, and character, to become an Eagle Guard, applicants must be graduates of both the School of the Father and School of the Dragon.
The Eagle Guards are outfitted in distinctive uniforms that featured a stylized eagle emblem, and they were armed with a variety of weapons, including bows, spears, and swords. They were also known to use eagle feathers and talons in their armor and equipment, as a nod to the unit's namesake.
Druktse is a hub of cultural and religious activities, with several monasteries and temples located throughout the city.
The most famous of these is the Tashicho Dzong, a stunning fortress monastery that serves as the seat of The Gyelpa (The Duke) the secondary ruler of Druktse and the center of Druk-Ta worship. The dzong is surrounded by high walls and towers, and is accessible through a grand gate that is guarded by soldiers. The interior of the dzong is a maze of courtyards, chapels, and offices, all connected by narrow passageways and staircases.
One of the most impressive features of Tashicho Dzong is its towering central fortress and monastery, which rises above the rest of the complex and can be seen from miles around. This fortress is home to the Dragon Priests and is one of the most important structures in Jangshun. The fortress monastery is also famous for its beautiful architecture and intricate artwork. The walls of the courtyards are adorned with colorful murals and paintings, while the chapels are filled with statues and other religious artifacts. Visitors to Tashicho Dzong can tour the complex and learn about Jangshun history and culture, as well as observe the daily routines of the monks who live and work there. The Monastery is open to the public during certain hours of the day, and visitors are advised to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the chapels. Even though the current royal family of Jangshun are connected to The Father, The Dragon holds a special place in Druktse.
The people of Druktse are known for their warm hospitality and their strong sense of community. They celebrate several festivals throughout the year, including the annual Tshechu festival, the 3 Gods Festival which features colorful dances and rituals performed by monks and laypeople.
To the north-east of the Kingdom lies the second biggest city in Jangshun, the city of Lhagyal, often called “The Fire-proof City”
Lhagyal is a mass of stone walls and buildings with precious little wood being used at all, the walls of the city are imposingly high and even the central palace is relatively flat and does not rise above the walls, there are 4 gates made of pure steel and those are the only entrances and exits.
Inside the city walls, the streets are narrow and winding, with tall, tightly packed buildings constructed from rough-hewn stone. The architecture is distinct, with flat roofs and ornate metal doors decorating the doorways and windows, many of the buildings are built into the city's walls, their backs resting against the ancient stones.
There is more to the city than what meets the eye. Beneath the streets lie a labyrinth of tunnels and catacombs, built for both practical and spiritual purposes. Some are used for storage or as escape routes, while others are filled with ancient artifacts and sacred relics. The catacombs are also home to a complex network of underground temples and shrines and busy streets that are home to underground residences and businesses.
Despite its rugged appearance, the city's architecture is a testament to its resilience. It has withstood numerous attempts at invasion over the centuries, including attacks by powerful enemies armed with the latest in siege weaponry. The city's fortifications are a marvel of engineering, designed to withstand even the most devastating attacks and yet, for all its defensive prowess, the city has never lost sight of its cultural heritage.
The most famous instance of this was when the neighbouring Confucian Kingdom of Jinyun attempted to invade Jangshun with its impressive military might, scores of loyal foot-soldiers hardened by decades of conflict and advanced siege technology that included weapons that used fireworks.
The city withstood months of warfare with Lhagyal earning its nickname of “The Fire-proof City” The stone structures withstood the fireworks and the hard rock of the walls withstood the Jinyun catapults, outside the city several guerilla efforts by the Eagle Guards, The Company of the Hand and The White Tigers from Monyul lending their support repelled attempted on-foot invasions by the hardened Jinyun soldiers.
In the south-west of Jangshun, near the borders of Monyul and Taishigang lies the town of Gyalpeling, a place revered by monks and pilgrims alike. Gyalpeling, meaning "Abode of the Victorious" is a small yet vibrant town located in a remote corner of the kingdom. Its strategic location, surrounded by imposing mountains and blessed with fertile lands, has made it a crucial hub for spiritual activities and monastic life. The town is centered around a grand monastery, which serves as the heart and soul of the community. The monastery, known as Samtenling Monastery, is a majestic complex of ornate buildings adorned with colorful murals, fluttering prayer flags, and the sound of chanting monks echoing through the air. It is a revered place of worship and learning, drawing scholars, practitioners, and seekers of wisdom from far and wide. The streets of Gyalpeling are lined with modest housing for monks, adorned with intricate woodcarvings and colorful paintings. The locals, known for their warm hospitality and deep reverence for Tonpa, every activity the townspeople engage in helps the monastery in some way, whether trading, farming or craftsmanship, every resident of Gyalpeling helps out the monastery in some way. The town also boasts natural hot springs, believed to have healing properties, which attract pilgrims and visitors seeking solace and rejuvenation. The pristine rivers and lakes surrounding Gyalpeling add to its enchanting beauty, serving as places for meditation, ritual ablutions, and scenic walks. Gyalpeling is not only a place of spiritual significance, but it also serves as a center of learning, with numerous scriptoria, libraries, and meditation caves where monks engage in intensive study, contemplation, and meditation, prospective monks come from all over the 5 Kingdoms to study in Gyalpeling, as monks educated within its walls are valued in any court of the Tonpa Kingdoms.
One of the most valuable cities in Jangshun isn't far from the capital, a short 1 hour horse ride east of Druktse stands the city of Jangtse, a jewel in the crown of the kingdom. Jangtse, meaning "Silver Peak" in the local tongue, owes its fame and prosperity to the rich veins of silver that run through the nearby mountains, making it a thriving center for mining and trade. At the heart of Jangtse rises a magnificent conical palace, known as Jang Potrang, or the "Silver Palace." The palace, glistening like a beacon atop the tallest hill in the city, is adorned with silver-plated roofs, walls, and pillars, reflecting the sunlight and casting a mesmerizing glow over the surrounding landscape. It serves as the royal residence, where the Count holds court and conducts affairs pertaining to the area between Jangtse and Druktse. The streets of Jangtse are lined with buildings that boast silver-plated facades, creating a surreal and shimmering sight as one walks through the city, often shining gold from reflecting the sunlight, the wealth of the city is evident in the intricate silver filigree work that adorns windows, doors, and rooftops of temples, mansions, and markets alike. The silversmiths of Jangtse are renowned for their craftsmanship, producing exquisite silverware and jewelry that are sought after by collectors and traders from distant lands. The city is a bustling center of commerce, with a vibrant market square where merchants from across the region gather to trade in silver, gemstones, textiles, and other precious goods. The sounds of bartering, laughter, and the clinking of silver coins fill the air.
The Armies of Jangshun are known for their ferocious foot-soldiers, the every-day rank and file soldiers of the Jangshun armies are regarded as the best in the region and are a feared prospect to face on any battlefield.
The soldiers of the army of Jangshun are highly disciplined and skilled in the art of warfare, and are renowned throughout the region for their courage and loyalty. They are trained in a variety of weapons and fighting styles, including archery, swordsmanship, and hand-to-hand combat.
It is said that the success of the army comes from the fact that many men and women who fight in it are from mountainous regions and are conditioned from a young age to move over mountainous land with ease, their armies can easily traverse land that would be impossible for normal armies to travel over, due to the fact that the soldiers know the land.
The army of Jangshun is led by a commander-in-chief, who is appointed by the common foot-soldiers and is responsible for the overall strategy and tactics of the army. Under the commander-in-chief, there are several generals and officers who oversee different units of the army, each with their own specific roles and responsibilities. The soldiers of the army of Jangshun are equipped with a variety of weapons and armor, including shields, helmets, and chainmail. They are also skilled in the use of traditional weapons, such as the da and the gochu, which are types of swords. In addition to their skills in battle, the soldiers of the army of Jangshun are also highly respected for their loyalty and devotion to their ruler and country. They are known for their strong sense of duty and honor, and are willing to lay down their lives in defense of their homeland. The army of Jangshun is often called upon to defend the kingdom against invading forces, and has a long history of successful battles and campaigns. Their reputation for courage and skill has earned them the respect of their neighbors and allies, and they are a source of pride and inspiration for the people of Jangshun.
One of the most famous regiments from Jangshun is the “Wheel of Steel” A heavily armored longsword unit founded by Princess Jamyang Daughter of King Kunga and Sister of King Yangchen of the Yeshe Dynasty after she travelled to Europe and witnessed people fighting in full suits of armor, this was a foreign concept in the areas around her and she implemented the idea with her Father's (And later Brother's) full support they were first deployed in aid of Taishigang who were experiencing an invasion from a nearby Dharmist Kingdom. The longswords cleaved through the invading forces lack of armor and their steel plates deflected blows.
Monyul
Monyul is a land of vast open spaces and stunning natural beauty. The kingdom is home to a proud and fiercely independent people, who have built a rich culture and a strong military tradition, its plains are green and warm during the summer but snow is not uncommon in winter. Dharmaling is the capital city of Monyul and is nestled in the hills, surrounded by winding rivers and vast grasslands. It is a city steeped in tradition and culture, with a rich history that stretches back centuries.
Dharmaling was built as the northern most outpost of the Dharmist Indraprastha Empire but was conquered by Tonpa forces from a tribe that would eventually become known as the Monyul. The city is built around a central marketplace, where merchants from all over the known world come to trade their wares. The marketplace is a bustling hub of activity, filled with the sounds of bargaining and haggling, and the aromas of exotic spices and perfumes.
The Company of the Wind have their main offices in Dharmaling and use the bustling 10 storey wooden building to plan its operations throughout the known world. The streets of Dharmaling are relatively wide due to the constant horse carts that pass through them. The buildings are made of stone and wood, with intricately carved facades and ornate balconies. Many of the houses have flat roofs, which are used as outdoor living spaces during the warmer months. At the heart of the city lies the great monastery of The 3 Gods, unlike in other cities which have separate monasteries for the three Gods, this temple combines them as a display of unity between the three sects. The massive structure dominates the skyline, with its towering walls and intricate carvings. The monastery is home to a community of monks, who dedicate their lives to the study and practice of Tonpa. Surrounding the monastery are the homes of the nobility, who are known for their wealth and power. These grand estates are filled with beautiful gardens and courtyards, and are often adorned with intricate carvings and colorful murals. Outside the city walls, the landscape is dotted with small villages and nomadic encampments. These communities are home to herders and farmers, who make their living tending to the region's yaks and sheep. Despite its remote location, Dharmaling is a city of great importance, both culturally and politically. It is a place of pilgrimage for Monks, Merchants and laypeople from all over the world, and is also a hub of trade and commerce. The people of Dharmaling are proud of their heritage and their way of life, and are fiercely protective of their city and its traditions.
A 30 minute walk to the west of Dharmaling lies the Temple of Tong Thang, the Beehive Temple, as visitors approach the temple, they are greeted by the gentle humming of bees that buzz around the entrance, seemingly inviting them inside, the entrance is adorned with ornate wooden doors intricately carved with depictions of bees in flight, the temple is home to hundreds of bee colonies. The interior of the temple is a marvel of craftsmanship. The walls are adorned with honeycomb patterns carved into the stone, creating a mesmerizing visual display. Soft light filters through small openings in the dome-shaped ceiling, the centerpiece of the temple is a large altar made of honey-colored stone, adorned with intricate carvings of bees and honeycombs, where devotees offer their prayers and offerings. The Temple of Thong Tang is a place of worship dedicated to the reverence of bees and their significance in nature and the cycle of life, every day priests and priestesses of The Mother make their way to the temple to tend to the bees, bringing them water and sliced fruits, every year there is a festival outside the temple where priests and priestesses of Caihong distribute honey gathered from the bees.
Monyul is home to a large lake called Jangchub Tso, the lake is bordered by lush green forests and snow-capped mountains to the south-east, a product of Monyul's border with Taishigang.
On the edge of the lake there is a large city called "Gangri Thang", which is known for its fish markets and skilled boatwrights, nobles from the surrounding Kingdoms often commission boatwrights from Gangri Thang to build grand freshwater barges for them.
Several villages surround the lake, mostly fishing and farming communities, every spring fishermen from these villages make their way to Gangri Thang with hundreds of fish, hoping to hock their catch to fishmongers, tourists and Company of the Wind officers.
The fish they carry is mainly the several species of trout that live in the lake but a few of the lucky ones carry the Golden Mahseer, a gleaming fish variety that is said to be very difficult to catch, although the taste of the fish pales in comparison to the trout, the Golden Mahseer is revered for its scales that give off a vibrant golden glow, these scales are often used in ceremonial dress of the region adoring clothing and jewellery.
The people of Monyul are also skilled artisans, known for their intricate weavings and pottery. The kingdom is home to many workshops and marketplaces, where merchants sell their wares to buyers from all over the region. The people of Monyul are known for their skill at horsemanship, and the kingdom is home to some of the finest cavalry units in the region. The army of Monyul is also composed of archers and spearmen, who are trained in the art of mounted combat and guerrilla warfare.
The most prestigious regiment of Monyul is a cavalry unit called the White Tigers, the horsemasters of the White Tigers are known as the strictest in the Tonpa Kingdoms, if a horse fails a single training drill both the horse and rider are deemed unworthy. The White Tigers main weapon is a thick spear, painted red with a bronze spearhead, it has a heavy counterweight at the back that also doubles as a blunt weapon. Their secondary weapons are a heavy sword and a short bow.

2023.06.06 22:06 BrandohDaha Varieties of Dædraphilic Worship

To the judicious and impartial reader,
twelve blessings to you. As you most probably well know I was honoured with a I probably don’t need to stress it, but let me just briefly state that it was a tremendous honour for all entire household and, of course, To educate future archking is a grave task as much as it is a great privilege. I hope that his tender years.
I would like to acknowledge help which was provided by the Chair of were procured for me for this task alone, almost all of them smuggled through the border with Ashenheart or Nibennûl. I do well know that it yet still I feel personally obliged to all brave mer and womer who my humble person.
To all those who participated in rumours, in gossip and in slander: it is of course beneath me to address you . Nevertheless I implore you to please consider oaths you have taken before altars of Hœrmius the All-Faced when you took your educational charge. All knowledge is worthy and pious if it serves others. Let the reader understand.
Lightlady and All the Divinites be with you.
Ossinda-ta-Ædramalada, emeritus, previously at Cay-tar University
---
Here is a brief description of all of the Ten Dædric Princes who rule over the Oblivion, who are known among Men of the East as Voices or as .
ALD AKAT: The Madgod, The Great Wyrm, The Grand Dragon: it is a mad god of cruelty, destruction, blasphemy and devastation. He is a cacophony of roaring voices speaking with tongues of black, living flame. Of all the Princes he alone receives almost no cultus or any other form of organized worship. Only the deranged and dregs of society call upon the name of the Great Wyrm. Cultists of Ald Akat regularly indulge in cannibalism as a perverse form of establishing complete control over others. > time, <>, is an arrow which pierces the sun>
ARK: The Grim God, Endless One, Blackmoon, Gray Lady: it is a god and goddess of undeath, pain, struggle and obsession. Those who pray to Ark are divided as to his or her gender. As far as I am aware in the south Ark is more traditionally depicted as a female, while in the east it’s usually a man. It matters little. Cultus of Ark is devoted to one aim only: rejection of the flesh and life and embracing state of undeath. Ark is Prince of those who strive to overcome mortality and achieve perfection in endless existence. Overall those who pray to the Endless One are considered to be one of the rather harmless dædraphilics, though one should always have in mind that they are exceptionally callous, ruthless and determined in their goals. Hunting down those who embrace cultus of Ark is one of the main tenets of Peryiatic faith.

HROLL STAINDARR: The Pale Bull, Horned God, Silent Lord, King of Beyond-the-Twilight: it is a god of tyranny, domination, rule of might, industry and divide. Hroll Staindarr is considered to be among the most powerful of all the Princes. His oblivial domains are vast and strong. Denizens of his Chained Countries toil in endless mists and everlasting twilight under direction of merciless lesser dædra who serve the Horned God. Prince himself never speaks, always communicating through his messengers, a group of powerful demigods called the Vigilants. Silent Lord commands his followers to dominate lesser beings, to show their mastery through industry and endeavour, to always seek betterment of themselves and ultimate freedom which lies in independency. Weak must fear the strong is one of the most popular Staindarrite dogmas. Cultus of the Pale Bull is an official state religion of mannish realm of Ashenheart. Men who live there believe that their reigning queens-priestesses are selected wives of the god, who himself incarnated and resides deep within the Living Flame, greatest volcano in all of Tamriel.

KYNÆRAT: Heavensqueen, White Raven, The Vengeful: it is a goddess of the hunt, of revenge, schemes, plots and hate. Capricious Heavensqueen is one of the greatest of all the Dædra. She rules over a vast oblivial realm resembling endless mountaintops and snowy valleys, where giant birds prey on the weak and lost. She demands of her followers to follow their instincts, to bring her glory through fair chase and hunting, to take revenge for all slights. Cultus of Kynærat is a public religion of Nibennûl. Man-bull descendants of one of her many, many demigod sons still rule there in the south and claim divine right over all of the world.

2023.06.06 21:41 GB_9 October 4 Day Itinerary Advice/Suggestions

Good day everyone,
I'm planning a somewhat last minute 4 day/3 night weekday visit in early/mid October with some buddies and wanted some advice after doing a bit of research. This will be our first time visiting the park and although October is not exactly ideal season to visit, it's the only time that works best with our schedule and most roads/hikes seem to still be accessible around this time. We understand that most of the falls will no longer be active, and any chance at securing a half dome permit this late (or if the poles are even up) is basically out of consideration. Because of this we've decided to skip the Mist trail/half dome and UppeLower Yosemite falls. Hopefully we are able to secure a campsite within the valley but if not we plan on staying in Wawona, Crane Flat/Bridalveil Creek (depending on construction completion). Our rough draft itinerary looks like:

Day 1 (Mon): Arrive as early as possible (est. 9-10am) and take this day to really just explore the valley/village and the touristy aspects of the area. Maybe do Cook's Meadow loop, but our drive will be long so no strenuous hikes are planned day 1. Artist Point/Inspiration Point planned for sunset.
Day 2 (Tue): 4 Mile trail from the valley to Glacier Point. Some in the friends group will probably head back down the same route, I would like to continue down through the Panorama trail and loop back to the valley through the JMT and shuttle back to the starting point. I'm in decent shape and can routinely do 8-10 miles with 1500ft in elevation gain without much difficulty, but I'm still curious if anyone thinks I'll be punching above my weight trying this.
EDIT: Just became aware that the JMT is closed from the Panorama trail junction to Clark point, making the "loop" impossible as of right now. 4 Mile trail to Glacier Point and back will be the tentative plan unless that section of the trail opens prior to our arrival.
Day 3 (Wed): Clouds Rest from Tenaya Lake. Planning on an early start, some friends might not want to summit so may head back after initial summit and hang out by the lake. Again, input appreciated on just how feasible this is at 8,000ft for someone who doesn't have a massive amount of experience with high altitude hiking.
Day 4 (Thu): We'll be heading back home in the afternoon through the south exit of the park, so planning on doing the Taft Point/Sentinel Dome loop from Glacier Point first thing in the morning.
Which brings me to my questions:
  • Are the Mist trail/Yosemite Falls essential for a first timer even if the falls are not flowing? I'll be visiting the park again next year to see the falls when they're active and to hopefully summit Half Dome, so not exactly worried about missing out on them this time around unless you believe they are absolutely necessary.
  • Does anybody have any information on shuttle operating hours in October? From what I understand they're operating but just at less frequency/start later and end earlier in the day.
  • Anybody have a preferred must see photo stop or sunrise/sunset spot at this time of the year? Would love to take advantage and appreciate any changes in foliage.
  • Anything else you believe are must see for first timers that should take priority in our itinerary or that we can squeeze into our schedules? This can be a hike, a specific gift shop, a meal to try, or any other unique experience within the park.

Obstruct By Lightning

Are we on indictment watch? Let’s get ahead of ourselves this fine Monday.
  • As the Justice Department’s Special Counsel Jack Smith wraps up his investigation of disgraced former president Donald Trump’s (DFPDT’s) “mishandling” of classified White House documents, it looks like a new evidence bomb just dropped. According to a source close to DFPDT, a Mar-a-Lago employee drained the resort’s swimming pool last October and consequently flooded a room where computer servers containing surveillance-video logs were kept.
  • It’s unclear if the room was flooded intentionally or accidentally, but we have an educated guess! And we’re not the only ones. This incident occurred as part of a series of events that federal prosecutors found suspicious. At least one witness there has been questioned by federal investigators about the flooded server room, which came roughly two months after the FBI retrieved hundreds of classified documents from Trump’s Florida residence.
  • Federal prosecutors have been looking into efforts by Trump and his employees to obstruct the DOJ’s investigation after Trump received a subpoena to hand over any classified documents in his possession in May 2022, which he mostly did not, as we found out after the August FBI raid of Mar-A-Lago. At least 20 people—members of Trump’s inner circle as well as Mar-a-Lago staff—have been subpoenaed to testify in front of the federal grand jury.
Each new detail in the evidence pile points to overt corruption and obstruction of justice by Trump and his lackeys, and his legal team can sense that the walls are (maybe this time for real?) closing in.
  • In April, Trump’s legal team protested that the classified-documents theft should be investigated as an administrative, rather than a criminal, matter. In late May, two of Trump’s lawyers sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland asking for a personal meeting to discuss what they characterized as “unfair treatment” of their client (lol) by Special Counsel Jack Smith. Lawyers asking for a meeting with DOJ officials in a federal case on behalf of their client is not unusual. Asking for a private audience with the attorney general is. On Monday, Trump’s cadre of lawyers made asked DOJ officials if the department would, pretty please, not charge Trump for stealing classified documents from the White House after leaving office.
  • All of this is to say nothing of the myriad other investigations of Trump’s contemporaneous crimes. In the past week, the Fulton County, GA, district attorney has been zeroing-in on two firms hired by the Trump campaign to “study” the question of electoral fraud in the 2020 election. The DA’s office has asked the firms for both data and information about Georgia, but also for communications with Trump officials and a detailed accounting of the campaign’s activities in other states, as prosecutors aim to build a broader racketeering case. Earlier this year, federal prosecutors obtained evidence from one of the firms, Berkeley Research Group, that Trump’s White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had berated its employees for not giving him sufficient evidence to overturn the election results and “encouraged” them to find fraud that didn’t exist.
Big legal consequences for Trump’s shameless crime streak could finally be on the horizon. Be there, will be wild!

Look No Further Than Crooked Media

Pride is about fighting the freaks, but also acknowledging the fact that being gay and trans and even bi is a great time. Since this is America, we're celebrating that by making stupid memes and buying stuff.

Under The Radar

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission filed a complaint in federal court on Monday listing 13 charges against cryptocurrency-exchange company Binance and its CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao. The SEC alleges that Zhao operated a “web of deception” and that Binance artificially inflated its trading numbers, diverted customer funds, failed to restrict U.S. customers from its platform, and lied to investors about its market-surveillance capabilities. Further, the claims allege that Binance and Zhao secretly controlled customer assets and allowed them to commingle and divert investor funds, which, in legal terms, is a big no-no. Binance is the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, and this lawsuit marks the second time this year that federal authorities have accused the company of evading laws designed to protect investors in the United States.

What Else?

Saudi Arabia announced it would make significant cuts to its oil output in July, compounding a broader OPEC deal to limit supply in order to inflate oil prices. Cool! Love those guys!
The IRS is readying its free online tax-filing pilot program for rollout as early as next year, so the major tax-prep corporations are arming themselves with a deep bench of lobbyists. Cool! Love those guys!
Someone bought a shitload of shares in Equitrans Midstream Corp—the company heavily involved in the long-delayed Mountain Valley Pipeline—days before the debt ceiling (which greenlit the pipeline) was announced, suggesting that the special someone in question did insider trading.
An investigation by California Attorney General Rob Bonta found that the state of Florida transported asylum-seeking migrants from the Texas border by private jet to California’s capital city of Sacramento on Monday as yet another inhumane stunt performed on the Florida taxpayers’ dime, the second in four days. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) did not mince words in excoriating Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), calling him a “small, pathetic man,” (get his ass, Gavin) and raising the prospect of kidnapping charges.
A Utah school district has banned the Bible in elementary and middle schools for “vulgarity and violence.” Sorry kids, no Song of Songs for you, it’s too horny.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) claimed she intentionally skipped the debt-limit vote as a “silent protest” but a new video shows her running up the steps on her way to vote in a panic, then learning she had missed it.
A private plane flying over Washington, DC, crashed in Northern Virginia on Sunday, killing all four passengers. F-16 fighter jets were deployed to intercept the plane while it was still in the air, causing a sonic boom heard across the region, but were unsuccessful.
Former Vice President Mike Pence has officially filed paperwork to launch his 2024 presidential campaign. Someone tell Mother!
Waning voter turnout in the blue stronghold of Philadelphia has the Democratic Party worrying about 2024.

Be Smarter

The Kremlin’s Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian army thwarted a major Ukranian attack in Donetsk, releasing a video showing military vehicles under heavy fire. Moscow claims their forces killed 300 troops and destroyed 16 tanks, but that has yet to be independently verified. Ukraine’s military spokesperson, however, said on Monday that the country had no information about a major attack on the key region. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said in an interview on Monday that the country’s long-awaited counteroffensive is “taking place in several directions,” furthering speculation that the campaign to recapture land held by Russian forces is already underway. The counteroffensive has lofty stakes: Kyiv needs to show its people and its Western allies that it can push back advances Russia has made over the winter and early spring.

2023.06.06 08:53 lifelesslies RP led my family in a different direction

Started a haesty game for a nice rp tours game to form the catholic Norman's in France and maybe crusade later. However I wanted to direct the game based on events and my characters personality. I didn't want to force convert cause that was the game I wanted. It did not go the way I thought and I'm glad for it.
So far. I had managed to take Normandy after killing the king, unfortunately my haesty became incapable shortly after and for about 20 years my ability to do anything was limited. his son Ragnar also died in battle. the only gains made in these years was the taking of the isle of mon, to act as a drop-off point for raid loot. which is where Ragnar died.
upon haestys death his grandson, a diplomatic and cunning zealous man named Filbert came to rule the jarldom. He, being a wise man saw that his kingdom was positioned between two superpowers. England and france and began scheming to secure his position. however France declared a holy war to take the lands of Normandy but were barely held back. at several points i considered swapping faiths to not lose the game, but the zealous nature of my character held my action. a timely ally from Sweden though saved me becoming my best friend. This failed war caused a large amount of internal strife in france.
England was strong and France weak. but the strong hook that he held on the king of England and the chaos in France created by Filbert convinced him to swear fealty for religious protections to england. he could not turn his back on his gods now. then to use his hook to secure a place on the kings council and a March contract.
being a man of the old gods. Filbert began to raid the south of al andalus which had shattered. orchestrating a prisoner exchange economy from his desk in France. Filbert built all the holdings that he could and increased his professional army to include max huscarls and veterans with onagers.
Filbert died of cancer in his 50s. leaving a vast amount of wealth to his own son a man with an incredible aptitude for stewardship. Filbert II.
Filbert II spent his reign further increasing the wealth his family attained by kidnapping and ransoming foreign nobles. He also worked secretly behind his kings back. gaining another strong hook and further lowering his own contributions to the crown.
Filbert II was ambitious, gregarious and patient. he plotted and eventually maneuvered his way to a claim on the throne of England itself. while training his own son and heir Filbert III to be an acclaimed knight, sponsoring his tourneys and outfitting him in prestige gear. his son needed to appear as a king, you see.
Too early however Filbert II was unexpectedly thrown violently from his horse killing him instantly and bugging my game out and needing a restart. Filbert II. the great builder and the man with the plan was dead. Leaving Filbert III to rule at the tender age of 19. the boy with a head of wrath and a need to prove himself. contained only by the will of his fathers grand plan.
Filbert III left the tourneys of western Europe and joined his crews in their families man export. people. to get back to the roots of his religion as a zealous and wrath filled man. He spent all his time at sea striking at those embroiled in war and those who had no chance. Filbert III was known throughout Europe as a viking by the time he was 35. he returned to the tourney fields and to attend to his own lands. having completely ignored the workings of his kings court, the thing he knew his own father cared so much about. he did after all still hold and unpressed claim for England.
England however was far too powerful at the time to be conquered. the crown had grown strong in his absence. Filbert III, who was not a patient man did not do well languishing in court. he instead chose violence against his neighbor. a man who defeated him at a tourney. the Duke of Brittany. after a bloody war where the Duke of Brittany was executed and his son forced to sign the treaty Filbert III was too full of blood lust to stop and marched the short distance to Paris and forced the king to grant him the lands of Flanders at the tip of a sword. the king of England however decided to revoke the duchy of Flanders shortly after while Filberts troops were recovering. A thing Filbert III did not forget..
It was around this time that the king of England died mysteriously, and the realm unexpectedly split. creating the kingdom of Brittany. my own new leige was a craven man who held only one county in nantes. this I could not abide. so I called for a dissolution war and with little resistance, my leiges title was destroyed and Filbert III was an independent 3x duke. he could return to the fold and serve the English king, claim the kingship of England or..
free from England filbert III once again took up his raider ways and took the isle of mon from a distant relation to use as a raid base and proceeded to sack the country his father once intended him to rule.. conquoring duchies and granting them to members of his family for nearly 50 years. finally a living legend Filbert III had a choice. to form his own kingdom. a kingdom of salt and iron.
The Kingdom of Mon was formed.

2023.06.06 04:28 Chance_Catch_5676 Is 12-15 hrs of unpaid training for an independent contractor position normal? I have 5 years experience in home health. I’m ticked off and not sure if I’m in the wrong here.

I’ve been an independent contractor in HH since 2018. It’s my main source of income/full-time job. Been a little slow lately so I reached out to another agency to pick up pts. Filled out all the paperwork/contract, sent in credentials, etc. Told them I’d be able to see 1-2 new patients/wk for eval, treats. Just got an email today nonchalantly asking me to come in next Mon-Fri, 1-4 PM for training! Also asked me to come in anytime this week for a 1-2 hr skills/competency eval. Office is 30 minutes away from my home. Is this normal? Am I wrong to think it’s a ridiculous request on their part? Genuinely asking as I’ve never been asked to train for more than 1-2 hrs for any of my other companies. Especially as a contractor. Feels like I’d just be losing money not seeing patients next week. Maybe I’m wrong? Thanks all for your insight.

2023.06.06 03:00 ju1cycoco 3 Weeks in Japan - Please Help! (Including Iya Valley, Shimanami Kaido, and Climbing Mt Fuji)

Hi all,
Will be travelling to Japan for the first time, 3 weeks (Aug 22 - Sep 12). I've done plenty of research and spent lots of time creating this, so I would really appreciate feedback on how feasible this itinerary is. I understand that it is a lot, so please let me know if I can do everything or if I should cut some cities out and stay longer in one place.
I will keep the day-to-day activities brief, as I'm looking for how feasible the dates in each city are with travel times.
Tues August 22 - Thurs August 24: TOKYO
-Will be arriving on Tues evening via Narita Airport, any suggestions on what to do as soon as we arrive? -Planned typical landmark attractions, including a day trip to Yokohama
Fri August 25 - Wed August 30: OSAKA/KYOTO/KOBE/NARA
From Tokyo - Kyoto: 3 hours via JR Train -Staying in Osaka as a base, with last night (Wed) in Kobe -Dotonbori, day trip to Nara, watching Hanshin tigers at oldest baseball stadium in Japan
Thurs August 31 - Sat September 2: IYA VALLEY (Oboke)
From Kobe - Oboke: 3 hours via JR Train -River rafting tour, vine bridges, relax -Planning on taking public transport around, any suggestions/tips?
Sat September 2: KOCHI
-1.5 hours away from Iya Valley via JR Train -Hirome Market, Kochi Castle, anything else recommended?
Sun September 3: KOCHI / MATSUYAMA
Breakfast in Kochi, then hop on the train (~3 hours) to Matsuyama -Dogo Onsen -Main reason to go here is for Shimanami Kaido
Mon September 4: IMABARI / SHIMANAMI KAIDO CYCLING
From Matsuyama - Imabari: 35 minutes via JR Train -Starting as early as the bike rental places open -Dolce Ice cream, any suggestions on where else to stop? Was thinking bunny island but heard mixed reviews -Stay the night on one of the islands, not sure which and exactly where yet
Tues September 5 - Wed September 6: ONOMICHI
Finish the Kaido Tuesday noon and arrive in Onomichi -A good onsen bath reward after the biking -Senkoji Ropeway
Thurs Sep 7 - Fri Sep 8: NAGOYA
-Breakfast in Onomichi, then hop on the train Onomichi - Nagoya: 3 hours via JR Train
Sat September 9: CLIMB MT FUJI
Take train from Nagoya - Shin-Fuji Station - Fujinomiya Trail 5th Station: (1.5 hours + 2.5 hours = 4 hours total)
-Fujinomiya trail takes 5 hours to the summit, so we are thinking of starting the climb around noon to see the sunset/sunrise (do people usually do this?) -Stay on hut overnight, continue hike for sunrise -(Hoping we can actually ascend, as the website says the last day of the season is September 10)
Sunday September 10: LAKE KAWAGUCHIKO
-Ascend via Yoshida Trail and transit to resort -Relax for rest of day
Monday September 11: LAKE KAWAGUCHIKO / TOKYO
-Spend morning at Fuji Q -Train back to Tokyo (2 hours)
Tuesday September 12: Fly home!
About us: We are an extremely active couple so lots of hiking and physical activities, nature, scenery, lots of good food and nightlife, going off-the-beaten track, but also interested in shopping, drinking (not too crazy) and touristy destinations as well!
General questions: -3 week JR pass is definitely worth it for my trip? -What data options for phone is suitable for a 3 week stay? -If stayed in any of the cities mentioned above, how much time did you need in each city? How much did you budget for? -If you've been to Shikoku Island, should we skip Kochi and go straight to Matsuyama from Iya Valley (and have an extra night in Iya Valley or Matsuyama)?
I sincerely thank you in advance and look forward to updating a trip report to return the favor of this subreddit!
