About a year ago, I quit my job because I was dealing with a lot of family and personal stuff, asked for time off that I had plenty of PTO for, and was denied. I literally had to go across the country to watch my father die, so I told my manager if I couldn’t have the time off, then I quit.
Fast forward for the next couple weeks, I keep getting calls from my manager, supervisor, many people asking me to come back and that they were just using my PTO for the weeks I wasn’t there. First off, hell nope, no interest in going back to work there.
Now, almost a year later I’m at the point I’m able to start looking for work, was hired at a similar type of job, and got to the background check. I had answered that I was never “fired or asked to resign”, as that is the truth, but I just found out today that my paperwork from that company listed me as “discharged or terminated”..
I think I’m still going to get the job, I explained the whole issue of me quitting and why, and they were all very sympathetic about it, but what the hell? why would a company say they fired someone who quit, because doesn’t that impact them negatively if I had applied for unemployment?.

So I used to drink iced coffee (I don’t like hot coffee drinks) w Splenda to sweeten it before I got on semaglutide. However since I’ve been on semaglutide it tastes like sh** to me; so I started drinking Starbucks coffee frappacino’s almost everyday 😩 I know they are horrible for u but they have a little caffeine and it seems like I can only drink really sweet things now. Has this happened to anyone else? I need to find another solution so I don’t consume this extra sugar everyday…..

I love this sub and noticed it doesn’t have a lot of traction. Bummer. So, I thought I’d add to it, instead of just lurking. I’ve only ever recounted this story a couple times because people don’t believe me. They look at me a little funny and sometimes change the subject.
I lived on a big “family” farm. Before a dispute amongst distant cousins, I could ride my bike to the furthest point (with a road), and still encounter family. One end was my house, the other was my great grandmother’s house, and between us was one big incline that lead up, and up, and to the rest of the hundreds of acres. That was to the left. On the right side was a field with a dried creek, trees growing, and dying along where they once had water. This was the bottom of the property, split by a small dirt road, sandwiched by a main road. In the fall I could see the main road past the field and through the trees.
This was late spring, early summer. I went past my grandma’s house to enjoy a cool ride in the over shaded path. The over grown field, sometimes full of flowers on my right, made it all the better. As soon as I left the hot sun, and the canopy blanketed me, the temperature changed drastically. I was expecting cool and shady, not bitter, and to see my breath. I had this horrible weight to my guts and I was overwhelmed with fear. My fight or flight was screaming at me to get away from there and to not look right.
My fear was overwhelming and I couldn’t help but turn my head as I realized I could hear the dry grass crunching along with my crunching of gravel. The tall grass was bending in a way that was indicative to someone running through it. The grass was between four and five feet high; the possibilities are endless for what it could be. As I swung my head back to make sure I wasn’t going to crash as I increased speed, I realized there was a second “trail” in the grass. I nearly stomped on my breaks to observe, still panicking, I wondered if maybe I wasn’t the prey in mind. As I came to a halt (I slid a bit in the gravel), an animal screamed, and I noticed the muzzle of a deer (or what looked like it in a glance) break the top of the grass. As a clear scuffle broke out, the grass moving appropriately, I sped off again, not wanting whatever predator to choose me for dessert. I hid at my great grandma’s in one of her outbuildings. Someone had to get me because I was so scared. They didn’t understand and just gave me a hard time for taking their time. It took four years to ride my bike back through there and I only did it the once more out of necessity.
The overwhelming fear and dread I felt was gone as soon as I was past there, out of the canopy, and in the next clearing in the sun. I couldn’t hear any of the noises when I got past even though I was only maybe another 100 yds down. It’s hard for me not think it’s supernatural in some way because less than 300 ft away from where the prey was taken, is a cemetery for children. A very small plot; in fact only four are buried there. I’ve also always been told my whole life that the animals I could’ve possibly seen are more seen after dusk. To see them just after 1 pm is fairly odd.
I don’t have any reason to return but, I still shudder and shake at the idea of being alone on that small stretch of dirt road again. The dread I felt that day was suffocating.

I lived in Soviet Russia and it was a cold night. I was bored watching the television like a boomer. I couldn't hear it so I got the tv remote and turned the volume up on the tv but nothing changed, I kept pressing it and pressing it but again nothing changed. I pressed it a final time before realizing something was changing in the corner of my eye, through the window. I saw something terrifying. I didn’t want to believe it at first so I ignored it then went again to try and turn the volume up on my tv. I turned my head sideways to the left out of my window and saw it… the moon was getting larger or closer or both every time I used that volume button and it freaked me out.
So what did I do? I tried turning the volume down on my tv to see if that would make the TV quieter, no nothing happened, I did it again whilst looking up at the sky the moon didn’t change it was still three times larger than what it usually looks like. What was happening when I tried turning it down though? I tried reducing the volume a few more times then I realized what was happening. My middle finger was growing. I was scared as fuck at this point, I must be high or I must be in a dream. I tried pinching myself but it didn’t work. My middle finger was twice as long as what it used to be, is this some kind of joke I thought, whilst my inner evil side was telling me that it was a good thing that I could swear at someone with my hand twice as good as before. Was the fuck was going on? I didn’t want to fuck myself up anymore but I needed to experiment so I tried to use the channel changing buttons on my remote.
I tried to hit the channel up on my remote. It was as I predicted, no response from my TV at all, I looked outside, no difference to the moon, I looked at my double length middle finger, no difference. What changed? I hit it a few more times and I felt something strange. There was a tight feeling on my right hand, my right arm was very slowly shrinking. I couldn't believe it. I was so disturbed I started to cry because my body was now actually fucked up. I didn’t want to use that remote anymore but my curiosity got the better of me so I had to try the opposite to channel up, which of course was channel down.
I hit the button, this time I noticed a difference without hitting it multiple times straight away. I felt dizzy, slightly but enough to tell. I hit it again to just see if it would affect me again… it did. The room was spinning a bit but not so much that I felt like passing out or anything. There is no way this isn’t a dream, it's just not possible otherwise it would be on the news about the moon getting closer or larger but nope my TV was stuck on the shitty film channels that don’t broadcast anything good like they used to.
I went online to check the news, social media or anything else that was my intention but I never got there as I found myself back on my bed lying down with my eyes closed.
Was it a dream? Yes, my body was normal. Thank god, I looked outside, the moon was still there but normal sized and how it should be. The TV however was extremely loud so I picked up and went to turn the volume down but I stopped myself… instinctively. I was scared to use that remote but I thought to myself, it was just a dream right… it was just a dream I'm being silly now so I went to turn the volume down, it didn’t work… My worst nightmares were now reality as my middle finger became tense. I looked at it but it didn’t seem to look any different. I couldn’t risk it so I opened my window and threw my remote outside and it smashed on the concrete below. BIG MISTAKE.
I should have tried the power button, or any other way to solve my problem but i was acting dumb, after the remote hit the floor and smashed, my head was spinning at a million miles an hour, my middle finger smashed through my bedroom window and the moon was crashing down into earth, my finger penetrated the moon and my body flew towards it like it was being used as a grappling hook. As my right arm diminished into my body, my body started diminishing but my left arm was growing with my middle finger. My head was spinning so fast that my body started spinning too, the moon was spinning on my finger and going so fast that it caught fire. I felt heat, burning and intense pain. My brain was inside the moon and my middle finger was still growing far beyond the universe crashing inside multiple different alien planets. I was the destroyer of worlds but for the extreme pain I was in no way of feeling like I was going to die.
The moon was still growing also, it was consuming the universe but it was spinning through my middle finger like a wrecking ball. The speed was uncalculated and impossible but it was happening. In all of the chaos and destruction through all of the shit that was happening a thought entered my mind… this was not a dream, this was reality and thought that there was no way back, no return journey and my fate was sealed. Something strange happened, everything stopped, time itself prevented any more chaos. My brain was at the core of the moon and had grown alongside the moon, and my colossus universe expanding finger was my only tool, the rest of my body was nothing. So there I was stuck… stuck just there with nothing but emptiness. It was hell that I was and hell that I never imagined.
Millions of years passed and I was still here, all I could do was think, just think and think some more. I could do nothing. My middle finger grew to the point where I couldn't move it anymore as it had burst out of the 100th dimension. It was over for life itself. The only thing left in the universe was my brain, the moon itself merged with it and my brain was just there. After all this time being doomed like this there is nothing left to tell but to just think about my previous life and how I just wanted to adjust my TV volume. I then thought, what if this was a story… What would the moral of it be? The only joy and happiness came to me in the answer of a useless question… the moral of the story is that in Soviet Russia… remote controls you.

2023.06.07 14:18 Hmb556 Is pistol red dot or holster with active retention more important
I cannot for the life of me find a holster that fits my setup (P229 legion with acro P2 red dot) that also has some active retention. Safarilands holster finder tells me to go fuck myself and I've used Dara before but the Acro is too chunky for their system to work. That leaves me with using holsters that are just passive retention or taking off the red dot and probably just using iron sights as I don't want to use an open emitter that gets shit in it. This is mostly a hiking/larping setup with open carrying.
I am a better shot with the red dot which is why I don't want to ditch it, but also don't want to have my gun fall out and roll down a mountain.
Which one would you guys consider more important, keeping the red dot to make aiming easier or putting it in a retention holster without the red dot?

With the last research "day" and the coming community "day" running 2pm to 5pm, this means two events in a row with 33C/90F plus temperatures where I live (and it will be 40/100+ later in the summer). My poor phone was overheating so bad for the research day that I could barely throw balls from the lag and had to stop playing completely at one point. Not looking forward to spending Axew CD sat inside somewhere because I can't catch anything if I go out and walk around in the heat.
To me, the best solution would be to allow players to play at their choice of any 3 hours within a given 6 hour window. I imagine most community members would choose the same (or substantially the same) window based on local weather and events, so there would still be a "community" feel to them.
That's definitely not happening for Axew CD, though, so I'm also interested in advice on keeping my phone cool. Are there any phones that are actually good in the heat? Seems like intense phone use in hot weather would be a situation unique to AR games.

Mechanical buttons? All loud and clicky? But no! They're all quiet and beautiful. I am very very pleased with it. It's comfortable to hold, the shoulder buttons are louder than I prefer, but they're not a bother. The triggers are magnet sensor triggers, and they are glorious. Now, the D-Circle thing... is trash. It's loud, uncomfortable, and unwieldy. How they did everything else so well, but then absolutely dropped the ball on the D-Pad is beyond me. It's so important for many fighting games, so that's a major misstep. If you need a good D-Pad, don't use this controller. The joysticks are great. They did stick in the teardown, but the faceplate gate doesn't like them overextend like they can without it. If you'd like to experience mechanical face buttons & magnet sensor triggers, then definitely get it! I played twenty minutes of Smash with it, and like five minutes of Tears of the Kingdom. No issues noticed. I played as Young Link, and did a lot of directional attacks, angled boomerang every which way. Everything did exactly what I wanted it to do. Perfect shielding worked perfectly. I will miss magnetic sensor triggers. This controller will not be my main squeeze as I mostly play handheld. It's a very unique controller. The shape, the hall effect triggers and mechanical buttons For 33 dollars, this controller is pretty sweet. If you see it for less, grab it. Anything over 50 would be too high, unless they update it with a real D-Pad. Only the face buttons are those nifty mechanical buttons, the rest are er... GM8 buttons? I'm not sure what they're called. If you know, let me know in the comments. Anyway, the joystick modules did stick, and I didn't like that, but they performed flawlessly during gameplay. |

 | I'm enjoying my Pilot Falcon with the soft fine nib immensely, it's the bouncyness. I enjoy it much more than say the TWSBI's I've been writing with before, that are hard as nails to me. The Falcon is the only fountain pen I own that I consider bouncy. But I'd like change that, and add another bouncy pen to my collection. To keep inked with a different ink etc. So what should I go for next? Doesn't have to be flex, a bounce similar to the Falcon is just fine. My thoughts are: Nib can be steel or gold, no preference. Piston filler preferred, but not a must (the falcon is already a cartridge/converter pen) Budget: Ideally no more than 150 eur / usd Color or size: No preference. The Falcon is small but works fine. The TWISBIs are larger and work fine as well. New or vintage: No preference; happy to shop for used pens. As you can see, it's all about the bounce 🙂 I've searched around a bit here and have seen Pelikan come up at times for bouncyness, as well as some Sailor or Platinum pens. But I find it hard to figure out what models to go for. Don't have a shop with any significant selection close by to go try different pens out. At the beginning of 2023 I rented a room in a shared house. I was paying for the room and free access to the house on a month to month lease. My landlord owns the house and the house next door where he lives.
One of my housemates was a nice enough person I would exchange small talk and once in a while get groceries with but he was one of those victim mentality types and personally not the type of person I would strike up a friendship with.
At some point he got into a text argument with my landlord and stopped paying his rent. He specifically told me he was not paying because he didnt like landlord's attitude (yeah okay way to act like a responsible adult buddy). One evening he was in the kitchen cooking and our landlord came into the house unannounced to serve an eviction notice on him. The two of them got into a fist fight and roommate ended up with his leg broken in 2 places and required 3 surgeries. Landlord was eventually picked up by the police and is being charged with F2 Aggravated Burglary. (I'm still unsure why, I guess because he caused bodily harm when entering a residence uninvited?)
I was in the shower and heard/saw nothing aside from my roommate crying out in pain. Landlord left by the time I was out of the shower and I called an ambulance for roommate.
A few weeks later my landlord offers me free rent for 2 months if I can get evidence that my roommate started the fight and is an agressive person. He truly isnt but he definitely would milk a situation for attention - chronic victim mentality. My landlord had sunglasses with video camera sent to me and told me to try to record my roommate as much as possible. He asked me to get him drunk and try to flirt a little to see what info I could get.
I said absolutely NO. I ended up moving out and back to my boyfriends because landlord is calling and texting me everyday multiple times a day begging me to help him. I told him I can not lie for him or record the person he committed a crime against. And I would absolutely not use my body to get information for him. The whole idea is insane and sounds illegal and like I could end up in trouble.
Landlord has found my new address and said his lawyer will be sending me a summons. I do NOT want to go to court. I have no information to tell the court other than what I have written in this post. Landlord keeps leaving me messages crying and begging, saying he is facing 3 years in prison if I don't tell the courts my roommate was agressive. NONE OF THIS IS MY BUSINESS!!!!!
If I get a summons and don't appear what will happen to me? I have a good life and a job I adore. I'm afraid of being arrested for not appearing. Can anyone tell me what would happen if I block landlords number and ignore any further contact from him or his lawyer? This is now a grand jury case if that matters and we are in Ohio. We both are atheists so it doesn't bother us for now but I am low-key afraid of other people's judgment from my country and his relatives, not to mention that I would need to learn 2 new languages. One is to live in the Netherlands, and second, if I want to communicate with his parents because in 30 years they haven't learned Dutch properly yet.
- His country has a higher economy than mine but he also has a HUGE housing crisis, therefore we will need to live with his parents for a while until we can rent a place. The problem is his mom. She doesn't like me, and neither do I like her. She agreed to let me stay with them but I can't communicate with her because of the language barrier and she is obsessed with cleaning, to the point she has problems with people cooking in the kitchen cuz they will "make a mess". And she also complains a lot about other things.
- I worry that I will not be able to find a job that I wouldn't hate. I haven't learned Dutch yet, and the college diploma that I have won't be that useful until I learn Dutch.
- I don't understand his jokes sometimes and it upsets him. He said he even stopped making “dirty” jokes and jokes in general because of me. He also said that he feels like he is losing his “spark”. He was a very optimistic and talkative person before but in the past half a year he has been not as talkative anymore and not as happy too I guess?
- I don't find him attractive. I mean I still think he is okay looking but he isn't exactly a physically attractive person. He has some extra weight on. The fact that I don't find him attractive upsets me because I always thought that you are supposed to find your partner attractive. On the upside, his good personality makes up for it.
- We are moving to his country while it does have a higher economy, but a) he doesn't have a good relationship with his parents, I do and b) he isn't that close to his friends, but I am. So I'm leaving all the people just for him. Also c) my parents are getting older so I don't know if it's a good idea to leave them in case they will need help. and also d) again, insane housing crisis where it's hard to find a place to rent, let alone for a decent price. in my country, just choose a place and move in. But mostly it just upsets me that I won't be able to see my friends and family that often anymore.
- His health problems worry me. He has sleeping problems, so he is constantly sleeping deprived. And I'm afraid that in the future I will have a hard time because of it.

I've been using my iPhone 13 Pro for a year now, and recently the rear 0.5x camera became unusable. I restarted my phone and "Unknown Part" showed up in the settings area. And so, I decided to send it to the nearest Apple Authorized Repair Centre for help.
They said I have AppleCare+ so they offered a free repair for it and gave me a loaner phone for temporary use. Upon returning, they told me Apple detected unauthorized repairs and denied repair. I only had the screen repaired at an official Apple store before.
They quoted me a full replacement phone for 1199$ and 89$ for diagnostic charges if I wanted.
That was absolutely absurd and of course I said no.
Upon receiving back my phone, they showed me it coulden't be turned on due to a faulty motherboard and it was bricked. (it was perfectly fine with the exception of the 0.5x camera not working). They asked me to return the loaner phone so that they could give me back the bricked phone. I noped out and exited the store straight.
So it's either me paying 1288$ or taking back my old phone that is currently bricked.
Unbelievable.

That was absolutely absurd and of course I said no.

They said I have AppleCare+ so they offered a free repair for it and gave me a loaner phone for temporary use. Upon returning, they told me Apple detected unauthorized repairs and denied repair. I only had the screen repaired at an official Apple store before.
They quoted me a full replacement phone for 1199$ and 89$ for diagnostic charges if I wanted.
That was absolutely absurd and of course I said no.
Upon receiving back my phone, they showed me it coulden't be turned on due to a faulty motherboard and it was bricked. (it was perfectly fine with the exception of the 0.5x camera not working). They asked me to return the loaner phone so that they could give me back the bricked phone. I noped out and exited the store straight.
So it's either me paying 1288$ or taking back my old phone that is currently bricked.
Unbelievable.
TL;DR: sent my iPhone to repair faulty camera, received back a phone that could not be turned on
What can I do to get compensated for it? Help is appreciated!

Amateur podcaster Finn Mitchell has been obsessed with this bit of folklore since his best friend Omari Mason shared it with him. Now, they’re both out in the secluded town of Garrison, surrounded by the forests and hills of West Virginia on the hunt to find out if it’s true. As they dig into the Shadow Man encounters, they struggle to get anyone to even talk to them, let alone offer insight into the tragic events. Undeterred, they continue even as anonymous phone calls, not-so-veiled threats, and a fresh murder all pull their attention in different directions. It seems the legend wasn’t such a deeply buried memory after all, and figuring out the truth behind it will be the only thing that can save the town from further torment.
Strange Trails is a 99,000 word standalone speculative mystery with series potential. Like a mix between the story of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series and the atmosphere and social tones of Lovecraft Country, it covers real world issues people in small town America might face today. "Lost among the forests and hills of West Virginia, Garrison hides away a dark history almost no one outside of the town has heard. Until now.
"Welcome to Strange Trails. I'm your host, Finn Mitchell, and over the next few episodes I'm going to bring you along on my investigation into just who the Shadow Man is and what is going on in Garrison." Finn pulled away from the microphone on his desk, stopping the recording. That was take three; the first time he’d made it through the introduction of his podcast without choking on spit.
A few months back he’d had an idea which had quickly expanded in his mind, consuming him until he had to do something about it. This small town, he was convinced, was finally what he’d been searching for.
"How was that?" he asked, looking over his shoulder. He removed his glasses, massaging his right eye with the side of his hand.
One of the two motel beds creaked as his friend Omari Mason turned on his side to face Finn. “Sounded the same as the other two times to me," he said absently, using his phone camera to adjust a rogue coil of hair back into place.
