Upright and Balanced - On the Trail and in Life This past summer, my daughter and I planned to hike a section of the Appalachian Trail. Although we both loved the outdoors and were frequent day hikers, neither of us had attempted an overnight backpacking experience. After watching numerous on-line videos for advice, studying trail maps, and loading our packs, we set off for adventure, compass in hand and a smile on our faces.
Seasoned backpackers will tell you that “newbies” on the trail are easily recognized by the size of their packs, carrying everything but the kitchen sink. We were no exception. Our packs were easily half our body weight and towered over our heads. After the first mile, we got the hang of balancing our loads and conquered one steep ascent after another.
All was well until I had the misfortune to misstep and “roll” on a stick. I was thrown off balance, my feet went out from under me, and I found myself looking up at the sky, my fall cushioned by my pack. My daughter ran to my aid but was quickly overcome with fits of laughter at the sight of me attempting to get back on my feet. Every effort to stand up was negated by the heavy pack. No matter how I tried, I was stuck, much like an overturned turtle. After valiant efforts to right myself, I lay exhausted by the situation, needing some kind of helping hand to stand. Once I gave up fighting the pack weight, a thought came to me. If I just unclipped my pack, I would be able to stand. I did. Now free from the weight of my burden, I stood upright.
My experience on the trail holds many lessons for me when compared to Al-Anon. Many of us carried a burden from the effects of alcoholism, causing us to lose our balance and get stuck. Our best efforts were ineffective in “righting” ourselves in our relationships and lives. For me, the experience, strength, and hope provided by the program are the freeing solutions to the family disease of alcoholism. The Steps and Traditions help me unclip the burden of the effects of growing up with alcoholism, allowing me to proceed down the trail of life upright and balanced.

2019 Leaf owner here wondering best mode to drive in when highway driving? I typically have to drive 65km to work and it’s all very hilly highway. Speed limit is 100km/h which is what I typically stick to. I’ve just been driving in eco-mode but being a new Leaf owner I’m thinking there might be a better way. I’m draining about 70% of my battery just for this one way commute. I can’t access Leaf Spy due to some weird setting in my country. Thanks in advance!

Fuzion is far from perfect but I kinda like it with some modifications.
One thing I would like to change is how skills are used. In Fuzion it solved by Characteristic + Skill + Dice.
Regarding dice in Fuzion you have actually two choices: Either 1D10 or 3D6, chose one and stick with it for the rest of the campaign.
For example Average Joe has dexterity 3 and knows how to climb trees (skill 3). Now he forced to climb a rock to escape from a cocaine bear. To do this Joe has to overcome DV 18, this rock requires a competent climber, and Joe is average, not competent.
Using 1D10 he is mostly screwed, he must roll 10 which is a critical success, it grants him to roll another 1D10 to add to this. So the mathematics is: 3+3+10+1D10, so even that has a risk of failure. Poor Joe.
Now with 3D6 the basic roll gives a much higher chance for Joe to not get molested by the bear. The DV is still 18 and rolling equal or better with 3+3+3D6 is lower than 50%, because... well Joe is average. However critical success is much lower, it requires you to roll all sixes and then you can roll 2D6 to add to the result.
If Joe managed to get a total result of 29 one could match it to the Difficult Value-table and say that Joe did an Incredible climb, but other than that it is either success or failure, which is kinda boring.
The option of using 3D6 is... intriguing, because several gaming system are using D6:s for skill rolls.
Now to the point - using 3D6 to diversify the outcome.
Roll 1 three times = Fumble, worst possible outcome that is not lethal. Something you will remember for decades to come, like your attempt to sneak managed to alarm the entire town.
But if you are so competent that 1+1+1 + skills + characteristic are as good or better than DV it is just a simple failure.
Roll 1 two times = Either a bad failure, like you hurt yourself trying and will suffer the rest of the day. Or as not as good success as you desired. Like the task succeeds but something broke, got lost.
Roll 6 two times = If it is a failure it is not a total failure, you can give it at a short rest to think it over and give it a second try, for example. Or a better than expected success, like you managed to climb unusually fast and are not even tired.
Roll 6 three times. Task succeeds even if the DV is not reached. A critical success if the result is same or better than DV, like making a bomb that do tripple the maximum damage.
Thoughts? Has this been done before with 3D6?

I’m currently doing my first proper cut after 7 years of going to the gym.
At my heaviest I weighed 105kg at 6’1 in the last year or so i went to 82kg but i wasn’t “shredded”
Right now I’m 88kg ( quite a bit of water weight as i binged for 3 days and probably ate 5000 or so calories a day, as it was a good friends birthday)
Anyway back to the question, I want to get shredded, i want to do it fast… i really don’t care about the “just take your time” 500 calories deficit or whatever.
I’m good at not binging and sticking to a diet when I’m focused on it.
So my maintenance is 3200 calories.
Right now I’m eating 1800-2000 a day
If i still stick to my protein goal of 1g per lbs of weight
I should not lose muscle mass, correct? I’m also lifting very heavy in the gym and constantly upping my weight and reps till failure

2023.03.26 13:51 Neo_zugzwang Need a consistent anti-d4 weapon; Can't decide.
Background: Never had a fixed anti d4 weapon, experimented with grunfeld, nimzo, etc but never settled on one particular defense. Right now, I am enjoying and scoring some wins with the semi slav: botvinnik however I am well aware of the absurdly huge amount of theory that awaits me. I want a defense against d4 that will serve me and help in growing of my chess understanding instead of just having to memorize lines to survive. Right now, three options come to mind: a) Continue with semi slav theory b) Learn Nimzo indian and complement it with Ragozin if opponent goes Nf3 c) Rely on the slav defense which is solid and reliable.
Bonus question: If you recommend sticking with the semi-slav suggest which lines should I go for and how to survive in the irrational botvinnik and anti-moscow line.

So I was under assessment but live outside the district so have to start the process again, in the meantime we've been navigating this ourselves as best we can, lately switches have been less frequent or less noticeable a switch has happened, there was a bit of dormancy but a few days ago I think an alter shared a memory of their creation for lack of a better term, just randomly received a memory of when I found out I wasn't going to see my best friend again, I was 2 (her mother passed in a car accident we're still unsure if she was in the car with her) at the time and didn't know about this incident until much later in life but vaguely remembered a girl, the memory showed my mum leaving the bedroom after just explaining what happened and me and a little boy just stood there and him turning to me like "we don't get to play anymore?" we knew that my response as a kid to this news was to strip the wallpaper off the bedroom walls as it was mine and my friends room, but this memory showed the thought process behind that, "it wasn't our play room anymore," this followed by another memory, this is something I do remember, for some reason it always stuck with me better than anything, but it was like the same memory from a different perspective, was about 3-4 years old at the time, and I was with my abuser and had a thought "if I was a boy this wouldn't happen to me," and the little boy in the first memory appeared in front of me, and I can't really explain what happened the best analogy I have is like those old film projectors and the film catching alight and melting and you see the projection of what's happening on the screen, and there was another kid, who usually comes with the boy or is near by, this kid is the one that did the what stuck with me all these years, a family member of the abuser walked in the room and this kid tried to alert them of the situation, but being so young they didn't understand what they were alerting just knew it wasn't right so just shouted at the abuser "you've done my dungarees up wrong!" Later we were given a cover story, but that was remembered from the kid that tried to alert perspective too.
I didn't want to go into too many details as these are intimate memories shared and not nice to read either, but where do I go from here? is this a sign of integration? I may not get back into therapy for a while now so just want some pointers on how to help them as best I can

I've had to buy several laptops over the past years due to them breaking down and the cost to repair them not being worth it. The current laptop has damage to the hinges, casing and the motherboard.
It still works, but I can't open or close the screen, so it's always open and when I use it I need to remove my work laptop from my desk. I then need to unplug the keyboard, mouse and screen from the docking station and plug them into my laptop as my personal laptop is not compatible with my USB-C docking station.
It's a lot of effort to go through and it kinda keeps me from using my laptop when I need it, causes me to postpone sorting things I need to get sorted, causes me anxiety about getting things sorted and I end up paying bills months later.
I can afford to buy a new laptop, but rather than splash a lot of money on a new computer and putting a lot of time and effort into researching what laptop to buy, I thought what about I buy a 1TB USB stick, install Windows on it and use my work laptop (I can access the BIOS) to run my personal laptop on my work laptop. If I'm half an hour in the train from work, all I need to do is restart my work laptop, plug in my USB stick and start using my personal laptop.
Are there any obvious reasons why I shouldn't be doing this? If not, is there anything I should take into account when doing this?

So I was just wondering what people’s thoughts are. I own a PS5 but I don’t like the controller for playing street fighter, the PS4 controller is much better in my opinion (for fighting games, any other game it’s an incredible bit of kit and i love it) and I play much better using the PS4 controller. I can’t use a fight stick and I’ve never been good with one so that’s out of the question so I’m in a bit of a dilemma.
I have pre ordered the PS4 version instead because graphics don’t really matter too much it’s only a fighting game and surely it can’t be too much different? The online matchmaking is run through capcom server anyway and I use a wired LAN connection so I always have good quality connection when I play SFV online.
What should I do? It seems like the general consensus is that the PS4 version is going be trash but overall it’s not a massive open world game like elden ring or Skyrim so version difference shouldn’t matter too much? I believe the character is based off of the plant “Phallus impudicus” more specifically “Stink Horn” I am going to be putting a short connection to the character with a quote about the plant.
It is known as the “Witches Egg” and Melanie has written about magick in the song “DEATH” also the way it describes how it sprouts is similar to “THE HATCHING” video. Quote:
“They form into a slimy egg, also called witches eggs, and sprout a stem from there.”
This plant is also pink (depending on the variant) It also lures prey to it to kill it and was used to make a love potion. (Which is on theme). Quote:
“It was used in medieval times as a love potion.”
The plant itself resembles a… (male organ) that Witches would burn, so it’s symbolic to individualism/feminism. The plant also after it sprouts turns into an egg and then sprouts again and turns into an egg again, so it “rebirths.”
We also see that the character is able to grow mushrooms/plants out of herself in the Live Album Cover.
She also refers to herself as a ghost in “DEATH.” This quote that was written about the plant:
“In 1777, the reverend John Lightfoot wrote that the people of Thuringia called the unopened stinkhorns "ghost's or daemon's eggs"‘
And this also fits her character:
“its form reminiscent of love, and its odor, of death. For the stench given off by the impudicus was strikingly like that of a decaying corpse, the odor coming from greenish, viscous slime that carried its spores and dripped from the bell-shaped cap.”
This quote also can be related to how they hunt the plant, similarly men who prey on women as a “sport”:
“Writing about life in Victorian Cambridge, Gwen Raverat (granddaughter of Charles Darwin) describes the 'sport' of stinkhorn hunting: The name is justified, for the fungus can be hunted by the scent alone; and this was Aunt Etty's great invention. Also the time of year it sprouts is similar to the album release. Also, the association with rotting wood/location is similar:
“The fungus is associated with rotting wood, and as such it is most commonly encountered in deciduous woods where it fruits from summer to late autumn”
Also this plant “feeds on the dead” so potentially this plant could have eaten Melanie or “Cry Baby” and she resurrected into it.
There is many other analogies/connections to this plant, but I’ll leave it at that. I got most of the quotes from Wikipedia, but I did check multiple sources to see if everything was accurate. I definitely encourage everyone to check it out and see if you agree or can maybe find another plant that is closer to her character. Although I think this is it as it is connected to witchcraft, nicknamed ghost, and sprouts from an egg with goo. Also, if there are any errors in regards to this plant let me know.

The plant itself resembles a… (male organ) that Witches would burn, so it’s symbolic to individualism/feminism. The plant also after it sprouts turns into an egg and then sprouts again and turns into an egg again, so it “rebirths.”
We also see that the character is able to grow mushrooms/plants out of herself in the Live Album Cover.
She also refers to herself as a ghost in “DEATH.” This quote that was written about the plant:
“In 1777, the reverend John Lightfoot wrote that the people of Thuringia called the unopened stinkhorns "ghost's or daemon's eggs"‘
And this also fits her character:
“its form reminiscent of love, and its odor, of death. For the stench given off by the impudicus was strikingly like that of a decaying corpse, the odor coming from greenish, viscous slime that carried its spores and dripped from the bell-shaped cap.”
This quote also can be related to how they hunt the plant, similarly men who prey on women as a “sport”:

Also the time of year it sprouts is similar to the album release. Also, the association with rotting wood/location is similar:
“The fungus is associated with rotting wood, and as such it is most commonly encountered in deciduous woods where it fruits from summer to late autumn”
Also this plant “feeds on the dead” so potentially this plant could have eaten Melanie or “Cry Baby” and she resurrected into it.
There is many other analogies/connections to this plant, but I’ll leave it at that. I got most of the quotes from Wikipedia, but I did check multiple sources to see if everything was accurate. I definitely encourage everyone to check it out and see if you agree or can maybe find another plant that is closer to her character. Although I think this is it as it is connected to witchcraft, nicknamed ghost, and sprouts from an egg with goo. Also, if there are any errors in regards to this plant let me know.

I will be working in WM and private banking this summer at a bank(tier 3). I wanted to land IB/Quant mainly but let's just say I was unaware and late to the game. Any experience is better than none ig. (Edit: I don't hate WM but just find IB better for me)
I am a sophomore and still have 2 years. I can apply for an IB internship next summer as well. How can I leverage my experience in the department to break into IB next year?
So far I aim to effectively network and get in touch with the relevant people. But what can I try on the skill side so that I can pose my self as a better candidate for IB?
I also worked as Data Analyst last summer and already trying to get in touch with people there. I am in the UK if that helps. Can I give any exams or personal projects to add to my CV or should I leave all that just do my best at work?( I wanna do the latter but not stick in WM)
