2017 Cleveland: +3.1
2020 Miami: +2.9
2018 Cleveland: +1.0
2023 Miami: -0.3
Obviously Miami ranks the lowest on the list, as the only team to have a negative regular season point differential.
In their defense, they've felt like a different team in the playoffs. And in Denver's defense, the Nuggets did take their foot off the gas during the last month of the regular season after they wrapped up the # 1 seed.
As a side note: teams with the highest differential between the two opponents were 16-7 in the Finals.

2023.06.03 22:07 MissSweetCandyCoco Toon Cards Guide And Sample Toon Deck!~

Greetings everyone! I have been a Yugioh player for a couple of years now, and I have pretty much EXCLUSIVELY used only one deck. That being the wonderfully cute toons!~ This post is my deck list and me describing each cards main uses and stuff like that!~ The raw deck will be at the end! Keep in mind I would call myself a casual/beginner duelist. So any ideas for better cards would be wonderful in the comments! Keep in mind this is not a pub stomping meta defining deck. This is simply a fun deck that works for me and that I love a lot!~ I am very passionate about toons and would love to hear any and all feedback from you!~ Do keep in mind that this is all just a suggestion and any cards you do not like can be replaced with ones you do like!~ All of this is just a taste of what toons can be and if they are right for you!~
General Toon Shenanigans: Summoning sickness is one of the most important things to toons. All toons are effected by this (unless stated otherwise). This basically means that toons can not attack the turn they are summoned. This is why it is INCREDIBLY POWERFUL for you to go first. Going first will allow you to basically ignore summoning sickness, because they ALREADY can not attack on the first turn. That is not to say that going second is a death sentence. Far from it actually, it just means that you will need a slightly different strategy for both second and first turn plays. The other main thing about toons is their ability to attack directly! Most of the time you are not gonna be interacting with your opponents monsters really ever unless you are taking control of them with Comic hand or if you are destroying them with Toon Black Luster Soldiers ability. FILL YOUR EXTRA DECK. You don’t need any extra deck monsters for this. So just fill it up with random crap you have.
(TBSOL) The Black Stone Of Legend X3: This card is a very great starter for putting some cards on the field! This card allows you to grab a Red Eyes Toon Dragon (RETD) on the field! It also has the side effect of being able to resummon itself, but I never really use that ability and it's never really helpful in any scenario. You are MOSTLY using this to pull out your RETD to start up some combos. Pretty useful whenever you get it. But it is very easily negatable.
Toon Mermaid, Toon Gemini Elf, Toon Dark Magician Girl: These three are mostly toon card fodder. Sometimes you need to summon SOMETHING on your side of the field, and I chose these three. These are never gonna be game changers, but if i need something quick to pull out, I tend to choose these. These cards are easily replaceable by three toon or non toon cards of your choice!
(RETD) Red Eyes Toon Dragon X3: RETD is a staple in your deck and is one of your three ACTUALLY IMPORTANT monster cards. This card has the effect of being able to special summon ANY toon monster in your hand, ignoring their summoning conditions. This is your bread and butter. You will (generally) use this to pull out Toon Dark Magician (TDM) or Toon Black Luster Soldier (TBLS). Pulling out TDM will generally be more important than pulling out TBLS with this ability. Though sometimes you just gotta summon what you got. This card is a GREAT target for TDM’s ability. Keep in mind, you can NOT special summon another copy of RETD with this ability.
(TDM) Toon Dark Magician X3: TDM is your second actually important card! This card has two effects. When you sacrifice one toon monster from your hand, and you can either add one toon spell or trap card to your hand, or special summon one toon monster to the field. Generally speaking, you will use this to summon either RETD or TBLS. OR~ You can use this to get one of many good spells that you need. Such as Toon Bookmark, Comic Hand, Toon Kingdom, or any others you like! This is great to get powerful monsters or powerful spells into the game! TDM is a very useful card at any point in the game. Summoning him through the various different methods you have at your fingertips is always a good plan!
(TBLS) Toon Black Luster Soldier X3: TBLS is your third most important card! This big boy is your killer! You can summon him from the deck using TDM, you can summon him from the hand using RETD, you can summon him by sacrificing two cards that add up too or is more than 8 card levels, you can summon him with Toon Page Flip (TPF). This card is quite possibly the easiest card to summon in the whole deck. With this card, if you go second, you can OTK your opponent. This card has the unique ability of having NO summoning sickness, meaning when you summon it, it can attack like any other normal card. Along with this, it has the ability to be able to choose one card and banish it. Though you can not do both in the same turn. If you are able to summon all three in one turn to your side of the field, you could possibly OTK if you are going second. This card is basically this deck's boss monster.
(TTOC) Toon Table Of Contents X3: This card has the simple effect of searching out any card in your deck that has “Toon” in its name. So NO comic hand can be summoned with this. This card is pretty important. If its your turn, and you have this card along with other cards that let you touch your deck, summon THIS ONE FIRST. If the opponent has a negate or an “ass-blossom and no joy” in their hand and chooses to negate it, you can use another one of your better deck touching cards without any resistance. This card is also great for pulling out Toon Book Mark. Basically use this to pull Toon Book Mark (if you don’t have one in your hand), and then use Toon Book Mark to search for something you actually want.
(AOD) Allure of Darkness X3: This card is very simple. Its a draw two but you have to discard one dark type monster. You have 10 total dark type monsters in this deck. Only use this when you have one of them in your hand. Or if you have no other cards in your hand.
(ST) Shadow Toon X1: If Toon Kingdom is up, you can use this spell to target one of their monsters, and they take as much damage as however much ATK their monster has. This is just a good all around card. Use it if you got it. You can also search this out if they are low on LP and just kill them.
(POE) Pot Of Extravagance X3: This card is super simple. Use this at the start of your turn, it will let you draw 2 cards. The only card this card messes with is Allure of Darkness. Everything else can still be played. This is BASICALLY just a pot of greed. Make sure your extra deck is filled with random cards.
(TBM) Toon Bookmark X3: This card is your bread and butter! When this card is used, you can pull any card with Toon World in the card’s effect and put it in your hand. THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE ONCE PER TURN. Don’t try to use two. Once this card is used, it will be sent to the graveyard. Where, if your Toon Kingdom is targeted for destruction, you can save it with toon bookmark by banishing toon bookmark. This is extremely useful and you should always try to have one in the graveyard. Try to use TTOC to pull this out, or use TDM’s effect to take this out THEN pull whichever toon card you want into your hand.
(CH) Comic Hand X3: ZA HANDO is a powerful card that will help you OTK. This card will equip to one of your enemies cards and let you take control of them. This card is now treated as a toon. Meaning, it can attack directly, and TK will defend it if someone tries to destroy it. This card can OTK if you pick the right target/s. This card is VITAL when you are going second, as you can just…steal the enemies boss monster.
(TK) Toon Kingdom X3: Toon Kingdom is the field spell this entire deck relies on. Nothing can really do anything unless this guy is in play. When you summon it, it will banish 3 of your cards from your deck. Then, once it is on the field, your monsters can start using their effects. If one of your cards is to be destroyed or attacked and destroyed, you can use Toon Kingdom’s effect to protect them, at the cost of banishing one card from your deck. This card should ALWAYS be searched out somehow. Along with this, Toon Bookmark will protect it at all times as long as you have it in your graveyard. So searching this out with Toon Bookmark is a valid strategy.
(TT) Twin Twisters X2: Very simple card. Discard one card, destroy two enemy spells or traps. This card is useful in any deck. No real strategy involved.
(TPF) Toon Page Flip X3: This card will let you choose 3 monster cards from your deck, and will special summon one of them at random. GENERALLY SPEAKING you will choose TDM, RETD, and TBLS as your three. However, this is one of the MAIN REASONS why you should run those three monsters that i stated before. Because, if for some reason, lets say, all three copies of TDM are banished from TK. Then this card is worthless as you can not select 3 monsters. So, make sure to run OTHER targets for this card incase the true 3 targets are MIA.
(WS) Witch’s Strike X1: HEAR ME OUT. LET ME COOK. If you get this card first turn, you can set it. Most people will be trying to delete your toon kingdom rather than caring about any card that you set in your back row. Nobody EVER expects Witch’s strike. The chance of the opponent wanting to destroy this card over wanting to destroy your toon kingdom or any other spells you may have out is nearly zero. And, if your opponent tries to use a negate on your SECOND TURN… BOOM all of their cards are sent to the grave yard. This card can be replaced with anything you want. BUUUUUUUT, I think this card is very funny and fits well with the silly theme of the deck!
Going first: Lets say you are going first. Thats great! That is ideal for this deck. And you draw TBSOL, TBM, TTOC, TDM and TBLS in your starting hand. Great! You are gonna wanna use TTOC first. Lets say they have Ass Blossom and No Joy and the negate that effect! Great! You now use TBM to pull your TK out of your deck and summon your TK. After this, You summon TBSOL and use its effect to Special Summon RETD from your deck. You then use RETD’s effect to pull TDM from your hand to the field, then you use TDM’s second effect to delete TBLS and take out CH and end your turn. Now, your TK is safe because you have TBM in your graveyard. Your monsters are safe because you have TK on the field, and now you have Comic hand so you can possibly take one card from your enemy if they summon one! Leaving you able to kill them on your second turn.
Going Second: Never fear! Lets say you have to go second. Thats cool! Lets also assume they have at least one card that can negate anything you do. Lets start with the same starting hand as last time. So you draw TBSOL, TBM, TTOC, TDM and TBLS, then draw POE. First you use POE, and your opponent obviously negates that. You would now use your TBSOL to pull out RETD, you then use that to pull out your TDM. You then use TDM to sacrifice TBLS to be able to pull CH. you then use TBM to pull TK and summon TK. You then use your TTOC to pull TPF. You get TBLS on the field with that, and then use comic hand to steal their strong monster. Allowing you to do 3000+ however much their monster can do.
Thats all just a sample of what Toons can do! Keep in mind this is all super beginner minded as this is my one and only deck and I have basically only just started playing the game! I would love suggestions in the comments!~

2023.06.03 21:26 kateincali Connecting with homeless services?

Looking for recommendations on how to connect to homeless services from those who have experience. Please do not suggest 211 - we have called so many places and all we’ve gotten out of intake forms is being added to a bunch of spam lists.
My mom and I have been unable to find a rental since losing ours to owner family move in. We were expecting move out funds we were legally entitled to but their release is being contested by a claim we moved out late, despite this all going through court already. Fully aware of being priced out of SD, we’re currently up in Twentynine Palms looking at places but haven’t found one, and we don’t have endless motel funds or the ability to travel to, say, middle of nowhere Georgia (which has a super cute house for $800 that I love, but has also been for rent for 200+ days so I assume the town has a vampire problem or something.)
My mom is 68 with a cancer diagnosis, plus other medical issues, including a nearly blinding cataract in one eye and a prolapsed uterus with constant bleeding issues. She desperately needs treatment but has not been able to get insurance coverage (this is a long thing where medi-cal is saying she didn’t have coverage for a blood clot when she did, and that she needs to clear that $15k debt before receiving any “non-emergency” care. Not sure how something growing out out her head isn’t an emergency, but whatever…)
There are no small children involved and neither of us have a drug or alcohol problem. We do have two small poodles we will absolutely not part with.
My mom has work starting back up again in San Diego soon, so we’ll likely have to travel back. For those who have been in similar situations, is it best to go to one of the car lots where they let you sleep and there are case workers there? Is there a more responsive office of anything somewhere?
I appreciate any suggestions during this difficult time. Thank you.

2023.06.03 20:40 throwstuff165 The Case(on) for Wallace: Some musings on the potential fit of one of our theoretical PG options in the Draft.

Apologies for the pun in the title, but the fruit was hanging too low to pass up. And apologies as well to the folks here that think the word “trade” is an affront to their Spurs fandom, but until the draft gets here in a few more weeks, there’s going to continue to be discussion around making a move for another first-round pick, presumably to address the long-term-PG-shaped hole in the roster right now.
Based on a few polls that have popped up on this sub lately, it seems like most people here (including u/paxusromanus811, whose opinions as a draft evaluator and Spurs fan are some that I greatly respect) like Anthony Black the best of our presumed options, but everyone seems to recognize that it might be hard to find a trade partner in his projected range. Amen Thompson is a fun pipe dream, but I’m incredibly wary of the fact that he and his twin were overagers in the mess that is OTE, and I don’t know if I’m a believer in his shot ever being fixed, either. Then you’ve got Kobe Bufkin, who’s been a bit of a late riser as a jack-of-all-trades sophomore but isn’t quite as polished as a defender or playmaker.
I like all three of those guys quite a bit, and if the Spurs end up with any of them on the 22nd I’ll be very pleased. But I wanted to take a little time to focus on Cason Wallace, because I think if you told me we had our pick between any of the guard prospects in the first round outside of Scoot, I’d want him. That’s not to say I’d bet on him being the “best” player of the four in 10 years (though I don’t think that’s impossible), but I think he fits in the best with what the San Antonio identity is going to be now and in the future. I think the advantages that the other guys have over him are of less consequence to the Spurs than vice versa.
OVERVIEW
The Spurs have a lot of player development to focus on this year. Wemby is going to command a lot of usage for obvious reasons. Sochan’s second season is going to be big as far as his potential progression as a shooter and playmaker while also likely getting some run as an actual point forward / lead ball handler. Branham probably isn’t suited to be a PG, and running him in that position too much carries a risk of hampering his growth as the smooth scoring SG he’s meant to be.
Enter Cason Wallace, who could bring some really valuable versatility. He spent the first half of the season with Kentucky as a movement C&S guy, then took over as the starting PG in a very ball-dominant role after Sahvir Wheeler went down. He had success in both roles, and combined with his overall high level of understanding of the game, he’d be the perfect complement for the roster now and in the future - he can be a high-level kickout option and floor spacer for possessions where we want Victor or Jeremy or Vassell to mostly run the show, but he can also competently run the offense as the lead at any given time as well.
SHOOTING
Wallace shot 34.6% from 3-point range this season, which is good but not amazing. That number needs a little context, though. In the fifteen games before January 10, he shot 41.9% from 3 on 4.9 attempts/game. I’m using that as the boundary point because he started to suffer back spasms on that date and pretty much just played through them for the rest of the season, where he shot 24.5% on 3.3 attempts/game. Back injuries are, generally speaking, the toughest injuries to shoot through - those muscles are involved in so much of your body movement that it’s basically impossible to maintain the same mechanics, and Wallace’s form is visibly more rigid and square in the second half of the season. His natural form is very smooth and free-flowing, but there were some games post-spasms that he was barely even getting off the ground. That Jan 10 date is also, interestingly, when he took over lead guard responsibilities, so as you can see from his 3PA/game, his catch-and-shoot opportunities went way down. Still, his 3P% ended within 1% of Bufkin’s for the full season on higher volume, so I’m comfortable calling him the most projectable spot-up shooter of the popular Spurs options.
Really, the bottom line here is that we already have Sochan, who may never be much of a shooter, and Wemby, whose shot I think will develop but isn’t guaranteed to turn into something that other teams have to gameplan for in a significant way. Without Chip Engelland still in the fold, I’d be a little concerned about adding another guy to our long-term core that needs a lot of work in that area.
Other notes:
PLAYMAKING AND CREATION
Kentucky’s adjusted offensive rating with Wheeler as the starting point guard was 109.3. After Wallace took over, that number jumped to 115.7 - top 20 in the country over that period - in what was easily the tougher half of their schedule. Much has been made about concerns over whether Wallace can truly be a lead guard, but the kid can run an offense. He put up more AST/game than Black and Bufkin on a significantly better AST/TOV ratio (over 2 to 1). Here’s the stat I don’t think is getting nearly enough attention, though: of the 86 two-pointers Wallace made this year, only 9 were assisted (9.5%). By comparison, 28.9% of Black’s and 25.4% of Bufkin’s were assisted. Marks under 10% for that stat are generally very, very good indicators that we’re looking at a skilled primary creator. It’s also probably worth noting that Black’s numbers at the rim were considerably worse than Wallace’s despite his size and the fact that he had twice as many dunks.
Other notes:
DEFENSE
This is Wallace’s calling card as far as being the skill that gives him such a high floor as a pick, and yet I still think it’s being a little underrated comparatively. Black has 3 inches of height and 15lbs on him, and is seen as a guy who’ll be able to comfortably defend 1-3 and maybe even 4s at the next level. But Wallace actually has the longer wingspan of the two (6’85” vs 6’75”) and I think he’s the more polished defender as far as fundamentals and disruptiveness. He’s deceptively strong, too. I think he’s equally capable of guarding up to 3s as well and even some small ball 4s in the vein of Andrew Wiggins or our very own Keldon Johnson - those sorts of lineups are still steadily gaining popularity. The fact that Black averaged effectively the same amount of blocks as Wallace and Bufkin despite his advantages in height and bounce is either a slightly worrying sign for Black or a big credit to the other two. Either way, the guy we’re theoretically drafting here gets to play alongside Sochan and Wemby, so even if Black does have a slight switchability advantage, I’m not convinced it’ll be all that impactful in the long run. Give me that small extra bit of refinement any day.
CONCLUSION
Wallace has some detractors for being a bit of a “safe” guard that doesn’t get too creative with his passing and playmaking, or at least he hasn’t yet. And look, some of the things Anthony Black pulls off make my jaw drop the same as everyone else’s does. But we’re Spurs fans - we saw the Beautiful Game in real time. For the most part, that wasn’t a system that relied on crazy passes but on the right passes, and on guys making smart movements to be in the right place at the right time. Even as one of the worst teams in the league last year, the Spurs were still top 3 in the NBA in assists/game and bottom 5 in TOs/game - this isn’t a system that is in desperate need of a guard to shake things up.
Wallace excels at those things, and he just comes off as a Spurs-y player in a lot of other ways too. He hustles like a madman - you couldn’t watch a Kentucky game without seeing him dive on the floor for a loose ball and running like hell to get back in transition - and is more than willing to play whatever role he has to to help his team win. And while he certainly gets fired up after some big plays, he’s a guy that mostly just goes about his business on the court. I can’t remember a time where I saw him do anything that could possibly be construed as taunting.
The Kentucky Guard Effect is something that can’t be ignored at this point, either. He isn’t the same style of player as a Tyrese Maxey or SGA, but when you go back and look at the scouting reports for those guys compared to Wallace’s, you see a lot of similarities - questions over whether they can really be a lead guard or if they have talents outside of the singular role they played as Wildcats. I’m not saying Wallace can be the next SGA, but I think a Maxey-like breakout is well within the realm of possibility. He accelerates well on drives, and even though he struggled to create significant separation at times, he’s such a good finisher that all he needs is a half step - he hardly ever got blocked. Kentucky’s spacing was supremely terrible last year, too, so Wallace should really benefit from the extra room on an NBA court. I actually think his passing creativity has also become a little underrated at this point simply by virtue of being compared to Black - he showed off some impressive reads on lobs in particular, and if he’s going to spend his career throwing alley-oops to Wembanyama he doesn’t need to get especially fancy anyway.
All in all, what you have in Wallace is someone who’s going to bottom out as a high-level role player and who could very, very easily have more to his game than that. We got to see him play two different roles as a Wildcat, which should give him plenty of priceless versatility immediately when coming into a rebuilding team with a lot of high-ceiling players to develop. But Calipari’s system never allowed him to play both roles at once, and if the Spurs are truly going to commit to this positionless basketball ideology (which they’ll have the personnel to do), that flexibility could fit in perfectly. I’m not saying Anthony Black can’t eventually develop a shot, and he’s such a smart cutter and strong finisher off the pass that he has some value off-ball already too. I just think Cason offers more to this team in that potential role right now as far as what it could mean for continued player development, and that there’s more than enough upside still there that we wouldn’t be limiting ourselves.
So, yeah, there's some draft crush propaganda for y'all today.

However, when cracks in her idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something sinister lurking below the surface, Alice can't help but question exactly what she's doing in Victory. In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone. Production companies: Warner Bros. Pictures. At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam, and so on. As DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above). “I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.) “And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we acknowledge everyone: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There are also some Easter eggs in there, too. So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term. only one can claim to be the most powerful superhero. And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel, or otherwise "By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful. There's nothing so wrong with “DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two-hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero. It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length. In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film. “They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) FULL MOVIE ONLINE Is DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Available On Hulu? Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service. Is DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Streaming on Disney Plus? Unfortunately, DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest. While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release. DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a DC: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.

Michaels says just like at WrestleMania 12, the boyhood dream will become a reality even at John Cena who he respects expense. John Cena says Shawn Michaels is an all time great, Mr. WrestleMania, The Showstopper! Bobby Lashley retains here despite Shane’s best attempts to cost him after delivering a devastating Spear to the Samoan Bulldozer.)
Extreme Rules Match for the ECW Championship:
CM Punk (c) vs Rob Van Dam vs Marcus Cor Von vs Elijah Burke
(After WrestleMania, CM Punk says that this is just the start of his rise in the WWE and one day he’ll go onto bigger things but right now, ECW is his home and he welcomes all challenges thrown his way. Vince McMahon interrupts and tells Punk he doesn’t like the thought of him being the face of ECW. Vince also says that Punk’s fantasy of going onto bigger and better things won’t happen while he’s in charge because he’s never WWE or World Championship material. McMahon says Punk will defend the ECW Championship at Backlash against 3 other men in an attempt to be proved right that Punk isn’t good enough. Vince chooses Rob Van Dam, Elijah Burke and Marcus Cor Von. Punk says Vince can stack the odds if he wants, he’ll overcome them and be the fighting champion he promised to be. Batista says Taker was the better man at WrestleMania but he took him to his limit and maintains The Deadman is like any normal man and he can slay him at Backlash. Taker promises it’ll be the same story as WrestleMania and Batista will Rest in Peace! This match ends in a draw after Batista spears Undertaker off the stage and both men fail to answer the referees count of 10.)
WWE Championship:
John Cena (c) vs Shawn Michaels vs Randy Orton vs Edge
(Shawn Michaels asks for another shot to face John Cena for the WWE Championship but is interrupted by Edge. Edge says Michaels lost at WrestleMania so he can get to the back of the line, it’s his turn to face John Cena and get revenge on him after losing the championship to him in his hometown back at Unforgiven. Randy Orton further interrupts and says Edge has also lost to John Cena so he can get to the back of the line too. Orton says he’s never faced Cena so it’s only right he gets the opportunity because he knows if he gets it, he’ll beat him! This causes tension between Edge and Orton as they’ve also just lost their titles and they officially split in the build up to this and start fighting every time they see each other. Jonathan Coachman says all 3 men have a case so at Backlash, John Cena will defend his title in a Fatal 4-Way. In all time classic main event, Shawn Michaels delivers a Sweet Chin Music to Cena who then falls on top of Orton and covers him to luckily retain the WWE Championship! Michaels can’t believe since he had the match won. Backlash draws to a close with Michaels walking backstage in utter disbelief and signals he’s not done with Cena yet.)
Notes:
(Mr. Kennedy loses the Money in the Bank briefcase against Edge on the May 7th 2007 episode of Raw.)
(The Undertaker and Batista have a rematch for the World Heavyweight Championship on the May 11th, 2007 episode of SmackDown inside of a Steel Cage. The match ends in a draw when both men escape the cage at the same time. After the match, Mark Henry returns and completely destroys an already beat up Undertaker. With a destroyed Taker down, an Ultimate Opportunist comes over from Raw and cashes in his Money in the Bank contract… Edge! Edge Spears The Undertaker twice to win the World Heavyweight Title. Druids then carry The Undertaker out of the arena and The Deadman is written off TV.)
And that’s part 44 over and done with guys. That was long, creative and an absolute pleasure to share with you great people in this community. I’ll be back very soon for part 45 where we’ll see Edge move to SmackDown, Great Khali NOT become the World Heavyweight Champion and a much better SummerSlam 2007. I also want to inform you guys that in the next part, you’ll also hear my opinion on Chris Benoit after the tragedy still sadly unfolds. Stay safe and stay tuned.

2023.06.03 19:59 moneymakergil Best Calzone in San Antonio

Bit of a weird post this is gonna be, but when a Mattenga's pizzeria opened up near me last year, I had a chance to try their calzone and really enjoyed it. I ended up looking for different restaurants that offer calzones in San Antonio and here's a list ranking the ones I've tried, in no particular order.
Pizza Hut's melt: This might not even be a calzone technically but I just wanted to include it since it is calzone like and avaliable pretty much anywhere. The crust has a consistency similar to cardboard lol
Braza Brava: Went here for my Bday, the calzone crust was kind of burnt and dry, but they did include a good amount of toppings inside to counter for that. It wasn't bad by any means, but I feel like if you're gonna go here there's better stuff on the menu.
Guillermo's: Easily the best one in my opinion. Something about the meltiness of the cheese and crust just made this one a pleasure to enjoy. My girlfriend really enjoyed it too, and she really doesn't like calzones all that much. This is the most expensive option, nearing $20 for the one calzone, but it was absolutely worth IMO.
Rome's Pizza: A good amount of meat, cheese and bread. I don't have much to say for this one except that it's good lol.
Zio's: Zios has now closed their locations but I wanted to mention it in case anyone else was interested in how it was. I remember going here as a kid and always getting the calzone and being so full that I had to take some of it home. I remember I tried the calzone because my dad was like "its just like a big hot pocket" in his attempt to get me away from chicken tenders. It worked lol.
Mattenga's: They have been mostly consistent in quality after I've ordered from them 10+ times, which is a lot more than any other on the list. I specifically order it with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and extra cheese, and they do a great job with filling it. The only problem I've had with them is the actual size of the calzone has differed by a considerable about, sometimes making it a meal I can share with my girlfriend to something I will just finish myself. I usually eat it myself though, so that's not a big deal in my eyes.
I know this it's not nearly a comprehensive list of all the calzones in SA but just the ones I've tried. If anyone knows of any better ones let me know! I told my girlfriend I would try each calzone in the city once lol.

2023.06.03 19:43 BitchInaBucketHat AITAH for not feeling comfortable spending time with my friend anymore

So in September of 2021 I ended up breaking up with my boyfriend of around 8 months. Here is the backstory of why I broke up with him. He and I went into a public space (we lived in the city so it was a very busy space in the summer with lots of people) for me to meet one of his friends and to get to know her. Her and I started joking around and teasing him about something to do with that women need to take longer showers than men because of all the things we have to do in the shower? Something to that nature that was not harsh at all. Eventually, he just sat at the table silent on his phone not interacting with either of us. I even tried to put my hand on his and he snatched it away. It was super awkward anyways but also just super awkward because this was my first time meeting his friend and he just had us all sitting there in silence. After ab 15 minutes of sitting in silence and us playing on our phones, I motioned to him with my face like “what is wrong”. He immediately got up and starting yelling at us in public and making a scene. After he stopped yelling, he ran off around the corner and I couldn’t see him anymore. I began crying and profusely apologizing to his friend, taking the blame for the situation. He eventually came back around the corner and I just left because I didn’t want to deal with him in that moment. My best friend was on campus in a building near by so I immediately went to her in tears bawling and explaining the situation to her. Clearly, she knew how this affected me and exactly what happened.
This friend is a photographer. Towards the end of the school year, I noticed on her photography instagram that she did a photo shoot with him. I was kind of turned off by it, especially the fact that she told me she did it free of charge for him. Ever since then, I’ve just been avoiding doing phone calls with her or hanging out because I’m just so uncomfortable spending to with her. I feel like she betrayed me because she knew how much he humiliated me. I was so afraid he’d flip on me and hit me or something when I broke up with him that I did it in a public space with a friend nearby on lookout. I know I am definitely in the wrong for not communicating with her and letting her know how I felt. Initially I just thought I’d eventually “get over it” but as time has gone on I’ve felt the same way ab it. Now I feel like it’s been so long it’d be insane to bring it up lol. I also want to mention that this is not about me “not being over him”. After he yelled at me like that I was totally turned off, I’m in an over year long relationship now and extremely happy. I guess I’m asking, AITAH for not feeling comfortable with her anymore?

2023.06.03 19:25 Jenasto Archmage Savos Aren's notes on KINMUNE

Here follow my notes on the cryptic tract titled KINMUNE. The text was kindly lent to me by Master Urag, since it contains a mention of something entombed in Saarthal. When questioned as to the text's provenance, he mentioned something about a lone wandering Khajiit.
A cursory read of the text reveals little, since the meaning is mired in rather impenetrable terminology. These notes will represent my attempt to decipher this meaning as I read through it. For anyone following up on these notes, I recommend that you read the original tract alongside this - I'm not going to copy out the whole narrative.
The document begins by stating that KINMUNE stands for KINETICALLY-INTERLINKED MULTI-USER NTH-GEN EXOFORM, and is the correct name of the legendary Queen Ayrenn of Alinor. Historically, she was the high queen who founded the First Aldmeri Dominion.
My attempts to shed light on the terminology of the tract follow:
On the acronym: Kinetics relate to movement or potence relating to movement.
Inter-linking is a concept in which multiple items are linked together by threads, much like various models of the Aurbis.
Multi-user is a term which I am uncertain about beyond its base terminology. Multiple people using something? What?
Nth-gen. 'N' is a placeholder for any given numerical digit.
Exoform: Outward-shape? Something whose shape is outside its nature?
Proxy-synthetic - A synthetic (being) could be one that is artificially constructed. My mind is drawn to the still-animate brass guardians of the deep folk. 'Proxy' generally denotes vicariousness, something acting on behalf of another.
9th Era - The tract suggests that KINMUNE is from this time in the future. At least, with our kalpical knowledge we assume it's the future.
Aurbical Mining Guilds - Unknown organisation from some supposed future date, whose exact facilities would be the scope of a whole new field of study if this tract can be deemed credible.
Thot-box - Possibly slang for 'Thought box'. Not terminology I have seen elsewhere, I will offer no attempt at present to decipher.
Dreamsleevishell (sic) - Assume 'Dreamsleeve shell'. The Dreamsleeve is a concept bickered over by Imperial theologians and mystics, and their Altmeri counterparts. It its whole it seems to a be a reductionist attempt to reconcile diverse notions of the afterlife and spirit realm, though there are supposedly incidences of Imperial scholars successfully transmitting thoughts across it, telepathically. Old Mankar's commentaries I'm sure made a note of these - if one can find any of the Mythic Dawn knocking around, perhaps one can read further.
As for a 'Dreamsleeve-shell' I can only speculate. Perhaps something that allows one to physically enter the space? That would be tantamount to entering Aetherius corporeally.
Remote Mortal Operators - If this device was operated 'telepathically' then perhaps it would explain 'Multi user.'
Kynareth's illicit breath trade - A term that would no doubt be considered a grand blasphemy by any mannish religion. Perhaps the author suggests that the 'Breath' of this divine is what these guilds are mining.
Stream several live-wire mortal proxies - By context from the above, I think the author is suggesting that the device could be physically operated by several individuals, telepathically, at the same time.
Hazardous Conditions Warprunner Exoform - Would imply that the device is intended to be operated in conditions where the 'several proxies' would be unable to go normally. I now believe that 'Exoform' means something outside of oneself that is controlled by oneself.
Ayleidoon Hegemony - The Ayleids are the post-hoc name given to the elves of Old Cyrod, Ayleidoon meaning Of The Ayleids. Hegemony means dominance, but often refers to a state that is de facto controlled by another - much as the Thalmor attempts with the Empire.
"Nearing another unceremonious end" - We know that the Ayleids have fallen at the hands of Saint Alessia. This would imply that it will happen again, for a second or even third or greater time.
Hist-Jillian wars - The Hist are the trees that live in Argonia, said to be the survivors of one of the previous Kalpa's worlds of creation. The Jills are, according to the cults of Akatosh, those daughters of the Time Dragon who 'mend the minutes' - or end the so-called Dragon Breaks by reconciling divergent time-threads into one continuum.
Wheelian Rip - A break of the Wheel, the Aurbis, could be another term for a Dragon Break or un-time event.
SubSys - Unknown. Sub-system?
'Brane Space - Membrane-space? Unknown.
Nu-Mandlebright - Nu is a prefix in Ehlnofex meaning New. This probably means a place.
Chronoculic - Chrono- is a Nedic word for Time. -Culos implies small.
Sync-Net anchor - I can only speculate here. Synchronised net, or network? The concepts here, if indeed real whatsoever, are beyond the ken of this era. I might go so far as to suggest the author is describing some manner of stabilising device.
Space-time - The enantiomorphic marriage of the Space God Lorkhan, and the Time God Akatosh, that we know as the Aurbis.
F-Shores - Unknown.
Blink-root Ship - A kind of warship deployed by the Hist, the author suggests. 'Blink' is a kind of slang used in old Morrowind to refer to teleportation, though I can't be certain the analogy applies here.
16th Dimensional Mathematics - Regular time-space/space-time that we perceive daily operates on four dimensions, Three spatial and one Temporal. The three spatial presumably apply to enantiomorphically linked super-gradients of Lorkhan (possibly Sithis/Anui-El/Aurbis?). The fourth (and possibly fifth and sixth, uncertain) dimensions relate to Aka. Sixteen dimensional mathematics, especially being used as weaponry as made explicit here, strongly suggests the sixteen realms of the Daedra.
Impossipoint Detonation - The result of the above mathematics being used as weaponry. Impossipoints are a hypothetical construct in theurgic geometry that indicate the creation of something from nothing.
Ix-Egg - Delving into some Argonian metaphysics now. Ixtaxh-thtithil-meht is the Jel name of Sithis, meaning 'Exact Egg Cracker' or 'He who breaks the egg'. Linguistic link aside, there is nothing to suggest what the Ix-Egg referred to here is.
TalOSian Hologram - TalOS, with the latter two letters capitalised, is sometimes used by scholars who validate the Arcturian Heresy, especially Altmer ones who decry the Orthodox account. The O-S I think stand for 'Over-soul'. If someone following up these notes is uncertain what is meant here, seek out the Arcturian Heresy and read it, or a thorough exegesis of it.
Hologram - Holos is Nedic for light, -Gramma means message. A message of light relating to the trinary soul of Talos. I can't read any more into it than that.
Ysgramorim - The best I can offer is that it refers to Ysgramor's time, or his wars.
"Her mind an aggregate..." - The author states that the device now operates with the mentalities of the users who were telepathically controlling it before the time shift. An artificial construct given the thoughts of several 'users'. It accordingly 'drives' her insane (was she supposed to have had a sanity of 'her' own before?)
Memory-web - The author hints at the creations' ability to hold data. It is able to 'remember' history enough to recognise her location.
Broadcasting distress - She is able to use her telepathic functions to send out a plea in all the languages she knows.
Tok-Talk - At a guess I would say the author means technological speak, which apparently doesn't exist in the Merethic. The noise of a clock, or other mechanism that mimics the rudiments of Dwemercraft, is often onomatopaeically rendered as 'Tick-Tock'.
Whalebone readers - Ancient Atmoran diviners.
Tickle in the Throat - A possible reference to the Throat of the World - some sense KINMUNE by the voice of Kyne? (If the device is already linked to Kynareth's 'breath trade' then I think the author is hinting at this). Sensed by the Old Greybeards.
Oracle Iridescent - She becomes known by this title. The tract never describes her physically, with the possible exception of 'iridescent'.
Green Tablet Steps of Jhunal - Old teachings of the Nordic aspect of Julianos.
Witch of Wire and String - Another epithet.
Post-Kalpica Transmeditations - Some manner of foresight she can deliver to the 'Sons and Daughters' (of Ysgramor?), presumably that allow them to gain knowledge of her own time.
Dumb Old Giant - A giant that attempted to use her meditation gift and was killed or driven insane. The author states that none who used her gifts 'escaped in whole'.
Shield-Biters - Berserkers, shock troops used by Nords since Atmoran times.
(Enchanted weapons of) Wasabi - The only 'Wasabi' I can find a reference to anywhere is a preparation of a peppery herb, used as a condiment in Hammerfell. I am as certain as I can be that this is not what is being referred to here. If it -is-, then I should frankly have never wasted time on this endeavour.
Always-burnt borders (of Saarthal) - This is the phrase that led to Urag granting me use of this tract for study. In this narrative, KINMUNE is imprisoned by Ysgramor underneath Saarthal for allowing his counselor, the Giant, to be harmed.
Prismatic network - Interlinked glass and crystalline prisms used for transmitting light and magicka in Dwemer ruins.
Misunderstood Dwemercraft - Concepts such as 'Misunderstand' and 'Misinterpret' are a little different when confronting the lore of the Deep Folk, since it is possibly to Misunderstand something correctly or incorrectly.
Mund - Mundus, Earth.
Ada-issue - Mortals, which is to say those descending from the spirits. Ada-issue is a term used more by Mer, since we tend to see ourselves as descendants rather than creations of the Aedra. The use of the term here strongly implies a Mer wrote it.
The 9 - The Ninth era.
The 1 and 1 - I suppose this means the Merethic era, one and one possibly referring to the interplay of Akatosh and Lorkhan.
Maradaoon Marionette - A puppet in the nature of, service of or otherwise relating to Mara.
Misunderstandistance - A dwemer concept of micro-architecture that allowed them to build within their peculiar parameters. The details are a matter of debate.
Brass-and-Cricket Lines - Probably the brass steam-pipes used in Dwemer ruins.
Databanx - A word referring to Kinmune's mind, by context.
Synthesize - Create an artificial replica or variant of.
Varliance++ - There's as many attempts to define 'Varliance' as there are wizards who want to talk about it. Rendered by some as raw magicka from the sun or stars, pure aetheric power that can be converted into magic by a wizard. By others as the perspicacity afforded by the exact nature of astral positioning. The two pluses indicate a more advanced form that she can use, now that her telepathic personality is intermingled with the Dwemer logic gates.
Sense-net - What passes for her senses.
Thu'umanics - The Thu'um is the old name for the 'Voice' that Nords can use. It is an ancestral form of Tonal magic - something that Kinmune, according to the narrative, can now sense because of her new association with Dwemer technology.
Wrong-headed Cave Totems - Probably referring to the Eight Divines as they were suggested by the Alessian doctrinal reforms, as distinct from the old Nordic animal spirits.
(This could pinpoint the date of Kinmune's alleged escape from Saarthal as during the Alessian revolt or even the Middle Dawn, where the 'Unorthodox Thu'umanics' may refer to Alessia being recognised by Akatosh, the acts of Pelinal, or the later acts of Marukh.)
Post-script terms:
OLD MARY INTERREGNUM - 'Old Mary' is common homophone slang for 'Aldmeri'.
Patricircumcision - An epithet of Kinmune. I'm not looking this up.
Crystal-like-Twitch - Another epithet. 'Crystal-like-law' is the name of the Tower that once stood above Eton Nir. This is probably a play on words.
Thalmoric Memo-Whore to All Enemies In The 'Set - A play on words of 'Memospore', a term used (as far as I understand) for a message sent through Dreamsleeve. Memo-whore is a rather undignified term that possibly makes a crude reference to how her body could be 'entered'. 'Set is probably shorthand for Summurset.
28th thot-box state-of-the-art half-shaft differential - At a guess, her 9th era designation.
Blessed Pentarch 5/5/555 - Yet another epithet, possibly meaning she had mastery over five schools of magic.
Anuielectorate Article 1245663245 - I'd need a mathologian for this one, and I don't have enough documents about the supposed nature of Anui-el to make more than a haphazard guess.
Thus completes the exegesis of terminology. My interpretation now follows.
This has no relevance to what we have discovered at Saarthal. If the Narrative (and it's a colossal 'if') can be considered viable, then she was clearly imprisoned in a different part of the ruin to the one we excavated - there was no Dwemer technology, misunderstood or otherwise, to be seen. The chamber where the device was located bore only slight deviations from traditional merethic Atmoran architecture.
Furthermore, KINMUNE supposedly escapes from her imprisonment in the First Era. And the document opens by declaring that she is, in fact, Queen Ayrenn of the First Aldmeri Dominion, a woman whose life is fairly well documented - even the years in which she is 'missing' are mostly accounted for as a series of adventures around the Direnni Tower and beyond. I think she is determined to have entered a Dwemer Ruin at one point, but a great many adventurers have.
The only sliver of interest in this line of thinking would be that the huge time-gap might explain the unusual writings on the Orb - perhaps it could be the writing of a future race? And the orb is simply the 'Shell' that Kinmune arrived in, and escaped from. It's conjecture best saved for snowy days and a good bottle of Flin.
Beyond that, it's very difficult to find anything in the tract that would serve as a valid historical or futurological document. There are no corroborating reports of a character from the time bearing any of the epithets mentioned, no Dwemer ruins found in the immediate locale of Saarthal (so far), no records from the early days of the first Empires of Skyrim or Cyrodiil to lend any weight to the tract's claims.
I conclude therefore one of the following:
  1. This is an attempt by Second-Era Altmeri sympathisers to create a basis of propaganda for their queen, by bestowing upon her a crown of mystique which is incomprehensible to the everyday reader, thus granting it a concealed void of academic veracity.
  2. This is modern-day Thalmor propaganda that seeks to do much the same, by creating a false narrative that the Second Era dominion was able to divine the nature of Queen Ayrenn as being of grand temporal importance.
  3. This is a prank played on an unsuspecting Altmer scholar in the second era, to trick them into calling their queen 'Kinmune', which for all we know may have been an embarrassing nickname acquired in her young adventures.
  4. This is the result of some incompetent Altmer trying to use Dreamsleeve communication and producing a garbled report based on a plethora of intermingled concepts and ruminations from many different points in time, past and future.
  5. This is an actual report from an untime event, that has somehow become lodged in our own timeflow. I only include this option because I can't prove against it. If any scholars even so much as attempt to follow up this line of enquiry, they're on midden cleaning duty for the rest of the kalpa.
  6. This is an attempt by a scholar to appear as if they have greater mythical understanding, so as to appear more credible as a candidate for a court mage. They may have used terms harnessed from Imperial and Altmer theosophists to increase their credibility.
  7. This is anti-dominion propaganda, intended to weaken their position by falsely claiming that their foundress was little more than a telepathically controlled animunculus.
  8. This is a fictional account created by mages to amuse one another.
  9. The gibberings of an unfortunate victim of Sheogorath.
Overall the document has no confirmable academic applications. I will have Urag assign it to the Restricted Section (sub-section Possibly Dangerous Esoterica) alongside these notes. If you are a student or professor following up on these notes, I advise you to do so with necessary scepticism and a gentle reminder that sometimes the bizarre and arcane has a terribly prosaic explanation.

2023.06.03 19:10 zjs10 Apartment Potty Training Solution

Hello, everyone!
Getting an 8 week old rottweiler next week and wanted to share my makeshift potty training setup while we wait for those final vaccinations at the 4 month mark.
Currently living at an apartment in San Antonio, Texas, and from my research as well as talking to my my local vet, I am in a high parvo risk area. Not to mention there are many dogs living in my complex and also stray dogs/cats regularly around.
Anyway, here’s my setup—48in dog pan ($20) and 3 24in x 16in squares of sod ($6.50) I got at a local grass/sod supplier: https://imgur.com/a/ptooDND

2023.06.03 19:09 happee_aesthetic I don’t want my MIL to bring my kids to the ocean…

We’re going to Tampa, we’re an outdoorsy family so my kids don’t need bells and whistles type things to keep entertained, let alone 24/7 entertainment either. My husband and I are on a work trip the first 2 weeks (hence kids coming along), we invited MIL for free if she is able to watch the kiddos because we figured she always wants to spend time with them and go on trips with them. The trip ends with all of us spending 2 full days at Disney before my oldest heads out to a cruise with MIL which MIL has ALWAYS wanted to take grandkids on a trip like that/ like I promise she loves to watch grandkids period this isn’t bothering her on that front she wants this lol. Our training is 8am - 9pm. Our kiddos are 8 months, 6 year old (not a strong swimmer at all and didn’t grow up with oceans), and 13 year old (slightly above average swimmer, some ocean experience). His Mom had six kids including him, but I noticed she also was nearly complete opposite of a helicopter parent - and while I am a bit more free range I don’t think water is the place for that. I’ve seen her turn around at water parks and not notice grandkids struggling for a full minute or being distracted on the phone. She’d have all 3 of my kids listed above solo. Her and husband think it’s just fine for her to bring them to a beach in Florida completely by herself - MIL can swim but isn’t like… a water person like that. She stays ankle deep or in a chair, my kid has zero experience with a real current, and a strong swimmer friend of mine literally drowned last year in a riptide and it was a huge wake up call as we grew up knowledgeable and strong swimmers.
Is it ok for me to say “hey these waters have a lot of dangers and you’re one person it’s not happening”? I just don’t see how someone like her could manage 3 kids especially if she is holding an infant and one of my kids gets sucked under…
I feel like it’s ok because it’s Tampa I’m sure there’s parks and more to do around there without even spending a ton on our end if we had to. My thought too is, if a beach is super desired when we arrive and/or when we get our one Sunday break inbetween the two weeks on the weekend we can then go altogether.

2023.06.03 18:45 FrauAmarylis I did a Trial Run of Parenting to be sure I didn't want Kids:

In my late 30s, I hosted an exchange student, "Elsa". Partly to be sure I didn't want a kid. Here's how it went:
I wanted to do the summer program, but they talked me into 11 months. I lived across the street from the high school, which was convenient. My husband was going to be abroad for work for most of it, and I'm a former teacher and principal. (DINKER- Retired at 38.)
It was exactly as I thought.
My husband was the Good Cop/Disneyland Dad who swooped in from work with dad jokes or to take us fun places or to cook dinner and do his usual chores, but he wasn't around to do much of the parenting, and he often was too lazy to enforce the rules (paying for her latte, when she was supposed to pay for it- the $ guidelines are very strict in the exchange program), not checking if her chores were done, etc.
So, I had to be "the bad cop" who followed through with daily drudgery of parenting- teaching her she has to carry her ID at all times, not bringing it to her at school when she called saying she forgot it again, taking her to doctor appointments, arranging carpooling and outings, learning who her friends were, hosting her birthday party, figuring out she was lying when she said her teacher lost her assignment, communicating with her parents and the exchange liason meetings, following the parenting expectations for the exchange program, help her figure out her US clothing sizes, register her for school, etc.
None of my friends cared to ask about me anymore, only they asked about her and my husband (who was abroad). I put a pink rinse in my hair at the time, and looking back, I think maybe it was to get some attention back on myself. Everyone mentioned my pink hair.
And she hated her mom and worshipped her Disneyland Dad who gave her free reign with his credit card- every 2 weeks she spent $500+ at the mall, with her US friend who had an actual job and had to pay her own stuff. (Also- her dad had cheated on her mom, causing their divorce, and lives with his mistress, but kept a flat so ). I had to cajole her into sending her mom a birthday card. Her poor regard for her mom really bothered me.
Elsa lied all the time, even about trivial things. In her country she has used public transportation solo since age 8, so if her mom tried to give her a consequence for misbehaving, she would get on the train and go to her dad's house.
Elsa's divorced parents didn't communicate with each other, so they believed her lies. We were watching Mrs.Doubtfire, and for the first time she wasn't on her phone- she was actually smiling and enjoying the movie- and I asked her if it was because she tricked her divorced parents like the kids do in the movie, and she just had a guilty smile.
Elsa told me I'm the first person who ever followed through and made sure she did everything she said she would do. She said it was an adjustment for her, but it seemed she kind of liked the structure and consistency I provided.
I took her to Hawaii to vacation with my mom and I, and my husband and I took her on a road trip up the CA coast, and we had a pool she loved, she loved my convertible, and I took her to amusement parks, to Hollywood/LA, sports games, hiking, whale/dolphin Watching (her favorite animal is dolphin), etc. The Exchange Liason said I was the best and shared that the other host families were struggling because their kids didn't like the exchange kids getting all the attention.
Since age 8, she's lived one week with her mom, and the next week with her dad and she hates that custody arrangement. It was clear that her mom did the Parenting and her dad spoiled her and took her on annual lavish vacation. But she hated the dad's mistress, and when Elsa left on exchange, the dad wasted no time getting rid of his flat and moving in with the Mistress. This upset Elsa, but she could never share her feelings with her dad.
She loved our house at the beach, our CA weather (and winter daylight), living in one home instead of switching every week, and my cooking.
Does Elsa want kids?
Elsa had requested a host family without kids. (That's us!) She spends a week at her Grandma's every summer with her cousins, and by the end she hates being around those little kids. But she advised that she does want to have one or two kids. I asked why, and she had a hard time explaining it (she was 17), and it sounded like she wants a Mini Me, a child of her own. When I asked her about taking care of the baby when it's sick and stating up all night, etc. And she just shrugged.
We were duped: We chose Elsa from the application pool, because she said she was Outdoorsy and loves the beach, wanted to go to museums, liked travel, and wanted to improve her English.
Besides swimming in the pool, Elsa is Far From Outdoorsy! She can't ride a bike, she won't step on sand, and she refused to go in any museums (she'd wait outside as we went in) or go hiking. Elsa is ftom a country where they say babies are "born with skis on", and Elsa doesn't ski.
Her mom had been on exchange in the 80s, and has a job with Microsoft where she speaks English all day, and I've video-chatted with the Mom and she speaks nearly perfect English (for example, far better than the Germans when I lived there, although Elsa and parents aren't German). (I have a teaching certification in language acquisition, so I have a better understanding than most people.) Elsa's family never hosted a student in "exchange".Americans were always troubled upon hearing that I didn't have a kid living on exchange with Elsa's family. Elsa's mom loved her exchange and her mom still has her cowboy boots, insists on an American clothes Dryer in her flat, and is in touch with her Texas "Mom and Dad".
We also learned that Elsa's family owns a home in Florida and she Vacatons there every year, which is likely why she didn't have to learn how our stores, sales tax, etc worked, like tge rest of the exchange kids did. (I also worked in law enforcement, so I noticed all the details that weren't adding up, and Elsa was frustrated tgat I caught her in lies all the time.)
Americans all assumed Elsa was American. They didn't hear any accent. We were never given photos of her before we chose her, but she has green eyes like my husband and I (only 2% of Americans have green eyes, lol), and the same hair color as me, so people were in shock when they were told she's not our kid. Elsa and us, we all found it amusing.
How it Ended: The exchange program rule was that the kids had to participate in a sport or activity outside of school, because American high school kids are very busy with jobs/sports and Exchange kids find it hard to make friends. Despite being very outgoing and social, This was true for Elsa.
My friend asked Elsa how her activities were going and I heard Elsa say that she quit them.
(Also, despite all the amazing trips, Elsa was mad that I didn't take her to San Francisco yet, and tgat I didn't let her skip school to go to Disneyland with an exchange student who was finishing her exchange early.)
There were some other things that I knew the other exchange kids were doing (things that the kids signed and pledged to do in the exchange contract), like cook a meal from their country, celebrate a holiday from your country with your host family, etc. And after 6 months and her national holiday passed, Elsa had never done any of it.
Elsa was annoyed at me for catching her in a lie about where she was, and advised that she just wants to be my "roommate". She wants me to cook, clean, provide room and board (her own bedroom with private bath in our million dollar beach house), but not be concerned with where she is or what she does.
I advised that what she is describing is the University international student program- but she would have roommates AND have to pay Tuition, room, board, and cook and clean for herself. Of course, she isn't interested in that.
So, I told Elsa to ask her one friend at school if she could live with them, because I'm going to rent out her room, since she gave me the idea about how much better roommate life is than the exchange.
When the time came to move out, after 6 months, Elsa didn't want to go. This new situation was atypical and she would share a room and a small house with 4 other kids and their parents, and they don't cook, lol.
It was a drama to get her to go.
My opinion: The way Elsa treated her own parents is the main reason that validated my choice to remain childfree by choice.
I don't believe in year-long exchangestudent to the US, for many reasons, unless it is someone from a disadvantaged country who speaks little English- of the 14 students in our group- there was only 1 kid tgat was like that and he really did benefit from the long exchange, and he really did suffer culture shock, and he really was very grateful for all he was provided for a year. Just do the summer one if you want, although some of my teacher friends have terrible stories about those, too.
Elsa's older half-brother (he's my age) was correct. He had found out that Elsa's host family was a military Colonel and a retired School Principal, and he told her that she'd never make it. He was correct!

2023.06.03 18:28 kadacin Question for northern Americans near the Canadian border?

I grew up in the Plains and now live in northern CA. I'm pretty well traveled in the US but for whatever reason have not spent any time near the Canadian border. For those in northern MN, NY, WA, or any other nearby State.
Do you think you have more in common with our brothers across the border than Americans in south Florida, San Diego, San Antonio, New Mexico, Hawaii, etc.?

2023.06.03 18:16 Chiyomomo Top 100 Rikishi Countdown: #25-21

Welcome back, folks; hope you all enjoyed this most recent basho as much as I did, and now I hope this Countdown post can help you beat some of those post-basho blues! Today, we're finally diving into the top 25 rikishi of the Modern Era (including a couple fan faves), so feel free to catch up on any previous installments if you haven't already.
Introduction and #100-91, #90-81, #80-71, #70-61, #60-51, #50-41, #40-36, #35-31, #30-26
25. Kotoshogiku (Ozeki, 2005-2020, 977 points in 92 basho, 1x Yusho)
Some may be surprised to see Kotoshogiku as the 5th-highest Ozeki in these rankings, but I think many underestimate his staying power in the top division (only one other Ozeki has fought more Makuuchi matches, and Giku is 7th among all modern rikishi in Makuuchi banzuke appearances). Few men have been able to replicate his combination of skill and longevity, and his unique style of sumo and affable demeanor endeared him to fans the world over. After working his way into the san'yaku at a mere 23 years of age, Kotoshogiku became a mainstay in the joi for the next 4 and a half years. Finally, he broke through to Ozeki in late 2011 after a run of 4 consecutive double-digit basho as a Sekiwake, an achievement made even more impressive considering how loaded the Ozeki corps was at the time. Unfortunately, because of this logjam, Kotoshogiku was found it difficult to separate himself from his peers and rarely found himself in contention. However, his results during this period show that his reputation for being regularly kadoban did not apply to his entire stint, as 11 of his first 12 basho at Ozeki featured winning scores for the Sadogatake man.
Despite the occasional strong performance, Kotoshogiku's reliability slowly began to slip away, and he entered 2016 having eclipsed 9 wins only once in the previous year and still chasing his maiden yusho. At this point, having fought in the top division for over a decade and clearly entering his post-prime period, you could be forgiven for predicting the Ozeki would retire without ever lifting the Emperor's Cup. But you would also be wrong. In the first basho of the new year, Kotoshogiku streaked through the entire top of the banzuke, dispatching 9 san'yaku riksihi (including Kakuryu, Harumafuji, and Hakuho on consecutive days) to clinch his first and only title. In the process, he also ended a ten-year-long drought of a Japanese wrestler winning the Makuuchi yusho, finally interrupting the stretch of Mongolian dominance. Unfortunately, this performance seemed to be more of a final run at glory rather than a career renaissance, as Kotoshogiku would lose his Ozeki rank exactly a year after his triumph. He fought valiantly over the last few years of his career, staving off Juryo demotion with the occasional flashing of his infamous "hug-and-chug" style before finally retiring in late 2020 at nearly 37 years of age. Now a coach at his stable, the former Ozeki announced just this month that he plans on opening a stable of his own next year; here's to hoping he sticks around in sumo for many years to come!
24. 66th Yokozuna Wakanohana III (1990-2000, 1,009 points in 58 basho, 5x Yusho)
Faithful readers will remember Takanohana I (the great Ozeki) making an appearance in the last installment of this series, whose blurb I ended by alluding to the sons who would surpass him on the dohyo. The elder of these two sons, Wakanohana III, was a mainstay at the top of the banzuke alongside his brother Takanohana II for the better part of the '90s, and though his accomplishments have been somewhat overshadowed by the latter, his career is worthy of its slot on this list (he's also the first member of the 1,000-point club we've encountered). Making his top-division debut 2 basho after his brother, Wakanohana (known as Wakahanada at the time) initially struggled to establish himself in the top division. After bouncing around the maegashira ranks for a couple years, he had his breakout tournament in March of 1993, becoming only the second man to record 14 victories as a Komusubi on the way to his first yusho (the other rikishi was none other than his brother a mere 3 basho earlier; fate is ironic like that). He followed that performance up with a solid two basho at Sekiwake, clinching promotion to Ozeki, again 3 basho behind his brother.
Here, the two's careers diverged. As the younger, taller, heavier Takanohana became a dai-Yokozuna by winning 15 yusho from 1994-1997, Wakanohana consistently played second fiddle, occasionally battling injury. Even still, flashes of his potential continued to peek through, as evidenced by his second and third yusho (the former coming via a playoff victory over his brother, their only professional match, and the latter after a stunning leg trip of the titanic Akebono). Unfortunately, both of these would-be Yokozuna runs were cut short immediately by injury, and after over 4 years of being mired at Ozeki, it looked like he would be destined to never earn the white rope like his brother. Finally, however, in early 1998, Wakanohana found a golden window of strong form and good health, capturing back-to-back championships for the first time in his career and finally earning promotion to sumo's top rank.
Sadly, this run of good health was not to last, and injuries quickly beleaguered the new Yokozuna. He would retire less than 2 years after his promotion, often not fighting at all (he had nearly as many absences as victories during this stretch) and becoming only the second man to never lift the Emperor's Cup as a Yokozuna (no one has done so since either). He was only 29 years old. After retiring, unlike his brother, Wakanohana left sumo completely, appearing on TV and opening his own restaurant; much has been made of the apparent fallout between the two after the death of their father. Even still, Wakanohana III overcame the limits of his physique and the massive footprints left by his father and brother to carve out his own niche in the annals of sumo history, and it's impossible to tell the story of one of sumo's most famous eras without him.
23. 53rd Yokozuna Kotozakura (1963-1974, 1,012 points in 66 basho, 5x Yusho)
The "Wild Bull" of sumo, Kotozakura's career mimicked Wakanohana III's in many ways, only he was competing three decades before the latter (it's remarkable that they ended their careers separated by only 3 points in these rankings). Transitioning from a judo background in his teenage years, Kotozakura very quickly announced himself to the sumo world by flashing san'yaku-level talent briefly after his top-division debut. After spending 2 and a half years bouncing around the joi, he eventually broke into the Ozeki ranks at a time when there were already 6 stellar Yokozeki on the banzuke. Four tournaments into his Ozeki tenure, he lifted the Emperor's Cup for the first time in his career, though any hopes of Yokozuna promotion would be dashed midway through the following basho after he suffered an injury.
Six months later, Kotozakura secured a second yusho after an early Taiho withdrawal opened up the yusho race, but this would precede a long drought of yusho contention for the Ozeki. Over the next 3 and a half years, he would never eclipse 11 victories and was forced to pull out of multiple tournaments due to his nagging injuries. However, the retirements of both Taiho and Tamanoumi II left a power vacuum at the top of the banzuke, and once he finally found a stretch of good health, Kotozakura took full advantage of this opening. One day before his 32nd birthday, Kotozakura snapped his yusho drought by claiming his 3rd Emperor's Cup with a day to spare, before matching that 14-1 score with another in the following tournament to seal an age-defying Yokozuna promotion at long last. After finding his footing as a Yokozuna in his first two basho at the rank, Kotozakura earned his 5th and final championship by defeating both Wajima and Kitanofuji on the final day (the latter in this dominant playoff victory).
Unfortunately, much like our friend Wakanohana, Kotozakura's reign as a Yokozuna would not last long, and he would announce his retirement less than a year after his final yusho. Fortunately, life after sumo offered plenty of opportunities for him to pass on what he had learned, and many of the great "Koto" Ozeki over the years blossomed under his tutelage (Kotozake, Kotooshu, Kotomitsuki, and our other friend Kotoshogiku). Though he certainly falls into the category of Yokozuna whose attainment of the rank came as the culmination of their career rather than the beginning of a long run at the top, his 5 championships and steady presence as a Yokozeki for over 6.5 years in a competitive era make his career a remarkable one.
22. Takanonami (Ozeki, 1991-2004, 1,019 points in 76 basho, 2x Yusho)
Takanonami is perhaps the greatest casualty of the aforementioned glorious era that was the 1990s. Though Takanohana II, Akebono, Musashimaru, and Wakanohana III are all well-remembered for their victories and immortalized as a result of their respective Yokozuna promotions, there was a 5th man who held his own alongside them at the top during the decade. However, because he lacked the yusho of his compatriots and, more importantly, a tsuna, Takanonami's name is often forgotten by modern sumo fans. Quickly achieving Ozeki status in early 1994, the 22-year-old came into his own at sumo's second-highest rank, posting 4 12-win results in his first 5 basho. After a lackluster 1995, Takanonami came roaring back in 1996, capturing his maiden yusho after defeating Takanohana in what has to be one of the greatest sumo playoffs in history (and one of the most brilliant leg picks I've ever seen).
After 3 more jun-yusho (ever the bridesmaid, Takanonami would finish as runner-up 8 times in his career), he. recaptured some of his 1996 magic in November of 1997, again felling the great Takanohana in another final-day playoff. Unfortunately, his unique brand of defensive sumo (which was not without controversy for its Ozeki-worthiness) became more inconsistent as he aged, and Takanonami finally lost his Ozeki rank in 2000 after a 6-year stint. This run is one of the strongest Ozeki tenures in the Modern Era, as he averaged 9.5 wins per basho (second among all modern Ozeki) and won the yusho or finished second in 24% of his basho at the rank (fourth among all his peers, none of whom have come close to matching his longevity). All in all, I think it's safe to say that Takanonami is one of the greatest Ozeki of all time, and his name deserves to be remembered alongside his contemporaries from the '90s. Especially in the wake of his tragic early passing in 2015 at the age of only 43, that's the least we can do as sumo fans to honor his memory.
21. 50th Yokozuna Sadanoyama (1961-1968, 1,020 points in 44 basho, 6x Yusho)
Only one man in the top 30 of these rankings competed in fewer than 45 career top-division basho, and there's no doubt that Sadanoyama's talent while active places him closer to the top of these rankings than his slot here would suggest. This talent was on display from the very beginning for Sadanoyama, as few rikishi have ever made as instant a splash as he. After a strong 10-5 debut, he sat out the next tournament before returning and stunning the world with a 12-3 score and a yusho triumph; he is the only rikishi in the last century to win a top-division yusho in his first 3 appearances. Within a year, he had earned promotion to Ozeki after winning a second Emperor's Cup, this time toppling the legendary Taiho in a senshuraku playoff.
As an Ozeki, Sadanoyama continued to demonstrate that he had what it took to contend for yusho consistently. He frequently scored 11+ victories as an Ozeki and racked up 5 jun-yusho (each with a strong 13-2 record), but he was unable to break through and earn the championship that would seal his Yokozuna promotion. Finally, in January 1965, Sadanoyama recorded his third consecutive 13-2 performance, but this time it was good enough to earn him his third yusho and the coveted white rope (joining three other active Yokozuna, no less). Two basho later, he made good on his promotion by winning his first yusho as a Yokozuna, shaking off a Day 1 defeat by going unbeaten for the rest of the tournament. Unfortunately, injuries put an end to his dominant run of form (at one point, he had won the yusho or finished second in 7 consecutive basho), and he began to struggle more and more against his peers at the top of the division.
However, Sadanoyama refused to let his injuries cut short his career, and he orchestrated a dramatic resurgence in late 1967, fashioning 3 straight 12+ win scores and winning back-to-back yusho for the first time in his career. On the back of these impressive performances, it came as quite a shock to the sumo world when the Yokozuna announced his retirement in the midst of the very next basho, having spent barely 7 years in the top division. Though his lack of longevity hurts him in these rankings, his other stats place him in elite company. For example, he still has the second-highest Kachi Koshi rate (86%) of all wrestlers in the Modern Era (min. 10 basho), and even with his injuries, his average wins per basho (9.9) is in the top 10 of the entire Modern Era. In retirement, he coached Mienoumi to the latter's Yokozuna promotion and served as chairman of the JSA, demonstrating that his success and influence extended far beyond his ability on the dohyo.

2023.06.03 17:39 ligademutantes Ranking r/futebol - Semana 7 - Tabelas e dados

Boas-vindas à Semana 5 do ranking do futebol.
# Time Média DP Comentário
David Luiz ainda não me passa segurança nenhuma e me faz questionar onde estariam Rodrigo Caio e Pablo. u/I-am_Duck
Flu começa a contornar a crise, faltando melhorar o aproveitamento no ataque pro time voltar a subir de produção. u/Guga1952
Cansei. u/ronil_wazlib
2023.06.03 16:40 BrazenBull **Trip Report** My Solo Weekend in Barcelona (aka: A 45-year-old at a Party Hostel!!??)

I (45M) had some time off over Memorial Day Weekend, so I decided to pop over to Barcelona from my home in Italy for some solo sight-seeing and Spanish food indulgence. I'm a fan of hostels on my trips for the social aspect and I enjoy meeting other travelers from around the world and hearing their stories, so for this trip I decided to try something new and take it up a notch by booking an unabashed "party" hostel - Kabul Party Hostel near La Rambla.
Friday
Flight got in at 1030 in the morning. I bought an AeroBus round-trip ticket from the airport to the city center (Placa Catalunya) for $12. I'm a big pre-planner, so I had an itinerary made in advance of places to see on a little self-guided walking tour.
Around 6 pm people started arriving at the hostel bar or upstairs on the terrace, and I met a lot of other solo travelers. We played pool, foosball, etc. and the vibe was good. At 8 they had their nightly hostel activity, which was karaoke (I just watched). At 11 they did a pub crawl, but I went to bed because...I'm old.
Saturday
The hostel actually provided a breakfast buffet, and I practically had it all to myself at 8 am because everyone was still asleep. The only others were people who'd been out all night and this was a late night snack for them.
At the beach, I set up my towel next to a family with kids, and asked them to watch my things when I went in the water. I was there most of the afternoon and really enjoyed it, but it was very crowded and people were always walking by trying to sell stuff (I did buy a few mojitos, lol). The weather was perfect (83F/28C).
That night at the hostel I befriended a solo traveler who was in his late 20's and told me he felt "old" at this particular hostel. The clientele at Kabul definitely skewed young, like 18-21 young. It was awkward hearing the stories of the American kids amazed that they could gamble at the Barcelona Casino, or buy sangria at a bar without being carded. But outside the generational differences, they were laid back and fun to hang out with.
Sunday
I slept in a little, then after breakfast I took the cable car up Montjuïc. It had some nice views. The guy I met the night before texted and asked me to meet him at Casa Battlo, so I headed over that way.
He had hooked up with a girl staying at the hostel the night before, and now was stuck escorting her and her friend around the city. They'd just paid $35 to go inside Casa Battlo, and he needed a wingman. I was content waiting outside (The Gaudi tourist stops are overpriced imho).
I spent the next few hours watching this new couple who'd just met and drunkenly hooked up only the night before try to play "couple" - holding hands etc. but it was painful to watch them try their best to get along sober when it clearly would've been best to leave it as a one night stand. I went back to the hostel and took a nap, and later that night the four of us went out for dinner and walked around the beachfront area. All this time I wasn't a very good double date for the other girl because: 1. I have a girlfriend back home 2. I was all-too-aware I had two decades on this girl, and any simple niceties or innocent flirting could easily be misconstrued as me being a creepy old man. Maybe that was just in my head, but those are legitimate feelings at my age. I went to bed around Midnight as they left to go clubbing.
Monday
Checkout was 11, but my flight wasn't until 6 pm, so I spent my final day souvenir shopping, exploring the back alleys of the gothic quarter alone, and sitting on a bench on La Rambla listening to street performers play Spanish music. It was a nice relaxing day. Around 2 I got a text from my new friend that he'd just woken up and wanted me to come back to the hostel to hang out with him and the girls. I declined.
Final Thoughts
Would I stay at Kabul Party Hostel again? No, but I'm glad I went and held my own with the young people. I knew I'd be out of place, but it ended up being fun. I played foosball, pool, beer pong and watched the Barcelona soccer match on tv while sharing multiple pitchers of sangria with interesting young people from all over the world.
I loved Barcelona and was lucky to have great weather while there. The food was really good and not too expensive. I didn't get pickpocketed despite all the warnings. I was able to navigate public transportation on my own, and I learned some new Catalan phrases.
When my plane touched down at Venice Airport that night, my phone pinged with several missed texts. My hostel friend had written to say the other girl was asking about me and told him she would've hooked up if only I'd tried harder. I assumed they were a few drinks deep at the hostel bar by that point. Maybe it was the sangria talking, but hearing she'd liked me felt good, and was the perfect end to my solo trip to Barcelona.

2023.06.03 16:36 Sperry8 My engagement ring shopping experience

Hello all,
Just completed 4 days of in-person visits in New York City (Manhattan NYC) shopping for an engagement ring and thought I'd share my experience (as many of your posts helped me). Please know I am not an expert so just sharing my personal experience.
I met with 6 companies and learned a lot. In addition I also shopped at numerous online retailers. All the companies showed me eye-clean sparkly looking mined diamonds. However, I learned the industry does not provide enough information for us to truly make an informed decision to compare and contrast the diamonds and to ensure we're getting good value for the diamond we end up purchasing. The reality is, most consumers don't seem to care. They buy based on carat size, setting type, price, and sparkle. For those that care more, internet research discusses the 4 C's (usually described in a report from a grading company like GIA or similar). But sadly, this report does not provide all the information required to identify a sparkly mined diamond.
They allow you to compare and contrast in a controlled setting (in-store with fancy lighting), against a few other diamonds (also controlled). If you have a favorite diamond from one store and want to contrast it against another (or against one online), you are unable to do so. Only seeing diamonds side by side, without the controlled lighting, would we be able to truly see the possible difference in color tint and sparkle.
However, there are add'l reports and tools that allow you to ascertain how sparkly your diamond will perform - but almost none of the stores provide these reports. Some of the online retailers do - but they only provide some, not all, of these reports.
Finally, because consumers only care about carat size, setting type, price, and sparkle the cutters (who cut the raw diamonds) are incentivized not to create perfect sparkly cuts without inclusions, but to keep as much of the raw material as possible, which results in many of these diamonds have inclusions, clouds, and angles that do not optimize the sparkle of the diamond (but do leave them a higher carat size) which is what consumers (and retailers want). Retailers want this because they know 2 things... they can charge more for larger stones, and they can sell stones that aren't perfect to consumers since they don't provide us with enough info to make an informed decision. The result is what I found when shopping. Almost every retailer trots out diamonds that appear sparkly and pretty - but have significant flaws (which are not generally noticeable to the naked eye - but do reduce the shine nonetheless and would be more apparent if shown side by side in natural light).
At a bare minimum, the reports one should look at are GIA Report, Holloway Cut Report, and the Gemex Light Performance Report. Most retailers do not provide these reports unless asked. One must ask, if the diamonds they are showing rank as good on these reports, why would they withhold this information? It seems obvious to me they withhold it because the diamonds we are shown do not rank well on the reports. And without data, one is left to choose a diamond solely based on their "eye" and budget, which will not get you the highest quality diamond at the price you can afford.
When in store, optimally, you also want to do 3 things.
1- Look at the diamond through an (Idealscope) hearts and arrows viewer to make sure the hearts and arrows are clean and present (one can be purchased for ~$15 if you want to bring your own). But, imo, any retailer who doesn't have one sitting there for you to use, is obviously showing you diamonds that will not pass this visual inspection.
2- Use an ASET Scope or other light scope viewer to identify how much "bleed" the diamond has. That is, how much light is refracted back to the eye - vs how much light passes through the diamond (and not back to the eye). This will help you ascertain the brilliance/sparkle of the diamond. You can buy/bring your own, but again, any retailer not offering this knows the diamonds they are showing you won't allow their diamond to grade high.
3- Look at the diamonds side by side, over something white, in natural light (put your hand over the bright lights the store has). See from the top if the sparkle differs and see from the side if you can see a yellow looking tint. This may prove difficult if you cannot sufficiently block their bright light and use natural light (which is how you'll be looking at the diamond through your life when it's on your finger).
If you use all the tools above you'll be more equipped to make an informed decision. Now, sadly, after doing all the above, I'm still not 100% confident I received the best diamond at the best price. I am however, more confident I received an excellent cut, sparkly diamond, in the largest size for my budget. In fact of the 24+ diamonds I saw, only 3 passed the tests above - and odds are I would've ended up with one of those rather than the one I bought. So at the very least I ended up with one of the 3 and put the odds in my favor that I wasn't as ripped off as I would've been.
Another thing to consider is your setting. Setting prices (for the exact same setting) were all over the place (from a low of $850 to a high of $3,600). Again, these were for near identical settings. This is another trick... a store may appear to be giving you a deal on a diamond - but once you include the setting price - you end up not saving at all (or vice versa).
On to the reviews. Budget was $20k all in, incl setting, taxes, and shipping/insurance. Round brilliant natural mined diamond. Setting 14k yellow gold 4 prong pave, and thus my color grade to optimize size was ~I (for a round brilliant cut excellent stone any of the near colorless options (G-J) will look white next to yellow gold so figured no need to pay more for a colorless grade). Based on my budget, stones I was shown were in the 1.8-2.2 carat range.
Lauren B Jewelry:
(i) Showed 4 eye clean diamonds within my budget. Did not provide any reports alongside the diamonds. However, upon request, did provide the GIA reports. Did not offer any add'l reports and did not provide me with a hearts/arrows ideal-scope or ASET viewer in store.
(ii) Setting price was $2,100 (14k)
My take: Excellent friendly in-store service. Diamonds shown were the lowest quality of any I saw during my visit (as it appears to stay within my budget and size request they had to drop down to SI level) GIA reports and loupe confirmed a variety of inclusions and clouds. Settings were some of the most beautiful however and were priced on the lower end of the setting prices I received.
Jangmi Jewelry:
(i) Showed me 3 eye clean diamonds with GIA reports provided without asking. Showed me stones through hearts and arrows viewer without asking. Provided Holloway Cut reports after meeting upon request. Claimed Gemex reports are redundant and not required once someone has seen the HCA Cut report.
(ii) Setting price quoted at $2,800 (14k, but quote includes adding pave to prongs which may have increased price slightly).
My take: Friendly service, although English was 2nd language. Diamonds were priced competitively however GIA and Holloway showed only average stones (with the better GIA report having a worse Holloway score and the worse GIA report having a better Holloway score). They had a hearts and arrows viewer in-store and the stones did have them (to my untrained eye). However. without a Gemex and ASET viewer it was impossible for me to truly identify the sparkle/brilliance of their stones. It is ultimately possible the stones are above average, however, I was not provided the tools to corroborate this.
Soho Gem:
(i) Showed me 5 eye clean diamonds with GIA reports alongside (without asking). Would not provide Holloway Cut or Gemex reports but did offer to have me come back to the store to view the diamonds through their ASET viewer as well as through an Ideal-Scope. This was not offered to me while I was in-store.
(ii) Setting quoted at $3,400 (18k). 18k increased setting price slightly as well as pave around basket.
My take: Friendly in-store service. The specs of the diamond I liked the most were similar to the stone I ultimately chose. It is possible had I been willing to trek back to the store to see the stones through the ASET viewer and Ideal-Scope the stone may have proved excellent in terms of light leakage and hearts and arrows. But without the add'l HCA and Gemex reports, I'd have lacked the information to truly make an informed decision. Further their diamond was $1,300 higher - so it seemed a waste to go through the effort only to see a diamond that matched the specs of the diamond I bought. Plus their setting was significantly more expensive (even when taking 18k into consideration) and they required a 50% deposit to begin.
Ring Concierge:
(i) Showed me 3 eye clean diamonds. Included GIA reports but would not offer add'l reports calling them "unnecessary as GIA certified diamonds with a cut grade of triple excellent... will have maximum brilliance". She claimed any add'l reports function as a "sales/marketing technique".
(ii) Setting quoted at $3,600 (14k). They do however offer the thinnest band at 1.5mm which no other retailer would build (thinnest anyone else would go was 1.8mm).
My take: Friendly in-store service. However, setting prices were the highest of any retailer and when a customer asks for reports on physics/facts only to be told these are sales/marketing techniques, my antenna go way up. She knows (or should know) that not all of GIA's excellent cut diamonds are optimal in terms of brilliance/fire/scintillation and light leakage. Alongside their high setting prices this store was a hard pass. But ahhh, those beautiful settings.
Frank Darling:
(i) created a 4 diamond flight for me to see in store.
My take: Prior to the meeting I called to ask if they would provide any of the reports described herein and they said they do not provide any of the reports, or ASET or hearts/diamond viewers, so I cancelled the meeting. No point in wasting everyone's time if I will not be provided with enough data to make an informed decision.
I.D. Jewelers (Yekutiel Davidov):
(i) showed me 1 stone in-store (and had another queued up for the following day). Provided GIA report alongside the stone and walked me through minimum specs of the GIA report (i.e., showed me how to weed out certain stones immediately, such as what depth % is optimal, what fluorescence is acceptable, etc). Provided Holloway Cut Report and Gemex report via request.
(ii) Setting quoted at $850-$1,100 depending on 14k or 18k gold preference.
My take: Super friendly and knowledgeable service. The diamond graded very well on all 3 reports but the diamond price was on the higher side. However, with the lowest setting price of all the retailers, the total net price was the same as almost all the others and within budget. Only required $1k down. Ultimately was my 2nd favorite diamond. Would've been great to see the diamond through an ASET or Light Scope Viewer but decided not to as I found another slightly larger diamond that passed all the tests.
David S Diamonds:
(i) showed me 2 in-store diamonds. Provided all the reports and viewers described herein. Also provided training as to why I needed all the reports and viewers (full disclosure - this is the store that explained why I needed all the reports and viewers described herein). So obviously he'd provide everything.
(ii) Setting quoted at $950 (14k).
My take: Very friendly and patient in-store service generous with their time. Provided training on how to buy a diamond and implored me to go back out and to the retailers and shop with my new knowledge (before buying). Showed me a diamond I ultimately bought (2.03 carat, J, VVS2, GIA certified, excellent Gemex scores, excellent under light scope, clean hearts and arrows). Saved me ~$2,200-$3,500 vs the other stores with excellent confidence that the stone I bought is as good as it can get within my budget and specs.
James Allen:
Also shopped online at James Allen and even looked at the "competitor" diamonds that the Holloway Report showed once I ran that report. James Allen's True Hearts competitive diamond (with similar specs and grades) was over $5,000 more than the diamond I purchased. And this from the "low cost" online retailer without a storefront.
Other retailers: Kamni, R&R Jewelry and NYC Wholesale Diamonds could not accommodate in-person meetings the week I was in town so I couldn't asses them.
To sum up, if someone wanted me to recommend them a place to start, I'd start with David S Diamonds to get the learning he provides. Then once you have a diamond and price you like from him - go to Yekutiel at I.D. Jewelers and see if he can source something similar at a similar (or better) price. This way you'll have a few options to choose from. You can also double check either of the diamonds you found vs James Allen (or Blue Nile) once you pull the Holloway Cut Report (or have David So or Yekutiel Davidov provide you the Rapport pricing for the diamonds they are showing). This may give you some confidence that you're getting a decent value/price.
If I had to start this process over again, I would not visit any of the diamond stores that have storefronts and significant overhead - I discovered many of them are Instagram stores - selling much lower quality diamonds for the same price because they are popular among the IG crowd . Further, from my limited experience, their settings are way overpriced in comparison and their deposit policies (generally 50% down) are absurd. After all they haven't given you the diamond yet... all you should be required to pay for is the setting.
Finally, please know I am not a diamond expert, and am just a noob who is sharing their learnings over a very small period and very small sample size. I'm simply sharing what I learned and if it helps someone, great. If not - feel free to ignore.
