Stock futures slip after S&P 500 notches highest close since August: Live updates

Stocks futures slipped Wednesday after the S&P 500 notched its highest closing level of 2023.
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 38 points, or 0.1%. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq-100 futures were down 0.1% each.
The tail-end of earnings season pressed on with results from Dave & Buster’s and Stitch Fix. Dave & Buster’s gained about 3%, while Stitch Fix added 5%.
Stocks edged higher during Tuesday’s session. The broad index added 0.24% to finish at its highest level since August 2022, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.36% to end at its highest close in 2023. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked 10.42 points higher, or 0.03%, pressured by health stocks Merck and UnitedHealth.
Seven major S&P sectors finished Tuesday’s session with gains. The financial sector added 1.3%, boosted by regional banking stocks and bellwethers like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.
Tuesday’s uptrend trailed last week’s blowout rally. However, continued modest gains instead of sharp pullbacks after a major upswing could signal more good news ahead, said Adam Sarhan, CEO of 50 Park Investments.
“The fact that it refuses to fall to me is extremely bullish,” he said. “Normally, after a big run up, you see a market pullback, and when the market doesn’t pull back and goes sideways, that to me is very bullish.”
A light period for economic data continues ahead of next week’s Federal Reserve policy meeting, with trade balance data due out before the bell Wednesday. Earnings from Campbell Soup and GameStop are also on deck.

2023.06.07 07:45 chay86 So my party got Gundren killed...

Kind of my fault. I had been finding little reasons to make the party succeed and got a bit complacent.
After wiping out the Rebrands, the party beelined straight for Cragmaw Castle (with Droop as a guide), where two new players joined the game. The goblin army didn't stand a chance and the combined might of Grol, Glasstaff and Vyerith was for nought.
When it became clear that Grol was about to die, Vyerith took Gundren hostage and escaped with a knife to his throat and with no map. After the fight was over, the druid wildshaped into a wolf and went after her. I had plans for the doppleganger, so I decided that she would abandon the unconscious Gundren and flee to preserve herself.
The party took the Gundren to a nearby camp and this is where things went a bit sideways. You see, I play D&D in a common space at work after hours and it's a big company, so there are actually 3 games going on - sometimes playing on the same day. One of the other groups was supposed to be playing, but the majority of them cancelled last minute, leaving two players hanging around with nothing to do. I decided they could "guest star" in my campaign and had them wander into camp while the party was resting.
I had no idea what kind of characters they would be playing, so when it became apparent that they were intending to rob my players, I decided that it wasn't the first time they had tried this. I created a band of Rebrands that had been fleeing from Tresendar Manor. The rogues had joined their camp the night before and since the fight had been knocked out of the Rebrands, they accepted the company before being cleaned-out of any valuables. The Rebrands remnants caught up with the rogues at the party's camp and a fight broke out.
With seven players, it was chaos but the Rebrands fell very easily. Since it was approaching the end of the evening, I decided on one last hoorah and I told them that following an explosion caused by the party's rogue, they heard thunderous footsteps and snapping trees as the noise had attracted a hill giant. I thought it would be fun to see all seven players bring it down. Instead, they immediately opted to run. The first time they have ever done so.
They ran for half an hour until I realised that Gundren was still unconscious at the camp. Immediately after I realised, so did the party. I have decided not to pull strings to keep Gundren alive. He has been flattened. But when the party's druid once again decided to return to go after Gundren, I had him find the camp flattened, the smell of blood heavy in the air, but no bodies. He followed a trail until he found another camp with two "drow" (dopplegangers) and a cart full of dead Rebrands (I'm going to have the big bad raise them as zombies later). The druid did not get close enough to determine if Gundren's body was among them. He then wisely chose to return to the party and head back to Phandalin.
The party's dwarf fighter had swiped the map from one of Grol's treasure chests but had not yet inspected it. Since I don't want the party to bypass all of the chapter three content and go straight to wave echo cave, I decided to throw up a roadblock here. The map is enchanted. By default, it shows an area of Neverwinter Woods and if tilted, appears to show the location of the mine and it's layout. But the image keeps shifting and the more a person tries to focus on it, the harder it is to perceive. The deal here is that to the rest of the party, the map appears blank. The first enchantment means that only the owner of the map can see anything (and ownership passed to the fighter the moment Gundren died), but they still need to figure out how to read it.
I'm now dropping breadcrumb trails that will send them off in search of a powerful magic user (Hammond Cost, Agatha or Reidoth) in order to learn more of the map's secrets before they can simply storm the mines.
And at the end of the last session as one last gag, I had a doppleganger appear in Barthen's provisions disguised as Gundren, looking for "his map" that he must have dropped when the party rescued him. The party has no idea that dopplegangers exist and so are now doubting the report that the druid gave, especially since he could not verify that Gundren's body was present.
I'm looking forward to messing with my party some more going forward, but does anyone have any ideas for fun things that I can do with this scenario?

2023.06.07 07:43 nsideus Trip Report - 19 days in Japan with an infant and a toddler

We are a family of 4 with two young kids, a toddler who’s nearing 3 years old and an infant who is 9 months old. We visited Japan in May of 2023 for 18 nights. We stayed in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, and took day trips to Nara and Kobe.
Some people might call us crazy for taking an international trip with two small children. But my wife and I, who were avid travelers before we had kids, hadn’t been out of the country since 2019 due to 1) having kids and 2) Covid. We were itching for a trip, so we took the chance. Were there some crazy times? Of course. Was it worth it? Definitely.
I did a lot of research and prep before the trip, but there are always surprises that come up when you have kids. I’ll try to share some of the lessons I learned on the trip.
—Flights—
This was our first time on an airplane with the kids. I was a bit worried beforehand and in retrospect the flights were the worst parts of the trip. The main advice I’d give is do as much as you can to make your flight more tolerable, which no doubt means spending more money on tickets and gear. But it’s worth it.
I considered a few different airlines for this trip: ZipAir, Singapore, ANA, and Japan Airlines. JAL was too expensive. ZipAir was interesting because they provide car seats, you don’t have to take your own. We didn’t rent a car in Japan so we didn’t need our own car seats. I was just worried about racking up extra fees on ZipAir. Singapore and ANA were similar, they both provide bassinets and the price was similar. I ended up going with ANA for two reasons: 1) I had flown ANA on a previous trip and been happy with them and 2) they fly to Haneda instead of Narita, which saves you time getting from the airport to your hotel.
We opted for 3 seats and a bassinet. My infant is big for her age so she barely fit in the bassinet (she’s 21 pounds). But we were glad to have it. I had to call in to ANA customer service which had an hour+ wait time to get the bassinet, but other than that it was no trouble.
Which leads me into probably the most important part of flying with kids on a lengthy flight: get your kids to sleep on the plane. The more they sleep the less likely you are to run into a tantrum or meltdown.
To encourage sleeping we did a few things: 1) Take an overnight flight 2) Get a bassinet for our infant 3) Get a JetKids bed box for our toddler. Our ANA flight from LAX left at 5pm, which allowed time for the dinner service to show up before we put our kids to bed. They set the bassinet up right after you get to cruising altitude, so it’s there the majority of the flight. Our infant rejected it at first but eventually fell asleep.
As far as our toddler sleeping, the JetKids worked well. There was a bit of trouble with it staying in place since we had bulkhead seats, but overall I was happy with it as a bed. I absolutely hate the JetKids a piece of luggage though, it’s not easy to lug around and holds nearly nothing. But it helped our toddler stay asleep most of the flight. You don’t necessarily need a JetKids though, other airline seat bed solutions may work just as well. Just bring something that will help your toddler sleep. If we had to do it again, I think I’d prefer having car seats over both the bassinet and JetKids. That’s probably what we’ll do on the next trip.
There were a few unexpected problems we ran into on the flights. On the first flight, our infant got motion sickness and spit up multiple times. She ruined one of my shirts and my wife’s pants. Not to mention my wife got motion sickness as well so I had to do most of the heavy lifting with the kids alone. It was a sleepless and messy flight.
On our flight home, there was a mechanical issue with the plane. They said we were losing oil. So on a Tokyo to Los Angeles flight we somehow ended up landing In Anchorage, Alaska. It goes without saying this was horrible and the flight home from Anchorage on Alaska Airlines was horrible too. But that’s not really relevant to flying to/from Japan so I’ll leave the details out. We won’t be flying with ANA ever again.
To reiterate, do what you can to make your flight easier. Get the non-stop flight. Get the extra seat. This isn’t the area to be frugal.
—Stroller—
So you survived the flight. How do you get your kids around once you’ve landed? We have two kids so we need a twin stroller right? Wrong. Taking a twin stroller to Japan is a huge mistake, don’t do it.
Most guides will tell you to use a carrier, and if you only have one small infant then that’s likely the way to go. But with two kids we used a travel stroller and carrier combo. At first I expected to only use the carrier and carry the stroller around until we needed it, but I quickly realized that carrying the stroller around all day is a huge pain. We have the Cybex Libelle which is small at 13lbs, but 13lbs is still heavy enough that you don’t want to carry it all day.
So our stroller remained deployed basically all the time. My infant sat in the stroller most of the day, until it was my toddler’s nap time. Then the infant went in the carrier and toddler in the stroller to sleep. It worked well for us.
How did we keep the stroller deployed the whole time? Elevators. Lots of elevators. And occasionally carrying it up and down stairs. The availability of elevators depends on where you are. Of the cities we visited, I’d say Tokyo is the best and Kyoto is the worst for elevator availability.
The wide majority of metro and train stations are going to have elevators. It can be hard to find the right entrance to use to find an elevator, but there is always signage and almost always a map. You may need to walk an extra 5 minutes, or wait in line, or get lost, so always give yourself extra time when catching a train if you are using your stroller. We spent a LOT of time looking for elevators on this trip.
We only found two stations our whole trip that had no elevator at all, one was the JR Kobe station and the other was a JR station in Tokyo (I forget which one). When this happened, I picked up the stroller and carried it with our infant in it on the stairs. If our toddler was in it I made her get up and walk, then carried the stroller.
The other problem at metro / train stations with a stroller is the gap between the train and the platform. There’s always either a gap or the train and platform are at different elevations. You don’t have a lot of time to get on / off the train so this was a constant source of anxiety. Once our stroller wheel got stuck in between the train and the platform. It took some effort to pop it out. Another time my toddler stepped in the gap, but luckily I was holding her hand and stopped her from falling in. Always be mindful of the gap when you have kids. It’s probably one of the least safe situations you’ll constantly run into in Japan.
Malls and shopping centers almost always have elevators. You may need to wait a while to get one though. In the malls with 10+ floors, you might need to wait 5 minutes for an elevator. Sometimes they have “priority” elevators for the handicapped and strollers but often times perfectly abled people rudely take up all the space in those elevators.
We thought we would have trouble taking our stroller into restaurants but it was actually much less trouble than expected. There was only one restaurant that flat out turned us away, Sushi Tokyo Ten in Roppongi. Other establishments will usually move a chair so you can put your stroller at the table or counter where the chair was.
So overall the stroller was annoying to use but I don’t think we could have done the trip without it. It was a necessary evil with two young kids.
—Shinkansen—
We used the Shinkansen to get between cities. We had two trips, Tokyo to Kyoto and Osaka to Tokyo. We did not bother with the JR Pass, it wasn’t worth it. Mostly because our trips were 8 days apart so we would’ve needed the 14 days pass which wasn’t worth it for two Shinkansen trips.
One thing that caught us off-guard about the Shinkansen is how quickly it leaves a station when it makes a stop. We were expecting to have some time to get on when the train arrived, but it’s basically the same as a Metro stop. You have to get on right away. We made the mistake of buying a reserved seat for a train leaving in less than 15 minutes, without knowing where the elevator was. So we scrambled to get to where we needed to go on the platform and were the last ones on the train. We jumped on the train at the last second, we wanted to get to our specific car from the platform but we weren’t going to make it. It’s a miracle we didn’t lose a piece of luggage or a kid on the way. On the second trip I reserved a seat on a train that was 40 minutes out.
As far as seating we only needed to buy two seats. We would have put our toddler on our lap if needed, but we didn’t need to. Basically, one side of the train has 2 seats and the other 3. If you find a row that has the window seat open on the 3 seat side, then it is very unlikely anyone will sit in the aisle seat if you reserve the window and middle seat. We basically got a free seat for our toddler this way on both trips.
—Baby supplies—
We had more trouble than expected finding baby supplies. A lot of guides online tell you to go to drugstores, and maybe we were going to the wrong drugstores but that wasn’t working out for us. We were distraught until we by chance came across Babies R Us. Yes, the Babies R Us that went out of business in the USA. We happened to be browsing the malls in Odaiba when we came across this gem. It’s a treasure trove of western style baby food and supplies.
Our infant is in the “purée” food stage and we didn’t find any in drugstores. Most of the baby food is juice or rice porridge. Babies R Us has aisles worth of puréed food. It has diapers, wet wipes, formula, nose cleaners, and basically anything else you’d ever want for your baby. We stocked up on everything when we found this place. There are several locations but we went to the Odaiba location in Tokyo and the Harborland location in Kobe.
Another smaller store we found in the mall below Tokyo Skytree is Dadway. They don’t have as much as Babies R Us but we did pick up some purée here.
The other place we picked up diapers and a few others things is Don Quijote, which has locations all over the place. Their baby food collection is basically as limited as drugstores, but it’s fine in a pinch.
—Eating—
I’ve spoken a lot about logistics, but I had one primary reason for going to Japan: to eat tasty food. I had been to Japan once before I had kids and fell in love with the food.
Most guides will tell you families should go to family restaurants. Nope. Not happening. We did not go to a single Saizeriya or Bikkuri Donkey. And I definitely did not go through all of this trouble to eat at Denny’s. We went to a total of ZERO family restaurants.
I’m here to tell you there are plenty of good restaurants you can go to with kids. Even with a baby. Even with a baby and a toddler.
I’ll tell you my main approach to finding restaurants that will allow kids to dine with you. Your main tools are: Tablelog, Google Maps, and the individual restaurant websites. Tablelog is a great tool and their “with children” section on the restaurant info page is very accurate. If a restaurant is listed as “Babies are welcome” or “Baby Strollers accepted”, then you can very likely eat there with a baby. If a place does not have such a listing, it isn’t necessarily a no, it’s a maybe. That’s when you need to search Google Maps reviews for “kids”, “children”, “family” to see if anyone mentions the restaurant’s stance on such things. If you can’t find anything on Google Maps, go to the restaurant’s website. If they have an online reservation system, it is likely to list their stance on kids on the reservation page.
I did a lot of research beforehand and pinned all the relevant restaurants on Google Maps. That way, no matter where I was, I could find some good kid tolerant restaurants. I say “kid-tolerant” instead of “kid friendly” because I consider “kid-tolerant” to mean that they let kids in the restaurant, while “kid-friendly” means they have a kid’s menu, high chairs, etc.
We were able to eat at a wide variety of restaurants, from overpriced Michelin starred places to budget Omakase places. There are a lot of restaurants in Japan. If a restaurant doesn’t let you in because you have kids, it’s fine because there’s another similar one that will.
This is a list of good restaurants we ate at with our infant and toddler. These are just the places we made it to, there were plenty more I had on my list we didn’t make it to:
Gion Maruyama, Gion, Kyoto
Sushi Wakon, Four Seasons, Kyoto
The Oak Door, Grand Hyatt, Tokyo
Kobe Plaisir, Kobe
Roku Roku, Grand Hyatt, Tokyo
Daiwa Sushi, Toyosu Market, Tokyo
Inshotei, Ueno Park, Tokyo
Sushidan, Eat Play Works, Tokyo
Nishiya, Shinsaibashi, Osaka
Tonkatsu Wako, JR Isetan, Kyoto
Soju Dining, Tokyo Midtown, Tokyo
Imakatsu, Roppongi, Tokyo
Mizuno, Dotonbori, Osaka
Rokurinsha, Tokyo Station, Tokyo
Tsumigi, Tsukiji, Tokyo
Lots of different food stalls in Tsukiji Market, Tokyo
Other times we ate at conveyor belt sushi places, department store basements, or ramen places. The basements are a good place to get something for everyone. My toddler ate a lot of gyoza and noodles on this trip, she didn’t take a liking to much else. But Ichiran and Ippudo were right down her alley.
Tsukiji market was our go to breakfast place when we stayed in Tokyo. There’s plenty of different choices there and it opens early enough for jet-lagged families.
Overall I had a great time eating. If my toddler is eating she’s usually not having a tantrum, and we tried as best as possible to put our infant to sleep before we went to any higher end restaurants. There were some awkward tantrum moments but for the most part it was fine.
—City by City Report—
Tokyo
We had two different stays in Tokyo, the first after landing in Japan and the second right before departing Japan. We stayed a total of 10 nights in Tokyo, but we wish we had even more.
We could have come to Tokyo alone the whole trip and been perfectly content. It has the best food, the most kid friendly facilities, and there’s plenty to see and do.
Here’s a few choice things we did with the kids:
DisneySea: My toddler loved this one. We’ve been to Disneyland in SoCal but this is completely different. Even I was excited since it’s been a long while since I’ve been to an unexplored Disney park. A lot of people will say DisneySea is for older kids but there were plenty of rides my toddler could get on. It’s a great place for toddlers. A must visit with kids.
Ueno park: We spent a whole day in Ueno Park. There’s a great zoo, a fun Natural History Museum, and good restaurants. We picked up bento boxes from Inshotei and ate them at a picnic table in the zoo. I think this park is also a must do with kids.
One of the city views: you have a few choices here but we went to Tokyo Skytree and Shibuya Sky. Shibuya sky is a little less kid friendly, because they don’t allow strollers on the roof and they have some weird rules about holding your baby on the roof. I think they’re scared of a wind gust pulling your baby off the roof? I like the mall at Tokyo Skytree, and there’s a Rokurinsha there too (very good dipping ramen).
Small Worlds: This is a miniature museum on one of the man-made islands in the bay. It’s a little out of the way, but we made a day out of Toyosu Market, Small Worlds, and Odaiba. My toddler liked this one, the exhibits are interactive and fun to look at. It was better than expected.
Other than that we did a lot of eating and shopping in Tokyo for us adults.
Kyoto
Kyoto was probably our least favorite city to do with kids. In general it’s just hard to get around. There’s a lot of stroller unfriendly places. Streets without sidewalks. Rough cobblestone-like roads. Temples are not stroller friendly. Hills everywhere. Good luck getting to the top of the monkey park with a stroller. It’s definitely a trend in this city.
Maybe if you have older kids it’s fine. But if you have younger than elementary school kids it’s probably skippable. There’s not that many kid friendly activities here either. Temples aren’t interesting for kids. The best kid activity here is probably the Arashiyama Monkey Park. My toddler got a real kick out of feeding the monkeys. Just be aware there is a significant hike to get to the top of the hill where the monkeys are. My toddler is a pretty good walker, she made it all the way without crying or complaining. But I saw some other kids that didn’t fare as well.
The other thing you might try near the monkey park is the Arashiyama bamboo forest. I think it’s one of the most overrated sights in Japan though. It’s just mobbed with tourists all day. It’s not enjoyable with the crowds. I’ve been here twice and I’ve been disappointed both times.
I doubt we will be back to Kyoto any time soon.
Osaka
Osaka was nice. It was a bit refreshing to have many of the Tokyo conveniences again. Elevators everywhere, well paved and flat roads, and plenty of baby rooms.
Osaka is a good base for taking nearby day trips as well. We went to both Kobe and Nara without needing to take the Shinkansen.
The best kid experience in Osaka is the Kaiyukan aquarium. It’s big. The central tank with the whale sharks is impressive. They have lots of different animals from all over the world. It’s bigger and better than any aquarium we have in California.
The one thing I wasn’t prepared for was the lines. You need to pre-book your timed entry tickets online. We didn’t, and ended up getting tickets that were for entry two hours later. And we were there right when they opened. If I go to the aquarium at opening time on a weekday where we are from we can walk right in. Lesson learned.
We stayed in Shinsaibashi and it’s a very walkable area. There’s a covered shopping street that goes all the way down to Dotonbori. Namba is walkable from there. And America-mura is between Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori.
The Daimaru mall in Shinsaibashi is good for kids. There’s a Bornelund in there with a small indoor playground, a Pokémon Center, and good food.
I liked Osaka overall. The only thing I thought was a let down was okonomiyaki.
Nara
Nara was worth the trip. It’s about 45 minutes from Namba on the train, so not too out of the way.
There’s deer all over. Deer that bow to you. In the park, on the sidewalk, in the street. It’s a unique experience you should see at least once.
The deer are rather aggressive when you have food for them. It’s not a place where you want your kids feeding the deer. As soon as you buy the food from the street vendor, they mob you. They try to snatch the food out of your hand. Make sure you watch someone else do it first before deciding to do it yourself. If I let my toddler do it she probably would have been terrified.
The other must see in Nara is Todai-ji. It’s impressive. The giant Buddha is something. This was probably the best temple we saw on this trip, it’s visually stunning. More than anything we saw in Kyoto. I did have to carry the stroller up and down some steps, but there’s not too many.
Kobe
Kobe was great. It exceeded my expectations. The trip from Osaka is easy. We spent a full day there.
We started our one day in Kobe at the Nunobiki Herb Gardens. I wasn’t expecting too much but this place is really nice. It’s big, with lots of different gardens and exhibits to see. There’s great views as well. We took lots of pictures.
There’s a few different places to eat and drink in the gardens as well. We had some sparkling rose at “The Veranda” which had a great view of Kobe. We didn’t eat because we had a lunch reservation down the hill.
There’s a few things to watch out for. This place gets busy, so get there early. There’s no reservations, you just go early and wait in line. When we left at midday the line was massive, so get there when they open.
The herb garden only takes up the top half the hill. At first I thought it extended to the bottom of the hill, but the bottom half of the hill is actually a hiking trail without gardens. So I bought a one way gondola ticket to the top expecting to walk down all the way, but after I realized the garden ended at the middle I bought another ticket to go down (instead of getting the round trip ticket like I should have).
After the gardens we went to eat Kobe beef. Kobe Plaisir was the restaurant I chose, which was both high end and had a kids menu. The beef was great and everyone had a good time.
Afterwards we went to Harborland. It’s a nice area on the harbor that has a big boat you can go out on, and a couple of shopping malls. The Anpanman museum is here too but by the time we got there tickets were sold out for the day. This is also where you can find a Babies R Us.
Our Kobe day was one of the best days of our trip. I’d suggest a day trip here for anyone.
—Closing—
It’s hard to travel with kids this age. No doubt. Everything will take more time and be more expensive than when you used to travel alone. But I do not regret taking this trip at all. As a matter of fact I want to go back right now. My wife loved the trip, and my toddler might even remember it when she grows up. She still talks about feeding the monkeys and how dad ate a “real fish” (A Japanese sweetfish they grilled in front of us at Gion Maruyama). Japan is a great place for a first family trip.

Q) What are ability cards?

Dead Eye cards that grant abilities only active during Dead Eye, while Passive cards add abilities that are always active, no matter what you do. Passive abilities are further divided into several different categories.
In Red Dead Online, it's not possible to assign all of the available abilities to the character, as there are only 4 slots available. One slot is used for a single Dead Eye card, while the remaining three slots are used for Passive abilities. Source.

Offensive: The Offensive playing style is set as the default and is how most players traditionally interact in Free Roam – free to engage in hostile contact with other players if you are prepared to accept the potential consequences.

Red Dead Online: Roles

Q) Can I have more than 1 role active?
Yes! You can play in all roles concurrently.

Bounty Hunter Role

Q) What is the Bounty Hunter role?
Get started as a Bounty Hunter when you meet the Legendary Bounty Hunter in Rhodes and purchase the Bounty Hunter License. The standard cost is 15 Gold Bars.
Licensed Bounty Hunters can pick up work by visiting bounty boards located near law offices, post offices and train stations across the states. There is no shortage of criminals to be dealt with and the targets range in difficulty, from lone low-level petty thieves to notorious outlaws with armed protection details and a watchful eye. Taking on an armed gang or bringing multiple targets to justice is made easier with the help of a Posse, who will all earn a cut of the final bounty. And keep in mind, bringing in targets alive will yield a greater reward.
Reaching Bounty Hunter Rank 12 will open up the opportunity to take down other players with high bounties of $20 or more. Bounty Hunters will be notified through an invite about the opportunity to hunt down the wanted player when they’re nearby in a structured pursuit. The wanted player must escape (or surrender) within the allotted time and if captured, they’ll also have opportunities to escape and flee. If the Bounty Hunter brings the target in alive, they’ll receive an award while the criminal serves time.
Q) What are legendary bounties?
Legendary bounties are high-tier bounties, they usually involve a mini-story/cut scene. They're also much tougher than a regular bounty.
There are 10 legendary bounties that can be access as part of the Bounty Hunter role and 3 that can be accessed (when they've all released) by purchasing the Prestigious Bounty Hunter upgrade.

Trader Role

Q) What is the Trader role?
our trusted camp companion, Cripps, has long dreamed of starting a trading outpost and you’re going to help him make it happen - by becoming a partner in the fledgling Cripps Trading Company. Combining Cripps’ lifetime of working with animal materials and your skills at hunting and frontier security, you’ll have the perfect ingredients to develop a thriving business.
Once you agree to help Cripps, you can start turning your camp into a business by sourcing items for Cripps to convert into sellable goods. An investment of 15 Gold Bars to purchase a Butcher’s Table will get your business up and running.
Once you’re operational, you’ll provide Cripps with Materials through hunting animals – pristine pelts and carcasses will provide better yields. You’ll also take on Resupply Missions to acquire additional necessities through less than savory tactics. Once supplied, Cripps will begin turning the materials into sellable goods, which can then be sent out on low-risk local deliveries for payment or across greater distances for a premium.
Improve your hunting yields with a Hunting Wagon for larger hauls or upgrade your Delivery Wagons for larger sales. As business flourishes and your presence becomes known in the market, your competition may grow jealous of your success, so keep an eye out for raids on your camp. As your trade grows, you might consider purchasing a camp dog from Wilderness Outfitters. Not only are dogs great camp companions for all players, but a Trader of sufficient rank can teach their dog to warn of incoming attacks.
Q) Can I skip the medium wagon?
No, you need to buy the medium wagon, then the large wagon.
Q) What can I sell to Cripps?
You can sell carcasses & small animals (e.g squirrels). Along with some animal parts, e.g feathers.
Cripps does not accept meat, fish or skinned carcasses.
Q) How long does it take Cripps to make goods after resupplying?
Cripps requires materials and supplies to produce goods. You give him materials by donating carcasses and pelts. He uses two units of materials to produce one good. You either buy supplies or obtain them through resupply missions. Either way, that gives enough supplies to produce 25 goods. As long as both materials and supplies are available, Cripps produces 1 good every 2 minutes (1 in-game hour).

Collector Role

Q) What is the Collector role?
Seek out the mysterious travelling saleswoman Madam Nazar to acquire the Collector’s Bag and get started on the path of the Collector. It will cost 15 Gold Bars for access to collecting and selling rare items.
With Madam Nazar’s help, you will be able to explore the world finding valuable treasures, whether they’re discarded Tarot cards in abandoned camps, buried treasures unearthed with your trusty shovel, hidden family heirlooms and more.
Collect individual pieces and sell them off directly to Madam Nazar or collect entire sets for even more valuable sales. As you progress, you’ll unlock enhanced searching skills; more useful tools like a metal detector; benefits like increased carrying capacities; the ability for your horse to directly pluck and pass herbs to you while mounted, and more.
Q) Where is Madam Nazar?
Madam Nazar can be located by completing a map/collection for her. Her location is posted daily on /RedDeadDailies - She changes location at 6am UTC time each day.
You can also find her using https://madamnazar.io/
Q) Who is Madam Nazar?
Madam Nazar is the Collector role vendor, you can obtain maps, cosmetics & other items such as the shovel from her.
Q) Why is Madam Nazar?
...
Q) Where do you buy a shovel?
From Madam Nazar, it costs $350. If you need help finding her, check /RedDeadDailies
Q) Where do you buy a metal detector?
From Madam Nazar, it unlocks at level 5 and costs $700. If you need help finding her, check /RedDeadDailies
Q) Can you sell collector items individually or does it need to be a full set?
Yes, however you get far less money than you would if you sold a full collection
Q) Can you only have one collector map active?
Yes, if you try to open a second map, it may auto-close and almost looks like a bug, however, you should only try and activate one at any given time.

Moonshiner Role:

Q) I already met Maggie but I didn't buy a shack, now I can't find how to buy the shack?
In the options menu (left on the D-pad, or L on PC), select "Camp & Properties" → "Moonshine Shack" → "Shack Location".

2023.06.07 05:30 xtremexavier15 TSROTI 6 (pt 2)

"What do you mean I'm liable if the yeti eats Lindsay?" Chris asked frantically, his cellphone now against his ear while he continued to fan himself. "It's not my fault she's popular!" The camera zoomed out to show the host on the Dock of Shame, the two teams watching him intently a few feet away. "Gotta go," he quickly told the person he was talking to, quickly transitioning into a laugh as he turned his attention back to the campers.
"He-he-hey! For our next challenge, the two teams will...," he paused to think, "compete to rescue Lindsay!" he announced, causing the campers to share confused and disbelieving looks with one another. "Yup, that's it! Everyone grab a canoe and head to Boney Island!" The campers promptly ran off down the dock, leaving Chris to laugh nervously. "It's all good!" he reassured himself.
\
The scene flashed ahead to the two teams rowing across the lake, the Rats in a red canoe in the background with the Maggots in green in the fore.
"So it turns out the 6-way outfit we put on for the yeti did not suit his tastes," Anne Maria sighed.
"I'm sorry, guys," Katie apologized to her team. "Usually, my family and friends back home love my fashion tips. I thought it'd apply to the yeti as well."
"If it makes you feel any better, I enjoy your fashion tips," DJ comforted her.
"You do?" Katie's eyes lit up in anticipation.
"Absolutely. You just wanted us to feel involved in a way, even if it did backfire," DJ said. "It was almost, katchy, to say the least."
"You're too sweet," Katie cheered up.
Molly noticed a fog back. "Brace yourselves. We're about to enter Boney Island."
"That's good to know," Katie said as the fog moved away and cut to the island they were approaching, the skull-shaped mountain looming ominously as hollow, whooping cries echoed across the water.
\
A seamless cut ahead took the scene to Scarlett, Trent, and Scott running through the slightly-barren woods of Boney Island one right after the other. "Lindsay! Where are you?" Trent called, and the camera zoomed in on Scott's rather scheming face.
Confessional: Scott
"Chris is gonna merge the teams any day now," Scott said. "It's time to start getting serious. Trent is a nice guy, and I'll need someone like him to help with the votes."
Confessional Ends
Trent was shown panting as he ran along with worry in his eyes, and the camera panned back to Scott as he cleared his throat. "Trent, can I talk to you for a second?"
Hearing that one, Trent looked back and promptly slowed down as Scott ran up closer to him. "Could it wait? We have to rescue Lindsay from that sasquatch."
"I know that," Scott said. "I just wanted to say that I feel bad for Leshawna taking your guitar from you."
"I just don't get why she'd take my most prized possession," Trent sighed. "That guitar was given to me by my uncle, and I promised to never let anything happen to it."
Scott showed a bit of remorse after hearing that. "That's... really tragic," Scott responded. "But hey, Leshawna's gone, and even if we don't have B on our team, that doesn't make us stupid or weak."
Confessional: Trent
"So maybe Scott has a sensitive side to him," Trent confessed.
Confessional: Scott
Scott simply shrugged and let out an "eh" sound.
Confessional Ends
The scene skipped ahead again, showing Geoff coming to a halt. "Guys!" he called out panting, pointing up and ahead. "The sasquatch!" The camera panned up and ahead to a cliff with scaffolding set up on its face and Sasquatachanakwa sitting with Lindsay at the top.
"Aw, it's okay, yeti." Lindsay cooed, patting the purple sasquatch on the arm. "The world just isn't ready for beauty like yours." The sasquatch wiped a tear away from his eye. "You're like a snowflake, but like a lot bigger. Like, I mean, a lot."
"What's with all the scaffolding?" Scott asked, the camera cutting back to ground-level to show that the rest of the cast had arrived.
"I'm turning Boney Island into my personal resort," Chris explained as he and Chef arrived. "The Health Department said it was unfit for human life, but I sent in workers anyway," he continued, the cast giving each other incredulous looks. "Hmm...wonder where they went?" the host asked with an oddly sly smile.
\
A flash took the focus to a gruesome scene of human bones and workers' clothes scattered around some rocks in the forest. The camera panned to the right along gnawing sounds, and a trio of wooly beavers coming into view chewing on bones and wearing hard hats and pouring out a cup of hot coffee from a thermos.
\
"Don't hurt him!" Lindsay called down to the campers. "He just has big, hairy body issues!"
"Luckily, that's not a problem for me! We gotta take that yeti out!" Dave declared to his team.
"I know what to do!" Katie immediately declared. She threw her makeup bag and watched as it flew up and hit Sasquatchanakwa.
The bag exploded to reveal that he was now wearing Molly's headband, Scarlett's glasses, Anne Maria's blouse, DJ's shorts, Katie's socks, and Dave's sneakers, but they were colored all in pink unintentionally.
Everyone laughed at Sasquatchanakwa, but this only angered the sasquatch even more, causing him to jump up and down.
Confessional: Dave
"In retrospect, we probably should've double checked to see if there was any pink dye in our bag!" Dave confessed sheepishly.
Confessional: Katie
"I wasn't trying to make the sasquatch look bad. I was trying to stop him from kidnapping people," Katie told the viewers. "That sounds about right."
Confessional Ends
The raging ape-man jumped across the clifftop, his landings shaking through the stone and causing parts of the scaffolding to come lose – the right side of the top level, then the left side of the next, then right side of the level below that, and the left side of the very bottom level providing a convenient series of ramps up the side of the cliff. He then took off the clothes designed on him, rolled it into a ball, and chucked it at Katie, knocking her out.
The camera panned over to the Maggots, the members huddled together with the exception of Katie. "There are four poles holding up the scaffolding and five of us. Anne Maria, Molly, Dave, and I will climb the poles to draw the yeti's attention. As the strongest and most comparable to the yeti in size, DJ can run up the platforms and confront it directly," Scarlett told the plan to her team.
"I'll go up to the yeti, but I don't want to harm him," DJ said. "It's just not me."
"As long as we rescue Lindsay, I'm fine with what we're doing," Molly shrugged.
"And what about Katie?" Anne Maria pointed to the sleeping girl.
"Let her rest until she regains consciousness," DJ told his team. "She got hit pretty bad."
\
"How are we gonna rescue Lindsay before they do?" Scott asked as the focus cut over to the Rats watching their rivals put their plan into action.
"We could get someone prettier than Lindsay to lure the yeti away?" Geoff suggested.
"With me, Scott, and Geoff being males, there's no chance of the both of us charming him," Trent said.
"I have makeup, but without a mirror, I can't see what I'm doing," Sierra sighed.
Sammy saw everyone looking at her. "There is no getting out of this one."
Confessional: Sierra
"I know what I told Sammy before," Sierra confessed, "but she could develop her boldness here by stopping the yeti."
Confessional Ends
"Go Team Maggot!" Anne Maria called as she, Scarlett, DJ, Molly, and Dave were shown beginning their ascent, DJ taking the scaffolding itself while the other members climbed up the scaffolding's support beams. Sasquatchanakwa quickly noticed them and picked up a barrel from a nearby pile, then tossed a barrel at Dave, then DJ. Both boys let out pained grunts and the camera cut to the sasquatch as he threw more barrels, the girls letting out grunts of their own. The camera cut to Anne Maria, Molly, and Scarlett as they landed on top of their male teammates.
The camera focused on Katie as she woke up from her unconscious state. "What the?" she wondered as she saw her teammates on the ground in pain and looked up to see Sasquatchanakwa holding Lindsay captive. "So it seems they tried to do the challenge, but were unlucky. I could flirt with the sasquatch, but that's, like, gross." She let out a quick whimper at the sight of it.
"I'll just have to distract the yeti in some way," Katie concluded before running up the scaffolding.
The Maggots got up in time to see their perky teammate run up to Sasquatchanakwa. "Wow. Katie's going for it," Dave sighted her.
Katie saw the barrels coming her way and jumped above all of them.
"Katie, watch out," Scarlett warned her.
Katie saw a hammer in her path and picked it up. "Thanks for letting me know! Now I can distract him!" She continued to jump over the barrels.
\
"Are you sure this will make me look good?" Sammy asked with a hint of skepticism in her voice as the scene cut to the Rats, her back to the camera as Sierra got to work with a powder puff in one hand and a make-up brush in the other. The boys watched with variable interest behind Sierra.
"Of course," Sierra reassured her. "My mother used this makeup for parties and it usually attracts attention from everybody that's in the room."
"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Maggots are already ahead of us," Trent looked at their direction.
Geoff was shocked to hear that and grabbed Sierra's puff and brush. "We gotta hurry or else we'll be on the biggest losing streak!" he yelped and quickly applied makeup to Sammy.
"Finally!" Sammy said in relief. Trent gasped in shock and DJ, who was merely passing by, took a look at her and shrieked and fainted in terror.
Sammy puffed up proudly. "So that's what Francesca means about drop dead gorgeous. Alright yeti!" she called out as the camera showed her from the neck down walking away. "Your princess is here!"
"Why'd you rush the makeup process?" Scott asked after Sammy had left.
"I didn't think the yeti would be shallow," Geoff answered.
\
Back at the top of the scaffolding, Katie had gotten tired from all the running she had to do and resorted to dragging her hammer on the floor. She took a leap when she saw an oncoming barrel and fell face first on the floor. "I really need to be motivated right now."
"You're almost there. Get up," Dave called out supportedly.
"Go take down that giant hairball!" Molly encouraged.
"Don't fall off the scaffolding, Katie!" DJ advised her loudly.
Katie heard their encouragement and got up. "They're counting on me. I'm not gonna let them down."
Picking up her hammer, she dashed bravely to Sasquatchanakwa and threw the hammer at him, but he caught it with zero effort. He then grabbed Katie's head and effortlessly tossed her off the scaffolding, resulting in her landing in front of the Maggots with a thud.
"Are you gonna be okay?" Anne Maria bent down to check on her friend.
Katie got her head up. "I'm fine-kay!" she mumbled goofily.
\
A flash took the focus back to the top just as Sammy ran on to the scene, finally revealing the new look Geoff had given her – which amounted to large amounts of blue crayon as eye shadow and the bottom half of her face a swirl of red and green lipstick.
"Uhh...hey there...big yeti...," Sammy said awkwardly. "How's it like being... tall?"
Lindsay and Sasquatchanakwa stared at the made-up girl. "See? That's another what not to do." the blonde said to the ape-man before they burst into fits of laughter.
"Okay. I'm done here!" Sammy scowled, running forward to the surprise of the two non-competitors. She suddenly and swiftly kicked Sasquatchanakwa between the legs, sending him flying off the scaffolding.
DJ helped Katie off the floor. "You did good up there on your own."
"I may not be using technology right now, but that doesn't mean I can rely on it forever," Katie quoted before Sasquatchanakwa fell down at the spot she was just in.
"Team Rat, you've got immunity," Chris announced as he flew up with his jetpack, and the Rats on the ground cheered.
"Aww!" Molly griped as the camera panned to the disappointed faces of her and the Maggots.
Lindsay was currently applying makeup to herself until Sammy snatched it from her. She gasped, and then looked down at Geoff. "I would be mad, but I'm just glad this is all over."
"Time to head back to camp," Chris said, "Maggots," the shot cut down to them as they shared a nervous look, "you've got some voting to do."
\
An owl hooted as the footage flashed ahead to a shot of the island at night then zooming in to the campfire pit. Unusually, both teams were present – the Rats on the left, and the Maggots on the right.
"Well that was a complete fiasco!" Chris opened, him and Chef standing ready with their respective marshmallows. "Scarlett, your plans kept blowing up in your face and the yeti's," he said, the brainiac in the front row looking unnerved. "And Katie," the camera moved behind Scarlett, "you dropped the barrel on this one." She started to look nervous.
"As a result," the host continued, picking up two marshmallows from his tray as the camera cut to his close-up, "the first two to get their marshmallows are Dave and Anne Maria."
They caught their treats with smiles. "Also safe is Molly and DJ."
Molly smiled when she caught her marshmallow, though DJ looked a bit concerned.
"Now then, the Toxic Marshmallow of Loserdom goes to," Chris said as Chef took out the toxic marshmallow. As the tension built, the camera cut to close-ups of Scarlett's wide-eyed gaze, then to Katie's tensed-up face, and finally to Chris's impish smile as he announced...
"Katie."
The Influencer looked down and groaned. The toxic marshmallow bounced off her head and she winced.
"Sorry I messed up the challenge for us," Katie said as she stood up. "I really should depend less on using my vlogging experiences in situations."
"I'm just glad you were able to not go crazy without talking to your tablet," Dave smiled at her.
"I am going to miss your fashion skills," Anne Maria said to Katie.
"I'll miss you too," Katie promised before being grabbed by the back of her white hoodie courtesy of Chef and taken to the Hurl of Shame.
"Thank you Chef," Chris said with a smile. "Now for something very special. Toxic Rats, you're probably wondering why I asked you to sit in on this elimination ceremony." The shot cut to the team of five, all of them watching the host with anxious suspicion. "I'll need a strong volunteer from each team," he told them.
"Right here," Geoff said, standing up proudly from the Rats' front row.
"I'll volunteer!" DJ added from his seat next to Anne Maria.
"Pack your baa~ags!" Chris told them impishly.
"You're hurling them, too?!" Sierra asked in shock.
"Nah," Chris dismissed, "I don't give people time to pack before they get hurled! These two are switching teams!"
Everyone gasped but the two guys in question, who just smiled and walked towards their 'new' teammates, exchanging high-fives as they passed each other.
Geoff sat next to Anne Maria, who smiled lightly. "Looks like we're teammates now," Anne Maria said happily.
"This is gonna be sweet!" Geoff cheered, to which Scarlett took notice.
The shot cut to DJ as he stood in front of his new team. "Glad to have you on our team," Trent welcomed the friendly giant.
"I appreciate it, but there's something I have to do before I settle in with you guys," DJ informed his new team before jogging away.
\
The scene flashed to the docks, Katie sitting sadly in the bucket of the Hurl of Shame as Chris approached her. "Any last words before your ride to loserdom?" he asked in a taunting manner.
"Yeah," Katie nodded, the camera panning out to show Chef playing a game on her tablet. "Since I'm out of the game, can I have my tablet back?"
Chef finished the last level he was on and tossed the tablet back to Katie, who hugged her electronic cheerfully before putting it inside her pocket.
"Don't launch the catapult yet!" DJ yelled off-screen before coming into view and in front of Katie's eye.
"Wow! You came to see me before I left?" Katie chinned up with delight.
"Sure I did," DJ nodded.
Katie pulled out her slip of paper from the first episode and gave it to him. "If you want to see more of me, head over to my channel, like, comment, and subscribe."
DJ chuckled a bit from her line and pulled out a necklace and two bracelets made out of last episode's breakfast. "I made this for you just to give you something to remember me by."
Katie put on the meat-like necklace and bracelets. "Great minds really do think alike. Before I go, I just want to let you know that I've always been into YOU!" she yelled as she was catapulted off into the night.
DJ watched her fly off into the night, then dawned a look of sadness while walking back to his team. "I've always been into you too."
Chris laughed. "Oops," he turned and told the camera as the series's capstone theme began to play. "Who will be the next loser hurled? How much can we humiliate them first? And how will Dave try to hold in his bladder for another hour?"
"Hey!" Dave was heard saying.
Chris ignored him and finished his outro. "Find out next time, on Total! Drama! Revenge, of the Island!"

2023.06.07 05:25 MoroseApostrophe Seeking further misery in a vagrant/hobo playthrough.

Survival/injury mods tend to be my thing, but after a very satisfying stint on The Island where I started out with nothing but a rock and some pants, I've realized that anything similar in Skyrim proper is usually just cosplaying as a survivalist. Sure, you could scrounge around for pelts and the like in the woods until you can make a tent, but Falkreath is, like, ten minutes walk away, and they sell one for 80 septims or so. As such, I'm currently picking mods to increase general economic hardship and law enforcement jerkishness, so that camping in the woods becomes that much more appealing. I've found quite a few, but have a few features I'm hoping to add, and would welcome any suggestions as to how to do it.
In terms of survival mods, I'm using enough that it doesn't bear repeating, but to summarize I'm using Campfire/Hunterborn/Frostfall, and my needs are based off of Last Seed. I have more wilderness crafting mods than you can craft, then shake, a stick at.
I'm already adding:
SV Mods Menu, for Hunting Requires Permit, Crafting Requires Permission, and More Punishable Crimes (to cover poaching and a variety of other misdemeanors). HRP says that killing animals within the view of guards will count as a crime. Does anyone know if the guards will arrest me for getting mauled by a bear, or is self-defense allowed?
Simply Knock, to take shelter during storms and the like.
Loot and Degradation
Scarcity
Cutthroat Merchants (I'm told it'll work fine for SE despite being for Oldrim)
Reduced Gold Awards
Coherent Inn Prices
More Immersive Activations, to make navigating towns a bit more fraught
There are a good many other things I'm hoping for. Some of them are rather a stretch or very niche, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask if they exist.
Vagrancy laws, that criminalize getting caught sleeping outdoors by a guard (already covered in town by Campfire, but not along roads)
Chance to catch diseases or other penalties by sleeping in the cruder forms of shelter (tents and other things not so much, but a pile of leaves or a pile of hay should have risks)
Ability to sleep/take shelter in stables (probably can be done in the framework I already have, but I'd be amused if there was a specific mod for it that I couldn't find)
Ability to speechify/do odd jobs for NPC homeowners to crash in a guest room or by the fireside for the night
Overhaul of the thane perks so that guards consistently overlook petty infractions instead of forgiving a single big bounty.
Enhanced ability to join/interact with the khajiit caravans.
Expansion of beggapoachehobo culture, such as more wanderers or shantytowns.
Taking crops from fields is theft. I'm using Last Seed rather than iNeeds, and Don't Steal My Crops! is Oldrim.
More expensive carriages/ability to sneak onto carriages en route or otherwise hitch rides. .
Some sort of minor social utility/benefit/penalties granted by wearing normal/fancy/poor clothing. Anything to incentivize not going to the market looking like I'm about to storm Skuldafn, in other words.
Adding scenes where guards arrest/fine anyone besides me and Brand-Shei who break the law.
Tents/other survival gear degrades over time and must be repaired or replaced.
Tempting reasons to take skooma and other drugs and regret it afterwards.
Taxes: I've looked at Simple Taxes, and want something more organic than "deducted automatically from your funds" or "the IRS employs infallible couriers to inexorably track you down". Meanwhile, Taxes of the Nine Holds looks closer to what I'd like, but it tracks your taxes as bounties. I use Wintersun, and if you worship any of the Divines they'll register any bounties as "openly breaking the laws of Skyrim", and you'll be out a deity in short order.
Forced labor, chain gangs, what have you, for lawbreakers, both in response to your own crimes and encountered throughout the holds.
Charities sponsored by the various churches and possibly other organizations, with options to both do work for them and to seek help from them.
Anything else that promotes the feeling of a grinding low fantasy setting, where society is as much as a threat as the dragons. Racism, classism, various -isms welcome.

Any thoughts for finding IR commands for an OL800 Solar Obstruction Light
So, I have acquired this guy quite a while back off of an old job site. When I had acquired it, it was stuck on a Flash pattern that got pretty annoying.

Right now, I'm looking for a step in the right direction on mimicking the IR Programming remote, there is supposedly a full menu you can access via IR where you can set the Date/Time, on/off schedule, Light intensity, flash patterns.

Reading through it's documentation, Apparently it can be programmed to have different intensity output, as well as an Always on mode, which is ideally what i'm looking for. my first thoughts were to see if it would be useful for an outdoor light for the camping spot so we're not blasting white light everywhere, of course depending on what I can do with it.

I have since had it stored in the shed to stop the helicopters from trying to land in my back yard where I had it sitting when I had picked it up.

I have ran through all the default IR sequences that are on the flipper, and have had a constant response from the unit when the universal TV power gets to approximately 93%, very repeatable.

every once in a while I will get a different set of flashes around 60% or so, but not near as repeatable as the above mentioned.

I am going to try to use the IRDB and burn through that list to see if I can get different results.

2023.06.07 05:13 PlobGnarTheGnarShnar Got fired after coming back from being on work leave from doctor.

For full context- I worked at Dave and Busters up till today, and I have injury on my left foot that I needed to get a brace and boot for before I could return to work.
I sent the doctors notes immediately as I received them, I had two sent to them- Thurs last week and Fri the previous week. I was scheduled to work the Thursday of the previous week and all days from Mon-Fri of the week after.
My doctors note excused me for all of that, and I communicated all of the information with the store and with my manager. I come in today, as I was scheduled, and I'm told I'm being fired for no call no showing for Thursday before I sent the note in Friday, and Wed, the day before I sent them the next note. And I was told I didn't communicate at all with the store. This is in many ways incorrect.
Now, I could have sent the notes quicker to them, but they don't have a fax machine, and I don't have a vehicle rn, so I couldn't pick up the note across town (30min drive), and they knew that, and knew I would have to send it when I received it via the online portal. I sent the notes as soon as I could and kept my boss updated along the process. I called the store all throughout this process, on 4 separate occasions. The first date they say I didn't call out, I did call, and didn't receive an answer so I contacted my boss directly.
All of this is on my phone proving it to my employer. Do I have a legal case here? I feel I may have been illegally fired. Should I get a consultation and present this information? 🤔 That's what I'm trying to figure out. I can supply any more information if needed!!! I was not paid out for anything either and I worked there for almost near 2 years at this point.

EssaysI currently have a rough draft but idk if I want to trauma dump because every time I talk about it, it brings a lot of emotion. It's basically about the process of overcoming my mother being diagnosed with cancer and being told she had months to live. She was constantly in surgery/therapies. Thankfully, she is fine now, but it was a pretty low point in my life leading up to freshman year of HS. I also want to focus on how the event impacted my values/future goals/personality without it being a sob story if that makes sense.
Where I am ApplyingTexasI am currently auto-admit for UT (top 6% of my class)

[←Chapter 60] [Cover Art] [My Links] [Index] [Discord] [Subreddit] [Chapter 61→]
“One of the cornerstones of understanding the nature of Nieth and Hebeen is understanding their strange religion, or religions, as the case may be. In that previous phrase, we touch upon the issue at question. Does Nieth even have a religion, as we, the followers of the Lost, blessed be them, would understand it? Already, the initial impression is strange - rather than worshipping a pantheon of gods, as is wide-spread throughout the continent, they worship one, yet all.
It might help to touch upon some relevant history, as well as some examples to illustrate the roots of such a foreign concept.
Nieth, as far as we can seek, has its roots in a nomadic peoples that travelled the great desert that wraps around its northern half. These were unlike the brutish and savage people of our own northern flood plains, more like the mystical but lowly Vieatta from the mountains past them. Still, it was enough for them to carry on the advanced and civil arts of poetry and music.
It’s within those that they encoded much of their history from early days, although without the advent of writing which other societies wisely use, some of it was subject to mythologization. Regardless, life by all accounts was strenuous out on the sands, and the sacred was pushed aside for the practical. From the practical needs of water and shade there appeared to arise a new religion, one that enfolded all primitive others within its arms as emanation of ‘Embass Aliyah’, or ‘The One and Truth’.
This may provide some illumination to the reader who may have heard of Nieth’s ‘acceptance’ of our Faith.
Within this one, unifying principle, people gravitated to the Oasis of Nieth, which was a popular way station for trade and rest. Many of the historians I have engaged suggest that the principle of ‘The One’ was a major factor in the formation Nieth as a societal centre, as well as the establishment of the Nine Princely Families. The fact that the scions of the Nine Families that I’ve had the fortune to interview claim vastly different patrons between them supports this.
The current ‘landscape’ as it were, for the religion of Neith is roughly as follows:
Perhaps one in five are adherents of our own Faith. Most, that is to say, three in five, worship the traditional, normal pantheon of Nieth, which is also the religion of the ruling prince. In addition, the sisterhood who administer Hebeen, the city of children, are drawn from this majority faith. More details on the various gods and their descriptions is enclosed in the following chapter. The remaining are split between various small and often foreign denominations, including some faiths from the First Lands.
Of these, there are two that bear special mention. The first is the actual seat of the ‘pure’ faith of ‘The One and Truth. It is a relatively small, if quite beautiful temple in the Seat of the Nine. The high priest (‘teacher-guide’ as he refers to himself) was gregarious and pleased to answer my various questions through a translator. Despite being the nominal religion of Nieth, its principles underlying the whole of the society, its actual numbers of worshippers are small. A potential reason for this is the second faith of note.
This is a separate derivation of the principles of ‘The One’ and seemingly the older of the two. It is the principal faith of the various nomadic peoples that wander the Plague Dunes of Nieth. As their account goes, the principle of ‘The One’ was revealed to the forebears of the Nine Families out in the northern deserts. The families had planted and grown an oil-bush to an impossible size (presumably why it is referred to as a tree in oral retellings), often feeding it with cruel blood sacrifices from other enemy tribes.
One night, either nine generations, nineteen, or ninety nine, depending on which account you receive, the oil tree burned. For those that know anything about oil bush, they will know it burns with a fearsome light due to the eponymous liquids within. In this case, such was the magnitude of the tree and blaze that the volatile oils exploded outwards. The founders of the Nine Families, who held council around the tree when camped in the locale, were covered in the oils.
This crude anointment, while horribly disfiguring them all, supposedly imparted revelation to them about the nature of ‘The One’. As such, the faith of ‘The One’ is strongly rooted in the depths of the desert, and many of its more zealous adherents are to be found out among the dunes, navigating the toxic and dangerous environs using methods not understood even among the Neith city-dwellers.
Hence, most of the faithful of ‘Embass Aliyah’ leave Nieth and its surrounding fiefs to live with the nomads from which their faith originated. While the high priest does not concede the idea that ‘The One’ would have a special connection to the desert, for it exists everywhere equally, he considers it understandable for people desiring to live the savage life of their ancestors. Even so, one can observe the imprint the desert has left upon the primitive church, the icon of the oil tree being central to their architecture and symbolism.
To illustrate the devouring nature of this faith, one can examine one of the most famous events in the history of Nieth, which led to the founding of its sister-city Hebeen. For those that take such an interest in the regions of the south, you might quickly realise that one of the title gods of the majority faith shares the same name as a Karkosian deity -‘Viethustra, The Bloody Handed God’.
By all accounts as brutal as he is cunning, he is also the god that provides for the administration of justice. Though all of these gods are of course false as we understand them, one can find an interesting parallel with the origins of Nieth as a society. An astounding number of original texts survive from those haydays, often reflective accounts of the events by those who lived them.
Supposedly this adoption into the widely recognized pantheon traces to the great conflagration that consumed Nieth some four hundred years ago. This destruction particularly devastated the child population of the city. The reigning prince, after the fires had been quenched, ordered the formation of Hebeen, the city of children. Thereafter, almost all children of Neith of age are sent to cross the Aderhajj mountains, and come out into a place where they live and play together, under the watchful eyes of servants of Viethustra and the Dusky Sister.
Another example, far more contemporary, is that of the Yumyaq, the nightly processions of songs, hymns and poetry recitations. The overall effect is hardly like the organised harmonies of our own choirs, and often subject and song clash in the air of cities. However, it is the general belief that such a task is essential for the preservation of Embass Aliyah. It may be universal, but its claimed emanations, which is to say, every religious being in the world, are bound to locations.
So, this discordant din is, in a sense, a spiritual beacon, for the gods to return home, over the land and sea to Nieth. It is perhaps better explained by the high priest of Embass Aliyah, who suggests that it is more of a reminder. Namely, a reminder that the gods all exist within the embrace of Embass Aliyah, and that they will always be worshipped in Nieth.
Out of all the strangest tenets of the faiths of Nieth, this is perhaps the most offensive to those learned. Not only would it implicitly suggest that they have solved the most important theological question of the Lost Ones (i.e. ‘where they were lost’), but also the term ‘Yumyaq’ (‘Of gods’ or ‘godly’ depending on usage) is questionable in itself.
Indeed, the derivation of the term, as far as I can trace it, is actually a title given to the city itself.
‘Yumyaq Al-Nieth’. Or, to translate the crude language, ‘The Watering’ or ‘Resting Place of the Gods’.

UNDER ORDER OF REVIEW - OFFICE OF THE HIGH LUTICIENT

It was an all too normal day, for all of its stresses, or at least, so Yemassa thought. The merchant trudged through the street, his bag of wares heaped high upon his back. That was just about the only thing that was abnormal - his big request. It was an unusually large order of various herbs, spices, and raw plant products that his small farm cultivated. While his handful of workers were busy harvesting gemsing, hot peppers, and the spiky amanas plant, he was carrying the last of the stock into Nieth proper.
The long, squat buildings had their dark windows shuttered against the afternoon sun. Despite that, many of the various city merchants and their clientele were happy to host conversation and commerce. Indeed, they were rushing to do so, considering that the Yumyaq was almost upon them. Once the sacred hour of sunset had passed, no commerce would be allowed, at least no formal commerce.
The activity was abuzz in most parts of the city, especially since the complete rout their forces had enjoyed to the north. Some raiding legion from across the sea had challenged the might of Nieth and learned a hard lesson. Yemassa wasn’t much aware of the details, though like every good citizen, felt a certain pride at the rumour of crushing victory. More importantly, excitement usually meant people’s pursestrings grew a little looser.
The thought hot on his heels, Yemassa drove himself forwards. The request had been a surprise, both in magnitude and in source. He was headed towards one of the inner, higher districts where the wealthy were congregating. He climbed the freshly cleaned steps to one of the upper roads, finding it mostly clear of people, save those that were stall-shopping.
Onwards and upwards he climbed, going up the various footpaths carved out by hundreds of tromping feet over the years. He had to take care to avoid the various pebbles and small scrub brushes that nipped at his wrapped feet however. Finally, he made it to one of the smaller winding district streets, which spat him out in one of the quieter streets. A bend and a twist in the route later, he managed to find his way into the courtyard of the commissioner.
He was greeted by two separate maid servants who helped him unpack and ferried the goods to where they needed to go. To further the shocking nature of the encounter, the client, a woman devout enough to wear a veil over her face, came out to speak to him directly. He knelt before her, refusing to lift his eyes even against her insistence that he need not be so formal.
She even deigned to discuss business, inquiring after his holdings and what kind and how much of his products he grew. He answered with as much humility as he thought was safe, and found a receptive customer at the other end. He had to keep himself from jumping up with excitement when she casually suggested he recommend his services to friends. Only when she returned to the inside did he spring away, walking back down the hill with significantly more energy then he’d climbed.
Just before he scampered off the road and onto the various footpaths that led down to the main thoroughfare, he caught a glimpse of the far cliffs between the houses. It would be sunset soon, he knew, and if he waited for just a few more minutes, they would turn a golden red in the evening. The others would manage just fine without him for a little while longer, he was sure.
So, making his way between the various alleys of the neighbourhood, he clambered out onto a shelf of rock. This was both a better and more precarious view, given the drop of several hundred hands into another quarter already in shadow below. It had been the site of an old mine, he thought, although his knowledge of the older parts of the city was not completely up to snuff.
He hunkered down on a rock a handful of paces from the edge, crossed his legs, and waited. Soon enough, the sun lowered in the cliffs behind him, the skies awash with the evening haze. This was a good spot, he’d have to remember it when he desired a good view of the city. From here, he could see most of the northern quarters, as well as the great central sprawl of the city running from left up to right.
At the very top of the city to the right stood the palace of the Nine Families. As Yemassa watched, its nonagon concentric layers of domes and spires, one for each generation he recalled, began to glimmer a pinkish hue. As the shadows below his feet began to stretch out to cover districts by the dozen, the northern cliffs seemed awash in fire.
Before he had much of a time to enjoy it, however, he heard the first lilting notes. The plucking of strings, the beat of rabbit-skin drums, the raised voices all started from below. He recognized some of the tunes that began the Yumyaq, songs of the working man and woman mostly about hard days in the fields or jungle. He smiled, the notes recalling fond memories of his own family, though he generally heard less of them now.
It was with a start that he realised that meant he had spent nearly a half hour on the ridge. As more elaborate poetry in service to one god or another began to drift behind him, joining the din from below, he scrambled. Thrusting the pack onto his shoulders, he took one last chance to survey his city as the cliffs shone their fiery colours. The din of the Yumyaq, the song of bountiful Nieth, rose to the heavens, calling across the brushlands and jungle to the distant sea, to carry the gods home.
It was a good sound, a familiar sound, the sound of home to him as well as those distant divine beings. Before he could turn his heel and walk down to the footpaths that would take him home, however, he found something tickling the edge of his vision. He squinted at the far cliffs, red and magenta, with hints of orange and yellow among the craggy faces.
He squinted further, trying to determine what exactly had drawn his attention.
It took him a half-minute more to determine that a flickering, bluish light was moving this way and that in the shadows of a cliff face. That was certainly odd, he thought as he watched the barely visible speck hover in place.
It only became odder when a second, yellowish light joined it.
It became alarming when a dozen, then two dozen, then hundreds of multicoloured lights joined it. The shadows it had inhabited vanished a glow of yellow and blue as they seemed to get bigger. They were getting bigger, Yemassa realised, as little tendrils and flakes began to shoot up above the cliffs in the sunset haze. Reds, purples, greens, but predominantly yellows and blues floated like petals on the wind.
There was a deep rumbling at the edge of his hearing, not powerful enough to shake the ground, but enough to send a wave through his feet. Fear lanced through him as he watched them grow brighter and larger until…
With an explosion of colour and light, a great torrent, like a spring pouring forth from a crevasse, vomited out and up. Yembassa watched as a swirling mass, a comet coming down to earth, shot forward across the city. As he watched it streak towards his position, frozen with shock, pieces of the light flaked off, drifting almost lazily down toward the city.
A piece of Yembassa recognized the locale - the school quarter, where most of the children would just be running out of classes. The scholars and priests studying long hours into the night, preparing to defend themselves against peers, or to present a proposal to the Prince-in-Reign.
There was a flash so bright he had to turn his eyes away.
When he looked back, the minarets and walls of the school districts were drowned under a sea of flames. More flashes followed, bits and pieces of the great comet delivering the biggest explosions he’d ever seen as they made contact with the ground.
Yembassa’s legs finally managed to unlock as the first screams began to drift up to him on suddenly scorching air. He realised numbly that half the city was burning in a matter of moments, and that the comet was shooting straight towards him. He turned to run, yet something drew his eyes around even as his legs pumped.
The mass turned just in time, streaking below the cliff line, where the old mine entrances had been, he thought. A small spine of hope poked through his terror.
Slowly, slowly, wavering from side to side in gentle, periodic motion, the molten feather drifted down, down, to touch the rocks where he’d been sitting.
Then there was light, and sound, and a heat that melted his eyes out of their sockets and tore him limb from limb.
